Amar a Muerte, 3/1/19, Episode 81: So Hard To Believe?

In the darkened theater, Lucia tells Jacobo, aka León, that what he's telling her is impossible.  How could he expect her to believe such a cruel thing?  Jacón replies that he's asked himself a thousand times the same thing.  She insists León died in her arms and she herself saw him buried.  Now he expects her to believe he was [like Dios] brought back and arose three days later?  "--NOT three days later--it was the same day!"  She accuses him of playing a disgusting trick on her.  He mentions things the two of them alone would have share: the origamis birds because she felt jailed and wanted to fly away; the dinner in Paris where she learned to eat snails; and the tea they had in Japan served by a geisha.  "--Come closer, Lucia.  I know that it is strange.  The body is Chino Valdez but the soul is my own.  I am León Carvajal.  It's name is transmigration of souls and that's what happened to me the day of my death."

Johny speaks to one of the security or police to trace Lucia's phone so he can "rescue her from a very dangerous man."

Lucia races back towards the lobby telling Jacon that it's superstitious rubbish; a person dies and that's that.  He insists to her that it isn't that easy and it is something he had to come to terms with and accept.  She insists he's lying to her and is NOT Leon because he loved her and wouldn't dare pull something so nasty on her.  He already admitted he hates her.  He declares that he finally understood he had to accept it all when he watched his widow and his former right hand man and best friend discussing how they had planned his murder.  "--So how did you divine that?  He yells back that he didn't have to.  He viewed it all through the cameras he had placed throughout the entire house and watched it from that secret room they discovered a few days back.  One of those cameras was placed in her studio.  "--And shall I relay to you what happened next?  Because I have the time to!!"  "--I am not going to play your little game!!"  She races out into the street just as Johny pulls up.  She gets in and tells Johny to floor it.
Back at the manse, Candela is making herself right at home.  She tries to pump Silvina for gossip about Leo and his family.  She wonders if he's part of the nouveau riche or old money.  Sil snips back at her that he's a man who made his fortune all on his own.

Renata and Kayla discuss her unease and mistreatment at los Carvajal; she repeats the same to Guille and says she isn't comfortable there and probably never will be.  She thinks they need to break it off because they come from two different worlds.  She's his girlfriend but gets treated like his secretary there, having to be fed in the kitchen like the household help.  He talks her into going back to the manse so he can deal with Eva once and for all.

The former opera singer allows herself to be regressed by Camilo.

Lupita tells Juliana that Panchito explained a few things to her and so now she's just fine about Valentina and Jules's relationship.

Meanwhile Mateo and Eva "discuss" her relationship with El Alacrán.  She wants to be forgiven.  He cannot do it, especially after learning she's been sleeping and then fell in love with the criminal.  Hell, she can't even tell him which of the two men she's slept with is the father of her baby! "--I didn't deserve this, Eva!  I didn't!"

Back at Cam's, Micaela is remembering her other life before this one.  She remembers her heart stopping and the medical staff trying to revive her.  Then she remembers seeing the warm, loving light, and later being inside a cave where La Muerte told her she was one of the chosen ones and gave her a choice to go on as planned or to do this little something to be an example.  When Cam tries pressuring Mic to go into more details about La Muerte's proposal, she suddenly wakes up and cannot remember.  La Muerte is standing behind them observing all.

Eva follows Mateo to the door.  Yup, he's leaving her.  There's nothing more to discuss.  He, however, will finish the exposé on her connection to La Sierra and denounce her.

Lucia, meanwhile, is hysterical.  "--Transmigration, he calls it!!!"  JC tells her to calm down and explain already.  She tries explaining to Johny how Jake took her to the same movie theater and played the same video where Leo asked her to marry him;  this was his way of showing her that he, Jacobo, was León--that he was León Carvajal!!

Val now finds Eva crying her eyes out on her bed.  Eva wants to be alone.  Val leaves.  The phone rings.  She sees it's Al and refuses to answer.  Al is upset that she's still refusing to answer him. Gancho says Al seems to be all out of luck and getting worse.

Bummed out, Jake calls Cam and tells him he needs to talk.  It's still dangerous to show up there but he's going to chance it anyway.  Also, one of the trannies is there that he'll like to meet, says Cam.

Mat has come back and is in the middle of writing his exposé when the editor comes by and warns him not to.  Mat raises his voice to the boss and the boss tells him to take it somewhere else.  He won't be caught in the middle of family arguments there.  "--Take it up with the owner." Mat tells him it will be the best thing the paper's ever published/he's written and then he's handing in his resignation.  He only hopes the editor has the guts to publish it.

Mayela shows up at the manse to try cheering up Val.  They decide to go out to the pool.  May just happens to have her bikini with her.

Eva calls her editor and gives him instructions if Mat shows up to write this problematic article.  He's not to tell a soul that she's called him either.

Mat doesn't mince words.  He writes that the connection from Grupo Carvajal is none other than his very own wife, Eva Carvajal.  A minute later, his editor comes over and says "his superiors" have ordered him to relinquish his rights to any and all Grupo offices/branches, sites.  Mat refuses but then Palomares tells him he'll be forced to call Security to escort him out.  Mat gets the hint and leaves.

At Barbara's, Belchin' returns and tells her that he got drunk and tried to force himself onto Lupita.  He got hit over the head with a bottle and did nothing, but he's ashamed all the same it seems.  Barb reminds him he's got two wives and families and needs to choose one or the other already.

Cam tells Micaela her regression and memory and realization of what she's there for has been very valuable to his research.  She says she once met a man that was able to enter other levels of existence. (Did I understand that part correctly?)

Ren and Guille arrive poolside and begin a chat with Val moments before a bikini-wearing Mayela appears and of course, warmly greets Guille with a kiss on the cheek--which Ren, to her credit, refuses to partake in.  Dinner together all of us tonight?  Why not.....

Mica informs Alicia and Cam that she's only has her dad left now and although she's well enough to leave the sanitarium, she's happy there and feels closer to Dios.

Back at Johny's now, he tries telling Lucia that Jacobo's tall tales are just that: tall tales.  Lucia insists that the things Jacon brought up had details that only she and he would have known about.  He suggests that Cam and he could have discussed them beforehand.  She says no way because there were tiny exacting extremely personal details that only she and Leo could have known.  However, that's not the worst of it, she says.  Somehow and she doesn't know how, Jake got into the room they found and watched them together.  He saw them when they discussed Leo's murder.  "--He knows that you had him killed."  "--He does?  Does he have any proof, because if not it's the word of a sought after hit man versus a respectable CEO."  Lucia says she's uncertain if Jake has any proof.  "--But perhaps he has copies of the security tapes."  Johny recons that if he had them they'd have been turned over by now and the jig would be up, right?  "--Who knows.  But, with all the cards and the video's and pictures?"  Johny tells her enough already.  It's all rubbish, period.  Just don't see him again!  She is not so convinced it's that simple.

Montilla rereads his note from El Chino/Jake.   "--Use your policeman's intuition.  There's a man at Grupo who is right under your nose and has been for a while: Johny Corona, CEO of Grupo Carvajal."  Just then Captain Martinez enters.  Montilla tells him to keep a 24 hr. watch on Johny Corona.  He's got an information in detail about certain bank accounts and, well, "--Just call it intuition...."

Back at Cam's again, Jacon informs his BFF that he couldn't stand it any longer and couldn't put up with the subterfuge.  He explained all to her.  "She freaked, ran out of there and rode off with Johny Corona!"  Just then Mica walks over and introduces herself to Jake.  "--Let's hope they don't put you into a sanatorium like me."

Back at the manse, Mat races in and gives Eva grief for firing him.  She tries telling him that it was only for his own good.  "--Oh, were you protecting me from your lover coming to kill me?"  Eva is serious and says if he publishes that story they WILL kill him.  "--Oh, that's great since then you won't have to decide who is the baby daddy after all, will you?"  He starts to pack up his clothes.  He  is movin' out and movin' on!

Outside, Ren complains to Guille again about May and her tricks.  Guille insists she's trying to be nice and bury the hatchet.  Ren has had enough.

Eva tries telling Mat that he can't publish a report that accuses her of a crime she didn't commit.  "--How can you say you didn't commit a crime?  Stop it already!"  She tells him she won't let him destroy and ruin her.  He tells her if she censors him he'll call the first competitor he can think of and give the story to them!  The only way she'll stop him is to tell her lover to come kill him.  "--Go ahead and tell him.  Tell your lover while you're in bed screwing him to come kill me."  He takes his suitcase and leaves the bedroom.  He ends up down by the bar in the living room with Guille.

Mat tells Guille that he's always had the greatest respect for his dead daddy, but he wants nothing more to do with Eva.  He won't tell Guille what the argument was about but says very soon he will know all and will feel just as disappointed as he.

Lucia is starting to see the whole picture and how all the clues fit.  She's going to research transmigration.  JC tells her it's bunkum.  She leaves for the manse.

At Beltran's, Alicia arrives while he's eating.  She tells him that she went to Dr. Guerra's and had an interesting time of it with Micaela.  Ali wants to learn as much as possible if the two of them are going to continue living together.  She says sensible things at times and at others she seems crazy.  "--Just like me, right?"  She mentions she is thinking of speaking with a shaman.  Belchin' warns her against it and tells her how his shaman went into a trance and died mysteriously.

Mica mentions to Jake and Cam that she knows a shaman and will see him as he is key.  Cam advises Leo to stay away from shamans as it will be too dangerous for him and Cam will have other things to do.  Mica will be on her own for that experience.

Lucia tells Alirio that they're making a stop first and not going directly home.  She gives him the directions.

Lupita and Juls are packing up when Lucia enters the room.

Poor, stupid, stupid DoorMat(eo). I suspect he will rightfully earn the Darwin Award in this show.

Does he publish his article? NO
Does he keep his stupid mouth shut until the bad guys and girls are in jail? NO
Does he immediately go to Law Enforcement with his proof? NO
Does he show Law Enf where Alacran is hiding? NO
Does he do ANYTHING to stop Eva from alerting Alacran and his hired GoonswithGuns? NO

I can't help but wonder how he has sense enough to feed himself. No wonder he is celibate.

Does anyone think Eva's having him fired is the last damning thing she will do? NO
Does DoorMat have any guarantee that his Bud Gancho will not shoot him? NO

Is it for the best that Eva/Alacran/HIS Stupidity take him out of humanity's gene pool? YES

NEXT: No mercy for Lucia....After Dumbass number two takes her on a marriage proposal reenactment and gives Lucia undeniable proof of who he is, what does she do? She runs straight to the evil one Johny Corona himself, hops into his car and tells all.
Has Leon learned anything? NO Same hound dog Leon in a fresh package. Leon, when you get to be your age, if it Floats, Flies, or Flirts, rent it.

Note to Camillo: Cave Shamans have a Questionable Reputation on the patio.

Camilo's house = El Hotel De Los Transmigrados.

While we wait--how many of our current (live) characters have had either a butterfly or Ms. Death Chick visit? Not exhaustive, just a ball park? I don't know why, but I think MDC has been more active lately.

Camilo
Barbara
Alicia
Johny
Beltie
Jacobo
Micaela

Who was it that reached up when she (I think) saw a butterfly on the wall (or curtain), and then it disappeared.

Interesting that in our character list who SHOULD have gotten visits, none for Eva or Alacran.

Kirby, great points on Mat. He has been a disappointment so far; but beware of a man scorned, especially when he had his wife on such a high pedestal and she fell into a bed of a scorpion. His passion throughout has been reporting the truth and making the cartel pay for his friend’s death. I think this is the push he needed to do just that.

Anita, it was Lupita who saw the butterfly in the curtain. She was about to reach for it when Betrino startled her. We’ve also seen the butterfly in the guest bedroom Renata was staying in at the Carvajal house; though she didn’t seem to see it. DC also appeared when Vale and Sergio were at Barbara’s house; and she visited Lupita and Javier when they were in the hospital.

Oh and Max, the dog, sensed DC at the very beginning when Leon saw her in the garden :-)

RGV--Thanks for the memory jog on Lupita.
That's right, MDC leaned over Javier in the hospital. He didn't stir, but Alicia did, but there was no one there.
I'd forgotten already about Renata. I wonder why she would have one visit her. She's been the most innocent of all the innocents--other than getting herself involved with Guille and became the unwitting accomplice for Guille to Castillo's shooting. I guess Guille should have gotten a visit by now, too, but none of the Carvajal kids have.

Yes, Maxx. If he would hire on with Montilla those two could wrap this up handily to (probably) all our satisfactions.

"by now, too, but none of the Carvajal kids have."

Death Chick is smart. She would not try to blow up a burst balloon either.

Sigh, I'm with the rest of you in not giving our sweet, naive Mateo much hope. Eva had a very cold look in her eye when she told him "I will not allow you to bring me down (hundirme). Pretty chilling.

Actually, for some reason though I was more incensed by spineless Guillermo, letting the bikini-clad Mayela kiss him again in front of Renata. And then defend Mayela as "just being nice" by showing up to supposedly comfort Valentina. I was a total cheerleader for that romance, but no more. Ugh. What a clueless doofus.

And was anyone else getting flirt vibes by the new character Michaela and LCJ? Just seemed to be a lot of mutual sparkle sparkle there. Will Lucia be replaced by a former opera singer now repackaged as a curvaceous student?

Hmmm...can you tell I'm trying to distract myself from the sure carnage that is coming? Well we do what we can.

Happy Saturday Patio. Gray and overcast here but we Ohioans are perversely proud of our crappy weather. We like to believe it builds character.

Judy, I'm with you a hundred percent. Guille does not deserve Renata. Spineless to even get within reach of Mabelline's tentacles.

But secondly, and to me much worse, totally disrespectful of Renata to put her through that and expect her to just accept it like a loyal pet.

JudyB—I certainly did catch the sparkle between LCJ and Micaela. That was the first thing I thought of, too. She certainly doesn’t have to carry around all the baggage Lucia has to (and I mean Johny the Backstabbing King of Port-a-Potties).

So, are we in agreement?
Eva doesn’t deserve Mateo...and vice versa
Guille doesn’t deserve Renata..and vice versa (Teo, where are you?)
Mayela certainly doesn’t deserve Guille, even if she is at his social level, or so she claims
LCJ should drop Lucia like a hot potato
Lucia doesn’t deserve Candela
Beltran needs to stay away from Lupe
Alicia doesn’t deserve Belatran (at least not 100% yet)
Javier does deserve Beltran
July and Vale? Toss up. Right now they are hurting each other moire than making each other happy.
Tlacoyo and Max? Maybe they oould learn to be mutually respectful and curl up in front of that ever burning fire in the evenings.
Johny deserves to live with Fab for the rest of his natural born life. They are a a matched pair.

Hooray, the recap is up. Will put my movie on pause for the duration, but will be back tomorrow.

Lucia will be forgiven, after some huge sacrifice on her part.
No surprise for me, if Eva walks free and (dead) Johny takes blame for money laundry.

Kirby: I'm NOT shocked Matteo got fired from his job. However, I'm still not convinced he'll make it to the Gran Final alive.

RGV Chick: Eva must have power & influence with the newspaper editors.

Steve: "RGV Chick: Eva must have power & influence with the newspaper editors."

Hmmmmm.........Eva Carvajal.........Groupo Carvajal....Coincidence?

Maybe not.

Gracias, Jardinera.

I have to agree that Mateo signed his death warrant. He should have just taken his evidence to Montilla and come to an agreement about how this should be handled... after sneaking a suitcase and his computer out of the mansion. That's probably too WASP an approach, but that's me. Novela writers seem to have a major preference for hotheads who don't know how to plan.

The black moths and Dona Muerte were in the scorpion's nest, but he didn't see them. He was in the next room and his view would have been blocked by Gancho and the others. We don't know, though, if he could have seen her otherwise.

We haven't had a good catfight in this series, so why haven't the writers set one up? Is that a dying cliche? We could have had:

Lucia vs. Eva
Renata vs. Mayeli
Alicia vs. creepy student (whose name I have conveniently forgotten)

I can't wait to see Johny meet his fate.

DoorMat is foolhardy taunting Eva to send her lover to kill him if she does not want the report published.

Does he not remember his first experience meeting Gancho where the GoBetween who set up the meeting with Gancho was subsequently very nonchalantly murdered on the spot when he was no longer useful?

Thank you, Jardinera, great job on the retelling of the events.

JudyB and Anita, that’s three of us who noticed that gleeful look in Micaela’s eyes when she saw Blue Eyed dreamboat. Can you blame her? RAWWR! But, sheesh, that would really set Eva off since Micaela is not much older than Val.

UA, yes, of course, DC did visit Alacran. Thanks for the reminder.

Anon, I’m not so sure Lucia will be forgiven, at least not by LCJ. Yes, he is stupid enough to tell her that he still loves her, but Leon was a righteous, law-abiding man; so Inthink he will want tondonthenright thing and have Lucia be held accountable for her part in his death.

Question...why is Gancho protecting Mateo?

Thank you, Jardinera. I have had enough of this death theme and am hoping that the next telenovela we watch has a less depressing theme. Even " Mi Marido..." Is getting dark.

Susanlynn, good question about Gancho. He has always been a cold-hearted killer and proud of it. For some reason, he has developed a soft spot for Mateo; maybe because he has been using Mateo to oust Alacran’s contact at the Carvajal Group. Now that Gancho knows it’s Mat’s wife and Mat was being played by Eva, he probably feels sorry for Mat. If I didn’t know better, I would think that Gancho is jealous of Eva. Do we know for sure that Gancho is married? Could he be gay?

Thanks, Chickie, I just couldn't figure out why Gancho let Mateo walk away. I wonder if that will ever be explained. Sussnlynn, waiting for the snow which is predicted to start here in about an hour and continue all night.

Rgv Chick, Gancho has talked about his wife and kid and not having seen them for a long time because of Alacán's diddling around trying to get el Chino. So I don't think he's gay. Just resentful of his boss and ready to take over his job.

Susanlynn, the snow here is beautiful at the moment and my drives today are not very far. I'm even tempted to go out for a walk in the park. Tomorrow though I'll be on the roads to get to my grandbaby and babysitting. Hopefully my trusty CRV will get me there.

Gancho is using Mateo, feeding him info about Alacran and the Carvajal money laundering in order to bring him (Alacran) and take over his position. Once in power, he can make his own rules and get to see his family as much as he wants. He really wants Mateo to succeed in bringing Alacran down but once he realizes that Mateo has wasted all his good intel, I have no doubt that he will not hesitate to swat Mateo off like a fly (as in, eliminate).

OT..judyb...it started snowing a bit before 4 pm....just as predicted. It is supposed to snow until about 3a.m. With an expected accumulation of 4 to 8 inches. I did my driving yesterday and today (went to meet my daughter's new golden retriever puppy Ellie. ) I will be in until my neighbor plows my driveway tomorrow...and I am never first on his list. Cabin fever. Watching Outlander to pass the time.

Susanlynn...how wonderful that there's a new puppy in your life and your daughter's. That is going to be fun. Glad you've got the Outlander series for these snow-filled days. My walks have saved me from getting depressed but people in the park often ask me "WHERE is your dog?" Our ailing cat keeps me plenty busy. Multiple feedings a day because of her difficulty chewing. But we love these creatures so what can you do? Looking forward to hearing some Ellie stories in the future.

OT...judyb...Ellie is an adorable blonde puppy...full of energy. Hub loved dogs, and I felt calm and close to him as I sat on the floor and stroked Ellie's soft fur. He took care of our daughter's other golden retriever Sammy , and he would have loved this frisky, pretty new pup. Life moves onward no matter what, n'est ce pas . Still lost.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

2 hour Gran Final for AAM on Monday, March 11th, 9:00-11:00 pm (E)

Does anyone know of a second site, other than YouTube, where I can watch some episodes I missed. I had them saved in my Private Playlist and now most of them say copyright infringement.

I like watching them at my leisure.

Please, any suggestions would be greatfully welcome.

Jar--Thank you for the recap. Each episode has just enough action to keep us on the edge of our collective sofas/loungers/rocking chairs. You manage to do the same, so we keep coming back for more. It will all be over so soon. Sigh.

RGV--Back to an earlier comment about Micaela. If she was an established opera singer, I would put her more in Eva or Mayela's age range. Still, it shows us a little of Leon's preference and enchantment for and by younger women. That very first hug that Vale gave Jacobo when he and Lucia returned from their kidnapping made me worry Vale would fall for him, but the writers decided to make it easy for us.

Getting nostalgic for Un Camino Hacia el Destino (well, actually for Dr. Carlos), I noticed in the cast list we have two who are in AAM (though they've done more recent tns I haven't watched): Claudia Martin (our Eva) was Vicky, one of the Mean Girls and Barbara López (our Juls) played another student, Lucero, who was duped by good-looking professor Diego, played by one of my favorites, Arturo Carmona (we hated that he was cast as a pervert).

Does anyone know who plays Panchito? The credits roll too fast for my poor eyes trying to squint at a small screen. I hope we see him again.

Urban--I personally don't like to watch girl fights in tns. It's not something we do, at least not at our age. It's undignified. I'm appalled that it happens in middle school and high school (or so reported or filmed). OTOH, in a tn, I don't mind a woman executing a deserving slap or two...or two guys going at it for some indignity. Go figure.

Victoria, all episodes are posted on Univision.com.
