La Que No Podía Amar #64 Lunes 3/26/12 A Child Awaits... a Revelation
Rogelio: If you think I couldn't conduct myself as a parent with my bad temper, madness, toughness, would that be more than the boy could imagine. The accident I had –
Ana Paula: What?
Rogelio: Nothing.
Ana Paula: It's something about Margarito?
Rogelio: No, no. Nothing important.
Ana Paula: How is it nothing important? You talked about your accident before.
Rogelio: What I want to say is that after the accident, I was told I couldn't have children.
Ana Paula: I'm sorry. It's too bad because I see you love Margarito.
Rogelio: Yes. I like the idea of adopting him. I promise you to make sure he is never alone.
Ana Paula: That is very generous on your part.
Rogelio: Therefore I don't understand why you're not wanting to adopt him.
Ana Paula: It's that I don't know. Don't know.
Rogelio: Was this about your boyfriend? Could he not accept you with the boy?
Ana Paula: No, no. That has nothing to do with it. I have no doubt that if I took Margarito he would feel like yours.
Rogelio: Then, what is there to lose? What's to stop us?
Ana Paula: Please, Aunt, relax; there's no need to be nervous.Rosaura: No, no, no, Ana Paula! How can you adopt a child of unknown origin?Ana Paula: Please, Aunt, this isn't what you think. A child needs to be cared for. He needs parents, a family. When my contract is up he'll come with me.Rosaura: How can you do that? Rogelio lives like a king!Ana Paula: I won't leave without Margarito.Rosaura: What? He won't stay here?Ana Paula: No. Rogelio agreed he would go with me. He will pay child support.Rosaura: Child support?Ana Paula: Yes.Rosaura: Then, well, if the child won't be a burden to us, very well. Besides you don't have to leave if you love him.Ana Paula: I can't stay here because I love Gustavo. Aunt, I can't stand to see him with Sinthia. I hurt when I see them together, kissing.Rosaura: It's a pity. Because Rogelio loves you very much. [too much?] What's more, he said he was buying lands for you.Ana Paula: I don't know anything about that.Rosaura: Think about it well.Ana Paula: No; I have nothing to think about.Rosaura: You can't disparage it. He's giving you this gift because he loves you.Ana Paula: Aunt, I don't love him.Rosaura: You know what? I think you love both of them.
Rosaura: For all that you deny it, it's true.
Ana Paula: Aunt, if it was that I loved both of them as you say, I must choose. [escoger]
Rosaura: No we don't. We're selfish and when we love someone we want them all to ourselves. But our hearts can love more than one. I have no doubt.
Ana Paula: That is not good. For me, love is about being with someone, sharing the journey, building something between us... the caresses of another do not matter. It's not looking for something a partner can't provide.
Rosaura (with an exasperated expression): You are excessively romantic, but life teaches us it's not like this. You have to be practical. (snaps her fingers condescendingly)
Ana Paula: No, then we're not talking about love, but convenience.
Rosaura: Well, call it what you want. I know you love Gustavo... but also Rogelio. You win with one and lose with the other.
Ana Paula: And the loser? What of him?
Rogelio (as Ana Paula crosses herself): Still praying for Margarito?
Ana Paula (gesturing): Take off your hat.
Rogelio (hands it to her and hand-combs his hair into its most flattering look): Don't worry. We can settle this between us. What are you thinking?
Ana Paula: Rogelio, I have to be very honest with you.
Rogelio: Yes.
Ana Paula: Of course I love Margarito and want to protect him and for us to adopt him, but when my contract is up I will leave.
Rogelio (looking away for a moment): That's what I thought you would say.
Ana Paula: Effectively, I want to take Margarito with me. Is that alright with you? [???]
Rogelio: I promise you. You have my word.
Ana Paula (smiles): Therefore, let's adopt him. (their love theme begins in the background)
Rogelio: Thanks, Paula.
Ana Paula: Why?
Rogelio: Because never did I think I'd have a family, be the father of a child. A child with you.
Ana Paula: Surely. But perhaps it would be better to wait until the paperwork is in order, to make sure we can adopt him. I just want it to be official. I don't know much about these things, but I know it can't be easy. I don't want to get his hopes up before it's a certainty.
Rogelio: Yes, yes, you're right. I will speak with someone in the office. (she hands his hat back to him) I will see you later. (exits as the Indecision Foxtrot begins again).
Gustavo: Is this how you continue to take advantage of Rogelio, to keep receiving more money after your contract ends?Ana Paula: How dare you (slaps him) You know that I want to divorce him because I love you. And I thought he tried to have you killed. I want Margarito with me because he loves me and I adore him. If you think I am staying at Rogelio's side for convenience that's your problem. (walks away)
Ana Paula: I hope you believe me because everything I told you is true. [???] Rogelio is a good man. (hands the envelope to him) I am very grateful to him for getting Miguel out of prison and helping my family. And for his attentions to me. He is a marvelous man and any woman would fall in love with him. (Gustavo turns away) But my problem, Gustavo, is that I fell in love with you before. And I believed you dead when I married him under this contract. Read it. Read it well and understand why I can't just divorce him and run back into your arms as you'd want me to. (he takes out the document and begins reading, then shakes his head)
Gustavo: Ana...Ana Paula: Gustavo, hear me. Do you feel the same love for me as before?
Ana Paula: Although I am dying to kiss you, after everything that's happened I will not hurt Rogelio. And you belong to Sinthia. Tell me one thing, Gustavo. Are you in love with Sinthia?
Gustavo (taking her hand): When I thought I'd lost you, when I thought I couldn't go on without you, she appeared like a light on my path. Sinthia is important to me.Ana Paula: But you can never be in love with Sinthia if you are still in love with me. (Their love theme begins and they kiss.)
Gustavo: Expressing our feelings.Ana Paula: Yes, but I have a promise to keep.Gustavo: Nothing is more important than you and me. We will leave here right now.Ana Paula (looking both sad and worried): What?Gustavo: Are you disposed to leave here with me?
Gustavo: Why not? I will help you find a solution for your brother. I'll help you get the money you need. (she turns away from his touch)Ana Paula: It's not that, Gustavo. Rogelio has treated me well, Gustavo. I made a commitment to him. Understand me.Gustavo: Are you sure it's only about that, Ana?Ana Paula: Ay, please understand that in order to resolve my family's problems I agreed to help a man who could put up with all that and I swear he is a good person. I don't want to hurt him.Gustavo: Ana, tell me something. What is really going on?Ana Paula: I have my back against the wall. Understand that.Gustavo: Very well. I love you as you are. Whatever happens I will feel the same.
Gustavo: Why would he suffer? He told me when we were together that he'd like us to take care of him. Isn't that what you'd want? Why, Ana?Ana Paula: Because I told Rogelio that he and I will adopt him.Gustavo: I am also willing to adopt Margarito. Ana, you can I can raise him if we're together. Or is what I have not enough for you?Ana Paula: It's not that. Understand that I will not go back on my word. Although I am dying to leave everything to be with you I can't do it. Nothing will make me break my contract with Rogelio and you need to end things with Sinthia.Gustavo (angry): You're telling me to end things with Sinthia and you and Rogelio... what?
Gustavo: Think about it, Ana. If you adopt Margarito with Rogelio you will be tied to him forever in some way. If you want to leave with me, couldn't you be happy with me?Ana Paula: You're right. There is no solution for this. I don't think I can see you again. I can't be with you until I've completed with my contract. (releases his hands and the opera music begins. She exits crying.)
Sinthia: I don't believe you truly have no limits, Paula. (picks up a shard of glass and holds it out at a threatening distance from Ana Paula's face) I know that you and my brother want to adopt Margarito, but you don't fool me. This is for your convenience. You can pretend to love him but he can't make you pregnant – (starts to close in)
Ana Paula (incredulous; knocking her hand away): Relax, please! Calm down!
Sinthia: Shut up, mosquita muerta. You rejected Vanessa's offer because you thought with my brother you'd have more.
Ana Paula: Shut up and refrain from offending me. I have tried explaining things but you do not want to know – (starts to exit, but Sinthia drags her back)
Sinthia: You are worse than I thought. You would use this child with unknown parents. (exits in another snit worse than the previous.)

Una Familia Con Suerte #179-180 Mon 3/26/12 Love is a Many Splendored Thing, but Trickery and Jealousy Make the World Go Round
Candi whines nothing new and annoys me and all the other characters on set.
Vincente tries to snow Pina into thinking he only thinks about her but the slip to keep asking for forgiveness is a dead give away. The Lopez women encourage Candi to count her blessings: looks, lack of escuincles, potential with men, yaddah, yaddah.
Mechanical girl, aka Frida, questions Pepe about Moni, he talks about missing her a lot while Mechi sniffs his sweaty greasy body. Well who wouldn’t! But she continues to advance step by step on dangerous turf while he seems to treat her like a new guy friend, with no fear but also no recognition that he is being hunted.
We once again see feet approach the cell bars in fancy leather shoes, the hands give Napo something which he swallows, he takes them then falls to the floor in this Marcel Marceau moment. Miraculously the prison officials and a doctor come to find him dead within seconds.
Oh, nice bed scenes with Pancho and Rebe finding a great way to makeup for lost time, we see pink dawn clouds streaking to remind us they spent the night together. Next morning the kids make sweet jokes about the reunion as they all sit at the breakfast table. A call comes from the prison to tell Candi that her husband Napo Villareal died last night in the prison.
Hearing the news with mouth agape, Candi is told she needs to come to identify the body as she is the widow of record… She whines that she has to go see him again. Tomas jumps up and offers that they (he) can go with her. She doesn’t want it. Nor does Temo have much success offering to miss school to help on this important mission. Chacho looks like he will be the indicated companion for this onerous task. She probably had a pedi/mani booked by the look of her pouty face.
Rebe in evening off shoulder wear and Pancho show up to kiss in front of Pina and Vincent.
Candi and Chacho are shown into the morgue room with a huge sheeted table bulging with its cargo. They pass pleasantries with the warden then he pulls back the sheet to reveal Napo with no shirt she gets to observe him alone while the warden goes for the paper work and Chacho trots behind him.
Pina declares that all the money in the world still doesn’t give anyone class! She and Vince plan their take over of the company.
Candy does cry sincerely while she says how can she ever thank Napo for all he did for her even though he was a criminal. The smile on his deadish face is almost turning into a grin but he must be sucking in his cheeks and holding his breath to maintain this serenity.
Ana discusses with Franco that her publicity stunts (I mean stints) begin tomorrow and that will be followed immediately by several tours with interviews and coverage in each city. Franco believes totally in her, in her band and in the disc. Franco tells her that right away she will be spending every night in a different city. She only says with glee and only with thoughts of herself (not room in the tiny brain for more) that she really wants to get on with it (tengo mucho ganas).
Pancho and Rebe get back to work with lots of flirting and happiness or at least they are in the office.
Kari takes over Freddy’s arm while he is talking to two lovely young women. Lupita sees the action and foresees problems for her sister’s touring life.
Rebe and Pancho discuss that Napo may have been given a toxic drug that only appears to make him look dead and just then Mako (sharkie) shows up with the other black suited guards and a substitute body. Mako gives Napy an injection which almost immediately makes him sputter to life. He asks first for his dark glasses then continues to shake off the drug effects.
Vince is just hearing that Napo died while in another porch Candi and Chela talk about Candi’s state. Chela refuses to speak ill of the dead. Chela points out how rich Candi is now which makes Candi smile for the first time in two episodes, she is truly happy about the rich widow part.
Mako asks Napo to kill him since he could not follow his orders and kill Candi. Napo chooses to take him along and puts the offered gun down. I guess he likes Mako’s work most of the time. He does look so cool in his slim black suit and more than handsome Asian face under plastered back hair cut mostly like Napo’s but neater. (I’m just saying.) I was so astounded that I missed some of the discussion that may have explained why they had such a great look alike cadaver to leave on the gurney. Someone at Caray Caray suggested that Napo masks might have been on sale. Feel free to fill in the blanks. A young guard comes back at the last minute remembering to take the sheet off of new Napocadaverolean. We fade to fake flames indicating that the evidence of the switcheroo will be destroyed soon.
Pancho and Rebe continue face eating at the Japanese restaurant, a non Asian but great looking waiter (I don’t know what this new lens is doing to my brain but I like it) explains to Pancho that he is going to serve him a traditionally poisonous fish dish that people get off on defying death with paying many pesos. The soup that eventually comes looks great.
Chela talks about missing the children but liking her new life. Enzo, right? Teases Candi. They talk about Vicente telling Chela that he still loves Candi. Speak of the devil who is telling Sandra that he remembers that it was she who originally told Pina that Candi was his lover. Now Sandra is trying to convince him that his secrets are safe with her.
Rebe and Pancho take valuable company time IM’ing each other while in the same room until Rebe finally remembers that they have a lot of work to do. Lupita interrupts the joking. Lupita wants to talk with both of them. Pancho shows her pictures of the new property he purchased for everyone to live in after the quake. We leave the scene before anyone asks Lupita what she wanted to say.
Then we switch to seeing how very, very handsome Tomas is in his new policia luke. Wow, I’m glad they only showed exercises of rookies with Tomas attentively allowing us to oooogle him with no pesky dialog to pay attention to.
Sandra tells Vince that she is confused about telling him that Candi wants him still when she doesn’t want to upset his new get back together time with Pina. She advises him to stick with his marriage. True love with Chacho has actually made Sandra seem sensible and smart. It falls on expectedly deaf ears.
More canoodling with Rebe who has to pay a kiss fine to Pancho before he will let her leave the room with Lupita so he can work…
Elena gives another naca argument on why she can’t work, can’t study and can’t justify the air she breaths. Yawn, she and I both. I can’t believe Tomas is wasting time telling her to observe and model herself after Lupita instead of always being jealous of her.
Sandra is hearing how Vince is going crazy because he doesn’t know how to continue hiding his relationship that can now restart or has never really died with Candi. Pina walks in just in time to ask, you are going crazy over what?
Well Pepe and Frida arrive at the Pits to race their respective hot cars. Pepe gallantly offers MechiFrida a protective helmet. She takes it in her hand like he had given her a rose. Not a good sign.
Pina finally gets to ask Vince what he was discussing with Sandra. He pretends it was only about the greengrocer Pancho.
Tomas chides Elena a bit more and she seems to agree that she can’t continue being jealous and useless all the time. He vows he will always look out for her and care for her. At least she has enough sense to say thanks and give him a hug.
Meanwhile the race continues with Pepe mostly in the lead.
Pancho’s secretary is told she can usher in a visitor, who comes in praising Pancho and declaring how honored to meet him. It turns out to be PJS that is a political group that needs Pancho to be their deputy federal representative. Huh? Says Pancho and I agree. Not really clear what that is about or who put the slick little pol up to it. Everything seems like it is such a trick these days on Familia, I am likely to miss a few sincere moments.
Lupita shares a love note that Tomas wrote her with Rebe. They grin over the sweetness of the new Tomas with his new ways and new Luke. She also shares that she is glad that her father and Rebe have made up since clearly he loves her like crazy. Rebe assures Lupita that she loves him just as wildly.
The race comes to an end. Pepe and I suspect that she let him win. She reminds him that he offered to show her his new digs yesterday. He says now they need to get back to work but sure he will keep his word to show her first.
Lupita has now taken Rebe in as her total confidant and asks her advise on whether she should tell Ana what she saw Freddy and Kari do at school. This must be what she came to say to Rebe and Pancho earlier. Rebe says she better tell Ana because she is just like her father, she is so transparent that Ana will know something is wrong.
The slick pol is continuing to flatter Pancho about running for office. The slick mechanica is continuing to flatter Pepe and arrives at the apartment building and goes all clingy with Pepe as Chela watches them go into the building with a Que the Hell on her lips.
Vince calls Candi who doesn’t answer while Napo does pace on the beach with his drink in a shirtless suit (so that’s why I thought it was a robe in the previews.) and thinks about Candi too. Things are about to get more complicated for Candi and none of it seems good.
Pancho and Rebe discuss why don’t they revamp their engagement and better why not get married as soon as possible. She grins whole heartedly at the suggestion.
Rebe says she can’t! Can’t what? asks Pancho, can’t marry me? No I can’t even speak. They kiss some more.
Candi finally answers Vince and reads him the riot act. She tells him she no longer wants to see him because he is married. She won’t play the game again. What game? The hiding game, she says. She says if he doesn’t have a divorce papers in his hands and apparently he doesn’t, then she will not talk to him again! She screams into the phone.
Mechi is going crazy over Pepe/Moni’s love nest apartment. It is so much better than what she lives in that she can’t believe Moni would turn up her nose at something so luxurious. She tries touching Pepe again in her skin tight undershirt and the door knocking saves him and yes it is Chela to the rescue. Pepe introduces them still as dumb as a post while Chela sits down firmly and asks her what she does. She is a mechanic. Chela says, that is unusual for a woman, while Pepe joins them with coffee and declares that Frida is a great little mechanic. Chela suddenly puts the cup down and says she isn’t supposed to drink coffee. Pepe fills Frida in on the baby news, with Chela adding that she is seven weeks along.
Candi and Tema fill Abuela Fer in that Napo has hung up his tennies (ha colgado sus tenis), He is dead clarifies Candi. Temoc is only sad that he never got that helicopter ride in time.
Chela very directly asks Frida if she realizes that Pepe has a girlfriend and of course she does. Chela again not mincing words, says to Pepe you shouldn’t be here with a young woman alone in your home then. Pepe swears they are just cuates like he actually means it. Frida pushes it off and we know she doesn’t really agree but as Chela leaves she hugs her half to death.
Rebe and Pancho sail into quick wedding plans. Pancho is trying to get plans made immediately on the phone. She doesn’t care about the band, the cake, the guests or anything just being with him. Well it’s about time for these two. They seal it with yet another lovely kiss.
Dona Fer comes into the kitchen to find Goya in tears because her mother is ill. Fer tells her to gather her things and she will give her money to travel to her mother’s. Chucha tells her to have a good journey and isn’t Dona Fer a great person.
Rebe and Pancho tell the planner that they want to marry at the end of the month. That is not much time but they don’t care. She promises that because it is them she will do all in her power to pull off the greatest wedding.
Another love fest, Enzo tells Chela he knows she loves Pancho but she declares that not only does she not love Pancho, perhaps she never loved him, that it was all an illusion. Enzo declares that he has the purest love for Chela there in his heart.
Vince and Sandra argue over a speech he is writing. She has him say, he realizes he was insensitive. Which he spends time denying.
Pina is arguing with Ado when the news of Napo’s death is announced on TV. A statement by Pancho that I didn’t catch makes Pina talk out of control.
Enzo and Chela slip into a fantasy of kissing their adorable baby that hasn’t been born yet. He has no doubts whatsoever about loving or wanting to marry her. They flash back on the romantic dinner when he whipped out the guitar to sing. That ended with the ring coming out of the guitar. He reminds her that he offered and she promised to think about it and give him an answer and he is still waiting for an answer. He is down on his knees with the ring again and this time she says yes, yes, yes. They kiss a bunch. He can’t believe it and she says believe it because nothing would make her happier than to marry him. More romantic kisses! Gee, will they make it a DOUBLE??
Freddy shows up and hears his parents discuss hiring Franco to take Ana on an endless tour away from their son. At the same time, Lupita tells Ana about what she saw Kari do with Freddy. Freddy confronts his perfidious parents.
Pepe and Frida part for the evening and she pretends to be the cuate he thinks she is but has sad eyes as he goes off.
Back at Casa Irabién, the parents quickly pretend that they did arrange the tour for Ana but it was all to show their support of their Nenenene in his choice of loves. Freddy isn’t buying it and goes off declaring that their plot doesn’t smell good at all. Que mala onda.
Fer tries to get Pancho to tell what the big family meeting is about. Poor Doc Oc shows up and admits that he arrived late because he got lost. Oops. Before Pancho begins his speech, Dona Fer wants to tell them all that Goya had to leave and she gave her money to go see her ailing mother. Pancho tells them that he is proud of Elena and second he will be a federal deputy. And, And, wait for it, then Rebe stands up by his side and he says before the end of the month that they are going to marry. The crowd goes wild!
Next time: Enzo and Chela add their news of matrimony for the family to cheer over. Pina insults Candi more about her disaster, but Vicente is falling farther off the wagon and the two begin to have fantasy meetings.

Abismo de pasión #11 3/26/12: Gabino’s day starts out with a bang and bang
Gabino is trying to get Antonia drunk at the Cantina. Really? She’s really going to fall for that old trick? I mean the guy is practically force-feeding her. She also seems to believe his stupid line that he’s not a bad guy, it’s just complicated being the boss of others. Right...
Paloma gets home to the yerberia and yells at Ramona for lying that her dad is dead. That spotlessly reliable source Gabino told her otherwise!
Next morning the cock crows, literally and figuratively, as Gab wakes up with his latest victim, Antonia, beside him. Shoot, that was way too easy. We get a gratuitous body shot of him but he is so mean to her I want to pull out all his chest hairs one by one. She says they're gonna get married right? He pushes her back by her face and asks her why would he marry a cualquiera, an easy lay such as she? It was her first time, she says. Too late, the belt buckle has spoken.
Disgusto wakes up hung over when Lolita knocks on his door to tell him Carmina has disappeared. He doesn’t care.
Antonia is working in the kitchen all teary and depressed. She gets even more so when Fina shows up and fires her because everyone in town knows she went to the cantina and ended up with Gabino. Gee, I wonder if she’ll fire Gabino too? (rhetorical question) Antonia pleads she was deceived and promises to behave like a decent girl from now on. Fina agrees, as long as Antonio remains in her debt the rest of her life. (Eh? sounds like a crappy deal to me.)
Gabino cockily rides up to work. When he gets off his horse Carmina strides out of the shadows with her rifle cocked. (Sorry, I can’t seem to stop saying that word.) Sadly, he manages to knock the rifle out of her hand just as it fires, he says next time he’ll kill her. She has a meltdown.
Lolita tells Disgusto that Carmina took the rifle and went to the procesadora. A short time later he arrives there as Mara the nice secretary attempts to calm down Carmaniac. He gently retrieves the rifle and roughly grabs Car like a sack of habaneros and throws her on the horse. He’s such an a$$. He takes her home and they have a fight about it. He says nothing merits killing a man (point taken). They fight some more about him being the father of her child. Unbelievably, he says the important thing is that she recovers. He wants her to go back to the clinic.
She refuses so the doctor makes a house call. Doc Talk tells her she’s stronger than she thinks. She takes his hand and asks a big favor, could he please tell Augusto she couldn’t have been pregnant before she married him? She can’t stand another family scandal. Pwetty Pwease?
Lolita and Blanca talk sweetly about preparing Elisa for school. Then they smile and talk about Lolita’s “upcoming” wedding, you know, that one that will probably never happen, especially when Blanca comments how bummed Elisa will be when Lolita leaves.
The doc advises Disgusto to take care of Carmina. He doesn’t know why she tried to shoot that guy, but she’s not in her right mind. It’s hard to lose a child and Carmina needs help. Doc Talk says the child’s death was likely precipitated by the accident.
Braulio finds Antonio in tears and looking for Padre Lupe. Padre’s not around so Braulio wants to help. She flings herself on him in time for Lolita to get an eyeful. Antonia give Brau a kiss and oopsie, mild-mannered Lolita goes Loloca, slaps Antonia and breaks up with Braulio. Wow, that was a short engagement.
Augusto blasts through the doors of Casa Haranguo with an earful for Fina. If she wants nothing to do with his family then why did she go to the clinic looking to torment Carmina? He tells her Elisa and Carmina had nothing to do with Rosendo and Stef. (Well, he’s half right.) The Widow is Whack (see Friday's recap for meaning). He tells her she is a liar and a hypocrite.
Augusto blows my mind: He tells Fina that they (she and he) are the ones to blame for Rosendo and Stef running away. Furthermore, Fina had better tell Gabino to stay away from his family, because the next time it will be Augusto who tries to kill him and he won’t fail.
Lolita finds Elisa waiting on the school steps. Elisa want to know why Lolita is crying. Lolita says even though she’s not Elisa’s real mother she feels like Elisa is her own daughter. They hug and say how much they love each other, awwww.
Gabino is on a roll today. Now he’s getting into it with Mara who has questioned why Carmina showed up. He tells her to remember that he gives the orders around here. Mara says what she remembers is he’s not her boss, rather he is an opportunist who sucks up to Fina. Gab says he can get her fired like that and if he wants to he can get Fina to marry him because all women become very stupid around him. He obviously didn’t get the memo about the third party listener because Fina pops up and tells him HE is the estupido. What would she ever see in a man like him? Long story short, she fires his butt and makes Mara’s day.
He follows her begging for his job on his knees. She sneers that his lack of dignity is incredible. She relents and says she’ll allow him to stay on one condition. She’ll talk to him about it at the hacienda. She leaves and the entire factory bursts out in laughter at the Belt Buckle Buffoon. Braulio calms everyone down.
Fina blows my mind: At the Hacienda de Haranguo Gab whines that Mara provoked him. Fina says she knows exactly who he is. On the subject of Antonia he is to say that nothing happened between them because she’ll not allow the whole pueblo to gossip about her.
Fina tells Gabino she won’t force him to marry Antonia because Antonia doesn’t deserve a boor (i.e. buffoon) like him for a husband. But if he wants to continue working for the hacienda he has to respect Tonia. One word about Antonia and he’s fired.
One more point of business, did Gab tell Augusto that someone close to him was the real father of Carmina’s brat? Augusto thinks it is Rosendo and blames Fina. Gab says he meant the father is one of Rosendo’s employees, that’s it. Gab admits he’s a dumba$$ for even mentioning such a thing to Augusto. She agrees and wishes that the entire family would all just leave La Ermita. He says her wish is his command. With that she forces a wee smile through the botox mask.
It is night and a mystery person, hunky build, belt buckle gleaming in the moonlight, splashes fuel around a storage building. He lights a match, gasp! It’s Gabino! He licks his lips as the flames shoot high around the building and roast the habanero plants.
Ramona, who has a knack for being in the wrong place at the right time, and Paloma are out for a nighttime burro ride and see the Castañon facility explode into a ball of fire.
Augusto and his staff inspect the carnage and wonder how they will save their livelihoods. Lucio joins him, the whole pueblo heard from Ramona about the fire. Augusto says they lost everything. I think he says something about the fire being a sign it’s time to cut off all memories of Stef. Good luck with that dude, since you are the father of her DAUGHTER and are married to her SISTER.
Braulio is at Casa Castañon trying to explain things to Lolita. He accuses her of looking for reasons to not marry him. She says this wasn’t the first time Antonia distracted him, and that’s why she doesn’t want to marry him. She lies that this is the truth.
Augusto takes all the pictures that have Stef in them, even the ones from Elisa’s room, and burns them while Elisa watches. Such a cruel, cruel man. She holds her amulet, kisses it and recalls times with Damian. She removes it but then quickly puts it back on. “You’ll always be my best friend”, she says. More past kiddie scenes swimming in the cenote. Children Elisa, Gael and Paloma jump in, grownup Paloma, Gael and Elisa emerge. Elisa still wears her amulet and we get an eyeful of her shapely gams.

El Talismán #39 Mon 3/26/12 Drunk as a skunk and dumb as a...well no animal is as dumb as Pedro
Pigorio instructs Doris to divorce Antonio and she’s not on board with the idea. He wants Antonio out of his way and doesn’t care what Doris thinks. They discuss this for several scenes. She says she’s crazy sick for Tony, Pig looks unhappy at this, why did she sleep with the pig? Cuz she felt like it and the pig intrigues her.
Doris asks if she can still live at El Alcatrash after the divorce? Pig sez yep. She says in that case it would probably be best if they got married. Pig gulps and says she’s crazy. “But it would really pith off Tony,” she points out. Hmmm...
Fab and Flo discuss whether or not mom will accept Claudio. Flo is afraid her family will kill him. She figures out Fab blabbed to mom. Fab thinks mom will help Flo. Flo wonders if mom is manipulating them due to the divorce. Flo admits she still thinks of Jose.
Pedro and Camila have a loud public fight about Pedro winning the ranch from Camila’s father. Tony is happy until Pedro calls him a dog. Then all three of them start yelling at each other. Why isn’t the owner of this cafe kicking them out? Never mind, Pedro leaves.
Outside, LooKrazy feigns concern and happily watches while Pedro pounds his truck. She suggests he help her look for her apartment. “You know what?” he says, as if his pea brain could possibly have an original thought, “Why don’t you come back to El Tal?” Aaaargh!!! Loo pretends to resist, Pedro insists, yada yada yada. Aunt Patty is NOT going to be happy.
Panchito tells Tracy he wants more out of life than to be a peon. She’s worried something bad might happen to him. He smiles because now he knows she likes him. Then he tries to snuggle up to her in the Pig Pen and says she’ll one day be Mrs. Negrete, boss of the ranch.
Claudio and Gabriel discuss if Camila is trustworthy or not, but Claudio won’t tell Gab why he wonders. Sarita figures LooKrazy has something to do with this. The gossipy maid interrupts to tell them P and C broke up and now P and L are novios.
Camila tells Tony she has nowhere to go so. Then she changes her mind and says she’ll go to El Tal to finish her work. The background music is very suspenseful for some reason. Both she and Pedro swear to forget the other.
Fab calls Armani to tell him she’s at the hotel. He’ll be right down because he doesn’t know Flo is with her. He waves to Fab then sees Flo and sprints off like a bunny, LOL! Say what you want about the dope, he can run fast. (Did you see his face? Priceless!) Fab says he must have a stomach ache so she goes looking for him.
Armani is fast but Fab is faster; she catches up to him and she’s wearing high heels. Oh gosh he’s so sick, he says. “But before I poop, you’re the most beautiful girl in the world.” He goes to his room and berates himself in the mirror. He decides he needs to confront her, he has no other option. But then he tells her he’ll talk to her later. When she wants to quickly introduce him to his sis he pretends he has stomach cramps again. So much for mature confrontation.
Loo doesn’t waste any time in boozing and floozing with Pedro. Loo tells the Tequila bottle that it will perform miracles tonight. This will likely be helped by the fact that Pedro just finished off the whiskey. Loo suggests he marry her so as to forget Camila. He gets drunker and she keeps kissing him and suggesting they do all sorts of things for him to forget Camila. I should have counted the shots she keeps feeding him. Soon he is falling down drunk but still blabbing he loves Camila.
Hey, Genoveva sighting. She sees Camila back at El Tal and runs up to hear that Pedro is driving Cami crazy. Cami updates Geno on everything we have already seen and says he can go to hell. She tells her in front of the house. She tells her again in their room.
Tony is back at the hotel with the healthy, though maligned, call girl. She has the Camila wig, he says this time try harder so he’s convinced it really is Camila in bed. He gives her instructions. Crazy creepy much?
Aunt Patty finds Loo and Pedro swaying, burping and crawling up the stairs. Loo updates Tia that Pedro and Cami are kaput, Pedro and Loo are novios and soon she will be his wife. The expected conversation ensues. I can’t believe Tia allows Loo to follow Pedro to his room. She helps him to bed and makes out with his motionless form while he stares into space whining about Cami betraying him.
Doris and the Pig debate her upcoming divorce. Why won’t he marry her? He says divorce first then they’ll discuss it, for the time being they’ll remain lovers.
Pedro passes out and Loo tells nobody in particular that nothing is going to happen tonight but as soon as he’s no longer drunk he won’t have a moment alone.

Una Familia Con Suerte #177-178 Fri 3/23/12 Día de Locos
After Candy's breakfast, Nap tells Little Debbie that Candy's been too affectionate. Suspiciously so. He doesn't know where this sudden affection is coming from, but he doesn't like it.
Candy tells Pancho how she swapped the USB sticks. This one's full of evidence. (She shakes it, listening for an incriminating rattle.)
Ana meets with her new manager. Although Pina and Vice put him on Ana's case, he seems genuinely enthusiastic about representing her. He's ready to start arranging all kinds of promotional activities for Ana and the group.
Goya shows up in another outrageous outfit - she's all decked out in polyester fruit salad colors this time. Ana's new manager takes it much more graciously than her old one did, but after he leaves, Ana tells her to be more respectful.
At breakfast, Meli congratulates Fred on his upcoming marriage with Ana, now that his parents suddenly approve. Pina won't promise not to meddle in his life. Fred says he needs to go talk to Pancho to say the wedding is off for now. Pina doesn't have much time to enjoy her victory, because Fred says he can't marry Ana until he cuts the umbilical cord. Somehow, Pina feels that this is Pancho's fault.
Elena, a guest at the Stately Lopez Manor since the earthquake, is super-snotty with Chucha. She wants to talk to "the other one" (Goya) too, to complain about her laundry. (Elena insists on being treated like a member of the family, but no Lopez would ever talk to Chucha that way!) Tomás intervenes, apologizes for his sister's rudeness, and scolds Elena for being an ungrateful lazybones. She should go to school or something. Elena says she'd rather be dead than go to school or work at some mediocre job. (Be careful what you wish for, kid.)
Candy guilts Pancho into helping her. He reaches for the phone. She panics. She doesn't want him to involve anyone else. Wait, what? How does she think he can handle this all by himself?
Deb tells Nap that Candy is at Avon. He senses something is up. He calls Candy, who panics again. "It's Napoleón!" Pancho sticks his hand in his shirt. Nap tells her to come home for a surprise. "Something's definitely up," he tells Deb. "Candela is very nervous."
Pancho has connected the USB stick and is copying it to his computer. (I just deleted a long lecture about why you should never connect a criminal's USB stick to your employer's computer. Long story short, just don't ever do it.)
Elena is still bitching about how wretched her life is and how their parents left them with practically nothing and Pancho owes them. Tom says Pancho doesn't owe them a thing, yet he's never let them go without food and shelter and all the rest. There's no reason to envy all the things that Lupita has because they are not Pancho's children and they should be grateful that once again, they have a place to live and eat.
Elena doesn't take the lecture well, and now I am wondering if she is going to wind up dead in a ditch. I cannot imagine anything that would make this brat happy for any amount of time. Even if she got rich, soon she'd be envying someone richer. And she did kind of diss her parents just now. So... well, let's just hope that something turns her around. Or maybe she should get Violeta to adopt her. Maybe that would do it.
Pancho finishes copying the USB stick and gives it back to Candy. She assures him that Nap doesn't suspect a thing.
Ana calls Fred and tells him about her new manager Franco. "Congratulations," he says without much energy. After the call, Pina mischievously asks why he seems so pensive. He refuses to discuss it with her. This depresses her.
Rebeca interrupts Pancho, who's trying to figure out the gangster data. Not wanting to involve her in the mess, he doesn't tell her what's going on. She wants to show him a graph with a red line that depicts the worst-case scenario but also shows that even the bad outcomes are projected to be good for the company in the long run, but they don't know how that will be for the workers, psychologically. "The gynecological effect on the workers," Pancho repeats absently. Rebe can tell he's distracted. He asks if she knows anyone who can decipher a coded message.
Napoleon insists on seeing what's on the USB stick. Deb says it's encoded. He wants to see it with his own eyes. She installs some decryption software on a laptop and connects the USB stick. It's empty!
Pancho is mysteriously telling Rebeca that he can't involve her in "this" when Ana interrupts to ask if Franco's been there yet to introduce himself. Rebeca excuses herself. Pancho thanks her for showing him the gynecological projections.
Candy arrives at Nap's house. Deb empties her purse immediately and finds the USB stick. She confirms that the data is on it. Candy denies everything and says Pancho knows nothing, but Nap doesn't believe her. He has his goons drag her to the bedroom, begging for mercy.
Franco finally gets to Avon and meets with Pancho, who thinks he looks familiar. Franco flashes back to Vice and Pina asking him not to let on that they put him on Ana's case. He leaves to take a phone call. Pancho and Ana get all misty at the prospect of not seeing one another while she's working. She admits that she's not in such a hurry to get married now. Franco comes back and says boyfriends and this type of career don't mix. Then Pina comes in and gives Pancho a hard time about separating her from her son. Ana excuses herself, but notices Pina giving Franco a strange look. Franco excuses himself.
Rebe is daydreaming about Pancho in her car when she realizes that someone is tailing her. She makes a sudden, screeching turn, and two large vehicles trap her on a side street. She is whisked away in a van with Deb, and one of Nap's goons takes her car.
Outside Pancho's office, Ana asks Franco if he's met Pina before. He plays dumb. Pancho and Pina have a dumb argument about Fred wanting to cut his umbilical cord.
Pina is still ranting and raving with Pancho about how wrong it is for the social classes to mix. She won't allow him to put ideas in Fred's head.
Fred rehashes the Ana situation with Pepe and asks for advice. Pepe reminds Fred of how poorly it turned out when he and Moni tried to live together and they just can't live together. At least not now.
Enzo calls Moni in France. (The green pencils on his desk have been infested by some horrible fungus that's turned half of them yellow!!) Supposedly Violeta is doing well, but she's still not in the clinic yet. That's still being arranged. (Hmmm.) Meanwhile, Mom spends a lot of time shopping.
Deb tells Nap that Rebeca's stashed away at a safehouse.
Chela tells Enzo she's worried about Candy. She's not answering her phone. They go to see Pancho and he shows them the garbled data on the USB stick. NOW they decide it's a good idea to call the authorities. Enzo calls a lawyer, but he's out to lunch. The nerve of some people!
One of Nap's henchmen takes a cell phone video of Rebeca all tied up and gagged.
Ana meets with Fred, who's still bummed out that she'll be touring. He can't go with her, because he has classes. (Guess he should have gone to UCLA after all.) But they still love each other.
Chela is still trying to get Candy on the phone and Enzo is working on Pancho's computer when Nap, Deb, and entourage show up. "Menso Rinaldi," Nap greets Enzo. Enzo surreptitiously presses a key on Pancho's keyboard (it looks to be in the neighborhood of the semicolon or L) that causes the screen to go blank. Phew! Nap tells Chela not to worry about Candy; she's getting a massage. He wants to speak with Pancho. Chela and Enzo clear out of there as fast as they can.
Nap shows Pancho the video on his cell phone. "Ah, Rebe gagged," Pancho observes dreamily. (Perv.) Then he realizes she's in serious trouble!
Part Two: The Body Count Rises
Pancho is flipping out in his office. Nap warns him with Rebeca's safety and also threatens to shoot him in the head (using an Una Familia con Suerte pillow as a silencer? good luck with that) just in case.
It turns out Enzo emailed the files to his own computer. Chela just wants to find Candy.
I think Pancho fainted. Now Nap is poking the USB stick all over Pancho's face. Ooh, very menacing.
Vice has invited Karina to meet with him at the office. He asks her to keep this confidential. He's always wanted to have a daughter. After he and Pina had Fred, they had some problems and got busy with work and stuff, and then they got Abejita, but... but Vice wants to adopt Karina.
Karina, who has two living (if not particularly attentive) parents already, does not find this request at all strange or suspicious. She eagerly accepts. "I promise I will love you like my own daughter." "And I will love and respect you like my own father."
Pancho admits to copying the USB stick. After some more warnings about Rebeca's life, Nap says he'll give Pancho the benefit of the doubt and will bring back his computer in two hours. And if he calls the authorities, Rebeca will die. Nap also recommends that Pancho do something about the company's security. "You see that anyone with a gun can come right into your office." Pancho frets.
Vice explains that with Ana relaunching her career, Fred's going to be alone. Karina understands her mission and squeals with delight. This would all seem so much less weird if he hadn't just spoken of "adopting" her.
Enzo and Chela go to Nap's house, where the goons say Candy is "indisposed." Chela loudly tells Enzo they should go to the police.
On the ride home, Deb asks Nap what will happen to Rebeca. He says she's going to die.
Rebeca sobs in the dark safehouse.
Pancho frets about Rebeca. (Looks like his pencils have been attacked by the yellow fungus, too.) He is soon joined by Enzo and Chela. He tells them the bad guys got Rebe. Chela nearly faints.
Candy frets in the bedroom. Nap tells her to pack her things. They can't stay here.
Pancho gets a text telling him where to find Rebeca. He doesn't say who it's from. Enzo is worried it might be a trap. Chela wants to call the police. Pancho thinks they'll kill Rebe if the police show up. Pancho has an idea.
Nap calls someone and tells him to kill Rebeca in one hour. (Why the delay, I don't know.) Deb whips out her gun and points it at Napoleon. She's with the police and he's under arrest!
She has all the guys drop their guns and kick them over to her. Then she tells Nap to call his guy at the safehouse and rescind the order to kill Rebeca. Nap stalls. Candy comes out of the bedroom and asks what's going on. Deb tells Candy to stay behind her and starts calling for backup. Then Toshiro, #1 goon, comes down the hallway with Candy's bags and shoots Deb from behind. He only gets her in the shoulder, but as she struggles to her feet, he pulls out a knife and slashes her throat so fast I have to replay in slow motion to see it. Except that her throat looks fine when they pick her up off the carpet later and there isn't nearly as much blood as you would expect from a person who's been slashed. But never mind.
Candy runs away. Nap congratulates Toshiro on his fine work and sends him to retrieve Candy. He has another guy prepare the helicopter, and sends a third guy to the airport to get the plane ready. He gives a respectful parting speech to Deborah and toasts her with his best cognac.
Frida brings her muscle car to the garage. I'm sorry I don't know what kind of car it is, but it's the kind I like to look at. She's wearing a lime-green tank top that makes the guys' eyes pop. She asks Pepe if he thinks he could beat her with Champi. She offers him a rare opportunity to drive it. He hops in before she changes her mind.
Candy is on the run. She really needs a sports bra. Toshiro pursues. He is running around on a busy street in broad daylight with a gun in full view. She easily eludes him by hiding behind a van. Toshiro may be a sharpshooter, but he's not very good at looking for things.
The helicopter is ready. Nap calls Toshiro. "Where the hell is Candy?" An excited police car rolls by. Toshiro is looking uncharacteristically worried.
The safehouse goon goes into the darkened room with a gun. He says she's very pretty, and he could have a feast with her, but orders are orders and he won't disobey.
He lifts his gun. She whimpers. Nap shows up in his hat and sunglasses. He says he's changed is mind, and Rebe will have to disappear some other way. He'll take her with. He sounds like Grover, the Muppet, and his build looks bulkier than I remember. But Rebeca and the goon and the guard don't seem to notice. Nap slaps the guard a few times for no reason. The guard doesn't resist.
Pepe and Frida speed down a country road. Vroom. They aren't wearing seatbelts. She's sitting too close to him. Back off, chickie!
Nap is outside with Rebe. His hair is too blue. His hat is too green. Rebeca struggles with him. She sees La Burra and panics. What are they doing to Pancho? Nap peels off a mask, revealing himself to be... Pancho! (Hmm, did I miss a scene where Napoleon allowed them to take a cast of his face and create a rubber mask?) She's glad to see him!
Nap's men want him to leave the house. He tells them he won't go without his Candy. He loves her and he can't live without her. He'll wait.
His phone rings. What an amazing coincidence - it's the same crappy phone (and ringtone) that all the Avon employees have. It's Toshiro, advising Nap to take the helicopter and flee because the house is surrounded by police. Nap tells him to find Candy and kill her. Wow, moody.
But it's too late. Agents rush into the house and disarm Nap's men. One of them asks for Deb. Nap says she's in a better place. The agent says he'll make sure Nap never leaves prison for the rest of his life. He checks Deb's phone and sees that she sent Pancho a message telling him where to find Rebeca. (Sure, she'd totally send an untrained civilian on a mission like that.) "No me toques," Nap protests as he is cuffed and marched out.
Rebeca is grateful and gives Pancho a kiss. Pancho says he'd give up his life for her. Another kiss, and this time it looks serious. Chela finally reminds them that they still need to find Candy.
They go back to Nap's and see Deb being wheeled out on a stretcher. The agent explains that she was working undercover for them.
Meanwhile, Candy arrives safely at the Lopez home. On the phone, Panch tells Lupita it's been a día de locos. Pancho and Candy tell the Napoleon/Déborah story to the family over dinner.
Pepe and Frida work into the evening. She wants to race him. He wants to set something up with a track; he tells her it's not good to race in the streets. He notes that her car is worth a lot of money, so why does she live in a crummy neighborhood and ride the bus? It's because her grandfather gave her that car and he was everything to her. Her mother abandoned her, and her grampy raised her, and he told her to fix up the car and care for it as if it were a child. It's as valuable to her as her grandfather.
So now Candy is crying at home. Ana tries to cheer her up with news of her new manager and revived career. Lupita tries to cheer her up with a somewhat more on-topic reminder that Candy can now divorce Nap. Candy says she's just still recovering from the tension. She begins to tell the rest of the story - the USB drive, the files, etc.
Vice is thinking about Candy. Pina finds him drinking in the dark and invites him to bed. He apologizes to her for his bad behavior.
Rebeca tells Pancho that when that guy put his gun to her head, she thought she was going to die, and her life flashed before her eyes. But most of all, she thought of Pancho and all the mistakes they'd made and all the time they'd wasted. She asks for his forgiveness. He asks for her forgiveness. He promises never to distrust her again. They exchange "te amo"s and kisses.
Candy is still crying. The worst of it, she says, is that she lost Vicente, the first man she ever loved sincerely. (That's the worst of it? The dead agent wasn't worse?) Chela tries to cheer her up by telling her she's not a second-table meal. Candy excuses his reconciliation with Pina because she was marrying Napoleon. She still loves Vice. Chela, Lupita, and Ana are aghast. They try to persuade her to restart her life. Surely a thousand other guys are dying to be with her. Single guys who aren't mobsters. This seems to cheer Candy.
Meanwhile, Vice flatters his wife and asks her again to someday forgive him. She's not sure what he's even talking about. She's already forgiven him!
Frida asks Pepe about Mónica. He hasn't spoken to her today. It's about 5am where she is right now, and why does Frida ask? She's just making conversation. He tells her he and Moni moved in together and it didn't go well and a bunch of things happened. Frida scoffs; no doubt Frenchy went back to her parents. She tells Pepe she'd like to see the apartment for herself, just to see why it wasn't good enough for Frenchy. He agrees - tomorrow they can have dinner or something. She thought-bubbles to herself that she likes Pepe more every day, and what's Frenchy got that Frida doesn't?
Sneaky feet prowl up to Napoleon's cell. Nap meets the faceless man and takes something from him that he immediately pops into his mouth. The other man walks away and we hear him and the approaching guard greet one another. The guard comes to Nap's cell and gloats that Nap got his freedom last time, but now even God can't save him.
The guard watches as Nap sits down and mimes pouring himself a drink. He gulps it down. He then pours himself a second imaginary glassful, but hurriedly puts it aside before doubling over in agony. The guard calls a doctor, who arrives in record time along with the warden. Nap's dead! The warden looks surprised.
It's just as well. I bet they're not very nice to mimes in prison.
Next time:
Enzo asks Chela to marry him. Vice asks Candy for a date. And despite being dead, Napoleon continues to be a nuisance.
