Teresa Fri 6/3/11 #71 Babies ‘r’ Us

Casa de la Barrera (combo scene) Tere tells Arturo she can’t have a baby with him (yo no puedo tener hijo contigo). Art immediately flips – Whachoo talkin’ bout? He jumps up reminding her they were both in agreement before they wed that they would have children. Oh, she agrees, mi amor, but shouldn’t they wait until they’ve had more time to enjoy their love? She reminds of how they’ve argued since the wedding. He tells her that’s all been cleared up and they need to move forward. He tells her of his discussion with Paloma la Patética, telling her she must respect his marriage or he’ll transfer all his interests to Teresa, severing all contact between them (Paloma & Arturo). Teresa feels this isn’t over yet. It remains to be seen if Paloma follows through with what he has asked of her. He comes back to the subject of babies. She wants to wait until everything is honky-dorry between them. She doesn’t want anything worrying (angustia) her. He asks if that’s really all that’s holding her back. Of course she wants nothing more than to have his child but she’s a little frightened. She’s not sure she can provide what a child needs: time, attention. She SAYS that’s what worries her but we all know different, Teddy told us so.

Hospital: Espe tells Hernán el Galán of her altercation with Rubigote and of her moment of weakness when she thought she’d give in to his demands of reconciliation. But she stood her ground and told him she wants him out of her life. Hernán tells her she did the right thing because although she denies wanting it now, she can someday find another man. She tells him, yeah that’s just as well in Chinese (eso sí está in chino) because men today don’t want a commitment, and with another’s child? No way! Then comes the killer – When she saw Ruben today, she realized she still loves him and couldn’t even look at another man. Aww, Hernán is dejected. He’s saved from having to discuss further by a call from Hector the Director. They part and he stares longingly after her. I sob quietly.

Aurora’s Casa: Aurora is discussing the subject of her mother with Martin. She insists Juana should know but Hector is afraid of Juana’s reaction. Martin tells her everyone has secrets and thanks her for having confidence in sharing this with him. Aurora tells him she feels she can share anything with him. He’s honored that he’s the first to hear her story. He’s happy their relationship is coming along so well and thanks her for allowing him to try to make her happy. Such a thankful guy.

Casa de la Barrera: Tere and Art are now on the bed. She’s still telling him she wants them to enjoy their marriage because when the children start arriving, well, everything changes. He tells her she just says that because she’s so young. Like he’s so old, she says. He's so strong and healthy. And, he says, he wants to have a baby while he can still enjoy him. He’s dying to have a child so together they can watch him grow. She’s not giving in. She thought he made her partner so she could work and have her own success as an attorney. Arturo tells her she can continue to work at home as she always has. This is the only gift he asks of her, is she going to give it to him? She says no, kissing him, and then says of course she can never refuse him anything.

Casa Grumps: Pati and Griselda are washing off the wall where Pati had scribbled frowny faces marking the days until her adulthood. Grumpy wants to talk to her about her failing grades. What does he expect, she protests, when he has her locked up like a prisoner. He reminds her he loves her very much. Then let me have a boyfriend. Absolutely not, says Grumpy Granpa. She’ll either bring up her grades or he’ll send her to a boarding school far, far away.

Hospital: Hernan asks Hector about the missing wife, Vanessa. There’s nothing to report and he’s almost hoping the PI doesn’t find her, saying it would be best for both him and Aurora. She was so hurt by the abandonment. Hernan risks angering Hector by saying that Aurora’s pain could be just as much Hector’s fault as Vanessa’s abandonment. He should’ve been up front with her from the very beginning. And tell her what, Hector asks, that her mother abandoned him for another man without wanting to take her daughter? That would’ve hurt her even more. He’s worried that if he sees her again, the pain will resurface. Hernan thinks he should also be thinking of Juana. Hector doesn’t want to lose her. Hernan feels it would be best if Juana hears the story from him and not from someone else.

Vecindad: Juana and Refugio are talking about Cutberto. Juana doesn’t want to give him any hope. He has the right to a family. He has a woman that can give him children and she just wants him to be happy. Refugio asks how does she know his happiness isn’t by her side. How many times does she have to tell her, she must tell him she can’t have children? She has to decide between Cutberto and Hector. Refugio compares Juana’s dilemma to that of Teresa doubting between Mariano and el Licenciado. And look at all the drama that situation has caused.

Casa de la Barrera: Oh goodness – the Barreras are asleep in bed. We hear baby xylophone music and Arturo is happily dreaming with visions of a baby held in his arms. The xylophone goes kinda psycho when we next see Teresa dreaming of looking into a bassinet with a dark-haired baby and thought bubbles “you have to be Mariano’s baby”. Tere wakes up with his name echoing in her head, Mariano, Mariano, Mariano then struggles to get back to sleep. This wakes up Arturo and she tells him she had a terrible nightmare. He comforts her telling her it was only a dream. She tells him she would die if he ever left her, just die. They settle back in, he’s cuddling her and her eyes are wide open in….fear? terror? Maybe thinking what if?

GOOOOOOOD MORNING VECINDAD! (combo scenes) -- Espe’s at the clinic. Mariano is telling her Ruben wants him to stay away from Aida. But Aida’s been very nice to him, helping him forget about Teresa. Espe’s concerned about having Aida around because of el bebé. At the same time she doesn’t feel it’s right that he distance himself from Aida because of Ruben. Then she lets on that she saw him yesterday, angering Mariano who wonders if he needs to talk with him again. Espe tells him that’s not necessary, she’s already sent him to the devil (mandé al demonio). He sees how upset she is. She can’t help it. He’s the father of her child and even though he’s a sinvergüenza (shameless), she can’t forget him. They hug, oblivious to Aida walking in (dunno how, you can hear her heels coming a mile away). Espe tells Mariano that she’s aware that what she had with Ruben is over and she never, ever wants to see him again. Aida makes her presence known by announcing that she’s very happy to hear that it’s clear to Espe the relationship with her father is over. Espe tries to leave but Mariano won’t let her. Aida wonders if he’s now going to defend her. He doesn’t want any problems between Aida and Espe or else Aida can’t continue to come here. He knows it’s impossible for them to be friends but asks that they at least come to an agreement to get along and not argue. Aida wonders (loudly) how he expects her to get along with this TIPA who tried to destroy her family! Tearfully, Espe announces she will leave the vecindad very soon and she won’t have to see her nunca más and leaves. Mariano tells Aida he was serious about them getting along. Aida says it’s going to be difficult to contain herself so she hopes Espe leaves very soon (muy pronto). Espe hears this from the window and starts to cry.

Casa Alcazar: Aurora tells Daddy that she told Martin the whole story about Mamá. She just needed to vent (desahogar) with someone. She needed to talk about everything she’s feeling and Dad never wants to talk about it. Daddykins is very sorry. He thought it was best to bury the past but he’s now finding out that may not have been the way to handle it because now she’s grown with the pain of not understanding what went down. She makes it clear that as a child she didn’t understand, but as an adult it’s clear to her that Mommy Dearest left them for another man. He shares how he fears running into her again, not knowing how he’ll react. She’s learned to face it head on and he should do the same. He was alone for so many years and now that he’s so happy with Juana by his side, he’s afraid that confronting Vanessa will ruin the happiness he’s found. (sniff, sniff)

Casa de Patética Paloma: Teresa’s come a-callin’. Teresa knows her husband came to put her in her place. Paloma doesn’t know how she managed to make Arturo believe her. It’s true, she saw Tere kissing Mariano. Tere’s amazed how things turned out. Despite all her lies, Arturo decided to believe in her and even made her partner in his law firm. So there! Paloma wonders if Tere plans to take everything from him and leave him in the street. Tere’s not going to deny that being partner makes her very happy but it’s equally important that Arturo loves her and believes in her. So, it’s best that Paloma get out of their lives because do what she may, Arturo will never return to her. Paloma shouts that Teresa’s a liar, a hypocritical social climber (arribista). She’s only interested in Arturo’s money. No, no, she’s wrong, says Tere. Arturo represents much more to her than money and no one will take that away from her. Are we clear? Well, her job’s done here. She just wanted to give her some advice so she wouldn’t suffer anymore and stop groveling (arrastrada) because no matter what she does, Arturo won’t pay her any attention. Paloma’s not sure; she and Arturo get along very well in every aspect. That’s all in the past, says Tere. What can she possibly offer Arturo? Just look at yourself, she says as she flashes her pearly white shark teeth. Nothing, much less what he desires most: a child. Considering her history, that would be dangerous que no? Tere leaves her in her wake.

Juana’s (combo scenes) : Cutberto comes by. As they’re exchanging insults to their respective novios, Hector comes by. Cutberto leaves and Juana tells Hector he had come by to invite her to the annual pilgrimage (peregrinación) to la Villa de Guadalupe (church dedicated to Virgen de Guadalupe). Hector jumps on this and asks if she’d like for them to go together. She tells him she can’t decide yet because she’s so busy. Maybe they should wait until later to make plans and besides, he must also be very busy. He’s dedicated himself to his work for so many years and now he wants to enjoy his life. He wants them to share some of that time together. Juana nervously agrees. He gets serious and tells her it may seem silly but it’s been difficult for him to date a woman after so many years. She understands because the same thing happened to her after losing her husband. She never thought she’d be able to let anyone into her life again. He’s grateful to be given that opportunity. He has unresolved issued with Vanessa. Juana says he doesn’t have to tell her about any of that. She doesn’t want him to feel pressured. They’re getting along just fine and they should just let things happen as God sees fit, with no pressure. He’s very relieved to hear that.

Casa de la Barrera (combo scenes): Tere tells Luisa she needs to go see her ob/gyn. Luisa excitedly asks if they’re ready to start a family. Tere thinks it’s important that a couple first adjust to each other (se acople) but Arturo is insisting. Luisa acknowledges Arturo’s desire to have children. Tere has a lot she wants to accomplish in terms of her career, especially now that she’s made partner. Luisa wonders if she’s not anxious to take care of her own baby and besides she’ll have the help of Luisa, Juana, and her mother. Tere can’t think of giving up work at this time. It’s one thing for her to agree to have children. It’s another to dedicate herself to being a full-time mommy. Luisa offers her help when the time comes. Tere tells her that’s later. In the meantime, she has a lot she wants to accomplish.

Tere overhears Arturo and Fernando talking about the Saenz case. Saenz is out on bail and now Arturo needs to prove his innocence. He also tells him about visiting his notario and Fer assumes it was to change his will since he’s now married. Arturo tells him there’s no change to his will. He still plans to leave everything to his future children. Tere backs off the balcony in disbelief. He’s going to leave everything to his children and not her? [Arturo needs a more secure office space. Anyone can overhear sensitive discussions – maids, Luisa, tiburoncitas] Tere thought bubbles some more about the money going to his children and then thinks at least Paloma’s child won’t be a problem (que mala). Arturo continues and says he wants to make sure his children aren’t left unprotected. Fer should know, considering everything he’s gone through to recoup his inheritance. Fer agrees, saying his mother has suffered so many years because of it. But what about Teresa? She’s his wife, shouldn’t she be protected as well? Teresa, still listening intently, thought bubbles thanks to Fernando. Arturo answers that he’s giving his wife her inheritance (patrimonio) during his lifetime as it should be and she will execute the inheritance of their children. He plans to leave something for Luisa but the majority will be for his children. Fer asks about their plans to start a family. Arturo shares his recent discussions with Teresa about waiting a while. Fer is in total agreement with Teresa about enjoying themselves a bit before starting a family. Tere’s happy to hear she and Fer think alike – too bad she didn’t meet him before Arturo.

Casa Grumps (combo scenes): Pati calls Johnny with the news of Granpa’s threat to send her to a boarding house. He’s busy with deliveries but he’ll be there asap. Later, Griselda is giving Pati a pill that Pati pretends to take. Granpa comes back in, Pati’s nervous, and they go back and forth again about her coming of age, his reluctance to allow her to have a boyfriend, much less that muerto de hambre (dying of hunger) mechanic Johnny. Pati corrects him, saying he’s now a taxista. Granpa feigns amazement then says he doesn’t care what he is, he has no place in her life. As they’re arguing, they hear whistling from outside. It’s Johnny, of course and Granpa goes to investigate. We go through a Laurel and Hardy routine with Johnny, Cutberto, and a ladder while Granpa searches for them but doesn’t see them. He goes back upstairs threatens Pati again if she should be caught with Johnny, etc. etc. Then he threatens to fire Gris if he finds out she’s been helping the lovebirds. Johnny and Cutberto decide to leave their plan for another day and saints preserve us, we go through a chipmunk moment a la TdA (I shudder).

Casa de la Barrera: Tere joins the men downstairs just as Fernando is leaving. She turns to Arturo apologizing for being so selfish last night. It’s just that after so many years of holding back her only thought now was to keep him to herself. She wanted to give them a short time to enjoy themselves as a couple. However, she’s going to see the ob/gyn to make sure everything’s ok so she can hurry up and give him that child he wants so much. Poor sap, he’s so happy and asks if she’s serious. She’s very serious. After all, they can have their time alone once the children are grown. Now it’s his turn to say he was selfish. He’s changed his mind and now thinks it’s best to wait a bit before children.

Hospital: Magda, Daryo, and Mariano are talking about his presentation to possible new investors. He’s very nervous. Talk turns to his obsession with Teresa. He sets them straight that he is no longer interested in her. Magda is happy to hear that saying there are many women who would be happy to be with him. She almost includes herself in this group but catches herself in time.

Elsewhere, Martin is telling Aurora he needs to travel to Cuernavaca on restaurant related business and suggests she come with him. She suggests they make it a one day trip. He really wants to spend the weekend with her, asking about her house or they could spend it at a hotel whatever she prefers. Aida walks in just then (she’s here, she’s there, she’s everywhere!) and teases them about taking a trip together. Aurora asks if she’d like to join them – pleading her with her eyes. Aida declines saying she’s come looking for Mariano.

Juana’s apt: Espe tells Juana she’s decided not to go back to Ruben. Juana thinks all men are jerks. Talk turns to Hector the Director. Juana was worried he was asking for a more formal commitment. Espe wonders how they get along since he’s so serious and Juana’s so happy-go-lucky. They talk about Cutberto’s new GF and how he’ll be happy with lots of children. Espe thinks Juana could be like a second mother to Aurora much like she’s been for Teresa.

Fancy Restaurant: Mariano and Aida arrive and he’s carrying a garment bag and looks muy guapo in his suit and tie. Mariano wonders why she hadn’t told him her friend owns a clothing factory. She talks about the friend’s success story saying he started from nothing. Mariano wonders if he’ll achieve everything he’s ever dreamed of but knows he is dedicating his life to his passion: medicine. She tells him there is another passion he shouldn’t leave behind then pulls him by his tie and plants one on him. Mariano tells her he likes her and has a good time with her but Paulo’s death is still fresh in her mind and she knows what he’s been through with Teresa. It’s too soon for commitments. She’s not asking for commitments and just wants to have a good time with him when they’re together. Now go ahead and kiss me, bobo! He complies and she leaves so he can wait for his meeting.

Patetica Paloma’s (combo scenes): The Weird Sisters, Aida, Paloma, and Geno sit around sipping tea talking about Paulo. Aida tries to lighten things up by asking about Arturo (really?). She tells them about Arturo’s threat to ban her from his hawtness should she continue to disrespect his wife. Geno wonders what witchcraft Teresa uses to control these men? (speaking of witches, Geno’s do is downright frightful). Aida tells her to keep on keepin on but Paloma doesn’t want to run the risk of not being able to see him again (please, so pathetic) Aida wonders if anything happened between them since they ran into each other again. Paloma tells them of the kiss they shared before the wedding when ArTeresa were in the middle of a tiff. Then she asks that they keep this to themselves. Of course, Aida replies. It just wouldn’t do for Teresa to find out and besides that would impede Paloma’s ability to continue to try to get closer to Art. Geno chimes in saying, he asked her not to bother Teresa but he didn’t say anything about coming on to him. They agree the kiss indicates he still may feel something for her. Where there’s smoke there’s fire, or as Geno put it “Donde hubo fuego quedan cenisas” (Ashes remain where there was once a fire)

Mariano’s meeting: He’s at his table with the banker Eduardo when “Arteresa” walk up and greet Eduardo. Apparently he and Arturo know each other quite well. Introductions all around. Mariano is the perfect gentleman and asks how the newlyweds are doing. Eduardo catches on they know each other and Mariano responds, “very well, yes”. Arteresa depart and he gives Mariano a venomous look as they pass him. Mariano is up front with Eduardo telling him about attempting to steal the bride away from the wedding. Eduardo is somewhat impressed, saying if he’s capable of doing that then he’s just as crazy as he is. Mariano has no idea the crazy things (locuras) he’s done in the name of love. He raises his glass in a toast to mujeres hermosas.

Restaurant: Arturo is pissed! Teresa suggests they leave. He refuses, saying if anyone should leave it should be HIM. She reaches over to kiss him as Mariano watches. When they part, they both look over at Mariano.

Casa Geno: Mayra is arguing with Geno saying she’s her best friend and as such should take her side against Ruben. Geno already told her to divorce him but she refuses because she loves him. Either divorce him or be rid of him. But if she takes him back, she needs to do it full on, in terms of love, confidence and business. Mayra’s thought about it but thinks if he lets her down again, she’ll never get over it. Not again.

Restaurant: Mariano is conducting his presentation on his fancy shmancy tablet while we hear Teresa suggesting Arturo take her to his firm and introduce her as his partner and also tell her what her role is. They talk about getting to know the clients, the business. She wants to work together so they can finish earlier, giving them more time together. They kiss and Mariano doesn’t miss this one either. He’s upset by it but keeps his cool.

Vecindad: Night has fallen as Mariano arrives at his apartment. He gets a call from Aida and he tells her the meeting was a success. He agrees a celebration is in order and agrees to meet her at his apartment. At the Chavez household, Teresa excitedly tells her parents about Arturo introducing her at his firm. Refugio of course is not so excited, telling her the partnership was a gift from her husband. True, she’s a lawyer. But she doesn’t have the experience necessary to be a partner in a firm. OUCH! She says she’s not criticizing only suggesting she work hard to help her husband and not let him down. Teresa exclaims exasperatingly that’s precisely what she plans to do. The first thing she’s going to do is recommend a raise for Daddykins, which isn’t met with overwhelming approval from either parent. Negative Nellie mentions the job was given to him even though he had no idea what he was doing. Armando agrees and asks that she hold off increasing his wages until he’s earned it. Teresa accuses him of caving in to Refugio’s criticism. Armando feels Refugio does it out of dignity. Teresa says this isn’t dignity, it’s stupidity! Mommy shoots right back, “I may be stupid but I can go through life with my head held high. I’m not ashamed of anything. I’m not sure you can say the same.” Tiburoncita is not pleased. Tere and Refugio are in a stare down.

Casa Caceres: Ruben arrives as Aida is getting ready to leave and she tells him she’s going to see Mariano. When he protests that she may be doing this just to get back at him, she corrects him saying they have a great time together. Besides, by going to that filthy vecindad she can assure herself he’s staying away from that mugrosa gata (filthy cat) he got involved with. She likes Mariano very much. With the way things are at home, thanks to Daddy, the only thing that makes her happy is Mariano. She leaves him, sarcastingly calling him Papito tan lindo under her breath.

Casa Chavez: Refugio and Armando are now alone and she’s happy he followed her lead in doing the right thing. He doesn’t understand her; it only resulted in her arguing with Teresa. She reminds him Teresa’s no longer a little girl. She’s a grown woman and needs to start acting as such.

Casa Mariano: Uh-oh trouble’s come a-knockin’! Teresa’s come to Mariano’s apt. She’s just come by to find out how his meeting was with the banker. He tells her it went very well, resulting in a big donation. And here she thought the clinics wouldn’t do well and yet they’ve done much better than expected. She tells him that despite what he may think, she’s happy for his success. It’s what she’s always wanted. He says it’s too bad that now that he makes a good living and has his own practice, she isn’t able to enjoy it with him. She tells him she’s hurt by what he said the other day, that he’s no longer interested in her, has forgotten her. He agrees she’s a very beautiful woman and he’ll always like her. She tells him what they have between them is very strong. He goes in for a kiss, agreeing that what they have is stronger than anything. He closes the door when she says others may see them. Then the fool tells her that even though she’s married, she’s still his. Their theme reaches a crescendo and we end for the week. Ay, ay, ay!!!!!

LOL, with the title. I was just at Babies 'r' Us this week. I'll be checking to see when Tere is registered since she's in a big hurry to have a bebe now.

In the previews, Tere and Mariano are on his couch again and it looks like Art is coming through the vencidad like a raging bull.

Thanks for your always entertaining recaps, Paquita,
and this one's up so soon as well.

GinCA

Thanks Paquita - Your recap was more fun then the episode. Just a lot of talk and maneuvering last night until that last five minutes - then we all got to watch Mariano go brain dead.

Man I was disappointed in him.And it just feeds Tere's stupid idea of walking off with him into the sunset some day.

Do love the surprise about the will though. Our poor little Toxic darling needs a bambino fast so she can get her hands on the green stuff. She still acts like Art is going to kick the bucket soon - only problem with having someone younger, gorgeous and in great shape play the part - it's just not believable that she still think she'sll inherit big bucks and still have time to ramp with Mariano ( and I'm thinker sooner rather than later). Ah well.

Teresa's not going to get pregnant. I need for Oscar the Unfriendly Ghost to explain that to her.

If this is really happening and not Mariano's fantasy, can't feel sorry for him for whatever happens. I hope Aida busts him.

Refusio................WHOA.

I would not put it past our Tiburoncita to attempt to conceive Mariano's baby, but I think she will do something else instead. I see her getting Norplant or something like it that guarantees at least 5 years of contraception without daily maintenance.

Now that Aurora's mother has been given a name, we can expect to eventually meet her. This should be quite explosive.

Paloma needs to get a life, preferably away from Mexico City. But we'll be saying that until she does... or gives up the ghost.

At the rate he's going, Gramps may try to force Pati into a convent. Is that still done these days?

You'd think that Fernando would consider what fooling around with Tiburoncita would do to his friendship with Arturo.

Arturo's assertion that most of his dinero will go to his hijos is smart and he oesn't even realize it. However, does anyone else think Teresa might try to accelerate his departure from this mortal coil after becoming embarazada via Mariano? This would make so much more sense if Arturo were played by Eric del Castillo instead.

Frances, great recap! I especially liked "she's here, she's there, she's everywhere" and Gooooooo MORNING  VECINDAD, a shout out to Good Morning Vietnam. Thanks for your quick and well done recap.

What is wrong with our Espe? Instead of paying attention to what Hector might want, she babbles on about herself. News flash to Espe, he likes you, open your eyes! Honestly, she's beginning to get on my nerves a bit.

Speaking about babbling, like a broken record, I've said too much about Refugio, I'll keep my thoughts about her (mean!) behavior to myself this time!

Deeper and deeper our little shark dives. Surely Mariano won't  go all the way down with her. If he does, we will have to root for Martin to really win Aurora's heart.

Just a note, just because you are successful at raising money (donations) doesn't mean that you personally have money!

Are there any potentially happy relationships in this novela? Every couple will have a silent asterisk by their name at the end!

Frances- Another stellar recap!

Babies were on everyone's brain last night. Tere's nightmare and the look of fear on her face in bed were hilarious. I don't think she intends to get pregnant by anyone any time soon. I see her finding a way to change the will before trying to get preggers.

As for Mariano, I think we are underestimating him. The look on his face when he started kissing Tere was not one of helpless submission. It was of domination. I think he fully plans to get her motor started, and then dump her cold when Aida shows up for them to go out.

And Aurora is super nervous about possibly doing the deed with Martin on their weekend away. I'm sure he wouldn't pressure her though if she says she's not ready. He too nice of a guy to push sex.

Speaking of nice guys, my heart was breaking for Hernan last night. Poor guy. Can't Espe see the way he looks at her?!

Bring on Vanessa! I'm ready to meet this heartless woman who left sweet Hector and Aurora.

Vanessa sounds like she could be Tiburoncita Sr.

Paquita, this is a great recap. I was reading it a work, and a coworker came and was reading it over my shoulder. This is great she said, what is it? I told her it was my daily recap, and now she wants to watch the show and read the recaps the next day, too. Your funny quips really make it.
Of course, I shouldn't be reading this at work.
I swear, this town is really too small, isn't it? Everyone keeps running into everyone else. Is there only one restaurant in town?

Someone remind me, what was the real scoop on Paloma's child? Was the child born dead, or died as a toddler? Is there a chance the kid will show up?-Surprise a miracle! It seems to happen a lot on TNs.

Because in the long-lost relative department, you already have to quess that Aurora's mom is going to show up and want Hector back.

I think Tere's body would reject a child.

Emarie- I'm guilty most days of reading the recaps and comments when at work. :)

Paloma was told that the baby died after she gave birth. Knowing how much her father wanted her to have nothing to do with Art, it would NOT be a surprise if he sent the baby off to an orphanage to to live with another family and lied to Paloma. So I say we can be on the lookout for a teenage little Art, and the long gone Vanessa to show up before this thing wraps up.

Tere has not really thought out how she is going to fleece Art for ALL that he has. It's not like he's as old as the guy Anna Nicole Smith married and about to kick the bucket any day. I don't see her as a murderer (at least not yet). The best she can hope for is a nice divorce settlement. Of course she would get more in a divorce settlement if she had a kid...

Paquita, thanks for the fun recap.

I sure hope Mariano's plan is just to get Teresa's motor running and then toss her out instead of bedding her, just to show he's over her (which, of course, he is not). But either way, he's got to go a long way to be right for Aurora.

I don't think Teresa will get pregnant. Surely she doesn't think Arturo is such a tonto that he wouldn't notice the baby looks like Mariano. On the other hand, it would be a hoot to see Teresa wearing ultra-sexy maternity clothes.

Oh no Mariano what an idiot is he trying to sex up Teresa a married woman!!!

After she slapped him in the church and declared to the whole world that she LOVES Arturo after she promised him they would escape together that very day and now this fool possibly is still in love with her?

Unless he wants to just tease her and leave her hanging all hot and bothered that could be fun if he just works her, works her and right before she's ready to go he just says "oh you know what no I'm sorry I can't do this, this is wrong te vas a tener que quedar con las ganas!!! Cause you ain't never having this AGAIN (as he points down with both index fingers you know where)Lol but we all know that ain't happening.

If they do get frisky as the previews indicate
It better be meaningless sex as far as Mariano is concerned and not have him being in love again like a moron.
(Although totally unfair to poor Art)

There is a great song a bit vulgar called "tooted and booted" I hope that's Marianos game plan here if they do it here are some lyrics of tooted and booted

she thinks I'm cute she wants to have sex so I tooted from the left and I tooted from the right (I made her feel stupid) we can do it all day but only for one night but after that you gotta GO cause you ain't my WIFE lol

If Mariano uses Teresa sexually that's just more drama and madness I'm disappointed in him if he does go that route not trying to be negative but last night over all was a bit of a snooze fest and looks to be slowing down a bit.

Tooted (have sex)

Booted (tossed someone out of you house)

Hence tooted and booted lol these clever sinful ass songs of todays young people.

Great recap. Amen to the oh no about the chipmunk crap oozing over from TdA and infecting our show. They'd better put a stop to that NOW.

I too am thinking that reports of Paloma's baby's death have been greatly exaggerated. Can you really make a will leaving your money to people who don't exist (yet, or ever)? If Art were to kick the bucket now, who would get the money? Would it just be divided amongst the other heirs by percentages, or would it just lead to a long court battle, which Art claims to be smartly avoiding by having a will?

To me, Mariano looked more calculating than impassioned, and I hope that he really is just mocking Teresa and not falling for her dubious charms again. He knows Aida is on her way over. Of course, Arturo may interrupt them before we find out how he planned to end the snoozle session.

Poor Hernán. He needs to give Esperanza a few more clues, I think. If she could fall in love with Rude Ruben, surely she can fall in love with Hernán el Galán.

Mariano seemed very upset or annoyed when Teresa was kissing Arturo in the restaurant, he was really clinching his jaw. I think a kinda Hatfield and McCoy love rivalry has overtaken the sensibilities  both Arturo and Mariano, and neither one is using his brain anymore. Both guys know better, but can't stop themselves from making ridiculous  mistakes.   Mariano will lose everything with another scandal and here he goes kissing Teresa in the vecindad with Aida on the way and Refugio just steps away.  Whether it is love, rivalry, power, revenge or lust, it is a big mistake.

I hope we see Paloma's teenage "baby". She IS pathetic, and now she's taking advice from Geno, but she isn't a selfish liar, she just made a terrible mistake. I think she could make herself happy with just a baby from the deal.

Excellent recap Frances. Mariano is a bigger fool than I thought. Even with Teresa now married and he almost losing donors because of the scene he made at her wedding, he's still kissing on her and pulling her over toward couch for another round. Neither he or Teresa should test Arturo. He could ruin them both if he wanted to.

I wonder will Arturo bust Teresa coming from Mariano's. If so, she will have some splaining to do.

It seems Pathetic Paloma is going to try to tempt Arturo too using the stolen kiss as her example. She really needs to get a life.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall Paloma saying that she never actually saw the baby. That's a setup for finding a teen who looks like Arturo.

Estate law vis a vis leaving assets to an unborn or hypothetical child probably varies all over the place. I'm sure most US lawyers wouldn't advise doing this just in case the client ends up not having children at all through no fault of his/her own.

The other day there was a Law & Order episode where the killer was the illegitimate daughter of the victim and an extremely wealthy man who had recently died of cancer. His will left his estate to be equally divided among "my children" without listing their names. Had there not have been a murder the illegitimate daughter would have gotten to claim $17.5MM due to the vague wording of the will.

As for whether Teresa could get a big settlement if she had a child, I know that in at least some parts of the US a divorced father can get out of paying alimony although he can't escape child support. I know someone who has a story.

Great recap Frances.

Mariano dissapoints me, whatever his reasons for kissing Teresa it is obvious to me he is not deserving of Aurora. I know everybody here wants them together but I constantly find Martín to be the bettey guy.

My grandfather on my mother's side did what Arturo is planning to do. He reparted his belongings to his children and he named my grandmother the "albacea". My grandma had a right to hold onto everything even after my mom and her sibilings were older but she decided to give them all their inheritance when they asked for it and she is currently only keeping the house where she lives in (which belongs to my mother according to grandpa's will) and another house she rents that belongs to three of their kids. Obviously all of my uncles and mom can ask for their properties according to the law now that they are older but nobody will do since she lives confortably with that. Grandpa expected his kids to help my grandmother when she got old and they had a business together that she kept once he died.

Jarocha

Jarocha: that is interesting, and if the custom holds in the TN like this, that is probably why Tere is in such a hurry to have a baby.

Jarocha
It is great having you on this board. I appreciate your comments because you clarify things that we wouldn't know about in the US.
Please point out some of those wild dichos that I know are flying over my head.

Teresa told Paloma that Arturo is more to her than money, she said he is everything to her. That comment plus the one she made to Arturo after the “nightmare”. That she would die without him were both said without forthought on her part. So to me Arturo must becoming more to her than she had originally intended.

I agree that the TN seems to have slowed up. Kinda boring lately. I even had to FF Aurora lamenting over her mother again. Okay Aurora, we got it, new topic please!
And my goodness is ANYone watching Johnny scenes? To me his scenes are an entire waste of airtime. Does anyone even know the point of Paty? Griselda I can see, but she could have been anyones maid in order to meet Cutberto and play the thorn in Juana's side.

I hope the story picks up.
By the way, I think it will be Aida interrupting Mar/Ter. Thats what will prompt the discussion with Palo & Maida about getting Art to catch Mar/Ter together.

Frances: Love your style and wit! Thanks for a great weekend read!
Pathetic Paloma is right! She has a poor choice of friends and just doesn't know it yet. Frightful hairstyle on Gen was just what I was thinking, myself.... and frightful three blonde witchy bitchy sisters. All they were missing was the cauldron and the chant: "fire burn and cauldron bubble....."
===================
Great comments from you all, too, and I am now ready to admit I'm soooo disappointed in Tere's maven behavin'. Course, Refugio is the conscience of this motley crew and we all know how popular a conscience is..... it's there to kick you in the backside and who the heck ever likes that? She'll forever cause me to wince.

I don't see this as any sort of snooze fest because you can see how things will lead to the next crisis. I can feel the tension in every scene.
========================

Jarocha: You're personal life stories really add to the cultural education we get here. Thanks for always being ready and willing to clarify things like you do! It would not be the same here otherwise.
==============
Maybe I'm wrong, but IMO Mariano can't get Tere out of his blood no matter how much as he tries. I see them as star-crossed lovers, to their detriment. He's well aware his future is doomed if he causes another public scandal. So his seduction in his apartment at the close of the episodio is just as dangerous for him as for Tere. Not to say that Art doesn't have a right to be jealous, either, but this guy is just obsessed. He has no reason to demand a kid from Tere just like that except to inflate his ego and to assuage that jealous twinge of his. He had one with PatPal and so he must think he can get to the same emotional level with Tere, wife #2 by recreating the situation. Fer was right--he's never reconciled his lusting over PatPal.

ITA also with the fact that it would make more sense if we had Erik del Castillo (an old guy like in the original version) playing the prof. when discussing the cash cow and the will situation he represents. Half of the sexual tension tho' would be lost in this version, tho.....

Catching up on a beautiful Sunday morning while watching my Rafa at the French Open. (Crossing fingers).
Love everyone's comments, and Vivi, what a great point about Mariano. Boy, I sure hope you're right-that he just may be jerking Toxic T's chain.

As for the inheritance stuff - In most states of the US, for wills in the case of what Art is planning, if there should be no offspring, usually the dollars will be then divided to the remaining heirs listed if the person does not state "in case of no children blah blah blah". The fact he would name Tere the Executor would make her inelligible to receive any dollars. (Most states won't allow someone inheriting to also manage the estate - Banks or lawyers are usually recommended.)Not sure how Mexico works, but if it's anything like most states in the US, she winds up with nothing in any case.

Totally forgot about the possibility of the A/P spawn being alive. Now I remember us mentioning that in a very early blog. So there's your possible heir - just need them to surface. (Is Pathetic's father alive? Would he be hiding said spawn?)

As soon as we see some strange pre-teen surface in this plot somewhere, we'll know who it is. (I'm betting one of Mariano's clinics - just a thought.) So that makes two mysterious people to be on the lookout for...

Ok so I know this is not the right place to talk about the French Open but Daisy YESSSS!!!!

Rafa did it heck yeah COME ON!!!

Roger was playing spectacular in his semi against Djoko and was pretty much playing and serving that way lights out in the first set and looked as confident as ever at RG but our boy Rafa still came back JUST BEAUTIFUL.

Ok on to Teresa I thought fridays episode was very slow endless scenes of grumps,Johnny Patty Cutberto and Juana and same old Aurora and the mother that abandoned her been there done that.

Hopping it gets better I was actually shocked that I found TdA's friday episode much more exciting that Teresas but of course it was the big "I finally found my daughter and its Maria D" episode.lol

Wonderful recap Paquita i loved it and thank you.

You've got to hand it to Teresa she just changes her agenda on the fly so she can get what she wants. Is she starting to have real feelings for Arturo?

I was laughing too when i saw the three witches together conspiring against Teresa and i thought of Macbeth.

I love how Mariano is not allowing psycho Aida to torment Espe.

Poor Aurora she is trying but still not into Martin.

Mariano you're still not worthy of Aurora the way he was getting upset seeing Teresa with Arturo tells me that. I didn't pick up that he was using Teresa to get back at her but i have to watch that scene again.

I also think it's Aida interrupting them as she was going over there to celebrate with Mariano. When they showed Arturo going over there angry again it looked like it was in the day time.

I'm enjoying each episode of this after watching TDA it doesn't seem like it is slowing down for me because as someone mentioned even if it looks like nothing is really happening they are setting up how the plot is going to move along very nicely.

I’m OK with the speed of this novela, we’d all be cardiac patients visiting el dispensario, (I’d get guest resident physician Magda) if the writers kept up the speed of the wedding and reception happenings. It is good lean back in your chair and relax for a couple of episodes.

OK, for those of us not watching TdA, what does the chipmunk reference mean?

Will our Mariano ever get well enough for our saint-in-resident Aurora? I’m beginning to wonder!

SandyTN: Mejia, who is the producer of TDA, usually takes a supposedly comic scene in his tn's and speeds it up to chipmunk pace. We're suppose to think that's smart, and creatively funny. IMHO it's idiotic and it is like hearing fingernails on a blackboard for me. >: ? (

Daisynjay- Paloma's dad is dead. That's why she finally worked up the courage to come back to Mexico and find Art. I am assuming her mother is still alive. So if her parents did hide the child, then her mother would be the one to know. Also, the kid would likely be in Europe, as that's where they went after the cancelled wedding and where Pal had her baby, and not in a Mexican vecinidad. But, you never know what plot twists will come along.

I also don't mind the pace of the last couple of episodes. Things need time to build up. If all of a sudden in tomorrow's episode Teresa and Fernando were running off together, that would make no sense. There needs to be some story and character development to get us to the next exciting stage. For example, all of the stuff that went down at the wedding and reception made TOTAL sense because of everything that happened in the first 50 episodes. I enjoy TDA (much of the time) too, but I have to say that many of the things the characters say and do make NO sense whatsoever. It's like the writers just pulled some dialogue and scenarios out of a hat each day and at that moment decide which characters will say or do what they pulled. Yes, the send episode on Friday had some exciting moments because of the two big reveals (I fast forwarded through almost everything but those two scenes).

*the second episode on Friday... (sorry to the typo)

Hey, ViviDC: Just wanted to give a special shout out and say thanks for helping post for me and the others all this time! I enjoyed reading your comments during this tn because they're always insightful and generally bring up points I haven't thought of, or had opined completely 180 degrees opposite from you! That always makes for a great blog discussion!

Martin doesn't float my boat any more than he does Aurora's. IMHO it seems pushy to even suggest a weekend together if they haven't done the deed yet because unless it's different in Mexico, I always thought that was the implication of two singles of the opposite sex spending a weekend together away from home. I kept thinking he should have gotten the hint when she seemed so reticent about the suggestion. Maybe though, since I'm so much older new social norms exist that I've lost site of in the age gap. Bummer!

Julia: I don't want to forget to say thanks for volunteering to sub this coming Wed. I've never read your recaps before and look forward to this one!

Not a problem at all Jardinera. I stay up late and am up early each day anyway, so it's easy to post. Glad you're back home safely. :)

Thanks Vivi for clearing up the matter on the Pathetic's parents and where the bambino might have grown up. Will be interesting on the how and why when the little darling shows up. (And we know he'll show up.) Hey maybe he'll show up with Vanessa...on these shows anything is possible.

Anon 3:23 - Wasn't that a great match?!!! Loved it,loved it.

Martin......I have to give him credit, unlike a lot of men, he is a good listener. (ha) He is smart and thoughtful too.  Could it be his out of date mock turtleneck and pixie hair cut that is a bit unappealing?  He doesn't "float my boat" either. I was thinking that the writers might have purposely made Martin less dynamic than Mariano so the viewers would focus on Mari for Aurora and not veer off on the Martin path.

Concerning Martin, I think the actor was cast as a character that is not as dynamic as Mariano. So we will see the contrast in novios for Aurora. It also explains Aurora's hesitance to "go for" Martin. He is just so "blah" compared to Mariano.

About the weekend trip. I think it signifies that is time their relationship goes physical. It seems that the pairs don't hook up for the first time on their home turf. ie Paulo and Aida were in Acapulco. Mariano and Teresa were in Cuernavaca. Also, do we know for a fact that Mar was Teresa's first? Because the story she's telling Art and Luisa about Paulo being first got me thinking maybe he was. So she isnt lying to Arturo, just concealing the truth about Mariano.

Diann

Diann/SandyTN: Good points about "meh- Martin" being cast that way. I don't think Paulo ever got to mmmm.....second base with Tere. I think Mariano was her first and she covered the truth with an unprovable lie.

Diann- Tere did not do the deed with Paulo- a source of frustration for him. She was waiting to get a ring on her finger and a wedding, just like she did with Art. She didn't love Paulo. He was just a means to an end. She only decided to have sex with Mariano after Espe spoke about how wonderful making love to the man you truly love is.

She clearly didn't think she could pull off/want to pass herself off as a virgin to Art, but she sure as heck didn't want to let him know she and Mariano were that serious. Paulo makes total sense since Art knows he and Tere dated in the last two years of high school, AND, as Jardinera pointed out, he's dead and there's no way to disprove her lie.

The only way to disprove it would be if Mariano knew Teresa was a virgin when he had her. Which perpetuates another novela stereotype: That Guys Can Tell.

Don't even get me started on the the corollary, That Chicks Always Dig Their First Time.

ViviDC: Thanks for those details. I thought so, but I couldn't be sure after all this time. You've got a mind like steel trap, amiga!

==============
UrbanA: "Don't even get me started on the the corollary, That Chicks Always Dig Their First Time." LOL! ITSA

Ha! They always do (in telenovelas), even if it's in a 2-seater convertible, or in a chilly lake in broad daylight with a guy who's just been shot, or on the floor of a barn. The galáns are just THAT good.

LOL Julia! Indeed. The bale of hay in STUD looked particularly challenging. The underwater coupling in Sortilegio (although not their first time) takes the cake for MOST challenging lovemaking location. The protagonists had to be mer-people to pull that off.

There was one novela in Azteca, with Silvia Navarro and Juan Manuel Bernal, where both characteres were virgins and their first time was awkward. I think they even bumped their foreheads or something. And on another time both of their mothers caught them having sex when they had already gotten the handle on it, so that was even more awkward.

Jarocha

Can anyone recall an incident of a mother catching them in the act on the first time? That's enough trauma to last at least until the middle episode!

Another novela *first time* from La Mentira, on the roots of a giant tree......

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt0AVhYb4lQ&feature=related

......at about 4:10 minutes in!!! Watch the sound if at work!!!

Sandy- Ouch! I wonder if they will recreate that scene in the current remake Cuando Me Enamoro?

Urban and Jarocha- That would scar any young person for life!

i have just been giggling all over the place with this great recap and all these fab comments. PatPal! I can't even remember now who came up with that one, but it is perfect. I thought she couldn't get any more pathetic after begging Arturo, but she succeeded in her chat with Aida and Geno. Ay.
I have this theory that Mariano's pompadour is a direct reflection of his mood (the higher, the better), so i am curious to see if it perks back up after a little couch action. though, as many of you are guessing, they will probably be Aida-interrupted. Not sure what frustration will do to the 'do'. (FWIW, i don't see him planning much with the seduction, i think they're just still really hot for each other)

I would put that version of La Mentira in my top three novelas with Alborada and Amor Real. In fact, watching it using YouTube is perfect and might be really good beach (wifi laptop) reading. If you want to get an idea of how good the novela is just watch capitula 38 part 1 and 2. Demetrio, Guy Ecker has married Veronica, Kate del Castillo, for vengeance not love. I'm sure CME is the same theme, but I'm not watching the newer version so don't know how it compares.

Sandy: That version of La Mentira was made by one of the best producers of Telenovelas ever: Carlos Sotomayor.

All of his most popular novelas are getting remade and Carlos Moreno seems to want them all (unfortunately he doesn't compare).

He remade Cadenas de Amargura a couple of years ago with En el Nombre del Amor.

He remade La Mentira with Cuando Me Enamoro.

He is planning to remake La Jaula de Oro right now.

I wonder how is it that Moreno gets all the Sotomayor hits.

Jarocha

And just for the record: I really do like the actors Moreno picks for the most part.

In ENDA: Lety Calderón was great in a role that made Diana Bracho a huge star, Alison Lozz stood her own ground even if she wasn't as strong as Daniela Castro, Altair Jarabo was engaging in the same role as Cynthia Klitbo. The only issues I had where with Sebastián Zurita and Victoria Ruffo, he was too green and she's no Delia Casanova (who was just fantastic in this role).

In CME: I love Silvia Navarro, always have, and she fits this role with strenght like Kate del Castillo did. Juan Soler is okay but I dislike Jerónimo just like I disliked Demetrio. Jessica Coch I could take or leave, she's not awful but she's not great, I prefer Karla Álvarez. There's Rocío Banquells, I suppose she's meant to be the character played by Rosa María Bianchi but they aren't really comparable because it's just a different character altogether.

Anyway, good leads are chosen at least, it's the production I have a problem with. If I had to choose between rewatching the old versions or the new ones I'd pick the older ones in a heartbeat, that's the problem.

Jarocha

Jarocha, yes, I saw that Carlos Sotomayor was the producer. Just looking I see that he was born in 1956, is he retired now?

If you haven't seen La Mentira, save it for a rainy/snowy season YouTube treat. I started to buy the CD but reading online reviews, the shortened version was panned. According to those who bought it, the main problem was that the music was removed and that was a shame because the beautiful theme was by Vicente Fernandez.

Sandy: He was credited as co-producer of Eva Luna for Univision but that one was really Peter Tinoco's novela. I think he was more of a consultant though. I think he produced a webnovela with Kate and Guy a couple of years ago.

But he is one of the producers that left Televisa once Emilio Azcárraga Melmo died.

Jarocha

Jarocha, in ENDA is was rooting for Inaki to return from the dead rather than for the heroine to find true love with Sebastian Zurita's dumb character. However, I think Sebastian is a better actor now with time. I still miss charismatic Inaki.

GinCA

GinCA: Yes, the actor who played Iñaki was very charming. z Zurita needed more experience before landing a leading role and the writing didn't help since they added many new episodes and to fill them they made him do stupid things like getting married to Altair Jarabo's character.

One fact that they changed that I hated was that he fell for Paloma while Iñaki was alive and in Cadenas the leads fell for each other after he was dead since they became real friends with each other then when they were both grieving. It just left me a bad taste thzat he went after his best friend's almost wife so soon after his death. I guess the idea was to keep him front and center on the story but it just didn't work for me.

Jarocha

I think Univision changed their minds because we're only getting one hour of Teresa and they are showing TDA tonight for one hour.

Yes Jarocha, Paloma and Sebastian's character were smitten from the beginning when he was handing out roses. But Altair's character was more aggressive and possessively claimed him first. Paloma's rebound from Inaki's death was too rapid, I agree, especially when she dropped his photo in the rain and didn't pick it up.

Should have known the novela was extended by the galan's stupid actions.

GinCA

See, in CdA Sofía (the Altair character) simply began dating Gerardo (Zurita's role) first. He barely spoke to Cecilia (Paloma) at the begining because she was very quiet and shy due to her upbringing ans Sofía was the cheerful, extroverted one. Joaquín (Iñaki) noticed Cecilia right away in spite of her introvertedness and fell inlove and it was his impressions of her that made Gerardo realize the sweet person she was. When Joaquín died, Gerardo approached Cecilia as a friend because of his friendship with Joaquín and he became her shoulder to cry on and stood by her through all the hardships she endured afterwards. He fell in love with the person she was and she fell in love with him too but didn't want to date him because of her friendship with Sofía.

It was a simpler story, no mistaken baby, no trial for the priest, no tía turned terminator at the wedding and no switched groom (in fact, there was no third love interest). ENDA was 165 episodes, CdA was only 80. That means they came up with 85 extra episodes thus stupidness entered the equation.

Jarocha

Wow! 80 vs 165. Why do they extend these tns so much these days? Genres should improve with time, not get worse/more cumbersome.

However ENDA, I admit, is one of the novelas I enjoyed the most even at 165 episodes. Of course, much of it was due to Leticia Calderon's performance of crazy jealous tia knocking everyone off..
