Amar A Muerte, 3/9/19, Episode 86: In Which Confession Is NOT Good For The Soul

     Parte 1~~
  • Aprehensive over what comes next, Johny and Lucia walk into the living room followed by Jacobo, aka León who is ready for bear.  "--It's time that the three of us should have a talk."  Johny objects to speaking with a lowly chauffeur but Leo is ahead of him.  "--The chauffeur is outside and I am in here asking questions.  Now, there's no better time than now wouldn't you two agree?"  JC turns to Lucia and asks just what's going on here.  Lucia is temporarily suffering from lock-jaw brought on by severe panic.  "--Care to explain a bit about which one of you two orchestrated--or perhaps it was bright little Lucia who contributed to this plan."  JC starts to say "Excuse me--" but Leo cuts him off.  "--No there's nothing to excuse.  Or, well let's begin at the beginning: Wasn't it you who hired Lucia and put her at the reception desk so that she would stop me from entering simply because I didn't have a name tag [gafete]?" JC stutters and Leo repeats the question more forcefully.  "Jacobo, or Chino...or...--"  "--León!"

  • Mateo finally gets his big meeting with the La Sierra head hit man, El Alacrán, but it isn't the kind of interview he was hoping for.  Al greets him politely.  "--Eva says you're very well-bred.  So you came to say good-bye before leaving for [the great newspaper in the sky].  So how does it feel that she prefers me?"  "--For the first time they prefer you for something."  He gets a punishing blow to the gut.  Once he's caught his breath DoorMat yells that he doesn't understand how Eva could have lowered herself so much; she must have been forced."  Al guffaws.  "Actually, it wasn't difficult to convince her.  And she fell for the Scorpion's bite."  "--A woman like that is going to be the mother of my child."  "--It could just as easily be mine and you know that!"  "--Perhaps so, but then he will be an orphan....."

  • in the Comacho bedroom, Alicia's watching t.v.  Beltrán, aka, El Chino, comes over to her feeling sad and rejected that she's desperate to be with her real husband again.  She tries to explain that the sex is great but there's more to a relationship than that.  Before he can ruminate over that, he gets a call from Juliana and sets up an early morning meeting with her in the park.  He lies to Ali that it was a call from Barb to say hi.

  • Jul's asks Lupita what the big confab in the living room was about.  Lupi explains that it was Panchito proposing.  She's accepted although she's still married to Chino which bothers her as much as the erotic daydream she had right after fooling around with paunchy Panch.

  • Guillermo gives Renata the rundown about the big family come-to-Papa meet at the manse.  He pointedly corrects her when she mentions there's never a dull day in "his" family and says "OUR family."  They kiss to seal the deal on the next step in their relationship.

  • Eva is crying her eyes out and coming to terms with the soul of her dad living in the body of the family chauffeur.  She gets a call from Doormat saying "Good-bye as I'm about to die."  Then Al gets on the phone and tells her on "speaker" that hubby humiliated him and will now have to pay the price.  She threatens if he harms a single hair on Mat's body Al will know her wrath.  He'll never see her again nor ever get to know "his" baby.  Al cheers at that and rubs it in.  "She's finally admitted it's MY kid!"  She asks him what she must do for Al to let him go free.  He answers she can't do a thing, but Mat can.  He's got to stop the paper from publishing the article and to withdraw the charges against him.  Otherwise, Mat is mulch.

  • At the manse, meantime, Leo reminds JC of how they met.  It was at a publisher's conference lasting seven days in 2003.  Little Jonatan Corona would sit in the front row every day and listen intently to Leo's every word and every night they'd sit together and Leo would answer all his questions.  One day the car wouldn't start.  Johny came walking by.  Leo chatted with him and aske JC why he was always there sitting and listening and every night asking so many questions.  Little Jonatan's reply was that his daddy abused him and his greatest wish was to some day become a newspaperman.  The kid must have been a boy genius because he got an interview and though he admitted he knew nothing but how to serve coffee, he got an interview.  He was hired and went out filming and reporting the news and a little bit later, he was CEO of the company.

  • Eva tries but cannot get hold of her competition's editor.  She leaves a desperate message to cancel the story about Grupo C and La Sierra.  Otherwise her husband will be killed.

  • Al threatens DoorMat with a gun if he doesn't pull the story, but it's too late; it's already in the presses.  Anyway, if he shoots the reporter who wrote the story then it will become the next biggest scandal in all of Mexico and prove the story to be true.

  • Back at the manse again, Leo says he's bored with explaining the bit about transmigration.  But, he wants to make it clear that he will not stop until the two of them are rotting behind bars. Just then Leo gets a pain on the back of his neck (which should give him half a clue by now that that is not what La Muerte is interested in.)  Eva races out of her room and through the door at this point screaming that La Sierra has Mateo and are going to kill him.  Leo tries to stop her from running off but fails.

  • Leo races out to get the keys from Fabricio who is reading his phone or some such, and tells him insolently Jacobo's not supposed to be hanging around there, let alone yelling at him.  Leo hasn't the time to explain and is sick of Fabricio's lip.  He hauls off and hits Fab in the gut and takes off in the SUV after Eva.

  • Inside the house, Jo-Lu are beside themselves with worry.  Lucia's scared witless.  They've got to think what comes next.  Escape.  JC says he'll arrange it all.  They'll go off together and be rid of this all.  He leaves.

  • Upstairs, Juls calls Val to see how it all went and for an explanation.  They agree to meet the next morning.

  • Mama Cal advises Lucia not to run off, not to waste her life like she did.  Everyone makes mistakes and that can be dealt with.  Cal tells her to think this through very carefully.

  • Camilo calls Guille looking for Leo and learns that the family reunion went well enough.

  • Eva is still getting her competitor's voice mail as she's driving to Al's latest hide-out in the hills.  Leo is trying to follow her but loses all trace of her.  Suddenly he's hit with pain in his gut and is flashing back to his stabbing.  He looks at his stomach and it is bleeding.  He eventually passes out in the middle of the street while still sitting at the wheel.

  • Belchin' has his own death reminder and passes out on his bed while Alicia and Javier freak out.

  • At the same time, JC arrives at his office and begins deleting his computer files and shredding his hard copies of various plans and actions dealing with the political campaign and the money he's been embezzling.  He calls and leaves word with Mr. Candidate to erase all evidence of their connection.

  • Mat convinces Gancho to untie him but Eva arrives at the hideaway first and is led into the room where he's being held.  She is appalled at his condition.  She wants him let loose.  Al says no can do; he's got to withdraw the charges or else.  He suddenly points the gun at Eva's belly and says not only will Eva die but so will her baby.  Apparently DoorMat and Eva are silly enough to believe that Al would actually kill the love of his life and the kid he's so hot to claim as his own.

  • The next morning Val cannot find Eva.  She learns from Silvina and Lucia that neither Leo or Eva made it back home.

  • End parte 1 ~~
  •
  • =========================================
      Parte 2~~

    • Johny calls Lucia with instructions to make Leo think she  regrets having betrayed him the way she did.  He'll catch up with her.  She tries to comment but he hangs up on her.
    • Belchin' wakes up and races off to meet his daughter.

    • Sergio pulls up to the curb in his convertible having given Juls a lift there to meet Belchin'.  He cannot believe the man's really a criminal.  She says yep, "--a paid assassin and that's why he was executed--at least he was in his last life.  He executed a judge...and who knows how many others he killed.  That's why everyone who worked with him wants to kill him now.  They are the ones who kidnapped us."  Even her mother hasn't learned her lesson with him.  So now she's going to speak to him (for Lupi) to make him leave them alone.  Sergio wants to go with her in case he turns crazy violent.  "--No way.  And it won't be the first time.  I know how to control him."

    • Back at Ren's she's making breakfast before going back to work.  She asks him if he'll be going back to live at the manse now that his father's "returned."  Guille says no.  He's still planning to get an apartment with her.  In fact he wants to start looking today.  They hug and kiss, and she's all smiles.

    • At the basement hideout, Eva looks at the half-beaten doormat that's her hubby and asks forgiveness.  She's afraid to untie him and when she finally starts to, Al walks in with the morning paper that has Mat's article in giant headlines for which he orders one of the goons to slug him again in the face.  Mat states he will not withdraw the charges against him and he gets another slug in the face.  Al reminds him that if he doesn't not only Eva but little Almat will also die.

    • The police and Camilo come across Leo's car in the morning.  Leo revives and yells at Cam to jump in.  They drive away.  Leo remembers he needs to call Eva and needs Cam's phone.

    • Speaking of Eva, she refuses the breakfast Al offers and tells Al he makes her sick; just a little while ago he was threatening to kill her.  He chuckles and says she knows he'd never harm her, but Hubby doesn't.  Al asks what it was about her dad she needed to tell him.  Eva says he's returned from the dead and is walking around in the body of another man.  "--Who is the dude who won the lottery?"  Anybody he knows?  "--Somebody named Chino Valdez."  Al's jaw dropping impactado.

    • At the park now, Juls tells Belchin' she's done with having Papi interfering with her mother.  "--Great way to behave after I paid her hospital expenses for her."  "--That's the least you could have done considering all the harm you've caused us!!"  She refuses to tell him where they've moved also.  "--But you're my family!!"  "--You don't even know what a family is!You don't abandon a family in order to follow some criminals!"  He says he knows why she wants him to leave the two of them alone--so Lupi can go at it with that paunchy Pancho and she can hang with that deprave rich girl, Valentina holding hands and [some curse word here that Uni censored.]

    • Juls defends her relationship with Val as luhhhrve.  He says he left it up to Lupi to raise her and look what Juls has turned into!  Juls slams back that he doesn't even know her let alone her "girlfriend." If he knew what real love was he wouldn't have turned into the assassin that he is.  (Ok.  That's the writers' feelings and they clearly have been doing PSA after PSA in this scene and have been throughout this entire script.  We may tolerate but don't force us all to advocate!  And with this in mind, I will play Devil's Advocate with a fictional Chino response: "Parts is parts; you got the wrong ones and it smarts.  But parts is parts.  You may throw verbal darts, but parts is parts; Daddy and half the world will always consider you and her and these writers to be weirded tarts to be run out of town on tar and feather carts since, as some say, parts is parts.")  Chino warns her that she knows he always gets his way.  If Juls doesn't end it with that girl willingly, then he'll make her by force.  "--You're not my dad.  You never were.  All you are is a curse."  (A curse that cared enough to rescue her in an all out gun battle which he didn't need to bother with, sour cheeks.  You don't like your life, then change it, but don't forget he gave you life, and then a roof, food to eat and clothes on your back.  He still protects you.  He is doing the best he can with the few cards he was dealt.)  She leaves with her ever present sneer.

    • Montilla finally makes it back to his office and sees the forensic report on the fingerprints found on the discarded coffee cups.  He's going after Johny Corona for murder--the murder of Susana.

    • Meanwhile, Johny is trying to purchase two tickets on a plane leaving that night to anywhere in Europe.

    • Lucia has her bags packed and has gotten dressed.  She listens to the message JC leaves her:  be ready for him as soon as he comes; don't speak to anybody.

    • At the same time, Gancho leaves a cleaned up but very battered and bruised-looking DoorMat at the entrance to the police department to withdraw his charges.  Gancho reminds him that Eva dies if he doesn't do this.  He purposely doesn't accompany him into the building.  The other goon asks why.  "--It's full of cops!  Would you want to go into a room full of police?"  Nope.  They both walk back to the car to wait on Mat.  He immediately heads to a corner and calls on his phone to Leo--on Cam's phone???  Mat tells Leo what happened and that Eva got there at the hideout where he was taken.  He also informs him that he's there to withdraw the charges or Eva dies.  Leo says he'll meet him at the police department and to delay there as long as he can.  Leo needs to get help to Eva so where is Al's current hideout?

    • Al is chatting still with Eva and asks how she can be so sure the dude is really her daddy.  She replies it's because he told her things only her father could know.  Al is enthralled.  He wants to meet him, after all, he an Chino have known each other for years and years.  He wants to speak to him and soon!

    • Leo meets up with Belchin' and explains that the same gang of narcos that kidnapped Chino's daughter now have Eva and he needs Chino's help to free her.

    • The police caravan arrive outside JC's apartment complex and try to see him.  Johny tells the security guy who's not too bright to tell them he's not there.  Security Dude tells the cops he's busy instead.  They want to force their way in.  Johny goes out to the balcony, pulls his pistol and starts shooting like a lunatic.

What ever happened to the USB with all the incriminating info that El Chino took from Fabian's father? Now's the time to bring it out, Beltran!

Anon: Same thing I've been saying.

Like the Vino river phone. They just flat forgot.

Actually, didn't we see that USB stick surface briefly a while back?

Kirby— I think El Al got it from LCJ during the “exchange” for Juliana. I might be wrong and would have to do a lot of research.....

Anita, thanks. That rings a bell. I remembered seeing it and thinking a the time "Oh, there it is, now what?"

Thanks Jardinera, part one is good. Of course I have been waiting 70 episodes to see Leon confront Johny and Loosey so what's not to love?

Sheezo you just can't make these women happy....What does Death Chick want? Leon to find out who killed him and took everything he worked for and just forgive and forget? I am sure Leon didn't have that bleeding incident behind the wheel for running a red light.

And I wasn't thinking it was Death Chick's Jefe who said "Vengence is mine."

Jardinera, I fell asleep and missed this episode. Thanks for a great recap.

Loosey...good one, kirby.

Actually, Alacran asked for the USB during Juliana's rescue, but El Chino (LCJ) DIDN'T have it on him. He said they would have to set up another meeting to get it back, at which time El Al scoffed and said there would be no other meeting so instead he would just shoot Juli right then and there. That's when Lupita popped up and all hell broke loose. Right before the police got there Alacran yelled, "The USB!" and LCJ yelled "I have it!" but just then Juli hit Alacran and ran toward Jacobo and they ran off as Beltran shot Alacran, then all the shooting from the police and sicarios started, so no USB exchange. We don't even know whether or not he physically had it in his possession or was just saying that to stall for time.

WOW thanks Anon. So it is still floating around .

"Otherwise, Mat is mulch."

Love the way you state things, Jardinera. Fast and furious, as they say.

Well, I was happy to have a little bit of Johny's "back story". Sounds like he was a shrewd conniver from childhood, and worked his way up from member of the audience, to coffee maker, to writer etc. and eventually CEO. If I didn't loathe him so much, I'd have to admire his work ethic.

Having a hard time however believing that Candela has suddenly morphed into a wise and thoughtful moral mentor, but...okay. Her advice was good anyway. Did enjoy Guille's "nuestra familia" remark and hope that we have seen the last of the über annoying Mayela. Dislike her almost as much as I do Eva.

Thanks for Part 1 hard-working lady. See ya later.

Judy: Bold Prediction: The story will not get published.

It already did, as Alacran and Co. watched it on TV. Well, I don't know if the ink has hit the paper, but didn't we see somebody in Goonville too with a newspaper with a big headline?

Ok we have another "lost/forgotten" item. AAM = lost USB
LQLVMR = lost watch of Don Benjamin

And what ever happened to Servindo(?) He just decided he wasn't going to be fixated on Lucía anymore?

Um....remember Leon shot and killed him at the Carvajal Manse when he came to rape and kidnap tyhe entire family and invaded with all his goons?

Victoria, Episode 65.

My memory has gone to Mars. I guess that's why I can re-watch a novela. I've probably seen Alborada, Amor Real, and Pasión half a dozen times.

The final part is up. Thanks for waiting for it. Part two is better than part one. Anyway, read it and weep.

Why isn't BigShot Sicario Alacran's boss) being made aware of the huge cluster$#%& that Alacran has caused to put his money laundering "secret" business all over the front page and tv headlines? I thought he told Alacran that he had eyes and ears everywhere? Come on, Gancho, you're missing your big opportunity!

Thank You. Part two is really good. Yes where is Alacran's no-bullshit boss?

And to Mensa dropout Johny Bud Light...no make that Corona.......what better way to make Montillo and fifty cops in swat gear aware that you ARE in fact at home than to fire on them dim bulb?

I still think the best scene thus far was when Johny tried to bust in as usual to "HIS" house, (which he simply claimed, it seems), and Leon corrected him that it was still his house and the chofer was out front sucking turds as he usually is.

I kinda like the idea of Death Chick undeading these people who do not really deserve to die. Like Leon. But what was she smoking when she got with El Chino?

Anyway, I sort of see too that some of these short strokers may not learn their lesson any other way than to die a time or two. Kinda like the ghosts of Christmas past, I suppose.

I'm going to start paying more attention. :-)

Victoria, you just listed my three favorite telenovelas.

First of all, Jardinera--Thanks for the gift of your rhetoric. The style goes right with the action Friday night. I liked Mat is Mulch, too (especially since I have a nice, warm worm-laden, open air mulch pile just waiting for him). I don't want Johny, though, he's already rotten and too acidic for my soil.

Anon--Thanks for reminding us of the wandering USB. The list of tn loose ends grows. However, what does Alacran need it for now? He's been exposed in the press. He needs to move to Costa Rica. (Naw, that wouldn't be fair to Costa Rica--maybe Venezuela? Naw, they have enough problems. A nice cell in a super max U.S. federal prison might be nice, though.)

Kirby--maybe Death Chick and her Jefe knew Leon in El Chino would never survive long enough to put his family back on the right track, so They gave him a backup who knew how to think on his feet, handy with a gun, and could kick ass. Poor Alicia, though. Javier comes out a winner, with Daddy trying to be a mostly involved Pa.

I wish Leon could have "finished" his talk with Johny and Luci. He needed to tie them both up in some ladder-back chairs and have Silvina and La Candy make them drink tea until Leon got back. He's lucky Montilla got to Johny's before Johny was really gone. That image of a demented Johny firing on those bullet-proof jackets was funny, or not. Suicide by Police Action? Please, let us see something worse that everyone in the tn must witness. Invite Death Chick, if they must, but make it good.

Kirby: I anticipate Matteo will withdraw the charges.

Susanlynn: I see Montilla AKA Columbo is going after Psychopath Johnny. I hope Montilla has backup.

Quite an episode Jardinera. Thanks for all your work covering this and having to put up with a very tardy On Demand system. Often you were forced to fly without a net (and with so many mumblers on board, and so much slang, a tough job indeed).

Anxiously awaiting Monday night and wondering if the writers can wrap everything up in a credible fashion. Seems like there are still a lot of loose ends, including that pesky USB. But it's been quite a ride and never a dull moment.

Thanks to ALL the bloggers who dedicate thei time to bring us great recaps! All of you deserve applause! Can’t wait till tomorrow ! Every time a novela nds, I shoo my husband out of room, unplug the phone and will not answer door! I sit there absorbing every scene that hopefully ties up loose ends.Let Johnny and Eva get major anvils....Anyone on for Amor Sin Ley?

Has the blog moved? There used to be more conversations?

Thanks to everyone who came through and stopped to read what we wrote. It isn't easy and even moreso when you object to what they choose to dish out and then expect you to swallow it whole so that you want to choke, literally. It has been a really fun and interesting topic, otherwise, for a telenovela.

Greeting, Patio! Boy am I late, but a big thank you to Jardinera for such an excellent recap. I also want to give her a special thanks for helping in getting a recap team together for this TN. Very appreciated!

That darned USB--yes, Beltrino still has it.

LCJ's bleeding incident was scary, but OMGoodnees, Beltrino's shock incident was horrific! I don't want either one to die, but it seems their days (or hours) are counted...BOOHOO!

JudyB, I was always curious about Johny's backstory too. So his father abused him...or so he told Leon. Maybe LCJ should doubt even that now. Despicable man probably has forgotten how to tell the truth.

Anon 12:49, ITA about Don Terecio, Alacran's boss. He did say that heh as eyes and ears everywhere, so why didn't he fly straight over to CDMX to take care of his business--he did tell Alacran that he would kill him if he messed up again, didn't he?

Counting the hours for tonight!

Gracias, Jardinera. A lot of stuff went down in this episode.

Since Johny has a bad relationship with the truth I don't know whether I buy his story of an abusive childhood. Lucia's was very believable from the outset and I always get suspicious of stuff like this told at the 11th hour. Jacobo/Leon may not believe this and I wouldn't hold that against him.

El Alacran's boss might not be so vigilant due to the end of Armenta's cartel. Still, you'd expect him to watch out for new competition or want Eva rubbed out in case she talks.

RGV Chick: Something tells me we're NOT going to get a happy ending & I doubt we'll see a happy ending for everyone involved tonight.

Death Chick needs to make some last-minute appearances fast.

I think the finale is a double episode.

Hope you will all tune in for the next series, which will need more recappers. There will be interesting new cast members.

Kimmy Dos Caliente was on 'Fall down Laughing' the other night along with Zapada, I assume as publicity for the Season 2 of PASL.

The only thing I'm looking forward to about her is the possible parade of slutwear.

2hr fin starts 9 EDT

Urban said: "The only thing I'm looking forward to about her is the possible parade of slutwear."

Amen, you and me both Sister. Woof woof.

We haven't had a Fashion Felony parade in a while. We're overdue for one of those.

Maybe not, but Lucia gave it a good shot, we just had our hands full with her and Johny's criminal activities.

She did have a couple of things worthy of it, but not as much as the ones in 3x Ana.

About an hour and 30 min. to go to count down. Take it away RGV and Kirby. Give us something to hang our teeth on or in or whatever.

Beltrino just has to come out happy, or at least not dead, for JudyB's sake.
I'm looking forward to Johny's downfall, but not off his balcony.
For Leon's sake, I hope Eva doesn't die but just saying sorry isn't enough. What will happen to the baby.
I'm most worried about Vale if Leon and Luci go off into butterfly heaven. Will she want to move in with Lupe and Juls--think not. Will Silvina and Tiberio stay with her in that big empty mansion? Who would pay their salaries? Will Cami take care of her? Maybe they could collaborate on a teenage transmigratory young adult's novel. I can't see Guille and Ren having her live with them, they need to learn how to live with each other. He would be the type to make the sacrifice for his beloved little sister. Oh, Maybe Mateo and Vale could keep each other company while Eva serves a long, long sentence. Oh the possibilities.
Can't wait.

I wonder whether the authors of this tale have ever heard "When the Music's Over"? This lyric comes to mind:

Before I sink
Into the big sleep
I want to hear
I want to hear
The scream of the butterfly

I also wonder how much Jim Morrison may have known about Santa Muerte.
