Refugio Para el Amor #101 Tue 8/28/12 If Only God Would Give Me Some Clear Sign! Like Making A Large Deposit In My Name In A Swiss Bank* (*Woody Allen)

Well, God is certainly making Linares a clear sign...The Good Lord(or the Virgincita, take your pick) had the judge hand over a sentence which not only declares Claudio innocent but gives him 50% of the Torrelanda holdings, and then an additional 10% of Max's fortune as compensation for the pain and suffering, plus loss of income, that Claudio suffered for being unjustly incarcerated for 20 years. Claudio valiantly protests that all he wanted was to clear his name. But Barrerra reminds him that the judge's sentence can't be turned over. Score big for the Good folks. But we know this won't be the end of their suffering—our raging Roselena will certainly have more evil in store for our innocent lambs. But why go there? Let's sit back and enjoy the trial and seeing eggs (and the egos) go splat in the highfalutin' Torreslanda facade.

THE BUILDUP—NEW TONIGHT

Luciana trots off to the Funeral Home to phone Papa Linares and find out how the trial is going. He lets her know that all the evidence in his favor has been presented and the judge is going to “revisar” (study) the submitted documents and then ask the jury to hand over their decision. Luciana also mentions that she has “datos” (contact information) for the people who own the big house in Het Het but they'll talk about that later.

Luciana seems quietly happy. Poor befuddled Rodrigo is fuming! Surely they can't find Claudio Linares innocent, he blusters. No, he's guilty!” But Pato, now recovered enough to no longer need a collar, clearly has doubts-- yet another indication he's the rational brother in the family.

Back at the Torreslanda offices, Oscar has doubts as well. Linares' evidence is pretty convincing in his opinion. Max , looking murderous, give Rodrigo one of the evidential letters to look over and heads for home, while also making a call to his favorite Rage Release, the lamentable Vicky. She'd like to see him but he's “dealing with a serious problem” and isn't available. And when she gently bleats “Can I help you in some way?” he scornfully blows her off. Making it clear that her only usefulness is in the bedroom.

So our Max eventually heads for another bedroom, the very chilly palatial one he shares with Roselena. She asks if he wants something to eat, dismisses his worries about the trial with an “if you pulled it off before, why can't you now?” quip, and then he has the effrontery to lean in for a kiss. She puts down her book, turns away, looks at his hand on her shoulder like it's a tarantula, and effectively puts an end to any connubial communication. No relief for you tonight Max—no time for a quickie with Vicky and Roselena off-limits as usual. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

NEXT DAY IN THE COURTROOM

Rod is still prattling on about Linares being a “farsante” (fraud, fake) while Pato wisely counsels him not to get ahead of himself and assume that Linares is going down. Max, just outside, is trying to persuade Oscar to offer the judge a bribe, a suggestion that Oscar wisely rejects. (He did poll the jurors to see who's bribable and four of them seemed to be.) The session begins when suddenly the doors bang open, Roselena charges in like a Valkyrie, vowing to be a witness for her husband. The judge, once he gets over his surprise, coldly informs her that she's not a listed witness and she needs to sit down (and be quiet!). Which, after some more blather about the Torreslandas being a very United Family and shrieking at Claudio that “he's not going to get away with this!”, she finally does. Definitely ramping up the crazy is our Roselena.

The Judge then pronounces that after consultation with handwriting experts and reviewing the video evidence, it's clear that Linares' signature was forged. Oscar jumps up and yelps that there's still no proof that the forger wasn't Linares' accomplice. Claudio stands and quietly addresses the jury. “Why would I reopen the case if I were not innocent? I have nothing to gain financially. I've already paid for this supposed crime with 20 years imprisonment. All I want to do here is regain my integrity, my reputation.

Rod, still as crazy as his mom (who actually knows Max framed Claudio) still mutters that Linares is a vile opportunist. Pato wisely observes that what Claudio is saying seems to be perfectly rational.

Barrera jumps up at this point and concedes that while Gaitan (Oscar) proved that Pedro Campos (the forger) worked at Torreslanda, there's nothing to prove that Claudio knew him. Oscar then requests a 24 hour recess to find that “proof” which is promptly denied. However the judge notes that while it's clear Linares didn't sign the bank transfer, the court really needs to see the man in the video. Unfortunately Claudio and his team have been unable to find him. So the jury starts to leave to mull over their verdict. But wait!....

UN MOMENTO!

Yes, another dramatic entrance. This time the former judge in the case 20 years ago charges in, waving a document and saying “I have evidence that will change everything.” Sure enough, he's got a notarized signed confession to the forgery by Pedro Campos. That does it. The Judge advises the jury that the court owes it to Linares to accept this confession and sends them off to reach a decision. The Linares side of the courtroom is all smiles. On the Torreslanda side, Oscar looks worried, Pato thoughtful, and the rest of the crew enraged.

Oscar mutters that no matter what, they can appeal. Max says forget it. Roselena's still fuming. Pato reminds her that Claudio has proved his innocence. She takes umbrage at that rational, fair reaction and accuses him of disloyalty.

The jury returns. The Judge orders silence. After a portentous and lengthy pause, the jury foreman announces that they declare Claudio Linares Not Guilty. The Judge laments that there is no way to repair the damage and amend the loss and injustice of the past. Claudio graciously acknowledges that this public recognition of his innocence is enough. (mutterings and inappropriate yelps and strident disagreement from the Torreslanda side.) The Judge thinks otherwise. He orders Max to cede 50% of all the firm's assets to Linares. And an addition 10% of his total fortune to pay for the damage and loss of income to Linares during his 20 years imprisonment. And all this is to be carried out within 72 hours.

Claudio is a bit perplexed since all he wanted was restoration of his reputation, but Barrera calmly reminds him that the Judge's decision is irrefutable. So while we're all cheering, the Torrelanda crew (other than Pato) is basically jumping up and down and having a Family Adult Tantrum.

Oscar, Roselena and Max charge through the reporters to their limousine, muttering “sin commentario” (no comment) and rush away. Rod and Pato leave quietly through the back door. Claudio and his team walk out to a gaggle of reporters and Linares happily announces that finally justice is done and they can write the story with the biggest headline possible (ocho columnas) if they like.

Hooray for our side! We know there'll be more storms to come, but for now we can bask, along with Claudio, in seeing justice done and the bad guys humiliated.

OTHER INCIDENTALS

MAGDA makes a visit to Don Aquiles to give him what-for for bothering Luciana. He huffily maintains that he's just trying to help her out after she was seduced and dumped by some city boy. Magda corrects him....that baby was conceived in love. He tells her to butt out and mind her own daughter if she can. She assures him that while he believes he's respected in the village, he's not!Only feared. Call it a draw. These two old adversaries know how to get to each other. But somehow I like the idea of one day Madga and Don Aquiles getting back together after he realizes Violeta is his daughter.

GALA continues in her curious crusade to win back Rod's love by behaving in the bitchiest, most toxic manner possible. Her latest outrage—ordering (and I do mean ORDERING) the architect who previously worked on the apartment to throw out all Rod's exercise equipment and transform the room into a posh baby haven with all the most expensive imported furniture and décor possible—including imported paint ! The architect is dubious and comes in for a tongue-lashing. Julie ,on the other hand, is ready to ask him to stay for a glass of bubbly (and who knows what else?). An offer he wisely declines. Gala then laments that for some strange reason, Rod is not treating her with the coddling, affection and sexual passion she so richly deserves as his wife. Practical Julies says Screw that. You've got your hands on the money. Forget about love! Nonetheless, as Gala continues to sulk, Mom advises her to pretty herself up for her husband's return from court, and wipe that surly look off the face. Julie with champagne and Gala with a cuppa, they plot their next inroad into the Torreslanda fortune.

VIOLETA, Ofelia and Serena are lamenting their dreary job prospects and wondering how to get out of the morass of working in the Inferno. If only they could come up with their own business like the boys are doing with their Basket Tacos. This career confab is interrupted by Creepy Marcial who is now stalking with a big box of chocolates, and more whining about his abysmal relationship with the mother of his children. He ups the ante by saying that when his investigation of the Inferno ends, he may be transferred far away.  Violeta tearfully acknowledges that she really does lurrve him (Why, Vi, why!?) and they exchange a gag-inducing kiss. Get this guy outta here and bring on the nice bartender, please!

PADRE HONESTO stops by the mansion to see how his demented parishioner Roselena is doing and also to get Luciana's phone number in San Francisco el Alto. When whining, whinging Matilde laments that Luci is also pregnant with Rod's baby and had he known, he would never have married Gala, the good Padre asks her point blank why she didn't tell Rodrigo. “Because mi niña forbade it,” she sniffles. A super gong for our sniveling Matilde, please! Padre Honesto is a little kinder though. He simply looks baffled. Of course Brigida is listening behind doors but this bit of info is something Gala already has.

ARICHE and LUCIANA are at the community showroom, hearing about the wonderful response to Luciana's pottery and the expectation of many orders coming in from abroad. When the gal in charge offers to make up some business cards for Luciana (tarjetas de presentación) Luci says she'll have to give the phone number as that of the funeral home. They have a chuckle about the possible reaction of the prospective buyers and Ariche adds that maybe they should put in something about the ghost that haunts the place.

RESUMEN

Soo....Luciana and especially Claudio's fortunes are on the rise. She's still grieving the loss of Rodrigo; he still misses his adored Aurora, but career-wise, both their prospects are looking good indeed.

The barrio girls are still stuck in relative poverty and no-win jobs but they're looking for a way out.

The Torreslandas, with the exception of Pato and Jana, are beginning their downhill slide. Max has lost a good chunk of his income (and reputation); Roselena's becoming increasingly unhinged and Rod's about to get another slap in the face when he finds out his gym is being dismantled. Stay tuned for more drama.

  3. El sol brilla para todos = We are all equal in the eyes of the Lord. (a proverb that runs contrary to Gala and Roselena's notion that all folks who are not of their “class” are subaltern and unworthy of respect)

I love it that the writers are giving us some events to celebrate, in the midst of all the sadness and misery. Hooray for Claudio and for truth and justice to prevail over lies and fraud for once.

Great episode great recap!

Do you all catch that Rosa loca was reading about Mother Theresa (Madre Teresa
de Calcutta) while in the bed. Guess she is really, really trying hard to emulate her. Ha Ha. Oh gracious, that was some slick writing for this sicko character.

Poor Rod dumb as a rock. At least Pato has some cojones.

Yay! Awesome recap Judy, and awesome verdict by the judge. I think that both judges felt CL was screwed over the first time. I don't know how the judge from 20 years ago got that confession and I don't care. I just wish Campos had also admitted that Max put him up to it, but I guess they're saving that bombshell for another day. For now, losing 50% of the biz and 10% of their personal fortune is a good start for punishing Max and Rosa.

Anon 9:10- Yes, I did see she was reading a book on Mother Teresa and got a huge laugh out of it. I think the director did it on purpose. :)

Yessss...sorry I forgot to put that in, but glad you all caught it. How she can be so pious and at the same time treat people so horribly baffles me. And she knows Max framed Claudio the first time around and yet tore into him like Linares was the guilty one.

Thanks for your recap Judy. I love how you put the great part right up front so we can celebrate this victory.

I'm glad Oscar did not succumb to Max's bribe. When he realizes how bad Max is he'll be almost as mortified as the TL kids will be.

@Karen...I'm wondering how much longer it will take for the Torrelanda "kids" to realize what their parents are. So far, Pato and Jana seem to have some glimmers, but Rodrigo is still out to lunch. It's going to come as quite a shock that the United Family is rotten to the core.

Great read, Judy! I've been roaming the Rockies much of the summer so I am glad to get back in time to see some justice beginning for the long suffering Linares. Now if his daughter will stop being so bull headed so we can see idiot Rod's sense of perfection in his family fall to the ground. I think the bitchslapping he gets from Gala will be fun.

Great read, Judy.

Don't get me started about the comparison of Rosaelena and Mother Teresa.

I can't wait to see Julie and Gala's faces when they find out the verdict and the penalty. That will be hilarious.

Did any one notice Patricio shaking his left leg in court. I thought he was about to get out his chair.
And poor Aldo cracking up and dying of laughter fighting desperately to hold it back when Rosealena carried on with her ANTICS in court today????

I almost died laughing just watching the character's EXPRESSIONS in the background when the Judge read the sentence!
LOLOLOL!!!!!

La Loca was reading that book earlier on which made me laugh at the time. She certainly isn't learning anything from it.

I loath Don Asshat and think there would be nothing worse then Vi finding out she is his daughter and Magda ending up with him. He shows her virtually no respect (that appear only reserved for Luci lately) nor for any other woman. He has made me sick from the beginning.

Rod made his bed and now he has to sleep in it and he gets no pity from me. He is so obviously Rosa's spawn, same unreasonable hate and vindictiveness, so little willingness to listen to any one who says something he doesn't agree with. Wonder what he is going to do when he no longer has him gym to take out his frustrations on. Gagme was right with one thing when she told Julie she couldn't imagine the drama if the case went against the TL's.

I can hardly wait to see the loss of fortuna and half the business post mortum. Dinner at the big house tonight is going to be worse than ever.

I really wish that Claudio had made a little speech saying that he didn't want the business or the money that they would all go to his daughter and then walk out of court leaving Rosa and the rest with jaws on the ground. Can't you see the head scratching on the part of the young ones who know nothing and the spitting fury on La Loca's face.

The Mexican judicial system is SURE DIFFERENT from that of the US.
Because CERTAINLY for an outburst such as that from that TORRESLANDA CAMP surely they would and should be thrown in jail for CONTEMPT OF COURT!

This judge was certainly tolerant of their antics ~ LOL!!!

Decie girl, that would have been fabulous!

So glad that you had the recap for this hoot of an episode Judy. It was perfect and with all the fussing, helped so much with us folks who are language challenged. Gracias, amiga.

"Family Adult Tantrum." You are not kidding. If I was the judge, I would have given CL the judgement if only to get back at the obvious "Mean Kids". No Popsicles for you guys. Time out in the corner. Bunch of adult spoiled brats. I'll give Oscar a bit of a pass, but he should get his sorry butt out of that company.

As for our dear Pato--woohoo, neck brace is off. Looking good! I thought I saw a twitch as well as he sat there, wasn't sure, but I"m guessing he was ready to move to the CL side, or at the least get away from his embarrassing family. Where's the nearest hole to crawl into when you need one. I see him breaking with this clan soon.

Max's body language was hysterical in the courtroom. And Rosa's bursting in was just stoopid. She knows full well CL is innocent, but in the family delusional way, has convinced herself he is the bad guy to justify what SHE did.

As for the big reveal with CL as Luci's dad, so that didn't come out and we have to endure Rod's continued rantings on him "hugging" Luci. Anyone wonder if he finds out about the bebe, he'll think it's CL's?? I mean, this guy is not firing on all cylinders, hero or no, so I wouldn't put it past him.

As for Gagme, oh, bad timing!!! After what happened and she's messing with his man-cave. Bad move. Still amazes me she really thought Rod would be all doting husband with her. We should open a clinic to treat all these delusional people. I do want to see The Champagne Queen's reaction when she finds out half the money is gone. I'm popping popcorn for that one.

Mati---" because she forbade me"?????? Just uncalled for. Poor Padre.

Some of the side stuff- meh. But Vi, really??? That guy always looks like he just sucked lemons. What does she see in him? If you're lucky you will never see him again. Move on!!!

Can't wait for tonight. But also, now I'm worried for CL. I keep remembering he wanted to make Luci his heir and now he's got 1/2 of the company. There's this anvil moving in....

Good morning everybody....glad you all enjoyed the courtroom antics of the Torreslanda family. It was both funny and shocking. Have no idea if such behavior would actually be tolerated in a Mexico courtroom, but I do know, from having lived in Europe, that a lot of standards and rules we take for granted here, aren't the same elsewhere.

CHERYL...good to see you back. Bet your summer was fabulous but we've missed you.

DECIE GIRL...For some reason, I think Don Aquiles is destined for redemption. And Magda with her straight talk, take no prisoners style is the person who's going to set him straight and lead him to recognize (and repent of) all his "soberbia".

These stories all have a Biblical structure...Creation, Fall, Repentance and Redemption. Aquiles has lorded it over the townsfolk all his life and felt entitled to anything he wanted. He's already had one Fall in the police action and threat of jail when he tried to kidnap Luciana. I'll be interested to see what else the writers have in store for him. The fact that they're playing comical music during his scenes now just makes me think he's going to end up as one of the good guys.

But...I could be wrong!

ANONYMOUS...Didn't notice Pato shaking his left leg (the downside of taking notes) but that's exciting news. I am soooo ready to see him making great strides in his rehabilitation.

UA...I'd love "to get you started" on the differences between Roselena and Mother Theresa! It would be a wonderful rant I'm sure.

If the good lady had been reading a bodice ripper instead of Mother Teresa, she might have given her husband a warmer welcome in bed.

DAISYNJAY...Ah, you've solved the mystery. Marcial's mouth has always bothered me...and have you noticed how he seems to over-enunciate everything he says? It's that lemon-sucking boca!

Gala and Roselena are not only delusional, they have this Entitlement thing going on. The fact that Gala is Rod's legal wife makes her think she's entitled to his affection, passion and indulgence of any whim, regardless of how she treats him and how she uses him. Doesn't work that way.

And for some reason, Roselena feels entitled to treat all people like dirt, including her supposedly "beloved" family.

Not only was the vindication utterly satisfying and joyous, so was your spectacular recap Judy! So detailed, so juicy - yet replete with amazing embedded vocabulary that adds just the right touch to your enviable zest:"
seeing eggs (and the egos) go splat in the highfalutin' Torreslanda facade". Marvelous!

Your dichos were my favorite but I also enjoyed: "his favorite Rage Release" and "they plot their next inroad into the Torreslanda fortune". I loved seeing many of my favorite English words: "portentous and "strident" among others.

Anon and Vivi, I loved Rosa reading about Mother Theresa. I suspect she ingests the information and then does just the opposite. No similarities there! :)

Sweet victory for Claudio indeed. I savored every moment!

Judy, I have watched Magda and Don Aquiles scenes together quite closely. Magda's usual stance is arms folded, usually looking away from him, with her back turned or to the side. Their face to face discussion last night was interesting. I had wondered if there was any chance of their reuniting which resurfaced after I read: "But somehow I like the idea of one day Madga and Don Aquiles getting back together after he realizes Violeta is his daughter". I'm not sure he can completely atone for kidnapping Luci, but I think there is a kinder side emerging and he might be a fairly good father come lately for Vio.

Thanks again Judy. This was fabulous.

Diana

JudyB, awesome awesome humor all throughout...
here are some things i noticed...
when Luci was calling Claudio, he mentioned to her that Rod and Pato were there.. Luci says sure, they were supporting their father, as i should do too. Claudio tells her he did not want her there, it was a bit rough what was going on there.

As RosaElena lays in bed, she is reading a book about/by Mother Theresa of Calcutta.. (LOL!)

When the decision by the jury is read and Claudio tells the judge he only wanted to clear his name, RosaE shouts 'how cursi!!' LOL!

Also the 10% the judge ordered Max to give Claudio out of his own fortune, he said it was because of his FALSE ACCUSATIONS.

And as RosaE barged into the court room and was ordered to sit down quietly by the judge, she kept barging things at Claudio and he was about to stand and respond but Barrera and Melissa held him back reminding him that THAT was exactly what she was going after, to provoke him into making a mistake.
more to come...

Great recap, Judy. Especially loved your confidential side comments, like you are a kind of quiet sports announcer like they have for golf games, "GALA continues in her curious crusade to win back Rod's love by behaving in the bitchiest, most toxic manner possible" and "mutterings and inappropriate yelps and strident disagreement from the Torreslanda side." So funny.
And your timing is brilliant, you had me on the edge of my seat even though I actually saw the episode.

Good morning Diana, SuperMarta and Emarie.

DIANA, I see you have the same soft heart that I do. I guess, because Magda and Aquiles DO have a child together (and therefore a history of youthful passion, however brief and irresponsible)) I'd like to see them mend their differences, heal their hurts (well Madga's anyway) and reunite as a mature couple. If I'm a sentimental old fool, so be it!

MARTA-- Yes, that "que cursi!" really got to me. That's why I put it in the vocabulary. Roselena is incapable of understanding true integrity and generosity of spirit, in spite of her reading of Mother Teresa.

EMARIE - You've got me smiling with that "quiet sports announcer like they have for golf games". My husband is a dedicated Golf Channel watcher and they do have some very quiet announcers indeed. I'll take that as a high compliment (imagining myself with a Scottish accent right now).

As Max was barking at Oscar about what he accomplished in trying to bribe the jury and the judge, Oscar told him the judge is one of the most straight judges, would never accept a bribe, and that he could only even talk about it to four of the jurys, but Oscar was questioning why the need for bribing if 'WE BOTH KNOW YOU ARE INNOCENT!' to which Max responds 'there is no doubt about that'... (desperate wounded dog holding his own lawyer in the blind until the last second)
HOwever when they had sat down to analyze Linare's evidence, Rod said 'then Linares could be innocent' and Max responded 'there is a 50 50 chance he will be'.
Rod then wonders if Linares is innocent, then they will have to do whatever the judge says (the sentence). Max says 'we will see'.

In bed RosaE tells Max Linares will never have the power of the T-L's. Max smirks and tells her 'if he were to win the hearing/trial, he would recover it'. That is when RosaE says 'if you did it before (accuse/nail Linares) you can do it again now that you are SO powerful' .(LOVED your tarantula comment, JudyB, you nailed that!)

The morning of the sentence Rod is still in la-la land saying Linares will be found guilty as before, Pato says we need to wait to see what the peritos (spanish for experts, has only 1 r)

loved it when RosaE barks she can't believe such injustice, Pato tells RosaE that Linares proved his innocence, even the real guilty guy confessed... RosaE barks at Pato saying he seems more a Linares than a TL, and Pato calmly rebuttes 'No, mama! what is happening is i have been discovering things now that i ignored before'... (seems RosaE's house of cards and blindfonds on her sons is falling fast, at least on the Pato side) and Rodrigo as blind as ever... STOOPID...
i really hope now that he doesn't have his gym equipment he asks Gala if he can use her as his new punchbag.

ROFLOL as Judge asks Max to give Claudio 50% of the TL empire, RosaE barks 'it is against the Constitution!! where are the laws in this country??' ROFLOL!!
(meanwhile Julie is toasting for 'everything will turn out perfect, cheers!!' LOL!)

The 10% of Max's fortune was granted to Claudio 'as payment for damages caused to Claudio Linares for a FALSE ACCUSATION...'

Claudio does not want the money, but Barrera is right 'we can't ask the Judge to not do his job!!'(the sentence must be fair and square)

Pato is right in previews 'tough times are coming to the TL's'.

DecieGirl,
you are so right in..
'Dinner at the big house tonight is going to be worse than ever.'
they all better wear protective helmets, Rosa will be mad for a food fight. Get ready for lots of stares and killer laser eyes going back and forth.

thanks for the dichos!
Tarde o temprano la verdad sale a la luz. = sooner or later The truth will come to the light.
Las mentiras tienen las patas cortas. (lies have short legs, meaning lies don't last long)
El sol brilla para todos = We are all equal in the eyes of the Lord.

Thanks SUPERMARTA for catching that misspelling of "peritos"...will correct that right now!

Judy- wonderful, fantastic recap. I too was on the edge of my seat reading your recap and I watched the epi.

I didn't catch the Mother Teresa book, lol. All I saw was Calcutta. She sure doesn't emulate that book does she? She may seem pious, but we know she really isn't.

I'm with you Judy bout Don A. I think he too is on the road to redemption and I am with you too about Magda and he getting together in the end. I wish they would, they are so great together, lol. He never knew that Vio is his. I remember in the beginning of this TN that Magda told Paz that the father never knew she had Vio. Can't wait till he finds out. I love the way he uses her full name when he is trying to get a point across to her, Magdalena.

Vivi- That Judge from 20 years ago. Remember Oscar went to see him before the trial started? Did Oscar try to bribe him, or insinuate a bribe? It surprised me when he came to court with Pedro Campos' confession. I thought he was firmly in the Torreslanda camp.

I loved the verdict too. Yay, for Claudio, but now this does put him in danger. We all know what Max is capable of, never mind la loca.

DaisynJay- Can't wait to see the look on the Champagne Queen's face when she hears the verdict. Never mind Gagme me. I wonder if the architect will go to Dead To Me with the changes to his man cave. He was very reluctant to make ANY changes.

Yeah, why does Gagme feel she Dead To Me owes her love and affection? Dead to Me flat out told her he was only marrying her to give the baby a name. I guess she feels she can "change" him. I can't see it. If Gagme was the last woman on Earth he still wouldn't want her.

I am digusted with Mati. I wish she would tell, but then we wouldn't have this TN. She is the keeper of all the secrets, especially where her nina is concerned. I want to know all the past stuff with la loca. We got to see the "reasons" with Aurora, I wish we could see the stuff from before that. Like what happened in her childhood.

I love the contrast in Dead To Me's two women Gagme and Luci. Not that Gagme is his woman, so to speak. Gagme is all about the plotting and planning and snaring of Dead To Me, and so unhappy and never satisfied. Luci, on the other hand, is all about love, being happy, (even though she doesn't have her man), enjoying the simple things in life and making herself a good life. Dead to Me never should have forgotten how wonderful she is. Even though deep down he can't forget.

I am liking Pato more and more. I too thought he might go over to the Linares side. His brain is working so wonderfully, he'll have figured out what's going on soon, I think.

Madelaine- Yes. There was much talk of the judge in the beginning, and I think both sides mentioned that he's not above bribes. It might have even been implied that he accepted a bribe 20 years ago. But CL and Barerra kept trying to get a meeting with him, and he finally did meet with them. In that conversation, he definitely seemed to have regrets about what happened 20 years ago, without admitting he did anything wrong. He came across as someone with a conscience, and I got the feeling that now that he's retired he had less to lose if his original ruling was overturned and didn't mind it so much. Clearly when he spoke to the current judge when he brought in the evidence he expressed a desire to right a great injustice that had been done to CL.

MADELAINE and VIVI...I must have missed those early episodes...have we ever seen the judge before? Or just heard about him? Anyway, that was a wonderfully dramatic end to the trial and I guess we must assume the former judge is the one who tracked down Pedro Campos and got him to sign the notarized confession. Those prayers to the Virgencita by Luci and Paz are bearing fruit.

Judy- Yes. We saw him when he finally met with the CL team to discuss reopening the case. We also saw Oscar meet with him.

Oh, Judy, I forgot one last thing. I think it is the Virgincita too, who is helping the Linares family side. I think that Luci and Paz and Magda have said so many prayers for Claudio, I think the Virgincita listens everytime they make a request.

Vivi- thank you. I couldn't remember exactly what Oscar said to the Judge when he met with him.

Thanks Vivi. He was "all new" to me, although I've seen him in other telenovelas.

Madelaine...definitely the Virgencita is on the case, as Marta once said. A lot of candles being lit and prayers wafting up like incense in this one.

Interesting that while Paz and Luci have the tender Virgen, Roselena prays in front of a suffering, crucified, bloody Christ. (A hint of her sadistic tendencies?)

wow, what an interesting point! praying to the 'morenita' virgin vs praying to a bloody christ... yes sometimes when the 'Jacinto-Flores' family prays it seems we are watching an episode of 'la rosa de Guadalupe'... good analogy.

I think in regards to the former judge, Max and/or Oscar found out that Linares was trying to contact/interview with the former judge so they went there to ask the old judge not to do anything for CL/Barrera, or maybe even to stop the proceedings in the new hearing... whereas the CL/Barrera team were explaining to the judge why they were bringing it up again and that they did not blame him.

The problem is that Rosa is praying to someone whom she does not know (and is no longer on a cross). Her prayers are empty and fall flat.

I cannot help but wonder how much better things would be for Luci if she were actually praying to God/Jesus rather than Mary... who, by the way is no longer a virgin.

It is worth noting, however, that Rosa's prayers are filled with panic & crazy rage while Luci's prayers are filled with peace which only comes from above. Again, she knows Him while Rosa does not.

Also, the difference between Luci & Gagme has an awful lot to do with the type of mother's they were given. I cannot imagine who I would be if life had handed me Julie as a mother! Ugh...

NOLEGIRL...Well, it's possible you'd be the same great gal you are now. Not ALL children of dreadful mothers turn out to be dreadful themselves. Some are so determined not to repeat the pain and neglect of the past that they become exceptionally caring and compassionate towards others.

Research has shown that even in families where both parents are schizophrenic and/or alcoholic, about a third of their offspring turn out to be not just "normal" but exceptional in their ability to achieve and to empathize and care for others.

As a Protestant, I have sometimes been puzzled by the reverence of the Virgin Mary as intercessor, but-- especially in macho cultures where men have (sometimes brutally) dominated for a long time-- I can see how people would connect to the compassionate nature of God or Christ through the persona of Mary.

And I have been in support groups where women abused by their fathers growing up, simply could not visualize God as "father" so they needed a feminine notion of Jehovah.

Regardless of the images, I am going to trust, whether in telenovelas or in life, that we are all praying to the same ineffable God...a God who is simply too great to be encompassed by the human intellect.

Simply masterful Judy B., and very interesting obso about the objects of prayer.
Vicki, "gently bleats," so sad.
Julie, "what's love got to do with it?" to Gala, ha.
Dramatic courtroom stuff even if we can't put a label on this proceeding.
Best was Rosa marching right up and getting in the jury's face with her loca self.
I think Oscar needs to go back to law school to work on his "game face." He keeps slapping his hand to his forehead.
Thanks so much Judy B., and for vocab/dichos too.
Clara

You're most welcome, CLARA.

I guess Oscar does need to work on his game face, but I love that he has not been corrupted yet by working with Max, and held his ground when being asked to offer bribes, by simply noting that he could lose his license. Indeed. Not that Max would care. He'd just get another lawyer.

I hope the fact that Oscar DOES have a spine, as well as Melissa, will help Connie stiffen hers a bit. She still cuts wicked Roselena way too much slack in the name of sisterhood.

Judy - you are correct, many folks do break the cycle of insanity and rise above their raising... obviously Gala is in the 2/3 who did not. Sad...

And yes, i too struggle with Mary as intercessor, but not as much anymore. I married a Mexican and am now very used to my in-laws loving them some Mary (as do I, by the way). But, we do indeed love the same God.

Exactly NOLEGIRL...Just as we have so much to learn from other cultures, I believe we are also enriched by an understanding of the different ways people worship and connect to the Creator.

My high school chemistry teacher (a professor at CalTech before her husband got transferred to the Midwest) thought of God as the first electron. I can't quite cosy up to that image, but it worked for her!

VIVA!!! Judy B. You were lucky to get last night's show. Great recap.

Loved your line---Lets sit back and enjoy the trial and seing eggs [and the egos] go splat in the highfalutin' Torreslanda facade.

Also---No relief for you tonight Max-no time for a quickie with Vicky and Roselena off-limits as usual.

Rosa el loca and mother Teresa QUE???

creation,fall,repentance and redemption--yes, I hadn't thought of that.

The united family is rotten to the core---well, most of them.

Urban---Yeah, Gala and Julie's money just diminished a litte.

Annamous 5:21 -- Yes, I too was waiting for a contempt of court on the Torreslandas but it never came.

dece Girl--Would you like to have dinner at the Torreslanda house tonight?

Madelaine---ITA-It must have been Luci's prayers that the former judge was able to get Pedro's confession.

Claudio better get thoes papers ofer to Lucy to sign fast. Anvils are waiting to fall. Max will be out of control now.
the gringo

Hola GRINGO...thanks for your careful read and response to both the recap and the comments. In real life,I imagine that you are a very thoughtful listener.

Decie Girl might be able to handle dinner at the Torreslanda's tonight but I think I would get heartburn! The tension and rage would really jangle my nerves.

Sign me up for a nice relaxed dinner of frijoles y arroz at the peaceful Paz residence instead.

Oh, and I have to admit the structure of Creation- Fall -Repentance-Restoration (Redemption) was mentioned in church Sunday and I suddenly thought of how it played into the way these telenovelas, so full of Christian symbolism and morality lessons, are written. I doubt the pastor would have been happy with my segue into these sizzling dramas but that's right where my mind went.

Judy- Invite your pastor over to watch. I'm sure he'd see the teaching tool potential and approve of your incorporating his sermon into your recap. At least, I approve. :)

Judy, great recap! And what thoughtful and observant comments have been made today, so there is not a lot to add.

BUT.... Claudio better buy that house in Het Het and get there pronto. Bubbles (aka Julie) will be all over him. After all he now has a good chunk of her fortuna. This of course will be fun to watch, there is no way he would ever have anything to do with her especially after what she did to Luci.

Rosemary Primera

All novelas that i have ever seen have the redemption theme usually the dolt of a galan in the forefront. I do think if Don A were to suddenly be redeemed i would no more believe it than I would if Rosa was. Don A's attempts at being nicer are strictly reserved for Luci. He still treats all the other women like something he stepped on.

Max wasn't interested in Vicki last night. She is the one who called him and he blew her off only to go to bed with his much loved iceberg.

I still find it interesting that the judge was able to find Campos while Claudio's team could not. Max knew how to get in touch with him but even he may not have known where he was and i doubt if he told the original judge.

Thinking about those previews of Pato talking to Rod but i don't think he is going to tell him about Luci. She begged him not to and while he didn't agree to it I don't think he would do anything that might cause Luci to have more pain. In any event the Dumbass will probably make some stupid statement about Claudio so that bomb must wait for another day. I do wish Melissa would have a little sit down with Pato and tell him what she knows but then again she is now persona no grata with the rest of the TL's.

Judy I so agree with what you said about redemption and I am with Vivi there too. I think your pastor would so enjoy this TN.

Ya know I have been thinking of the way Luci prays and Rosa with the bloodied Christ on the Cross, and I really think, this is MOHO, that Rosa equates herself with Christ and suffering. Really she thinks she is "suffering" like He did. She doesn't have a clue.

Hadn't thought of that angle, MADELAINE, but Roselena is so self-involved, I'm sure she does think she's suffering. And no one else is suffering like her sainted self.

ROSEMARY PRIMERA--Love your nickname for Julie. "Bubbles" really fits her. Sounds like a cheesy nightclub hatcheck girl. I'm sure Claudio could fend her off though. Even with his gentlemanly demeanor, he's pretty tough when he needs to be.

DECIE GIRL--You make a good point about Aquiles only being good to Luciana so far. But one has to start somewhere on the road to redemption. Baby steps, baby steps. I'm still holding out hope for him.

Alas, you may also be right about Pato not actually spilling the beans. The writers love to tease us with these juicy previews and then it all comes to naught.

VIVI...LOL...He's pretty young so he might not be too ruffled by my telenovela wool-gathering. Not going to bring it up though!

Great recap Judy. Finally vindication of the initial injustice to the Linares. Can't wait for the other two, i.e. Aurora's and Luciana's. I would feel like I won the lotteria. Now about the Mother Teresa book. I suppose the hypocrite Rosalena is trying to be like her. The nerve of that woman. Mother Teresa, the Saint of the Poorest of the Poor. and yet La Loca doesn't want her community sullied by the taco vendors. I would imagine her Statue with a veil(to cover her nose) and her hand is holding a bottle of hand sanitizer and bieng pushed in a barrio procession(reminiscent of St. Mary Magdalene with a bottle of perfume.)

What a wonderful image of our dreadful Roselena...a plaster "Saint" clutching a hand sanitizer. Of course, given how often she runs her fingers over the furniture, checking for dust, I guess she would need to wash her hands a lot...even if she weren't neurotic. Good one VIDA2.

Talking about Rosa and her suffering, back aways Oscar was talking to Cony and he said Rosa liked to suffer. If she wasn't suffering she wasn't happy. Truer words were never spoken. She has taken being a misunderstood, abused martyr to new heights.

I'd forgotten that, DECIE GIRL, but now I do remember that conversation. And I imagine that's the first of many conversations Oscar is going to have to have with Connie before she can let go of keeping her sister in swaddling clothes.

Aldo may have made some questionable decisions but here he showed he got his intelligence from his mother rather than his aunt: As they were leaving the courtroom and the media was going after Max, Aldo ran off to the side and down the stairs. Ran! I laughed. Good for Aldo for getting the heck outta there.

How pissed off is Gala going to be when she finds out all that money is going to CL, and by inheritance, Luciana? Can't wait to hear that conversation. And why would she hire an architect to decorate a baby room? Architects don't know squat about interiors, especially frou frou decorating jobs like she's going to want to do to that room. Assuming Rod still has money. HA! Try Ikea ladies.

Kelly

Thanks for pointing that out KELLY...I remember Max, Oscar and Roselena getting in the car and didn't even notice Aldo scooting off to the side (again, the drawback of taking notes). For sure, he knows when to vamoose. Now will he be smart enough to leave Vicky alone? Doubt that very much.

Take that Maximino and RE! Thanks for the great recap, Judy. I am so enjoying the show right now--I'm seeing a total swap of roles in our future. Luci as the successful, empowered woman and Rod as the poor boy in love.

Is Violeta really DA's baby? If so, that would explain this odd passion between Magda and he. It may come off as dislike, but they are awfully "into" that dislike--makes me think there is something else under the surface.

But nothing beats that devil woman reading about Mother Teresa. Brilliant from the Director!

So sorry I missed your comment Anna. You must be out on the West Coast no? Yes, I like the reversal of roles too. Rodrigo is looking pretty weak right now.

Hi Judy--I'm in Georgia, but I have to DVR and watch it when I can. I'm usually a day behind. I loved watching this one b/c even though I was a day late, I got to snuggle with my littlest baby while she had her bottle. Maybe just maybe she's learning some Spanish. Mommy sure is! I appreciate your recaps so much.

Those days of feeding babies, snuggled up on the couch, are the best. Glad you have such good company. Now even my grandchildren are past the baby feeding, snuggle age. WaAAAH.
