El Amor No Tiene Receta #38: The Truth Will Out.... Eventually

Mireya and her sons were worried to the max about Lupita. Esteban filled them in on what the doctors said – she was stable and her vital signs were acceptable – and had to ask about where Paz went. He was shocked that she left the hospital with Lupita fighting for her life. Pepa told him that Paz and Vermin were taking Monito back to his parents. Esteban sensed that something wasn't right. Mireya said she hadn't told Paz anything about Lupita's condition. Pepa told him that they were helping Paz but it was nothing bad. Esteban excused himself to leave to check on the investigation.

Mauro and Ginebra gloated and talked about the possible next steps re Vermin.

Monito was robbed of his jacket by two adults. [The world is too full of such scum.] The poor kid leaned against a stone wall and started crying.

Bosco and Gala talked about why her relationship with Salomón would not work. Bosco said they were too different and he had another girl. She asked him if he had a crush and if it was her friend. He admitted he had too much hate and sadness in his heart to be open to love, saying that no girl deserved anyone like him. Gala told him that healing is a process and that therapy would eventually open his heart. He should not be afraid to love.

Salomón confronted Mireya about her tryst with Mauro. She tried to lie her way out of it but Salomón said that Mauro himself told them and they can't be fooled. Pepa said they were concerned. She scolded her sons and pulled the Adult Card. Pepa pointed out that such decisions have a domino effect. The issue of her being in love came up and Pepa decided they should not discuss this there, as it was not the time nor the place. Salomón walked off and Pepa told her to be careful.

Mauro heard this coming from the bug planted in the pendant he had given her. He repeated it to himself and took a drink.

Paz talked to Lupita who was agitated as she woke. Paz yelled to the nurse to get a doctor. In 1.5 seconds they were in the room.

Elvira entered and interrupted Bosco's and Gala's conversation. She asked where their “guests” were and whether they had stolen anything. Gala asked why these classist comments were necessary. Elvira went on saying “progressive” attitudes clouding her judgment and about poor people all being rats, like the Robles. Bosco said “I guess with them they realized that this is not their place.” Gala listened to a message from Salomón, tekling her they had to talk later as his abuela was in hospital. Elvira spouted her usual insults again as a sigh of relief and that the Robles would never return. Gala told her she had a rotten soul. [I like this girl even more now.] “Don't you understand she is suffering?” Bosco tried to stop her, saying “We're the ones who are suffering”, pointing out the bite on his arm and her broken heart. Elvira looked at the bite mark and said that these people belonged in jail forever. Gala asked if she had no compassion. This seemed to get Bosco's attention.

Esteban confronted Castro in the barrio. The cop told him that the cameras focused on the Robles' alley had no evidence that anything happened. Esteban became impatient and fed up with what he thought was slipshod work, naming past situations. They exchanged the previous insults. Castro said “If the cameras don't work..” and Esteban said “it's because they were manipulated. Get to the bottom of this and do your job.” He walked away still angry.

Another police car entered the barrio. Gema and Yoni were hanging out in an abandoned and very damaged van eating and talking. Monito got there and recognized them as neighbors to Paz.

Mauro called Vermin, saying that if Monito knew anything important they would have to kill him and all the others. He threatened Vermin again that he would kill off all of Paz' family if he didn't find Monito. Vermin said “No, no, no' I will find him.” He ended the call and started his car.

Gala argued with Elvira about her and Bosco's classist attitudes in front of Bosco. Elvira pulled out the Young and Naïve card to play against her, saying that Paz' family always were and will always think like “workers.” Gala pointed out that money doesn't make people better. To Elvira's next comment about Salomón having cheated and she would meet someone of her class who would value her, Gala answered that she is Gala Villa de Cortes, single or otherwise. And left the room.

Bosco actually took Gala's side for once. He said “It surprises me that being as good a Christian as you say you are, you have so little empathy for your granddaughter.”

She replied “What is this? Now you're against me?”

No, I'm not against you. But I don't forgive you for that slap you gave me. And you don't take away my door either. You think you're a very good person, Grandma, but you're not. It hurts to realize it, right? The same thing happened to me and now I hate what I became.”

My love, don't call me grandma, I'm your Yaya.”

It's better that you go.” [Is he faking this or are we witnessing a miracle?] He turned his back and she looked like her crocodile tears were going to fall.

Lupita was breathing without assistance, but the doctor said she was weak and needed rest and calm. Paz asked who had attacked her. She said it was Rubio who may have escaped and that Vermin had sent him. Paz could not believe this. Lupita had her promise to be careful. Her remaining words were garbled as the sedation took effect.

Monito got a bite to eat from Gema who told her friend to give the boy his jacket. Before he could do so Vermin arrived and called Monito who began running away from him. Vermin had just grabbed him as Esteban arrived just in time. Monito accused Vermin of trying to kidnap him and Esteban grabbed Vermin by the shirt. Vermin claimed he was taking Monito to his parents but he got out of the cab. Vermin said that Monito was not of this neighborhood. Esteban demanded the truth or he would get the police. Gema said that Monito's parents fought a lot and hurt him. Esteban took out his phone to call the cops. The kid said “I wanted to go with my parents but I regret it.” Esteban stopped and said he was fed up with this. He demanded to know what was going on.

Thanks to a bug in Vermin's cellphone Mauro heard all this. He told Ginebra that Esteban and Monito were in the same place. Ginebra said this was better than their plan. “The idiot Fermin saves himself however he can. I'm not interested in the child.”

Ah... I get it. You weren't planning to get rid of Monito. It was nothing more than a good pretext to sow doubts.”

She grinned, then shrugged. He laughed.

Monito said “I just want to get some sleep. I walked a lot and, clearly, I don't feel like going away with my parents.”

Vermin received a text from Mauro to stop what he was doing; the kid was not important. Esteban asked Gemas if she knew “Chema”'s parents. She said she did but they disappeared from the neighborhood. Esteban asked Monito if he wanted this reported to the police but he said “No, it's better to forget this.” Vermin was less than polite and Esteban told him he got lucky that day. He did not believe in his falsified goodness. He took Monito with him. Gemas asked Vermin what this was all about. Vermin answered “Nothing. He digs grand gestures and has to play the hero all the time.” Gema said to “save your saliva and let's talk business.” She said to pay her off or his life would be ruined. He was shocked.

Morning.

Paz told the others bout Lupita's progress and slugged Vermin when he returned. She demanded to know what involvement he had in Lupita's attack. He seemed shocked at the idea of Rubio being out of jail, said that Rubio didn't take orders from him but was also after him. He said he never wished Paz harm. Paz told him that if he was lying to her he had no idea what she was capable of. Mireya got on his case and he blamed Rubio's thugs. Paz told him to swear he had nothing to do with the attack on Lupita. He did, telling her to look him in the eye and see that e would no do such a thing to family. [I can't wait for the day he has to confess about having sold the baby]. Esteban arrived and slugged Vermin when Salomón accused him. A security guard almost dragged Esteban out Vermin told Paz that he is a changed man since the disappearance of their baby and would never hurt her. [She should wonder about that reference point.]

Sadly, Paz still did not tell Esteban the truth of the situation. She told Esteban that this was true and that Vermin was taking Monito to his parents at her request. She and her family were being hounded for debts owed to Rubio so they changed their phone numbers and tried to hide. He asked why she didn't tell him this before because they could have resolved it and she said she never expected it to cone to this. He did not understand why she was defending Vermin so he told Vermin he was not going to lt him hurt anyone, especially Paz. Vermin did not take this seriously and tried to bait him but Esteban wasn't having it. He told him he was going to the prison to investigate Rubio's escape. Nobody wanted to leave the hospital and Esteban told Paz that they were a couple and he was there for her. [Lines like this are always harbingers of doom.] He was going to the office to resolve something with Ginebra. Paz then told him that Ginebra had the hots for him.

Ginebra and Felipa talked in the office about Kenzo and Nandy, which Ginebra lost interest in in favor of talking about the money laundering. Felipa handed her a portfolio to check out.

Esteban assured Paz that he was not interested in Ginebra. Paz elaborated on that conversation, including the line about her being muy poca cosa to him. More spectacular reassurances [the usual harbingers of doom] and a dirty look from Vermin who watched from about three meters away.

Nandy and Samara had breakfast near the computer. When Nandy got up Samara googled Ginebra's name and came up with a photo of her and herself that looked like it was out of a modeling shoot. She realized that this was her mother from hell.

Paz forgave Vermin for the past [that she doesn't know the totality of] but said that this was the last time. She warned him not to deceive her again.

Samara was confused about Ginebra. How could she feel both love and fear at the same time? Nandy hugged her.

Ginebra marked some pages and gave Felipa instructions on purchasing the underlined properties with the laundered money. Of course Felipa expected to be paid. Ginebra said they'd talk about it after she made the purchases. [We get the subtext of this, por supuesto.]

Elvira saw Fobo washing the car clad only in his undershirt and pants. She backed off out of sight when he realized she was watching him. He told her he had just finished and would take her to the office as soon as he changed his clothes. She made a comment about not being accustomed to seeing sweat or sinewy arms. She backed up to let him enter and head for his quarters. [This was amusing but still went nowhere.]

Esteban went to the prison to confront Rubio, who baited him. He lost his cool and started choking him, saying he knew that he didn't kill Berenice and that he was covering for someone else.

Salomón went to Esteban's place to fix a light. Gala told him she was sorry about his abuela, then embraced him. [Are they making up?]

Bosco gave the same statement to Pepa. He then gifted him the book that Ginebra had given him before [The Catcher in the Rye].

Esteban interrogated Rubio about the death of Berenice. Rubio did not cooperate and made fun of Esteban as a guard led him back to his cell. Esteban warned he he will find out who really did the crime and he will pay.

Lupita woke up with Paz at her side. She recalled Rubio's words as he stabbed her, becoming agitated at telling her that Vermin had demanded that Rubio do this. She told her that Esteban was contronting Rubio.

Gala missed Paz. Bosco said “It is not like without Paz we are nothing. We can order something in the App and that's it.” Salomón commented that he and Pepa were short of cash and offered to cook. Eder said they should do it together, as he is a future chef. Mponito and Gala deided to help and Bosco thought it all a great idea. The boys – Salomón, Pepa, Eder, and Bosco – all seemed to be getting along as they talked about various foods and all went to the kitchen.

Mireya was at the hospital cashier when Mauro arrived. He said the usual things about her mother. She confronted him about his conversation with her sons. He tried telling her he had real feelings for her. She wasn't convinced. Paz asked him why he was there. Mireya said he was offering help but Paz rejected this because they had Esteban. He renewed the offer, then left. Paz strongly suspected his motives.

At the office Esteban was in the conference room with Kenzo, Felipa, Ginebra, and Elvira. Elvira said her usual insults about Lupita, Ginebra faked concern, etc., up to Elvira sayng that this was wasting their time. Esteban turned Elvira's chair around to face a screen for the presentation, which was apparently very good. Later in his office Ginebra asked him if he was really in love with Paz. He told her in bno uncertain terms that he was. She started coming onto him. He told her to not confuse personal with professional. She was not giving up.

Miraya makes me want to tear my hair out...or maybe tear her hair out.The weriters expect me to believe that a couple of secret meetings, one of them was in a house full of cockroaches made her fall in love with him and sheIS going out with Mauro? I can't watch scenes with those two. And all Paz has to say is 'be careful.'
Paz has no sense at all. The doctor tells her not to cause her mum any distress and the first thing she does is ask'dear mother, who attacked you?' Good Good, Paz!
Gema seemed to guess Fermin was in trouble and said something about Monito's parents leaving because anything can be used for blackmail. It's so funny when she tries to pull off'I'm a cool barrio girl' act but is so desperate to get back with Salo and sides with anyone.
Gala and Bosco finally told Elvira some nice words. I know they won't help, but I'm just sick of watching her. I would find this role very tiring.
From the previews I saw, it does appear Esteban will get the 'I'm mad enough to pick the evil witch' plot and I'm a bit curious how they'll pull it off, given that Ginevra isn't his type and is so cold. He seems smarter than most galanes so it will be sad to watch.
I found it a bit irritating that Paz begged them to let her stay with her mum, as if she was her only child. What about her sister? She just came out and informed Mir their mum was fine. Doesn't Miraya want to see her too?
I can't take that whole Elvira and Fobo thing seriously. Why are two romances in this show so bloody weird?

But in a bit of a plot twist it seems Bosco is actually getting along with the Roble kids, so that was refreshing, and not so enamored of Yaya.

I am not wild about the idea of Ginebra bagging Esteban but there is more than enough time in the story for that. I just hope Paz didn't get pregnant because I really hate that.

I think that Paz wanted to stay with Lupita because she felt guilty about possibly being the cause of the attack. She doesn't know about the connexion between Rubio and Ginebra but he caused them so much grief because of Vermin, who owed him too much dinero seven years previously. She also allowed Vermin to live in their rooftop room, which we all agreed she should not have done.

Gema sides with anyone who will hand her money. She is trash.

I want to believe that Bosco is waking up to becoming a better person. It looks as though Gala influenced this along with Lupita's brush with the Reaper. He knows how painful it is to lose a loving mother and could not have missed that Lupita is a loving matriarch who would be missed by two daughters and two grandsons. He's also seen the estrangement between his father and grandfather which makes no logical sense.

Thanks, Urban. I just got so annoyed with Mraya and others that I had to comment.
I don't understand what the whole point of that supposed child trafficking was. How exactly did they plan to sow doubts? It appears Esteban being there wasn't part of their plan so I'm confused.
Fogo's 'my arms are good for hugs' made me cringe. It was one of those moments where it's so awkward that you'd quite like to run away; only you have nowhere to hide.
Ginevraseems to think all men are the same. I do wonder if it's true sometimes because the decent ones seemed to be mentioned as an exception. She must also think she's irresistible because she doesn't even bother waiting for him to leave Paz.
I was surprised Paz defended Fermin. But I suppose if she had said she knew nothing about it, they'd have had to get the police involved. But it's not like she knows where he was taking Monito.
It amused Esteban was threatening that investigator. I don't know why, but it's always funny to me when very honest people threaten the police. Poor Esteban must have been so confused in that scene with monito because they were just not making sense.
Paz had herlast chance and didn't take it. It's already too late, but why couldn't she have spared us the pain of having to endure a few moreepisodes of 'I have my reasons'? Was that lamp really broken? Because there's no way Elviratold sSalo it was.

Another thing I forgot...Why did Samara burst into tears after seeing that picture? Doesn't she already know Gin is her mother? I'm pretty sure they told her because sh's asked this before.
Also, how is Esteban confornting Rubio supposed to be any confort to Lupita? Esteban can do absolutely nothing.

Don't know about the lamp, but maybe Gala made the call.

I also don't know why Fobo would want to boink Elvira. She is no Scarlett and he isn't Rhett; he could get a woman of appropriate age very easily. Not that the situation isn't amusing but it is more unlikely than almost anything else in this story.

The awful truth about abused kids like Samara is that they keep trying to get abusive parents to love them. I am willing to bet that the second she sees the inside of Ginebra's lair all the horror will come back to her. The big question now is whether Mauro will still try to prevent Ginebra from killing her.

Thank you, Urban, for your fab recap of a very troubling but enjoyable episode.

waterlily, you beat me to the punch with "Paz has no sense at all. The doctor tells her not to cause her mum any distress and the first thing she does is ask'dear mother, who attacked you?' Good Good, Paz!" Unfortunately, they have made Paz very stupid. I could not believe her not believing Lupita who told her about Vermin being involved in her attack about three times. I still do not understand her continued tolerance of Vermin.

Mauro has looked rather pensive after his conversations with Ginebra about Mireya's transmissions. I wonder if he is starting to like Mireya for real. Wouldn't that be a hoot and throw a wrench in Ginebra's plan?

Out of all of the main characters, the only adults thinking clearly were Esteban and Lupita in spite of her sedation. As for the kids, Monito and his street smarts puts him way ahead of the others regardless of his age.

Urban, thanks for noting "the usual harbingers of doom." Yep, I think Paz is going to rue the days she had a chance to come clean with Esteban but was too stupid to do so. It seems that Esteben is going to pursue the truth wherever it leads him. Oh, well . . . we do need a story to comment on. : )

Thanks, Urban, that was a great recap of some confusing things.

A nice change was Bosco siding with his sister against Elvira and then the kids all talking and deciding to cook. What a change in Bosco. And a gift of a book, not a sword, for Pepa.

Paz still has not told Esteban the truth, but I guess he thinks she has. I’m guessing he’ll have to find out on his own. And that could lead him to Ginebra. The gallan always seems to stray to the bad girl lately.

Ginebra and Mauro are pretty smart criminals. No one has any idea what they’re up against, even our characters that know they’re the bad guys.

I didn’t like the scene with Elvira and Fobo. Very uncomfortable. Plus he went in and I’m sure he left the soap on the car!

Urban, thank you for that spectacular recap that delivered every moment of this episode .

I really like seeing Este an in hero mode...here we go. He has a tell when be is about to attack . He gets a look in his face like he is listening intently and Grant believe what he is hearing before he ounces forward and pushes followed by a punch. When be was ranting at Rubio , something was bleeped, so he must have used something bad in Spanish .

Ahhh...Bosco may be on his way to becoming a better young man. Catcher in the Rye has been taught in high school English classes for years and sometimes censored . It is the classic take of Holden Caulfield , a confused young rich teenage boy ,trying to understand life and love . I think he fenced. How appropriate for Bosco. Wow, what a surprise that Bosco regifts the book to sweet Pepa . What a turnaround . Urban, I think you are right that the catalyst for Bosco's sudden change if heart might be realizing how the Robles boys must feel at the thought of losing their beloved abuela. Bosco understands what it is like to lose somebody you love. I always read the English words on the kids shirts. Bosco's sweatshirt had the words " Never Enough " on the back.

The Robles boys are good kids who love their family . They remind me of my name cousins . Pepa is adorable . I liked his flannel shirt with two different plaids.

Monito is one sharp little guy . I hope he ends up with Paz and Esteban. All the b young actors in this show are amazing

Whoops..the above comment was from me ...Susan

Urban, my bet is that Paz is pregnant .

I hope Esteban doesn't fall into the crazy bitter itch's arms when the truth is revealed. That would be so out of character for him. Pease let him be a true hero and still stand by Paz with unconditional love . There are good guys in real life.

I noticed that Esteban and Kenzo exchanged a look of disbelief in the meeting . I think it was because Felipe was sitting there . Their looked was Like " QTH???"

I think Mauro is falling in love with Mir . Can he be redeemed ? I doubt it because he has enabled Gin for too long.

Vermin is a punching bag . Guy must feel pathetic next to suave Esteban. I wonder if he will survive .

Susan

I also wonder whether Vermin will survive. He has screwed Paz over in one of the worst ways I can think of and he's a dunce to boot.

Not sure if Mauro is actually falling for Mireya. If so he will have a huge attack of guilt coming in about 15-20 episodes. He has enabled Ginebra -- probably more than once -- and we don't know everything on their rap sheets. He killed Gorila, but -- as a Texan would say -- he needed killing. He should have booked ages ago with a couple years' worth of cash and his tech knowledge so he could be free. They don't need to collect any more cash to live well so he has to know now that Ginebra has a huge blood lust and she will not hesitate to turn it on him if she thinks he has betrayed her.

Unless this has a seriously downbeat ending I think Monito will end up with Paz, Esteban, and the other kids. He deserves that.

We're not at the usual time for the Karmageddon discussion but I think Ginebra must die. Let it be as humiliating as possible.

Urban,

Your consistently stellar recaps continue...

Loved the screen shot.

"Monito was robbed of his jacket by two adults. [The world is too full of such scum] was an especially upsetting scene (in the midst of mnay). The poor child cannot have any peace. What would have happened to him had not Esteban showed up? That he has remained kind and relatively unscathed is a miracle.

"Gema said to “save your saliva and let's talk business.” She said to pay her off or his life would be ruined". I can't hate anyone who would threaten Vermin.

I'd like to think Bosco is being genuine with "the boys" but I'm not buying it.

At least Lupita doesn't seem to be at death's door any longer.

I don't understand Mir, she knows Mauro is pure poison.

Yes, Ginebra must die. It is a given...

And yes to Monito ending up with Paz and Esteban.

Diana

Terrific recap, UA. I got a kick out of your putting up the photo of Elvira contemplating Fobo in his undershirt. Did Azela Robinson insist on a "love interest" as part of her contract? This whole thing is ridiculous. I can't even imagine the weird upbringing Fobo must have had to pick Elvira out as his adored one.

Yes, Paz is riding for a fall with keeping Samara's whereabouts from him. And ITA about her grilling her "death's door" mother and sending her into cardiac arrest.

I am also tiring of the adoring Esteban constantly bringing up the fact that Paz is keeping things from him. Really, dude? You've been involved less than 2 weeks and want her entire life an open book? I know this is supposed to heighten our suspense and to let us see Paz's quandary, but basta!

Don't get me started on Mireya. I suppose they're going with Mauro really falling in love and...what? Sacrificing himself? Turning on Ginebra? Mireya keeps saying to Paz that she's only trying to help by being around him, but she's falling for him.

Yep, Gema is trash. I was not best pleased with Salomon having to break up with Gala to protect Sam. But at least we heard her say that he's ghosting her, so there's that.

OK, we get it. There are some really bad people in D.F. Not only did they steal Monito's jacket, but they searched his pockets and took his money.

I really am confused by Vermin picking him up. Was he really going to deliver the kid to Ginebra to torture until he said Paz had Sam? Vermin supposedly still loves Paz, but he's going to help her into prison?

I am buying Bosco's road to redemption. It was sudden, but seemed prompted by Gala's talk with him. He was ready to spring for food delivery and did not snark about Paz not doing her job. I think Pepa is having an effect on him, treating him like a regular guy. And he resigned from Team Yaya when she took the door off a teenaged boy's sanctuary.

Diana: Ginebra will DIE in some gruesome way. That woman is NUTS.
