De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #96- Tue 6/17

De que está tras las rejas, está tras las rejas.

Carmen is upset that Natalia told Irene about Tuxpan.  She assumes Irene will end up taking Rod's side and now she has more ammo.

El leaves Morales to wait for some important papers while he takes Cunchetina to lunch.  Morales' mom calls because she locked herself out of the house…and now he has a dilemma.

Gino keeps thinking about the anonymous love email, checking out the chicks in the bowling alley, and wondering which one of them sent it.

Morales gets his buddy to wait for the papers while he goes to unlock the door for his mom.  Kimberly shows up and he tells her El is at La Hortaliza.

Irene shows up at Alonso's apartment.  She's not surprised that Grumps is on Rodrigo's side.  She agrees that Diego needs to press charges and Alonso suggests they check with El.

El can't help being enchanted by Cunchetina.  He thinks Gino's an idiot to care about a few extra pounds.  She asks about his personal life and Kimberly gets to hear him saying he's on the verge of breaking up with someone.  Alonso calls El to summon him to a meeting at his place.

Brigitte tries to catch Alberto so she can borrow money from him, but he's on his way to Alonso's.  She decides to wait, much to his receptionist's not caring.

Gino responds to the anonymous email.

The meeting was at El's office, actually.  Where, in the midst of everyone deciding that Grumps must know where Rodrigo is, and therefore it would be a good idea to put a tail on him, Rodrigo walks in, snotty and smarmy as ever, to "turn himself in."  He taunts Diego, who has to be held back by the Als.

Paolo walks in on Gino as he's sending the email.  Since Paolo has been helping at the fonda, he's been in contact with Mara and tells Gino she's capable of handling things.  Somehow, in the process of acknowledging that Mara's got a good head on her shoulders, Gino starts to think about what an idiot he is for getting excited about an anonymous email when he's engaged to Carmen.

Abdul tells Carmen and Natlia that Rodrigo went to turn himself in.  Natalia is suspicious and worried that it's a trap.

Rodrigo swears to the cops that until 3 days ago he thought he was Diego.  He was completely convinced, until everyone started to confuse him.  And then, to un-confuse himself, he got really drunk.  And then he called his grandfather.  And now, here he is.  From behind the mirror, The Als, Irene, and Diego wonder WTF Rodrigo is up to and don't believe a word of his lies.

Cunchetina buys herself a laptop.

Rodrigo blames it all on Irma.  "She must have done something to me while I was coming out of the coma.  Isn't it weird that she's gone?"  El doesn't believe a word of it.

Paolo, in Gino's office, gets the call that Rodrigo has been "caught."  Gino gives Paolo the rest of the day off, even though he was just grousing about how much work there is to do.  He won't go with Paolo, though…somebody's gotta keep an eye on the bidness.

Before he leaves, Paolo checks with Mara to see if Gino's been acting weird.  They think maybe he's still nervous about the Sicilians showing up.

There's going to be no way to prove that Rodrigo is lying, per Alonso.  Per Alberto, lots of crooked lawyers like to use this trick to get their clients off and Rodrigo must have been advised by one of them.  Per Eleazar, they should have Rod evaluated anyway, but Alonso can't do it since he's the person who uncovered the twin switch.  What he can do is explain to the court-appointed evaluator, who also happens to be one of his former teachers, what happened and how he figured it out.  Irene is sure Grumps is helping Rodrigo pay for the slimy, crooked lawyer.

Rodrigo tries to convince Morales to let him make his one phone call.  Morales isn't going to do that until Eleazar tells him to, which he won't until Rodrigo stops telling this ridiculous story.

Dr. Robledo remembers Alonso as a good student.  Alonso explains that Eleazar wants him to evaluate Rodrigo, that Rodrigo was in a coma for 2 years, and he's claiming that when he came out of the coma, he got confused about who he was and thought that he was really his twin brother, Diego.  He says that Team Diego believes that Rod took his brother's place on purpose.

Eleazar thinks if he keeps questioning Rodrigo, he'll eventually slip up.  Diego asks Eleazar to let him talk to Rodrigo.

Rodrigo convinced Morales to call Grumps and tell him that Rodrigo was arrested.  Fernandez tells Grumps they're doing the right thing and to trust him.

Diego comes into the interrogation room, and whispers something to Morales, who leaves.  Rodrigo tells Diego he's not going to apologize, since he doesn't even know what he's supposed to have done.  "It was all Irma's fault."  Diego tells Rodrigo that he's not there for an apology.  He's there to let Rodrigo know that he talked to Natalia today and that she doesn't care what Rodrigo did, she's willing to give Diego another chance.  "Instead of separating us, you've actually brought us closer together.  While you're rotting In jail, she and I will be happy."  Good strategy!  I wonder who came up with it…I mean, since Lupita's not around.

Eleazar is fine with Morales letting Grumps know where Rodrigo is, but he finds it odd that Grumps didn't really react.  Eleazar would love to bring Grumps in and charge him with being Rod's accomplice.

Brigitte is still getting voicemail and asks the receptionist if she can call Alberto…"Maybe he'll answer if it's from the office."  The receptionist refuses, since, like any decent human being, she assumes that if Alberto's not answering his phone it's because he can't answer his phone.  "Fine!  He's going to find out that you weren't willing to help me!"  Brigitte flounces out.

I suddenly got a wave of nostalgia for Diana.  Remember when she was hiding out at Oliverio's and the landlady came by for two months of back rent?  And Diana called somebody to buy everything in the place that wasn't nailed down and stayed on a mattress on the floor?  Ah, Diana.  You were a selfish, evil woman, but you knew how to get things done.

Cunchetina reads Gino's email and thinks he must love her as much as she loves him.  But wait…he's engaged…and here he is writing her a saucy email?!  That Casanova!  That bastard!  That two-face!  Well, this is what she wanted--to unmask him.  "Sorry, Carmen Garcia.  But all's fair in love and war!"

Diego tells Rodrigo that he now realizes that the reason Rodrigo always wanted to switch places with him is that Rodrigo wanted what Diego had and was never able to get it for himself.  "Two years without you has been the best thing that ever happened to me.  I was tired of hearing about how we were so alike.  All this time I've been just me and no one else.  And now I get to keep that up, while you're in jail."  Rodrigo is on to his game, though, and won't give in.  He puts on his confused face and tells Diego he doesn't understand why he's so upset.  "You're my brother.  I love you."  Diego loses his temper and lunges for Rodrigo, so El hauls him out of the room.

Cunchetina takes some selfies for Gino.

Mara comes in with a folder for Gino, but he still won't let her use the computer and says he's waiting for a personal email.  He gets his reply, plus a picture, and his jaw drops.

El wishes he hadn't let Diego in there.  Diego is pouting like a kid and throws a tantrum about how everybody is always right about everything except him…and promptly gets dizzy.

Rodrigo complains to Morales about how everyone thinks he's the one who's nuts, and look at how Diego behaved. When Morales won't entertain his BS, Rodrigo says he's going to complain to his lawyer about how he was mistreated.  "Oh, yeah?"  Morales says he might as well make getting accused worth his while and acts like he's going to attack Rodrigo.  "Ha!  Kidding.  How stupid do you think I am?  Besides, there are lots of ways to hurt you without leaving a mark."  Rodrigo agrees to back off and then asks what time it is, so he can figure out of his grandfather is going to be much longer.

Padre Juancho arrives at the fonda where Abdul tells him that Rodrigo is in jail.  Nat tells him she doesn't trust that it's over just yet.  Grumps walks in with cops to arrest Natalia for attempting to murder Rod.  Oh, no!  Lupita is terrified and crying as Natalia is dragged away.  You'll pay for that, Grumps!  That's an unforgiveable offense!

In the back of the cop car, Natalia remembers what happened in Tuxpan and remembers everyone telling her that she was only defending herself.

Paolo, Abdul, and Carmen try to follow the car to wherever they're taking Natalia, but they lose it.  When Abdul calls Eleazar to tell him what happened, Eleazar realizes this was Grumps and Rodrigo's plan all along and goes in to rough Rodrigo up over it.  Rodrigo laughs and says "If you're all so interested in 'justice' then she needs to pay for what she did to me.  I was in a coma for two years because of her!"  Morales finally gets Eleazar off of Rodrigo.

Carmen blames it all on Irene.  As far as she's concerned, this is all happening because Natalia told Irene what happened.  Abdul tells her to chill--it will all turn out OK.

Grumps screams at Natalia as she's brought in and a cop reminds her that she needs to stay quiet or it can be used against her.  After she's out of sight, the lawyer tells Grumps that in order for their "plan" to work, he really needs to avoid getting into any arguments with Nat.  Grumps wants to deliver "the final blow" in person, so the lawyer goes to get permission for Grumps to talk to Natalia.

Diego tells Alberto what Natalia told him about Tuxpan.  Alberto can't believe Grumps is going this far.  Diego blames himself for being an idiot and not telling her about Rodrigo.  Alberto tells Diego he has to stay cool.  Eleazar comes in to tell them where Natalia is and says he'll catch up with Carmen later.

Grumps gloats at Natalia behind bars.  Natalia tells him that if poor little Rodrigo was hurt it was because she was defending herself from his attempted rape.  And not only is he a rapist, he's a murderer, too.  Grumps is sure Natalia "provoked" Rodrigo.  Grumps wants to make a deal--withdraw the charges against Rodrigo and convince Diego to do the same and Grumps will drop the charges against her, but she will disappear from their lives.  He gives her the lawyer's name, so she can let him know when she's made up her mind.

Carmen curses Diego--and yes, she really does mean Diego--for ever meeting her daughter.  She wants him gone from their lives.  Diego sadly walks away and Alberto asks her not to be so hard on him.  He promises to get Natalia out of this.  "Well, keep your friend out of it."  Alberto says he can't do that, and they're on their way to see Natalia.  He offers Carmen a ride, but she says the farther away she is from "The Cacares" the better.

Robledo evaluates Rodrigo, who complains that he's confused and they need to find Irma.  Robledo says that whether Rodrigo intended it or not, his actions have had consequences and Robledo has to evaluate how well Rod understands that.  Rod claims there's nothing to understand because he didn't do anything.  He plays the "twin" card saying he and Diego are like one and so of course, he loves him.  Morales, from behind the mirror, remarks to Alonso that Rodrigo's a fabulous actor.  Alonso knows he's acting, but he's not worried.  "What he's doing IS a sign of mental illness. But we're going to have to figure out which one before we can accuse him."

When Vicente gets home, he is met with an angry Irene, who calls him a monster for locking up an innocent woman.  Grumps insists Natalia provoked Rod's attempted rape.  Irene calls him crazy.  Grumps says Nat's a social climber and he can't understand why Irene would be on her side when Rodrigo almost died because of her.  "He had it coming!  It was nothing more than a consequence of his actions."  She accuses him of not thinking of Diego.  "Sure I am!  And that's why I'm going to nip this in the bud.  I have to fix the lives of my grandsons, and the only way to do that is to get that woman out of their lives."  Irene is seeing the parallel between what he's doing now and what he did when she was pregnant.  He decides how he wants things to be and he manipulates everything to get what he wants.  Grumps thinks she really needs to get over losing her daughter already and just move on with her life.  Not gonna happen, Grumps.  Irene will never forget about her.  She intends to find her.  And she will never forgive Vicente.

Tomorrow: Irene is on to Vicente's plan.  Diego says he's prepared to stay out of Natalia's life if it helps get her out of jail.

Anytime, Padre Juancho, anytime. Not that I think it will change anything. Irene is already on Natalia's side and Vicente already knows who she really is. Maybe they could threaten him with scandal?

So...chances that Diego will turn himself in and say he's the one who hit Rod over the head?

Kat thanks so much for your recap and yes PJ should speak up now. And it will be scandalous when Irene & Diego come to the full realization of how horrible Grumps is.

I really hope Diego does NOT turn himself.

And Sara thanks so much for your Friday recap and Kat for your work on Monday.

Thanks for another fab recap, Kat.

Last night I just marvelled at how evil Grumps is. Wow! It would be bad enough if he didn't know who Nat really is, but he's committed to destroying the life of Irene's child, and making sure they never find each other.

Carmen really got on my nerves this episode. She needs to stop with the ugly attitude. What in the world makes her think Irene is the one who turned Nat in? That's just stupid.

On a lighter note, I was surprised Kimberly didn't make a scene when she saw El with C-Tina and heard his intentions to break up with her. What's she planning?

Thanks Kat. Nice. "She decides to wait, much to his receptionist's not caring." "Good strategy! I wonder who came up with it…I mean, since Lupita's not around."

Grumps - it's not rape you wanted it

Hot Rod - well ask em, they all were calling me Diego so you see how a boy could become confused

Nat - victim of love

Cunchetina - "Boy, you the shit, go and take a power shower
And I'm feeling like it's me and you, I don't doubt it"

Gino - if you're hot you're hot if you're not you're not

Diego - bad copy of Hot Rod

Alonso - "Just a little boy lost in a big man's shirt"

Brigitte - shameless hussy

Kimberly - ouch, that gotta hurt

Carmen - don't get too comfortable standing on that rug

El - can't you take a hint

I was laughing at the Brat's dilemma. How is she going to get cash, when everyone is busy with the Rod-Diego-Nat mess? Will she be put out on the street? I really hope so!

Stellar Kat, just stellar.

"She decides to wait, much to his receptionist's not caring", "Rodrigo walks in, snotty and smarmy as ever, to "turn himself in" and "Good strategy! I wonder who came up with it…I mean, since Lupita's not around" were fabulous.

First, let me say I am with Karen in fervently hoping Diego does NOT turn himself in. They need to prove Rod is the monster that he is and not muddy the waters further with lies although desperate times do call for desperate measures.

“Rodrigo swears to the cops that until 3 days ago he thought he was Diego”. I was wondering what the heck kind of defense Rod would come up with and here you have it. Rather brilliant (I say begrudgingly and unwillingly).

"Grumps thinks she really needs to get over losing her daughter already and just move on with her life". I do not want Grumps to be redeemed. He is a hideous gargoyle. He is trying to decimate Natalia and I can't wrap my head around that. He knows she is Irene's daughter. I'm trying to fathom (but can't) why he has no regard for that? Is it that he hates Irene? Would he feel the same way if she weren't adopted or does that have nothing to do with it? I'm just trying to figure out what makes this monster tick.

Vivi, yes, please let's discuss something lighter. I was also surprised Kim didn't pop in on El's little discussion with Cunchetina (I really like her!)...I'm sure she is biding her time. At least this (hopefully) has Kim off Carmen's back for the moment.

I can't blame Carmen for her outburst to Diego. It's just unfortunate it wasn't Rod. She was out of line with Irene but let's face it, almost every affront to womankind has been perpetrated on Nat by Diego's family so I'm going to give her a pass here.

tofie, still smiling at "Hot Rod - well ask em, they all were calling me Diego so you see how a boy could become confused".

Kat, this was excellent.

Diana

I also hope that Diego doesn't try to take the blame for Rod's coma. I know she must be guilty of some crime, but I can't figure out what it would be called. She didn't perpetrate the crime. Rod did. She wasn't even the one who fought him. Andres did. Andres didn't even cause the coma blow on purpose. Rod lost his footing in a fair fight between him and Andres and hit his head on a log. But they fled without calling an ambulance. What crime is that? Negligent something or other? Not calling the police and reporting what "Diego" did was just foolish and definitely makes them look guilty.

Hi, 5ft,

As always loved your recap.

I am still convinced that Grumps is the most evil person on the battle field.

"Per Alberto lots of crooked lawyers use this trick to get their clients off..."

Really? This attempted rape, coma, switch with your twin, attempted murder of your twin, marriage under the name of your twin, etc is so common that it is discussed in law school? I had no idea.

Love how the Garcias, by virtue of their friendship with El, in effect have their own private police force, paid for by the taxpayers of DF.

Too bad Lupita couldn't do anything last night. I'll bit she could strip Rod of his lies if she was given the chance.

Thanks again 5ft, I enjoy your take on things.

David

David- I think Albogado meant playing the crazy/"I didn't know what I was doing" card. Although, it would be amusing if this exact case had come up multiple times in Mexican courts. All those evil twins lucking about stealing lives and causing mayhem. :)

That's lurking about, not lucking(?).

Please, please give Lupita one whole episode to clean up then everyone can go back to the brawl

5FT, I missed the action last night, but with yet another super dooper recap from you, I didn't miss a thing.

As creative as you are, do you also write plays and such? I think you would be really good at that.

How will Grumps pay in the end for all the harm he has caused and continues to cause? I wonder.

Thank you again 5FT!!

Fatima

"Good strategy! I wonder who came up with it…I mean, since Lupita's not around."

Ah, that's the kind of Diva-ism I love. Your recaps are always so much fun. Haven't seen this yet, but look forward to the Gina/Conchetina action and not much else. Thank God for those two! And Lupita.

And our marvelous, hard-working recappers.

Thanks Diva.

Gracias Karen, Vivi, tofie, and Diana!

I would rather things stayed above-board and Team Diego didn't resort to lies as Team Rodrigo has. That would go a long way to Diego proving that no, he's not like Rod and he really has learned his lesson. But that would mean he has to have learned his lesson. I don't trust him as much as I trust Alberto not to want to be a party to that and risk his legal career.

Nat has 3 strikes against her, as far as Grumps is concerned...1, Irene isn't a "real" Cacares; 2, Tad is a "nobody"; 3, Natalia is a "nobody" (never mind that that's Grumps' fault). I was optimistic enough at one time to think that he would be won over by her competence, since "the bidness" means so much to him. The times she was around, at least. As a secretary, she didn't flounder around like Karina did. Unlike Brigitte, when he came to the Eskenda workroom looking for progress reports Natalia was able to provide them. When Irene and "Diego" were both unavailable and it was time to select fabric providers, she actually did give him an accurate assessment of which provider was the best--it was Rodrigo who screwed that up with his lies so he could embezzle money. So, I guess Grumps' devotion to "the family business" is just like his devotion to "family unity"...it really just means that he wants to control everything. That might be strike 4 against Natalia--he's never been able to control her.

Carmen has been annoyingly jealous of Irene since before she met her and it just keeps getting uglier. She's spewing a bunch of baseless accusations and doesn't care that they're really not helpful. And all her talk about "The Cacares"...as if they always maintain a united front. When has Irene NOT been on Natalia's side? She's even kept useless Brigitte around at Natalia's urging. But now, all of a sudden, Carmen wants to believe that Irene would rather throw Nat to the wolves in favor of saving her attempted-rapist, embezzler, con man of a nephew? Seriously, Carmen?

My "impossible-to-redeem" list is now at 2. Brigitte and Grumps have made Lupita cry and that is something you just don't come back from.

Gracias David and JudyB!

Eleazar really does seem to be in charge of "Garcias" and not "Homicide." He hasn't had a case since he busted up the drug ring. I guess that scared off all the would-be murderers in the entire DF, thus freeing Eleazar up to deal with issues like identity theft and hot Sicilianas!

I want to see a show with nothing but El and Lupita solving crimes.

"made Lupita cry" that should be an international unit of measure

How many times have we had "identity theft by evil twin" as a plot point? I remember Debora taking Marfil's place in Acorralada while Marfil was in a coma. Have there been others?

Once a character's level of evil exceeds 1 MLC, that character cannot ever get back into the good graces of the recapper, although they may rejoin the company of Team Good as an accepted member depending on the sappiness of Team Good.

1 MLC, lawdy, needed the giggle

Thanks Kat. Yes, it appears Nat has too many strikes against her.

I cannot wait for Grumps anvil (almost as much as Rod's). May it be fitting for such an evil, horrible individual. Blech (thanks Sylvia).

Diana

The good guys need to use the old twin switcheroo trick themselves. Hide Rodrigo and replace him with Diego and confess everything. Keep him from the old goat until after the sentencing by making sure "Rodrigo" refuses all visitors, including his attorney and his grandfather. Prisoners can't be forced to receive any visitors if they don't want to. Then right when Rod has to go through the humiliating prisoner process they should switch him back so that it is, indeed Rodrigo who winds up in prison while Diego remains free. Then who's going to believe it when he yells and screams that he didn't confess to anything? And Gramps will be so angry at him for confessing like a fool and ruining the family name, not to mention refusing to see him and his lawyer that he'll disown him and throw him to the wolves. Y FIN ... Natalia will have her Diego back and we can go on with the interesting parts of the story, like Tiburcio making himself understood and telling Irene who her daughter is; Lupita and her gang (C-Tina, El and Morales) dealing with Gino; the Brat's comeuppance, etc.

Holy Cow, I think I posted my thanks to you for yet another STELLAR recap on the wrong day!

Oy. This is what happens when one is in a rush.

5FT you amaze me. You have given us one excellent recap after another. Plus, you keep us laughing all the way with your wonderful insights. Your talent is a joy to behold.

I love little Lupita. I hope we see more of this child in the future (coming from someone who is not so interested in these child actors).

Grumps is bad. Bad.

Fatima

Anon at 11:26...it would work. Nobody so for has bothered to come up with a definitive way to legally tell the twins apart. It's all "I'm Rodrigo" "I'm Diego" and no mention of a way to distinguish them. You'd think that would be a priority when one of the charges is "identity theft."

Gracias, Fatima! I'm happy to accept accolades on any day you want to post them :D

Vivi, I'm sure you are correct about the lawyer situation; I must have had Emilia's beanie on too tight.

Tofie and 5ft; love "make Lupita cry" and 1 MLC.

Anon 11:26, my, you have a wonderfully devious mind! But I'm sure our good guys could find a way of screwing it up.

David

Anon, what a nefarious, devious plot suggestion...

Needless to say, I love it!

Seriously, I do hope good will triumpuh over evil in the end but your plan certainly would be the perfect back-up plan if all else fails!

Fatima, your "Grumps is bad. Bad" had me smiling away.

Diana

5 FT: Loved the recap. The comments about getting Lupita in the box with Rod and Diana’s ability to get things done were my favs.

I think Grumps hates Irene—maybe because she’s not Carceres blood or his wife gave her too much affection. Or both. Or other reasons. Who knows. I think he hates Nat because she’s Irene’s child. Also, Nat can cause the biggest scandal ever (in Grump's eyes), when it comes out who she is.

Anon: Loved your idea.

Diva: I totally agree about making Lupita cry. NO ONE GETS AWAY WITH MAKING LUPITA CRY!!!!!!!

Nanette

Gracias, Nanette! Nobody puts Baby in a corner and NOBODY makes Lupita cry!

Diva: Exactly!!

I think Grumps just hates women period. All women.

He's pretty nice to his old/returned secretary, Rosa. Along with Diego, she's really the only person we've seen him act polite/friendly towards, without prompting.

Although, Rosa keeps her mouth shut around him and never pushes her disagreement too far. That might be why he's polite to her, but not to any of these other uppity women who don't know their place. He's a piece of work, that Grumps. I wonder what he'd do if she ever had enough and refused to let him get away with his crap any longer.

Anon 11:26
Did you & Lupita cook that up? Love it.

Kat- ITA. Rosa would be on his sh*t list pretty quick if she disagreed with him. I'm still disappointed in her that she's keeping the secret about the true ownership/management of the company.

Makes me wonder where she would draw the line. If she found out about Natalia, would she keep quiet about that too? Or would that be going too far for her?

Vicente has already shown signs of unnecessary rudeness toward Rosa. He yelled at her for "letting" Diego into his office (when he first found out about Diego and Natalia's relationship) and then yelled at her for NOT telling him to go right in when he was speaking to Diego again.
Both times he was extremely rude and there have been other times when she asks him a simple question and he snarls his answers at her.

Anon at 5:58 that's right, he did, didn't he! And she not only keeps putting up with it, but I think she genuinely cares about him and worries about his health.

Sorry I'm commenting so late, but this was great Kat!!!

I loved this line:
"Good strategy! I wonder who came up with it…I mean, since Lupita's not around."

I also loved the whole paragraph about your wave of nostalgia for Diana. I miss that girl, too.

Lol...ah, those were the days...when Diana was as bad as it got. RIP Diana!

Little did we know that Diana was just the warm up villain. Rod and Grumps have far surpassed her. And the Brat is just a poor copy.
