HERIDAS DE AMOR - Monday, 11/20/06

Nuria is sweeping around the couch and finds Lizania’s necklace, figures it is finders-keepers and puts it on. Cesar is leaving and tells her not to make noise because Fabricio is back and is resting in the guestroom. He leaves and Fabricio comes out of the guestroom and asks if Cesar had her come over to take care of him. She confesses then that they have gotten married. She asks if Fabricio has told his wife yet and he says no, that Cesar says she needs time because right now she wouldn’t be able to handle the news of his return. She wonders if he saw the people who did this to him but he says he doesn’t know anyone and didn’t see anything. (He is obviously petrified of El Guapo and Bertha.)

Miranda and Rebeca are talking in Rebeca’s living room when Cesar slithers in like the snake that he is and pretends that Fabricio is still in the hands of his kidnappers. He tells his mother to give him all her jewelry and any cash she has around to pay Fabricio’s ransom off since they want a million pesos or they will kill him. Miranda says she’ll go with him but Cesar-the-Sleezer says he must go alone to rescue Fabricio. Rebeca comes in with her family heirlooms and cash and throws it into a bag while Cesar turns to Miranda and says, very dramatically, that he doesn’t know if he’ll come back alive so not to get upset for what he is about to do. He grabs her and plants a big lascivious smooch on her mouth (gagging here), then takes the sack of jewels and cash and exits, stage right, through the doorway. Rebeca, ditzy and tactless as ever, tells Miranda that nobody could love her like her boy, Cesar, so if ever she should leave Alejandro she has to give Cesar an opportunity. Miranda stands there practically wiping her mouth off, but not quite, and assures Rebeca that it will never happen. It is plain though, that Miranda is ......impactada from all Cesar’s heroics.

Juan is telling his father and Amparo about his fight with Renata the night before and his problems with Bertha’s constant interfering in their marriage. He swears that he will fight to keep Renata and will not let Bertha hook him in the way she does the everyone else.

At the hospital, Gonzalo tells Florencia and Fernanda that the past is unimportant. She is his daughter and nothing will ever change that. Then he tells Fernanda and her that he’s going back to the cocoa plantation and when he returns from there everything will be explained away. He gives Fernanda a long meaningful (?) stare and walks out.

At the same time Cesar returns to the apartment with his bag of his mother's loudly jangling heirlooms, valuables and cash. He orders Nuria to put it in the closet while he and his brother are seated on the couch. He and Fabricio talk then and he asks if they did anything to him. Fabricio sheepishly lies and says they did absolutely nothing to him. He asks Cesar who paid the ransom and how much it was, and how was it raised.

Cesar lies that it was from both his mother and himself. Fabricio thanks him and says he someday will somehow repay him. Cesar says he definitely will repay him and he will do it by telling Florencia to sign him over "The Manglars". Fab objects saying Alejandro gave it to her, but Cesar says he bought it from him through deception.

Gonzalo has called Alejandro at the office to tell him to contact everybody in the family, including Cesar and Bertha. Luis Alberto, Luciano and Vicente are there with Alejandro. They are all to come to the house but at different times throughout the evening and Luis Alberto is to get Cesar to call him. Luis Alberto leaves to get hold of Cesar and Vicente then lets the other two men know that Gonzalo kept him out of the loop regarding Cesar’s activities with the Investment House over in London. Luciano figures it was to protect Vicente from Cesar. Vicente tells them what he knows, that Gonzalo found the best computer systems analyst to hack into the bank's computers to determine what happened to the customers’ accounts and how the bank there had combined the funds and so on.

Miranda later comes to visit and lets Florencia know that Cesar paid the ransom. Alejandro comes a bit later and finds out from her also that Cesarwas going alone to rescue his brother with the ransom. He tells Florencia that Daira went back to Italy to go on a personal retreat and both women are told about Gonzalo’s meeting with the family that evening. Miranda is to bring Renata and Fernanda with her.

Gonzalo calls Bertha and she gets agitated when he demands she come to the meeting at the time he’s set for her. He tells her that he knows everything now and hangs up. Bertha cries to the dog and says she’ll give Gonzalo the whatever. She's wondering just what and how much he really does know.

Gonzalo goes back to the plantation house and remembers how things happened that night. Green memories: He knocked Fernanda unconscious and she fell down. He fights with Alfredo then and the gun shoots up into the ceiling. He didn’t shoot, let alone kill, Alfredo so when and where did Bertha enter and where did that shot in the back that Alejandro’s father told him about come from?

He works it back and remembers that Tomasa said to him and Bertha the night she died, “She also shot. She also shot.” He realizes Tomasa meant Bertha and remembers Bertha hid Alfredo’s back and immediately began to accuse him of murdering Alfredo. He also realizes that Bertha took Tomasa’s granddaughter away to keep Tomasa from ever telling anybody the truth. So then he asks himself who was it she was really trying to kill that night.

Renata and Juan argue over her not being able to come to Amparo’s birthday party, but Renata says she simply cannot be there because of this important family meeting at the house that evening. She leaves him standing in there alone in the hallway of the Jimenez house and it really hurts him. (It is because of those large puppy-dog eyes of his.)

Alejandro gets upset with Gonzalo while talking on his cell because Gonz refuses to allow Alejandro or Vicente to handle certain financial transactions a certain way. He and Miranda fight about her “perfect father” and he leaves.

Fabricio confirms with his mother how much she gave for his ransom and that the kidnappers (whom he secretly knows to be Bertha and El Guapo) had demanded a million pesos.

Luis Alberto has warned Cesar that something big is about to happen at that meeting.

Fabricio shows up finally at the hospital and Miranda gives Cesar a squeeze and a smile. When Florencia and Fabricio are alone he tells her he never wants to talk about the incident again and he promises to keep her and the baby safe. (I was wondering from the look in his eyes if he was planning to wait until the perfect time to take vengeance or if he is going to remain the silly, cowardly jerk he was in the kidnappers’ shack.)

Gonzalo gets back to the city house that night and is surprised to see Bertha sitting on the couch a few hours earlier than he’d told her to arrive. She says no way was she going to let him boss her around. She was going to come when she wanted to and not vice versa. Charo walks by and hears the argument. She hides behind the door to the living room and she continues to listen.

Bertha tricks him into telling her what it was that was so important. He gets on his high-horse with her thinking he finally has the upper hand because he has figured it all out. (Darn, Gonz. You never did learn anything from all of this!) He tells her he’s going to expose her tonight in front of everybody. (Stupid thing to do with Bertha). She whips out a gun and points it at him. (Now why would anybody let their guard down around Bertha, after figuring this all out and knowing how dangerous this murdering witch could be? I could see this coming a mile away, but he is clueless.)

She tells him it is her version of the truth that counts. “Shoot me, then!” (Wasted breath here.) Gonz tells Bertha he’s figured out exactly what happened that night with the gun and that Tomasa knew it too, so it must have been Bertha who threw her down the stairs. Bertha says no, that it was Lucas who chased after Tomasa, though of course, it was at her command. Bertha confesses to him that she had wanted to kill Fernanda first and then him. He asks her why she destroyed their lives. Bertha replies that Fernanda had stolen everyone that she loved away from her. Yes, she wrote the anonymous letters, although Fernanda did love Gonzalo. It was she who let Alfredo Luque into the main house that night. She couldn’t kill Fernanda so she determined to take away everything that meant something to her and of course her "dear Miranda, pretty Miranda".

He asks about Florencia. "Oh, the condition was found in time, but well, too bad she never took her medication. It was all placebos." She continues aiming the pistol at him as El Guapo has positioned himself outside the glass doors, just behind Gonzalo. He is aiming a second gun at Gonzalo’s back. (Now that was something I didn't expect!) Just then Cesar arrives and makes a snide aside about Bertha's timing. He turns his face toward Gonzalo and admits he did take all his money and smirks that he should be certain Cesar will have both of his daughters, Renata and Miranda for his own, soon, too. Gonzalo rushes furiously toward Cesar in an attempt to grab him, but El Guapo fires the gun, shooting Gonzalo in the back.

Alejandro is coming up the walkway in the dark at that moment and hears the gunshot and the breaking glass. He starts yelling for Gonzalo and running towards the house. El Guapo runs in and tells Bertha and Cesar that he will handle Alejandro and take care of things. They tell him they’ll just blame Alejandro and they run to hide off somewhere in the house.

Alejandro sees Gonzalo lying motionless on the floor and El Guapo then comes out of nowhere and the two of them fight and wrestle for the gun. Alejandro gets the gun away from El Guapo and shoots him in the shoulder as he is running towards the kitchen. El Guapo drops a bloody handkerchief and grabs at Charo, yelling at her to show him a way out to escape.

Alejandro drops down, moaning over Gonzalo, when Cesar and Bertha re-enter the room. Fernanda, Miranda and Renata are coming in at the same time and Alejandro points at Cesar and blames him. Miranda runs over to Alejandro as Bertha and Cesar claim it was him. Alejandro yells at Miranda, “You have to believe me, it wasn’t me! I didn’t do it!” Miranda grabs him and says, “ I know, I believe you, Alejandro." She looks accusingly over at her aunt and says, “Bertha!” Alejandro answers back that it wasn’t Bertha, but that man, El Guapo. Fernanda drops down and examines Gonzalo as the others are crying and moaning over his body. (This is one big Greek tragedy being played out here, except that it is Mexico and everyone is speaking Spanish.) Wait, though! Fernanda says he is still alive! Gonzalo moves his head a tad. (Will he mouth anything to his sobbing daughters or wife? No.)

Gonzalo hitches a last breath and dies. Fernanda and their two daughters begin to sob inconsolably. Cesar and Bertha look at one another with just the hint of an evil smile on their faces, but mask it so subtly. They turn to each other with a shared gaze of amazement, shock and pity --and triumph. (This is why Diana and Sergio get the big bucks, because they have managed to capture the essence of these two characters’ malicious cunning and connivance in a single glance.) Yep, it looks as if Bertha and her younger protégé, Cesar-the-Sleezer, will once again skate and literally get away with murder.

Back in the neighborhood, the birthday party is about to begin. Carola and Erica have decorated. Carola says she’s glad Renata won’t be around. Nobody can relax whenever she’s in the room. Erica defends Renata as her friend and says Carola just needs to get to know her better. Ramon brings Amparo inside a dark apartment and everyone shouts “Surprise!” Juan gives her a book on pastry and confection making and then the Mariachis arrive.

La Fea Más Bella #149 11/20/06

  • We start with the standoff between Fern and Lety - she promises to cook the books for the big meeting but insists he comply with his promise to break his engagement. Fern tells her he's in love with her, and she says, "Me too," but after he leaves she furiously dusts off her chair and phone to eradicate his presence. He broods in the next room: "I'd really love to do as I promised."
  • Alicia had asked Tomas to call her back while Ariel was in the vicinity and her voice drips with honey as she enthuses loudly for all to hear: "Oh, it was all so wonderful, the music, the car, Le Noir - where are you, sweetie?" "In my office [that is, he's huddled over his laptop in the corner of Lety's kitchen]." "Oh, I thought you'd be out playing golf."

We later hear Alicia tell her father: "He's a horror, but he can help with my financial problems."

She calls Tomas yet again, "apologizing" for having burdened him with her financial worries. He says he'll be her Department of Solutions. She says she's feeling remorse about Lety. Tomas, the squid: "If I don't feel remorse, you certainly needn't." Alicia calls him a bonbon and suggests they go out again. Ariel is impressed.

After they hang up, Tomas dances around the kitchen with his little laminated picture of Alicia, but wonders where he'll get the money for another luxury-filled date.

Ariel asks Alicia, again, for a full length picture - wear black, it's sexy - he'll pass it along to his office mates. She says she doesn't need them, her life is "stabilizing." He says: "You're so ingenuous, don't you realize you will end up the same, poor, struggling for survival ... in about two days ..."
  • Several times we are reminded that Ariel is going to pick up Fern's parents at the airport the next morning - they are coming for the big meeting - and Humberto (Fern's dad) is worried about that bottom line (the one Lety is supposed to be massaging) - and Ariel intends to withdraw his money from the business.

Omar king of repetition reminds us: Conceptos doesn't have the money because it's in hock to Filmo Imagen. He and Fern keep asking each other what to do. "Why don't you ask your guru lover, Leticia?"

Fern says he actually does want to cancel his wedding. Omar nixes the idea. They go out to lunch.
  • Ariel asks Marcia what she's found out about Lety's boyfriend - she says, "I found out he works at Filmo Imagen, Fern says it's a good company." Ariel will investigate further.
  • Luciano and friend, arriving for the Sport Wind ad presentation, greet Ariel, who decides to stay and watch the show.

Luigi is asleep - he took too much valerian for his nerves, so Lola has to carry him out to the presentation. The commercial they spent so much money and time on in Munich is lousy but the clients, luckily, think it's great. The phone rings - Conceptos won the Golden Lion in Cannes! General rejoicing! (Except Ariel's eyes get slitty with annoyance.) The adrenaline wakes Luigi up, all are jumping up and down. Luciano congratulates all and says he loves the commercial; on the way out he tells Alicia she's sexy.
  • Fernando scurries right off to Lety's office and picks her up in the air, "We won! We won!" He doesn't seem to notice how sad she looks, what's the matter with him?

As he kisses Lety, Marcia storms into the tiny office. He's pinned between the two of them. It's awkward.

He tells Marcia it's natural to celebrate with the employees. "You went straight to Lety!" Marcia storms out. He rushes back into Lety's office but she's still sad. [Lety was monosyllabic and frozen-faced through this whole episode.]
  • Luigi pulls Alicia and Marcia out of the meeting and says this is the perfect time for the final fitting of the wedding dress. Marcia demurs, she has 1000 things to do. Luigi says this the last and only time he has - after this, he'll have to be choreographing for the dancers and sewing their clothes. As if to prove his point, the dancers arrive.
  • Marcia slyly asks Fern about Mario Rivera at "Le Maison" the previous night and lets him get all wrapped up in his lies before saying: "Our Spanish friend told me! You were there with Lety! And Lety was very affectionate! You're lying to me!" "No, I don't lie." (In the next room, eavesdropping, Lety says - "You lie about everything.") "Don't insinuate I'm jealous! It's ok if Lety is at your business meetings, but it's not ok for her to go where you and I go, where all our friends are, you have to put her in her place!"

He says, "I didn't do anything. Do you really want to be fighting like cats and dogs when my parents are coming tomorrow? I can imagine the dark panorama your brother has painted for them!" They talk about Ariel, then she changes the subject and shows him the precious wedding invitations. He won't look at them and shoves them back in her arms.

So Marcia marches into Lety's office and says, "please take care of these invitations to **MY** wedding." Fern: "No, she's very busy working on numbers for the meeting." "No, it's no problem, Doña Marcia." Marcia leaves, triumphant. Fern: "Lety, you don't have to do it, I can imagine how you're feeling." Lety's only feisty retort of the evening: "You don't have the slightest idea how I'm feeling." She gives the job to Simon, who notices he and Paula Maria have not been invited, and neither have the cuartel, and Lety says she has no intention of going.
  • Tomas tells Lety's dad he's doing very well with his investment in a trout farm. Dad says, it'll go bust like the investment in Australian bushes, he'll lose his shirt. He calls Tomas a trout.
  • The cuartel calls Le Noir and finds out Alicia was actually there the night before - with Tomas Mora! So, fortified with some of the tequila they keep hidden in the bathroom, they crowd into Lety's little office and tell her. Lety doesn't look very interested.

Mundo de Fieras: 11/20/06 This close to a full fledged Greek Tragedy

This was a pretty action free episode, just endless yammering...except for the uncomfortable closeness of said family members & no I'm not talking about Pauli & JC.

We open this evening with Demian vowing again that he will never allow the marriage of Paulina and JC. Never do you hear me Never....

Next day...Oh Gawd there we are in the office with JC & Paulina. They are so cute, I want Mattel to do a line of them...they are nauseating cute, like STFU cute. They kiss, they hold hands, they play kissy face thru the little room divider, wouldn't you just love to work with this living Hallmark couple...The conversation is soooo lame,
JC, "I love you"
P, "I love you"
JC, "I love you more"
P, "No I love you more"

Now let's go on over to Gabe's apartment, where Joselyn is sitting on the couch with lil Lui..she is talking that cloying suffocating mamita stuff to the kid, while wearing a rather low-cut hot red dress, she has the kid's head crammed down on her bust, while she is going on and on about how nobody loves him like Mommy. Yep, this is all shades of uncomfortable to watch, with our young budding Opedius.

Gabe storms into Demian's office, basically accusing Demian of blowing up "Mother Teresa Acres", good affordable housing for the poor. Demian is all like "Moi"? "I no not of what you speak." Gabe is all "Curses" and leaves, Demian laughs his usual maniacal laugh. Yep, Gabe is foiled again.

Rog knows that Paulina is adopted and he tries to convince his father, Gabe, to give him his God given right to the business. (I think Gabe has been watching LFMB and believes putting his AssHat heir in charge might not be a sound business decision). Gabe explains that the kids, plus Pedro will all get the company equally...this I believe even includes a share for JC....so the pie has just been divided up between, Pauli, Rog, Lui, Pedro & possibly JC....You can just look at Rog and realize he isn't about sharing; well except for making his wife dance on a pole to pay off gambling debts.

Karen is playing middleman between, Rog & Tiberto; figuratively not literally, though I sure that wouldn't be much of a stretch. Some kind of business will be set up to free Tiberto from Demian and Rog from his family.

Karen meets with Tiberto, who is really el creepo in this scene she is talking about coming up with the dinero, she is wearing pink thigh high fishnets and a really short dress, Tiberto, her primo, is like coming unglued literally, "But the walls were shaking, The earth was quaking, My mind was aching"....it was way creepy...yet another uncomfortable family encountar.

Meanwhile, Rog gets a small box outta a safe in the Big House, he carries a small like jewelry box out in the hall and drops it on the floor, he is spied upon by Shaggy doo, I mean Pedro...
Hmmmmm thought bubbles.

Joselyn is back at the Big House and she is fixing to go out and spread more chaos, when her whiskey drinking, cigarette smokin papi stops her. "Oh by the way MA is your sister, soooos hows bout you two gals try and get along", Clemente says. Joselyn snappy retort “No No I hate her, Oh yeah I hate you too." Joselyn runs off out the door. Damn, nothing is gonna right today, Clemente sucks that cigarette down to ashes in like one puff and literally licks the inside of that pocket flask.**
Clemente has that unhealthy blue caste to his skin...Hmmmm perhaps he is from the Latino side of the Smurf family***

Joselyn goes crying to Miriam about MA being her sister....EeeeGads Calm down...MA isn't your sister cause Clemente isn't your Pa, Frederico is your papi. *****Geez what the hell? She is seriously psychotic and her beloved family members are dropping ACME anvils on her like she is Wiley Coyote***** Joselyn does not really seem to upset by the news, well there goes 40 years of bonding, Miriam says keep up the ruse so we can get the ol man's dinero when he bites the big one, which I think they have circled in their dayplanners.

Karen stops by to see Pauli and JC at work....she invites them to lunch. They just seriously have to be the most annoying couple evah. They go to eat and Karen excuses herself from the table, Romeo & Juliet are drinking wine, while yammering on & on & on about their great love....the waiter guy comes up and basically says, "Dude so this is your new ol lady, what happened to the one you used to hang with?" "Que, Soy innocente", exclaims JC...Paulina is all upset...OH good another break-up, Karen is watching thru a potted plant. Karen finally comes over to the table and joins them, thinking I guess she will comfort JC. Curses, now Karen is having a streak of Mal Suerte, Paulina giggles and embraces JC and the sun comes out and birds all chirping again and all is right with the world. Karen excuses herself and leaves on the way out she hands the waiter some dinero & a good hard smack across the face....I so want to organize the workers of Mexico...damn those people get smacked a lot. That or I just want to give up dreams of a Workers Utopia and buy a couple of em for myself and smack them around.

Over in Nacoville, the cabbies are trying to cheer David up as he is now an orphan. He laments the lost of his parents and the new 17 tios he now has. Hang on kid, grab on to MA cause chances are she is gonna be replacing BSC crazy wife number two and become Gabe's wife number 3...Sweet

MA has taken lil Lui to his leg therapy classes in a whirlpool hot-tub setting. There is a therapist on the side telling her how to manipulate Lui's legs. MA is also in the hot-tub wearing a rather conservative June Cleaver type bathing suit. Lui sadly at this point reminds me of "Flipper, when he did that "hhhhhaaaaaa" crap rising up outta the water with that big ole Dolphin grin," Very strange...

Gabe talks to Nic, he just wants to move the divorce along and start datin again..Ring Ring...Gabe gets a cell phone, phone call....miracle of miracles, Lui leg fixing doctor is back and can do the operation...Tommorrow...great news

Miram has more problems than just her BSC daughter and Lolita slut granddaughter, Otilia is opening up her own "House of Fashions", whoa stiff competition for Miriam. May I suggest a Happy Face and Always Low Prices, Always. Otilia even gets a self promoting tv spot like "HOY". Otilia hires (I forgot her name, but she is kinda Naco and is the mother of the Euro-Trash model both Miriam & Joselyn boinked).

Miriam and Ingrid (yes she is still alive) go the grand opening, Miriam is quite snotty and the EuroTrash model is there with some babe on his arm. His mother starts yelling his name...he jerks away from her telling her to quit bothering him. Gosh so many of these folks have issues.

Karen gets a check from Rog and promptly takes it over to Tiberto who is still sitting in the ole cafe. She gives him the check, but not before rubbing it all over her body first...Yes, it was as awful as sounds.

Leo, MA & David went to visit Lui I guess trying to socialize young Flipper, after good wholesome fun, the three return to NacoVille. MA is getting dinner ready when Elsa the Colonia Slut comes thru spewing vemon against MA and now young David as well. MA says she is gonna rent her own house in the barrio for her and David. (I thought she had a house?)

Back at the Big House....Gabe comes in to tell Joselyn that young Flipper is going to be operated on the next day. Jos thanks him and the conversation turns to the divorce. Joselyn says she doesn't want anything but lil Lui....Gabe has to give her lil Lui.

Fin....

This was a pretty boring episode...I hope Demian blows something up.

Heridas Friday Nov 17

After Alejandro finally falls asleep, Miranda talks to Luciano. His part in everything is mentioned, Miranda says he owes her an apology and he gives it, they decide to forget about it and move on. This is the first sensible conversation anyone has had in a long time. They decide to leave Al and Daira alone to sleep, he’s going to give her a ride. Miranda tells him to check out Pamela while he’s out, basically throwing Pamela at Luciano’s feet on her behalf. Luciano likes the idea. This is a very easy idea to like. Miranda says Pamela loves him. He says really? She says if you don’t believe me ask her yourself!

Amparito and Carola have a conversation about what strong independent women they are. Amparito then fills Carola in on all the recent drama in the San Llorente family. Then they talk about people from different classes and Carola thinks Juan and Renata will never last.

Miranda and Renata talk about how disconsolate Al and Daira are. This is the most boring episode ever. So far I don’t think I’ve even seen anyone standing up. Sitting, talking about how sad or dead people are. Booooooring. Charo comes in and says that Carola was there earlier looking for Renata, ooooops she forgot, Charo says it’s ok they spent hours in the kitchen talking. The excitement never stops around here. Renata goes to her room and has a Gollum/Smeagol conversation with herself in the mirror about whether to stick it out with Juan or not. As much as I liked watching Renata acclimate to Juan’s household, that’s how much I hate this whole extension of that story where she keeps thinking about leaving him to go back to the San Llorente house. He’s always at work anyway, just hang out there with Miranda. Jeez. And then, to top it all off, Juan arrives. She doesn’t need to leave him to spend time at the rich house. It’s a very contrived and silly plotline.

Daira comes to Al and they discuss how they dreamed that Lasagna was smiling and happy, maybe that means she’s content in the afterlife. Al begs her to stay in Mexico, but Daira says she can’t. Al begs for forgiveness, Daira says it’s not his fault. She says there isn’t anyone who can stop a girl from becoming a woman and making her own decisions. Something like that. Basically Lasagna messed up and there’s nothing they could have done about it.

Miranda tells Gonzalo that she left Al with Daira, she’ll see them tomorrow. Charo comes in to tell her something about Bertha. She has a message for Bertha from someone that called from Italy. I think it said “The thing about Alejandro is delicate, he’s there but he has important allies, call me when you can.” Miranda thanks Charo for telling her.

Fab’s cell – El Guapo is getting chewed out by Trinidad for what he is doing, his mother would be ashamed. He says he’s just helping someone teach Fab a lesson. Then he comments on how good-looking Fab is. Oh please Guapo let’s not go there. She tells Guapo that she did NOT call Fab’s mother like he begged her to. She tells Guapo also that this is the last time she’ll help him with something like this. He says he has something else for her to do and she disgustedly leaves. Guapo wakes up Fab by pouring water on his head. He tells him that it’s time to go. Where? To your destiny! Guapo calls someone on the cell phone. Bertha, presumably –

Bertha and Cesar are sitting opposite each other at a nice table at Casa San Llorente. Bertha is telling Guapo on the phone “Ok thank you for your work” and hangs up. There’s a knock on the door, Charo enters and gives Bertha the rundown on who is in the house, and that Juan came to be with Renata. Cesar says “Charo..” and she stops but Cesar says never mind and lets her go. Weird. Maybe he was checking her out, he needs a new amante to replace Lasagna after all. Charo has the personality of a child, though, that would be strange and creepy. Bertha is furious that Juan came, Cesar agrees that they need to scare him off and refers to him as “Juanita.” Bertha says, “Renata. That’s all I can think of” and grins at Cesar, who smiles shyly like he just received a present. He says he totally agrees. Bertha has just told him to try and seduce Renata. Or perhaps to take her by force. I’m not sure but Cesar the dog likes the idea. She says she has to be very firm with Fab as well, Cesar says he understands.

Miranda has a bland conversation with Al on the phone, rest up, yeah you too, tomorrow I’m going to the office, yeah great, I’m going to stay home and talk to some people, sounds great, I’ll see you tomorrow I love you, you too.

Juan tells Renata that he’ll be with her wherever, be it at his house or here at the rich house. Pleeeeease tell me that this means the whole thing about leaving Juan and the endless conversations about it are over. This plot needs to die. Bertha interrupts their kissing by barging in. Bertha claims that she thought Renata was alone. Renata starts to make an excuse for Juan being there but Juan talks over her saying that he’s there because Renata is his wife and he has the right. Gonzalo walks in and says “you heard it, Bertha.” Bertha is muy impactada. “uh uh Gonzalo, when did you get here?” Gonzalo doesn’t answer, he just tells her to get out. Awesome. Bertha has bug eyes and we see her bugging out in slow motion leading to the commercial. After the commercial, she asks Renata to defend her to Gonzalo, which Renata half-heartedly does. Bertha goes on a hyper rant about being treated unfairly, how Gonzalo doesn’t treat the women correctly, etc. She was the parent for the girls, not him, not Fernanda, not Tomasa. Juan interrupts and says “whatever Bertha that’s not what we’re talking about here.” Gonzalo agrees. Renata comforts Bertha. I think she is the only one left who is nice to Bertha, she’s losing her grip on this family. Juan says “Renata, aren’t you going to greet your father? He’s waiting.” Renata leaves Bertha to go to Gonzalo and Bertha runs out of the room. Juan for the first time ever changes his facial expression and cracks a smug smile. He knows he’s in control.

Bertha runs into her room and starts ranting to Lucas – “He’ll be sorry!” Juan is now her #1 enemy. She swears vengeance for making her look foolish. Then she uses Lucas as a pillow and lays on the floor. Lucas does not look like he approves of this arrangement and fidgets a lot.

Gonzalo says he’ll leave Miranda to rest and first thing in the morning he’ll call Alejandro. Renata gets up suddenly and says she wants to check on Bertha. Juan looks stunned, or is that just his normal look back again? Gonz tells him that he’ll get this and more dealing with Bertha, Juan agrees and comments that Gonz doesn’t seem to like her any more than he does. But above all, nobody is getting between him and Renata. Gonz tells him that maybe Renata doesn’t love him the same way, many things are different between them. Oh GOD NOT THIS AGAIN I THOUGHT IT WAS OVER. Juan says whatever they love each other, period. Thank you Juan for trying to give this plot the death it deserves. I apologize for mocking your inability to move your mouth. I take all back, please kill this plot. If you do, I will tell everyone how you emote like no other. Please I’m begging you. Juan tries hard – Gonz starts a sentence with “She is my daughter” but Juan cuts him off and says “With all due respect, she is my wife. Please allow me to take my rightful place.” Gonz appears to acquiesce, pats him on the arm, and leaves. Juan heaves a huge sigh, that took some guts.

Bertha is laying on Lucas and whimpering pitifully. Somebody shoot her. Lucas has apparently given up trying to free himself. Bertha starts whining about Juan and Renata says that he came because she wanted him here. Bertha claims that Juan is practically acting like he owns the place. Whatever. Bertha says he’s trying to displace her, he’ll come in here and take over. Everyone treats her like garbage. Waa waa waa, cry cry cry, rant rant rant. She starts rubbing her forehead and tells Renata to order Juan to treat her with respect. Renata nods. Good luck with that Renata, Juan appears to have grown a spine, it won’t be easy. I sense that there will be a fight, and the whole “should I stay or should I go” (darling you’ve got to let me kno-oow, should I stay or should I go – R.I.P. Joe Strummer) plot will live again. Like a bad cold, this will just not go away. I’m going to cry.

Gonz has apparently decided that Miranda doesn’t need to rest after all and he goes to see her. She is happy to see him. He says he had to give her a kiss before going to bed for the night. Gonz is now on a mission. He is going to clear everything up. Starting first thing in the morning. He has said “first thing in the morning” three different times now, does that mean he’s going to die in his sleep before having the chance to do anything? We’ll see. Miranda says she and Al have started to put the puzzle together. Gonz says he’s just missing a couple pieces and they’ll have it all together. They declare their love for each other, Miranda delivers some of her contractually-obligated daily tears. He tells her that she was always closer to him and he’s not supposed to have a favorite daughter, but her happiness means more to him than the others. More hugs, more tears. He tells her to rest, tomorrow is another day. Another reference to tomorrow. Something is going to happen, I’m telling you! Also, Miranda cries some more.

Renata is going to reproach Juan. Thin ice, girl. She says that Bertha can be the worst kind of monster but he has no right to treat her how he does. Does this make sense to anyone else? Ok good thought it was just me. He defends himself admirably, finally she has to say “she’s my family so you have to treat her nice.” He says he’s going to his house, she asks him to stay, she wants to be near him. He says come with me then, to the only place I have to offer you right now. She just asks him to stay again. He tells her, “it doesn’t matter to you that they humiliate me? You want me to stay anyway?” She says yes, he says “screw this man I’m outta here” and opens the door – “tell me, are you going to stay or go?”

The new day has arrived, I wonder how Gonzalo is? First we go to the supermarket where Carola is now training new people. This is basically an extension of the commercial break, it’s a big commercial for the store where she works. Chedragui I believe it’s called. Her boss comes up and tells everyone how great Carola is. Carola talks about how great the store is some more.

Nuria is cleaning Cesar’s apartment. Her apartment too I guess now, right? What a life. “I can give you all this – now clean it.” Cesar laughs at her as he walks into the room. The dumb bimbo thinks he’s smiling at her and is happy. He grunts that he’s got things to do and she says she’s going to church and to see Florencia. He tells her to hurry and be home when he returns. Then something about how she better keep the place clean and he gets a little rough with her, she says fine fine I’ll make sure everything stays clean. He kisses her roughly and bites her lip. She complains that it hurt. He says where there is no pain there is no love, right? She nods. NO SAY IT he tells her so she says “yes.” This guy is a textbook abuser. He sure seems able to find weak women easily. What on earth keeps this woman from just taking off and never coming back? Instead she gets to cleaning like he ordered her. She stops, she sees something, Lasagna’s necklace!

Luciano is complaining that things look worse as he looks on the computer. Al emerges looking good as new. He says talking to Daira helped him feel better. Luciano asks if he’s going to open an investigation of Lasagna’s death, Al says no. Fernanda said it was a natural death, Daira signed off on it, she wouldn’t want to keep things stirred up. So we’ll have to wait for dummy Nuria to tell somebody about the necklace before the investigation starts. Daira walks in to interrupt and tells Luciano that it wasn’t murder so drop it. He apologizes and asks if she has decided what she is going to do. Yes, she’s going back to Italy for some spiritual retreat. Al doesn’t like the idea of her being out of contact. She says she’ll be fine.

Nuria returns to the apartment and Cesar is already there. She says hello and he shushes her. She seems oblivious to his short temper, how can she not have that figured out by now? He tells her that Fabricio is there so she has to be quiet, don’t ask how he rescued him. He tells her that she can tell Fab that she is his wife now, etc. Cesar leaves. Now we see that Nuria is wearing Lasagna’s necklace! She looks at it as Fabricio comes out of the back room. Fab says he’s happy to be back. He isn’t going to see Flor right away because Cesar told him it would kill her from surprise. He asks why Nuria is here, she tells him that she and Cesar are married. He looks stunned by this.

Bertha finds Charo to get the scoop on who had breakfast, where they went, etc. Charo tells her about Gonzalo going to the hacienda to look for proof of something. Bertha wonders what proof that is. Renata comes in looking sad, Juan didn’t stay the night. Bertha tells her something self-serving, “I never did anything blah blah he made me feel bad I don’t like him.” Charo comes in but Renata doesn’t want to eat. This plot will not die and I swear if we weren’t getting near the end of this novela it might be enough to make me stop watching this show.

Miranda is talking to Mophead and telling her to not worry about being such a disaster with Florencia. Cesar walks in and tells his mother that the kidnappers have demanded a million Pesos to not kill Juan. Everyone is impactado.

Also, all the foreshadowing about Gonzalo not seeing the morning appears to have been for nothing.

Mundo de Fieras - Friday 11/17/06

While the school director is out of the office attending to a problem that just came up, Psycho-Mom, Jos, (dressed in a boldly blue shantung silk sundress and diamonds) sneaks in and begins to blame Mariangela for destroying her marriage and “happy” family. Mariangela of course wastes time trying to deny everything. Jos is on a roll and decides to break the glass cabinet behind Mariangela by throwing the big stapler she’s holding at it. She pulls out a large glass shard, screams, “Let me go! Don’t hurt me!” and other choice damsel in distress-isms. Naïve Mariangela just lamely stutters out to her to stop as Psycho-Mom slices the palm of her hand and bloodies everything and grabs Mariangela and threatens to cut her throat. Now Mariangela’s neck is superficially cut a bit and bloody, but the director comes in and immediately turns to Jos whose saying she’s had to defend herself from this woman who is destroying her marriage and is after her husband. I suppose because Jos is obviously wealthy, and thus influential, the director believes the psycho-mom version. When Jos takes off, the director tells Mariangela not to bother lying about the incident. She tells her she’s lucky Jos is not placing charges and adds, “You are a shameless slut. I was ready to hire you. Now, get out!” (It doesn’t occur to the director to wonder why somebody would do something crazy like this out of the blue???)

Gabe tells Nic that he finally told Paulina she was adopted and that in the end she took it very well. (How else could she have acted. Besides why give up all those big bucks and livin' large?)

Paulina finds the heating pad in an office drawer and realizes the trick JC played on her to get her to start talking to him again. He admits it and the two laugh and kiss. (Good, cause I'm getting tired of her spoiled, flip-flop tantrums. All these rich novela women are taught from an early age that tantrums get you everything.)

Mariangela is walking around crying over the injustice of what happened at the school while Jos skitters up the stairs to her bedroom with her bloody hand. In her room she stops and looks at the cut, almost mesmerized by it. Then she hears Clemente coming up to the room and purposely drops a perfume bottle on the floor and tells him that she just cut herself when picking up the pieces. He rushes out to get something to wrap it with. We see the secretive smile on her face: "Fooled the old dolt again."

Mariangela tells Mayeya what happened at the school and how Jos purposely followed her there to give her grief. Mayeya (the only sensible female character in this novela) advises her to report the crazy broad to the police or, at least, tell Gabe about it.

Juan Cristobal goes home and Regina is there to hand him the engagement ring she’d just picked up from the jeweler’s. She explains it was made from a diamond broach of her grandmother’s and JC thanks her. (What's one more diamond ring, anyway?)

Tiberio and Karen are knocking back shots of tequila at the bar again. (About this time I am ready for a couple of those myself.) Ti teases Karen about Deloris being her aunt and them now being cousins. Karen is angry about Paulina telling her what’s what about Juan Cristobal and starts downing shots one right after the other. Ti offers to help her make Pau and JC’s lives miserable. She mentions that she is about to get Tiberio a business partner that would invest lots of money so that he can become independent of Demian.

We have more comedy relief from Cortito, now a bread delivery man, delivering unwrapped loaves while riding on a bike. The loaves are in the bike’s basket and he loses his balance when some kids run past him. The loaves fall out onto the sidewalk and he loses his job uh-gain. Budda-boom.

Clemente and Frederico argue over the fact that Clemente foolishly brought Jos home from the psychiatric clinic. (Wow, so Freddy what are ya gonna do about it?) Frederico tells Clemente he hopes he doesn’t regret it and slams down the phone. Otilia arrives home from New York City. (Poor Fred. He really has had rotten luck with the women he’s hooked up with over the years……..)

Ingrid tells Miriam she’s worried about their parish priest. He could make trouble for them because he could report their abandoning Miriam’s baby at the church years ago. Miriam says it wasn’t a problem because she confessed to the other priest and so what. She doesn’t feel threatened in the least. “Anybody that steps in my way, well, things will go very badly for them.”

Silvestre and Leo discuss romantic love and motherly love. Leo says he wouldn’t be anything without his mother, Candy. While this conversation is going on, Pedro walks through the kitchen and finds Candy weak and bowled over, but she says she’s fine and he walks off.

Gabe complains to Clemente about the incident at the school. Gabe defends Mariangela by reminding him that she does not lie and wouldn’t have any reason to lie. Clemente agrees Mariangela is honest but says that would be impossible since Jos has been upstairs in her room all day. Gabe says she obviously escaped from them and that it was wrong to take Jos out of the clinic. (No duh.) He suggests she be sent back until she is totally cured and not before. (Hey, he's still her husband so, Nic, why can't Gabe get her committed?) Clemente looks upset at Gabe’s suggestion, but he goes upstairs to see what Jos has to say.

Jos of course swears she’s been at the house all day and Mariangela is out to destroy her family and would be capable of doing anything to get her way. Clemente, though, says he has no choice but to take Jos back. Things aren't working. She goes into hysterics at his feet begging for one more chance and screaming repeatedly that she is his daughter. After a couple of ear-shattering minutes of this he gives in and says she can stay. (Ever wonder why this guy turned into an alcoholic and smokes like a chimney? Between the hysterical screaming of his daughter’s uncontrollable tantrums which have obviously continued into adulthood, and his witchy wife locking away his “family jewels” in her private lock-box, it makes total sense to me!)

Otilia pays Miriam a surprise visit at the fashion house while Leo takes Candy home early from work at Gabe’s manse. Candy gets dizzy and faints. Leo becomes alarmed and pulls out his trusty stethoscope and blood pressure cuff and checks her out once she comes to. He tries to get her to stop working but Candy of course refuses.

Silvestre argues with Elsa outside the beauty shop over her going out with El Coyote. She tells him to “go buy a life” and leave her in peace. He says El Coyote doesn’t suit her and could hurt her really badly. He says he’s going to continue to be involved in her life because he cares for her. She says she never asked him to be her defender. He finally grabs her and says whether she likes it or not, he’s going to do it because loves her.

Otilia threatens Miriam. She reads from the Bible “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.” Miriam laughs and Otilia says, “It doesn’t scare you because you don’t have a conscience. I will give you a little help with that.” (Now SHE is comic relief!)

Clemente tells Gabe that he definitely is not going to send Jos back to the clinic. He is going to give her another chance like she asked. Gabe tells him to pay more attention with her and Clemente promises to do just that.

Pau invites Mariangela to her engagement dinner that night.

Jos brags to Miriam how clever she was in accusing Mariangela of attacking her at the school. Miriam tells her to be more careful about these things or her father will put her right back in the clinic. Jos says she was very skillful in preventing her father from that already. Miriam says nevertheless, Demian already came to threaten her about Jos trying to kill Regina. Jos says he doesn’t have any proof it was her. Miriam reminds her that she has to strike the enemy when he’s least expecting it and then hide her hand after she’s thrown the stone. Jos says she’ll try to pay attention to that but it’s difficult to control herself once she’s started to destroy somebody.

Regina and JC go to Gabe’s and Paulina's apartment for the dinner to formally ask for Pau’s hand. All the close friends and family are there. However, Demian is not invited as Regina has purposely not told him about it. She doesn’t want him to wreck the evening for JC and Pau.

Mariangela is dressed and ready to go to the dinner also, and stops by Leo and Candy’s. He’s ready to give her a lift over there when her hometown priest shows up with David who has just lost his parents in an accident. Candy promises the little boy a home there and Mariangela stays instead to comfort him.

Nic goes over to the mansion to ask Jos to sign the divorce papers he’s brought her. She refuses. If she can't have him, then she'll see that he will not find happiness with any other woman. Nic leaves.

Meanwhile, Demian and El Coyote are watching and waiting impatiently for Gabe’s construction workers to leave the area. When the workers are finally gone Demian says to El Coyote that he warned Gabe he should not build those houses on that land. He pushes the remote button and Gabe’s government housing project for the poor explodes. Demian laughs with insane glee saying, “How I do enjoy taking revenge on Gabriel.”

Gabe gets a call about the explosion . He throws a meaningful glance at Regina and and leaves the party.

Miriam advises Jos to go ahead with the divorce and to use Luisito to get back at Gabe by succeeding in getting the little boy living there with her at the mansion again.

Demian calls Regina on her cell wondering where she has gone that night with JC. Regina says they’re at the engagement dinner. He explodes from anger and screams "What in blazes are you doing there?" She tells him it was because JC and Pau are getting married soon. After the engagement party the next day he and she are arguing about it in his office at their home. Regina asks when he’s going to understand that it is not Gabe’s fault that he’s got money and was sold to a rich family. Demian is still bitter and says he lacked everything, everything. She warns him she will not allow his hate for his brother to harm Juan Cristobal.

Little Lui tells JC about the clown talking to him in his bedroom and scaring him. He swears the man was the one who kidnapped him and that he was really there, although nobody wants to believe him.

Paulina tells Mariangela that she is adopted. Mariangela says she never knew her father and wouldn’t care to meet him. Pau says it doesn’t matter that she is adopted, she still loves her father and he still loves her very much.

Demian is left alone in his office and swears to himself that he will never let JC marry Paulina, ever!

La Fea Más Bella #148 11/17/06 Intermission

A no-frills recap for a no-frills episode!

At the Padilla home

(Leftover from last night) Tomas performs a goofy little skit to demonstrate to Lety how much classier they would look if they could whip out a credit card rather than thumb through lots of bills. I'm not sure if Lety is truly convinced, or if she only agrees with him to humor him, but either way, Filmo-Imagen will soon have a credit card. Tomas is delighted and says "pipirisnice," or so it says in the captions; I don't know what that is, but maybe someone else knows?

Lety bids her parents a mushy goodbye; she seems to regret the conflict they had earlier, even though it was mostly on RoboPop's part; maybe she feels guilty about lying to them. Outside, she gushes to Tomas about how great they are and what would she do without them.

Tomas asks about the call he received last night while he was "sleeping." She confirms that the number on his phone was Fernando's. Tomas is pleased that he's responsible for Fern's attack of jealousy.

As they talk on the sidewalk, a bimbo passes and admires the car. (I'm not sure if this is the same bimbo as last time, or a different one.) Tomas greets her, and she answers him. He is thrilled that a woman has replied to him; between her attention and Alicia's, he seems to think he's a real stud now.

Lety says she's losing interest in tormenting Fern; she still wants to hurt him, but it can't be like last night, which was almost fatal.

In Fern's office

"It was a difficult night, but very special; we were together, and that's the most important thing," Fern writes in a card to Lety. This is no CarvaHallmark; it's pure Fernage. "To go back to feeling your kisses, to holding your body, to go back to wishing; you brought me back to life again, you rescued me from the anguish I've had for you; I don't know why you did it, but even at sunrise I was still happy with the feeling of your lips on my mouth." (I think that's basically correct, but it sounded a lot better in Spanish.)

Omar comes in and they discuss last night. Omar is surprised that Fern took the risk of taking Lety to El Meson de San Diego, and Fern confirms that he ran into just about everyone in the entire world, including one Monica Agudelos, a major gossip. (Fern wiggles his fingers in front of his mouth like a forked tongue and makes a hissing sound.)

Fern describes the events of the evening. This is 90% rehash of stuff you've already seen and/or read, so here's a heavily condensed, paraphrased version of their conversation:

Fern: Women flirted with me. Lety kept making sad faces and drank vodka. She called Tomas on my cell phone when I wasn't looking. She wanted to kiss me in front of everyone.

Omar: [obnoxious, snide remarks]

Fern: We argued and she ran outside. I kissed her on the street.

Omar: What about the car and the money?

Fern: We talked about all of that, but I didn't get anything. I feel so helpless. Boo hoo hoo Tomas Mora. Last night confirmed that there is something going on between them. I'm scared, waaah, I'm a big baby.

Omar: Nobody uses her boyfriend's phone to call her other boyfriend! She's a horrible snake.

Fern: She's not a horrible snake.

Omar: True, she's not as attractive. Take her to a five-star hotel.

Fern: No can do, because she won't make love with me.

Omar is incredulous, because let's face it, if it can happen to Fern, it could happen to anyone. Maybe even Omar someday. And then his life would pretty much be over.

Omar asks if Fernando has a card and toy ready. He reads Fern's card and teases him about his literary skills, then suggestively wonders aloud if Tomas is better endowed than Fern.

Now that his daily duties of rehashing old information and putting newer, stupider ideas into Fernando's head are finished, Captain Rehash goes back to his own office, perhaps to play video poker, download pr0n, or compose another incriminating letter. We don't really know what Captain Rehash does with his free time at Conceptos. It is his secret, but I suspect that it involves naked Barbie dolls.

Lety comes in, and Fern asks where she went last night, if she got home okay. She says yes, and goes into her office. (As soon as she closes the door, Fern shakes his fist in frustration.) There, she finds the Card of the Day. She starts reading it, in a slightly mocking voice, and Fern comes in to watch her read the rest. "Lovely as always, thank you" she comments sweetly, and gives him a sugary smile. He says last night's kiss affected him deeply; he wants them to be as they were. He gets affectionate with her, hugs her, and is about to kiss her when the phone starts ringing.

He urges her not to answer it; he wants to kiss her. She protests that it's his direct line and is probably an important call. He doesn't care. Her answer is even more urgent.

Just when lip-contact is imminent, Lety hurriedly says "yes, we'll be like we were before," disengages and answers the phone.

It's Humberto Mendiola! As Lety happily passes the phone to Fern, relief glowing on her face, he steals a few kisses. She makes a happy face, but as soon as her back is turned, she wipes her mouth. Fern is oblivious, listening to his father; his parents are in Cannes, because the festival is today! D'oh!!

Fern is shocked that he forgot, but we're not, because we know he'd forget his own hair if it wasn't slicked firmly to his head. After all, it was the same keen inattention that caused him and Omar to somehow overlook some important ledger numbers very early on in this series, causing them to think the company had more money to spend than it really did, hence Conceptos's financial troubles. (This was before Lety was overseeing all of the financials.) Now we're meant to believe that in addition to that, neither Fern nor his very capable assistant was able to keep track of the date of the Cannes Film Festival (fair enough since the actual festival takes place in May, not in August when this episode originally aired in Mexico).

You'll also recall that both Christina Rivapalacios and Carolina tried to go over the Cannes plans with Fern a few weeks ago, but he was too scatterbrained to pay attention; meanwhile, Lety was having a meltdown in her office, having just read The Letter.

Anyway, Fern and his dad talk about Cannes; he says he's been busy preparing for the Big Meeting, and not to worry about that, because it's going to be very good news about the state of the business.

Fern needs to write down the time of his parents' flight into Mexico. Lety is getting huffy and impatient. She hands him a pad of stickies and a pen, and pushes her little chair at him. He absentmindedly makes himself at home at her desk. (She stares at the candle that Carolina got for her.)

Humberto mentions the wedding - Fern doesn't have much to say about that; he's been too busy working on stuff for the film festival! LOL! In fact, it's a party to celebrate the Cannes nomination; it'll be the day after the Big Meeting - two days before the wedding. (Actually, he seems to say it the other way around - party is antes the Big Meeting but despues the wedding - but that doesn't make any sense; I thought the wedding was supposed to be after the Big Meeting? Or maybe he's talking about the film festival... I'm not sure... help...)

Well, whatever, Lety gets uncomfortable, and realizing that Fern won't be leaving her office anytime soon, Lety leaves him to hang out with the cuartel for a while.

Marcia and Alicia

Marcia is chatting on the phone with Monica Agudelos as she steps off the elevator into the executive lobby. First, Monica wants to know if Marcia and Fern have broken up; Marcia says no. Then Monica tells Marcia that she saw Fern at a restaurant last night with a woman of Lety's general description, but there was no man (Mario Rivero) with them, as Fern had told Marcia. Moreover, Lety was being very affectionate with Fernando. This amuses Marcia. She ends the call hastily, thanks Monica for warning her about Fern, and rolls her eyes at Monica's fanciful gossip.

Marcia asks Alicia about last night. Al doesn't mention any names, but she does say very loudly (for the eavesdropping cuartel's benefit) that her multimillionaire date took her to Le Noir, she isn't one of those people who can only dine there when invited by an ugly friend, no, she doesn't have any ugly amigas. They ate scallops and drank cognac. Unlike the unsophisticated nacos who drink tacky things like champagne and call attention to themselves. And they ate scallops, blah blah, blah.

The cuartel are visibly intrigued. Marcia suggests that they be more discreet (she says "the only thing you haven't done is say the guy's name") and continue their conversation in her office. Alicia tells Marcia that Tomas picked her up in Lety's car, and wonders if Lety had to walk home.

Marcia says no, Lety went with Fern to El Meson de San Diego (EMSD) - Monica A. told her all about it. Alicia sits down at this news. "He snuck away from you again?" she asks. Marcia says no, he went home afterwards, but she's a little worried because Monica said they were sitting alone at a table, drinking, and she was very affectionate with him.

Saimon dances in with the wedding invitations, sings about brides, compliments Alicia's dye job (she squeals indignantly and strokes her hair), and dances out. Marcia is delighted with the invitations. (It's hard to believe that Marcia still wants to go through with the wedding.) Alicia enthuses about them too, but makes a little face when Marcia can't see.

Months ago, Alicia asked Marcia how dumb does she have to be to continue a relationship with a man who constantly cheats on her; the words stung, but obviously didn't stick. I have to give Alicia some credit for a) being able to see Marcia's errors and b) not belaboring a point that Marcia just isn't ready to "get" yet.

Alicia goes on to say that Tomas had obviously never been in a place like Le Noir before and didn't know where it was, and describes some of his hijinks: ordering fries, rice, eggs, etc; not having a credit card (she finds this especially shocking); and paying with a business check and punching it all over with his rubber stamp.

Marcia isn't surprised by any of this. It's weird enough that he's dating Lety. None of the guys they know would date someone like her. I don't get much of the next part of the conversation, stuff about Alicia not wanting to serve tacos, maybe, and Marcia says something like "the only reason someone would go out with someone like Tomas would be to hurt someone, and you're the only one I know who wants to hurt the cuartel."

Alicia concludes that Tomas has no class, but lots of money, and his relationship with Lety is very informal.

Marcia, who has no patience for homewrecking women (but is willing to marry a potentially homewrecking man), warns Alicia that it doesn't seem very informal to her, and that Tomas is very special to Lety.

Alicia doesn't see it that way. She says she can see where they might be close companions and fellow economists, but not novios. (I have to admit she has a knack for this stuff, while Marcia seems pretty oblivious not only to the truth of her own affairs, but everyone else's.)

But Marcia does say that Alicia is playing a dangerous game, and wonders if she wants the cuartel to catch her. Alicia thinks this would work out okay for her, at least, and says it's too bad that Tomas is the only boyfriend Lety has ever had. She babbles some more about the cuartel's hurtful words and some other stuff. Marcia reminds her that she doesn't like people who create these kinds of scandals.

Ariel calls. He's here, and he wants to meet with Marcia. She invites him up. Alicia seems disappointed that he wasn't looking for her (I guess she still hopes that some of his money will rub off on her while he's insulting her). She asks didn't he talk to Marcia last night, and Marcia says no, he tended to the other guests and left her alone (just as she had expected) so she went home early.

She warns Alicia one last time that she doesn't like what she's doing with "this man." "What man?" Alicia innocently inquires, and goes back to her desk.

She immediately calls Tomas. He is delighted to hear from her, but she cryptically asks him to call her back in two minutes and hangs up.

Ariel approaches and asks if she has a photo of herself handy. She says she has the photo that's on her badge, but Ariel says it won't do. He needs one of her entire body. She wants to know why. He says don't flatter yourself, I don't keep photos in my own wallet, but I need it to give to some friends who might be willing to meet you. If I just introduce you, they'll be bored with your chatter; but if they see your photo instead they might be more enthusiastic - talking won't be neccessary. (What sort of "friends" does a guy like Ariel have? Flying monkeys? Mansons? Cesar from "Heridas"?)

Alicia puffs up and informs him that she doesn't have to endure his humiliation any more; her life has changed. Ariel asks if she won the lottery. She says no, it's something better. Right on cue, she is interrupted by a call from Tomas.

Tomas isn't quite sure why he's calling back, but he's pleased with the greeting she gives him - "mi amor divino," etc.

Straining to listen, Sara, Lola, and Martha nearly fall off their chairs.

The Cuartel

Rewinding a bit, to when Alicia and Marcia were discussing Alicia's hot date in front of the cuartel...

The cuartel are intrigued by Alicia's bragging (I don't know why) and are consumed with curiousity about this incredibly convenient rich guy who seems to have come from out of nowhere. They adjourn to the restroom to discuss this further. They feel sure that Alicia is lying, and Martha particularly wants to find out because not knowing is like being in front of yummy mole and not being able to eat it. Sara and Lola agree that they really need this piece of gossip, as does Juana, although Irma disapproves. For Martha, the thing is, maybe it won't cure her flatulence, but at least gossip won't cause her to gain weight!

PM, whose is dressed relatively modestly today, whines at Lety for not bringing the car today, but Lety says it's not for every day. They invite Lety to a restroom meeting later on, but first, she has to check in with Fern since she's a little late.

Saimon and PM talk mushy for a short while, but are interrupted by a very grumpy, depressed Luigi, who yells to get their attention, then warns them not to speak at him or even look at him.

When he gets up to the executive floor, he repeats his warning, and the cuartel flock around him in concern. What's he so upset about? Cannes! Today they're going to announce the winners! He doesn't want anyone to mention it in front of him, or bother him at all, until he finds out whether they've won. He makes some needlessly unkind remarks to the cuartel and then complains that his mimisquis (heart palpitations?) are coming and going like hot flashes on a menopausal woman. He flees to his office to hide and wait for some news.

They (the cuartel, that is, not Luigi) meet with Lety in the restroom to discuss Alicia's mystery date. Did she really go to Le Noir? (Who cares??) They just have to know. They decide to call Le Noir to find out, and try to figure out how to get them to say, because "we need some gossip, please tell us if Alicia was there last night" isn't going to cut it.

PM says they can say that Al didn't come to work today, and they're worried about her, and they heard she was going to Le Noir last night with some guy, so they just want to know if she got there.

Lety disapproves - if Alicia finds out, there will be trouble. PM says Al's not smart enough to find out - she only uses her head as a place to keep her hair. She adds that they can call back five minutes later and say "never mind, here she is" and all will be well.

Lety still doesn't approve, but they've already decided. She rolls her eyes and gives in. They elect Martha to make the phone call; they disperse, and Lety goes back to her office, where Fern is wrapping up that phone call with his parents.

Wrap-Up

In Lety's office, Fern reminds his mother that it's only going to be a civil ceremony. Lety just misses this comment, entering the room a split-second later. She hears him mention the "surprise" that his mother is hinting about to him; he pretends not to know what she's referring to (the house they're buying as their wedding present). He hangs up and Lety mentions the house.

He asks Lety again about fixing the numbers for the Big Meeting. She doesn't commit; instead, she says "now that we've renewed our relationship, you're going to cancel the wedding, like you promised, right?" He answers, "I promise I swear I'm going to cancel it right after the Big Meeting, but I need to know if you're going to help me with cooking the books." Lety says "First things first. First I have to have the balances before I can screw around with them." He says "okay, and then you can do it, right?"

She says yes. Fern answers, "okay, I will. I am in love with you." Lety mutters "me too," with that poop-eating grin again. She is obviously disgusted that this lie (as she believes it) rolls off his lips so easily now that he thinks she and Tomas are going to steal his business.

Fern retreats to his desk while Lety brushes evil Mendiola cooties off of her desk, chair, and other things (her Fernishings, you might say).

"I would love to do what I just promised you, Lety. You don't know how much I would love to do that."

Next week...
Will Conceptos win a Golden Lion? If they sell it, will they be able to pay off their debts?
What will Marcia say when she catches Lety and Fern in a torrid embrace?
Will Martha's phone call to Le Noir yield useful information?Does Ariel really have friends?

Mundo de Fieras, Thurs. Nov. 16--Snakes in a Minivan

Gabriel tells Paulina that she’s adopted in the worst way possible…you aren’t my daughter. Smooth. Apparently Gabe hasn’t read any of the standard “What to expect when you adopt a kid” books that are out there. Paulina freaks out and then Gabe does, and then they realize, oh wait, we really will still be father and daughter.

Miriam is waiting for crazy Jocelyn (who’s playing with a cat in the pet store) while Karen pretends to be her mom (bad hospital gown and all). Jocelyn calls Regina’s house, looking for her. In the garage, Jocelyn caresses Regina’s car, then dumps a snake on the driver’s seat.

Regina’s at the jewelry store picking up the reconditioned ring for JC & Paulina. She loves it (blah blah blah) and then gets in her car. Driving and fumbling for her cell phone, the snake bites her wrist.

Luisito hears a scary noise. The closet door creaks open and out pops the boogie man, aka Coyote. Gabe & Paulina run in and Luisito is hysterical. They calm him down. Coyote skulks away contemplating a future kidnapping plan.

Miriam, the mother-accomplice, picks up Jocelyn and they discuss visiting Luisito. Miriam says that Gabe will be there so they can’t, but Jos says, don’t worry, the guy that works for me has a way to go in and out of the apartment without being seen. Besides, she has some brainwashing to do. The ladies see some working girls at the stoplight which seems to give Jos an idea.

Ewww…Demian is getting a massage, he has a little daydream in which the masseuse is really Mariangela. Where did that come from?

Jocelyn is back at the psychiatric hospital and Miriam is tucking her in, giving her a goodnight kiss and serving her a nice glass of warm milk. Well, actually Jos is fixing up her makeup and they are plotting to see how to get her out of the hospital. Miriam seems to think Clemente is the only one who can help.

JC gets the news that his mom has been bitten by a snake. He rushes off to the hospital. Demian, plotting with Coyote, receives the same news and seems sincerely concerned. He has his driver rush him off to the hospital.

Clemente, wearing the same suit he wore in 1974, tells Miriam that he’s made a decision. He’s going to tell Jos that Mari is her sister. Even Miriam can see that might require an extended stay at the psychiatric clinic. Miriam asks him to wait a little while, since it will really harm Jocelyn’s well-being. Then she offers him some whiskey to help calm him down. He says, no…I already told you I’m not drinking anymore. Pshaw, says Miriam, one little glass won’t hurt. Do it for Jos. And then…he does! What an idiot!

At the hospital, JC is with Regina who seems fine. Enter Demian. Regina tells him the whole story, ending with, I don’t understand how a snake got in my car.

Shorty has yet another new job…now he’s working for a dog groomer. All the dogs get loose and we have a brief moment of slapstick comic relief.

Candelaria is trying to talk some sense into snotty Elsa who seems about 6 or 7 years too old for this “stage”. Elsa reiterates that she’s Coyote’s chick and he will take care of her. Candi asks the very good question, have you thought about what it will cost to do that? Elsa answers, yes of course and it doesn’t matter to me. Candi says the most important thing is dignity and then Elsa goes nutso, asking what dignity in this crappy little life of yours, all that matters to me is having a lot of money.

Clemente visits Jos. She tells him that she can’t stay in those four walls any longer. Clemente tries to explain that she has to be patient because it’s for her own good. Cue the “cloying” music, Jocelyn starts in on her poor, little, all alone, me act. She’s sure that with the therapy she’s received she can handle things on the outside now. She understands she’s sick but tells Clemente that she can receive treatment at his house. Then the clincher…This is your opportunity to show me that you love me. He buys it.

Leonardo is comforting Candelaria and telling her not to worry. Ummm…she should probably worry. She’s right when she says Coyote’s a bad guy, and her stupid daughter is going to learn bad things hanging out with him. Candi doesn’t understand how Elsa turned out like that, she raised her right. Then she basically says, why can’t she be more like Mariangela. Predictably, Leo says, no one is like Mariangela.

Cut to Santa Mari tutoring Luisito. They gush at each other (ugh).

Clemente consults with the doctor who says yes, she’s better but she should stay and continue with her treatment. Clemente asks if she could continue from home, because she suffers from claustrophobia (wouldn’t they have a pill for that somewhere in the psychiatric hospital) and can’t stand her little room. The stupid doctor says, okay.

Jocelyn gets her way and comes home with Clemente. You are the best dad in the world! She promises to continue with her treatment and therapy.

Paulina and JC are at the office, discussing the snake in the minivan. Paulina says it seems kind of strange, since they live in the city and not the country (duh) and then asks (cutely), how’s my mother-in-law. Paulina tells JC that they can get married without worrying about the whole weird cousin thing, because she’s really adopted. It’s a happy-sad thing.

Karen is having a grumpy flashback and reiterates her commitment to preventing the two lovebirds from getting married. At his office, she sneaks up behind JC, giving him a hug and he almost falls for it but pushes her away when he realizes it's her and not Pau. Enter Paulina, who finally got a back bone, and tells her to leave them alone and then slaps her good and hard. JC breaks up the catfight so a little war of the words ensues. Pau says I’m not afraid of you. Karen tells Paulina she’ll need more than slaps to fight a wild animal. Pau replies, yeah, I’ve put up with your sh*t for a long time and I’m not going to anymore. Karen stalks off, pushing their coworkers (who have probably had just about enough office drama by this point) out of the way.

Demian bursts (literally) into Miriam’s office and tells her to stay away from (or something to that effect) Regina. She does her usual, pshaw. Then he repeats it and adds a little emphasis by strangling her a little bit. She denies it and then he asks is it that B.S.C. daughter of yours. He grabs her to shake her some more, but then someone flips the switch, and instead he starts kissing her and throws her down on the desk for some afternoon action.

Tiberio, having earlier overheard Karen tell Dolores that she know she killed Edgar, tells Dolores that he, now more than ever, will not accept her as his mother. He knows she’s a cold-blooded brother killer. She tells him I didn’t do it. He answers back, I don’t believe you because since I met you, you’ve been lying to me. She says she had to do it to get close to him, that she’s been a victim here and she deserves a chance since she’s his mom. He looks like he just might break down and believe her.

Clemente asks Candi to take care of Jos who’s in her room resting (but is really on the stairs listening and cursing Mariangela). Later, Candi’s on the phone with Mari talking about the new school. Again Jos is eavesdropping and hears where the school is. She skulks off. Later, Candi checks in on her and naively falls for the old pillows stuffed under the blanket ruse.

Shorty’s pants are shredded and he has pawprints on his shirt. All the other taxi drivers are teasing him.

Demian and Miriam are buttoning back up. Miriam reiterates that she didn’t do anything to Regina. Demian says, for your well-being I hope you didn’t. He threatens her and BSC daughter a little more, telling her that no one touches Regina.

As Gabe & Regina are making plans to have a family get-together tonight for the two lovebirds, Demian is finalizing his evil plans against Gabe. He says that tonight he’ll give a big headache to his brother.

Mari is at her new school. Jocelyn skulks in and threatens Mari. Jos then cuts herself and screams, let go of me, to make it seem like Mari attacked her. We end with a very sharp piece of glass pressing against Mari’s neck. Yipes!

La Fea Más Bella #147 11/16/06 If You Didn't Need a Hanky You Must Not Be Human

We’ll start off with The Kiss… and, ohhh my gosh, what a kiss! It’s passionate. It’s fiery. It’s reciprocal… and so deliciously long! [Wow! Sigh! Swoon! You get the idea. I won’t deny that I replayed this scene ten or twelve times. ]

Cut to Marcia, who is arriving home after Ariel’s party. She is pensive.

No, Lety did not pull away from the kiss. When they finally stop kissing, Fern says he wants to take her somewhere so they can be alone. Lety tells him not to touch her. She hails a cab. Fern begs her not to go. He can take her home later. He wants to show her how much he loves her [that did not sound so crass in Spanish]. He says he knows he behaved badly in the restaurant, he’s here now, and he wants to look into her eyes so she can see that he is sincere. His voice cracks. He’s dying to be with her. He holds her face in his hands. He pleads. A tear rolls down his cheek. He begs her to please go with him because he loves her with all his heart. Lety appears to mull this over, but then she recalls Omar’s letter-- specifically, the part where Omar wrote a mantra for Fern to use when he feels horrified by being with her: “I kiss Lety in order to not lose Conceptos, I boink Lety in order to not lose Conceptos.” As Fern goes in for another kiss, she regains her nerve and harshly responds, “Well, I don’t want you!” and takes off in the cab, crying.

Standing alone on the sidewalk, Fern is beside himself. He asks “Doesn’t she feel how much I really love her?” He sighs as he says her name and wonders why she is doing this to him. He’s crying. [If only I could reach into my t.v. and comfort him…sniff…] He regains his composure, walks back inside the restaurant, and orders a whiskey.

He sits by the fireplace and recalls (yet again) the Psychic Guy telling him (Fern) that he is incapable of solving his problems, because he’s got them all mixed up. He must separate his business and his love life, and choose between them. Then he remembers the board meeting where his father handed over the company to Fern, and gave a short speech about how he’s handing over to his son a successful, family-run company with absolutely no problems of any kind, and that, God willing, Fern will keep the company on a successful path. Ariel sneers and says that God’s will is going to have to be really strong to make that happen.

Fern then replays in his head over and over the last scene with Lety. He thinks this can’t be true. He admits that yes, everything is mixed up, but his father left him the business, and the business has to be his priority… no, the business is his priority. He resolutely takes a swig of his whiskey.

Alicia and Tomas – or rather, Tommie – are on their hot date at Le Noir. Tommie is styling in his suit, pink shirt and tall pompadour. Alicia is wearing a tiny silver dress and is also sporting a tall pompadour. Alicia tells Tommie about her rich ex-husband. Tommie says he and the ex-husband know of each other, although they have never actually hung out together. Alicia says she has many suitors, but none of them are good enough for her. The waiter brings their food. Tommie says there’s not enough food on his plate to fill his stomach. He orders soup, French fries (because it’s a French restaurant), plus rice and eggs. The waiter is annoyed. Tommie complains about the food portions. Alicia asks where he normally eats. He says he eats at a place right next to Filmo Imagen. The proprietor, Doña Ju… uh, that is, the proprietor of the place is a great cook. Alicia pretends to be interested.

Lety gets home and Robopop is waiting up for her. He gives her the third degree and is worried about the swiggle-mobile. Lety says she came home in a taxi and assures him the swiggle-mobile is okay, because Tomas has it. Robopop is not convinced.

Alicia asks Tommie whether he lives alone. She is surprised that he does. She asks if he’s going to marry Lety; after all, he buys her all kinds of things and gives her money and lends her his car. Tommie says he’s not planning to marry Lety, he’s just a generous guy. Alicia sees her chance. She asks whether he would do the same for her as he does for Lety. Tommie gets an “Oh crap! What did I get myself into” look on his face.

In Lety’s room, her mom is comforting Lety. Julieta tells her that, whatever is wrong, she can help Lety. As usual, Lety just tells Julieta that nothing is wrong.

Alicia sees Tommie’s “oh crap” reaction and says she’s just kidding. But then says that she understands if he just doesn’t like her as much as he likes Lety. She goes on to give her sob-story about her credit card bills and her repo’ed car. The food arrives. Tommie snorts in delight. Alicia goes on about lawyers and frozen bank accounts. Tommie, who seems distracted by the food, says he’d be glad to help her. He feeds her French fries. She pretends to like it. He says he can have his lawyers help her. She’s pretty happy about that, “Aaaaay, Tommie!” The waiter brings the bill. Tommie is impactado. He can’t believe how high the bill is. He refuses to pay the tip. Alicia tries to reason with him and he finally agrees to pay. He takes out a wad of cash but it’s not enough. He takes out the Filmo Imagen checkbook but the waiter says they don’t accept checks. Alicia suggests that he pay with a credit card. Tommie won’t admit that he doesn’t have one, and instead says he doesn’t believe in credit cards. Alicia convinces the waiter to accept Tommie’s check. Tommie takes out his rubber stamp and ceremoniously pounds the check with it to prove that the check is good. They leave the restaurant and he beats the valet to open Alicia’s door. At first I thought he just wanted the pleasure of gawking at Alicia getting into the car, but when he wouldn’t let the valet open the driver’s side either, I realized he just didn’t want to tip the valet. The valet tells Tommie that he took really good care of the care, just like Tommie asked. Tommie says great, and then says he left the his tip with the waiter. The waiter says “yeah right” and gives him a nasty look. Alicia tells Tommie she does not want Lety to know about their date. She would normally never go out with a friend’s boyfriend. Tommie agrees that they should not tell Lety, as Lety is very jealous. He says he has that effect on women.

Lety writes in her diary that she should not have listened to Tomas. The night was a disaster. She had planned to embarrass him in front of his friends, but it was too hard for her. She just can’t play those games because, even though he ruined her life, she still loves him. The mere touch of his skin sends a clear message within her that she is nowhere near getting over him. As Lety speaks, there’s a shot of a very sad Fern, still drinking in front of the fireplace at the restaurant. [There, there, Fern, want some of my Cherry Garcia?] Lety admits to her diary that when he kissed her she almost gave in to his plead to go with him. She would never have forgiven herself for letting her love win over her dignity. She decides she must keep her distance from him until she gets over him.

Fern’s phone rings. Guess who? He tells Marcia that he’s finishing up his drink, and he’ll be going home shortly. She can even call him at home later to confirm that he’s really there. He hangs up and wipes the tears from his eyes.

Lety thinks aloud that Fern must be home by now with Marcia. He probably had to shower to cleanse himself after his contact with her (Lety). Meanwhile, here she is, still lost in the sensation of his touch. She’s left with his smell and with the taste of his kiss. She says he must suffer for betraying her. He claims he is jealous of Tomas over her but she is sure that he is really just afraid that Tomas is trying to take his company. Fern doesn’t trust Tomas and that is what launched them into this tragedy. What bothers her even more is that Fern looks down on Tomas, as if Tomas were inferior, as if Tomas does not have a right to a better life. [Don’t think she would be defending Tom like this if she knew what he was up to just then.] Another shot of Fern with his whiskey.

Tommie drives Alicia home. Still in the car, she turns her seduction mode into high gear. She thanks him and reminds him to call her. Tommie goes in for a kiss. She turns his face and kisses his cheek. She asks if he wants to go inside. Tommie can’t believe he’s about to get lucky! Wait… no luck… before he can even respond, Alicia takes it back. She says she’s so sorry, she knows he’s with Lety and it was very inappropriate of her to invite him in and she doesn’t want him to get the wrong idea about her. Tommie is still speechless. Alicia hurriedly jumps out of the car and runs off before he can say anything. Before going inside, she turns around and blows him a kiss [bleh!]. He blows her a kiss too [double bleh!]. After she’s gone, he congratulates himself. He thinks he left her wanting more. He can’t believe she was just sitting right there in the passenger side next to him. He says he will not let anyone else sit in that seat now that she’s been there. He proclaims his love for her.

The next morning, Lety walks down the stairs from her room. She stops to put on a brave face, then continues down to the dining table where her parents are. Robopop wants to know if she told Don Fernando about buying the swiggle-mobile, and whether he knows that Tomas is driving it. Lety says that Fern knows everything and that he’s fine with it. [This lying thing with her parents is becoming too easy for her… sorry, that’s the worried mom in me]. Robopop warns Lety to be careful with Tomas, because he is getting very attached to the car. Lety says there’s nothing to worry about; Tomas is responsible and trust-worthy. Just then, she reaches into a desk drawer for Filmo Imagen’s money box. She sees that the money is gone, and so is the checkbook.

Fern is at home, sitting in his thinking chair, looking out the window. He looks really hunky in a simple white t-shirt. He’s covered in a blanket and it looks like maybe he’s been sitting there all night. Surprisingly, he does not seem hung over. He’s got a sweet grin on his face as he thinks aloud that he kissed Lety. [Yeah, I’m getting a silly grin remembering that incredible kiss too! …Is it hot in here?]

Lety looks worried. They hear Tomas drive up and beep obnoxiously. He comes in wearing a different suit but the same tall pompadour. Robopop yells at him for being obnoxious. He tells Tomas the neighbors all think he’s a chauffer. Tomas retorts that his elegance must really bother Robopop. He tells Julieta that he’s not hungry, so he’ll just have some chocolate milk, two pieces of bread, juice, and a couple of eggs. Robopop lectures Lety about respecting his house and tells her that she must always report where she is. Lety slams her hand on the table, but then relents. She apologizes and agrees to abide by his rules. Lety takes Tomas aside to ask about the missing money and checkbook. He says that he has them because he needed them for some expenses. He says he noticed that there is a lot of money missing. Lety admits that she took some money to pay for lunch at Le Noir. Tomas freaks out. He says that place is too expensive and their portions are too small. Lety wants to know how he knows that. Tomas talks his way out of it and Lety is in a hurry to leave for work so he does not get busted.

Fern arrives at the office and asks PM for Lety. PM reports that Lety hasn’t arrived; she is probably driving her boyfriend’s sports car and she drives very slowly. Fern agrees. He jokes that with her slow driving, she doesn’t really get the benefit of driving a sports car. Not funny but he fakes a goofy laugh anyway.

Julieta is in the kitchen arguing with Robopop on Lety’s behalf. She says Lety can not be a little girl forever. They have to let her live her life and let her learn from her mistakes. Their job as parents is to be there for her no matter what. Lety overhears them and rushes over to hug them.

Mundo de Fieras, Wed, Nov. 15

Gabriel goes to Demian’s office and tells him that his plan to stop construction on the houses that Gabriel is building hasn’t worked and construction is continuing. Demian pretends that he doesn’t know what Gabriel is talking about.

Father Anselmo tells Father Domingo that he still has the problem of revealing Leonardo’s true mother. Father Anselmo says that he will support Leonardo in everything.

MA tells Leo how happy she is that Luisito likes her again. Leo is happy and says that her smile is radiant.

Cortito tries for a job as a driver but isn’t able to operate any of the trucks or construction equipment the boss shows him.

Elsa, in a big fur coat, barges through a service being held for Aurora by Father Domingo. Candelaria wonders what is going on with her.

Belen asks Tiberio if she likes her and he says of course not. The only thing he was interested in she already gave him. She is upset.

Paulina hears singing and looks out her window to see JC dressed like a gondolier and lip synching the aria from an Italian opera.

Leo asks where Elsa got such an expensive coat. [the coat is so ugly it looks like it was made from road kill]. She won’t provide any information. Leo lectures her.

Paulina doesn’t respond to JC’s serenata and he leaves.

There’s a rumble on the streets with Coyote’s motorcycle gang. Gabino [I think that is his name] insults Coyote about his relationship with Elsa and gets beaten up. Cortito observes this and brings Leo and the rest of the cabbies to help. Leo tells Coyote to leave Elsa alone and he says, ‘Make me.’

Meanwhile, Elsa and Candelaria have a screaming fight about her relationship with Coyote. Mercifully, the coat gets ripped off in the process. Elsa tells Candy that she is of age and will do what she wants.

Karen visits the psychiatric hospital where Joselyn is. Joselyn is dressed in a hospital gown but she has all her make up on. Karen reports on the encounter between MA, Regina and Miriam. Upon hearing that Regina defended MA, Joselyn makes threats.

Tiberio yells at Dolores to leave him alone. Regina intervenes and tells him to apologize but he refuses and leaves. Dolores tells Regina that she will keep trying with Tiberio until he accepts her as his mother.

MA stops by the pozole stand and the regulars tell her about Cortito’s misfortune to have had his cab stolen. They tell her that he has found another job.

Cortito is driving a mini bus and Mayeya is keeping him company. There is some altercation with the bus passengers that is doubtless supposed to be humorous.

Belen quits her job as Tiberio’s secretary.

Karen tries to get Rogelio to invest in a business with Tiberio, I think. He says that he will think about it.

Regina goes to see Gabriel to ask for his help in getting their children together. She says that the problem is that they are first cousins. Gabriel confesses to her that Paulina is adopted. She is impactada.

Paulina comes into the office she shares with JC to find him packing up his stuff. He says that he can’t be near her like this. He is quitting the project. Now, of course, she says that she can’t live without him and they embrace passionately.

Dolores comes to see Karen. Karen doesn’t want to talk to Dolores at first but eventually says that her grandmother has told her everything- that Dolores killed her brother, Karen’s father. Tiberio overhears this.

JC tells Paulina that they will get married and move far away where they can be happy forever.

Dolores tells Karen that it is not true that she murdered Edgar. It is true she was accused and convicted of the murder but she didn’t do it.

Gabriel tells Regina that after Rogelio was born, the doctors told Eloisa, his wife, that she couldn’t have another child. They wanted a daughter so they adopted Paulina. Regina says that no one seeing Gabriel with Paulina would ever have guessed that she didn’t share his blood. Gabriel says that he has always treated all his children equally. He wants Paulina to be happy so he must tell her the truth.

Tiberio asks Demian if he knew that Dolores had murdered her brother, Karen’s father, and gone to prison for it. Demian says that he did know about that. Tiberio realizes that he and Karen are cousins and Demian chuckles and says that Dolores has been quite concerned about Tiberio getting together with Karen for that reason.

Belen is sitting on a bench in a park crying and wondering what she is going to do. A man with many grocery bags stops to rest at another bench and inadvertently leaves a bag of groceries behind. Belen runs after him and follows him to the Pozole restaurant. By one of those amazing coincidences, he is looking for help in the restaurant and immediately offers Belen the job.

Ingrid is hitting the bottle with anxiety about what would happen if the priest finds out that she and Miriam abandoned a baby at the church. Miriam tells her that she will resolve the problem today.

Paulina tells MA that she is going to get married. JC tells his mother how happy he is that Paulina has agreed to marry him.

Miriam goes to confession. She thinks it is Father Anselmo, the timid priest, but behind the curtain is Father Domingo. He gets Miriam to admit that she did abandon a child at the church. She doesn’t feel guilty about it either. Father Domingo is shocked and says that she isn’t worthy of knowing who her son is – he is a good person. Miriam says that she doesn’t care about what happened to the child and tells Father Domingo to leave her alone.

Dolores tells Regina that she was sent to prison for killing her brother – Joselyn’ first husband. Regina is impactada but Dolores assures her that she didn’t do it.

Back at the nuthouse, Joselyn says that Regina has gotten between the claws of the wild beast and she will be hurt for her meddling. Luisito has also betrayed her. [Doesn’t she get any treatment in this hospital?]

Regina tells Simona that JC and Paulina have reconciled. She gets out a truly ugly huge butterfly pin covered with diamonds. It is a family piece. She wants JC to give it to Paulina to seal their engagement.

Paulina tells Luisito that she and JC have reconciled and he is very happy. In prances Karen. Luisito passes on the good news about the engagement. Karen says that it is wonderful except for the incest. Luisito asks what she means and she explains it to him. Luisito looks at Paulina with hurt eyes.

In his house, Demian grabs Dolores. She says not to touch her. Demian wants to know where Regina is. Simona says that she went to the jeweler because JC and Paulina are engaged. Demian tells Dolores that JC and Paulina are cousins just like Karen and Tiberio.

MA goes to an interview for a teaching position.

Demian calls Paulina and tells her that he is opposed to the marriage. His family should not mix with her family and besides they are cousins.
