Imperio de mentiras, #17, 14/10/20 A Rosa by any other name would lie as much
Previously on...
Elisa is kidnapped in front of the restaurant where Leo is waiting for their “let’s start over” date. The Cantus should look into getting a 2 for 1 discount with the feds for their kidnapping situations.
Her head covered, she is taken to the fanciest looking kidnapping bunker, where Dario is waiting, to spread some of his Cantu sisters lover joy. Gun to her head, Elisa receives the following instructions: she is to take the million dollars that he will hand her and deposit it in the account that he will give her. And she has 24 hours to do it. Elisa refuses, she can’t move around all that money to their shady accounts, the constructora is being monitored. Dario points out that is not HIS problem, and if she doesn’t do as he says, mommy Victoria will be the next to suffer the consequences. Elisa, I say good riddance, let him try, see who wins in a fight with Victoria Cantu.
Leo keeps calling in the meantime, Dario answers briefly, but Leo doesn’t hear his voice. He just leaves a message, asking if Elisa is OK. Dario suggests she ask Leo how to take care of their money, maybe he has some advice. Imagine, a decorated cop like him, what would he say if he found out she’s working with them? She should really think about telling him her secret, trust is the basis of any relationship.
Elisa threatens to take the money to the police, Dario reminds her that he has proof that she has helped them before (in NY), she’s just as bad as they are. What would happen if her prestigious clients ever found out about this?
Fernasty and
Ewwgenio are fighting about Sonia and her lover. Fer is sure that Sonia will go
to the amante with the archeological piece she just gave her. And Eww should just give her a
bit of freedom, make her feel comfortable – that’s how she’ll lower her guard
and they’ll catch her.
Julia’s father, Justino, is feeling bad but Nieves refuses to admit to Clara that she caused her husband’s latest turn for the worse. He can never know the truth about Julia, that would kill him. Which shouldn’t even matter at this point, because the ambulance takes him to the hospital, where a doctor tells them that his conditions has gotten very bad. The dialysis is no longer working, his organs are failing, he’s closer than ever to a heart attack. He needs a transplant. The only problem is there is no money for one, so Nieves decides to take Justino back home.
JL and Teresa have another fight. He thinks that she needs help, she’s tired of being treated like hired help, while his mom takes all the important decisions in a house that is not even theirs. JL says that he’s paying for the house, so it belongs to them, but Teresa doesn’t feel it. She needs his respect and love, did he ever love her? JL promises that he did, but she’s not happy with the response.
Fab the Puddle comes to the Cantus to thank them for the opportunity to work for them. He apologizes for the late hour and for dropping by unannounced, but Victoria is very welcoming. Not the same can be said about Majo, who whines yet again that she had nothing to do with his hiring, since Elisa makes all the decisions in the house. Victoria scolds her for being so rude. Just then Renata shows up, hugging Fab like there is no tomorrow. Victoria doesn’t think her attitude is better than Majo’s, but Ren takes Fab away, because she has her own agenda. She talks about Marcelo, who’s such a treasure, he surely deserves a better position in the company than the one he has now. She never dared talk to Elisa about it, but could Fab help her, give Marcelo a promotion. Fab promises to look into it.
Elisa arrives just then, quickly says “hi” to Fab and runs upstairs. RUDE! Victoria goes to get her.
Elisa has the dirty money bag, and is looking at her phone, listening to Leo’s message again.
You haven’t called him yet??
Victoria arrives to scold her, too (these girls should have been thought how to behave about 20 years ago, Vicky!) Elisa wants to get rid of her mom, she’s busy with some urgent matters. Victoria says that Fab is here because SHE asked for his help with work, so why not go ask for his help. Elisa can’t argue with this, she goes downstairs.
We don’t see them talk, but she does accompany him outside. She is happy to have him around, he’s over the moon, too. He always wanted to be more than her friend (ay, ay, ay, Fab, immediately following the orders, right?) Elisa laughs it off, he was always into Fer back in the day. Yeah, but you were different. Tight hugs, just in time for Leo to spot them and go away.
Elisa, why didn’t you
call him?? Leo, why aren't you sticking around to ask what is going on?
She does try to
get in contact with him later, leaves him a message: many things have happened,
forgive me, I need to talk to you, call me. Leo listens to the message, but wont
call back. Oh, how angsty! How old are these supposed grown ups?
Ewwgenioe arrives home, demands Sonia to undress in the living room (very hard to watch this kind of verbal and physical abuse in full display), asks her to play a game. What should he do if he ever found out that she had a secret lover? Sonia, who is terrorized and hysterical, refuses to play at first, but a few screams for Genie make her say: “You will kill him in front of me.” Geez, Sonia, couldn’t you just say: “slap him on the wrist and tell him to go away?”
Marcelo, you are T O A S T!
Long after, while Ewwgenio is asleep, Sonia manages to get out of bed and leaves Marcelo a message, asking to see him urgently, she might have something that can change their lives (or end them, ahem).
Marc is in marital bliss (or not) with Renata, who’s telling him that she talked with Fab, put in a good word about his business prowess. Marcelo says a halfhearted “thank you” when his phone rings. But Renata won’t let him answer, she has baby making on her mind. Marcelo goes along, but he's already half asleep.
The next day…
Elisa wakes up and checks her phone. Leo hasn’t called yet. She leaves another message: she was so looking forward to see him, to be with him… The money bag is still there, on the couch.
Leo is having breakfast, ignoring Elisa’s calls, talking with his mom about Leslie's transfer to another school. Mom can see that Leo is upset, but he won’t talk about it. She mentions how a neighbor told her that Justino has been taken to the hospital during the night, but apparently he’s back home. Leo decides to go check up on him.
Majo is with Dario on the phone. He tells her to go ask Elisa about the bag she has in her room. She’s working with them, she was with them last night. Majo asks if her sister is in danger and she has a brief moment of clarity realizing Dario is still working for the bad guys, still up to no good. She thought he had changed.
She goes to Elisa’s room, she’s afraid and crying. She sees the bag, casually placed on the sofa (STILL!) and asks Elisa about it. Elisa refuses to explain anything, Majo better not know what this is all about. Oh, God, so much stupidity! And then you wonder why your sister doesn’t believe you.
Leo goes to see Justino, who explains him the situation. Clara is a match for the kidney transplant, but he could never accept his child’s sacrifice. Besides, they don’t have the money for it. A coffin would be less expensive.
Clara is listening to the conversation, she looks very conflicted.
Dario updates Ewwgenio : Elisa has the money, it’s her move now. What about mom? The lawyers will take care of her case, she’ll be home soon, but the police will be keeping an eye on her, so Dario can’t show his face around the house. What he needs to do is go takecare of their business.
What about Fab, will he be taking care of the Cantu business? Ewwgenio demands that Dario stay away from his other son, or else!! Dario wonders if Eww is afraid he might tell Fab that they’re bros.
JL, Adriana and Mario bring in a lip reader to figure out what Julia and Augusto talk about in one of the videos (weren’t they supposed to drop the investigation?). Leo shows up, too, JL is bothered by it briefly, but then accepts his presence. The lip reader eventually manages to understand that Augusto is telling Julia: “Stop sending me messages, you can get me into trouble. Give me 2 days and you’ll have the money.” Leo refuses to believe that Julia would ever blackmail someone (but he has no problem believing she can cheat?) JL urges him not to draw any fast conclusions. Just then they get an alert about the Cantus naming a new General Manager, Fab Legitimate Son Serrano.
Leo says they need to continue investigating Ewwgenio; he has stock in the company and now his son is working at Cantu.
Nieves thinks that Clara should ask Victoria for the money for the operation. Clara doesn’t think it’s a good idea, she hasn’t even signed her contract yet. But what if she calls the man who was working with Julia? She could do what Julia was doing. Nieves is actually giving the idea some thought, a dead daughter isn’t enough for this woman.
At the constructora Fab is psyched with the reunion they just had. Elisa is distracted (her usual business approach), is that bag still in plain sight, in her room?? She’s happy to see Fab’s enthusiasm, they need this since the negocios aren’t going that well since papa died. Fab noticed that the gallery is doing great, 3 million dollars gain just recently. Oops, Elisa covers for it, they just had some good sales. Fab suggests she open the Mexico gallery, too. Elisa admits her head wasn’t in the game recently, she had so many problems with her father’s killing and Majo being kidnapped. This is news for Fab, they were trying to keep it hush hush, but she really needs his help with the company. Fab is happy to oblige, how about lunch to strategize?
Elisa loves the idea, she’ll have Fer make a reservation. See, Elisa, you deserve what you get, not even able to make your own lunch plans.
Majo is back in bed, crying. Victoria tries to get her out of her funk. Will she go back to school or back to NY (didn't Vicky get the memo that Majo was never in NY? these people!)
Majo is hysterical, she was just kidnapped (the other day she wanted to walk in the park, now she can't even get out of bed, don't the Cantus have a therapist on speed dial?). She tells Victoria that the bad people are still around. Victoria tries to reassure her, but Majo knows better, since she’s literally sleeping with the enemy. The police didn’t do a damn thing, you don’t even know what is going on. Victoria leaves her to her tantrum and goes away. Dario calls, but Majo doesn’t pick up.
Sonia shows Marcelo the piece Fernasty gave her. This is their ticket out of this mess (and into their coffin), the piece is valued at 6 million dollars. They can find an art lover and sell it to him. Marcelo seems to agree.
Nieves calls Dario and introduces herself as Rosa Teran’s mother!
Adriana and team discover Julia’s secret identity – Rosa Teran, who has traveled several times to NY!! Now let’s see if Augusto has made any money transfers toward an account having this name.
Ah the plot thickens... says Captain Obvious.
Leo shows up at the company in search of Elisa. Fer gives him the address of the restaurant where she’s having lunch.
Fab is still giddy to be working with Elisa, he’s trying to sweet talk her with his puddle charm. Just then Leo shows up (thankfully this time he doesn’t just look on from the door) . He stakes his claim immediately, by introducing himself as Elisa’s novio. Did they have the exclusivity talk already? Nevermind, Elisa looks pleased.

Adriana: Dario is still up to no good!
"Fab the Puddle" is chomping at the bit, practically slobbering all over Elisa in record time.
So rather than just tell Eugenio what she knows, Fernanda plants a piece, supposedly to keep her already grimy hands clean. Yes, Marcelo is "toast".
Having to watch Sonia debase herself was difficult.
"Majo knows better, since she’s literally sleeping with the enemy" was perfect. So she will demonize Elisa but not Dario. And Dario's terrorizing Elisa (again) has reminded me he is nothing but a heartless thug, not a poor boy being forced to cooperate for his mother's safety.
"Elisa, I say good riddance, let him try, see who wins in a fight with Victoria Cantu. :)
Jarifa, I share your frustration regarding Elisa. I'm waiting, hoping she will dry her eyes, stand up, stiffen her spine and take control.
I read the comments yesterday and everyone contributed so many excellent insights and opinions. There is something here hiding in plain sight. Something explosive that I'm just not seeing.
Except for Renata, I'm finding Leo and Julia's families far more interesting. Can JL's marriage be saved? Absolutely not. And why on earth is Nieves calling Dario? I can't see her in a courier role. She isn't really thinking of blackmailing him can she???
There is no couple here who seems to be together for the right reason. Thrown together by chance, desperation or lies there is little to root for. I do believe Leo is a good man but there is something about Elisa (beside her constant mewling) that makes me want to tell him to run.
Wonderful Adriana Noel. Thank you so much.
Diana
Clara could give Dad a kidney? Wait what were these saps thinking? Julia could have given him TWO ! The videos have already sullied her reputation, so, is it too late to dig her up ?
MoJo is beginning to look a lot less Stockholm and a lot more like just plain old Cantu Cray Cray.
FerNasty: "Well well Sonia, so you have an insanely jealous hubby AND a boyfriend you are shagging? I admire your gumpshun. So tell you what here is a stolen artifact worth 6 Mil that everyone in our orbits would KILL for. It's yours, now run away with yore Boyfriend."
Just like that? These people would not give you a 20 percent off coupon for shit paper at WalMart, much less a six million dollar man. Sonia, is 'Undercover' work your ONLY talent?
Cantu Cray Cray - love it!
Diana, if only Nieves had the guts to blackmail Dario (then he would see how it feels like). Sadly, I'm sure she's only thinking about pimping Clara instead of Julia. One dead daughter isn't enough for this sad excuse of a mother. Hard to tell which is worse between she and Teresa. Oh, wait, there is also Victoria to consider.
Jarifa, a smart show would have Elisa do exactly what you suggested, give all the evidence to the police and together with Leo come up with a plan to trick him and catch himonce and for all. But no, she has to play scared damsel until we're out of our minds.
I was going to add that it's one thing to watch a show where the characters do stupid things but you can just laugh at them and call them novela crazy. But this show is taking itself seriously, we're supposed to believe that Elisa, the clutz is a good business woman and that Ewwgenio has managed to pretend to be good tio for the last 30 years, while secretly lusting for Victoria. Or that Sonia is an abused wife without anyone having a clue about it. Or that Adriana's apartment is plotting central and she has no problem with all the comings and goings. And so on ...
Since they do not try brain transplants yet, (though this show is a helluva recommendation for that procedure to go forward), a bullet to the head leaves everything of interest undamaged. Perfect.
I feel everyone's frustration and totally relate. After watching this episode, I decided to just "see stupid people" take in all the "strained credulousness" (thanks, Diana!) and not try to figure out who is trying to screw over whom or who is lying to whom. In other words, I simply turn off my brain!
Have we ever had a TN with so many toxic mothers? Stone-faced Nieves (oh by the way "nieves" translated means "snow" -> ice-> perfect name for her!) is not satisfied with having thrown Julia to the deadly wolves, now she is throwing her only other daughter to them...and all to pay for Justino's medical needs. I can't believe this ice queen is capable of loving anyone. And BTW, why the heck do they have Julia's phone? Why didn't the cops confiscate it??? Ahh yes, strained credulity!!
Marcelo, you are T O A S T!Ya! He is! And I'm sure there will be plenty of RED jelly on it.
The only thing that impressed me about this episode was the cops bringing in the lip reader. So it appears that Julia was blackmailing Auggie...or at a minimum, Dario was using her as the "pick up" person. IIRC, this video was from 2 days before the murders. So then, Julia must have left the house that night to go get the money Auggie was going to give her. We also have Vic who followed Auggie out of the party thinking that he was going off to meet with his lover...and she had something that she stroked in her purse. AND we can assume that Dario was following Julia that night to make sure she got the money...Arte Johnson would say, "verrrry interesting!" But DRATS!! there I go using my brain! Erase! Erase! Erase!
Hasta later...gotta go cut me some grass
A friend called last night, so i only saw the first five minutes and the last five minutes of this episodes. Elisa was being terrorized by Once Again Scario ...and then ...she wasnt ....she was lunching with Fabulously Hairy while Lovelorn Leo looked on dazed snd confused , as he bas been for the last four episodes . Huh??? I think the problem is that there was never a strong, clear storyline. I think that the actors are doing the best they can with the scripts that they have been given . Did the writers just have a barebones outline and are writing the episodes week by week? The characters are not given enough to DO , so we get a lot of rinse and repeat. There just isnt enough of a story for the actors to dig into. I'm scared. I'm hurt. I'm bad. I'm in !ove. I'm kind of crazy. I'm going to get control of this company. I'm going to the "gym" .
You sum it up so well, Susanlynn.
Since this is a remake of a rather successful Turkish series, I can only assume they are following the original. Things are not looking great, there is nothing exciting happening. Eveyone is either bad or crazy or bland, or a mix of the three.
RGV, I wish I could turn off my brain while watching, but I have to recap, so I try to give some sense to the whole thing. I don't it's that bad, it's just not what we expected it to be - a smart story with decent acting. My biggest pet peeve - not much to gaze at in the men department - halway handsome, puddle hair and Scario don't cut it.
The original Turkish series on which this is based ran for 164 episodes. I don't know if we should expect this one to go that length, but it will be super frustrating if it does. This is the 18th series I'm recapping and I share the frustrations.
We can safely assume that the kidnappings were all masterminded by Eugenio and that eventually his threat against the lover he hasn't yet identified will be carried out. He is slowly destroying the Cantu family one at a time and will ultimately destroy Fabricio along with them. He is coming off as not smart enough or not having had enough exposure to Eugenio to recognize him for what he is.
The scenes where Eugenio forced Sonia to strip are truly cringeworthy. I am waiting for when he does this in public, but that would expose his true nature, so that isn't going to happen unless he belongs to some sadistic sex cult.
We need to wonder if he intends to do this to Victoria or any of her daughters.
Julia had an alias and now doesn't look like she was more than an accomplice for Augusto. Still Nieves is as cold as her name so we can't expect Clara to escape unscathed from this.
Listen TN people when I mused the other day that your show could really use a smart family dog, did you hear "Ah, send in Poodle Hair"? WRONG !
Have Dario take him 'fishing'. Hunting is good too. Even mountain climbing, anything where two go and one returns. Sky diving, scuba diving. Playing chicken with a freight train.
Speaking of Sonia being forced to undress, does she ever wear anything under those little filmy dresses? As we watched, the red dress fell to the floor alone. Nothing else, and she did not appear to make any further movements which are are usually needed to shuck off the remainder of her things.
Come on, if none of you thought about that when sweet Julia was found dead with a bullet to the head, then you Pops, and everybody else too, for that matter, are not really smart enough to keep alive anyway. Get your will in order, G'bye.
Good thing the poor sap doesn't need a HEART.! Have to go to Axteca or UniMas.
Jardinera654 weird party this is.
Good recap tho.
Ok first of all, what the hell is dario doing? Why is he still workin
With that pile of cow sh*t he calls

Is how messed up this show is. I would really like to like him but
He is riding a bike with square wheels. And hes good at it. Which is what is so dadgum frustrating. And I don't like it.
Ok, what the hell is wrong with
Nieves pimping her daughter out? the only one thats still alive. For
Now. Clara was listening to her dad
And leo talking about no money for the operation he needs. She looks
Like she is sick of it all, I Just hope she doesn't want to make the Ultimate sacrifice and kill herself so dad could get her heart lungs Liver or whatever else he needs. Nieves is a piece of work.
No one has figured what kind yet.
