La Fea Más Bella #15-16 9/22/10 Lety Crashes the Gate
Capitulo 15
1. To reach Fernando, Lety calls Marcia’s cell, but she hangs up on Lety. Saimon takes Lety to the club. They crash the gate and Fernando signs the papers. Marcia is furious that Lety went over her head.
2. Fernando wants Lety at the Cine-Rent business lunch, and he calls her his assistant. She looks foolish when she orders, but she steamrolls Diana. Omar tells Fernando that he mustn’t take Lety to classy places because she’s too ugly and too low class.
3. Some ad agencies have stopped hiring Conceptos. Luigi says it’s due to lower quality. Fernando says it’s because they owe Conceptos money.
4. In the car, Fernando promotes Lety to assistant. He delayed promoting her to avoid problems with Marcia..
5. Alicia begs Marcia to get Fernando to promote her to assistant. She is horrified that Fernando took Lety to the club, and she speculates that maybe something is going on between them.
6. The cuartel is all atwitter because Lety had lunch with Fernando at the club. Lety announces that she’s been promoted to assistant.
7. Alicia insults Lety harshly, so the cuartel defends her. They tell Alicia that since Fernando promoted her to assistant, Lety is Alicia’s superior and can boss her around or fire her.
Capitulo 16
Read Chris's original recap. Note, that recap covers Caps 16 and 17. If you don’t want to read ahead, stop at the paragraph that begins, “The next day Omar is hanging out.” That marks the beginning of Cap 17.
1. Alicia tattles that Lety is now an assistant and Lety threatened to fire her or mop the floor with her. Marcia is determined to make someone pay, either Lety or Fernando
2. Marcia dramatically tells Fernando Alicia’s exaggerated version. She demands that he not promote Lety. The cuartel expects to be fired because of the frakas in the bathroom.
3. Fernando asks Lety why she threatened Alicia. Lety explains the true story. Fernando is as gossip-hungry as Marta. Lety says any blame should fall on her. Fernando is impressed by Lety’s moral fiber.
4. Lety reports that Lopez called the cuartel to a meeting. Fernando relishes the battle ahead. Lopez reprimands them for taking a long lunch and for aggression against Alicia.
5. Fernando joins the meeting, to Marcia’s dismay. He reports what Alicia told the cuartel and reminds Lopez that Alicia is always late. He formally promotes Lety. Marcia is beaten on all counts. Lety nominates Fernando for sainthood.
6. Marcia is mad because Alicia’s version of the frakas will now cost Marcia strife with Fernando.
7. Ariel calls for his spy’s report. The report is limited because much of the financial information stays in Lety’s hands.
8. Lety reports that Fernando won’t reach his goals. Fernando tells Lety to cook the books. Lety is horrified by the idea, but with devils on BOTH shoulders they wear her down.
9. Alicia and Olarte join forces to bring down Lety.
Vocabulary. Maquillarse la balance. Apply make-up to the balance, i.e. cook the books.

We see an important change in Omar. Up until now, he's called Lety names and made smart-aleck comments like, "she was born strange," but it's nothing more than rowdy jokes. In fact, in the meeting vs. Ariel he became her human shield. Now, suddenly, that has changed. He tells Fernando she's too ugly to take in public, and he's serious! When did he change? When Fernando, Omar's only friend, brought Lety into their world (the club) and elevated her to assistant. I propose that Marcia is not the only one who feels threatened by Fernando’s closeness to Lety.
When Fernando entered the conference room, amid everyone shouting, Lety knew he was there and turned, before anyone else noticed. They already have a strong connection.
Did you notice? Lety sits in the president's chair. Omar sure noticed! This is the first time, right? Why do you think they did that?
Paula I really am enjoying your insight and comments. Thanks again
Thanks Paula.
Paula, I liked your observations about jumping and crashing. Great analogies.
No kidding, Omar was seriously threatened and so was Marcia. They both seem to get nastier and nastier don't they?
I had hoped that my analysis posts would provoke conversation. But honestly, I'm starting to worry that it's having the OPPOSITE effect - that I'm stiffling conversation by going too far in depth. I fear that someone who wants to post, "I died laughing when Fernando imitated Luigi!" will feel like this board is not the place for that kind of post. And it IS!!!
I think I'm going to stiffle the analysis for awhile, and see if more people post what they liked about the episodes (or whatever). If I see the conversation get rolling, then maybe I'll let the analysis creep back in.
Honestly, how does Alicia expect to be taken seriously in those getups? I keep watching to see what edge she's landed on and whether she's fully rotated, and taking points off her artistic score.
Luigi is about the funniest thing I've ever seen. We need more of him and less of the club. They can be a bit much.
It's driving me crazy that I can't decide where I've seen the horse club restaurant waiter before. Was he the slimy guy in Guapos who slept with Lina and left her pregnant? If not he's played that sort of character somewhere.
I'm going to have to mostly stick to giggling about how funny all the characters' impersonations of each other are, though. I like it when Lety mimics Fernando's twitty girlfriends.
The restaurant at the club - isn't it also Le Noir? Or has Noir not shown up yet? I forget. It will also show up as a third restaurant much later (shhh!). Reminds me of the restaurant in El Clon: TORIM - The Only Restaurant in Miami. There was also TOPIM (park), TONIM (nightclub), TOMIM (mall), etc.
Did Marcia seem suddenly more ugly about Lety in today's cap's? I'm watching ahead (to keep up with the double-headers), so I'm a little out of synch. I know she went ballistic out in the club driveway, but is that the meanest we've seen her, so far?
Julia- the waiter is the same guy who played Manuel (with and w/o mustache) in Mi Pecado, I believe.
Marcia got really mad when Lety told Fer "calmate", when he was so exasperated with Ana Leticia's interrupting the meeting.
I like seeing Marcia and Alicia squirm when their plots against Lety fail, and they can't stop Fer's growing dependence on Lety.
I had forgotten just how hateful Marcia was to Lety. Her haughtiness at the club actually put the company at risk.
Speaking of the club, who was that man that was hanging out with Marcia and Ana Leticia? Was that Camil's father? (I seem to remember that he did a cameo or two later in the series and someone told me he was Camil's dad... maybe I'm remembering wrong.) I think that in the story they identified him is Fer's uncle?
Remember I said Lety and Ali are equal and opposite? Lety was crying because Fernando named her assistant. Cut to Alicia who is crying because she wants Fernando to name her assistant. (Okay, that was an analysis. I couldn't stop myself.)
also, when Fer told Lety he wanted her to stay for the lunch meeting, Marcia protested and 'Tio' echoed Marcia... then Ana Leticia wanted to be the third voice but Fer said if Lety had not come she would not get her money. Instantly Ana Leticia changes her stance and we hear someone laughing. I could tell it was Don Jaime because Jaime looked at him like 'stop it!'.
ITA on the Omar changing his tone with the Betty jokes and attitude toward her once Fernando waltzes in public at 'their usual hangouts' with Lety...
Also when Alicia was protesting to Marcia she said Lety was moving up from pond toad ['sapo de charco'] to tank(?) queen ['reina del estanque']
Loved your comparisons for Lety and Alicia, Paula! right on the $!
I noticed something. Fernando deliberately does NOT intervene when Lety is having trouble with Alicia. He knew they scrapped in the baño, but he was going to let Lety handle it. But Alicia always goes running to Marcia, and Marcia DOES intervene for Alicia. At that point it becomes Marcia, not Ali, who is against Lety, so at that point Fernando must step in to overpower Marcia.
