Imperio de Mentiras #7, 9/29/20: Guess Who's Coming to Dinner or Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot?

Dario shows a misbehaving Elisa what's behind Door #1 and Door #2 if she continues to disobey him.  The first video scares Elisa out of her wits as she sees a mockup of Maria Jose on the video crying hysterically with a gun to her head complete with the gun going off.  Dario describes in wretched detail how the whole family will blame her and how it will be her fault if, in addition to losing Papi, she must bear Majo's death on her conscience.  Elisa becomes hysterical until Dario Demento shows her the second video of her sister and threatens again to kill kid sister if Elisa goes off the reservation again.  (Torture and abuse in my book!)  "--No more little games!"   Elisa agrees to be obedient and do what he asks provided once those darned art pieces are found and returned, her sister is returned to her in one piece, and he never darkens their door again.  (What?  Elisa must really be trippin' to think she's got that kind of leverage with Scario de Dario (thanks to patio peep, Susanlynn for the perfect moniker).

Dario wants the truth about any supposed boyfriend of hers since her family has never heard about him.  Elisa names him on the fly as Leonardo Marquez and says the family is simply not in the know.  He's from Nueva Yorrrrk and was tied up with something when her daddy died.  He reminds her that her life belongs to him now and he'll be watching every little thing she does.  Otherwise, he'll make sure Majo is tortured mercilessly before he finally kills her.

On the other side of town, Nieves has arrived at Leo's to chat with Mama Velasco. She tries laying one mell of a hell of a guilt trip on Leonardo’s strong shoulders, complaining to him about his hanging around with another woman only 7 days after the death of his fiancée, her daughter.  However, he's not having any and he masterfully sidesteps her pile of shame-poo by explaining that she was the mother of his child and that he and Elisa are together to get at the truth.  Hopefully, they will all then have a modicum of peace.  Nieves hisses back that it better be and warns neither of them to approach her or her family again!  (Seriously, the dude doesn't know how lucky he was sidestepping having her as his mother-in-law.)

At the same time, Silvia Spy-hooker (wife and mostly insignificant other) is being beaten up by hubby, Tio Eugenio for trying the same stupid gymnasium trick on him twice.  (What do they say about handling Labradors?)  She's getting it where it cannot be seen--in the gut mostly.  "--Be happy I didn't cuff ya one in the face!"

Meanwhile, Marcelo and Ren are discussing the pile o' pesos Ren will have tomorrow after selling off her shares in Grupo Cantu.  Ren becomes affectionate and talks about buying their own lovely apartment.  Victoria suddenly barges into their bedroom (Oof!  Talk about bad form, Vicki!).  She and Ren need to talk about her selling her company stock to Geño.  When Ren refuses to obey her mama's orders not to sell out, Vicki threatens to put her into an asylum for evaluation.  (Wow, and this only happened now in her 38th year?)  Ren tearfully gives in as mama retreats to her lair.  When Marc comes down to confront Vicki about her treatment of Ren just now, Vicki asks just who has been putting all these ideas in her head, hmm?  Marco plays the "who me?" card.  He accuses her of upsetting Ren so badly that she'll become extremely depressed and could commit (the active word here) some sort of crazy act.  "--Yes, and I make you responsible for it.  You have only one role in this family and that is to keep Renata under control.  Now go back up there and don't let her out of her room till she's calmed down."

Elisa goes back inside the manse and makes a quick, frantic call to Leo to tell him what just happened, how the thieves followed her and saw the two of them when she got out of the car.  He asks what excuse she gave, and she tells him: she said Leo was her novio, an N.Y.C. entrepreneur, there to visit her due to the death of her father.  He tells her that they will keep up the ruse and his partners will help him carry out the deceit by setting up the perfect profile.  Nobody will know the truth.  All she must do is have faith in him and his team to pull it off and rescue her sister.  She agrees.  "--Who else can I trust?  There is nobody else."

Back at Dario's den of thieves, a couple of the goons try to force Majo to eat an apple one of them just cored.  (Sheesh!  Gawd only knows where that hand has been.)

At casita de los Velasco, Mama remarks that Nieves had no right to come there and spread her venom, or trying to make Leo feel guilty about anything.  After all, he's suffering as badly as Nieves, just differently and risking his and his brother's careers just to get at the truth.

Speaking of Nieves, once home she now orders daughter Clara, to return to the job with Grupo Cantu to learn what Sra. C. and the other gal were up to.  No way she trusts them coming out of nowhere and offering to help the family as they did.

Back at los Velasco, Mama V. remarks to Leo that there may be some chemistry brewing between him and Elisa.  Life goes on and he shouldn't miss out on the bits of happiness afforded him.  Besides, she has noticed the looks that pass between them.

Marco enters the bedroom and tries cheering up Renata.  They will simply have to change their approach is all, he says.  She can demonstrate to everyone how mature and independent and worthy she can be.  Tonight there's a dinner to meet Elisa's new novio.  Ren immediately gets a bright, childlike smile on her face.  Yes, of course, and she'll wear the dress she wore the night she and Marc met.  (I'm sure that one was just as fetching as the one for Elisa's birthday bash, but we won't hold our breath.)

Meanwhile, Fernanda reviews the bank statements showing deposits made to her account.  She remembers the excuse she gave about being in debt and behind on her house payments.  Vicki comes in and chats her up about Clara.  Fern mentions how Ren yelled and screamed hideous accusations at the girl and then came back after as if it were nothing, wishing her well.  She doesn't think Clara will come back after that nasty experience.

Mama V sees her granddaughter, Leslie, jump on the back of some boy's motorcycle.  She enters the house and asks her daughter-in-law, Theresa, where Leslie went.  "--Over to a girlfriend's house."  Mama knows her granddaughter lied to her mother but doesn't say much other than it's good to know where the children are and who they hang around with.  Theresa smarts back with something like, “-If you don't like when I say something about Leo, then best leave my daughter alone.”  Mama V. takes the hint and leaves the room.  (Makes me sort of wonder what or who did JL fell in love with 15 years before.)

Later in the day, Vicki drops in on Clara and Nieves to make amends for Renata's rudeness the day before.  Nieves reams out Vicki despite Vicki's good-will gesture. (Slightly tone-deaf are we, Nieves?)  Vicki smoothly apologizes and promises it won't happen again. She asks Clara to return to the company and become her personal assistant.  She has even brought some new clothes for Clara to look the proper part for the job.  Clara must agree with Mama’s sudden turnaround, that it's a great opportunity.  Nieves looks over at Vicki, not missing any opportunity for gain.  "--And it's going to probably pay very well, right????"

At Olivia's now, Leo receives his false identity papers.  Guy cop comes out with a suit in hand for Leo.  They tease him about rehearsing so he's not scared tonight when he has to kiss Elisa again.....(iAy, Chihuahua!!)  Leo takes the suit and gets ready.

Elisa reads more mushy stuff about Leo in Julia's diary.  FF>>FF>>

Mama V asks Terry where Leslie is this late at night.  Terry, in between sucking up large portions of food, mentions Leslie called to say she was staying later to join her friend's family for supper.  "--Or does that bother you as well?"  Mama says it's just that she's really too young to be wandering around the streets this late at night.  Terry gripes that Mama really knows how to wreck someone’s meal and leaves for her room, the large tray of food in hand.

At the thief-den, Dario asks half-naked Majo why she still won't eat. (Anybody else wondering where the girl’s pants are?  I don't remember the rapist ripping those off her.  I mean Dario should at least have gotten her a cheap pair of sweats from somewhere or offered a pair of his own.)  She tells him she's got an upset stomach.  He loses it and throws the plate of food down in a fit of rage.  "--You think you feel bad!  You think I like having to put up with this every day??"  He turns to go and then thinks better of it.  "--Ok.  Really, now.  What would you prefer to eat?" (What were they trying to feed her there, anyway?  Tripe soup?) "--Sushi??"  Ok, he agrees to bring her sushi and they will eat together.

Leo arrives outside casota de los Cantu dressed up in his finest.  Elisa tells him how handsome he looks.  Leo returns the compliment.  They rehearse their story and get ready to go in to do the meet and greet.

Across town, JL arrives at Fern's to ask a few more questions.  There were more than a few inconsistencies in her statement, he explains.  It seems that the apartment isn't in her name and the real owner has no intention of selling it.  Ruh-Roh!  This cop does his homework.  She can talk to JL there or she can come down to the station and answer his questions.  "--Do I need a lawyer?"  Yup, he says, if she is hiding anything, yes.  "--You want to call him?"

On the way inside the manse, Leo reminds Elisa that lovers hold hands, and by the way, he wasn't lying when he said she looks truly beautiful!  She wasn't either, she replies, and after exchanging compliments they head for the door and the living room.

Inside a few minutes later, everyone is introducing themselves when Marc and Ren (wearing another hideous "Ren-dition" of a would-be but not-quite designer dress) appear and Viewerville races to adjust the brightness and color contrast on all tv sets.  Victoria is momentarily stunned.  Ren presents a very charming figure, dress aside.  Introductions made, the group retires to the dining room.

Across town, at the same time, Dario tunes it down a few notches and walks a still pantless Marjo up to the rooftop for a classy little snack under the stars.  He puts his jacket on her. (I would have still added a pair of sweat pants or a rolled-up pair of chinos.)

At the station, JL tells Fern to cut the crap; it isn't working.  He ignores her request for a lawyer.  He counters with the possibility of questioning her BFF, Elisa, to ask her if she can think of a reason her daddy would be putting large sums of cash monthly into Fern's personal account.  "--And being lovers with a friend's papi is a crime?"  No, he answers but lying when giving a statement is.  She says she was just frightened to say anything for fear she'd be fired.  JL says, "bunk!"  Not only was she aware of Cantu's criminal activity but he's also pegged her as Cantu’s willing accomplice in the theft of those prehispanic artworks that were recently stolen.

After din-din, Dario and Majo lay down on the rooftop to look up at the stars.  He names them for her: he and his mom used to pick them out of the sky cuz it was the cheapest of games for a poor kid from the barrio.

At the dining table, Leo and Elisa answer numerous questions.  Afterward, Leo shmoozes Ren, telling her how much Elisa brags about her two sisters.  She even told him about the swimming medal Ren won years ago.  Ren is super impressed and gives Elisa a big hug then runs off teary-eyed.  Leo then makes sure to kiss Elisa in front of the others, just to make things--ahem-- more credible.

Geño quietly advises Vicki to be careful about this new boyfriend.  He's going to put out feelers and see what he can find on the guy.  Could be he's only a fortune hunter.

Leslie finally arrives home.  Her abuela is up and wants a chat with her.  She says she knows who Leslie really was with since she saw her go with the kid on the bike.  She wants to know what she's really gotten herself mixed up in, also.

At the thief den later that evening, El Commandante is there chatting it up with Dario.  (Dun-dun-dunnn!)  Dario shows him a snapshot of Leo and wants to know who he is.  El C. tells Dario exactly who he is, what he does, and who his big brother is.  Ruh-Roh-h-h-h!!

Outside the manse, Sylvia is having a smoke when Leo walks over to her to chat.  Sylvia tells him she knows this is a lot of BS.  He's not any Leonardo Marcus, businessman and attorney from the U.S.  No, he's Leonardo Velasco, undercover cop, and she remembers him from high school. (Double Ruh-rohhh!)   “--So now, what do we do?  Will you tell them, or should I????”

Jardinera, what a treat. Thank You

If I wanted to see stupid people I'd just ride around and find some political signs. OK so Scario showed E her lil sis being shot. (supposedly) So now he has no further control over her, start screaming for a cop. Run to any bystander ...scream, go to the police. Nopis. stand in the middle of Ciudad de Mex and have a screaming match as all of Mexico City completely ignores them. Well at least he told her the truth in a minute.

Leo: “Now you HAVE to call the police!” E: “ No No no no I got this, no police.”
OK, how's that working for you Bad Hair?

And poor Leo has both his ex future ex MIL Nueva or something and his manish Mama mad at him for something he is only pretending to do. Being Fake BF

Does anybody else find it almost as creepy as Tio Rug seeing Elisa devouring dead Julia's journal about Leo? Yikes, I am waiting for Death Chick to peep around the corner. They kinda already know each other, right?

At last Leo and E are making at least a half hearted effort at looking the parts. Hopeofully Leo's previous work undercover will benefit him fooling Vic and Rug et al. Undercover work should require the absolute best acting on earth, if your character is not believable you might wind up dead.

How romantic, Mojo is wearing Scario's shirt. Squeeeeee...........they are on a date. Kinda...sort of.

Fidel Castro's ghost AKA JL has his hands full trying to squeeze a molecule of truth out of Little Lying Liar Fernanda. She lives in a pretty swank place and it looked like she was driving a Lexu$.

Oh crap, ReNutty came into heat right in the middle of dinner sitting by Leo. Them horny bipolar chicks..............

Oh Mojo and Scario are holding hands. Shoot he needs some cozy cuffs. Hello Elisa? It's Mojo, guess what? I'm not dead, and I'm getting married.

Drats, Tramp Stamp back tattoo Sonic the hedgehog made Leo. Rat her out about Mop so Rug kills her. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeasy. Rug already declared her disposable.

More tomorrow patio.

Fantastic Jardinera, from start to finish.

First, thank you for "Ren-dition" and so many other excellent lines.

“Dario asks half-naked Majo why she still won't eat. (Anybody else wondering where the girl’s pants are?” My hand is raised and waving wildly. I thought it was just me as I saw no errant piece of fabric peeking below her jacket.

"Dario Demento" and "Scario de Dario" were both perfect - thanks to you and Susanlynn. "He reminds her that her life belongs to him now and he'll be watching every little thing she does. Otherwise, he'll make sure Majo is tortured mercilessly before he finally kills her". Silver tongued devil.

And then “…He loses it and throws the plate of food down in a fit of rage”. Lying down on a rooftop, star gazing and explaining would have been romantic with other players. Yet, I note with a huge frown that Majo seemed somewhat smitten. So Kirby, I'm hoping Dario has more to serve up than a single serving of sushi. His "poor kid from the barrio" speech wasn't exactly a sonnet :).

Leo did well tonight primarily with "he masterfully sidesteps her pile of shame-poo". He cleaned up well and his comment to Renata was kind and earned him even more points with Elisa. Unfortunately, he did not remember Sylvia (I thought the "mostly insignificant other" was Sonia :)) which is why she seemed to be sporting a small sarcastic smile during dinner. Is it an empty threat or will she follow through? Moot point as he's been ID'd and now has far bigger problems once Tio learns the truth.

"When Ren refuses to obey her mama's orders not to sell out, Vicki threatens to put her into an asylum for evaluation...Ren tearfully gives in as mama retreats to her lair" was rather sad. Steel magnolia.

Theresa and Nieves are cold and leave me cold. I feel for Clara who seems withdrawn yet keenly aware of what is transpiring.

This aired early in my neck of the woods so missed the first few minutes.

Thank you Jardinera. This was great.

Diana

Diana: "Yet, I note with a huge frown that Majo seemed somewhat smitten." Girls like the bad boys.

He hasn't beat her up or raped her, and he took her out for Sushi. Here in FloriDuh he is a prince.

Thanks for the fun retelling of this tale, Jardinera.

I couldn’t believe Renata’s dress. It looked like something from clown town.

The fact that Silvia knew Leo from school was so unexpected that it made me laugh especially after he and Elisa had spent so much time cooking up their story and he even getting false documents.

Oh wow, thanks for this great, snappy, snarky recap, Jardinera!

I figured that Scario Dario is going to be a weird dysfunctional galán. Majo has Stockholm syndrome or she's just so scared that she's playing along. If this show is from a producer that is not known for always happy endings, Scario may not have a good ending. But I suspect that by the end of the show we'll like him more than now. And right now I think he's a total psycho. Whether he'll be "redeemed," I don't see how. But novelas are always full of surprises. If he doesn't kill anyone, he may do some time in prison and then return to be a genuine galán after. We shall see.

Uncle Rug is the worst. I am rooting for his wife and Renata's husband. Even though they're both awful. But then so is Renata.

I felt a moment of sympathy for Renata when she was touched by Leo's kind words and hugged Elisa.

What an ending for Leo, with an old high school classmate recognizing him! I didn't see that coming!

Jardinera thanks for a great recap. I read it twice, because it seemed that you picked up on several little "hints" about things that might come to pass. Also, there were so many quirky turns, I thought my head would unscrew from my neck.

For those of you who are appreciating UncleRug/Eugenio/Alejandro Camacho as the "bad/evil" character, you should see him in "Para volver a amar". OMG, I think he played one of the most despicable antagonists in that novela. Only José Elías Moreno as Alberto Lafont in "Pasión" has him beat IMHO.

You guys debated earlier about Andrés Palacios' looks—handsome/average/good looking/etc. Since I just caught up watching, I was able to evaluate his looks with your comments in mind. For me, he's not necessarily "hot" nor "bad looking". It's just that, IMO, his facial features are all oversized: eyes, nose, mouth. But, I guess, that's better than just having a big nose for example!

More later.

Thank you, Jardinera, your recap was a treat! You pick up on a lot of tiny things, you've taught me to really pay attention to little details, too.

Renata's reaction to Leo's compliment was so sad, this woman needs love, not to be screamed at and thretened with the manicomio.

So the familia meets the novio and nobody shouts "kiss, kiss, kiss!" Oh, no, we have to wait for the fake wedding to get this. Leo did go in for the kiss and Elisa didn't seem too upset.

If they want to turn Dario into a serious contender for Majo's heart, they need to show us some redeeming qualities pronto.

Leo is definitely not drop dead gorgeous, but maybe this is more realistic - a good looking guy, with an actual job (I've had it with succesful empresarios).

I was wondering how long the charade was going to last. But being discovered in the first night was a hoot. I wonder what Leo will have to do to keep Sonia quiet - she does like to "exercise a lot" at that gym of hers.

OK if Sonia remembered Leo from High School, how long has that been? Could he wriggle out by telling her 'That cop shit didn't work out' and he has been in NY for six or seven years day trading or something? Thankfully she apparently talks with Rug as little as possible. She will prob tell Mop but that selfish little turd will only use it if it benefits him.

Scario is a tough one to figure. One minute a snarling rabid dog, the next on a rooftop sushi date. He really has not physically 'DONE' anything except the kidnapping. Mostly just all mouth and waving guns around so I cannot figure what is up with him. I hopeo I'm not cutting him a bit of slack because I feel sorry for him with that HAIR.

Mojo seems to be just trying to make the best out of the messed up situation she is in. She is probably smart enough to see an opportunity when it presents itself. She is no value to them if they let her starve herself to death.

Fernanda is not being very cooperative or truthful with anyone, even herself. Do the Mexican cops not use the jumper cables plugged into house current any more as a memory assist tool? Too bad.

Kirby: The stupidity keeps coming.

Majo will probably die before too long.

Adriana: Sonia loves to "exercise a lot" eh 🤔

I don't think so Steve. I suspect Scario will protect her. I mean it may not be like a day at the spa, but without him around, it could be far worse. I am surprised he has not gotten her a TV so she can keep up with her Telenovelas.

Look at Sonia. The girl was MADE to exercise. Nuff said.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Always enjoy your breezy, no holds barred style of writing Jardinera...like this:

"On the other side of town, Nieves has arrived at Leo's to chat with Mama Velasco. She tries laying one mell of a hell of a guilt trip on Leonardo’s strong shoulders, complaining to him about his hanging around with another woman only 7 days after the death of his fiancée, her daughter. However, he's not having any and he masterfully sidesteps her pile of shame-poo by explaining that she was the mother of his child and that he and Elisa are together to get at the truth."

And indeed, I agree with you, what a gawdawful mother-in-law she would be. It's hard to find any genuinely likable characters in this one. Everyone seems flawed and compromised, but we have to root for somebody so it's going to be Leo and Elisa. And hopefully Sonia will be on the side of the angels and hold her tongue. Or just use it in other creative ways besides ratting out Leo.

Jardinera....I will be back later to comment more, but I had to thank for for another great recap that offers some respite from the real Scarios .

For the record, I have always been a fan of good guys , and I am starting to like Leo very much. His kind , gentle attitude toward Renata was heartwarming , and he loves his mama ,and she loves him. I need a kind, loving , protective character . The world needs kindness, love, and protection more than ever. Bring on the good.

When I saw Sonia grinning slyly at Leo, I thought that she was just fantasizing about him cooking for her or moving sofas. What a twist That they were classmates. Leo would definitely be a classmate you would remember..Okay , every one, let's pause for a moment and see if you can recall the best looking person in your class . Easy, right

I guess it is a moot point because Darioscario just found out who Leo is.

As for that weird date, I, too, wondered where Majo 's pants wear , but at one point, I thought I saw shorts . It is an odd storyline . Scario dario seems unhinged .

Elisa is a tiny , delicate beauty. I think in last telenovelas , I used to call her Tinkerbelle .

JudyB: And then we have Jose Luis' celibate, gordita wifey laying on the loveseat munching a bag of french fries or HoHos or something reading what looked like maybe a 'Glamor' magazine while her Mom in Law has been out to the store.

It is just too bad the human brain achieves full functionality so many years after the hormones do.

Little Clara has not shown herself to be too bad............yet.

Susanlynn, I can definitely remember who the cutest guy in school was. His name was Johnny, he had blond hair and ...omg, Marcelo's haircut. This was 20 years ago, Backstreet Boys was all that mattered in the world, so...

Majo did have a pair of short shorts, I think we can't see them because of Dario's shirt.

Re Scario's tragic hairdo, perhaps he gave himself a haircut like some people resorted to doing while isolated. I didn't do a very good job when I finally couldn't stand it any longer and took a scissor to my locks. His hairdo doesn't bother me nearly as much as Tio Rug's which looks like a helmet made of hair. Whatever he paid was too much.

Gracias, Jardinera.

I think Leo knows now what a suegra from Hell Nieves would have been. He's also finding out that Victoria is no better. When Elisa tried to get her to stop interrogating Leo and Victoria directed the question to her instead she should have shut her down right then and there.*

Renata's dress is one for the Fashion Felonies files. Further comments saved for a later date.

I don't think Renata needs love. If she didn't have it as a child she wouldn't trust it now. She needs structure, therapy, and medication. No alcohol, either. They should have hospitalized her long ago. She is just old enough that the mental health community may have still been a little out of its depth when her symptoms first appeared; we still aren't sure when that started.

So Sonia was in high school with Leo. A most unfortunate coincidence. Wonder whether she had the hots for him back in the day. That could spell disaster. He needs to warn Elisa that his cover is already blown.

To answer the question of the night, Majo was wearing a seriously short skirt, skort, or shorts when she was grabbed. That those are now gone make almost no difference to whether her legs are cold now. Keeping her like this prevents any escape attempt and keeps her vulnerable to rape and other abuse.

Dario can be either the kidnapper who starts falling for his victim or a very clever psycho. At this stage the writers could go either way with this. I just hope they keep the actor clued in so he can give his best performance. He's doing well so far.

Forgot to pay off the asterisk.

*That dinner party reminded me of a time many years ago when I introduced a boyfriend to my mother. I warned him in advance that she would ask all sorts of questions about his work, income and his family and that he was to give her no quantitative answers. His evasions were brilliant and necessary.

Seven years later after I had my second career job and a better apartment I stopped all information about my love life. It was the best favor I ever did myself.

Victoria, I love that photo of Fernando as Rick the pirate .

The awful villain in Pasion is now playing a sweet, loving , ethical hospital administrator in Medicos. This actor can play good and evil equally well.

Oh, I agree that Renata needs therapy and medication, but some honest TLC wouldn't hurt, either. Elisa is worried sick about Majo, but real danger could be in Renata's path, too. I don't doubt that she is capable of a lot of bad things, but for now all I can feel for her is pity.

Excellent recap and some meaty sides are just what my doctor ordered, Jardinera, thank you!

Wow, already so many great comments...all all ones that I can "ditto."

Ewww-genio needs to die a slow death...NOW! I wonder if the hairs on that rug will stand and spread just like the skunk that he is.

Adriana, I agree with you on Renutty. She does need the meds, but some TLC and a boost to her ego did wonders for her.

Diana, "I'm hoping Dario has more to serve up than a single serving of sushi. " Me too! I'm already starting to root for Dario and Mojo. Yeah, he has a silver-tongue, but Mojo might turn it into gold :-)

Urban, as soon as I saw Renutty's dress, I figured you might add it to your "Crimes of Fashion" collection..and I'm sure several of her other outfits will make that collection too!

Sonia recognizing Leo from the barrio really came from left field. What a twist! And now Scario also knows who he is! Ay! Caray! What's the man to do?!

I does seem that when Fashion Felonies are in novelas there is usually one particular character who is the prime offender. Daniela Castro is one actress who frequently becomes the fashion victim and this is not the first time that Susanna Gonzales is the one.

She also played crazy in LQNPA ten years ago.

Leo being discovered so fast only proves that they haven't done any research on the people being at dinner. This is supposed to be a decorated cop, who works undercover a lot. His police pals could create a crédible online profile in no time, but they couldn't do a simple background search on the Cantus and close friends. Putting on my beanie now...
Adriana Noel

It seems that Susana Gonzales isn't wearing any makeup and her wardrobe is bizarre . We get it; she's struggling mentally . However, her face lit up when Leo had just a few kind words for her. It makes me think of when I was student teaching in a senior high , and my supervising teacher told me, " Dont be afraid to talk to the kids. You might be the only one who says something nice to them all day. " I have never forgotten that good advice and try to be kind to people as I interact with them ..especially now.

Ah, I hit publish too fast!
I also wanted to say that another beanie moment for me is Elisa reading that journal one page a day, taking it all in, as if it weren't extremely important for her to find out ASAP if Julia ever mentioned her father, too.
She is falling in love as she's reading another woman's thoughts about the guy, kind of disturbing...

Susanlynn, it happens to me all the time: I'm having a bad day, and someone at work or a neighbor says something truly nice - it really brightens my day.
I'm curious to learn more about Renata's past, too, I hope we won't be left with only: "she's crazy, it's Marcelo's fault".

Adriana Noel, I don't think I could resist reading Julia's diary, but it is a little creepy.

Leo is becoming a true galan to me. I hope he outsmarts the evil ones.I keep thinking of Ruby and the husband \cop.

Thank you Jardinera for recap.

Since I am still trying to sort out character names, I am confused about two names: Sylvia and Sonia. Who is Sylvia? Isn't Sonia the abused wife of Eugenio? and wasn't it Sonia who clocked Leo while they were having a smoke outside?

Isn't 'Student Teaching' kinda redundant? If you were teaching them they were students by definition, Si? :-)

Anon @1:23...I believe there is some confusion as to the wife of Eugenio (Tio Rug). I think her name is Sonia but I believe some of us may have called her Silvia.

Ot. Ha.. Kirby.. . When you are an education major in college, you are assigned to a teacher in a school , and you work with his\her students. The teacher supervises you as you practice actually teaching his\her students. The student teacher is the college student who plans to become a teacher after graduation . You usually student teach in your senior year of college. Student teaching means you are teaching while you yourself are still a college student. After experiencing teaching in a real classroom, some people decide being a teacher is not what they expected and they change to a different career path.

Hi all! Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Like RGV says, it's great to see so much conversation on the patio.

My apologies if it is Sonia and not Sylvia. I wonder if she's going to blackmail Leo or he's going to come back at her with a double donchyadoit or I'll have you picked up for x,y, or z crimes. Otherwise, it is like Adriana NOel says--beanie time.

Love the "Felony Fashion" hall of fame quip, Urban. It really was a hideous thing.

Kirby: "It is just too bad the human brain achieves full functionality so many years after the hormones do." LOL! Ain't that the truth! Sort of like "If I knew then what I know now...?"

JudyB: Nieves is another kind of abuser, just like The Rug Thug.

Susanlynn: you just have a thing for tall, dark and half-way handsomes, right? He's growing on you I guess.

Two Cats: Thanks for reminding me of "Stockholm Syndrome" I kept thinking that and it was just on the tip of my tongue. : ?))
Steve: I don't think Majo's going to be killed off anytime soon if at all. She's going to redeem Dario I believe. Dunno.

Jarifa: "Renata’s dress. It looked like something from clown town." OMG yes!

Agree. Have you ever killed a cute girl who was wearing your shirt? There.

When Scario demands his shirt back he is going to discover that somehow that is ALL she is wearing. This is a TN right?

On Scario "Yeah, he has a silver-tongue, but Mojo might turn it into gold :-)". Loved that Rgv Chick!

I also enjoyed your take on Ren's "clown town" dress Jarifa.

I think Leo is absolutely gorgeous. Since everyone seems to be finding fault (albeit minor ones :) I think the path is now clear for me, verdad??

Susanlynn, I always enjoy your insights. The advice was excellent today. Must remember that you might be the only one to say or do something positive to others. A lone voice that might mean the world.

Kirby wrote: "Scario is a tough one to figure. One minute a snarling rabid dog, the next on a rooftop sushi date. He really has not physically 'DONE' anything except the kidnapping. Mostly just all mouth and waving guns around so I cannot figure what is up with him."

Yes, you make a good point. He hasn't been the one "doing" things, physically, but he's been terrifying. In the real world this is not a person you'd ever expect to be a galán.

I think he's one of the main reasons I'll probably continue to watch this novela (though I may fall behind from time to time). HOW are they going to "redeem" him? But I remember Salsero in "Amores Verdaderos" who started out as a bad guy but by the end we all loved. He had to go to prison but afterwards was able to be with his love (who was also played by Susana Gonzalez).

I think Scario is scarier than Salsero, so it's going to be a stretch to redeem him, but at the same time Salsero DID more things (not physically) but was active in betrayal. Scario seems to be following orders and I suspect (hope? wonder?) if there's some reason for his actions that will make him more sympathetic in some way. In any case, I don't see how he can escape prison ultimately, but he may still be redeemed. I'll be watching his storyline with interest.

I am warming up to Leo, who seems genuinely decent and very likable. No, he's not the handsomest, but I like the character.

Diana, I think Leo is dark, mysterious and his eyes are big brown pools of caring. I will take a backseat, but I agree with your comments.

What if, try as he will, Scario 'Fooled around and fell in luuuurve"? Frampton?

Then when push comes to shove, he dives in, taking a bullet meant for Mojo.

Would we forgive him posthumously then? I vote yes. :-)

We all know how the story is going to go beforehand with Elisa and Leo. And from what we have seen so far and from the previews, it appears that clothing is not Ms. Elisa's friend. So I can live with that. That is part of why I am so intrigued with Scario and Mojo. With those two, yikes, who knows.

Kirby, you're right, Scario could be redeemed by taking a bullet (or via some other sacrificial act) for Mojo. That I could understand. I'd believe he was truly changed and redeemed if he took a great risk to prove it.

Like you, I am intrigued with the Scario and Mojo story because as it is right now, he is SO not a good person. He's violent and seemingly crazy.

Salsero in "Amores Verdaderos" wasn't as violent, that I recall. He didn't personally (that I recall, though it's been like 7 years since I saw this) torment or terrify anyone. He wasn't as "hands on" with being a psycho to innocent people. He wasn't a good guy at the start and definitely deserved to spend time in prison to atone for his sins, but he didn't seem as volatile.

Scario is volatile. Scario is excellent at letting his freak psycho flag fly. On the other hand, Scario seems to be taking all orders from someone else, seems more of a "middle man" who doesn't have a lot of his own agency. He may be putting on an act (ordered to, or feel he must).

I'm dying of curiosity to see how this all pans out. Is Scario playacting? Is he really this insane? What's his backstory? Will he be redeemed through a risk of death or serious injury (which seems, to be honest, the most plausible way for it to play out). I guess I must find out! :D

I think that Dario is attracted to Majo, but has been fighting it. It shows in his various frustrations, especially when she refuses to eat. He should have gotten some sweats or something for her after the first rape attempt. That he didn't is a dominance move, designed to keep her vulnerable ad afraid.

What he just did with the gunshot is truly psycho. I want to know about all his previous crimes.

Finding out about Leo's identity is really going to send him over the edge.

Jardinera...ha...so true....tall, dark, and handsome with broad shoulders ....and do you remember that I always picked the linebackers over the quarterback ?

Urban wrote: "What he just did with the gunshot is truly psycho."

I know, I know! That's what I'm wondering about now. How can a man who can do that be redeemed? Based on what we see now, I don't see how it is possible, unless he is redeemed via sacrificial death or serious injury.

The only other way I can see him being "redeemed" is if it is revealed that there is some other motivation there that could explain it. That's a hard thing to imagine.

"Finding out about Leo's identity is really going to send him over the edge."

I know, I'm dying to know (and dreading to find out) how he'll react.

It would make no sense to kill Majo because she is the pawn Scariodario is holding to force Elisa to help him find those artifacts that her father had something to do with.

The actor playing Leo is much better in this th than he was in the show in which he played the president of Mexico.

I'm thinking Scario is playacting mostly to scare the girls into doing as his boss says. I assume that boss is none other than Rug Rat himself. He sure as hell needs psycho Scario cause who in the devil is terrified of Moe or Curly?

I still see hurricane Scario as somehow too much wind for the amount of real physical damage he has done. Almost like overdoing it a little like TBAWC said. Anybody that unglued freaked out cray cray with a gun in their hand seems to always shoot people along the way. That's what I am hopeoing.

Stargazing on a rooftop with your captive plus that terrible beating Scario gave the creepy guy who attacked Majo means that he is falling for her. This theme is often in older romance novels that they called bodice rippers. Come on, Scario, listen to Hall and Oates and " Do It for Love . "

Jardinera654, Iam late to the party

Ok this was good Jardinera654. I likes your name. And thank you for recap. I missed this episode cuz I
Didnt know about the earlier showin
At 7:00 yesterday, I'll catch it today.

Yeah, SusanLynn, speaking of...where is Grampa Rapeus Interruptus? Is he still down at the walk-in clinic telling some battleaxe Nurse Notgoodbody how he was attacked cleaning the gorilla cage at the zoo.?

Kirby: I'm thinking Scario is playacting mostly to scare the girls into doing as his boss says.

Yes, that is part of the role he has been hired to play. That's what I'm hoping. It doesn't make him any less psycho, because who terrorizes people for a living? But if it's all bark and no bite (and so far it appears it is), then that changes things. But he's still acting like a psycho and that does not a galán make. So something more has to happen, obviously, to make him more galán-like. Should be interesting!

We shall see!

What are the guesses on which "mood disorder" Renata has? It's got to be more than, say, bipolar disorder.

Can the writers redeem Dario at this point? What's the point of being redeemed if you have to die off?

Urban
Renata's dress is one for the 'Fashion Felonies' files!! Definitely!! The misaligned stripes really offended my engineering brain's love of symmetry. The scene only needed a 70's disco ball….

LQNPA, 10 years ago!! Say it isn't so….Has lockdown stopped time???

Jardinera
I did think the roof-top, stargazing, and childhood memory "date" was very original and romantic; so much more so than rose petals everywhere. I'm getting sick of rose petals. It will be interesting to learn about Dario's history/backstory—e.g., how did he end up being a kidnapping gangster?

BTW, thanks again for a stellar recap.

Susanlynn
José Elías Moreno is really good in Médicos. It was hard to see him so transformed from his monster role in Pasión. But it's a shame the makeup artists chose to give Daniel Arenas a beard like that. I thought he looked like a chipmunk.

Isn't it refreshing to see an actress (AB) who can cry so convincingly? Victoria Ruffo and Lucero should take 'crying' lessons from her.

Diane I think leo is gorgeous also. I Always have thought that actor was shockingly gorgeous ever since I saw him in that tn on telemumdo a few years back. HE was the galan that was murdered to my dismay. I
was very disapointed. Then I saw him in something else.

You know who else got weird hair?
Leo's cop partener his hair is thinning on the top but the other is standing at attention.

And why does dario look so tired all the time. With bed hair to boot? I like that character wrinkle
Between his eye. Kinda sexy. Leo's
Got one too. They better clean up dario's act cuz he's growin on me.

And now they've figured out that fern is a lying liar. Good.
