De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #167, El Gran Final 8/29/2014

De que tenemos un final feliz, un final feliz

Once again we all must thanks Kat for taking this tn on all by herself.  Without her enthusiasm, I might have let this one past by.  And though we’ve had some downs lately with the plot, the beauty of this blog is the community that Jane has created.  It is so much fun to virtually watch tns with others and laugh, scream, and mock (Ferro explains in the banner and informs new bloggers about our antics because our mocking can be misunderstood as hate) the craziness that is in most telenovelas.  And we learn some Spanish too.  Thank you for your kind words and encouragement as a recapper because the talent we have here is extraordinary, one can get very intimated.  Kat, Sara, and Vivi are some the best of the best and I have been honored to share time with them and you.  And now, the final episode...
Rod has both Nat and Brig at gun point and Brig is in shock.  Nat is concerned for her and Rod mocks Nat. He kicks Brig and orders them to move.  They return to the cabin from hell and Brig is now handcuffed.  She cries and curses Rod.

Diego arrives at the crashed car site and goes to the cabin.  Rod again tries to get rapey with Nat but we are spared her potential violation but not physical abuse because he finds her phone.

Diego gets closer to the cabin and is hiding behind a tree when Morales finds him and thinks he’s Rod.  Fortunately for Diego, El is near and confirms that this is Diego not Rod.  The cops follow Diego to the cabin.

After she tells Rod that she talked to El and let him know their location.  Rod realizes he needs to move and starts dragging Nat out of the cabin.

El, Morales, and Diego hear Nat’s screams and Diego wants to rush in.  El has to calm him down and since Diego won’t go (seriously El you and/or Morales should have cuffed his interfering self), El gives him his bullet proof jacket.  So wrong on so many levels.  They send Diego around the cabin while Morales and El approach from the other side.

Rod tries to grab Brig and drag her out as well.  He pulls her hair and Nat throw him against the wall.  He is able to get up and run after Brig.  As Brig is running outside, El and Morales see her and tell her to take cover.  Sadly Rod takes both of them by surprise (I know Bryan will probably point out the ludicrousness of this scenario) and takes him both out.  Morales had his vest on but El was shot in the chest.  Nat comes out of the cabin in time to see Rod shoot both men and is in shock.

Rod has Nat by the hair and is demanding Brig face him so he can shoot her.  Nat offer herself to him and begs him not to shoot Brig.  He tells her he doesn’t care about Brig or her child.  Brig tells Rod to let go of Nat and kill her if he wants to.  They have hurt a lot of people and they can be together.  She asks for Nat’s pardon.  Diego comes on the scene and somehow has a gun (I don’t remember the guys giving him a gun; he found it near the woodpile.  Please don’t ask how unless Rod dropped it.).  Rod runs from Nat to Brig and holds the latter at gunpoint.  The brothers are in a standoff but Rod and Brig back up onto a trap door/outside cellar type door with several rattle snakes, think Indiana Jones with a much shorter distance between the people and the snakes.  It’s bit of a beanie moment to think this somewhat abandoned cabin has an underground shed with rattelsnakes. The snakes bite both Rod and Brig.  Nat and Diego rescue Brig and then Rod.  Nat calms Brig.  Meanwhile Morales calls for help as things are looking bleak for El.  Things are also looking bleak for Rod.  He has been bitten several times and dies in Diego’s arms.  El says Carmen’s name and then faints.  Diego cries over his brother lamenting that he was so competitive and it led to him being a bad person.  Brig is getting worse and Diego makes a tourniquet for her with his tie.

The action moves to the hospital and Diego waits for the arrival of Vicente.  He wants to see his grandson though Diego tells him he is not recognizable.  Vicente cries over his wayward nieto.

It looks like El may die.  For some reason Al is the operating room.  The doctors give up after a few shock attempts.  Then Al tries to revive his friend.  He is not successful and El has left us.    Vincente is devastated and returns to Irene waiting in the lobby.  Then Al comes in and tells Carmen, Nat, Morales, Diego and the others that El is gone.  Carmen is overcome and runs to see the body.   Carmen cries over El’s body while El is greeted by Big Al in heaven.  During his time in heaven, El looks apprehensive and keeps hearing Carmen’s cries.  She tells El how she needs him and can’t live without him.  She will always love him and he is her life.  Big Al keeps urging him forward but El is still hesitant.  El comes back to the land of the living and Carmen rushes out to get the doctors.  Confession, I got an inkling El wouldn’t die because of how he was left on the operating table and Carmen crying over his body.  This and the fact the Marcelo Córdoba is really big now.  Fans would have been really irate if El was taken from us and in the last episode.  Perhaps Televisa learned from the unfortunate conclusion of Lo Que La Vida Me Robo.

Two weeks later, Carmen goes to visit Brigette.  Carmen asks how she is and Brig says her leg huts  Sadly, her mother has to tell her she doesn’t have that leg anymore.  The doctors will have to explain why she still feel pain in a leg that does not exist.  Wow, her anvil was real; she lost her baby and the lower part of her leg, due to the snake bite.  Brig claims she has nothing left to live for but Carmen encourages her that despite these losses she has a full life ahead of her.  Paul comes in and explains phantom limb syndrome to Brig:  her brain still thinks her leg is still there and that’s why she feels the pain.  It will go away with time.  Paul will take care of her new leg.  She thanks him and family quietly cries together.

Vicente is not getting over Rod’s death well.  Irene tries to encourage him and he admits that he is sorry he tried to force Irene to let go of Tad.  I just don’t understand why the writers did not have Vicente come completely clean and confess when he was Grumps, the abuelo from Hades, one of the other bad things he did was change ignore his wife’s will.  He could further demonstrate his REAL change by actually putting that will into effective now.

So little Al has been hiding out in his apartment pretending he went to London.  Diego lets him know that Irene has been sad since he “left.”  Al thinks he should say “away” a few more days and Diego warns him if Nat convinces Irene to surprise him he’s toast.  It’s like the writers are daring us to want Al with Irene by showing us what an immature, idiot he is.

Meanwhile Nat is actually trying to convince Irene to surprise him.  Nat starts looking for tickets and Irene joins her.

El returns home to a surprise party with the Garcias.  Lupita hugs him and he winces a bit.  He jokes that perhaps he’ll get hurt more often and Carmen tells him don’t think like that.  Brig approaches him on crutches and thanks him.  Later that night, El and Carmen are in bed.  Though I want them together, he’s just back from the hospital after a gun shot wound to the chest.  And Lupita hugged him too hard.  As they kiss, El’s room becomes heaven/outer space as opposed to heaven where El was two weeks ago.

Somehow Irene finds out Al did NOT go to London.  Diego tells him she’s angry and Al rightly states he’s an idiot.  Did she go to London?  Anyway, she arrives at Al and Diego’s yells at them both for lying to her.  Diego ducks out.  She slaps Al for lying to her and making her suffer.  Nevertheless, this juvenile action on his part does not deter her from saying she loves him and they making out

Back at El’s, our couple has finally congressed.  In the afterglow, El gets a ring from his dresser and proposes to Carmen.  He tells her she doesn’t know how long he’s dreamed about this.  She thinks he means sex but he means proposing to her.  He was going to propose earlier but things didn’t work out at the hotel (as poor Kat kindly delineated for us).  He finally asks her to marry him and she says yes.

She shows her ring to Lupita and Luz, who are both very happy.  El smiles and says Carmen will be his.  He looks at his wedding tux.  She looks at her wedding dress and says today we will be married.

Wow, I guess Brig’s life and death situation did change her.  She is in Oaxaca teaching children had to read and feels this is her life’s purpose.  She is sorry she will miss Carmen’s wedding.  This is interesting Brig changes but it appears her new purpose conveniently keeps her away from the family for a period of time.  I’d love to know what people think about this.

El is nervously waiting at the church when Carmen arrives.  Abdul and Paolo walk her down the aisle and I get a little weepy.  Padre Juancho (PJ) starts the sermon but for some reason El has flashes of the baby daddy’s of Carmen’s past.  This time Carmen lets him know they are not illusions, the guys are attending the wedding.  El urges PJ to rush the ceremony, PJ does look at bit put out but continues.  Nat and Diego bring the rings, Abdul and Mali bring the coins, Paolo and Luz put the white rope around them.  Carmen and El and finally declared husband and wife.

Our newlyweds have a nice reception with most of the characters from the tn there.  Morales and Kimberly dance, he very enthusiastically.  After the bride and groom, El dances with his mom and Carmen dances with Vicente.  Diego and Nat join the mix as do all Carmen’s former beaus.  When Carmen throws the bouquet, Irene catches it.  The guys carry El around.  He throws the garter and Abdulla gets it.  They do an interesting dance, similar to kids playing London bridge is falling down (if little ones still do this), with the couple on chairs and then lowering their hands to capture a passerby.  They get Senudo.

Carmen and El drive off as the reception party waves.

Days later, El is packing up his things with Al when Hotscar calls to let Al know the baby will be here soon.  Oscar helps Karina breath.  This is awkward and becomes more weird when the doctor asks who will accompany Karina in the room.  I know they can’t have newborns on the set but the very cute baby looks six months old at least.  Karina and Al admire their child.  It seems poor Oscar fainted.  When he finally comes in the room, he says the baby looks like him.  They all laugh.

Luz comes to the fonda to get keys to prepare for Nat’s bridal shower.

Lupita asks PJ why she hasn’t been invited to the bridal shower or bachelor party.  He tries to explain those are adult parties.  He attempts to distract her with cartoons but Lupita wants to play poker.  Watch out PJ, if you bet anything, my money is on Lupita.

Luz is the host of Nat’s bridal shower.  The guys are having the bachelor party at Diego and Vicente’s.  Vicente is happy the party goers (Al, Abdul, Paolo, and El) are nice guys because from what he has heard these things today can get pretty racy unlike when he was a youth.  The doorbell rings and I’m kind of concerned for Vicente.  With these jokesters anything is possible.  The other members of the police force accompany a young woman, who must be tonight’s entertainment.  Vicente introduces himself to her and the rest of the guys are anxious for the show to begin.  The music starts and Vicente almost faints.

Irene and Carmen give Nat martial advice as she dresses for her wedding.  They also ask her to make them abuelas muy pronto (grandmothers very soon).

Diego seems to be running late for the wedding.  PJ asks about him and Nat worries.  We are given a glimpse of the fears she has.  She’s left so long waiting she is now expecting a baby in her same wedding dress.  Diego arrives but as they are hugging, men in black SUV leap out and grab him.  As he’s dragged into the car, he says he can’t marry her.  Suddenly Diego is behind Nat with a French accent.  Sounding just like Paul, he tells her he isn’t ready for this commitment and leaves.  She yells no.  Then Irene approaches her with a letter from Diego.  In the letter, he tells Nat that Vicente arranged a marriage for him with a woman from Turkey and so he can’t marry her.

Diego finally arrives and tells Nat his tardiness was due to technical issues.  PJ gives the service
and we see cast members we enjoy dressed very nicely (again).  The ring bearers are Carmen and El.  Nat and Diego exchange rings..  Those bringing the coins are Luz and Vicente and Irene and Al lasso them with the white rope.

Another fun reception.  Lupita is very excited!  As the festivities continue, we see the cast enjoying themselves with dancing.  Snapshots of the various couples and Lupita flash across the screen.

We close with Nat and Diego getting to their hotel room.  They start kissing and we discover that his delay was because he painted himself black like on the day they first met.  Here’s to that type of gag not happening a tn again.  Our couple laughs and continues to kiss.

You are so sweet, Karen! I have really enjoyed our recapping team!

It's past my bed time, but I wanted to thank you for the recap. I'll be back tomorrow to really revel in it.

All in all I thought it was a pretty satisfying fin.

Very well done, Karen! I enjoyed reading the final recap for this show as I'm sure many others will as well.

I don't know but maybe it was me, but Brig was handcuff, but when she ran outside, she wasn't. Did I see that wrong or did I miss something?

Yes, giving Diego his vest was incredibly stupid for El to do, but par for the course with this show. You know, Karen, that scene with Rod taking out El AND Morales speaks for itself. You're really going to give a murderer a heads up by telling him to drop his gun, allowing him to get the drop on you and your partner, was beyond stupid. Rod took both of them out and I don't know if they got a shot off.
Even though I found El coming back to life highly unrealistic, I'm glad he did. I think it's one of the rare times the writers did something right. I was very happy they ended up finally walking down the aisle, more so than Nat and Diego.

This episode felt rushed to me, like they were trying to hurry up and wrap things up quickly, from Diego magically finding a gun to Nat and Diego's wedding.

I also would like to know how did Irene find out Al didn't go, I'm curious if she went to London also.

Bridgette not being there for anyone's wedding had me scratching my head. Because they were rushing things we don't know how much time went between Carmen's wedding and Nat's wedding. Like I said, they seem to rush things. I assumed she would go to france with her father but he was at the wedding.

Oscar and Al and Karina's little triangle won't last long. I can't see that working at all.

Nat and Diego's wedding? They were trying to hard to get the viewers emotional and thrilled they were finally getting married but I was like, so what? It was a nice wedding but I just feel they're two big kids trying to play grown-ups. The black paint at the end? *sigh*

Just another random thought, Irene and Al don't really look like a couple to me. The don't look right together.

Those were just my thoughts on the final episode.

Thank you, Karen! I really appreciate you jumping in on this one and sticking it out through all the madness! I will absolutely admit to loving to mock and I'm so glad to have found this community where my mocking is appreciated.

I caught 3 Indiana Jones references...the pit of snakes, the slap followed by the kiss (Irene and Al), and the "does it hurt here?" (Carmen and El).

I don't know how I feel about the appropriateness of Brigitte's anvil. Really, all I needed was for her to actually change and not be punished so much. The joke over here was "She's teaching kids how to read? I didn't know SHE could read." Yeah, I'm going to hell.

There were some sour notes in the episode, like El having his freak-out about the exes, Natalia reliving all of Carmen's previous ways of being left at the altar, and oh yes can we NEVER do the black paint thing again! All those scenes were like speed bumps.

I guess I'm glad that El didn't die, but if he wasn't going to die then the only purpose I could see for having him visit the pearly gates was so that we could see Big Al one last time, since Rod was no longer around to hallucinate him. It was just a little odd, as was Alonso being in the operating room, though I guess he is an MD. I just never think of him that way.

LOVED the boys walking Carmen down the aisle. LOVED that the exes were there, though I was sad that Cunchetina didn't come with Gino. LOVED that Irene didn't catch the bouquet so much as get hit in the face with it...I don't mean that in a mean way, it was just a very "real" moment (and it made me think of throwing my bouquet directly at the ceiling on the first try...it's not like anyone trains brides in the right way to toss a bouquet).

Karina giving birth could have been cute if the guys hadn't started squabbling. Is it really so crowded in a delivery room that they couldn't have both gone in?

"Watch out PJ, if you bet anything, my money is on Lupita." That made me laugh. I wonder who Lupita has been honing her poker skills on. Has she cleaned her brothers out of money? I love that kid!

What were they thinking, bringing a stripper to Vicente's?! With his bad heart! I'm surprised they didn't kill him! I also was a little nervous that he'd show up to the wedding with the stripper on his arm.

I noticed that at Nat and Diego's wedding, even Toño was in a tux.

I'll probably think of some more things I want to say as more people chime in. Gracias again, Karen!

Sara, thanks for the kind words and I anxiously your thoughts on the gran final.

Bryan, thanks and glad you stopped by. I knew you would find the police work badly done. And though El's resurrection was unrealistic, it was necessary because to kill off a main character at the end of a tn would not be a good closing.

I think the reason you feel things were rushed was because certain things weren't given effective resolution, like Brig or how Irene found out about Al. The frustrating thing about those types of questions is that we had filler moments like Nat waiting at the church when other plot points could have been explained.

Since I know you are new to this site, I must suggest you watch the last episode of Amorcito Corazon. It's currently playing at 1 am and has many of the same actors and the same producer. The reception is a Bollywood type tribute with all types of fun dancicng and you can tell the cast was having a blast like the two receptions we saw tonight.

Kat thanks for your kind words and your mocking really made/makes your recap sizzle!

No you won't be going to hell because Brig was so lazy and such a get over artist, it is a bit of a stretch to believe she is helping others to read. Though it was extreme, I'm happy the writers do make her change so Carmen would not have to disown her.

I like your idea about Big Al being the reason El went to heaven. It does make sense w/Rod not being there. And ITA w/your thoughts on the delivery room, those are big rooms and two people could be there aside from the doctors and nurses.

And thanks for the laugh about your worrying that Vicente would bring the stripper to the wedding.

LOL 5ft Latina beat me to it! Tonito looks ravishing in his tuxedo. I could just dip him in whipped cream and eat him up! Tono Penguino que chulo.

Tono aside, LooneyVision edited THE HELL OUT OF THIS FINAL! The Bachelor(ette) parties were way longer and we were supposed to get a scene of Diego fully black. I'm so mad. We were cheated out of this show.

CS thanks for stopping by. Tonito did look great in the tux and he's quite a good actor. He's such a sweetie here and play a horrible bully on Mi Corazón Es Tuyo. You would realize its the same guy but it is. And sorry to hear there were more edits. When you hear that you always wonder if smaller plot points that many of us have watching for were cut out? I hope in the future Univision realizes that too many people are tech savvy and know episodes are being edited and most viewers don't like that.

Oh no my Tono is a jerk in MCET? What is the character's name there?

I guess they had to kill off the baby so there would be no direct descendant of Evil Rodrigo, and I guess they killed Rod with the snakes so Grumps wouldn't have to see him hailed or killed by the police.

Natalia's wedding dress was from the makers of RameraWear.

Brigitte: I find most of these shows punish the beautiful woman who uses her beauty for ambition by destroying her sex appeal. Barbara Greco burnt herself up, Isadora got her tongue cut out, Carmina's legs were amputated, other vixens end up going to jail where their beauty is wasted.

I think Brigitte should have died right along with Rod, but that would've hurt the Carmen character and reinforced Brigitte's argument that she was expendable to Carmen & the Garcias. So they let her live, but without her beauty. And since her beauty was a big part of her ambition, there was no need for her to be so ambitious anymore. She's probably feeling no rich man wants a girl with one leg, she can't model or be an actress and she never had the talent to be a fashion designer like Natalia. For all we know, she might not be able to have anymore children.

Perhaps the children she reads to give her the love and acceptance she doesn't feel she can get from her family. Nobody was missing her at either wedding. Nobody was saying Sure wish Brigitte was here. Brigitte exiled herself from her family emotionally; she did so physically in the end.

Maybe she won't stay in Oaxaca forever. Perhaps she'll find her way back to Tuxpan and marry Andres?

I did notice Angela nor Andres was not there in the end.

Hey Anon207, glad you stopped by. I really enjoy your insights. Yes, the writers probably did remove Brig's baby because the Rod's gene could mean doom. And having Rod die via snake bit means no one had to be responsible for killing him.

I did notice Brig's lack of make up after her rescue and you are right to view that as a typical tn punishment for women who use sex appeal. The children of Oaxaca hopefully do give Brig the love she feels never got. I hope she heals and can return to her family one day.

I wasn't surprised Angela and Andres weren't at either wedding. The writers had made them such meanies by the time each left, it would have been a shock to have them return. Though in my alternative universe, the two returned to being the nice people we meet in the beginning of the tn, meet one another, fall in love, marry, and have a many happy children.

Sorry CS, I don't think the guy who plays Tono has a name over on MCET. He's just one of the two bullies.

LOL Karen it's kool. I need to check out that scene then; he might just be on a acting level like Diego Olivera is with a perfect balance of good and bad.

I would have loved for Angela to show up and in a cool good vibe form ready to party, walk up to Tono and kiss his cheek; here's to co-workers <3 (I can't be the only one who noticed her gazes when he agreed to stalk Abdul and Mali for her.)

In the end, I sort of hoped also that Andres and Simona wouild end up; it would be like Teresa and Manuel from Mi Pecado. Manuel (Andres) was in love with Lucrecia (Natalia) and Teresa (Simona) was in love with Julian (Diego) but in the end, M and T ended up together in love.

Sorry, but I think Simona deserves someone much better than that doofus Andres. He was a nice guy, but thickheaded and she is way out of his league.

Wow! Talk about editing. I saw the finale a long time ago, but here's what I remember:

After Diego tells the toad that he needs to stop pretending he's in London, the idiot takes it even further, looks around for a bar that could pass for an English pub and Skypes Irene from there. He wears a heavy coat and thick scarf, because it's supposed to be cold in London, and Diego is with him. Irene seems excited to be hearing from him, but the dummy asks for Diego, then makes some lame chit chat about the weather. Says it's cold here and Irene goes, yeah, I can tell by the way you're dressed (DUH)! Needless to say, Irene is totally underwhelmed and Diego calls him an imbecil (not that HE could do much better, know what I mean).

Altonto says I know, I know, but I got nervous and didn't know what to say (what are you, 12?) and blew it. So he comes up with an even more brilliant idea.

In the meantime, Irene says it doesn't mean anything that he called, because the call wasn't even for her. Natalia says maybe he was nervous. Irene goes, whatever but then starts to get suspicious that something isn't quite right. She figures out the time difference and realizes it's 4:00am in London, so what is he doing out at a bar at that hour? Voice-of-reason Natalia (who has none when it comes to herself) says his meetings probably ran late and anyway the bar seemed kind of empty.

So on to the brilliant idea: The fool decides that in order not to make Irene suspicious, he'll call her again but this time he'll put a picture of a London view behind him so she'll be convinced he's there. (Is this beyond stupid or what?) His secretary helps him find and set up a beautiful background shot of the London Bridge, sunshine and all - but when he calls (Skypes) Irene, it's nine o'clock at night in London! When she starts asking questions he gets nervous again and pretends to lose the connection. She calls him back and he's so flustered that he tilts the monitor and she can clearly see his diploma on the office wall! Only Altonto!

Also, the bachelor/bachelorette parties were way longer. The guys had the dancer, who must have brought her own pole. They took turns on the pole, including Diego and Morales, and there was a lot of drinking. So much so that Grumps had a creepy, pervy moment as he watched the pole dancer and ended up passed out with the rest of them with nasty lipstick kisses all over his face. The next morning Diego woke up yelling at them because of the black paint all over his body. Grumps was still basking in the aftermath of all the fun, even saying, "we should do this more often." When Morales said he was next to get married the old perv grinned and said, "don't forget me for the bachelor party!" Ewww!

Turns out Einstein (Alonso, who else?) used some black paint spray he found in the garage and they had a hell of a time getting it off and only had time to get it off his face and hands before the wedding.

The women played all kinds of games, drank, learned to belly dance, drank, had musclely village people, drank, danced, drank, and passed out. Woke up with hangovers.

Awesome, awesome Karen.

"cuffed his interfering self"
"think Indiana Jones with a much shorter distance between the people and the snakes" "the fact the Marcelo Córdoba is really big now"

Thank goodness for the El & Carmen romance and wedding because this thing was finished at 8:30 eastern. I didn't have any problem with the improbable resurrection.

Other than Brigitte dying, I agree with Anon207's comments. The way Brigitte was dressed, looked and acted reminded me of a young Nat. Her punishment and reward was to become her sister, but assured of never again confused she her equal.

I changed the channel when Irene showed up at Alonso's apartment and do not understand why he didn't get some anvil for nearly getting El killed by triggering the last chain of events by beating Rod. How is it this guy has not lost his medical license or at least been arrested for battery? I feel sorry for Karina, Oscar and the newborn. Glad we didn't have to suffer through a wedding between he and Irene.

Brilliant, Karen! I have to run, so I'll comment later. Just wanted to say that Anon above is correct. This was a cut down finale. I watched the complete 2 hour finale online instead. Boo, Univision!

@anon at 3:00. Thanks for filling in the blanks with the Alonso and Irene situation. I was wondering why she was so irate and why she asked about the weather. You filled in the blanks, so now I understand it more.

@anon207, I like your breakdown of the Brigette situation. I'm glad she lived though, I didn't want her to die. I also didn't want her to lose a leg, but you're right. It seems these TN like to punish bad people in the end.

Thanks for that lovely opening paragraph saluting Diva's efforts in getting this one up and going. I admit I never would have watched it if it weren't for her. And I didn't get pulled in for several weeks. The Power of One! But how wonderful that she was joined by you, Karen, as well as Sara and Vivi. Quite a team.

"The brothers are in a standoff but Rod and Brig back up onto a trap door/outside cellar type door with several rattle snakes, think Indiana Jones with a much shorter distance between the people and the snakes. It’s bit of a beanie moment to think this somewhat abandoned cabin has an underground shed with rattlesnakes. The snakes bite both Rod and Brig."

Oh my, those snakes WERE convenient. And implausible. But thank goodness, since clearly El and Morales weren't capable of taking Rodrigo down. Thanks Mother Nature!

Missed parts of this as we had a dinner guest but did watch the El death scene in utter shock thinking, Yikes, these dang writers really are going to kill the guy! The most suck-y finale ever!

But El's comeback made me think of many of those near-death episode stories where people are moving toward the light and then are called back by the sorrow of their loved ones. A much older student of mine had an experience like that. And was hesitant to talk about it because many people scoff at this stories, but for her it certainly felt real.

I guess I will try and watch the full two-hour finale on the internet since they hacked up the ending so badly.

But your recap was splendid. Clear, concise, just the right amount of detail and ironic observations.

This blog site is the best and so are the recappers.

I remain baffled by Univision's decision to run la Gata so soon after the horror that was Corazón Salvaje but that will give me a chance to pull some weeds in the evening rather than slouch in front of the TV. (Hmmm..la Gata is sounding better already.)

Thanks Karen. And thanks Diva, Sara and Vivi as well, plus all the wonderful community.

And now, go Bucks!

Karen, what a splendid recapping team this has been and you have been an integral part, amiga. Your insight and wit were on fire here and you did masterful justice to the Gran Final.

"(seriously El you and/or Morales should have cuffed his interfering self)" and "It’s like the writers are daring us to want Al with Irene by showing us what an immature, idiot he is" were but a few examples. Wonderful.

While most of this was wrapped up with a rather lopsided bow, it was fairly satisfying all in all. I enjoyed the weddings and apparant happiness of our characters. I thought Oscar saying the baby looked like him was great fun and it appears this family will be somewhat functional after all.

Initially, I was surprised Brig's new vocation kept her away from the wedding. But, perhaps losing the baby and the accompanying physical and mental trauma was too much. If she is truly repentent and trying to start a new life, needing time to be alone, to heal physically and emotionally may indeed be what she needed. We will never know.

The recaps and comments have been consistently top notch. It is a pleasure and honor to be a part of such a warm and wonderful community.

Thank you Karen!

Diana

I think Brigitte's ultimate punishment was to be exiled away from her family & "replaced" by Natalia. Nobody misses her presence. Even Mushroom was at Natalia's wedding and not by Brigitte's side.

Nobody exiled her and she would've been welcome to join family festivities. But the thing she feared most, that everyone prefers Natalia over her, came true b/c of HER actions. Brigitte built that!

So Brigitte needs to find a community and build a family of her own that prefers HER and cares for her. I joked she should go back to Tuxpan and find Andres but no. Brigitte needs to find her own way.

Simona is a beautiful young exec at Telerman so she will find someone on her level.

Angela was supposedly good friend so she should've been at Nat's wedding but I guess being rejected by Abdul was too much for her.

I'm glad Irene and Alonso were not married in the end. Irene May never marry Alonso but just be with him.

Andres will marry the new Fish Queen of Tuxpan and settle down

Anon@1:52 am, ITA about Simona and Andres. I'm just happy she wasn't eliminated so Nat and Diego could get together.

Anon@3:01 am, wow, thanks for the update. The episode seemed choppy and now we know why. While I am once again disgusted that Uni would shaft us viewers (we live in a world where people usually want to see more of a show they like not less, that's what DVD extras are all about), based on what you described I don't think I want to see the full version. So much time wasted on Aloser. Honestly that would have made the final really painful for me.

Thank so much for filling us in on what we missed!!

tofie, ITA that El and Carmen finally getting together was wonderful. As a huge fan of both actors, I was happy their characters finally got together.

I get turning the channel when Irene showed up at the apt and you are right about the true tn magic was him not getting his license revoked. It does seems somewhat ironic that Uni cut most of the Aloser scenes.

Vivi, thanks for stopping by and the heads up about the edit.

Bryan, an unfortunate trend we've noticed is that the bad male characters are usually are killed at the end whereas most of the female baddies live but are disfigured in some way. Yet these women often haven't killed anyone so the punishment doesn't always seem fair.

Judy, thanks for your kind words and sharing the story about your friend. I too have heard/read some of these and find them fascinating. Though here it kind of made me feel even worse for Big Al because he had no one to call him back (yeah, I know his death had different circumstances but still). Enjoy college football season!!

Diana, thanks for your kind words and being such an encouraging presence in our community. Despite the edits, the ending was satisfying. Though I must admit, I wonder if in the edits things like Brig's final resolution (will she come home after a year or so, once she has healed) got cut out as well.

Once again Anon207 great insights and I like your endings for folks.

Though the real Angela would have been at Nat's and possibly Carmen's wedding, her character assassination made neither feasible. She suddenly become this obsessive, villainous person who just disappeared one day. Bad writing.

And I'm very happy we didn't have to endure Irene marrying the doctor, who should not be practicing.

Karen, whatever happened to Diego's crazy ex girlfriend in the TN ?

Karen, amiga, what a lovely opening paragraph! I am so happy that you have been a part of this super group of recappers. All of you ladies just fit so nicely with each other. It was one seamless story night after night. This has always been a "happy place" for me to enjoy each morning. :))

Anon@ 0301, Holy Cow! Thank you so much for filling in so many blanks! I don't think I will ever understand why Univision loves to chop things up, but in this case, not having to see that loser Alonso is fine by me.

He is an A-1, first class LOSER. I'm glad the writers didn't insult us with an Irene/Alonso wedding. That would certainly have been El Colmo.

Irene just seemed so dumbed down to me in the very end, so I will go with Anon207's endings for all of the characters.

I'm glad that they didn't kill Fish Lips Brig, but an emotional or mental punishment would have been better instead of the physical punishment she received.

I'll miss the Garcias and I will miss dear little Lupita most of all.

MCET is the only thing interesting me right now (only because of the actors and not the story). I know our dear gringo is probably thrilled to see the Arenas/Perroni match up, but this seems like another CI rerun, so I doubt I will even give that story a second thought...unless 5FT drags me in like she did on this one.

"Hasta el Fin..." doesn't interest me,either. As Cynderella said, the male lead is a "mutt"! Every time I see the guy, I see a mutt!

Anywho...thank you to our wonderful recappers and to this lively and happy community of people. You have brought a smile to my face each and every day!

Fatima

Conservative Democrat, do you mean Diana?

Diego married Diana (in the church, which is why she had to die).

They were getting along, but Diana was cheating on Diego with Gigolo Gay Cousin.

Diego stopped sleeping with Diana & basically dumped her when Natalia came back into the picture.

Diana became pregnant & it was revealed to be Diego's child.

Diana was drinking & partying while pregnant. Karina let Diego know about it, which ended her relationship with Diana.

Diana was anorexic & lost the baby but realized without the baby Diego would dump her, so she lied about still being pregnant.

At Eskenda's fashion show, Diana tried to run down Natalia with her car, hit a pole and died.

Later the doctor revealed Diana was not pregnant at the time of her death.

The only TN I've seen where neither main villain died was AMOR BRAVIO where both the male & female main villains ended up in jail (the female was disfigured).

We never did see Lala, Hilda or Tiburcio again.

Brig's anvil was very BIG: losing her baby and her leg.

Deep down, everyone was glad Brig wasn't at the wedding for Diego and Nat.

Besides Nat and Brig, how many other kids does Carmen have ?

Anon207, you are right! Holy Cow. I completely forgot about Tiburcio, Hilda, and Lala...and what about the secretary who knew about the will...and WHY was the will never brought up again or did I miss that part?!

Fatima

Did anyone notice in the scene where Diego's voiceover is reading the note about Vicente having other plans for him, Vicente is in the background somewhat in eyeshot behind Natalia giving a Grumps stare?

While on the topic of Grumps, I loved his man crush on Morales LMAO.

Carmen has 4 bio kids and Natalia. In age order:

Abdul (father: Abdul)

Natalia (foundling; bio parents Irene & Tadeo)

Brigitte (father: Paul)

Paolo (father: Gino)

Lupita (father: Chato)

Rosa was at the wedding.

The will was never brought up again.

Brigitte's anvil was heavy. Even the baddie Fernando on PSMA only got life in prison and someone poked his eye out and he had escaped before so probably will again. This guy ruthlessly killed multiple people, made one of his ex wives miscarry by having her car tampered with, impregnated and abandoned another wife while married to another woman, kidnapped his young son and tried to kill him, slept with the oldest sons gf and almost married her for a trust fund and then tried to kill him, shot and buried alive his long time lover and accomplice, stalked and terrorized and embezzled and stole millions.

OK. Now that I'm back from zumba, I can comment properly.

MIL GRACIAS, Karen! I really appreciate how you took time out from the course you were taking, and the book you are writing to give us your wonderful recaps. It was a pleasure being on a recapping team with you, amiga.

I watched the online finale last night because I came home to find that I had forgotten to set the dvr for this show. DOH! All I can say is, Morales has skills on the pole! I think the guys did more pole dancing than the stripper did. :)

Lupita convincing the Padre to play poker was another favorite little scene. They've got to watch out for that one. I am certain she's a poker shark.

As for Brig and Rod-- How appropriate that they fell into a nest of vipers, since they both acted like vipers for most of this tn. Good riddance to Rod. No one needed him around anymore. By the way, Rod and Diego have identical DNA, so the loss of Rod's baby does not get rid of whatever defect that caused his evil. :)

I wish Brig hadn't lost her leg, but Paul will ensure she gets a good prosthesis (those things are pretty awesome these days), and it was also stated that he would be joining her in some of her work. So she's not alone. She and her papa can really bond, for real and not over his money. And she can learn what it's life to give of herself. She might end up becoming the most impressive Garcia yet. I'm glad they didn't show her instantly being in the center of all the family joy. It's going to take time for both her and her family to find a new way to interact with each other.

As for Nat replacing Brig...Nat was there first. No one in that family makes a distinction between the bio kids and the adopted kids, except Brig. Nat doesn't need to take Brig's place.

I was deeply disappointed that the time they spent with Grumps was him getting loopy about the stripper, instead of revealing to his kid and grand-kids that he stole their inheritance. Badly done writers.

Other than that, I enjoyed the weddings and seeing most of the characters happy.

Tks so much to all recappers.
The writers didn't have Grumps fess up about the will because they were too busy with Nat & Diego breakups & forgot about it.

All in all, this was not a bad TN just tooooo long.

Juan Diego did a commendable job. Livia Brito is gorgeous. Marcelo had to run over to La malquierda to be killed off in ep 1 which I believe is probably fortunate for him.
Tks again everyone, mucho fun

I'm just going to throw in another comment here. The guy who played Diego and Rodrigo did a great job! When I first started watching, I really thought they were twins until they had a scene together and then it became obvious it was the same person. I really appreciate the work he did pulling that off.

Tofie, keep in mind he had his now deceased at his hands, long time lover and accomplice help him escape the first time. In the end, he remained alone and his only other accomplice alive was in the slammer with him but was the one to gouge his eye out as well. His suffering in that aspect and so on was only the beginning. I guess when they say maximum security jail they mean it.

At first I flat didn't like Carmen but boy was I wrong. If it weren't for she and El (& Lupita) despite the sillyness getting them together, this puppy would have gone into the tank for me. What a feel good when they married (and I don't like TN weddings) and the scene on the bed with moon and stars sealed it.

They lost me on the Diego, Rod, Natalie threesome and lit'l Al was a joke. I do agree Juan Diego Covarrubias did a great job playing the twins. Not with you guys about Livia Brito. She is a good crier though.

Perhaps, CS, but that was one slick operator and he likely to began an online romance with some woman who will fall in love with him by correspondence, sell her home and fight god and everybody for his release and a prosthetic eyeball.

Lol, JudyB...thank you. One smartass can change the world...but a team is always more fun!

Anon207, I had a similar thought about Nat's dress. I didn't like how they'd outlined the top like it was a bra. It's too bad we didn't get to see her in Irene's original Ode To Ruffles, but I guess after the incident with Brigitte that was never going to happen.

I would have been happy to have less of some of the goofy stuff and more about Brigitte. There must be some story to why she ended up in Oaxaca working on a literacy program for kids. Did she meet a kid from Oaxaca while she was doing physical therapy? What was the inspiration? There are a million different volunteer opportunities and charities she could have gotten involved with. I think learning more about why she chose this one would have been more interesting than some of the shenanigans that were cut, and the ones that were shown. On the one hand losing her leg seems like a "punishment" that's too severe for what she did, on the other hand it seems to have been a blessing in disguise for her. I like that she's getting a chance to start over and that she's taking that chance instead of just getting bitter and cranky. Maybe she'll hook up with some cute, sweet volunteer in Oaxaca...and now that she's had more life experience she'll know not to mistreat him and will value kindness over cash.

"Here’s to that type of gag not happening a tn again."

Amen, Karen!!!

Really great recap!!

Kat really must have read my mind about this fin, because I had exactly the same thoughts as I watched (especially about Cunchetina.)

Bryan-I second Karen's suggestion about Amorcito Corazon. I kind of wish DQTQTQ could have been as well done. I enjoyed it, but Amorcito was a little better.

This is the second Lucero Suarez production I've seen and in each one the wedding/reception scenes have just been loads of fun. It's like they decided to make that filming day a party and everyone seems like they are playing and not working (like it's the cast party.) It makes me think it must be a lot of fun to work on a Lucero Suarez show.

The party looked like fun, but I also thought I noticed a lot of tears that weren't necessarily "happy wedding tears." Like this was the last day of filming and everyone was a little sad to say goodbye to the people they'd spent so much time with for the last several months.

Hey Sara, I think I might catch that TN, I hate coming in the middle of Shows though.

I agree with you 5ft, they definitely should have spent more time on Bridgette than on those other wasted moments. I also think that it was too much for her to lose her leg. I wanted her to pay for all the things she has done but losing her baby and leg were too much. I also hope that the leg she was using isn't her permanent prosthesis leg because they have much more realistic ones than that. Her father is wealthy so I'm sure he could afford one of the best for her.

Thanks, Karen, for this final recap. I bailed non this show awhile ago, but I appreciate the wonderful recapping team and want to say thanks to all of them.

Rod was a snake , so his death by snake was poetic. However, I think Brat's karma was too severe. Losing both her baby and her leg was a high price to pay for her greed, deceit, and jealousy. I used to have my students write about their most valuable possessions , and one guy wrote about his prosthetic leg.

I am sorry that I did not get to see the receptions. Carla Estrada staged a big party for the finale of Alborada with the cast , the crew, and their relatives. It looked like everyone was having such a wonderful time.

Well, I am now recording La Malquerida and following the recaps. I hope to see some of you folks over there.

Hi CD, the only crazy lady in Diego's life was his former wife, who died, Diana. Recently there was Simona but she was not crazy.

Fatima, thanks for your kind words. I am grateful we had such a great group as the writers made so serious misfires, like Al. At least we could mock him and marvel at how Marisol del Olmo, the actress playing Irene, did make it seem she loved this guy.

Anon207, thanks for reminding us that Lala, Hilda, and Mr. T just vanished. Another plot point that could have been covered.

Steve Boudreaux, thanks for stopping by. Yes, Brig anvil was huge and I would agree with tofie, Vivi, and others that it was too much for her crimes. But as I have noted here and others on other blog threads, it seems the female baddies are really punished.

Vivi, thanks for your kind words and hope you enjoyed your Zumba class. So one of the few gems we missed was Morales and his dancing skills. That's a pity. But happy we didn't have to see Vicente being creepy w/the stripper.

Variopinta, ITA that this one was too long. But its so wrong that the writers/producers have this length and then don't wrap up stuff they focused on earlier.

Kat, ITA about the plot. Why have the couples keep breaking up for the umpteenth time when you could resolve the will, explain how/why Brig made the choices she made at the end of the tn, or show the nice characters they banished are doing well? And yes some of the tears did look like the last time we'll be together on set.

Sara, thanks for your thoughtful compliments. Lucero Suarez's sets or at least the reception scenes do seem like a blast.

Susanlynn, thanks for coming by!! The receptions were truly the high point of this episode.

Gah! Natalia's hair for Carmen's wedding was ... yikes! And for her own wedding ... double yikes!

Something else they didn't show was Carmen loving the design of her wedding dress that Nat and Irene came up with (which was really ugly). But the one she actually wore was nice.

They also didn't show: the police comandante that took El off the case got fired or transferred (he was walking out of the precinct with a box full of his belongings.

Also edited out was the old man eating (and loving it) at la fonda and EVERYONE including Vicente playing charades!

Anon@9:54 thanks for adding other bits that were edited out. It would have been nice to see El's boss fired and Vicente playing charades.

Thanks Karen for a great recap of the final chapter that had me scratching my head there for awhile. With my limited Spanish it seemed like all fantasy to me. I had no idea why Nat was having visions of the men in Carmen's life, nor why she visualized herself being pregnant. The floating beds added to my "what the heck is going on here?" confusion. You did a fine job of retelling that. Even though I noticed that Brig wasn't at the wedding celebrations, I had no idea why, even though I had seen the scene with the children. I'm glad I taped it because I went back and rewatched the episode with a much better understanding and appreciation. I've enjoyed the camaraderie and I'm very grateful to the recappers for hanging in there when the going got rough, C- is the best grade I can come up with for the novela itself. (No reflection on the recappers)
Question: Is someone going to recap "La Gata?" Thanks

Sara and I are going to cover La Gata, but we could always use more help! We're not up on the sidebar yet, but the tag is "gata."

The synopsis post is here.

Karen, thank you for this excellent recap. I am in awe of you recapper's skill and commitment.

I was surprised that Lupita suggested poker. I would have thought she would have whipped out three walnut half shells and a pea.

I was hoping that at Nat and Diego's reception, Rosa would have whipped out the will and said, "Look what I have for your wedding present."

I think Brig's delusions were so extreme that the writers felt compelled to treat her so badly. She had had plenty of chances to reform before.

This recapping team has been superb. I thank each of you very much. And of course 5ft, where would we have been had you not trudged through those early episodes?

David

I was hoping that at Nat and Diego's reception, Rosa would have whipped out the will and said, "Look what I have for your wedding present."

I've been thinking about that stupid will for most of the weekend (when I wasn't grading papers.)

I've pretty much come to expect forgotten plots and untied loose ends when it comes to TNs, but this has got to be the biggest one they've I've ever seen.

And one of the greatest things we should thank Diva for, is her great formula for titles. Man, I can remember nights when I couldn't come up with an appropriate title to save my soul but Diva made it easy for all the recappers.

Sara, the only reason I can come up with for not finishing the will subplot is that Grumps had been so completely reformed from his former iteration that they did not want to beat him down further, and his health is so precarious that ownership of the family business has become a moot point; we are to believe that with his imminent death, the ownership will pass to Irene, Diego and Nat.

However, if he gets together with that stripper, she may inject a lot of extra time into his life (?).

David

Yes, JudyB! It really does make it easier. I don't know what I'll do with La Gata. Not a lot of wiggle room. If anyone is clever enough it's Kat.

Oh boy...no pressure :D I'm really going to be missing this show tonight. Starting a new one is like driving a new car...everything works pretty much the same, but it feels funny and you don't quite know where everything is.

I know what you mean!! I don't know about you, but I'm also usually still "mourning" the show that just ended...

...though I'm not mourning DQTQTQ as much as others. Just sayin'.

The first week is always hard for me, too because you have to be a little more detailed because so much is being introduced.

PS: I've been thinking of "theme" titles all day.

La Bata (there better be a bathrobe episode.)

La mata (some girl better get killed.)

La pata (there's a cat, we might be able to use this...or maybe there will be a girl duck.)

After that, I got nuthin'.

I'm mourning something, for sure...what the show could have been, what we missed because of the attention paid to the leads when the secondary characters were more interesting. I'll miss Lupita, for sure. Just when everybody's getting their act together, as artificial as it may be, we're getting cut off from seeing the good times.

I'm sure Uni left some great stuff on the cutting room floor.

Sue NY, thanks for your comments and kind words. Overall ITA w/your grade for the tn but it showed such promised. I think that is the greatest disappointment. Hopefully the next tn you watch will be better quality. Thankfully you will always have a great community here on the blog.

David, thanks for your kind words and comments. The scene you envisioned w/Rosa and the will was hilarious....if only.

Yes, Sara the will was a glaring plot point omission. Based on the fluff we got, there was no excuse for it not to be addressed.

And Kat, I understand the mourning for what could have been. There were interesting secondary characters and their lives could have been more developed and keep all of us from another break-up. I hope you have fun w/La Gata.

I love the recaps here also I would recomend everyone to see the ending that aired in mexico it is very fun and makes sence of all the characters and thank you so much for the recaps
