La Traición, Thurs. Apr. 3 - Soledad makes a decision about Dr. Dan; Hugo makes a sword for Michelle; Paquito makes an unwelcome discovery
At the Hacienda, Alcides is, what else, eating nuts. Hercu-less comes in and reports that he arranged for the letter that Alcides gave him to be mailed in Alcala and it will be delivered tomorrow morning. “Perfect,” Alcides says to him, “Go get some rest.” Herc leaves. Alcides says that now no one will suspect that Michelle is dead. Now he needs a way to get Dr. Dan out of his way.
Margot is in bed alone. She has multiple flashbacks to things that happened yesterday. She can’t understand why she keeps thinking about Arturo. Herc comes in. They kiss. Herc asks her what happened. She tells him that she told Arturo that she missed Herc and he let her go. Now she is his, only his.
Alcides is obsessed with nuts. Hugo is obsessed with fruit. Hugo is having breakfast and remarks on how sweet the raspberries are (‘Qué tal la dulzura de estas frambuesas’). His neighbor’s daughter gave them to him. He says that today he is going to forge a special sword to give to Michelle. Boris says that Hugo looks happy today and ready to formalize his relationship with Michelle. “I can’t continue to be committed to something impossible, Boris,” says Hugo, “Soledad and I can’t be.” There’s a knock at the door. Boris takes delivery of a letter from Michelle to Hugo.
Soledad is in her ‘mine cave in’ yellow dress. She tells Ursula that Hugo should see the baby before he leaves to find Michelle. Ursula asks if it is just the baby that Hugo should see. Soledad gives her a look and Ursula says that it will give her an opportunity to see Boris.
Ester is sewing and Antonia comes in and says good morning. Ester asks where Antonia was last night. Antonia spins a tale of a rich friend of Paquito’s who wants to learn to play the piano but only at night. Ester asks his name and Antonia says, Oscar Sand. She produces the money that she earned and Ester is impactada. Antonia says that she promised to maintain the house.
Hugo is carrying around the letter unopened. Boris asks if he is going to read it. Hugo says that he has a strange feeling that this letter is going to change the rest of his life. Hugo notes that it was postmarked two days ago; the day that Michelle disappeared. Hugo reads the letter aloud:
Dear Hugo: I can’t express in words what I feel in my heart. I want to be yours but I can’t. First, because I feel that I am hurting Soledad. Second, because I see in your eyes that you have never stopped loving her. (Soledad and Ursula have come into the room behind him.) I was yours for the first time and it was beautiful but in your eyes and on your lips Soledad’s name was always there. As long as she is between us, we will never be happy. Not her, not you and not I. (Hugo gives a big sigh and put the letter down.) He says that is why she left San Marino without saying goodbye to me. He turns and sees Soledad standing there. Soledad tells Hugo that she couldn’t help overhearing him read the letter (she could have knocked). She says that Michelle was completely right to leave. Hugo says that he wasn’t expecting her. “You told me you were leaving town to find Michelle,” says Soledad, “I brought the baby so you could say goodbye to her.” Ursula has actually brought the blanket named Aurora but Hugo dutifully kisses it. Soledad starts to cry. She says the letter is horrible. Michelle must be suffering so much. Michelle is Soledad’s friend. She has been with Soledad in her worst times. “She saved my life,” says Hugo, “Thanks to her and Dr. Dan, I’m cured of catalepsy. But she has made her decision.”
S: Pushed by us, Hugo. It’s our fault. You need to go and talk to her. You must convince her that it’s not true; that’s she wrong.
H: No. No, Soledad. It’s true. However much we try and deny it.
S: No. There is no future for us. Out of respect for all the people around us: Dr. Dan, Michelle, my family and even Alcides, who have all been trying to persuade me, we have to separate. We have to take different roads. Please. You have to look for Michelle. Try to be happy with her – for us.
H: And you?
S: I know what I have to do. Goodbye Hugo.
Hugo suffers.
Alcides is lurking outside the Obragon house. He says that the only way to get past the security is to kill the guards. He says that there must be another way to get to the treasure.
Paquito tells Pierre that the opening of the cabaret was a big success. He is going to be rich. Pierre gives him the receipts and the bills and goes to bed. Paquito sees something on the couch behind him. He uncovers Deborah, one of his waitresses. She is dead. What a problem! (I may not have mentioned in yesterday’s recap that Deborah was the waitress serving Arturo at the cabaret.)
Hercu-less wakes up alone in bed. He calls for Margot. He wonders where she went so early. Margot is at the foot of Arturo’s bed. Arturo is dreaming a flashback to the May 2 episode when he vowed to wipe out Alcides and his family. Here is how I recapped that scene:
>>>Arturo is instructing his men on what they are to do: show no mercy and leave no witnesses. Gladis asks him what’s going on and why everyone is armed. Arturo tells her to get back to the kitchen; this is a guy thing (good luck there, Arturo. We know who really wears the pants in your family). Gladis demands to know what he is planning. Arturo says that he is going to kill Alcides and all his family, all of them. Gladis is impactada. She tries to get him to change his mind. Surely, as an intelligent man, he can think of a better way to get his money back than killing everyone? Once they are all dead, how is he going to get his money anyway? Arturo says he will plunder the hacienda. Gladis asks if he wants to spend the rest of his life in jail but Arturo says that he has the authorities under his control.<<<
Arturo wakes up and sees Margot. He asks what she is doing there.
Eloisa (in an amazing green dressing gown with huge ruched sleeves and her hair down) says that Alcides must have something very important to tell her to come this early.
Alcides says that it is hot in here. He takes off his coat. He can’t get to the treasure. However, someone with access to the Obragon house could do so. He wants to make a deal: Eloisa will go into where the treasure is and take the money they need. Eloisa is impactada.
Hugo is in the forge. He appears to be making a sword while the ‘Mi sufrimento,’ song is playing. In no time at all, he has a beautiful polished sword with a fancy gold hilt. “Soledad was right,” he says, “My future is with Michelle. Michelle, my belle.”
Dr. Dan has come to take Soledad to the hospital. Lucas says that she went out very early. She comes back in and asks Dr. Dan to wait a minute (she’s going for the ring, I bet). Lucas says that he knows Soledad very well. Something is going on. The Obragon witches come in. Antonia flashes back to meeting Dr. Dan in the cabaret but he doesn’t appear to make any connection. Soledad comes back and asks them all to listen to what she is going to say to Dr. Dan. She says that being his friend has been a privilege but from now on things are going to be very different between them. She says that she will marry him (‘Acepto ser tu novia’). Dr. Dan asks her to repeat it. Dr. Dan wonders if he is dreaming. Soledad shows that she is wearing his engagement ring. Dr. Dan is happy like a 6 year old who’s been given a lollipop. Ester happily and Lucas reluctantly welcome Dr. Dan to the family. Dr. Dan says that he didn’t expect an answer so quickly. Soledad says that she discussed it with her family and they all agreed that marrying him was a good idea for her and her daughter. Dr. Dan suggests celebrating at the new cabaret that evening and announcing his good news to all of San Marino. The cabaret is in the French style and has a wonderful pianist (I’m sure Ester would love it!). Antonia is impactada.
Paquito says that he doesn’t deserve problems like this right after the inauguration. He wonders who killed Deborah. He tries to think what to do. He tells the body that he has to get rid of her. He doesn’t know who did this or why but he can’t let it ruin him.
Eloisa ask if Alcides is asking her to go inside the treasure vault in the Obragon house without anyone seeing. Alcides says yes. Eloisa says that if the guards could see Alcides, they could see her. Alcides replies that as Soledad’s friend, she can come and go in the house without arousing suspicion. He says that the treasure vault has two entrances: one is outside in the garden near the patio and other… (first we’ve heard of a second entrance). Eloisa refuses to listen. She says that she doesn’t want to know anything. She believes Alcides is setting a trap to kill her. He wants her to enter the treasure vault and be killed.
Margot tells Arturo that she snuck into the house when Gladis and the maid went to mass. Arturo was asleep so she made him breakfast. Arturo is suspicious. He thinks she has come to spy on him for Alcides.
Hercu-less wanders around his house drinking milk (out of the bottle).
Dr.Dan is all excited about celebrating his engagement at the cabaret but Antonia is horrified. She says that it is a place of sin. Dr. Dan says that they can have a celebration at the house with the baby. Soledad says that she doesn’t want to celebrate at all. She says that she means it should just be a family event. Whatever, says Dr. Dan. Lucas, Ester and Antonia leave. Soledad turns around and Ursula has disappeared (we can guess where she’s gone!) Dr. Dan says to Soledad that now that they are alone, he would like the truth: why did she become his fiancée? A few days ago, she wasn’t sure. Was it for love or to distance herself from Hugo?
At the forge, Hugo is polishing the sword he made. He flashes back to giving the other sword to Michelle and to asking Michelle to give time a chance to heal his wounds. Boris comes in and says that without doubt, this sword is his best work to date. Hugo says that it will be a good present for Michelle. He hopes that she will forgive him. She is a great woman with a noble and generous heart. She doesn’t deserve to suffer. Hugo hands the sword to Boris, turns away and sighs, “Soledad.”
Eloisa says that she won’t fall into the same trap as Rebeca and Michelle. She won’t let Alcides kill her. Alcides demonstrates that he could kill her right now by drawing his guns. She agrees to go into the treasure chamber. Alcides tells her that there is an entrance inside the house where the guards won’t see her. Eloisa has three long and very bizarre flashbacks that seem to have absolutely nothing to do with the story.
Soledad tells Dr. Dan that she agreed to marry him for various reasons. He is a marvelous man, noble, good… Dr. Dan interrupts and says that he has a feeling she still hasn’t told him the most important reason. Soledad says that something happened that helped her make her decision and it was the letter that Hugo received this morning from Michelle. Dr. Dan asks when it was written. Soledad says that she doesn’t know but Hugo got it this morning. Dr. Dan says that Soledad just came back from seeing Hugo. She explains about taking the baby to say goodbye to Hugo before he goes after Michelle. She gets back to the letter. She says that it gives the reason that Michelle left San Marino and the main reason was her, Soledad. She feels guilty for that. Dr. Dan says that it is true then that Michelle left town. Soledad says yes, Michelle has returned to her country. That is one of the reasons Soledad has agreed to marry him. She knows that the only way for Hugo and Michelle to be happy is if she, Soledad, stays away from Hugo for good. Dr. Dan says then Soledad didn’t accept his proposal for his sake. She did it for Hugo. Soledad asks if Dr. Dan remembers that she told him before that she wasn’t ready for a new relationship. That hasn’t changed. Her heart hasn’t recovered. Dr. Dan kisses Soledad on the cheek and hugs her. The credits roll.
Tomorrow: Hugo carries Soledad off on horseback

I Love Juan Thurs 6/12 - "Don't mess with the bull young man. You'll get the horns!"
Kike sadly tells Delirio the bad news, Anga had a heart attack and is caput! Delirio claps his hands and says he feels like buying flowers. I think according to telenovela morality he has just reserved himself a jail cell.
Paula tells S2 that Anga died. S2 says (in front of Paula) that he wants to call Poor Pastor to console him. He is irritated to learn that Juan is already with Pastor. Bested once again by the chauffeur.
S2 bugs Paula AGAIN about their 'relationship'. Can't they just leave the door open? No, she insists, the door is permanently closed and so is this subject! "You're not leaving me," he mutters...after she leaves.
Juan tells Anga that Nidia accidentally unplugged his monitor with her purse and poor Gaytan nearly had his own heart attack. Anga is depressed, he says he should have died, what good is life when you don't have anyone to share it with? Juan tries to cheer Anga up but his weird antics annoy Anga. Juan thought bubbles that he'll not throw in the towel, no señor, Juan Dominguez doesn't abandon his friends. Anga looks pained.
La Doctora tells Pastor that Anga is OK but his condition is delicate. (No kidding sister, you broke his rib and almost killed him!) She says they should operate but unfortunately he has Very Rare Blood, B negative. Poor Pastor is sad because he doesn't have that blood type. He'll help find a donor because time is of the essence. (Oh my, I wonder where in the world he might find somebody with that Very Rare Blood type?)
S2 calls Pastor to offer his condolences and is impactado to hear that Anga is alive. S2 tells Paula and tries to brown nose her by saying he offered moral support to Pastor on behalf of the company.
Delirio visits Nidia in her room and pretends to console her. She calls him a hypocrite because he's skipping on one foot (jumping for joy). He tries to argue, saying she's crying for her LOVER, but she insists Anga was only her friend. She demands that he leave her alone with her pain. He tries the "we still have each other" ploy which only succeeds in making her look really irritated and fed up.
Marely comforts Nidia. The dramatic music begins and Nidia says Marely should know that Anga believed Yadi is his daughter.
At the hospital, Yadi runs to Pastor and sobs her eyes out, but not her makeup off. She must use industrial strength eyeliner. Pastor tells her they are the only ones who can keep Anga from deteriorating. "Que?!? Aren't there professionals for that?" she asks, "forensics or morticians or something? Why us?" Pastor figures out what's up with her and asks didn't Juan tell her? Anga is alive! She skips on one foot.
Uh oh, Hillary shows up at Farell looking for Juan. Rosi announces her to Paula who sarcastically says she'll see Señorita Paaahreees. Hillary greets Paula graciously as usual. Paula might have gone to college but she sure never went to charm school.
Anga is thrilled to see Yadi. She kisses his hand and says nothing would make her happier than to be his daughter, she should never have thought badly of him. He tells her she's eased his conscience and she cries until the nurse kicks her out.
Hillary wastes her breath by complimenting Paula. Paula smugly announces that Juan is out. Hillary reveals that she'll see Juan that night at the dinner to celebrate their engagement. Paula is muy, pero muy impactada.
Hillary fills Paula in on her relationship with Juan, he's so great, not a money grubber, simple, genuine, not plastic like so many others, at his side she feels like the most fortunate woman in the world. Pauls smugly agrees, of course! Hillary, always the lady (though a little tiresome in her accolades of Juan), leaves after thanking Paula warmly. Paula spits fire, "She thinks she's his girlfriend...he's an imbecile!!"
Back at the hospital Pastor and La Doctora walk down the hall discussing Anga's Rare Blood Type. Gosh, who should run into them but Yadi. Guess what? She's blood type B negative! Pastor thanks God and gives her a funny look, doesn't she think this is too much of a coincidence? She tells him she's given blood many times and so far the recipient has not been a parent, so no.
CL goes home enraged and pours himself a drink. He yells to Sandro that he doesn't want to spend another second in the same office where all his plans were destroyed due to the stupidity of a woman in love with that boor!
Paula tells Ivonne that Juan hasn't changed, he's betraying Marely with "that woman". Ivonne says that men are all cut from the same cloth. Paula bitches some more and Ivonne points out that Paula seems to be eaten up by jealousy and anger herself.
Rosi calls Paula's office and tells Ivonne that Juan just arrived. Ivonne and Paula are beside themselves, and I gotta say there is a veritable plethora of bosoms heaving in anger in this office. Ivonne makes horn signs and says on behalf of all women she should say something. No no no, insists Paula, Juan must be put in his place and she wants to do it!
Juan finally calls Marely and shares the good news that Anga is alive.
Ivonne reports to Juan and tells him there is a message from Hillary Paris. He is supposed to go to her place for dinner tonight. He pauses for half a second then gives her a work assignment, make a list of all the employees and find out their blood type. It's for Don Angarita and hurry up!
Nidia is STILL crying in her room. Marely runs in with great news, Anga is alive! Nidia asks if Marely is telling her this because she (Nidia) lies in suicide's arms? She saw him die, what happened? Marely tells her and we get another flashback of Nidia's offending purse. Nidia becomes happily hysterical and spins in circles.
Juan summons Fer to help out with finding a donor. Fer thinks his blood type is A. Juan tells him it's close to the bullet, but no. (Cerca de la bala, maybe means "close but no cigar"?)
Paula arrives and wants to talk to Juan. He looks at her stupidly and happily, she heard the good news, eh? Paula gets to the point, Hillary Paris stopped by and they had a good long chat. Juan gulps and thought bubbles that he wishes the earth would swallow him up. Paula's claws come out and she attacks...Heeeelary told her that SHE is Juan's official girlfriend! Paula calls him a cynic, how could he go with Hillary and Marely at the same time?
Pastor calls Nidia to tell her about Anga's operation. She excitedly says she's on her way down to give blood. Pastor reveals that Anga has a Very Rare Blood type and it turns out Yadi has the same. Nidia is muy impactada.
Juan tries to explain his predicament to Paula, that Hillary assumed they were novios and he couldn't tell her the truth in the middle of the meal and in front of everyone, and anyway he thought Marely was in Spain. He promises he will clear things up with Hillary that very night. Paula tells him he'd better because when he chose one novia he lost his chance with all the others, got it? Juan thought bubbles, "Check out how this one on sandals comes to click her heels at me!" (Meaning she's accusing me of the same thing she did to me. This is from our vocab list, hoorah!) He brushes under his chin and exclaims "Gorgeous!"
Gutis busts his way in to Casa Cachón and demands to speak with Delirio. He yells that his clients deposited much more money into the accounts than Delirio said! Delirio sheperds Gutis into the den under Nidia's spying eye. Delirio swears it must have been a bank error. He and Gutis argue over honor among thieves while Nidia's ear is glued to the door. Delirio finally admits he took a little but it was only for his commission. Gutis demands that it all get returned immediately or Delirio will never survive the wrath of Paula Davila when she finds out that Gutis and Delirio falsified Samuel Cachon's will. Nidia shakes her head and clenches her fist.
Pastor asks La Doctora to run a DNA test to see if Anga and Yadi are related.
Gutis loudly threatens Delirio that Nidia will find out Delirio never sacrificed anything for her, that he never spent time in jail for her. Delirio had better deposit the money back into the bank or else! Nidia scurries around the corner as Gutis blasts through the door. She faces Delirio and accuses, "You never went to jail for me?!?"
Ivonne asks Paula, is she making Juan toe the line on behalf of Marely or for herself?
Nidia calls Delirio all sorts of nasty names. He begs to talk but she interrupts with a whole new barrage of insults. He wheedles, she rolls up a paper and starts whacking him like he's a naughty dog, which of course he is. She insists she'll not spend another moment next to him. She tells him "This little flower bud (insert chomi chomi wiggle) just bloomed and is off to check her mail!" The despondent violins play in Delirio's head.
Marely finds Nidia packing and says she thought Nidia went to the hospital. Nidia tells her she's packing to go be with the man she loves. Marely reminds mama she's married. This sets Nidia off, Delirio never did anything for her except ruin her life! "This marriage is over!!"
Juan goes to Frankenstein's Castle where Hillary greets him with hugs and kisses, she's missed him so much. He tells her he has something important to say. He thought bubbles a quick prayer and tells her how horrible he is, all sorts of bad adjectives, plus he's a liar. "Are you breaking up with me?" she asks. "Sí."
Delirio goes to Nidia's room and has the nerve to ask where she's going. She answers that she's going...to her LOVER!! Marely's jaw drops (she's laying on the bed watching). Nidia shouts "My lover!" to the rooftops. Delirio gets on his knees then grabs her ankles, please stay! She steps on him, rolls her suitcase over his body, and exits.
Juan tries to break up with Hillary but suddenly Papa Plutarco Paris looms up, hears what's going on, and begins to breathe fire.
Delirio admits to Marely that all his sacrifices were a lie to retain Nidia. Marely tells him he's fooling himself, Nidia never loved him. She tells him to stop being pathetic and have some dignity.
Oh dear, back at the castle Papa Paris has Juan pinned on the ground and is strangling him. Papa is redder than a beet and looks like he's about to have his own heart attack. The butler pokes Papa ineffectually while Hillary begs him to stop, he's killing Juan. That's what he wants, he yells! Juan, getting blue in the face, gasps that he...can't...breathe...and any similarity to reality is purely coincidental.
Brincar en una pata = Jump for joy (Lit. skip on one foot)
Cerca de la bala pero no = Close but no cigar (Lit. close to the bullet but no)
Chulada! = Gorgeous!
Gañán = Boor, lout
Trágame tierra! = I wish the earth would swallow me up! (Lit. Swallow me, earth.)

Fuego 6-12, the Reyes' battle cry, once more with feeling: "I am so confused."
Oscar and Jimena try to convince Father Bouffy they're really in love: "I want her to be the mother of my children. Marry us right away!" "Jimena, have you thought about your mother's reaction?" "I'm not as noble as Sofia, I won't sacrifice my love. Get us married pronto!"
It turns out Rosario's dresser Ofelia is also her bouncer. She refuses to let Eva in, even when Eva says "I'm her mother." "She doesn't want to see you, get lost." Armando (formerly known as Moustache) watches.
Furd spends a lot of time in this episode tearing through the office, looking for the papers Bernardo has hidden which will prove Furd's guilt and prevent him from being lord of all he surveys. Gab keeps popping in on him and cheerily asking what he's looking for. "You're always working away, night and day, to make things good for us here at the hacienda." "What a mistake Bernardo made, to dump a beautiful gal like you for a floozie like Libia."
Talking to Bernardo's photo (Furd has removed the incriminating letter hidden in the frame) Gab announces: "Furd is right, you didn't deserve me." The next time Gab pops into the office Furd tells her it's his sacred duty to work so hard, then whispers salaciously: "I love your perfume, it's the scent of an exquisite woman, you need a man to love you as you deserve." He leans in very, very close.
Sofia is at her wimpiest in this episode. She staggers around leaking tears. Juan's not much better - when Oscar and Jimena (showing lots of midriff in church) bounce out of Father Bouffy's office they see Juan collapsed in a miserable puddle, he tells them he can't take any more and would rather die than lose Sofia's love. "It will all work out," that's the sage counsel Oscar provides.
After the commercial, Gramps tells Franco they've gotta talk about Franco and his two women. "Ah, Gramps, I'm so confused, I love them both, how I'd love to merge them into one." Gramps, who in general is the most sensible one in the entire show, delivers a demented monologue. "Women are like violets, they are hard to cultivate, they don't give themselves to just anyone, they are jealous, when they flower their beauty is unique, but if you don't take care of them they wither easily and one suffers from guilt. Do you want to watch two women wither for your sake?" (It's hard to imagine Rosario withering.) "Of course not. But I'm very confused." For some reason Eva is shown to be eavesdropping.
Rosario: "Ofelia, that woman [Eva] makes me queasy. What did she want? Did she have something to say to me?" Ofelia lies and says no.
Eva goes to the bakery and tells Gramps it's odd that he has more freedom here than at home; he says old folks, like children, mostly want affection and he's found it here. She tells him it's frustrating that Rosario won't see her and how will she find out if they are truly mother and daughter?
Furd strips, preparing to ravish Rosario, we get another look at the snake tattoo on his back. He calls her Sofia as he rubs himself over her. He later tells Moustache how Gab will do anything to keep him home, and has even suggested he find another woman to service his needs. "I'll find me a low-maintenance woman, one without baggage, and I won't give up Sofia or the hacienda, I'll have it all."
The Uribe boys are astonished, most unfavorably, to find their auntie Raquel has come home. In simultaneous announcements, Gab tells Sarita and Jimena they will be marrying the Uribe boys in a double wedding as soon as possible and Raquel delivers the same news to Tweedle dum and Tweedle dee. It appears the boys will lose their inheritances if they don't appease the oldsters.
Oscar tells Jimena not to worry, she'll marry him, not a Tweedle.
Sarita, though, is overwhelmed by her mother's barrage: "Sarita, I know you won't rebel, you won't be a putrid apple like your sisters, you're my pride, I'll see you happily married before I die - you know how delicate my health is - my heart is weaker every day - your sisters don't care, but they'll pay! You can get Gramps to come home, I'd beg on my knees but Juan won't let me in the bakery!"
Juan's brothers tell him he was awfully hard on Sofia. Sucking in his gut in a state of high emotion, Juan explains he'll never forget her, he's a man of one woman and will love her all his life. He suggests they go together down to the river, where they originally found their sister's corpse, and renew their vows of vengeance. This makes them all very cheerful.
Sofia leaks more tears and tells Eva she wants to die, she pardons Juan all his reproaches, she just wants to sleep forever. Eva goes to the bakery and reports to Juan: "Sofia wants to die after what you said. She will die of love." Then Eva goes off to the Bad Love Bar and, with terrible timing, accosts Rosaria just as she's about to go onstage and asks for a few minutes of her time. No surprise, Rosario brushes past her and goes on to sing a song about rejection, guilt, borrowed kisses, and lies. Eva is impactada, possibly because of the guilt she feels about Rosario or possibly because of the torch she carried for the married Bernardo.
At the bakery Sarita dutifully begs Gramps to come home, because his daughter Gab misses him so terribly. "Nuts, she just needs my signature on the bills, I signed things blindly when Bernardo was around but not any more. She's smart, using you this way, she'd have been a good Napoleon. Tell her I won't come back and I won't sign anything."
When Father Bouffy comes to the bakery to ask Gramps advice about Jimena and Oscar, Gramps is heartily in favor of their union.
Sarita goes home and reports on her failure to fetch Gramps back to the farm. "Is it true you want him for his bank accounts?" Gab denies it hysterically and makes a grand exit. Furd suggests Sarita tell her sisters they are killing their mother.
Sarita goes out riding on her horse and Franco follows her. Or is the other way around, who is stalking whom? They dismount, he grabs her and affixes his moray mouth to hers and there is bone-crushing suck, suck, suck. However, she appears to like it. Jimena watches from behind a bush. When Sarita runs away Jimena asks Franco: "What is this, do you love her or not?" "Of course I love her, but I love Rosario too, I'm confused." "You have to decide, don't mess with my sister." "I'll figure it out."
After a happy few hours excoriating Sofia and her tricks, Furd says he'll take her some tea. "Any other woman would want you for a husband," breathes Gab. Furd finds some ziplock bag of powder left over from Barrera de Amor and stirs it into Sofia's tea. "You'll be mine tonight." He takes it to her and watches closely as she drinks it. Soon she is sound asleep. I thought it was a date-rape drug but I think instead he's planning some sort of necrophilia abuse because Sofia is dead to the world. Then he leaves.
So joke's on Furd, because Juan comes in the window and talks to the completely passed-out Sofia endlessly about his love and strokes her hand and kisses her. [Some men prefer extremely quiet women, did you see that Almodóvar movie with two men madly in love with two women in comas?]
Suddenly Juan hears a horse whinny and shimmies down the drainpipe to escape. Furd, on the verge of ravishing the comatose Sofia, hears a whinny too and summons the hacienda workforce and their guns. Juan whistles, his horse comes running and he jumps on and escapes a la the Lone Ranger while Furd & Co. fire shots at his backside.
If there was a "tomorrow" I missed it, sorry.

La Traición, Wed., June 11 - It's show time at the cabaret and the rest is a lot of talkin' 'bout love
'What's the special tonight?' Oh sorry. Alcides broods over the annulment of his marriage to Soledad
The judge tells Soledad that the church has annulled her marriage. She now has no ties to Alcides de Medina. Soledad asks if Alcides knows. The judge says no, he will bring Alcides a copy of the order tomorrow. Lucas says that they have two reasons to celebrate: the return of his granddaughter and her freedom. Lucas asks the judge to find out who kidnapped his grandchild. The judge says that the investigation is ongoing and he will be notified when there is some conclusive evidence. The judge leaves. Soledad does not look that happy to get the news of her annulment and her mother says so. Dr. Dan tells Soledad that now she is free to give her heart to whomever she wants. “Free,” says Soledad to herself, “I’m a free woman. This document only freed me from Alcides de Medina but I’m not free because my heart belongs to Hugo.”
Alcides goes up to the judge outside the Obragon house. He asks if there is news about his niece. The judge is surprised that he doesn’t know. The baby has been found. Now all that remains is to find the kidnapper or kidnappers. Alcides says that is excellent news. He hopes that those responsible will be punished. The judge says not to doubt it. The judge tells Alcides that they were discussing him inside. He gives Alcides a copy of the annulment.
While he practices some fancy gun moves, Hugo says that Michelle is incapable of harming his child. He says that tomorrow morning he will go to the police and have them check out the footprints.
Cut to the boots that made the footprints. Arturo is saying to himself that at this moment, Alcides must be having trouble with Soledad and her family. “Prepare yourself, Alcides,” says Arturo, “this is just the beginning.” He calls the maid and asks her to shine his boots. He’s going out tonight to the new cabaret.
Paquito is helping Antonia put on her wig. He assures her that no one will know that she and ‘George’ are the same person. Antonia says that she hopes so. What does he want her to play? Paquito asks if she knows the Infernal Gallop by Offenbach. Antonia says that it is a little difficult but if she has the score… Paquito says not to worry. He wants to end the night with the cancan so his girls can lift their legs and create a sensation. Antonia asks if the girls can dance to that rhythm. Paquito replies that the choreography is the dancers’ problem. She should just play. (So the pianist has never rehearsed with the dancers. This should be interesting.) Paquito gives Antonia her money. Tonight she has to convince everyone that she is a man. He tells her to stand up straight, keep her legs apart and play wonderfully since she is European.
Dr. Dan tells the Obragons that he should leave. He will see Soledad tomorrow in the hospital. Soledad thanks him for all he had done. Dr. Dan says that she doesn’t need to thank him. He will always be there loving and respecting her and waiting for the day when she will accept him. Soledad says that she wants to talk about that later. He repeats again that patience is his greatest virtue. She should take all the time she needs. He leaves. Soledad asks why everyone is looking at her. Ester says that man who just left is a saint. Lucas says that Dr. Dan loves Soledad very much but he has learned his lesson and is not getting involved. No such luck with Ester. She tells Soledad that she should formalize her relationship with Dr. Dan as soon as possible. Soledad tells her mother that she doesn’t want to be rude but she should stop pressuring her. Ester pressured her to marry Alcides and that turned out to be a living hell. (You tell that witch, Soledad!)
Alcides is reading the annulment. He says that he never should have let his marriage in the church be annulled. He has ended up doing a favor for the little doctor (‘doctorcillo’). Alcides looks to heaven and says that this is absurd. It is as if a vengeful and mediocre god is trying to punish him when all he has done is love Soledad with his whole soul since he was a boy. Why? The duel should have been with his brother, Hugo, a clean fight to win Soledad’s heart. He says that had he known things would end up like this, he never would have divorced Soledad. Dr. Dan walks right past Alcides apparently without seeing him until Alcides says his name. They glare at each other.
Hugo is relaxing at the cabaña. Boris asks now that his daughter is safe, whether he is going to go after Michelle. Hugo says that he will take the first train after he goes to see the police in the morning. He is concerned that the kidnapper is still at large though. Boris asks if he suspects who might have done it. Alcides? Hugo says that he doesn’t think Alcides was involved. Kidnapping Aurora wouldn’t have benefited Alcides. “Who then?” asks Boris.
Antonia makes an inauspicious entrance into the cabaret. Her hand is crushed by male handshakes and she is shocked to meet Pierre, the topless waiter. Arturo comes into the place, is introduced to ‘George’ and looks at her curiously.
Ester is offended at Soledad’s accusation. She is only concerned about Soledad’s well being and that of her granddaughter. Soledad replies that she may not have expressed herself very well but the fact is that Ester pressured her to marry Alcides. Ester admits that was a mistake but that is in the past. Lucas says that we should learn from our mistakes. He asks Soledad if she likes Dr. Dan. She says that Dr. Dan is a great guy and would make a great father for her child but finally admits that she doesn’t love him. She is not ready to start a new relationship. In a resigned voice, Ester says that Soledad is still in love with Hugo de Medina.
Dr. Dan asks what Alcides is doing there. He is not welcome in the Obragon house. Alcides say that is none of Dr. Dan’s business. Dr. Dan replies that it is his business. He and Soledad… Alcides interrupts. He says that there is nothing between Dr. Dan and Soledad. Dr. Dan says that there will be something. Alcides replies that he heard Dr. Dan proposed and Soledad didn’t accept. Dr. Dan says that very soon she will accept. Alcides tells him not to fool himself. He should forget that woman. Dr. Dan thanks Alcides for the advice but says that he doesn’t need it. “I’ve been in love with Soledad since I was a child and she’s never returned my sentiments,” says Alcides, “Do you want to know why? Because her heart belongs to my brother. She loves Hugo.”
Hugo is thinking out loud. He says whoever kidnapped his daughter wants him and his brother to look bad in Soledad’s eyes. Boris replies that there is only one person who would benefit if Hugo and his brother fell into disgrace with Soledad. “Arturo de Linares,” says Hugo.
So far Antonia’s disguise is not working too well. Arturo says that ‘George’s’ face looks very familiar. Paquito spins a tale about George being a well-known European musician who is in town briefly. Since Antonia is a woman, she can’t help but be effeminate. “That’s what we need in this town,” says Arturo, “another pervert.” (In spite of the fact that Antonia hasn’t sat down at the piano, we can hear ragtime being played.)
Since Soledad hasn’t answered, Lucas concludes that Soledad is still in love with Hugo. Ester asks why Soledad can’t escape from the vicious circle she is in with that man. Soledad says that her mind tells her to leave Hugo but her heart won’t let her. Lucas says it is pointless to argue. But since Ester is still breathing, argue we will. Ester says that the only good thing that came from Hugo was Aurora and all the rest was pain. Soledad says that she can’t help what she feels. Ester once again urges to Soledad to get Hugo out of her heart and marry Dr. Dan and move away. Finally, Lucas gets up and asks what Soledad’s heart wants. “Hugo, papa,” says Soledad, “I love Hugo.” She starts to cry. This pointless argument continues after the commercial. Ester says that Hugo knows that she can’t get him out of her heart and is manipulating her feelings. Soledad denies this. Ester says that she always has to speak the hard truths in this family. She could just push Soledad into Hugo’s arms but she won’t because it is wrong. She begs Soledad to take her advice. Lucas says that unfortunately Soledad’s mother is right.
Dr. Dan says that he won’t discuss the details of his relationship with Soledad with Alcides. Alcides laughs and Dr. Dan says that he who laughs last… He will invite Alcides to his wedding. Alcides tells Dr. Dan once again that Soledad loves Hugo. Dr. Dan asks why Alcides is defending his brother. Aren’t they rivals? Alcides says that Soledad is his whole purpose in life. She may love Hugo but she knows he is no good for her while Alcides has changed and learned a lot. Alcides believes that in time Soledad will learn that he can make her happy. He tells Dr. Dan to stop sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong. Dr. Dan asks if Alcides is threatening him. “Take as you will,” says Alcides. He suggests that Dr. Dan leave town like Michelle. Dr. Dan says that he doesn’t believe Michelle went anywhere or at least not willingly. He is going to get to the bottom of that, too.
Paquito is nervous that the show is about to start. Eloisa comes in. Paquito points out that Arturo is there. Arturo looks in her direction but he sees Margot, not Eloisa.
Soledad tells her father that she can’t explain what she feels inside. When her daughter disappeared, she felt like she was going to die and when Hugo came, she felt at peace. She can’t explain it. Lucas says that it is love but some love can kill you. Ester comes in to say that she is concerned that it’s late and Antonia hasn’t returned home.
Dr. Dan comes into the cabaret sure that he will find a clue to what happened to Michelle here. He sees Eloisa. Margot says that Arturo is happy to be seen with her in a place like the cabaret. Arturo asks where Hercu-less is and Margot says that she thinks he is sleeping at Alcides’ hacienda. Arturo asks why Margot came to the cabaret and she says that she can’t stop thinking about him and then takes back what she said. Paquito announces the show and introduces ‘George Wild’ the pianist. The ‘Paquitas’ are introduced and they do about a 30 second cancan number. Dr. Dan is impressed with Antonia’s piano playing. After the performance, he introduces himself to her and compliments her on her performance.
Ester is concerned about where Antonia could be. Lucas says that she is an adult and can do what she wants. Ester and Lucas go to bed. Ursula comes in to say that the baby is sleeping. Soledad asks her to sit down. They haven’t had a chance for a talk. (So the baby has been left alone, then?) Soledad asks how things are going with Boris. Ursula says that things have been so hectic, she hasn’t much time to see him. And now that Hugo can’t come to the house, it will be even harder. Soledad says that if Boris really loves her, nothing will keep him away. He will do anything to win her heart. “Like Dr. Dan is doing everything possible to win your heart?” asks Ursula.
Dr. Dan asks Antonia to have a drink with him. They are both strangers to town. Antonia doesn’t even have to talk, just listen to him. They sit down at the bar.
Margot tells Arturo that she is tired and wants to go to her house. She asks if Arturo is staying and he says yes, of course. Who would want to leave with Paquito’s beautiful women here. Arturo perceives jealousy in Margot’s reaction. Margot denies being jealous. She has her husband. Arturo says then go back to her husband. Margot says that Hercu-less doesn’t know that Arturo released her. Arturo says that it sounds like he kept her a prisoner but yet she has spent the whole evening with him. Margot leaves and Arturo orders more drinks.
Soledad tells Ursula that she can’t forget Hugo or any of the memories she has of him. But he has filled her life with pain. Ursula says that it is because of that she asked about Dr. Dan. Soledad asks if Michelle left town because she thought there was something between Hugo and her. Ursula says that of course, she thought that. It is obvious that Soledad and Hugo still love each other. “But our relationship is impossible,” says Soledad. It isn’t her fault if Hugo and Michelle can’t get together. Soledad says that accepting Dr. Dan’s proposal and marrying him is the only way to make everyone happy (except you and Hugo, of course. Bad idea, Soledad).
Dr. Dan is drunk. He says that he doesn’t usually share his secrets with strangers but his usual confidant isn’t here. Has George heard about Michelle Phillips? Antonia shakes her head. Dr. Dan says that he misses her. Dr. Dan confides in George that he is in love with an incredible woman but she doesn’t return his affections because she is in love with another man. Dr. Dan says that it is terrible not being loved back. Dr. Dan tells George how much he loves Soledad but she loves Hugo. He says that he just ran into Hugo’s twin brother, Alcides. He says that Alcides really hates him. He swears to George that if Alcides doesn’t kill him first, he will win Soledad’s heart, love and affection. Even if he has to die, he will do it. He swears it. Dr. Dan is a weepy drunk.
Liquor sales are brisk at the cabaret and Paquito thinks that his success will make Eloisa respect him. He asks if she having a good time but she says that she is bored. She asks who the pianist is. Paquito asks why she wants to know. Eloisa says that the pianist seems very effeminate and Paquito wouldn’t want a rumor going around that the piano player is his lover. She leaves. Arturo asks a waitress to have a drink with him. Paquito sends George off to the dressing room and sits down with Dr. Dan. Dr. Dan says that George listens well but doesn’t talk much. He says that he feels like he has known George for a long time.
Antonia returns home. Soledad asks where she has been. She has been waiting for her. The credits roll.
Tomorrow: Soledad accepts Dr. Dan’s proposal.

Juan Q 6-11 - Anga's heart maxes out, Mar and Juan's news gets out, CL's pride gives out, Yadi finds out, Nid gets chewed out and I'm out of space...
We start with Sandro finding out that Juan and Mar got together. He doesn't see how this could happen with Juan's long list of women. CL assures him that Mar is very hormonal and out of control like the rest of the Cachon women and sooner or later she would fall for Juan too, besides this is nothing new and they are made for each other. He continues that luckily for him, Pau will now need a friend she can confide in about this and soon she will realize her mistakes and fall at his feet.
We then go through a round of everyone learning Anga was taken to the sickhouse. Nid gets the call from a taxi driver, distraught calls Pastor, Remo gets the call from said sickhouse and notifies Kike that Anga is crtical after a heart attack.
Juan asks Ivonne to get Hillary. She is surprised because he is with Mar, so wants to know what he wants. He tells her nevermind. She confesses she thought he would end up with Pau. He starts to stop her but then he gets "the call" about Anga.
"Sandro" goes into Pau to take advantage of his knowledge that Juan is with Mar, Laura told him, and oh, maybe she needs someone to vent to if she is upset.
Juan goes in to see Pastor and they will go to the hospital. Mar and Nid are still wondering about it too.
Sandro lays it on thicker, that Pau knows how much he cares for her. She puts him off.
At the hospital, Anga is babbling for Yadira and Nidia, Pastor is at his side yelling at him for not taking care of himself. He promises to call them.
Pau tells "Sandro" she knows that there is nothing between her and Juan, but she confesses that yes, he did mean everything to him. Her heart is full of him and she lied to herself, and there is no room for anyone else. She never should have married CL, and now she's learned the lesson. She doesn't want a relationship, and the only relationship they should have is a working one.
Pastor tells Juan Anga is in bad shape and wants the Cachon chicks. They discuss this and that Juan knows about Yadi's potential status. Pastor says the chicks have to come here now so this can all be cleared up. He feels bad he never helped Anga with this before. Juan promises to bring them.
Sandro lays on more that Pau is hurt right now, but with time that will fade and she will be able to accept a new beau. She swears she loves Juan and that her marriage was a sham. The best thing she did was separate from him even though it was too late and she hurt Juan so much.
Ooooooh this smarts for Sandro. He thinks Juan was just lucky. Pau says nope, he was destined for greatness his whole life. She says it was their fault for not seeing through the chauffeur in him and how great he really is. Life takes it's sweet time, but sooner or later puts things in their rightful place. "Sandro" doesn't want to hear any more and retreats to his office to curse said chaffeur.
Mar shows up at Farell, Ivy tells her everyone is out of sorts to see her back. She asks to see Pau and Rosi gives her the death stare and tells her she can wait "over there" because Pau is on the phone. Mar awkwardly walks away.
Juan goes to beg Nid to come to the hospital. She says no, now Anga wants to save himself because death is knocking. Juan thinks she shouldn't make these judgments and he deserves a change. He tells himself she is so stubborn and this is a matter of life and death. He makes the decision. He shouts after her that Anga's not trying to rob the cradle, instead he's convinced he's Yadi's Pa. Super Impactada face from Nid.
Marely chats with Pau who assures her that the job is hers despite Rosi, she always knew it was temporary anyway. Mar feels bad about displacing Rosi. Pau wants her to come back and can probably even find her a better post. Mar learns Anga's ill.
Nid has actually shut up. Juan wonders if she is ok she can't believe he just sprang this on her and didn't warn her first. Juan tells how Anga thinks this could be the case and she gets mad that he knows so much about her intimate details. She admits that due to the spirit of youth, she ate the torta before she married Samuel (did the deed) and says they didn't use protection, but she always counted by the method of the moon so this is impossible. He thinks well, this time maybe she counted wrong and Anga has good reasons to believe this is true. She agrees she needs to talk to him and she'll go to the hospital. He tells her to hurry up.
CL is complaining on the phone to Sandro that Pau sent him to hell and he curses Juan. Sandro tries to calm him that he'll let on to the others. he says he can't calm, he doesn't care, she has to be his. He starts to cry. Sorry little boy, but your dolly wants to play with someone else.
Pau and Ivonne are chatting and she is glad that Pau won't be his anymore. Pau says what? I was never his. Ivonne catches herself and says yes, but you know, you should fire him because he has never had good intetions here. Pau says she can't just fire him because of bad or personal feelings.
Cl thinks he maybe needs to resign and accept Pau is gone. Sandro tells him look dummy, she's been gone for a long time. He really starts to cry now and sucks on his fingers that he loves her and a love like theirs never dies, a montage of them together and having sex flash repeatedly on the screen as the bawling gets worse. He wants to know what side Sandro is on as Sandro continues to explain that what Pau is really seeing now is Sandro not CL.
At the hopsital, Nid apologizes to Pastor that this is happening. Pastor blames her for what she did, hating Anga without listening to him. She wants to know since when has he had this crazy idea about Yadi and Pastor says since he saw her birthmark and what he felt when they were together. Nid begs God's mercy.
In the rathole, Gutis and Perf are arguing about the accounts again. Perf shows him how much money there is and Gutis is in awe.
Nid is now in the hospital room telling Anga to save his breath. He says he's dying and needs to know if Yadi is his. She says she would love nothing better, but no, there's no way.
Yadi now finds out Anga is in ICU.
Nid confesses she also "did it" with Sam before marriage as a token proof of her love that he asked her for. Some token. She swears Anga was the first, but well, Sam was second, even if only a few days later. (Huh? How would you know for sure if there were only a few days?)
Anga feels his heart has deceived him because he was so sure. She wonders why he never told her about the suspicions before, she wouldn't have rejected him so. She tells him she loves him and needs him so he can't go to the tomb. He tells her she never should have married someone else. She feels bad about the pain she's caused, and she will find a way for Yadira to make it up to him. He says no, this is the end. And he codes. The machine flatlines, and the nurse can only worry about getting Nid and her big red handbag out of the room. I'm noticing the lack of quintessential "march of death" music here. Something is up.
Nid runs out and tells them all he's gone. Juan feels bad because Anga was like a Dad to him. Pastor is mortified. We see a line of medical personnel filing into the room.
Nid wants to die. Juan tells her to go with Kike and they will tell her where the viewing will be. She says his absence sucks out the life from her heart. Juan consoles Pastor who proclaims he's alone in the world now.
Back to the patient, and a female doctor is doing a bad defibrillator acting job. Sure enough, Anga opens his eyes and yells at her for hurting him. I love this, then the DOCTOR, turns to the NURSE, and yells at HER that this man isn't dead. Sorry, but what the hell kind of doctor defibrillates TWICE without checking this first, Please. It's ok, it's the nurse's fault. :( She swears he had no pulse. They figure out that Nid's visit caused the malfuntion. I've never seen this technique in a novela before, but we are treated to a highlighted zero in replay of the purse getting put on the monitor which disconnected the wire. Oh man. Get him out of that hospital now. He'd be safer in Perf's rathole!!
Juan tells Pastor to go home. Nid gets home and tells them Anga's gone. Everyone is impactado.
This same doctor goes out to Pastor and Juan and tells them she's sorry, that she tried to save his life but he suffered a fractured rib. Pastor says but at least he didn't complain, right? She says of course he did, he complained a lot! Juan says look, just tell us when we can take the body away. She says what body? He thinks she shouldn't joke at a time like this. She says but he's alive! The glee comes over the two of them. She explains the calamity. Only in TN land. They kiss and thank this doc. Ay Caray Caray!!
Now everyone gets the other call, he's gone. Mar tells Pau. Pau tells Ivy. Nid cries to Yadi that she lost the man she loved the most...uh except for your Pa. Yadi says well, remember he was a slime anyway. Nid says no way that man was faultless. She drops the bomb, he did all that thinking you were his daughter. HUH??? Yadi says? Why? The birthmark. That's crazy, that means nothing, besides I was born 9 months...Ma??? You were with this guy before you were married??? You said you had a platonic relationship!!! Nid says 99% platonic. Yadi says, then I'm not my father's child?
Juan and Pastor are relaxing over lunch now, Juan saying they should tell Nid. Pastor says no rush, that woman can suffer a little longer after what she did to my brother. Ouch.
Yadi now wonders how Nid could have kept this from her and she says she didn't know what was going on in Anga's head. Besides, she's sure that Yadi is Sam's, she only had one encounter with Anga, but several with Sam, so Yadi has to be Sam's. Oh is that the science of reproduction these days? Nid asks for forgivenss. Yadi says that is going to take her a lot of work. Besides, how does she ask forgiveness of a man who dies thinking she was his daughter and she couldn't be with him in his last moments. Nid says she wasn't thinking, and Yadi says she never does, nothing is ever her fault. Y-I thought the worst of this man and all he wanted to do was help me. Nid says but you aren't his. Yadi says that's not the point, he died thinking I was. Nid says, no, I cleared it up before he died. Yadi says, well what you think is the truth. Nid says I'm almost sure. Almost. Yadi says, yeah and that's maybe what killed him, huh?

Al Diablo Con Los Guapos #98, Wednesday 6-11: And she'll have fun, fun, fun, 'till her daddy takes the T-Bird away
I also haven't missed the multitude of requests for a photo and I promise, I haven't forgotten! I just need to find a decent picture somewhere or get Mr. 5ft to take one--it'll get done eventually.
On with El Show…
Florencia tells Alejandro her Aunt Flo is a week late and he reacts by looking constipated, which pisses off Florencia. Eventually he comes around and says he's really happy.
Mateo is upset that Gramps wants him to sign a pre-prenup. Gramps is like, "We're lawyers, this is how we settle things…wouldn't we ask a client to do the same?" This finally gets Mateo to sign. Wow. I didn't expect that. Maybe he read it quickly enough to find the loophole? Gramps is happy, though.
Constancio tells Padre Manuel he can't donate any money for the poor orphan kids since his capital's all tied up. But, hey, he'll start a foundation once he's elected and name it after Padre Manuel. PM's like "whatever, the poor orphan kids need a place to sleep, yo!" Constancio goes back to his office. Mili has heard this conversation and catches PM on his way out the door. He gives her a big sad face, but says everything's fine. Mili chokes on her rabia that Constancio is being "codo" (cheap) and not giving any money to the convent.
Gloria is hanging with Sor Cachete in the convent kitchen. She's upset, but SC doesn't know what about yet. SC asks her to take a lemonade to Angel in the library. And the matchmake is on!
Mili screams and whines some more in the kitchen. Hugo comes looking for her and she fills him in on Constancio's cheapitude. She calls him a "mondrigo" (can't find a translation for that one) and "cuenta chiles" (ok, so literally counts chiles…I guess it's another colorful expression that means "cheap"). She has to explain to Hugo that it's not just about the money, it's his attitude. Hugo offers to make a big fat donation, but Mili wants help with a plan to both get money and stick it to Constancio. Lina walks in just then talking about Constancio's badass new sports car. Oh, Mili really goes off now, especially when Lina says that Braulio says it must have cost an arm and a leg. Mili now gets a brilliant idea: "Kids, prepare yourselves to sell raffle tickets!" Oh, I did that once--we sold them for $10 each and it was tough to get people to try to risk that much money, even if the prize is a new car.
Gloria delivers Angel's lemonade and they check each other out. I think Angel's way cuter than Chamuco. I think Angel's slightly more enamoured than Gloria. Sounds like Angel does have some family, but he's here to earn money and help them out. Gloria tries to rush off, but Angel makes eyes at her and asks her to stay and chat. Sor Cachete watches, visions of cute little brown-haired babies dancing in her head.
Angel goes chasing after Gloria in the convent halls to ask her out to the movies. She agrees to be friends, but not to go to the movies with him alone…that's a boyfriend/girlfriend thing. She tells him she's already got a guy. Angel seems horrified that she's dating a guy named "Chamuco."
Valeria is in the kitchen, complimenting Socorro on the coffee and asking for cream on the tostadas. Karla tries to get out of fetching it by saying she has to watch Valeria, but Socorro gets her to do it. Sheesh, all she had to do was turn around and go into the refrigerator. While her back is turned, Valeria pulls a little pink piece of paper out of her bosom and slips it under her coffee cup, then asks Socorro, with a pointed look, to serve her some more. Socorro takes the cup, turns her back to Valeria and Karla, and slips the paper into the mouth of a fish. Then Socorro, giving Chamuco a pointed look, tells him the fish is no good and to bring back another one tomorrow. I don't know if Chamuco gets the whole thing with the note, but he doesn't complain about the fish, just wraps it up in newspaper and leaves. Valeria gives Socorro a really warm "thank you," which makes Karla suspicious, but they claim it's only about the coffee. Whew, that was a lot. I guess I could have just said Valeria passes a note to Socorro who passes it to Chamuco, but it's too late for that now!
Alejandro tells Bobby that Florencia's preggers. Oh, only he says "It seems that…." Bobby can't tell whether he should say he's sorry or congratulations. Alejandro's not making it any easier. He says he's excited to have a kid, but Bobby's not buying that. Alejandro says it will help him forget Carlitos, his sister.
Marisela congratulates Florencia. They plan to tell Big Bad Daddy she got pregnant on the honeymoon. Florencia lies and says Alejandro took it well and looked happier than ever. Delusional, that one. Marisela says she should have waited until she was sure. Florencia hasn't even peed on a stick yet. She and Marisela go off to get one.
Hugo, Mili, and Lina show up at the convent in Constancio's new car. Hugo still doesn't know what this is about! Mili announces they're raffling off the car. She sets the girls to selling raffle tickets. It sounds like an easy sell with the car sitting right there. Hugo finally objects that what they're doing is a crime, but Mili's all about the larger crime of kids going without a place to sleep.
Constancio screams about his new car being missing. Braulio doesn't know where it is and just gives a confused look.
The raffle tickets are a big hit and they're almost sold out. Hugo's having a hard time keeping people's hands off the car. Gloria finally asks what happens if someone wins the car--she thinks it was meant to be a scam. Mili fully intends to have a legitimate winner and to let them take off in the car.
Chamuco brings in the fish to the vulcanizadora. He says it's a message from Valeria…oh, no, that sounds like "you're sleeping with the fishes!" Don Pepe says the same thing. Horacio says it means Rocky should bathe more often. Chamuco tells them about the note and Rocky fishes it out. Oh, and also, the fish is really stinky as evidenced by body language and facial expressions of the vulcanizadora crew.
Angel has fixed the door to the library and now Sor Cachete wants him to fix the pews in the church. She asks about Gloria. Angel says he likes her, but there's no point since she's got a boyfriend. Sor Cachete tells him to steal her away.
Mili has a box with all the raffle tickets and is getting ready to pick a winner, right there in front of the convent, five minutes after she started selling tickets. And oh, did I mention, her poop doesn't stink. Sorry, usually I like Mili, but sometimes she's just too much. Mili calls out the wining number and Lina won the car! The crowd objects, but Lina says she bought the ticket and won fair and square! The crowd mobs Mili while Lina gets into her new ride.
Rocky hasn't told the guys what the note said yet. Chamuco and Horacio speculate until Horacio tells Chamuco to get to work and do some sweeping. Rocky tells Horacio not to bug him…he's studying plumbing…from a book titled "Plumbing 1-2-3." Oh, this sounds promising.
Hugo is giving all the money back. Lina is upset she doesn't get to keep the car, even if she did win. Mili is pissed off at her. Constancio comes up in a police car happy that he found his car. Lina tries to make a case for why she should get to keep the car. This goes about as well as can be expected.
Alejandro comes over to see his baby mama. She tells him Marisela has just left to go see Bobby. Alejandro asks if Aunt Flo has come to visit yet, which she hasn't. Alejandro tells her he was telling Bobby he'd really like to have a kid. Florencio says she bought a test, but she hasn't done it yet, she wanted to wait for him. Smoochies.
Constancio chews Mili out for stealing his car. She tells him he's cheap and Padre Manuel needs the money. Mili tells him he only gives money to wash his conscience. She gives him the guilt trip about being rich while poor little orphan kids starve. She asks him why he needs such a flashy car…especially at his age! Ooh, snap! Mili tells him to give it to Padre Manuel to raffle off. Constancio asks if she's crazy and Mili says she must be to think Constancio was going to be generous. Ha!
The deed is done, but Florencia is not pregnant after all. She's upset that she got his hopes up. Alejandro says it'll be better when it finally does happen.
Constancio hands over the keys to the car to Padre Manuel. Mili walks in just as Padre Manuel says "your daughter." Padre Manuel fakes that he was confused about who convinced Constancio. She pushes him to have another raffle. Constancio tells him he should just sell it--he'd get more money that way. Mili says, "Thanks, Don, you're like a dad to me…do you like me like a daughter?" Constancio gulps as Padre Manuel looks hopeful. Give it up PM, if you've been watching this show you know it's not gonna happen. Commercials. Mili pushes for an answer. "Is it so hard for you to imagine me as a daughter?" PM tries to cover (I can't see why since he knows Mili knows the truth--why try to protect Constancio from answering the hard questions?). Constancio eventually says he thinks it's a ridiculous conversation. Mili gets teary and thanks him for the donation, but she won't look for him. She asks him to forgive her for scaring him (with the car, one assumes). Constancio tells her he actually feels good about donating the car and he hopes she believes him because he's telling the truth. Mili says he doesn't know how to tell the truth, but she won't explain herself and leaves. PM gives him the death glare and chews him out for not telling the truth, yet again. More of the same arguments from PM and the same excuses from Constancio. This time he adds that he's hired a detective to tell Milagros that her dad is dead. He says Mili can go on, then, without that shadow following her. PM says the shadow is following Constancio, not Mili.
Florencia and Alejandro snuggle on the couch. Florencia weeps about how she's let Alejandro down, etc. Alejandro reassures her.
At the servants' dinner table, Lina complains about not getting the car. They have to explain to Braulio. Socorro wonders where Mili is, since she usually eats with them. That spiteful heinous beeyotch Karla says she's either in Hugo's room or Alejandro's, "you all know how she is." Gloria tells her to shut it and calls her a snake.
Padre Manuel tells Mili that if Constancio wasn't going to come clean, Mili should have confronted him. Mili says she's going to keep giving him the beatdown until he finally admits it. There's a big futbol metaphor here that I'm not going to get into. We've all heard Mili's reasoning before. PM tells her about the detective. Mili already knew, from Braulio, and she's planning some kind of surprise. Mili says he's lost her forever, there will be no forgiveness from her. Especially since now she's blaming him for Alejandro too. PM silently asks God for a way to tell Mili that she and Alejandro aren't siblings…um, I think, "Milagros, Alejandro isn't your brother" would work just fine.
Andrea comes into Constancio's office to tell him the board room is ready. She mentions he looks tense, but he won't say why. He actually says he's not in the mood for her. Well, I guess he forgot to pick up his Viagra refill this month. Andrea keeps trying to get into his pants. Constancio tells her he's having accounting issues and possibly missing money, but he can't say from where yet. He asks her to leave him alone while he looks things over before the meeting. Wow, it appears he actually doesn't suspect her. The accountant (I think) calls and Constancio confirms that "it" is all set up and that this guy's getting a raise. Damian comes in, leaving his jacket while he goes to the bathroom. Constancio uses the opportunity to plant some evidence. He mutters something about Damian being fired (I think--"liquidado"). Then he yells out to use the air freshener. Classy.
Hugo has driven Luciana and Mili both to the board meeting. Hugo points out to each of them that they don't need to be there--Luciana because she doesn't have shares and Mili because she has Mateo to represent her. Mili goes off to have a private word with Mateo, who has just shown up, much to Hugo's displeasure.
It would appear that Damian had a spare Viagra in his coat pocket, since Constancio comes out to the reception area and macks on Andrea. Luciana walks in on them and tells them to carry on. Since they won't she says she's got something to say to both of them--she wants Andrea fired.
Mili's mad at Mateo, she thought they were friends, etc. Mateo makes his explanations about what Mili overheard at Grandpa's, although it's that old man sweater buttoned all the way up to the chin that he really should be explaining. He says he doesn't need money and that if it helps, he'll go into the board meeting and resign as her representative. Why doesn't he just show her the pre-prenup? He tells her he wants her, not her money and Mili is impactada. Seriously, that's the note they want to end on?
Tomorrow: Hugo tells Mili he's thinking of giving her up because he loves her and she and Alejandro are miserable, plus they won't tell him what's going on. Mili tells Hugo she and Alejandro are siblings. Hugo is impactadissimo!

Fuego, Wed., Jun. 11: Well I certainly hope she can chew that from six feet under.
Anyway, here we go…
So Frankie and Sarita catch their sibling counterparts making out in the woods. As always, the “monjita,” not to be confused with the alcoholic beverage, goes-off on her usual rant. Oscar makes a few faces at his brother and Jimena tells Sarita to loosen up, or else she’ll die “alone, virgin, and a martyr.” Sarita doesn’t care and will tell mommy. Jimena threatens to go live with Gramps. Oscar likes the idea of four guys and one girl; the odds are good for at least two of them! Sarita marches off pouting like the mature adult woman she is. Franco follows her. He asks her if she wants to be a nun. She doesn’t answer. He feeds her some line about how loving each other would bring them closer together, especially if kisses were involved. She, again, gets mad, doesn’t really say anything, and goes off pouting.
Benito and Octavio are looking over the plans for the new joy club they are building in town. Octavio congratulates Benito for his relationship with the rich heiress Sarita. Soon they’ll be married, and that will take the pressure off of Octavio. Eugenia, who is Benito’s real love, is standing in front of Benito while all of this is going on, and she walks away crying. Benito follows Eugenia and swears that he doesn’t even like Sarita. Eugenia’s worried that he’s going to go off with some girl from his societal class, and she walks away.
All these characters are so rude; the only thing they can ever do is walk away when they’re mad or upset. Did they ever consider talking about their problems up-front? Then again, that would flush half of our three-month-misunderstanding plots down the drain.
At the bar/club/stable/hooters we see Rosie come down from the ceiling in a cage. She’s singing about how it’s a shame she lost the man she loved because he didn’t know how to love her. What did any of this have to do with a suspended cage? Anyway, the important thing is that she and Franco share some looks.
That crazy woman who hides Luisito among the cardboard shelters is yelling at Pablito and his granny. Allegedly Pablito stole something, but never trust a psycho-woman’s word. She’s a freak in every sense of the term and can’t stop swinging her hips, swirling her head or wriggling Luisito’s arms. She blames Luisito for something… This reminds me of Elaine from Seinfeld in her most memorable rendition of STELLA!!!
Speaking of crazy… Fernie is in his office yelling at his goon that he’s mad that Sofia wants to help run things around the hacienda. Logically, this would mean that he couldn’t embezzle funds anymore, which naturally makes Fernie mad. Thus he throws the grown man across the room and onto the couch. Fernie receives news that Franco has arrived. He grabs his whip and heads out on the war path.
Meanwhile, Frankie sees Rosie in the club. She tells him to never come back because he called her a bad woman. He can’t stop thinking about her and therefore can’t stop seeing her. I’m just going to make this comment right now. She is a perra! She is a bitch to Eva for no reason, she’s a bitch to Sofia, and she’s a bitch to Frankie. She’s always telling people who care about her to go away and never come back, and then ends up crying about it. My theory is that she lives near some nuclear-waste plant which is not only responsible for her large “girlfriends,” but also for her lack of brain cells and clothing. Actually, the waste plant probably caused many of Juan’s problems too.
So Fernie is talking to his faithful, whig-wearin’, sidekick. They talk about how much money they lost in that little fight they had with the Reyes bros. “It would probably be cheaper to get rid of them once and for all” says whiggy. Fernie agrees and says that they will have to set a trap.
The Reyes bros. are standing around in their house just looking at each other in the dark. Don’t judge them too badly; this is the only thing that they really know how to do. Juan opens a trunk. “What is this obvious link to our past that has been sitting in plain sight for years but we have never opened before now?” He asks. Not really, but you know how things are… Anyway he opens the trunk and finds old papers that are neatly put away in plastic coverings. He’s determined to find out who killed his parents. He opens a map and claims that “this land” is theirs.
Octavio is talking to his boyfriend. He saw the bricklayers with the Elizondo sisters. He says that they are in love. Octavio is surprised.
Jimena and Sarita are talking. Jimena wants to get married as soon as possible. Gabby overhears this and wants to know where the girls went. They lie and say that they went to see Gramps. Why can they fool her when it’s really obvious, yet incriminate themselves when they clearly didn’t do anything? Gabby wants to know when Gramps is coming home. The girls tell her that he will be staying indefinitely with the Reyes bros. “Esto es el colmo.” This is the only comeback Gabby ever has. “This is the last straw!” She says that Gramps has stooped really low in staying with those dirty bricklayers.
The Reyes bros. are sitting in a circle in their bedroom. Juan is remembering the laughter of the man who killed his parents. He sees the snake belt again. He also remembers the huge hacienda in which they all used to live. His mother would read to them and everyone was happy and comfortable. He remembers a swing that he would use to fly to heaven. He would also climb the highest trees to look out over Mexico and plan to conquer all the lands he could see when he grew up. He also mentions that his father carved “F.R.” in the tree.
Of course, all of this happened before NAFTA and the nuclear-waste plant which made the brothers crazy.
Ironically, and of course not planned, Sofia is hanging around the same tree that Juan used to climb. Fernie grabs Sofia and starts to kiss her. She says that he can only have her by force. “Rape me, rape me.” How can he resist? Well, the important thing is that he does. Sofia blames him for ruining her life. He leaves and she falls to the ground crying.
Oh goody. The bros. are visiting the Libia shrine in the scary cave. They brought her bread. Well I certainly hope she can chew that from six feet under. Friends, I know you all are smarter than the average Juan, but please don't try to feed your dead loved ones; they will only end up with indigestion from eating lying down. Juan admits that he is trying to forget about Sofia, but try as he might, he ends up loving Sofia more and more. Frankie and Oscar are praying to Libia, who has no ethereal powers anyway, that Sarita and Jimena have nothing to do with Libia’s death. These guys are idiots. Why don’t they consider praying to God, or other gods who have been internationally recognized as divine spirits for thousands of years? I’m telling you, this praying to barbed wire and handmade handicrafts is all a product of the nuclear-waste plants.
Gabby won’t let Eva leave the house. Here we go again. Another adult woman isn’t allowed to leave because Gabby said so. Eva- you’re bigger than Gabby. Take her down! Anyway, Eva admits that she suspects Rosie to be her daughter. Slightly amused, Gabby says that her daughter is probably some piece of trash that would embarrass her, and she would never receive forgiveness from God.
Sofia is sitting by what used to be Juan’s tree. She remembers all the times they kissed and the time they had sex. Which reminds me that a baby is in store. I will be mad and even more incredulous of this telenovela (if that’s even possible) if Sofia isn’t pregnant soon. Need I explain why she would be?
Fernie, as always, (I use this term a lot, but what do you want from a recapper who hears the same thing over and over again from this TN?) is mad that he isn’t getting any from Sofia. Gabby says that she’s aware that sex is all that men think about, and therefore tells him to find a lover. He, surprised, asks how and why. Gabby says to find one who won’t cause any problems. Why not use the recently constructed cabaña; it could be their little love shack.
Sofia and Juan lock eyes. Nothing happens. Then Gabby tells Sofia that she is going to let Fernie and Sofia run the hacienda together. However, if there is one error, Fernie gains back all the control.
Juan is having a hissy-fit out at the cabaña, and is throwing expensive merchandise against the brick foundation. He’s mad that Sofia doesn’t want to be with him. Juan’s brothers tell him that he’s pretty much crazy and that if he keeps on like he is, he is going to lose his own family. Juan starts to cry and hugs his brothers. “Women will never get between us.” Yeah right. So strange, so cliché, so overstated…
Fernie talks to Sofia when they are alone in the chapel. He is surprised that she and Juan have been together so often. Fernie says that he is going to go pray for her father and pray for her forgiveness because the only thing he has ever done in life is love Sofia.
Oscar and Jimena kiss and Oscar says that he is going to talk to the priest about marrying her today. They kiss, and even bite each other’s lips.
Frankie wants to talk to his “monjita” about getting married. She admits that she is going to marry, that is, marry Benito. “He’s an expert in love.” Frankie says that he asked her for forgiveness and that he has repented and recognized his errors. He starts to walk away and then asks her to stop bothering the people that actually love each other. That Frankie, what a player!
So the city slickers are discussing the plans for the new joy club. They are trying to figure out a way to attract clientele. Benito is more worried about the marriage proposal.
Gabby goes to the Uribe house wanting to talk to the future son-in-laws, but finds their aunt instead. Apparently they are long-time friends.
Accountant Sofia is reviewing the ledgers. Something just isn’t right… What can it be? Never mind that, she finds a picture of her dad and becomes emotional. She really needs him. “What would you tell me to do?” she asks her dad. “Wake up and smell the coffee” for starters.
Fernie is in the in-home chapel. He tells his ex-father-in-law that Bernie and Sofia are exactly the same: rebellious, stubborn, and stupid. Then Fernie remembers Bernie’s death. Fernie promises to be the boss and owner of the hacienda.
Sarita is writing a love letter to Frankie. She tries to hate him, but she just ends up loving him more. She recognizes that they will never be together.
Eva is waiting on Rosie. Rosie’s fake mother tells Eva to go away. Eva refuses and tells the fake mom that Eva is Rosie’s mother.
We then learn that Fernie keeps two books so that Sofia won’t notice anything. Poor Sofia, she obviously didn’t learn about the “two books theory” in Accounting 101. Fernie finds the same picture that Sofia was looking at, and discovers that it is attached to a letter from Bernie. Bernie says that he wrote the letter to Fernie because he knew that he was rotten and that Bernie had hidden various letters throughout the house to prove Fernie’s crimes. Bernie says that Fernie will never own the hacienda. Naturally, we won’t have the last convincing letter until the last week of the show when it will be used in a court of law to convict Fernie of raping Sofia.
We see Sofia at the Reyes’s bachelor pad. We hear what sounds like an owl. Nope, it’s just the English-speaking Quintina. Sofia came to see Juan. He’s not there and Sofia doesn’t want Quintina to tell Juan that she was there.
Gabby is talking to Benito’s aunt. She wants the Uribe boys to marry the Elizondo girls as soon as possible. The two women are in accordance.
Padre Tadeo doesn’t want Oscar to get married so fast. They talk about it and then Jimena walks in saying that they are to be married.
Sofia is in the church when Juan walks in. He prays next to her. Notice how they always show the two in front of a church facing God with Juan on the left and Sofia on the right. Now this is an obvious symbol of their wedding day, which won’t be realized until the last episode in October. A little early to start hinting at things, eh? Juan wants to know if Sofia forgot about him. She leaves him guessing.
Tomorrow: Gabby tells the girls that they will be marrying the Uribe boys as soon as possible. The Uribe boys’s aunt tells them that they will be marrying the Elizondo girls. Fernie gives Sofia some spiked tea and says that she will be his tonight. Eva tells Juan that Sofia is not well. What a good night for Melinama! I won’t be with you guys next week, so my dear friend Julie will be covering next Wednesday. Hasta luego.

Pasión de Gavilanes, Tues & Wed., June 9 & 10 - The party for the opening of the fashion center has lots of consequences and Dínora gets busy
Eva looked so nice in her evening wear as opposed to the frumpy uniform type outfit she usually wears.
The Óscar/Jimena/Leandro carry on was amusing. Leandro looked very nice dressed up in the flamenco outfit.
Once again, the hired killers mess up (fortunately). Good thing there was that gun in Sara's car.
Now I want all the people who said that it didn't make any sense on LT for Hugo to believe that Soledad had betrayed him with Alcides to say that it is reasonable for Norma to believe that Juan was having a relationship with Dínora. It is ridiculous to believe that a straight shooter like Juan would betray Norma but his is novela standard operating practice. The lies of the evil ones are always believed so that the principals can eventually reconcile.

La Traición, Tues., June 10 - Hugo finds the baby; Boris finds a clue; Dr. Dan doesn't believe Eloisa and Antonia becomes George
Arturo watches Boris going into the cabaña. He says that he should leave. No one must suspect that he was involved in taking the baby. “You were lucky, Aurora,” says Arturo, “you will be saved but not you, Alcides.” He says that soon the baby will be discovered on Alcides’ property and everyone will think that Alcides kidnapped the baby. Outside the cabaña, Boris says that it is strange that a window has been broken.
Someone is banging on the door of the Hacienda. Marina opens the door. It’s Dr. Dan come to see Alcides and he’s angry. Marina tells him that Alcides isn’t home. Dr. Dan demands to know where he is. Marina replies that Alcides isn’t in the habit of telling her where he goes. “Tell Alcides de Medina that Daniel von Chirac is looking for him and wants him to face the consequences (‘que me de la cara’) .
At the Obragon house, Soledad is still dreaming old dreams that have nothing to with the story. She wakes up saying that she hoping that all this had just been a nightmare. Hugo says that now she is awake, he will go look for the baby. Lucas asks where he will look. Hugo says that he doesn’t know but he will find the baby whatever happens. Hugo kisses Soledad’s hand and promises that he will bring her the baby safe and sound (‘sana y salva’) and she should take care of herself. Hugo leaves. Soledad suffers.
In Rebeca’s house, Alcides searches for suitable material in Michelle’s diary. He finds the perfect entry. Eloisa wants to read it but Alcides says the less she knows the better. Eloisa asks Alcides when he is going to pay her for keeping Michelle from talking to the authorities. Alcides says that he can’t pay her right now. Eloisa doesn’t understand. Alcides has a huge treasure; why is he playing games with her? Alcides says that right now there are guards that are preventing him from getting access to the treasure. Eloisa asks what he is going to do. “I’ll think of something,” says Alcides, “have a little patience.” Dr. Dan is heard outside calling for Eloisa.
Boris goes inside the cabaña and leaves the luggage. He does not see the baby. “The cabin in the forest, what memories!” he says (probably remembering when he was trapped in the basement and escaped seconds before Alcides blew the place up with dynamite and it burned to the ground only to miraculously rise again from the ruins.) “What dust (polvo)!” he says. It needs new curtains (cortinas) too. (Being as observant as most men, he fails to notice a baby in the house.) The kid who helped him bring the luggage says that it is starting to rain and they should leave. Boris leaves without seeing the baby who is playing with what looks like a sprig from a pine tree.
Ursula asks Soledad to forgive her. If she hadn’t left the baby alone, this never would have happened. Soledad says that only the person who took the baby is to blame. She says that they have to find the baby before she has another catalepsy attack.
Dr. Dan says that he needs to talk to Eloisa about something important. Alcides tells Eloisa to distract the imbecile while he leaves. No one must know that he was here. Eloisa prepares herself and goes out to meet Dr. Dan. He says that it isn’t a social visit. He was looking for Alcides and didn’t find him so he has come here to tell her about some important things. Eloisa asks if the baby has been found. Dr. Dan says this isn’t about that. “I’ve come to tell you that I am not convinced by your story about the abrupt departure of Michelle,” says Dr. Dan. Eloisa asks what he means. Dr. Dan says that he doesn’t believe that Michelle only said goodbye to Eloisa before leaving.
Hugo and Boris are in the cabaña. Boris says that he is glad Hugo got his telegram. Hugo says that when he got it, he returned on another train. He says that he went to Soledad’s house and she was in bad shape. Boris replies that he can imagine. Boris asks Hugo how he knew that Boris was in the cabaña? Hugo says that he doesn’t know anyone more efficient than Boris and he figured that Boris would have brought the luggage here after they left the hotel. Boris thanks Hugo and asks if he has any idea where the baby could be. Hugo says that he doesn’t have the slightest idea. He is going to change his clothes and go out looking for the baby. He needs Boris’ help. Of course, Boris says that Hugo can count on him. Hugo says that his search for Michelle will have to wait. Right now, nothing is more important that finding the baby. Just imagining that she might be in the hands of some unscrupulous person, hits him in the gut. At this moment, the baby makes a noise. “Do you hear what I hear?” asks Hugo. “Yes,” says Boris, “she’s here.” They get up and look and there’s the baby safe and sound. Hugo makes baby talk and Aurora holds his finger.
Hugo says that the baby is in perfect health. Boris says that when he brought the luggage in, he didn’t see her. He says that when the baby heard Hugo’s voice, she reacted. Hugo says to the baby, “That’s because you know that your papa loves you so much. You want to know a secret? Your mama is going to be the happiest woman in the world when she sees you safe and sound.”
Ester is worried that Soledad will faint again. Soledad says that she can’t just stay inside these four walls waiting for news. Ester asks her to be calm, torturing herself won’t help anything. Soledad asks her mother not to tell her to be calm. She should put herself in Soledad’s place. Ester agrees and says that if someone had taken Soledad from her, she wouldn’t have been able to stand it. Ester says that Soledad has to believe. The power of the mind is very strong. She says that something tells her that the baby will turn up very soon.
Then the Obragon witchiness appears. Ester says that after the baby is returned, she wants Soledad to organize her life. She can’t continue to live in limbo. She can’t be enslaved in the diabolic game of those two men. Soledad says that Hugo is Aurora’s father. “No, my love,” says the Obragon witch, “a father takes care of his family. Hugo and Alcides have only brought misfortune (desgracias) to your life.” Soledad says that she can’t separate Hugo from his daughter. It’s not fair and she won’t do it. Ester says that although it hurts her to say so, the best thing she can do when Aurora is found is go far away from the Medina brothers and make herself happy. Soledad says that she doesn’t want to think about her future. She only wants her baby back. Ester says that the baby will be found but if she doesn’t think about her future, things will only get worse. “Soledad,” says Ester, “listen to my advice. When Aurora is found, formalize your relationship with Daniel and go away from here.” (Soledad- you should know by now never to follow any advice that Ester gives you.)
Dr. Dan asks Eloisa to pardon him for speaking frankly. He doesn’t believe that Michelle would leave and only say goodbye to Eloisa. Eloisa says that Michelle was destroyed and didn’t want to talk to anyone. Dr. Dan is sure that she would have talked to him – they are best friends. Eloisa says that she and Michelle are best friends too and women understand problems of the heart better. Dr. Dan says that he doesn’t believe in the friendship between Eloisa and Michelle or Soledad. Eloisa fakes shock that Dr. Dan could be so mean. Dr. Dan flashes back to Hugo’s trial when he heard Rebeca tell Eloisa how she got Lucas drunk to encourage him to testify against Hugo. He tells Eloisa that he can appear to be a little aloof but his senses are well developed. Just as he knows that Alcides wants to see him dead, he know that she isn’t sincere.
At the Hacienda, Alcides is eating nuts and giving instructions to Hercu-less. He has given Herc a letter and Herc asks if he should deliver it to Eloisa. Alcides, apropos of nothing, looks around says how beautiful the Hacienda is. He tells Herc that he has a special mission for him. He is to take the letter to Alcala (a nearby town) and bribe the postman there to postmark it yesterday (‘un sello con fecha de ayer’) and then he should put it into the mail so that it will arrive from Alcala postmarked yesterday. Herc doesn’t understand. He sees that the letter is addressed to Hugo. Alcides tells him not to ask questions and to go to Alcala on horseback, not by public transportation so that no one knows he went there. Herc leaves. “Con el tiempo y un ganchito,” Alcides uses his mantra of old: “ with time and a little luck.” Marina has overheard.
Arturo is hitting the bottle. Margot comes in and asks if he harmed Hercu-less. Arturo says that he just warned him not to come into his house much less to Margot’s room. Margot says that Herc did it because he missed her. Arturo responds that he did it because Herc is working for Arturo’s worst enemy and wants information. Margot asks if Arturo was involved in the kidnapping of Soledad’s baby. Is he capable of doing something so horrible?
Ester asks Soledad that when this nightmare (pesadilla) is over to think about what she has said. Ursula comes running in to say that Hugo has come and… Soledad jumps up, “What did he say? What has happened? Tell me …” Then Hugo comes into her room with the baby. “Here is our baby, Soledad,” says Hugo. Everyone is happy. Soledad says that no one can imagine how she feels. Boris comes in. Ester and Lucas ask Hugo where he found the baby. Hugo says that he found the baby in the cabaña in the woods. Ester asks what place that is and who lives there. Hugo says that no one lives there since his brother moved to the Hacienda. Lucas asks know Hugo knew that the baby was there. Hugo says that it was pure luck. After Michelle left town, he decided to move into the cabaña. Boris says that he didn’t realize the baby was there but when Hugo came and the baby heard his voice, she called out. She recognized his voice. Soledad asks who took the baby there, was it Alcides? Hugo says no. Boris says that a window had been broken and he assumes that someone broke in and left the baby there. Ester says that she doesn’t believe this story. It was he who took the baby there or worse, he did it in league with his brother. Hugo shakes his head in frustration.
Eloisa fakes outrage that Dr. Dan could accuse her of something like that to her face. After all she has done for him promoting his suit with Soledad. He will come on his knees begging forgiveness. “You know, Eloisa,” says Dr. Dan, “Behind every one of your words, I hear and feel a lie.” He says that if it happens that he is wrong, he will ask her forgiveness. Eloisa tells him to get out of her house. Dr. Dan says that when Michelle returns, we will see if she corroborates the story that Eloisa has invented. He leaves.
Alcides is meditating. Marina apologizes for disturbing him and asks what he wants her to do with the clothes that he bought for Aurora. He tells her to keep them. When the baby is found and Soledad is calmer, he will give them to her. Alcides asks if Marina knows the secret passages in the house. She says yes, of course. Alcides asks her to show them to him right away. He might need to make use of them.
Arturo denies having anything to do with the kidnapping of the baby. Margot asks why Alcides accused him of being involved. Arturo says that Alcides is his worst enemy and says that everything bad that happens in San Marino is his fault or doesn’t she understand that. Margot tells him not to treat her that way. She goes on to say that she knows that Arturo isn’t bad. He is the way he is because he was a soldier. Arturo doesn’t know what she means. She asks what he said to Hercu-less and Arturo repeats that he told Herc that his life had been saved by a miracle but it won’t happen again. Arturo asks Margot to leave him alone. Margot asks to leave. She misses Herc. Arturo says fine – get out of my house. He throws her out of the room.
Dr. Dan drives a gig to the Obragon house. He asks the guards if anything has happened. They say no. But a Medina went into the house. Dr. Dan asks which one, Hugo or Alcides. The guards aren’t sure. The twins are identical but the man said he was Hugo and he was accompanied by his servant, Boris. Dr. Dan doesn’t want the guards to let Alcides in so they shouldn’t let any Medina brother in unless they are sure it isn’t Alcides. The guard finally mentions that that Hugo came with the baby. Dr. Dan repeats his instructions that only authorized persons can come into the house.
Inside, Ester the Obragon witch starts in on Hugo. How can he guarantee that the disappearance of the baby wasn’t a dirty game to get points with Soledad? “Señora, I can’t do anything to convince you,” says Hugo. “It was as I said.” Soledad says that no one in her house knows Hugo better than her and she knows he is telling the truth. She says that they can say what they want about Hugo but he would never hurt his own daughter. Ester replies that they should tell the police and they will investigate and see who was responsible. Lucas makes an ineffectual attempt to restrain Ester. Hugo says that he understands this is an uncomfortable situation for everyone. It is better that he leaves. “At least my return meant that we found our baby,” says Hugo. Soledad thanks him. She asks if he going to look for Michelle. He says that he will leave again tomorrow morning.
Dr. Dan comes in and rushes over to see the baby. Soledad tells him that the baby was found in a house that belongs to Hugo’s family. Dr. Dan does a quick unnecessary checkup on the baby’s vital signs and say that she is ok. Hugo says goodbye and turns to leave but Dr. Dan wants him to stay and hear what he has to say. He says that if Lucas and Ester agree, they have to be much more strict about who enters the house so that the baby can’t be snatched again. Lucas agrees that only the family should be permitted to enter and certainly not Hugo’s brother, Alcides. Dr. Dan says that Hugo should not come in either. Hugo asks what he is saying. He has permission from the family to come see his daughter. Dr. Dan says it isn’t that but he and Alcides are identical ('dos gotas de agua,’ literally, ‘two drops of water’). The guards can’t tell them apart. Alcides could disguise himself as Hugo and gain entrance. Lucas agrees. Hugo tells Soledad that he needs to see his daughter. Soledad says that they need to find a solution. She understands the problem but Hugo needs to see his daughter. Dr. Dan suggests a solution. Whenever Hugo needs to see the baby, they can bring her to his house. A triumphant Ester asks Soledad what she thinks of this idea – neither of the Medina brothers would be permitted to come into the house.
Hugo does not let Ester force Soledad to decide. “Soledad, before you come to any decision,” says Hugo, “I think it is better that I don’t return to this house. I did it because any father needs to see his daughter but I prefer not to come to a place where I’m not welcome (‘no soy bien venido’).” Soledad asks Hugo not to look at it that way. Lucas and Ester think Hugo’s decision is fine. Hugo says that he lives in the cabin in the woods. Soledad can bring the baby there or to the workshop. She decides and he will obey (‘tu decidas y yo acataré’). Dr. Dan says to Hugo that he will help Soledad make sure that Hugo gets to see his daughter whenever it’s necessary. It’s not personal. On the contrary, he is simply avoiding the risk that Alcides could pretend to be him. “Yes,” pause, “of course,” says Hugo in a tone that indicates he does take it personally. He kisses the baby, “I understand perfectly,” he says and leaves. With a horrible smile that makes you just want to strangle her, Ester thanks Dr. Dan for all he has done for them. Soledad has the grace to look ashamed. Lucas asks where something that is garbled is but must be Antonia.
Paquito tells his girls that lacking a pianist, they will have to dance to a phonograph record. They don’t want to. Antonia is outside the bar and tells Paquito that she will play the piano for him provided that no one recognizes her. Paquito is ecstatic. He will transform her into his friend George.
Hercu-less has done what Alcides asked with a corrupt mailman in Alcala. The letter will be delivered tomorrow morning. Herc pays him.
Margot returns to her house. She can see that Herc hasn’t been there for a while. She flashes back to when Arturo defended her a decent person in front of his mother.
