Cuando Me Enamoro #150 Friday 11/18/11 Well Helloooooo Priscila

Yikes! Tonight's presentation begins with Augie savoring the events of earlier in the day. Sylvia covered this so well yesterday, and I'm innately lazy so with her permission I'll share with you once more her description of events that tonight's show begins with:

Ez asks Augi to think of his children, his wife. Augi smugly points out Ez should have thought of them. Ez keeps calling Augi desgraciado, as if he is cursing Augi, but Augustin just smiles and says “Adios amigo,” and thankfully the scene ends there. Oh that Augie is a bad bad dog. Next we see a split screen of Ez on the gurney and Aug in his truck, smiling and saying “If you go against me you won’t live to tell the tale.” The bastard drives up to the scene, rushes out and cries a bucket of crocodile tears over the body while Laz cautiously observes. Chema and dad are at the doc’s for a “Check Up” as Ben says in English. Chema wants to make it quick as he is keen to get back to work. Back at the body Augi tearfully demands how could Ez do such a thing? Laz says he knew Ez didn’t want to testify but he never thought this would happen. Augi pretends and exclaims now that Laz mentions it maybe Ez was much more affected than Augi thought. He says Ez had a great fear that the authorities would find out about something in his past, something that might end up putting him in jail. It happened a long time ago, when Ez left the Valle de Guadalupe to look for a better life. But we were kids then, says Laz, it was a very long time ago, 18 years ago at least. Manuela wonders what could he have done that was so bad? Aug says Ez committed robbery while in the U.S. and they put him in jail. When he returned home from serving time he never told them that's what happened to him. The others can’t believe it, more “No puede sers.” (That’s it? That’s the big crime of 18 years ago? Am I missing something?) Augustin is satisfied, believing he has secured his perfidy with a neat little knot of exaggeration. Yet behind him stands Lazaro, giving him a powerful stink eye filled with suspicion.

Thank you Sylvia.

It's a shame that looks can't kill because if they could, Agustín Dunant, clad in a distnctive white windbreaker, puffy collar curiously flipped up, chin jutting defiantly in a hideous rictus, would already be merrily winging his way to Hell where no doubt a corner room with a balcony view of the gaping maw of an eternal infernal canyon of flames awaits him... but pity... not today.

Meintras tanto, back at Zeke and Alfi's casa, as Luz quietly complains in her crib, Kari is gamely trying to comfort a brave little Panchito who realizes that he will never again see the daddy he loved so much. "No, mi amor, and I know that you'll miss him a lot."

He observes that he'll no longer be able to chat with his dad, but she informs him that is not the case and instructs him as she prayerfully clasps her hands and they practice. He follows her lead as he repeats her words

"Say after me, Corazón: Papito... I know you're OK... May you look after my mamita... my sister... and me... "

They make the sign of the cross.
"Every night talk to him." She concludes as she gives him a long loving hug.

Alfonsina has arrived at the murder scene and is understandably distraught. Zeke is resting in a body bag which strangely enough is unzipped, exposing his oddly peaceful face.

She shrieks that she wants to see him but offers only token resistance as Lazaro and Renata gently restrain her. "¿Por Qué?" she pleads, weeping inconsolably. Manuela begins, but Laz interrupts her and explains what they have just learned from Augie. Jerry admits that Zeke told him about it just the day before. Augie confirms it and adds that being the good guy he is, he trusted Zeke enough to hire him and that in return Zeke was always a loyal and trustworthy employ who never robbed him of a single centavo... Gack... Next!

Alison, clearly a budding young lawyer, instead of flirting with Aníbal, suggests that he assert his hijo rights. "In the US, gringos can sue their parents," she explains. He's not so sure, his expression indicates that actually... he'd rather flirt. "Wouldn't hurt to look into it, you might win a lot."

Back at the crime scene, it occurs to Jerry that some of this could have been his fault for mentioning Zeke during his declaration... Gee... you think? Augie is offended that Jerry mentioned him and Renata intervenes, asking the both of them to respect Alfi's feeling. Well, Alfi says don't mind her, it's obvious that Zeke wasn't the saint that she had imagined after all. He didn't even trust her enough to share his secrets. Carlos suggests that perhaps he didn't want to hurt her but her disposition sours even more as she storms off muttering to herself. I'd love to cut her some slack, what with her husband newly dead and all, but I'm having a difficult time warming to Alfi right now. I preferred her much more as Gardenia in MEPS.

Back at Empresa Monterubio, Matías and Honorario are busy defaming the characters of Roberta and Germán because Matt and Adri spotted them together in the restaurant.. They agree to tattle to Gonzo. "Yeah that's what we'll do."

Too late fellows, Germán is way ahead of you making a preemptive confession to Gonzo himself. Might have been misinterpreted by Matt and Adri, them spotting him and Roberta together in the restaurant and all. Gonzo, the designated dopey dad is looking even more befuddled than usual as Germán spins a clever web of deceit which leaves Gonzo agreeing that it'd be good for Germán to take Roberta under his protective wing in her inaugural days in a hostile environment. Kinda like another dad doncha know... after all she's about the same age as his son. Gonzo does know that Matías Honorio and Adri have it in for poor little Robi, doesn't he? Poor Gonzo looks like he's really missing his Etch-A-Sketch right about now.

At the center, Regina and Inés discuss Constanza's foray into maternal madness. Inés asks if Regina has fired her as head of operations. Nopis... Regina is "...certain that she do the correct thing." ... um OK... the phone for Nadie se Rinde rings for he first time... woohoo.

Meanwhile, Coni is doing her own version of the correct thing. She is enmeshing herself deeper and deeper into Corina's web offering both moral and financial support. No need to mention it to Regina...

At the clinic, as Chema undergoes a CT of his head (did this remind anyone else of Frankenstein?), it dawns on him, "Hey we already did this!" He smells a rat. The Dr. admits that he hasn't been completely honest. "Make an appointment and I'll tell you the truth."

Say what? Why not just say, "Hey, sorry but you have a fatal brain tumor, don't start watching any new telenovels or opening any new restaurants." ?... Or something to that effect.

Honorio and Matías arrive in Gonzo's office bearing chismes only to discover that Germán has beaten them to the punch. Gonzo tells them that Germán will be Robi's mentor. They wearily and warily agree to go along with this hare-brained plan... for Gonzalo and Regina.

At La Bonita, Manuela presents Alison to Jerry and Nata, as Aníbal, Mati, and Carlos look on. She apologizes to Renata for not informing her that Alison was coming. Everyone is going to prepare for the velorio, but Carlos remembers that he can't join them... he must pick up Priscila at the airport. Renata looks at Jerry as if to say, "WTF is Priscila?" Nobody seems to tell her anything.

Augie pays Melesio for a job cleanly done. He offers him the job as his capataz which has fortutously just opened up. Of course best wait until Zeke's in the ground... wouldn't want to appear unseemly. They both share a hearty laugh at this.

Hell is waiting for the both of you.

Karina offers to help Alfi prepare for the velorio. If not for the kids, Alfonsina wouldn't bother. She remembers Zeke's words to Luz,

"I wish I could cease being who I am and be the man that everyone imagines. Ay my daughter, if you only knew how much I want to disappear."

Alfi feels betrayed.

Augie makes a call to Robi insisting that she tell Renata about Zeke forcing himself on her... hoy mismo. She doesn't see a good reason to be calling her. He tells her to just call and ask about him. "She'll tell you that she's at the velorio for that infeliz." "¿Qué, Ezequiel is dead?" "Sí, and in a few hours, buried." "Agustín, don't tell me that you..." "Of course not... the important thing is that your sister learn that he took advantage of you."

Roberta is not so sure and doesn't really seem very surprised... or alarmed.

Seems to me that Augie may be over-reaching a bit with this ploy.

Roberta leaves to go home for lunch as Matías and Adri agree that they have done what they can about Robi and Germy, they'll just keep an eye on them from here on.

Surprise, surprise, Fina is waiting for Roberta in the parking garage. Dr. Icky has driven her over. She tells Robi that she won't allow her to stray from the fold (redil, a new word for me).

Aueropuerto Internacional de Tijuana.

Priscila's here! Wow.

"¡Charlie! ¡Charlie!"

Oh yes, Matilde's going to pop her headband.

It's been 5 maybe 6 years.

I think Charlie says it all with, "...from here on, everything will be just like before."
Yes indeed, Matilde will be thrilled.

Robi is impressed by Fina's mobility. Fina reminds her of who calls the shots. Right now, she needs money.

Everyone at the velorio is clad in black. The grieving widow is tastefully dressed in skintight black jeans, high topped black boots with impossibly high heels and a dark sweater that reveals a modest amount of cleavage. Remembering Dr. Nesme's farce of a funeral, she wants a look at the corpse. Laz dutifully pops the lid allowing her full access. She reaches out and discreetly holds a small mirror under Zeke's nostrils (actually I just imagined the mirror). She does feel his cheek and assures herself that he is indeed... muerto.

Antonio arrives as other mourners file in. He has Manuela point out the viuda. He offers a few words of comfort and then moves behind the coffin to intone the Lord's Prayer accompanied by a hunting feminine voice. Jerry and Nata arrives and Alfi repairs to another room. Antonio seems to have that effect on people.

Nata follows her into the bedroom, taking a seat beside her on the bed. She offers her shoulder. Instead of tears, Alfi sheds bitterness and disillusionment. Basically, all men are traitorous scum, and she gives Alvaro and Zeke as prime examples. Nata sees her Alvaro and Zeke and raises with Fina. There are . Then gives her stepdad as an example of a good man. I think this is supposed to be a hang in there pep talk but I find myself yawning so unless there is a request for an exact translation of these platitudes, I'll pass... Next!

Gonzo and Regina are wedding planing. Just family and Izzy and Inés. I presume they're going to forego the vocalist as well. Gonzo wants Germán and Mrs. Germán. Yeah... what could possibly go wrong there?

Roberta briefly joins them. She's home for lunch but first has to get some money for Fina. She neglects to tell them that second part.

Fina waits impatiently outside in the car. She looks on as her clothing is carted out in boxes and dumped unceremoniously into a dolly. Panchita is overheard saying how evil Fina was and what an angel Regina is. Ouch!

Robi stuffs wads of cash in a department store gift box. It's even topped with a bow.

"En el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espiritu Santo." The velorio seems to be winding down... but wait! Heeeeere's Augie!

Wow! Huge garish wreathes straight out of The Godfather.

He approaches the Widow Alfi and inquires, "¿Cómo estás?"

You murdered her husband! How the Hell do you think she is?

He pukes up the following:

"I don't want you to worry about your future, already too much tragedy is happening to you. "
She 's puzzled, "To what are you referring with my future?"

"So you want feel alone, I'm going to help you. I'm going to take care of the education of your two hijos until they finish their studies. Also I want you to know that you will continue receiving Ezequiel's salary as a pensión vitalicia."

"Excuse me what is vitelcia?"

"For life. Every knew that Ezeqiel was my loyal employee and that I loved him. His death affected me profoundly. He was always an irreplaceable person for me."
Jerry takes the opportunity to express doubt.

Renata upbraids him, telling him this is very gracious on Augie's part.

Jerry replys, "If it were gracious, he wouldn't have said it for all the world to hear."

Impervious, Augie continues, "Alfonsina, I can't offer you the position that Ezequiel held because I know that you already hold one at La Bonita, but I want you to know that the doors of my hacienda will always be open for you and your family."
She is grateful as Jerry glowers.

I think I'm gonna be sick.

She rests her head on the coffin as Antonio whispers words of consolation to Panchito.

Robi has the gift box for Fina, telling Regina and Gonzo that it is a gift for Selene she hurries out to deliver it.

What's this? Regina looks suspicious.

Robi delivers the cash to a waiting Fina, but the best part is Panchita sees it and even better... recognizes Fina.

Wow, it's late and I have a wake up alarm in 4 hours so I just want to thank you for a magnificent looking recap with pictures and all. You were absolutely the right person to take us out of the depths of our sorrow and move us upward and onward. Bravo, Carlos, bravo.

Well good morning Cheryl in your snazzy beanie!...and good morning Carlos. Great to start my Saturday off with you both (beats raking leaves by a mile)...

So many gems, Carlos:

"designated dopey dad" (yes, the actor is playing brain-damaged extremely well)

"missing his Etch-a-Sketch" (and how)

"Alfi repairs to another room. Antonio seems to have that effect on people" (he certainly has that effect on me)

and the all-time winner is.....

{Augustin} "pukes up the following..."

Simply perfect, amigo mio...thanks. Hope you had as much fun writing it as I did reading it.

A perfect Saturday morning; sun is shining, hot cup of fresh coffee and a stellar recap by Carlos.Simple joys in life.

Was so looking forward to your wonderful take on things, and you certainly hit it out of the park.

"holds a small mirror under Zeke's nostrils (actually I just imagined the mirror). "

"I think I'm gonna be sick." (I was!)

and I'm with Judy..."missing his Etch-a-Sketch". Perfection.

Which begs the question, what is this man doing at work? Seems he isn't exactly in "let's make some corporate decisions" mode yet. This Mentor idea is just stupid. But then again, could be fun watching Berta getting all excited only to meet the Mrs.

As for our major focus - I had two moments when I wanted to strangle someone. First Aug for his grand entrance.(Of course everything this man does now makes my skin crawl.) This man could give How-to-be-a-Diva lessons. That wreath was the most offensive thing I've ever seen.
Secondly, but how Alfi just left Ponchito to everyone else just did it to me. I've never been a huge fan of her character, but I just found her reaction to everything a little too me-centric. Everyone else had to comfort the boy and those looks he gave his mother were heart-breaking. Me, that child would have been my main focus.I'm the adult, he's a child and he lost his father. Argh...just call me too child-centric but I didn't like it.

Monday's fireworks should be fun though. Pachita rats out Berta and Fina! And the best- Priscilla, meet Mathilde. Yikes! Someone better hide the kitchen knives.

Whoa! Carlos! Thank you! Haven't read it yet but thanks for giving me fuel to get my housework and errands done. This is gonna be good!

Lila

Good morning Cheryl, Judy, and Daisynjay. Thanks for the compliments. I was one of those catch your breath episodes although Priscila and Fina manged to liven it up a bit. I really feel that I short-changed Fina who was delicious last night in her total domination of poor Robi.

Cheryl, you look stunning in your Emelia-crafted beanie. I hope that you were greeted this morning by a day as beautiful as ours here has begun.

Judy, indeed this was a lot of fun, though I think I'm better suited to comic romps like Gancho. I actually felt sorry for poor Gonzo as Germán made his pitch. I don't think Germán is particularly evil, and I find it amusing if he thinks that he can take advantage of Roberta.

I may have been a little unfair picking on Antonio. His little unheard conversation with Panchito seemed especially tender.

daisynjay, "...what is this man doing at work?"

My sentiment exactly. Let's hope that Germán is simply lecherous. Otherwise, the way he is able to manipulate a bewildered Gonzo could be very unhealthy for the empresa.

As you know, I ❤ Matilde, but I can't wait for her to meet Priscila.

Carlos

Ah Carlos, I always enjoy your wicked humor, even in the face of tragedy. Simply perfect! And pics too. A great Saturday morning read over my chai.

Let the battle of the dark-, long-haired beauties begin for Charlie! This should be fun.

And Panchita was on the same wavelength as all of us. No church charity for Fina's clothes. Straight into the dustbin with those evil rags! And it looks like on Monday she doesn't keep quiet about what she saw. What will Gina do with this info though? Will she beleive it? She was looking mighty suspicious about where Berta was going.

That German is one smart womanizer-preemptive excuse-making. The wedding, with Berta and his wife in the same room, should be fun. Gonzo has no one but himself to blame. He has been warned.

I am hoping Alfie will snap out of this bitter/angry phase quickly for her kids' sake. That bugged me too Daisynjay. But at least she knows she is surrounded by good people who will look after Panchito and Luz while she melts down. Kari was being a very good godmother.

Carlos- As soon as Augie walked in, all smug with those HUGE wreathes, I thought about the Godfather too. And his evil shared laugh with Melesio...just sickening. Ugh!

If Anibal decides to bring a legal claim against Augie, as Alison suggests, I think he will end up going back to Aguas Calientes...in a coffin.

Carlos, my goodness I've only just read your first paragraph and I'm already howling at your description of Augustin: "chin jutting defiantly in a hideous rictus". Wowzers! I love your description of his penthouse in hell.

OK then, I just wanted to say good morning to you before continuing on with this most excellent read.

Carlos,

I have to ru off to work & haven't had time to watch the show or read more than the first couple of paragraphs -- but I know I'm in for a treat this afternoon when I get home.

You started off with a bang. Your description of Auggie "clad in a distnctive white windbreaker, puffy collar curiously flipped up, chin jutting defiantly in a hideous rictus" --- and the hell which awaits him --- is masterful. Can't wait to read more.
Güera

Carlos, it has been way too long since I've enjoyed one of your recaps. Cheryl said it well, you are the perfect one to escort us out of Thursday might's tragedy.

Daisynjay, you are spot-on with your comments about Alfonsina. The way she was yowling and running around, completely ignoring her children, was very annoying. Last night clearly showed that Karina will be a wonderful mommy. Her prayer with Ponchito made my eyes tear up.

I'm still seething about Augustin's grand entrance at the velorio. What a jerk, interrupting everything with his hideously huge flower collection, taking center stage to make sure everyone hears about his financial aid to Alfonsina and kids. I don't believe for a minute that he would actually follow through "for life". Anyway, people around him don't seem to have very long lives and I doubt children are exempt.

Vivi, yep yep yep about Anibal heading back to Aguas Calientes in a coffin. I hope the kid is careful.

I think Berta's got Augie's number. I think she even said she wouldn't put it past him to have been involved in Ezeq's death.

Whee, I can't wait to see the sparks fly between Mati and Priscilla and Berta and Mrs. German. Should be fun!

Carlos, thank you for the stunning recap and wonderful pics. By far my favorite is the last one of Panchita. Her face says it all.

Wonderful read, Carlos,

I know that without bad judgement as a centerpiece we'd all just be watching the science channel and that in Gonzo's case he at least has a reason for his lesion, but every time I see him in his diminished state I hear Ray Bolger in the background singing "If I only had a brain."

Alfi's insisting to see Zeke was kind of humorous - like the guy's been hanging from a tree for several hours and she's not sure he's dead? Once I was working with an ER doc who was asked to declare someone dead. I watched as he carefully listened to the patient's chest in several places, taking his time, and he looked up at me and said, "This is one diagnosis you don't want to f@#$ up."

I see Augie made a quick trip to Churchill Downs to scarf up some used horse wreaths to give to Alfi - or, wait a minute - since he knew when the death would take place, maybe he ordered them in advance.

I don't know if Roberta will be put off by meeting Mrs. Germy. She strikes me as the kind of girl who is will to share her charms with all comers (pun intended).

David

Dr. Charlie, thank you for the delightful recap.

Your description of Augie's penthouse would scare anyone straight.

I was happy to see Prissy arrive, Mati needs to suffer for all stupid things she has said. I consider this her penance for all of the harm she has done. No redemption for her until she suffers.

The "missing Etch-a-Sketch" was too funny but so true.

Nothing can keep Fina down, she even has the evil doctor driving her around, no public transportation for her.

Cheryl, loved the new "look"!

David, your comments about Augie and Roberto will have me smiling all day.

Thanks all,

Rosemary #1

Hi, Carlos

Couldn't wait for chores and errands. I didn't finish last night's ep and watching my recording. I can't wait for your recap and comments. I just have to vent how disgusted I am with Alfonsina: what a hipocritical dipstick! She should've run off with nastynesme! I cannot believe her attitude! I know, I know, the social mores in this small town, the adherence to traditional Catholic values. . .she's still a thankless skank!

Phew! Feel better, see y'all later.

Lila

Carlos:
I must echo the gems from today's recap: they are the same as JudyB's!

At "designated dopey dad" I carefully put my coffee aside. "Missing his etch-a-sketch", however caused me to burst into such loud laughter that the cats jumped up and ran away.

I am with you and DaisynJay on Alfie's parenting skills. I am not impressed. The actress is doing a great job showing rage, no doubt. Is Alfie the character creating an emotionally safe environment for her children? Decidedly NOT!

Vivi, I am with you on the evaluation of German's character. Berta may be bad but she is young and at least there is some dim hope for her. German, I see his premtive
strike with dim Gonzo as horribly predatory. Usually, dear Carlos, ITA with you, but here I must respectfully disagree.

The wreaths??? Simply bad taste. Anybody else catch that they were emblazoned with "Cruz de Amor" banners so that everybody was aware of who provided the vulgar display? I wonder if Augustin keeps a stash of those white and gold mourning ribbons handy?

Carlos, thank you so much for a delicious recap. Wonderful to read your work again.

EJ

Carlos:

I forgot to thank you for the perfect description of "Agustín Dunant, clad in a distnctive white windbreaker, puffy collar curiously flipped up"...Oh my! that was apt.

I will never understand wardrobe on tns, I swear. I know you all have rehashed this into the ground but since when did the windbreaker become costume de rigueur for a murderous vineyard owner? Is this supposed to be a clue into Augustin's background/class history? Jero wears trousers and button-down vs. Augie's windbreakers or sheepskin indoor-outdoor coats? Any ideas, all? I DO get stuck on wardrobe, I am afraid.

EJ

Carlos! Thank you, absolutely wonderful! I could not stand Auggie at the funeral but I did read your account. Your vivid description of the hell that awaits this demon PLUS Julie's recipe for his demise cannot come soon enough. He makes Fernando in FELS look like a deacon! Someone asked yesterday if the plan to accuse Zeke of taking advantage of Roberta would be followed through. . . well, we got our answer! I don't think I've seen a more despicable villian. And Roberta, for her to go along with this lie to defame a dead man. . .I don't know redemption club, she may not deserve "a corner room with a balcony view of the gaping maw of an eternal infernal canyon of flames" but she does deserve some degree of thermal rehabilitation. Sheesh!

Thanks Carlos for this exquisite recap!

EJ, I thought I saw 'Cruz...' on a wreath! Thanks for pointing it out. I feel a touch less crazy.

Dr. Carlos, So good to read your recap. Missed them!! You are superb , comedy or drama. Wonder if the writers meant for CME to be as comedic as our recappers' interpretations! Muchísimas gracias!

Commenters, y'all are excellent also. I learned early on not to try to drink anything while reading recaps and comments!

Thermal rehabilitation!! Love it!

Now I see why everyone was so excited for Carlos to do a re-cap! You have quite the wit, Amigo. You had me LOLing at your title.

Your description of hell was extraordinary, rivaling Dante's.

Really, there was a mass laugh with that Etch-a-Sketch line. It struck all of our funny bones. So did the Chema scene: "Don't start watching any new telenovelas".

For me, the best line was about Gonzo and Regina planning their wedding: "I presume they're going to forego the vocalist". hahaha

And the pictures! I loved them, especially Panchitas funny horrified expression.

Alfi did relish the angry grieving widow role more than caring mother.

Now that Renata had that bonding heart-to-heart with her, will Alfi still be cheering on the demise of Ren/Jero in favor of Tata/Jero?

We did see a tearful Tata in the previews, so I hope you all enjoyed these two days without her sniffles cuz here she comes with her kleenex in hand.

Augie was disgusting. I did not notice the Cruz de Amor signage on the wreath, will have to re-wind to see that. Jero was right that if he was truly generous he wouldn't do it in front of everyone.

Cheryl - love the beanie pic! We are having a snowy day in SLC today so in addition to having it on this morning for the show, I will be wearing mine up to the U of U basketball game.

What else I'd love to be wearing is a tee-shirt with Panchita's picture with the caption "QTH?". We must carry a line of those in our Caray Gift Shop.

Carlos - you worried about being unfair picking on Antonio given his sweet talk with little Ponchito, but it really seemed like when he walked into the room with everyone dressed in black, he was in a darker shade of black. I almost got a gothic, vampire feeling from him.

I hope Sylvia is right that Roberta is figuring out Augie is a monster, but the previews looked like she was talking on the phone with Renata, probably speaking evil of the dead Zeke.

Ay! I could go on and on and on rehashing it all. Good times (in the face of so much misery)!

Rosemary la Otra

Oh... I forgot to ask a question. What did Fina tell Roberta she needed the money for? Isn't Roberta worried that Fina is still plotting to kill Gonzo and Regina? I thought she hated Fina for attempting just that, so why is she becoming an accessory now?

EJ-

Ah yes, wardrobe. In general, it doesn't seem like the Valle de Guadalupe folks put a lot or time or effort into their clothes. They wear what they feel comfortable in, and that's that. This goes for Augie too. Not sure how Alfie can feel comfortable in those skin tight jeans and high heeled boots, but no one else (except Nesme) seems to notice how sexy this look is. But the fact that she wears pants every day, while all the other country women wear skirts and dresses, says a lot about her high level position in the fields. She has a man's job.

The transplants to the country:
-Carlos- Dresses very much like the natives (comfort above fashion), but working the land was his career of choice.
-Jero is still totally a city boy. Almost always impecable in dress, even when dressed down. I mean, the man wore a tucked-in, button-down shirt, and pressed white pants to go riding! And when he's in the city and in those suits, he's simply divine.
-Maritatas- Well, since she got pregnant, she's started to be a bit more modest about showing off her girls or her gams. With that and all the big jewelry, I'm not sure how she got away with working at a hospital, even in Mexico City!
-Renata: Well, wardrobe always has "fun" with the heroine's clothes, so that she has a signature "look." I will say that in the beginning, when she was 100% a city girl; her clothes were professional and more normal. She started to dress down as soon as she got to the country-- riding pants, jeans, untucked shirts. Things didn't start getting weird until her relationship with Jero started going down the toilet. Perhaps it's a reflection of her inner turmoil? Maybe, once everything gets settled and there's no more drama, her clothes will go back to being normal?

Then again, as someone else pointed out, the shorts with tights, gloves, scarves, furry vests, are actually all in style. I have seen plenty of fashion mags and store displays with this look. It's meant to be bohemian, which fits Nata's personality.

If you all can't remember how Nata used to dress, here's a compilation of Nata-Jero moments from the first half of the tn (there's also a part 2, but I think it will have spoliers of moments yet to come), where you can see the evolution of Nata's clothing choices: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_Gz5xZSgac

Vivi:

You are a delight! Thanks so much for your comments on TN clothing choices. As soon as I read your take on Alfie's wardrobe I grocked it. Thanks, that was very insightful.

You're right about all the things Renata wears being at the forefront of style when the TN was made some, what, 18 months ago. Some of them are just now reaching real popularity on the streets. It's just that I am not sure they were all meant to be worn TOGETHER, except on a runway by a 6 foot tall Amazon.(Grin).

Of course, I also just hit myself in the forehead with my palm, DUH, EJ! PRODUCT PLACEMENT in wardrobe design. I am sure Augie's windbreakers and Nata's shorts and tights, and boots, and gloves and vests and pirate shirts all have designer labels on them and at the least, the wardrobe department gets freebies to hold down the budget and at the most the companies may be paying big bucks to see see SN in those get-ups.

I had also imagined that the extremes of fashion (remember the bubble halter dresses on MEPS?) might be a kind of planned obsolescence, making th
EJe TNs look dated quickly, thus allowing them to be remade within 10 years or so.

Whew. We all have our little issues, don't we? I feel much better having sorted out CME's wardrobe with Vivi's help.

Whew--Just finished savoring el Doctorzote's recap extraordinaire.

Carlos--I'm glad you didn't recap the hanging scene in your own words. It wasn't suited to comic relief.

But "a corner room with a balcony view of the gaping maw of an eternal infernal canyon of flames awaits him," is perfection for Augie, as long as the flames keep licking at his toes and melts the ice in his drink and the glass before he goes over.

Loved suggesting that Chema not start any new telenovelas, too. Hee hee.

BTW, Carlos--remember that the moniker "Dr. Icky" belongs to our NastyN, the Gunsucker--may he soon rest in some kind of pieces.

I was the one who mentioned Nata's strange wardrobe choices of late in an earlier post--but Vivi's take on it explains it better.

It's the GLOVES that bother me the most now. Does Silvia Navarro have a skin condition or got tired of using hand sanitizer? After eyes and lips, hands are the sexiest implements of seduction--who wants to hold hands with dead cow skin anyway.

Who was taking care of Luz during the velorio? Do we really care, with Alfie the center of attention until Augie arrived with his racing wreath?

I'm looking forward not so much the sparks between Berta and Mrs. German, as how Mr. German is going to juggle them if he wants to keep both his sugar mama and sugar baby. I think the Mrs'll be too smart for his game with his track record.

Same goes for poor Carlos-de-Mati. He isn't as savvy about girls, nor has the espina to ward off Priscilla, the circling shark. Hey girl--go after Augie, he needs a few bites out of him.

RLaO--Fina needs the money to keep paying off the Demented Director so he will keep helping her in and out of the prison manicomio.

I think Berta is going to back off Augie with a German-in-hand, but not because she's afraid of him. What has Augie offered her in return for her cooperation? She lives to make her sister's life miserable and unhappy and spend money and lounge by the pool. Has Augie stopped to think that IF he ever were to win Nata, he'd have Berta messing up his relationship with her? Well, probably not and it wouldn't bother him. We know how he takes care of his problems.

Love your analysis Vivi - so spot on with "the divine" on Jero. That man should be a spokesperson for a suit line.

I had a roommate back in the day , make that WAY back in the day, who was a major in theater and design. She use to fixate on assignments that her costumes and sets had to reflect the character of the person to the audience. After living with her for two years, I'm like you and elna, always looking for the hidden meaning of the wardrobe. TN's make it so fun since they sometimes go to extremes. ( Shades of those corsets poor Maite had to wear in Mi Pecado.)

Looking at our resident major dudes, I've always thought:

Auggie: constantly in coats or jackets symbolizes his cold-heartedness.
Jero: Love your word "impeccable".Perfect description. Like Gonzo, exudes a sense of calm authority even when dressed casual.Even when he was a jerk, there was a sense he was a good guy at heart.

As for Nata: I think her wardrobe is a way to show her individuality and "young at heart" approach to life. I personally think they took it a step too far with all the shorts and tights but I guess they wanted to make sure she reflected a different style than Berta as they progressed through the story.

Now if I can only find a costume expert to explain what the blazes Mati's headband is supposed to symbolize, I would be happy.

NOK

"I think Berta is going to back off Augie with a German-in-hand..." This sentence tickled me pick. Roberta has made achieving the misery of Renata a hobby, hasn't she? German-in-hand, ROTFL.

DaisynJay, Thank goodness for other costume geeks! I have no idea of the costumer's intent with the headband but I think if you unbraided it and tied it vertically under her jaw you might have enough rawhide for a good muzzle. Heaven only knows she needs it.

If ever there was a girl who is better off seen and not heard....it's adorable little Mati.

EJ

Wow, lots of nifty thoughtful comments.

Vivi, I haven't really noticed Panchita until the last few days. I thought that poor Fina was going to have a stroke when she saw what was happening to her wardrobe plus having the benefit of hearing her commentary. She probably has earned a spot on Fina's growing to do list.

Sylvia, what a treat it was for me to join again for just a moment this distinguished group of recappers. When Augie said, "...I want you to know that the doors of my hacienda will always be open for you and your family." I flashed back to the scene when Renata encountered Ponchito playing in the winery and his terror of being caught by Augie.

David, I'm glad you enjoyed it. As somber as things were at the velorio, I had to laugh when Alfi recalled what happened in regard to Kari's request to view the remains of Alvaro and subsequent events. Notice that Laz didn't hesitate or offer any resistance to her demand.

Rosemary #1, when Pris called Carlos Charlie, I knew instantly that we are in for a good time but my heart goes out to Charlie. I can already hear Mati's voice mocking Priscila as she calls him Charlie.

I love that Dr. Icky is now Fina's chauffeur.

Lila, "thankless skank?" gee, I thought I was harsh in my opinion of Alfi's behavior in this episode... I'm glad you got that off your chest.

The way you feel about recapping and the responses we get is very much like the experience makes me feel. After all this time it's no less thrilling than that very first time.

I'm guessing that you (Lila) are the anon following Elna June's comments. I have to admit, my hope for Roberta's redemption is fading fast.

Elna June, I'm so happy to be enjoying a TN (especially one of such quality) with you again. I totally agree that Germán is a practiced predator but who better for him to be pursuing than our experienced skanklet, Roberta? I think that the quiet, intimate wedding will be enlivened by Roberta and the Ibarrolas. No doubt Mrs. I's skank antenna will be fully extended and functional.

Emelia, my heart soars like an eagle knowing that I was able to entertain you once again. I cherish my expertly crafted bubini (I'm wearing it now). I told you it reminds me of Alfonsina, so I'm hoping that she snaps out of this selfish funk that Zeke's death has plunged her into.

Thanks Rosemary la O. Who knows, what with Fina's ability to travel unimpeded, perhaps there will be a surprise guest singer at the wedding.

You know, I really don't think Roberta ever asked what the money is for. Fina reminded her that the money is hers and Roberta carped about it intruding on her time to bring money to Fina at every whim. She offered to bring it all to her once and for all but Fina said that the director would take it all from her if she had it with her. Besides, she enjoys the control over Robi.

Elna June and Vivi, I'm enjoying the discussion about fashion and its tie to each character. During Gancho, fashion was often a topic described and discussed in many of the recaps.

Carlos

Carlos!

Don't want my praise to be anonymous, that was me at ll:57 a.m. calling for thermal rehabilitation for Roberta! Reading comments now. Damn. We're good.

Lila

Oh Carlos, I just had to stop by when I saw your name -- and I'm so glad I did. Your opening paragraph alone is enough to maintain your standing in the Recappers Hall of Fame. Guau! Thank you for this splendid and witty work.

I won't repeat all the zingers that so many others have already cited (though I loved your sly hope that Gonzo and Regina would pass on the vocalist with this next wedding.)

Am I the only one who thinks this novela, for all its delights, is suffering perhaps from a surfeit of plots? Aren't there worthy charities out there, writers of minimalist novelas who could use a spare subplot or three (or four... or five)? Nah. :)

NOK, I was catching up with the comments from earlier today when you posted. Thanks for pointing out that Nesme has already assumed the Dr. Icky name. After reflection, I think an appropriate moniker for the director might be Dr. Perrofiel. He's bit by bit assuming that status with Fina.

Mati did such a bangup job winning over Carlos' mom, maybe she'll do the same with Pris... they could even become fast friends... ummm yeah... that's it... fast friends...

Carlos

NovelaMaven, I'm so glad you stopped by... and with such kind words. I've told you before how much I admire your writing so you must know how much your compliments mean to me. It sounds as though you are very familiar with the show.

NOK, about the hanging scene, I'm still in a state of shock over it. Silvia's, "...and thankfully the scene ends there." cannot be improved upon.

Carlos

Carlos--Yep, fast on and fast off.

Dr. Perrofiel--should be immortalized.

Surprise guest singer at the wedding--I'd forgotten her appearance at the church wedding. Could we hope for anything or anyone better?
NOK

Carlos,

It's true. I wasn't a fan early on (I hated the backstory) but when our beloved Pola left us, I sought solace at La Bonita and began to peek at the recaps. So most nights I enjoy Renata and Jero and the gang and the assorted villains and vixens. And the recaps, of course, are a hoot.

Finally home from a busy day and I had a chance to finish your recap. By now most of my favorite lines have been cited. Suffice it to say that I chuckled all the way through.

Thanks for a wonderful read.

Carlos thanks so much for your recap. It is fun to read your wit again. I do hope a comic novela appears in the future so we can read your work regularly.

ITA w/those vexed with Alfi and her complete self-centeredness. You've got two children you have to think of so please get over yourself.

Vivi - while you are probably right about what Augie would do to Anibal, I'm hoping that Augie would get caught before he was able to kill his seed (but then again I thought Zeke would live)

In the preview flurry I loved that someone was finally telling Regina about Roberta not being hers. I also like that this sometimes trying character seemed to be showing discernment - yeah ultimas semanas.

I also want to extend my thanks to the other recappers this week. Cheryl as usually you were great. Lila, welcome and congratulations on an incredible first time. Marta thank you for your dialogues; I wish Zeke had listened to you. And Sylvia your recap was as good as that episode was bad.

Güera, I'm glad you finally had an opportunity to slow down enough to read the recap. I know that you had a busy Sat. I'm happy that I was able to provide a few chuckles.

Thanks Karen, it was fun offering up this recap after taking a prolonged break. It reminded me of what an effort our recappers make each week providing us with a base to begin our daily discussions of the TNs.

Carlos

Hi, Karen and thank you for the warm welcome. My recording needs adjustment, always cuts off the previews so this really caught my eye: "In the preview flurry I loved that someone was finally telling Regina about Roberta not being hers." Really?!! Wowzers! Gonna be a great week. I am so ready for her to get busted!!

Lila

Vivi and Elna June - love the wardrobe analysis! It seems like Fina is usually wearing some sort of coat too, so that fits in with the cold-hearted theory.

Mati's headband may symbolize a squeezing of the brain, not allowing the "Think Before You Speak" section ample oxygen to function.

I wonder if Carlos' mom knows Priscilla. Maybe she thinks she is the one who got away, and will love stirring the pot again against Mati, and in favor of Helloooooo Priscilla.

NOK - Thanks, I guess I get that Fina needs the money to get in and out, but I don't understand why Roberta would be the one to make that possible.

Roberta has some pros/cons to weigh... her dad and Regina dead vs. her dad and Regina finding out the truth. If they're dead, the truth won't matter. Except for that stupid inheritance. Another pro/con to weigh... is the money worth their deaths?

One way to get out of this is to approach Regina with the truth, crying that she only wanted the love of a mother like Regina. She has to know Regina would not turn her away.

Oh well, it looks like the banker guy is going make this a moot point with his "Roberta no es su hija". THIS is what I've been waiting for! I hope they spread it out all week so we can savor it.

R la O

RLaO--It's Berta that has been keeping Fina's stash, so she has to get it from her.

Bert doesn't have even little cojones to stand up to the Mama with the biggest set of all.

Otherwise, I'm with you on the why doesn't she just tell Regina the whole story and forget Fina.

On the other hand, she now knows Fina can come and go as she pleases and Bertie KNOWS what Mama can do. She also knows what is waiting for her if the ruse is kept up--Roberto's trust (mucho dinero $$$$$) fund for his legitimate daughter--little Regina I. She's keeping her eyes on the prize.

I sure hope Monday is not one of their teasers. They have advertised Ultimas Semanas already. They're doing that on LFdD, too. Can they really have two tns ending at the same time? (I'm watching that one with one eye open.)
NOK

Not only did Charlie fail to tell Matilde about Priscilla, but I don't think he told Priscilla about Matilde. Monday should be good! my money's on Matilde. I'm pretty sure she could kill with that headband. It has to be useful for something.

And until Roberta kills someone, I still have hopes for her. She's running out of time though. I'm hoping she doesn't try to take down Ezekial's memory. Telling Renata the truth about this could score big karma points for her that she very badly needs.

Kelly

Carlos, you never disappoint. You are an elite recapping high jumper; no matter how high the bar, you always clear it and make it look easy. And now we know that you can certainly bring your signature style to a tragedy as well as a comedy! I hope a good fun show comes down the pike soon so we can enjoy your work on the regular.

I'd be interested in a wardrobe analysis of Selene, always in blue, and Matias of the shiny shiny suits.

Then there's Gonzo, who is always formally dressed and of such stiff, ramrod-straight posture that he looks like an action figure. He's about as useful as a plastic action figure, too.

I'm not so sure Alfonsina is going to survive to the end. Maybe Kari and Laz will get a quick start on the big family they want with two instant kids. Kari's been doing a better job of parenting them than Alfi has lately.

My jaw dropped at Augie's pompous disruptive entry with the obscenely large wreath and self-serving speech. How can Renata not see what Jero sees in this creep?

Ahoy all, I've thoroughly enjoyed myself reading everyone's comments from today.

Whoa, I missed the preview where Berta gets outed. Cool!!

I love the wardrobe analysis. I hardly every notice what the characters wear except for Jero looking like a million bucks in his suits. Otherwise it's mostly over my head, so I enjoy reading everyone's opinions. Very interesting stuff. Oh, I also notice Nata's shorts and tights because, um, how could I not notice? She has such a smashing figure it's kind of shame to hide it behind those nutty outfits.

I'm with Julia, what do you folks make of Blue Sele and Shiny Matias?

Well, Sylvia, I thought about your color question for a bit and I guess I just am not a deep enough person to come up with an answer like Vivi or EJ would, but let me at least give you my impressions.

Selene in blue - of course we have enjoyed Selene more since her estrangement from Roberta, but she has not been a lovable character. When one thinks of blue they think of the sky and ocean, depth and tranquility, and I just don't see that fitting Selene. One can also think of blue as cold or ice, which is more appropriate, but not really accurate either. So... my conclusion is the wardrobe people looked for a color that went well with Berta's pinks and purples. Pretty simple minded, but makes sense.

Then Shiny Matias - Even though he's been a good sport of late with the whole Chema thing, we can't forget all the bawling he did whenever he didn't get his way. So, I think the shiny material symbolizes a huge tear drop, which is about what I think of him.

R la O

For Matias - Hmmm glossy suits and oversized ties (his tie knots are usually rather large) - bit too egotistical, showy and doesn't command quiet command like Jero but is a "in your face" type character? He may be a good guy, but he's still young and trendy--shows learning to do?

Selene - blue is the color of sadness and quiet. Most of the TN, she just seemed like a miserable wretch until she confessed to Jero-seemed to turn a corner. Now she's more a background character. Dress her in non-memorably outfits, or pastel, quiet blue.

Funny, I've been rewatching the latest season of Mad Men to refresh my memory before the new season starts, and darn, if I didn't spend most of the time yesterday thinking why certain characters were dressed the way they were. I have become obsessed....

Oh Daisy, I love the women's clothes in Mad Men! If I had Betty's little waist I would wear those belted dresses. I love the colors. Some are so over-the-top for today, like Betty's long gold robe that she cooks breakfast in. I think their wardrobe people have done an amazing job.

The men all look like Mormon missionaries (when they aren't drinking and smoking), but that is how it was.

Do you realize the last episode was in 2010, and the next won't be until 2012? How do they expect continuity? I love Mad Men, but find the plot hard to follow.

R la O

Daisynjay, I love the analysis of Selene in blue. Perhaps she can go from sadness to serenity so the color would befit both stages of her life? And R la O and Julia, great take on Matias and his shiny suits. :)

NovelaMaven- I'm so glad you've been lurking on this one so that we can occassionally get your take on things. This tn plot is complex to be sure, but it's not a circo like so many others with complex plots and lots of characters. I feel like the writers are doing a good job keeping it all together and keeping things fresh and exciting.

Hi Kelly, to be fair, Carlos did try to prepare Matilde for Piscila but gave up after Matilde kept babbling about something inane (did I just say that?). Even if he had been able to, I don't think that he would have given her a real true picture... Pris sort of has to be seen to be appreciated.

I'm also a hoper for Robi, but her chances of redemption seem to dim every time she opens her mouth or picks up the phone.

Julia, what sweet things to say. Your description of Gonzo is dead on as for as I'm concerned. I felt a little guilty picking on him, what with a bullet in his head and all, but that wide-eyed bewildered look begs for comment. When he first arrived home, the other family members were literally shaping and positioning him like a rigid action figure.

I can't let the day pass without commenting on Baylor's stunning victory over Oklahoma last night. First time ... ever. Woohoo!

Carlos

Carlos, you earned a six pack of Shiner Bock for this one. You have not lost your touch and it was wholly a pleasure to read "Carlos" again.

So what was Gonzalo doing at work? Clearly, being a fashion model with the scarf and topcoat draped over his shoulders. Does he use eye liner? Will cut some slack because he and Honorio seem to be two of the straightest guys I've seen on TNs.

Ugh to the thought of Matilde launching herself into childish tantrums re Priscilla. No doubt we'll hear all about how she's just a country girl and of course Carlos still loves the sophisticated Priscilla. Oh, and Priscilla's "Charlie, Charlie" caused a thirty year flashback:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5juK-UrgJG0

Re color analysis, I'd like to hear your (plural) thoughts about the cold blue gray color of walls throughout Chez Monterrubio and also about Constanza's incessant wearing of pink. And I still want Matias to shave and give up the sharkskin suits and, especially, the dark shirts. Unless he's practicing to become a Mafioso.

"A corner room with a balcony view of the gaping maw of an eternal infernal canyon of flames awaits him," - Carlos, did you come up with that by yourself or did the poet Vergil appear in a dream and give you a guided tour of Inferno? Too good.

Shelley Hack! She was so cute as the Charlie girl. Mike, you've got a great memory.

Carlos, congratulations on Baylor's victory. It sounds like it was an exciting game, and what an upset!

Carlos, you're a pro as always. Thanks for covering this week! It gave me the opportunity to catch up on mountains of work this weekend. I'm so ready for Thanksgiving so I can devote more time to Caray!

Amy

Yes, Amy, that's the way to capture the true spirit of Thanksgiving!

Carlos feeling funny picking on Gonzalo "what with a bullet in his head and all". lol! That picture you posted shows spot-on something that has puzzled me about Gonzalo: how he feels he has to put his chin down and look up with his eyes when addressing something serious. Poor dazed Gonzalo at work "clearly being a fashion model". lol Mike!

One thing I noticed about the MR house colors was the other day when Inez was over visiting with Regina they were in a pretty lavender room. Where's that room been? Or are they already softening the lighting for us? But, yes, I've often thought of Alcatraz when looking inside that house. Those big balls that everyone trips on at the bottom of the stairs have to go. And the black bedroom wallpaper.

R la O

Carlos:

Congrats on Baylor's victory.Wow! What a game. We had to delay eating our early Thanksgiving dinner last night until half-time at the Big Game between Cal and Stanford. Alas, DH's alma mater Stanford beat Cal (where 2 of my three children and I matriculated), but at least our guys at Cal showed up and gave them a game.

As to color I love R la O and Daisyn jay's thoughts. Like you I love the Mad Men costumes. The gold Robe! We have laughed about that around here many a time. My kids have threatened to get me one to cover my normal frowsy-tacky but comfortable black velour track suit. I know, you are disappointed in my sartorial choices. So am I.

The colors in the house at Casa Monterubio makes my skill crawl. When I was in grad school (a million years ago) folks were talking a lot about and doing decent research on color theory. It seems like it is a topic that has lost favor and gone into the realm of pop-psych in the last 20 years. That blue-grey color would have been used on manicomio walls back in the day, ostensibly to soothe the crazies.

Pink and Constanza? I thought it was
probably something she put in her contract because the actress looks so beautiful in the color. (Smile.)

Carlos, here's to hoping that German is not as predatory with Empresa as a company as he is with Roberta as a person.

ITA with Mike on Matias. To me his look is odd, incongruent. The shiny suits may be fashionable but the actor has a very heavy beard and the two-day growth does not photograph very well on TV.

I bet the actor is quite striking in person with those blues eyes and dark hair and skin, but to me, the total adds up to thug, not young businessman.

EJ

Boy this color discussion is fun. So Mike, the mausoleum and Coni --

I would say that the decorations of the house just smack of Fina - cold, hard: winter colors. Nothing even remotely showing warmth or a sense of "home".

As for Coni, I think pink is supposed to symbolize softness, feminism, love. If I remember what roses are supposed to mean, a pink rose is remembrance - utter devotion. I'd say she fits that bill. Plus, though I don't care for the color myself, with her black hair, she rocks the color.

Lovin' my beautiful beanie! Thank you, Emilia!

R la O

Regina, get rid of the rock balls!!! I would probably stub my toes on those suckers daily.

EJ, I couldn't agree more: "the total adds up to thug, not young businessman."

R la O, awesome beanie!! Emilia you are amazing.

R la O, you look good in the beanie. You are soooo pretty, you'd look good in most anything. You are most welcome.

Thanks for the head swelling compliment, Sylvia!

Carlos, I forgot to tell you how much I loved the pictures you posted with your recap. Especially the last one of Panchita. Perfect!

Oh Carlos, I loved your recap! I laughed out loud at the title and enjoyed every single word. All of your wonderful lines have been quoted already so I can only offer my thanks and appreciation. As others have said, I've missed your recaps. Simply sublime.

I like the actress playing Pris. She was Laz's love interest in CS and is a favorite of mine going back to Guapos.

And the pictures were great but Panchita was perfect.

Gracias amigo.

Diana

Good morning everyone. It was a great weekend for me getting the opportunity to recap once again. I'm aglow basking in the warmth of all of your comments.

Mike, in La Madrastra, Gonzo actually did wear eyeliner in what I think was his best role ever.

I'm actually looking forward to the return of the Matilde that we met at the beginning of this show. Except for occasional unfortunate slips of the tongue, she has been almost cloyingly sweet lately. Maybe Carlos is bringing back Pris to reignite the piquant habeñero he fell in love with.

Amy, I'm so glad I was able to help provide a weekend free for you. I had a blast and it sounds like you took full advantage of it. I'm looking forward to your next recap.

Diana, I've been looking forward to this morning to see what you thought of the recap. I'm glad that you found it amusing.

Thanks for reminding us of who Pris is. I've seen her in a number of shows but I wasn't able to recall any specific one.

Thanks to everyone here for your warm reception of the recap. I just hope it was as enjoyable to read as it was to write.

Carlos

Thanks Emilia, but remember that in reality I am Inez-like. I wore my beanie to the Ute game on Saturday and my daughter's college girlfriends loved it! Of course once I told them it was intended to improve our understanding of telenovela plot lines they quickly turned away. No, that part didn't happen. My daughter had them laughing at David's TelenovelaBeanies.com and the two wedding fiascos (this re-telling from mi hija who doesn't even watch CME!) and we passed around the picture of Panchita (yes, I printed it all out to share with my daughter at half-time).
Utah is known for spreading the word. Just doing my part. Maybe not the same word. Speaking of which.... my word verification is litedinc. Any idea who that could be referring to?

R la O

Carlos - you deserve to bask the day away. You certainly enhanced all of our weekends.

I believe for men they call it Guyliner.

I still find Mati so irritating. To like her, one must embrace it. I actually started to do that back when she quipped "Who Died?" to Jero. That was hilarious and pegged just who she is... love her or not. Plus, we are all rooting for her against Icky Elvira.

Tonight / this week is looking exciting! Good thing Cheryl has her new beanie to get her through it all.

R la O

Amazing, fantastic recap Carlos. I too liked Alfo much better as Gardenia in MEPS. She's not hysterical enough for me in Cuando.

I'm soooooo freaking happy that Roberta has been busted by Panchita. Can't wait to see the anvil drop on this one.

Carlos: I can't wait to watch a TN that you will be recapping.

US!!! (Ultimas Semanas!!!) I'm sad. Question: My first TN was MEPS and I followed the actors: Lu and FC to STuD, then SN to CME so I had breaks in between. How do you guys switch gears going from the ending of one TN straight into the beginning of another? Watching and commenting on a TN for months, then add the intensity of US and the super intensity of a 2 hour final cap, and then the new one starts THE NEXT DAY!!! How do you guys do it?!

Another question--weird, I know. How many TN's have had Laura as the name of the heroine?

Robey

Carlos and Sylvia, thank you so much for your excellent recaps. I was once again in a hotel with no Spanish language tv and a slow internet connection, so I really needed my Caray fix. (Oye, Spanish is the second-most spoken language in America. CAN WE GET WITH IT, HOTEL PEOPLE???)

I've also really been enjoying everyone's comments on the Language of Clothes (also the name of a fascinating book by Alison Lurie, by the way.) I was particularly struck by the analysis of Augie's unseasonable sheepskin as evidence of a cold, cold heart. (I guess we must assume most of our heroines are quite, ah, warm-hearted, since they don't seem to require much insulation in that area!)

Robey- The only Laura I knew off-hand was the protagonist SN played in Montecristo. A quick Google search also found a 2002 Televisa tn called "La Verdad de Laura." I had never heard of it before.

As for how we go from the end of one tn to the beginning of another so quickly...well, addiction. Pure and simple. Got to have my fix. But I see how it could seem jarring going from the dramatic end of one world, to the dramatic beginning of another. I think that's why I appreciated those cross over ENDA monents they gave us a few weeks back. It made it seem like all these stories are actually happening in the same crazy universe.

Carlos- Have you thought about checking out Una Familia con Suerte? It's a comedy, with many months to go, and Melinama and Julie have been recapping it by themselves. I believe the replacements for both CME and Fuerza will be dramas.

Vivi: Being so immersed in these stories and these people, it's going to be hard for me to suddenly tune them out and get involved with another group of people and stories. I guess it takes practice. I'm going to miss this TN so much (just as I missed MEPS--I own it on DVD because of that). Not so much STuD, but I do miss Lu and FC--though SN is my favorite (of the main stars, that is). My all time fav is Alejandro Ruiz---just loved him as Jacinto.

Robey

Robey--I don't know how the recappers do it either--especially when I don't always know if I'm going to watch something until it's been on for a couple of weeks, and also, life gets in the way.

Like the workings of a combustion engine or a hard drive, I'm just happy it works and that recaps show up on CarayCaray with dogged, unfailing regularity.

Last but not least--lest we forget our Dear Doctor Dastardly and, in light of all these new characters introduced to distract us, let me bring you up to date.

I really like that a new telenovela starts up right after the big dramatic ending of the last one. If something I really liked ended and then I had nothing to replace it for weeks, there would be nothing to distract me from missing the old favorite characters.

It does take me a week or so to get into a new show, and sometimes it's hard to tell whether you're going to like something. Sometimes people sign up to recap with caveats..."I'll try this for a few weeks and see if I like it and want to stick with it"...and sometimes recappers start out on a show and eventually decide they really can't stand it and don't want to watch it anymore, so they resign from the recapping and someone else fills in or posts headers. It all works out. There are always at least a few people who want to discuss the show you're into.

Anyway, Robey...actually it's surprising how quickly you can shift to a new show mindset...and I really hope you'll join us for the next one, whatever it turns out to be!

Robey - Since this is my first telenovela I wouldn't know an answer to your Laura question except to remind you of General Hospital's Laura, as in Luke-n-Laura.

Re the next TN, please, not another "Llena de Amor" which, except for Fedra, was not something that I enjoyed. The whole premise of the fat chick victim was stale from episode 1. My two cents. But having been watching since "Juan Querendon", all in all, it's kind of refreshing to jump into a whole 'nother story.

As opposed to American soaps. Emilia used to watch "DOOL" aka Days of Our Lives (you know, like sands through the hourglass...) but found that if she missed it for weeks or months she could pick it right back up.

NOK: I didn't just mean recappers. I meant all the community. Recappers, commenters, lurkers. I find I miss the routine of tuning in, reading recaps and comments and commenting myself. But I think this TN will have me missing it for its own sake.

RLO: I didn't watch GH when L&L were in their heyday, though I've tuned into it off and on while they've been off and on.

I'm trying to figure out a bit of a TN I watched 15 years or so ago and all I remember was the heroine's name was Laura and I thought it was an historical, though after having watched these TN's take place in villages, I'm wondering if what I thought was historical was just regional costuming. Long shot finding out, I know.

Don't know if I'll tune into the new ones. I usually follow the actors and Lu, FC and SN are not in any--at least for now. I wonder if Alejandro Ruiz is in one of the new ones. Oh, I might follow the actor who plays Adri--I think she's very good.

But, Mike...LldA was so good, once we got past the stupid fat jokes phase! Actually I really considered jumping ship as a recapper on that one, but Valentino Lanús was doing so well comedically in that role, and I loved our intrepid policemen, so I stuck with it, and then it turned really good. Never did warm up to the protagonista, though, in thick or in thin. But it did get really funny.

Mike: Re: DAYS. I watch it. I watched it for a few years, years ago, but dropped it because of that problem of storylines going on forever (it took years to get Mike and Carrie together, I finally gave up before that happened). Since then I've tuned in off and on. I've now been watching since they brought back Carly two years ago. She's gone now, but there are other interesting characters. You might tell E that they have a new head writer and the storylines are supposed to be speeding up.

Robey Honey, are you going through Zeke withdrawals? Hopefully both he and SN will be in another TN soon. I would certainly watch.

You may be surprised that you can find that possibly historical TN by googling some key words. Just last week I was telling my husband about a short film I'd seen in my Intro to Theater class way back in 1977. I googled SHORT FILM NO DIALOGUE PRISONER ESCAPE and found it! (Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge if anyone wants to You Tube a fine 30 minutes... it's what we wish Zeke had been able to do when the rope was around his neck, like it is around this guy's).

I didn't get into GH, but I did spend my college years hearing "You look like Laura". I loved the Christopher Cross "Laura" song, and when I told my bf that I liked it, he said "You only like it cuz everyone tells you that you look like her". Jerk. I can't believe I married him. lol Going on 29 years now!

About DOOL dragging, have you ever tried reading the Mary Worth comic strip? OMG! I was following it when there was an upcoming wedding a few years ago and it was dragging on, so I quit reading, then glanced at it 6 months later and the gal was still trying on wedding dresses. Can't say our CME does that.

I am so excited for "Roberta no es su hija"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

R la O

Rosemsry La O you look fabulous in your beanie. Thanks, I've been basking all day.

Dona Gringuita, I was so excited when this show began to see Gardenia in it, wearing skin-tight jeans no less (which in retrospect should have been a tipoff... this is not Gardenia)... I had high hopes.

Robey, I can't recall any heroines named Laura, but I love the way Spanish speakers pronounce the name.

Blue Lass, we once stayed at a hotel in San Antonio, Texas that didn't have Univision... San Antonio for goodness sakes... por favor.

Vivi, I've not seen any full episodes of UFcS but I've seen the first few minutes o several and it looks as though Sergio Sendel is having a blast. Right now I'm only watching CME and La Hija del Mariachi (a real jewel).

Mike, Juan Querendón was one of my all time favorites. Fedra alone was reason enough to watch LldA, but don't forget Ilitia. Like Julia I almost jumped ship early on and then ended up recapping.

Carlos

Mike couldn't get into Llena because he generally slept through it!! He had a killer commute then and when he finally sat down after supper his eyes just slammed shut, poor fella.

Gonzo and the 3 D's: yes designated dopey dad, I also would add deeply dense dad, defitinely dumbass dad. There I feel better. I think Gozno is catering to Regina's desire to gild Roberta's deeply flawed character in her exuberance to turn her doubts into a strong love for this unloveable pseudo daughter. And is is a family genetics flaw when his beloved sister Constanza has gotten just a dopey? But maybe he isn't totally dopey as he invites German's wife to the wedding. Can't wait to see Roberta act up or out.

Oh so many fine snarky bits from all you CME'ers. Ray Bolger singing If I Only Had a Brain, thanks David. Thankless Skank, you're SO right, Lila. Rosemary LO, glad you have gotten a taste of the best of Doc Carlos, describing the Inferno awaiting Augie better than Dante could have done it. Definitely funnier with the balcony view! Elna June and Vivi, I am in giggles over your wardrobe dishing and dissing.

Carlos, I am glad you attracted lots of old friends when they saw that you had recapped. Like your experience in San Antonio, I could not believe that Socorro, NM nearest town ot Bosque del Apache had hotels that did not carry Univision. I am so greatful for your wonderful recap to keep me up to date. Now I am going to do some finger yoga so I can be ready for tonight's episode of Berta meets Mrs. German, Panchita remembers to tell someone that she saw Roberta and a Fina on the loose. I am hoping that the Priscila entrance will make Matilde take off her stupid head band or that someone will snatch if off and her head will burst open spilling out all of the silly thoughts and fatal gossip she holds behind that little piece of leather. Super Laz needs to get busy and not let Augie hide behind that godfatherly horse wreath. And please dear TN gods and goddesses spare me one more night free of the Maritatas trail of sniffles and tears for lost causes. See you all in a few hours.

Oh and Emilia I was the hit of the Bosque in your lovely red beanie. I had no less than 5 people ask me where I got it. I just smiled slyly and sayd a very good friend made it for me. They wjill have to find Caray Caray to know more than that.

R la O: I am in withdrawals. I actually missed him throughout StuD--and he was offed pretty near the beginning!!!

That "Owl Creek Bridge" show was an ep of Twilight Zone, I believe.

Carlos: So do I.

Robey

R La O: I also plug in searches like you do and have come up with what I was looking for in the passt. I'll try that. Just didn't think I'd recognize it even if I found it. I guess I was hoping that you all would say, "there's only been one in the history of Telenovela Land."

Robey

Robey, Miss Smartypants, that WAS a Twilight Zone episode. It is unique in that it was not made for Twilight Zone, but bought later to be aired by them. It won a Cannes Festival Best Film Award too.

Oh my goodness, you folks are hilarious! You have me totally cracking up here.

Going back to when telenovelas start and not knowing if we're going to like them...I truly did NOT like this one at first and it took me about four weeks to get into it. I thought for sure I was going to bail except that I adore Silvia Navarro and a few of the other actors (yes, Alejandro Ruiz is one of them). I'm SO GLAD I stuck with it. Not only is this one of my favorites but the commenting community has been simply amazing. Oh sad, sad day if I had given up on CME.

R la O: Re: the Twilight Zone ep. I thought the history about that ep was a little different from the usual eps. That was a great ep and a great show.

Sylvia: So sad about CME ending soon. One bright spot. All the meanies get theirs. After waiting months for SN's TN, I ended up missing the first nine eps--glad I did now since you all have talked about the horrible child abuse (though it also meant missing Nata's and Jero's first two meetings). If SN hadn't been in it and I'd seen those abuse eps, I probably would have dumped this one.
