Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Jueves 5/23/19 Episode 50: The First Salvo

Scenes combined where it made sense to do so.

Mexico City:

El Ciego told Carlos that the police got one of his men and that he had to get him out. He blamed him. Nancy came down the stairs. El Ciego said Hello to her, hoping to find out more. He whispered to Carlos that she should not interfere in his business. He left. Carlos then told her to stay out of this. She said she just wanted to help and he told her that she will do what he demands.

El Gringo talked with his goon about why he didn't kill El Chivo. It was because he was ratting out El Ciego's movements to him so that he could eventually lower the boom on him.

New York:

Olivia coached Cristina on how to talk about this. They were on the ground floor of Blums' building. She did a selfie video in which she talked about Blums' sexual demands and her termination for non-compliance. She encouraged viewers to report incidents like this without fear and to share the video. Adrián and Sofia seemed satisfied.

Guadalajara, Jalisco:

Josefina talked with her sons about the business. The two had been fighting over who will run the company.Victor pulled a pistol on Camilo, calling him a traitor. Josefina – who has bigger cojones than either of them – pushed the gun aside and told him off. Victor then told her that Camilo was selling his share to their principal competitor. She demanded the truth from Camilo, who then said he met with them in order to protect his interests so that Victor couldn't put him out on the street. Victor accused him of incompetence. Josefina stopped the argument and told Victor to leave her alone to talk to Camilo. He walked away and Josefina slapped Camilo hard. He tried to complain about how Victor treated him but Josefina wasn't willing to listen. She told him to get lost. He walked away.

New York:

All her lawyers encouraged Cristina, saying the video will reach many women in her position. Leonardo then talked about contacting the media.

Mexico City:

Ricardo and Lorena were in Family Court for Fanny. Ricardo gave his opening statement regarding the nature and duration of the relationship between his client and Janneth. He also described Janneth's parents' reaction to her orientation. He added that the child was loved and that it would not be a positive thing to take her away from her one surviving parent. Lucrezia's lawyer [who finally has a name: Guzman] said that legally Estefania Cordova had no legal right to the child because she is not a blood relative. He added that his client was prepared to provide whatever therapy the child needed. Lucrezia stood up and said she would because of the example set for her granddaughter, which will destroy her. The judge told her to shut up until she was spoken to. Guzman got her to sit. Ricardo read a file stating that the Supreme Court had ruled that a minor has the right to be heard in such cases. Guzman objected on the grounds that the girl was only nine years old [Hmm.. she looked at least 12 to us]. Ricardo said that was not relevant. He asked the judge to allow the girl to exercise her right to be heard. Lucrezia stood up, slapping the table. Guzman made her sit down again.

Guadalajara, Jalisco:

Alonso and Gustavo arrived and Josefina told them what happened. She didn't want to favor either son but Alonso told her she had to get tough. She signed the contract and told him to do what he had to do.

Mexico City:

Guzman stated that the law grants custody to his client, Ricardo said that Carla had the right to be heard, and Lucrezia was out of order again, ranting about children should not be exposed to bad influences. Ricard looked as though he was letting her have the rope necessary to hang herself. The judge ordered her back to her seat. Ricardo told her that Carla received love and care just like in any other family. Guzman guided his client back to her seat and the judge asked Fanny if she wanted to say anything. She said that she and Carla were suffering because she had not been able to care for her due to this situation. The judge was not prepared to make a decision without hearing Carla's testimony so he was going to ajourn until the next day. Lucrezia objected to this, telling the judge she refused to permit this. The judge told her that if she prevented it she would be commiting a crime. He adjourned the court. Lucrezia continued to rant. [One wonders whether Ricardo and Lorena were pitying Guzman.]

Lucrezia tried to pick a fight with Fanny, who said she just wanted to take care of her daughter. She ranted more in the same vein. Guzman had to restrain her while Fanny leaned on Ricardo and Lorena. Guzman got her out of the building. Fanny got upset and Ricardo promised he would put this right.

Carlos and Nancy went to see El Cuervo in the lockup. He was not armed when arrested. He needed a doctor for his injury. She told him she would get him out but he would have to do as she says. He was alright with that as he was not able to run with his recent injuries.

Javier visited Quiróz and showed him a photo on his cell phone of a female trafficker (probably Michelle). He told Javier he didn't have the time to investigate everything, but Javier said they should just share information and he would work his own way and wouldn't get in his way. Quiróz agreed and went back to his computer.

Nancy went to the police chief to get Ulises Sanchez (El Cuervo has a name) released on the grounds that there was no actual evidence to prove his involvement in the various charges. Interestingly she didn't try to seduce him [nor was she dressed for it].

Guadalajara, Jalisco:

Victor went into the processsing plant and followed Camilo, who was walking behind Alonso and Gustavo, who were there to talk to them. Neither of the sons wanted to talk to the lawyers. Gustavo told Camilo that by selling out information to the competition he was violating company confidentiality and mercantile law. This could land him in prison for six years. Camilo refused to believe that his mother would do this to him. Gustavo told him to sell his shares to his mother. He also told Victor that his death threat was a civil crime. Victor thought he was in the clear because he didn't make good on the threat. Alonso told them that the only satisfactory outcome would be for both to sell their shares to their mother and withdraw from the business because their mother could not tolerate their infighting. Camilo agreed and signed, but Victor would not. He said he would get his lawyers on this and win. Each walked away.

Mexico City:

The police wanted to keep El Cuervo in lockup but Nancy kept insisting they had no proof. Finally the chief said he would release him [I think because he couldn't tolerate her bitching at him].

Ricardo filled Victoria in on the custody case. He didn't want to subject Carla to having to testify in court but recognized that this was the only option. Victoria advised him that his main obstacle was that the girl was not also registered as Fanny's daughter. He was to get the girl to testify as to what life with Fanny and Janneth was like. She was sure that his client was in good hands.

Javier talked to a bald man in the lockup about the night of the fire. He wanted to know whom the guy worked for. In exchange he would talk to the man's lawyer about getting him out.

That night Nancy went to Carlos' office to tell him that his client was freed due to lack of proof. He said “Good job” before closing the door. He told her she would get a bonus for it. That wasn't enough for her. She wanted his full trust, which he was not about to give. She pointed out that it looked like El Ciego was in control of him. He grabbed her arm and pulled her forward, but she disarmed him with her most potent weapon. [Raymond Chandler would have loved this.]

Javier told the prisoner that he knew the fire was the result of rival cartels fighting over the territory it was in. The prisoner claimed to work for nobody. Javier said he could get him out. This read much like Gustavo's attempts at getting information out of Ramiro Dorantes. The man would not talk. He told Javier he would prefer to be alive and locked up and told him he ha no idea what he was dealing with.

New York:

Cristina's video was shown on television news. She talked to someone on the phone to meet the next day in the hotel restaurant. She called Leonardo, who was watching the video on Olivia's cell phone. They needed to prepare an aggressive defense but for the moment to wait for reactions. He was sure that Blums' army of lawyers weren't going to take this lying down because the press exposure will be very unwelcome. They were to meet in the morning.

Guadalajara, Jalisco:

Alonso and Gustavo ate at an outdoor restaurant and talked about how the two sons will not taking this one lying down. Gustavo mentioned how difficult this decision had to be for Josefina as the mother of the two hotheads. Alonso explained that he had known Josefina his entire life and knew her husband. He was with them when they drew up the company charter, etc. When Gustavo said he didn't need him on the case and didn't need to take care of him, Alonso said that he needed him because of his concern of losing objectivity on the case due to how long he knew Josefina and he also needed his expertise.

New York:

In a rooftop restaurant, Adrián looked at his cell and commented on how many comments there were for Cristina's video and how many women were coming forward with their own experiences. Cristina got a message followed by a phone call from a morning news crew. They wanted her on the early morning news. She told Adrián and Sofia who said to do it. It's a go.

Anita will be doing Monday this week.

Thank you, Urban for the very detailed recap of this episode. You clarified so much about the case Alonso is handling for Josefina.

I really thought Alonso took Gus along so there might be some vibes between Gus and Josey, but she directed all her remarks to Alonso, while Gus just sat there. No wonder he later told Al he felt he wasn't needed.

Those two "boys" look so incredibly different, I wonder what Josey's hub looked like.

Nancy sure manages to get her way whenever she wants. Didn't she do that in the earlier situation where she sprung someone just by hectoring the official that they had no proof? She makes it look so easy to get clients turned loose.

Good luck to Cristina. Is this supposed to take place now, in the post-Weinstein days? If so, they will probably have better luck than before.

So, Ric promises Fanny to make it all ok. In the standard TN Handbook of Clichés, that would spell doom. But this isn't a relationship between a man and a woman, but client-lawyer, so maybe he will prevail. So far, has Vega actually LOST any case?

Vega lost a case when the lady lawyer( who was having an affair with another lawyer in the same bufete) tried
to go it alone .Alonso didn’t want her to ; it looked like a non winner. The man who wanted to sue some beauty product that didn’t make him appealing to woman, He said the product was a false advertisement. They lost......
She licked her wounds and on to having office sex with her coworker.

You dipped all the way back to Season I! Now I remember. She's the one that got canned along with the attorney she was boinking - Leticia & Benjamin. OT--Eva Cedeno is now in a role on Un Poquito Tuyo, playing a leech of a sister to Jorge Salinas.

Yes, and she has been replaced by one with sleazier clothes and an equally sleazy hook-up. I wonder whether viewers wrote in and told the production team to make her wardrobe more respectable.

Notice that Victor is played by Fernandino Valencia of LQLVMR. What a performance he gave in that one.

Lucrezia look like a crazy person. Ive
Seen this actress before. She looks crazy in This part. And where is gramps? Ok he's probly home with the little girl. If grandma haven't eaten him.

Carlos is like a puppet to ciego. Looks like naughty Nancy is becoming one too.

I'm surprised those 2 bros haven't put
Momma in the psych ward so they can take control of the company.

I hope blues don't do nothing like try
And have Kristina gushed up.

Thank you Urban.

Lucrezia is a toxic person, no question. I have to wonder what sort of a mother she was to Janneth before all this happened.

Carlos is a puppet and I think he may be figuring that out now.

Victor and Camilo don't have the intelligence to think of such a thing. In fact, Josefina now has grounds to commit Victor.

Thanks, Urban. All my fogginess is cleared up now. Everyone speaks pretty clearly here, but sometimes I can't cut through the legal mumbo jumbo.

Liked Ric's cool in court and his reference to the Supreme Court ruling on kids' right to testify on such cases. Sometimes the hotshot Vega lawyers go into court with a lot of righteousness but little legal facts, so that was a nice touch. Maybe the show finally hired a legal consultant? Nah.

I still don't know Nancy's end game, but she deserves better from Carlos after putting her neck on the line for him.

Nice to see Fernandino and the actress playing his mom in guest roles. If mom cuts out the brothers, I'm wondering who she'll install in their place.

Good question. Maybe she has a gentleman she hasn't introduced to them yet. That would send their blood pressures through the roof.
