La Sombra Del Pasado #19 3-13-15 Return to Santa Lucia

Aldonza seems fortified with an inner resolve as she tells Tia Adelina that she is returning to Santa Lucia and if Adelina is uncomfortable, she can stay behind.    Tia matches the resolve and tells Padre Gerònimo she will be ready in ten minutes.

Over at Las Animas Cris and Emanuel discuss the hiring of the good for nothing Abelardo.  Cris almost feels as if his Dad hired him just to aggravate him.  When asked, they tell Melesio who they’re talking about.   Melesio reminds them Sev is the boss but if Abelardo really turns out to be good for nothing, he will be the first to advise Sev.  Melesio leaves.

Emanuel senses there’s something more to Cris’s sour mood.  Cris tells him it was the same night he returned home that he caught Abelardo messing with Aldonza:  he had to intervene and that is what started his involvement with her.  Somewhat surprised, Emanuel asks if he really was that bonded to her?  Yes, it was very special to him.  Emanuel asks more special than with Valeria?  Things are different now.  He’s going to marry Valeria but with Aldonza. . . well, things never got that far and then there are all those problems between the families.  He hopes wherever she is that she is doing well.  Emanuel listens earnestly as Cris’s gaze has wandered to an unseen might have been.

Inside the hacienda Candela hears the raucous call of Prudencia.  Candela calls back that she is in her bedroom.  Pru rushes in, breathless; she’s got some curious news.  Candela stops to listen.  Well, Pru was going to see Padre G about flowers for the wedding. . .Cande, unsmiling tells her she’s already done it.  Pru lies that she didn’t know.  At any rate, Padre G is away on a family emergency and it is unknown when he’s going to be back.  Here’s the juicy part:  it must have something to do with Roberta Lozado or her daughter, Aldonza.  Cande sniffs she couldn’t care less, gets up and leaves .  Pru follows her.  She thought Cande might be interested because at one time Aldonza was involved with Cris and she herself is good friends with Padre G.  Well, Pru is dying of curiosity because his leaving urgently must mean something has happened to one of them.  Cande announces they could all drop dead for all she cares.  Cande cautions her not to run around wagging her tongue about this but I almost get the impression that she wants her to.  Any thoughts?

Aldonza, Adelina and Padre prepare to leave for Santa Lucia.  Renato arrives.  Aldonza, clutching the silver urn, tells him she’s returning to her puebla to inter the ashes of her Mom.  She doesn’t know when she’ll return.  Renato wishes them well and tells Aldonza he will wait for her.

Melesio has kept his word to talk to Sev about Abelardo.  Even mules can be useful once you know how to control them is Sev’s strategy.  He wants Abelardo to aggravate Cris.  Melesio is to give Abelardo tasks which seem important, which seem to require decision making.  This will serve to awaken in Cris a sense of protective ownership toward Las Anismas and thus he'll decide to stay!  Melesio tells Sev he doesn't think this is the way to go about it but, of course, will do as he's told.

Cande and Pru descend the regal staircase in Las Animas while Pru prattles on about the impropriety of Padre G leaving as he did during the planning of The Wedding of The Century.    Cris and Valeria’s wedding is like that of Prince Charles and Lady Diana.  Cande suppresses a snicker.  Pru feels her desires, as Mother of the Bride, have not been given due consideration.  Pru then lays out her idea of El Santuario as the wedding venue.  Cande handily shoots the idea down as impractical.  The wedding will be held at Las Animas.  Pru’s attempt at asserting her place as Mother of the Bride has failed, Cande almost shoos her out the front door.

Aldonza, Adelina and Padre are aboard the bus to Santa Lucia.  Aldonza relives the scene at the waterfall where Cris declared he is the master of his own heart and that he would not let the shadow of the past effect their destiny or separate them.  “And I will never, never stop loving you.”  As she remembers the kiss, they arrive and disembark.  Aldonza, clutching the urn remembers the day she left Santa Lucia and Cris calling to her not leave.  So many memories she sighs heavily.  Padre G leads them on, noting Aldonza looks tired.

Sweet Emanuel stops by Vale’s bedroom to talk to her.  She never misses an opportunity to taunt and mock him.  Used to her abuse, he ignores it and tries to have a heart to heart with her about whether it is true love that moves her to marry Cristobal.  She blows him off and invites him to leave.  Emanuel drops that subject but tells her he just wants to warn her that Abelardo will be working at Las Animas starting in the morning.  Valeria’s smirk turns to concern.  Val demands to know why he’s warning her.  “As I’ve told you a million times, even though you don’t believe it, all I want is your happiness.”  Emanuel leaves, Val is unmoved.  Or rather, she is moved to immediately call Abelardo to tell him to meet her ASAP:  she’s got to talk to him NOW!

Padre G, Aldonza and Adelina arrive at the parsonage within the Church at Santa Lucia.  Aldonza reluctantly parts with the urn containing Roberta’s ashes.  Padre will take them to the Church.  Aldonza feels the weight of the return to Santa Lucia.  Adelina comforts her.

Cris arrives at Vale’s just as she’s about to dart out to meet Abelardo.  She says she’s not going anywhere.   Cris has the pictures for the banns and wants them to go see Padre G right away as tomorrow will be a busy day.  Vale asks if he can’t go alone.  Pru has entered and tells them Padre G isn’t in town anyway, he had to attend to an urgent family affair.  At this last phrase Cris visibly twitches and his eyes brighten.  Well, in that case he’ll head back to the hacienda and if he runs into him, then fine.  Pru invites Cris to make himself at home.  He asks for a beer.  In perfect rustic barmaid fashion, Pru yells for the servant to bring one.  Vale’s mission is delayed.

Despite her glassy-eyed and somewhat vacant stare, Aldonza’s resolve has not flagged.  Adelina wants to return to the D.F. first thing in the morning after interring Roberta’s remains.  Aldonza doesn’t want to think about that now.  Adelina thinks it is not wise to tarry, the last thing they need is to have to start explaining why they are back in Santa Lucia.  Aldonza says she is there to make sure her parents rest together in peace and she owes nobody an explanation and does not need permission to do so.  This time she is not going to leave like a fugitive.  Adelina cannot hide her distress and asks how long she wants to stay.  Aldonza doesn’t know.  She just can’t think about it right now and repeats that Tia may return to Mexico if she wishes.  Aldonza leaves as her Tia calls after her.  She wants to be alone.  This must feel so familiar to Adelina, calling to a dark-haired beauty not to go out into the night.

Lola is unusually sedate as she enters the kitchen at Las Animas where Dominga is preparing dinner.  She’s downright down in the dumps.  Lola tells Dominga about the run in with Valeria, that Vale yelled at her and slapped her.  Dominga demonstrates, slapping the air, that she should have given her one back!  Lola says she did and Dominga approves:  she believes in not turning your back on an assault and giving back as good as you get!

Aldonza enters the calm, embracing solace of the Church, kneels and crosses herself.  In the background we see the silent figure of Cris approaching.   She prays that God give her the strength to fulfill her promise and closes her eyes, absorbed in Divine Grace.  Suddenly sensing a presence Aldonza turns and stands.  “Cristobal.”  Their eyes meet.

Back with Lola and Dominga, Lola is bummed and can’t see what Cris sees in that heifer!  Cris is not the only one taken with her, Emanuel is, too.  She confides in Dominga that she has tried everything to get Emanuel’s attention and everything falls flat!  That’s the problem:  she must stop trying to force things and let them develop naturally.

Cris and Aldonza continue to look steadily in each others eyes.  He says he never thought he would see her again.  She answers why not, it is where she was born and raised and where her family lived and she has every right to return.  Moving slightly towards him, she asks if her presence bothers him.  Not at all, he answers, he is just surprised to see her back after having been gone for so long and the way that she left.  She asks if she has to advise him or ask his permission to come back to her home town.  She turns her back to him and he reaches out to grasp her arm, to turn her back to face him.  Aldonza avoids his grasp just as Padre G enters, expressing surprise at seeing him.  Cris gives Padre the photos and excuses himself, never taking his eyes off Aldonza.   Each one’s gaze magnetically holds the other though Cris’s seems more charged than Aldonza’s.  After Cris leaves Aldonza asks Padre to do her a favor and warn her when he’s going to meet with Cris so she doesn’t have to run into him again.  Padre receives this insistent petition with a smile!  Aldonza leaves to go finish unpacking and hopes Padre will return soon so they can eat dinner together.

Uriel and Irma show us how a loving couple relates:  Uriel frets over Abelardo’s taking the job at Las Animas, Irma tries to allay his doubts and encourage him to give Abelardo a chance.  Irma thinks this may be a chance for Abelardo to grow up.  Uriel wants to go talk to him right then but he’s out “with friends.”   Irma distracts him with a massage.

Abelardo is out with one “friend.”  Valeria.  She has kept him waiting for an hour!  She tells him to “sit!”  It is an absolutely beautiful night overlooking what I guess is the town square.  There is a gorgeous, humongous floral clock in the background.  It is 9:35 p.m.  As Vale admonishes Abelardo not to let on that there was ever anything between them, Cris appears below and has a perfect view of where they sit in front of a window overlooking the square.

Adelina admires the beautiful locket with the picture of Roberta and Raimundo that Roberta gave to her the day she passed her professional exam.  Now she can have her parents together with her, close to her heart at all times.  Adelina fears she has said something hurtful and asks what troubles Aldonza.  Aldonza tells her she saw Cristobal in the Church just now and she didn’t like the way he spoke to her, he was kind of short.  The Mendozas think that because they own the town people have to ask them permission to come and go!  Now Adelina assumes the same amused smile that Padre did a moment ago:  Is she sure it’s not that she was moved by seeing him again after so much time?  (My picture often pixilates and the sound messes up as well, so I missed something here).  Aldonza says she and Cristobal are not the same people and she’s afraid that he’s becoming a despot just like his father.  Adelina goes off to finish dinner preparations.  Aldonza looks thoughtfully at the locket Roberta gave her and then at escapulario she has worn since she was an infant.

Cris walks up to Abelardo and Valeria and asks what she is doing there.  She was going to meet him at the church and ran into Abelardo and was just chatting.  Does it bother him?  Cris coolly approves of good relationships with their employees.  Abelardo agrees with a sarcastic “patron”.  Cris reminds him he is to report first thing in the morning.   Vale asks him to say “hi” to Mary; the two men exchange stink eyes.  Abelardo hurls the classic novela epithet:  imbécil!

Sitting at her bedside, Aldonza removes the escapulario and is swept back to the waterfall and Cris’s pledge that he would never stop loving her and resumes the kiss just where she left off in the bus.  She takes Roberta’s locket out and puts it around her neck and turns out the light.  Aldonza stands silhouetted against the window and vows that she will never shed another tear for Cristobal.

Cris has walked Vale back to her house.  He assures her he isn’t bothered by her talking with Abelardo, that he trusts her.  She wants to make sure he doesn’t have trouble with her having friends.  He says she is going to be his wife, not his slave.  Vale tells him she hope he’s in a better humor tomorrow because right now, she can’t stand him, and pecks him quickly good night.

Doc has asked to speak to Renato at his office in the clinic.  Renato assures him if it’s about Aldonza’s mother, he doesn’t want to hear it or be involved.  It’s not about that.  Doc wants Renato to try to find Aldonza.  Roberta gave him a letter for her and wants him to deliver it.  Renato takes the open envelope with “Aldonza” simply written on its face.

Late this night Cris is grooming and cooing to one of the horses.  Emanuel approaches and then retreats but then returns and asks Cris if he is okay.  No.  He just saw Aldonza in the Church.  He thought he’d never see her again in his life.  Neither knew she had returned.  Cris shares that it was not pleasant seeing her again after so much time.  Emanuel asks if it stirred up any feelings in him.  Yes, pain and anger!  Emanuel tells Cris he thinks he never forgot her.

“Well I care for (Yo quiero a) Valeria and I’m going to marry her” Cris fires back and walks away!

Emanuel follows him.  “You said it yourself.   "Quieres, pero no la amas”  “You care for her, but you don’t love her” or “. . . you’re not in love with her.”

“Not as much as you?”  Cris stands close, face to face with Emanuel, their eyes on the same level.

“Look Cris, I know perfectly well what my place is in life and where I stand.  Right now, I don’t think you do, especially now that Aldonza has come back into your life, brother.”

“She has reappeared in Santa Lucia, not in my life.”

Emanuel looks at Cris with his (for me) signature steady, searching gaze.  “You think so?  Is that what you think?”  Emanuel extends the gaze one more moment for emphasis and walks away.

The next morning at the University (of Mexico?)  Renato meets Aldonza’s friend, Sylvia, in the stacks to ask for her help in finding Aldonza.  She hasn’t been answering her phone.  Sylvia digs a little and finds out he has a message, and his heart, to deliver to her.  She tells him her town is Santa Lucia.

Suddenly the morning is foggy.  Humberto is walking and talking with Cande about El Santuario.  He wants the property to remain in Valeria’s name.  Cande doesn’t understand why when everything that is Cristobal’s will become hers when they marry!  Cande bristles when he says he wants this done his way!  His way?  Cande thought this was a privilege she alone possessed!  She reminds him that El Santuario was bought with HER husband's money.  He reminds her that legally El Santuario belongs to HIM because had he not let Sev use HIS name, the property would still belong to Roberta Lozado whether she likes it or not.  Having lost this point she calls him an ingrate.  Well,if they are going to talk of favors, she will end up indebted to him:  thanks to him her husband is honored and respected in Santa Lucia.  If he hadn’t saved his neck that night,  the Mendozas would be despised throughout Santa Lucia.  She tells him to shut up and to listen, because she will not repeat it.  It does not serve anyone for them to be at war with one another now that their children are marrying.  If there is a war THEY (the kids) would be the losers.  Humberto doesn’t budge and advises they all better think carefully, doesn’t she agree?  Cande throws her nose in the air, pats her severely plaited hair and walks away, followed by Humberto’s chilly glare.

The next morning Adelina and Padre chat briefly about her and Aldonza’s finances.  Only a little of what Roberta deposited in the bank remains; they have to think about selling or renting the apartment.  Padre G assures them they are welcome to stay in the parsonage as long as they need to while they make these arrangements.

This morning finds Aldonza at her old hacienda.  The front door is boarded shut, once beautiful greenery hangs lifeless and brown from huge planters.  Memories flood back in of the day Cris came to look for her at this very house.  Cris could not get enough of kissing her and locking his eyes into hers; he wouldn’t leave until he made her swear that she would NEVER run away from him again and that whatever life threw at them they would face it together!  She swore and they sealed it, kissing deeply.   The camera pans out to a wide view of the symmetrical, though sad, garden, Aldonza sitting silent and still, like one of the garden statues.

Padre and Adelina are finishing breakfast.  He tells Aldonza he is troubled.  Ever since he picked Aldonza up from the convent, she has seemed very changed, she doesn’t have that same joy or light in her eyes and since they arrived in Santa Lucia, she seems hardened, or frustrated or bitter. . .he just doesn’t know.  Adelina entreats him to give her time.  All this has been so hard for her.  Even though she and her mother had a very difficult relationship, they loved each other with all their heart and soul.  Padre doesn’t doubt that and hopes she can indeed get over this tragedy and find the peace and happiness she so deserves.  Adelina agrees and prays for that every day.

Ah.  The morning is resplendent, awash in sunshine and the misty, crystalline spray of the waterfalls at El Santuario.  Aldonza sits on a boulder pitching pebbles into the water.  Her solitude is interrupted by Cris striding up to warn her that she is on private property.  She answers that it is curious that when her family owned the land, he came whenever it suited him.  She slightly smiles as she says this and has turned to look at him.  He says it’s better if she leaves, his underlings won’t be as accommodating as he is.  She asks if he will remove her by force.  He says if he were the owner, perhaps he would.  Again he says it’s best she leave in a good way.  She asks who the owners are.  He says she knows better than him.  She answers that the only thing she knows is that through an act of abuse her mother was taken advantage of in a time of need and someone bought these lands for nothing.  She asks him does that sound familiar.  He denies knowledge of or care about the transaction, why doesn’t she ask her mother; didn’t she come back with her to Santa Lucia.  Aldonza says that yes, she brought her back with her.  “Then ask her how it all went down so you’ll have the direct answer.  So go now before the owners throw you out.”  Cris walks away.  Aldonza has broken her midnight pledge as her eyes fill with hot tears.  Maybe they don’t count because the tears don’t fall.

Renato has arrived in Santa Lucia and walks with determination through the rain to the Church.  Padre is counseling a tearful young lady, Lu Lu, whom he abruptly dismisses to attend to Renato.  He gets right to the point:  he has a letter for Aldonza from her mother.   He got the letter from his father who was Roberta’s Dr.  Padre offers to give it to her but Renato wants to deliver it personally.  Padre directs him to the parsonage.  Lu Lu comes back to continue her conversation with the Padre.  He puts her off until tomorrow.  The camera lingers for some time on her troubled face.  Random or meaningful?

Abelardo has reported to his first day at work at Las Animas.  Melesio is giving him a verbal orientation when Emanuel playfully interjects that Abelardo knows all about mules but horses, not so much.  Abelardo is not amused.  Cris walks up and suggests Abelardo start at the bottom, get his hands dirty like they all did.  Abelardo baits Emanuel with imbécil and Melesio and Cris have to separate them.   Abelardo tells patroncito to chill; he’s there to learn his business and work hard.  Cris tells him he’d better because at the first screw up, he’s history.   Abelardo pulls Cris aside and tells him that he knows they almost came to blows over Aldonza Alconcer but hey, they should forget it because who remembers that (fill in the blank with any misogynistic slur) anymore.  Cris goes for Abelardo’s throat and pins him against a pillar.  Cris instructs Abelardo through clenched teeth to watch his language and not to ever mention her name again or speak ill of her or he will kill him!  Melesio pulls Cris off and Abelardo looks more stunned than pissed.  Melesio tells Cris it’s not worth it.  Cris asks Melesio’s pardon.  Cris and Emanuel stalk away.  Melesio tells Abelardo he is playing with fire.  He’s been warned.

Cande is pacing and bitching to Sev about her conversation with Humberto.  She thinks Pru is behind Humberto’s position for in Cande’s world, men are puppets.  Sev asks Cande has she really considered whether its in their best interest for Cris to marry her niece.  He doesn’t buy this whole thing of Vale being so in love with Cris.  Sev thinks Vale is very smart, has tallied up all she has to gain and THAT’S what she is after.  Cande protests that Vale is an excellent wife for Cristobal.  Sev asks does that mean she is somebody Cande can manipulate as she wishes?  Cande answers that for one thing she’s content to stay right here in Santa Lucia.  Sev says he doesn’t trust her the way she does.  Already up to mischief, Abelardo approaches and hides behind a pillar to eavesdrop.

Finally, Padre G and Aldonza walk down the center aisle of the church.  He scolds her for having been on the grounds of the old Alcocer place.  He doesn’t want her to get in trouble with the Mendozas especially now that Cristobal.  Padre stops.

“Cristobal, what,  Tio?”  Aldonza sports a smile of amusement.

“Cristobal brought me the papers to begin the process because in two months he’s going to marry Valeria Zapata.”  The smile crashes from Aldonza’s face.

Hi, everybody! Well, we made it back to Santa Lucia. Aldonza has a new exterior toughness but Cris is still able to soften it. Both were acting out of hurt and anger but Cris has NO idea the kind of hurt that has been inflicted on Aldonza. We know he still loves her and Abelardo made a delightful target for his pent up anger.

Renato is in town. What is in the letter?

Aldonza seemed a little flirtatious at the waterfall and dismissive of the threats the Mendozas pose for her in the last scene. How will she react to the news Cris is getting married?

Well, I'll see y'all later! As always, I welcome any corrections!

Oh yea. That highlight was on my Word version, an editing notation and now I can't get the darn thing off the recap.

Any suggestions? If not, just ignore it. Thanks!

Lila- There was a lot going on this episode to get people in the right place (physically and mentally) for Aldonza's return, even Aldonza herself. You captured it all brilliantly! I thought the highlight was on purpose, so I say, let it stay. :)

Aldonza is trying to keep this hard exterior, but like you mentioned, it melts pretty easily when Cris is around. Let's see how she holds up when she meets her biggest enemy, the devil Sever on Monday.

And Cris is also trying to maintain that he feels nothing for Aldonza. No one believes either of them. Padre's knowing smile as he watched both of their retreating backs in the church said it all.

The camera did linger on Lulu, the girl who helps Padre in the church quite a while as she cried. Usually she's just in the background. Maybe she'll have some kind of home problem that causes her to leave her position and one of our other characters starts helping Padre in the church?

And can I just say that I love that Humberto is being a pain in the butt to Cande and Sever about Santuario? Ha! With the lands in his hands, there's a better chance that Aldonza can get them back than if Sever and Cande get them. I wonder who will tell her who bought them? I also wonder what Roberta wrote in that letter.

Didn't Aldonza look like a mermaid sitting on that rock at the falls?

What a fantastic recap Lila. So many intense emotions running through the episode and as Vivi pointed out, you captured all that so well.

Emmanuel seems to be our resident voice of reason. Sad when he himself is bottling up so much hurt that noone except perhaps Lola seems to want to be there for him. Loved the "brother" with Cris. Ahhhh, if he only knew.

So I'm thinking Allie's degree was in agronomy? I could just see as she sat in the devastation of the hacienda that she will be the one able to bring it back to life using the lands and once again creating beautiful gardens. Wish it could be sooner rather than later because the it was unforgivable to see the state of the place.

I love the Padre. Wise old bird, those kiddies weren't fooling him one bit. Perhaps an ally when these two get their heads out of their hurt and need to see each other?

I am convinced Cris already is suspecting that Val is not all she's cracked up to be, but it's more hurt and stubbornness moving him to keep going with the wedding than anything else. Mumsy's pushing doesn't help. Maybe some "guilt" that he already went to the next level with Val and so owes her? Please dear lord, no false pregnancy plots if Val sees the wedding tanking? Please Please Please.

Yeah. Renato. Poor guy will serve as Cris wake up call about Allie, but maybe we can see him with someone else eventually? Seems like such a sweet guy. Crud, forgot Val'sw friend who has the hots for Emmanuel? If he's meant end game for Lola, maybe she can work for Renato. I feel like a matchmaker suddenly.

Daisynjay

Thanks so much, Lila. Your recap read like a novel.Excellent.

Viva, I had the same thought that AL looked like a mermaid sitting on that rock. Isn't there of a statue of Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid sitting on a rock somewhere in Denmark ?

Lardo is a little snake....maybe just the kind of conceited , arrogant opportunist needed to blackmail Valley Girl Val, taunt Cris who rescued his real love from this sleaze , and topple Sev through his stupidity.

Yes, the only people who realize that Em is half brother to both AL and Cris are Sev and Hum. I am hoping to see him as best man at their wedding in the end . I , too, hope that he ends up with Lola.

Lulu looked very upset . I wonder if either Lardo or Sec accosted her. Both have no respect for women.

I guess Sev figures that Val has the right pedigree to Marty into the family, but he somehow seems to have her number. Is something going to happen between Val and Sev ?

''Marry''...not Marty.

Good morning, Peeps!

Thank you, dear Vivi! Yah, Cris and Aldonza have to go through this period of anger and is protective: if not, they would have flown into each others arms and THAT would have gotten around Santa Lucia like the huerto fire and could end up fatal for Aldonza! And that was weird, the focus on Lulu. We'll see!

Yes, I like Humberto. He also said some words in defense of the Alcocer/Lozada women but forgot to put it in. Could there be a check in the letter. Could Roberta have held back some money for Aldonza? Again, we shall see!

Hee hee! She DID look like a mermaid!
********
Thank you, Daisynjay!

Emmanuel seems to be our resident voice of reason. Yes! And it WOULD be appropriate if Aldonza brings the Alconcer gardens back to life. It really is a beautiful property.

Daisy, I loved the sad, but necessary dance Cris and Aldonza were doing. Emanuel, Padre and Adelina will be valuable allies to this couple.

Hee hee! for your matchmaking. I don't want Mary (Abelardo's sister) with Emanuel. She hasn't done anything bad, other than be Vale's friend.
********
Thank you, Susanlynn! Emmanuel is sooo sweet. So much of the time he looks pained but not so when he was speaking truth to Cris! Cris is going to think hard about what Emanuel said!

Anybody else feel the eavesdropping scene was somewhat truncated? I felt like they should have let us understand more clearly what Abelardo listened in on!

I had written my thoughts about Roberta's sad passing on Friday morning. It was my first post and then I went on to two other novelas. Later on I decided to come back to Sombra and re-read my post to see if I had left anything out, but to my surprise, it wasn't there. Floating around in cyberspace somewhere or maybe locked up in a computer solitary confinement jail at some unknown location? Anyway, time had run out for me so I will try again now

I had known from day one or maybe it was before day one that my most favorite actress, Susana Gonzalez had an important part albeit a small or somewhat short part episode wise in La Sambra. But knowing ahead of time, didn't make Thursday nights tragic death of Roberta, while on her way to the hospital any easier for me. Inside me, I was crying out---NO!!
NOT NOW, NOT YET!! PLEASE NO!!! But tragically, yes tragically because Roberta's life, as much of it that we knew was indeed tragic. Roberta Alcocer was no more.
My heart fell all the way to the floor and stayed there all through what remained of the show.
Life without Roberta will be hard
and yet I know that as the story is written, Roberta is the past while Aldonza is the future.
The one good thing through that heart wrenching scene was that Aldonza had just enough time to tell her mother that she loved her and that her past was forgiven. I have a lump in my throat just remembering that scene

I hope that Aldonza will have the strength to carry on as she will need every ounce of it to meet and defeat/overcome the evil and cruelty that will be thrown into her pathway of life. We got a little taste of it, the evil in Friday nights advances.
the gringo

Gracias, Lila! It was a pleasure to start my weekend off with your recap :)

I'm glad that we're still getting little hints and clues of "more to come" and the action hasn't stalled.

"The raucous call of Prudencia" it's like the call of the wild, only more boozy. And the later screaming at the maid for a beer for Cristobal was also a hoot. I do think that Prudencia would love for Candela to go shooting her mouth off and maybe fall off her throne in the eyes of the town. She's being quite open about how much she resents her position as mother of the bride being usurped, but she's still holding back, in a way. Unleash, it Pru! Crack Candela's veneer!

Watching Aldonza with the urn and being so reluctant to let go felt symbolic of my reluctance to let go of Roberta. *Sob*

Hey, I think it's also symbolic that the words that Blogger refuses to un-highlight are about Cris' and Aldonza's eyes meeting! Padre knows they still have the hots for each other, Adelina knows it, and apparently, Blogger knows it, too! I am a little miffed at him for the "ask your mother" dig and resentfully glad that she didn't immediately tell him that her mother is dead. Let him find out on his own and come begging for forgiveness for being an ass.

Severiano's plan to use Abelardo to make Cristobal jealous is diabolically brilliant, in a junior high sort of way. I can see he recognized in Abelardo someone who would respond to being given some authority, even if it's fake, but I think Sev underestimates how much trouble Abelardo can cause, even with only fake authority. Add to that Cristobal and Abelardo locking horns constantly and Sev's running a big risk.

Speaking of Abelardo, I'm a little disappointed that Cristobal didn't get at all suspicious about seeing him with Valeria. But also gratified that his telling Val repeatedly that it was fine seemed to piss her off. How dare he not get all macho and possessive! Yeah, that's just too damn bad, Val.

I'm enjoying watching Humberto stand up to his puppetmasters. He's smart not to put the land in the name of any of the Mendozas, and the more pissed off they get about it, the more they keep reinforcing his decision.

Ah, dearest gringo! Thank you for opening your heart up to us. The way you give yourself so fully to these stories makes you feel like a kindred spirit. It will be hard to say goodbye to Roberta but the actress and the character gave her "daughter" a good foundation, the foundation she needs to face the evil that awaits her.

It's okay if others mention them, but I don't like previews as sometimes I feel they tell too much and leave me with a hangover of anxiety til the next show but for some, that stimulates the appetite! To each his/her own!

Hang with us, gringo. This story is well worth all our time, and our hearts, and we'll enjoy it together!

Thank you, Diva!

Ah, that Prudencia with her yelling, she is a trip! I wonder what she did in her younger life, how Humberto met her. They're not real demonstrative but I think they love each other, unlike that couple, the cold fish and the devil!
I do think that Prudencia would love for Candela to go shooting her mouth off and maybe fall off her throne in the eyes of the town. Okay, I didn't quite get the subtleties of Cande's conversation about the gossip. Thanks!

Yeah, the spooky highlight. I went back to Word, unhighlighted and pasted over it in the blogger html editor and even fiddled with it there and IT WONT GO AWAY! I guess it IS symbolic!

Agree with you on his rude, "ask yo' mama." She DID do right not to tell him!

Wasn't that weird Val getting pissed that HE wasn't pissed. What does she want, some macho chest thumping or him to drag her back to the cave by her hair? Sick chick!

Yes, Diva, Humberto needs a table. He ain't a fool OR puppet!

I'm not ready to give Humberto a table. He's done too much to help Sever/hurt Roberta. But I gladly support him making the lives of Sever and Cande harder.

Lila, Thank you so much for getting this big recap up for our enjoyment and discussion. It was great!

Gringo, the pain you express in your delayed post was, I think, shared by us all. I'm not ready to give Roberta up either.

Diva, I did notice Abelardo's crazy cat shirt, it is crazy reminder how lucky we are not to be staring at that psychedelic mural any more!

About Lulu's tearful visit to Padre J, my guess is that she is "in trouble", and that the guilty party is Abelardo. Just speculatin'.

J in Oregon

J..Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking up Lulu's tears.

Lila, another beautifully written recap. Thank you so much!

" Humberto needs a table. He ain't a fool OR puppet!"

I can't go there with this man. First and foremost, he is a physician. He allowed for physical harm to come to an already emotionally devastated and harmed woman. I can't quite erase that act off my memory banks, yet.

Fatima

Gotcha, Vivi!
********

Hey, J! You are welcome and thanks!

Interesting theory about Lulu!
********

Hi, Fatima! Thank you! Ok, well Bert, there goes your table! Good points Vivi and Fatima. He may defend the Alcocer/Lozada women but he WAS a central figure in their demise which almost led to Roberta's death!

Thanks for the reminders!

Is this novela really going to be 300 capitulos long? If yes then i hope they will do the writing well because long novelas tend to become extremely boring to watch,if its real the novela will be even larger than the first Naruto Anime which was 220 episodes long !

Lila, you covered a packed episode with just the right touch. Thank you so much.

I think Pru worked as a waitress at a hash house/bar/roadside diner where humble medical student Humberto stopped by for lunch and was taken by her saucy energy. She shows herself to be unfamiliar with maneuvering in social situations (with Cande) and her gossiping and boozing are not power habits.

Sev's saying that even a mule can be useful is going to be a problem, because mules can't always be controlled, and all Lardo needs are a few slender openings to wreak a lot of damage.

With her agronomy degree, I also think Aldonza will turn her former home into the shining jewel of the area.

I didn't understand Humberto very well, but was there some hanky panky that occurred with the land transfer?

Thanks again, Lil.

David

Lila---If you ask me or if I have a vote, the highlight was as perfect as your recap. That highlight was/is just meant to be.

Not a lot to say, just yet anyway but a couple of thoughts come to mind. --- I didn't think that Cris' statement to Aldonza was rude. He simply didn't know the answer to her question but knew that her mother would and so he said, ask her. That doesn't sound rude to me unless it comes out different in Spanish.

It just amazes me as to how Cande wants to control any thing and every thing and that also includes everybody. Prudencia, you don't have a chance. Val is my daughter. No matter, I will handle everything. What a cold domineering bruja.

I don't know if Abelardo is a good name in Spanish or not but in English---it's perfect. With an attitude like he has, I can see
him as ending up in the dead pool.
This arrogant guy has an attitude a mile long---he could kill. You can see it in his eyes, they're filled with hate and anger. I don't know why but if he keeps up the attitude, I don't think that he will live long. I do realize however that for now, the writers have given him a purpose but how long will it last asks the gringo?

I have stated a few episodes back that I am in camp Lola. I really like her good nature and her youthful I'm in love with life, happy spirit. She's such a joy to watch when she is on the screen. Now if the bad people can just leave her alone, her bright aura of happiness will light up the room. We would save on electricity
as we wouldn't need any artificial light.

Roberta---Tragic as your life was, WE LOVED YOU!!!
the gringo

David- The land sale was legal, although Roberta was in such dire straights and in such a hurry to leave that she for sure did not get anywhere near what it was worth. But she made the choice and accepted the sale contract. What was shady was that Sever gave Humberto the money to buy the property, knowing that Roberta would have never sold it to him. Sever's intention all along was for Humberto to sign the land over to him after enough time had passed for people not to be suspicious that Roberta's accusations about him burning her crops were true.

Countx- I think you have bad info. This tn ends in Mexico in May, which would be about 150 episodes.

Fun fact: Bernardita, the young nun novice, is the real life daughter of Alexis Ayala/Sever. Her name is Stephanie Ayala.

Humberto is kind of a dog, he took Sevs money, bought the land and now he refuses to give it back,ha!

You are so welcome, David! I think you nailed Pru:

I think Pru worked as a waitress at a hash house/bar/roadside diner where humble medical student Humberto stopped by for lunch and was taken by her saucy energy. She shows herself to be unfamiliar with maneuvering in social situations (with Cande) and her gossiping and boozing are not power habits.

I'm cruising down comments so this may already be answered but Sev actually bought El Santuario as in he fronted the money but used Humberto's name. He didn't want it known that he bought the property and thus perhaps give credibility to Roberta's charges. At first Humberto wanted to buy the lands back from Sev while Sev wanted the paper work adjusted to show him, Sev as the legal owner. Now he and Sev agreed to give the lands to Cris and Vale as a wedding present but keeping it in Vale's name.

Is that what you meant?

Thanks, gringo! Gringo, one thing is clear to me and that Aldonza justifiably has an attitude. Before she even got to Santa Lucia she was saying she does not need to notify or ask permission of anyone to return to her home puebla. She copped that same attitude immediately when Cris expressed surprise at seeing her and that he never thought he'd see her again. In the Church I thought he was soft. . .well, except for grabbing her arm. That must have given her a terrible Sev flashback!

Now at the waterfall, yes, he was short, and gruff and he meant to be that way. I think he's mad at himself for being engaged to Vale and about to change one momma for another!

Vivi thanks for the info about the number of episodes ,i was really shocked when i read those junk rumours but they shall not be read anymore.
Does anyone know who plays Humbertos young secretary? She looks familiar. I almost mistook her for the actress potraying Marisol from Hasta El Fin but i guess she is potrayed by someone else.

Even if i am not commenting much on this novela i am still watching it since i began watching it from the beginning online but i stopped for a while so i am catching up again! Mexico is right now at chapter 90 but i will still read the fantastic recaps but dont expect commenting much from me

There ya go, David! Vivi has also answered your questions.

Hey guys. I think since Adelina pointedly discussed with Padre G. that what Roberta had deposited in the bank was almost gone, I think she might have gotten more for the land than anyone knew and there is money in the envelope!

I know I said it before, above, but I just LOVE this possibility. Not that that would undo the unjustice done her with the fire and all of Sev's other dastardly deeds!

Wow, that's cool: Alexis Ayala's daughter is Bernardita! I should go back and give her another look.

Hi, Eli! Yeah, he may be a dog but way back on the day Cris and Vale returned from Spain Humberto offered to pay Sev for every cent of what he paid for El Santuario.

Anybody know if Vale is refusing all of Santuario because she doesn't want to live in "the slut's house" or she wants the land but just wants the house torn down and a new one built?

Welcome, CountxAlacran and thanks for stopping by the patio!

She was excited about owning the land until Humberto mentioned living in the house, so I guess she expected it to be torn down and a mansion built instead. Talk about being short sighted!

I actually love that house, even though it's much smaller and less grand than Las Amimas's main house. It seems to fit the natural setting better and blend in. I was impressed by the way the set people made it look long abandoned.

Thanks, Vivi and Lila for clearing up my misunderstanding of the real estate transaction.

David

It IS a beautiful house! Not surprised at spoiled brat Vale's attitude! I hope, like others have said, Aldonza gets the chance to revive her old homestead!

Thanks, Vivi!

You are welcome, David!

:D

Lila, what a great, detailed recap. I missed a lot of Emmanuel and Chris' conversations, so I really needed that. Also, I completely misunderstood Dominga-I thought she told Lola to turn the other cheek so to speak. So glad I got that wrong.

Gringo, I feel your pain about Roberta. About a week into this novela, I started mentioning to my husband that I thought part of the reason I was so drawn in to the story was because Roberta reminded me so much of my sister; she shared a lot of the mannerisms, her clothing, her hair, her sadnesses, and a bit of her hysteria, and something about her face. I was weighing calling my sister's boyfriend to tell him to watch, but thought it might be too sad for him. My sister was a smoker too, and it's funny because several commenters mentioned that they didn't think Susanna Gonzalez was a realistic smoker, but my sister even held her cigs in the same way. The moment I heard Roberta cough, I knew what road we were going down and it really tweaked me because that's how my sister went (the lung cancer not the wrist slitting). Mr. LN and I were both weeping when Roberta went. Sometimes these novellas really hit home and affect us emotionally.

Thanks to all the recappers and commenters.

Lila, there aren't enough superlatives to describe your perfectly nuanced, carefully considered inspired recap. I loved every single word.

"Aldonza seems fortified with an inner resolve", "Emanuel listens earnestly as Cris’s gaze has wandered to an unseen might have been", "the raucous call of Prudencia" and "The morning is resplendent, awash in sunshine and the misty, crystalline spray of the waterfalls" were wonderful. All.

Aldonza has curled up in her human shell, hardening her exterior while her heart continues to malfunction as it has been splintered into too many sharp shards to ever be whole again.

gringo, your heartfelt feelings about Roberta/Susana was so touching it bears repeating "My heart fell all the way to the floor and stayed there all through what remained of the show". Yes. I keep expecting her to rush in a room, eyes furtively darting about in passionate frenzy! I am still trying to adjust.

daisy, I think you are right in that Cris suspects Val might not be all she appears to be. He seems to have a fiery temper and I suspect that if he was madly in love with Val, he would have been jealous and reacted much differently. He likes her but doesn't love her. He seems to be honorable and will marry her because it is the right thing.

I also love the Padre...

"In perfect rustic barmaid fashion, Pru yells for the servant to bring one". I thought Cynthia was terrific in that scene. I feel she is not being utilized enough here. I wish she had been cast as Cande who is so frigid her tight tone and facial expressions never vary.

Enjoyed everyone's comments.

Marvelous Lila. Gracias.

Diana

LN, thank you for sharing your story about your sister.

Yes, so many TN events resonate deeply and personally with many of us as Roberta/Susana did with you.

I wish you and your family peace and comfort - your love for your sister was reflected in every word you wrote. God bless.

Diana

LN--I'm so sorry to hear about your sister; that must have made it hard for you to watch. And the writers made Roberta so authentic that we have actually felt her pain. And the pain that she caused her loved ones.

J in Oregon

LN- Thank you so much for sharing the story about your sister. It's obvious how much you loved her, like how Adelina fiercely loved Roberta. It's amazing how often characters in a book, show or movie can so closely resemble people we know in real life.

LN, thank you and Bless you! So sorry for your loss. These novelas ARE powerful. Very powerful! I said it before and I meant it: I could not watch these without all of you!

Diana! Thank you! Thank you so much! I like this:

Aldonza has curled up in her human shell, hardening her exterior while her heart continues to malfunction as it has been splintered into too many sharp shards to ever be whole again.

I think even if we had not suffered through a terrible show last time, this would still be very powerful and touching for all of us. We have been used to laughing and taking easy pot shots at the last show and now this one is touching all of us in so many ways.

I can't wait for a freely given and received kiss between Cris and Aldonza. I know they have to go through this angry phase and the anger Cris will feel when he realizes what his parents have done to him and Aldonza. . .

It's going to be a long haul before that kiss. . . unless they surprise us!

Thank you so much Diana!

Thank you Lila! . I love the actors so much but i dont know,i dont find Val quite threatening yet,she is not a complete snakish villian like Bitch Maria was in Robo but i like the part that she is actually still evolving into a total ,unreformable Hoe. I dont find Lard very interesting,i dont know who potrays him but i have never seen him before but yes he seems that he will cause lots of problems in town! It seems that they appear to be common folk but as time goes we will most likely yelling them death!

Manuel seems to be so indecicive and Maria's boring and useless attempts to get him in bed makes it twice as worst. I am loving the slow tempo though, the first few episodes were very action packed and dark ( It was like some dirty thriller) but it wouldnt get far if it did not slow down a bit,you just cannot have too much action

Thank you, CountxAlacran! By the way, love your screen name!

I've talked about this with my boyfriend before- I loved my mom but she was hard to live with and I went the total other way-in that my personality is just opposite of hers, I'm more responsible and just don't mess around, my boyfriend thinks that kids will either be better than their parents or go totally off the rails, I think that's why Aldonza went to the convent, her mothers life scared her but what scared her the most was being like her mother.

LN..So sorry about your sister. Art really does reflect life sometimes. Most people can relate to losing a loved one.

Eli...Yes, sometimes people are examples of what we do not want to be. I can relate to the relationship between Adelina and Roberta because even though I am eight years younger than my sister, I have always been the more grounded, responsible one . Still, although we are very different, she is my only sibling , and I love her. No matter what happened, Adelina never abandoned her sister. It makes me think of the serenity prayer which was my mother's favorite and advises us to change what we can and than accept what we cannot change while having the wisdom to know the difference. Adelina has made a lot of sacrifices in her life for Rob and Al, so I hope that she finds some joy and love.

I cannot figure out how AL could get her land back from Hum. What would make him sell it back to her knowing that Sev would be furious.

How is Renato going to figure into this story ? If he has lots of money , he could make Hum a very generous offer that he cannot refuse. If AL somehow manages to get her land back, would she bring Joachim back to help her manage and restore it ?

The absence of Roberta/Susana is really heartbreaking for me.

Thanks for the recap, Lila! You had a full episode and covered it all beautifully and really helped me out on a couple of scenes where I zoned out.

LN: Thank you very sharing your remembrance. Moments in these shows can bring out our memories and emotions, and that's part of the wonder of this community versus other forums, that we are comfortable relating how we can identify with the characters and events. Bless you.

My theory on Val really hating the idea of living at the old place, though she says it's because it's "that slut's house" but because she has every intention of taking over the main house and pushing Cande out of the lady of the manor role.

Now we can think she doesn't know who she's messing with, but I think this chick knows a few things and she would easily resort to blackmail to have Cande step back and let her rule the roost. Cande's true love is her son. She lives through him and for him, so any threat that someone can ruin that for her is the perfect blackmail. Having the other house is a means to an end because it keeps Sev supporting the marriage as well.

Daisynjay

I hope that Sev and Val do not team up to control both Cris and Candy. They both hate AL , and they both are unscrupulous in their desire for power and position.

Does the town know about Roberta's death yet?

Steve- No. No one knows yet.

Thanks, Sara!

I think you theory is sound, Daisynjay. We haven't seen Val in full blown bitch mode. I could see her teaming with Sev. Would Sev and Val use Abelardo to do some dirty work?

or

Will Sev's plan work, Cris stay and Abelardo is fired and left to make mischief outside Las Animas?

Would Sev use Abelardo to do eevil against Aldonza or does he prefer to do that in person?

I know one thing. I realize Cris is angry now but the way he's treating Aldonza and knowing what Sev did to her, I'm still wanting them to show me how Aldonza can possibly love Cris!

Great recap, Lila, Cris is going have to work hard to get back with Aldonza especially with what his father did to her. Praying she can survive a confrontation with Cande, Pru and especially the devilish Sev and hold up well.

Stellar Lila!

I don't get why Aldonza got so butthurt towards Cris at the church, yes he was guarded and surprised but not condescending. Yes, at the falls he was. Aldonza left without giving a reason, cut contact, comes back to town knowing she might bump into the guy, yet he's totally in the dark and there she is. However, I see no reason for the two of them to be together now. Come on, I need some butter for my biscuit.

Kinda feel bad for Cris at this point, so few people honest with him. Aldonza included.

Aldonza - I'm loaded for bear

Abelardo - everybody owes me something

Cris - am I being pushed or pulled?

Emmanuel - term of endearment, bro

Renato - hot mail

PG - Body & Soul Bed & Breakfast

Val - preemptively pissy

Cande - that corncob gotta hurt

Tofie..ha..great list.I agree with you about Al's attitude toward Cris in the church. He has no idea what his dad did to her or that her mother just died. I suppose that AL is just mad at the universe for all the sad/bad things that have happened to her in her life and some of her angst just splashed over onto him. Perhaps Cris will intervene between Al and smarmy Lardo again. We know that little weasel is going to accost AL the first time their paths cross. And when will Cris find out what Daddy Dearest did ?

Tofie..my favs were the ones for Renato, PG, and Lardo. You are a funny, clever girl. Thanks for my morning giggles.

I'VE GOT IT BAD! Can't get La Sombra off my mind.

Eli 3-14 5:07PM---I totally agree with you as to why Aldonza went to the convent. She didn't want to end up like her mother.

You guys are right in that Val isn't in full bitch mode yet. You can see it in her character and when she gets up to 100% I don't think Cris will be able to handle her. Cris is too nice of a guy, he doesn't have that mean dark streak in him.

Lila 3-14 8:55PM "and knowing what Sev did to her" I don't think that Cris does know what his dad did. Actually, What I would like to see during an uncomfortable confrontation when there are several people around is for Aldonza say in a loud voice to Sever---and if I don't leave, what are you going to do?
Rape me again?

Abelardo---I can see this guy at some point ending up in the dead pool count. He's really got an attitude.

Did anybody see what Sever was holding when he came into Aldonza's room at the end of the show Friday night? Was it a knife? Aldonza had better find something, very fast, to fight with. That guy is pure evil. Scream your head off Aldonza. HELP! HELP! AYUDAME!!!
the gringo

Thank you tofie! Yaaay! Girl, LOVE the list. Can't pick one, they all capture this episode. I agree with you and Susanlynn and this is the same sentiment I expressed earlier in comments. Aldonza IS loaded for bear but she did project her attitude onto Cris in the church encounter.

I agree, tofie, I need some butter AND jelly on my biscuit and we know the jelly is coming much, much, later. (Y'all know what jelly is, don't ya?)

From the last stanza of an an oooold blues song:

Jelly, jelly, jelly
Jelly stays on my mind
Jelly, jelly, jelly
Jelly stays on my mind
Jelly roll killed my pappy
And drove my mama stone blind

Jelly (sex, lust) DID kill Aldonza's pappy and it drove Roberta stone blind to reason or restraint and self esteem and finally to expediting her own slow motion suicide.

See y'all later! :D

I think Aldonza is convinced that there is no possible future for her and Chris (due to Sev's unspeakable action), and she's determined to keep Chris at arm's length so her feelings for him don't resurface. No way could they get back together without her telling Chris what happened...and she knows she could never tell him.
So, clearly, Chris will have to find out some other way, and then he will understand her actions.

I'm not saying it makes sense, just that this is what it feels like the writers have laid out.

J in Oregon

I think you captured how Aldonza is feeling perfectly J in Oregon.

Very well said.

The truth is still too raw to be revealed. I still don't know how Cris and Aldonza could ever be together unless and until Sev dies.

Diana

Morning, Gringo, er afternoon!

Gringo, when I said this, I realize Cris is angry now but the way he's treating Aldonza and knowing what Sev did to her, I'm still wanting them to show me how Aldonza can possibly love Cris!

What I meant is between how Cris treated Aldonza at the waterfall and Aldonza knowing what Cris's father did to her, I don't see how SHE can come to love Cris.

Absolutely, we all know that Cris DOES NOT know what his father did. Roberta and Adelina are the only ones other than Aldonza, and of course, Sev, who knows what he did. I'm saying I don't know how the writers are going to show us this strong, undying love in the light of what has happened.

:)

*Correction, Roberta knew what Sev did. She still knows but is in the great beyond.

I still don't know how Cris and Aldonza could ever be together unless and until Sev dies. Diana, I agree with you completely and the way that, according to Lola, Cande turns into a gremlin whenever Aldonza is mentioned, it seems like SHE would have to be dead, too!

Lila - Thank you for the recap! I am carving out time today, to watch this episode. BTW, the highlighting was a nice effect. Might be fun to have more of it in our recaps, during those highlight-able moments. :-)

tofie - great list!

"Kinda feel bad for Cris at this point, so few people honest with him. Aldonza included."
Yes, but I'd have a hard time telling some guy I loved/liked that I left town because HIS FATHER violently raped me. In real life, I think most young women would.

J in Oregon - Well put re: Chris/Aldonza's relationship. It is the major stumbling block to this couple and only one of them knows what happened.

Most women who have been abused physically or emotionally by a man will tend to keep them at arm's length as a natural defense mechanism. We've seen it in her relationship with Renato. Her behavior seems quite normal, to me.

Without some good professional counseling for Aldonza, I will have a hard time believing the telenovelaland-inevitable-goal of this couple getting back together and living happily ever after. (that's what our telenovela beanie hats are for) Just sayin'.

Hey, Doris! Thank you so much! I think we're all from Missouri on this one! I want to see what reaction there might be from Cris when he finds out Aldonza that Roberta's death is what brought her back to Santa Lucia. He may well quietly but steadily feel his love for her awaken while she fights for her life. He may actually save her from a real attempt on her life by Sev but I wouldn't want Cris to have to kill Sev or Cris's sake, of course.

Okay. Getting way ahead of the story. There's enough stuff going on now!

*for Cris's sake

Really, just throwing Cris a little love while liking his brother better. Even Emanuel not telling him the whole truth, though pointing him in the right direction. Lola speaks the unabashed truth to him, and Dominga, but through a strainer. Otherwise, no one respects the guy enough to live his own life or make his own choices, instead his reality is being bent, well, really, he's gettin a good ole mindfucking.

Well said, Tofie and a good detailing of who, right now, is openly on Cris's side: Lola, Emanuel, Dominga. Meanwhile his own mother and father and of course, "No Vale Nada" are breaking one off in him BIG TIME.

It will be interesting to see how the writers manage to get the two leads back together because the scenes of them in the opening sequence indicate that they are destined to be together. Would it make a difference if Sev turned out not to be Cris's father ?

I wish AL would tell Tio that Sev raped her. The good padre needs to know this to protect her from that devil.

Susanlynn - I would love it, if it turns out Sev is not Cris' bio-dad. The Patio gang can hope and keep our fingers crossed on this.

Somehow Cris needs to be the instrument of justice. I don't mean killing Sev or anything.

And Aldonza would have to get therapy and Cris would need to be part of that. Not that the writers will take that path...

Doris..I wanted to let you knew that Coddle is a delicious stew with potatoes, onions, sausage, bacon , and beer, and Bubble and Squeak is a potato pancake.

And I bet there will be some kind of dilemma in Padre J's future, when he has learned the truth about Sev but can't reveal it because...well, you know.

J in Oregon

Susanlynn - I never would have guessed what those dishes are! They sound good, though. I giggled all over Scotland every time Spotted Dick was on the menu.
;-)

Sara -it would go against telenovela rules for Cris to kill anyone, but maybe he could get Sev sent to jail.

Maybe Lardo will eventually turn around and bite the hand that is currently feeding him. I am looking forward to seeing him shoveling out those horse stalls. Heh

Y'all know what? If there is a telenovela rule against the leading man killing someone, there should be one against the leading lady being raped!

Hey! Just a minute! Doris did you watch Cuando Me Enamoro? Seems like the leading man (can't remember the character's name) killed the baddie by running him through with a sword or something?

If I am wrong about this I will quietly find a methodology to boost/improve my memory!

;p Lila

I haven't been able to comment much this weekend, but I've been enjoying reading everyone's comments!

I hope Aldonza, Adelina and Padre G have a nice, quiet, PRIVATE service for Roberta. I just don't think I could take all the town biddies either showing up to gloat or pretending to be nice. Of course they're all bound to find out one way or another, but hopefully not until after she's been quietly laid to rest.

I'm still also holding out hope for some ghostly re-appearances. Whether they're real or just a figment of Sev's guilty imagination.

I can't think of a specific instance, but anyone is allowed to kill in self-defense...I think. Though, I'm having this vague recollection that it usually ends up being a little more of an accident when it's one of the "good guys". Sorry, brain fried this morning.

Hey, if they're going to have leading men engage in ALL sorts of ungentlemanly behavior, then the TN Gods should cut Cris some slack if he ever dispatches Sev.

Wouldn't it be lovely if *Roberta* could drive Sev to suicide?

You mean, like he's riding down that tree-lined lane, alone, and a sudden storm comes up and suddenly, between flashes of lightning, there she is, standing in the middle of the path and before he can make any sense of what's happening, the horse spooks and he hits his head on a conveniently-placed rock?

Oh, I guess that would be more like her killing him, huh? Oops, my bad.

Totally agree about the quiet, dignified service.

Yah, I could probably come up with a more graphically horrendous death after I see whatever the hell it is he's going to do today, but yah, that'll do!

Lila- Yes. Jeronimo, the galan, kills the villain (played by Lisardo) by running him through with a sword in the midst of a heated sword fight between the two to rescue the heroine from the villain's large freighter ship on the high seas. It was like an episode of Highlander! But that's the only time I've seen the hero kill the villain. Skimming the recap of Mi Corazon es Tuyo, it seems that the hero might have accidentally killed the villain (also played by Lisardo) as fought to rescue the heroine. But nothing as proactive as running a sword through his body.

They are still filming the final chapters. I hope the writers see your idea, 5ft!

The previous comment was about Cuando Me Enamoro.

Thanks, Vivi! So, there you go, the galan CAN kill the baddie. Maybe they'll make it such that Sev is NOT Cris's bio daddy so that will be less of a moral downer for Cris and this will be after he has learned Sev raped his beloved Aldonza and did all sorts of other low-downed dastardly deeds!

Lol, well, if anyone involved in the production of Sombra is reading this, I'm happy to share ideas. Like Roberta hanging out in Sev's room whispering "asesino" and "violador" in his ear until he starts talking nonsense around people and calling out "Roberta!" at inopportune moments, but offs himself before they can send him to a manicomio. I think that could be...entertaining.

I just read that the writers of Sombra are going to change things up in this ending from what happened in El Manantial, so let's keep putting our ideas out there for them. Maybe someone is listening/reading...

As much as I would love for Aldonza to tell Cris now what his dad did to her, that rape is such a MAJOR evil deed, that I think that information won't be revealed to Cris until near the end. I see that as being the straw that breaks the camel's back between Cris and his parents. And if the writers want to take our advice, perfect grounds for Cris to attempt to kill Sever.

I just read that the writers of Sombra are going to change things up in this ending from what happened in El Manantial
--Vivi

WOW! That's like, totally MAJOR! Yeah, keep the ideas coming!

*Roberta* drives Sev crazy and he totally destroys his own reputation in Santa Lucia

. . .he confesses to the affair with her; his desire to kill her during the fateful night when he had his arm hacked off

. . .he confesses to stealing he and Roberta's baby at birth and instructing the "Dr." to leave her for dead; the disappearing of the baby (Emanuel) and subsequent denial of him as his son

. . .he confesses to burning her huerto to drive Roberta off El Santuario

. . .HE CONFESSES TO THE RAPE OF ALDONZA

And these can be strung along so that his reputation is eaten away little by little.

He makes the last confession during a thunderstorm and then add in Diva's part about seeing her on the road but instead of falling on a conveniently placed rock, let him be riding in El Santuario and Roberta appears at the mouth of the largest waterfall and he charges at her and over the falls he goes.

Wait. The poor horsey would be hurt.

Okay, he gets off the horse and runs after the ghost of Roberta and off he goes over the highest waterfall and his head splits like a melon on the jagged rockes below!

Yes!

We could throw in the appearances of Padre Sixto and Raymundo while we're at it, because, hey, why not? Might as well go for it!

I wouldnt think Sev would hold Roberta in such regard that he would obsessivly mourn after her,he cares more about reputation. He might get a sting from his conciounce but dont expect it to last long. At worst Rob was a loose end for Sev. But it wuld be quite an epic ending if Cris finds out about the rape, his marriage goes to Hell and he becomes a fugitive and later gets visits from Ghost Roberta who "seduces" his mind to fullfill revenge to keep their "relationship" . He could later kidnapp Ald on a ship but there is a thunderstorm and the ship flips, literraly damaging Sev's face and Al swims out but Sev swims out as well . Al tries to escape back to her old house and Sev chases after her ,getting her to the hills of Sant Juario and is about to beat her to death but he doesnt know that Candela is also around ,armed with a handgun and shoots him in the back. He lives but he gets taken away to the manicomio forced to look Rob laughing at him every single day.

would be quite epic*

I like your ideas, Count, but it's not mourning that would drive him crazy, just the sheer intensity of having her remind him day after day, night after night of the eeevil he has committed.

Yah, Diva, let's throw in Padre Sixto, for sure! I mean, he killed the Priest IN THE CHURCH! And for sure bring in Raimundo and have Sev relive, night after night the sickening slice and crunch of that old, rusty machete nearly hacking his arm off!

Yes! Yes! Maybe they'll take some of our ideas!

I don't care if Cris kills Sever or Roberta's ghost drives him crazy, I just want that bastard to go down.

Oh, I don't think he'd mourn for her. Dude doesn't care about anybody but himself. But at least for now, nobody knows she's dead, so if she starts making "appearances" he'll just think she came back to town...then when he finds out she's dead and when she died, everyone can worry about his sanity.

Word, gringo!

The beauty of a haunting is there's really nothing to be done about it. They're not like live people who can be threatened. Sev can't hurt somebody he's already killed.

Great point Diva, I didn't think of that.

I'm wondering if we're in for more bad stuff happening or if there's really enough to be getting on with just dealing with/resolving everything that's already out there. I'm trying to think if they've done that before, where instead of the bad guys getting away with crap all the way up to the last week, they actually have a slow, prolonged downfall.

I think Sever and Cande are only getting started with their evil. Aldonza and Cris had barely started speaking to each other when they attacked with an onslaught of evil. Just think what they would do if/when Cris and Adolza actually try to have a public relationship. Cande might even get her hands dirty then!

And don't foget Val, she'd join in with her own evil and gladly take on some assignments from Cande. I think Val would probably come up with meaner stuff on her own with Cande!

*without Cande!

Countx- I still think we should avoid looking at vids of the finale of El Manantial, despite what the current writers "say" they'll do.

As the rumor mill is unreliable, could we not discuss things that happened in the future on the show this is a remake of, please. The info is all out there if anyone wants to go looking for it, but for those of us who don't want to know, please don't bring it here.

As far as I'm concerned, the link itself is fine, as you're not telling us what happened and the video isn't going to play on its own, and as you said--click at your own risk! But I would prefer if anyone who does watch it not say anything about what happens.

Lol, Vivi, our comments crossed :D I'm not watching, for sure. If it's accurate, I'm spoiled. If it's not accurate, then I'll be comparing the two. Either way, I lose.

Let me amend my request--in Blogger comments, a link to YouTube is fine and doesn't show anything, but when the email notification comes in, there's a thumbnail of the video and just hovering over it shows a brief description of the video. It's too late for this one, but please don't post anything like that in future.

Diva:
"I'm still also holding out hope for some ghostly re-appearances. Whether they're real or just a figment of Sev's guilty imagination..."

Diva I love your finely defined nuance between a "real" ghost and one that's just imaginary.... Bwahahahaha!!!!

And just to confuse the issue...just because someone sees a ghost once doesn't mean they're not hallucinating every other time :D

Diva---You said that you're wondering if more bad stuff is going to happen or if they are going to sort out what has already happened? In Fridays advances when Aldonza opened the door, Sev pushed his way in. There was no way for Aldonza to stop him. He looked menacing and was hiding something in his hand.
It looked as though he was either out to hurt her or possibly kill her. I hope that Adelina is there to help her or that she may be able to grab a vase to smash him in the head with. He isn't there to eat cake and ice cream.
must see tv tonight.

I would like the "Ghost Everyone" screwing everything up but it would be quite predictable for me. For Sev's end i would love him to get wounded somehow( Maybe from a beating or shooting) and his last stopping point before going to hell would be the Church.Candela would also be there ,paying respects for the sins but suddenly she sees Sev and they would talk about their past and how their secrets/sins have affected their marriage and their relationship with the close ones. Sev gets emotional and is about to bleed out of his wounds and Candela asks him :" Do you want to spend the rest of your days trapped in the prison or me to strangle you alive with the rope i am holding in my hand?"
Sev chooses the latter and Candela begins to strangle him as Sev receives annoying flashbacks in his head which drive him insane and before he gets strangled he suddenly punches Candela in his last breath and he begins taunting her with the " I got you so bad Lil Hoe!" ( He is still bleeding but he wanted to take his trophy wife with him) but later Cris comes in with a gun and shoots him once in the heart ,ridding Sev of this world once and for all !

Or for me to strangle you with the rooe i am holding in my hand*

Also Sev could pretend to drop dead but when Candela was supposed to check the life signs ,he grabs her . He IS bleeding but he just thought he wants to do a harakiri with his spouse only for Cris to eventually stop him. While Sev and Candy were doing their talk Cris has been looking all over Sev but could not find him anywhere but eventually begins racing to the Church only to find Sev attempting to strangle Candy, diabolically muttering " We are getting married again precious and ya know there is no divorce avalible in Hell" but then you know what happens later BANG BANG and Seviroth is no more and Candy is safe and sound although bloddied a bit.
