Teresa Tue 7/5/11 #91 Europe beckons but Tiburoncita still can’t ignore The Boy Next Door.

Outside the vecindad, Teresa tells Aida she’s only going on that vacation because Arturo begged her to. But she can still cancel that trip and tell Mariano she’s giving it all up for him. Then they’ll see who he’ll choose. She’s so involved in aggravating Aida she doesn’t notice Papá has popped up out of nowhere demanding to know what she means by that. Ruh-roh!

Casa Barrera: Hector has arrived to speak with Arturo regarding the oversight of the Pediatric Ward during his absence. Hector reminds him, as he did Ruben, that Mariano oversees that project. Arturo obviously doesn’t want to deal with Mariano and asks if they can instead work with Aurora. Mariano can make all the medical decisions but he and Ruben would rather have all contact be with Aurora.

Vecindad: Teresa tries to brush off Papá, telling him to forget it, it’s nothing. Aida won’t let that happen and tells him he shouldn’t forget about it. She doesn’t understand how it’s possible they all don’t know what type of person Teresa is. She reminds him how she tried to tell them all about it that night of the loteri ́a (awhile back). She wonders if it’s possible he’s in agreement with Teresa’s attempt to renew her relationship with Mariano. Armando asks to speak with his daughter alone. Aida would love nothing more, saying she’s on her way to see Mariano and that’s where she should be instead of wasting her time fighting with Teresa. She excuses herself but not before telling Armando she hopes he gets a grip on reality. Armando wants an explanation from Teresa about this and Teresa of course tells him it’s a misunderstanding. She only said that about Mariano in a moment of anger. She reminds him how much Aida has always bullied her. He doesn’t feel this gives her the right to say such things. If anything, she should be happy Mariano is with Aida as that will keep him from stalking her again and coming between her and her husband.

Goodness, the wedding ceremony. I’d forgotten about that. Judge is proceeding with the ceremony, and of course Johnny & Pati have no rings. Aurora and Juana come to the rescue. Juana hands over the ring from her deceased husband to Mariano since he’s the padrino of the rings. This puts Mariano and Aurora side by side with the happy couple.

Chavez apartment: Teresa continues trying to convince Armando she was provoked by Aida who accused her of to Europe only as a means to travel and not as a means to save her marriage. Armando doesn’t understand why she cares what Aida says and then asks Teresa to confirm that she’s going to Europe to save her marriage. Teresa swears that of course she wants to save her marriage. She concedes he was right in saying she was immature in responding that way to Aida. He’s very concerned and tells her she needs to consider what would happen if Aida told Arturo what she’d said.

Wedding: They exchange rings and the judge declares them man and wife. Cheers!

Armando now advises Teresa she should be going on that trip with the goal of saving her marriage or not go at all. Armando took notice of Arturo’s reaction after she was assaulted. He’s convinced Arturo truly loves her. He has no idea why he was unfaithful but he saw true love in his eyes.

Wedding: Everyone is congratulating the couple. Johnny profusely thanks Juana and Aurora for the use of the rings and promises they’ll return them as soon as possible. As he’s thanking Aurora and she insists it was nothing, Hernán says it’s true she is a good woman and it’s time everyone knew she’s the one who convinced her dad to accept Pablito at the hospital. (For you newbies, Pablito is Johnny’s and Espe’s lil bro who had kidney problems. They’re very poor and couldn’t afford treatment. Thanks to Aurora’s intercession, the hospital treated him pro bono). Johnny and Espe thank her, saying that without her help, they never would’ve been able to hospitalize him. Aurora continues to humbly say thanks aren’t necessary. Mariano disagrees and says that’s Aurora for you, always wanting to help others anonymously. She’s generous, good, and now she’s a doctor! He congratulates her and caresses her face. They share an all too brief moment when Aida appears, spoiling Aurora’s moment with Mariano and making everyone else uncomfortable.

Back to Teresa and Pops. She doesn’t want to talk about this anymore (phew) and suggests they head on over to the wedding. After what just happened, Armando doesn’t think that’s such a hot idea since Aida’s sure to be there. What if she repeats everything in front of everyone, in front of Mariano? It would be terrible. He stands firm that they shouldn’t go.

Wedding: Aida is congratulating the happy couple and makes it obvious she would rather be anywhere than hanging out here. She approaches Mariano and Aurora who excuses herself, saying she needs to call her dad. Aida tells Mariano she came to get him because she doesn’t want him to be near Teresa. And it’s a good thing she came now because she ran into Teresa downstairs and he won’t believe what she told her! Ramon is standing nearby, listening. Over Mariano’s objections she tells him about Teresa’s thoughts of divorce after her return from Europe and seeking out Mariano again. She even tells him that Teresa wondered how many minutes would pass before he dumped Aida after he found out that she wants him back. Mariano tells her not to pay attention to anything Teresa says. She just says these things to annoy her. Aida knows this and then tells him she’s so happy as long as he’s with her. She proceeds to paw him and cling to him. Ugh. Aurora witnesses this as she’s calling her father.

They’re running out of sodas (refrescos) and Mariano offers to go to the store. Aida chooses to stay behind with Aurora. Armando walks in just as he’s leaving. More salutations to the newlyweds.

Mariano is now outside and he runs into Teresa just as she’s getting to her car. Mariano tells her Aida spilled the frijoles tells her not to speak for him. If he ever planned to return to her, the first person he’d tell would be Aida. Teresa says she was provoked. She only came by to give JohnPat a check as a wedding gift. After the scandal that Aida caused, she can’t show herself at the wedding. Mariano can’t believe she brought a check as a gift, telling her she thinks she can fix everything with money. JohnPat would’ve preferred she attend their wedding. She’s Espe’s friend and wasn’t even there for her brother’s wedding. Teresa blames it all on Aida. Besides, that marriage won’t last long. Mariano feels they’re very happy and Pati was radiant with happiness. Teresa scoffs at this wondering how long this happiness will last. Mariano tells her that during the ceremony, he thought of them and how happy they might have been. But she was never satisfied with what he had to offer. Teresa has to admit things continue to get better for him. He’s not talking about that. He’s referring to love and understanding; to be willing to do anything for her. But that was always a problem. It became clear to him she was only interested in material things and not feelings. She can’t believe he thinks Aida is interested in feelings. He tells her Aida is learning that despite everything, she can still be happy. She lost Paulo and he lost Teresa and they’re working on building something from that. She tells him they shouldn’t be so sure it will work out. Mariano says the important thing is that they’re trying. He says Teresa had the same chance but she went after the sure thing and look at her now. She’s notably unhappy. She just stares at him puckering her pink frosted lips.

Teresa tells Arturo she’ll be gone for a few months and he tells her that was her choice. (Is that equal to “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn?”) Teresa says he decided to despise her even though she told him she was going to get a divorce. That no longer matters, he says. He tells her to enjoy her trip and everything that Arturo can give her. His rejection (rechazo) really hurts her. She doesn’t want to leave thinking he hates her. He doesn’t hate her, he could never hate her. She’ll never stop thinking of him as her first love – her true love. Their theme song plays as she leans her head on his shoulder. She makes her signature move, leaning back and putting her lips ever so close to his. Doesn’t work this time! (nyah, nyah) He steps away from her and again wishes her a good trip and walks away. Oh yeah!

Uh-oh. Aida is confronting Espe, saying she hasn’t forgiven her. Espe tells her now is not the time to talk about this. Aida thinks it is and tells her not to think they’ll ever get along because they’re not equals and gives Espe the once over. She starts to tell her she aims to take Mariano out of this dump so he doesn’t have to continue to socialize with people like her. Espe reminds her that Mariano was born and raised in this vecindad. He has roots here, his father is here. He would never turn his back on them, not even to live in a palace.

Casa Barrera: Fernando and Arturo discuss the upcoming European trip (tomorrow!) Arturo is convinced that since she agreed to the trip, their reconciliation is as good as done. Fernando mentions Paloma and Arturo gets upset at the mention of her name. He just wants to look forward. His future is with Teresa and he’s determined (empeñado) to win her back. He’s sure their relationship will be even better than when they first married. Fernando, looking like a Gloomy Gus, agrees that it seems that his relationship with Teresa will continue as his with Luisa. Arturo wonders what’s up, why does he say it like that?

Wedding: Aurora asks Refugio if Teresa is coming. Aida says of course she is….to see Mariano. Both Refugio and Aurora take exception to this. Wow, Aida with her green dress and black stockings is itching for a fight today. Armando tells her Teresa has no intentions of coming.

Mariano returns with the refrescos, the crowd starts calling for the cake, and Hector arrives. Juana greets him warmly (hooray) and he tells her she looks lovely.

Back at Casa Barrera: Fernando explains he was thinking of Teresa (I’ll bet he was!) and how Paloma hurt them both by casting a shadow on their marriage. Teresa doesn’t deserve that. Arturo says he can’t undo the past but he’s not ready to lose her and will fight for her. He doesn’t want what happened to Mariano to happen to him, saying Mariano wasn’t able to keep her because he didn’t know how to fight for her. He feels he needs to fight to keep her before someone else falls in love with her. (Too late, Artie). Fernando tells him to make Teresa happy and Arturo assures him he plans to and asks Fernando to do the same for Luisa.

Back at Wedding: FF>> Pati & Johnny silliness about what they’d like as a gift from Hector.

Casa Barrera: Teresa arrives, looking as though she’s lost her best friend, or her first lover. She thought bubbles about being away from Mariano for months and not being able to steal at least one kiss from him. Luisa greets her from above asking if she’s excited about the trip. Luisa’s made her a list of shopping venues. Teresa tells her Arturo suggested she pack lightly since he plans to buy her anything she wants. Luisa tells her she’ll see many sites, making for an unforgettable trip. She then gets serious, telling her she knows Teresa will end up forgiving him and falling even deeper in love with him.

Wedding: Armando tells Espe Teresa couldn’t come because she didn’t want to run into Mariano. He gives JohnPat a check from Teresa. They cut the cake.

Night falls and Johnny carries her over the threshold. They talk about needing to work on deepening their relationship before sleeping together. Pati says there’s one more thing they need to do. We next see them at Refugio’s altar to la Virgen the Guadalupe to thank her for their marriage and Pati talks to Rosita, promising to take care of Johnny. FF>>

Back at Juana’s, Cutberto, Juana, and Espe finish cleaning up. Espe complains about her swollen feet and goes to bed. Cutberto and Juana talk about the wedding. He asks about the type of wedding she’d like and she asks if he’d help her plan it. He says he will if she marries him. They predictably bicker back and forth. He mentions her being involved with a married man. Scene ends as usual with her sending him out.

Hector and Aurora at home: He’s still wondering what to get the happy couple since they have nothing. He decides to buy them a bed and Aurora agrees to pick it out for him. She notices he’s been very happy since his arrival at the wedding. He’s very happy and she’s the first to know about it. But first….

Evening turns to morning at Casa Barrera: Hector has come to see Juana. Juana chatters on and on about a breakfast for Teresa and Aurora. She’s been helping Teresa pack for her trip which starts today and she’s going to miss her terribly. She’ll feel so alone. Hector tells her she won’t be alone, she’ll have him. She starts to protest but he hands her an envelope that holds his divorce papers. It’s come through! Free at last! Although not for long, he tells her. She’s confused. He comes out with it, “Casate con migo, Juana!” Juana looks as though she’s been punched in the stomach. (I’m sure she’s going to say no, but please Juana! Marry him! Cutberto’s a payaso!)

House o’ Hunks: Madam O and Fer are enjoying breakfast. He mentions they’ll pass by for Luisa who’s hosting a bon voyage breakfast for her BFF, Teresa. Oriana talks about how much she likes Luisa. She’s so lovely, sensitive, and delicate. Fernando thinks back on how he viewed her as such a child. Oriana comments that she’s now a full grown woman who will soon be his wife. Speaking of which, any thoughts as to when the happy event will take place? He tells her they haven’t yet talked about marriage. She’s surprised to hear this since he’s said how much he loves her and wants her to have his children. He tells her he does care for Luisa but they’ve decided to take things at their own pace (ritmo). They’ve already told her they want to wait and asks her not to pressure him (no me presiones). She wonders what’s wrong with him, he seems really annoyed (molesto). He responds, “It’s just that we’ve already talked about this.”

Hector & Juana: She’s shocked. Get married? Isn’t he taking it a little fast? He’s just now divorced. Well, since yesterday when Arturo gave him the papers, he says. He tells her he rejected the idea of telling her at John/Pati’s wedding as it didn’t seem appropriate. Juana is flustered and readily agrees a wedding isn’t the appropriate setting to celebrate a divorce. Teresa comes down the stairs just then and congratulates her madrina saying she sees that Hector has given her his surprise. Oh, she’s surprised all right. She’s downright flabbergasted! This is so sudden, she didn’t expect this to happen so soon. Hector notices how nervous she’s become and he says he’s as excited as a chamaco. He wants an answer to his question, will she marry him? She nervously tells him she’d like to think about it. Teresa butts in and reminds her that the only reason she was holding back before was because Hector wasn’t divorced. Juana stammers and stutters saying they really haven’t been dating very long. Hector is willing to wait longer. However, he asks Juana if they can go from being novios to being comprometidos. Teresa applauds. Juana looks downright scared. Aurora and Luisa arrive just then and Aurora immediately notices something’s up. Teresa proudly announces that Hector and Juana have just entered into a more formal relationship. Aurora happily hugs her daddy. Everyone congratulates Juana who looks like she’s going to be ill. Aw c’mon Juana!

Oh bother – back at the vecindad, Johnny arrives at Refugio’s for breakfast with his true love. They exchange cute nothings with Pati saying she would have gladly slept with him last night, if only to be abrazaditos (embraced). Refugio comes in and reminds them all in good time. They have to wait until they learn a few things. Oh, please! Sorry, I just don’t get this whole get-married-but-wait-to-consummate-marriage bit.

Back at the Barrera’s: Hector is relating how desperate he was that the divorce wouldn’t come through without the presence of “she-who-shall-not-be-named”…Aurora’s mother. But Arturo was able to get it done. Luisa’s happy that there is now nothing to get in the way of their relationship. Juana wants to make sure Aurora is in agreement. Aurora is very happy that her father has found his partner and she has already begun to see Juana as a mother. Juana is very moved and goes across to give Aurora a big hug. She hopes to live up to her expectations and promises to be there to advise her and help her. She tells her she has a lot of affection for her. Teresa looks on jealously. Hector says there’s no doubt they will be very happy. Teresa agrees halfheartedly. Luisa jokes that this comes just when she’s become so accustomed to Juana and tells Aurora she’ll have to share. Teresa chimes in and says they have to discuss that with her because Juana has been there since she was a baby, not just as her madrina but much, much more. She asks Juana directly if she’s just like her daughter. She is jealous! Juana responds that of course she is but who would’ve known that she would end up with three daughters. Everyone laughs but Teresa, who sits there pouting. Arturo joins the happy group. Hector happily tells him the divorce has totally changed his life. Juana nervously says it’s changed her life too!

Chez Geno: Genoveva adds to her adoption story and tells Mayra she’s begun making inquiries about adoption and has found the process can vary in length. She’s interested in a newborn. Mayra tries to open the discussion to include older children who are also in need. Geno is adamant she wants a newborn who will only see her as his/her mother.

Casa Barrera: Aurora and Teresa are in the library alone talking about the European trip. Teresa offers to look up Martin while she’s there. Aurora reminds her they’ve agreed to take a time out on their relationship. She does ask Tere to do one thing while in Europe: give her marriage a chance.

Hospital: Mariano and dad are talking about John/Pati’s wedding. Mariano is deep in thought and recalls the time he was saving money to marry Teresa. When he broke open that piggy bank (cochinito de barro) it was as though he destroyed a dream, one that will never become reality. Ramon tells him things happen for a reason and he’s already seen there are other women besides Teresa. There’s a chance he can be happy with Aida and he should take it!

Casa Barrera: Teresa loves Arturo but doesn’t know if she can forgive him. Oh, please, says Aurora (and I). She knows Teresa still loves Mariano. Aida told her what she said yesterday. Teresa repeats her story that she only said that to stop Aida from bothering her. If anyone knows how Aida has harassed her, it’s Aurora. Aurora admits that’s true but she also knows that that Teresa continues to love Mariano and they both know it. She points out she’ll be on a months-long trip with her husband and should just leave Mariano alone. Let him start a new life and find happiness with Aida. Teresa should try to be happy with Arturo because neither he nor Mariano deserves this game.

Casa Caceres: Geno is visiting and now Aida is hears the adoption story. Geno feeds her the line that she’s very lonely and wants to fill that need to mother. Aida’s always been like a daughter to her but it’s not the same thing. Geno observes that she’s been spending a lot of time with Mariano. She can start a new life and have children, something that Geno can no longer do. Aida concedes but says Geno can’t adopt just any baby; she has to know who the parents are. Geno says that’s exactly what she’s planning to do – focus on the father….oh, and the mother too, of course. Of course.

Barrera Home: Teresa is sad to realize Aurora prefers Aida and therefore she’s going to ignore everything she’s just said. Aurora tells her to forget about Aida and think things through. Mariano and Arturo are both good men who both love her. She needs to come to a decision and stop playing one against the other because in the end she’ll never be happy. Hector and Juana interrupt because he needs to go back to the hospital. Aurora tells Juana she’s so happy they’ve become so close and she’d be grateful if Juana doesn’t mention anything that she said about Mariano. Juana promised to keep her secret and keep it she will. She also tells her that independent of her relationship with Hector, she really cares for her. They embrace and Teresa comments that it looks as though Aurora is the one who is headed for Europe. They all hug again and Aurora asks Teresa to remember their conversation.

Casa Caceres: Ruben arrives just as Aida is telling Geno that the Rrrrrrrrrata de Vecindad and Arturo are leaving for Europe today for a lengthy vacation. Ruben confirms they’ll be gone for a few months. He mentions Mayra would like to take a similar trip. Jealousy literally moves Geno out of her seat to ask when this trip will take place. Ruben figures he can’t go anywhere while Arturo is gone and has left him in charge of the foundation and other responsibilities. Aida offers to help him and then leaves. Ruben assures Geno he will hold off the trip with Mayra. Geno’s glad to hear that and hopes that Arturo’s trip will be lengthened so that Ruben will have the ability to fix the adoption of Espe’s baby as the acting head of the foundation. Ruben isn’t sure how they’ll get Espe’s baby to the foundation. Geno ponders this and says, “there are ways.” Scary lady.

Casa Barrera: Espe has come to see Teresa before her trip. Teresa apologizes for not attending the wedding. Espe says Armando explained everything. She tells her Aida is so jealous she probably showed up at the wedding just to make sure Mariano wasn’t there alone. Teresa asks Espe if she thinks Mariano still loves her. Espe suggests that instead of going on that trip, she should seek him out instead. Teresa feels it’s too late for that, Mariano hates her. Espe insists that since Teresa can’t seem to forget him, they should at least give it a try. Teresa says that for now she is going on vacation and swears she will do what she can to forget him. She changes the subject abruptly and talks about the baby, assuming she will be the godmother. Espe asks if she’d like that and Teresa responds that she’d like nothing more than to spoil him, shower him with gifts and above all, defend him from Ruben. Espe thanks her and Teresa thought bubbles that she hopes the godfather will be Mariano.

Hospital: Mariano and Aurora are talking business and she asks if he knows about Teresa’s trip. Mariano wishes she’d leave the country for good so he would never have to see her again. And like a bad penny, Aida turns up. Aeeeeeeda! Her entrances are starting to remind me of Kramer on Seinfeld! She announces that now that Ruben is in charge of the foundation, she will head the public relations department. She’s excited about lining up more donors, promoting the pediatric ward and thereby promoting Aurora and Mariano. She kisses him again and Aurora looks away. Avert your eyes!

Casa Barrera: Refugio is there and Juana tells about Hector’s surprise announcement regarding his divorce. Refugio asks what she plans to do about her feelings for Cutberto. Before she can answer, Teresa and Espe join them. They talk about the trip and she asks Refugio what she’d like from Europe. Refugio only wants for Teresa and Arturo to be reconciled. Arturo walks in saying he’s all packed and ready to go as soon as he returns from a meeting. Refugio takes her leave and tearfully blesses Teresa. Everyone leaves and Teresa comments on how everyone has come by to wish them well on their trip. Arturo says even Oriana called but figured it was best not to pass her on to Teresa. Teresa complains they will be in Spain for a month and that woman didn’t even offer one of her houses for their stay. And why? Because she knew Teresa would be there as his wife!

Speaking of the Momzilla, she tells Fernando she spoke with Arturo by phone earlier. Fernando wonders why she didn’t go in person. Oriana admits she didn’t want to pretend (fingir) in front of Teresa. Fernando is frustrated and asks if she’s ever going to try to get to know Teresa. Why should she when she’s not a hypocrite like Tere? It’s a good thing he found such a nice girl like Luisa because if he had chosen Teresa as her daughter-in-law, she would disinherit him! So there!

Previews for tomorrow show Fito coming to ruin Teresa’s trip and possibly her marriage!

Jero, is riding home and gets thrown from his horse and gets back on and keeps riding, (not sure what the point of that was, I was hoping he would hit his head and wake up with a brain and a personality, but gotta keep waiting)

Arely is in Auggie’s office and finds something very interesting, information on annulments and she gets mad cause she realizes that he loves Renata.

Fina is talking to the attorney about the pre-nup, she is looking it over and seems very happy about it. She tells her to sign it.

Adriana is very excited, Blanca is getting very touchy feeley and he does not like it, he keeps mentioning his wife and that they are going away for the weekend, but Blanca has other ideas and suggests that they should not leave Adriana out of their plans.

Chema is trying to swim laps, but has a surprise guest (I think it is the girl he dumped, but i’m drawing a blank on her name). who he does not want to see, so he swims off.

Honorio pays the bill, He tells Adriana that she would like where they are going, and she says it sounds great and, he suggests that she go with them the next time they go. Before she leave she asks where they will live and he says their home, they have their own rooms there and she tells him she knows he is only doing this out of obligation and that she knows how he feels about her, but she loves him(yuck) and she wants him to give them a chance. She leaves and Matias looks unmoved. ( I think he looks nausea)

Regina is feeding Antonio, he wants her to continue with the wedding plans, and she says they should wait till he is better. The Dr, tells them that things are good and that Antonio is going to make it.

Arely, is grilling Auggie and Renata about what they are doing. She wants to know what Renata’s intentions are. Is she staying, going etc.. Renata says that she wants to settle things here and then go back. Arely looks on as she watches Renata open a cell phone from Auggie.

Carlos walks in on Jerko doing shots. He tells Carlos that she is with Auggie, Carlos (aka the voice of reason) tells him that it’s his fault (there is a concept) and he of course tells him not to say stupid things (ha take your own advice and just don’t talk for the rest of the novela, we can hope right?) and leaves with his bottle.

Roberta is ambushed at her car by Diego who is still after her about being his accomplice, and she throws an invitation at him and he laughs, he congratulates her on getting into the company and the family. She tells him it will be the event of the year and only special people are invited. She talks more about how lucky people will be to be invited and then gets in her car and leaves.

Jero is drowning his sorrows in a bottle, and Mati wants to go comfort him, but Carlos makes her leave him alone.

Renata plugs in her new phone and is also reflecting about Jerko, pulls out the stone and rubs it and cries.

Auggie and Dr creepy, are talking about what Jero knows or doesn’t know about Rafa and how he died, Auggie tells him not to worry, he won’t say anything about Rafa, but Ezekiel overhears everything.

Jerko is still drinking, Arely shows up (this can’t be good) He tells her he is very upset and she grabs his bottle, ( don’t mess with a man’s bottle) she says she hates them both they struggle over the bottle and she kisses him and he kisses her back ( WOW kinda saw that coming, but still WOW)

Renata and Adriana are talking on the phone Renata asks how everybody is, especially Matias, Adriana tells her they broke up, they talk about the wedding and Renata tells her she is really glad to talk to her, she doesn’t know how glad.

Jero breaks the kiss and apologizes, he was just upset. Arely says that they have a right to be upset there other halves are together without them. Jero says he loves one woman with all his heart and only one woman. She gets mad and stomps off.

Gonzo finds Regina in the Cafeteria, and asks how Antonio is doing, she says he is fine. He asks how she is doing and she says she can’t talk about herself right now, she is to pre-occupied with Antonio and her daughter. Gonzo gets excited and asks her what news she has about her daughter.

A detective is on the phone asking questions about Fina, he is investigating her and needs information.

Gonzo tells Regina that he is going to help her with the search for her daughter, she has to much on her plate and he insists on helping. She hesitates, but eventually allows him to help so she can focus on Antonio.

Roberts gives the pre-nup to Fina and tells her that Diego is still harassing her, and Fina says that Matias and Gonzo can’t ever be near him. Roberta asks mom for help. (Mom’s help= bye bye Diego)

Constanza surprises Honorio at his office in a sexy dress to take him to dinner. That is until Blanca comes in an pops her ballon, tells her all about there lunch celebrating Adriana and her new last name. Constanza is not in the romantic mood anymore and tells Honorio that is past keeps getting in there way.

Ezekiel and Alfonsina are talking over dinner and he tells her that he know that Dr.Creepy is responsible for the death of Rafa. They talk about what a rat he is and that Auggie is his accomplice and they are both bad, but they don’t know what to do about it.

Kari is getting ready to go meet her hubby to clear things up, but Lazaro does not like that idea, but she assures him that she is done with him and that she is going to end it.

Renata is having dinner with Arely and Auggie, Arely gets up and leaves telling her that she is tired and doesn’t want to est. Renata tries to talk to her, but she keeps walking. Renata tells Auggie that she knows Arely is not happy with her there and that he needs to do something about it.

Carlos and Mati put a very drunk Jero to bed, he goes on and on about Renata and Carlos tells him she is a good person and that love is not their problem, but trust. Jero needs to end his revenge ( he doesn’t listen sober, why would he listen drunk? just saying)

Kari is talking with Dr.Creepy who is telling her that they are married forever. She says that there is no reason for them to be together, they have no children and he says that he wants to have a child, they can adopt a baby.

Carlos is trying to comfort Mati who is upset that Jerko still loves Renata. He tells her that it is a love that is not possible, because Jero will never return her feelings and that her love is a fantasy.

Renata is doing her make-up (love the shameless plug for Garnier) Arely comes in and Renata asks her is being there is bothering her and she says yes, because Auggie is in love with her and she wants her out now and to never return.

Triunfo del Amor #159 7/5/11 Just FF>> to the end....trust me.

  • Maria tries to convince Fer that Cruz loves her and she shouldn't be pushing him away. Fer says no. Ever since the recording career started things have been different. Hardly home, stopped coming with her to therapy. Fer says she even saw Fer and Diana-ho kissing.
  • Millie gets the word about the operation. Jarochas come back from someplace with the gossip rag. Millie mini-freaks.
  • Cruz storms into Diana-ho's office. He's peesed.
  • Os is leaving the house. He has no other choice. He tells Vic she has every right to be happy. Vic is confused. Os says she won't forgive him. She says no, she's forgiven him. She forgave him a long time ago and just didn't realize it. For her part everything is forgiven (srsly? We put up with all that crap and you say you forgave him a long time ago? grrrrr. Damn you TdA...I can't quit you!) He was right, she can't be forgiven if she is not capable of forgiving. Os asks if she has forgiven him with all her heart. She's not just saying words into the wind? Yup she really has. No bitterness or anything. She doesn't remember how much he hurt her (or something like that.)
  • Cruz is still fussin'. I don't pay close attention to what Diana-ho has to say. She slimes on him. She tells him she can make him a big star or ruin him. His choice. He gives her the stink eye, pushes her away and leaves. Diana-ho tells herself he will eventually fall for her "charms." pppht.
  • Maria asks Fer is she's talked to Cruz. She says no. Maria holds up her story with Max as an object lesson. Confront and Clarify is her motto....yeah...riiiight.
  • Don Tonto Joel and Jarochas while Chente convinces Napo to declare himself to Millie.
  • Os asks about Dr. Voice. Vic is happy when she's with him. Warm fuzzies blah blah blah. She's just not sure if it's love. Os won't stand in her way if her happiness is with Dr. Voice. (I'm Team Os....just sayin')
  • Vic flashes back to the good times and the bad times with both Os and Dr. Voice. She decides to go talk to PJP.
  • Dr. Voice is thinking of Vic. He lerves her. He cancels the rest of his appointments. He's gonna....
  • Napo is still muy pollón, but he wants Millie to marry him. She has to think about it.
  • ....take a walk and remember his first wife who conveniently told him to find someone after she goes. Since his wife died, he hadn't found a woman that could make him feel the way Vic did. I think he's gonna make her choose between him and Os (I'm team Os, this means Vic will end up with Voice.)
  • PJP tells Vic to let her heart guide her.
  • Voice is back home after his walk and Leo comes to visit.
  • Gui is whining to Burnie about Os screwing up his premiere. Gui kinda has her by the you know whats because of the DVD. She sort of hopes he goes to jail and gets a taste of what she suffers. She hates traitors like him. Gui reminds her about her role in the kidnapping. Burnie finally dismisses him. Gui makes a threat as he leaves. Burnie just says they'll both go down. After he leaves she tells her letter opener that no one can destroy Burnie de Iturbide.
  • Max visits PJP for some counsel too. Max is torn between his two moms. They talk moms for a bit. PJP says we've both got crazy moms, but we need to be grateful they gave us life.
  • Leo whines to Dr Voice about hurting Max and  her problems quitting alcohol. She tells Dr. Voice he doesn't understand what it's like. He says he does because he to was once duhn duhn duhn an alcoholic!
  • We get a  random scene with the thugs who have a phone video of Linda-ho's "accident." He's talking about it 'cause he saw a girl that reminded him of Xi (but she was disguised, right?) He says he would totally remember/recognize her if he saw her.
  • Speaking of Xi. She and Gui blah blah in the parking deck. She gets all "how was the premiere?" He pulls out the dagger that is supposed to be a prop. Xi cuts her self, bleeds. They get turned on. Ewww.
  • Dr. Voice helps Leo with her affirmations so she won't be a drunk anymore.
  • At a magazine stand, Max sees the article about Diana-ho and Cruz at...who conveniently walks up. Max yells at him. Cruz says it's a lie. Max reminds Cruz that the whole Linda business was a direct result of fame. People will prey on Cruz. Max will not stand by and watch his sister suffer like his mom did. Cruz says he's headed over to get everything cleared up if Max wants to come along.
  • Burnie hears about Os' accident on the set. She says it's divine punishment that he deserves.
  • Max and Cruz are in the magazine offices and they want a retraction. The editor tells Cruz Diana-ho was the "source." Cruz wants them to print that he is happily married to his florecita. Later, Max asks Cruz  if sacrificing his happiness with Fer is worth the fame.
  • Vic and Fer are gabbing in the hospital. Max brings Cruz in and asks Vic if she will give them a little privacy. Fer asks who's side Max is on. Max says the side of truth. Before Max leaves, he tells Fer not to be impulsive and to listen. Cruz tries to explain. Fer sings her "I'm a cripple" song. Cruz begs. Fer tells him to leave. He leaves. They each cry on opposite sides of the door.
  • After the commercial break, Nati and Maria are talking on the phone. Nati is telling Maria that Cruz is packing and getting ready to leave forever. Maria repeats this info... that he's leaving for Rancho Childe (?) Luckily Fer eavesdrops and hears that part before Maria continues the convo outside Fer's room. Fer drags herself out of the bed and into the wheelchair. She dresses and sneaks out of the hospital. The takes a cab to the bus station. We see her begging to get past security. She is denied, but a passenger with a question distracts the guard. Fer wheels her way to the terminal where Cruz is sitting in his bus waiting for it to leave. Of course, he doesn't see her. She keeps screaming "Cruz!" She decides to get up out of the chair. Several minutes of struggling, falling, crawling and me sitting on the edge of my seat screaming inwardly "Cruz!!!! Look!!! Loook!!!!" (Hubs was asleep, I couldn't yell out loud.) Finally Cruz turns around and sees Fer struggling. Several minutes of Cruz begging the bus driver to open the door. I'm screaming too. Finally Cruz gets of the damn bus and runs to his florecita. Smoochies, mi riqueza and love talk. I'm squeeing and ginning like a fool.
Sweet Mush Mouth Levy in a Kayak!

Avances
  • Vic is gonna triumph
  • Max and Voice face off
  • The cat fight we've been waiting for!!

Cuando Me Enamoro #53-54 Monday 7/4/11 07/04 Mon. – Independence Day - But Who Is Free

Now we have capitulo 53. I wll try to fill in 54 with more detail on Wed. for posterity but meanwhle thanks for all the help to fill in events.

From last week: The great rescue is underway, Carlos and Jero leave a perplexed Matilde saying they are going out. The orange negligee and ecru neck brace clad Renata climbs painfully into her bed, instantly asleep. Arely springs her poolside wine and kisses ruse on Augustin. Next we see feet approach the unlocked gate, and pass through closing but not locking. The camera slowly pans over to sleeping beauty just as Jero wraps her in her blanket and she weakly protests, don’t take me as he sweeps her out of the door only to meet the business end of Ezek’s polished shot gun.

Meanwhile back at casa MonteLoco, Roberta continues her harangue about her poor sweet Mamie missing. Her acting is having its intended effect on Pappy Gonzo and to a lesser extent on Consta y Honorio y Matias, but when Gonzo says perhaps Fina’s doctor will have a better idea of where she may be, Roberta asks what does her doctor have to do with anything. Gonzo sputters while Consta says, it’s time to tell Roberta the truth. He tenderly delivers the news that her mother doesn’t want her to know that she is suffering from a brain tumor. Roberta in her finest staged whine of distress says “no puede ser” it can’t be, my Mommy can’t be this ill. She blames her mother’s behavior on her fear that Gonzo is ready to leave her for that rat Regina. But this isn’t true is it? Gonzo assures that room that he only went to Regina to help her fly the gravely gored Antonio to a city hospital for lifesaving treatment, nothing more. Roberta with her pretty face twisted by its accustomed spite, spits out that her ma’s disappearance is totally his fault, he should have been concerned only for her every whim not the Rat Regina’s Agonized Antonio. It’s all your fault, she runs up the stairs.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, Jero with his pretty face twisted by spite spits out to rifle toting Ezequiel that he has come to rescue HIS wife and he isn’t leaving without her while Renata’s ecru collared neck flops painfully and the men argue the finer points of trespass –vs- rescue. The gun goes off scaring the waiting Carlos and interrupting the kissing Arely and Aug. It even wakes up the drugged Renata who insists that she does not want to leave or be rescued. Jero leaves in a huff, Aug looks vaguely pleased, Renata looks devastated but firm.

In a restaurant, Fina gets a blink blink, it’s a text message from Roberta that Gonzo has arrived from the cucaracha Regina. Satisfied grins light the room. Said cucaracha at the hospital tries to get information from the nurse on Antonio without success. Mama and Inez worry but Inez discusses her conversation with Isidro that their son is worried about Antonio but is doing okay with his father. She shares that he is so brave about the coming bone marrow transplant treatment without complaint (sin queharse). She also dreads the month of isolation he will face and they will have to endure. Regina and her mom console Inez and are sure the treatment will be a success, Inez responds that the same will be true of Antonio so his goring will soon be a memory with only a scar (cicatriz). Isidro and hijo who assures his pappy that he is no longer afraid of having leukemia but he at first thought it was his fault that he had done something bad. He has learned from films that the bad people are usually the ones that die of an illness but he doesn’t believe it anymore. Isidro tells him that illness and death are parts of life and it is an opportunity to distinctly know the value of life and to discover his mission in life. The sweet scene ends with father and son exclaiming that each is the best son/father in the world and they love each other. Nice relief from the rancorous scene at MonteLoco.

Fina returns with feigned innocence at everyone’s concern that she disappeared. She baby talks that she doesn’t know where she went, why is everyone in such a shortstwisting mood? Well, Roberta announces that they were just excited to share the engagement of her and Matias whom she squeezes in a half hammer lock of luvvvvv… Fina goes up to dress up acting quite confused, Gonzo goes to call the doctor to tell him Fina returned, Consta wants to clear out but Roberta begs them all to stay as a family to support her poor Mom she hugs a reluctant Matias again in front of all while a saddened Adriana looks on.

Oh lordy so much sickness: back at the ranch, Augie Doggie is promising Renata that Jero will never again enter his hacienda without his prior authorization! Renata is beaming that she felt the love from jero’s rescue attempt and Arely assures her he really showed his love but Augie insists with finger wagging that it only showed that this domineering man was asserting his rights over his wife whom he regards as his property which he intends to control (and he should know, no?). Augie shifts to assuring her she only has to ask for anything at all that she needs. Renata thanks them both pointedly for all they have done for her but Augie strong arms Arely so he can get her out of the room too. Arely weakly submits. Renata looks pensive while in Augies office he questions Ezek to discover how this breach of security occurred. Ezek insists he had checked the locks and alarms but it was turned off, he thought he was encountering a robber. Augie shakes fingers again that Ezek is to question every worker to find out what they saw and he is determined to find out who was the TRAITOR here, he and Arely share stern looks.

Back at La Bonita, Matilde and Manuela want to know what happened that he tried to rescue his wife but Jero wants to go sleep and demands that there be no gossiping (chismes) over this event. Matilde walks away seeing Jero hold his head in his hands. For once she seems to realize that she isn’t significant here.

The MonteLoco diningroom becomes a macabre scene of family dining. Fina feigns sensitivity while rubbing in that now even Adriana’s appearance as Honorio’s daughter must make the barren Consta feel a bit family like. Ewwww, indigestable conversation, eh? The blessed Adriana adds that Renata is missing from this family gathering and she must want to know of the impending marriage of her dear sister. Gonzo promises to call Renata, her cell phone might be missing but Fina settles the unknown by insisting that the lack of contact from Renata means that she doesn’t care about any of them and has no interest in how they are doing, period. Consta says perhaps Renata did not get the messages to call home. Fina says it’s obvious that Renata is merely showing her lack of love for the family. Roberta doesn’t miss a beat in assuring her auntie that her mom is always right and Renata is showing her lack of concern in their lives. (Shudders and a sense of dread for dessert, anyone?)

The doctor delivers the news that Antonio is barely out of danger but his situation is still grave. Mama wants to know when they can go in to see Antonio. Doc says the first 72 hours are critical for his recuperation they need to see how the medications are taking hold maybe they can visit him tomorrow.

Sunlight shines on the vineyard while Lazaro and Cari stroll among the vines. He chants about cariño, Cariña and he confesses his true love for her. He asks if she can imagine how their love and life could be as we are whisked into a dream sequence of the lovers in embrace being serenaded by the romantic Juan Luis Guerra right there in the vineyard.

53, Part 2:
Renata finally reaches Adriana and the worried friends make plans to share all the strange happenings in both hacienda and city. Renata promises to tell of her problems but first must beg Adriana to tell no one but to get some information for her that she will send her by email.

Manuela serves breakfast and some motherly/womanly advise with Jero. She wants to counsel him as though he were her son. He agrees to humor her. She lets him know that women want to be the boss of their own life and be the property of nobody. She asks if she should stop or go on. Go on, he says. She observes that with his attitude, every time he acts like he owns Renata he pushes her further away. He sees this but can’t stand the fact that she has fled to the hacienda (arms) of Augustin. She adds that if he loves Renata he needs to change his tactics or Augustin will win her away. Manuela notes that Renata has so much dignity. Augustin looks thoughtful and understanding for the moment but we know that might be an illusion.

Egad, Alfonsina is seeking counsel again from the Padre who thinks she is continuing her strange fantasies. Apparently she doesn’t have a lot of insight either but goes on to tell Padre that she was pretending that her story of lust and unfaithfulness was a fantasy with telenovelas (seems plausible to me) but in reality she really has committed sins with a real doctor and has betrayed her marriage and her best friend. Padre is muy impactada to learn that it is his idol, Dr. Alvaro. She slept with him and betrayed her friend Carina.

Carina is escorted by the love besotted Lazaro who promises to come back to pick her up from Augies that evening. As he drives off Dr. Sleeze sidles up to see if she has made up her mind to come back to him. Definitely NOT, and quit pressuring me, she returns. Meanwhile the Padre is becoming as purple as his prayer shawl and declares that it would be a disaster to make a public revelation of all this slimy sin but she must promise to never, never do it again. It will take much penitence to erase this grave sin. She adds that she didn’t love him but Alvaro forced her to continue to do the nasty.

We find out that Adriana seeks out Matias to have him find out how much of a fortune Jero has since he knew him in

Arely tells Jero that the hacienda is now being guarded carefully. He worries that Renata risks danger but Arely says you are the one who is in danger. Augustin will be the most dangerous of enemies. (No kidding! Some of us already have suspected this.)

Back at the hospital, Regina recounts that Antonio only reprised his toreador life to show is love for her (and the crowd yells, not such a wise method) and now Antonio’s life hangs in the balance. Inez sagely answers that nothing is certain in life but how do you feel. Regina confesses that she was ready to terminate their relationship but with his condition she can’t bring herself to end it. Inez knows she wouldn’t want to feel more guilty. (is anyone else getting the scent of inconvenient person here?). Regina kindly says that Antonio’s demonstration of love through the bull fight and the wedding plans is his way to get over the tragic loss of his family. Regina wonders when she can get out of this but Inez assures her that she will know when and can’t do it earlier or later than when the time is right. She thanks Inez for being such a good friend, what would she do without her. Inez urges her to go home to take a bath and change clothes.

Back to the harpy nest. Roberta wants to talk wedding dresses but Fina is in a snit. She knows that Gonzo is with her because he feels obligated not because he loves her. Roberta chimes in that it is equal to her situation with Matias but she can’t really complain as things are moving along. Fina still complains that Gonzo is more concerned with being at Regina’s side and this is not turning out as she intended. Roberta gives her a kiss and tries to cheer her up with the news that the photos she got of Consta and Chema are ready for exposing and ruining the marriage of her fox of an aunty when the good Honorio sees the evidence of Consta’s infanticide (killing the baby part of Chema? I guess). Oh no, no Fina insists that this is not the time to spring a side show when she needs all the attention on herself. In fact it is best if Roberta gives her the photos so she can control the timing, obviously not trusting Roberta to pull off such a dirty trick while she is still in training to be a bigger monster. She doesn’t want to disappoint stalker BFF but Fina puts her foot down that her fidelity is with HER.

Consta and Honorio show up at the hospital to check with Regina on Antonio’s condition. She was just on her way home to bath and rest since he seems out of the worst danger. Just behind them is Gonzo who swoops in with an offer to drive her to her bath… but she thanks him that he has done too much. If not for his efforts to transport Antonio, he would not be alive. She will never forget his kindness and Inez has loaned her car. But Gonzo begs to be her driver, C and H look a bit uncomfortable but his earnest look sways.

Back to the Baja, Ezekiel confides in Lazaro that he has nothing against Jeronimo but was following orders of Augustin’s. Lazaro says our bosses will have rows (broncas) but we should not have to fight among ourselves. You, Alfonsina, Carina, Matilde and I have been friends and love each other. We are not people to fight. Ezek, asks about Carina taking refuge at La Bonita with Jero’s permission when Augie drove her off, but Lazaro says in reality it was Renata who gave Carina permission to come there. The two continue to agree that they should not take on the fights of the two patrones.

Regina shows up at home and finds a box on the table that scares her but with her Mom, the box is opened to reveal the wedding dress. Mom worries about postponing the wedding while Antonio recovers. Regina cares only about him and her daughter. Mom goes shopping and Regina clutches the dress saying Antonio with such sadness.

Speaking of sad, Renata quietly creeps into La Bonita while their sad song ushers in Jero who comes forward eagerly, you have returned!. She places a hand on his chest. As they gaze sadly, we switch to a sad looking Augie who makes a phone call to Gonzo who is surprised to hear from him. He assures Gonzo that he is a great friend still of Renata and for this reason he wants to invite him and the family to the wine harvest (vindimia) of the Valley of Guadelupe to surprise Renata. He also wants to invite the family to stay in his hacienda Cruz de Amor to give Renata a thrill.

Renata looks anything but thrilled as she asks Jero why he pretended to be bankrupt and lied to her. He protests that it was only because he wanted to be sure she was marrying him for love. She answers that of course she only married him for love and she had great hopes of a full life loving but no she has been met with tricks and lies on his part. He says she lied first telling him she was named Adriana, but Renata isn’t taking this stupid line, let’s be adults, no this lie didn’t really hurt anyone but his lies are hurtful with evil intention. His defence is that he was sure she was after money and can she deny that she was ambitious (oh pleeeeze). You rejected real love why did you reject Rafa. She is surprised and demands to know how his dead brother Rafa has anything at all to do with their relationship. Gee, guess we are headed toward a big party.

La Pola - June 27-July 1, 2011 - A Revolution Without a Leader; Hell Burns in Sámano's Eyes; Will Love Conquor All?

Summary: The lines are drawn as the revolution begins. Trouble brews in the palace when the vireina is exposed as a cheat. Alejo realizes that he will always love Pola and finally reads the letter. Nariño must be released from jail as he is the choice of the junta to lead the revolution. The crowd gets out of control, and we see Hell in Sámano’s eyes.

MONDAY

A letter arrives for the viceroy from Popayan. This is just what I need, he says.

In Santa Fé Pola just misses seeing Alejo – she walks away from Arcos who flirts with her and calls him a saltimbuco (jerk) like you, turns away and Alejo catches up with Arcos.

At the manse Leandro will not let his father see the letter. After all that I did for you. What did you do for me, ask Leandro. You prevented me from getting married and having a family. You did all that for Alejo – you never thought about me. I wanted to solve family problems, says Francisco. Alejo has always been better than me. I am going to dedicate myself to living for pleasure.

Domingo tells Gertrudis that he is going to fix Juliano forever. The galeno has to look at Cata to find out why she doesn’t get pregnant. Look at her? When he realizes where, he says no. She doesn’t treat me like she loves me. Gertrudis suggests that he take a bath so that he doesn’t stink like a horse; buy some more elegant clothes, and get some of the tobacco stains off his teeth. So, if I do these things, will Cata love me. Yes, real soon.

Bernarda and Nicolasa help clean up Juliano. He got this for a look. Is that true, Juliano. You must act differently. Why would a woman like that look at me? So, can this woman have him beaten at will, says Nicolasa. Juliano tells her that this is the life we have. She is encaprichada (betwitched) with you, replies Nicolasa.

Santa Fé: The troops march into the city. Baraya goes to the front and calls a halt. He calls Alejo – we haven’t met. Accompany me, he says to Alejo. After hearing about what happened to you in Madrid, It is clear that you support the king to the death. It is more difficult now that France is involved. Can I confide in you, alférez?

Sámano arrives at the palace. What’s happening. Una sublevación (insurrection, revolt) in Quito. The people in jail are dead. Oidor Jurado says this is a very grave accusation. Do you susggest that we march against Popayan. We must find out if Tacón followed the law. The other governor says Jurado doesn’t have enough experience. Sámano sneers at the death of those men The creoles are cowards. Her majesty: we have confusing information that we cannot confirm. Vireina to the viceroy: they have a right to know. Napoleon threw Fernando VII off the throne. There is no government. Now they have a French king. Sámano – Spain has a French king. If the creoles find out about this they will take over here. Her majesty advises that it is very important that nobody find out about this.

Baraya – we want to be sure our country doesn’t fall into French hands. Some of the officials have shown sympathy for France, and Sámano is inciting the Viceroys – can we count on you, he asks Alejo. Sámano is as against France as we are, says Alejo. Alejo tells Baraya that he has his word. Iglesias takes note as he lurks in a corner.

Palace –What would happen if France takes over? What would we do asks governor Jurado. Vireina: America is condemned to the same fate at Spain. What do we do asks Jurado again. The viceroy will let them know as the solution will arrive when it should. Now, this info must not leave this room.

Prison – Báltasar is let out for some some air and sunshine, but Nariño is denied this privilege.

Magda teaches her daughter how to sew. A letter arrives for Magda. It is the governor’s reply to our pleas: …I am very sorry I cannot help you. I have orders .. I understand your pain .. .When are they going to let him out, mama, asks the little girl. Magda shakes her head.

In Popayan Ignacia is packing. Francisco enters – you don’t seem to be happy about your trip. I am not. Aren’t you going to Peru. No – to the convent. The only way to save this marriage is to do what Gaspar requires. Do you think so. Alejo will not go after the mestiza. I am going to pray for him every day so that he doesn’t end up with her. It would have to look like Alejo is crazy for you for your father to allow you two together, but, she doesn’t understand. Men like women they have to conquer. But for me he is life or death. No, says Francisco, for Alejo it is a question of life or death – not for you

As Sámano gets all dressed up in civilian clothes Iglesias passes on info to him that Sabaraín talked to Baraya. It appears that they know each other, reports Iglesias. Nobody must know about this. Where are you going. To Don Jorge’s. He packs a pistol. I am sure that the info that I carry with me will have the impact that I want the creoles to feel, and that the viceroys will put the fate of this country in my hands.

Arco walks down the street smiling. Was it a girl, Alejo asks. Yes. All you want to talk about is girls. And what about Pola? Alejo doesn’t want to talk about that subject.

Pola is helping Facundo arrange fruit. An official by the name of Llorentes approaches and asks him to pay taxes. She tries to find out what is happening and is told not to interfere. Carbonel listens. She keeps butting in and clearly annoys the man. She gets in an argument – you peninsulares think you have blue blood and that the rest of us have blood like tomatoes.

At Jorge’s, Sámana says the American land belongs to our king. France is sending emissaries to get this land. Fernando VII did not get the throne back. I am not disposed to betray Spain. Nor are we, says Jorge. The viceroys are prepared to defend it to death. You could end up like the people of Quito – in prison, ask Jorge? – no dead.

A young boy asks Arco and Alejo to break up a disturbance in the market.

Jorge tells his friends – well you heard it. And the viceroy is doing nothing. The French king is not legitimate. We will not permit it. Our moment of power has arrived.

The official – what you are saying is very serious. We are not going to stop annoying this chapetón (a European lately arrived in America). I am saying the truth – thief. We are not going to permit you to abuse us.

Alejo and Arco arrive. Both Alejo and Pola look shocked. Arco looks pleased.

The revolutionaries conclude that to take power, they have to have the support of the people. Why does Sámano have so much information. He doesn’t want to help the French. Maybe what he wants is for us to reveal ourselves so that he can take the power of the viceroys. If Sámano takes power there will be too much bloodshed. Baraya will do everything to avoid it.

Pola looks at Alejo like they are in a different world. Lloretes wants Alejo to take her prisoner.

Gaspar – what are you doing María Ignacia? These are my clothes. Gaspar – you are not going on vacation. She sends them back. Acacia is left to care for Francisco and María Teresa.

The ruckus continues in the market. Who called who a thief and chapatón? I don’t ask pardon of anyone. Alferez – do your duty, says Llorentes. I will jail you too, Alejo replies. What is your name – Alejo Sabaraín. He turns away from Pola. She says thanks for defending me. What are you doing in Santa Fe? He asks. Have you married? She wants to know. Why are you offending a peninsular? Didn’t you receive my letter, asks Pola? You wrote that I robbed your honor, says Alejo. You don’t understand, she says, but finally she sees how angry he is and how futile the conversation has gotten and replies, Yes I said it.. Arco asks her if she remembers him – your future husband.

Nariño says he may not have sun, but he will not die of hunger. Báltasar is feeding me. Tonito brings him food. They have left our mother nothing to sell, says Tonito. She needs help urgently.

Magda faints in the kitchen. Her nose is bleeding.

Tonito tells his father that he will not leave. Have you heard anything about what is happening in Cartagena. Yes, says Tonito, the commission looks on Cartagena favorably – the junta. It is because the situation in Spain is very serious, says Nariño.

The revolutionaries believe it is the moment for them to form a junta Americana. Carbonel is closest to the people in town. People will follow you. Carbonel is firm. He does not want to form a government with the viceroys. Jorge calls him bruto (course), and Carbonel agrees. When they agree to dispose of the viceroys, Carbonel agrees to work with them.

In preison Nariño asks if there will be a similar junta in Santa Fé. What bothers me says Tonito is that you are not there. You are the best fighter for human rights. Baraya, Carbonel, Petrona –people may not follow them.

Jorge – Get rid of the vr – yes, why not. The viceroy depends on Spain. And Spain must not continue deciding our destiny. Jorge – it would be wonderful to make our own decisions. We have to convince the people that a junta would act in their best interest without all these taxes. Carbonel – can we count on you. Yes, I know a lot of people like Jorge.

Pola runs after Alejo – please let me explain. There is nothing to explain. I don’t want to talk to you. She is deeply hurt – why are you crying, he asks. Ever Since the last time I saw you I imagined what it would be like to see you, but this is a nightmare. It doesn’t matter. Are you already married. He lies. Yes, I’m already married and I shouldn’t talk to a woman. I understand, says Pola. She wishes him happiness – that he wil be very happy. Thank you. Arcos is angry. Pola is devastated.

The little family gathering, including Acacia arrives at the convent. Your father made an agreement with the mother superior for a year – you have to understand. When the punishment is over I promise it will be as before. Gaspar tells Ignacia that this is for her own good. Ignacia still insists that the mestiza, the mestiza caused this. Gaspar – you are righr Eusebia says that a year will pass quickly.

Cata finishes praying. Nicolasa arrives and wants to know what she is doing. She will not take the drink from Nic. Nic – you are crazy because Juliano will not pay attention to you. Cata – you are ridiculous. Nicolasa tells her that Juliano will never love her. Cata says I am beautiful and distinguished I am a doña. You are a slave. But, Nicolasa end it with your husband promised that our child would be free.

TUESDAY

Gertrudis wants t know what Nicolasa said to Cata, but Cata just says “nothing.”

Pola asks Alejo, can’t we be friends. Our destinies cross. You cannot find another unconditional friend, she pleads.

I will consider it, says Alejo, but the feelings between you and me have changed. He takes the medal and his fingers linger and touch hers.

In the convent Ignacia is dressed as a nun. She shouts out ‘’isn’t anybody going to speak to me while I am here?” She screams get me out of here.

Carbonel promises his band of brothers that he will go house to house and village to village to win support. They all agree that Sámano must not find out. Carbonel admits that he knows his limitations and that everyone should decide what type of government they should have. Jorge, the snob, says everybody, like artists and workmen? Finally, they all agree that the village should decide. Then they want Nariño to be the leader. They plan to free him from prison.

Domingo goes to see the mayor who is very busy, but not too busy to ask if Domingo knows anything about Pola. Nada, says Domingo. Domingo asks the mayor where he gets his clothes.

Anyway, the other three revolutionaries know that they need Carbonel. But, Jorge says that with Carbonel, we open the door for Nariño. They also have to insure that Baraya won’t let Sámano create a river of blood.

At the royal palace, the vireina and Sámano converse. He asks: Do you think the creoles merit a lesson? But, the dear lady still does not want to risk her fortune. She still warns him to be sure that they don’t find out what is going on in Spain (they already know it). He still wants to know the threat she is concerned about. Tell me, he demands, but she will not do that.

Meanwhile Sr. Portacarrero goes to the palace, and the town gossips note his presence.

Gaspar gives papers from Spain to Francisco and tells him how to manage the house and slaves. He also tells Francisco to be careful with the paintings (cuadros) while Eusebia tells María Teresa about the care and feeding of Ignacia’s piano.

You really don’t trust us, says Francisco. Rest assured, we will take care of everything. Gaspar tells him that it is very hard for him to accept that Francisco got his daughter to lie. Francisco just makes up another story. Yes, I know, says Gaspar – you did it just to spare Alejo from the mestiza. Francisco says that he has spent the better part of his life separating Alejo from the mestiza.

Arcos defends Pola. Alejo tells him that Pola is the woman who stole his heart. But, you told her you were married. She is very clever, says Alejo. She accused me of robbing her honor, and she took money from my father. My brother said he saw her living with slaves. But, you told me you didn’t trust your brother. Arcos says that she doesn’t look like a liar to him. Do you think she would have returned the medal to you? And then Iglesias arrives on the scene and tells Alejo that Sámano wants to see him.

Pola walks down the street crying. She stops at a corner and Carbonel arrives on the scene. He asks permission to speak to her. She, of course, wants to speak to him. He wants to know if she is still interested in their cause. They need the support of the people. She says she can pull them in and raise their spirits (enredar and animar). Llorente (tax collector) is userero (unscrupulous money lender). You can count on me. Petra lurks in the background.

Domingo arrives at the homestead dressed as a fop. Cata stifles a laugh. He wants to know if she likes what she sees. You’re very elegant. Did your title arrive? (Apparently Domingo has been trying to buy a title.) No, he says, it is very difficult for things to arrive from Spain.

As Gaspar and Eusebia leave the mansion, she asks that when María Ignacia completes her punishment, will you reconsider? Eusebia still thinks she can change his mind, and Gaspar ends the conversation with “…as long as it doesn’t cost me another dowry.”

Domingo tells Gertrudis that marrying Cata was a mistake and that she will never look at him.

Sámano asks Alejo about the incident in the market. We only believe the word of the noble, not the chuspa (peasants). Do you understand? Do you understand? Why didn’t you detain the girl?

Meanwhile Petra goes through Pola’s box, and she finds Matea’s earrings. Pola enters and asks what she is doing. You stole them from Matea. Enter Matea – I gave them to her. Why don’t you like Pola, asks Matea. The mestizos are not to be trusted, says Petra. From this day on Matea tells her that she has to get along with Pola. When Pola and Matea are alone, Pola asks Matea if she has eve given Petra a dress or earrings. No. Maybe that’s it. Then she tells Matea that Alejo is in Santa Fé.

None of your explanations suffice for not detaining the girl. That girl incited the people against peninsular Llorente. I am going to give you another chance. This land belongs to Spain, and the Spanish get preferences in everything. We will soon have you fight for this land against those who would take it. There will be rivers of blood (we’ve heard that before).

Pola tells Matea that she returned the medal. He married. I knew this was going to happen. He never trusted me. Matea tells her to forgive this society that judges on the color of skin. Now things have changed. They are going to form an American junta. They want me to help. If these plans happen, Nariño will return.

Magda talks about the possibility of a junta, also, and that if their father decides to do it, they will support him. Her nose bleeds again. The maid tells the children that happens when people don’t eat.

Francisco asks the maid for the keys to wine cellar. He is all dressed up in Gaspar’s clothes and he tells María Teresa not to wait for him for dinner. She is appalled because they promised to take care of things, including Gaspar’s clothes.

Cata whips herself again. She is going for purification. What is wrong with me? She wants the thoughts to leave her head. Outside Juliano walks in the moonlight and flashes back to his conversation with Nicolasa – they are our owners … and then he remembers the incident with Cata.

Ignacia is hungry. Finally, an older nun opens the door and tells her she must be calm. I am in jail, and I am hungry. My father paid a lot of money for this. The nun tells Ignacia that she brought her food, but that in this place the most important food is spiritual. She also tells Ignacia that she will return in a week to see if her soul is ready for God. Ignacia only wants to pray to God to keep Alejo away from the mestiza so that she can marry him.

Alejo looks at the medal, and he remembers when he gave it to Pola. I gave it to her to have an excuse to return to her – and then he remembers The Kiss.

Pola cries in her bed.

Later at the cuartel Arcos remarks to Alejo that the situation is complicated? The rest of troops from Santa Fé have arrived from Popayan. Alejo sees Leandro. They are actually glad to see one another. Leandro asked for permission to join this troop. But, that is not the real reason he is here. He wanted to get away from their father.

Pola tells Matea that she is going to a meeting. Petra makes an excuse to Matea to get some time off, but, she is really following Pola.

Leandro tells about receiving a letter that will show him what a snake their father is. I have it. Take it. It is from the mestiza. Aren’t you going to read it? I can wait, says Alejo.

A lot of people are going to the meeting. Pola catches up with Facundo. Petra lurks.

Alejo introduces Leandro to Arcos. Sámano has callled all of us We are at the punto de reventar (breaking point).

At the royal palace Sámano asks the viceroy what is this. He is told it is a list of men who should be behind bars because they are accused of conspiracy against the viceroy of Nueva Granada. If it is true what the creoles are planning he doesn’t have to consult the vireina. Sámano is ready to do his duty.

Baraya and the revolutionaries: 30th of July – market day. Can we call on your support? Baraya says the troops don’t know our plans. He has to think about how to communicate with the troops. We have to get to the people.

Pola is doing a good job of getting to the people. Get anything she tells them – sticks, machetes. Then they all go inside a building.

Sámano is holding forth in front of the troops. We have to defend Spain from a group of traitors who are trying to take power. The moment to defend our country has arrived. They are using the excuse of defending the interests of Spain, but they are just trying to take power. They are trying to get the support of the people.

WEDNESDAY

In front of the troops Sámano begins, we are in a state of high alert. Alejo wants to know if we are going to fire against the people. Sámano says if necessary. In times of war there are two sides – our side and the enemy. Don’t forget that when the moment arrives.

Baraya – the troops aren’t going to fire against the people. Here we are all Spaniards. Don Camilo Torres says that as of tomorrow there will be a big difference between the Spanish and the Spanish-Americans.

They are trying to avoid violence and still believe there is hope for a junta. Jorge says that the viceroy believes in him. They ask Jorge to lead a commission to meet with the viceroy, but he declines. Don Camilo steps up and volunteers.

At the meeting, Pola tells the people that we have to help in the formation of the junta.

The revolutionaries wonder if the king of Spain is going to continue being their king. They debate. The final answer is “never.” Carbonel agrees.

At the cuartel Leandro says that the situation is now complicated. Alejo asks Leandro if he thinks Sámano will order them to fire on the people. Leandro: remember the military – listen a lot, obey a little. Have you read the letter, he asks Alejo. She is not the woman for me, but I will never love another. Leandro tells him that he is ridiculous. Pola is in Santa Fé. She returned the medal to me. I never thought you would get it back remarks Leandro. You should not read the letter.

The revolutionaries decide not to include the viceroy in the junta. Do you know Nariño they ask of the comisionado. ….yes….I intervened for him. He was in a mazmorra and now that he is in a better prison he is getting better. The new governor of Cartagena is decent. Baraya says that he will be here just when we need him. The do not want to include Carbonel and coincidentally, neither did Nariño.

Meanwhile Pola asks the assemblage to support what Carbonel says. They have some secret signals, cabildo abierto – people in power. Carbonel says the people will make the decisions. There will be no more viceroys, and we will get rid of the soldiers, too. But, Carbonel tells them the soldiers will help.

Báltasar learns that the new governor of Cartagena is setting him free. Magda, whispers Nariño, I am going to see you, but the guard tells him that he has no notice for him.

A priest/doctor tends to Magda, and he tells her that she has to eat, If you don’t get better, when you husband returns you will not be found. As he leaves, the priest tells Magda’s sister that if her husband were here, she would get better.

As Pola walks down the street in Santa Fé, she remembers Alejo telling her that he had already married. Arcos shows up and says I know who you are thinking about. Remember me? I am your future husband. I wanted to talk to you and you practically hit me. He knows her name, and he tells her that Alejo spoke a lot about her.

Alejo has the letter in his hand. He opens it and begins to read it. “…I need you to believe me. I did not have anything to do with what my aunt and sister did…I will testify before any authority … you did not steal my honor … you stole my life …I am waiting for you … don’t look for me in Guaduas. I am in Santa Fé.” Pola

Did you tell our father about this, asks Alejo. What did he say? Believe me, says Leandro, you don’t want to know.

Petra knows where Pola goes. The revolt is being organized. Pola walks in. Petra accuses her of being a revuelta. Matea tells Petra that Pola is not hiding anything from her because she is aware of what Pola is doing.

Alejo – so, he never sent the money. He kept the dowry. Now you know why I am here, says Leandro. Yes, I saw her in a stable, but, it didn’t mean she lived in sin. I don’t like her, but ou father is a miserable. He begged me to do everything to stop you and Pola. Leandro tells Alejo to let his conscience be his guide. Alejo remarks that “…I know Pola. She will never forgive me.”

Petra tells Matea that she doesn’t understand. What we are trying to do is to have everybody represented. Matea is in agreement. Petra says that to go against the king is to go against God. Matea cautions her to be very careful in talking about this.

20 July 1810 – Many people begin showing up at the market in Santa Fé.

Sámano shaves and smiles to himself. His moment has arrived. (Ed: The actor in this part is wonderful. He gets across just enough intelligent evil to make Sámano very believable and real. He smiles, while he shaves and conveys the feeling that the razor scraping his face is a metaphor for what is yet to come. It is obvious he enjoys the danger.)

When Pola awakes, she notices that Petra is gone. She quickly dresses and goes after her and catches up to Petra as she reaches the cuartel.

Arcos tells Alejo that he hopes he has changed his opinion of Pola. But, says Arcos, she only has eyes for you. If not, I would be first on the list to conquer her heart.

The vireina gets down from her carriage to go shopping and notes that the lazy mestizos haven’t yet opened their shops. Her lover finds her. He wants to talk to her in private. It seems that he wants the house back. Do you think I will return a gift? You dream of sleeping with royalty has been fulfilled.

Tonito is trying to get his father’s freedom. Why isn’t he free. The governor tells him that he cannot free all the criminals. But, my father is not a criminal. The word of one man and his son. Further, the governor doesn’t know how long he will be in jail. There are rumors of a junta in Santa Fé. Tonito says that if the Spanish don’t succeed in killing him, now it is his friends who will do that.

Magda appears to be dying. She has lost the will to live. She thinks it will be better for everybody if she dies. Everybody hates me. Her sister tells her that the only important person is her husband and what he thinks.

When the vireina arrives at the palace, the viceroy asks her if she knows Portacarrero.

At the cuartel, Petra asks to speak to the owner – el mandamo. Iglesias lauphs in her face. Pola sees her. Petra tells Iglesias that she is going to tell him about a revolt. With that news, Iglesias tells her that he will tell the colonel. When he leaves, Pola grabs Petra. Petra is not convinced that anything will get better. It is even possible to free all of you, says Pola. Don’t you want to be a free woman?

The viceroy tells the vireina that Portacarrero didn’t come to see her. He came to see me. Please leave us alone. The vireina says that man is not welcome in our house. We have had bad business with him. What type of business asks the viceroy?

When Iglesias returns, he can’t find Petra. Sámano wants to know where she is. I assure you she was here to tell us about a revolt. Did she say when. No. Today is market day, true? Her warning is true, says Sámano.

The vireina says that man is her enemy and she wants him out and calls the guards. Wait, says the viceroy. The vireina says that he must not sully the name of the vireina. Portacarrero says this woman is the devil incarnate.

After all is said and done, Pola enlists Petra to the cause.

In Guaduas Domingo is all dressed up and pays a visit to the mayor. The mayor wants to know if he has news of Pola. Yes, she wrote me. She wrote to terminate the denuncia about Juliano. She asked about her brother. Cata is taking care of him. Is she thinking of returning, asks the mayor? No. Anyway, your wig arrived. Put it on. No, says Domingo. Where is my title. The mayor reminds him that the situation in Spain is getting worse, but the mayor has the solution.

Pola and Petra are in the market. Everything is planned. Facundo and Raimundo want to know if Petra is going to help. Then the rest of the revolutionaries arrive. Now we have to find out if the viceroy is disposed to help us get rid of Spain.

Juliano asks Nicolas if there is something to drink. Nicolasa doesn’t want him to be beaten for seeing her. If you haven’t been beaten it is because la ama is content. Juliano tells her that she has to change her behavior with him. If you don’t, our marriage will be over. Nicolasa tells him not to put all the blame on her.

Cata whips herself. When am I going to get the ideas of this negro out of my head?

The revolutionaries are before the viceroy. The seek his support for a new junta that will represent Spain and the viceroy.

The vireina enters. Don’t believe those satrapas. The viceroy tells her that they came to see him about an American junta. We will not permit such a government she shrieks. We cannot authorize such a junta. It is lack of fidelity to the viceroy. You are not the best person to talk about fidelity she is reminded.

THURSDAY

What did you mean, Don Camilo Torres? You were saying something about the fidelity of my wife. Your excellency, it is a question of fidelity. All the people of Santa Fé know that your wife is unfaithful with Portacarrera and that she has been with different persons. The whole city knows Portacarero gave her a house – “Amor es un deliciosa”. The viceroy orders everybody out and wants to be alone with his wife. You are canallas says the viceroy. The vireina deserves respect.

Then the viceroy sends the revolutionaries out. As to your petition, he tells them, my reply is the same. The king put me in this position, and I owed him obedience. The day that he has a letter from the king with his seal is the day he will authorize them.

Nariño tells Tonito that the viceroy will not last long in Santa Fé. Tonito says that they know that you have a relationship with those men. Father, he asks, why have you lost faith in those men.

In the market Pola, Facundo, Raimundo, Petra and Carbonel are waiting to find out if the matter with the viceroy worked out.

In the palace, the vireina cries. She orders all the guards out. Antonio, she pleads, don’t believe the words of our enemies. I have always loved you.

In the cuartel, Arcos tells Iglesias to speak. What did that woman want? Iglesias says he only takes orders from his superiors. Alejo tells him that he is his superior. Iglesias says that you (Alejo) are my superior in rant only and that Alejo is not superior to him.

The other soldiers grab him and want to put him in the brig. The black woman came to warn us of a revolt, squeals Iglesias. Alejo warns that if there is a revolt, the troops will not go against the people.

The mayor hands Domingo a certificate. But, Domingo can’t read. This is a certificate that says you are of noble origin. Only the king can give titles. This is a title of Don Domingo. It is yours for a very low price – 400 pesos. And, the money will be sent to the king.

The revolutionaries tell Jorge that authorization would only come from the king. Who will contraol the multitude they ask. Baraya says he can do it. Then, Sámano will get the troops out.

Cata whips herself AGAIN, but this time Nicolasa watches. Cata begs God to help her, but her imagination runs wild. Juliano is so bad and good in her dreams. She talks to him, and Nicolasa hears. Cata thinks she is going crazy and prays for help.

In the market, Carbonel tells Morales that they depend on him. Pola waits with Carbonel. Morales goes into the building to cause trouble. He picks up a piece of porcelain. Llorente tells him to be careful. It costs 100 pesos. I do not think I am going to pay, says Morales. Let’s say it is a loan.

At the cuartel, Alejo and Leandro have a discussion. The troops are divided, and many are on the side of the Americans. Leandro thinks they are traitors. Leandro says the Spaniards here are obeying the orders of the king. But, Arco says the Spanish are just here to get rich. Leandro tells Alejo that his friends should be in jail, but Alejo insists that we are here to support the legitimate interests of his majesty and that we don’t want to fire against innocent people. Leandro tells him that is not a question for soldiers.

Llorentes ask Morales what do you mean a loan? Morales gets in an argument and Llorentes says the Americans are (expletive). Then the others run outside and say that they are insulting all Americans. Carbonel and a friend then go through the crowd agitating the people with Pola’s help. Then the crowd descends upon the building.

In Guaduas Domingo is home, and he gets a mirror out of a chest and tries on his wig. Then he looks at the paper he got from the mayor, but he can’t read it.

The vireina tries to get close to the viceroy. How can you be so unjust with men, Antonio. I have sacrificed everything for you. I followed you to this jungle, this dirty land, even the food is terrible. The viceroy retorts: you have had entertainment all these years by fornicating.

The oidores break in and tell the viceroy that the situation is grave.

Sámano finds out from Iglesias that there are a lot of people in the market. This is the revolt the woman spoke of. Sámano wants to stop them. Imagine what it would be to have the creoles in the royal audience, he sneers. Sámano tells Iglesias to order the troops out. To himself Sámano says that at last the day has arrived.

In the cuartel, Delgado tells Alejo that Sámano has ordered them out. Baraya wants to know if he could fire.

The viceroy doesn’t want a tragedy. Oidor Jurado gets locked up by the viceroy’s guards, and tells the guards to lock up the rest of the oidores. Then he calls for Sámano because he wants to insure that nothing bad happens.

Gertrudis doesn’t recognize Domingo. He hopes Cata will be happy. Cata enters behind Domingo, and when he turns around, she stifles a laugh and then runs out. Domingo is tired of doing useless things. Cata is not a good wife, she is barren. The people in this village are saying I am not man enough to control my own wife.

As the revolt begins in the market, the people express their hatred for the Spaniards, but Pola says that some Spaniards are good people. She doesn’t want anything bad to happen to Matea. But, Facundo says that now is a good time to get rid of all of them.

Then they call out the mayor to control the crowd because the people are going crazy.

Sámano says the threat is real. The enemies of Spain want to take power. I am asking you a question: Are you ready to give your lives? Are you ready to give your lives?

He then orders the troops to go to different places in the city – some to the market, some to the palace.

Capt. Baraya he shouts out. No answer. We know where he is and who is the traitor. You know very well what you have to do.

Sámano then calls out the name of Teniente Sabaraín. Are you ready to lead your troops, and has your brother learned some discipline?

One of the oidores tells the viceroy that these people hate us. The vireina asks to leave because she has been insulted. Did you also know about my wife’s behavior, asks the viceroy? He doesn’t answer. Yes, you did. Everybody knows.

Cata and Gertrudis discuss Domingo’s clothes and the fact that he is now a don. Cata like that. She will be a doña. Then Gertrudis sees the marks on Cata’s back.

The mayor of Santa Fé goes out to the crowd and demands silence. We are going to put Llorentes in jail and punish him. The crowd goes wild. They shout out – let’s get the rest of them. You are making everybody crazy, he says to Carbonel and Pola.

Cata asks Gertrudis why is she looking at her body like that. You are doing this because of guilt, says Gertrudis. It is the herbs, says Cata, the effect never goes away. Gertrudis wants to know why she is so obsessed with Juliano. Cata, in a state of denial, says she is a married woman. You have tried everything, says Gertrudis, it seem God approves. Be careful and Domingo won’t suspect anything. Gertrudis asks God for Cata to get pregnant – otherwise Domingo will throw them in the street.

In Santa Fé, the crowd heads for the home of one of the oidores. They are going to kill him. He hides in an armoire.

The vireina goes out to a garden with a servant. She orders him to dig a hole and swears him to secrecy.

The crowd enters the oidor’s home and trashes it. Facundo opens the armoire and pulls the oidor out. The man begs for his life, but the all begin hitting him with sticks.
