MEPS - Wednesday, June 17 - the art of keeping secrets

(by Jody - substitute recapper for CherylNM)

* Barb talks with Camilo about Gonzo and their problem.

* Vladimir calls to annoy Priscilla, who is at home in bed. He keeps calling her "Gordita" and it annoys her. He's concerned about her and their baby. She just wants him to leave her alone and stop calling her. Damian realizes she's on the phone and wants to talk with her. She tells Vladimir it's okay. Damian takes the phone receiver from Vladimir and asks Priscilla for a huge favor, in the best interests of him, Vladimir, her and her baby. He asks her to plant some confidential papers from Grupo Lactos in the offices of Prolasa.

* Barb and Camilo continue their discussion about Santi and Aurora - they plan on a way to separate the two lovebirds so Aurora leaves the hacienda forever. Camilo agrees to the plan and leaves the office. Barb grins in contentment.

* Venus goes to office and meets with Steve. She is very interested and discusses what to call him - Mister (like Se~or or Don). Steve tells her about his and Franco's discussion over her job work. She's totally intrigued. He refers to "Mata Hari" and she thinks he wants her to kill someone which she refuses to do. He explains that he and Franco want her to be a seductive spy at their party.

* Tomasa tells Barb in the home office that Macario is on the phone, and says that Fey was at the summer house with a guest and left something behind. Barb tells her to tell him don't worry, it's fine. Barb asks where Fer is now. Tomasa says she left the house.

* Outside in the garden, Santi paints a new portrait of Aurora. They talk as he works. He asks her to marry him. She's stunned. They stop - gaze longingly into each other's eyes - they hold hands -- Camilo looks stunned as he spies from the living room window -- Santi and Aurora kiss. They love each other - she wants to wait, just long enough so they can know each other better. He agrees.

* Steve and Venus continue their discussion about what he and Franco want Venus to do at the party. Venus is confused and Steve explains that she is to be totally professional, no sex or love, just seduce the mystery man into falling in love with her.

* Franco arrives at the summer house. He meets Fer outside in the driveway and shows her the birth certificate for Don Artemio Bravo.

* Priscilla packs up her purse and is on the phone assuring Vladimir that she'll do the favor and will meet with Damian for the papers.

* Gonzo and Anibal are in a heated debate over whether or not Flor, the long-time trusted receptionist, is an evil spy or not. Anibal sticks to his decision to fire her. Gonzo is frustrated and angry at his son's stubbornness and stomps out of the office.

* Fer asks Franco about the importance of the certificate. Franco explains that it pertains to Don Artemio Bravo and that this evil shadow looms over the misery of Lili's life. Fer is confused and needs more information and details. Franco refuses to divulge anything specific and they change the subject to discuss getting Lili away from the clinic and getting her the actual medical help she needs. Fer tells Franco that she will help him.

* Barb arrives at the summer house and spies on Fer and Franco outside talking. She grumbles about Fer's secret meeting spot as Macario spooks her with a friendly greeting. She grumbles to herself but is polite and courteous to the old handyman. He wonders why she or Don Gonzo haven't been at the house for a long time. She tells him to return to his work. He says what work, no one comes to visit. She agrees to keep him company.

* Inside the living room, Franco explains to Fer that they need to take Lili to a safe house where she can be comfortable and cared for by friends. Fer wonders if he has someplace specific in mind. He won't give details, only that he has a debt to repay in regards to Lili. Fer is curious. Franco thought bubbles his memory about his mom's request.

* Barb takes Macario for a ride in her SUV through the wooded area. He's curious where they are going. She only says she needs his opinion about the property. They stop and she asks him to look around and tell her if some property is worth buying. They take a long walk.

* Franco and Fer discuss the plan for Lili's care and rehab. He says if she agrees, he can have Lili out of the clinic tonight - Dr. Obregon will agree to it. Fer is stunned and has multiple doubts about it working, and doesn't want the guilt of being an accomplice if the plan fails in anyway.

* At the apartment, Damian hands Priscilla the folder and tells her to hide it in the desk of a long-time employee of Prolasa. Priscilla is stunned, upset and refuses to do it. Damian explains that she's as deceitful as he is, she's carrying Vladimir's baby and pretending it's Anibal's. She reluctantly takes the folders and slams the door as she leaves.

* On the cliff in the middle of the woods, Barb asks Macario to take a good look at the property. He can't see anything through all the trees and leaves. She has him sit down and look carefully. As he sits and tries to look, Barb uses her stilleto heeled foot to shove Macario down the cliff.

* Aurora pets and talks with the horse in the stables. Camilo finds her and instructs her on the proper way to brush the horse. She is excited and loves horses. Camilo starts to flirt and asks her if she wants to go horseback riding with him.

* In the kitchen at Las Animas, Steve continues to explain to Venus the plan of seduction - to flirt with the mystery man and seduce him into falling for her but without her falling for him. She wonders about more detailed instruction - Steve says if she agrees to the plan, he will be her personal tutor and transform her from Venus the tramp into a lady of culture and class. Venus understands the job - she's intrigued - takes a moment and then accepts.

* Barb drives back to the summer house alone, grumbling to herself.

* Outside the summer house, Fer talks with Franco about life, secrets and movie fantasies. Franco has a brief thought bubble about the memory of Barb finding him and Fer kissing in the old granary (troje viejo). He only tells Fer a vague description of his memory.

* Camilo and Aurora go off for their ride - on the same horse.

* Fer and Franco walk down to the island in the garden. He asks if she's ever been in love. She laughs and says believe it or not, once in my childhood. He wonders if he appeared like this. He takes her head in his hands and plants a long, passionate, irresistible kiss on her lips. Just at that moment, Barb wanders through the well-manicured tree line and spies on the couple kissing passionately. Barb looks disgusted by the sight. Franco and Fer continue to kiss. Barb turns and walks away, occasionally turning back to spy on the lingering kiss. Franco and Fer stop kissing - Franco apologizes for his impulsiveness and for confusing his dreams with reality. Fer says he has nothing to apologize for - she should apologize. They mention responsibilities and she mentions her guilt and mixed emotions over her past with Eduardo.

* Barb continues to look over her shoulder as she walks quickly and quietly back to her SUV. She climbs in and drives away.

* Margie tries to cheer up her cousin Flor as they cook in her cottage kitchen. Flor is still upset over being fired by Anibal; she's also uneasy staying at the house. Margie tells her they are happy she's there with them. Flor has a light-bulb moment and remembers flirting with Vladimir - she's smitten with him and thinks he is interested in her. Margie is stunned.

* Vladimir returns to the apartment with a bouquet of roses. Damian tells him that Priscilla left. He's upset and thinks she left because of Damian. Vladimir scolds Damian for abusing Priscilla. Damian fights back and tells him that he got Vladimir together with Priscilla in the first place. They argue. Damian threatens Vladimir not to double-cross him.

* Barb returns home and yells for Tomasa, who scurries nervously to attention. Barb orders her to find Camilo and tell him she needs to see him immediately.

* Camilo and Aurora return to the stables after their ride. Santi asks her where she went. She enthusiastically tells him about the horseback ride. Santi isn't thrilled.

ADVANCE: Barb grumbles to Camilo about Fer and Franco's budding romance; Erika continues with her illusions of being with Franco Santoro.

Alice, regarding transitive and intransitive verbs, and lie and lay, it's on the 5/21 recap.

I haven't read the recap yet, but thank you!

I missed the chapter tonight. high school graduation and dinner at 9....but reading over the recap is so great....thank u and good job...i was able to see the first 15 minutes......how did babs know to go to the guest house? did i miss something or was she following through on the phone call from the handyman.... how awful that she can be so mean....shoving him over the cliff....I wonder what Cad millo is up to....... what a creep.... i can't believe that aroura is so dumb as to believe he is going to be nice guy... what a creep.....he may do her harm to make babs happy
lets see whats up his sleeve....so who is the birth cert. for? is it Artemio Bravos or one of his children naming him father........maybe he is Babs father......... and grandpa to Aurora?hummmmmmmm......did they say what was on the BC? So many questions in this plot now....
Good Night.....BN in CA

Aaaaarrrghhh...I was so upset last night. Poor innocent dear Macario. There should be a law against killing sweet well-meaning old folks in telenovelas. (maybe he'll survive...but with amnesia of course.)

BN in CA: Tomasa came in to tell Barb that Fer had left her shawl at the vacation home and should Macario bring it in? That's how Barb knew she'd been out there. And when she asked Tomasa about Fer's whereabouts, Tomasa said she was gone....so Barb put two and two together and headed out to the place.

NOW, DID I SAY HOW UPSET I WAS!!!?? POOR MACARIO.

Thanks for the recap Jody. Lucky you that it was the night of mucho besos.

Thanks for the recap, Jody. I missed this episode. Who is Fey? Did I miss something? Thanks.

Very nice recap Jody. I also was wondering how Barb knew to go to the cottage. But the KISS! ahhhh...How heavenly was that. He could sure teach fish-lips Franco from FELS a thing or two.

Why is the Old Guy the one who always gets hurt? What was the purpose of that anyway? My thought was that she was going to frame/blame Fr/Ed for his death.

Birth certificate--still a mystery. Arghhhhh....

Somebody needs to tell Abora (not that she could remember it) that Cadmil-Ho is a cad and a ho. Why hasn't Santi warned her about him?

It looks like we were right about Venus. That is going to be interesting. What is with her hair flipping. It's almost as annoying as her gum chewing which is just obnoxious.

Tks Jody, we are so lucky that we have some people that can fill in.

Looks like Esteve is Henry Higgins to Venus's Eliza Doolittle. I did hear Esteve say "sin chicle" so hopefully the gum is gone soon.
Cracked up at the Mata Hari, kill Hari.

Loved the kiss, buuuut, a kiss that long was a little too sterile, should have been a little more body heat.

I knew Macario called & that's how Babs knew about the country home meeting. I just couln't quite understand why he would call. Tks for clearing that up JudyB.

I have a feeling that Macario will survive, but it will be awhile before he can tell what happened. At least I hope so. I guess the little girl that was there on Fer & Fr/Ed's first trip was his nieta?

BN in CA
On yesterday's recap everyone said what they could make out on the birth certificate. We think it's Artemio's, born Nov 2, 1950.

Babs didn't want Macario to spill the frijoles about her being there & spying on Fer & Fr/Ed. Seems a rather drastic solution.

We KNOW that Babs has killed 2 people. Monserrat & Macario & wants to fry Lili's brains.

Jody: nice job & thanks for stepping up to the plate!

Doris: Fey = Fernanda aka Nanda or Fern.

I'm hoping the old man lived & will somehow be a key component in Babs' eventual downfall. She actually enjoyed it, the witch. But her good mood was ruined by THE KISS. I guess now she nows that Fr/Ed is just not that into her.

Abora is ridiculously naive to go for a ride with NaranHo. Maybe he's the skank who left the bloody cross. Santi is onto him but Abora doesn't have a clue (big surprise...she cried when Dominatrix died...yeesh).

I hate Babs.

Maggarita
:-)

Thanks for the recap. Fey for Fer had me a little off the track, too.

Anyway, I just have questions: Why do Santi and Aurora continue to live at Hacienda Elizalde? He managed to get by for years living elsewhere. Oops, forgot. They have to stay there so that Barb will have opportunities to "disappear" Aurora.

Why is Aurora so dumb? She knows that Camilo is up to no good. She knew how to say "no" to Santi. The same word would work on damned Cam.

Why did Barb think it was necessary to kill Macario? She has a right to visit the summer house. Nobody would raise an eyebrow about her visit. Picking up Fer's shawl would have been a good excuse for her to check the property out on behalf of her beloved family.

Thanks for the recap Jody. It helped me connect some dots. But why does Barbara la vibora feel the need to kill Macario or is it not about need but rather her everyday sociopathic mindset?

I was shocked that Camilo didn't do an all-out rape of Abora. I guess he's laying the groundwork for some future violation. Also, it was good to see Abora in riding gear as opposed to her usual peasant, milk maid attire. It made her look more like an adult.

Dona Gringuita

I don't know how Abora can stand to be that close to Cadmil-Ho. He gives me the creeps big time. Esteve had on a new sweatshirt and coordinating t-shirt--must have been the next day.

Why is Martina not with Lili?

I bet when Venus cleans up she'll be a real beauty.

Jody, thanks for the recap. Very well done. I really enjoyed the scene with Esteve and Venus. It should be a lot of fun seeing Venus putting moves on Camilo, but I'm afraid that Esteve jinxed it by telling Venus she is not to fall in love with her prey. Now, of course, that almost assures that she will.

Was there any point at all for Babs to kick Macario down the cliff? PMS? Maybe just a bad day all around? He did seem to roll pretty well so maybe not fatal.

Carlos

Thanks for the great recap Jody. I haven't watched the episode, but after reading your recap, I can picture it in my mind. You can add me as another person, where 'Fey' confused me at first, but then I figured out it was Fernanda.

Dona Gringuita, I have to assume Cad has to be pretty smooth to get the women to start with. Once that happens, then he starts getting bad.

Connie, Martina is not with Lili because FrEd is too overconfident and thinks Lili is OK. Much of that because the Dr is sleeping. Still surprising to me that Adolphina did not call FrEd and tell him about Barb's visit.

JeffMN

Thanks Jody, you got a nice smooch episode.

Barbie killed Macario because to her, he was an inconvenient nuisance. He might mention that Barbie was at the weekend house and might have seen Fer and Franco together. It was easier for her to kill him than deal with the possible problem, since she doesn't want Fer & Franco to know that she knows.

Can Abora be that stupid or innocent?! She's treated badly by Cad-ho and knows Santi can't stand him, but it's okay to saddle up and go with him into the woods...
jb

Oh, forgot to say...

Venus won't fall in love because she said she's a "professional"...
jb ;-}

Jody, a wonderful recap. Your clear concise details are always a pleasure to read. Thank you.

I fear poor Macario was killed simply to showcase that Barbie is a stone cold killer. As Pasofino and others noted, there were several feasible explanations for why Babs would visit. It was a senseless, cruel act, possibly fueled by her anger and jealousy over finding Fernanda and Franco together.

Poor Flor - fired unfairly for espionage and still under the delusion Vlad cares about her...

We've seen a few cracks in Vlad's submissive behavior. There's a thinly veiled layer of anger simmering beneath the surface. Damian should be very careful - any further mistreatment of Pris and he may bear the signficant brunt of Vlad's emotions.

Can't wait to see Venus's transformation. When exactly is this party going to happen? Seems like it's been planned for months now :)

Diana in MA

Thanks, Jody. Yikes ! Babs pushes the poor old handyman down the cliff. What a coldhearted mujer. She's definitely on a slippery downward slope to a nasty demise. That kiss was perfection. FC is a master of the art. It looks like we're about to see the Mexican version of '' My Fair Lady'' starring Venus as Eliza Doolittle and Esteve as her mentor on what not to wear.

I'll join the chorus- what was the point of Babs helping Marcario down the hillside? Made NO sense. I don't think that he's dead, but why do they have to beat up on the helpless- Silvestre, Lili, now MArcaario? We know that Babs is bad w/o that. I was half expecting Marcario's nieta to come bounding out, and la Hiena to snuff her, too, just for good fun.

Another teaser with the acta de nacemiento, we know no more after two sightings. Gawd, just let us know what everyone else knows!

Santi has found a brain dead girl for a novia. I think that he must give her more crdit for intelligence, in assuming that she would know to stay away from Cad. A reasonably intellegent girl would have simply declined Cad's invitation, and give Santi the pleasure of her first horse ride. Especially since she knows that she has an enemy in the household- you'd think that she would be suspicious of EVERYONE! We need a new acronym- DNMS- does not make sense.

Oops, almost forgot- thanks for the recap, Jody.

dorado dave

I did enjoy Esteve with Venus- he's going to make a lady of a lady of the night. That will be interesting. I'll bet that she cleans up real nice. She is another natural beauty...

Thanks JeffMN. I must have missed that episode.

I knew something was up when Barb was being nice to the handyman.

So if there was a fight between Barbie and Gabriella who would win? Gabi favored the riding crop but Barbie can shoot. Hmmmmm...

Jesus Lopez, Babs is one evil devil woman. The worst part was that she totally enjoyed it.

I agree that she is jealous of Fer and Ed/Fr. Now that Dam is out of the picture the best she can do is seduce poor old Gonzo.

Cad is gross, he reminds me a Botero painting with those pursed lips. If someone wants to wack him, thats fine with me.

There is no way that Santi belongs to the "Family". The others all have strong traits of some sort but Santi is just too "good". Was he adopted or did Monty have a fling?

Jeff, I agree with you, why didn't Adolphina call Ed/Fr about Bab's visit?

Jody, thanks for the great recap.

rsk

jb, so was Rodrigo's shrink in Destilando Amor. Who can predict cupid's arrows?

Carlos

thank you Judy for filling in the blanks for me with Macario's phone call to the hacienda. Now it makes a bit more sense that he would call because Fernanda left something at the house. It also makes sense that Barb would think of going there.

I too have no idea why Barbie would bump off Macario - unless she didn't want any witnesses to say that she was there, plus he seemed to bother her too much when she did arrive.

For those who are wondering about the birth certificate -- that is Don Artemio's birth certificate. His mom's name Ana Gregoria Bravo. Soledad had it hidden in her little green box all these years.

Sorry for the confusion over my nickname "Fey" for Fernanda. Next week, I'll remember to use "Fer" instead.

I'll be re-reading the past recaps to determine which nick to use for Barbara -- Barb, Barbie or Babs?

Jody :)

Jody- how did you know that the birth cert is, indeed, AB's, and that Anna Gregoria Bravo was his mother? Can you read that thing? I could only make out very few words, and wasn't convinced that I was reading it correctly.

Thanks, Jody, for the very helpful recap. It cleared up a number of questions my poor Spanish left me with.

BTW, when Flor first remembered Vladi, I thought for a second or two that she realized he could have had access to the papers. Silly me. But not as silly as poor Flor, who still thinks Vladi is interested in her "huesitos."

dave -- that's about all I can say about the birth certificate and the background story of DA without giving away any major spoilers and receiving the wrath of our "blogmom" for doing so.

Jody- enough said, thank you for answering and not spoiling...

Wierd, I can't make out "Ana Gregoria" on there at all!

Jody, I think we usually go with "Barbie" or "Babs." Sometimes "BOW" (Bitch On Wheels). I often use "Barb" out of laziness (I find it slightly easier to type in a hurry than "Babs") and because she's thorny.

I've never seen Macario before. Was he introduced in the envelope episode that I missed? (I'm going to watch it in a few minutes)

That was some awesome kiss.

Last night, when Vlad was getting all wound up, I realized that the only reason he's seemed relatively sane (compared to when he was stalking Pris) is because lately, he's been thinking that he's eventually going to have Pris for himself. But now that this notion is threatened, he's showing more instability.

Connie, in a Babs vs. Gabi battle, my money wold be on Babs. Gabi got away with a lot because most of her victims were helpless, meek, and/or cooperative (like when Juan agreed to the whipping). She's more of a big fish in a little pond - I don't know if she'd do as well in a larger community filled with actual sharks. Feonando had no problem manipulating her.

Babs too has only victimized weaker people so far, but something tells me that's just been the luck of the draw and that she could handle bigger fish. She wouldn't waste time with slapping, either. With someone like Gabi, I think Babs would go straight for the throat.

I think you are right Julie. If Babs took away Gabi's whip it would be all over. I don't think Babs would slap either. She'd just break something (elbow, knee, nose).

I just looked at the envelope episode (it's #82, not 81). Wow, there's really not much, is there? He takes the envelope and that's the last we see of it.

Technically, it's addressed to him (the messenger, not the Padre) so no reason not to rip it open. But let's say he planned to take it to the Padre right away and put it in his car, where it slipped down to the floor and then got buried in grocery bags and other junk. That's what happens to things in my car, anyway.

And then he got the call from Fernanda, which distracted him, and then he forgot.

Only problem with this theory is that it's IMPOSSIBLE to believe that he could forget about this envelope. Even if he didn't want to read it on the spot, you'd think he would have called the Padre about it immediately. (We know the Padre has a phone, because Fernanda called him when she was looking for Eduardo!)

Oh well. Maybe it'll turn up later. "Oh, I forgot all about this." Yeah, right.

This show has a lot of mysteries. And lucky for us they don't make us wait that long to know the answer. Although they could drag out birth certificate mystery.

I, too, vote for Babs in a smackdown with Crabiella. Barb is younger and has a few pounds on Crabby. Babs doesn't mind getting physical [shout out to Olivia Newton John] with her victims. Crabby was into mental abuse and setting fires in the middle of the night [except for the Juan-whipping...which was kind of kinky..no?] When Babs lifted her foot to push poor old guy down the mountain, I thought that her stiletto heel might impale him and she join him in the tumble...que lastima. By the way, he played Manuel's loyal townhouse butler. I hope they show THE LOOOOONG KISS again...and again......It's always gratifying to see an expert in action.~~~Susanlynn, so tired on this rainrainrain....help

What about this forgotten "mystery", the phone number that Gardenia retrieved from the notepad that Babs had used sooo long ago. We all thought that would be important. I think that the writers really make this story up as they go, having only the beginning and end points established at the outset, and fill in the middle as it comes to them. They throw in these little things with the intention to use them somehow, later, or at least to give them an option to use it later. Some of these incidents are not needed, (or forgotten), and not used.

dorado dave

BUt this is a remake. Did the original have all these red herrings in it?

The only thing I can think of with that scrap of paper Gardenia had is that there was this one scene ages ago where Margarita was sweeping the floor, and the camera seemed to linger on the pile of sweepings, which included a scrap of paper. (It was around the time when she and Jacinto were fighting because she thought he was having an affair.)

That stuck in my mind, but it didn't occur to me until now that that might have been the phone number Gardenia snagged from the redial.

So what mysteries are we pondering:

1. Scrap of paper with phone number

2. Envelope left for "messenger of Padre Bosco."

3. The cryptic message that Ciro had--solved

4. The contents of THE BOX--solved

5. Birth certificate

6. Reason Macario was pushed down the hill.

7. Who does Venus have to seduce?

8. Anything remotely connected to Artemio Bravo.

What else?

Great job on the recap Jody.

I think the writers felt they needed to reinforce Barbara's evilnes because so far she had only killed Montserrat and that was under the orders of Artemio, they want to us to see her as someone completely evil on her own.

But I like Babs, maybe it's Lucero, but I can forgive her for her evil acts since she cracks me up sometimes with her lines.

I liked that Venus thought that Steve was talking about her killing someone when he started talking about Mata Hari.

The name Fey reminds me of a mexican singer that was very famous in latinamerica in the mid 90's, all us girls wanted to be her, she was like our Britney Spears, except without taking her clothes off, and now I will think of her Azucar Amargo song in every scene with Fre/Ed and Fer:

Great recap, Jody!

Although Vlad wouldn't be in favor of it, I'd like to see him and Flor really get together. They're both sort of bumbling and sweet.

As for Babs and Crabiella, we have to remember that Crabi did whip out a shotgun once, and I think a pistol another time. Also, Liliana had Babs by the throat a few times, and although Babs eventually pushed her away, it wasn't so easy. So maybe Crabi would have a chance.

I hope Macario's okay. What would be really good would be if he came back like a zombie to haunt Babs, but I think we're in the wrong novela for that!

See, Barbara is evil in the flesh, but she's crafty. Macario could easily have chatted to Fer that Babs had been at the hacienda and that would have given her a warning to come up with a cover story about why she was with Ed/Fr. Babs doesn't want to reveal her hand until she finds out exactly what's going on. To her, the old guy was just expendable for that reason but she sure got a kick out of killing him.

Barbara/Rebecca is one of the most evil female characters I've ever seen on a novela. I think number one was cold-blooded Marcia Montenegro played by Anjelica Rivera in Mariana de la Noche who tried several times to kill a tiny little baby.

I'll add Lucio to the list of loose ends. I don't think he's finished.

The bag that Gardenia had on her 1st kidnapping, but I think this one is forgotten. The writers put that in just in case they wanted Fr/Ed to find it & then took a different turn.

The real Franco Santoro

Thanks for the recap Jody.

Wow, I'm still in shock that Babs killed that kindly old man. I guess the writers wanted us to know that her temporary kindness to Aurora was just that TEMPORARY.

I do always wish that novelas would do better with innocent characters not being completely brain dead. Aurora should know that Cad is a cad and that her novio is not fond of him. She also hasn't told Santi she saw Barb and Damien violating her marital vows.

Ooooh, Jarocha, I, too like Lucero, but Babs?! I'll give you that she has some good lines, the best of all the actors, but Babs is evil incarnate with estrogen. I'll bet that even Hitler had a fun side to him.

Dorada Dave~~~HA....Evil Estogen..ha.

Yeah, I think we're going to see Lucio again before this is over. Maybe he'll get religion in jail and decide to confess to ALL of his sins and crimes - including the Manzanares murder and everything he did for Babs.

As for mystery question 7 - who does Venus have to seduce? I thought it was obvious that Esteve was referring to Cadmilo, even if he didn't mention him by name (I didn't notice). It was just the way he was describing him, as a guy who thinks he can buy anything he wants.

But maybe it's TOO obvious. Why be so mysterious about it? Is anyone feeling any suspense here at all? Is there anyone else it could be besides Camilo, so that we can all say "ooooooooh!!" in delighted surprise?

As for Vladi, I really hope that he finally experiences sanity and gets with a chick who likes him (Flor), but my hope is fading. Even if sanity prevails, I fear he's more likely to end up dead, or at least in jail. After all, he's been harboring a fugitive from justice, he's participated in a scheme to get Flor fired, he's aware of another scheme to get a Prolasa employee fired... his prognosis is poor.

Thanks for the recap, Jody. Thanks for the clarification. I had no idea that Fer had left something (her shawl) behind at the summer house. I was sort of irritated at Macaro for tattling but that was not the case. Barb offed him because he was inconvenient. He popped out when she was spying on Fer and Fr/Ed and then he went on and on because he had so little to do. He talked too much so why not kick him down the hill.

Both Crabi and Babs are multitaskers. They can burn, smother, shoot, whip, kick, slap and looks like Babs would also like to stab with scissors at some point. GinCA

Dorado Dave: Evil with estrogen is right haha, but what can I say, I just like how she can be so deadly and strong and still look her best, I tend to like the good villains. The best villains I can remember are Catalina Creel in Cuna de Lobos and Evangelina Vizcaíno in Cadenas de Amargura, what I'd give to see a big brother type of show with all of them together.

Jarocha

The looong kiss was great! Kiss # 3. GinCA

Great recap, Jody!

I can hardly wait for the transformation of Venus. She's going to be a complete knockout with Esteve's coaching and less makeup.

I agree that Babs is jealous of Freduardo and Fernanda. It's not just about their possibly messing up Ciggyman's Ruin the Elizaldes plan. Either she has a little yen for Franco Santoro herself or she just can't bear to see two other people attracted to each other, and on their way to something more. She certainly can't care about Fer putting horns on Damian since she's the one who set up their relationship and knows it was completely phony.

I sure hope we get to see Vlad punch Damian's lights out. He's getting more and more arrogant and abusive, sponging off Vlad and treating him like dirt.

Sigh. Abora is the dumbest female on the planet. She professes this great love for Santi but cannot see Camilo's moves are going to hurt him! And, yes, Santi should TELL Abora about Cad's history of snatching girls/woman away from him.

Babs vs Crabi: Babs in Round one, a knockout!

Dona Juana from Alborada was a great villain, but the evilest estrogen rich mujer I've ever seen on a novela was Dona Barbara from the show of the same name. Now she was Evil drenched in estrogen who dealt out death to her enemies via alligator, pitchfork, fire, and horses.

Maybe I should watch Dona Barbara after I finish with Alborada. I'm still on disc 1 side 2 so it might be a while.

I don't get Aurora at all. A guy who always makes you uncomfortable wants to take you riding, a means of transportation you haven't mastered, without any witnesses, and you say yes? Whah?? I've found her to be insipid at times, and I'm willing to blame a lot of her troubles on low self-esteem, but that made NO SENSE at all.

Now, Venus... it'll be neat when she learns good posture and everything, but for the short term I'd settle for seeing her in a new dress. She's been wearing that one outfit for days. (I think this is day 3 of story time - spent the first night at Martina's Dad's, the second night at FrEd's, right?)

Someone should have at least let her borrow something. Who'd like to see her in some of Esteve's things? ;-)

Someone mentioned an omni-directional antenna. Is there a brand name? My digital reception is usually good, but when it's not it drives me crazy.

Anon 12:39: "I think number one was cold-blooded Marcia Montenegro played by Anjelica Rivera in Mariana de la Noche who tried several times to kill a tiny little baby." Yes, I am watching Mariana now (on at noon CDT each day). It is in Ultimos Capitulos now. Marcia is quite the piece of work. Trying to kill the baby, whacked the padre a couple of times. If I would have seen Mariana de la Noche before seeing Destilando Amor, DA would have had a very different feel to it! Marcia M and Gaviota are quite different.

Other thoughts, I can see another big Denia hissy fit coming. When they dress Venus up for the party and I bet Denia will have to be a server at the party, you know Denia is going to be really pi..ed. :)

Jody, what a great recap. You really touched all bases. How long have you been recaping? and do you recap another tele? It's obvious that you are a pro.
Paula H, that was so kind of you to send that link. Time really flies because when I looked I guessed that it had been a week to 10 days and I didn't look beyond that. That's what makes this blog so great, the way everyone is so willing to teach and clarify and share opinions. Thanks again.
Now for my thoughts. I think that Santiago should stand up to Camilo in a more assertive way than just making a annoyed facial expression while squeezing Aurora as if he's helpless to do more. I like Barb. Second to Nanda she's my favorite. I get a kick out of her crying and lying to Gonzo. The only problem with the bad guys is that they overdo it with the bad acts and then the punishment is too drastic for my taste. For ex, they electrocuted Aaron in DA. They chopped off LaFont's head in Pasion and they buried Gabriela alive. Thank heavens for a judicial system. Damian is third on my list of likeables even though he's a bit too rough with Vlad. I was happy when I thougt Vlad was going to punch him. I even like Simple Simon Vlad. Pris has told him in everyway possible to get lost and nothing has sinked in. My guess is that the Novela Gods will punish Pris by having her eliminated in some way so that our stars of the show will be "rewarded" with raising her baby. It's not that I don't like her but I can't see her getting away with a few of her actions. Even now she's being an accomplice to Damian and forced to plant evidence.

Precisely because Venus is a "professional" I suspect that she will "fall" in love with Cad-ho. Que asco! I'll bet she's going to be drop dead gorgeous, which will really make Gardenia crazier.

The most evil & twisted woman I've ever seen in a telenovela is Dona Barbara. Malo, malo, malo...

Jeff, Mariana is one of my favorites of all times. It kept me hooked all the way through. Hope you're enjoying it.

I seem to recall Santiago telling Aurora about Camilo making a play for his girlfriends, specifically Erika.

It looks like he needs to make it plainer, stay away from that good for nothing slime ball. I think Camilo is the one that s/b el hiena, with that insipid laugh at every stupid thing.

Gardenia will only be jealous about Venus until she goes after Camil-ho. Remember, she protected Jacinto from Cam once. She knows what a p*&#( he is and will be glad to see Venus seducing him (just stay away from Ed). But, of course, if Cad tries to slap Venus around, she'll through him into a full nelson face down in the mud.

Jesus Lopez! Man, am I ever looking forward to the new, improved Venus. She will look like Audrey Hepburn, but there isn't a lot of time so there will glitches and gaps in her performance. So much the better for us. Camilo will fall hard anyway. I predict, meanwhile, Auroea will succumb willingly to Camilo's charms. Sadly for the boys, so will Venus. Carlos

Jody, thanks for the great recap, you are a PRO!

Venus as Eliza Doolittle and Esteve as Prof. Henry Higgens ---- The missing link in this equation is a remote comparison between Rex Harrison and Esteve. I can possibly see Venus, who is presently presented as an overdone tramp, transformed into an alluring beauty, but under the tutelage of our very strangely dressed, unfashionable Esteve, IMPOSSIBLE. Of course, we are in telenovela land and anything is possible.

It will be fun to see Esteve's concept of feminine elegance. I have confidence in him. After all he is Ivy League. And after all, just how sophisticated could Camillo possibly be? Carlos

Good point Carlos, Esteve's years at Harvard do give him an advantage in the Venus project. This is a fun plot line that should give us plenty of laughs. Camillo is the perfect foil for all of this.

Anon 03:22. Yes, Mariana de la Noche is pretty good. All of the good stuff you want in TNs. I think the stupid things done by the protagonists to keep themselves apart rank up with some of the stupidest things I've seen in TNs. But then, I haven't seen a lot of them. :)

Connie~~~Are you enjoying Alborada ? Alas, it was the first novela I ever saw , and it kind of ruined me. No other novela [except Amor Real] can compare.

I think Esteve's plan is for Venus to "seduce" Fr/Ed at the party. Of course, Fr/Ed is in on the plan. This is more of Esteve's trickery to throw everybody off about Franco Santoro.

Call me crazy.

Caborita

Sandy, don't forget that Esteve comes from a very, very wealthy family. I think he is probably well versed in the do's and don't of social graces. Too bad he, or the writers, prefer that dresses down.

rsk

Caborita, hmm, sounds like a plan. Venus pretending to go after FrEd. Oooh, that would really get Denia's goat if she starts flirting with the FrEdster. A party with Venus flirting with FrEd and Denia anywhere near by = disaster. :) I hope that is the plan, i'd like to see that one.

JeffMN

Oh wow. That would be very, very, very naughty of Esteve to send Venus after FrEd, even if FrEd knows about it.

It would also be hilarious to see how everyone reacts.

But I'd still rather she went for Camilo, because I don't think he has enough grief in his life yet. ;-)

Hmmm, Caborita, that's an interesting idea; "we" have been assuming that the Cadster was the target of Venus' affection, but this would be way more interesting. Oh, to be Eddy, with Venus, Erika, Fer and Gardenia all trying to get on your dance card...

Caborita's idea really makes sense now. Finally watched this Cap. The Avances had Errika talking to Fernanda about the mystery woman! Franco had mentioned to Errika that his former love was going to be at the party. That former love is probably going to be Venus??!! Yes, of course.

Hey west coast people:

Set your VCR/whatever to go an extra 6 minutes at least, because it's running late as usual for a Thursday, and those last few minutes (including the avances) are worth seeing.

I am pretty sure (in my own mind - ha) that Babs killed the old man because she didn't want Fr/Ed or Fernanda to know that she knew about their hideaway or their budding romance.

So, rather than just tell him not to mention to anyone that she was there, she handled the problem in a finite manner.

Silverfox

"Finite manner." LOL, Silverfox!
