La Fea Más Bella #249-250 3/11/11 ¿Me dijo Don Fernando? (Did you call me DF?)

Capitulo 249.
Read k-Fuego's original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Teresita tries to convince Fern to stay. See the transcript. He tells her that he resigned so Lety might stay. Lety won’t believe him, and he has no way to show his love is true. MamaT gets an idea.

2. Ali thinks Ariel will be the next president so she asks to be his assistant. He tries to pimp her but Tom punches Ariel in the face. Alicia fusses over Tom.

3. Marcia says they need Fern to stay to be president, or Ariel will sell off the company. MamaT says Fern needs Lety – they make a good team. Marcia needs to accept that Fern’s never coming back to her. MamaT knows she loves Fern; is she willing to sacrifice for him and for Conceptos? Everyone’s future is in her hands.

4. RoboPop assures FrostyPop that Lety won’t resign, and she’ll give everything she’s got to save Conceptos. Ali tells Tom she’s evicted. He says he’s not rich and can’t pay five months of back rent.

5. Marcia begs Fern to stay and be president. He refuses and says she should convince Lety instead. She’s the best for the company. Marcia says he’s already lost Lety. He should stay here with those who genuinely love him. She says if he goes he’ll ruin the company. He says he ruined it long ago.

6. Caro bumps into bitter Omar at the gate. He says that Conceptos makes him sick, and she suggests that it’s the other way around.

7. Marcia’s finest hour. She tells Lety (paraphrased), “After Doomsday, Fern confessed that he loves you. You left, he couldn’t find you, and he wanted to die. After his other affairs, he always returned to me. But after you, he never touched me again, nor any other woman. The night he left me, he was very clear. He loves only you. I’m telling you this because I love him and want the best for him.” Six times, Lety tried to tell Marcia she’s staying, but Queen Marcia shut her up. See what bad manners can cost you?

8. Aldo sells his restaurant, and we hear that he’s selling his house and boat too.

9. As Lety eavesdrops, Fern tells Irma how marvelous she is. Saimon begs Fern to stay. Fern counsels him to make up with Paula. Saimon offer a deal – if you stay, I’ll marry Paula and have 15-20 children.

10. Paula remembers to give Lety Aldo’s note. “Remember, I love you, and love is liberty.” Irma urges Lety to admit that she loves Fernando.

11. As Fernando is getting into his car, Lety runs out calling, “Don Fernando!” He freezes, walks to her, and says, “Me dijo Don Fernando?” She nods and he gives her the kiss of the century. Caray, caray!

Capitulo 250.
Read Amanda's original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Fernando and Lety drive off. The cuartel weighs in. Irmita thinks they belong together and she’s sure Fernando loves her. Juana says it’s Lety’s turn to be happy. Paula, Sara and Lola think he’s going to hurt her again. Marta says nothing. Alicia is shocked.

2. Lety says that coming from Marcia, she believed it. Fern confirms, “I love you, Lety.” Lety says she never stopped loving him. On the phone, Mama warns her to be careful. Fernando butts in, “Hi, mother-in-law!”

3. Ali wants to tell Marcia something and she won’t like it. Marcia says, “Nothing can be worse than having told Lety that Fernando honestly loves her.” She did it to save the company, so Lety wouldn’t resign. Ali says that everyone knew three hours ago that she rescinded her resignation. Marcia blames Lety for not telling her because she always blames her problems on Lety.

4. Fern says, “Just tell me that you’ll come back to me. That we’ll live our lives together. That you’ll accept me again (he probably means intimately).” Lety says they need to work through a lot of things first, and it will take time. His skin and hers need to meet again. He says he doesn’t need time. He needs her with him now and forever (not just until the tide goes out).

5. Fern says that if Lety hadn’t stopped him, he would’ve left for Rio for years, because she wasn’t with him, and because it was the only way he could leave her alone. She’s worried about Marcia suffering (Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!), but he says that their own suffering must not be in vain. He asks what happened between her and Aldo.

6. Teresita suggests to Marcia that maybe Fernando was never really hers. With distance she’s seen that he was never truly committed to her. Marcia refuses to accept that.

7. Lety says she and Aldo kissed twice, and Fern is worried that it was the horizontal kind. Lety explains that she wanted to die and Aldo saved her. Fern admits that he’s insanely jealous.

8. He gets awkward and asks if her skin has met his yet. She stammers then agrees and he starts an ignition kiss, but she scampers away and says it’s all too much. Launch aborted. He waits until she gives tacit permission before he follows her. He takes her hand and gives her space. He takes her face and looks for a green light to kiss her again. When he doesn’t find it, he holds her warmly and she is very content.

9. He writes their names in the sky. In the morning, he says it’s like the dawn of their lives, too. He asks her to marry him. See the transcript. He has to ask six times before she finally says, “It’s what I want most in my life.”

10. Back in DF, he’s eager to get married as soon as possible. He doesn’t want anything to get in the way. And now he wants to get back his dignity by putting Conceptos right.

11. Aldo tells the judge he wants to pay off Conceptos’ debt.

Spanish Lesson: Teresita Shines

Teresita: What are you going to do?
F: What I should’ve done when I lost the presidency. Resign.
T: No, you can’t do that. Now with the resignation of Leticia, we need you more than ever. You should assume the presidency.
F: I have nothing to do here. The most sensible thing I can do is leave. Because maybe Lety will decide to stay, and that will be the best thing for the company.
T: So your leaving is her fault?
F: No, I’m leaving for my sins (culpas). Besides, I don’t want to bother her any more with my presence.
T: Ah. And how do you disturb her?
F: Mama, Lety and I are in love. I hurt her a lot, and she’s still suffering.
T: You really love her?
F: With all my soul.
T: You know I’m not at all pleased with your relationship with that woman.
F: I know. But it finished. I’ll never get her back.
T: Fernando, whether or not I appreciate that woman, I can’t stand to see you like this. Leticia should give you another chance.
F: Lety doesn’t believe me. She’s gone a long time not believing me. She doesn’t trust me, and there is no way to show that my love is true.

The Proposal
F: It seems like the sunrise of our life, doesn’t it?
L: Yes, DonF. What a beautiful thing to say. Like our lives are dawning.
F: Lety .. let’s get married. Do you want to marry me?
L: It’s that.. I can’t believe it.
F: Lety, answer me. I’m asking if you want to marry me.
L: Do you mean it, DonF? Are you telling me the truth?
F: Yes, Lety, of course. Tell me. Do you accept?
L: I believed nobody would ever ask me that.
F: I’m not just asking. I’m begging. Marry me, okay?
L: Don Fernando, tan divino. I’m happy, DonF. This is the second happiest day of my life. The happiest was my last birthday. And now today.
F: Then tell me yes, okay? Tell me that you’ll marry me. Please.
L: It’s what I want most in my life. It’s the only thing I live for, Don Fernando.
F: Lety. Mi Lety. Gracias. La amo.

Crazy busy. Just now finished WRITING recap. Haven't edited. Sorry if it's rough. Pictures coming later for #250, maybe not until Sat morning, pls be patient.

Thanx, Pata.

fm my notes:
Y’know, Camil Sr. did a few cameos on Fea. I think he should’ve played the part of the guy who bought Aldo’s restaurant. An Acapulco businessman with enough assets to purchase a valuable business at a moment’s notice? It’s right up his alley, um, boulevard!

From old board. Aldo just sold his restaurant. So what finances will Lety manage in Acapulco for him? His unemployment pay?

Veterans, be advised, I'm going to be pretty aggressive with the delete button this weekend, for even the slightest hint of a spoiler.

OMG! OMG! I COMPLETELY FORGOT that Tomas punched Ariel!

The sad part is that I recapped the punch. (The first episode was a tag-team recap - apparently Caray's first tag-team recap ever!) How can I forget something as awesome as Tomas punching Ariel, especially after writing it down?? Bummer, that scene was probably pre-empted on the east coast...

Humberto=FrostyPop: good one, Paula!

And spectacular pix as usual, Pata!

The whole of 249 was pre-empted on the East Coast. It came back just as 249 was ending. Celso saying goodbye to Fern. then Lety coming outside with her "Don Fernando..." and the kiss. Then 250 started. Without any tail end 249 rehash.
The day we NEED rehash, they don't rehash...c'est la vie. (Ooops, French)

I'll be back later to read everyone's posts. I have to go to work now. (Waaaa, and my work does not allow any internet viewing of any kind. Meanies.)

See you all later. 250 was an awesome cap, can't wait to see what you guys have to say.

Diann

Wow! That was some kiss. But I have a feeling we are not in the clear. There are 50 more episodes no wedding is going to take that long to plan:( But I noticed that the new happy Fernando is not as goofy as the old happy Fernando.
I was hoping that the octopus would get aldo while he was romping in the ocean. He can't pay off Conceptos debt!!! We need to see that old Lety and Fernando magic at work fixing things. Omar was so sad without his suit and tie. It seems Conceptos is what is making everyone unhappy maybe it is the true villain. Speaking of which could Ariel just disappear??? and Paula a while back you mentioned how DF is real life and Acapulco is where one goes to heal and return to real life. then you mentioned another place where one escapes the world. is the resort where Fernando and Lety go the place?
Jenn

Good memory, Jenn! And now I can finally answer. It's Rio. At the resort, Fern told Lety that had she not stopped him, he would've gone to Rio d'J for a couple years or decades. He wasn't going to heal, but to escape reality.

So sad that the east coast lost #249. Well, at least you didn't lose #250. And between the original recap and the transcripts here, you have a good record of the important conversations.

When Lety was on the phone, Fern butted in, “Hola suegra!” That term applies not only to the mother of your wife, but also of your novia.

There is one little moment in #250 that I just LOVE! Look at Paragraph #8 of the second episode. What a man, WHAT A MAN!! I just live how he didn't take even one step toward Lety until she "agreed" to it. Most of us agree that Aldo is trying to totally control Lety. When Fern is with Lety, he demonstrates a different kind of control - SELF control!

Per usual, Jaime's acting was first-rate. His scenes with Lety were touching, honest, romantic, and hot. When Fern kissed Lety, there should have been fireworks going off in the background. That was some kiss. Fernando was tender, respectful, and loving to Lety. What was so funny was Aldo dreaming about he and Lety while she's canoodling with Fernando. Out of sight, out of mind.

I love the preview that shows Aldo walking in on Fernando and Lety kissing. Serves him right. But, as someone said, there's still 50 episodes to go so something has to happen to push Fernando and Lety apart. I wonder if it is something Aldo does or Marcia? Goodness knows, Aldo isn't going to be happy that Lety has been kissing Fernando and not him. He'll probably spend an inordinate amount of time recalling to Lety all of Fernando's bad deeds and characteristics. I expect that we will see Aldo scheming more than ever before. And I wonder how Fernando will handle it all. He now knows Lety still loves him and she knows he loves her. It's got to be something big to split them up. C'mon Paula, give. Am I going to dislike Aldo even more than I already do?

I kept thinking as I watched today's caps that the whole Lety & Fern reunion had to be a dream. I don't believe it! I loved it, but I still think it's an elaborate dream sequence because of what Barbara said -we still have 50 caps to go.

Aldo - wow - when I saw him walk into the judge's office - I was like what is he up to? Then BAM - he says he wants to pay off the debts and the game is re-set!! I love it!!

Three biggest shockers for me - Thomas growing a pair of cojones + Teresita and Marcia Marcia Marcia actually doing something to help Fern find his happiness. I loved also that Marcia was mad that she'd done it and blamed Lety for not telling her the truth.

Now I have to go read the detailed recaps, but I just finished the caps and wanted to write my initial impressions. I'm so glad I bought those DVD's now. Best investment ever - given how many interruptions there have been on some really important caps.

Today was really great - can't wait for Monday.

PS - I think Alicia is going to pop out of her dresses at some point soon.

PPS- Caro and Omar - is there something there? this is twice in two days that we've seen these characters together...

PPPS- Is Aldo a bad guy? Or is he trying to save the company for his love (Lety)? He has no idea she's gone back with Fern yet so I don't think his motivation is really evil yet -I think it's like Jenn or someone said on yesterday's board he's just trying to rescue her again. Oh and how cheesy was that dream image he had of Lety in the sea...

Don’t you just love Fernando’s strength of resolve ever since he got back from NY? What a man! What a change! It really struck me as Marcia was begging him to be president.

How wonderful it is, in the car, to see Fernando COMPLETELY happy. He’s with the woman he loves, she’s loving him back, no lies, nothing hidden, he’s grown up, and he’s giving love instead of taking it. This is the first time in 250 caps that we’ve seen him in clean, pure happiness.

Paula, thank you. Again great episodes and really appriciated the dialouge between Fern and Theresa.

Barbara, you said, "When Fern kissed Lety, there should have been fireworks going off in the background." Gee, I thought there was! At least in my head. From now on, will the phrase "¿Me dijo Don Fernando?" always pack an emotional punch? For ME, that kiss was the greatest screen kiss I've ever seen, probably because of all the emotions leading up to it.

And Barbara, I could spill the beans, but then I'd have to delete myself. (I have this image of Bullwinkle sucking himself into a vacuum cleaner.)

Yes, GP, the disks are well worth the money, huh? 300 hours of enjoyment? What's it work out to, around 50 cents per hour?

The noive of Marcia! MamaT convinced her to make the sacrifice to save the company. But talking to Lety, she got all pious, saying, "I love Fer and true love isn’t selfish, to really love is to wish the best for the other even if it’s not with me." Yeah, so nominate her for sainthood. That is, until she found out Lety didn't quit. When Marcia realized she could've saved Conceptos without telling Lety, she was furious! So much for 'wishing the best' for Fernando!

Aldo doesn't know that Lety is back with Fern, true. But as soon as Aldo saw Fern encourage Lety at the food expo, he knew his days were numbered and he tried to get her out of DF ASAP. Then remember his face at the restaurant, when Lety saw Fernando crying. Aldo knew he had to move fast, but Lety couldn't leave until the debt was paid. So Aldo quickly took off for Aca to get money to pay off the debt, so he could get Lety out of there, because he knew Fern was on the verge of winning. At least, that’s how it seems to me.

I think I'm having a senior moment. Did I just delete someone's comment by mistake? In the last 10 minutes. Not the one I deleted this afternoon. Somehow I thought there was one more there. If I deleted yours in the last 10 minutes, please forgive me, it wasn't intentional.

I also loved Paragraph 8 cap 250. Fern was so gentle and truly caring when Lety broke away from his kiss. He calmly asked what was wrong, what was SHE feeling. I can't help remembering all the times he wanted her for HIM. How HE was feeling. Totally different Fernando than before. Oooh, but didn't you just looove his quivering "asking" for, uuuuhhhh, them to uuuhhh, he was sooooo lovable. Damn Lety you have steel in your head....

I also kept remembering the earth/water reference. Lety/Fern were at "earth". The mountains. Aldo was in water. Acapulco. Aldo was fading fast. His vision of holding Lety disappeared right out of his embrace.

It was so nice to finally see Fern happy. Really happy. He was shining with happiness. I loved the line "Leticia Padilla de Mandiola. Her face just glowed.

But, as others have stated. 50 episodes is a long time for the happy to last. Dang! I just know they are going to torture us with more Aldo upheaval. Can't that man just drown or something?

Diann

I almost forgot! Today's song.

Tanto Amar, sung by Alejandro Fernandez. The lyrics in English

So much love without speaking, and living on hopes.
So much dreaming, that today you give me (fulfill?).

So much love in my flesh. To be faithful to you in my inner self
So much pain that finally disappeared

Finally you’re with me. There is so much to talk about.
You fill my dreams and teach me to fly.
There are so many things to answer.

What if it destroys me? No, I love you without fear.
What if I go away? No, I’m here.
Do I understand you well? No, but I feel you.
Now nothing else is missing, my love, I know it.

So much faith, so much imagining.
And now you stand here looking at me.
I just can’t believe it.
----
Please forgive any translation errors. AF's songs are always so poetic, it really "beats my lips" trying to translate them.

One thing that I read from the previous re-caps was that there was a preview of Lety's makeover...I'm wondering what precipitates the change. One thing I'm wondering about is PG's prediction for Fern. I don't recall the exact verbiage, but doesn't he say that Fern will have to cut ties to the business for his happiness? When Fern tells Lety in the car that now he can restore honor to the business and get it back - it made me think there's a lot more that can go wrong - even if Fern and Lety make a great team together.

I definitely think Aldo will be throwing a monkey wrench in their plans. I wonder how he's able to accomplishing selling off his house, restaurant and other assets all in one single day. I really must move to Acapulco if things move that quickly.

I also think that as much as we blame Aldo for being obsessive, crazy or whatever - Lety has led him on. He thinks he has an opportunity with her because of her wishy-washiness with him. She tells him "I can't leave with YOU until I make things right here at Conceptos and help them pay off their debts." He's just trying to make it happen in the best way he knows how - in fact he's willing to sacrifice his life long dreams to be with Lety. I think that yes - the way he's going about it seems a little rash, but think about it - I think he truly loves this woman or at least he loves the way she makes him feel.

Paula - you mention that Fern was playing the odds as far as his love with Lety was concerned - I think in some ways Aldo is doing the same. Aldo knows that she still loves Fern, but as far as he knows he (aldo) still has a chance maybe 5:1 that things will work out in his favor if he pushes things along.

I don't agree with Aldo's decision by any means, but I sort of understand it. I've said it all along - Lety is something that he desires and he'll move heaven and earth to make it happen. Most of all he's a man. Men tend to think that situations can be fixed and that's what he's trying to do. I don't think it's necessarily motivated by any ill will at this point although that may change once he sees that Lety and Fern have reconciled. His character certainly makes things interesting in LFMB land...

Oh and I meant to comment - Lety's outfit on yesterday's recap looked really awful so I'm sort of glad it's almost makeover time! I can't wait...she was doing so well, then back to the opaque white tights/black shoes combo with that suit that made her look about 30 lbs heavier!

I agree GP. Lety has looked so much better lately in her professional wardrobe. The Pink jacket outfit & the black/white dress especially. Then comes the day of the big reunion and she is in a horrendous outfit.

I also still agree with GP about Aldo. On the same day Fernando decided to give up Conceptos and head off to Rio to allow Lety to heal and Aldo gave up his lifelong dream of the restaurant in order to be with Lety. Yes he is doing that male rescue thing. But he is motivated by the same love as Fernando Both believed that the sacrifices that they were prepared to make were for Lety's sake.

Güera

Guera- maybe Lety's outfit was an outward manifestation of her regression? That's the only thing I can think of that makes sense to me. As she regresses her outfits will get worse? Maybe Monday's outfit will be much nicer now that she's free to be in "love" with Fern again. :)

Paula - the song you chose makes sense - especially for Fern. I hope that it makes sense for Lety as well...

I must say that i was a bit broken-hearted when LFMB was pre-empted. I work nightshift in a hospital, and watch 2 hrs of LFMB right before I go to sleep (at 2 pm) each workday. I went to bed before 1 pm, as I couldn't stay awake, but was thrilled to read the recaps at work last night of yesterday's 2 episodes! thank you all so very much.
then when i got home from work this morning i actually found both episodes on Youtube (in 10 minute increments). So I have just watched them! (Acabé de mirarlos)
I must say that I was misty-eyed!
Thank you to those who commented about the telenovelas and how various actors/actresses are in several of them! Reminds me of the stephen bochco shows (L A Law, Hill St Blues, NYPD Blue--in which the same stars were in lots of episodes)
Have a great fin de semana a todos

I find it interesting that Fernando has been consistent and constant in loving Lety even when he could not admit it to himself or others. His was a linear path to love and I may be mistaken but he never did relapse in how he felt about her. He relapsed in resolve but never in love. From disgust to admiration to love he was steady in the course and now he is a goner. I can't see anything dislodging Lety from his heart. This is not the case with Lety and perhaps it is because she fell fast and hard. I think this explains why when they got together she hesitated and maybe that is why she is keeping Aldo close by. Maybe now she is leading Fernando on by saying indirectly that she will marry him. She needs to work on her resolve and by the looks of it Fernando seems to be willing to let her do that hoping that she will finally arrive to his level of commitment.
Jenn

Here's my take on Lety with Aldo and Lety with Fernando. I don't like Lety when she is with Aldo. She's childlike, harsh to Fernando, rude, incapable of making decisions without Aldo's help, and just too doggone needy. When she is with Fernando, her head is screwed on straight, she can make decisions, she's tender, and she's loving.

Aldo has to do something to upset the apple cart. I agree that Fernando's feelings for Lety have been steadily increasing. Also Lety did fall fast and her fears are that she is making a mistake. Aldo plays into those fears and I think he'll continue to do that and step up the game. I also agree that nothing and no one can dislodge Lety from Fernando's heart. I don't think Aldo can dislodge Fernando from Lety's heart and he knows it. But still he is doing all he can to push Fernando to the side. Lety needs to wise up. I suspect, Paula, that I will be griping a whole lot more about Aldo in the upcoming weeks. He may love Lety but I don't love how she is with him. She's not becoming stronger but more dependent on him. I believe that's what he wants. Fernando offers marriage but what does Aldo offer? Acapulco and what else? Shacking up together but no hint of marriage. Not Lety's style - simply not her style.

Concerning Lety's outfit on 250. I seriously think wardrobe had to come up with an outfit that would be warm enough at that mountain resort. Remember she goes straight from office to outdoors. Plus, I think the scenes were filmed out of order because at the mountains Angie's voice was hoarse (sick?) and you could hear the wind blowing, it was winter in Mexico, it was nighttime. I'm sure it was COLD. So they bundled her up for the scenes and that's why she looks heavier. Then for continuity that had to use the same outfit for the office scene, but without the bundling, so it looks like it hangs on her.

Okay, I'm toooo much devoted to details. But that's my take.

LOL - I think we're all a little too devoted to details Diann - otherwise we wouldn't be here on this board. I personally think it's a fabulous quality we all share. :) I did notice that Angelica's voice was hoarse in the scenes at the resort (or where ever they were) and I can even understand that they needed to keep her warm, but did they really have to put her in opaque white tights with that outfit?

Barbara - I happen to agree that Lety and Fern seem to bring out the best in each other when they aren't playing silly games. Aldo did have some good effect on Lety earlier on - like she says he did rescue her when she didn't want to live anymore...I think the thing that I like about Lety with Aldo is that like it or not he always pushes her to explore new experiences. I agree he also seems to have this weird negative effect on her as well - although sometimes I think it might be less about Aldo and more about Lety getting caught up in all of her own issues...

We'll have to wait and see how things shake out on Monday...I for one am counting down!

Barb - another in agreement with Aldo being bad for Lety and encouraging her childish behavior while Fern has always treated her as an adult something no one else ever did or does.

This is the last episode where I ever felt the least bit of sympathy for Marcia. Does she need a brick wall to fall on her to get it through her thick skull that FERN DOESN'T love her and probably never did. He told her in plain English, make that plain Spanish that he didn't love her and never would and then Teresita tells her once again. I can understand wanting to hang onto a dream but there comes a time when reality should check in. That conversation between Mama T and Marcia looked very uncomfortable when you look at how far they were sitting apart and then leaned in to give each other a hug.

Yikes Mama T's brick red hair and Marcia's purple dress looked terrible against those green walls. I've had a boatload of red hair colors but nothing that fake looking.

Aldo the delusional has now gone beyond the pale in selling his restaurant and going to the judge to pay off the Conceptos debt. In essence all he is doing is trying to buy Lety. He continues to treat her like a child who has no mind of her own who needs big strong Aldo to protect her. He knows that she loves Fern and he knows that Fern loves her so he is a thick as Marcia. The two of them have the mind set that if they want it they can make it so.

Points to Tomy Boy for punching Ariel. I've been hoping for some time that someone would because if anyone ever deserved being clocked, he did.

Poor Lety out all night and arriving him while Erasmo is having breakfast. Should be VERY interesting to see what lie she makes up to explain where she was.

Paula a really hard episode to comment on without stepping over the line. Can't tell you how much i had to cut out of my own comments and with March Madness beginning on Monday I don't know how I'm going to cram Fea and Mar de Amor into my schedule. LOL

Oh yes I was on pencil patrol and Lety's pencils switched three times. It is interesting that it only happens to her pencils, everyone else's always stay the same.

I with you Decie-girl; Aldo is delusional. He has the propensity for playing the white knight saving the damsel in distress. He rides in to save the day so Fernando can't, hoping that will win Lety for him. A grand gesture, no doubt, but a stupid one. Aldo is too afraid to let Fernando and Lety work together to save Conceptos, so he tries the grand gesture. I wonder how Lety will react and Fernando? I think Lety will be grateful but somewhat miffed because she'll see that Aldo didn't have faith in her to pull Conceptos out of the financial dumps. Fernando will be pissed, plain and simple. Aldo is butting into a business where he doesn't belong but Fernando and Lety do. I think Aldo will hold the money over Fernando's head but Fernando will work even harder to be able to pay back Aldo. A major battle is a-brewing, I'm sure. My money is on Fernando.

decie girl and the other veterans, thank you for being careful about spoilers. I know it's hard; I've been chomping at the bit too.

Newbies, we have quite a few good episodes coming up next week. It won't be boring.

Westvillage posted this on the TNW BLF forum:
Marcia, like Jacob, wrestles with her angel until she gets the blessing. Jacob and his mother had tricked Esau out of his inheritance, something like Marcia and Teresita had, through omission, deceived Lety out of what was rightly hers at that point: learning of Fernando's real love for her. But the moment comes when Marcia has to face her wrongdoing, just as Jacob went back to clear his wrong with Esau. Marcia's conscience is the angel. She sits and wrestles painfully with what is the right thing to do and all that would mean for her. She emerges ready to do the right thing, with the blessing that she is able to tell the truth to Lety, which will clear the way for Lety to accept Fernando's love.

Personally, I always thought that Jacob's wrestling with the angel was the mature Jacob's painful rumination on the wrong he had done to his brother . a real dark night of the soul. By morning, he'd accepted it, taken inner responsibility for the wrong, and was ready to move forward. Those were Marcia's moments of memory: her confronting what she had done and making herself ready to right it. She came to work that morning still on her high horse, not knowing that finally she was going to have to admit her loss and the damage done by her lie, but if she did, Conceptos could be saved.
---
Marcia showed that she is superior to Aldo. Marcia knows Lety & Fern love each other, she tells Lety. Aldo knows and doesn’t tell anyone.

Steps forward? BOY HOWDY! Up until Doomsday, Fernando's obstacles were external - family, the presidency, etc. Doomsday he lost all those, but he still couldn't win Lety until he overcame his internal obstacles. His biggest were love for Conceptos, and selfish love.

He finally overcame both. He turned his back on the offer of the presidency, and was ready to leave Conceptos forever - he dumped the "lover" who always had first place in his heart, just like he dumped Marcia.

And he was leaving so Lety could have peace. He sacrificed the only thing he loves, Lety, for the sake of her happiness. Finally real sacrificial love. Finally he deserves to win her.

I forgot to post this when Fern and Omar fought.

Have you watched Citizen Kane lately? When Kane first takes over the newspaper, we meet his friend, Leland. Friends since college, got in trouble together. They sound like Fernando & Omar. Leland always keeps himself in second position, in the shadow of the king. Kane likes having a reliable never-equal at his side. Leland is astute - he sees things that Kane is clueless about. When they have their blow-up, Leland even gives Kane something similar to Omar's "we're a hell to women, and women are a hell to us" speech.

Do you notice? You never hear ANYTHING about Omar’s family. It’s as if he sprang fully formed. Correct me if I’m wrong, I think we only see his apartment when Fern is there, or when he’s missing Fern. It’s as if he has no identity, no life, apart from Fernando.

One more post (for now).

A crab canon is a musical piece that turns back on itself. Kinda’ like a round, but instead of repeating with delay, it turns backwards, and the second part overlays the first. Well, in a lot of ways, LFMB is a crab canon!

* Lety punishes Fernando for not loving her,
> but he suffers because he does love her.
* She never would have won his love,
> were it not for the betrayal.
* He never would have put his love for her first and turned his back on family and company,
> were it not for her rejection.
* He would never have grown beyond selfish love, into love that would bring sublime happiness to both,
> had he not lost her and felt the depths of suffering.

Lety told Aldo she can’t leave for Aca until the debt is paid. He says she’s letting those people take her happiness. WRONG! Aldo’s happiness may be based on a lovely view of the ocean and warm breezes and getting everything he wants. Lety’s self esteem and happiness is based on honorable actions, helping people around her, and accomplishing something productive.

I am with Barbara about how Aldo is being selfish and Lety not being comfortable as herself around Aldo...
Aldo went to acapulco to cash out his assetts in order to pay the debt, which is the only thing (or at least that is what he wishes) that holds Lety tied to Conceptos.
But what he doesn't do is give Lety the uncommitted space to make the decision on her own... He is taking for granted that because he is paying Conceptos debt, she will go with him to Acapulco... But what if Lety says "No"? has he tought of that?? Why is he so sure Lety will go with him? is he trying to buy her choice?? is that letting her decide?? not in my book.
Fernando, like you all said, has finally turned the page and is practicing unselfish love, he is putting Lety on top. PERIOD! even if that means he has to go away and renounce to his own feelings for her in order for her to be at peace and free to make her own choice. As much as it pains his heart he is willing to dissappear from her life and losing her for good.
I don't see Aldo giving Lety that space. I see ALdo taking for granted that Lety is his once he pays the debt.

and btw, in central time zone, we got same as east... we came back from the japan reports just when Aldo was quietly celebrating on his own in Acapulco and then we see Fer and Celso saying goodbye right before Lety runs out and we have the 'you called me... DF?'

I agree, Aldo is trying to take away Lety's "excuse" for not going to Acapulco with him. First she said "yes" to Acapulco, and then she said no because of Conceptos.

But Lety also told him that she NEEDS to solve the Conceptos problem so that she can live with herself. It's not clear that he heard her.

NOW... all that said, Fernando had to blow it at the last minute... why oh why would he spend the last 24 hrs thinking only of her and then in their goodbye in the car say something tteo:
now that I have you I can get my honor and the approval of my family/father... my other needs in life...
and Lety guessed right... you mean Conceptos?... yup...
DUH!!!! step back for sure!

I've been thinking about sacrifices:

Aldo sells all his stuff for Conceptos. Big sacrifice.

Marcia hands Fernando over to Lety. Honestly, a cheap sacrifice considering that Fernando wasn't really Marcia's anyway, but it still felt like a big sacrifice to her.

Fernando offers to leave town and avoid Lety so that she can work at Conceptos without being tormented by his presence. Big sacrifice.

What is Lety's sacrifice? Does staying on at Conceptos qualify as a sacrifice, when it's a duty that she already agreed to? Her only other option was to go to Acapulco with Aldo, but presumably Aldo can wait a couple more months.

Julie,

Lety never sacrifices. It's all about her. The big event went over budget and the debt couldn't be paid. Her response pack and run to Aca with Aldo. Lety is too immature to think about others. Unfortunately i don't see her ever changing.

Paula actually we have seen Omar in his apartment without Fern. Usually with some babe but as a person in his own right. Also very early on Fern mentioned something about a car that Omar had in school that his father had given him. We have no idea if he has siblings - I suspect not since he tends to treat Fern as a brother and refers to him as such and as for a mother none mentioned. I've sometimes wondered if he had a mother who deserted him setting him up for his mistrust of women. He once said that he likes a lot of women because it protects him from being hurt. That love is synonymous with pain. In a lot of ways he is a more fully developed human being in contrast with Lety and Fern who began as pretty one note. Fern has grown but Lety has not.

Aldo says Conceptos is a wall that separates her from him. WRONG! Her love for Fernando is what keeps them apart. All Conceptos does is prevent him from taking her away so he can have complete control over her.

Well, of course Lety should have told Aldo "I just don't want to go to Acapulco with you" instead of using Conceptos as an excuse, but that would have interfered with her strategy of hedging her bets.

That is my least favorite thing about this extended-by-Televisa phase of the story (even more than Aldo): Lety is being written by someone other than Gaitan; she is being written by someone who really seems to hate Lety!

Decie, you have a good point and new subject of discussion... Having seen both novelas, Betty shows more 'growing' between the day 1 (VERY low self esteem, to the extent of writing herself off in competing for jobs due to her uglyness) and as you say.. one note. the girl scout who follows her dad'd 'advise' adn not willing to go against it.
But Betty matures... By the time she gets back from the time away (some of this happened after the embargo and then after the letter), she is much stronger, much more willing to face up to Marcela and Patricia (Marcia and Ali). Remember the way she introduced her 'stragegy' at the first meeting after she became President, and how she clearly LEADS the company...
But Lety, if she ever had a similar maturity growth (she does show some more co_____ facing Ariel and Marcia after the embargo and letter), it seems to have backstepped with Aldo's influence, at least after Aldo got to Conceptos...
I guess this is one of the drawbacks from the extension... not sure, have to watch more to see.
