La Fea Más Bella #9-10 9/17/10 Poor Little Rich Kid
Capitulo 9
1. Paula ditches Saimon for Omar, but Omar ditches Paula for Ali, so Paula kisses up to Saimon. Shmuck!
2. Lety confesses to mama that she’s a secretary. She gets Tomás to help her create the business plan. She worries she’ll be fired if they don’t finish it.
3. Omar and Fernando both claim to their women that marriage should not be a permanent contract. The unstated conclusion is that Marcia will overlook anything, as long as Fernando marries her. She agrees to a civil marriage with no church wedding.
4. Instead of helping Alicia create the business plan, Omar seduces her.
5. RoboPop calls Lety downstairs so he can brag about her to his drinking buddy. Tomás speculates that Lety worries more for Don Fernando than for her job. They work all night.
6. Lety loses her CD. Fernando freaks out because everyone is late. He doesn’t let Lety talk and doesn’t notice she’s injured. He throws a loud pity party for himself. Erasmo hears Fernando yell at Lety.
7. Omar and Alicia arrive together. Fernando asks Alicia for the business plan.
Capitulo 10
Read Chris's original recap. Note, that recap covers Episodes 10 through 13. If you don’t want to read ahead, stop at the paragraph that begins, “Fernando has no recollection of firing Lety.” That marks the beginning of Cap 10.
1. Alicia didn’t create the report. Fernando gives her two hours to finish it. He feels like nobody helps him. He won’t let Lety tell him she created the report.
2. Ali begs Omar to help her, but he tells her to get lost.
3. Erasmo arrives and Lety tells him to leave. The kids have the CD and they are unable to get it to Lety.
4. Fernando’s anger overflows to Marcia because she foisted a useless secretary on him. Marcia tries to spread blame to Lety, and Fernando says he’s going to fire Lety.
5. Paula and later the cuartel fuss over Lety’s leg. Fernando fumes at Lety. After his walk he fires her.
6. In the vortex, the children give Fernando the CD and also Ana Leticia’s falsies. Lety tries to explain everything, but he doesn’t hear her because he’s so absorbed in the business plan. He forgets he fired her, so he doesn’t stop her from leaving.

Fea has been playing for one week now. I'm curious. How many of us are here on the board? Even if you usually just lurk, would you please wave or something? If you don't want to leave your name, that's fine; you can sign your name as "paper clip" or "pickle patrol" for all I care. I just want to find out how many people are here with us.
Notice we get another Heidi appearance? Luigi's hair model is Jaime's real-life novia, Heidi B. We also get some more attention on Fernando's wooden model.
Fernando encountered his first business problem in Cap 8, with the wrong projections. In 9 at the Candelaria, already he starts lying to Marcia about the business problems when she asks why he is so tense.
In Cap 9, Fernando complimented Simon in front of Paula, IOW Simon is on his way up in Conceptos. Still Paula doesn’t consider him contender.
This is a crazy week which is beginning my crazy fall so I will stop by when I can for the next two months then I am off to Oaxaca for the winter experiment. I am watching LFMB, NateBerkus new solo show, Oprah's last season, Llena de Amor, Hasta Que El Dinero, Soy tu Dueña, La Verdad Oculta, y Charlie Rose y Tavis Smiley: in that order. Too nuts but addiction is not easy to give up. Then to think that in November I will go to Mexico and get caught up in all the new TN's that have started there.
Fidelity is a big theme here in love relationships, friendships, work hierarchy, and family. Often misplaced good intentions make for home humor while the rich and famous dig their own graves by betraying each other.
Self-Esteem is played out largest with Lety but echoed with the trials of all the working single Moms who have to balance work and children with little time or energy and support to give themselves. Even the pretty ones show us how hard self-esteem is to achieve and maintain. This covers the men as well as the women, whether it is Fernandod trying to prove that he is up to the Presidency or Lety's Dad trying to keep his iron hand on the running of his family which turns out to be over bearing at best.

THANK YOU so much for this spot to comment and for the recaps. I haven't had time to this week, so hopefully next week. Hey- maybe I don't have much time because I'm sitting in front of TWO hours of La Fea. I wish they hadn't made it such a time commitment. One hour would have been better.
Anyway, loved the show today!
Hope you got my e-mail with the pics. If you want something else just let me know, I could make them bigger or smaller.
I've been trying to ff through the show every day to catch highlights, but these two-hour things are killin' me. I hope they switch to one hour soon because there's no way I'm going to be able to keep up with two once the major networks start running new stuff. I may not even have time for one hour. :(
Grr, Univision! Your timing could not have been worse!! This would have been great over the summer!
I am here, but have only had time to watch into Wednesdays show. I will try to get caught up! lol.
I still think this is my favorite novela.... maybe because it was my first.
One reason I think LFMB was so great is the acting is so animated and the sound effects hilarious, and Jaime Camil, of course.
I saw this version before YSBLF and liked Fernando and Lety better. JMO.
The US version was stupid and I never did see the ending.
If I had time, and could find the other 15 versions I would watch them.
Thank you Paula for all the work you are doing!

Your recaps are very entertanig. Sometimes I read recaps even though I don't see the shows.
Thanks a lot from Ana
I'm also thoroughly enjoying everyone's take on what makes Fea so exceptional. I find it very interesting that it touches a different nerve for each of us. Cheryl, I never thought about the fidelity theme, but you're right, especially if you include Fernando's loyalty issues. Keep those cards and letters coming in!
I know the two hour schedule is a killer; dimelo a mi (tell me about it)! But whatever you do, don't miss Monday's two cap's. Really good! Hey! Lety's fired. She might never see Don Fernando again, right? Even if you have to skip today's or next Tuesday's caps, don't miss Monday.
La Paloma
Aha! I thought that was Heidi.
Thanks again for your snapshot recaps, links to Ferro's original recaps and your thoughtful conversation. This is really a fun TN that I didn't get to watch the first time around.
Dona Felipa
Dona Felipa
Here is a peek at Angelica Vale. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angélica_Vale
Now you can see how this beautiful woman is doing a fabulous acting job! I still wish they wouldn't make her so clumsy and silly but I hope those plot devices will fall off down the road.
Ferro wrote about Lety's robopapa on his way to show up at his daughter's work. "I don’t know if my brain can handle martial arts and Spanish all at the same time. Maybe to top it all off it could be in black and white, showing some other guy smoking a cigarette and talking about death, like a German film. Then the TV would explode."
A classic Ferroism!
The novela is exactly the same as what ran in 2006/07. Later they may cut a few scenes to make more space for commercials, but so far I think it's identical.
I don't consider what I write to be a recap. Ferro wrote the actual recaps, and I link to them for each episode.
I thought it would be confusing to go to one page to read the recap, then a different page to comment. To make everything less confusing, I just make a list of the major scenes from each episode. That way people can reference the scene list as they are writing their comments or reading the comments of others.
The other thing I add is the "Spanish Lesson." The idea is that you read the transcript as you watch the scene, and you try to understand how the actors' Spanish matches the English translation. That's how I learned Spanish back in 2007, with the VCR remote in one hand and the Caray recap in the other. I tell people that Jaime Camil taught me Spanish!
Be sure to check the Characters List (link). You may even want to print it out because it has a picture of each character. That way when I say, "Olarte tells Ariel..," you can check the photos to see who they are.
Sylvia, I know just where to get good Chiles en Nogada. Standing offer, the next time you're down here, we'll meet there for lunch, okay?
Julie, I feel your pain regarding the double episodes. Pero te aseguro, the time will come when we will wish they would double up. There are two phases I can think of, that just seemed endless.
It looks like we have about fourteen people participating here. Is anyone else lurking who hasn't checked in yet?

I saw this when it originally aired but missed the last half of the novela. I am not watching but I am having a giggle reading the funny recaps from Ferro, and Paula H love reading your spanish 'lessons'. I too am trying to improve my spanish doing it your way, hence always 'lurking' within Caray. Your efforts are really appreciated.
Margaret
Margaret, in that case take a look at this page, for Learning Spanish by Telenovelas. Does it work? Well, when I started watching Fea, I could hardly understand anything. Eighteen months later I was recapping!
Thanks for that link. I will check it out, but you obviously learn quicker than I ever will, lol.

It's also great that he's installed her in the closet in his office, ensuring that he can never have much privacy. No hiding stuff from her when she has to walk through all the time. I assume she'll be back tout suite and disrupting his meetings once again.
