Imperio De Mentiras #34 11/10/2020: Assumption, Trepidation, and Some Serious Accusation
⦁ Leonardo is on an investigative roll. He tells his mopey, doe-eyed Elisa straight out that he's not blaming anybody in particular at this point, but he's going to investigate the leads he has and let the chips fall where they may. (Viewerville knows even if El refuses to accept it, that that must mean Tio Eugenio, especially where Sofia is concerned.) In particular, Leo's going to be investigating Gilberto [Tapia], Jose Luis's boss. He seems to be up to his neck in coverups these days, according to Leo. And, he's been putting the brakes on every aspect of this case any chance he gets. Tapia was the one who ordered Marcelo's death. Why? Well, because of all the money involved...lots of money...dirty money. She fears for his safety. He fears he'll never see her smiling and cheerful. (Say, has she ever been cheerful or smiling since he's known her?) He mentions now he's been getting the evil eye from Victoria and Fabricio since he arrived and so he'd better go before they cause a scene. She pooches her mouth, even more, to re-emphasize there is absolutely nothing between her and the Curly-Locks Kid. If there isn't, he surmises aloud, then why feel the need to bring it up? Because you do, dude--every chance you get!
⦁ Later that morning, Majo and Elisa are discussing their wanting to get Renata out of this clinic. Majo remarks that Big Sis isn't the crazy one here. In fact, she's the sanest one of the family. (No disagreement there!) "--How so?" "-- Well, she's great at observing things. She's mentioned that both you and I are involved with men that harm us." (Yup, Ren has great foresight, but no hindsight...especially where Marcelo was concerned. He wasn't necessarily included in that affirmation of the family females' lousy luck with their boy toys and bedmates.) A bit more introspection and Majo suggests she may have made the decision to hitch her wagon to Darth Dario's death-star was to get away from Mama, to defy her. Elisa suggests that that was a bit drastic and not necessary to flee from Mama. "--Oh yeah??? Then why don't you confess to Leo?" The difference is that Leo doesn't threaten the family into doing things that are against the law. He wasn't the dude that kidnapped the two of them and continues to harass her, forcing her to commit illegal acts on pain of death of a family member if she utters a word of it to the popo. Elisa pleads for Majo to stop this guy. She's apparently the only hope Elisa has of putting the brakes on this badass bastardo (pun definitely intended.)
⦁ Back at Police Central where they're now cleaning the leftovers from Tapia's disseminated grey matter off the walls, file cabinets, floor, and ceiling, El Inspector congratulates Leo on his foresight. This is the only way it could have played out, although he's certain that Tapia didn't kill himself any more than Marc did. El Inspector counters that the gun had Tapia's fingerprints on it. Sure, but why call attention to himself like this? Normally if someone wants to blow their brains out it's done in the privacy of one's home says Leo. "--So then, who do you suspect?" Leo doesn't mince words. Suspect Numero Uno is Eugenio Serrano. "--The stolen art piece was taken from Ewwy's home and Marc had it. Then Ewwy tries to murder Sonia. Marc was framed to take the fall and when he attempted to change his statement and name names, he suddenly kills himself. Right after that, Tapia also "commits suicide." [What are the odds?] It is all connected."
⦁ Ewwy warns Dario that the police are going to be on their tails now so it's more important than ever to pay off the jail scum who did the deeds and re-capitalize with more stolen paintings. (Murder and cover-ups are expensive investments in self-preservation.) And, so, Cobra's now insisting he should get a bigger piece of the contraband pie. Ewwy says sure thing. He'll give him all of the proceeds of the next job provided he gives up Majo. Cobra ain't so keen on the idea.
⦁ Back in his office, JL tries to make excuses and apologize for invading Adriana's space the other night, and so soon after rejecting her. She tells him to back off unless he wants more legal and family troubles than he's got now. "--Adios, ex-jefe."
⦁ Leo phones El and says Tapia supposedly killed himself last night and he feels Marc and Tapia's deaths are connected somehow. She needs to see him and he wants to see her but...well... duty calls. By the way, she says, Marc's being buried today in the same place as Daddy got put. Be there or be square. He'll try to hurry but lots of puzzle pieces to match up right now at the office. Lots o' pressure.
⦁ Across the room, Adriana is having a bad day. Leo looks over and asks what's buggin' her. She admits she's got one boss who kills himself and another who makes her life impossible. It may be his older brother, but she fell for a guy who only wanted to use her as his crying towel. Now she wants shed of it. Well, enough about her love-life. What about his? Seems Leo never thought his job would interfere so much with his love-life. What? Aren't his feelings for Elisa enough to overcome the petty differences and the facts of this case? Is he the type to let her go just in order to win another medal? No, not at all, he stammers. But, well Elisa? She seems to be. (And we'd agree: his is anything but a match made in heaven.)
⦁ Across town, Sarah is outside in the yard when Reynaldo drives up and lets Theresa out of the car after lunch. He hints at wanting a smooch, but Sarah is out of earshot. Lucky Theresa. Sarah notes the mysterious smile Terry's now wearing. Sarah asks her DIL who the man in the car was. Terry freezes.
⦁ At Grupo Cantu, Elisa has summoned Fabby. She's been overwhelmed with all the death over the past few weeks and mentions that Leo was correct because Marc didn't off himself. Somebody arranged his murder to look that way and Leo's got the proof. Eventually, he'll come around to realizing her two art galleries are also involved in criminal activity. He'll come after her and he will put her in jail for it. So, what does she intend to do about that asks Curly? She's clueless. But he's an expert in "these things". What could he suggest? How can they cover it up so that Leo never discovers the connection between the art galleries and her part in it all? Fab's suggestion is that Elisa closes the two art galleries or go to Leo with the truth. She refuses. (She'd rather bang her head against the wall and suffer the pain.)
⦁ At Uncle Ewwy's, Sonia receives her sentence: she's grounded for the next 9 months until the baby is born and that means her phone privileges are nixed as well. (Crap! Not that too!)
⦁ Meanwhile, Clara is with Lelie, agonizing over her father's and Julia's deaths, her part in things not quite above board, and how horrible it is having a money-grubbing mother who brought this tragedy on the family.
⦁ Majo chats with Scario about how scandalized Mama was to find her sexting...er...stripping for luhhvv while skyping. She needs to move out. She's suffocating there at the manse. Dario tells her to wait a bit and he's going to take her away from it all. Just be patient. He makes the mistake of mentioning Marc's funeral being the next day. And how does he know about that? Only the family knew about that and a couple of family friends. A lightbulb goes off in her otherwise dim brain. Did he have something to do with her BIL's death? "--That's the business, dear. It was either your sister or him (and, well, Marc drew the short straw)." Click.
⦁ Back to the discussion between Fab and Elisa, she wants whatever is behind door #3. Fab says she cannot cuz there isn't any door #3.. She's got to realize that everybody working for Cantu is going to be implicated and go to jail along with her if she doesn't close down the galleries. His daddy has money in the construction company also and it will all be lost. They'll all be goners if she doesn't agree to his advice. She says no. He resigns. He won't be part of such a titanic nightmare (pun intended).
⦁ When Leslie leaves Nieves tells her daughter how careless and outright stupid she was to open up with the truth to Leslie who swore on her telenovela life not to tell another living soul (until they ask). She's more than likely to race to her policeman daddy and spill the beans. Clara's response is Mama told her they were between the devil and the deep blue sea without a life preserver. If the police don't jail us Cobra will nail us. (How far can you swim, Ma?)
⦁ In the kitchen, Terry starts to actually help make dinner and admits Reynaldo is a former high school buddy, half-truths being better than none, we suppose. JL comes in complaining immediately about how today his life is another bowl of rotten cherries and he doesn't want to deal. When's supper? Terry waddles out of the kitchen to pout.
⦁ Leo has dinner with Adri who lives for playing matchmaker with Leo. Just because her life's a mess right now doesn't mean his has to be also. He should just call Elisa and make nice. He attempts it but then hangs up.
⦁ At the same time, Vicki rushes in to chat with Elisa. She's down. Mama, another would-be yenta tries making small talk about Fabricio and praising his attention to the family and especially towards Elisa. El is not in the mood. She resents Mama's attempt at forcing people, male people, on her. Mama can take a hint--but not very nicely; she's only trying to look out for her daughters' best interest!! She harumphs her way out of the bedroom and down the hall.
⦁ The next day JL is dressed in his best. He tells Sarah that he's going to be promoted now that his immediate superior just bought the farm.
⦁ As the funeral is about to start Fab tells his father that he wants to have a confab soon. It's definitely got to do with Marc's death and Leo's investigation. He wants to shut down the two galleries or Leo will begin investigating those and who knows what will happen then? Ewwy is totally opposed to that as the construction company needs them open. It would be financial suicide otherwise. No. They'll have the convo but not right now.
⦁ While she's alone in the house, Sonia uses Ewwy's office phone to call Elisa. It is a shock when she learns she's not available due to attending Sr. Marcelo's funeral today. Sonia implodes and goes on an ugly crying jag. FF>>FF>>
⦁ At the same time, Sarah mentions to Terry that JL believes he's getting a promotion today. He certainly hadn't crossed two words with Terry so no, she had no idea. Good on him...she leaves the kitchen in a huff cuz she had to hear the news from Sarah instead of JL himself.
⦁ At the manicomio, Renata may have a new friend if not a new admirer. His name is Mauricio. Mauricio invites himself along with Ren and her nurse while they take a walk around the premises.
⦁ At Police Central, JL tells Mario of his probable reinstatement and promotion. However, he's only been half right. JL gets reinstated, but the new boss--his new boss and Tapia's replacement is Leo! (Dun-dun-dunnn!) JL returns to his office and grabs his things. He's damned if he'll start taking orders from his kid brother!
⦁ Terry, meanwhile, is on the phone to Reynaldo telling him of her plans to leave the house and make a new life for herself. She's never worked before, but she'll do anything to get free of this family. Rey doesn't look that excited to hear it.
⦁ Adri and Leo are parked a bit away from the funeral about to take place at cadaverous Marc's "new digs". Leo's there to be a shoulder to bear Elisa up during this trying time. (Fool.) What's the reason first, Adri wants to know before they walk over, that has got Leo thinking Eugenio's behind all the recent criminal activity? Why, it's the fact that, according to Marc, Sonia took some of the invoices off Ewwy's desk when she brought Marc the stolen artifact and gave them to Marc to look over. Those were invoices from Elisa's art gallery. So now he's going to launch an investigation into Elisa's two galleries. Suddenly matchmaker Adriana has a major migraine. (I guess Leo and she have never heard you don't dip your wick in the company well.)
⦁ Adri and Leo start walking towards the mourners. Victoria starts screeching. "--What is that man doing here??? He has no business here!" El turns around and walks over to Leo. Leo tells her he's there for her. She says thanks but no thanks. It apparently isn't such a good idea after all. He is more than a bit perturbed at her and the family's snubs and loudly asks why not? Who's got an issue with him showing his face there? Eugenio can't miss this. Leo's left himself wide open. Ewwy demands to know what he's doing there. Leo is more than ready to rumble about now. "--How great it is to see you since I've got a warning for you!" "--You don't say!" (Ewwy can sneer with the best of them.) Leo's unstoppable now. "--I'm not stopping till I put you behind bars for the crimes you've committed! Trying to silence your accomplices won't help you one bit!"
⦁ El tries to get Leo to leave for now. She'll catch up with him later. Fab, emboldened by this, tries to put in his own 1 1/2 centavos' worth. "--You've heard Elisa. Leave the premises." Leo manages a believable bulldog and barks at Poodle Boy to back off and stop interfering. The Poodle Boy strains at his leash, growling that he'll back off and not get involved when he damn well feels like it--which he doesn't!! The two start nipping and ripping at each other. Guests try pulling the two of them back from the brink of Leo's being charged for badmouthing with a deadly weapon. Ewwy tells Leo to go ahead and charge him if he thinks he can. "--Oh, sooner or later it will all come to light," Leo shoots back. Ewwy accuses Leo then of being jealous of Fabricio and taking it out on him instead. "--Oh, it will all come out in the wash, sooner or later --but hey, what about Sonia, huh? You took her out of the hospital so she wouldn't speak to me and tell me the truth! Isn't that it?" (Guess we'll have to wait for the last of this exciting exchange of insults till next time.)

I found this to be quite a good and exciting episode. Who knows what kind of pressure Leo will be able to put on Eugenio when he finds out about his promotion? Elisa really needed Marcelo to tell her what her choices were? Anyway, I liked her jacket.
So Sonia is really too dam dumb to contribute to the gene pool, which is contrary to the only thing we have seen her to be good at. Case in point, her hubba dubba tries to kill her and she somehow dodges that by the grace of the Coast Guard, but can't tell because he will kill the beneficiary of the only thing she is good at. When she finds out that he killed him anyway, does she bolt out of there on foot, barefoot and pregnant to somewhere, anywhere safe and start talking? Nopis. Sits on the frigging floor and cries. Ugly Cries.
Leo may have to throw out all his panties and start wearing the roomier boxers. I thought a nice punch to the face would have been perfect for Fab at the funeral, but just chihuahua style yapping and posturing is all he could muster. (They are still developing, see 'boxers')
Fab has no idea how deep the swamp is, does he? He is still on thw 'Corporate Takeover' chapter in the playbook, not having gotten to 'Murder and Mayhem'......yet. In some ways Fab seems to have good intentions. IE: he seems to be dishonest and greedy, but not downright evil like ...well...I am not going to list almost the whole cast, say..Eww and Vic.ious
I'm really starting to get second thoughts about JL. I don't know how a cop from a totally different division could be promoted to a job that he never asked for and doesn't appear in line for, but Leo and his two muskeeters seem to be the only two honest cops of the bunch and all that power will really help Leo against Eww.
Just like the rest of you I have given up on trying to understand Eliesa's reasoning, but confiding in Fab will probably hurt Leo just as much as the actual crimes that she did when all is discovered. Even the Poodle suggested the truth, but she's not even considering it. At this point I'm rooting for Majo and Dario more than Eliesa and Leo.
Kirby, hopefully, once the shock of Marcelo's death goes away Sonia will find a way to get out of that house. Why would she call Eliesa and not the cops, anyway?
Yes, she should go outside, climb a pole and tap out a message in Morse code on the telephone wire. :-)
Come to think of it, I saw one climb a telephone pole and do something on the wire too the other day.
Your assessment of Elisa as "mopey, doe-eyed" and "She pooches her mouth, even more" had me smiling away.
I've no doubt the smartest character here is "Darth Dario". Imagine if he'd used his power for good rather than evil. Every once in a while I still wonder if he is "undercover" but it's just a futile effort to find some rationale to justify how truly terrible he can be.
"He'll give him all of the proceeds of the next job provided he gives up Majo". He has threatened to kill Majo multiple times. He must be backing away as he knows Dario is definitely the sharpest tool in his box.
"Leo manages a believable bulldog and barks at Poodle Boy to back off and stop interfering". Leo knows he will never be welcomed with open arms. But before he starts worrying about Elisa's family, he should start worrying about her.
Instead of quaking with fear at the looming repercussions of her business dealings, Elisa just manages to look helpless and hopeless. And agree Adriana Noel, her loose lips telling "Fabby" every little thought that comes into her mostly empty head isn't helping.
Kirby, I agree with you and think overall Fab is operating with little malicious intent, save jealousy over Leo. Self-serving and selfish but not murderous.
I don't know how Sonia is even functioning and I see her, rather surprisingly as a survivor. Marcelo's shock to her system was just the last of many. She pulled through, is pregnant and is at the (no) mercy of her abusive and murderous husband. I hope she calls Leo as he is the only port she can count on in her storm. If there are any two characters I wish some peace for at the end, it is her and Clara.
I smirked when JL didn't get the job. Get a shave, get a haircut, go home and have your mama console you and wait on you. Ack.
This was great Jardinera - thank you.
Diana
Kirby, I forgot to mention it in my first comment, but I have to wonder what is keeping Sonia inside that house, too. It's a huge mansion, not a shack in the middle of the forest. Did he seal off all the windows? Fire all the staff? He's threatening to kill her mom, but he already killed Marc, who was better leverage. What will stop Sonia now, except unplausible novela reasoning?
Leo, come on, you are the official galan of this tale of money, sex, art, and despair . We want to see you large and in charge . We need a hero... Well, I need a hero. They seem to be in short supply lately .
Darthdario has got to start focusing on revenge again . He is getting too distracted with his horny demands for more nudy photos of Mojo, who seems to be losing her mojo .
I still have a landline unlike many friends who gave theirs up to avoid all the annoying phone calls . Why did Eww, master of darkness, leave the phone where So-not can use it ?
Elies-a just sighs and furrows her little brow and looks so so sad and upset as she stares into Fabbys hairy face . Gee whiz . Leo , your supposed novio ,is the person you should be turning to. He's a cop.
Just turned on Uni and there was Manana Es Para Siempre and TBLMOE watching mud wrestling in a bar. I don't remember that storyline !!!
I haven't much too add. Leo made a good attempt at being a bulldog and his brain cells seem to be on the move. Let's hope that his battery doesn't lose its charge. Or as Kirby put it, "Leo may have to throw out all his panties and start wearing the roomier boxers."
If Sonia were to get away, where would she go and how would she get by. Diana, "I hope she calls Leo as he is the only port she can count on in her storm. I think that is her best bet, but Leo also needs to get Sonia's mother some protection since Eww had her brought her back to her house.
Adriana Noel, "What will stop Sonia now, except unplausible novela reasoning?" Yup, I'm pretty sure that is what it is :-)
Susanlynn, "Why did Eww, master of darkness, leave the phone where So-not can use it ?" Over confidence? He probably thinks she is so scared that she wouldn't dare make a move.
2020, O the memories we shall have.
And then that other one they seem to be concerned about. You take care buddy
I've been lucky enough to never experience extreme weather conditions, even if devastating inondations do occur in my corner of the world every now and then.
It is getting rather cold in the Paris area, too, today we had very dense fog (not as dense as Eliesa, but still) and some mornings are close to 0°C. Not great when you have to leave the house at 4:30 am, but at least I'm only 15 minutes away from work.
Re: Sonia's mom. There has been a lot of talk about her, Leo even knows her, but nobody seems truly worried with her well being for now. I don't blame Leo for forgeting her, he has enough troubles trying to save people who are right under his nose. He does try, though, and he's growing on me more every day. Too bad he and Clara would be icky together, because they are the only two sane persons right now.
The hurricanes of old would stay pretty much on at least ONE of the spaghetti models, which were usually in more or less agreement.
These new Her.ricanes must have cell phones now, as when NOAA comes up with a projected track she is like:"Oh Yeah?" Screeeech, right turn.
I live very close to the coast, but am on fairly high ground. Have weathered many storms, so will fight this one off too, though in reality the media always makes everything seem much worse than it is. I'd be surprised if Naples South of me would have any worries unless you live in a SMALL boat.
Thanks Jardinera, great recap!
In this episode, I think Elisa sealed her fate! I don’t expect a happy ending for Leo and her. Instead of trusting Leo by telling him the truth, which I am sure would include her becoming free of charges, both for being a victim and helping the investigation to bring the guilty parties to justice, she chose the dark side, choosing Fabricio and continuing to hide the truth. Honestly, I don’t even want to see her with Leo in the end!
I wonder what is going to happen between JL and Leo now that Leo was promoted into the position that JL expected . JL started out as a respected cop devoted to his family , but the was a sharp turn a litt!e while ago. Will be go to the dark side now ? Will Darthdario sudden!y see the light when Was goes after mojo? Is Eww telling Darthio to stay away from his mother ?
OK I stand corrected. I missed that somewhere along the line, Thanks. So she is there at home alone now. And as we saw last night Leo is down one headcount (J.Louse) so it is just the three Mousketeers now.
As she and her 'guard' walked by he was having quite a discussion with a frigging LEAF.
I wonder if he really is interested in Ren or is just trying to make the leaf jealous.
Seriously, though, writers -- a Marcelo, a Mario, and now a Mauricio? You couldn't name at least once of them Chuchi?
Sonia does cry ugly.
Poodleboy has bite.
I like that talk el n majo had in ren's room. These people know they are screwed up but yet dont try and
Fix the problem. Just makin it more worst.
Eliesalot should not talk to poodle
About stuff leo tells her cuz he runs and blab to rughead. Blabber!
Dario is not redeemable. He is in that mess up to his messy hair roots. He is using that blood money
To live on just like ewwwgy and all
The rest of the crooks. He probly
Bought momma that nice house she's
Living in with that blood money. He
May not have killed no body but he knew about it, and he knows daddy gave the go ahead. Hes just as bloody as his ol man. And he a perv
Just like rughead. Yall saw what he did to sonia, had her strip while he watched. Now while he didnt humiliate majo she may have been when vic-ious caught her.
Jl got nerve mad cuz he got looked over for baby brother. I knew that
When he came out mad that they had given leo the promotion. And he dont want to be takin orders from
His kid brother, hah! And last shall
Be first and the first shall be last, hehe. He'll get over it. And he Should be proud of little bro.
I was watchin that scene at the new digs fer marc, the poodle n pitbull fight, and the golden retriever was
Standing there(eliesalot)leo should
Just let her go for the time being
Cuz she can't see that tio rug is anything but angelic. He is gonna have to fight fire with fire. And Dirty fire too.
Well it's getting heated up, bout darn time.
Thank yall for your prayers for florida. By the Grace of God we shall survive.
Great recap Jardinera♡
And WTF2.0 is Leo doing blabbing everything to E.Lies.a about Tio Ewwo when she thinks Ewww walks on water and knows Leo suspects him? You keep that stuff to yourself while you are building your case. When you have your ducks in a row, you swoop in with a team and arrest everyone.
Forwarned is forearmed.
I am, however, starting to take Teresa's side. She needs to get better with Leslie. But JL is turning into a real tushiehead. "I've had a bad day and therefore can't deal with your stupid problems, Wife and Mother". Maybe if he got kicked out, Teresa and Sara would get along better. Seems like even Sara realizes she's actually happy for a change and it has nothing to do with her idiot husband. And he is too going to have to take orders from his hermanito if he doesn't want to have to get another job or sit around the house all day with the womenfolk. Suck it, JL. (happy face emoji)
Kelly
Morning. We will be Rained on from 5:00am to 3:00pm. I like am storms. I'D like them even more of I didnt have to get up and go to work in them. With winds 30-45 mph. Don't cha just love hurricane season? Glad you guys are ok kirby.
And you are right about leo talkin to much, cuz elies-alot went and told poodleboy what leo told her &
He ran to daddy rug and blabbed.
Leo is not displaying police commissioner intelligence. He talks to much. If this is how he is no wonder jl don't want to take any orders from kid brother.
