La Herencia, #13, Friday 07/29/22, Sins of the father, mother and everyone in between
Sara asks Juan what does he want from her (Isn’t it obvious by now?). Sleepy eyed, aka sexy Juan answer that he wants her, he can no longer live without her, she’s become too important for him. Close up of the lips… He asks her never to leave him, she wants him by her side, too… Then Juan adds he wants her close … during the Congres (WTF). I don’t know if Sara is turned on or letdown by this, but she still smiles – regardless, when Juan approaches to kiss her (or smell her, seeing how these two operate), she says no, this is not just about the two of them, many more people are involved.
Lucas reproaches Jess all her lies, he’s no
fool and can see how she’s taking advantage of their friendship. Jess insists
it’s just for a little while. Bryan arrives to say he doesn’t agree with the
plan, either, and they both confront Jessica, especially when she says they’d
have to play pretend for several months. Alondra shows up to tell Bryan that Jess
is really going out with Lucas. Rosa arrives, too, stopping all conversation.
Dante explains to Deb his master plan: he was the one who convinced Don Seve to leave everything to charity if one of the kids left the
house. All they
have to do now is convince each and every one of the Del Montes to give up on
their part of the inheritance, since all the charities mentioned in the will
are made up – that’s how they’ll end up with all the old man’s fortune. Deb
points out that the charities are on Dante’s name, so she asks to be a partner,
make sure she’s not left penniless. Dante is willing to do that when Deb proves
her worth, by convincing one Del Monte to leave the house. Deb would like to start with either Mateo or
Simon, they’re both insufferable. For now they are in agreement, but no more
lies, Deb warns Dante, or else!
The owner of Adela’s rental wants her to
leave, even after Prospero insists there is no need to throw her out. Augie
actually kneels, begging the owner not to it and Prospi offers to pay all their
debt. Salvador intervenes, too, saying Adela is very special to him… and to
everyone else, of course. But the owner doesn’t budge. Everyone promises to
help Adela get another place.
At the company, Pedro warns Juli about leaving Sara and
Juan alone. She tries not to make a big deal of it, but Pedro pushes her. Juli
says many women have tried to win Juan over, Pedro says Sara is different. Juli
insists she will take care of this on her own, she doesn’t want anyone’s help.
Juan and Sara talk about their many responsibilities…
while holding hands. Simon arrives as they are both talking business and Juan
asks him to solve the issue of the gender pay gap in the company. Of course
Simon says they are very fair, Sara insists she has different information.
Simon accuses her of trying to ruin his reputation, everyone is getting the pay
they deserve. Then he accuses Sara of being just like her mother and goes into
a rant about the many faults of Deb – especially that time when she asked their
mother to divorce Severiano so she could marry him instead. And she almost
killed her, too, provoking her an embolism. He saw everything, even if he was
just a child. Juan says that the parents’ sins can’t be held against their
children, which infuriates Simon even more (I’d say he’s on the verge of an
embolsm himself). Juan reminds Simon his job is to protect their unity as a
family, but Simon doesn’t consider Sara family, especially not after what Deb
has done to their mother. Then he storms out!
Now at the ranch, Alondra is questioning
how come Jess and Lucas have become novios all of a sudden. Rosa says there is
no mystery, their friendship just turned into love. Then she gets a pain in her
neck, but Alondra wants to leave. Lucas tells her their project has to be
postponed for now.
Sara tells Juan she feels very bad for
everything that Deb has done to his family, but she can’t change the past. Juan
understands Simon, but he also understands Sara. She says she’s done accepting
all the insults like a punishment – she no longer wants to be their family, she
finally gets they will never love her.
Modesto comes to see if Cornelio is OK.
Salvador accuses him of siding with the Del Monte again and Cornelio adds that
Pedro wanted to kill him. Modesto protests, which upsets his son even more, it’s
obvious he’s more worried for the Del Monte, who see him like a servant. He is
his son but he has been a sorry excuse of a father. Modesto punches Cornelio, but them immediately apologizes, while Salvador asks
Paloma to take Tadeo away. Modesto says he’s done his best, just like Salvador,
to raise him and Paloma. Salvador confirms all his struggle, and they both remind
Cornelio that Don Severiano offered to pay for his studies, too, but he preferred
to party instead, get drunk and wait for his father and uncle to come and
rescue him. Cornelio wants his father to
leave the ranch, but Modesto promised to protect the brothers. He adds that he’s
loyal to the Del Monte, but he loves him. Modesto leaves crying
and Cornelio is crying, too.
Lucas thinks they should go to the hospital
because Rosa is still hurting, but Jess suggests they can go see Don Augusto,
who is very good at these things. But Rosa won’t hear of it, so they eventually
go see a doctor.
Pedro and Dante talk about their failed attempt
against Cornelio. Pedro is upset, but Dante thinks they shouldn’t talk this in
the office and he warns Pedro to stay away from Cornelio, avoid any possible
suspicions. What else, Dante asks and Pedro says he wants to get Juan out of
the company. Dante smiles.
Reunion time: Sara has made a list of providers
who can offer them less expensive fertilizer for the same quality, saving them
about 30%. She’s worked together with Julieta’s team, who agrees that Sara’s solution
is correct, but has to warn them that the avocados might reject the new product
all the same. Juan asks what the odds of that happening are and Juli says they
are indeed very low, but they exist. Pedro, continuing to kiss Sara’s shinny
behind, claps to her suggestion and gives a positive vote. Juan asks Sara if
she has made a risk analysis and of course she has and the benefice far
surpasses the risk – besides, she is taking responsibility for the
outcome. Oyyye! Juan agrees to the change.
Mateo is still in his bed when Deb arrives
to offer him a drink. He tries to throw her out, but he can’t resists the
bottle of wine she holds, even if he tries to. She had to take one out of her
reserve, because she couldn’t find one drop of alcohol in the entire house. She
herself has tried to commit suicide in the past, and she promised herself to
help the people who suffer like she did. He has to live the way he wants, not
allow others to tell him what to do. Then she goes away, leaving him the
bottle.
Modesto is roaming the streets, crying. He’s
not feeling too great, but Bertha(!) is there to check up on him. She advises
him to use a cane if he has trouble walking (lol), Modesto is vexed, doesn’t
agree when she calls him old.
Pedro offers to take Sara to Bea’s place,
while Juli asks a very unwilling Juan to go have dinner together. Juli tells
Sara they can sign the contract with the new providers the next day, she has
all the info in her office.
Lucas and the girls have brought Rosa home
and she might have a bad neck, but her voice is as strong as ever, as she calls
for Bertha. Augusto arrives to talk to Rosa about the shop, he’s in no mood to
help her. Rosa wants to throw him out, and Augie will leave, but first he
mentions Jess and Bryan being together. Rosa corrects him, Augie warns her not
to mess with his family again. And he absolutely refuses to help with the neck
pain.
Augie leaves just as Bertha arrives and
starts massaging Rosa’s neck, who immediately gets better. Bertha promises to correct
all the crippled bones existing in this family. lol
Pedro tells Dante he has a plan to make
Juan fail – the investors have to lose confidence in him, make him have to
quit. Dante asks Pedro what’s in it for him? Pedro says he will give him
Refugio Santa Catalina in exchange… Dante is interested, but how could he give
him that, when Don Seve forbade it. Yeah, but he’s dead, Pedro says, so think
about it! Dante needs more than an empty promise, so Pedro says first Dante
needs to win his trust again, after today’s bad luck.
Juan takes out his childhood box,
remembering another moment from the past, this time only his mother’s nasty
voice. Sara arrives and Juan drops a photo, which she picks up. It’s of Pedro and
him, with their real mother. Sara says their past decisions brought them to
where they are today and she hopes to get the chance to know about the road
he had to take to get where he is now.
Salvador has come to talk to Modesto about
his son. He’s worried he will do something stupid, and reminds Modesto he never
agreed with him working in this house. And now his son is suffering because of
this family, too. For once he needs to put his real family first.
Later Juan arrives and sees that Modesto is
wiping. He tells him about his confrontation with Cornelio and his reproaches. Juan
says he is like a second father to them, but Modesto thinks he has to leave the
house. Juan says they’d be ruined without him, but Modesto says he’s only a
servant, he likes what he does, but he can’t do it anymore. Juan asks Modesto
some time, let him talk to Pedro first. Modesto agrees, but he doesn’t have
much faith in Juan’s chances. Then Juan tells Modesto that Sara saw a photo of
his bio mom. Modesto thinks he should throw that photo away, but Juan can’t, it’s
part of his past and his childhood. Modesto says thank God you ended up in a
good family.
Pedro has escorted Sara to Bea’s house and
she tries to get rid of him, but he says he’s always going to be available for
her. Sara asks what his plans with Tadeo, his son, are. And what does he feel
for Bea. Pedro says Bea came to him telling him about her Cornelio problems. He
did give her the love she was lacking at home, but he couldn’t help that she
fell in love with him. He’s no womanizer, he hasn’t found the love of his life,
yet, but what he feels for Tadeo is real. He loved him from the first moment he
found out he was his son. And he always wonders if he’s doing right by his son,
the best thing that has ever happened to him. Pedro seems to actually mean what
he’s saying, so much so that he makes Sara cry.
Juan is knocking on Mateo’s door, he and
Lucas find him almost passed out on the floor. Juan remembers another moment
when he found his brother passed out like this. Back to present time, Juan asks
who gave him the bottle. Mateo rambles, but at one point he accuses Juan of
having stolen Julieta’s love from him.

Also thanks mentioning the continued close-ups of Sara’s lips. All I can say is once was okay for the lip shot but now it makes the production look amateurish.
Glad to know what Dante’s plan is.
Not glad that Juan okayed the new fertilizer. I am afraid that is going to be an issue in spite of Sara’s risk assessment. She has no idea of what the real risks are and neither does Juan.
Not surprised that Deb didn’t miss a step in trying to destroy Mateo.
Tired of the toxic masculinity and sad ineffective old men.
Berta and Modesto? They have to pair her up with somebody.
Well, it is back to shark programming for the rest of the weekend but I have to admit this novela is loaded with sharks and the location is land-locked!
All inheritances are bust if one of the heirs leaves? That is too harsh. I think in the US this would be challenged and defeated. You can't force family togetherness any more than you can force -- or guilt-trip -- anyone into loving you.
Julieta is making a fool of herself about Juan.
Based on some of the facial expressions I think Rosa is faking her pain in this episode.
Who is the father of Adele's sons?
More later.
Do we know nothing about Cornelio's mother?
UA: I'm also interested to finding more information about Cornelio's mother.
Jarifa: Mary Poppins 2.0 & Modesto will probably end up together.
“Bertha promises to correct all the crippled bones existing in this family”. As we all know, promises are made to be broken and Bertha is about 10 years too late.
“…but no more lies, Deb warns Dante, or else!” Or else what, vile woman? Never mind, I fear we will find out before the end. I have to admit Deb’s tempting Mateo with the wine was well thought out, and quite cruel, leaving it on the table where she knew he couldn’t reach it. As soon as we saw the first saliva drops, we knew he would cave.
Seeing the hand on Modesto’s shoulder as he leaned against the building sparked my immediate interest. Sadly, while sparks did fly with Bertha, but they were of an annoyed, rather than romantic nature.
I was shocked seeing the picture of Juan Pedro and their “mother”. She actually seemed to be smiling and from what we saw, wondered where and when that was taken.
Modesto slapping Cornelio was troubling. “Modesto promised to protect the brothers. He adds that he’s loyal to the Del Monte, but he loves him. Modesto leaves crying and Cornelio is crying, too”. Modesto, the fellas are adults now, they can take care of themselves and your blood son is in dire trouble. Salvador has this one right.
The camera angle was askew, showing how Rosa saw her surrounding scene with her crooked neck. Well done.
Urban, I completely agree that having only one heir (of thousands) leave is extremely “harsh” as you noted. These men are immature unfortunately and that could happen at any given moment.
“it is back to shark programming for the rest of the weekend but I have to admit this novela is loaded with sharks and the location is land-locked!” made me smile away Jarifa!! Same predators, different scenery. Wonderful. 😊
Adriana, reading your wonderful recap was a perfect way to begin the day. Thank you!
Diana
Deb is a demon. I could hardly stand watching that scene of her in Mateo's bedroom tantalizing and taunting poor, immobilized Mateo with that bottle of wine, slowly pouring it into the glass. She is a truly evil force. Ugh. I dont like Mateo, but that was cruel and awful.
Then, we have biz savvy Sara giving a fertilizer power point presentation . I have a friend from high school who grew up on a dairy farm and then went on to get a degree in agriculture and become a college professor. I wonder if he gave fertilizer power point presentations. Knowing him well, I bet he did. Pedro is such a smart***, applauding and saying " Muy bien" With that big bad wolf grin.
Modesto and Bertha...watch the introduction to the show.
Heatwave continues .
I agree, Urban, it is harsh that even if one of the heirs leaves, they don't get the inheritance.
So, Deb decided to make Mateo leave? Interesting. Knowing his alcoholism, he is an easy target. But this is a telenovela, there's no way the 4 + 1 siblings won't get the inheritance. (By the way, it still creeps me out a bit that Sara and Juan will end up together. They're step-siblings. Okay, STEP-siblings but still step-SIBLINGS.) I wish she tried to kick out Pedro, I hate him more than Mateo.
I have to wonder why the landlord is so determined to put Adela out. I really think Deb is behind it. And what she did to Mateo was just evil. If Sara had any sense she’d have figured out her mother by now.
I’m no businesswoman but 30 % lower for the same quality has got to be too good to be true. I thin the company will suffer and Sara will be blamed. Making Julia right!
Yes, in the introduction Bertha is with Modesto. It will be interesting to see how that comes about.
As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for. Sara wanted a family and now she has a bunch of brothers she’d be better off without.
Liz
I kept wondering why Sara doesn't just take her blouse off? Both at the office and out?
Based on the music, Berta and Modesto have not seen the last of each other. ;-)
I truly hate that Modesto hit Cornelio. Now it makes me wonder if he did that to Cornelio often when he was growing up, and if that's why Cornelio thinks it's okay to hit his wife.
Deb's move to get Mateo drunk was a wicked move, but Mateo was going to get drunk again sooner or later. The sooner he hits his bottom, the sooner he will want to seriously quit drinking and get help.
Will Pedro somehow sabotage the new fertilizer?
Hopefully by Monday, Sara will button her blouse up to cover her bra. Yes, this is very annoying to me. She never heard of Dress For Success? lol
Jarifa - Yes! This is Shark Week! It was on one of the TV screens at the pizza place we went to last night. Fast Times At Ridgemont High was playing on another screen. That brought back memories. Sean Penn was a hoot in it. lol
Small detail: I think I made a mistake when writing about the conditions of the will - I meant to say that in case one of the heirs leaves the house, that person loses the inheritance, not everyone else. It would have been more fun, though...:))

Adriana, yes, it would be more fun this way. It makes more sense that the one who leaves loses her/his part of the will though.
Jarifa, wow. Only 13 episodes in and we have so many things on our bingo cards already!
"I truly hate that Modesto hit Cornelio. Now it makes me wonder if he did that to Cornelio often when he was growing up, and if that's why Cornelio thinks it's okay to hit his wife". doris, well said and I pondered the same possibility. But after really thinking about it, the way Modesto stared at his hand after he hit his son, I saw shock and regret. As Cornelio's face mirrored surprise as well, I think this was a one time occurrence, shocking nevertheless. I had seen the preview as well and am looking forward to seeing Modesto and Bertha. The actor had great chemistry with Michelle Gonzalez in Papa a toda madre and am hopeful for even more heat here.
Jarifa, I keep thinking about your comment about Juan approving Sara's preferred fertilizer -"She has no idea of what the real risks are and neither does Juan." This was their first co-decision and may well have been bad moves on both their parts.
Urban, I'm looking forward to the Dante/Deb battle of power. Like you, I was shocked he told her his plan.
Weirdo, I also wish Deb had tried to evict Pedro. He is cunningly dangerous and Mateo is well, just plainly pathetic.
It occurred to me that I've said little about the lead characters in this and other recent TNs, even though Suzanna Gonzalez and Michelle Renaud are favoerites of mine. The secodary stories just seem more interesting and engaging.
Adriana, thank you for clearing up the inheritance issue!
Diana
On the fertilizer, they should try out the new stuff only on a few avocado trees. Why risk the whole crop.
These business meetings are hilarious. Sara asks about equal pay for women and Simon counters that her mom's a tramp and she, Sara, should leave. Yep, that's addressing the issue alright.
Poor Mateo. I wonder if he knows that both his bio-parents were alcoholic. If he can't leave the mansion, they've got enough dough to get a live-in drug counselor.
I wonder if Mateo even knows who his bio parents are, Simon said at one point that both he and Mateo are in the dark about their bio donors...Maybe that's just somethibg Seve confided to only a few people he trusted?
In the US when foster parents get kids they often don't know everything about the family of origin. I am not sure of the motive for this. I am also under the impression that adoptive parents of these children often know less than the foster ones. They may know only the medical stuff that may affect the children's futures.
Not sure how much this matters, but did Severiano adopt his sons through any legal system or did he just take them and deal with that later? Was Dante involved in any of that?
Unless the boys' flashbacks are completely delusional Severiano was a good father to them. He encouraged their interests and praised them for their achievements. He provided their material comforts. Also, Catalina was a good mother.
BTW, for those who don't remember or didn't watch PASL Sergio Basanez (Dante) played a lawyer in that series, which was supposedly renewed for a 3rd season although I don't know how they will do this with the actors as scattered as they are now.
Juan just is not convincing in his attraction to Sara. I'm not seeing much beyond his wooden, stilted words and actions. An eighth grader with his first crush would be more convincing. Sara is milquetoast- like, also.
Now, if Pedro weren't so bad, I'd prefer him with Sara. He'd make her toes curl!
Doris, maybe the avocado trees will be poisoned by the new fertilizer. That'll help fill your bingo card! I wouldn't be surprised if Dante bribes the new supplier to covertly substitute something toxic for the fertilizer.
What was that novela about a dairy that sent out (sabotaged) bad milk?
The scene with Deb giving Mateo alcohol made me sick. She is evil, evil.
Simon, with his psych degree - omg - he seriously needs a lot of therapy himself. His vitriol is getting tiresome.
Lucas is the best;a veterinarian and wanting to help people with his equine therapy. Why does the family dismiss him?
Beth S
Was that MEPS? I remember watching a telenovela where a dairy was the business.
Beth --- OOoh, poisoning the avocado trees, there's an idea! I hope that will not happen, as it would affect all the employees and their job security.
There is still time to develop the background of Mateo, Simón, and Lucas. Perhaps they were so young they have no memories of their birth mother or situation. There are still a lot of episodes to watch and only the writers know the twists and turns to be revealed.
Lucas is a cock-eyed optimist and needs to learn a few things. He's a sweet young man who needs to toughen up a bit.
Urban, what a stunning observation. I think you are onto something.
I hate to say this amigas but as much as I would like Pedro to be redeemed, I don't think it will happen. The good news is I'm mostly wrong so I'll hope the trend continues.
Diana
Susanlynn, everytime I see a flashback I have to wonder what happened to Pedro to get him to turn on his brother like this? Jealousy over Seve showing favoritism?
Urban, you are mentioning LQNPA, a novela who famously turned the villain into the hero because Jorge Salinas was that good. Maybe the same will happen with Pedro?
If not hopefully Televisa realizes what they have in Daniel Elbitar and give him a protagonico soon, we've had enough of Jose Ron, Gabriel Soto and Sebastian Rulli - Marcus Ornellas has proven to be a hit, it's obvious the viewers want new blood.
Sometimes , in this show, he gets a look on his face that makes me feel that deep down he has a heart and remembers Juan taking care of him and shielding him as the older brother . I hope he will turn on Dante and bond again with Juan. I, also, sometimes sense that he actually has true feelings for Sara. Maybe I have taught too many bad boys with good hearts. I'd like the writers to twist the usually storyline.
The fact he slept with Lorena's "bestie" in QE sealed Alonso's fate. Hot chef (didn't he dance too?) was the better and really only choice.
I think Gabe Soto has gotten some bad directorial advice (looking directly at you vino el amor). He was marvelous in La Verdad Occulta, Mi Marido tiene famili, Caer en tentación and of course Soltero :)
I agree that there have been many moments where I sympathize with Pedro, especially with such a traumatic childhood. But, I think there is already too much poison in his system. Again, I really, really hope I'm wrong.
Diana
It is evident that Juan is the good guy who should get the leading lady , but Juan just doesn't have that Galan spark. He actually seems more suited to bowed and buttoned up Juli than unbuttoned Sara. The Turkish dizis have very traditional galan leading men.
The casting departments for novelas need to take lessons from the Turkish
dizis. The actors I've seen can act, no wooden performances, and those soulful eyes! Those of you familiar with Burak and Engin should check out Yan Caman in Pajaro Soñador on Unimas. He is wonderful! The dizi is fun, not dark.
Jorge Salinas, come back!
