no telenovelas tonight - so here's some fun facts from latin grammys

Since I don't have a telenovela recap tonight, here's some fun facts I saw on the Latin Grammy broadcast tonight on Univision.

1. Eugenio Derbez and Lucero were the hosts for the event.

2. Pepe Aguilar sang the theme "Destilando Amor" on stage, then later he won the grammy for best ranchero album.

3. Laura Pausini won the grammy for best female pop album for her album, "Yo Canto", then later she performed the Amar Sin LImites theme song on stage. (thanks k for the correction.)

4. Sergio Goyri, Erika Buenfil and Pablo Montero, cast members of the telenovela Duelo de Pasiones, presented Grammys during the broadcast.

5. At three separate occasions during the commercial breaks for the program, Univision aired three different promos for Pasion "Se Acerca" Coming Soon. The first was the "Storybook Fairytale of the Romance of Camila and Ricardo... Pasion Se Acerca"; the second was "the captivating complex tale of Ricardo in Pasion Se Acerca; the third was a replay of the very first promo aired on Univision.

J. R., thanks so much for this! Do you (or does anyone?) know how acerca Pasión actually is? I hope soon!

I've been watching La Esclava Isaura (not too bad) but it's wrapping up and I can't WAIT for Fern Colunga and PIRATES!

Jeanne --

the countdown clock for the gran finale of DA is now at 15 episodes.

J.R. ;)

Amar sin Limites's theme won for best song? You've got to be kidding!

Say what you will about the song, Laura Pausini rocks. She did a great duet with Andrea Bocelli.

Thanks, JR. I didn't get to watch. I have seen some promos for ''Pasion.'' I've also seen a few promos for ''Bailando International'' which I believe is beginning this Sunday. I can't wait for the dancing and costumes. And then.........PIRATEW TIME.

I like Pausani. She has a beautiful voice. I loved her theme for La Madrastra. Couldn't get it out of my head. Maybe the live performance of the ASL theme made it sound better, sometimes the arrangement makes all the difference. The one they use for the show is pretty spare.

J. R., Huy!

I saw Jaimie Camil on Mujer de Madera this morning at 9:00 am in New Jersey. He is so good. With the pirates on the way, what more can I ask for.

I watched the pre-show and saw a couple of La Fea people. Angelica, of course, but also Sergio Meyer with Isabella Camil and the lady who played Carolina Angeles (her last name's Salinas but I can't remember her first name). I think someone else too but now I can't remember (I'm getting old).

I kept switching channels back and forth to the grammys, and at one point there was one woman singing, unfortunately I didn't know who she was or what her song was, but she was SO flat! I felt so sorry for her. She put her hand to her ear like she couldn't hear herself, but she really sounded terrible. I had to change the channel, she was making my skin crawl. Hopefully she was able to find her groove, I really did feel sorry for her doing that in front of so many people.

What I saw of it, I thought it was a pretty good show.

Actually, Laura Pausini won for "Best Female Vocal Pop ALBUM." The album in Spanish is titled "Yo Canto." She did, however, perform the theme song from Amar Sin Limites that is titled in Spanish "Corazon Roto."

She also performed in Spanish with Andrea Bocelli, a duet he has also previously recorded in Italian, titled in Spanish, "Vive Ya."

"Song of the Year" actually went to Juan Luis Guerra for "La Llave De Mi Corazon."

Is the Juan Luis Guerra song used in a telenovela? The song they use for one of the daytime Novelas, I think it's Nunca te Dire Adios (Don't watch it, only the promos) sounds like JLG, at least musically, if not him singing.

Amar sin Limites is a dreadful show but I thought the Laura Pausini song for it was lovely...the only saving grace of a telenovela in which all of the character, heroes or villains, are either repulsive or boring. Our very fine recapping team is wasted on this one. Sure hope they get better material next time around!

I don't watch Amar but I sure enjoy reading the recaps. What a fantastic team. If only they were the writing team on the actual telenovela...

I think I'm on Thursday and Chris is on Friday for Pasiones. I can hardly wait to see who else has signed up since I know that there's been stiff competition for this one!

I'm guessing that Sylvia , Julie, and Beckster are on board [heehee] and have secured their nights to recap Pasion. It will be great to start a brand new novela together. I am psyched.

Pasion team: Monday, Keri; Tuesday, Beckster; Wednesday, me; Thursday, Margaret (though she says she can't post until latish the next day - if this proves to be a problem, Marycelis gets the spot); Friday, Chris.

What a fantastic recapping lineup for Pirates. I can't wait!

Susanlynn, I'm sticking with recapping Juan Querendón but will be available to pinch hit for Pasión. I plan to be a zealous commenter however, so I'll see you over there.
-Cap'n Eve Sharkbait

Yep, it's a stellar recap team and we're all going to party hearty, yo ho ho!

Jeanne

Dear Cap'n Eve~~~~I would respond with MY pirate name, but...yes...you guessed it...I've forgotten it already. I do remember that it was a really weiny pirate name, so I think that I finally decided to STEAL a name that I liked [in true pirate fashion], but....yes...I've also forgotten the name I stole. I think it was something like Mary Cherry Fizz...or something. Anyhoo, I am pumped about the new adventure....the pirates...Fernandito...Marcelo with a ponytail...ships...the costumes. I can't wait to hear Mariana Carr's gravely voice. So, then, it looks like we'll be spending the holidays with the PIRATES.

Hmmm, I don't know if Juan Luis Guerra has a telenovela song. He didn't seem like the telenovela song type, but maybe.

There is a band called Guardian that sings both a song and has an album titled "Nunca te dire adios." I'm not sure if that is the same as the one you are thinking about.

I had a great pirate name too, and can't recall it now either. I'll find it by the time they land on our shores though! I too mentioned to Melinama that I'll gladly be a pinch hitter too, as I'll be sticking with Juan as well, and from what I understand it's going to last a year!!!

Ladies, just go to the pirate name site and it'll give you the very same name you had the last time. I tried repeatedly and the cookies must have given me away.

Captain Jenny Cash

So I found a bunch of Pirate Name sites on Google: Here is the first,

My pirate name is:
Captain Ethel Bonney
Even though there's no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you're the one in charge. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate's life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

Aye, Cap'n Jenny. Looks like we're kin! Mine's Dread Pirate Cash

(Don't know if this is the site or not.) http://www.piratequiz.com/

Jardinera, that's the one. Well, my guess is black is your favorite color (my guess as to why I'm "Cash"... Anyway, clearly we're kin. Raise the Skull & Crossbones!

Jeanne

imagine my surprise to even be listed...being that i am new didn't realize i was in the running...cool

-Cap. Black Mary Kidd

Hey youngun' you've paid your dues and you're a fabulous recapper. Your scathing humor will be put to good use aboard the pirate ship.

K, a year? Whew, good think I'm loving JQ or it would be a long haul. We should have a pretty good vocabulary of slang by the time JQ is over.

Sylvia, I too am loving JQ because nobody is getting murdered and the bad guys are hardly bad and it's a farce rather than a tragedy/drama but it has its own subtleties - not only language but, for instance, the twists and subtleties of who has power (overtly or covertly) and who is actually the biggest baby.

Would you believe it? I may need a sub or a trade out for the night of 12/3. Isn't that the first night? Not happy about it, but that's life. Just an FYI.

YES !!! It looks like a great crew assembling for Pasion. I am looking forward to the show and the fun of reading our terrific recappers' recaps !!! It will be nice to spend cold winter days and nights watching pirates and damsels and reading clever , insightful translations . Thanks to all the faithful, hardworking recappers for their dedication and devotion. ~~~~[waves...get it ???] ~~~Wild Mary Cherry Fizz [the pirate formerly known as Dread Pirate Bonnie...which is a very weiny name for a dread pirate~~~~~

Hey, fellow telenovela fans! I have not watched one since Alborada ended, but I'm excited beyond belief about Pasion! Finally, I can watch a novela from the beginning! ;-)

I've been lurking since finding Melinama's fabulous recaps on Pratie Place, and am so happy to be anticipating watching the new show and reading the recaps and comments here! I love this group, everyone is so smart and funny. What a boost for the winter doldrums!

Does anyone know what date this is going to start, so I can mark my calendar? Thanks in advance!

Jardinera - I'll take that first night.

Melinama:

Aye, aye! Good 'nuff.

Arrggh! Please check your gmails for details.

:) I found mine...the one I liked the best was Keel-haulin' Lea Dread. That's one heck of a name....my lucha libre name is better though...and I intended to use it often, just haven't so this will be my opportunity....
