Amar a Muerte, 2/14/2019, Episode 71: Body, Oh Body! Where Art Thou, Body?
At Johny’s place, Johny
explains to (no)S-Bueno’s assistant that Mateo is someone who is trustworthy;
he is Eva’s husband and Johny has known him for a long time. Johny wants to let
Mateo in, but the assistant can’t be seen there; so Johny tells him to hide
behind a door. (Yep. Since you look like
an oversized Beltrán .)
At the cemetery, LCJ and
Barb walk toward León’s grave. Barb knows they are very close when she sees the
trail of petals. When Barb sees the tombstone and realizes that LCJ is León
Carvajal, she kneels and makes the sign of the cross.
At Johny’s place, Johny
invites Mateo to sit down and tell him what is on his mind, Mateo remains
standing rigidly as he tells Johny that it is very evident to him that Susana
didn’t die of an accidental overdose. When Johny wonders what Mateo wants him to
do, Mateo tells him to do nothing. Mateo will prove to the police that Susana
didn’t eat seafood; she never did and if she did do it, it was because of
Johny’s doings. Johny acts surprised that Mateo is set on his idea that he
killed Susana. Johny thought Mateo was just upset when he accused him at the
office, but Johny sees that he wasn’t. After Johny denies killing Susana, Mateo
assures him that he is not only going to prove that Johny killed Susana, he is
also going to publish a report on Johny’s special dealings with Sanchez-Bueno.
(Are you listening 'Door-Hider?) Johny
feigns ignorance and wonders why Mateo would want problems with him when Johny
has always treated him so well. Johny knows that Susana’s death was hard on
Mateo, but Susana chose sides and started writing against Sanchez-Bueno because
of her own opinion. Mateo tells Johny not to dare say that Susana wasn’t a
professional. When Johny asks if Mateo has proof to back up what he is
alleging, Mateo confirms that he does; he has copies of all the evidence. (DOH
!) Johny plays it cool and responds that
he knows Mateo for a long time…and he knows Mateo is lying. What is clear to
Johny is that Mateo is set on this idea and no one is going to get it out of
his head. After Johny tells Mateo that he respects him for being firm on his
idea, Johny tells Mateo that his doors will always be open for Mateo and
whenever he wants to talk, Johny will be there for him. Johny then gives Mateo
some advice because he loves him…he shouldn’t be sniffing around for
information that could be very dangerous for him. After Mateo walks out without
saying a word, the assistant comes out and tells Johny that this has gone out
of his control. Johny assures the assistant that nothing will come of it; he
shouldn’t worry. The assistant insists that Johny is placing all of them in
danger.
At the jail, Barretos
tells Guille that his charges don’t allow for putting up a bail. Barretos
points out that Guille’s charges are very serious and advises him to
cooperate…he needs to tell the cops everything they want to know. When Barretos
asks who his accomplice was, Guille remains quiet; so Barretos tells him that
if he wants to get out of jail, he has no other choice…the cops won’t take long
to find his accomplice because Guille mentioned the name on the video
recording. Barretos asks who Toño is, but Guille still remains silent. Guille, you do stupid so well.
At Johny’s place, the
assistant chides Johny for making things worse. Johny gets his feathers ruffled
and retorts that he has never let them down. When Johny assures him that he
will take care of it, the assistant replies that if Johny is going to kill
Mateo, he’d better do it right and without any traces. If Johny makes a
mistake, Johny will be the only one responsible. Mateo: Make copies, LOTS of
copies.
At Beltrino’s house,
Beltrino assures Javier that he can beat any illness because he is a brave boy.
As Javier tells Beltrino that he is not a boy, but a man, Alicia quietly
approaches and listens as Beltrino agrees that Javier is a man…and that is why
he deserves a long life…that is why Beltrino is happy that Javier is back in
his house. Javier is worried, however, about his mother; he doesn’t know what
to do so that she won’t be sad. When Beltrino responds that his mother shouldn’t
be sad since he is back home, Javier clarifies that his mother isn’t sad
because of him (Javier); she is sad because of Beltrino. Alicia then asks
Beltrino if they can talk. Oh Noes, one
of those talks?
At Beltrino’s house,
Alicia admits to Beltrino that she is not well. She has been putting up with
one thing after another for her son whom she loves most in this world. When
Beltrino remarks that Javier is also his son, Alicia replies that it doesn’t
seem like it since he comes and goes and does whatever he wants to do. He left
them at the hospital. She withholds everything silently thinking the worst of
things. She asks Beltrino to tell her at
what point in her life things changed. Alicia thinks he has another family, a
“casa chica;” and wants to know if he fell in love with that girl and if he got
her pregnant. Beltrino swears he has nothing to do with that young girl. Alicia
cries as she asks Beltrino not to lie to her. Beltrino, in a soft tone, tells
Alicia that he doesn’t want her to suffer because of him. He knows she doesn’t
want to discuss the particular topic, but if she wants him to tell her and if
she doesn’t want any more lies, then he needs to explain but she needs to be
prepared to listen to the truth. When Alicia tells “Beltrán” to go ahead and
explain, Beltrino replies that that is the problem; he is NOT Beltrán Camacho.
He had already told her once and she said he was gone out of his mind, but it’s
the truth…THAT is his truth. He has no clue about anthropology much less
teaching classes about it. He continues that he has been acting strange because
he found the guy who has his body. As Alicia tries hard to hold back her tears,
Beltrino states his name as Macario Valdez, better known as El Chino
Valdez…that is the guy who she has in front of her. There you have it again A-Leash-a.
But you can't handle the truth!
At Silvina’s house,
Lupita tells Pancho that she won’t be able to sleep not knowing where her
daughter is. Pancho won’t try to tell her not to worry, but points out that
Juls is not a little girl; she can take care of herself. Lupita wonders if Juls
left the city and if she will ever see her again. When Pancho tells her not to
be so pessimistic, Lupita admits that it was her fault; he had warned her and
she lost her daughter. As Pancho hugs her, he reassures her that Juls will
return; they will talk and all will be well after they accept each other’s
ideas.
Juls arrives at Perlita’s
restaurant and asks for a job. Perlita agrees to see what she can find for her;
Juls need not worry…Perlita loves them very much and is more than happy to
support them in whatever they need. When Juls tells Perlita that she no longer
lives with her mother and that she will probably look for a hotel to stay at,
Perlita insists that she stay there…she can sleep on a cot until they find something
better for her.
At Beltrino’s house,
Alicia doesn’t believe anything Beltrino is saying and insists on getting an
appointment with the neurologist and psychiatrist. Beltrino urges her to
believe him; he knows it’s not logical…because it is not of this world. Alicia
cares only about this world, the real one. Beltrino retorts that even though
she may not care, there is another world…a world beyond death. After Alicia
orders him to stop his nonsense, Beltrino reminds her that she wanted the
truth, so she is going to listen to the truth…because there are strange things
that happen when a person dies and one of those is what happened to him. He
died and came back in her husband’s body. Alicia thinks he doesn’t know what he
is saying; so Beltrino reminds her of all the things that he does differently
when compared to Beltrán. Alicia believes it was because of the accident.
Beltrino heatedly asks that she explain his bad language, how he won’t eat the
herbs that her husband ate, that he doesn’t recognize the neighbors or the
other university professors. Beltrino shouts that it’s not easy to try to teach
classes about something he knows nothing about. When Alicia blames it on the
blow to the head, Beltrino asks about the sex; she hadn’t had sex in years…and when
they had sex the first time, she experienced something she had never had before. Alicia thinks that that was something that
was probably in Beltrán’s subconscious and it came out with the blow to the
head. Beltrino is only trying to make her see that he is not the man who she
thinks he is; he is someone else. When he grabs her and tells her not to get so
upset, Alicia yells, “Don’t touch me!”
First great idea you have come up with, Alicia.
At the cemetery, Barb
wonders what LCJ is hoping to find as he digs out his grave. After LCJ replies
that he wants answers, they hear a man shout out asking if someone is there.
Barb and LCJ quickly hide behind a tombstone.
(Ah, he will not notice the half re-dug grave, kiddos.)
At Beltrino’s house,
Alicia seems to have calmed down, but still insists that what Beltrino says is
absurd; she can’t make heads or tails of it. Beltrino explains that that is
what everyone thinks when they first hear of it. Beltrino couldn’t believe it
either and that is why, when he first told her about it and she preferred not
to talk about it, he dropped it and assumed life with her and with the boy.
Alicia believed that this was just a temporary crisis after the accident, but
now she sees that he still continues with his story. Beltrino assures her that
it is not a story; she needs to understand that. He didn’t insist on it in the
beginning because he wanted to protect her from something that he himself
didn’t understand, but it had to end. Alicia doesn’t deserve any more lies; she
should have the truth and he is telling it to her. Beltrino gently holds her
head as he slowly reiterates that he is not Beltrán Camacho. After Beltrino
goes to sit on the bed, Alicia asks, “Let’s say I believe you. Let’s say that I
believe that you are not Beltrán Camacho. Who is Macario Valdez?” Oh Boy, this
is going to hurt.
At the prison, Montilla
goes to see Guille in his cell. Montilla comments how much work Guille’s family
has given to the precinct, but he is very sorry to see Guille in this situation. After Guille states that he is also sorry,
Montilla thinks Guille probably doesn’t like the smell of the place; Montilla
would like to provide a place that is more suited to what Guille is accustomed
to, but this is all there is. Montilla then tells Guille that he has reviewed
his file and it is a difficult one. He thinks Guille will get used to it since
men always get used to everything. After Montilla tells Guille that he is there
to serve him, he advises Guille not to get into trouble. IE: This is your new home…get used to it, Gully?
The Carvajal ladies
arrive home. Vale feels sorry for Guille, but Eva thinks he got himself into
trouble. Vale is annoyed with Eva’s attitude and remarks that it is in times
such as these that she misses her father the most. Eva is doing the best she
can; she was the first one to run out to try to help Guille. Vale thinks that
Eva only did it to try to protect the family’s reputation, not to help Guille.
Lucía gets fed up with the arguing and tells Eva to sit down and relax. She
suggests that, since Guille’s girlfriend already explained to them what
happened, they allow the cops and lawyers to do their work. There is no use in
arguing among themselves, besides Barretos is a good lawyer….their father would
always say so.
In Beltrino’s bedroom,
Alicia wonders if Beltrino is going to remain silent. Beltrino doesn’t want to
continue discussing, but Alicia points out that he told an extraordinary story
and now he wants to stop; she again asks who Macario Valdez is. Beltrino would
like to tell her, but he knows how she will react. After Alicia insists,
Beltrino starts to tell her about himself—he was born in Tepito and never went
to school; he was very slow when it came to studying and, of course, he never
set foot in a university. It was a very poor neighborhood…so when he was very
young, they crossed him over to Texas. He grew up over there, again in very
poor neighborhoods, but in San Antonio. He was a thief, a gangster, he sold all
types of drugs; he learned how to shoot and became very good at it…he became
famous for it. Everyone knows him as El Chino Valdez. He became so famous that
the Cartel de la Sierra called on him to work for them because he was very good
at killing…the enemy. He then cautiously tells Alicia that there is no
university professor; he is an assassin…a sicario.
At the cemetery, LCJ has
reached the coffin. He and Barb struggle to open it to find—NO BODY!! LCJ
wonders where his body is; and Barb emphasizes that you shouldn’t fool around
with the dead. LCJ is sure they wouldn’t have buried an empty coffin without
realizing it. Barb thinks that the body was removed after the burial. Just
then, Barb and LCJ here a man shouting out and asking who is there. Barb does a
backflip as she tells LCJ, “Let’s go!”
In Beltrino’s bedroom,
Alicia watches as Beltrino uses his inhaler. She sums up what Beltrino told her
and questions if she should call the cops. Beltrino suggests she lower her
voice so Javier won’t wake up. Alicia then wonders what Javier will think when
he hears such an outlandish story. Beltrino knew she’d freak out; that is why
he hadn’t told her anything before…but it’s not worth it to keep on lying. He
knows she’s not happy and it’s not fair to her. Alicia looks at him; it breaks
her heart to see what the accident did to him. The doctor had mentioned
personality changes, but she never imagined it would be this bad. When she
insists that they return to the neurologist and follow his orders, Beltrino is
annoyed that she doesn’t believe him. Alicia continues to badger him and when
she refers to him as Beltrán, Beltrino hisses, “Don’t call me Beltrán! I’m El
Chino Valez! Get it in your head!” Alicia wonders if that is really what he
wants…that she wake up his son and tell him that his father is not his father
and that an assassin went into his body. She threatens that she will tell their
son or Beltrino should tell him. Gratitude, where are you hiding?
At the Carvajal house,
Lucía is sitting at the table with Silvina and apologizing for bombarding her
with all her troubles. Lucía never knew that money and power were accompanied
by so much loneliness, Silvina is Lucía’s only friend and she values her very
much. Silvina is happy that her friendship serves Lucía for something. When
Lucía tells Silvina that she needs her so that she can have someone to tell her
troubles to and release all her anger especially now that she found out that
Jacobo is a sicario, Silvina is shocked…she saw it, but she didn’t know it
until now. Silvina reminds Lucía of her gift…she never imagined that Jacobo
could be a sicario. When Silvina comments that Lucía is in love with Jacobo,
Lucía wonders if she “saw” it, but Silvina adds that it doesn’t take a “gift”
to figure that out…the brightness in her eyes changed when Jacobo first entered
this house. Silvina wonders why Lucía hadn’t told her if she is Lucía’s only
friend. Lucía agrees that love can’t be hidden…but it can’t be held back either
because she tried really hard. She fell in love with him, but now she hates
him. When Silvina wonders what Lucía
will do now, Lucía replies that she will do everything she can to make sure
Jacobo ends up in jail….she will never forgive him for making her fall in love
with him…that was part of his plan.
In Beltrino’s bedroom,
Beltrino can’t stand seeing Alicia suffer, but everything he told her was the
truth…it’s not the result of any blow to the head. When Alicia lays with her
back to him and doesn’t say a word, Beltrino gives up and tells her that they
can pretend nothing has happened...and he will be a professor who gives classes
on something he knows nothing about. He will be her husband, but if he
disappears or gets nervous and anxious, if he leaves the house suddenly, he
doesn’t want her to jump to conclusions; there is no other woman. He will be
doing something more important because he found the person who has his body.
(Yeah, the Rosita bridge is burned pretty badly.)
Leaving the cemetery,
Barb complains that she doesn’t know why she allowed herself to get talked into
doing such a crazy thing. LCJ is glad that they at least confirmed that his
body is not buried; it has to be somewhere. Barb thinks that this is very
strange; everyone knows who León Carvajal is and everyone knew about his death.
If his body were walking around somewhere, someone would have reported it. LCJ
thinks that his body is in some other country. (Oh my! Is he over at Death Chick's, tied to the
bedposts? Now we are cooking.)
Next
Morning—
At the Carvajal house,
Eva is in her bathroom throwing up (Oh, noes!!). She tells Mateo that she has
been feeling sick and thinks it must be something she ate at a restaurant near
the police station…and she has had gastritis for several days. She will be
going to the doctor on her own later in the day. When Eva asks why Mateo
arrived so late in the night, Mateo admits that he went to Johny’s house…he
just wanted to make it clear to Johny that Susana’s death will not remain as
is. Eva insists that Mateo let the police do their own work…they have enough
problems of their own. Eva then shares that she was with Vale who misses their
father very much. Vale wishes that their father were there so that he can
resolve everything. Eva cries that she sometimes feels that way too because
there are times when she feels she can’t go on. Mateo understands. After
Susana’s funeral, he will go by their house to see how the remodeling is going;
he wants to move back already since living in this house isn’t doing them any
good. When he tells her that he misses her and wants to be alone with her, Eva
opts to lay down to rest for a while (in other words, NO WAY, Mateo!!).
At Barb’s house, LCJ sits
alone thinking about his empty coffin. He turns and sees a black butterfly on
the wall, but when he tries to touch it, it flies away.
At
Beltrino’s house, Alicia sits in bed watching Beltrino sleep. When she touches
him and he wakes up, Beltrino tells her he had a bad night. Alicia points out
that he needs to use his nebulizer, he sleeps with one leg out, he pulls on the
bedcovers and doesn’t leave her enough space…just like he has done all their
lives…so how does he expect her to believe that he is another man? She has
hopes that the neurologist wil help them. Beltrino shows her the butterfly and
asks if Beltrán had it. When Alicia says that it appeared after the accident,
Betrino points out that it is the mark of the transmigrants…that’s what it is
called.
Montilla
goes to see Lucía at the Carvajal house (seems she is still in her
silk jammie robe). Lucía wonders if he has found out where Jacobo is, but that
is not why Montilla is there. Something strange happened and he wanted to tell
her himself. They received a call from the cemetery; it seems that someone
excavated León’s grave and stole his body. Lucía is dumbfounded! When she
wonders who would steal a corpse, Montilla explains that it is not unusual;
gangs go into cemeteries since they are usually unguarded and they steal the
valuables from the cadavers. Lucía wonders if that was the case, but Montilla
doesn’t think so…he thinks it’s more of a spiritual ritual or witchcraft. He
just came to tell her so that she wouldn’t be taken by surprise. When they
arrived at the cemetery, the press was already there and it will probably make
the headlines. It is making them on
Caray!
At Cami’s house, Cami is
jotting down the most current events. He writes about a soul meeting the person
who inhabits his body, but what was more surprising was what happened
afterwards which left him completely amazed. After he writes that he swears it
was a woman, Death Chick appears and claps. Cami stands up and starts asking a
slew of questions: Why is she there? Who is she? Is she death or something
else? He wonders if she speaks his language and even offers her a drink! After
he asks about the transmigrants he has met, the meaning of the butterflies, and
questions why death would put his friend into an assassin’s body, Death Chick
speaks, but only says, “You’re doing a good job.”
Cami quickly turns to
look at her, but Death Chick is gone!

Well she is a gymnast on the side.Kudos to Arturo Barba..feel in love with him in LByLB. I had tears when he was telling his wife the whole story...great acting......

So Lucia is seething because she's basically feeling the burn of jacobo doing to her what she did to Leon. Lol. Still not enough to repay what shes done, though. At all.
Jacobo wonders if Leon's body is outside the country. Shouldn't the bigger question be who took the body in the first place? Can't be johnny, as he seems very convinced Leon is dead. So who took the body, because if they took it Leon did survive the knife attack then. Why would anyone want a cadaver, anyway? Also, Leon's body could be held hostage somewhere in the country too.
Wonder what Alacran will say when he finds out Eva's pregnant. She can't even pin it on Mateo now cause she refuses to touch him. The signs are all there now, if he refuses to see the truth he's seriously blind.

Good morning Rgv Chick. Another great recap and a very special title. Well done. And the screencaps were excellent.
I continue to be entranced with the actor playing Beltrán. The way his voice broke when he referred to his son as "ese valiente chamaco" just tore me up. This brutish sicario has developed so much tenderness for the boy, and for Alicia as well, in spite of his natural impatience with her failure to understand.
But I tried to imagine what it must seem like from her perspective, and of course, his story is just too outlandish to be believed. Especially since she is an academic herself. We humans defend ourselves very well against any reality that is just too threatening or "out there" to be accepted.
Now that they've thrown Leon's missing body into the mix, are we going to find out that Beltrán soul is in Leon's body? And where is Maru? Will she end up working at Perlita's restaurant with Juliana?
Probably not. Seems like they are just letting that thread go.
Instead we've got the new horror of Eva's pregnancy. Actually her needing to lie down made lots of sense. Seems like you need about 12 hours sleep the first three months of a pregnancy, even if you don't have nausea (I had no nausea but boy, did I need a lot of rest at first). Still, it COULD be Mateo's. They did have that one romantic encounter when el Alacrán was out of the country.
Anyway, another absorbing episode, another great recap. Thanks Rgv Chick.

Thank You RGV Chik, great, great. For sure Eva will try to say it is mateo's but he didn't even enjoy it so it can't be his, right? :-) Take an untrasound, if it has a pistol, we have our answer.

What a twist to this already bizarre tale...a missing body. Anon 11:53, there are so many questions regarding the body. As LCJ pointed out, the body had to have been in the casket during the funeral or the family would have noticed. From what we have seen, a transmigration occurs immediately and the family believes that the host came back to life immediately. Why would this case be any different? Far-fetched idea--maybe Johny dug it up and has it hidden so he can worship it???

So what is it that will finally convince Alicia of the truth...or will Beltrino just let it go and continue on as he said he would? Eva's pregnancy--oh sheesh! You're right, JudyB, there is a slim possibility that it could Mateo's. He has been wanting a child so badly that he will be overjoyed and not even question anything. And, ewww, I would just hate to see a little scorpion running around.
Lots of things critical things happened last night, but what really caught my eye, was Barb's backflip when they heard the men calling out. I was I M P R E S S E D! What flexibility!

From what we have seen, a transmigration occurs immediately and the family believes that the host came back to life immediately. Why would this case be any different? Far-fetched idea--maybe Johny dug it up and has it hidden so he can worship it???

As soon as Eva was upchucking I had the same premonition. She is a crocodile. This is probably the prelude to Mateo finding out that she's been sweating up the sheets with El Alacran.
I dearly hope that Dona Muerte isn't coming for Camilo. The only wrong he seems to have done is leaving Mercedes alone to face the narcos. He is desperately trying to help the transmigrantes, so they need him. However, Dona Muerte is not predictable.

In the U.S., if you are an accomplice to a crime, you are charged at the same rate as someone who pulled a gun and maimed or killed someone. Guille can't just say he's sorry and look at all the good he's done. With the end of the tn coming so soon, something will have to be overlooked for him to get out of jail--especially if he's been told there's no bail for his type of charges.

She's been the unwitting contributor to Gaston's death, putting El Alacran on notice of a informant in his midst, causing the raid on Camilo's place as well as killing stories unfavorable to the cartel.

Eva's pregnancy is perfect. As much as is possible in Alacran's morally bankrupt world, he loves her. His sub-goons are not even allowed to discuss her. He would still kill her, I am sure, but that is just business. That said, his 'Son' will not be raised by some weanie like Mateo. And it will be referred to as his Son right up till the moment of birth might prove otherwise.

Guille is between a rock and a hard place. I don't know Mexican law, but his great failure was covering it up all along after participating in it. On top of that there is the surveillance video which is hard to argue with. He doesn't even appear to be prepared to claim innocence and looks about as guilty as anyone can. You would expect him to be blabbering on and on that he didn't know Tono had a gun or some such, but he is just silent.
