Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Viernes 4/26/19, Episode 33: Sleeping Booty Awakes

[Note: Some scenes combined or omitted altogether because nothing. freaking. happened.]

Bufete Vega, Part I:

The evidence from the shooting is in, and it's super-confusing. Well, it's a little confusing, but the lawyers manage to make it way more confusing. Ballistics says that the shots were fired from both inside and outside the club, and the getaway vehicle in the video doesn't match the one that disgorged the killers of Gustavo's family and that Ale later followed to the site of Jaime's kidnapping. Is there one gang or two? Was Alejandra a target or just collateral damage? As usual, the Vegans manage to leave the information swap-meet somehow knowing less than they did going in.

TOHIMC, Part I:

The doctors withdraw Alejandra's sedation and she doesn't immediately croak, which cheers everyone up immensely. When Ricardo starts getting repetitive with all the te amo's and mi vida's, she can't take it any more and wakes up and agrees to marry him. He rips off his mask and covers her with unsanitary kisses, conscientiously putting it back on as he exits. I think they need to print the instructions bigger on those things.

Paula & Jaime rush Ale for a group hug. She parrots back all the love talk, but she looks kind of annoyed, like maybe she'd hoped to wake up on another show. (But now that she's conscious, can everybody go home and shave, please? It looks like the Waiting Room of Sierra Madre in there.)

Bufete Vega, Part II:

Quiroz drops in on Alonso to tell him he'll be needing statements from all the Vega lawyers. He mentions that he needs to talk to Carlos, too, but hasn't been able to track him down because he's a "special case." Well, he's got that right. Alonso rings up his former pupil and tells him to make himself available and oh, by the way, Ale's up. Ruh-roh. (Our Raul gets better-looking all the time, but would it kill him to smile? Even once? Maybe we need to fix him up with bouncy Tatiana, so they average out to one normal person without a mood disorder.)

Airport, Alternate Mexico City:

Vicky & Adrian are all business going over their case. He gets a call that he scored a morning appointment at some random government agency, and they celebrate like they just won the random government agency lottery. Vic waxes eloquent about all the choice words she'll have for the runaway husband, and Ady says he admires her for being such a little justicia-seeking missile. She starts to tell him that what she really likes about him is...and their plane is called, leaving him shambling at her heels like a puppy that's heard the clicker but hasn't gotten the treat.

Bufete Vega, Part III:

Manuel & Lorena natter on in the Law Library about how they'd love to go visit Aunt Alejandra, but all the other lawyers are out and they can't leave the firm unattended. That's right: the Venerable Bufete Vega is currently being run by two 14-year-olds who have been working there for about 20 minutes. Now that's an internship!

Manuel tells her that he'd be happy to run her by the hospital later, and maybe they could get some dinner after? She says sure, yeah, juarever; gotta get back to work. Honey, could you give the guy a break? He literally has no one else to play with.

TOHIMC, Part II:

Carlos shows up all verklempt and begs to see Ale, just for a nanosecond, he won't even talk, he just wants to look at her. Her parents reluctantly agree. Whyyyyyyyyy? Of course as soon as he gets in there he starts carrying on about how much he loves her, can't get her out of his heart, yada yada yada, while all she wants to know is who was that guy you were with at my bad party? Carlos just keeps looping the pathetic-stalker tape, and Ale grows more and more agitated -- Who was he? Who? Carlos! Tell me his name! -- until she suffers a seizure and starts flopping around like a Van de Kamp's fish filet. Aaaaaand...it's a wrap.

In Other News:

* Fernanda has invented some kind of app that's going to make the world a better place in some vague and unexplained way, but when she meets up with the scruffies who have been doing the software development, they turn out to be the same ones who just sold their firm and all its contents to Alan's shady client. They promise to put her in touch with the new owner.

* Juan shows up for work in a new suit identical to Roberto's. Merriment abounds.

* Sofia informs the La Cueva victims' families about the owner's pay-up-or-burn-up gambit, and they froth at the mouth in unison.

* In an egregious violation of Telenovela Law, Roberto does not see Vic & Ady getting into an airport taxi with all their luggage. Instead, he has to hear the news from Carmen. QTH?

* El Gringo, transferred to yet another secure location, rasps on about some chick named Michelle who seems to be making a lot of high-level decisions. Can't wait to see the man-eater outfit she eventually turns up in.

Blue Lass: I'm looking forward to seeing this recap.

Whew! Blue Lass--you are a glutton for punishment. I only have company coming and I freeze thinking about doing a recap.

Advances and setbacks on all fronts. Just when we thought Ale was out of danger, Carlos tries his magic on her. He certainly is trouble, wherever he goes. And he does NOT want Ale to put two and two together about the guy he was with in the restaurant, whether she recognizes the voice or not, any interest in his relationship with El Ciego will be bad news. I worry about Nancy, too. She's too smart and we'll have to see if she wants a cut of Carlos' "nighttime" business or whether she'll investigate in order to put him in jail.

Too much time spent in the hospital. Loved that deep rose velvety bed jacket Paula was wearing, it just ripples, sways and flows when she moves.

Sadly for Bobby, I kind of like Adrian and Vicky together. He is the steady rock to her raging river, outsized, rollercoaster personality--always up and on the go, or down, clutching a pillow in sadness.

Hey Blue Lass, whatcha doing in my ‘hood? Haha

I can’t believe what Carlos did! Just when Ale was seemingly on the road to recovery.

I definitely agree about Vicky and Adrian. Although it’s purely business who knows what could happen when they are in TX.

Wrote the recap on the plane -- typing it in now.

Order up!

Great stuff.

I think they need to give Raul a private life and a girlfriend. He's attractive and I don't want them to cut his hair too short. I've seen a few spots where the scenes were clearly shot out of order vis a vis his trips to the barber.

I want Carlos to pay big for what he just did to Alejandra. Maybe El Ciego will make him sleep with the fishes.

More later.

Blue Lass--I've only read the front page and couldn't resist....laughing and letting you know. You should go to Albuquerque more often. Ok. back to the humor column.

Blue Lass....This is rich. Thank you! Great post including but hardly limited to:

"When Ricardo starts getting repetitive with all the te amo's and mi vida's, she can't take it any more and wakes up and agrees to marry him."

Is this law firm supposed to be competent? I've seen the posts correcting some of the legal misinformation but am wondering if that's becoming a full time job for re-cappers. The "investigations", and the impression given of Mexican law. Is it really so that a mother and grandmother can be imprisoned on false charges of car theft by a guy who didn't show up for court but is represented by a winning a winning vindictive prosecutor nonetheless? Really? Why is it still bit known by all parties that Ale stupidly found the disgusting kidnap site...which is why she was targeted? Maybe Ale is going to die after all? Letting Carlos visit? Wha?

And I keep getting confused between El Ciego and the other El. Getting on in age but still...Who's who and why was the sicko ringleader so PO'd after all the shooting subsided? He indicated he'll do the final killing...of who?

I'm against Carlos being taken out in a blaze of gunfire, killed off in prison, or by hanging....needs to spend the rest of his life in some deep dark pit.

Thanks to all the recappers who are doing such a great job and Blue Lass, love your humorous touch.

Dona Felipa--
We all agree there are too many masculine nouns running around. Apparently there are two rival gangs in town. The one led by El Gringo has moved into El Ciego's territory. That's all you really need to know. But...that's why El Ciego torched the nightclub, all to kill El Gringo, but he survived. El Gringo's gang got mad and followed him to the restaurant where El Ciego was hot to catch up with Carlos. There's where the crossfire got Ale (and seemingly no one else) below the belt. So both gang leaders are angry and frustrated.

I can no longer remember if Jacinto Dorantes had any connection to El Ciego, but he and his brother pulled off something egregious against the firm. Jacinto was knifed in jail and Ramiro is too scared to talk to any of the Vegans. (Loved their new collective title, Blue Lass.)

We haven't seen too much of what El Gringo is up to, but we know El Ciego now has Carlos in his pocket (they had served time together in prison at the beginning of PASL I). He also was instrumental in kidnapping Jaime.

This was a snortfest of a read starting with "Sleeping Booty". You are so funny, mi amiga. "She didn't immediately croak" Hahaha! "Can everyone go home and shave?" At least Ricardo finally changed out of his bloody shirt. And why didn't one of the other Vegans offer up his shirt to tie him over til he could go home and shower and change?

I'm giving my QTH today to Ale's parents for allowing Carlos visitation. Like Ricardo hollered a few days ago...what is he even doing there?

The gemelos in their matching suits was hilarious! Even when Roberto took off his jacket and was just wearing his vest, Juan had to follow suit. (Pun intended.)

I think they are waiting to see if Dynasty gets renewed to determine if Ale will stick around in this world. The way she was so gushy saying how she loved Ric, her parents and Victoria seemed like final words.

Thanks again for spending your flight writing the recap, typing it up when you should be catching up on your laundry and especially for bantering with me in real time when it was airing. I wish we lived in the same time zone, Blue.

R la O

Jacinto Dorantes was previously connected to El Ciego and it was he who got El Ciego to arrange the kidnapping of Jaime in revenge for him dropping him as a client.

Carlos still doesn't know that El Ciego was the kidnapper. Since secrets don't stay buried forever in novelas we can expect a spectacular reaction when he finally finds out. I'm still trying to decide if that reaction will be worse than the one he will have when he finds out that Alan killed Patricia and tried to frame him for it.

Police incompetence and political corruption are not new subjects in telenovelas. Also, their lack of habeas corpus and the concept of guilty until proven innocent is something that will look wrong and corrupt to us. The writers could be roasting this at the expense of verisimilitude.

I'm also WTF on Alejandra's parents allowing Carlos to visit her, although I doubt that they could have stopped him if they had not.

TF, where are you located?

R la O, I may end up in your time zone someday. We loved New Mexico and are thinking of retiring there (if we ever retire.) In the meantime, I expect to make an annual pilgrimage.

Dona Felipa, here is a guide to the nouns so far:

El Ciego (The Blind Man): wears shades, in cahoots with Carlos. His henchnouns are El Gato (The Cat), deceased; El Chivo (The Goat), right-hand noun; and El Cuervo (The Crow), new, fanatic, and sleeveless.

El Gringo (The White Guy): rival gangleader and drug lord. We haven't seen too much of him, but the actor trained in the US and is said to speak English well. We'll see.

Grateful for the insight and background clarification. Will probably need to refer back to these comments again to keep track Admire those who can keep it all straight and can share the back story from last season. Thanks so!

t

Blue, do you have to be retired to move to NM? And can't you move a little further north and west, to say... Utah?

You guys are amazing keeping all the El Nouns straight. It is a bit confusing.

What's going on with the memory lapse of Bug Eye's mom? That could be a touching, and relevant to many of us, storyline.

Dynasty has been renewed for Season 3.

Adios, Little Dimples.

HA! Maybe Ricardo will also say adios, unless Sofia steps in to save him from himself, but, unfortunately, not from us.

If Sofia tries to make a move on him now I will lose what little respect I have for her. She may have problems of her own coming up with her mother.

Thanks, Blue Lass. Ale waking up cause Ric's te Amos got repetitive -- too funny.

Mom or dad should've at least gone in with Carlos when he visited. They know how obsessive and pushy he is.

Blue Lass lovely recap. Who knew that writting a recap in flight would be this good.

Thank you Ms Lass

Carlos is a walking dissaster( with 2
S's) ale was doin fine, mom and dad
Should have let that mistake in a suit
See their only daughter in her very weakened state. I knew something would happen, but this is bad. They should have shot him in The shootout.

Vicky and Adrian don't have the fire that she and robby has. Day is cute but soft. He dosen't give Vicky that spark that robby does. O well let's just see where this goes.

Have been out of town and definitely out of the loop Blue Lass, but great to come back and find this hilarious recap waiting for me. Yes, wicked wicked wicked to say Sleeping Booty and couldn't agree more about the mysterious mask protocol. We wear it, but take it off to murmur inanities as well as bestow sloppy kisses on our comotose intended. WTF indeed.

As sweet as Li'l Dimples is, I'd be okay with her demise if it meant less of Ricardo in the show. The man is about as fun to watch as a Cigar Store Indian.

And agree with Nina that the chemistry between Victoria and Roberto is a lot more fun than the tepid conversations between her and Adrian?-- is it? See, he's so boring I can't even remember his name.

Ah, retirement in New Mexico. At one time we thought of that. Alas, it would be too much distance between us and the adult children and grandchildren. But love that area. Worked in Albuquerque for a summer, and have vacationed in Ruidoso and the environs. And still remember an amazing opera under the stars that I attended in the 60's. Also precious memories of strong coffee, hot food and blond, broad-shouldered Mormon cowboys. All good.

Okay, back to reality. Dishes, and cleaning bathrooms!

Recap for last night's will post in about an hour. This week most of mine will post about that time or a little later due to Wagnerian observances. Last night it looked like a packed house. Since the curtain times for tonight and Thursday are earlier than usual-- and will run later than usual -- I will be completely wiped out this weekend.

I agree that Jaime and Paula should have forbidden Carlos to enter Alejandra's room. He had no business being there in the first place.

Nina: Jaime & Paula will deeply REGRET letting Psycho Carlos entering Alejandra's room. I KNEW it was not going to end well.

Once the obsessed ex walked into the room, it was RIP Dimples.
