Santa Lucía is a small town where everyone knows each other and rumors spread like wildfire. Here live two families and over the years they have had many differences and accumulated resentments.
Our tale begins at the hacienda Las Ánimas where the baptism of Cristóbal (Pablo Lyle...eventually), the first born of Severiano Mendoza (Alexis Ayala) and his wife Candela (Alejandra Barros) is being celebrated. The family is rich, powerful and respected in Santa Lucía and the entire town is present for the party.
That same day Raymundo and Roberta Alcocer (René Strickler and Susana González) are celebrating the baptism of their little daughter Aldonza (Michelle Renaud...eventually) at the local church. Raymundo is very hardworking, but with a strong character and Roberta, his wife, is a rude and tasteless woman. She is resentful. She's also Severiano's lover.
One day Raymundo discovers his wife and Severiano together making love. Furious, he beats Severiano within an inch of his life. Roberta in the midst of this chaos kills her own husband, saving the life of her lover.
From that moment on, the relationship between Severiano and Roberta gets complicated, creating a deep hate between the two. Aldonza and Cristobal grow up in a world of rancor without knowing the real reason for the hatred between the two families.
The two young people, despite the disapproval of the families, try to build their love. But Severiano, the most respected man of the town, in a most cowardly and low way makes Roberta, her sister Adelina (Lisset) and Aldonza flee from Santa Lucia with no explanation, breaking Cristobal's heart.
Years later, Aldonza returns with her Aunt Adelina to Santa Lucia as an agronomist and finds out that Cristobal has married with his cousin Valeria (Thelma Madrigal)
La Sombra del Pasado,is a drama produced by Mapat that will capture you with its intense story, agile narrative and great acting in the beautiful locations of Verazruz, Puebla and the state of Mexico.

The cast looks really good to me. It's not mentioned in the post, but Cynthia Klitbo is in this. I've said before that I will watch her file her nails.
And honestly I'm kind of secretly pleased it's a little dark. Does that make me a sick puppy?
Oh! And Pablo Lyle!
I am so excited! Susana Gonzales is back! My fave.
I'm really looking forward to being part of the 7:00 community again, especially since Kat and Sara will still be recapping.
I loved La Malquerida and am happy to have this to look forward to.
I have never seen Pablo Lyle but from what you are saying Sara, he bears watching.
Diana
I've liked Pablo since UFCS and that's saying something because he was pretty naco-d up in that one.
Interesting that he will be (for a while) paired with Thelma Madrigal. They were an item in PSMA...even if she did sleep (unknowingly) with his dad (who he thought was dead.) Good times.
I love Susana...but I'm a little worried because I think she will be kind of a baddie in this and the last time I saw her as a villain I *reeeeaalllly* hated her. I'll have to get her PSMA and AV roles out of my head.
When she is good she is very very good but when she is bad...she is amazing.
Diana
We're in for a treat with Alexis Ayala and Alejandra Barros as Severiano and Candela.
Jarocha
I'm looking forward to seeing Alexis Ayala, Alejandra Barros, & Susana Gonzalez.
I'm with you, Mauricio. I do have my favorite actors, but it's fun to see new faces!
Their faces are nice, too.
Because this looks dark-ish, I'm sort of surprised it's on at 7e/6c time, the usual hour for telenovelas suitable for mixed age-group viewing.
I loved Piel de Otoño! And it was on at the same hour, IIRC.
And René Strickler gets killed off early on? Wah.
If they change their minds, I can just take down the post ;-)
doris-I'm glad you'll be joining us!
I am specifically asking now because I see that Susana Gonzalez is listed as having 'special participation' in this upcoming Uni TN opposed to just being listed as a regular part of the cast. I think she's fabulous especially when playing someone unhinged/broken/desperate which she looks to be playing here so initially I figured I was in for sure (despite the fact that the last thing I need is to add another tn to my schedule) but now I worry that her role is going to be brief or small (possibly by choice) which is why I'm asking what that term usually means in general.
Thanks for any clarification.
I agree with Sara--we're as sure as we can be about them following through with putting this show at this time, given their odd handling of the Gata premiere, but if things happen, we'll adjust.
I like it, I saw parts of El Manantial so I remember certain events but I think the old fans won't be as mad as I was while watching Abismo de Pasión and seeing the storyline from Cañaveral de Pasiones get ruined. At least not yet from the episodes I'm currently watching.
The older generation is great (we've seen their work before so I expected nothing less) and the young ones are ok. Renaud takes a moment to really get into character but I think she settles quite well as the episodes go on. Lyle is a little green but not too bad and he is cute (he's not Mauricio Islas though) and I like the town they are using, it reminds me of my dad's hometown.
Jarocha
I have never seen La Manantial, so I don't think I'll be disappointed that way.
I am looking forward to the locations, too.
There seems to be something about more recent tns that have to have a multi-year time jump de rigeur with two sets of actors. I like the way Quiero Amarte is handling the back and forth. It takes place in the present, but you know when there is a flashback to the past by the sepia-toned scenes and different sets of actors (well, except for the main lead, who plays her own mother in the flashbacks).
I'm anxious to see if I like Lisset any better here than I did in LQLVMR or Amor Bravio.
Sara and CorazonS--have you abandoned QA? We miss you both.
I have to confess that it has been a week or two (or three) since I watched QA. I've lurked and read some comments, but now I'm afraid I'm too far behind. Maybe I'll watch my recording of the latest episode and ask a bunch of questions.
I also confess that I am very shallow and I stopped watching because I really can't stand the sound of Karyme's voice.
The first time that I saw Susana Gonzales was in La Que No Podia Amar. She rocked my world and has ever since
Protagonist or villain I don't care Susana is super great in all of her roles. She has so much talent that she just can't be tied down to one or the other. Good girl bad girl whatever, Susana rocks them all.
La Sombra Del Passado---You bet the gringo is in.
Diva---20 episodes? PLEASE say it isn't so. Well 20 episodes or 120
If Susana is in the cast, the gringo will have a front row seat
and you can take that to the bank.
I'm counting the days to the start
the gringo
Mondays - Eli
Tuesdays - CorazonSalvaje(;
Wednesdays - Me
Thursdays - Sara
Fridays - Lila
Let me know if there are any corrections!
18 days to go!
"I'd watch Cynthia Klitbo file her nails"...me too! Let the filing begin!
