Qué Pobres, Weds 2/26/14 (#37): Heeeeeeere’s Daddy!

In no particular order:

Desperate Woman Reads Teen's Old Tweets
Isela warns Mini that if Ahole finds out that "we" can't conceive, he'll dump Mini. And if he finds out she's helping MA, he could kill her.

Mini disagrees. As long as they can get a "son" for him somewhere, even if Ahole finds out ("and he WILL find out," Mini says), no way will he throw away his big chance at the prize.

As for MA, Mini thinks she knows how to find him. She looks at Frida's tweets/blog(s)/other social media. But there doesn't seem to be anything recent and it's all about Tato, Tato, Tato.

Grandma in Old Pajamas Begs Grandson: "Get a Job"
MA questions Mati about the papers that were hidden in the busted bust. All she remembers is that her husband told her not to lose it. She can't recall any details (at least not today). She warns him of the dangers of being idle and urges him to get a job.

Fragile, Vulnerable Boy at Monastery Retreat Takes Bath, Forgives Mother
Drunk "Nun" Feeds Dog with Fork

Leo lectures his mother at great length for stealing from a super-poor family. It will take them forever to make that money back, and in the meantime the RPs will be stuck living in the roof-shack that much longer. She should go to confession. If the archbishop forgives her, then maybe Leo will too.

AS says it's too bad he feels that way... she won't be able to help him with Countess Macarena's visit.

That shuts Leo the hell up. He takes a bath. AS feeds the dog (with a fork) and has the hotel boutique send up a selection of designer suits for Leo to take whatever he likes.

Ex-Wrestler Considers Offering Unlicensed Plumbing Services
Chuy tries not to show Lupe how depressed he is, but all the bad luck is starting to take its toll on the Son of Sumatra and he ends up in tears. He's going to need to do some extra work to bring in more income - maybe as a plumber. He and Lupita share a good cry.

Lupita goes to the roof later to collect some laundry - there are an awful lot of bras on the clothesline - and asks MA why doesn't he fix up the shack a little? He doesn't think they'll be living there long enough to justify the effort. (HA!) And why does he want to buy this house at all, for that matter? Lupe says she and her siblings grew up here, but what interest could MA possibly have here? She suspects that he's hiding a little secret behind his jokes.

Self-Proclaimed "Naco" Evades Brawl, Confronts Pretentious "Fresa" Girlfriend
At the school, Tato continues to beg Frida to take him back. She says no way. He's not an anarchist or even a vegetarian! Forget it!!

Later, she finds JT is still hanging around. He wants to drive her home after she's done with her school stuff (she has some stuff to do at the admin offices or something) - she tries very hard to get rid of him, but he refuses. Then Tato shows up and he and JT exchange more insults. Frida sends JT away. "I thought you were better than these fresas," he accuses, but he leaves.

Frida tells Tato that she is definitely NOT JT's girlfriend, but it's only because they don't have much in common. And, sure, they're from different backgrounds, too. Tato jumps on this - see, that's why WE should be together! Frida says no, no. You're a total fake.

Meanwhile, Jordi and another jerk follow JT into the parking lot. They have a fight over whether being a plumber or other blue-collar worker is as worthy as going to school to become a captain of industry. The fresas call over a big scary friend and for a moment it looks like it will be three against one; but JT makes a spectacular acrobatic steeplejacking escape through the parking lot, cheered by applauding onlookers.

Later, JT calls Frida out on her behavior. He didn't like the way she treated him in front of her friends. Frida says it's not as though we're "chavos." JT agrees: she's embarrassed to be seen with a naco like him. Frida pretentiously says she has an obligation to the working class. JT says, "You're full of it, you're a total fake, and I won't be the object of your anthro-pornographical curiousity."

Auditor Incriminates Crook, Gets Big Bag of Money from Lovelorn Flunkie
Ahole tells the board that this independent auditor Mr. Berlanga has uncovered information that conclusively proves that Adolfo helped MA commit the fraud. The board examines the proof and agrees that Adolfo's gotta go to jail right now.

Vilma discreetly pays Berlanga; Ahole is conveniently absent and will no doubt later claim not to know anything about this. Later, with Vilma, Ahole gloats. "He'll never even suspect me because I'll be 'helping' him get out of trouble!" "And burying him even deeper," Vilma co-gloats, taking off her glasses and licking her chops.

Ahole says this calls for a celebration. He'll have a cigar... and lucky Vilma gets to light it! (Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.)

"Seven Seconds in Heaven" Postponed Again By Retching Wife
At home, Ahole quickly disrobes for a quick quickie with his wife. Mini begins retching, and Ahole hurriedly puts his clothes back on. She recovers, and seductively tries to pump him for information about MA and the fraud... she's soooo worried Ahole might be implicated. Ahole proudly says it's not him - it's Adolfo. He starts taking his clothes off again. Mini retches elaborately, and this time I don't think she's faking.

Telenovela Characters Use Phone Call to Explain Slowness of Plot
Saul tells MA it's too soon after Trejo's death to continue bugging the real estate developer about the special secret clause regarding the million dollars and the Menchacas' house. And MA tells Saul that Granny doesn't remember anything, but he'll keep trying. They need to contact Adolfo soon, but Saul asks MA (and us) to be patient.

Adolfo is coming home from wherever and sees a zillion police cars around his building. All of the police are looking at his building, and apparently none of them are watching incoming traffic, so Adolfo just drives away undetected.

Later, MA worries that Leo isn't home yet. He knows Frida can take care of herself, but Leo is "fragile, vulnerable, and different." He finally gets Leo on the phone; Leo claims to be at a monastery retreat.

Costly Countess Sets World Record for Most Disses Per Minute
The Countess has arrived. Leo greets her with a very large bunch of roses. He says they can't go to the RP mansion, because it's being renovated. They can't see Frida, because she's traveling. They're taking the hotel bus, because a limo would attract the paparazzi.

Macarena scopes out the hotel suite and thanks Leo and AS for getting it for her. (AS will have to get another room.) She says it's not as nice as the one in Dubai, but she loves it. She thinks they should have a banquet; AS offers champagne. Mac tastes the champagne, pauses, gives it a funny look, and guzzles the rest of it.

Crow Pie Served to Classmates Who Taunted Fatherless Boy
MA has another heart-to-heart with Emiliano. The boy is upset because the kids tease him for not having a father, and his mother treats him like a baby. He's in fourth grade, for Pete's sake! I think MA says all mothers are like that - even the ones who aren't drunks. (Something like that?)

At school the next day, Emiliano pulls away from his mother as quickly as possible so his friends won't see them together, but they make fun of him anyway. He insists that it's just that his father is busy. The teasing continues until the teacher comes. "There's someone here to see you," she tells Emil. "Your mother won't let anyone else take you home from school and she's not here yet, but your father is here."

All the kids run to the gate. You'd think an ice cream truck had turned over. MA is at the gate. "Hey! Sorry I couldn't take you to school this morning, but I was busy doing parent stuff. Do you forgive me?"

This is fabulous, simply fabulous!

Poor Frida! The poor thing is getting put down from both sides. I hope she comes back with something good for the two sides.

I loved the ending where MA shows up to support Emiliano as his "Dad". That was the very best part. Now hopefully the bad boys leave him alone.

Mini is too funny! She sure has pipe dreams. I do hope though, she helps MA prove his innocence.

Ahole has bitten off more than he can chew, that's for sure. I think this will come back to slap him in the face.

I bet the Countess is broke. Why would she stay in the suite with Mama AS and Leo? And she only brought one bag? Hmmmmmm.........

Julie, I loved your "headline" recap! It was so very funny and hit all the highlights. Thanks.

MA should really be feeling the pressure to "get a job" when even doña Mati makes that suggestion.

I was so glad that Jose Tizoc called Frida out on her behavior and has let out his inner "naco" in response. Very funny. I love how he avoided the fight.

AS was at her best feeding DA Vinci with a fork and telling Leonardo that if he were going to be so critical about her taking the money then he should not eat the food he was gorging himself on and should go back to eating at the Menchaca's with the chilaquiles, "vile animal feet tostadas," and " bone marrow tacos". (Sounds pretty good to me). So since AS is at a convent, Leonardo is at a monastery. Okay!

Nauseas continue to work for Minerva. LOL

Looks like Macarena can hold her own drinking with AS the way she drained the champagne glass. Madelaine, Macarena being broke would be hilarious.

MA was at his worst ogling the bras on the clothes line and asking about them. MA was at his best showing up for Emiliano.

Jarifa

I'll try to flesh this out a little bit, but I won't have time to do a lot.

On the two or three previous occasions that we've seen Macarena (on the phone at home) she had a glass of wine on the table next to her. Was that just scenery? Or was it a hint?

And last night we saw her taste the champagne, scowl, and then guzzle. (At least I think that's what she was doing. It happened too fast for me to read her expression.)

If Macarena turns out to be a booze-hound, will AS see some of herself in Mac and be appalled? Or will she just brush it off and say that some people can't hold their liquor?

It will also be very interesting to see whether Leonardo really likes Mac as much as he thinks he does. (And if AS will be exactly the same as Isela, prodding her child to marry for money regardless of his feelings.)

Most interesting of all will be to see who pays the hotel bill. If they're smart, Leo and AS will sneak out while Mac's still asleep.

Recapper Tweaks Headline, Strikes "Italian Woman," Inserts "Fake Nun"

(punctuation is important)

Julie- Loved the headlines recap. :)

Macarena looks like she will provide some comedy as Leo and AS try to keep up with her spending (and drinking) habits. She's also full of backhanded compliments. It's great to see this actress getting to ham it up and have fun, after being a silent doormat and victim in Corazon Indomable.

Done... maybe I should have just left it with the headlines, but there were some big developments, what with Adolfo getting thrown under the bus, Frida being unmasked as poseur, "Dad" showing up at school, and the crazy countess.

There were also quite a few smaller conversations that I missed, and I couldn't figure out what was JT's prank in the bathroom. Did he put something of Frida's in the toilet?

Mads - Macarena had only one bag? WOW, that was a good catch - I missed it.

She did say she planned to do lots of shopping. Who will pick up the bill?

Julie, thanks for the full recap. Also, the titles are perfect and really give us the heart of that segment! So funny.

Yea! DaVinci is back! He got right into Leo's lap.

Though it was nice to see Emiliano rescued from his situation with the nasty little brats....I have mixed feelings about whether this is really a good idea. We know MA will probably end up as Em's dad, but in real life this would just be another lie that needs to be dealt with.

Looks like mac is the perfect DIL for AS, another snob with a fondness for drink. AS is an idiot for all that bowing and scraping over a minor title. You'd think the queen of Spain had walked it. I will however give credit to leo and AS for coming up with good cover stories but now they have to move to another room. Looks like it will be the fancy hotel version of the VIP shack.

Still not liking MA with his constant search for papers to steal the Menchaca money. He continues to strike me as one of those people who, despite his having made it on his own in London, is trying to take the easy way out of the current situation. At this point about the only person who hasn't told him to get a job is Emiliano.

I will admit him showing up at the little boy's school was a nice touch and in yet a third new shirt.

Like TJ who while poor doesn't mope and sulk about it, isn't envious, just proud of who he is. Frieda and the RP's could learn a lesson from him in handling life with grace.

So Adolfo get shoved under the bus and who didn't see that one coming. He is sure to sing like a canary once he finds out who did the pushing.

Much as I detest hime Ahole taking off and putting on then taking off his clothes while Min retched was hilarious.

Perla and JT both have far more self-confidence than Frida and her friends.

Emiliano has good role models at home. At school, however, his classmates are so shallow and mean that it will be a miracle if he wants to continue his schooling as far as Lupe would like. By the time he's in high school, it won't be about sneakers - it'll be about cars.

Thanks for this Julia. Cleverly done and concise... nice.

I especially enjoyed AS and Leo together and it lookas as though the Countess will add considerably to the merriment.

This from JT cracked me up:

"curiosidad social antropornigrafica"

along with,

"Naco's bathe too..."

Thanks, Julie! The news update format is hilarious.

I know MA meant well in pretending to be Emiliano's dad, but I think the kid would be better served with some lessons from Uncle Tizoc in owning your real identity and situation. Like they say, no one can humiliate you unless you let them. If Emiliano could learn not to play into his snobby classmates' narrowminded games, and just be all "Yeah, I don't have a dad or much money. So what?", they would have no power over him. If he were really smooth, he could even make his situation seem cooler than theirs. Play to your strengths, kid.

Glad Tizoc called out Frida on her condescending behavior.

I wonder how long it will be until the madre superiora realizes AS won't be giving any donations to the convent and invites her to do her spiritual seeking in a much more minimalist retreat.

I believe JT's 'prank' for Frida was that he left the toilet ring wet (probably just threw water on it) which usually drives women crazy mad... and it worked.

I too loved the ending, also Leo telling MA that he was visiting AS at the convent but since he can't stay at a convent, they pointed him to the monastery next door and that's where he is isolating himself to do his artwork.

Macarena is sure a bag of surprises. When she met Leo at the airport, she told Leo she was looking forward to him taking her to all the expensive places, restaurants and buying her loads of clothes and things (can't wait to see how that develops)..

Julie: the title is great... short and sweet... yes there were quite a few subheadlines but that one is the catcher for sure!

Julia- Yeah. I think Emi has a lot of things he could be bragging about-- a luchador grandpa; a kungfu expert for an uncle; and a fun mom who lets him ride with her on her cool Vespa. He even has his own helmet. What 9-10 year old wouldn't find that cool?

I know! That's awesome! Plus his uncle has a band! They have lucha libre events at their house! And random strange "family" camping out there, too! Most kids would think that was so cool!

Agreed - Emiliano has nothing to be embarrassed about - except for his embarrassing friends.

But it seems likely that Lupe will hear probably from the teacher) about this unexpected "father" visit, and I don't think she will appreciate it.

Marta - thanks for explaining about the prank. Frida was upset about a wet toilet seat? She's the one who replaced Perla's face cream with school glue! She's lucky JT didn't put Gorilla Glue on the toilet seat!

I actually love how completely lame these kids' pranks are. It's a nice break from the actually mean stuff that goes on in other shows (like LQLVMR, which I also can't get enough of...but I like the light comic relief of this show).

Water on the toilet seat? With so many people sharing one bathroom, I'm surprised he even needed to do anything to bug her. One would think the natural state of the place would get unbearable pretty fast. Speaking of which, I would like to see one of the RPs help out by cleaning the bathroom. I mean, really. They should do SOMETHING. The two families need a chore chart.

Julia

The RP's do NOTHING unless one counts endless bitching as doing something. You would think in the great division of territory contract some actual work things could have been included.

I'm still flummoxed that the VIP shack is still untouched by any attempt to make it comfortable especially with all the stuff they've got stored there. I guess the RP{'s don't think it is worth the effort since they are going to be out of there so fast and back to the good life.

Considering how they have NOTHING ELSE TO DO, I would think it would be worth making it more comfortable even to sleep there one more night.

And yes, I am flummoxed that there wasn't any helping out worked into the contract. Or money off the debt for the time the RPs are boarded there.

Thanks for the recap Julie. I also hope MA's visit doesn't bite Emiliano later.

Interesting theory Mads on the Countess being broke.

So...Minerva just has to send a message to Tato, and he'll probably tell her where to look for Frida, and the hideout will be discovered, right? I'm probably supposed to be on MA's side, but right now I'm hoping they get found just to move this thing along a little. Preferably by Minerva and not Ahole, so we can have progress but still some intrigue and nothing in Ahole's favor.

Julie, I really liked the headline version of your recap--a beautiful bracelet with one shining jewel for each incident in the episode. Then we have the juicy details added in for even more fun!

Tizoc was great with his escape and the applause it brought from the bystanders. Also liked his telling off Frida.

The Countess Macarena looks like another challenge for los RPs. I agree with Vivi--great to see Gaby M. out of pigtails and into the world of fashion and speech.

I hadn't even thought of Minerva contacting Tato. I keep hoping we'll be done with him. I know he's the kind of character I'm supposed to love to hate, but we have Ahole for that. I just regular-hate Tato. Looks like we're stuck with him, though.

While I agree with everyone that the main plot is advancing ridiculously slowly, I'm enjoying the subplots as they unfold. I can remember a lot of TNs where even the subplots would stall for weeks while we suffered through annoying "extension" type subplots that were not interesting, relevant, or fun. So I'm still okay with all of this as long as SOMETHING keeps moving...

I wouldn't even mind so much if the main plot advanced slowly if MA would just do SOMETHING more interesting than whine and plot to get the million. I really enjoy the show overall, but a lot of his scenes are getting repetitive. If his story isn't going to advance, it could at least take some more interesting detours. I'm hoping we'll see that if he FINALLY tries to work to earn some money.

Still finding the other characters hilarious, though. I don't even mind Tato so much since he is mostly there for a prop with which Tizoc demonstrates his superiority. I do so enjoy seeing Tato get punched.
