Episode 81:
* Padre talks with Ceci - he tells her to keep the faith, he will be visiting MC and plans to convince her to meet with Ceci.

* JM visits Blanca in jail. He explains the loves of his life and that she and he will have to be content with friendship.

* MC holds JM Jr. and tells him about his dad (she has a series of flashback memories of her life with JM).

* JM returns to the castle. He finds Rocio and Dr. in the garden. He walks over and asks Rocio what's wrong. She runs off without responding. Dr. explains that Vince broke up with Rocio and that he's now interested in dating Rocio.

* Vince is grunting and screaming with pain as the therapist works with him on the floor. Vince's mom and another lady are watching near by.

* Ceci returns home to stun Amador and Steffie with the news that she knows where MC is.

* MC is reading the paper. JM Jr. cries so she puts the paper down to pick him up. Cande enters with a little bottle of milk. MC feeds Jr. the bottle. Cande leaves. The blue blanket is on top of the paper.

* Ceci is so illusioned about finding the address of where MC is. She leaves to find Pat and tell him. Steffie tells Amador she needs to leave - Amador stays there. Steffie and Martirio leave.

* MC returns to reading the paper. As she reads the front and inside pages, Micaela sits down and spots the small article and photo on the back page of JM and crosses herself. MC wonders what happened. Micaela stutters an excuse and leaves the room.

* Steffie is at the door and listens as Ceci begs Pat to help her locate the hacienda where MC is. Pat reluctantly agrees - on the condition that he won't have to lose his dignity in any way. She agrees.

* Micaela runs into the kitchen where Cande is preparing a plate of food. Micaela tells Cande about the article she saw the paper on JM - Micaela is worried. Cande doesn't really believe her; Micaela convinces Cande to get the paper and read it for herself.

* MC is still reading the paper and JM Jr. plays in his crib. Cande and Micaela enter. Micaela stands behind MC as Cande tries to read the paper.

* Two detectives enter the private sitting room and talk with JM - they are their investigating a murder and are looking for Viviana - they stun JM with the fact that Viviana is a suspect in the murder.

* Cande pulls the paper away from MC - MC pulls it back. Micaela stands behind MC as Cande sits on the coffee table. MC and Cande continue to argue as Micaela tries to signal Cande about the paper she's sitting on.

* Detectives explain to JM the investigation in Spain about the shooting and the death and Viviana's involvement.

* Ceci finishes her conversation with Pat. He leaves. Steffie sits and grumbles about how is she ever going to keep MC from returning.

* In the front room, Pat returns. Ceci is anxious and wants to know what happened.

* MC stands up and talks with Micaela as Cande takes the papers. Cande and Micaela makes their excuses and leave the room with the section of the paper that Cande had been sitting on.

* JM can't believe the story the detectives told him about Viviana.

* In the kitchen, Micaela and Cande share a laugh about how Cande sat on the paper they wanted to read. They start to read the article about JM.

* In the office, Pat explains to Ceci in front of Steffie that the search will be long and hard because there's a lot of "Felipes" in Mexico, but he will proceed because it's so important to Ceci.

* Police and guards go to Blanca's cell. She puts on her shoes and leaves with them.

* Outside on the garden gazebo, Ceci desperately asks Pat for news about the search. Pat tells her that they've finally found the hacienda. It's in Pueblo San Felipe and the owner is Omar Contreras.

**** UNIVISION PROMO -- Fernandita chases a bus down the dirt road; Eduardito runs to the back window and waves to her. They hold their pendants. Ed (Fernando Colunga) looks down and holds his pendant on a ranch -- he's returned to his hometown. Manana Es Para Siempre - Muy Pronto on Univision. ****

* MC rocks JM Jr. in the living room. MC talks to him about how happy and scared she is, about what tomorrow may bring in the way of love and happiness and pain, which are all a part of life.

* Still outside in the gazebo, Pat and Ceci discuss whether Padre ever mentioned Omar Contreras to Ceci. Ceci says not that she can recall. They discuss Ceci wanting to go to the hacienda - she wants Pat to go with her. Pat refuses and suggests Steffie go with her.

* MC holds JM Jr. and remembers Adrian and JM. She thinks about calling JM just to hear his voice but talks herself out of it.

* At the table, Steffie joins Pat and Ceci. Ceci asks Steffie to go with her to visit MC at the hacienda. (UY!)

* Padre visits Vincent at the loft apartment. Padre apologizes for his absence - he was out of town for awhile. Then he stuns Vince with the news that MC is going to married soon.

* Becky meets with Rocio in the castle front hallway with the news about MC's wedding plans. JM enters and interrupts. He leaves - Becky whispers to Rocio how hot her brother is.

* Ceci and Steffie continue their conversation about driving to the hacienda.

* In the private sitting area, JM talks with Rocio about how will he be able to prove Blanca's insanity defense. Rocio then stuns JM with the news about MC's impending wedding. He asks her when will it happen? Rocio says soon. He asks who is the groom? She doesn't know exactly but supposes it's someone she met after leaving town. JM asks Rocio to leave him alone and starts to cry. He hopes that the new man in MC's life will make her happy. Rocio leaves. JM sits down and cries (his heart is breaking).

* JM Jr. is in his crib as Micaela and MC work in the kitchen. They discuss all the wedding plans and festivities and all the guests coming to the wedding.

* Ceci wonders if Steffie can go with her this afternoon, despite the long distance to drive. Steffie is stunned and stutters her excuses to try to convince Ceci to wait until morning. Pat agrees with Steffie. Ceci reluctantly accepts the delay. Steffie leaves. Ceci thanks Pat for his help and support.

* MC prays to herself.

* Steffie grumbles to herself about her plans to be with JM always being foiled - first by MC then by Blanca/Ivette and now by MC again. Steffie places a well-timed phone call to the castle - Nellie answers - Steffie tells her the shocking bad news; they have located MC.

* MC holds JM Jr. and thinks about Omar/Leopardo. She wonders where he is? Pancho brings in the newspaper and leaves. MC sits down with JM Jr. and begins to read the paper.

* Ceci is in a hurry this morning and climbs in the car as Steffie pulls up the driveway.

* MC reads the front page article about Blanca and JM being accused in the murder of his wife Viviana. She is horrified by the news and shouts and runs for Cande.

* In the kitchen, MC stops Cande from her work and shows her the article about Viviana's death and JM being a suspect.

* Rocio brings a cup of coffee to JM in his sitting room. He's still stunned by the news of MC's marriage plans.

* MC talks with Cande about the article and how impactado she is over JM's involvement. Cande has to explain that she knew - that Micaela and Padre also knew. MC is furious that they didn't tell her for weeks about this. Cande explains their reasons.

* JM talks with Rocio about the detectives from Spain searching for Viv, who is a suspect in a murder in Spain. Rocio suspects that Viv's death may somehow be karma catching up to her.

* MC and Cande argue about JM being accused of murder. Cande tries to reason with her about Blanca's involvement and being a suspect. MC has decided that JM is totally innocent.

* In the car, Steffie and Ceci talk on the drive out to Pueblo San Felipe.

* JM Jr. is playing in his crib. MC sits on the bed, reading the article. Cande enters. MC wants to return to Mexico City, to be there to support JM. Cande can't believe her ears and tries to talk MC out of the idea. MC argues that she has to go to support JM. Cande uses every argument she can think of against the idea. MC wants to be there for JM - moral support. Cande argues against it. JM Jr. starts to cry. MC is determined to leave - she still loves JM. Cande finally spouts "and what about Leopardo?"

ADVANCE: Omar is returning home -- MC, Cande and JM Jr. are leaving the hacienda.

Doña Bárbara - Fri. Jan. 16 & Mon. Jan. 19 - Paybacks are a b*tch with the Doña

Santos tells DB that she made a promise. The time to make good on it has come. DB asks whether Santos planned to get her drunk and have her sign the document without reading it. Santos says that is her way of doing things. Didn't she take the hacienda from Lorenzo that way? Santos tells DB that he only had the document prepared to be ready for Marisela's birthday. He gives the document to DB and tells her to read it. It wasn't a good idea for Santos to mention Marisela because DB goes on off on how Santos only cares about Marisela. She crumples up the document and throws it on the floor.

Lorenzo tells Antonio that there is nothing but friendship between them. He says that he won't be around much longer and he doesn't want Cecilia to be alone. Antonio says that he isn't going to hang around wishing for Lorenzo to die.

Antonio quits his job with Don Encarnación. He is going to lead the rebels over the border and keep on going.

Santos and DB have several terrible battles about DB giving El Miedo to Marisela and Santos basically tells DB that it is over between them.

Desperate to keep Santos, DB came to see Marisela and told her that it was time to pay the debt that she owes DB for what happened with Meléndez. DB tells Marisela that she just has to make a small sacrifice. We don't know what DB wants Marisela to do but whatever it is makes her terribly unhappy.

DB gives the signed property transfer deed to Santos. He is impactado.

Monday -

Santos is as happy as a 6-year old with a lollipop that DB has signed the property transfer. That night, he asks her to marry him. Apparently he carries his mother's engagement ring around with him because when DB wakes up the next morning, he is putting it on her finger. DB being triumphant and happy when we know it is at Marisela's expense is hard to take.

Marisela confesses to Father Pernia about killing Meléndez and he absolves her of guilt and tells her to pray for Meléndez' salvation. Marisela apparently also confesses what DB has asked her to do. The priest says that it is wrong and that Santos will never be happy with DB.

DB tells her staff that Marisela is going to be the new owner of La Barquereña. This news travels to the Altamira vaqueros. Santos cheerily tells them that it won't make any difference at all but they aren't so sure.

Marisela rips up the dress that her mother bought her to wear at her birthday party.

Lorenzo is going around talking about the ephemeral nature of life to flowers and saying things like: I will die in the spring. So I guess we know the end is near.

DB and Santos come and wake Marisela up on her birthday and DB gives her the property transfer document.

Doña Bárbara - Thurs., Jan. 15- Two more terneras tie the knot; DB reverts to her nasty self

In San Fernando, DB takes advantage of her new relationship with Marisela to push Gonzalo's charms on her really hard.

Santos is annoyed that the rebels aren't leaving town until after Marisela's birthday party.

DB is also using her trip to San Fernando to get the documents she found at Danger's house translated. The translator tells her that the document is a soil analysis and that there may be oil on the property.

Pernalete finds the property transfer document Mujiquita drafted. He wants to know if it is prejudicial to DB.

The terneras get married to the rebels.

Gonzalo tries to kiss Marisela but she pulls away, saying, "you're not.. you're not.." DB is watching. She confronts Marisela and and the mask of the nice mother comes off. She tells Marisela not to call her, 'mama.' She accuses Marisela of wanting to steal Santos from her. When Marisela denies this, DB reminds of what Marisela said when she thought DB was dying. DB swears that Marisela will never take Santos from her. DB tells Marisela that she uses her tears to manipulate everyone but not DB. "Keep away from my man," says DB, "because if you don't, you will find out who I am." "I already know," replies Marisela, "I've known since I was a little girl." "No," says DB, "You haven't seen anything. You still don't know me. You don't know my hate."

DB returns to El Miedo from the wedding in a foul mood.

Santos finds Marisela crying. She says that she can't stand the pain of loving him when he is DB's man.

DB tells Eustaquia that she tried to care about Marisela but if Marisela keeps trying to take her man, she will kill her. She swears it. Pernalete comes in and drops that bomb of the property transfer document on her. DB pretends that she knew about it already. When Pernalete has gone, DB calls Santos a traitor.

When Santos returns to El Miedo, DB calls him a traitor who went behind her back. She says that she will never give her hacienda to Marisela without a fight. "I will keep what is mine! (Me quedo con lo mío)."

Cuidado: Friday 1/16/09 "Juan Miguel wants to cure Blanca and proves once again how incredibly stupid he really is"

Cande comments on the sadness that crosses Marichuy’s face when she looks at the baby. She questions MC’s reasons for agreeing to marry Leo. Is it because she is merely grateful to Leo? Mc assures her that isn’t the only reason, she admits that her heart is hurting. Her true love betrayed her and she’s living with the memories. She tells Cande that she needs to work on separating Juan Miguel from her feelings. She assures Cande that she will open her heart to Leo and that she’s going to be happy. Leo is the only man that will be able to help her pull Juanmi out of her heart. JM is living his life with his wife and MC will go on living hers with Leo.

Meanwhile, Juanmi is having a conversation with Rocío about his visit with Blanca. Rocío feels terrible for Blanca. Juanmi tells his sister that he intends to cure Blanca and then marry her (OMG, this man is stupid, no ifs ands or buts about it. Just when I think it isn’t possible for him to come up with another knuckle-brain idea - he proves me wrong. What purpose is there in marrying her? OK other than to put an obstacle in the way of our two star-crossed lovers). Rocío is surprised to hear this (as we all were) and she asks him if it is for love or pity. He says that his one true love was MC, but what he feels for Blanca is a sincere desire to help her and he feels he can dedicate his life to curing her and making her happy. Rocío comments on how JM will be entering into another loveless marriage (excellent point). He assures her that it is different, Blanca is a sensitive caring woman, who will make a good mother for Mayita. Rocío asks, “what about Marichuy?” JM says that all their ties are broken, it was an impossible relationship. You could start anew, his sister encourages. How he wishes that could happen, but their fate was decided long ago and now he’ll dedicate himself to helping Blanca and getting MC out of his heart. He loved one time with passion and craziness, this time it will be different, but he’ll make it work.

Cande asks MC if she believes she can be happy. MC says that her baby needs a home and a father and here at the hacienda he can have both. She’s going to let go of her impossible dreams of being with JM and throw herself into a future with Leo.

Elsa gives Nelson a new shirt. He’s delighted. He asks her for writing materials. He’s feeling inspired to write again ( I don't think it was the shirt that inspired him, perhaps it is living with her parents and not having any grown-up responsiblities).

Mercedes visits Rocío, who worries that she's come to say that something is wrong with Vicente. Mercedes assures her that isn’t the case, she’s there because she wants to know what Rocío’s future plans are with Vicente. Does Rocío want to continue seeing him? Or does she want her freedom in order to pursue a “normal” life.

Cande tells MC that no matter what she says, it is obvious she hasn’t forgotten Juanmi. MC says that she has a right to keep what is hers, but whatever happens, she intends to marry Leo.

Rocío questions why Mercedes is asking her this. She’s never thought of abandoning Vicente. She does go on to admit that it hurts her that she’s done all she can to make things better, but he’s just turned his back on life. He’s locked himself in his studio, refuses to seek any further treatment. She asks what he’s done to fight for their relationship. She’s willing to stick by him, no matter what his long term prognosis will be, but he’s just given up. Mercedes says she can see that Rocío still cares for him and they hug.

Leo walks along the river and thinks of MC and how he’s letting go of his past and embracing happiness. He’s got hope for the future.

Blanca’s lawyer visits her in the jail and tells her that they’ve got to find someone from before who can testify that she’s got this multiple personality condition. She remembers that there was a doctor in Ivette’s life, a Doctor Omar Somebody. She can’t remember his last name. The lawyer presses, does she know where Ivette knew him? Blanca says somewhere out of the country, she supposes France. We have to find him, the lawyer says.

JM visits Vicente, per Vic’s request. He tells Dr. San Roman that he intends to start treatment and hopes his paralysis will be cured. JM asks why the change and Vic says that he’s afraid of losing Rocío. JM says he’ll get him in touch with some specialists, but that it is going to take some time for Vic to get better. Vic isn’t willing to give up, and JM tells him he’s proud of him for deciding to work at getting better.

Leo flirts with MC as she gathers eggs. He tells her that he could become jealous of all the attention she gives elsewhere. He questions what it will be like when they have four or five more kids. He flirts a bit more and then tells her that everything is falling into place for their wedding. They just need to get her papers. MC appears shocked at this latest development. Leo says he can have his lawyer gather the necessary paperwork, but MC says she’ll get Padre Anselmo on it. Leo then says that he’d love to recognize the baby as his own son. This seems to shock MC even more.

Rocío is getting her final check up from the plastic surgeon. Humberto feels the mended areas of her face and then he swoops down for a kiss. She is shocked and tells him that they never should see each other again. He doesn’t understand, he loves her. She reminds him that she’s with Vicente and that she intends to marry him. Humberto tells her that Vic isn’t worthy of her and he’s just accepted his lot and is basically useless. Rocío defends Vic and tells Humberto she never wants to see him again. He says that he can provide her with a “normal” life and she doesn’t deserve to be stuck with Vicente.

Leo questions if MC wants him to be her baby’s father. She didn’t answer him. She says she didn’t say anything, but she didn’t say no either. Leo questions if she’ll tell the real father and MC says that Leo will be the only father her son will know, and that she knows he’ll treat the baby like he’s his own flesh and blood.

Blanca’s lawyer talks to JM and mentions Dr. Omar. JM says that they’ll have to find this guy.

Leo gets a telegram and tells MC that he’s got to go out of town for a few days for work. His being gone, however, shouldn’t hold up their plans for the wedding.

Rocío goes to visit Vicente the next day. He tells her he wants to end it and that she should leave (so what happened to him fearing that he was going to lose Rocío?).

At the Velardes, Patricio is reading the newspaper and comes across an article about Blanca and how the press speculates that JM is her accomplice, that Viv's death was an elaborate plot of theirs. Both Ceci and Stefi say no way. Stefi tells them that Blanca really suffers from multiple personalities and the JM wants to help her. Pat says the article speculates that the two of them will be getting married if she ends up cleared of the charges. Stefi says that can’t be. Ceci says that if JM ends up marrying Blanca she’s sure it will be for valid reasons, not because he’s in cahoots with her. Pat says this whole mess has made him lose confidence in JM.

Rocío goes home and cries on JM’s shoulder about Vicente breaking up with her. She feels it is all her fault, because she’s gone out with Humberto a few times and the things that she said to Becki.

Another doctor pays a house call to Vicente. He runs a series of “field” tests and tells Vicente that there is hope. It would have been better if he sought treatment right away after the accident, but they still can make some improvements. It’s not going to be easy, but Vicente is encouraged by the doctor’s words.

Stefi goes to visit Isa and tells her what’s being said in the papers about Juanmi and Blanca. Isa questions if JM and Blanca are lovers. No way, says Stefi, but she doesn’t look entirely convinced of her words. Stefi decides she needs to do whatever to make sure that Blanca remains in jail.

Mica tells Marichuy that she’s excited about the marriage and that Omar’s finally found some happiness. MC says she’s sent word to PA that she needs her papers.

Ceci visits PA and asks if there is any news on MC. None he says, but then he receives a telegram. He lets Ceci know it is from MC, but refuses to let her read it when she asks. He takes a phone call and Ceci is able to see part of the telegram, which he set down on the desk. She’s able to make out "San Felipe" and "Hacienda Escondida" from the portion of the telegram she can see. She questions PA to when MC will be coming back. He says that after reading the telegram, he thinks never. This upsets Ceci imensely.

Blanca tells JM (who’s visiting her in jail) that everyone thinks she’s guilty and they are all against her. JM tells her that it doesn’t matter what the rest of the world thinks. She says it only matters to her what he thinks. JM asks her if she’d be willing to get married. She wants to know why he asked, is it because he feels pity or some sort of obligation toward her? He holds her hand and says that it is their destiny to be together because it is as if they’ve known each other in a different time, a time when pirates ran amok in Mexico….she was the rich man’s whore-of-a-daughter and he was just the son of the lowly miller looking for a quick lay…..OK, just me thinking that, as I has a Pasión flashback. Actually he tells her that it is affection he feels. He goes on to tell her that he loved someone passionately and lost her, he thinks she’s had similar heartbreak in her life. Now he needs to feel hope for something and he believes that the two of them will be able to fill their empty lives and together find happiness. Blanca swallows up his words.

PA tells Ceci that although MC will most likely not return, he believes that very soon Ceci will be seeing her daughter. Ceci questions the good priest’s riddle, but PA just tells her to have faith, he thinks that perhaps now Marichuy will be able to understand the pain that Ceci had in having to give up her child and be willing to meet with her.

Marichuy thinks of JM and their happier times. END OF EPISODE

Fuego en la Sangre, 01/16/09: Down and Out in Cd. Serdán, Or Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner

Capítulo 177

We begin at the Hacienda of the Horribly Horrified, The Mortified Martyred, and The Eternally Mystified as a very teary and bleary-eyed Snowed-fia thinks back to the scene of the supposedly ruttin’ Root and her bare-nekkid bazoombas hovering in the sheets over Juan’s cadaveric hulk as she's caught in the aftermath of “their” despicable act. (Of course, those of us in Viewerville with triple digit I.Q.’s want to know why it never crossed Slowfia’s mind that Juan couldn’t possibly have had time for a quickie, let alone a cigarillo and much less a heavy-duty nap afterward, especially with all that damned noise going on downstairs. Viewerville then quickly realizes the error of its ways and that it’s forgotten what complete mental midgets this generation of Elizondos is. Tsk. Tsk.) Sofia clings to her wedding dress and daydreams of the wedding that never was. “Why-oh-why did you cheat on me, Juan?”

Said culprit is now over at the church complaining to the diosito that it’s not fair and that he doesn’t deserve being duped like this. Padre Tadeo sees Juan at the altar and kneels beside him. “I swear I’m innocent! I’m innocent!” Juan tells the padre that as hard as he tries he just can’t explain it; and he has no idea how it happened. He can’t deny what Sofia saw with her own eyes, but he’s certain he didn’t fool around with Root-oh-Rutter. He couldn’t and wouldn’t put a finger on any woman other than Sofia. Pad Tad says he believes him and that if Juan allows him to, he’ll talk to Sofia for him and try to convince her to listen to Juan’s side of things. Together they pray for the diosito’s guidance and help.

In the meantime, Eva tries to convince Sofia that she needs to listen to Juan’s explanation, but Sofia refuses to even allow his name to be mentioned in the house again. Eva says she feels rotten because it was her very own daughter, Root, who did this to Sofia. “Root enjoys hurting others. She’s more evil than I ever imagined.” Sofia says she doesn’t blame Eva for anything Root does. Anyway, she wants nothing more to do with Juan. He would only lie to her and she’s done with that. It’s better they both go their separate ways.(At this point I’m sort of having second thoughts about that “couple of prissies” thing. Hate to say it, but Feo was on to something.)

Franco and Oscar, meanwhile, agree to ask Jimena and Sarita for their help in getting Juan and Sofia back together and they head off to town.

At Bungalow del Bruto, Darth Rico can’t help thinking about Soledad, the one who got away. He remembers his discussion with Gabi when she told him Soledad was alive and had come to threaten her about the past catching up with them, and that Soledad had a son who was now their sworn enemy. Darth thinks to himself that he has never stopped thinking of her and he wonders who the lucky S.O.B. was that won her heart and gave her a son. If he only knew where to find her….”Ah, Soledad!”

At Casa Coyote, somewhere hidden in the hills, said son is thinking about getting hold of those papers Darth told Raqui about. El Coyote figures they have to be something pretty important and that having them would give him a weapon to use against the guy. Raqui sits down for a chat with him. She tells him she considers him to be a quiet and reserved man who seems tough on the outside but who is really a kind-hearted soul. He tells her he’s capable of doing the worst sorts of things to survive and to support his mother. Then he explains his hatred for Darth is a result of the way he abandoned his mother years ago. It’s not just that she was blinded, but how his mother suffered and cried for so many years because of that man. It used to break his heart to hear her crying in the middle of the night. That’s why he and Gabriela are going to be made to pay for all the hurt they caused the two of them.

Coyote changes the subject now and asks Raqui for permission to ask Juan about why he’s been looking for him. He’s certain it has something to do with those papers Rico is so interested in. Raqui has no objection to his talking to Juan Reyes and says she’s just as interested in finding out what's in those papers.

Eva returns to the Double R (Hacienda de los Robles-Reyes) where Juan is still crying over Sofia’s dumping him. (Now, I hate to see a grown man cry, and it’s true he got rooked by that babe, Root, but even accounting for cultural differences south of the border, enough already! Enough with the Mikey Milk-toast crying and ALL that gawd-awful snot running down his and everybody’s nose and especially those hairy whiskers! Blech! –And speaking of whiskers, has Juan given up razor blades again for Lent or what?) Eva says she did everything she could think of but Sofia wants nothing more to do with him. Juan is adamant about Sofia hearing him out. If she won’t do it willingly, then he’s got another way, but he’d rather not.

Oscar and Franco show up a while later at Trinkets R Us and ask Jimena and Sarita to help them find a way to get Sofia to listen to Juan. Jimena sniffs and snarls, but Oscar reminds her that everybody should get a chance to tell their side of things before they’re judged and sentenced.

At the same time, Padre Tadeo shows up at the Double E (Hacienda de las Elizondo y del estorbo ése, Escandon) to intercede for Juan so that he can explain his side of things. Sofia refuses to listen and says what she saw doesn’t need any explanation. Furthermore, if Pad Tad comes back again to talk to her about Juan she’ll refuse to see him.

Back at Trinkets, Jimena throws Oscar’s little sextacular slip-up with Marahoochie-coochi in his face and tells him he’s the last one who should be coming and asking for their help with Don-Juan Reyes. Oscar reminds her that as soon as he realized what had happened, because he didn’t want to lose her he came and told Jimena right away, to her face no less, and that he was never dishonest with her about it. Then Oscar throws Jimena’s flirtations with Octavio and Roman right back at her. Besides, he adds, Juan wasn’t unfaithful to Sofia. Root set a trap for him.

Jimena doesn’t believe it. Sarita and Franco come at her over it and she lights into Franco for fooling around with Rosario and going after Sarita at the same time while supposedly being unable to decide between the two of them. “Puh-leeze! You’re all three cut from the same cloth!” [literally, “cut with the same scissors ”] She tells them she’s done with them and is going to be leaving town right away anyway, so the heck with them or what they think about her. Oscar and Franco had better leave unless they want to hear the rest of what she has to say and, BTW, don’t expect any help with Sofia from her. What’s more she’s got a mind to suggest to Sofia not to ever listen to Juan again and she’ll tell her not to let Juan ever see his little girls again, either! Oscar loses it here and he grabs Jimena by the arms and pulls her down to chair level with him. He warns her that she better get it straight that he will NOT allow her to mess with his daughters. “Got it?” Loud and clear. Jimena finally shuts her pie-hole.

Darth is out with his horse in the back forty somewhere and still thinking about Soledad. He stops to remember the two of them together: bright sun, birds singing, holding hands and, The Kiss. (Note to Hairdressing: not so heavy on the Hair For Men next time. You’ve got Darth looking like Gomez Addams. Definitely a case of what’s hot and what’s NOT.) “It seems like yesterday…..” Darth reminisces. “There’s not a doubt that she’s the only woman I ever loved in my life and for her I’d have been willing to cede everything. Everything!” He’s lost in thought when El Coyote walks up from behind and starts talking. It gives him a start and he immediately and instinctively pulls a gun on Coyote. Coyote, the essence of sexy-cool, apologizes for startling him and asks what Darth was so lost in thought over. Rico puts away the gun. “Happier times than these, that’s for sure!” They make small talk about his leg and then Coyote tells Darth that he seems to be a man of few words, but he noticed him smiling and relaxed. He wonders who or what DV was thinking of. Darth looks him in the eyes but says nary a word.

Out back of the store Franco tries talking Sarita into helping him and Oscar with Sofia since Juan and she have already suffered enough. Sarita refuses and he calls her stubborn and says that she’s as idiotic as Jimena. She needs to open her eyes and realize Juan was tricked. Kicking and spanking ensue. He gripes that she kicks him at the slightest provocation. She tells him to stop with the spanking and he says she needs to stop with the kicking. They go at it like this for a while – like a broken record. (Does anybody even know what a record is anymore? A scratched CD just doesn’t sound right.) Viewerville is just about ready to FF>> through this kindergarten crapola when Franco says, “What? Would you rather I massage you?” (Me thinks she would.) Franco finally persuades her by saying they can’t let this problem destroy their relationship too. Sarita gives in. They kiss and make up (and well, watching Franco and Sarita making up is always better than watching their stupid fights.)

Darth tells Coyote he’s a lot like Darth was when he was younger. He likes him, and since they seem to have something in common, he’ll tell him. He was thinking of a woman from his past, the woman that he loved most in his life. Coyote asks if he means Gabi, but he says nope. Then perhaps he means Raqui, his daughter Root’s mama? Rico sniffs in disgust. Coyote asks cautiously if he has a son. Darth confesses he’d have given everything he is and has to have had a son but he never managed it, but especially to have had a son with the woman he loved and has never forgotten. Coyote asks her name. “Soledad. Her name is Soledad.” (This isn’t looking good for Coyote’s plans for venganza. Not at all.) Coyote is take-two-steps-back-and-rethink-that-revenge-idea impactado.

Back at Casa de Coyote, Soledad remembers Raqui telling Coyote that Sofia is not Gabi’s daughter but actually Eva’s and also that Raqui asked him not to say anything to anybody for Sofia’s sake. She remembers how kind she was to her after Gabi threw her out of the hacienda. Soledad decides that Sofia is too good a person to suffer any longer taking guff off Gabi because she mistakenly believes the witch is her mother. She plans to find Sofia and tell her the truth as soon as possible.

Sofia, meanwhile, (signature hands to head) is back in her room replaying the scenario of Root in bed with Juan and laughing at her. Root comes sauntering in now to pester her. “Aren’t you ever getting married?” “—Get out of my room!” Root ignores her and says, just as well she found out now. It would have been worse to find out once she was already married. “I did it for you. Although, I have to admit that Juan is …Ayyyy! (sigh)—such an excellent lover. Nobody like him to make you feel like a real woman! ” Sofia gets up and smacks Root a good one hard across her slutty face. (Was it as good for you as it was for me?) Root laughs at her and says it doesn’t matter ‘cause she finally got Sofia back. Sofia says she and her little girls will do just fine, thank you very much, but the one who ought to look out for herself is Root. She told Mama what Root’s been up to. No, she didn’t give any details, but she managed to plant that doubt and knowing Mama, she won’t stop till she finds out exactly what Sofia really meant to say.

Root is stopped-in-her-tracks impactada. Sofia tells her that that’s not all. Root should remember that Sofia knows her daddy’s little secret and as soon as she decides to, she’ll turn him in. Root says she wouldn’t dare because she’d be risking her mother’s life also. Sofia says sure she’d dare and she will destroy her father and let God deal with the rest. (Hope she means it this time.)

Across the way at the Double R, Juan is still moping in the kitchen and remembering the way Sofia broke it off with him. Juan finally grabs the remaining shreds of his masculinity and tells himself that he’s had enough. (Haven’t we all by now.) No, it’s not over, not by a long shot. Sofia will have to listen to him if it’s the last thing he ever does. (“Ha! Hold my brain. Be still my beating heart.”)

Feo stops in at the church and confesses his “latest achievement” to Padre Tadeo, that he drugged Juan to avoid Sofia’s marrying him. He planned it all. Tadeo tells him he is wretched. “Wretched is the life that Juan and Sofia will have from now on, little priest.” He bangs on the confessional wall for emphasis and to make sure the padre is listening. “Now you know that I was the one responsible and I’ll be back without fail to tell you about the next one. Could be pretty soon. Perhaps Fermin, that poor guy at the jail, might have an accident. At least he’d have that mouth shut. SHUT!” Feo takes a puff of his cheroot and then arrogantly struts away. Pad Tad’s been duped into silence again.

Root runs into the bungalow, meanwhile, to tell her daddy the latest. “Sofia is planning to turn you in for murdering the Reyes’ parents.” Darth (who must have taken Sofia’s wardrobe concerns to heart because he’s taken off that snake belt) says no way because Gabi would be involved and if he goes to jail, Gabi would go also. Root says even so, they can’t trust in that especially if Sofia finds out that Gabi really is not her mother. Darth says perhaps she’s right and so they need to think about Sofia’s weak points: her daughters and her sisters. He hands Root the belt for safekeeping. Suddenly Root is all smiles again.
======================

Night falls and the full moon rises. In the store, Jimena lies down in her cot and thinks back to the argument she and Oscar had earlier that day. She decides that there’s nothing left to their relationship now but hate and hostility.

At the Double E, Sofia has locked her balcony windows and is getting ready for bed. Juan jumps onto the balcony and begs her to let him in to explain things. She refuses and tells him again that it’s over between them and she wants nothing more to do with him.
=============

The next morning Sofia is walking down the main stairway when Juan comes walking into the hacienda with a laundry bag over his shoulder. (Yeah, we know. No man’s man would ever be caught dead with a piddly roller bag, now would he?) She lights into him. Gabi angrily flies in on her Ever-Reddy broomstick she keeps parked in her office and screams at him to tell her just what he thinks he’s doing in her hacienda. Practical Fer just wants to know what he’s carrying in the bag. Juan says it’s full of his things. From this moment on he’s going to live in the house which, after all is part his too. Everybody stares at him with their mouths open.

Juan tells Sofia that since she refuses to listen to him he’s decided to come live there at the hacienda until she gives him the opportunity to explain what really happened. He’s there and plans to stay whether they like it or not. They are not believing what they are seeing. Sofia says he can’t be serious, but Juan says of course he is. She says he can’t because…because it would be as if he’s torturing her. He should just give up and leave her in peace, but he says he won’t, especially not now. Gabi says enough of his hypocrisy. Juan Reyes is just like his father. Juan says he certainly is. He’s a one-woman man just like his daddy and THAT’S why his daddy rejected her. Feo quickly remembers to jump to Gabi’s defense and tells Juan he can’t talk to his wife like that. Why can’t he just leave them all in peace and just….die or something? Juan says sorry to disappoint the snake, but he’s living there until Sofia gives him the chance to explain. He grabs his bag and jangles noisily up the stairs into Root’s room.

Gabi lights into Sofia and complains that it’s all her fault they’ve got to put up with this humiliation. So, Sofia better find a way to get that imbecile out of her house immediately if not sooner.

At the Double R during another therapy session, Franco tells Oscar he thinks what Juan’s doing is crazy because he’s heading right into the wolf’s den. Oscar says he thinks Juan knows exactly what he’s doing and that it will work. The one who should be careful, he says, is Doña Gabriela.

Back at the Double E, all hell breaks loose as Juan runs Root out of her old room and throws her clothes out after her. Sofia tells Mama not to blame her cuz she wasn't the one who sold Juan his portion of the hacienda. Grampa Augie did, so go complain to him, not her. Root whines to Gabi about how she could just let Juan run her off to the bungalow like that. Sofia says yep, Juan’s definitely run her off, and as far as she’s concerned she’s happy that finally somebody got her out of the place.

Sofia heads upstairs to Sarita’s room and tells her sister that she can’t believe Juan’s impudence. Once Sarita finds out what’s happening and that Juan ran Root off she tells Sofia to realize that if Juan really wanted to be with Root he’d have never run her out. Sofia is like “don’t confuse me with facts. I know what I know.”

Downstairs Gabi has run into her office to escape. Root follows her in and bitches that, as her mother, Gabi should have defended her but didn’t. Gabi tells her to keep it down or the others might hear. “What’s it to me? Let them! They should all find out right now that I am your daughter! --Oh-h-h! you’re ashamed of me, right?” Gabi tells her not to be ridiculous, that she knows very well it’s still not the right time to tell them. Root says Gabi is a big disappointment and that she thought she was tougher, different from other women, but she lives in fear of everbody here. She’s just the same as Raquel, just exactly the same! Gabi gets angry and tells her that it’s a matter of winning by keeping a cool head and now is not the right time to confront Juan. “You forget that Sofia knows Ricardo’s secret. Would you rather risk your father’s going to jail, or worse, that Juan finds out and kills him? Is that what you want? To see your father destroyed?”

Over at the bungalow, DV is playing with his Big-Boys gutting knife when Tio V.O. walks in on him. (Again with the wide open doors –and will somebody please get this little guy a stool and change the camera angles? This is so degrading. He’s supposed to be one of the good guys. I mean how do you manage macho from a munchkin? As it is, the poor guy’s a walking oxymoron.) Tio warns Darth that he knows what’s what and that Rico murdered his brother and SIL. DV plays dumb, but Tio says he’s not buying what DV’s got to sell. The only reason he hasn’t gone to the authorities yet isn’t because he’s a coward or frightened of him, but to spare his nephews and to put the brakes on vengeance and the blood that would be spilled. Now, though, that Juan’s living in the hacienda, he’s come to warn Darth and to tell him to his face that if anything happens to Juan he’ll go straight to the authorities and turn Darth in himself. “The time’s coming for you and Gabriela to pay for your wicked ways. You’ve been warned.” Tio bravely turns his back on DV and walks out.

Gabi, meanwhile, is painting another one in her group of “Night Gallery Garish” while telling Fernando that he’s got to kill Juan. He’s got to get him out of the house whatever way he can and get rid of him for good. Feo says it’s not the best time since, if anything should happen to Juan just now, they’d be the first ones suspected. Sure he hates Juan, too, more than she does, but it’s a fool’s errand right now. Gabi sees she has to change tactics. “You’re stronger and smarter than he is.” She sits on the bed and starts her seduction. (Ok--but by pulling off his boots and massaging his feet? Wouldn’t other parts of his anatomy be more to the point –and don’t pardon the pun.) “This is the time to show me that you love me. Show me that for me you’re capable of everything. Kill him. Kill Juan Reyes!”

For the umpteenth time tonight, Sofia does a mental rewind of the rutting Root scene in her head. “If Juan thinks that setting up house here will get me to forgive him, he’s mistaken!”

Juan is across the hall and pacing back and forth in Feo’s/Root's old bedroom. “Will you just look! Such elegance and luxury!” He glances over at the safe. “Such riches! –Still, though it’s a golden cage.” One look in the mirror shows him what an out of place bumpkin he is. He goes to the balcony then and stares out as he remembers begging Sofia to listen to him and her telling him to forget it, that what they had was finished and done with. This time he won’t be leaving, though, he tells himself. She’ll have to see his smiling face 24/7 and he’s not giving in or giving up, not till she at least listens to him and realizes he’s completely innocent, that he loves her and will for the rest of his life. He smiles at himself. Yep. He’s going to fight to the end. “Ha! As if I wouldn’t!”

Tontas no Van #31 Friday 1/16 Sweet and Sour Relationships

First, we reprise some scenes from last time. Candy is telling Ceci that finally, no one left a flower. Ceci wonders whether Candy knows who was sending them. Candy is sure it was Dr. Plástico, and yes, he’s engaged to Marissa, that’s why he was sending the flowers secretly. But don’t say anything, because Candy doesn’t want any trouble with Marissa. Ceci agrees, while Bárbara smiles knowingly in the background.

Then we have the scene where Chava tells Gregoria he loves her, after which she tells him his father’s name was Patricio.

Then back to the Institute, where Marissa, knowing Candy is coming, gets Santi (on the phone) to tell her how much he loves her. Santi isn’t really paying attention, as he’s working on his computer at the same time, but Marissa has him on speaker, knowing Candy will hear the whole thing. Candy, upset, comes in, needing the phone (it’s the office phone). Marissa hangs up, and while giving the phone to Candy, gets in a few more digs, saying last night with Santi was romantic, she doesn’t know what she’d do without Santi, he drives her crazy, etc.

As Marissa leaves, Candy calls her Tío Meño, who is still at Santi’s house, and says I guess it’s about time we return to our house. Meño says sure, since you must know about the trick Santi played (with the rats/hamsters). What!! Well, Candy didn’t know, but now she forces loose lips Tio to tell her.

Lulu, kerchief on head, is whipping up something (egg whites or whipped cream, I think), teaching three eager Institute students that sometimes the best recipe is no recipe, just be creative. Free associating, she continues on, saying that the most important person to make happy is the king of the house, your man. And by the way, how did you gals meet your soulmates, were they your boss, your friend, your neighbor? Student No. 1 says her husband was her neighbor. Ah, your neighbor, well, ummm, just excuse me for a minute, but keep beating, I’ll be right back (as she goes to see if her new lover is closer than she thought).

In the ladies room, Bárbara is telling Ceci that Bárbara drinks at least two liters of water a day, it’s great for the skin. Ceci doesn’t care about her skin too much. Bárbara insults her a little, saying Ceci’s skin can look a little like parchment! (pergamino), and Ceci shoots back that it’s easy to criticize others instead of worrying about one’s own problems. Nosy Barb ignores this, and asks if Ceci has a family. Yes, Ceci has her parents, and well, they assembled (armaron) the perfect husband for her, engineer, just graduated, and Ceci almost went along with it, but as the wedding approached, she had to tell the guy what she didn’t feel for men, and what she did feel for women. Uh oh. The guy was PO’ed, he yelled it to the four winds, and Ceci’s folks kicked her out of the house. She came to Guadalajara. She had a girlfriend, but it didn’t last. Now she’s pretty lonely. Ceci then worries that Barb will blab this gossip, but Barb says out of professional ethics, this time, her lips are sealed (yeah, we’ll see about that). Ceci is glad, saying that Barb may be a gossip, but she’s honest (I’m not so sure).

Lulu is on a mission. Eggbeater in hand, she breezes past Meño, declining his offer of salsa lessons, and zips over to Santiago’s office, where she’s stopped by Hortensia. With the info about one’s neighbor being a possible lover fresh in mind, Lulu asks what kind of woman Dr. Plástico might like. Is he hiding a secret love? Hort says you must have been sent by Candy, tell her to forget about it. From down the hall, Santiago yells out “Lourdes!, pushes away an enhanced blonde, Lulu runs to him, they passionately kiss, ring the bell and….oh, it was a dream. Back in reality, Santi’s not pushing away the enhanced blonde, and Lulu excuses herself, saying that at least she tried with the most handsome guy as her first choice. Hortensia and Leti (the other assistant) glare at her as she leaves.

Beto and Chava are joyfully playing video fútbol. Soledad tells Candy that Pat gave Beto the game, and the kids start playing as soon as they get home from school. Candy says it’s better to play outdoors in the fresh air, and besides, let’s go now, we’re late for the game. Soledad says sorry, but Pat’s going to be there. In fact, he’ll always be there, because the kids wanted Pat and Santiago as their coaches. Candy does not want to miss this game, even if she has to go in disguise. Suegrita the insensitive one then pipes up, asking if Candy knew Chava wet the bed last night. Beto laughs and makes fun of Chava, but Candy and Soledad use this as a teaching moment. Everyone has accidents. Remember what happened at school last month? chides Soledad. Beto’s not laughin’ anymore. Candy tells them that when a friend has an accident, you should support him. Lesson learned, it’s back to the video game. Gol!

Friendless Pat wants a new buddy, and has come to visit Santi. Pat’s in tee shirt and sweats. Santi thinks it’s a business visit, and informs Pat he could easily fix Pat’s nose! No, Pat’s okay with the nose, he lives with it, but that’s not why he came. For your wife’s surgery? No, Pat came for the soccer game, because the boys want Pat and Santi to be their coaches, they’ll both be team America, and Santi can chuck that lousy Chivas jersey. Santi’s excited for a few seconds, then remembers the complications, and begs off, first saying he doesn’t have a son in the game, then saying he has a lift and a few surgeries scheduled. Pat understands, but adds that he doesn’t have too many friends, and Santi’s a cool guy, maybe they can have another dinner, not like the disaster from the other night. He walks out, happy about a new friend, and playfully rings the bell (unaware of what it means). Santi quickly motions to Hortensia to ignore that, even as Pat rings it again, and Santi again frantically yells that it’s nothing.

Still frantic, Santi rushes back into the office and calls Candy, telling her not to go the game, since her widower will be there! Candy tells Soledad, who responds that she already told Candy about this. Meanwhile, Gregoria is combing Chava’s hair, and Chava’s resisting, since he’s going to play fútbol. Gregoria doesn’t want him to look like a barbarian, but Candy thinks it’s silly, because how long is the combing going to last. Beto says that it’s too bad Candy can’t be their coach, but it’s great that his Dad, Patricio will be the coach. Chava then jumps in with the observation that you know what, MY Dad’s name is Patricio, too! Cool! says Beto, as Candy glares at her mother, who coughs guiltily.

Well, it’s finally time for our humorous segment. Sven and Ole are singing (a bit off-key) a love song, to full mariachi accompaniment. As Lulu breezes in and stands right in front of Zamora, they sing Sin Ti (without you), there’s no point in living, I can’t forget you, etc. Lulu gushes and blushes, since now she’s found the neighbor who loves her. Lu coquettishly inquires if they were dedicating that song to someone special. Sure, says Zamora, I’m dedicating it to those two chicks at the table over there (mariachis part to reveal the smiling serenadees). And Toño would dedicate it to Candy. Lulu slaps each and leaves.

At the soccer game, the boys are playing, Pat’s coaching, and Soledad is rooting, accompanied by Inspector Gadget’s sister. No, maybe it’s Candy in disguise, wearing a grey trenchcoat, black fedora, dark glasses, and holding a pink handkerchief (stolen from Meño) in front of her nose. A gol is scored, Soledad and Candy jump for joy, but Candy has to do her jumping behind a tree, since she’s afraid Pat will see her. No way would he recognize you in that outfit, reassures Sole. But you know, Candy, she warns, how long do you think it’ll be before Pat figures this all out? Instead of one son, he has two, and on the same team. Especially since Chava now knows his Dad’s name is Patricio. Well, that was my mother’s fault, says Candy. No, don’t hold her responsible, shoots back Soledad. It would be better if you start thinking about what you’re going to do when Pat knows the truth.

Alicia is walking through the courtyard of a large stone building (maybe a dance academy), observing some girls doing ballet exercises. She flashes back to herself as a young dancer, maybe about 13, as her teacher praises her as an example to the others. In the present, tears start flowing as she has to get out of there.

Back at the soccer game, Soledad goes over to Pat to make sure he doesn’t look at Candy, still hiding in her clever disguise. And who should show up but Santi, almost causing Candy to jump out of her boots. He just came to help with her widower. He's not a widower, replies Candy, and she’s mad at Santi because of all the tricks, lies and traps. Santi doesn’t know what she’s talking about, until she reveals that Meño told her about the hamster thing. He wants to explain, but she knows perfectly well why he did it, to get her into his house, then into his bed. Well, that’s it. He should just disappear. In fact, he’s invisible to her now. If he talks, she won’t hear one word. She hates him! And walks off.

In the restaurant, Lucía asks Meño if she’s seen Charly. Why? Well, she loves him, that’s why. Just then, Charly bounds in, and he’s bought a cell phone! Now they can be together all the time!

The game’s over, and the boys, Pat and Soledad have returned to Sole’s apartment. Beto’s a little miffed that Chava got to kick a penalty kick, but Pat assures him that next time Beto can kick one. Beto happily asks Chava if he heard that, next time Beto will get a kick. Sure, says Chava, that’s the way it should be, Patricio will let you have a penalty kick, after all, he’s your Papá. At which point Beto tells Pat, “did you know that Chava’s Dad is named Patricio, just like you?” Pat is impactado.

Over at Santi’s, Candy is packing, and when Santi wants to talk, she doesn’t want to hear one word. In fact, she won’t say one word to him. Rocío and Chava run in, Rocío asking about going to the movies. Apparently Isabel and Candy promised to take the kids. Candy just wants to get out of there, but Sanctimonious Santi stands up for Candy’s character, telling the kids that Candy has values, and she always keeps her promises, because that’s the kind of person she is, always fulfills her commitments, never lets you down, so of course you’re going to the movies. The kids see Isabel and run to her, excited about the movies. Candy opens her mouth, but Santi says you promised not to say one word, so silencio, as he taps her playfully with a toy magic wand he’s been holding. He tells Chava to go take a bath and change his clothes, and tells Rocío to get something to eat. As Rocío goes off to the kitchen, Santi takes his Mom aside for a talk.

This leaves Candy with Chava, and they discuss the fact that Chava’s abuela (Gregoria) embarrassed Chava about wetting the bed. Candy ducks down to Chava’s height, then confides in him that she has a secret, too. When she was a girl, she did the same thing, until she was eight! He’s happy, they hug, and he goes off to take his quick bath before the movies.

Candy, Isabel, Chava and Rocío are at the mall, about to enter the theater. They’ve bought the popcorn and soda, and are just about to go in when Isabel spies Jaime, lurking. She excuses herself for a moment, and Jaime gives her a red rose. She goes back to the group, making hand signals to Jaime to wait for him, or meet her later (Jaime doesn’t totally understand her hand signals, and frankly, neither did I). They go into the theater.

Pat and Alicia are looking at possible artifacts to buy for his business, but Pat’s a little preoccupied, and hasn’t chosen anything. Why? Well, he’s been thinking. Meño has a kid in his house, he has a photo of Candy, and he says he’s been lying to the kid, telling the kid that your (Alicia’s) sister was the kid’s mother. And now the boy says his father’s name is Patricio. Alicia doesn’t get it, and Pat leaves, still thinking.

Back in the darkened theater, they’re eating popcorn and watching a scary movie when a monster pops up in the row behind them! Well, this monster se llama Santiago. He maneuvers himself next to Candy as other patrons tell them to be quiet. He then smiles at Candy, tells her not to say a word, just as she promised, and he kisses her right on the lips (and the kids can see this!).

Pat’s looking for answers, interrogating Meño in the restaurant. He reminds Meño that Meño claims to have adopted that boy, Chava, and told Chava that Candy from the foto was Chava’s mother. Well, now the boy is saying his father’s name is Patricio. Does Meño have an explanation for that?

Back in the theater, Candy (after a few seconds), pushes Santi away, outraged (sort of) that he kissed her in the theater, with his mother there, what’s he thinking? Was his mother in on it? Rocío chirps in, why did you kiss Chava’s Mamá, Daddy? Santi says he didn’t, but Chava says he saw it, too. Is she your novia? Candy grabs Chava and pushes through the row to get out of the theater, followed by Santi (with Rocío), who in response to the complaints from the crowd, tells them to shut up, and you know what, he adds? The guy dies in the end anyway!

Meño explains to Pat that it just came out of his head, using the foto of Candy as the mother for the boy, and the name Patricio as his father. Meño was thinking of that wedding, and you know what, Pat, in the few days I had with Candy before she died, she told me about how you broke her heart. I’m not one to open up old wounds, but you were a patán (boor, lout, scoundrel). Wait a minute, says Pat, I really loved her, and she never gave me the chance to explain. Yeah, well how’s your wife, buddy, retorts Meño. Say hello to her for me.

Outside the theater, the two kids are both asking if the parents are going to get married (since everyone saw that kiss), and both parents are telling them to be quiet. After Candy and Chava leave, Rocío tells her Daddy she doesn’t want Candy to be her mother. She wants Marissa to be her mother, please Daddy, please! Okay, okay, says Santiago, hugging her (but he’s not too happy about this).

Music picks up, and it’s over to our Romeo and Juliet (Charly and Lucía), scrambling out to the garden on a beautiful sunny day, looking for a place to smooch. Finally they get the chance, they lock lips for about two seconds under the tree, when they’re doused by water from Donato, who just happened to be high up in same tree, and speaking into a bullhorn, announces, “No stolen kisses” to the chagrin of the teens.

Isabel has now met up with Jaime, and they’re walking through a pigeon-filled square towards a gazebo. I really like her sweater, sort of red and black, with an aztec pattern. Anyway, she tells him that Marissa is Santi’s novia, but Isa thinks Marissa’s not for him, that he really likes Candy. And she wants to help him. Jaime doesn’t think she should meddle – how different is it from Santi thinking Jaime isn’t the man for Isabel? Isabel thinks that’s different, but Jaime’s not so sure. Isabel feels sorry for Candy, though, and wants to help her. By the way, she asks Jaime, what did you want to tell me? Well, Jaime has been thinking about the two of them. He missed her, and thinks each day with her is a good day. He never thought he’d fall in love again (after his wife died), and he’s not sure what’s happening, but something different is happening. It’s like the first time all over again (otra primera vez). He tenderly touches her mouth with two fingers, and kisses his fingers. Isabel feels the same way, she also thinks it could be the first time all over again, and touches his mouth, and kisses her fingers. They then touch the two fingers of each hand together, and embrace.

Well, it’s time for Santi and Candy to explain that shocking kiss to their curious kids. We cut back and forth between the separate conversations. Santi says let’s keep it a secret, it was a fake kiss, like the movies. Candy doesn’t want to lie, can’t really explain, but when Chava asks if Santi’s her novio, she says no (as does Santi in the other conversation). Candy says Rocío’s Dad wants to be her novio, but they’re not novios. Santi tells Rocío adults say one thing and do another (how true!). Chava tells his Mom she doesn’t have a novio, and when she asks if he’d like her to have one, he says no, because I’m your novio! Candy laughs and they hug. Santi asks Rocío why she wants Marissa to be her Mamá. Rocío says that Marissa’s really good with her, she loves Marissa, and when they get married, Marissa will really be her Mamá! Needless to say, Santiago is not quite as overjoyed with his parent/kid chat as Candy was.

Alicia is in her apartment, watching ballet on the HD TV, sipping a drink and crying. Pat wants to know why she’s crying, is she okay? No, she’s not. Candy destroyed her life. (Apparently she’d never told Pat the story with the ballet shoes). She continues that he doesn’t know the story, but Candy destroyed her life. Pat then quietly responds that we destroyed her life, too.

And the blows keep coming. Chayo is questioning why Ed has to go out at night to the clinic. Ed gives her (what I think is a load of bull) the story that he has a big program of surgeries, lipo, etc. But why can’t you just do that in the morning, asks Chayo. He just can’t. And what about the food she made? They’ll eat it another time, and he leaves. Chayo hears the phone, and as she goes to get it, accidentally knocks over the picture of her and Ed, which falls to floor and shatters. She slowly picks up the picture of what used to be.

It’s evening. Candy has packed, and is leaving Santi’s house. Santi wants her to stay another night. Well, she reminds him, her mother and uncle already left, and by the way, the “rats” left her house, too. Santi is sorry, and how many times does he have to say that? Muchas, and he should apologize for all his lies, and for calling her Madam Liar. Well, he thinks she has lied a bit, but let’s talk about it. No, she says, and here comes my taxi. Donato points out that someone’s in that taxi. And guess who? It’s Marissa, who has brought HER suitcase, and has decided to move in. After all, Candy was living there, so why can’t Marissa, being the cute novia (says Marissa). Candy’s fine with that, Marissa can live there, eat there, do anything she wants there, and by the way, Marissa, the next time you decide to romance someone on speakerphone, maybe think about whether anybody is around you, because what you did was disgusting. Taxi leaves, Mari’s happy, Santi not so much.

On a little lighter note, Meño has brought Lulu flowers and chocolates (to cheer her up). She’s not too impressed with them at first, but after he leaves, one of the three candles she has lit for Saint Anthony goes out. It’s an omen! Of course! White flowers means a novia. And Almendra chocolates. Well, it’s obvious. Bárbara was right! Her secret love was closer than she thought. Meño’s in love with her! Thank you Saint Anthony she says, kissing the figurine. She’s found true love!

But things are not so rosy with Santi and Marissa. He’s not happy about her trick with the speakerphone, Well, she was just marking her territory, should she just sit around and do nothing, after he brought Candy here with the stupid rat story, one time in his life could he admit he was wrong? Of course he won’t, it was a social action, helping society. Oh really, replies Marissa. Would you be okay if I brought one of your guy friends to live with me because he had rats in his house? That’s different, says Santi, I didn’t bring one of your girlfriends to my house (no?), and it was a social action, he repeats in a louder voice. Well, okay, I’m sorry, I guess you just want to scold me and put me down, says Marissa (almost crying). Forgive me if once in a while I get a little jealous. But it hurts me inside.

Pat’s asleep, and Alicia is again sadly recalling her ballet days. The young Alicia has finished her lesson, and is taking off her ballet slippers. As she goes into the other room, little sis Candy comes in, enthralled by the magic of the moment, and puts on Alicia’s ballet slippers. Alicia comes back a second later, rips the shoes off Candy, telling her that was a stupid thing to do. Candy protests that she just wanted to be a dancer, too. In the darkened room with Pat sleeping, a tear slides down Alicia’s cheek.

And there’s no letup, as Candy is now arguing with her Mom about telling Chava his father’s name was Patricio. Candy prohibits Gregoria from telling Chava anything about Patricio, Candy will educate her son as she thinks is fit. What, is he your property, asks Gregoria. She thinks a child of that age should know about his family, about his grandfather, about his dead aunt, about his living aunt! No, says Candy, who are you to tell me anything? I don’t want your advice, because you advised me to forgive Pat, because you allowed your own husband to have affairs without complaining, we’re very different, you and I, I don’t want any of your advice! This hurts Gregoria, who says you didn’t have to be so cruel, and walks out the door, sobbing. After a few seconds, Candy realizes how hurtful her words may have been, and races out the door after her mother.

In the darkened square, Gregoria tells Candy that Candy has no idea what it was like with her father. When he went out with women, Gregoria was all alone, crying, and praying for him to return. And she had to raise and defend her daughters on very little money, knowing full well that her husband was spending most of the money on his mistresses. Candy says well, you didn’t let me get to know you. Maybe, replies Gregoria, but I also didn’t choose Patricio. I didn’t choose to marry him. And I’m not responsible for everything that happened. She tells Candy that sometimes in life, things go bad. And you have to keep going. What are you going to tell your son when he grows up? When he looks for his father? Candy says, please forgive me. Gregoria says, Candy, when was the last time you said you loved me? I don’t know, but I do love you, says Candy, and they hug tearfully as the episode ends.

Next time: More of the same.

Doña Bárbara, Weds., Jan., 14 - Dinner does not agree with Guerrero; DB take Marisela shopping

Guerrero accepts DB's invitation to provide a meal for him and his soldiers. She says that she will bring it to the hotel.

Santos is upset that Marisela wants to leave Altamira. Lorenzo says that he understands. Being here is just continued paid for Marisela.

The two terneras, Josefina and Melesia, ask Marisela to help them get the priest to perform their weddings.

Santos tells Melesio that he shouldn't let his granddaughters marry the rebels. Melesio says that if he didn't give permission, they would just run off anyway like Gervasia. He reminds Santos that everyone was against his getting together with DB.

Josefa comes to see DB to ask for the money that DB promised her for helping to kidnap Meléndez. She says that she is going to set up a competetor to the local whorehouse. DB says that she will give Josefa additional money if she promises to pass along any information she gets from drunk clientele.

Marisela, Josefa and Melesia to go see the Priest. At first he thinks they want to confess together but finally he understands that they want to keep the what they want to do as secret as a confession. Marisela tells him that if he doesn't agree to marry the terneras, they will escape with their lovers and live in sin.

Cecilia and Casilda are in Progresso. Cecilia faints from the heat and Antonio catches her.

DB loads up the truck and sends the cooked Meléndez with rice to town.

Antonio takes Cecilia to the doctor. While they wait for Dr. Arias to come in, he says that she will have his baby and he won't be there to take care of it or her because she married Lorenzo.

Cecilia comes out of the doctor's office and says that she is fine. It was just low blood sugar. Cecilia and Antonio kiss.

While she watched the soldiers eat, DB flashes back to all the bad things Melédez did. "You ended up the way you deserved, Melendez," says DB to herself. Once again, after the credits, the novela starts with DB in midsentence. When Guerrero thanks her for providing the meal, she says that she gets payback from those who do things to her. She tells Guerrero what his punishment is so he won't forget her. "It's no big deal, " she says, "just a little joke. Guerrero asks what she is saying. "Someone who hates me a lot calls me the 'man eater' ("la devoradora de hombres"). But it seems that I am not the only one. Because you and your men just ate the biggest, most disgusting pig in the world - your boss - Colonel Mélendez." Guerrero says that she must be lying. DB days that she never lies. She tells him to think about accusing her of anything because it would be her word against his and the evidence of the cadaver is in his and his men's bellies. Guerrero runs outside to puke. "Bon appetit, Captain!" says DB.

Cecilia asks Antonio to forgive her. He leaves without replying.

Santos yells at DB for feeding the soldiers. DB says that he is supposed to be so much more civilized and Christian than her. It's she who supposedly can't forgive her enemies. Santos tells her that he can't forgive Meléndez after what he did to her and to Marisela. DB says that it is always Marisela with Santos. DB says that S is obsessed with Marisela. Santos brings up the fact that Marisela confessed to something that she didn't do to save him. DB says that everyone is always saying how great Marisela is and how bad DB is. She is fed up. If her daughter messes with her man, she will defend him. She wants Marisela to go far away. Santos brings up DB's promise to give Marisela La Barquereña and she says that she will.

DB sends for terneras and Marisela to try and promote Gonzalo's suit. DB says that she is just supporting Marisela. Santos is upset with DB for pushing Gonzalo on Marisela. He says that what is doing is called procuring (alcahuetear). Santos criticized her before for not caring about her daughter. Now that she has changed and wants to support her daughther and win her affection, he is still criticizing her? Santos says that she knows that Marisela's happines is not at Gonzalo's side. "Where is it, then? At your side?" says DB, "Do you feel happy seeing her suffer because the man she loves is the husband of her mother?"

DB invites Marisela to go to San Fernando with her to buy clothes for her birthday.

Antonio tells the rebels that he will go with them to the frontier to make sure that nothing bad happens to them.

Santos comes to Mujiquita to draft a document transfering La Barquereña from DB to Marisela.

DB asks what Marisela is going to do once she is 18. Marisela says that she would like to leave and see other places. DB urges her to marry Gonzalo.

Cuidado Thursday January 15, 2009: Telenovelaland: Where even padres and grannies don’t tell the truth

Padre Anselmo is telling Mari to look deep down inside herself to decide about Leo, but she doesn’t want to open old wounds thinking about JM. The padre asks if JM were free, would she go back to him? Leo walks in and there’s an awkward silence. Mari says she’ll go see about the baby and off she runs.

Leo notes that Mari was crying and asks the padre if it has to do with the baby’s father. The padre says she says she doesn’t care for him anymore. Leo says I’m hoping so.

Mari wonders to herself why the padre asked if she’d go back to JM if he were available. Cande comes in and Mari says the padre is asking weird questions – what’s really up with JM? Cande dances around the subject, then asks if Mari’s decided whether they’ll stay or go back to the DF.

Elsa is at her folks’ house and she is telling her daddy that Nelson is a goner due to cirrhosis and doesn’t he think it would be very wrong for a wife to abandon a husband who is sliding into home plate? Her daddy just kisses her hand.

In the blue kitchen, the padre tells Mica about what he asked Mari, but says Mari just started crying, so probably she still loves JM. Mica tells her brother the padre how Leo has brightened up since Mari got there. Of course she’s on Team Leo so she says even if JM is free, his life is a mess, his wife, that French woman! She should marry Leo – she’ll fall in love with him over time since he’s such a great guy. Besides, everyone at the hacienda loves her. Let her stay! The padre pokes at his soup.

Later Mari asks the padre to tell her the truth, did something happen with JM? She’s had bad dreams and all, so she called JM and he said he still loves her. Mari says but he’s married…. The padre says ummm best to just be patient and don’t make any rash decisions. If you want to go back to JM maybe something can be arranged. Mari says yeah right. Anyway I don’t want to make my life so complicated. Know what? I think I’ll just stay here with Leo and my baby.

At castle San Ramon, Rocio is telling JM about how Onelia wants to dump her garbage on little Mayita, but Rocio’s standing guard. JM is worried that Onelia is going to make a lot of things public and that she’s going to smear him to Mayita. Rocio tells him the facts are on his side.

Elsa’s parents come to Nelson’s where they are talking to Elsa, but Nelson’s bed is empty. They say they want her to come home. She says I told you no. They say we mean both of you – Nelson too!

In the barn, Leo asks Mari if she’s going to leave. She says I’m here now. He says you’re like a dove that arrived in a storm. And when the dove’s nest isn’t needed anymore, she flies off, not just to the trees in the garden, but far off, so far away nobody sees her anymore. Leo says I don’t know when you’ll leave. Mari says I’m going to stay here with you. Leo is stunned. He says it’s like a dream. He takes Mari’s hand and she pats his like it’s a business shake.

Rocio hints to JM what about Mari? He says it hurts him to remember her and guess what she called yesterday. Rocio is jazzed. JM says I told her I still love her, but she said she’s moved on. Rocio says don’t believe it. JM says our home situation is rough right now, it’s not the right time.

Leo is declaring his devotion and Mari says I know. You saved me and the baby, so our lives properly belong to you. Leo turns serious and says it is just gratitude? You’re not staying because of love? If so, never mind. Mari says no it’s not gratitude and do you think I’d be the only woman on earth who wouldn’t fall for you? He gives her a happy hug and kisses the top of her head. You pick the date he says and Mari looks hesitant.

Now Nelson is back in the room and he thanks Elsa’s parents and says he’ll come. That way Elsa will feel safe and protected. Elsa’s mama takes his hand and thanks him and her daddy gives Elsa a hug. Somebody pass the insulin.

Stef tells Isa about her visit to see Blanca. They gloat a bit.

The padre is visiting castle San Ramon and Rocio tells him how Onelia thinks Blanca and JM were in cahoots to off Viv, which is making things complicated. They both say they plan to visit Blanca.

Mayita comes running out and greets them. She says she can’t wait for her mama to come home and bring her a baby brother. Mayita asks where Mari is and Rocio says remember how I told you she had to go? Mayita says everybody keeps leaving, my mama, Mari and now Blanca. Bummer.

JM’s lawyer comes to see him at work and tells him that the trial is next week. JM asks if he’s being accused. The lawyer says yes, Onelia’s bringing charges against both of them, and he wants to know if another psychiatrist could testify about the split personality thing. JM says no, he’s the only one qualified and the only one familiar with the case. Split personality is rare and he’s the only qualified person who has witnessed the Blanca/Ivette transformations. The lawyer says one big problem is that the victim was pregnant.

Blanca is mooshed into a corner in her cell. She’s anguishing as she remembers Stef saying she knows she (Blanca) is in love with JM. She falls to the ground, and grabs the bars. Is she transforming into Ivette? A guard pays no attention.

Nelson is out on a lounge on Elsa’s folks’ lawn, a blanket over him. Elsa asks if he’s comfy. He says it’s funny, he’s always scoffed about possessions and even emotions yet here he is surrounded by comfort and love.

Bea comes out with her baby and Elsa admires it and Nelson says it’s okay as babies go. Bea says that the baby was sickly at first because she didn’t take care of herself in her early pregnancy, but that wonderful Ed has everything back on track. She owes him so much! Elsa smiles bravely and looks at Nelson on his lounge.

Ivette has taken over. She frantically undoes her braid, pounds on the bars and demands to be let out. The guard runs off. She raves in French. The two detectives come and witness her raging and striking out between the bars, threatening to kill someone.

We’re in Grannyland. Granny says you just had a great time in Acapulco, so why the long face? Mayita says it looks like Mama’s gone again. Granny says you’ll have to get used to her being gone. Mayita says Blanca too. Granny says you have Rocio who takes care of you and your daddy who loves you – and Cuate too. Mayita wants to see Mari and the baby she promised. Granny says you need to have faith that things will work out for the best for you. (Yup, having your mama stabbed by your mentally ill nanny is just jim dandy.) She hugs and pets Mayita.

Becky the curly-haired art crowd lady has come to see Rocio. She said she came earlier but Rocio wasn’t there. Rocio says I must’ve gone out – things get so intense here. Becky studies her and says why are you deceiving Vicente? You don’t have time to see Vicente, but you go out with Dr. Tinoco.

Rocio says it’s depressing here and I’ll confess with Vicente too. I need to get away from all the suffering, get out, see people. Please understand – what’s wrong with that? Becky says do you have to do those things with Dr. Tinoco? Plus you don’t tell Vicente. Rocio says I don’t want to hurt him over nothing. Becky says talk to him and tell him the truth. Rocio says are you telling me to break off with him? Never. Balbina comes in and says telephone – Dr. Tinoco.

Leo is learning to hold MiniJM. Mari says he’s doing great and Cande applauds. Amazing that he knows enough to deliver a baby, but not to hold one. Leo makes the happy announcement that he and Mari are engaged and he asks for her hand. Cande is thrilled.

Rocio says to tell Dr. Tinoco that she’s sleeping. Becky says she’ll go, probably Rocio has private things to discuss with him, and she says she won’t tell Vicente. Rocio says he’s just a friend! Becky says but you have time for him and you ignore Vicente, who’s hurting because of you. Rocio says what about Vicente? He’s not even willing to get up and try. Becky says hmmm that’s what Dr. Tinoco said – you’ve learned his lesson well. Rocio says I swear there’s nothing between us. Maybe says Becky, but that could change.

Cande says she’ll give Leo not only Mari’s hand, but the whole girl. Leo is beaming and Mari is smiling big too, but there’s doubt behind her eyes.

At JM’s office, his secretary tells him Ed was called away to an out-of-town conference and won’t be back for 10 days. JM says Ed wanted to tell me something urgently, I guess that’s what it was. JM says to himself I have to get her out and then cure her. And then…

Mari tells Leo she doesn’t want to marry in a church. Leo says was your marriage in a church? and we get a long flashback to the JM/Mari wedding. Leo says we’ll be happy. She pats his hand. It’s a charming tableau: Leo holding the baby, Mari looking on and smiling, set in the lovely living room of the expansive hacienda she about to be the lady of, but we all know Something is Missing.

Now it’s just Mari and the baby in the living room and Mica rushes in all thrilled with the news. She tells Mari it’s the best decision that she’s made in her life. Mica raves about Leo’s big heart and how he’ll love and care for Mari the rest of his life. She gives Mari a big hug.

Mica says and your ex – will that be a shadow over your marriage? Mari says no, I need to forget him. Mica says I hope you can, for everyone’s good. Mica leaves and Mari wonders to Diosito if she’ll be able to forget.

JM is alone in his house and says to himself that he has to forget Mari.

Mari remembers JM rejecting her and telling her that Viv is alive and that their marriage apparently never really existed. Then she remembers his telling her a few days ago that he still loved her. She reaches for the phone.

JM answers but she doesn’t speak. Even without checking his caller ID, he knows it’s her. He says why don’t you talk? Even if you hate me… Mari hangs up on him.

Mari tells herself she has to forget him, he’ll never leave his wife and doesn’t know his son exists. She’s got to play fair with Leo who’s been so good to her and the baby. She asks God to help her not call just to hear JM’s voice. He has to be dead to her.

JM has gone to visit Blanca in her green cell. She is sleeping on the cement shelf – why doesn’t she have a bed or at least a blanket? She wakes and sees him.

Vicente’s mama is visiting him and tries to get him interested in painting again. He says he can’t go back to his old life, he has no interest. The door bell rings and she says maybe it’s Rocio. But it’s Becky, who sure seems like a way better deal lately the way she’s so attentive. Vicente says he’s sure Rocio will come. Becky says it’s probably best you learn to live without her. (Nice, Becky. When you get done here, you can go stomp on some baby chicks.)

Blanca is Blanca again and she says the police told her how she raged and threatened them, but she doesn’t remember any of it. JM asks how she feels and she says she hurts all over. He says mentally? She says she’s okay. He offers to take her to a hospital but she says no, Ivette would take advantage.

Becky tells Vicente that Rocio can’t stay cooped up all the time, so she’s going out. Vicente’s ma gestures for her to stop. Becky says Rocio loves you but she doesn’t want to spend her life with an invalid. Vicente’s ma says for heaven’s sake, Becky! Becky says the truth often hurts, but it’s better than lies. Sorry to tell you this she says and leaves. Vicente dissolves and his mother hugs him.

Blanca says Ivette could escape and wreak more havoc. Promise me you won’t let them move me from here. JM promises. He holds her.

Cande asks why Mari looks at her baby so sadly sometimes. Mari says JM doesn’t know about him. Cande says let’s have a heart-to heart: All these ideas swimming around in your head when you’re about to marry another man? Mari says last night I decided not to think about those things any more. Cande says you’re transparent. If you still love JM, why are you marrying El Leopardo?

Avances: the lawyer asks Blanca if there was anyone in her past who knew about her split personality and she says yes, a doctor. Omar.

Tontas Thursday 1/15 - Doors for hiding behind, eavesdropping, locking, walking through and bursting open

Yowza, Santi's old med school buddy Eugenio stops by for a visit. Candy shows up and goes ballistic, hits the guy, "Murderer!!", and tries to call the police. As Kris surmised he is the quack who killed Candy's sister. Candy says he called himself Francisco Rodriguez Rodriguez and she was at his supposed (dizque) office and saw him face to face when he told her her sis was dying. He admits it's true, he worked for med students who ran a clandestine operation. Santi is incredulous, Eugenio went to Miami! No, he ran away to Costa Rica and even though he never went to jail he swears that he is still paying for what he did. Candy disappears into the house and Santi tells Eugenio he will help Candy go after him, "now get out!"

Candy hightails it to the institute where she tells Barbara what happened. The conversation turns to Chayo's obsession with having a bubi enhancement and they plot to dissuade Chayo from plastic surgery.

Soledad and Patricio make up. He's happy that Beto called him papa and now he wants to talk. He knows she's not Rojiblanca, will she tell him who is the real Rojiblanca? "OK" she agrees.

Barb shrinks Chayo's head about her motives for wanting plastic surgery. Chayo wants a bubi job to make herself more attractive to her husband and save her marriage. Barb asks, what if Eduardo doesn't care? All that pain and recovery for nothing? Chayo should do it for herself, not for someone else. Chayo's confused and feels like she's throwing balls in the air (feels shot down = echar bolas). Barb tells her it's a very serious decision; Chayo bites her nails and thinks hard.

Candy tells Ceci she's been getting secret roses for weeks and she still has no idea who's leaving them. Ceci says it must be a very special type of person, not the plastic doctor like Candy thought. Candy notes that even though he's an insincere braggart (farolón) he does show some sweet traits. Coincidentally the farolón is Candy's next type of machograma, the dangerous lyin' lion. Speaking of the king of Rome, Santi peeks through the door and growls at them. He only stopped by to let her know he has dinner plans for that night. He growls and leaves. See, she tells Ceci, he is sweet sometimes.

Sole brings Patricio to Meño's restaurant and is surprised that they already know each other. This plays perfectly into her little plan, she introduces Meño as Rojiblanca. Meño smiles coquettishly and Pato is homophobically impactado.

Candy visits Raul at his office and he convinces her to have dinner with him. He was invited by friends and he doesn't want to go alone. "Hey, if I'm your 'novio' the least you can do is dine with me."

Beto and Chava practice futbol and discuss the merits of a papa with purchasing power vs. a papa who can play futbol with you. Even though Chava's less materialistic he wonders if Beto's new papa will buy him stuff too. Soledad listens pensively.

Lulu arrives at the restaurant sobbing and Meño asks "Why so gloomy?" (porque de negro?) Apparently Lulu dreamt that she was crowned the old maid of the year, boo hoo!

Barbara catches Ceci mooning over Candy's photo and asks why does she torture herself working close to Candy? Know-it-all Barb advises Ceci to be careful or she'll lose Candy as a friend.

Charly and Lucia sneak into her very pink room for a quick smooch. Charly locks the door for security. Unfortunately Donato, lying in wait inside the girls' bathroom, pops out and threatens Charly's family jewels with the pruning shears. Young love nipped in the bud.

At home Alicia admires her reflection in front of a large painting that's hung askew; she comments that it's the women who wait for men instead of men always waiting for women. (OMG that's so true in my experience, however I'll admit I'm fanatically punctual.) She drags a tired and reluctant Patricio out the door, they are supposed to meet her plastic surgeon for dinner and if they become friends maybe she'll get a discount! That's our Alicia, always working the angle.

Elsewhere Marissa, sporting a tight silver lamé mini-dress, waits for Santi. You're late, no you're late they bicker, he does his Alejandro Fernandez impersonation and then off they dash to meet Al and Pat for dinner.

Meanwhile Raul picks Candy up and gives her a flower in a bowl; is it a magnolia?

The first two couples arrive at the restaurant. Santi is confused to see six places. Uh oh, he tries to call Candy on the sly but Meño gasps she's already left. To Marissa's delight and Santi's horror Candy and Raul appear. Will Candy be outed?

Not this night. As Candy escapes to the bathroom Santi shouts "Magic!" and makes a huge scene by pulling the tablecloth out from under the crashing dishes. Marissa is horrified but Alicia is delighted. For his next trick he grabs a cake and "accidentally" smashes it into Alicia's cleavage. Patricio is highly amused as a number of Asian tourists whip out their cameras to record the moment.

Back at the darkened manor the adolescents sneak around in the dark trying to steal kisses while the hulking Donato lurches after them and spoils their fun.

This next part was kind of confusing but here's what I think is going on: Alicia wants to go clean up in the bathroom but Santi, as her doctor, refuses to let her go. HE should go to the bathroom while Marissa helps Alicia clean up at the table. Alicia's all "que the hell?". Suddently Patricio's on board and shuffles Santi off toward the bathrooms because he remembers meeting Santi with another woman at the futbol field. He wants to help Santi the tiger with his lady problems. Santi catches on and says Oh right, the woman at the futbol field is my lover whom I impregnated and I need to keep her and my official girlfriend apart. All this while the camera's continue to flash. Pato goes back to the table to cover for his new pal.

Santi bursts into the ladies room and almost breaks Candy's nose with the door. They are forced to hide together in a small stall when the baño is invaded by a group of women.

Meanwhile Pato entertains himself by eating the cake out of Alicia's cleavage, explaining Santiago's "situation" to Alicia and assuring her he's nothing like the cheating Santiago.

We're transported to the Little Casa on the Prairie as Gregoria, dressed in her nightcap and flannel nightgown, crawls into bed with Chava. Uh oh, looks like our little bed-wetter has struck again and pipi-sodden Granny isn't pleased.

Santi and Candy try to plot her escape while Santi pipes up in his best girly voice that he needs help with his grown-up diaper. Whatever. He tries to give Candy his car keys and drops them in the toilet. Instead of just getting them they both make a big deal about how gross it is. The hilarity of it all.

Evil granny in flannel makes Chava feel bad for wetting the bed and forces him to pipi one more time before getting back into bed. She tells him if that witch Isabel asks to tell her he sweated a lot.

While Santi tries to muster up the strength to grab his keys out of the amazingly clean toilet Candy recites a tongue-twister to distract them. "Pancha plancha con cuatro planchas, ¿con cuantas planchas plancha Pancha?" Success! Santi retrieves the keys.

At the table Alicia insists on going to the bathroom while Marissa and Raul whisper behind their menus that Santi's taking a long time.

Santi and Candy see Al coming toward the bathroom so they go back in and secure the door. In his best high voice Santi calls Alicia stupid and tells her to go away. This raises Alicia's hackles and she decides to bust the door down. Santi and Candy step back so that Alicia crashes through the door, flies to the far side of the bathroom and knocks herself out on the sink. "We killed her" fears Candy, but no, Santi finds a pulse and pushes Candy out the door leaving Alicia alone on the tile floor.

Santi drives Candy away from the restaurant and she wonders how they will ever repair this disaster of a night? Santi's sure Alicia didn't see Candy and they can fix the rest. He prefers they enjoy the beautiful night and dancing under the stars. "To what music?" asks Candy. Singer David Cavazos and band suddenly materialize and he badly lip-syncs Bruja Hada for them while the couple dances. Weird.

Back at the restaurant a doctor tends to Alicia's conked noggin while Marissa and Raul make excuses for their absent dinner mates. Marissa starts her usual jealous tirade and Raul strongly advises her to get a grip and change tactics.

As they dance Santiago tells Candy the old legend of the broken heart. Man and woman used to share a heart but eventually their egos got in the way and the heart divided into two halves, like two halves of an orange. For every person in the universe there is one other person who is the perfect other half of the orange and when they find one another those two halves of the heart are again united forever. He wants to tell Candy that this night he found the other half of his and she found hers. Whatever happens they now have the same heart that will forever beat as one. Candy seems smitten and quite frankly if some babe told me that same ridiculous story under similar circumstances I might be too.

The next morning Santi's got some explaining to do. He stutters that he left because Candy wasn't feeling well. Marissa kittens up to him and coos that she knows perfectly well he's a good doctor but it was very naughty of them to leave without letting her and Raul know, right? She had ugly thoughts but then she remembered that Santi is her novio, candy is her partner and sister in law and also her friend, they are all one big happy family, right? And now he's going to tell her how much he loves her and missed her, right? Santi is very nervous.

Over at the restaurant Meño advises Lulu to stop thinking about her bad dream. She should concentrate on everything she has instead of what she doesn't, which (as Lulu points out) is a man of her own.

Patricio pays Santi a man-to-man visit and tells him he figured out what when on last night. Clearly his lover called to tell him his child (by his lover) was sick or something. Santi plays long and asks Pato how many "amigas" does Pato have? Oh tons and tons of course, the mujeriegos toast to all their amigas.

When Lulu arrives at work she complains to all her gal pals that she keeps having her bad dream about being Miss Old Maid. She says all the rest of them are cute and skinny and will all have a guy. Barbara scolds Lulu and says love doesn't work like that, it has no size, skinny people have to work just as hard for true love. It can be right under your nose, a neighbor, a friend, a boss, all Lulu has to do is pay attention and when love jumps out at her not to be afraid of it.

Over at the restaurant Meño tells Sven and Ole that Lulu would make any man happy because she's a complete woman. "Too complete," wisecracks Sven. Meño comments that he loves Lulu like a daughter and from now on he's going to spoil her because she's stolen his heart. Not sure what this is all about, maybe he's going to help her find a man.

When Candy gets to work she asks Ceci why she's staring at her (Candy's) picture. As usual Barb is skulking outside the door and highly amused at Ceci's tormented heart. Ceci gives some lame excuse that she needs the picture for publicity. Candy happily comments that finally there is no rose on her desk and of course it was the plastic doctor who put the flowers on her desk. She asks Ceci not to tell Marissa. Barb smirks nastily.

Gregoria starts to give Chava a hard time for wetting the bed, holding the dog, whatever. He disarms her by telling her he loves her and she practically smothers him in kisses. He asks her about his father and she reveals his name was Patricio. Kid=smart, grandma=sucker.

Marissa waits for Candy to appear, then she calls Santi and tells him she wants him to tell her sweet things. He's preoccupied at work but it's easier to do what she says than argue with her. When Candy walks by Marissa puts Santi on speakerphone, pretends not to see Candy, and turns up the volume while Santiago distractedly tells her "I love you, I want us to live together, to never say goodbye in the morning, to make love again and again, and again, then one more time..." Candy listens and gets madder and madder. Mission accomplished for Marissa.

Tomorrow: Beto tells Patricio that Chava's papa's name is Patricio too!

Dizque = supposed, apparent
Echar bolas = to feel shot down, unappreciated
Farolón = braggart (also farolero)

Porque de negro? = why so gloomy/pessimistic?
Trabalenguas = tongue twister
