Amar a Muerte, 1/7/19, Episode 44: By the Pricking of My Thumbs...*

Since I don't currently have a big screen, if anyone knows what the texts were, please advise.

Patsyhas sharpened her claws again, attempting to trap Lucia into revealing the skeletons in her closet, implying that she might prefer simpler food than what she wasserving. She comments on how surprising it was that León would marry a woman of no [snooty] education. Sanchez-Buena began to get uncomfortable and Johny interjected that despite her lack of such an education, Lucia is the smartest woman he knows. Lucia took this ball and ran with it, calling Patsy out on what she was thinking and rubbing it in that she will owe her [este qualquiera] for using the network toward making her husband the next president of Mexico. She then stood up, saying she would prefer delicious tacos to what was on the table, and took her leave. Johny excused himself and followed Lucia. Patsy smiled nastily at their departure as her husband looked like he wanted to disappear through the floor.

Johny didn't like what happened, but Lucia was determined to leave, saying that she was offended at the idea that the woman who insulted her could be Mexico's next First Lady. The candidate followed them, all apologies, to try to get them to return to the table. Lucia told him his wife would have to keep her distance if the network is to continue to support him. He completely understood. Lucia walked out with Johny close behind her.

Juliana and Valentina hung out in the hospital waiting room waiting to see Lupita. Valentina told Juliana she loved her, but Juliana isn't ready to hear this yet. There was no time to talk about this because Montilla arrived and asked Valentina whether her family knew she was there.

Guillermo thought about the last mad kiss with Renata only to have to hear more questions froma colleague and put up with Mayela stalking him again. He told her they had to stop meeting like this because people were talking.

Renata told Keyla about what happened and Keyla told her not to get her hopes too far up.

Camilo and Jacobo talked about “Hector”. Camilo was fascinated while Jacobo was a bit freaked out. He got a call from Alerio about Valentina being at the hospital with her friend because of what happened to Juliana's mother. He told him he would be right over. He should be prepared to beeven more freaked out.
Montilla was talking to the girls when Pancho arrived, making him more curious about this. He then told the girls that if Lupita survived, Alacrán still has to think she is dead. For the time being his men will surround the hospital and he is to be informed when Lupita wakes up. He emphasized the sensitivity of the situation.

Mugro was preparing cocktails when Alacrán called him, demanding proof that Lupita was dead. He said he would not believe it until he saw the body. Mugro had to produce it, so he said he would check every hospital. He would kill her when he found her. Alacrán told him that he had better do so or he would die. He was still determined to find El Chino.

Belchino called Alicia and she told him that Javier wasn't well. He told her he was on his way. She still suspected him of cheating on her. When he ended the call Santos teased him about this and Belchino told him to mind his own business. They and Barbara got into the truck and went on their way.

Alacrán texted Eva, who texted back that whenever he was ready she was ready for war. Whatever he texted back [couldn't read it on my screen] she was amused, but replied that if things went on like this she would be looking for another lover. He began texting back, but before he finished Mateo came into the bedroom and took away Eva's phone. As cool as her lover is cold, she managed to take it away from Mateo as he embraced her with the intention of getting it on, read the screen over his shoulder, then turned it off. He may not have noticed, but she did look less than enthused as he began undressing her, no matter what kind of a kiss she gave back.

Lucia went to Johny's apartment with him. He wanted to talk about what happened but she told him in no uncertain terms that she was not going to tolerate Patsy's insults. He pointed out that fighting with them would not do themselves any good, as everyone in power has enemies. Once again, he said that the most important thing was that they be together, forever. He moved in like a kissing gourami.

Sanchez-Buena calmly told his wife off, telling her that if he loses the candidacy, it will be her fault because she went out of her way to offend Lucia.

Jacobo went to the hospital but could not persuade Valentina to go back with him. She tol him she couldn't. He looked shocked when she told him that Juliana's mother had been shot and that there was a chance that the shooter might turn up to finish the job. Meanwhile Pancho tried to keep Juliana's spirits up. He seems to be in love with Lupita.

Jacobo did manage to finally bring Valentina home (again, without running into Juliana), then caught up with Guillermo, who was in a better mood for what happened with Renata. However, Jacobo's mood took a left turn upon finding out that Lucia had not returned.

Lucia was about as much in the mood as Eva and while Johny tried to get her into the mood he wanted from her both their cell phones sounded. They had both received the same text message and photo.

Pancho went home to mother and told her that Lupita had survived. However, Mugro and his goons grabbed him as he was leaving. They put him in the van and took off.

Juliana fell asleep while slumping over her mother's bed. Doña Muerte stood on the other side over Lupita, then left.

Pancho played dumb while being interrogated by Mugro about what had happened to Lupita. Mugro's accomplice had been working Panch over for awhile, as evidenced by the bruises and blood. They would not stop.

Doña Muerte visited Javier's room. She touched the boy's hair, then turned to his mother. She woke up. She did not see Doña Muerte, but definitely sensed that something was wrong. She went looking for the nurse.

Johny had an upsetting conversation with his security detail, followed by an argument with Lucia. He began blaming Jacobo. Rather obsessively. Lucia got up and left but not without more manhandling from Johny, who is the one most out of control.

Jacobo went to Camilo's place where he destroyed a cellphone. His mariposa tattoo also bled. Camilo asked him to make note of every bleeding for his research. They talked about Maru/Hector briefly before Camilo went up to bed.

Maru's mother checked in on “her”. Satisfied that her “daughter” was asleep she left the room. However, “Hector” was faking He took a large sip from a beer can, then looked in the mirror to see the male reflection, panicked for about a second, then tried to sleep.

Valentina poured herself some iced tea, then for Guillermo. She tried to get him to talk about Meyela and revealed that she never liked her much. He asked about Lucho and she replied that she found him boring. A few sentences later he told her to count on him if she needed help with anything and she told him that when things settled down she had more to tell.

Barbara lay in the back of the truck as Beltran and Santos talked in the front seat on the way through Texas. Belchino confided that Alacrán was trying to kill his wife, meaning his first one. He had to try to prevent this and to help his “new”wife. Santos tried to get him to talk about them, asking which he loved more. Belchino laughed, saying that love doesn't exist for people like himself. He didn't love anyone, but that was no reason to allow harm to come to either woman.

Pancho made it back home. His wife woke up at the sound of his coughing, saw that he was injured, and said she was calling the police. He lied about what happened as his wife and daughter fetched ice and applied it. He did not want them calling the police.

Mugro had to admit over the phone to Alacrán that he couldn't find anything out from Pancho.

Lucia got homeand texted Jacobo. She then looked at the portrait photo of León and put it in the nightstand drawer. Jacobo read the message, then lay on the bed.

Beautiful song at the end.

The texts said, "Estan pensando en mi?" . ... "Are you (plural) thinking about me?"

This was such a jam packed episode. I found myself needing instructions on how to adjust my beanie because it won't kept still but rather it falls on my head.

I hope it has a great ending!

Thanks UA I knew when I read the title "By the pricking of my thumbs" that it was you. And I had to look up "gourami". Clever girl. We used to see "big mouth bass kisses" but clearly these were a step up, although intense indeed. Thanks for that addition to my vocabulary. Beautiful fish too.

Always enjoy these brisk, to-the-point recaps. Really didn't get any questions answered in this episode. Still wondering if Lupita's heart, mind, and soul will still be in her body when she wakes up. Or will there be another puzzling transmigration.

Still on the edge of my seat with this one. Thanks again UA. Well done.

Lovely screen cap also. You do it all, my friend.

Thank You Urban for filling in the blanks. I was distracted by keeping score with the National Championship college Fooootball game which was being played at the same time.

First, Mateo is sooo stupid. How long does it take to simply glance at the screen ?

Second, in modern phones, you can assign ANY name to a phone number in your contacts. So why don't people like Eva name someone like Alacran to 'Pumpkin' or 'Bob's Draperies' or something? For instance I am sure T-Mobile does not have a customer on my street called 'Annoying Neighbor' !

I'd give a nickel to know what Death Chick was up to.

Barb banished to the back of the truck was special. If they had any indication that she would almost shut up, she might be allowed up front. There is no place back there which will not mess up your hair.

I truly enjoy Lucia and Johny in their 'Rats in a Trap' scenes. How they simply race back and forth with that terrified look and accomplish nothing. Leon definitely has the upper hand and is finally beginning to take advantage of it.

Urban, the storyteller comes out in you with every recap. Thank you, especially for the Beltran-Santos conversation. For some reason, I can never understand them. Maybe it's the sound of the truck (haha).

Kirby--Mateo does NOT suspect Eva of any dalliances. She's been so firm about no bed-rolls, it's too soon after her father's death. For awhile, he did wonder who she was talking to lovey-dovey on the phone. Maybe the writers want their viewers to know Eva and Alacran are conversing, thus, no nicknames. How dull. I like Bob's Draperies or maybe Roberto's Cortinas.

I'm beginning to have great admiration and respect for AB's interpretation of Lucia. We see her looking plain, being vulnerable, weighed down by her past and her debt to Johny. Then turns quickly to the astute business woman, confident, self-assured, knowing how to use her body and powers of seduction. Then as quickly, turns to the love-bitten woman at the mercy of this handsome, blue-eyed dude, confused by her feelings for Leon and her increasing revulsion of Johny. She's rid of Leon easily enough--just put his pictures in a drawer.

Johny isn't going to be so hard to get rid of--the obnoxious, unctuous (thanks, Jar), obsequious, using false subservience to gather information to use for himself or against someone else pond scum. Yep--he's obsessed by Jacobo--and LOL, rightly so.

Thanks, UA, love the screenshot and your masterfully written recap.

Victoria, I had to attach a chinstrap to my beanie :-)

Kirby, those "Rats in the Trap" scenes are something to look forward to. How soon before JohnyBeSkeered goes out and buys some extra large, extra absorbent Depends? HA! And Lucia putting away those photos...does she really think that is going to get rid of the fear and guilt she is feeling? Don't think so!

Anita, Mateo is a blithering idiot if he doesn't suspect that Eva has something going on. How blind can he be? Her little song about it being too soon after her father's death is getting old. Mateo needs to tighten up his pants and find out what is really going on with her...he is, after all, an investigative reporter; he really needs to put those skills to work.

JudyB, we hadn't seen death chick in while. If she can put a man's soul in a young girl's body, would she dare to make a switch with Lupita's and Javier's bodies and souls? Now that would be interesting!

Mateo, abre los ojos!

Urban, thank you for the excellent recap. I liked your title .. " By the pricking of my thumbs".... "Something wicked this way comes."

Johnny is smarmy. Does he have his original soul?
Lucia is bouncing around like a tennis ball.
The actress playing Eva is doing a great job . This character is the complete opposite of the innocent young girl that she played in Ramon. Likewise the actress who was in Vino De Amor and Papas . She looks so much younger here..less make up?

Lupita doesn't need any more difficulties in her life now and neither does her daughter. However, I am wondering whether something will happen to Javier because El Chino still has lessons to learn.

I don't think Johny has a soul and futher, that Lucia is beginning to really see this.

Why is Doña Muerte approaching people that are not in the known group of people who already transmigrated, e.g., Lucas, Chino, Hector?

Well, watching this, I realize that Leon's moth bleeds whenever he's doing something to emotionally trouble or harm others. Doesn't matter that it's nasty Johny and compromised Lucia. It still bleeds. Seems like the message is still classic telenovela, we are here to love and help others, not extract vengeance.

Beltrám lacks insight when he says "people like us don't love". He clearly loves Javier, and I think he even loves Lupita and Juliana. And cares for Alicia, in spite of her nagging (which for the most part is about his health and his diet, so that is a form of loving too, however annoying).

Well,we shall see. But evidently he wasn't bleeding in the truck, even though he popped Barbara in the back. Maybe because it was done without malice?

I don't know why Doña Muerte was hovering over Lupita and Javier, but she looked troubled and sad, as if she didn't want them to die...that it was not "their time". Could it be that Death is compassionate at times. Lots of mysteries in this one.

She may be hunting new game. She vanished before Alicia woke up, but Alicia sensed her presence.

If Belchino gets wind of this -- and he will eventually -- he will lose it.

BTW, if this ended at 87 episodes, this one was the Hump.

Interesting that Leon (LCJ) moth appears to have bled much more than the others, and he is the least malevolent of the whole crowd. And on the surface he appears to be the most maligned of them all too.

"If Belchino gets wind of this -- and he will eventually -- he will lose it."

Well, he can do whatever he wishes, but with Death Chick, he is not exactly in a bargaining position.

Rgv Chick.

That is so funny. Mateo -- an investigative reporter!!

FYI, with only 87 episodes this season, Televisa is looking at extending this novela to a second season.

I don't think I've ever seen a telenovela where the antagonist (Lucia) turns things around and is then portrayed as a protagonist. Except for Chantal Andere as Antonia Morales.

"We are here to love and help others"....that sounds like a good description of you ,judyb.

How did you get a TREE under that goat?

Victoria I'm not sure we aren't seeing Tres Veces Ana, except Dos Veces Lucia, and it is anybody's guess what she is or will be. Every time I think maybe that she is bad, but turning good or good , but her bad side is showing, I find I am as wrong as two left feet.

The glimpses we have seen of her 'Good' side, mostly seem to be found out to be just another act she is putting on to accomplish her evil ways.

It appears she truly is taken with Jocobo, but the consensus here (I can't see it), is that what woman would not be. But we and Cami are the only ones who actually know that Joco is Leon.

She may supposedly not have been in on the plan to kill Leon when THEY did, but she is guilty of allowing it to go unreported and continuing on with their plans.

She gives lip service to combating the Cartels etc. etc. and so on, but she has not actually DONE anything yet except lure yet another man old enough to be her Father to long for her.
