La Sombra del Pasado #18 3/12/15 Adiós, Mamá.

It is truly a sad evening out on the patio as we say goodbye to Roberta. Ironically this is episode 18 and Judaism often associates the the number 18 with life ("chai".)

You will be missed, Roberta.

Aldonza has discovered her mother bleeding in the tub. She calls for her tío and he comes in and asks Roberta not to go. Roberta tells him God is punishing her. He's calling her. Padre Jeronimo (Padre J) begs Roberta to hold on. Her daughter needs her.

Cristobal (Cris) sees Lola walking along the streets of Santa Lucia and calls to her. He offers a ride and she refuses. Cris wonders what's wrong and Lola explains to him that his mother got really mad about them talking in the kitchen. He doesn't see the problem, but Lola explains that it matters to her. Candela (Cande) even went and talked to her grandmother! Cande told Dominga she didn't like Cris and Lola's friendship and who knows what other stupid things (mensadas.) Lola thinks they should just leave it be. Cris hops out of the car.

At Las Ánimas, Emmanuel is walking the grounds when Cande stops him. She wants to know why he is turning Cristobal against Valeria (Val.) If he keeps up the intrigues, he could end up with a lot of troubles-losing his job for example. God love Emmanuel, he gently tells her that it was Don Severiano (Sev) that hired him, and Don Severiano is the only one that can fire him. Cande disagrees. She is the owner of Las Ánimas and she has the last word. She turns to leave and Emmanuel bluntly asks why she can't stand him. He can understand Prudencia and Valeria's hate, but he doesn't understand Cande's disdain. They have nothing to do with each other, yet she's always been rude. Cande explains she doesn't like opportunists. Emmanuel asks for an explaination. She thinks he used his friendship with Cris to get his current job. She tells him that no matter what kind of gossip he comes up with, neither he nor anyone will stop Val and Cris from getting married.

Cris tells Lola his mother doesn't decide who he can and can't talk to. She tries to leave and he playfully lifts her up and she tells him to put her down. He says she's just as wild and rebellious rejega) as Aldonza was. That's like a bucket of cold water. Lola asks if it still hurts him to think of her. It does. Lola was upset by Aldonza's sudden departure as well, especially since they were such good friends. She never got a call or a "mail" or anything. Lola says that her grandmother says it's as if Aldonza doesn't even remember them. Lola finally accepts Cris's offer of a ride. Abelardo is nearby and sees it all and since he didn't hear anything, I'm sure it looked mighty flirty to him!

The paramedics have Roberta ready for transport to the hospital. Adelina arrives and Padre J tells her Roberta has slashed her wrists. Aldonza will ride with her mother in the ambulance. Roberta shivers and Aldonza begs her mother to be calm. Roberta asks her daughter to forgive her, but Aldonza tells her everything will be fine. Roberta tell her she wants to die in peace and she needs to know her daughter forgives her. Aldonza assures her there is nothing to forgive. Roberta knows she's been the worst mother and continues to beg for forgiveness. She knows it was all her fault. She tells Aldonza she was also a victim of "that man. That bastard." Roberta begins to cough and Aldonza gets very upset and asks the paramedics to help her mother. Roberta reaches up to stroke her daughter's hair.

Cris goes to Sev's study to ask about the business trip. Sev tells him things went fine and he bought a couple of horses. Cris asks to see the contract and Sev scoffs. Nothing gets signed until horses are delivered. Why is Cris asking all these questions anyway? Cris reminds him that he was the one that wanted him to get involved with the business and that's what he's doing. Sev thinks there is an ulterior motive. Cris is just curious about the frequent trips to San Miguel. Sev asks Cris to clarify--exactly what is he imagining? Cris says he's not imagining anything. Sev offers to take Cris with him on the next trip. Cris accepts, but hopes it's soon since he's leaving in two months.

Adelina and Padre J get caught in traffic as they follow the ambulance. Poor Adelna. I don't think she can take it. Padre J tells her to calm down. In the ambulance, Aldonza comforts Roberta and asks her not to fall asleep. They are almost at the hospital. Roberta asks her to swear that she will never let a man trample her (....que ningún hombre te pisotee.) Roberta asks her to swear that Aldonza won't let Severiano destroy her life the way he destroyed Roberta's. Aldonza asks what Sev did to her, but Roberta doesn't answer. She just says he's to blame for everything. Aldonza makes the vow to her mother and Roberta slips away. Paramedics are unable to revive her. Aldonza is beside herself with grief and tells her mother she needs her and begs her not to leave her.

Val wants to talk to Humberto. She doesn't think her mother would understand, so she's come to him. Val is not looking forward to living with Cande. Humberto asks about their plan to move to the DF. Val says that yes, that's the plan. But just in case Cris decides to stay...will Humberto please help them buy a house? Humberto tells her that he had a surprise for her and he was going to wait until the wedding, but he'll go ahead and tell her now: He bought el Santuario for her and Cris!!! Val is thrilled until Humberto mentions that they can remodel and live in the old Alcoer place. Val flips out. Live in that sluts house?? No way! She'd rather live with Cande! If that's his idea of helping, she'd rather not have anything! She flounces out, nearly knocking over Pru.

The ambulance arrives at the hospital. Doctor Gustavo is there waiting. Aldonza attacks him, but he tells her he's Roberta's doctor. Padre J and Adelina learn that Roberta has passed away. Adelina cries at her sisters side. Padre J stops the paramedics. He blesses Roberta. He asks God to bless her and hopes that finally she will rest in peace.

Oh Prudencia (Pru) is not happy. She can't believe Humberto would offer that house to Val. Because of "that woman" Val was *thisclose* to not marrying Cris. Humberto doesn't see the problem. The girl doesn't live there anymore and it's THEIR property. To live next to El Santuario is a privilege! This sets Pru to wondering...how did Humberto afford the property anyway? He says Roberta was in financial straights and needed to sell quick. She took what he offered. Pru finds it odd that Sev didn't try to buy it first and that he didn't even complain about Humberto buying it. Humberto says that he and Sev have done each other favors when they needed it. Pru is still not buying it and she's going to find out more and woe is Humberto if she finds out he's lying.

Cande asks Cris if he's given any thought to the honeymoon. He hasn't and she suggests the Middle East (WTF?) or Paris or Venice. He asks about the honeymoon she and Sev took. She says they went to Madrid and Lisbon...and they saw 2 horse exhibitions. Cris asked what happened to them and asks when the love died. Cande says with the years their love changed, but there is still affection. Cris asks who they are trying to fool. He's known for a while that they aren't happy, but Cande insists that she's been happy especially when he came along. Cris says the love of a child is different. He would have liked to have had his parents happy together...or separated...or whatever...but happy. Cande tells him to stop. The only thing that should matter to him is that they were good parents. Their marriage is their business. Cris is worried about his marriage to Val. He doesn't want it to end up like his parents. He doesn't want to be with someone just for appearances. Cande assures him that won't happen if he doesn't make the same mistakes as ...Cris asks what she means...but Cande won't elaborate.

At the hospital, Aldonza begins to blame herself for leaving and for saying horrible things. Adelina tells Aldonza that Roberta had cancer. She tried to tell her when she called from the convent, but Aldonza didn't give her the chance. Adelina tells her to stop blaming herself. Padre J has made arrangements with the funeral home. The three will go home and rest and then go to the funeral home. Aldonza hugs her uncle and cries.

Doctor Gonzalo calls his son Renato to tell him Aldonza's mother has passed away. He reminds his son that he shouldn't say anything to his mother about his father's indiscretion.

Aldonza, Adelina and Padre J arrive home. Aldonza takes the graduation gift and goes to her room. Adelina begins to cry again. There were so many things she needed to do and there was so little time.

In her bedroom, Aldonza opens her gift. It is a beautiful locket with a picture of her mother and father inside. The card reads:

I love you so much, hija. You are the only good thing in my life. And I want you to know I am very proud of you.

Adelina says her sister had her faults and made her mistakes, but she still loved her with all her sould. Padre J tells her to be strong for Aldonza. She will need her. Adelina asks Padre J to allow her to let it all out for a little bit (ugh. Sounds so much better in Spanish since it only takes one word: desahogar) Padre J hugs her and encourages her to cry.

Pru is dressed and ready to go to the church to discuss flowers, but Val is still in pajamas and playing on her tablet. Val tells her mother that Cande has taken care of all that and Pru is a little annoyed. Val reminds Pru what a control freak Cande is and that she better get used to it. Pru doesn't care. She's going to pick out flowers and Cande can go to hell. Pru's rant is interrupted by the phone ringing. It's Abelardo. He's called to tell Val that he saw Cris getting flirty with Lola. Val wants to know what he's insinuating. Abelardo just thinks she should know what her sainted Cris is up to. Val hangs up and makes up a lame excuse to her mother. Pru is still suspicious.

Renato arrives to comfort Aldonza. He's introduced to Padre J. Padre J is glad Renato is there for Aldonza. Renato has been worried about Aldonza ever since her aunt called him looking for her. Aldonza wants to talk about that later. Renato offers his support. The funeral home rep comes to tell them they are ready to take Roberta's body. Aldonza goes to the coffin and tells her mother she will see her again...with her father and her sister too. She swears she will fulfill the vow she made to her mother. She will not fail her mother. Padre J and Adelina overhear this.

Emmanuel explains some hacienda biz to Cris. They both see Abelardo arrive. They wonder why he's there and both agree he's bad news. (There were more lines, but my dear little Pablo can be a little mushy in the mouth.) Cris will go investigate.

Abelardo (Lardo) introduces himself to Sev as the bankers's son. Sev knows exaclty who he is. What does Lardo want? Lardo tries to butter up Sev by commenting on his generosity. I honestly feel like Sev is not impressed, but then Cris comes in and Lardo sucks up to him, too. Lardo comments to Cris that he came looking for work. This surprised Cris because he didn't think Lardo knew anything about horses. Lardo admits he doesn't, but that he's always wanted to be like them. It's not a crime to want to work in such a noble profession, is it? Suddenly Sev is warming up to Lardo and saying he likes his attitude. He tells Lardo to come back tomorrow morning. Lardo leaves and Cris asks Severiano what that was all about. Sev insists he's just helping the son of a friend. Cris tells his dad that he has a bad feeling about Lardo. Sev is cara de plotting as we go to commercial.

Val goes to see Lola in the shop. She wants to know what Lola is doing with Cristobal and tells her she can get her tossed out of Las Animas in two bitchy snaps. Lola tells her she and Cris have been friends for years and he wouldn't allow it. Val tells Lola that she can see why she and Aldonza were such good friends: they were both hos. Lola doe not take the bait, she just throws it back at Val and reminds her that Cris was madly in love with Aldonza. Val tells her to shut up. Lola just keeps going. If Aldonza ever comes back, Val is going to be left vestida y alboratada...which I'm not sure how to translate since Val interrupts her with a mighty THWACK. I am really disappointed that Lola doesn't hit her back, but she does at least grab her by the hair and start fighting. Irma arrives and stops them. Val makes a comment about Irma's savage employees.

The funeral employee brings Roberta's ashes. Aldonza informs her aunt and uncle they will take the ashes to Santa Lucia to be placed next to her father and her sister.

Irma tells Lola she can't treat customers that way. Lola tells her Val didn't come to buy anything. Lola knows Val is friends with her daughter Mary, but Val is bad news. Lola asks if Irma is going to fire her. Irma softens. No. She's not going to fire her.

Adelina tries to talk Aldonza out of taking Roberta's ashes to Santa Lucia. Aldonza's mind is made up and Padre Jeronimo supports her. Laying Roberta to rest next to her husband is the right thing to to do. Aldonza leaves. Padre J asks Adelina why she doesn't want Aldozna to take Roberta back there. Adelina asks him not to mind her. He then asks if Adelina knew what Aldonza meant about keeping the promise to her mother. Adelina doesn't know and Padre J thinks maybe it had to do with where Roberta wanted to be buried. Adelina doubts it, but maybe that was it.

Irma wants Lola to try to control herself. Lola thanks Irma for the advice. Lola tells her that aside from her grandparents, Irma is the person she most respects and she would have liked to have a mother like Irma. Irma wishes her children would say the same. Maybe Mari is not so unhappy with the mother she got, but Abelardo.... Lola starts to interrupt with a tirade against Lardo, but remembers Irma's advice and stops herself. Lola nicely asks Irma to pass her the boxes.

Abelardo and his PMN original T-shirt brags about the job he landed at the Mendoza haceinda. Uriel hopes Lardo makes the most of the opportunity. Lardo asks for money. He'll pay his dad back out of his first paycheck.

Adelina doesn't understand why Aldonza wants to go back to Santa Lucia. Aldonza says she wants to bury her mother next to her father and sister. Adelina asks what she promised her mother. Aldonza says she doesn't know what she's talking about. Adelina tells her what she and Padre J overheard. Aldonza explains she swore never to let Severiano Mendoza ruin her life like he did her mother's. Adelina is worried. Doesn't Aldonza realize the risk she's taking? Seve could harm her again. Aldonza is determined. What could he do that he hasn't already done? Sev has to pay for what he did to her and for her mother's misery!

And I don't mean to make light of anything, but I think Pablo Martinez Negrete designed Abelardo's t-shirt. I was having psychedelic mural flash-backs.

Looking forward to the recap, Sara.

RIP, Roberta! I think Aldonza should hire some bodyguards before she goes back.

Oh nooooo! I haven't watched the episode yet and I'm already really, really sad...

J in Oregon

Sara..Can't wait for your recap. This was such a sad episode. I guess that Roberta lived a life on the edge for so long..too hot not to cool down. Our impetuous, angry, rebellious Roberta wanted to leave this life on her own terms.

On a brighter note,I am starting to adore that little weasely weasel Lardo because he is going to be bratty Val's worst nightmare. Hahaha and Yay..go Lardo.

Heard Rodner Figueroa got the boot from Univision for making controversial comments about FLOTUS!

Steve,
Please stick to comments about the show.

Recap is done. The snark wasn't in me for this sad episode. And it's a little too "(Name) says blah blah blah. (Another Name) says blah blah blah."

Sara - it's late and I've only watched up to where Roberta flatlined si I will read the recap tomorrow.

What a sad, sad scene in the ambulance. That tore my heart apart. Pobre de Aldonza! I need to go read something cheery before I go to bed. Oy vey...

It was a very sad episode, doris. Not just Roberta's death, but we won't see Susana Gonzalez any more.

And Aldonza broke my heart.

Honestly, doris I am looking at your little puppy. She is cheering me up right now.

I get the East Coast feed as well as Seattle. Had to watch at 4:00 today. I was heartbroken for Roberta, (yes I really liked her) and her sister and daughter. What a truly sad turn of events. I do hope the show will continue to captivate without Susan G.

Great actress

Thank you Sara for the respectful way you handled this sad episode.

Sara--
Waaaa! Thanks so much for the recap. I just wanted to cry through the whole episode. Then the recap made me cry all over again. So sad. Thank you for summarizing and detailing all the heartache with such sensitivity. It truly was so well acted and very hard to watch.

I was glad at least they gave Aldonza and Roberta a few moments in the ambulance to say goodbye, so poor Ald had that comfort: to tell her mom how much she loved her. That was a gift.

(And, speaking of gift, instead of watching MCET afterwards, I spent the next hour on Ebay looking for an antique red photo locket...)

J in Oregon

Gracias, Sara! Excellent coverage of another sad episode.

Nooooooooooo! Not Roberta!

and on a purely selfish note...Nooooooooo! Not Susana! How am I supposed to be inspired without seeing my acting idol on a daily basis?!

Agreed, Vivi...lots and lots of bodyguards!

Susanlynn, yes, watching Abelardo bring down Val is going to be satisfying. I hope he's at least competent at that, if nothing else.

doris, I know! How am I supposed to sleep now?!

J, did you find any good ones? I'm just asking...for a friend....

Back for more in the morning, but for now, just know that I'm mourning the loss of both Roberta and Susana along with everyone else. *sob*

PMN! Ha! Okay, that took way too long for me to get that... clearly I need some sleep. Hopefully I will not dream of psychedelic psycho kitties.

Vivi, Susanlynn and J- thanks for stopping by so early. It truly was a sad episode.

Susanlynn -it will be fun to watch Lardo take down Val.

J- wasn't that locket gorgeous? Like 5ft, I've got this friend who would like one so keep me abreast of your eBay funds as well ;)

Counting down to tonight's episode!

Thanks so much, Sara. You did a fantastic job retelling this very sad episode.

I sure hope Lardo makes lots of trouble for Val by being at Las Animas. As long as he stays away from Lola. And next time Lola throws down with Val, there better be a slap delivered to Val. I'm glad Irma didn't fire her, but Irma seems to be naive/ignorant of the true nature of her son and her daughter's BFF.

I'm so glad Padre was there for Adelina and Aldonza. They both needed him badly. And Renato earns major points for being by Aldonza's side. His father gets points for calling him and encouraging him to go see Aldonza, but kind of messed it up by immediately trying to convince Renato to keep his mouth shut about his hanky panky to his mom.

Yes, Padre J was a huge comfort last night.

I'm wondering about Renato. He seems to figure prominently in the credits, but right now he's in the DF. Will he end up in Santa Lucía?

Thank you Sara, I also love it when you teach me a little something.

Telling you, there's some big shoes to fill with Roberta DOA.

So far Lola my favorite character

Thelma Madrigal is doing a great job

Ditto everything, tofie! I don't know what I'm going to do without Roberta/Susana.

Lola is the bomb, but I liked how Emmanuel also refused to be cowed by Cande. He's not as fiery as Lola, but he holds his own.

I'm liking Thelma Madrigal so much more in this. I don't mind mean girls I love to hate, but I can't stand characters like Aranza.

Wonderful recap Sara. You did such justice to this very sad episode.

Not that we didn't suspect it would happen, but darn it happened so quickly and I still feel like I'm going through a withdrawal now that Roberta is gone. What a hole to fill, which hopefully is not filled with even more Val or that spoiled brat Lardo. Farewell Susanna. you deserve every award they have for that performance.

I was stunned at first by the locket, but I think in that gift we got to see the woman under the drinks and alcohol. Such possibilities and a very poignant moment. Ok, I'm tearing again.

Loved the street scene with Cris and Lola. I feel rather sorry for this poor girl, she seems to be turning into every's fav person to ridicule and threaten. But I love her spunk and refusal to feel belittled, just cautious. Thankfully she has a supporter in Irma.

And then there's Emmanuel. Again, a strong character who isn't intimated. That confrontation with Cande was well done. I've noticed the way Alex plays the character with strength but a wonderful touch of constant sadness. All these actors seem on top of their game.

So the brats end game is to ingratiate himself to Sev? How did that evil spawn come from Irma and Humberto? I vote a dual dart board right next to Val's. We miss one, we hit the other. Perfect.

Love Renato and I see him coming to town for whatever reason. Make friends with Emmanuel and then we can have some major eye candy shots.

Daisynjay

They killed off Roberta ? Noooooo!

Now poor Aldonza is alone without her parents & sister. Sad :(

daisynjay- I first saw Alex Sirvent in PVAA as Alcides and he was great. I wasn't to keen on him in QA and the little bit I saw in Robo wasn't to my liking either. I'm glad to be seeing him in another role where he is really bringing it.

Steve-Aldonza still has Adelina and Padre J. :-)

Well, Sara, you just shined in your description of the events in this episode. Roberta will be missed.

I wonder if Lardo will show up for work on time at his new job, or if he will need to be woken up at 9:45 by his mommy.

Usually females fight over love interests. I like how Lola is fighting Vale just because Vale is a bitch, and not worthy of respect.

I don't think Aldonza will need any bodyguards. She is the "sadder but wiser girl" (The Music Man), and will be able to cope very nicely, I think, with whatever Sever's one handed aggression might be.

Cris seems to smell a rat with his dad's every other week trips out of town, doesn't he? He is just too inquisitive. Surely this will lead somewhere.

Cande threatens everyone in a desperate attempt to keep the marriage on track, so that her son can have the same happiness the she and Sever share? See what 20 plus years of no sex can do to your mental powers?

Thanks again, Sara. Just great!

David

Hey, Diva, I forgot to mention that last night we went to a supper put on by the Knox County pork producers. There were various agricultural displays, and the Knox County Watermelon Queen was there!

David

David- Cris definitely suspects that Sever's bi-monthly trips are not business. But he doesn't want to outright accuse him of having a mistress. I'm sure it wouldn't be a shock to him, considering he's never seen his parents sleep in the same bedroom.

Thank you for the recap Sara,Poor Roberta RIP, Hopefully Aldonza gets her revenge against all her enemies. She seems like a strong girl

I'm hoping Adelina & the Padre don't get whacked!

Aldonza could pull an Amaya by getting revenge!

Hi, Vivi.

Yeah, it wouldn't be a shock to Cris that his daddy has an out of town squeeze.

If Cris continues down the path of marrying Vale, I think his daddy could give really valuable advice on how best to choose a mistress.

David

Sara! Thank you, my dear! I know your recap is going to be WONderful! I can't wait to enjoy the company on the patio to share in the grief of this sad day. I only made it through half the episode: I watch in the morning and had to get to work (and I'm trying to be good at work). Anyway, can't wait to see the rest and join my friends on the patio.

I didn't get to full-out sobs, but I did shed some tears to see our poor, lost soul, Roberta, cross over.

:/ Lila

Sara – thank you for the recap! I’ve watched almost all the episode and will hopefully finish up while 18-month-old DGD (dear granddaughter) is taking her nap. I’m on babysitting duty because her Montessori school is on spring break… Oy vey…. do I feel old! That kid is a toddler-nado! LOL

Sev’s cara de “oh crap” was priceless when Cris said he wants to accompany him on his next “business” trip.

Padre Jer’s blessing of Roberta’s body when unloaded from the ambulance was Oh. So. Touching. So much caring and compassion toward such a tragic person and her tragic life. Best. Priest. Ever.
I really did cry at that scene.

”Seve could harm her again. Aldonza is determined. What could he do that he hasn't already done?”
Ummmm …. maybe rape her and get her pregnant this time???

Sara – unfortunately, the dog in my avatar is one I found during Reina de Corazones … diamond tiara and all that. (one had to watch to understand) Hacking a pic online was way cheaper than buying a tiara for a selfie or a dog-ie. ;-) Who knew tiaras are so expen$ive???

Susanlynn – thank you for putting a positive point of view toward ‘Lardo because I really cannot stand him.

I think we’re seeing how strong a character we have in Lola, for Aldonza’s sake. Aldi will need a very strong BFF when she returns to Santa Lucia!

FWIW, I don't know when or where it started here on Caray, but on the Reina page we used the acronym
ISBIS = it sounds better in Spanish.

Doris, ITA about Padre J stopped to bless Roberta's body before they haul her off. That was so touching and even comforting.

Nope, sorry to say, didn't find any good antiquey red lockets. I'm totally ready to buy one if I see it though!

Now, if this was any other novela, I might be hoping that they bring Roberta back...as a ghost! I've seen it done before. But I doubt Roberta's ghost would stand for it. Might make for some uncomfortable moments at the McMansion, though...

J in Oregon

J in Oregon - Having Roberta's ghost come back would totally rock! She was a troubled spirit and might be stuck in the in-between zone of spirits. Like Purgatory, I guess....?

David said:
"I like how Lola is fighting Vale just because Vale is a bitch, and not worthy of respect."

Word!

Vivi-Cris totally suspects! I think he just wants his parents to admit they are miserable and move on to happier lives. He definitely hates the TN "stay together for appearances" trope.

Anon8:39-I want Aldonza to get her revenge, but I don't want her to sell her soul while she does it.

Steve-Oh I hope Adelina and Padre are with us for a while!

Lila-I didn't get hysterical, but I definitely shed some tears.

doris- Yes. Tiaras are expensive, but I have two in my classroom. And sometimes I wear one and make my students address me as "your majesty" LOL. We may have to institute ISBIS because I find myself thinking it a lot as I write my recaps. (I wish they had not started the 3-in-1 episodes with Reina. I stopped watching when they did.)

Sara, what was particularly poignant and lovely about your recap was not only your choice of words but tone. You gave tribute to Roberta, the amazing Susana by your "soft spoken" words. You reiterated the facts without embellishment and let the powerful scenes speak for themselves. "Aldonza makes the vow to her mother and Roberta slips away"... Aldonza is beside herself with grief and tells her mother she needs her and begs her not to leave her".

I join everyone in feeling very sad - the heart of this story is now gone. While happy she and Aldonza were able to express their mutual love, what a terrible way to die. I'm not sure how Aldonza will endure. and doris, I can only echo your "poor Aldonza".

susanlynn, your "I guess that Roberta lived a life on the edge for so long..too hot not to cool down" captured my sentiments exactly.

There will never be a reunion with her lost child. It is sad how things are continuing to spiral downward for Emmanuel. He has no one except support from Cris.

Will leave comments on other characters until another time.

Sara, thank you for your sensitivity.

Diana

You are very kind, Diana.

I really enjoy reading comments every day. They always give me something to think about.

Diana your point about Roberta never knowing her lost child is really hitting me. I'm glad they had that moment. I hope Emmanuel at least can find out Roberta was her mother and he can cherish that memory. I also hope he and Aldonza can become close.

Where is my comment? I proved that I wasn't a robot and then hit publish. I don't have time to do it again.
the gringo

That is weird, gringo. It didn't even show up in my email so I can copy and paste it. I'm sorry.

Thanks for trying, though!

Yeah---It was my first comment today and my praise and sorrow for Roberta. Maybe I can try again later.
the gringo

Well, we just arrived at our favorite b &b down the shore, and I am starting to relax as I read Sara's excellent and sensitively written recap of a sad episode.Even better, the sun is shining as I sit in our rooms bay window and nibble at from the cheese tray.

My daughter gave me a locket a few years ago that I put photos into ,and it is one of my most treasured possessions. I will check out the antique stores here for lockets.

Roberta's passing reminds us that we can still love people who are deeply and hopelessly flawed.

Well, off to teatime . Tomorrow we get a complimentary whiskey tasting and Irish luncheon before teatime . And I do not have to cook, clean up, or make my bed for the whole weekend. Winning.

Susanlynn - Winning, indeed! Enjoy your weekend of luxury. Maybe they will serve Irish Soda Bread. ( I am addicted to the stuff)

Hi, Sara. Thank you, darlin' for this wonderfully sensitive recap. It was beautiful. We don't have to snark all the time.

Oh *siiiiigh*. Asi es la vida. Que en paz descanse Roberta!

I can't react a lot right now. I think I need a nap. I'll be back later, read comments and such.

Thanks again, Sara!

Doris..here's the menu : bubble and squeak cakes, Dublin coddle, and Irish soda cakes. These are all a mystery to me with my English/German background and Hub's Danish/German background. Our inn host is of Irish heritage.

Sara..I like your style. We would have had a lot of fun teaching together. I was friends with all the fun teachers. Now, I am realizing that I should have worn a tiara.

I am happy to report that the psychedelic psycho cats did NOT make an appearance in my dreams last night. Instead I got zombies *facepalm*

Sara, I'll see your wondering about Renato and raise you a wondering about locale in general. Are we going to get a show that takes place in both the DF and Santa Lucia? If everybody relocates, they'd better have a very good reason for it! I'm remembering how Soy Tu Duena started out in the city and then as soon as Val(?) made a run for it out to her hacienda slowly everyone else drifted out there to join her.

Daisynjay, maybe Sev knows a good toady when he sees one? He's got Melesio, who always follows orders, but would probably balk at being asked to do anything horrible. Humberto is starting to show signs of wanting to cut the puppet strings. What's an Evil Overlord to do but start auditioning new henchmen? In fact, I hope he does start getting Abelardo to do some of his dirty work, since that has high screw-up potential!

David, All hail the Watermelon Queen! On the finale of Top Chef Estrellas one of the contestants served up a grilled watermelon salad :) I don't think I'm ever going to be able to look at melons the same way again.

Steve, Aldonza does have that revenge-y gleam in her eyes, but so far it sounds like her idea of revenge is just not letting Sev get away with ruining her life.

doris, I think I know a few "toddler-nados" myself!

J, if Roberta comes back as a ghost I might have to bump this one up to Best Show Ever!

doris and Sara...even ISBIS sounds better than It Sounds Better In Spanish (at least the way I'm hearing it in my mind!)

susanlynn, that all sounds fabulous and I hope you enjoy every minute of it!

Susanlynn-your vacation sounds divine. Eat a few extra nibbles of everything for me. I'm not sure if I am a fun teacher or if I have finally just lost it.

Lila-Between La Sombra and QA I am emotionally spent almost every day!! I hope the episode you recap tonight is not as rough as the QA episode you had earlier this week!

5ft-I hope everyone ends up in Santa Lucia. I love the scenery (and I just looked it up, they filmed in Veracruz and Puebla.)

If they ever do something like a bus tour of historic telenovela filming sites, I'm so there! Although, swimming around in El Santuario is probably not as romantic with a bunch of strangers :D

Susanlynn - I'm not familiar with any of those menu items. Hubby and I ate mostly fish & chips (the fresh
fish over there is awesome, we often had potatoes 2 or 3 ways in the same meal! LOL) at pubs, both times we have been to Ireland, and our B&Bs were not quite as fancy. Plz tell all after you've sampled these culinary delights. They sound like fun and it's making me hungry.

I'm just really getting into this one but there's a whole lot of slapping going on.and I think that guy that raped aldonza is really sleazy he should really get what he deserves. his son cris should find out what he did to the one he loves, aldonza.
