Triunfo del Amor #88 4/8/11 Jimena Goes Slip-Slidin’ Away; Maria’s Outed To Max; More Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes Ahead at Casa de Modas

As we return to life in the passing lane, Max learns from Private Eye Lady that the picture of little Maria was taken at an orphanage school, and that she was never adopted.  Max takes the big mental leap and assumes that since the orphanage moved to the D.F. years ago, his “sister” (Ugh! I don’t like the sound of that) may still live there in the city.

Maria Desamparada (said “sister” and lover) is currently on the rooftop of the vecindad, taking her dry laundry off the clotheslines.  The two Jarocha’s approach her to hawk some new maternity clothing.  Maria politely declines as she’s saving her spare centavos for the baby.  (These two old hags are like Vampires with no fear of sunlight!)  They continue to stalk her.  They badger and wheedle Maria, hoping to persuade her, but she hangs tough.

Downstairs on street level, Alonso has come by to take her to dinner.  He walks on in and seeing she isn’t there, he gets creative.    A few minutes later he’s got some sort of surprise up on her wall.

At the same time at the Scandal-val manse, Victoria enters Fernanda’s room to see how Brat-Baby is doing.  Who knows? Maybe BB will deign to allow her a civil mother-daughter chat.  Fer is snide, but Vicki has all the answers this time.  Yes, Vicki has come bearing gifts and says it’s time she tells Fer what it is that has been causing her so much emotional pain. She then confesses her hidden past to her daughter: how she worked long ago as a housekeeper, how she had an affair with the wrong guy, how she had a daughter afterwards, and then how that other daughter went missing during a car accident that nearly killed Vic.  Vicki gives Fer her sister’s rag doll as a reminder that she’s still (like the Truth) out there, somewhere.  Fer reconciles with Vicki now and encourages her mother to continue looking for her long lost sister.  They share a big hug and lots of tears.  (Perhaps  Brat-Baby’s learned a bit of humility since her Humpty-Dumpty do over?)

Back on the roof-top, Maria is backing away from the Jarochas who are trailing after her like something from Day of the Living Dead.  She suddenly falls backwards down a couple of stairs.  Oh noes!  (Excuse me for being so critical when our heroine has nearly bought the farm on those darned stairs, but you’d think Maria would know enough by now to trade in those 5” platforms for a good pair of flats!)  Luckily, Lonnie-boy’s there to catch her--like an ever- faithful knight in rusting armor.  They stare meaningfully into each other’s eyes as the gossips upstairs worry about what might have happened.  (Unfortunately for Lon, his definition of meaningful does not match Maria’s.  More’s the pity, because Max and Co. are such undeserving LOSERS!)

Later, at the restaurant, Maria thanks Lonnie-Boy for the (still unseen and most mysterious) gift.  She tells him how much she appreciates the way he’s always so cheerful and optimistic about life.  Just then Max and Jimena arrive.  (Nix the cheer and optimism.)   An angry thunder cloud forms around Jimena’s head as both couples notice each other from across the room. Max is heartbroken when he sees Maria sitting there with the competition.   Lonnie and Maria anticipate the worst and Jimena does not disappoint.

In the barrio once more, X-Padre Juan Pablo, Milagros, Nat, Cruz, Napo and Juanjo have just finished dinner.  They discuss coaching ball for the orphans to keep them off the streets and from getting into mischief.  Nat mentions she thinks JJ is a hero for all he does with kids, and she gives him a quick peck on the cheek before running off.  JP leaves right after.  Up walks Don Joel with a bouquet of flowers for Millie.  Napo is very jealous.  Cruz and JJ rib him about it later.  (Yawn.) FF>>

Back at the restaurant, Jimeana immediately starts whining to Max about Maria’s being there and their having to be in the same restaurant as “that imbecile female”.  Yes and she’s been lying about Jimmie and insulting her in the dressing room at work!  Max can’t find a crack in the floor large enough or near enough to crawl into.  He lowers his voice (a hint as broad as a barn) and begs her to nix the (disturbingly high-pitched, high-volume kvetching and) the insults.  That, of course, just sets her off even more.  She raises her voice to an even more irritatingly high and very audible level. “--Oh, so now you’re going to defend her?  YOUR LOVER! YOUR GOING TO DEFEND YOUR LOVER INSTEAD OF YOUR WIFE?  YOU’RE GOING TO HUMILIATE ME, NOW, EH?  I. AM. THE. MOTHER. OF. YOUR. CHILD.”   (Honest to gawd, I think even fingernails on a blackboard would sound better to me than her voice about now!)  Max futilely whispers to her not to raise her voice and to avoid making the kinds of scenes she usually does.  (Of course, he might as well have spit in the wind.)  Anyway, he points out, she chose the restaurant, not him! So, if she doesn’t like it they can leave.  Ji says she isn’t about to give Maria that pleasure!  She’s staying right where she is, thank you very much!

Across the room, Lonnie asks Maria if she’s uncomfortable enough to want to leave.  Maria admits she feels awkward, but he’s given her the courage to stick it out there.  Lonnie sighs a love-sick sigh and flirtatiously tells hers that when she tells him something like that he just melts.  She pauses and stares away.  He asks what’s up.  She says being there with him reminds her of the times she was with Max.  Lon asks if she’s still in love with Max.  Maria admits she is, like she’s never loved anybody else in her life!  (Ok.  Viewerville will overlook the fact that the girl was brought up by nuns, was a virgin who had never dated till she and Max got together, and that Max was her first and only experience with Love.)

Max leaves to take a call. Jimmie takes advantage of the time alone to pop a few more pills and down them with her martini.  Maria and Lonnie watch this.  He’s totally disgusted with the scene.  “-The woman is so selfish that her own child doesn’t even matter to her!”

Max returns and stops Jimmie from going over to Maria’s table and making another scene.   Max and Maria spend the evening making goo goo eyes at each other.

After dinner, up in their bedroom, Ji is still harassing Max about Maria being at the restaurant.  Max reminds her that he didn’t pick the restaurant.  She insists he must have told Maria where they were going.  He denies it and asks her to stop and think how he feels seeing the woman he loves out with another man.   Ji pounds the bed.  “--Do you have to say that all the time?”  “--Well, it’s true.” “--The woman doesn’t love you!  Look how quickly she exchanged you for another young and handsome rich guy!” Suddenly the alarm bells go off in Max’s noggin.  He wants to know how long ago Ji met Alonso and where.  She says it was a very long time ago and wants to change the subject.  He asks why and mentions they seem to have known each other for years.  Why every time they look at each other do their eyes look full of hatred?  Where were they together and when?  She evades answering. “--I don’t know!  The only thing I know is that I want this thing between you and Maria Desamparada over with already!!”  Max walks out of the room.  Schemeana thinks to herself that she simply has got to get rid of that damned Maria and that kid of hers!

JP drops by for a late night chat with Maria and Lon after their return from the restaurant.  Maria tells JP how frightened she was that Max might have noticed she was pregnant while they were at the restaurant. She doesn’t want him to find out for anything in the world!  JP tells her the truth always floats up to the top, so she might as well tell him and be free of the added anxiety. Maria refuses and says that’s why she wants to live somewhere else.  Lonnie again offers his house in the boonies.  This time she accepts.

The next day, Schemena sneaks into the vecindad disguised poorly in huge dark sunglasses, an haut-couture maternity dress, and a poorly matching loud print head scarf (typical telenovela rich woman camouflage gear).   She takes out a reel of thin twine and begins to tie it to the stair rails, till El Alacrán catches her and wants to know what’s up.  She nervously offers him a wad of cash to do it for her instead.  He gladly takes the money and the twine and then merrily finishes the task.

Upstairs on the rooftop, there’s another fight between Millie and the Jarochas a few minutes later.  Maria leaves the fight and starts down the stairs.  She doesn’t see the twine across them and falls head first.  Luckily, Lonnie is there to catch her again.  We get another long meaningful stare between the two of them.  He looks hopeful.  She looks just plum scared.

In the city at Bleak-Chic Fashions, aka Casa de Victoria BURNIE, Schemeana gripes to Mama Rox about how she has to get rid of Maria so Max won’t find out that Maria is expecting his child. Max is standing at the doorway, listening to Bitchy Big-mouth the whole time, though.  He asks if Maria is really pregnant with his kid.  Jimena lies and says he misunderstood what she said.  Max remembers feeling Maria’s belly in the dressing room, and how he thought he felt something move in there. He tells Jimmie he thinks she’s lying to him. He races out the door and jumps into his little green machine, racing off to Maria’s for confirmation.    Ji and Rox follow him in the car to head him off in traffic, but Max outsmarts them and leaves them in the dust.

When Max finally makes it to Maria’s place she’s not there.  He notices the huge poster of her modeling a maternity frock and melts into tears at the sight.  He peeks into one of the bedrooms and sees the crib and baby clothes.  More tears.  “--Why didn’t she ever say anything to me?”

At the same time, Bernarda has summoned Vic to her office.  Burnie begins needling Vicki,  with a basic "the more things change the more they stay the same." Here they are again: Burnie large and in charge and Vic taking orders.  Vic says the insults aren’t working.  She’s proud of what she was able to do with her life and she’s never denied her humble beginnings.  “--Not many could have done what I did: to start with nothing and end up the queen of fashion.”  (Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Burnie!) Burnarda says nice thought, but it was a waste.  “--I’m personally seeing to it that not a trace of your heroic deeds remain.  Today I took the second big step: as of today Casa Victoria ceased to exist.  Today your empire crumbled away completely.  This morning the company name changed. It will be called Casa Bernarda.”  Vicki is frown-to-the-ground impactada: “--You can’t do this!”  “--Now nothing remains of what you had to be proud of.  You came out of nothing and to nothing you will return.”

At the same time across town, Lon and Maria get back with groceries.   They give us more PSA pronouncements about proper diets for expectant mothers.  Lonnie helps her with a bouquet of flowers and asks if she really wants to leave.  Maria says it’s for the best, so yes.  Max walks out of the baby’s bedroom then and sees the two of them together.  He surprises them with a question. “—The best for who?”  Maria and Max’s eyes lock.  “--Answer me.  The best for who?”  She fibs and says for their impossible love.  He says no, it’s more possible than ever now that she’s expecting his child.  Lonnie steps in and lies for Maria.    It’s really his child, not Max’s.  Max looks at Maria.  “--Is this true?  Is the baby his?”  She’s at a loss for words as Uni breaks for a few shameless ad spots from their sponsors.

As we return from the pause that refreshes, Viewerville is waiting on the edge of their sofas and easy chairs to see if Maria has the courage of her convictions. And...she does not.  Max asks again.  “--Tell me.  Is it mine?  Is the baby mine?”   She folds like a pile of fresh laundry.  “--Alonso has been great to me.  He and I share a dear friendship, but that’s all.”   Max hugs her.  “--I knew it!  It’s mine!”  Lonnie shakes the dirt off his boot in the corner and sucks in his disappointment.  Max asks Maria why she kept quiet about it. Maria explains that she was going to tell him, but that was the day he told her he was going to marry Jimena.  She still should have said something to him, he says.   “—Well, really I wanted to, but it was always your family or Jimena who was always doing something to force us to put a stop to our plans!”  She just wanted to get away from that and to avoid putting his child’s life at risk.  “--Yeah, Jimena runs the risk of losing the baby.”  Lonnie pipes up from the corner.   "That’s only because Jimena doesn’t want anybody’s child, not yours, not anybody’s.”

Maria warns Max to take care of his child because Jimena is completely crazy [desquiciada].  True, he says, but he’s got her to worry about now also.  It makes sense to him now, he adds, that special shine in her eyes and the glow in her cheeks yadda, yadda.  She begs him to forget about her.  How can she ask him to do that?  It’s his child!  Maria stops beating around the bush.  “--Because there’s no room in your life for me!  It doesn’t matter how much we love each other!  I don’t want you to feel obligated to me,  like it’s some sort of added responsibility!  If it’s certain that we can’t be together, I don’t want to force it!”  Max reminds her that she knows how much he wanted her to have a child of his.  He wants to go away with her.  Nothing else matters now!

Maria refuses.  There are too many people involved now, too many will get hurt, she says.  Jimena could get rid of the baby if the two of them get back together and she couldn’t deal with that guilt.  She begs him to let her go.  He begs her to stick it out with him.  She won’t because he has too many other obligations.  “--They all need you.  Your mother needs you!  Your sister needs you!  The company needs you!  Please let me go to start my life over.”  He asks if she doesn’t love him any longer.  She assures him she loves him more than ever, with all her heart and till the day she dies.  Then why can’t she trust in their love to triumph, he asks again?   Max hugs her and asks to touch her belly.  She says fine. He gets down on his knees and kisses her stomach.  Of course, that’s precisely the moment that Schemeana flies in on her broom.  (She parks it and jumps off.)  “--You miserable wretch!!  How dare you!”  Max wipes his nose with his sleeve and looks guilty as charged.

Meanwhile, back at the fashion studio, Vicki and the gang mourn over the name change and what it signifies for her.  In walks Bruja Bernarda and shoos them back to work.  Time is money.  Nobody wants to work, then out the door they go.  By the way, where is Max?  Nobody knows.  Better find out.  She won’t tolerate lazy or undisciplined employees.  Maybe he’ll just be the first she gets to sack.

Back at Maria’s modest abode, Jimeana plays the long-suffering wife to the hilt.  Maria just couldn’t keep quiet!  This makes Max curious and he asks just how long she knew Maria was expecting and why she pressured her to keep quiet.  Ji starts screeching again.  She says she’s not seen her let alone pressured her about anything!  She isn't important to her!  Max tells Ji that he marvels at how easily she fakes it all.  How shameless of her to hide this from him!  Well, it’s been all for naught, he adds, because as of today they’re finished!  Nothing and no one is going to stop him from going away with Maria!

“--You’re not leaving me!”  Jimeana yells at Max and then lunges towards Maria, but Max holds her back.  “--Enough!”  Ji circles the table to try again from a less protected angle.  She screams at Maria.  “--Damn you for getting in our way!”  Lonnie now blocks Jimena from attacking Maria.  Jimmie turns on Lon now.  “--You stop interfering!  This doesn’t concern you! What happened between you and me happened a long time ago!  It ended!  It ended and you won’t forgive me!  Because you’re a spurned lover [despechado]!”  Ok. This gets Max’s attention.  “--What are you talking about?”

Jimmie’s rather questionable explanation is that Alonso used to be madly in love with her and still is; but she kicked him to the curb for Max and he’s never gotten over it!  Lon yells back that she’s lying.  He turns to reason with her.  “--For once in your miserable life tell the truth!”   “--You see!  The truth is you hate me!  You hate me! Hate me hate me hate me!  And ever since that moment you’ve been pursuing me, harassing me…offending me!!” She looks over to Max.  “--And you know why?  Because I never loved him the way he loved me!  Yes I cheated on him!  I cheated on him because of you! Because I love you!   Now look at how you repay me! You get involved with this bitch!! [zorra=vixen, whore, bitch]  You can’t believe how I feel seeing you caressing that slut’s [golfa=tart, tramp, slut]  belly!!”

Maria’s heard enough and makes a lunge at Jimeana.  “--Don’t you dare insult me!”  Max blocks her.  Again, Ji manages to make the other one look guilty of emotional blackmail.  “--Well, you promised and you did it!  You told him!  You wanted to take him away from me.”  Maria won’t let her get away with lying this time, though.  “--I was ready to sacrifice myself for your child, so I would never have told him!”  “--You think I’m going to believe it?  That I’m that stupid? Here you were, right here!  Like a vulture, lying in wait [al acecho] for the right moment!”

Alonso tells Jimena to nix the insults.  Jimena turns around and tells him to stuff it. She turns back to Max and whines that he prefers Maria’s child to hers.   Max insists he feels responsible for both children and that they both deserve his love and protection.   Jimmie starts to threaten him again if he leaves her for Maria.  Max doesn’t care at this point and tells her enough of the little scenes she’s so good at causing.  This sham is over! He won’t forgive her for not telling him about Maria’s pregnancy.  She begs him to reconsider.  They got married and planned to raise their child together.  If Maria wants to sacrifice herself, then let her!  He tells her she’s so wrong about that, and what’s more, he’s going to start the divorce proceedings that very day!  He turns to Maria and tells her to wait for him to return.  He’ll be back for her later, he says, and he walks out the door.

Jimena tries running after Max, but Lon grabs her by the arm and stops her.  He drags her into the other room and bawls her out.  “--Stop ruining other people’s lives!  If I didn’t tell Max the truth just then it’s only because I really do have a heart!”  He leaves to go back and join Maria.  Jimmie comes out, points an accusatory finger at them, and warns them that the death of her child is on their conscience.  She storms out the front door and tries to catch up with Max. Maria breaks down into tears.  Lonnie lends his shoulder most willingly.

Max storms away to his car and starts the engine.  Jimena comes out, see’s Mama motion her in the right direction and races to his car.  She tries to get in or catches her belt or maybe she purposely wrapps her seatbelt around her hand  somehow.  (I couldn't really tell what she could have wrapped it around or whether she didn't crack the door open.)   Anyway, as he pulls out and drives off she is pulled to the ground.  Max doesn’t notice because she’s fallen out of his range of sight, and because the street noise and the rumble of the engine drown out her panicky screams.  Roxi watches in horror as her daughter is dragged on her back along the street behind Max’s car. (If it were anybody else, Viewerville would have been horrified, too.  As it’s Jimeana we’re dealing with, Viewerville just sits back and watches the fun.)  Suddenly a car races up from behind and screeches to a halt as the driver slams on the breaks to avoid running over Jimena.  Max hears the screech and stops the car.  He gets out and sees Jimena lying unconscious behind his car.   Roxi races over screaming “Mi hija-a-a!”.  Max checks to see if Jimmie’s   still breathing and yells at Rox to call for an ambulance.  It seems that Jimena may have nine lives also.  If we’re lucky she may be on #9 and down for the count.

El Mundo de Telemundo, Week of April 11, 2011: Discuss Amongst Yourselves

REINA - viernes
Oh dear, Teresa's desire to avoid hurting innocent people turns out really badly. A super powerful episode.

Mohammed manages to call his mother from his cell phone but he can't say anything and she hangs up.

Dris meets with Don Epifanio. He says that he believes Teresa is running from her past and can't return to Mexico so that is where he wants to be. Don Epifanio plays innocent and claims that he knows nothing bad about Teresa. She was like a daughter to him. He sends Dris to Culiacán with Batman to find Teresa's enemies.

Flores can't get anything out of the boat guy (Mario). He lets him go saying that since there is a war between Teresa and the Turks she took the business from, he is a 'dead man walking' (cadáver con patas).

Oleg tells Patty and Teresa that he can't get involved because it could start a war. Then he gets a call confirming that Mohamed is in the hands of some crazy Turks. Mohamed's cell phone is found by his captors. Oleg promises to do what he can to help Teresa.

Teresa tells Fátima that Mohammed was taken by her enemies. Fátima wants to know what Teresa is involved in. She tells Fátima that she is involved in drug running. Fátima asks why, after both of her two men were killed in that business, she would get involved in it. Teresa replies that she didn't seek it. Circumstances keep getting her involved in it. She tells Fátima that she brought her and Mohamed to Spain because she loves them, wanted to protect them and wants to feel like she had a family. She swears to Fátima that Mohammed will be ok.

Then things get worse. Teresa is sent a couple of Mohamed's fingers.

Oleg come over. Teresa is crying. Oleg says that she made him respect her and that rarely happens. He tells her that she is leader and she has to behave like one. He tells her that he thinks that she can negotiate with the Turk the way she did with him.

The Turk tells her to come alone.

Flores figures out why Teresa was so nervous in the police station but he won't do anything to find the kid. He had to send his daughters out of the county to protect them. "Qué sufre en carne propria lo que me ha hecho a mí," Let her suffer in her own flesh the way she made me suffer.

Patty doesn't want Teresa to go meet with the Turks. Fátima overhears and sneaks down to hide in Teresa's car.

The Turk tells his guys that they must let Teresa believe that it is an exchange but that once they have her, they will kill them both.

Teresa arrives at where the Turks are holding Mohamed. She promises to give back the business to the Turks and leave Spain. The Turk says that he doesn't believe her and wants her in exchange for the kid. Teresa demands to see the kid.

Meanwhile Oleg has an armed guy at the Turk's place.

Juarez is surprised that Oleg trusts Teresa that much. Oleg replies that he doesn't trust anyone. He says that Russians fall in love a lot but have few friends. Teresa is a good friend.

Patty finds out that Fátima is gone from the house and tells Oleg. He tells Juarez that everything is going wrong. He calls his guy and says that there is a change of plan. As soon as he sees something go wrong, he should kill all the Turks.

Teresa plays her card. She is wearing a suicide vest and she threatens to blow them all up.

Dris visits Ratas in prison. He says that they have an enemy in common.

Then it does all go wrong. Fátima runs to Mohamed. The Turks kill her and Mohamed. Oleg's guy kills the Turks. Oleg's men drag Teresa from the scene.

HEREDEROS - Whatever. The same old same old. Paula, Juan, Julieta, Sofía. Nothing new.

Teresa Fri 4/8/11 #8 Trading BFFs and possibly BFs

Aida and Aurora are at the gym talking about how they've been friends since grade school. Aurora tells of a certain guy she likes (doesn’t mention his name) and how she spilled atole on her arm. When he offered to help her and touched her arm, she felt a something like an electrical charge or chemistry between them. Aida says, yup, you’re in love.

At Aurora’s house, she and Teresa are having a little visit. Teresa thanks her for advising Arturo about the funeral although she would have preferred he hadn't gone to the wake. She doesn’t have a problem with him but his sister doesn’t like her. She feels she needs to fix that because this could be an issue. She must think of her career and can’t run the risk that he won’t help her due to his sister’s influence.

Teresa says as friends they had always promised to be honest with each other. When she told Aurora she wasn’t interested in Mariano, she was being truthful. She didn’t think she was going to end up with him again. Aurora feels it’s obvious Mariano still cares about Teresa and points out they were novios before. Teresa says that’s way back when they were children and it was just a game to her. She knows Aurora likes him and volunteers to step aside because Aurora’s her best friend and doesn’t want to risk their friendship, not even for Mariano. Aurora admits she likes him but it was just a simple attraction, nothing more. Teresa says she could never forgive herself if Aurora were hurt. Aurora knows this and asks why Teresa decided to give Mariano another chance. Teresa thought he was a slacker, but he’s changed. He’s back at the university, he’s kind, generous and well, she realized that she loves him. The BFFs hug and Teresa has a Cheshire Cat smile on her face. Hmmmm.

Aurora and her father talk about Rosa and he asks her about Mariano. She asks him not to mention him again. Concerned, dad asks her if Mariano did anything to hurt her. Al contrario, he is the nicest person she’s ever met but he’s in love with her BFF. She now just wants to go away and leave everything behind so she doesn’t have to suffer through meeting them together. She just would like to disappear. He says it's not a good idea to run away. She doesn’t seem convinced.

Teresa reports to work and Luisa is surprised to see her there. She’s following Arturo’s instructions not to have any distractions. Luisa tells her this is different; this is a special circumstance. Teresa says oh no, there's no such thing as special circumstances for people who depend on others for money. That's how life is for the poor. (Asi es la vida de los pobres) Luisa says she now understands her brother. Teresa is a very responsible person but pain has nothing to do with responsibility – everyone understands that. Teresa emphasizes that she needs to keep moving forward. Yesterday, she buried her sister. Today her mother is taking in laundry, her father is back at the garage and she’s here ready to work.

Gym teacher comes by to visit Armando and Teresa to drop off Rosita's ribbon. They put it next to her medal and the Virgencita because this way they are together, just as they are in heaven. They thank God for the time they had with Rosita. They agree they should now focus on Teresa and support her as much as they can and enjoy her rather than constantly arguing with her. Refugio struggles with understanding Teresa's ambition. She remembers Teresa said she needed a new sweater and will go out to buy some yarn to start on it right away.

Luisa tells Teresa she misjudged her so severely before getting to know her and she now understands why her brother believes in her. They share an embrace (sounds like the theme from Jaws playing in the background). Teresa has tears in her eyes and thanks her for the embrace but she doesn't want her sympathy. Luisa shares her pain. Her parents died when she was 11. Their lives changed forever that night and it’s too painful to discuss. Teresa wishes Luisa would learn to trust her. They agree to start anew. Teresa reminds her that she told her on that day she was pretty and she meant it. Luisa gushes and disagrees. Teresa has a bright idea and recommends a makeover with a few changes here and there. Teresa turns around and she has a look on her face like, boy, this is gonna be tough. When she looks at Luisa again, she brings on the tears. At the estetica (beauty salon), Luisa and Teresa share some galpal time and we see Luisa with a new do and picking out clothes. Profe likes the change in his sis. Luisa says it's all thanks to Teresa.

Arturo tells Teresa he's sorry she wasn't able to make it to Rosita's meet. Teresa says no need for apologies; no one could have predicted this tragedy. If anything, Rosita understood the need to work hard to get ahead. Arturo wants to begin paying her for her work, as it is keeping her from seeking paid employment. Teresa says no way, she’s already indebted to him for the tuition. She refuses, saying it's humiliating enough to have her career thanks to his charity. Let's not mention it again.

Esperanza is talking to El Bigote on her cell phone. She's home alone with Pablito and Ruben appears to be at a restaurant. Espe: “How will I manage while you're gone? I'll miss you so much.” Ruben: “I'll miss you more. I don't know how I'll manage without being able to embrace you and kiss you.” Ugh -- he's checking out a chica walking by as he says this. Espe: “Stop or I'll chain you down so that you can't go anywhere. Promise me you'll take care of yourself and think of me.” Ruben: “All the time. And promise me you won't spin cobwebs in your head. Remember – no job hunting, and no jealousy. Keep yourself busy.” (really?) Espe: “I’ll keep busy with Pablito – I get his results tomorrow. I'm so worried.” Ruben: “Remember that he is in good hands. The sooner we know what wrong with him, the sooner he can be cured.

Refugio knitting (man she knits fast!). Teresa walks in “Never mind the knitting, look at the beautiful sweater Luisa gave me. Es muy fino (very nice/expensive).” I felt so bad for Refugio. Teresa goes on and on about how beautiful her sweater is and wants Juana to check it out so she can make her something similar to that style. Juana steers her into the bedroom while Refugio sadly pulls apart her knitting (sniff). In the bedroom, she tells Juana no way does she want to wear the sweater her mom is making with that cheap yarn. Juana reminds her how sensitive her mother is now and convinces her to wear the sweater she's knitting – she doesn't have to wear every day. Oh, ok…if I must.

As her parents are off to check on the mass for Rosita, Teresa stays behind, holding Rosita's competition ribbon and speaks of her continued efforts to get ahead. Now that her tuition is paid for, she will focus on how Aida will pay for all the humiliation she caused Teresa. Then the mantra begins: “Yo soy, yo soy, yo soy” (I got a little creeped out here)

Espe and Teresa are out walking. Espe hopes this is the last time Ruben does anything with his wife but since she has some free time, is there anything Teresa needs? Teresa doesn’t skip a beat and suggests she use that free time to find a job: “I already told you it's not a good idea to depend on men, especially if they're married! Look at me, I'm working toward being independent so I don't have to rely on anyone but at the same time considering all my options.” Espe: “Like what?” Teresa: “Meet the right people, open the right doors, to get a good job. You never know when things won't work out. For example, what happens if your boyfriend ends up reconciling with his wife during this trip. What would you do?” (bullseye!) Espe: “No, no don't even joke about that.” Teresa: “I'm not joking. Consider finding a way to earn money. Wouldn't that be best?” Espe: “Now you got me thinking. If my novio leaves me, I'll simply die.”

Refugio is trying to give Mariano some money. Mariano: “How can I take your money. You have so many expenses.” Refugio: “What expenses (que gastos?) I know you pawned (empenar) many of your belongings. Besides what better way to use the money we were saving for Rosita's quinceanera. I am so grateful for all your help for Rosita and for how much you love Teresa. You're the best thing that ever happened to her.”

Teresa is at Ruben's office (ooooo this is gonna be good! Jaws theme playing and everything!) ooops, Mariano shows up and tells her he's there cuz Ruben is his main squeeze for his taxi business and he has some papers to deliver. (Rats! I was looking forward to a confrontation.) They make a big show of introducing her to Ruben’s secretary.

Cutberto continues his pursuit of Juana. Time for the luto to be over. She says she stopped the luto awhile back. He tells her “No, that's not the kind of luto I'm talking about” and tries to steal a kiss. Cute scene. She chases him off.

Teresa is saying goodbye to Mariano with a hug and a kiss and Aida sees them. “Oh so now you're novios with the taxista!” Mariano: “Is there a problem?” Aida: “No... My dad says you're a good, um employee. I'm surprised to see Teresa here.” Teresa explains they were companeras in school and now will be going to the same university. Aida: “Well, so sorry I interrupted your apapachos (hugs). Ta-ta! I'll say hi to Paolo for you!” Teresa: “I hate her! See the humiliations I have to suffer? I hate how they ridicule (menosprecien) me.” Mariano: “Then do what I do. If you can't handle it then go the public university.” Teresa (incredulous): “How can you say that?” Mariano: “What, would that embarrass you? You understand my school is one of the most recognized schools in Latin America, right?” Teresa: “It's not that, but how can I give up this great opportunity. The best attorneys come from the universidad del sur.” Mariano: “I hope that's the reason because I'd hate to think you're embarrassed of where I study, much less embarrassed of me.” Teresa: “ How can you say that? You're so much better and worth much more than that idiot Aida is dating.” She hugs him then she gets this hateful look on her face.

Mariano runs into Aida as he's delivering a package to Ruben's secretary. Aida and the secretary both comment on how cute he is but don't understand what he's doing with that novia of his.

Aurora arrives at Teresa's home and tells Refugio that since she's leaving Mexico, she brought by a few things that she thinks Teresa can use. Her chauffer brings in a few shopping bags filled with clothes.

Aida arrives at Paolo's house. Paolo: “What'sup?” Aida: “Nothing, nothing. I just don't understand what I see in you when you're so attracted to chachas (tacky girls; literal translation-servant). Those girls who aspire to reach a higher station and end up with someone just like themselves.” Paolo: “What you talkin bout?” Aida: “ I ran into Teresa” This perks up Paolo’s interest: “Did you her?” Aida: “Yup, and with her new novio. I saw her kissing a lowly (vil) taxista!”

Teresa is telling Luisa that she's sad cuz her BFF has just told her that she's moving away from Mexico. “It's awful because now I have no one to talk to, to share with.” Luisa: “I know how you feel. I'm the same. Even though I have Arturo, there are many things I can’t talk to him about. I hope you will give me the chance to be your friend and confide in me.” Teresa: “It would be an honor for me if you'd consider me your friend.”

Aurora still at Teresa's talking with Armando and Refugio. She’s such a nice girl. Empathizing with them in their sorrow. Armando tells her Teresa is also very sad. Aurora admits it's hard for her to leave her at this time. She thanks God for this trip, for her father and for the opportunity to distance myself from someone who....In walks Mariano. I thought I saw a spark between them?

Eperanza at the doctor's. Doctor has bad news (oh no) Pablito has what is called Wilms tumor (tumor de Wilms) (?) a form of kidney cancer that can result in death. Espe is muy, muy impactada.

At the vecindad, Mariano is walking with Aurora and she's telling him she's going to France. Pablito is playing with some kid and they begin to rough house. As the other kid picks up Pablito, we can hear him asking to be put down. Then we see the bigger kid holding Pablito in a kind of chokehold (not really, but Pablito doesn't look too good). Pablito passes out and the kid thinks he's playing. When he doesn't respond, the kid calls to Mariano who begins checking for a pulse.

Llena de Amor #166 (Mex. 194-195) Fri 4/8/11 And justice for none....

We are at the hearing room waiting for La Gartha who shows up 20 minutes late looking like she’s going clubbing…they start by calling Brandon as witness who whispers to Mau he will undo him.

Jose Maria is thanking Emi for the rescue; apparently JM had friends in low places from his jailed up days who were able to locate Netty? Eman walks in congratulating everyone, Emi won’t be away from his wife to be ever again. Glad notices how upset JM must be that his love is unrequited, she consoles him. He swears he’s not given up yet…Hmmm let’s ponder this shall we? Drifter, post jailbird, man o’ the sea scruffy type versus wealthy, stable, socialite powerful polished business type with a mansion and servants…yeah JM you are still in the running for sure…. Well, actually JM type sounds a bit familiar to me, so maybe we shouldn’t count him out just yet….;0)

Fedra yells at Bernardo for somehow letting Netty escape, he plants that Low must have betrayed her, Mau was with him…

Back at the hearing, BranMuffins testifies that Orangemau tried to sexually assault Vick several times…yesiree judge…of course Mau’s counsel objects claiming all B is trying to do is smudge Mau’s character and B’s only objective is to free La Gartha, besides they have a pretty lengthy history themselves. Not sure these are accepted objections in our system, but what the hey, we are in the court of the terminally idiotics so anything goes. They get into a match here about what the relationship was, and V’s counsel calls Doris to testify she saw Mau advancing himself on her. Next Low is called and testifies V offered her bod in exchange for shares in the PR agency and to screw up the marriage of his daughter to become Eman’s lover, even then that she offered herself as Low’s amante…ok, I know I’ve missed things not watching much lately, but what is she on trial for here? Being someone’s lover is actionable in MX? Interesting!! So the judge in his infinite fairness asks Vick if there is a witness with whom she has not had a relationship. Nice impartiality there…she of course rolls her eyes.

Ok so we are not left without our dose of Fresa, Kristel is rehearsing her testimony outside with the proper prance (something every witness should learn to be the most convincing) when Gretl walks up wondering what evility she’s up to now, and can she dare to speak on behalf of slimy snake. She says true she’s 1000 times better off without Mau, but she was required to testify. By now jolly Olli walks up not so jolly, telling her she should do what’s right for a change…she wonders what the “super cop” will give her in exchange for helping out Vick, he says she’ll get a good conscience knowing she helped out all the other women that Mau hurt along with her. Kris flashes back to pulling a gun on Mau who had pinned down Ilitia. She appears pensive, but I can see the pains the harder thinking is causing our dear Fresa…

Back at the hearing..She goes in “wanting justice”

Bernie is still trying to convince Fedi her love is betraying her, remember like he did when he had an affair with Kris..she noted him nervous this morning and starts to have some doubts, but they are to marry and he will share all his money with her…Berni lays it on thicker now, he’s the only one who really loves her, he’s not just a servant. Esta freaky…don’t say that anymore she says… It looked like she really bit her tongue or gum or something…she continues he’s only her servant he’ll never be more…he finally tells her not to humiliate him. He reaches for her neck, but we know he won’t do it. Yet. My money is on his betrayal eventually that will lead to her coveted demise.

Back at the hearing Kristel accuses Vick of ruining everything for her. Mau smiles. Vick can’t believe she is doing this to her. Kris warns Mau on the way out, she won’t betray him publicly here, but if he touches Ilitia, she’ll make pieces out of him.

Mau’s counsel requests that she be detained, that there is enough evidence against her…she pleads for her freedom, they beg if she must stay to give her bail. Just when the judge says he can’t do that, and she must remain in custody, our super leather hero ELDP shows up to the rescue declaring her innocence.

Fedra tells Berni to get his slimy hands off her. She starts to repent only slightly and tells him he needs to accept his position in her life, he is like a bro, remember? Bernardo gets dissed by Fedra who says he’s good for Nereidas, she’s a bit too grand for him. She leaves and He tells the air she’s turned all the love into hate, and she will pay. Yep, I’m predicting a murder attempt by our jilted one.
Back in court, el Lirio has something to say, he’ll be quick. He’s a criminal but he’s worth hearing…I love Brandon’s attempts at pointing the gun. Also the court reporter is cracking me up, there’s no way she can do this with a computer…
Gret and Doris run into the bathroom. Gret has to change into Manolo to get the story of the century from el Lirio..

Back in the courtroom they fight over whether ELDP should be allowed to testify, he is a criminal and of course MV doesn't want him to jeopardize himself or reveal himself...she begs him not to.

Muneca wonders why ELDP is here and Doris says they want him to turn himself in and take off the mask. She screams he’s hero…Vicki gets a note from Mano…she begs ELDP not to reveal the face behind that shiny vinyl. Brandon wants him to, he says he will do anything for Vik, she says then let me do it and whispers about the gun in Gman’s vest. ELDP takes G-man hostage, blows a smoke bomb and gets away with G-man…outside she begs for an exclusive e-mail but he escapes behind a locked door and G-man is left with nothing.

We go to another plot where Low is turning over a check to Mayela so she won’t talk. Unexpectedly Ili runs in grabs it and tells her she won’t blackmail her Pa anymore. She’s all ears so if there is something to tell her, let her know, she doesn’t care if the woman knows who her real Ma is. Pa is pleased and Mayela is pissed.

Back to the ELDP plot where he now emerges with Eman as a hostage…they yell a bit, and oops more pyrotechnics and ELDP is gone in a flash. Eman grabs Brandon’s leg holding him from chasing claiming he needs help, he was hit…

In yet another plot, Netty is crying to Emi about JM having left, she is worried about his broken heart. She later begs to go to the hearing to help Vick

They were unable of course to catch the ELDP, he vanished in thin air as always. Mau comes out to the stunned after ELDP math and demands Vick be cuffed, and that he’ll get her…Bran dismisses him. Vick thinks Eman needs to be checked out, he’s fine and thinks she still has a little love for him. She just doesn’t want bad things to happen. Seems the judge has stayed the proceedings and she doesn’t need to go to jail yet.

Vick goes back to the house telling everyone she thinks they are going to lose…Doris is getting out and her Ma begs her not to.

G-man wants an interview with Eman about his kidnapping….he seems to be tricking G-man that she is hiding something too, they go in for an interview.

Mayela is approached by Mau at the bar..she knows who he is and blows him off, but he is there to help her, he’s investigated her, knows she owes a debt and wants to know why she is blackmailing him. He will pay her whatever to ruin that guy forever.

Nereida is thrilled they are going back home. Fedra wants to be with her son..Berni thinks once he knows her true provenance, he’ll hate her too. She is blitzed!! Low wonders que the hell he is talking about.

Eman tells G-man he knows the real identity of the Leatherman, Eldp will tell her himself when he interviews, but G-man too needs to take off his mask. G-man is perplexed..Eman pulls out his mask…she is muy impactada…he tells her now take off yours, ok she pulls off the moustache and another one knows he is a she….the bricks are a tumbling…

More to come....I'll be away from internet on Sat, but feel free to comment, I have to finish the second half...195 coming...

Epi 195

Netty is begging Vick to convince Doris to stay away from Andre because of his illness. MV says she is old enough and they are in Loooove.

Emi busts in upset because he can't reach anyone on the phone. Netty wonders what that is all about, MV says you can marry tomorrow, Emi doesn't have ot get a divorce from Fedra. Emi says Gretl and she have been investigating Fedra Curiel and Emiliano's marraiage doesn't exist. Jorge has been protecting the documents that did not burn.. Emi is muy impatacdo and Vick continues to explain Fedra is a watery slut named Juana Felipe.

More bonding over the discovery by G-man of ELDP and vice versa. They praise Doris' talents, and each others acting skills. He notes that she also helps turn a Mar type person into a Vick type person, Gman's eyes get wider than pancakes.

Back at the house Emi is cursing how this could happen and how Fedra could do this to him and the kids etc. How is he going to tell them, and how could he have spent this much of his life with a prostitute. He urges Vick to get him the docs right away. He wants to find out what is up between her and Jose Maria.

We are back to Mau trying to get Mayela to accept his check, she won't, he thinks they can hep each other, he wants her to avenge Low, she says there's someone else involved. He mentions Ilitia, she looks down and says look I still have other ways out of my problems, so thanks but no thanks, adios. He mumbles something about getting with Ilitia after she left.

Back with Eman and G-man she asks him why he thinks that, it's a pretty big accusation that Vick is Mar is Vick. He rattles off all the reasons why, like duh, it took months to notice these things of course...they chat about not trusting Jorge and where did he come from and what not..

More to come

La Fea Más Bella #289-290 4/8/11 Hopes dashed: Saimon, Omar, Tomás, Carolina.

Capitulo 289.
Read 5ft Latina’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Fern tells Lety he’ll defend her wedding because he only wants her happiness, and he returns to the cave. She’s so moved that she almost calls after him. Later he gazes and tells her she’s much prettier than she wants to seem.

2. Saimon shows off his technology degree. He asks for a promotion and they refuse. The cuartel begs, and Lety says they’ll need a new messenger.

3. Omar takes Caro flowers, but he sees a man exiting her house, talking about an explosive night. The man was the electrician. Omar tells Fern that Caro has a novio.

4. A man follows Luigi and Marcia at the mall. I’ll call him Señor Zapatos.

5. Ali tells Marcia about last night. She’s unsettled when Marcia calls it love. She says she had no other option. Marcia says marriage means having relations, and she warns Ali that if this continues, she’s asking for serious problems. Marcia asks if Ali took precautions, and Ali asks, “For what?”

6. Carmina takes Aldo diving. Lety calls Aldo and Carmina picks up. Lety whimpers jealously, and Fern steps in. He wants to know if Aldo is making her jealous and angry.

7. Caro thanks Omar for the necklace. He remembers the man at her house and says the necklace means nothing. She gives it back to him and leaves. She’s angry at herself for thinking Omar had changed.

8. Fernando taunts Lety about Aurora to make her squirm. Later he taunts Omar, getting him to declare that Lety is ugly and Aurora is gorgeous. He says to himself that Omar can’t see the essence of beauty, but he, Fernando, has learned to.

9. Marcia gets a love note from a secret admirer. He invites her to exchange e-mails for a time. Ali warns that he might be a murderer.

10. Fern and Lety meet Saimon downstairs to unveil his new position, computer coordinator, which appears to be management level. Saimon asks Paula to marry him.

  .

Capitulo 290.
Read Amanda’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Paula says yes. Saimon faints. Fernando and Lety exchange googoo eyes TWICE.

2. Alicia has fond memories of last night in spite of herself. But she tells Tom that the doctor says they must abstain for 3 months if they want to make babies.

3. Paula gets a call from Jaimito’s dad (Jaimote? Jaimón?), inviting them to live with him in LA. She has to choose between love and money.

4. Jax visits, and Fern and Lety team up. Fern taunts Lety about Aurora. Fern says Jax doesn’t need Aurora to finish the project. Jax leaves, and Lety frets that they need Aurora. Fern very compassionately tells her some things are much more important. He goes to the cave and says to himself, “Things like your relationship with Aldo. I know it would hurt you very much if Aldo felt you deceived him. So I’ll button my lip.”

5. Los tres hermanos tristes go out. Fern reminds Saimon that drinking doesn’t fix anything. Later los tres hermanos borachos stumble out of the bar and fall into the bushes. Camil tries hard to not laugh.

6. Paula tells Jaimito the news and asks him to choose. He just wants to be with her. Paula thinks he wants to be with his birth father, and Jaimito thinks she wants to move to LA. Paula tells Saimon they’re leaving.

7. Aldo shows the Padillas yachts in PV, and Lety is at best bored. Then they see the photo of Aldo with Carmina. Aldo gives an explanation for why she was in PV (a fact Lety already knew), but not for why he’s wrapped around her. Julieta drags Erasmo upstairs to make sure he doesn’t interfere. Aldo tells Lety he didn’t do anything to apologize for, and he hopes she’s in a better mood tomorrow.

8. Fernando counsels Marcia to not answer her admirer. Fern thinks it’s dangerous and he worries for her.

9. Fern finds Lety crying at her desk, and she confirms that Aldo went to PV with Carmina. El Fiero storms into Aldo’s office and flies across the desk, ready to pulverize him for hurting Lety. But all they do is have a choke and slap fight. Lety stops them. Fern says he won’t let Aldo make Lety suffer. To prove his love and respect for Lety, Aldo grabs her and drags her to him as his prize.

10. Lety tells the cuartel she’s going to cancel the wedding.

Triunfo del Amor #87 4/7/11 A triumph of flimsy explanations, easily accepted.

Maria hides the fake preggo belly that's meant to hide her real preggo belly that has miraculously sprouted overnight since the writers realized that they'd forgotten that one small detail ("Pregnant women's bellies are supposed to get bigger as the pregnancy goes along? Are you sure? Have someone look it up on Wikipedia. Seriously? Damn…I guess we'd better have her start shoving a couch cushion under all her shirts.") Alonso surprises her and compliments her girth. He announces he's been hired as a photographer…a backup one ("de segunda mesa"), that is, as a favor for his buddy Oscar. Maria D confesses that she's feeling really nervous, but Alonso says he's got everything all ready and when her nerves get the better of her, she should just look at him and he'll buck her up. As they're hugging it out, Ximena comes in and gives Maria a hard time for picking up her leftovers. Alonso explains that Ximena aborted his baby. They start fighting about it, then Ximena threatens to get Maria fired and leaves. Alonso tells her not to let Xi manipulate her. "You're better than she is, and you'll show it on the runway!"

Fer has finished having Cruz's huevos rancheros (not a euphemism). Fer asks about her parents getting divorced. Cruz says that Xi is like a "cuchillito de palo" (cuchillito = little cuchillo, little knife; de palo = of wood)…it won't cut, but it sure does scrape at you! He insists it's not true and that what Xi said is BS. Her parents were already having problems. Fer says she was behaving rather "majadera" (stupidly) and that didn't help. Cruz said now she has time to make an effort and fix things. And he has a plan, but she's got to stick to it. Fer shakes on it and promises.

Milagros confesses to Napo that she got invited to the opera by the professor. And fell asleep. And snored. But thankfully, the Italian woke her up. Ja. Ja. Ja.

Vic tells Toni that she wants revenge on Os. Maybe by having an affair. But then she realizes she's more a mother than a woman. Toni asks what would happen if a hottie showed up. "You are divorced, after all." Vic says the kids come first. "The kids will have their own lives and they'll survive." Toni doesn't think she can date Gui after what he did to Os. The lawyers have already filed suit and if they prove Gui did it, he'll go to jail.

Xi whines to Gui over the phone. She wants him to make Vic look guilty (of Linda's murder, I assume).

Napo is going to party with the Jarochas. Blah, blah, blah. The come up in traditional dresses…hey! I had a similar costume when I did Ballet Folklorico in 7th grade. I keep pestering my dad to scan the picture for me. Oh, sorry, they were conversing. I don't care what they said. Mili is jealous, whatever.

Max comes into the runway room. Dude time. Max is all "Dude, what the hell are you doing here?" Alonso is all, "Dude, I'm taking pictures, DUH!" Oscar is all, "Max, dude, what's the problem? Alonso is a friend of mine. We couldn't get another dude to take pictures. What's your damage?" Max is all, "And did they tell you who you're taking pictures of?" Alonso is all, "Yeah, man, Maria Desamparada and your WIFE." *raspberry* Max asks for a minute alone with Alonso…dude style. The room clears from the testosterone fumes. Max is all, "Dude, when are you going to stop going after my dudette?" Alonso is all, "Dude, you're, like, MARRIED!" Max is all, "Yeah, but I don't love her, DUH! I just knocked her up is all." Alonso is all, "Yeah, I heard that from MARIA, my FRIEND, so save your breath." Max is all, "Whatever, dude, but what you don't know is that I luuuuurve Maria and once my baby is born and I divorce my baby mama, me and Maria are gonna get MARRIED. So there!" Alonso is all, "Well, right now Maria and I are both single and we can get it on if we want to. But we're just friends, so it's all good." Max is all, "Dude, I'm not buying the whole 'friends' thing, cause I know you've got the hots for her!" Alonso is all, "Dude, hypothetical, let's say I am in love with her…she's got the hots for you even though she knows she can never have you. If you really love her, leave her alone and let me shag her! Nothing says love like some Alonso lovin'!" Max is all, "Dude, let me explain…I love her and I can't live without her, got it?" Alonso is all, "Yeah, I get it. I used to love a chick like that, but now I hate her." Max is all, "Nice trick! How'd you do it?" Ximena comes in and is all "Dude, how long are you gonna keep me hangin?" Alonso turns around and realizes Ximena is "the wife." He's all "DAY-UM" nonverbally.

Gui calls Bernarda to make her an offer. She realizes whoever proposed it must be the one who really killed Linda. Gui gets snippy, but she tells him to cool it. She's interested, and they need to meet to finalize details. Gui says he'll call her later.

Max introduces Xi to Alonso, but Lon says he already knows her. Xi tries to act like they must have met professionally and LON PLAYS ALONG. Dumbass. He goes to get his stuff ready. Max thinks the two of them must not get along. Xi starts whining about the long wait. Her shrieks bring Mama Rox running. Rox tells her to calm down, have a little walk, feed Maxito, and they'll come back later. Oscar and Toni catch the very tail end of the drama and put on their confused faces.

The barrio crew are anxious that Maria isn't home yet and hasn't called either. JP is also worried because no one is at his mom's house.

Maria admires her pregnant belly in the mirror. Max comes into the dressing room and she gets weepy. They hug. Max says he can't live without her. Maria agrees, but says that's the way it is. Max doesn't care about fate, he cares about her. Smoochies. Come on, how stupid is he? He's gotta feel that the belly isn't fake! He tells her he would have given anything for her to be expecting his baby. He asks to touch the belly, but she says it's not really a belly, it's just a pillow. Max wants to cop a feel anyway and pretend it's his kid. "Can you imagine it! A child of ours! Half you and half me, calling you 'mom' and me 'dad'…hey! It moved!" Yeah, it did. But Maria says that's crazy talk. Max makes his confused thinky face and Maria looks sad and guilty. I swear, if the next thing out of her mouth is that it's a battery-powered fake-kicking belly…I don't know what I'll do, but it won't be pretty.

She insists it's a pillow and Max figures he must be going crazy. Maria says it makes her nervous to have him so close and she got all shaky, that's all. More smoochies. What. An. Idiot.

Nathy struggles with the laundry and Alacran helps her. She starts hanging the laundry to dry while he gets a good look at her ass.

Ximena comes down the catwalk and Pip praises her. Vic hopes Xi wears her favorite dress next. It's a surprise, though. Maria comes in and walks. Vic says that's the one she was thinking of. She designed it thinking of Fer. Bernie says it's too bad Fer can never wear it, since she can't even walk. "And your other daughter…don't you think of her? Have you resigned yourself to never seeing her again?" "As much as you've resigned yourself to Juan Pablo leaving the priesthood," Vic fires back and walks away. Alonso takes pictures while Max looks grumpy. Bernarda looks around at all the glances shooting around the room and thought bubbles that Max is jealous of Alonso. Looks like Alonso just got a promotion.

JuanJo finishes up an anti-drug talk to the Barrio Boyz. JuanJo and Napo unveil their campaign posters…

"Hazte adicto…" (Get addicted…)

"al deporte" (to sports)

Domingo likes it. JuanJo proposes they start a fútbal team and get into the tournament with teams from other barrios. JuanJo will coach, Napo will be captain and goalie. JuanJo sends them to recruit more team members.

Maria and Ximena are in the dressing room together. Maria bitches Xi out for taking pills that will hurt the baby. Xi needles her about being jealous that Max is with Xi and she's dying to tell him she's pregnant. "You won't do it, though, cause you don't have the guts!" Maria says she's doing it for Xi's baby, so Max doesn't abandon it. "If you keep taking those pills, I'll tell him everything!" "If Max leaves me for you, I'll kill myself!" Alonso is listening at the door. Maria is shocked at Xi for threatening to kill herself while she's pregnant. "If you tell Max you're expecting his baby, I'll carry out my threat!" Lon comes in and says it wouldn't be the first time Xi has harmed a baby. She's used to doing anything to satisfy her whims. "Because I'm used to winning!" She repeats her threat. "My death and the death of this child will be on your conscience!"

Max and Fabian talk about Alonso being around. Max loves Maria, he's jealous of Alonso, and Xi is going to be a lousy mother. Max will divorce her and take the baby away. He wishes Maria were having his baby instead.

Maria and Alonso chat about what a great job she did. Bernarda asks to speak to her. "See! It wasn't so difficult. You looked as great as always!" Maria is thankful that Bernarda is trying to protect her. Bernie says the last argument they had was meaningless, that's why she brought her back to be the star model of this house. Maria says it's too dicey--Max was about to find out the truth. She's never coming back again. Bernarda tells her not to be ungrateful. "Please forgive me, but I have good reasons not to take you up on your offer. Excuse me." Bernarda says Maria is just as "soberbia" (haughty) as she is and just as "torpe" (dense) and "testaruda" (stubborn) as her mother.

Alonso walks Maria out to his jeep, but she wants to stop and talk to Fausto for a minute. He apologizes for lying to her, but it was on Bernarda's orders. She understands and says he's a good man. He denies it, but Maria says, "I've noticed that you worry about me and try to protect me. And I'm grateful for that." Fausto says her words have filled his soul and no one like her has ever noticed him before. He says he'll protect her, even if it costs him his life. "If one day, the opportunity arises, you'll see I'm not lying." Maria excuses herself and says they'll talk more later. She thanks him again and reminds him he's a good man. Fausto thought bubbles that he's not a good man.

Alonso and Maria talk about why she can't tell Max that she's pregnant with his baby. Alonso realizes she loves him enough to sacrifice herself for him, and for Ximena's baby. Maria isn't willing to stick around and see if Xi follows through on her threat. She really wants to run away. Alonso offers his place outside DF for her to stay in.

Xi whines to Max that he doesn't love her and doesn't spend time with her and that he needs to love her and the baby can feel the lack of love. "I stopped the pills and the booze and now it's your turn." Max says they'll go out to dinner tonight. She's gotta pick the place and make the reservations. Xi gets all excited and says she'll make reservations at some little place they used to go to. She scampers away happily. And what have we learned from this little scene, kids? Whining gets results. Xi is dumb enough to be bought off by dinners, and telling her to make the reservations buys you at least five whine-free minutes. Possibly sending her to buy herself a new dress would get you another hour of peace. And most importantly…never have sex blindfolded! It doesn't lead to anything good. At best, you're sure to stub your toe, and that kind of pain doesn't go away any easier than the pain of being shackled to Ximena for life.

JP has brought Maria a basket of fruits and veggies, for her health and the health of his grandchild. Um…in a manner of speaking. Maria isn't put off and declares him the official grandfather of her child. She tells him what Bernarda had her doing all day. That Bernie is now the majority share holder of Casa Victoria (and she bought the shares with what money, after whining all the time that she doesn't have any cash?). JP wants to talk to her immediately, but Maria tells him that Lon wants her to go model for a print ad for cosmetics. JP isn't sure what to say--Alonso is a good guy, but they don't know him that well. Maria tells him that she's convinced she's over the whole love thing. JP laughs. "You're young yet. You don't know what life has in store for you." He's sure Maria, the baby, and he will form the family she's always wanted. Maria says she's never been able to call anyone by those names you call the people you share blood with. And she doesn't mean "jerkface" and "butthead," but "brother" "sister" etc.

Maria brings JP to the studio and tells Alonso that she can pose if JP is there. He's fine with it and introduces her to the stylists. Alonso notices that JP looks uncomfortable. JP admits that now that he sees the studio and how well organized it is, he can see that Lon is serious. Alonso says he knows how he comes off at first glance and he understands. Lon starts to explain the campaign for Lovely Cosmetics. It will all be close-ups of her face and the pregnancy will give her that glow. Like a visual Eau de Protagonista, if you will.

Fer invited Fabian over to apologize. She realizes she was very rude to him. Fab tells her to chill. The important thing is for her to do her therapy. "You know I love you. I'm not asking you to return my love, I just want you to accept my help." Fer agrees.

Maria is all ready for the photo shoot. Alonso applauds the stylists and gets to work. JP looks on like a proud papa. He interrupts to ask if Alonso will take a picture of the two of them together. Alonoso is only too happy.

The outro of William Levy's personal hygiene PSA now has a voiceover of him saying "Don't go away…we'll be back." That was kinda creepy. If you're gonna do that with the shower scene, at least make it a little huskier and less matter-of-fact!

The photo session continues. It occurs to me that even if Fer can't be a runway model until her therapy and multiple painful operations show results, she can do print ads with Maria and they can bond before they find out they're sisters. Just saying. The photo session ends and Lon gets to developing, old-school. "Even though you're so alone, with so many problems, you still want to have your child. All that courage and all that beauty! You deserve an homage. I'm going to surprise you."

Fab stretches Fer's leg while she looks on warily. Cruz comes climbing in the window with a rose and falls when he sees Fabian. Fer grins.

JP loves his new family portrait. Padre Geronimo is happy for him. JP is so glad he'll be around to see the miracle of birth, etc. He says the kid won't lack for the love and protection of a father. He tells Padre G that he just found out his crazy mama bought controlling shares in Casa Vic and he's gonna find out why.

Bernie says she did it to protect Maria, and so he'll go back to the priesthood. JP says he'll take the P back when his grandchild is born. Bernie says since she can't count on him for anything, she also bought the company as a retirement investment. She takes her leave since she has some *ahem* responsibilities to attend to (subtext: unlike some people who have shirked on their duties of praying for my decrepit soul!).

Os talks to his team of lawyers about Gui's fraud. They tell him they'll take care of it.

Bernie visits Gui. She wants to put the plan in motion quickly to stop Vic from investigating something that happened in the past. She's not worried, because there's no proof, but she doesn't like it that an "arribista" (social climber) like Victoria "me esté pisando los talones" (stepping on my heels; is hot on my heels). Gui promises to take care of it ASAP. Bernie says she's got to go back to the office, because she's got a lot of work to do. She came over just for that? Fausto and Gui have a stare-down before Fausto walks out.

Max returns a call to his PI. She found out the picture was taken not at a private school, but a school run by nuns which tells them that she was never adopted. She knows that the school closed down and the nuns came to the DF. "So my sister might be living in DF?" Dude, don't start calling her that. Things are weird enough as it is.

Cue Max and Maria running into each other outside the orphanage. Hm. Not as effective as the kayak, for my money.

Tomorrow: Maria and Alonso are having dinner at the same place as Max and Xi; Max hears that Maria's having his baby; Alonso claims the baby as his (oh, come on, how are you gonna explain that?).

Teresa Thu 4/7/11 #7 Que Tragedia

I apologize up front for the lengthy post and will try to get better at consolidating my recaps.

At the hospital, the doctor is breaking the bad news - Rosita has just passed away. He said she suffered from a congenital heart defect. Everyone breaks down in tears. Teresa pleads with everyone to allow her to see her sister. She runs and claws at the door. Mariano holds her back and she collapses against him.

Johnny is blaming himself because he knew about her medical problems and should have done something to stop her from competing. Mariano assures him this was no one's fault. There was no cure for her disease; she could've died at any time. It's best to remember her as she was and how happy they were together. His love for her will keep her alive. Touching scene with Teresa visiting Rosa's body. She bitterly regrets she wasn't able to see her compete and win the medal; or that she didn't tell her how much she loved her. She sees the medal and places it on the body and curses that this was all due to the lack of money (maldito dinero) and then she vows (a la Scarlett in GWTW) that she will never ever (nunca! nunca! nunca!) suffer like this again and she repeats her mantra -- ser o no ser, yo soy -- Never again will I shed another tear (nunca!nunca!nunca!) due to poverty. She wipes the tears from her face.

Ruben (del bigote bruto) is telling Maira he'll be late tonight -- has a lot of business to see to (yeah, MONKEY business) before they go on their trip. She tells him she'll be shopping for lingerie (lenceri) after the club. He tells her maybe she should wait and he’ll buy her some in Paris! (the snake!)

Back at the hospital, Esperanza is consoling Johnny when her cell phone rings (gasp). It's El Bigote - Get ready mi amor because you have me all to yourself today. She responds "well, um DOCTOR, (cuz Johnny's listening) I won't be able to see you today cuz something terrible has happened." "Who are you with?" he demands… ugh he's such a snake -- then she tells him about Rosita's death. That shuts him up.

Aurora and Mariano are talking about the arrangements. She'll take Rosa's parents back to the vecindad as that's where they want to have the wake for Rosa. In walks El Profe (gosh he's cute) offering to help. Mariano's very short with him and tells him no further help is needed. Arturo understands he's not so close to the family as to offer moral support, but surely they can use additional financial assistance. Mariano assures him Teresa's parents don't want any more money if it's coming from him. Arturo points out that's up to her parents, que no? or maybe even up to Teresa. Mariano tells him Teresa is muy afectada after seeing her sister's body. Furthermore, the only one responsible for Teresa not being able to say goodbye to her sister is Arturo. She didn't make it in time to see her sister compete in her final meet so taking money from Arturo would be an insult. After all, she was at his book release rather than at her sister's side.

Esperanza meets with El Bigote after all. He tells her she's very late. She feels bad - Rosa wasn't even 15, so sad. Ruben tells her to forget about all that and enjoy their time together (unfeeling cad) After all, he moved heaven and earth for them to spend this whole day together. Esperanza: “What? You're not going to work?” Ruben: “No, we're going to be together today because I need to go on a trip.” Esperanza doesn't look too happy at this revelation.

At the wake/rosary: Teresa is standing at the coffin. I know you’re in heaven because that's where you belong. Please watch over us and help us out of this misery. Mariano tries to console her and reminds her that Rosita is no longer here, but in heaven. Teresa cries out "Esta muerta! - And I won't believe this trash about her having died due to an illness. She died due to our lack of money. If she had been better nourished as a child, if she had better health care, if she had better living conditions...... Mariano says none of that would have made a difference. It was a birth defect and her death couldn't be avoided. "Sueltame, dejame en paz! (Let me go! Leave me alone!) Mariano steps away and in walks el quapisimo Profe (sorry, can't help myself). Arturo goes to her side and she leans against him. (hey, did I see her make a face like she was calculating her next move b4 he came up to her?)

At the love nest – Esperanza is sitting on Ruben's lap pouting that she won't see him for 3 weeks. He says, “Oh, believe me it's going to be pure torture being away from you, but you know, business calls.” Esperanza grudgingly agrees. He tells her to change out of her nurse's uniform and get all dolled up cuz “We are going out on the town and later, well, later we'll have lots and lots of time together.” As Esperanza skips off to change, Ruben's phone rings. It's Aida. We only hear his side of the conversation telling her he can't possibly tear himself away from work because after all he'll be gone for a long time on a vacation with her mother. He doesn't realize that Esperanza has come back to the room. "Are you going on a trip with your wife?" ruh-roh!

Aurora runs into Mariano outside (I like these two together). He’s hurt cuz Teresa asked him to leave her alone. Aurora encourages him to have patience. Teresa loved her sister so much and she’s really not thinking straight. Mariano agrees to take a break and to accompany her to have coffee.

Arturo and Teresa are talking next to Rosa's coffin. Teresa tells him this is so difficult especially when she looks at her parents. He can't imagine their suffering. They walk over to her parents and he offers his condolences and any help they may need, financial or anything else. They thank him kindly for his offer. Teresa thanks him but says it’s one thing to pay for her education since she’ll be paying him back by working for him but it’s quite another to accept money that she will never be able to pay back. She refuses any further financial assistance but is very grateful he came by, a kindness she will never forget.

Aurora and Mariano are talking over a coffee about Teresa and how she'll need the love and support of all her friends. Aurora asks how long they've known each other, etc. Mariano tells her Teresa and he have known each other their whole lives. She was his first love. In fact, she is the love of his life. Ohhhh, Aurora is taken aback at this statement. Aurora says she noticed the affection between them when she saw him consoling her at the hospital. She accidentally spills hot coffee on herself as she turns to leave. He offers a napkin and she strongly tells him to leave her alone and refuses any further offers of first aid, including applying a papa to the burn. She suggests he go back to Teresa now. (guess the papa offer ticked her off)

Ruben is pleading with Esperanza behind a locked door. Don't ever do this to me again! He gets the keys and gets into the room where we see Esperanza crying in a corner. “So, you're going on a trip with your wife. You lied to me! You really weren’t having problems.” Ruben: “I hate her, no la soporto.” Esperanza “Yeah, that's why you're going on a 3-week vacation with her?” Ruben: “You don't understand. Aida has nagged and nagged that I reconcile with her mother, including sharing a bedroom. I only agreed to try one last time to reconcile with her to see if it would work out, which it won't because I only love you.” Esperanza: “I don't believe you.” Ruben: “I only agreed to this trip to please my daughter. She’ll see that when things don't work out after this trip, she'll accept our need to divorce.” He swears to Esperanza that he and his wife detest each other. Esperanza: “Really? Do you swear?” Ruben: “I promise the only reason I agreed to this trip was in the hopes that when we return I can convince my daughter that a divorce is the only solution.” Esperanza: “The thought of you with another woman, even your wife, makes me want to die.” Ruben: “Oh stop such nonsense, you're the only woman I love. You remember when we met, I was already separated. I returned only for my daughter’s sake. I couldn't let her go back on drugs. She's the only reason I stay with my wife. The only woman I want to be with all the time is you. You believe me don't you?” Esperanza: “I’m so afraid of what can happen on that trip.” Ruben: “Why mi amor? Trussssssst me. I love you.” He carries her to the bedroom. “At first I did think you were just an aventura. I don't know when I fell so hard for you. I love you.” They reach the bed and start making out.

Mariano is insisting that Aurora let him look at her arm. They see Arturo on his way out. Mariano “What are you doing here? I told you we don't need your help.” Arturo: “Well, that’s not really your business and I had to give her parents my condolences. Aurora, please tell Teresa she can take as much time as she needs.” Aurora: “What was that all about?” Mariano confesses he’s afraid Teresa will fall for Arturo -- money, power, everything he can't offer. Aurora tells him that if they really love each other, all the money in the world can't separate them. (Wanna bet?)

Teresa apologizes to Mariano for lashing out at him it's just that she can't help but think how different things would be if they had money. They embrace as Aurora looks on muy dolorida. Later,

Refugio, Armando, Teresa, and Juana return to the now dark, empty apartment. The coffin is now gone as are all the mourners. The only thing left is a vase of flowers. What will we do without her? Teresa in their bedroom -- nothing will be the same without Rosita. Juana suggests she think of her as a new angelito that will watch over them from heaven. So sad.

Mariano asks Esperanza what gives. She seems different, nervous. He thinks it strange that they would perform Pablito's tests for free at the hospital (cute and smart) and knows that's not how things are done. He also noticed Espe didn’t seem to know anyone there. Offers her his help (cute, smart, and compassionate). Espe swears him to secrecy……um, she’s unemployed, yeah that’s it. Please don't tell anyone she doesn’t have a job. Mariano’s relieved. He thought it was something much worse. Lies aren't good. Espe tells him she now has a new job with an elderly lady. Espe: “If everything works out well, it will be the happiest thing that has happened to anyone in this vecindad.”

Ruben and Maira meet with Genoveva. She tells them their daughter is in good hands with her son. Ruben is a little concerned on that front. Genoveva says not to worry, let the kids enjoy themselves. Besides, she always tells her son "Portate mal, cuidate bien" (Behave badly, protect yourself well -- reference to condoms?) Ruben: “Hey, hey, this is my daughter you're talking about" Mayra walks away to take a call on her cell and this is where it really gets interesting: Genoveva: “So you're going on a honeymoon -- Ay Ruben, what wouldn't I give to go on such a trip.....with you.” Ruben: “Shut up” Genoveva: “Don't worry, I would never tell anyone about our past relationship. And anyway, it would cause me more damage (perjudicaria) than it would you. I do miss you and you know it.”

Teresa in bedroom talking to Rosita’s picture: “I swear to you things will be different. I've got to get out of this place. I don't deserve this poverty!” She begins to undress. Juana walks in and asks what's wrong. Teresa: “I'm trying to fix myself up. I look horrible. I'm all haggard, gaunt (ojerosa, demacrada) and above all, dressed in black.” (remember this scene in GWTW, anyone?) Juana: “This is very painful. It's normal for you to feel this way.” Teresa: “No, it's not normal! I refuse to take Rosita's death lying down (brazos cruzados -- literally arms crossed) like everyone else crying over Rosita's death I will never suffer like this again due to poverty. Wealthy people never have to suffer like this. From this day forward, no more mourning, no more regrets. I will do the impossible to go far and to do what I need to look good.” Juana: “To respect Rosita, you must observe mourning at least until the end of the novenas (nine days of rosaries). Do it for your parents who are also suffering.” Teresa: “Not one more day. Not.one.more.day.” She starts to throw things around saying this is all trash. She sits and begins to cry (so much for her vow not to cry over poverty)

Avances:
Aida sees Teresa hugging Mariano – “So, now you’re dating a taxi driver.”
Aida tells Paolo Teresa is besoteando (kissing) the taxi driver
