Cuando Me Enamoro #150 Friday 11/18/11 Well Helloooooo Priscila
Yikes! Tonight's presentation begins with Augie savoring the events of earlier in the day. Sylvia covered this so well yesterday, and I'm innately lazy so with her permission I'll share with you once more her description of events that tonight's show begins with:
Ez asks Augi to think of his children, his wife. Augi smugly points out Ez should have thought of them. Ez keeps calling Augi desgraciado, as if he is cursing Augi, but Augustin just smiles and says “Adios amigo,” and thankfully the scene ends there. Oh that Augie is a bad bad dog. Next we see a split screen of Ez on the gurney and Aug in his truck, smiling and saying “If you go against me you won’t live to tell the tale.” The bastard drives up to the scene, rushes out and cries a bucket of crocodile tears over the body while Laz cautiously observes. Chema and dad are at the doc’s for a “Check Up” as Ben says in English. Chema wants to make it quick as he is keen to get back to work. Back at the body Augi tearfully demands how could Ez do such a thing? Laz says he knew Ez didn’t want to testify but he never thought this would happen. Augi pretends and exclaims now that Laz mentions it maybe Ez was much more affected than Augi thought. He says Ez had a great fear that the authorities would find out about something in his past, something that might end up putting him in jail. It happened a long time ago, when Ez left the Valle de Guadalupe to look for a better life. But we were kids then, says Laz, it was a very long time ago, 18 years ago at least. Manuela wonders what could he have done that was so bad? Aug says Ez committed robbery while in the U.S. and they put him in jail. When he returned home from serving time he never told them that's what happened to him. The others can’t believe it, more “No puede sers.” (That’s it? That’s the big crime of 18 years ago? Am I missing something?) Augustin is satisfied, believing he has secured his perfidy with a neat little knot of exaggeration. Yet behind him stands Lazaro, giving him a powerful stink eye filled with suspicion.

It's a shame that looks can't kill because if they could, Agustín Dunant, clad in a distnctive white windbreaker, puffy collar curiously flipped up, chin jutting defiantly in a hideous rictus, would already be merrily winging his way to Hell where no doubt a corner room with a balcony view of the gaping maw of an eternal infernal canyon of flames awaits him... but pity... not today.
Meintras tanto, back at Zeke and Alfi's casa, as Luz quietly complains in her crib, Kari is gamely trying to comfort a brave little Panchito who realizes that he will never again see the daddy he loved so much. "No, mi amor, and I know that you'll miss him a lot."
He observes that he'll no longer be able to chat with his dad, but she informs him that is not the case and instructs him as she prayerfully clasps her hands and they practice. He follows her lead as he repeats her words
"Say after me, Corazón: Papito... I know you're OK... May you look after my mamita... my sister... and me... "
They make the sign of the cross.
"Every night talk to him." She concludes as she gives him a long loving hug.
Alfonsina has arrived at the murder scene and is understandably distraught. Zeke is resting in a body bag which strangely enough is unzipped, exposing his oddly peaceful face.
She shrieks that she wants to see him but offers only token resistance as Lazaro and Renata gently restrain her. "¿Por Qué?" she pleads, weeping inconsolably. Manuela begins, but Laz interrupts her and explains what they have just learned from Augie. Jerry admits that Zeke told him about it just the day before. Augie confirms it and adds that being the good guy he is, he trusted Zeke enough to hire him and that in return Zeke was always a loyal and trustworthy employ who never robbed him of a single centavo... Gack... Next!
Alison, clearly a budding young lawyer, instead of flirting with Aníbal, suggests that he assert his hijo rights. "In the US, gringos can sue their parents," she explains. He's not so sure, his expression indicates that actually... he'd rather flirt. "Wouldn't hurt to look into it, you might win a lot."
Back at the crime scene, it occurs to Jerry that some of this could have been his fault for mentioning Zeke during his declaration... Gee... you think? Augie is offended that Jerry mentioned him and Renata intervenes, asking the both of them to respect Alfi's feeling. Well, Alfi says don't mind her, it's obvious that Zeke wasn't the saint that she had imagined after all. He didn't even trust her enough to share his secrets. Carlos suggests that perhaps he didn't want to hurt her but her disposition sours even more as she storms off muttering to herself. I'd love to cut her some slack, what with her husband newly dead and all, but I'm having a difficult time warming to Alfi right now. I preferred her much more as Gardenia in MEPS.
Back at Empresa Monterubio, Matías and Honorario are busy defaming the characters of Roberta and Germán because Matt and Adri spotted them together in the restaurant.. They agree to tattle to Gonzo. "Yeah that's what we'll do."
Too late fellows, Germán is way ahead of you making a preemptive confession to Gonzo himself. Might have been misinterpreted by Matt and Adri, them spotting him and Roberta together in the restaurant and all.
Gonzo, the designated dopey dad is looking even more befuddled than usual as Germán spins a clever web of deceit which leaves Gonzo agreeing that it'd be good for Germán to take Roberta under his protective wing in her inaugural days in a hostile environment. Kinda like another dad doncha know... after all she's about the same age as his son. Gonzo does know that Matías Honorio and Adri have it in for poor little Robi, doesn't he? Poor Gonzo looks like he's really missing his Etch-A-Sketch right about now.
At the center, Regina and Inés discuss Constanza's foray into maternal madness. Inés asks if Regina has fired her as head of operations. Nopis... Regina is "...certain that she do the correct thing." ... um OK... the phone for Nadie se Rinde rings for he first time... woohoo.
Meanwhile, Coni is doing her own version of the correct thing. She is enmeshing herself deeper and deeper into Corina's web offering both moral and financial support. No need to mention it to Regina...
At the clinic, as Chema undergoes a CT of his head (did this remind anyone else of Frankenstein?), it dawns on him, "Hey we already did this!" He smells a rat. The Dr. admits that he hasn't been completely honest. "Make an appointment and I'll tell you the truth."
Say what? Why not just say, "Hey, sorry but you have a fatal brain tumor, don't start watching any new telenovels or opening any new restaurants." ?... Or something to that effect.
Honorio and Matías arrive in Gonzo's office bearing chismes only to discover that Germán has beaten them to the punch. Gonzo tells them that Germán will be Robi's mentor. They wearily and warily agree to go along with this hare-brained plan... for Gonzalo and Regina.
At La Bonita, Manuela presents Alison to Jerry and Nata, as Aníbal, Mati, and Carlos look on. She apologizes to Renata for not informing her that Alison was coming. Everyone is going to prepare for the velorio, but Carlos remembers that he can't join them... he must pick up Priscila at the airport. Renata looks at Jerry as if to say, "WTF is Priscila?" Nobody seems to tell her anything.
Augie pays Melesio for a job cleanly done. He offers him the job as his capataz which has fortutously just opened up. Of course best wait until Zeke's in the ground... wouldn't want to appear unseemly. They both share a hearty laugh at this.
Hell is waiting for the both of you.
Karina offers to help Alfi prepare for the velorio. If not for the kids, Alfonsina wouldn't bother. She remembers Zeke's words to Luz,
"I wish I could cease being who I am and be the man that everyone imagines. Ay my daughter, if you only knew how much I want to disappear."
Alfi feels betrayed.
Augie makes a call to Robi insisting that she tell Renata about Zeke forcing himself on her... hoy mismo. She doesn't see a good reason to be calling her. He tells her to just call and ask about him. "She'll tell you that she's at the velorio for that infeliz." "¿Qué, Ezequiel is dead?" "Sí, and in a few hours, buried." "Agustín, don't tell me that you..." "Of course not... the important thing is that your sister learn that he took advantage of you."
Roberta is not so sure and doesn't really seem very surprised... or alarmed.
Seems to me that Augie may be over-reaching a bit with this ploy.
Roberta leaves to go home for lunch as Matías and Adri agree that they have done what they can about Robi and Germy, they'll just keep an eye on them from here on.
Surprise, surprise, Fina is waiting for Roberta in the parking garage. Dr. Icky has driven her over. She tells Robi that she won't allow her to stray from the fold (redil, a new word for me).

It's been 5 maybe 6 years.

Robi is impressed by Fina's mobility. Fina reminds her of who calls the shots. Right now, she needs money.
Everyone at the velorio is clad in black. The grieving widow is tastefully dressed in skintight black jeans, high topped black boots with impossibly high heels and a dark sweater that reveals a modest amount of cleavage.
Remembering Dr. Nesme's farce of a funeral, she wants a look at the corpse. Laz dutifully pops the lid allowing her full access. She reaches out and discreetly holds a small mirror under Zeke's nostrils (actually I just imagined the mirror). She does feel his cheek and assures herself that he is indeed... muerto.
Antonio arrives as other mourners file in. He has Manuela point out the viuda. He offers a few words of comfort and then moves behind the coffin to intone the Lord's Prayer accompanied by a hunting feminine voice. Jerry and Nata arrives and Alfi repairs to another room. Antonio seems to have that effect on people.
Nata follows her into the bedroom, taking a seat beside her on the bed. She offers her shoulder. Instead of tears, Alfi sheds bitterness and disillusionment. Basically, all men are traitorous scum, and she gives Alvaro and Zeke as prime examples. Nata sees her Alvaro and Zeke and raises with Fina. There are . Then gives her stepdad as an example of a good man. I think this is supposed to be a hang in there pep talk but I find myself yawning so unless there is a request for an exact translation of these platitudes, I'll pass... Next!
Gonzo and Regina are wedding planing. Just family and Izzy and Inés. I presume they're going to forego the vocalist as well. Gonzo wants Germán and Mrs. Germán. Yeah... what could possibly go wrong there?
Roberta briefly joins them. She's home for lunch but first has to get some money for Fina. She neglects to tell them that second part.
Fina waits impatiently outside in the car. She looks on as her clothing is carted out in boxes and dumped unceremoniously into a dolly. Panchita is overheard saying how evil Fina was and what an angel Regina is. Ouch!
Robi stuffs wads of cash in a department store gift box. It's even topped with a bow.
"En el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espiritu Santo." The velorio seems to be winding down... but wait! Heeeeere's Augie!
Wow! Huge garish wreathes straight out of The Godfather.
He approaches the Widow Alfi and inquires, "¿Cómo estás?"
You murdered her husband! How the Hell do you think she is?
He pukes up the following:
"I don't want you to worry about your future, already too much tragedy is happening to you. "
She 's puzzled, "To what are you referring with my future?"
"So you want feel alone, I'm going to help you. I'm going to take care of the education of your two hijos until they finish their studies. Also I want you to know that you will continue receiving Ezequiel's salary as a pensión vitalicia."
"Excuse me what is vitelcia?"
"For life. Every knew that Ezeqiel was my loyal employee and that I loved him. His death affected me profoundly. He was always an irreplaceable person for me."
Jerry takes the opportunity to express doubt.
Renata upbraids him, telling him this is very gracious on Augie's part.
Jerry replys, "If it were gracious, he wouldn't have said it for all the world to hear."
Impervious, Augie continues, "Alfonsina, I can't offer you the position that Ezequiel held because I know that you already hold one at La Bonita, but I want you to know that the doors of my hacienda will always be open for you and your family."
She is grateful as Jerry glowers.
I think I'm gonna be sick.
She rests her head on the coffin as Antonio whispers words of consolation to Panchito.
Robi has the gift box for Fina, telling Regina and Gonzo that it is a gift for Selene she hurries out to deliver it.
What's this? Regina looks suspicious.
Robi delivers the cash to a waiting Fina, but the best part is Panchita sees it and even better... recognizes Fina.

Wow, it's late and I have a wake up alarm in 4 hours so I just want to thank you for a magnificent looking recap with pictures and all. You were absolutely the right person to take us out of the depths of our sorrow and move us upward and onward. Bravo, Carlos, bravo.

Daisynjay, you are spot-on with your comments about Alfonsina. The way she was yowling and running around, completely ignoring her children, was very annoying. Last night clearly showed that Karina will be a wonderful mommy. Her prayer with Ponchito made my eyes tear up.
I'm still seething about Augustin's grand entrance at the velorio. What a jerk, interrupting everything with his hideously huge flower collection, taking center stage to make sure everyone hears about his financial aid to Alfonsina and kids. I know that without bad judgement as a centerpiece we'd all just be watching the science channel and that in Gonzo's case he at least has a reason for his lesion, but every time I see him in his diminished state I hear Ray Bolger in the background singing "If I only had a brain."
Alfi's insisting to see Zeke was kind of humorous - like the guy's been hanging from a tree for several hours and she's not sure he's dead? Once I was working with an ER doc who was asked to declare someone dead. I watched as he carefully listened to the patient's chest in several places, taking his time, and he looked up at me and said, "This is one diagnosis you don't want to f@#$ up."
I see Augie made a quick trip to Churchill Downs to scarf up some used horse wreaths to give to Alfi - or, wait a minute - since he knew when the death would take place, maybe he ordered them in advance.
I don't know if Roberta will be put off by meeting Mrs. Germy. She strikes me as the kind of girl who is will to share her charms with all comers (pun intended).

At "designated dopey dad" I carefully put my coffee aside. "Missing his etch-a-sketch", however caused me to burst into such loud laughter that the cats jumped up and ran away.
I am with you and DaisynJay on Alfie's parenting skills. I am not impressed.The actress is doing a great job showing rage, no doubt. Is Alfie the character creating an emotionally safe environment for her children? Decidedly NOT!
Vivi, I am with you on the evaluation of German's character. Berta may be bad but she is young and at least there is some dim hope for her. German, I see his premtive
strike with dim Gonzo as horribly predatory. Usually, dear Carlos, ITA with you, but here I must respectfully disagree.
The wreaths??? Simply bad taste. Anybody else catch that they were emblazoned with "Cruz de Amor" banners so that everybody was aware of who provided the vulgar display? I wonder if Augustin keeps a stash of those white and gold mourning ribbons handy?

Carlos! Thank you, absolutely wonderful! I could not stand Auggie at the funeral but I did read your account. Your vivid description of the hell that awaits this demon PLUS Julie's recipe for his demise cannot come soon enough. He makes Fernando in FELS look like a deacon! Someone asked yesterday if the plan to accuse Zeke of taking advantage of Roberta would be followed through. . . well, we got our answer! I don't think I've seen a more despicable villian. And Roberta, for her to go along with this lie to defame a dead man. . .I don't know redemption club, she may not deserve "a corner room with a balcony view of the gaping maw of an eternal infernal canyon of flames" but she does deserve some degree of thermal rehabilitation. Sheesh!

Now I see why everyone was so excited for Carlos to do a re-cap! You have quite the wit, Amigo. You had me LOLing at your title.

Really, there was a mass laugh with that Etch-a-Sketch line. It struck all of our funny bones. So did the Chema scene: "Don't start watching any new telenovelas".
For me, the best line was about Gonzo and Regina planning their wedding: "I presume they're going to forego the vocalist". hahaha
And the pictures! I loved them, especially Panchitas funny horrified expression.
Alfi did relish the angry grieving widow role more than caring mother.
Now that Renata had that bonding heart-to-heart with her, will Alfi still be cheering on the demise of Ren/Jero in favor of Tata/Jero?
We did see a tearful Tata in the previews, so I hope you all enjoyed these two days without her sniffles cuz here she comes with her kleenex in hand.

Ah yes, wardrobe. In general, it doesn't seem like the Valle de Guadalupe folks put a lot or time or effort into their clothes. They wear what they feel comfortable in, and that's that. This goes for Augie too. Not sure how Alfie can feel comfortable in those skin tight jeans and high heeled boots, but no one else (except Nesme) seems to notice how sexy this look is. But the fact that she wears pants every day, while all the other country women wear skirts and dresses, says a lot about her high level position in the fields. She has a man's job.
The transplants to the country:
-Carlos- Dresses very much like the natives (comfort above fashion), but working the land was his career of choice.
-Jero is still totally a city boy. Almost always impecable in dress, even when dressed down. I mean, the man wore a tucked-in, button-down shirt, and pressed white pants to go riding! And when he's in the city and in those suits, he's simply divine.
-Maritatas- Well, since she got pregnant, she's started to be a bit more modest about showing off her girls or her gams. With that and all the big jewelry, I'm not sure how she got away with working at a hospital, even in Mexico City!
-Renata: Well, wardrobe always has "fun" with the heroine's clothes, so that she has a signature "look." I will say that in the beginning, when she was 100% a city girl; her clothes were professional and more normal. She started to dress down as soon as she got to the country-- riding pants, jeans, untucked shirts. Things didn't start getting weird until her relationship with Jero started going down the toilet. Perhaps it's a reflection of her inner turmoil? Maybe, once everything gets settled and there's no more drama, her clothes will go back to being normal?
Then again, as someone else pointed out, the shorts with tights, gloves, scarves, furry vests, are actually all in style. I have seen plenty of fashion mags and store displays with this look. It's meant to be bohemian, which fits Nata's personality.

-Renata: Well, wardrobe always has "fun" with the heroine's clothes, so that she has a signature "look." I will say that in the beginning, when she was 100% a city girl; her clothes were professional and more normal. She started to dress down as soon as she got to the country-- riding pants, jeans, untucked shirts. Things didn't start getting weird until her relationship with Jero started going down the toilet. Perhaps it's a reflection of her inner turmoil? Maybe, once everything gets settled and there's no more drama, her clothes will go back to being normal?
Then again, as someone else pointed out, the shorts with tights, gloves, scarves, furry vests, are actually all in style. I have seen plenty of fashion mags and store displays with this look. It's meant to be bohemian, which fits Nata's personality.

I'm looking forward not so much the sparks between Berta and Mrs. German, as how Mr. German is going to juggle them if he wants to keep both his sugar mama and sugar baby. I think the Mrs'll be too smart for his game with his track record.
Same goes for poor Carlos-de-Mati. He isn't as savvy about girls, nor has the espina to ward off Priscilla, the circling shark. Hey girl--go after Augie, he needs a few bites out of him.

Love your analysis Vivi - so spot on with "the divine" on Jero. That man should be a spokesperson for a suit line.
I had a roommate back in the day , make that WAY back in the day, who was a major in theater and design. She use to fixate on assignments that her costumes and sets had to reflect the character of the person to the audience. After living with her for two years, I'm like you and elna, always looking for the hidden meaning of the wardrobe. TN's make it so fun since they sometimes go to extremes. ( Shades of those corsets poor Maite had to wear in Mi Pecado.)

Auggie: constantly in coats or jackets symbolizes his cold-heartedness.
Jero: Love your word "impeccable".Perfect description. Like Gonzo, exudes a sense of calm authority even when dressed casual.Even when he was a jerk, there was a sense he was a good guy at heart.
As for Nata: I think her wardrobe is a way to show her individuality and "young at heart" approach to life. I personally think they took it a step too far with all the shorts and tights but I guess they wanted to make sure she reflected a different style than Berta as they progressed through the story.

Vivi, I haven't really noticed Panchita until the last few days. I thought that poor Fina was going to have a stroke when she saw what was happening to her wardrobe plus having the benefit of hearing her commentary. She probably has earned a spot on Fina's growing to do list.

I flashed back to the scene when Renata encountered Ponchito playing in the winery and his terror of being caught by Augie.

I think that the quiet, intimate wedding will be enlivened by Roberta and the Ibarrolas. No doubt Mrs. I's skank antenna will be fully extended and functional.

Carlos, you never disappoint. You are an elite recapping high jumper; no matter how high the bar, you always clear it and make it look easy. Well, Sylvia, I thought about your color question for a bit and I guess I just am not a deep enough person to come up with an answer like Vivi or EJ would, but let me at least give you my impressions.
Selene in blue - of course we have enjoyed Selene more since her estrangement from Roberta, but she has not been a lovable character. When one thinks of blue they think of the sky and ocean, depth and tranquility, and I just don't see that fitting Selene. One can also think of blue as cold or ice, which is more appropriate, but not really accurate either. So... my conclusion is the wardrobe people looked for a color that went well with Berta's pinks and purples. Pretty simple minded, but makes sense.
Then Shiny Matias - Even though he's been a good sport of late with the whole Chema thing, we can't forget all the bawling he did whenever he didn't get his way. So, I think the shiny material symbolizes a huge tear drop, which is about what I think of him.

For Matias - Hmmm glossy suits and oversized ties (his tie knots are usually rather large) - bit too egotistical, showy and doesn't command quiet command like Jero but is a "in your face" type character? He may be a good guy, but he's still young and trendy--shows learning to do?

Oh Daisy, I love the women's clothes in Mad Men! If I had Betty's little waist I would wear those belted dresses. I love the colors. Some are so over-the-top for today, like Betty's long gold robe that she cooks breakfast in. I think their wardrobe people have done an amazing job.
The men all look like Mormon missionaries (when they aren't drinking and smoking), but that is how it was.
Do you realize the last episode was in 2010, and the next won't be until 2012? How do they expect continuity? I love Mad Men, but find the plot hard to follow.

NovelaMaven- I'm so glad you've been lurking on this one so that we can occassionally get your take on things. This tn plot is complex to be sure, but it's not a circo like so many others with complex plots and lots of characters. I feel like the writers are doing a good job keeping it all together and keeping things fresh and exciting.

Hi Kelly, to be fair, Carlos did try to prepare Matilde for Piscila but gave up after Matilde kept babbling about something inane (did I just say that?). Even if he had been able to, I don't think that he would have given her a real true picture... Pris sort of has to be seen to be appreciated.

Congrats on Baylor's victory.Wow! What a game. We had to delay eating our early Thanksgiving dinner last night until half-time at the Big Game between Cal and Stanford. Alas, DH's alma mater Stanford beat Cal (where 2 of my three children and I matriculated), but at least our guys at Cal showed up and gave them a game.
As to color I love R la O and Daisyn jay's thoughts. Like you I love the Mad Men costumes. The gold Robe! We have laughed about that around here many a time. My kids have threatened to get me one to cover my normal frowsy-tacky but comfortable black velour track suit. I know, you are disappointed in my sartorial choices. So am I.
The colors in the house at Casa Monterubio makes my skill crawl. When I was in grad school (a million years ago) folks were talking a lot about and doing decent research on color theory. It seems like it is a topic that has lost favor and gone into the realm of pop-psych in the last 20 years. That blue-grey color would have been used on manicomio walls back in the day, ostensibly to soothe the crazies.

probably something she put in her contract because the actress looks so beautiful in the color. (Smile.)

As for Coni, I think pink is supposed to symbolize softness, feminism, love. If I remember what roses are supposed to mean, a pink rose is remembrance - utter devotion. I'd say she fits that bill. Plus, though I don't care for the color myself, with her black hair, she rocks the color.

Thanks Emilia, but remember that in reality I am Inez-like. I wore my beanie to the Ute game on Saturday and my daughter's college girlfriends loved it! Of course once I told them it was intended to improve our understanding of telenovela plot lines they quickly turned away. No, that part didn't happen. My daughter had them laughing at David's TelenovelaBeanies.com and the two wedding fiascos (this re-telling from mi hija who doesn't even watch CME!) and we passed around the picture of Panchita (yes, I printed it all out to share with my daughter at half-time).

US!!! (Ultimas Semanas!!!) I'm sad. Question: My first TN was MEPS and I followed the actors: Lu and FC to STuD, then SN to CME so I had breaks in between. How do you guys switch gears going from the ending of one TN straight into the beginning of another? Watching and commenting on a TN for months, then add the intensity of US and the super intensity of a 2 hour final cap, and then the new one starts THE NEXT DAY!!! How do you guys do it?!
Another question--weird, I know. How many TN's have had Laura as the name of the heroine?

Carlos and Sylvia, thank you so much for your excellent recaps. I was once again in a hotel with no Spanish language tv and a slow internet connection, so I really needed my Caray fix. (Oye, Spanish is the second-most spoken language in America. CAN WE GET WITH IT, HOTEL PEOPLE???)

Robey- The only Laura I knew off-hand was the protagonist SN played in Montecristo. A quick Google search also found a 2002 Televisa tn called "La Verdad de Laura." I had never heard of it before.
As for how we go from the end of one tn to the beginning of another so quickly...well, addiction. Pure and simple. Got to have my fix. But I see how it could seem jarring going from the dramatic end of one world, to the dramatic beginning of another. I think that's why I appreciated those cross over ENDA monents they gave us a few weeks back. It made it seem like all these stories are actually happening in the same crazy universe.

Carlos- Have you thought about checking out Una Familia con Suerte? It's a comedy, with many months to go, and Melinama and Julie have been recapping it by themselves. I believe the replacements for both CME and Fuerza will be dramas.
Vivi: Being so immersed in these stories and these people, it's going to be hard for me to suddenly tune them out and get involved with another group of people and stories. I guess it takes practice. I'm going to miss this TN so much (just as I missed MEPS--I own it on DVD because of that). Not so much STuD, but I do miss Lu and FC--though SN is my favorite (of the main stars, that is). Robey--I don't know how the recappers do it either--especially when I don't always know if I'm going to watch something until it's been on for a couple of weeks, and also, life gets in the way.
Like the workings of a combustion engine or a hard drive, I'm just happy it works and that recaps show up on CarayCaray with dogged, unfailing regularity.

I really like that a new telenovela starts up right after the big dramatic ending of the last one. If something I really liked ended and then I had nothing to replace it for weeks, there would be nothing to distract me from missing the old favorite characters.
It does take me a week or so to get into a new show, and sometimes it's hard to tell whether you're going to like something. Sometimes people sign up to recap with caveats..."I'll try this for a few weeks and see if I like it and want to stick with it"...and sometimes recappers start out on a show and eventually decide they really can't stand it and don't want to watch it anymore, so they resign from the recapping and someone else fills in or posts headers. It all works out. There are always at least a few people who want to discuss the show you're into.
Anyway, Robey...actually it's surprising how quickly you can shift to a new show mindset...and I really hope you'll join us for the next one, whatever it turns out to be!

Robey - Since this is my first telenovela I wouldn't know an answer to your Laura question except to remind you of General Hospital's Laura, as in Luke-n-Laura.
Re the next TN, please, not another "Llena de Amor" which, except for Fedra, was not something that I enjoyed. The whole premise of the fat chick victim was stale from episode 1. My two cents. But having been watching since "Juan Querendon", all in all, it's kind of refreshing to jump into a whole 'nother story.
As opposed to American soaps. Emilia used to watch "DOOL" aka Days of Our Lives (you know, like sands through the hourglass...) but found that if she missed it for weeks or months she could pick it right back up.

NOK: I didn't just mean recappers. I meant all the community. Recappers, commenters, lurkers. I find I miss the routine of tuning in, reading recaps and comments and commenting myself. But I think this TN will have me missing it for its own sake.
RLO: I didn't watch GH when L&L were in their heyday, though I've tuned into it off and on while they've been off and on.
I'm trying to figure out a bit of a TN I watched 15 years or so ago and all I remember was the heroine's name was Laura and I thought it was an historical, though after having watched these TN's take place in villages, I'm wondering if what I thought was historical was just regional costuming. Long shot finding out, I know.
Don't know if I'll tune into the new ones. I usually follow the actors and Lu, FC and SN are not in any--at least for now. I wonder if Alejandro Ruiz is in one of the new ones. Oh, I might follow the actor who plays Adri--I think she's very good.

But, Mike...LldA was so good, once we got past the stupid fat jokes phase! Actually I really considered jumping ship as a recapper on that one, but Valentino Lanús was doing so well comedically in that role, and I loved our intrepid policemen, so I stuck with it, and then it turned really good. Never did warm up to the protagonista, though, in thick or in thin. But it did get really funny.
Mike: Re: DAYS. I watch it. I watched it for a few years, years ago, but dropped it because of that problem of storylines going on forever (it took years to get Mike and Carrie together, I finally gave up before that happened). Since then I've tuned in off and on. I've now been watching since they brought back Carly two years ago. She's gone now, but there are other interesting characters. You might tell E that they have a new head writer and the storylines are supposed to be speeding up.

You may be surprised that you can find that possibly historical TN by googling some key words. Just last week I was telling my husband about a short film I'd seen in my Intro to Theater class way back in 1977. I googled SHORT FILM NO DIALOGUE PRISONER ESCAPE and found it! (Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge if anyone wants to You Tube a fine 30 minutes... it's what we wish Zeke had been able to do when the rope was around his neck, like it is around this guy's).
I didn't get into GH, but I did spend my college years hearing "You look like Laura". I loved the Christopher Cross "Laura" song, and when I told my bf that I liked it, he said "You only like it cuz everyone tells you that you look like her". Jerk. I can't believe I married him. lol Going on 29 years now!
About DOOL dragging, have you ever tried reading the Mary Worth comic strip? OMG! I was following it when there was an upcoming wedding a few years ago and it was dragging on, so I quit reading, then glanced at it 6 months later and the gal was still trying on wedding dresses. Can't say our CME does that.

Vivi, I've not seen any full episodes of UFcS but I've seen the first few minutes o several and it looks as though Sergio Sendel is having a blast. Right now I'm only watching CME and La Hija del Mariachi (a real jewel).

Mike couldn't get into Llena because he generally slept through it!! He had a killer commute then and when he finally sat down after supper his eyes just slammed shut, poor fella.
Gonzo and the 3 D's: yes designated dopey dad, I also would add deeply dense dad, defitinely dumbass dad. There I feel better. I think Gozno is catering to Regina's desire to gild Roberta's deeply flawed character in her exuberance to turn her doubts into a strong love for this unloveable pseudo daughter. And is is a family genetics flaw when his beloved sister Constanza has gotten just a dopey? But maybe he isn't totally dopey as he invites German's wife to the wedding. Can't wait to see Roberta act up or out.

Like your experience in San Antonio, I could not believe that Socorro, NM nearest town ot Bosque del Apache had hotels that did not carry Univision. I am so greatful for your wonderful recap to keep me up to date. Now I am going to do some finger yoga so I can be ready for tonight's episode of Berta meets Mrs. German, Panchita remembers to tell someone that she saw Roberta and a Fina on the loose. I am hoping that the Priscila entrance will make Matilde take off her stupid head band or that someone will snatch if off and her head will burst open spilling out all of the silly thoughts and fatal gossip she holds behind that little piece of leather. Super Laz needs to get busy and not let Augie hide behind that godfatherly horse wreath. And please dear TN gods and goddesses spare me one more night free of the Maritatas trail of sniffles and tears for lost causes. See you all in a few hours.

Robey, Miss Smartypants, that WAS a Twilight Zone episode. It is unique in that it was not made for Twilight Zone, but bought later to be aired by them. It won a Cannes Festival Best Film Award too.
Oh my goodness, you folks are hilarious! You have me totally cracking up here.

I thought for sure I was going to bail except that I adore Silvia Navarro and a few of the other actors (yes, Alejandro Ruiz is one of them). I'm SO GLAD I stuck with it. Not only is this one of my favorites but the commenting community has been simply amazing. Oh sad, sad day if I had given up on CME.

R la O: Re: the Twilight Zone ep. I thought the history about that ep was a little different from the usual eps. That was a great ep and a great show.
Sylvia: So sad about CME ending soon. One bright spot. All the meanies get theirs. After waiting months for SN's TN, I ended up missing the first nine eps--glad I did now since you all have talked about the horrible child abuse (though it also meant missing Nata's and Jero's first two meetings). If SN hadn't been in it and I'd seen those abuse eps, I probably would have dumped this one.
