De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #24- Thurs 4/10

De que no murió, no murió

CarLouse and The Shrimp hang out in front of the fonda while Louse reminisces about how Carmen's cooking was so awesome.  If only he hadn't tried to use her as a drug mule and she hadn't gotten caught.  The promise of empanadas is just too tempting for Shrimp and he tries to go in and get some…but he's stopped by the sight of Carmen in there with Eleazar and blames CarLouse for getting them caught in the first place.  I have no idea what happened, but either Shrimp shoots his gun off by accident or Louse shoves him off their shared motorcycle on purpose.  Shrimp ends up in the street and gets picked up by Eleazar and Morales.  Looks like the gun did go off, as Louse ends up around the corner with a shot in his side.

Drunk!Irene goes over to Alonso's.  And I'm glad it's Alonso's and not another hotel room with some creep.  She decides now is the time to come on to him.  Yeah, that's not awkward at all.

Carmen and Co. are worried about what it means that Louse and Shrimp were in the 'hood, but Eleazar says they should be safe and he won't rest until Carmen is cleared.

Alonso has to break off the smoochies (and those were some damn good smoochies) to toss Irene over his shoulder.  I don't think he's taking her to the bedroom.  Although, even if it's a cold shower, the two of them could probably heat it up.  The cold water has the desired effect…or maybe it's Alonso's arms, who knows.  He gets Irene dried off, but refuses to get her another drink.  She tries to get him to be her [un]dresser, but he stays firm.  Heh.  Firm.  Sorry, my mind's in the gutter.  I blame Alonso's caveman carry.

Lala tries to invite Karina and Vicente to join Diego and Diana at their loveless lunch.  Vicente refuses.  And seriously, Karina…have you learned nothing?!

Whiny!Diana tries to get Diego to take her on a vacation.  "Um, no.  You're going to therapy is where you're going!"  She blames it all on him and he, rightly, said there is no justification for what she did.  Diana pleads for them to fix their marriage.  "Shrink first, then we'll talk."  Diana has no intentions of going to therapy.  As if!

Shrimp tries to make a deal in exchange for Louse's whereabouts.  Eleazar says clearly Louse doesn't give a crap about him, so why not give him up?  Shrimp starts naming residences.

Louse, meanwhile, checks himself into a hotel as Unintelligible Gutierrez.  Up in his room, he starts cleaning himself up.

Diego calls Natalia to tell her he won't be coming back to the office in the afternoon.   He's busy wandering around the mercado, looking for a replacement for the shell he broke.

Andres comes over to Garcia Central Station and gets a warm welcome from Carmen.  Natalia comes home from work and Carmen tells her what happened at the fonda.

Alonso is watching Irene sleep.  Eleazar comes over, looking for a game of dominos.  That's not a euphemism.  Alonso invites him in to divest the apartment of all the booze.  He's a good man, that Alonso.  Doesn't do badly in a wet t-shirt contest either.

As Carmen and Natalia are filling Andres in on all the legal goings-on. a delivery guy brings over a box for Natalia with a note that says "Thanks."  Andres does Natalia a solid and, off her look, says he's the one who sent it.  Natalia invites him out for a walk while Carmen makes dinner.

Outside, Natalia thanks Andres.  He gets upset, thinking she must be seeing some guy her mom doesn't approve of.

Eleazar is baffled that Alonso is even throwing in his aftershave, but Alonso thinks it's a necessary precaution.  He asks Eleazar not to be concerned if he hears screaming.  And almost immediately, it begins.  Irene yells "I WANT A DRINK!"  Eleazar's box o'booze is all loaded up and he hightails it out of there.  Back in the bedroom, Alonso invites Irene to look for alcohol if she wants to, but he's not serving.

Diana's snotty to Mrs. Country Caretaker.  She sets up a sex date with The Sexter for tomorrow.

Diego calls Natalia to ask if she got his gift.  They argue about whose shell was prettier.  Lala catches Diego before he goes into the house to tell him that Irene got into an argument with Vicente and she hasn't come back to the house.

Diego asks Vicente what they argued about, but all he'll say is "the usual."  He warns Diego to get used to it happening frequently.  "If she doesn't care what she does with her life, why should I care about her?"  You're all heart, Grumps.  Not that you bother taking care of yours.

Upstairs, Miss Ray-of-Sunshine Diana rolls her eyes as she accuses Irene of being on a bender.  She mocks her for getting upset about the servants.  Diego grabs his jammies and heads for the guest room.  Alonso calls to tell him that Irene is at his place and he doesn't think she should leave yet.

Irene realizes she's in some dude's bed and not wearing her clothes.  She wonders what she did and starts getting herself dressed so she can go look for booze.

Tiburcio goes into Vicente's office  to tell him that he noticed the effect it had on Irene to see him there.  Vicente brushes it off saying it's Irene's fault if her daughter died.  Tiburcio tells Vicente that he lied to him and Irene's daughter didn't die.  And THAT'S how you convey important news!  Just get it out!

Irene heads into the apartment proper, but unless one of the guys did a bad job of unpacking, there isn't any alcohol to be found.  Alonso emerges from the bathroom and tells Irene that she's locked in until she sobers up.  Irene tries screaming for help.  And then she starts trashing his apartment.  I hope Eleazar is his only neighbor on this floor!

Vicente is shocked.  The real story is…Tiburcio went out in the rain that night and found Irene and the baby.  The baby was freezing and wouldn’t stop crying.  Tiburcio didn't think she'd make it, so he took her to the church and left her in the manger, it being Christmas Eve.  He found out later that someone found a baby, but he didn't want to say anything.  He thought it would be better for Irene to think the baby was dead, than that he gave the baby away the way Vicente wanted him to.  And this brings on the heart attack that's been coming for a while now.

Irene is calmer, but Alonso still won't let her out.  She thinks they slept together since she woke up in his bed, in his jammies.

Vicente has collapsed and Diego can't rouse him.  Tiburcio doesn't give a lot of details besides "We were talking."  Diego goes so far as to whack Grumps in the chest, which at least gets him to open his eyes.

Irene remembers kissing Alonso when she got there.  "Yeah, you did."  "Did you like it?"  "Do you want to eat something?"  "Answer the question."  She tries coming on to him, but he says it's not gonna happen and she can't bribe him with sex.

The ambulance shows up and Vicente is wheeled out.  Mrs. Country Caretaker notices how nervous her husband is.  Lala tries to contact Irene, but it goes directly to voicemail.  Mrs. CC pumps her husband for information and doesn't really think he cares about Vicente.  "Well, you'd better pray he recovers or we won't have jobs!" Mrs. CC looks a little concerned now.

For now, Vicente is ok, but they still need to evaluate the damage.  The doctor proposes an angioplasty and Diego tells the doctor to do what he needs to do.

Irene continues detoxing.  She starts saying she just wants to die, and screaming at him about how she wants a drink, she doesn't want to be the "old" Irene.  Alonso finally relents and unlocks the door, telling her he's not going to fight this battle alone.  Irene changes her tune, asking him not to let her leave.  Alonso gives her a *cough* friendly *cough* hug and promises he'll always be there for her.

Tomorrow: Eleazar gets shot!  By Louse!  Diana makes a scene at the hospital.

So, we're back at 1 episode sober for Irene, 0 mentions of Rodrigo, and 1 big secret revealed.

I guess Christmas isn't a happy time for Irene either...

Kat- This episode was jam packed, and you covered it amazingly well. At least we finally know what happened when Nat was born. Not sure about the wisdom of letting Irene think her baby was dead, versus just getting further confirmation that her dad is a jerk by stealing the baby from her, as he planned to do.

The scenes with Irene and Alonso were emotion, intense, hot, and very well done. At some point he's going to have to recommend her to a colleague so that he can start smooching her for realzies.

Is someone going to tell Andres that he's not a murderer?

We also got to see why Papa Juancho is so connected to Natalia/Garcias. He was the priest who found the baby. Now we just need to know how Carmen, a single woman, got Natalia. I know Brigitte made a crack about Natalia not being a real Garcia but do they all know Natalia is really not a real Garcia?

Thanks, 5ft.

yikes, the guy left the newborn baby n the manger in the church instead of giving the baby directly to the priest or someone. Que?

I did not like that preview of The Louse shooting my sweet Babooneleazer.

I was just howling at "firm" and "Unintelligible Guitierrez"!!!!! (apparently I spend a lot of time in the gutter, too.)

I don't know how you plow these out every day and with such a great sense of humor.

I agree with Vivi--is it really better to tell Irene the baby died? When Nat walked away from Andres I said to myself "um, you forgot to tell him something." Poor guy.

I LOVED when Diego told Diana "therapy first, then we'll talk." I fist pumped and screamed "Well played, Diego!!)

(I admit it, I talk to the TV a lot when I watch my TNs.)

Like we've all been saying: IRENE NEEDS ANOTHER SHRINK. I want these two together so bad, but I cringe during all their scenes because it's so wrong.

IMO this show is brilliantly cast. I honestly can't picture anyone else in each role and I don't find myself trying to recast in my head (I'm looking at you, PSMA.) Everyone seems to really inhabit their character.

Anon207- Everyone in Tuxpan and all the Garcias know that Nat was adopted. But Brigitte is the only who thinks it makes her less of a Garcia.

I was touched by how scared and upset Diego was when Grumps nearly died. It made me realize that this I s a young man who lost his parents at a young age, his aunt took off and rarely came home, and his twin is now in a vegetative state somewhere. Grumps has really been his most constant family member. I like the way he's always there for his aunt Irene too.

Alright, so now we need to know how CARMEN got hold of Natalia, as a single woman. Because in most of these shows the people are told they have to be married before they can adopt somebody.

Diego should be questioning (and perhaps he is) why Diana is so hot for nookie fresh off a suicide attempt.

Anon207- Perhaps it wasn't an official/legal adoption? Maybe Carmen just took the newborn down to the registration office and said this is my baby? We'll have to wait for more flashbacks to find out.

I didn't see the episode, but read in the recap the other day that Carmen had one small child (I assume Abdul), and was pregnant with another (I assume Brigette) when she took in Nat. She has an amazingly big heart to have taken on a third baby when she already had one and another on the way, and was on her own! THAT should be what the ladies in Tuxpan and El should keep in mind whenever they feel the need to criticize her for getting knocked up by four different men.

Wait, Natalia was born on Christmas Eve and found on Christmas. The name Natalia actually means "born on Christmas Day." That just made my inner name nerd smile.

Cassandra G.

Omigosh! How COOL! Thanks for that info, Cassandra! I'm a nerd too :)

Cassandra- Great catch on the name! Now we know that each of Carmen's children have names that have some sort of significance.

I just really like names! Also, Brigette is from the Irish Bridget and means "exalted one" and you know Bratgette would just love that. Another meaning of it is "virtued" though I have to scoff at that. I don't know what the other kids' names mean, I'd have to look that up.

Cassandra G.

The other kids' names might have significant literal meanings, but I meant they indicated where their fathers were from-- Brigitte's dad was French, Abdul's dad was Turkish, etc.

Abdul: servant of (God/the Prophet)
Paolo/Paul: humble
Lupe/Guadalupe: patron saint of Mexico (but literally it means wolf river)

So funny 5ft.

The name Paolo is an Italian baby name. In Italian the meaning of the name Paolo is: Small. little Paul
Paolo's papá is Gino Ricci. I guess Carmen was her own United Nations.

Abdul's papá is Abdul Aldalá
Lupita's papá is Luis Reynoso "el chato"
Brigette's papá is Paul Champignon

Carmen reminds me of Esmeralda from "Esmeralda de noche vienes" Esmeralda had 5 husbands, about to marry the 6th, but never bothered to divorce any of them. Not sure if Carmen ever married any of hers. Really cute film with María Rojo & lots of our novela actors.

So s/b interesting when all the exes show up.

Thanks so much for your recap Kat. I had an LOL moment when you noted how Tiburcio told a big secret in the way it should be done. So true if only he knew about the Great Misunderstanding.

Thanks for the info on the names of Carmen's kids.

Thanks for another outstanding recap Kat.

"She tries to get him to be her [un]dresser, but he stays firm", "box o'booze" and "You're all heart, Grumps. Not that you bother taking care of yours" had me laughing in delight.

Vivi, also thought the Irene/Alonso scenes were riveting. Marisol is bringing it here!

Thanks Cassandra and Variopinta!

Kat, thanks again.

Happy Friday all!

Diana

When Eleazar was going through Carmen's keepsake box, he saw momentos of each of the children's fathers:

There was a keepsake from the Frenchman (Brigitte);

Adbul's dad was Turkish;

Apparently Paolo's dad was the Italian and wasn't attractive and I'm assume Lupita's dad was Mexican and also not attractive, as Eleazar mentioned he was glad Lupita didn't look like her dad.

Now it's coming together why Papa Juancho is so connected to the Garcia family.

Gino Ricci - Ricardo Kleinbaum is not good looking but he is a good actor & in muchas novelas

Luis Reynosa - Ricardo Fastlicht has kind of a funny face, he was in PEAM

Eduardo Rivera - Abdul Aldalá is fairly nice looking.

Alejandro Ibarra - Paul Champignon is nice looking.

You can ck them out on Yahoo images

None can equal Eleazor!!!!!!!

Thanks Variopinta and Vivi for the other definitions! United Nations, lol. The heart wants what the heart wants, and all nations agree that Carmen is amazing.

Yeah Vivi I figured the names were partially based on the father's nationalities. I just found it funny that Brigette is "exalted." I had no idea Guadalupe means "wolf river." I kinda see Lupita as a lioness. I thought that Paolo's dad was Portuguese? Never mind then. The naming on this show are fun. I'm a Lit major so symbolism is everywhere to me.

I'm glad we got more backstory on Natalia's birth overall, especially on how close Papa Juancho has been with her and the Garcias since the beginning. Carmen is such a saint. It takes a really big heart for a single mother with a bun in the oven to take in an abandoned child. I just like the Garcias and Papa Juancho a lot. Except for Bratgette.

Cassandra G.

You're right, Variopinta. Eleazor has them all beat!

Cassandra G.

Wow I made a grammatical error just before revealing I'm a Lit major. Way to go, me.

Cassandra G.

I see this novela getting even better (I hope), lots of good actors in the lineup.

Gracias, all for the feedback :D I've been enjoying reading the comments, though I've been up to my ears in household management work.

Kat, I can't thank you enough for doing all this work and giving us a place to talk about this charming and entertaining show.
