El Amor No Tiene Receta #16: Fake Evidence, a Deal Between Two Devils, and a Possible Fatal Error

Luna and Lupita were filling jars with ground coffee in the garden. Luna asked Lupita whether she thought her mother was looking for her and whether loved her. Lupita replied in the affirmative, saying she thought her mother could not stop thinking of her for a single second [She has no idea for what reason]. Luna told Lupita she always says such nice things and that she loved her.

Mauro told Mireya that all Ginebra could talk about was finding her daughter and that she had spoken with Paz. He asked if Paz or any other family member might have seen Samara. Mireya said no.

Esteban and Ginebra were still in the panic room. He thought it odd. Ginebra said her husband had it installed and knew a lot about weapons, but had never killed anyone. Esteban told him that his father taught him how to defend his family. She thanked him for saving her life. He said they had to find out who was behind this attack and to find her daughter. They had to reinforce security. He wondered whether the attackers were the ones who kidnapped her daughter.

Nandi showed Kenzo she could type, if rather slowly. She admitted she had learned this online when shopping for clothes on the internet. He said she could count on his help.

Jerónimo called Gala about what he had seen on her social media as her brothers played at fencing (with young tree branches) in the garden. She talked about being in a relationship with Salomón and him being a good guy with a lot of potential. Jerónimo asked her out but she said she would check her calendar and get back to him. When she ended the call he was in shock because he always did [Most of us think he's a jerk and he just proved us right]. She then looked at the food on the table, stopped grinning, and looked back at her brothers.

Kenzo asked if her hiring would be a problem for Paz' family and she said not to worry. [Eek; that means one less protector for Luna.] Nandi asked Kenzo about his children. He looked a little uncomfortable.

Fobo drove Elvira to the barrio. It would be an understatement to say she was horrified. \After bumping into Gema she went to the Robles house where Lupita was looking after Luna who was sitting at the kitchen table while drawing. Lupita closed the door in Elvira's face and ran back to put Luna and Cobija in Paz' bedroom with instructions to stay there and be quiet.

Paz was preparing lobsters while talking to Esteban on the phone. She told him she would keep an eye his kids. They came into the kitchen and asked about the security. Gala wondered if he had been attacked on the street again. Paz said he was alright and would tell them about everything when he got home. In his usual obnoxious way Bosco questioned the appropriateness of this and Paz asked why he hated her so much.

The detective we've seen before (Castro) was at the Nicoliti house. At least some of the attackers had been caught. Esteban complained about the police falling down on the job and if they had done their work they would not have been in danger. Ginebra said she had to know if these men had killed her husband and snatched her daughter. There was a line-up called [WHAF?] in front of Ginebra. She thought about how to turn this in her favor, then pointed to the dead man on the floor, asking Castro to remove his mask. She then said he was the man who had killed her husband.

Bosco pulled the Class Card again and tried to kick Paz out, saying to finish what she was cooking and get lost. Paz told him she did not deserve this treatment from him or his abuela. He said to do her job and stay out of what wasn't her business. Eder questioned him as to why he was so rude to Paz and he answered that he caught their father and Paz on the brink of a kiss. Gala and Eder looked at each other but said nothing.

In a dramatic fashion that caused Esteban to scrutinize, Ginebra accused these men of having kidnapped Samara. Esteban stepped into this, demanding they identify who sent them. Ginebra mentioned the anonymous note and demanded “What more do you want? You took away two people I loved. What more do you want?” She slapped the closest one and he said “Rubio is right. You are crazy.” Apparently, Rubio Regente Sacaplán had a rap sheet. Castro recognized this name and ordered that all the men be taken down to the station. Esteban was not satisfied, as they needed to be questioned about Samara. Castro said everything will be alright.

Lupita allowed Elvira to enter, telling her that Paz was not at home; she was at the mansion working. She tried to lead Elvira back out but was unsuccessful. Elvira was there to talk about Salomón and Gala. Mireya got home at that point and there was an argument. Luna opened the door to listen, then Cobija got loose and began sniffing Elvira's shoes to her horror. She behaved as though the dog was vermin. Fobo picked him up and held him with no problem as Mireya explained that the dog was healthy and clean.

Mauro was getting Vermin to take stuff out of some room in the house (?) Mauro rushed him while refusing to answer any questions.

A cop arrested Rubio outside near a wall with a huge mural.

Castro told Esteban the men he detained were en route to the station and also that his statement was needed. Castro had the address and a warrant. Esteban emphasized the need to find Ginebra's daughter. Out of their hearing Ginebra told Abdul this was not part of her plan. He answered that this got out of control and they will not do anything to compromise them. Mauro was in charge of strengthening their efforts.

Mauro and Vermin set up a room with photos on a wall, similar to what one would see in a police station. They placed some cell phones, a laptop computer, and a couple of wrapped parcels that looked like they held drugs. Both were wearing gloves.

Ginebra then played Damsel In Distress again in front of Esteban, claiming that her and Samara's lives were in danger. [Oscar-winning performance, indeed.] He embraced her, saying not to worry as we see the evil expression he didn't.

Lupita called Paz to tell her Elvira was there. Paz told her she could not allow Elvira to see Luna. Lupita told her it was time to tell Ginebra. Luna looked up at the sound of the Evil One's name as Paz told Lupita to do what she had to do. Lupita said that if they don't return the child to Ginebra they would be in deep trouble.

Paz ended the call. She and Gala talked about the problems. Gala told her she did not know Ginebra well, only that there had been a business deal once. Paz told her that she and Ginebra had something in common: the loss of a daughter.

Mireya defended Salomón to Elvira who was not accepting it, also saying that Salomón and Gala were of age to make their own decisions. Salomón arrived in time to face Elvira's usual snobbery and accusations of greed “like any good-looking barrio guys.” [This one earned a sideways glance from Fobo.] She offered Salomón cash to give up Gala. Mireya took it and tore it up in front of her, going on about its actual lack of worth. She then hustles Elvira and Fobo out. They did not stop to retrieve the torn banknotes. Salomón looked down at them with a tear in his eye. Mireya told him he was a good guy and a good son, then embraced him.

Mauro's and Vermin's set-up became a crime scene as Esteban saw photos of his family. Xes were drawn over photos of Berenice and Elikas. Ginebra said they had a common enemy. Esteban had to know why Rubio killed Berenice.

Masquerading as a lawyer Mauro paid Rubio a visit in lock-up and told him “You will say what I tell you to say or your wife and daughters will pay for your mistakes.” He took out a photo.

Fobo handed the DNA test results to Elvira. They proved that Ginebra was her missing daughter. She was shocked but it was impossible to tell whether she was happy or afraid. Or both.

Esteban was angry he could not see Rubio that day. Ginebra said she understood his feelings. He was unsure what he was going to say or do as this cost his family their happiness. When Paz came in from the kitchen he and Ginebra told her about the attack. Paz remembered Lupita's words and started to prepare Ginebra for news about Samara. Ginebra pulled the Damsel In Distress act again but Esteban left her to talk with Paz. She said “From your tone and your face it must be something very serious.”

Luna remembered being whacked on her hands with a belt as Pepa tripped over Cobija and spilled red paint on the couch. Lupita cried out “My couch” Lina cried and told Lupita about the memory. She also remembered nasty comments about her drawings. Lupita and Mireya hugged her as Pepa and Salomón watched in shock at these revelations.

Paz was about to tell Ginebra when she was saved by Lupita's phone call with the above information and her doubt that Ginebra loved the child. After ending the call Paz told Ginebra some BS about telling her support group and their willingness to help. Ginebra looked somewhat condescending.

Esteban's kids – especially Gala – were worried. Esteban told them he was close to identifying Berenice's killer. Bosco aggressively demanded to know Esteban told him to calm down; shortly he would be face to face with the culprit.

Mauro told Rubio he was to confess to all the crimes or his family would face a living hell. Rubio told him he and his sister were traitors. “My people would never have set foot on me.” Mauro laughed, saying “You are mistaken. I am very good at applying pressure. Every one of your subordinates will cooperate with me. Besides, you betrayed us. And if you happen to go out of line, even for a little while, your family and each of the people who have spoken to you will live in hell.” He then whispered “...and I will not need to kill them for that to happen. So you decide to cooperate and live or you refuse and I assure you or you are going to beg me on your knees to kill you.” He showed the photo again. Rubio looked defeated, as though he was about to cry. He agreed. [As evil a thing this was, I doubt many of us feel sorry for this creep.]

Kenzo showed Nandi the recreational area in the office, explaining that the company looked after its peeps. There was a ping pong table! She then told him that except for himself and Paz' family nobody had ever shown any faith in her. She had problems at every other job interview. She then told him she was trans. No reaction yet.

Ginebra told Esteban it was time for him to start living again [All the while lining him up to become her next victim]. He invited her to stay at his place during the investigation at her place. Ginebra told him that Paz got a place for her in her support group and said it was going to be hard to talk about this among strangers [She had better drink a lot of water to make enough crocodile tears.].

Paz was in the kitchen, thinking about what Lupita told her, followed by Ginebra's Damsel In Distress act for Esteban's benefit. She asked herself “Who is Ginebra in reality?” She then caught a culinary mistake before turning the blender on.

Lupita gave Luna some food. Luna was still upset at Elvira's reaction to Cobija. said she never wanted to leave the Roble house. Mireya and Lupita did their best to cheer her up. When she asked if they knre her mother Mireya told her that Paz was investigating this and soon they would know. Luna said she didn't want to leave. She wanted to be a Roble. She wanted to teach Cobija to behave because he didn't want to leave either. She did not remember why her mother had hit her. “Do you think I was bad? Was I a little mischievous and I was abandoned for that? ” Lupita and Mireya told her No and assured her that her memories were coming back in pieces hence her confusion and that she was one of them despite no blood connexion. They hugged her.

I think the possible fatal error was Mauro impersonating a lawyer without a disguise.

If Vermin fails to tell Paz who "Luna" is he cannot get redemption.

It will be interesting to see how Elvira will handle the revelation about Ginebra and what Ginebra will do about this. I personally don't think how she ended up in the orphanage will matter to her; she might blame Elvira for failing to take action.

Urban,

What a lovely picture.

Your recap was beautifully written; the time and care you spent crafting this was evident in every word.

To the detriment of the situation, being involved in the attack and seeing what he saw, Esteban has no reason to doubt Ginebra at this point.

Thank God Paz learned the truth about Ginebra's treatment of Luna before she spoke with her.

"Luna told Lupita she always says such nice things and that she loved her" showed what a loving, sensitive child she is. When Luna burst into tears thinking she was going to be physcially reprimanded my eyes filled with tears. That was impossible to watch.

I agree Vermin must tell Paz the truth and do so now.

It doesn't appear Elvira tried to find her daughter. Her father surely passed some time ago, did she just decide to leave things "as is"? Her regret does seem to weigh heavily on her but perhaps she didn't want to lose her family or place in society as she saw it.

Urban, thanks for a wonderful recap. I especially enjoyed your comments like "She had better drink a lot of water to make enough crocodile tears."

I got a kick out of Lupe telling Paz she would always be branch (ramo) of the Robles (oak) family.

Now what to do with Paz knowing that she has been a vicitm of child abuse. How can they trust the larger legal/social system to protect her when Ginebra has all the $$$ she needs to pay them all of?

Mireya sounded and looked like she was lying in her conversation with Mauro.

At least Rubio is cooling his heels in the slammer and isn't out and about in the neighborhood.

Now that Elvira has found out that Ginebra is her long lost daughter, maybe she will obsess about her and not Paz.

After Elvira complained about Salo being just a good-looking guy from the hood with no future, I started to wonder if Ginebra was the result of a dalliance of hers with some good looking guy from the hood with no future.

Ginebra's explanation of learning how to shoot by going hunting with her hubby Elías was laughable. Too bad she has Esteban so bamboozled.

Jarifa, Vermin needs to step in here. He has to tell Paz the truth ASAP. Then the battle cry of "DNA! DNA! DNA!" The test results need to happen before Ginebra finds out so she can't arrange for them to be faked.

Of course this will put Vermin in jeopardy, too, which probably means he will keep his mouth shut too long.

We were not told what Ginebra did regarding the baby's legal status after Mauro brought her from the hospital. The doctor who delivered Ginebra's natural child was bribed into silence. He is unlikely to come forward. Ginebra would be likely to have him killed before he could be found; she plans ahead.

Where did she hide all that cash while she was married to Elias?

We still don't know what happened to the money Mauro handed to Vermin 6 years ago.

The same question about Elvira occurred to me, too. It makes perfect sense.

Urban, yep, it is time for Vermin to step up but I fear as you do that he is going to ponder that decision much too long. Paz is going to hate him no matter what but then she could prosecute him. Is that what he is afraid of? He always could leave town and call her with the info.

Urban, thank you so much for that excellent detailed recap as our story unfolds more and more. You gave us every moment .

Jarifa , thank you for explaining Lupita's clever play in words oak branch ! You can tell that Luna has instant won over the entire Robles clsn, especially abuses Lupita.

So..Rubio was behind the attack , and now hos evil rule of the neighborhood might end . Please...no more chasing Mir down that alley and terrorizing her.

Fobofog doesn't get to say much , but he lets his face and body language do the talking . He picked up Dograbbit and held him gently . He must be a good soul .

The little actress is doing an amazing job. She seems so confident . I am very impressed.

Thank goodness Luna told Lupita that she remembered her mother hitting her hands and Lupita immediately called Paz. Yay, good guys . I know several people who work in child welfare. It isn't an easy job. Many burn out .

I am not going to like watching Gin slithering around Esteban and grabbing at him every chance she gets . p.s. Adair is beautiful ,but that severe hairstyle (wig) is not flattering .

Claudia continues to make me believe that Paz is golden hearted and kind . We need mire positive characters to balance the evildoers.

Can't wait to see what happens tonight . I am enjoying this show a lot . Great acting . Interesting storylines .
Susan

Thanks Urban, that was great. And so detailed.

I may be misreading, or misunderstanding, but I think Ginebra planned the attack but didn’t expect Esteban to get the upper hand. She blamed the dead guy for the murder of her husband and then the man(prisoner) said Rubio gave the orders. So Vermin and Mauro set up his place to look like he planned it all. I wonder if the police will realize he doesn’t have the brains for that. Anyway, maybe I misread and everyone thinks that also. But Vermin might be the next new guy they set up.

Liz

I would not doubt that for a moment, especially if Ginebra knows that he is Paz' ex and Samara's sperm donor.

Thanks, Urban for the terrific recap!

I agree that Elvira did little to find her daughter. How come she didn't search for the child? "Oh, ok, my dad took it away from me, alright, I guess I have to live without it?!" She's one of these people I can't be sorry for.

Like Rubio. Actions have consequences. He might be innocent for that crime, but he has committed so many without being caught.

I don't think Gin planned the attack because last episode she was alone with the thugs and she had a gun pointed on them, asking them who sent them. I was expecting her to start laughing along with them when they got upstairs, but since she acted in this way, I don't think she planned it.

Vermin doesn't deserve redemption, whatever he does, at least in my opinion. What is did is unforgivable.

I felt so sorry for Luna when she remembered her '"mom" hitting her. At least she has sweet Paz by her side.

Thank you Urban for the recap!! Sorry I'm late, I was dealing with a maintenance issue and I completely forgot to comment yesterday!!! Now, it's a little late but I wanted to say thanks for the recap!!! It's very helpful especially this week as I seem to have a focus issue. I'm not sure I would be following this without the recaps!

I sometimes need them for the same reason, especially when these get heavy on dialogue that delivers important details!

UA: Nice screencaps. I hope Paz gets her happily ever after soon.
