Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Miercoles 5/1/19, Episode 36: Loss and Recovery
Victoria
knew from the tone of Roberto's voice that something was wrong. He
told her that Alejandra had died. He explained that there was a
complication and she became brain-dead a few hours previously. He
couldn't believe it any more than she could and apologized for
telling her over the phone. She told him she would be alright and
would talk to him later. Adrián heard her end of the conversation
and also couldn't believe this. He tried to embrace her but she
became angry at the injustice of it. She then said she had to get
back to Mexico to be with the others.
Sofia
tried talking to Camila about her health. Camila said she was
alright, but Sofia wasn't so sure. She asked whether she had seen a
doctor recently but she said “Why?” She tried to deny that
anything was wrong. Sofia was still concerned, but then told her
about Alejandra. Camila paused and picked up her tea, saying “How
horrible.”
Ricardo
was alone in the funeral parlor, leaning on Alejandra's coffin,
saying how much he loved her, then saying he would get justice for
her. He cried and almost collapsed. Gustavo arrived and told him he
would be there for him as he had when he lost Isabel and Luis.
Ricardo said he could not imagine his life without Alejandra.
Gustavo told him that the sadness doesn't go away; he had come to
live with it. What they both needed to do was to find the
responsible parties and get justice. He hugged Ricardo and cried
with him.
Adrián
told Victoria he would take her to the airport to get the first
flight back to Mexico. She came to her senses and told him No. She
had to see this case through by being present for the arrest of
Andres Camacho. She had to win this case as well. He told her to
count on him all the way. He then embraced her.
Paula
and Jaime entered the room at the funeral parlor, Paula still not
comprehending why her daughter had to die so young. Alonso arrived
with Lourdes and Alicia.
Camila
said how horrible this had to be for Paula and Jaime and asked Sofia
if she was going to the wake. Sofia told her she wanted to but
didn't want to leave her alone. She tried to convince her mother to
see a specialist, but Camila refused to. Finally Sofia asked Camila
to go with her.
Alonso
told Ricardo they could not go back to the past, that the only thing
they could do now is to go forward and live the ideals they shared
with Alejandra. Juan, Roberto, and Nicolás arrived, hugged Ricardo,
and cried with him. Then Carlos darkened the door and Ricardo was
ready to thrash him. Roberto stopped him.
Victoria
drank some water, her eyes still red with tears. Adrián asked if
she had packed. She said No, and that because Alejandra always
fought for women and children she would win this case in her honor.
He told her he would help her. Alejandra would have done the same as
she. He said she was one of the best lawyers he knew, like her.
They agreed to stay in Austin until they found their perp.
The
other mourners arrived and the room was full. Sofia and Camila
arrived. After the introduction and the standard “I'm sorry we had
to meet under these circumstances,” Victoria called Ricardo. He
stepped away to talk to her. Sofia introduced her mother to Paula,
leading to more sad conversation. Carlos took a white rose from one
of the bouquets, which made Ricardo angry. He was about to go after
him when Alonso stopped him, saying that nothing good would come of
this. Alonso told him they needed to find out who did this. He told
him that Alejandra had continued investigating despite what she had
told them. She hadn't told them because they would have tried to
stop her. She had found the place where Jaime had been held. No,
they didn't yet know whether the kidnappers had shot Alejandra but
they would help him.
To
the best of her ability Victoria calmed down sufficiently to talk
about the arrest the next day as Adrián escorted her to her room.
He told her to call him if she needed him. She told him she was
accustomed to doing things alone and would be alright. She went into
her room. As soon as she closed the door behind her she sank to the
floor and cried silently. Adrián stopped himself from knocking and
went to his room.
Alonso
and Ricardo continued talking. They did not know whether Alejandra
knew who had kidnapped her father. Alonso told him he had to have
the intelligence and will to carry on. They probably didn't notice
Carlos standing by the coffin or something ugly would have happened,
as neither Alonso nor Ricardo thought he had any right to be there.
Victoria
was sitting at her desk, trying to write. She stopped and cried.
She had not undressed yet for bed. Neither had Adrián, who knocked
on her door. He gave her a bag of candy, which his mother used to do
when he was a child and became sad. She thanked him and a few
sentences later closed the door. She went back to the chair and
leaned against its back.
Carlos
stood over Alejandra's coffin and thought of their boda
interrumpa. He whispered “It's all my fault. If I hadn't
boinked Patricia that accursed night you would have become my wife.
And believe me none of this would have happened. Ale, remember how
we wanted to work together? It was youru dream. We would have had
our house and made a beautiful family. I lost it all, my love. You
know the the one who loved you most and always will is me, my love.
I love you.” He turned to see Paula and Jaime, to whom he said
“She was the love of my life.” Paula acknowledge him without
looking him in the eye and Jaime embraced him briefly with the same
attitude. Carlos then had the grace to leave.
Javier
took his leave. Ricardo and Alonso talked about the upcoming
investigation. Ricardo wanted to provoke the killers out into the
open but Alonso told him he could not take this risk. They finally
left.
The
next morning Victoria and Adrián met in the lobby. He handed her a
cup of coffee and told her that the cab was waiting for them. She
said she was ready. “Nobody makes a fool of me or of the law.”
Alejandra's
coffin was lowered into the ground. The priest sprinkled holy water
over it. Ricardo knelt by the grave and threw in the first handful
of earth. Carlos knelt at the other end. Fortunately there were no
fisticuffs.
Victoria
and Adrián went to Judge Smith's office. He gave them the necessary
documents and said that Captain Murdoch was outside with his men
waiting for them. He told Victoria to make sure of a positive ID and
she told him not to worry. He went to get one more document. In his
absence Victoria told Adrián she couldn't stop thinking of Alejandra
all night and how she would have handled this case. “She was the
best.”
The
grave was fully covered and everyone placed white bouquets on it.
Ricardo did not have to stand alone; Roberto and Gustavo stood by him
to encourage him to find the strength to go on for her sake. Carlos
stood alone behind one of the hedges.
Captain
Murdoch looked at the address and said “This isn't far from here.”
He went to “take care of a few things” before getting started.
Nancy
sashayed in her hooker-pink suit toward the police station and
flirted with a young cop. He flirted back and she asked him to help
her. “What do you know about El Gringo?” she asked. He stopped
in his tracks and told her he was very dangerous and it would be
better for her not to get involved.
Gustavo
and Roberto escorted Ricardo back home and said to call if he needed
them. After they left Ricardo picked up a framed photo of Alejandra
and remembered her saying she would love to live with him. That went
directly to the memory of disconnecting her from life support.
Victoria
and Adrián rang Megan's doorbell. She answered and Victoria asked
for Andres. She called him, saying “Baby! Baby”, whose meaning
was not lost on either Victoria or Adrián. He came to the door and
Victoria said, “Hello, Andres” with a satisfied smile. “There
is a delegation waiting for you.” He paled at the sight of a half
dozen police.

Wow, didn't know Azela Robinson & Roberto Ballesteros were once married.
I'm concerned that with Alejandra no longer around to protect Paula, Alicia & her scumbag husband will scam Paula again.
I don't think Sofia will go directly after Ricardo yet. I think Sofia & Ricardo will start off as friends. Elena will slither back on the scene now that Alejandra is no longer around.

Anon207, I was thinking the same thing. I don't think anyone else knows about the scam and Paula is not at her most alert right now. I doubt she told Jaime about this.

On Sofia: I still need to know more about her background before I can embrace her as the new Leading Protagonista.

Thanks so much UA. This was a hard episode to watch. You have had to recap the previous one and now this. Very heavy. It's especially hard to watch a coffin being lowered into the ground and people tossing that first handful of dirt on it. So painful.
Loved your "Carlos darkened the door...". Yes indeed, darkness seems to follow Carlos wherever he goes. However I did believe he had a right to be at the velorio. Selfish as he was and is, he loved Alejandra (in his own narcissistic way) and grieved her just as Ricardo did. No matter how unlikable a person is, they still grieve, they still hurt. Reminds me of that great Shylock quote from Shakespeare.
Actually I was a bit relieved to see the marvelously skanky Nancy in her hot pink pants suit coming on to the police officer. She's a total hussy, but she doesn't hide it; she uses it. Effectively. Fun to watch and a welcome break from the grief and loss portrayed at Alejandra's funeral.
Thanks for being a brave soldier and a marvelous recapper, bringing us these resumens of very sad episodes indeed. May you wear you opera crown proudly!

Elena will stay in Canada until the danger to herself is gone.
Paula might end up losing all her money before anyone else figures out what happened. Even Lourdes doesn't know anything about this. The one save might be if Alejandra had any papers about it in her desk drawer.
I sure as hell don't want to see Ricardo with anyone until he has had enough time to grieve.

As for a potential Ric/Sofia pairing, I’m still not sure about that. I almost wanna see the writers delve into Javier’s personal life and get more insight into why he’s a “I prefer to work alone” person. Since he and Sofia have had to work together maybe something will happen. That’s just a theory.
I’m glad Victoria stayed to see her case through. In process of bringing Andres to justice, she might also be helping Megan dodge a major bullet.

I don't think Alan is happy that Alejandra is dead. I don't think he cares. As far as he's concerned, Alejandra had moved with Ricardo and there was no sense in carrying on after a woman that showed zero interest in wanting to be with Carlos. Carlos is putting the future of the firm, their money, time and personal safety in jeopardy over Alejandra, who did not want to be with Carlos again and only had pity in her heart for Carlos.
Of course, none of this would be happening if Alan, Carlos or one of the party goers hadn't killed Patricia the hooker.

I have not been on the forum so forgive me if this was addressed or discussed already but i could not have been more shocked to see a protagonist knocked off way before the ending!!! Did something happen in her real life that she had to stop filming and they needed to end her character?? It seemed so strange to me- first time i remember seeing something like this in my MANY years of following TNs.
Or was it because they needed to make Ricardo’s revenge of Carlos such a major theme that they needed a HUGE cause for it???

In short, Ana Brenda Contreras has been a major character on the American series, "Dynasty" (the sequel, I presume). The series was renewed for a 3d season. It could be that ABC's character will have more prominence and she just couldn't do both. We were all shocked.
If it hadn't been renewed, though, the writers would have had to re-write all the rest of her scenes and put her back in them. Taking her out was probably quite a headache as it was. Who knows. Maybe ABC already told them before the 2d season that renewal or not, she wasn't going to stay with PASL until the end.

Wow!!! I had no idea. Thank you so much for that info. I never watched Dynasty ( though a big fan of Dallas way back when) and i understand the enormity of that offer for her. I guess she must be totally bilingual. I did not know that. OK, well that is explains it perfectly.
I assume that neither Univision nor ABC was fully aware of how things would play out. STILL, it is so disruptive and uncomfortable to have a protagonist die in the middle! Dont like it one bit!!! Also not thst crazy about Sofia— she talks too fast and, hough very pretty, also a little boring looking to me!!!

ABC actually speaks a lot of Spanish with some of her colleagues on Dynasty. She isn’t really fluent in English, from what I witnessed. But she IS credible.

Well, to add a little. It’s no different from someone leaving a show (English or Spanish) and the substitute appears in place of the original with no explanation. Eventually we hear why the original left. Did you watch Cuando me Enamoro? Renata’s best friend, Adriana was replaced in mid-stream, due to an accident to Wendy Gonzalez. Florencia (Natalia in Amor Bravío) took over with no announcement ahead of time—like it happens often in English —today so-and-so’s part is being played by Smith.
I wondered why they didn't simply recast the part, but then again, this isn't a novela in the usual sense.
I remember back in the day when Edith Gonzales became pregnant and there was no plans to make her character pregnant in Mujer de Madera they cast Ana Patricia Rojo to replace her. Later reviews mostly said that she didn't live up to EG's performance, which I can certainly believe. Back when Jorge Salinas became ill during LQNPA they thought about recasting the role but that would have been a huge mistake. Sebastian Rulli might have done well in that role had he started, but who could compare to Jorge Salinas?

As I recall, before PASL2 was filmed we already knew Ana Brenda's part was being downsized. But we didn't expect her to be killed off...
I remember that discussion. I suspect we will see less and less of Paula once her current problem is solved.
