La Fea Más Bella #179-180 1/21/11 Party Night.

Capitulo 179.
Read Julie’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. With the torture session finished, Marcia leaves. For Fernando, everything boils over. He screams, “LETY!” In Acapulco it reverberates in Lety’s core, and her world freezes.

2. Fernando tells the bartender that he’s the lowest kind of trash. He lost the woman he loves and he lost everything (remember what PG said?). It’s a cute, funny scene. Fern cries over Lety’s picture and gets sloppy drunk.

3. Caro tries to disappear and Lety is reluctant to be alone with Aldo. She tells him, “It seems that you want more than a friendship, and I can’t allow anyone to make a mockery of me.” He says he’d like nothing better than to be loved by a woman like her, but he can’t.

4. Aldo tells his story. He was happily married to Lenore for four years. She died in a wreck, holding hands with his best friend. Now Lety can see why Aldo can’t face falling in love again.

5. Lety encounters Tio Federico. She tells him Fern deceived her and made her feel like garbage. He says she deserves to be happy. He gives her a fatherly hug.

6. The taxista pours Fern into his cab, and he shows off Lety’s picture. That’s four people in one night! He says the board will thrash him because the woman he loves delivered his head. That’s exactly what Marcia told him, and it’s what prompted this binge.

7. Lety dreams that Aldo comes to her room late and starts kissing her hungrily. She wants to resist but her hunger wins out. The dream disturbs her.

8. In the morning Caro wants the chisme. Lety felt like Caro pushed her to have a fling with Aldo. Caro says Aldo obviously likes her, and she should enjoy herself.

Lety says that Fernando looks a lot like Tio Federico (played by Jaime Camil Sr.), even more than his own father. I'll let you decide for yourself.

Capitulo 180.
Read Alma’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Aldo takes Lety diving. Afterwards she sits in wonder. Ariel pointedly reminds her that it was worthwhile to get over her fear. Aldo laughs with total abandon. He tells her she carries the immensity of the universe insider her, or something like that.

2. Caro opens the pageant for ordinary women and she emphasizes that what matters is attitude.

3. Irmita’s kids tell Luigi they want her to retire and come to the US with them. She calls a meeting of the cuartel for advice.

4. Fernando arrives at the meeting a mess and still a little drunk. Humberto shouts at Tom throughout. Ariel says Conceptos could be permanently transferred into FI’s hands any day now. Lety needs to sign the documents to stop the process. Marcia, Ariel, and Humberto are sure Lety wants to keep Conceptos.

5. Fern tells the board their accusations are ridiculous. Humberto tells him to shut up, he hasn’t learned anything from his error, and his stupidity has no end. Ariel says his new business venture failed for lack of new capital, and Fernando lost his patrimonio. Humberto calls his son useless. Fernando cries.

6. Lety realizes that it doesn’t matter if the cup is plastic or crystal. What matters it what’s inside. She says, “Ay, Aldo, como te quiero.” (Note she shifted from usted to tú.)

Comments:
Thanks Paula for the head shots! I for one do not see the resemblance between Jaime Jr and Jaime Sr. Maybe he looks more like his mom.
Anyway..
It seems that Aldo the guru is good for Lety he is helping with her low self-esteem. Which makes me feel bad for Fern because he has as much low self-esteem as Lety and nothing but alcohol to help him. I also think his self-esteem runs lower than Lety's since hers are mostly about her looks and how people treat her because of her looks. Deep inside she knows she is more she is smart loving and caring and most importantly has a loving family.
Fern has the looks and charms but inside he is not as confident he does not think he is smart or good at anything. He does not even stand up for himself anymore and today neither did he for Lety. The way he's treated by his parents I am surprised he is not in therapy. but he makes a great drunk!
Jenn

PatA, I love the picture you caught, of Aldo laughing. Perfect!

Didn't you just love Fernando's hand monologue in the taxi? Who knew a hand could perform so expressively?

Julie, I finally figured out the closing line of #179. The problem was, Lety slurred “a lado de” so it sounded like “a la de” which didn’t make any sense. Caro: What matters to me is that you’re doing okay. And it’s probable Aldo’s company makes you feel perfect.. L: I felt better at Don Fernando’s side when I was still happy with him.

About Jaime Sr, I believe that his business is primarily Acapulco hotels and real estate. So it makes sense that he'd have a cameo in the Acapulco phase.

Slight correction from yesterday. I got ahead of myself. I said that Fern told four people in one night that he loved Lety, but two of those were actually in today's caps. Sorry.

Okay Jenn, you twisted my arm (jiji). When Jaime Sr was younger, he looked a lot like Jaime Jr now IMHO. I found this picture. Jaime doesn't look anything like his mother, but it seems like he gets his personality from her, especially the intensity, the impulsiveness, and the enthusiasm. Next to her, Jaime seems almost subdued! She's a real firecracker.

Speaking of Lety's dream kiss with Aldo.
You said it disturbed her. Well, it literally disturbed me watching it. OMG it was the grosses NOT romantic kiss. Absolutely nothing chemical about it. I hope I don't have to see many more of those....
On the contrary, even from the first kiss with Fern (in that bar, in the dark and he didn't like it) there WAS something between the two. And it was projected on scene. And each kiss after increased in projection.

Loved, loved, loved Fern drunk in the bar. Especially the taxi!!! When he fell sideways, I laughed out loud.

Jenn, your comment about Fern having the looks and charms but inside is not as confident---- I believe you are right because when someone like Fern (handsome, funny, sexy, rich) lives his life, everything easy comes to him, he never had to grow "an inside". And the reverse is what happen to Lety.
Now they need to catch up to each other in the growth dept.

Okay, is anyone else tired of Acapulco?
Can Fern PLEASE find Lety??!!!??
Aldo is remaining to be insufferable.
Diann

Paula, thanks for the link to when Jaimie Sr. was younger and the picture of them together now. Thanks to Julie and Alma for the orignal recaps as well.

I loved the bar scene and the taxi scene. Hey Judy B did you recognize the bartender? Isn't that Mauricio from Llena?

I find it quite interesting the contrast of our two major locations. Conceptos is all tense with snarly people dumping on Fern and Acapulco is relaxed and full of people so nice to Lety. If I were Lety I would never want to go back to that hostile environment.

If Marcia’s taunt yesterday drove Fernando to an all-night bender, and he can’t stand Marcia… what will Humberto’s thrashing drive him to, considering his lifelong yearning for his father’s approval?

I've only seen the first half of #179 so far but the recap makes me anxious to see the rest. That bartender does look familiar -- but I've never seen Llena so he must have also been in another show. Also that pro that Omar hired yesterday, wasn't she the sister of Chef Hawt from Querida?

Güera

Güera, the bartender was the orange-faced evil good-for-nothing brother from MEPS. You probably didn't make the connection because he's so likable in this.

I see references to MEPS a lot but I don't know what it stands for.
-- Güera

Jaime Camil is marvelous. When that hand came up from the backseat, it reminded me of Thing from the Addams Family. I feel sorry for the actor playing the cab driver. I bet the directors just cut Camil loose to do his thing. The cab driver was trying so hard not to burst out in laughter. I've acted but don't think I'd want to do it with Jaime Camil around. I don't think I can think on my feet that fast.

As for the Aldo and Lety kisses. I know Aldo, in the long run, will be very good for Lety. But here's the problem I have. She's broken-hearted and stll in love with Fernando but allowing herself to be wined and dined by a man who has more than friendship on his mind. How much is she using Aldo, though she doesn't realize that? She felt like a woman in Fernando's presence and then she felt like scum lower than that on a cockroach's belly when the board meeting occurred. Is she now seeking validation in Aldo? If she is, it's the wrong thing to do. If you depend on other people to validate you, then your emotions and sense of well-being will ebb and flow like the tide. Lety needs to understand who she has been created to me and so does Fernando. His father is abusive, heartless, and cold - so is his mother. Fernando was not loved enough as a child and never validated for who he is beyond what he can do to make his parents look good. Shame on them! Lety and Fernando both need to find themselves within themselves and not in others. Only then will they be able to come back together and be the loving couple they're meant to be.

I'm going to add one more thing. Aldo reminds me of a nicer Professor Higgins from My Fair Lady. He's teaching Lety about life and she's grateful. I'm afraid though that she'll confuse gratitude with love.

Diann I thought the kiss was more "real" there was definitely lust and desire by both but they seemed to go at it like real people in lust and desire would. With Fern the kisses seemed staged, beautifully so but IMHO not real kissing. Actually a lot of the kissing in telenovelas in my opinion is staged.
Paula you are the bestest and my only reliable source of Jaime Camil trivia. Maybe we should ask trivia pursuit for Camil edition. think of the hours of fun!!
I love the My Fair Lady reference BarbaraM. There is a lot of growth in LFMB through meeting other people. I also thought of My Big Fat Greek Wedding where Nina goes through the transformation on her own because she is sick and tired of being ugly.there was also the overbearing father! But there was no Aldo or Caro just her wanting to change. But we do not see it with Lety at all it happens only by meeting other people.
Jenn

I just watched the taxi scene. Fabulous! The hand, the fall, the "I'm never going to sleep again until she comes back" followed immediately by falling asleep. Barbara, you're right about how hard it must be to act with Camil when he is riffing like this.

Oh, and I loved it when Fernando started showing his photo of Lety around and telling people that she is "tan divina". Another of those parallels I like so much.

Güera

I thoroughly enjoyed todays' shows, and greatly appreciate the shots of Jaime Sr. I do see a resemblance in the 2nd link, when jaime Sr was younger.
I kept giggling when the Playa Band performed--I called them band 'Happy Feet'--and what gyrations! The music was festive for sure. And lety's dancing was priceless, as was the expression on her face, while dancing.
'Nando's slurring speech made interpreation of the show today all the more challenging!
Tomás and the feas are just hysterical--and i find myself thinking 'Ayy , desgaciado' many times at work! LOL
Philospher Aldo seems to have all the analogies. But, I don't care to see the 'crash' scene and him screaming "No-o-o-o-o-o" any more.
No LFMB over the weekend--but my compilation DVDs came, so i plan on catching up to present time in the series. Thanx paula for telling me about them!

Güera, Fernando is so cute at this stage when he's showing Lety's photo and telling anyone who will listen, how much he loves her. In fact, they're all people who are PAID to listen! My favorite was the first bartender at the callgirl date. Fern was still sober and he was on cloud nine because he thought Lety was coming. In fact, it was the only time he's been happy since Cap 165. Just mooning over his Lety.

Jenn, I'm glad to find an eager listener for my Camil trivia. Lemme' see. Y'know that electrifying Camil/Vale chemistry? I have to wonder if part of it is that Vale is similar to Jaime's mother. They share a similar body type, a similar sassiness, and both are firecrackers.

Here are three clips for you:
otra vez
El mundo otra vez - Funny!
1999, Para estar contigo - I suspect he wishes this clip would disappear off the face of the earth.
2002, Mulata - wash your eyes and ears out with this one.

Finally, if you like Jaime's work, I wholeheartedly recommend that you follow him on Twitter. Es muy, pero muy buen twittero.

Güera, MEPS is Manana Es Para Siempre. It had a lot of familiar actors in it, including Lucero and Fernando Colunga.

Thanks for getting that last line of 179, Paula. I was really stymied!

Gah! I almost fell on the floor. The bartender is Agent Orange from Llena, the rapey snake, Malicio and all those other horrid names we have for him. OK, I've gathered myself and can continue watching...

We also called him Oompa Loompa and Cadmilho.

Poor guy. He's probably really sweet in real life, but our hate for him during MEPS was limitless and so were our nicknames!

I had to miss these two due to work, but enjoyed the recap and all the comments. I do remember Lety's profound lesson about the water in the cup, the ocean, the crystal goblet. Sorry I missed Fer's comic scenes, there's no one quite like him.
La Paloma

Pata, I like your comparison of the laid back Acapulco to the food chain jungle of Conceptos. Lety sure had a great 24 hours, beach party with live band and dancing at night, then boating and diving the next day. I was jealous! By comparison poor Fer is living through hell right now. The worst of it was the public rejection and humiliation by his father. Camil is a master at looking hurt and my heart really went out to Fernando.

I'm not tired of Acapulco yet. I vote that Lety stay and enjoy the scenery a bit longer. Plus, I think it's important that she and Fer learn and grow while apart from each other.

Julie, isn't awful how we (meaning I) easily typecast these actors? It's a testimony to Roberto Palazuelas that he can generate such a gut reaction from me.

Thank you for the great screen shots, links and recaps. Camil is absolutely amazing when he gets a free reign. I watched the cab scene twice. I think he resembles his father.

Thanks for the Camil treat Paula! I am thinking he went platinum blond on a dare. He has such a sense of style that more often hits then misses I doubt he would have ventured out looking like a frosted vulcan!
Sylvia I also like the Acapulco scenes. Lety should stay there because nothing remotely fun or therapeutic is happening at conceptos. Besides her tan is coming along nicely...
Jenn

Paula,
That blond clip of Jaime----talk about serious hair damage!!! No way can you take that black of hair and turn it blond, looks like they stopped after trying 2 processes

I wonder if he wanted to see what he'd look like if he went all grey (like his Dad)
Jajajaja

Diann

Jenn, I don't know. I've seen Jaime take on some pretty, ahem, "unique" looks when he's not in a role. For example, the Cristina for Tontas. The beard was for an upcoming role, but that sweater? And the glasses (they're fake)? Another time he gave an interview in grass-green slacks.

I think it's because he's such a payaso - the exaggerated faces, the silly hoppy dance he does, and the hilarious stuff he says during interviews. In that same vein, I think he likes to play around with different looks, almost like playing dress-up. What fun is dress-up if you don't go a little extreme? I think the blond look was part of that playing around. Especially since he was about 26 at the time. Being young is a great excuse for all kinds of foolishness.

During the press blitz for AxM (2009), he had this hair style (bottom row). Frankly, I think he was playing a practical joke on the press. He played it totally straight, like, "Do you like my new hair style?" The interviewers didn't know what to say - no one was brave enough to say, "That's the most godawful thing I've ever seen!"

I suspect the other reason he did it was because he COULD. He can't usually cut his hair as he likes because he has a role coming up in the next several weeks, and there's no time for it to grow back. But he was going on AxM and wouldn't have an acting role for the next four months. So he did something really radical to his hair while he could.

Love all of the Jaime Camil clips and pics thanks for sharing them Paula.

I had to re-watch the eps today on youtube because I missed a lot of them on Friday. I had a call for the first half of the first ep. and was sort of lost/unfocused for the rest.

Just one thing that I find annoying - why does the board keep having these meetings if they know Lety is unavailable right now? I know it seems dire to them (yes I get it), but she holds all the power. Why not approach it from the perspective of setting the meeting when she's available to come instead of having all of these useless meetings where they play the will she or won't she show up game?

I just think it's ridiculous because I've never worked in a company where we held a meeting hoping someone important would show up. We always knew whether or not they would attend. If they couldn't we decided whether their attendance was important enough to reschedule.

I think you guys have covered all of the other big things in the eps...I won't re-hash here. I will say that the scenes with Lety/Aldo on the boat made me smile for some reason. I think seeing her happy makes me happy.

Oh and although I like Lety and Aldo together - I agree with most of you who said the dream sequence kiss seemed awkward. Maybe it was supposed to be that way? I'm not sure, but I did notice that it didn't look like the greatest kiss.

My late two cents! Can't wait for tomorrow's eps.

Paula the sweater? what about the cookie monster blue pants!! It takes a lot of chutzpah to go out dressed like that. Maybe he is color blind and insists on dressing himself. Na...as you said he just likes to have fun.
Jenn

It does seem quite futile of them to keep sitting around, as if Lety is going to show up just because they wish it. They've never been in this position before, apparently.

As much as the Acapulco scenes bore me, it gives me endless amusement to see the Conceptos board sitting around feeling miffed. Heh, losers! How does it feel to want? She's not your employee any more and you don't get to call the shots! Maybe you should have been nicer to her!

Chutzpah? Jaime Camil? No puede ser!!!

I far prefer board filler over cuartel filler.

And about the pants, Jenn, not that I think about it, I think it was the "cookie monster blue" pants I was thinking of, but my brain changed it to green. Love that shade name!

Even after 8 and 12 years, these recaps are still a treasure! I'm watching LFMB for the first time this year (this year I have access to cable TV, which I didn't have during LFMB previous runs), but couldn't wait to see the ending, so ended up doing binge-watching on YouTube. I know there are bound to be some LFMB "lurkers" here like me, long after the original recappers and commenters have moved on to other telenovelas.

First and foremost, better late than never, thanks to all the recappers and commenters!! Though I've studied Spanish since I was 15 (in school), my reading skills are much further along than audio. Though listening comprehension has drastically improved since getting into watching Spanish language TV. Now I can understand a great majority of audio without captions, and about 90% with captions. With this great website, everyone's posts have helped fill in the blanks, and lets me get background info on the actors and cultures.

While watching the show and going through these recaps/comments, I found some topics that weren't answered in the original 2006-2007 and 2010-2011 recap comments. My first post will be here to address one topic, and later will post in other pertaining Caps. (Don't worry, even now no spoilers will be leaked.)

Everyone was puzzled in the original recap, and this still wasn't answered in the 2010-2011 update: Why did Frederico (Jaime Sr.) just pop up out of nowhere on that beach to talk to Lety? Simple. He was a member of that band!! If you look at the stage while the band is singing, if you're facing the stage, he's there in front, on the right hand side of stage, behind the floor speaker. Apparently while the band was packing up or after they'd already gone, Frederico had lingered on the beach, where he met Lety.

Normally we do not post new comments on novelas that have ended. Most new comments come from trolls or spam. Caray is trying to do a little better, closing comments, but it's a slow process.

It would be nice if you could join us on some of the new ones. It would be nice to hear your voice on the Patio.
