El amor no tiene receta, #34, Wednesday, "No love lost among cousins"

Ginebra can’t believe Mauro loves Samara, that recogida. She realizes she can’t kill her anymore (darn); she will have to make society think she is a loving mother. And of course she will use this opportunity to go against Paz, also, she “stole” her little girl and Esteban will despise her for that.

Gin wonders about what Samara might remember, she might ruin them. Mauro is afraid the Roble family suspect him, he even thinks Paz saved Sam from that attack a while back. Gin wonders why would Paz keep Sam hidden if she doesn’t know she’s her real mother. They both agree they need to come out smelling like roses out of this. And Gin is still set on marrying Esteban and steal everything from his family. This will be her revenge against Elvira, robbing her of everything she has. It was because of her that she had to sell her body and she had to kill.

Mauro thinks they need to stop Paz before she gets to marry Esteban and Gin is determined to do just that, she has become her mortal enemy.

Esteban is showing his kids how to milk a cow. Then it’s their turn to try and they all enjoy it. Esteban talks about country life not being easy, then shows them some farm animals. When they feed a horse Gala wants to film it, but Esteban says no, they need to live this moment just for themselves, know about their origins.

The abuelo still wants them gone, but he’s prepared them a nice meal in the meantime. Gala is still reluctant to eat, Eder loves the food almost as much as he loves Paz’ cooking. Porfirio notices how close she’s gotten to the family, Bosco says he and the abuela don’t like them.

The Roble are talking about the mess they are in. They wonder if Gin really wanted to harm her daughter. They speculate about everything that has happened, wonder about Mauro’s involvement and are still doubting Ginebra could be behind everything.

Speaking of the Evil Devil, Paz receives a text from our favorite black widow, who’d like to meet with her. She’s frantic.

Fuego (formerly known as Fogo/ Fobo, but he’s too hot for those silly no-names) has found out about the story of the little girl who ended up in a hospital without any ID, he thinks she might be Gin’s daughter. Elvira gets excited, but Fuego has a bigger piece of news: he managed to track down Ginebra’s biological father. Elvira is almost as excited as the Patio is getting, where is Ricardo? Dead (boohoo), her father paid for the burial (does that mean he also killed him?).

Elvira gets frustrated about the whole thing, what was the point of that mysterious phone call then? How will she be able to protect her daughter Ginebra? She tries to remove a strand of hair from her face, but it gets tangled in her earring. Fuego gives her a helping hand, he gets awfully close to untangle her hair and to whisper that he will protect her (I guess he means Ginebra, but I’m not sure, because I’m like: “oh, you’re so pretty, touch my hair next”).

Elvira pushes him away, but he says he knows she feels the same as he does, he sees it in her eyes. He loves her. She slaps him, forbids him to mention this ever again.

She can no longer trust men. Her first love, Ginebra’s father, used to work for her father. He made her trust him, turned her against her father. But he only used her, wanted her money. Fuego says he’d never do that, but she disagrees. She’s been complaining about Esteban and Paz, she can’t be that much of a hypocrite. Besides, he’s much younger.

Fuego offers to resign, but she won’t accept it, she’d rather have him close, he knows all of her secrets.

It's time to leave the country and Esteban assures Porfirio they won’t come back again.

Enter man on a horse, riding like his life depended on it (or a good telenovela entrance). Eder is the first to see him, then Porfirio hugs him and… meet Humberto, two days old beard, cowboy hat and an attitude. Porfirio calls him “son”.

The guy has a scratch on one of his perfect biceps, he had to break up a fight in a neighboring ranch (because of course he did).

He mocks Esteban about his fancy clothes, says he’s happy to have met his nephews, but kind of mocks them, too… When Esteban defends them, he calls him too sensitive. Humberto has to leave, he has something to take care of, Esteban wants to help, he’s still part of this ranch.

Ginebra is at the support group with a big picture of Samara, asking the women to try to remember her daughter’s lovely face. Can Paz remember if the girl she saw a while back was her? Oh, their children are their most precious treasure.

By the way, Ginebra suddenly remembers to ask, how did Paz find that little boy? She does plan to return him to his mom, right? Or did they all save Monito from violent parents?

One of the other moms explains to Ginebra that Paz saved Monito from the street, and Paz adds that she failed to explain to Gin the entire story of Monito, because she is in several groups and another one of these groups helped her. The other mom adds that she saved him from an aquatic park and I finally get what is going on. Paz is being caught in a lie, but Ginebra plays along, she hopes Paz told the police about Monito, it would be terrible to be accused of having kidnapped him.

Paz explains that she’s afraid his parents might be violent, Gin asks what proof she has that they are. The other women think she can get herself into problems, Gin understands Paz, but she thinks she’s wrong, and when another mom suggests that she’s trying to replace ger daughter with Monito Gin “defends” her, saying that she’s certain Paz will do the right thing.

All through this “touching” conversation” Paz looks like she’s about to throw up.

Kenzo and Nandy have a hard time explaining what a trans is to Samara. Nandy finally says being trans means feeling different than what you look like. Kenzo is impressed by Nandy’s simple explanation, Samara appears to get it immediately, she even apologizes for having asked. This is the perfect child.

Humberto tells Porfirio that he agreed to allow Esteban to help because he’s surely bored with his life and he will see soon enough how life is around here.

The kids tell Esteban that he shouldn’t allow Humberto to humiliate him. They say they can live their life without these people, but Esteban wants to take this on.

Porfirio thinks the kids want to go, but Gala and Eder would like to spend time with him.

Left alone, Humberto and Esteban start their pissing contest.

Esteban asks why he wasn’t around when dad felt bad. Humberto explains it was not the first time the old man has health issues, he drinks too much coffee, doesn’t sleep enough… Esteban asks why he calls him “son”, this is not his place. Humberto doesn’t see the harm in it, he’s his nephew and just to let Esteban know, he oversees everything.

If Esteban wants to prove he can still handle farm work, how about they start with a horse ride competition? Off they go!

Paz is alone, crying and remembering her pregnancy. She has hope she will one day meet her daughter, she will never stop searching for her.

Lupita arrives at the hotel with toys for Sam. She was careful to take three cabs on her way here, it’s her turn to stay with Sam while Nandy leaves. She feels bad, she feels like a criminal, but they are all doing this for Sam.

Ginebra comes to talk to Salomon’s ex, she’d like to know more about what she said the other day – Paz and her family were searching for a little girl. Can she count on her, she asks and shows her a stash of money.

At the Villa, Paz and the family are preparing tacos. Kenzo has bought them all new cells and left them with Pepa. Elvira finds them using her kitchen and asks them all to leave the house until the night.

Eder loved the tractors, but Gala is upset Porfirio is not very welcoming, they were very nice to him when he came to their house. Porfirio says he’d like to know them better, Gala explains tiktok to him and how it works and then Gala and Eder dance for him. Abuelo doesn’t like it, he’d rather they stop and listen to the birds singing.

Paz and the boys are in the barrio, trying to sell their tacos. After Paz leaves them alone, Sal gives Pepa a box, don’t know what, but it means something for the two of them, Sal gave him the same thing when their dad left.

Mireya has come by her house and here is Mauro, asking if she had forgotten something the other day, since she left in such a hurry. She gets scared, but he only meant … a nice necklace with a bottle shaped pendant, that contains an elixir… a magic potion that made him change the way he saw women. Their love is like this, strong, dangerous…She is scared and excited at the same time.

Esteban and Humberto are now talking about the ranch problems, Humber suspects that someone contaminated the river with pesticide, apparently there are two other ranchers who found the issue on their lands. Now it’s his turn to verify.  We find out he’s a lawyer, he thought legal studies might help him settle land disputes down the line.

He goes to the river, takes a water sample and tests it right away. He’s upset when it is confirmed that the water is infected.

Later he confronts some guy called Crisanto, who didn’t inform the proper authorities about what was happening on his lands. Esteban says he’s also risking people’s lives, he could end up in jail. Humberto doesn’t want to take things this far, he thinks Crisanto could cover the losses. The guy agrees, but don’t ask to much money…

Ginebra is talking with Felipa about their cryptocurrency plan. She needs to find a way to make Gala accept to work with her.

As Felipa leaves, Vermin arrives and Ginebra tells him she wants to get him involved in the Monito situation. They need to “diversify” their affairs, and Monito could be a good test.

Vermin refuses to do it, he already sold his daughter years ago, she will suffer if her little friend goes missing. Ginebra reminds him he is in her power, he will have to do what he’s told.

Elvira is now with her lawyer, who hasn’t found out if Rubio was working with someone else. She asks him to investigate Paz, she is surely involved with Rubio.

Paz calls Lupita on her new cell and Sam wants to talk to her. They miss each other so much. Paz would like to be able to sell tacos with Sam. They are both sad they can’t meet, Paz cries even.

Esteban doesn’t understand why Humberto doesn’t want Crisanto to pay for his crimes, but Humber says that not all crimes are the same, this guy has had a lot of problems lately.

Esteban thinks Humber is taking too many liberties, he shouldn’t be handling his father’s affairs. But Humber doesn’t agree, he thinks Esteban is too strict, he sees life in black and white only, he should loosen up. They start quarrelling, almost fight, Humber thinks Esteban has become to weak, he’s no longer a Vila de Cortes. Esteban can’t hear this, he’s still his father’s son, his only son and that’s what Humber must hate so much.

We find out they have always been in a competition, ever since Humberto first arrived. Esteban wants to help them handle this problem.

Later he’s leaving with his family, Porfirio thinks the kids wouldn’t survive here. Esteban agrees the kids have their place in the city, but they could be welcomed here, too. He’s upset when Humberto call Porfirio “dad”. Gala is upset they were so badly received, even Bosco feels sad. When Eder says a word in English, Porfirio doesn’t understand it or like it.

Esteban feels bad his father doesn’t appreciate their love, but he won’t forget his origins. If he ever changes his mind, he knows where his grandchildren and his “real” son are.

Adriana: Ginebra is the Latina version of OJ Simpson: Evil Incarnate & Narcissistic.

I'm almost team Humberto and Porfirio. Esteban leaves the farm for 20 years and only recently has tried to reconnect with his father. If he and Humberto have always had a rivalry I would assume H arrived as a teenager (or younger) into his Uncle's home so the relationship would be a close father son type. The horses were beautiful and they both actually looked like they could ride, though H holding his hat made me wonder where the chin strap was to hold it on his head. The black horse looked like a Friesian, a beautiful breed. Seems like a weekend visit to the farm would have made more sense so the kids didn't miss school, I believe it is Monday on this episode.
I'm wondering if the necklace Mauro gave to Mireya has a tracker in it, or a tiny microphone. Money is no object with Gin so I'm sure she can get her hands on the latest and best technology.

Oh Adriana, this was beautifully written.

I relived the entire episode through your all seeing eye; you revealed so much that I missed.

"Ginebra can’t believe Mauro loves Samara, that recogida. She realizes she can’t kill her anymore (darn); she will have to make society think she is a loving mother" was savage and inhumam. I despised how masterfully she played Paz, gently rebuking her and questioning her about Monito in front of the support group. As you so astutely noted Paz "looked like she is about to throw up."

And now Gin wants to "diversify" and wants Monito!! At least Vermin refused initially although we all know she will make him bend to her will. Please writers, don't go there. Monito has been through too much already.

Seeing the children with the farm animals and enjoying themselves was refreshing. Porfirio is a pill and it seems he and Esteban are not ready or willing to try and repair their relationship. The horses were magnificent. Humberto will be another fly in the ointment, albeit a good looking one.

Sweet Sam...

I feel on tenterhooks waiting for the next terrible thing to happen...

Thank you for taking such care with yet another sad episode!

Cher Adriana, merci . You brought us every detail as this story unfolds . I have no idea where we are headed.

The trip to the farm was interesting . We saw Daniel riding horses on " Herencia " and on " Delsamada" before that . In the photo , it appeared that Porfirio was seated on the ground with young Esteban and older guys were standing behind them. Humberto must have been one of those guys , so he is quite a few years older than Esteban. If Hum went to college and law school ,did he also work on the farm during those years ? That would have been exhausting . Although, my friend did go to college while living on his family farm. I wonder how far away the farm is from Esteban's home .

Vermin has painted himself into a corner . Will he ever tell Paz the truth ? Now Gin is telling him to eliminate Monito. Poor Monito is so happy in his new family . I hope the writers don't sacrifice an innocent .

So now, Gin realizes that she can't just kill Sam. So...now what is the plan? She plans to get Sam back , destroy Paz and her family, and then marry Esteban and destroy him, his kids, and Elvira . wow.

Susan

I wonder who decided to give Altair the Morticia Adams look with the severe hairstyle and all black leather all the time look. Not very subtle . More like a neon sign of evil. Abandon hope all ye that enter here.

Susan

I think that this telenovela only has around 40 episodes !

Susan

Great work, Adriana. You captured the whole atmosphere of this episode.

I had been wondering all along how Ginebra was going to deal with this. She can't possibly kill Samara now without someone getting suspicious. I now wonder even more how many kills she has made and whether there were any people around those victims who could surface now and call in a suspicious death or two.

Samara is a smart kid so if Ginebra does a Joan Crawford and creates a public image of the
Perfect Mother while remaining the monster she really is in private, how will this child deal with it? She seems good at keeping secrets but this kind? How would Mauro deal with this? How much more of this can he take?

Ginebra is also extremely paranoid and won't be able to maintain the masquerade forever. She breaks at every small loss, thinking that the victor is laughing at her.

When Ginebra ordered Vermin to grab Monito she said this was an ensayo which translates into "rehearsal." She is looking to mold him into the monster that she is.

More later.

Wonderful recap, Adriana. Thank you!

There was a lot of new info in the episode which made it a good one. I have a feeling that Esteban could learn a lot from Humberto. It sounds like Esteban is jealous of Humberto for teaming up with his dad when he never really was interested in working with his dad himself. Sounded like sour grapes. I liked his advice to Esteban that not everything was black and white.

Talking about a good deed coming back to bite you, suddenly the women's group seemed to gang up on Paz after Ginebra brought up Mojito. Let us hope that Paz has learned her lesson. They need to get rid of the "deer in the headlights" look that Paz has any time she is around Ginebra. She looks perpetually guilty.

Vermin would do Paz and family a favor if he did a disappearing act. It would put Ginebra at a major disadvantage.

I can't wait until tonight.

The farm tour was a little confusing . Porfirio waffles back and forth between seeming to want to reconcile with his son and get to know his grandkids and then suddenly rejecting them all . Soft music tickled as we saw Abuelo offer the family lunch all set up on the patio table . You feed people you love . Maybe cranky grandpa will be happy grandpa in the end . I think so. I hope so.

Was sour Bosco starting to sweeten up a little while meeting the farm animals and gently petting the cute bunny ?? I am sure he will thaw by the end of this show ,and we will see a HEA for Esteban and his surly teen son.

Also, Hum was on that black Fresisn , while Esteban rode the white horse . Good guy\ bad guy . Will Hum be a good guy in this story or another villain . Exactly when did Hum usurp Esteban in Porfirio's heart? Was it before or after Esteban left the farm ? Do we know how old Esteban was when he lost his mother ?
Susan

Thanks, Adriana. My comprehension in this episode wasn't great so I'm glad you clarified some things for me.
Porfirio is annoying. It's bad enough having to watch Elvira being nasty, but Porfirio being rude to his grandkids was a bit too much. When the kids act more like adults, you know you messed-up. I do not care he is angry Esteban left. What have the kids done to him? It's pathetic when Gala has to explicitly tell him they don't feel welcome.
umberto isn't wrong about Esteban having a strict moral code. At first I thought Umberto meant he would let the guy get off if the guy paid him directly and was like 'what is going on there?' But I suppose that's meant to be a kind gesture from Umberto. I sided with the kids when they said they should leave.Porfirio apparently refuses to learn anything that is in any way connected to a city life, which is just weird to me. I guess it's not supposed to make sense but still. Even if Esteban is jealous of Umberto,I still can't understand how a parent can treat his child the way Porfirio treats Esteban. Is he one of those parents who think kids are born to fullfill their parents' expectations?
How long before we again have to watch Ginevra mistreating Samara?
I can't watch scenes with Mauro and Miraya. This relationship is just...they can't be going the 'she will redeem him' route surely? Miraya just looks crazy when she keeps desiring a guy who nearly killed her niece.. I struggle to suspend my disbelief when it comes to these two. Or are my standards to high?

I gave the Vermin situation another thought and this is about more than turning him into a monster: Monito's disappearance will seriously upset Samara, which will give Ginebra her jollies by enabling her to gaslight Samara into believing that Monito abandoned her.

As to how Porfirio treats Esteban, he obviously sees Esteban's city lifestyle as a criticism of his own. I have an artist friend whose father was a potato farmer who had no respect for his son's profession. That he was an only child -- like Esteban seems to be -- seems to be a contributing factor. A college friend of mine married into a blue collar family who had no respect for him; they felt that if you didn't get your hands dirty you're not working.

Uh oh . I think we are not being shown how dangerously obsessed Gin has become with Esteban. We saw her fantasy of him in the gym and shower , but I saw a clip of capitula #32 on YouTube that was cut , and Gin was in her bedroom and had another fantasy as she was holding a negligee. Shirtless Esteban slowly walks towards Gin , and she embraces him ,but then he steps back and says he loves Paz and....evaporates . Censors must have snipped it out of that episode . Again...uh oh. Gin may want to destroy everyone ,but she is becoming completely obsessed with Esteban, so she wouldn't hesitate to kill her competition Paz. Esteban doesn't realize that the more he declares his love for Paz ,the more Gin will hate her and want her gone.
Susan

Thanks so much, Adriana, I enjoyed your recap. Ginebra is the most evil female I have seen on a telenovela. She wants to destroy too many people. I hope she doesn’t turn Vermin into a killer.

It sounds like both Esteban and Humberto left the farm to get an education. The difference being Humberto returned. Porfirio went to the city, I thought to get to know his grandchildren, but then pretty much rejects them when they show up. They did enjoy the farm. It would be great if the relationships improved and the kids could actually spend time on the farm. Bosco could be a help, and maybe lose his sulking self. Plus he’d be away from Elvira, who is not a good influence. But she sure is determined to get something on Paz. I can’t believe she’s trying to connect her to Rubio. I can’t wait till she finds out the truth.

My first thought when Mauro told Mireya she forgot something I was sure he’d drop the bug in her hand. When I saw the necklace I wondered if it had a tracking device. I don’t know if she knows the bug was found. But Mauro must know, is he toying with Mireya-like a cat with a mouse.

Thank you all, for your comments!

Kat, I agree with you thay I don't see the harm in Porfirio calling Humberto "son", it happens all the time in novelas with people who are not even related. Esteban is being jealous but he's been MIA for a lot of years, leaving an aging father deal with a big ranch , Humberto stepping in seemed like the normal thing to do. We need more background about the cousins and Esteban leaving ranch life.
Good guess about that necklace that Mauro gave Mireya - these two are disturbing together, him putting a bug in a piece of jewelery might actually turn her on.

Urban, I think in order to fool everyone, Ginebra would actually have to pretend with Samara, too. Or will her level of manipulation be so big, the poor child will keep quiet (like it sadly happens so often in real life)? Sam now knows what true family love really is, she will protest, right?

Jarifa, I agree there was a lot of fast talking and new info tonight, I'm not sure I got everything right, especially about the water being infected. But novelas rarely get these types of details right, either, so I just wrote what made more sense to me. LOL

Waterlily, I was shocked to see how dismissive Porfirio was of the kids. Not even Elvira is this nasty with them.
Gala and Bosco were right wanting to leave, even Eder felt bad at the end. Someone who rejects sweet Eder doesn't deserve the time of day!!
Mir and Mau give me the creeps, too. Hopefully he dies saving Sam, she cries for a minute and then she finds someone normal to fall for.

Susan, they made a point of saying Humberto was a lawyer, this will be used later... maybe if Paz ends up in jail?
So this guy manages a big ranch and had the time to finish law school. And we've only known him for an episode. In the meantime, our protagonista still has a misterious company, we have no clue what he sells/ buys/ produces.
The ranch is a couple of hours away, Esteban told this to Paz when they first went there. Having the Roble move there wouldn't be practical.

Porfirio is All or Nothing. The only thing that might make him happy is for Esteban to turn his back on city life forever. I don't see that happening.

The best outcome and FPS would have include Paz' family opening a restaurant with farm-fresh food supplied by Porfirio's ranch.

Since the degree in chemistry Ginebra claims to have was seen as potentially valuable I still think that Elvira's company is pharmaceuticals. Or industrial stuff like pesticides.

I did see that scene of Ginebra's fantasy (New York City). We know she's deranged.

Thanks, Adriana! That was a fun read. I giggled at “oh, you’re so pretty, touch my hair next”...

So, in gratuitously shirtless news (yes, I'm keeping score), we've seen Esteban, Fuego, Mauro, and now Umberto. We saw both Mauro and Umberto from the back, so we know they're not tribal-tattoos guy. He can't be Esteban or Fuego, obviously, and it's unlikely that he could be Fermin, who I don't think gets out much. But maybe he could take his shirt off just so we could be sure...? Hmmm?

I was hoping Nandy would remind Sam about the street party, when she was dressed as a boy, but knew she was a girl. That's a nice simple explanation that would probably resonate with a lot of people.

I'm not worried about Monito at all. I bet he can escape from any trap Gin sets for him.

Urban, that fantasy was not in the #32 episode that I watched . I found it interesting because Gin looked truly hurt and sad as her fantasy evaporated when Esteban told Gin that he loved Paz and backed away. I had never seen that very human emotion on her face before that scene. She didn't display her usual crazy rage that we see when she doesn't get what she wants. She looked sad and hurt.

Blue Lass, good in you keeping track of the shirtless scenes . Oddly, the ladies are all pretty covered up . #tableturning
