Me Declaro Culpable #24, 3/20/20: Where Were You When The Lights Went Out?
Aqua House of Hell
Gabe is back in the Snake Pit of Tia Ingrid's house but he has a plan. He'll encourage her to set a place for Papi Javier at the table. After all "he's always with her, so why not include him at dinner." She's all chuffed and happy that he understands. But alas, the little whelp goes a mite too far, and suggests she talk out loud to her brother. Ingrid smells a rat, makes him stand up and sure enough, the recording phone on his lap falls to the floor. She's on it like a panther. With hands of steel evidently, she destroys the phone-- literally rips it apart in seconds. Amazing.
Jeez, I wish I had her around when I'm struggling to open jars!
Urzúa Mansion
Franco and his overly affectionate daughter Natalia have another sweet moment together. She's fixed a tasty cup of coffee. He drinks it. They decide to share it. They love each other sooooo much.
Somewhere, Honestly I don't remember where
Roberta gets a phone call from the inexplicably persistent Tiziano. She continues to be rude and dismissive. He continues to plead for a rendezvous, or at least a dinner together to recall old times. Why Tiziano, why? You're overrun with nubile, willing babes. Why continue to pursue a menopausal lunatic?
We've got two "loca de remate" women in this show; clearly we also have a delusional man. But as Urban Anthropologist noted, he's rather fetching (her "manscape" comment). So what the heck, let's keep Tiziano around for a while!
Paolo's luxurious apartment
Julián, taking on the good guy role (fooling no one but Paolo) has brought back his stolen wheelchair. How did he get it back? Oh, he has contacts in the underworld. Y'know, -- all his dealings with lowlife culprits. The task of a mere dogsbody in the law firm. But darned glad he can be of service to Paolo. Let's let bygones be bygones. Y'know the whole Natalia thing. And come back to work anytime you're ready.
The Neighborhood, the City as a whole? Who knows?
The power goes out. Franco decides this is a good time sneak out of the house to visit Alba in the Indiscreet Café. She's about to lock up. He pleads to enter. He does. There's the usual syrupy glances and the usual syrupy kisses. Then he tells her to close her eyes. He has a present for her. It's an easel and canvas. Somehow, in the midst of all this middle-aged canoodling and fatuous words of affection, she paints a picture of their First Kiss. (Gag me with a spoon.) He loves it and will put on his wall at the office.
How amazing is it that she got it painted, and the paint dried--that fast! Wow. Is this Magical Realism? Or did I miss something?
Does it matter? Absolutely not. That painting on his office wall is not going to go over well, however.
Franco leaves. Finally! Then comes back to insist that Alba let him remain her lawyer. Leaves again. Comes back for some more kisses. (Or perhaps it was the reverse. Anyway, for a while I thought that saccharine scene was never going to end.) Each time he also (like a nagging, anxious mom) insisted she lock up carefully. She locks up. Leans against the door. And blissfully smiles.
Okay. The fat's in the fire. No more resistance. She's in love and over the moon about it. He is too of course. Gosh, can't wait for the next Major Impediment to their Destined, but Threatened Amor.
Paolo's luxurious apartment on which he mysteriously manages to pay exorbitant rent
Just like Franco and Alba, Paolo and Natalia are doing some seriously canoodling during the power outage. She lights some convenient candles, slips off her shoes and hops into bed to keep him company.
The power comes back on. Paolo is bummed. No problem. Natalia turns off the lights and they're back to business.
Being young folks and blissfully free, those first hot kisses lead to hotness in general and pretty soon clothes start coming off. Well, Natalia's anyway. Viewerville is hoping for a Festivus Miracle with Paolo's nether regions, but just then Always There Never Wanted Julián decides to call Nat. Paolo chooses to take the phone instead, pretending that Nat was there earlier but forgot the phone when she left. Our crafty Julián isn't fooled (the baddies never are, are they?) and decides the time is ripe to drip a little poison into listening ears.
Hey buddy, good news. We have a new lead on who was driving the car. WE THINK IT WAS A WOMAN.
Caras impactadas for both Paolo and Natalia.
And don't you just love how our Julián continues to twist the screws ever so slowly but relentlessly!? A villain to die for.

Forget the storyline (simply because I don't know the storyline) :)
Smiled at the usage of underused but fantastic "Chuffed" as well as "little whelp".
Enjoyed the menagerie showcased throughout including "rat" and "panther".
"Jeez, I wish I had her around when I'm struggling to open jars!" and "Gosh, can't wait for the next Major Impediment to their Destined, but Threatened Amor" were my favorites.
I don't know how you remembered so much. I can't even recall half of what you did when I take notes!
And finally "Viewerville is hoping for a Festivus Miracle". Yes, in fantasy and in reality.
Superb Judy. Gracias amiga.
Diana
How about that extremely weird interlude during which Franco was sweet-talking his daughter with his mouth full of her hair? I'm starting to wonder if Irina Baeva is staging some of these snafus out of pure boredom.
"Why Tiziano, why? You're overrun with nubile, willing babes. Why continue to pursue a menopausal lunatic?"
I really wonder about Tiziano's sanity. It isn't that Roberta isn't still attractive, but how does he not recognize that she is BSC?
Gabriel needs a little instruction on spy work. Too bad Gael isn't a little more careful with his own because this boy needs some adult male influence.
Natalia needs to tell her dad last week about the accident.
Completely agree about Julian. He is beyond despicable.
Haven't read anything yet, company calling. Will do so later.
Victoria--Did you really mean Alejandro Bones? It certainly suits him. I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing. Glad you brought him back to mind from Amar a Muerte. We ought to entertain ourselves with a list of our favorite baddies and which tn they were in.
José Elías Moreno was also Luzma's despicable uncle, Leoncio in Amor Bravio. Actually there were 4 pretty vile characters in that, in addition to Leoncio.
DIANA...Ah, my friend. Always the first with words of cheer and appreciation. I always feel "carefully and thoughtfully read" when you post your comments. In fact, I am invariably "chuffed" when reading your reactions.
BLUE LASS...And the Naughty-Go-Straight-to-Time Out Award goes to you today, wicked lady. As in:
(No Paolo jokes, honest...but it's HARD. Whoops!)
That was my first really good laugh of the day. Knew I could count on you, kid.
SUSANLYNN...Thanks amiga. I can feel all those warm and wonderful vibes((((((()))))) heading West. And good thing too because it's another cold, gray day here. Isn't CarayCaray amazing though? All the dear friends we would never have met were it not for this site. I will treasure the love, prayers and good vibes and they will help me get through the next week or two.
URBAN ANTHROPOLOGIST...I know I've told you this before, but I love your moniker. When I call you just URBAN, it makes me think of our former football coach, which is sooo wrong. But great name and always a thoughtful analysis of the episode. True--Roberta is still attractive. But most men I know are more than willing to upgrade to younger women if the choice is there. Tiziano clearly has some unfinished business with his former novia. Or maybe the BSC part is what attracts him--like Alejo with Brenda in Ringo.
ANITA...Enjoy your company to the max m'dear. And I hope that the yard work all got done during their visit. (Not that the yardwork ever gets done. Just like housework, it keeps on renewing itself.)
Thanks for mentioning José Elías Moreno in response to Victoria's comment. He's played the most despicable villains imaginable. But I've also seen him play lovable, kindly teddy bears and old souls. He's just as believable in those roles as he is playing absolute monsters. Quite a talent.
You did this recap from memory? Do you double up on Ginkgo Biloba? Lots of funnies, too, like Julian fools nobody, except Paolo, Magical Realism (indeed!), Indiscreet Cafe, Major Impediment to their Destined, but Threatened Amor, and my favorite: Festivus Miracle!
The actor who plays Julian really is a good actor. He looks handsome when he's pretending he's a nice guy, but then can look so unattractive with his malevolence. We all know Berti is off her rocker, but even if she doesn't want her daughter with someone in a wheelchair, why would she try to push Natalia back towards Julian, knowing what a scuzzbucket he is?
Speaking of scuzzbuckets, Leoncio was just the worst for me. That was troubling then, and it still bothers me now. I see that actress who played Luzme from time to time on La Rosa de Guadalupe and she always seems to play a pregnant teen.
Coincidence... Urban is also our ex-coach. Go Utes!
Please, Judy, take care! The Caray community is very fond of you.
Nice insight on Julián--or rather the actor playing him. He can go from handsome to ugly just by the emotions he's projecting. Quite a skill. Reminds me of a great Dorothy Parker saying:
"Beauty is skin deep; but ugly goes clear to the bone."
We've definitely got some clear-to-the-bone uglies in this one!
And oh my, didn't our Urban get around! And now he's in a natty suit and tie dishing out sports talk. That is, if we ever have any games to talk about again....
OT...sunny and chilly all day here. Took several walks and started cleaning out the flower beds. I am happy to report that my daffodils and hyacinths are pushing up ready to bloom....now if they can just survive the wintry mix predicted here in the near future.
And glad to know your daffodils and hyacinths are pushing up ready to bloom. I have some sweet little crocuses peeking out and hope the forsythia doesn't get turned to brass by the unpredictable cold weather. I hate it when their lovely golden color darkens because of freezing.
Always reassuring to see that Mother Nature just keeps on going, regardless of what whatever drama might be happening in human life.
Pouring gasoline, kerosene and a very
Dangerous Molotov cocktail on the flames of berti's temper? And Now he's
Gonna hang that giant kiss painting up
On the wall at the office for everyone
To see? Including daddy nosehairs and
Berti when she comes to the office to
Declare her sick idea of undying love
To him. Psycho? Much?
Well everything else crazy so why not
This. Apparently franco's love for Als
Is Makin him stupid. Too.
I saw that scene with Paolo and nat in
The sack, I don't think his little soldier had a problem saluting. And why arent his clothes off? And hers are?
Did I see a scene where Julian was a crying? Why was he cryin. What Is he feeling guilty about?
Gabe should leave the secret agent stuff to James bond. Don't he know how to hide a phone in his pocket? Silly child. Now we missed seeing deaddaddy
Eat tacos.
Hey maybe berti can get tizzy to knock
Her up. Or not.
Thanks JudyB, hope you feel better. And Thanks for a fun read. Keep it clean and safe patio.
Love the Dorothy Parker saying, and it is so true.
Um... is Dr. Carlos no longer with us?
I miss him like crazy. He could really make me laugh. But also was a wonderful email friend when you just needed “tea and sympathy “ And if you didn’t, one could always talk Baylor basketball. In short, a wonderful, unforgettable friend.
I loved Carlos screen-shots, he was a true master of words, too. I knew that he was no longer with us, but didn't have the exact details. I bet he would have had a lot to say about Bertie and Ingrid :)
Nice to see that Paolo rose to the occasion - must be all the true love and the sneaking around that did the trick.
I still find Bertie the most entertaining character in this. She should definitely forget about bland Franco and run into the sunset with Tiziano, who is too hot for words. For those of you who have the time, try to check out Vivir a Destiempo, a Azteca novela, where Raliro Fumazoni played the lead (opposite Edith Gonzales), that's where I fell in love with him - and the novela wasn't that bad, either.
I remember having a hard time watching Jose Elias Moreno in Quiero Amarte, where he played the lovable patriarch of the family, after watching his Leoncio in Amor Bravio. He is truly a great actor, not many can compare to him.
Stay safe, guys! Things are crazy right now in the world and it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
Adriana Noel
NINA....Loved this-- Why is Franco n alba
Pouring gasoline, kerosene and a very
Dangerous Molotov cocktail on the flames of berti's temper?
Good question kid, but I think the writers are cooking up another explosion for us. Franco and Alba are just the drippiest couple I think I've ever seen. But they're in love hot and heavy, and our Roberta is NOT going to be happy with that.
And I've noticed many of you have affectionate nicknames for our Borderline Roberta--so from now on she'll be Borderline Bertie or Bi-polar Bertie. Actually I think "borderline" is a better explanation for her unpredictable personality but the telenovela writers use bi-polar a lot.
ROSEMARY AND SUSANLYNN...Yes indeed, Carlos was respectful of women and very kind to them. Perhaps because he had a great mom that he was very close to, growing up. His dad, not so much. Although his father was a pharmacist so Carlos clearly got his scientific mind from the paternal side. And yes, he loved to defend "the bad girls" and get newcomers to the site absolutely enraged, before they finally realized that he was just teasing. And strangely enough, most of the time he was right and the baddie repented and became a sweet goodie by story's end.
ADRIANA...Sometimes having to write a recap, or do some other task that requires all your concentration, is actually a blessing. For a brief moment in time you stop thinking about "me me me" and switch to "this this this". Years ago when I was recapping an evening show, I remember coming home from an evening memorial service for a good friend to then sit down, watch a silly show, and write a recap. It actually was a brief but welcome respite from the sadness.
I love your suggestion of Bertie dropping " bland Franco" (perfect description) and running off with Tiziano. Granted, one of them would probably kill the other in short order, but still. I DO find it hard to believe that an obviously virile specimen like Tiziano would put up with Bertie's ill treatment one micro second. But that's how the plot's going, so we'll ride along on it. Actually I could see him proposing a threesome with the combustible Ingrid. But I don't think an afternoon show will take that route.
Stay safe everybody. Wash your hands. Not touching your face is simply impossible, so the hand-washing is key. Alas, my husband, who's still out and about a lot, always forgets to wash his hands when he comes home. So hoping I've got the luck of the Irish when it comes to this virus.
Tiziano...wow... telenovelas are introducing me to names thatch had never heard before. I remember this actor from "Three Faces" He reminds me a little of silver Fox Arturo from Ruby.
Judyb...it is a puzzle as to why Tiz is interested in BSC Rob when he seemed to be surrounded by young beauties. Maybe he is bored and needs a bit OF drama and knows Rob can bring the crazy drama. Who knows .
It is a sunny, chilly day here. I just get myself outside for a walk. Stay well.
Sexy Tiz must have blown through his money and is now hoping to share Borderline's with her.
ROSEMARY...Reactions to grief are so varied. When my wonderful, caring Dad died, the only thing that helped me was to drive down to the river and watch the light reflecting off the slow, languid waves. I didn't want to go to lunch with anybody (many kind offers), didn't want to talk to a counselor, just wanted to be quiet and watch the river gently ripple.
But I remember one commenter who had lost a partner, the other who had lost a daughter, and both found consolation and distraction in telenovelas. Whatever works, thank goodness we have these resources to help us navigate grief and loss. It's hard enough as it is.
SUSANLYNN... Sitting with old photos, letters and journals sounds like a very good path. You get to revisit all those blessings and periods of happiness--and relive them. I love looking back at pictures of my kids from long ago. Thinking, or "ruminating" can sometimes lead us down rabbit holes of depression. I like your "keep busy" approach. And besides, there's only so much TV one can stand to watch. And only so many books one can re-read (the libraries are closed now.
Blue, glad to hear Nephew's Wife is on the mend and crawling to get her own water. I won't be joining you for the new comedy, even though our darling Chema (with the eyelashes from Cuando) is in it. I also noticed it is directed by Carlos Cock Marin. I don't know who that is, but his name sounds like something we can call Paolo now that his Festivus amuses the restovus.
Thank you, RgvChick, Judy, and Blue Lass for your recaps so that I knew when I could FFWD-> thru some scenes, especially the Soggy Paolo (we had "Soggy Paula" in Amores Verdaderes) scenes.
There was a convo between Bertie and Natalia where they were sitting on a silver/grey crushed velvet sofa. Ack. That brought on 1970s flashbacks. :-o Haven't seen that stuff in decades.
Blue - glad to hear your nephew's wife is on the mend. It's a nasty virus, heads right for the lungs. She is lucky.
Susanlynn - (((Hugs))) Be gentle with yourself.
COMO TU NO HAY DOS --- I looked that up on Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Como_t%C3%BA_no_hay_2
"On 10 January 2020, People en Español confirmed that the series is a new adaptation of the Chilean telenovela Amores de mercado, whose most recent version was ¿Quién es quién? produced in 2015"
I watched Quien es Quien on Telemundo a few years ago, recaps are here somewhere on Caray. It was fun because I like Eugenio Siller. I'll probably give this one a try, too, because I can always use a laugh, these days.
- The lead protagonista is played by Claudia Martin, formerly d/b/a Marina in SIN TU MIRADA.
Judy B., I'm distressed to think of you having some distressing medical news. Prayers and positive vibes for you to overcome whatever it is.
Susanlynn, I still think of you and your struggles from losing your husband. Such great sorrow comes from a great and enduring love.
I appreciate the warm spirit and willingness to laugh that lives on this patio/site. I'm trying to put more structure in my life right now to better cope with current events. Maybe I'll be able to watch all the time and not just once in a while.
And I agree about the need for structure. I try to keep getting up at 6 am because that's what I did when I was working. And I fix my hair and put on make-up like I'm still going out to work. I make the bed and get dressed first thing, even though I'm not leaving the house and nobody's coming to visit.
After that, it's balancing the necessary chores, keeping up with the cleaning and cooking, but also indulging in some much needed distraction. Reading is difficult with the infection in my eyelid which is very slow to heal, but I do a little of that and a little TV.
The rest of the time I just really miss our cat who was the best nurse ever. I once gave a talk on hospital visitation using her as the very best medical visitor possible. She always "knocked" when she came in the sickroom--She would pause at the open door, give a little meow, and if you invited her in, then she would hop up on the bed beside you, settle in and just give comforting purrs for as long as you wanted.
No false cheer or brisk dismissive chat, only warm, caring presence.
Why is it that animals often seem so much wiser than we humans?
Wishing you all someone or something quietly, wisely caring to get you through the coming weeks and months.
This morning I found a letter that I have been searching for that Hub wrote me when he was 17 and I was vacationing at the NJ shore with my
Parents. Wow..he really did love me and miss me . Reading it is so odd..he was missing me back then as much as I am missing him now. We really were young and in love. I think I was supposed to find it today as I continue this house arrest and it is raining and gray out. Almost among us letters were lost when we were burglarized right after our older daughter was born . I wish I had them.
To all of us--We are all living in such unsettled times. I'm so glad we have this little community to keep us together, sharing losses and gains. Animo Amigos, this too shall pass.....
JudyB--Today is Monday and since I'll be doing the recap, go clean your bathroom!!!
No one mentioned the SNIFF that took place after Franco and Alba finally parted. She went back to her room picked up a black painter's coat, held it up to her face and took a few whiffs. Ok, par for the course. Franco went off with that HORRID painting that she whipped up between sweet nothings they exchanged for hours in a closed restaurant and Alba had only the sweet memory and a sniff. Only I thought Franco was wearing a blue coat and Alba was wearing the black one. Was she by some error sniffing her own coat? That's one mystery that won't be solved. OK, fans, see you all later.
And this is what we need, espscially
Now. So we should stay hand washed and
Sanitized.
((((((((((Big Hugs)))))))))) to all of you.
