Imperio de Mentiras Domingo 2/7/21, Chapter 91 Finale: A Kiss Before Dying

Dear Readers: We're about to wrap up the story. Justice has mostly prevailed, which is more than we can usually expect. There are still a few unanswered questions, but that's par for the course. – Velma, secretary to Mr Hammett

Renata flashed back to the night of Elisa's birthday party. She remembered arriving at the scene of the murders as she held the pistol in her hand. She cried out in anguish.

Leo arrived at his office to find his mother. She told him that José Luis had told her that when he arrived at the murder scene Augusto and Julia were already dead. He did not believe this, but Sara told him that he had to have seen him. José Luis hsd sworn this to her. Leo wasn't impressed. She believed him this time, as he had no reason to lie now. He lied to prevent the guilty party from hurting any of them. Leo still looked doubtful.

Victoria went to Eugenio's house to get her suitcases. The maid told her that Eugenio was out but that Fabricio was in the study.

Leo discussed this with Adriana, who brought up the money-laundering. He then asked about the man who had beed found dead in the hotel room.

She got up to get the file and Mario entered the office with the warrant for Eugenio's arrest.. They could act on it immediately.

Fabricio was going through papers when Victoria questioned him about Eugenio's whereabouts. Without looking up he told her that Dario had trapped him. The police had gone into the warehouse and found evidence. “It's all over.” The maid entered to tell Victoria that Leonardo was there to talk to Eugenio. Both jaws dropped like those of newly caught fish.

Fabricio told Maria he would talk to Leonardo. He then told Victoria they still had time and now his father was worth more dead than alive. He stepped away from the desk and Victoria noticed the pistol that lay behind the computer monitor.

Leo had not come alone. There were reinforcements as well as Mario and Adriana. Of course he did not believe that Eugenio was not there; Fabricio invited them to search, so they scattered. He then told Leo that Eugenio decided to escape with his accomplice, Dario. Leo wasn't ready to believe this. Victoria came in, saying that Eugenio wasn't there and claiming not to know where he was. Also that he was the last person she would tell if she knew and to get lost. The other police appeared, shaking their heads. Victoria remained as stone-faced as ever while Fabricio smirked. Leo and the other police left. When the door was closed Victoria told Fabricio she intended to strip away everything from Eugenio. She intended to make him suffer over what he loved most: Money.

As Piedad sat in her wheelchair still in shock, Majo tried to persuade Dario that it was time for them to escape. He went over his deeds and came to realize he was just like Eugenio. He told Majo to leave; she refused. Both cried. Eugenio shouted for him. Dario repeatedly told her to leave because “I can never be the man who will suit you.”

Leo told Elisa about José Luis' latest version of the story; she didn't believe it. Nor did Leo, who thought that José Luis told this to get their mother's forgiveness. He had lied to protect his family. Leo said that meant he had to continue investigating. That sounded familiar to Elisa and she asked “Who was the killer?”

They heard a noise and a cry. Then what sounded like a siren. Elisa said “Renata – “ and they ran upstairs. They found Renata with the pistol in hand, hysterically crying out. The baby was crying. She must have unlocked the door; Elisa and Leo entered without him having to break it in. He put Elisa behind himself and gently told Renata to hand him the gun.

Fabricio went back to the study and continued looking for Eugenio's Swiss bank account numbers. He found none in Victoria's name. When she looked shocked he said “Do you still trust him? Do you think he loved you? My father is an unfeeling cold-blooded killer. He is incapable of loving anyone. His sons have suffered humiliations all throuhout life. He is capable of erasing us at any minute. He ordered Majo's kidnapping. He was using Elisa. He ordered the murder of Augusto.”

Victoria began to cry. “I just found out that he had molested Renata since she was a child,” Fabricio had the decency to wince. “Then why did you marry him?” “I just told you; I didn't know!”

As the baby's cries became louder, Leo told Renata to look him in the eyes and hand over the pistol. She would not, saying she could not. “I'm crazy. Now I remember everything.” Elisa asked her what she remembered as she went to the crib to pick up the baby.

Fabricio then asked her for her help to strip Eugenio of everything. He needed the bank records. Victoria took them out of a large book. He went to the desk, saying they had to sign something that gave him control over all of Eugenio's assets. “How do I know you won't betray us?” she asked. “Once the money is in my hands I will share it.” [Yeah, and leprechauns will lead me to the pot of gold at the endof the rainbow.] “Victoria, if you don't sign this now the police will soon seize everything. Sign it.” She did not look willing.

Renata went into her most frequent rant. “Why can't I be happy?” she said, as Leo still asked her to hand over the gun. She looked at Elisa and accused her of taking the baby She then confessed to killing their father with that very weapon.

Eugenio called out to Dario to “talk like father and son.” Piedad went out to Dario and told him and Majo to escape. Eugenio would not stop.

Majo told Dario to resist. Piedad said he didn't have to be the same as Eugenio, who kept taunting him. Dario then turned away from Majo to re-enter that room.

Elisa left the baby with the maid and went back into Renata's room. Leo was still trying to talk her down. She would not surrender the gun. She saw that Elisa was no longer holding the baby. She asked her if someone took him. Elisa replied yes. Renata said “an hour ago I was alright” and pointed the pistol at her temple. Leo got closer and continued to talk to her until she handed it to him. He left the room and wrapped it in a bandana while Elisa embraced Renata. When Leo returned to the room Renata realized that her confession and the weapon could put her in prison. Elisa said that nobody knew what happened that night and Renata shouted not to treat her as though she were crazy. She begged forgiveness and asked to be left alone. Leo told Elisa to stay with her and she almost shouted at him not to leave. Renata said “Understand it; I killed our father.”

Clara paced, picked up the phone, then put it back. Sara saw that something was wrong and tried to get her to talk. It was about Majo. She was worried about her and certain she would be hurt because guys like Dario don't change. She knew where they were but didn't want to betray Majo. She admitted her feelings for her and that Majo had friendzoned her. Sara told her that if she was certain of the danger she had to help. That would be a true expression of love. She urged her to contact Leo.

Elisa followed Leo down the Staircase of Near-Doom and begged him not to do this, even saying he was doing this to save his brother. Leo said that his brother was a different matter. Elisa went iinto denial, saying that Renata went into another crisis. He tried to get her to calm down, saying that it could prove Renata's innocence but she said she would never forgive him if Renata ended up in prison. He walked out without another word.

Eugenio kept on shouting. Majo became more anxious about Dario and did not know what to do. Piedad told her to talk to Dario and that she was the only one who could influence him. “He never listened to me.” Majo said that if Eugenio was messing with his head since childhood he had to die.

Adriana told Leo that the gun was with ballistics. If the tests prove that Renata was the killer he would have to explain this to Elisa. He said this would cause him to lose her. He wanted to protect her from any more pain. He wanted her to be happy. His phone rang and it was Clara, who told him where Majo and Dario were.

Eugenio pulled the biggest mind-fuck of all on Dario by pulling the muzzle right to his forehead before pulling the “I'm your father” card and saying he loved him. It broke Dario just enough for Eugenio to grab the gun. They struggled for it. Majo and Piedad heard the shot. Eugenio walked out of the room and walked right past Majo and Pieda, who cried out “You shot your own son!” Majo yelled to call an ambulance;

Dario was hit in the gut. Piedad made the call, then saw Majo hold Dario and tell him he was goig to live. Her sobs made it impossible to understand him until he asked her to kiss him.

She did. She begged him not to leave her alone. He said he would always love his star. Then he died in her arms.

Renata woke up and asked about the baby. Elisa told her he was with Marta and that “You have to rest.” Renata said she would have to say goodbye to him. She also said how was she supposed to get over this, over being soiled. She then explained that it began when she was twelve years old and told her that Eugenio molested her for a long time. “My father knew about it and I think Mother knew, too. They preferred to keep silent about it and say I was crazy, turning their backs on me. I was a child and they didn't protect me. They never protected me. They left me with a friend who molested me.” She cried. Elisa remained silent, as if she could not absorb this horror.

Leo arrived at Fernanda's apartment with the same reinforcements as before. He found Piedad and Majo leaning over Dario's body.

Fabricio told Fernanda she had to say goodbye to her son. She would never see him again. He warned her not to do anything stupid. She told Juanito she had to go away but would be back. She cried as they hugged.

Elisa and Renata hugged. Elisa asked her why she never told her; she would have helped her. Renata asked rhetorically “How could you when I couldn't remember anything?” Elisa said she couldn't believe that their mother didn't know and said “She will pay for this.,” They talked about Victoria marrying Eugenio and Renata said it was about getting something back. Leo called Elisa's cell. She didn't want to answer but Renata urged her to. Leo – who was back at the precinct – told her about finding Majo and that Eugenio had killed Dario. Majo was at the station, uninjured but in shock. Elisa said she would come to get her.

After ending the call Leo took the photo of Renata off the bulletin board.

Fabricio had someone take Juanito out. He then pulled Fernanda into the kitchen and drew his pistol. His phone rang before he could shoot.

It was Eugenio, who told him he had to kill Dario and would now have to leave the country. Fabricio said he would be on his way.

Elisa went to the police station. Leo told her that Elisa was with Adriana, but he had to talk to her. He told her he did not tell anyone of Renata's confession so she was not to worry about that. He then told her that she was his priority. He made a grand declaration of love, saying she was the greatest love of his life. She said she loved him and saw his compassion for Renata. She said she had been through so much and he asked about it. She told him about Eugenio having molested Renata repeatedly for years. Further, Renata had said that her parents knew about it. Elisa said that Eugenio must pay for this. Leo was shocked and expressed sadness for her. He then handed her the crime scene report from the night of the murders. He asked her to read it calmly and he would abide by her decision. He left her to read it while going to fetch Majo.

The next morning Majo stepped out of the house where she broke from reality.

She saw Dario in jeans and a clean shirt with a curly-haired boy of about six years, the child she never had, She woke up from this dream to find her sisters watching her. She told them of the dream through tears and that she could not believe he was gone. Renata told her she would get past this and they would help her. Majo asked about Victoria. Elisa said she was at Eugenio's house; not sure if Eugenio was there. Majo said that if Eugenio would kill his own son he was capable of anything. Elisa looked at Renata who said she hoped her mother capable of taking care of herself because she didn't know who was the more dangerous. Elisa said nothing. She got up and sent a text message on her phone.

Eugenio stumbled into Fabricio's apartment and asked what he did with Fernanda.

He opened the closet door, showing that she was bound and gagged. They demanded the insurance money. Fabricio talked about putting a pistol to her head. Eugenio got in her face, telling her that “Everything that is happening is your fault.” Fabricio closed the closet door.

Eugenio said that everything was ready. They would get on a private plane for Panama and after that for Switzerland. Nobody knew about their foreign bank accounts. Fabricio said he had all the numbers and made distributions. Eugenio didn't like that. Fabricio said that things were changing since Dario's death.; he was in.

Eugenio then told him to kill Fernanda because one should not leave evidence. His tone of voice showed how much he got off on the death of others.

Leo and Adriana were about to have coffee when Mario came in with a report on Eugenio being in Fabricio's neighborhood. They split up to go to the two criminals' addresses, certain that they were going home for passports and cash.

Victoria looked out the window at Eugenio and Fabricio entering through the front gate. When they got to the main floor Eugenio told Fabricio to take all the money out of the safe.

Victoria then stopped him with “Holá, mi amor” and he turned around to see her holding his passport. She threw it at him and aimed at him with the pistol she found in the study. He called her ridiculous, demanding to know what she thought she was doing.

She kneecapped him.

She did not stop there, landing two more bullets before Fabricio ran in and tried to wrestle the gun from her.

Adriana charged into Fabricio's duplex with a half dozen cops.

She detected the odor of gas and turned off the open gas jets on the stove, then opened the closet door and found Fernanda. She told the others to call an ambulance.

A police car pulled up in front of Eugenio's home. Leo led the way inside, yelling “Put down your weapon and don't move.” Victoria let go of it and Leo pointed his at Fabricio.

He moved in, disarmed Fabricio, and someone yelled to call an ambulance. Mario wrapped the pistol to put in the evidence bag and Victoria tried playing the pending murder victim. Eugenio was still alive. Leo told her she could argue self-defense. Leo got a call. Caller unknown, but he asked “Are you sure? I agree.” He ended the call. He told Victoria they were taking her home.

Fernanda survived and was reunited with Juanito.

Leo brought Victoria home, suitcase and all. He exchanged looks with Elisa, who was ready for this.

“I can't believe you would go back to Eugenio's house after what Renata said. It was very bad to leave her alone.” Victoria tried the same lie, that Eugenio had tried to kill her.

But you knew what he was like and still you went back. Why?”

I had to recover important things.” She looked back at her suitcase. “And Majo? How is she? I want to see her.”

Renata confessed. It was she who shot Father.”

Oh, please! That's absurd.” She pointed to Leo. “His brother was the thug who said he shot your father.”

Permit me to say it would appear absurd that Renata could do anything like that,” he said. “There was a weapon. It's being analyzed now,” Leo said.

Do you know who would have put it there?” Elisa asked.

If I knew your sister had a weapon obviously I would have taken it away. Especially in her condition, for God's sake.”

I know everything that happened that night. How the killer arrived and shot Father in his car.”

But didn't talk about the shooting. Nor was there mention of Julia's presence,” Leo said.

What happened, Mother? What's wrong?”

The secret between your sister and I...I hope you understand what I'm going to say.”

How long have you known?” Leo asked.

I've always known. Renata told me she got the gun but I didn't know what shit provoked it. Well, you have a confessioin and you have the weapon. I suppose a judge will take her condition into account. I hope you will also do that. After all my daughter has suffered. All of us have suffered. Do that for the love you allegedly have for Elisa.”

Did Renata tell you who shot first –”

No! She didn't tell me! She didn't tell me,” shouted Victoria. “Obviously we didn't talk about this.”

We are sure your husband was the first to be shot,” Leo said. “That night the killer followed Augusto and arrived at the scene of the crime...”

Flashback to the argument between Julia and Augusto about the artworks.

The killer was armed and knew what was to be done. The killer aimed at and shot Augusto.”

Flashback of Victoria in her evening clothes, jewels, and hair. Julia saw her shoot Augusto. She bolted out of the car and started to run, falling and getting up.

Julia tried to escape,” Leo continued. “She begged for her life. And just like that, you killed her.”

Victoria shot Julia.

Are you accusing me of murder?” Victoria asked.

Stop lying, Mother.”

How can you talk to me like that? I always protected your sister.”

Did you protect her when Eugenio was molesting her?”

I didn't know anything! I just found out!”

That's impossible or why did you have her locked up and doped up in clinics if not to make sure she didn't talk? [???]

It wasn't me, Elisa. It was Eugenio!”

What's in the suitcase. Mother?”

Nothing. My stuff.” She was getting nervous.

Elisa went straight to the suitcase. Victoria protested loudly. Renata and Majo came downstairs. Elisa opened the suitcase, revealing artifacts that were exchanged for Majo's release. “Can you explain this? Why do you have these things for which Majo was kidnapped? Why? We were all almost killed!”

Victoria looked at Renata and asked “Why didn't you just shut up?”

I can't stay quiet,” Renata said. “Once I remembeed I couldn't. I couldn't carry the guilt. Elisa knows I killed my father.”

It wasn't you, Renata,” Elisa said.

Adriana, Mario, and several others arrived with the pistol in an evidence bag.

Here is the evidence that you killed them,” Leo said. “The first time you came to the precinct we took all your fingerprints.”

He went on to explain Renata going out to Augusto's car, finding him dead, and becoming hysterical, Victoria heard her and approached. Renata fainted.

Victoria confessed that she put the gun in Renata's hand while she was unconscious.

She then looked in the suitcase, took it out, and closed the car door.. She left Renata there with the gun in her hand. Renata regained consciousness, stood up, and saw her father dead. She raised the gun, then Victoria came up from behind asking “What have you done?”

That was the only way to save us,” said Victoria, through her crocodile tears. “I killed Augusto because I knew he had a mistress. I killed Julia because I thought it was her.. He would have taken everything, so I killed him. I would do it again.” She looked at Renata. “Also Eugenio, for what he did to you.” More tears. “I didn't want you to know all I did for you., It's difficult to understand, but that's how it is.”

She gave no resistance when Adriana cuffed her. All three sisters were crying. The followed out to watch Victoria being driven away in the police car. They hugged each other, then Elisa went to Leo.

A few days later Fernanda went to Elisa's office and handed her the transfer document to return the insurance money. She wanted to return it because she wanted to do the right thing. Elisa would not take it back, saying it was for her and her son. “My father had his reasons.” Fernanda thanked her, they shook hands, and Fernanda left.

Sonia was released from the reclusorio. Renata and Mauricio met her outside the gate and returned her baby to her. She was a free woman and could come to feel safe.

Elisa went home. Majo looked depressed and asked if they will ever be happy. Elisa told her they would, she was sure of it. Also that Eugenio would be in prison for the rest of his life. Further, that his injuries damaged his spine and he had lost mobility over his entire body. She told Majo to give grief time to heal. Majo said she decided to go back to university. Elisa wanted both her sisters in the family business with her. Renata was particularly excited at the prospect.

Eugenio's life would be a living death in a prison cell.

Adriana was like a new woman and with a makeover and an honorable man.

Leo visited José Luis in prison and confronted him about the murder of Reynaldo. Pinqui was the hired hit man. He didn't exactly confess, but pointed out that with all he had lost in the last year, does he need any more punishment? Leo took that as a confession ad left.

Six months later the Cantù family welcomed an honorable man as Leo and Elisa married in the shadows of an ancient ruin, looking like a 1930s movie couple. With the promise of eternal love.

Thanks for reading this. My boss will be recovered soon. This has been such a difficult tale to tell so I need a vacation, even if it's only watching movies at home with my cats. Mr Hammett will be back and I will leave the spotlight for him; it's too tiring at times.

Comments:
Urban, “Velma” sure did the gran final justice. I so enjoyed your fantastic retelling this morning. The screenshots and your narrative were perfect!

Thank you and the other recappers for covering this novela with such style!

A few final thoughts:

As I watched, which for me was a very satisfying and enjoyable ending, I was left with the “might have beens” and what was. When I heard Fabricio threaten Fernanda ONE MORE TIME that she was going to lose her son, it hit the nail on the head for me. There was nothing wrong with the plot, but is was too repetitive and went in frustrating circles way to long. This story could have easily and much more effectively told in 50 episodes or less and left me a happy viewer rather than a frustrated one. There was nothing wrong that “a pair of scissors” couldn’t fix.

In addition, I have never seen a novela where the actors seemed to be shown at their most non-attractive with odd camera angles and little or unflattering makeup. The dark muted color palate was consistent until the end with the wedding. These methods were very effective in enhancing the telling a very ugly tale. In the midst of this, there was Angelique Boyer’s wardrobe which was unique and beautiful.

The cast was outstanding in its members and their performances.

The mystery went much deeper and was more complicated than expected. The anvils were appropriate: for example: Eugenio getting shot multiple times by his “wife” and ending up rolling along in the big house.

I look forward to seeing everyone else’s opinions.

UA: Good Job on the recap of last night's Gran Final 2 HRS.

Jarifa: I was happy Sonia got her baby back. I had a feeling Vicky was the killer based on her Body Language.

I'm assuming Clara & Majo remained friends, but Clara's body language tells me she's got her love of Majo 100%.

Mario & Adriana FINALLY became a couple & it was awesome seeing Leo & Elisa getting married.

Thank you Urban. What a piece of work and two hours on top of that. Thanks again.
The wrap up was OK, I guess. The 'I want a pretty wedding' crowd got one. I just cringed the whole time thinking that these two were actually going to MARRY? Oh Well, hopefully they will not bear children before they realize their mistake.

The good: Seeing poor maligned Piedad accepted into this crowd as evidenced by her at 'The Wedding'. Because now she is totally alone in the world. Frog stray strand was not. hmmmmm.

I actually watched the pre-Grand Finale with one eye also. Seeing many of the cast out of character and with their normal war paint was interesting. Majo is smoking with the right coat of paint. With Clara a close second.

I suppose Ewww's punishment was OK. I just wonder if being in a wheelchair takes him out of the prison homosexual rape rotation. Talk about unintended consequences.

We even got an answer about Reynolds' Wrap via Pinky. It was actually kinda funny. Well, we found out who actually DID kill Aug and Juls, JL. "OH wow great, see, I didn't kill therm bro." Whoa, before you get changed into your civies, Pinky told all, bye.

Jarifa, I am with you on this wash, rinse, repeat of this show. I hate it when we lollygag along for a hundred boring episodes and all the action is in the last hour or two. The last month of this show could have been sooo different if Ewww and Vic's house of cards had begun to fall weeks ago. Like, spend the first half or three quarters of the show with the bad guys proving how bad they are, and the last half or quarter letting the good guys get them.

This Gazelle chick is right up there with Osorio and his singing kids on my Do Not Watch list now.

Thanks everyone for sticking it out with us on this one, to the other writers AND the faithful patio crowd which made this a fun ride in spite of itself. On a lot of TNs you, or at least I, come away thinking, well, I learned something, or 'that just proves what I have suspected about humans all along', or something which is a keeper. The only thing I got from this one, I already knew, 'Don't have anything to do with liars.' They are just dishonest, and there is no way to sugar coat it.

Thank you, Urban, what a tour de force you last recap was! So much emotion to write through and you did it in your impeccable style.

Most satisfying moment for me: Vic shooting Eww - not because she deserved the honor, but because she did it without blinking, while he thought he'd be able to sweet talk her like he did Dario. Did he ever find out that SHE was the one to kill Augie after all? And was she really not aware of what he had done to Ren, or did she just use this as an excuse to shoot him?

I was glad for Mau&Ren and Elisa&Leo, not so much for Adri&Mario, since I feel she didn't really earn her happy ending. Same goes for Fer - especially since she got to keep her 10 mil after FINALLY realizing that Elisa was never her ebemeny (eye roll).

When Ren took the rug-rat to Sonia as she was getting out of jail, I hope she thought about packing some diapers and a change of clothes (for mother and son).

Thank you once again, Urban, it was quite a treat reading your recaps, hope to "see" you again soon.

Urban, the bad, the brutal, the beastly and the beautiful were brought vividly to life. Your masterful brushstrokes captured every color of the rainbow from glorious yellow to ominous black.

Your screen shots added another level of excellence.

How can one fathom the depths of depravity of a "human being" where murder and framing her daughter for murder were not even the most egregious form of atrocities committed. A mother who allowed her child, her CHILD to be molested is a new low of fiendishness. Was it surpassed by Eugenio killing his own child? No, Victoria killed Renata in every way possible. Psychologically and physically damaged, but not quite completely broken, Renata is proof that survival is possible despite unfathomable cruelty.

A few small mercies. Fernanda alive with her son, Sonia released and Renata given her child back (with sweet Mau smilingly looking on),Mario and Adri's kiss (yes Blue Lass I'm at their table :)). AND, "Seeing poor maligned Piedad accepted into this crowd" was perfect Kirby and yes, very heartwarming.

The wedding moved me not even though I still love Leo. When I saw Renata in the white veil I was thrilled! Another red herring although for the first time I have real hope for them.

I have to admit, I was disappointed in the finale. I feel rather empty - it's hard to explain. I fully expected a crazy, flipping everything on its head ending. But, the truth was there all along - I chose just not to accept it.

Too many loose threads. We were robbed of seeing Vicky in prison. Why? I wouldn't have minded seeing her imperiousness Same for Cris. And I wouldn't have minded seeing Eugenio handling prison life. Where was Tere??

Jarifa, I also thought the performances were stellar. Agree that this was too long and would have benefited from shortening. Insightful comment on the way the filming was done.

I will have more to say but first things first. To Urban, Jardinera, Adriana, Kirby, RgvChick and Blue Lass, congratulations and thank you. You brought this all to life, day after day, week after week. Magical and moving all! Your insights, humor combined with your time and effort are so appreciated!!

The recaps soared - every single day.

Diana

I wouldn't have minded seeing (Vicky's) imperiousness brought down a notch or two.

Diana

Mil gracias, UA; no one could have handled this as masterfully as you. And your screencaps were amazing, as always -- especially the one with Renata pointing the gun at her own head. Susana Gonzalez OWNED this show.

ITA with everyone who thought this show ran way too long, and in circles. I do like a happy ending, though -- for the good guys, of course. And appropriate punishments for the baddies. On that score, I'm reasonably satisfied as long as something bad happened to Fabricio. He just kind of dematerialized, so I'll assume he's in jail.

Diana, welcome to the Mardriana table! I'll pour you a tiny drink. After all, we'll be on our way to another patio soon, and we'll probably have to drive. BTW, Mau did say that Renata will have her own veil soon, so yay!

This was yeoman's work, Recapping Team, and everyone really went out swinging. Thanks for the memories.

Outstanding, UA, thank you! And to you, my fellow recappers, and patio peeps, MIL GRACIAS for making this a much better experience that the show itself called for. Yes, a bit stretched out...ok, ok, A LOT stretched out...but as others have stated the performances were impressive...Susana G's really was brilliant, she deserves an award. Yes, Blue Lass Susana OWNED the show

Jarifa, ditto on what Diana said about your insight on the filming...profound! I have to commend the female actresses for being "shown at their most unattractive."

Kirby, I was totally surprised that the writers remembered to wrap up "Pinky!" And SO glad JLow didn't get away with that one.

The writers also came full circle with the stolen art which had also been left by the wayside. My only question is: If Vic had it all this time, how did Fer get one of the pieces to give to Sonia?

AdrianaN, "Most satisfying moment for me: Vic shooting Eww" YESSS! for me too! Though that first shot should have been a bit higher and toward the center (wink, wink) LOL

Diana, I'm so glad you and Kirby brought up Piedad; poor woman has no one left. If I had my druthers, Majo wouldn't have lost the baby; Piedad would at least have a small piece of Dario to dote after.

And speaking (writing) of Dario, he was a criminal, but deep down, he had a big heart and good sense. I really admired him for acknowledging that he could never be the man Majo deserves. He actually turned out to be one of the few characters I liked. And cleaned up in a suit...well just RAWWRR!!

Diana, "When I saw Renata in the white veil I was thrilled! Another red herring although for the first time I have real hope for them." I was fooled too! And how wonderful that they ended up together; I'm actually happier for them than I am for Leo and Elisa!

RGV. Me too, about Dario. He was a criminal, true, and we can make all kinds of excuses for him, Daddy Rug, etc. but he did most of it as an adult. His choice, everything notwithstanding. And in spite of all that, I mourned his passing

And I too think he did Majo a favor getting himself killed off in his lifelong quest for which he discovered he actually did not have the stomach. After ALL this wrangling around, he could not pull the trigger. Screwed up young man, and deep down had a lot of sweet Piedad down in there wanting to bubble to the top.

I hopeo we can take it that seeing Mau and Ren return Sonia's baby means that Ren has sort of maybe turned the corner. In her world, recent events are almost a breath of fresh air compared to her tortured past.

Every time one of these TNs which I have followed in depth ends, I kinda have that feeling I had finishing high school, and then college, like, "Whew! Wait, what do I do now?"

Thanks for doing this finale, Urban. It takes a lot of free time to do this. You truly did it justice.

"Both jaws dropped like those of newly caught fish." LOL, they did, too!

"She kneecapped him." -Seeing Victoria do this, yup! The best part of this ending, not to mention learning that he'd become a quadriplegic. Great justice.
Dario, yup, had to die. He was such a rotten choice for Majo.
Thirties' outfit for bride and groom? Blech. Anyway, most of the loose ends that counted were tied up rather nicely.

Hope to see you recapping again soon. Thanks!

Jardinera654

Thanks to everyone for your comments and synopses. I really enjoyed reading them. It made this novella much better to watch! LindaK

Gracias, amigos. This series was a challenge and mostly because of the pacing. It makes me long for the classic series with the longer scenes.

Despite that the cast did an excellent job with kudos to Susanna Gonzales (Renata) and Ivan Arana (Dario). I hope we see more of him soon. What a performance, especially in these late episodes.

The composers did a great job with the music. The suspense music was particularly strong and well-edited into the scenes.

So happy that this wasn't sliced and diced. It could have been a little shorter, but I guess Televisa mostly likes them this length.

Wish we could have seen Victoria behind bars.

Renata's recovery looked a but rushed, but we can tell ourselves that she feels safe now.

RgvChick, yes, I am at the Dario table with you and Kirby.

We saw the person he could have been, should have been in the last scenes with Majo. The only thing stronger than his thirst for vengeance was his yearning for some sign of his father's affection. Really tragic.

I have hope that Renata "turned the corner" as well Kirby. "Renata's recovery looked a but rushed, but we can tell ourselves that she feels safe now" was lovely and comforting Urban.

It's been an honor to be part of this intelligent, supportive and insightful group.

Diana

Urban, thank you so much for this finale recap with all those carefully chosen photos and for all the recaps you provided .

Thanks also to all the recappers for your time, talent, and effort.

These recaps and comments were rays of sunshine in our current reality.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a traditional turnovers ending with happy endings for the good and great, big, old anvils for the evil.

I had a soft spot in my heart for Dario Just like I used to have
For some of teens I taught who came from bad home situations . HOwever, he seemed too damaged to survive. Our tragic figure . I thought Mojo bounced back too fast . People grieve a long time when they lose their soulmates. .....maybe forever. Grief is the price you
Pay for loving and for being loved.

I am happy Ren got Mau and has her dear sisters and that she gave the baby to Sonia who finally caught a break. Did that baby ever get a name ? Well, it's probab!y Marcelo and certainly not Eugenio .

Seeing Ren with the veil on made me think that hers was the wedding we were going to, but I questioned why she chose those huge ,green earrings . Surprise ! It's Leo and Els big day .

KIrby, I didn't realize that Ter wasn't at the wedding , but I was happy to see Sara and Piedad.

More later.

Muchas gracias Urban for this fantastic finale recap!
Also my thanks to all of the recappers for your talent and excellent work making this telenovela enjoyable.
Thank goodness there was a happy ending for those deserving and jail time or worse for the evil ones!
The ending I had hoped for Renata, Mauricio, Sonia and baby came to be! I did not see a happy future for Majo and Dario so was not surprised by his demise. Relieved to see that all of the evil ones got their anvils!

So.... who's moving on to the next 9pm show?

I kind of think Renata's recovery was not that far fetched for a novela. Her 2 main tormentors behind bars, surrounded by love and support, on the right medication... and 6 months have passed. She was already doing better with the doc Elisa had found for her when Eww and Icky started promising her Sonia's baby.

I didn't see Majo all that well, I think she was happy for her sister and trying to show her support.
I believe both sisters still fought their inner démons, but they could put it all aside for Elisa's big day. I loved the fact that they escorted her to the alter, really brought home the reality of how much their parents had wronged them.

Susanlynn, I watched the 2 first episodes of the new one, they are available on the Televisa site after they air, and the story is good. I was waiting for it to start airing on Uni, but not sure I'm in for the long run, because I don't like Soto all that much.

Ya know, Sara is still pretty spunky for a gramma age gal. She has Clara there. Since Sonia's Mom appears to have been abducted by aliens, why not just put Sonia and Marc-Up in there too. Having a baby and new Mom in the house will keep Sara young and she will not die of loneliness. On her current course Clara may have a bit of trouble starting a family, but the instincts are in there somewhere nonetheless.

Those girls could be pretty happy for a while like that. I'll email Sara. :-)

Thank you so much, Urban, for your wonderful recap and you REALLY went all out with the screen caps! Excellent choices for screen caps too!

Thank you so much to all the recappers for this show, you all are fantastic!

I was disappointed that Dario died, but at the same time, felt like it was inevitable. I was rooting for him, but I wondered how things would work out with his criminal past. Honestly, I was resigned to the high possibility he wouldn't make it, so . . . but it was still a disappointment.

I'm REALLY happy that Mauricio remained unscathed (one of the few really "purely good" people in this story) and has his happy ending with Renata. And I'm so glad that Renata is okay! So glad! I always feared that either they'd write Mauricio out of the story or somehow he'd be a victim somehow. So what a relief that his story ends well.

Also, I smiled a lot when Mario finally got his girl, Adriana. I like Adriana too, but my smiles were mostly for Mario, who while a little dumb sometimes, was always one of the good guys. Why Adriana fell for that dusty Fidel Castro-lookalike, I'll never know. Mario isn't classic galán material, but as you say, Urban, he is honorable.

Glad that they tied up that loose end about who killed Teresa's lover. We all assumed it was JL but it needed to be confirmed.

I didn't expect that Victoria would be the killer, but of course it fits. She's so cold. And Ewwww, honestly I wished worse for him, but his end is fitting enough, I suppose.

Thank you again for your fabulous recap, Urban!

Thank you so much, UA! And thank you also to the rest of the recappers!

A lot to unpack with this finale but I really enjoyed it. Superb performances by Susana G and Ivan A. I’d definitely like to see Ivan in more telenovelas. I was unfamiliar with him before this.

Once again Giselle created a character that was truly a terrible mother. It would definitely be a shock to anyone to come upon a dead loved one like Renata did but the fact that Victoria put the gun in Renata’s hand while Ren was unconscious was despicable. She put two of her three daughters through so much trauma because obviously Majo was kidnapped because of the missing art pieces and Victoria had them the whole time.

I was mostly satisfied with Eugenio’s ending. I guess I expected Victoria to be the one to attempt to kill him but a part of me almost wishes it had been someone else. And Fabricio got what was coming to him as well. It was nice to see Elisa let Fernanda keep the money.

I liked how we were teased with supposedly Renata being the bride but the veil wasn’t even used by Elisa in the end.

I don’t know if I’ll watch the new telenovela but maybe I might.

I was sorry not to see Fab behind bars, although it would have more fun if Dario had stayed alive to torture him. But better for Majo that Dario should go. She sure wasn't going to get better with him around. Vic, however, is probably running the prison by now, and all of Eugenio's businesses from there. She is just cold enough to do it.

But I was most shocked that they remember Reynaldo! I thought for sure his case went by the wayside. And Sonia survived! She must have some of those bodyguard ninja maids as guardian angels. Too bad she never found out where Eu was keeping her mother. oh well. Piedad is available for a replacement. Someone who knows Eugenio's bloodline needs to be there to keep a close eye on that baby.

And Sara is a fine replacement for Nieves. Clara mentions being gay and not a word of reproachment from Sara. But now Juanito needs a father figure since we're paring everyone up. Wonder if that accountant is still around?

I watched the show before the finale . The actress playing Sara looked so much younger with dark hair and jazzy glasses, and the actor playing Eww had his hair slicked back .

Ivan could play galans . I would like to see him play a good guy. The snarling , born to be bad bravado , and crazy ,cruel eyes were getting old.

Gracias, amigos, for all your comments. Special thanks to the rest of the team for this series: Jardinera, RGV Chick, Kirby, Blue Lass, Adriana Noel, you all did great work on this difficult story.

I have the feeling that this Justice-Triumphs ending was under pressure from fans who probably hated the endings of past works by this producer and a few others. When I think of how Catalina Creel got away with so much at the end of the short version of Cuna de Lobos I envisioned viewers sending some very nasty e-mails. We also needed an ending like this during these difficult times.

For the time being I will contribute to the Daytime threads for Quererlo Todo with its traditional architecture, beautiful horses, and a good padre being chased by the wife and daughter of the corrupt mayor. The saloon even has the old-fashioned swinging doors. I will start watching the new series at 8.

Urban, I agree that we got this happy ending because we all need something happy right now

.

Now that was a good finale. You'd like for your finallys to have a happy ending. This one did. Kinda.

Thank you Urban. You and the other
Recappers done phenomenal job.
Your recaps were better than the actual episodes. I'll admit it was because I knew what was being said.
And because of the recappers. Y'all
Rock.
Now heres my comment. Did they have to kill off the good son? Now he was Not perfect. He done bad stuff. But He didn't like it. And He had a good heart. Got it from his mom. Ewwgy Didnt have a heart, just a black rock in his chest. Thats an insult to rocks."I'll always love my star"
That was sweet. And then they let us see what their happiness would have looked like. That Kid was full of energy he was jumpin all the way to his momma. Ok movin on.

Stupid fab. The dumb son. I thought for sure he would come and do Good stuff but he turned out to be just as coldblooded like his coldblooded
Dad. "He said you are my son, we are Together now". That didnt work out at all. He was gonna leave fer in the pantry to get blown up in the house. Stupid, they still didnt get the money.

So vicious did all of that crap to protect her family. So she framed renata and druged her up since she was a child to protect her. What do
Ya bet he probly had his way with her while she was doped up. All She did was deliever her family over to
The devil. After she married him. It got worst.
You gotta be dead inside to do that
To your child. Wiped her prints off and put the gun in ren's hand. Sick
Bitch. I thought that was so so so deserving of what she did to ewgy. A bullet to the knee cap, cut off his balance, and another bullet to the shoulder and another one to the gut. Cuz hes a gutless piece of crap. The one to the gut must have went to his spine cuz he is crooked paralyzed.
Cant move at all. Hes in a hell of his own making. I like his anvil. It was Taylor made just for him. I wish they had shown fabidoodoo in
His Jail cell. Smirk gone.
I'm glad jaunito got to have his mom alive and well and so does the
Son of Sonia. Im Also glad she got sprung from jail. I knew ren would do the right thing.

Mauricio cleans up well. Very well.
Quite handsome. He looked like new money. I thought for sure it was he and renata getting hitched. That's another tn.

What a sorry cuss jl turned out to be, He deserved that anvil.
Look at ewgy going to prison in his own chauffeured wheelchair. He look
Just like his sorry life.

So the happy couple gets married and hopefully lives happily ever after. After Covid-19.
Thank you Urban, AdrianaN, BlueLass
The dynamic duo Kirbo n RGV Chicky
I know I'm missing some, whoever you are thank you. Maybe we will read each other on the next one.

Thank you all.

Ps, whose Mr Hammet and Wilma?

Jardinera thank you for your recaps
Girl. How could I not remember that
Unique name. You and the others made this saga bearable. Again just
Thank you all.
I saw some of that pre-grand finale
Sounds like they almost didnt start
Filming again because of covid.
Someone was even saying they were
Afraid to even do their parts for fear of contracting covid. But they did and they finished. Very good acting under the circumstances.

I saw the actress that played sara,
Her hair is so beautiful. And the actor that played eugenio... I was
Shocked to see his hair combed back too. That guy that was leo has
Beautiful black curly hair. Lovely
People.

Kirby: Big question is whether Clara & Majo remained "friends" & based on Clara's body language at the wedding: she's got feelings for Majo.
