La Sombra del Pasado #22 - Wed 3/18 - Do tell!

Sev finishes up his little offended innocent act for the Padre and stalks off.  He's approached by Abelardo.  Bad timing, dude.  No, you may NOT have an advance on your salary!  Abelardo keeps on walking, right past Candela who is continuing the lies and backing Sev up.  Candela should be in politics.  She managed to say "My husband is an honest man" without conveying even the slightest hint of disgust…no, that she saved for Aldonza and the ridiculous assertion that she must be some kind of liar because "We all know her mother."  Padre J reminds her that Aldonza and her mother are two separate people.  And besides, Roberta is dead.  "I think you trust in your husband too much."  Cande says of course she trusts him!  He's her husband!  She knows him better than anyone!  Padre J calls BS…uh, in a completely clerical way…asking if she knows him SO well, if there's SUCH great communication between them, then why didn't she have any idea about him being stabbed?  'Cause he could tell she was just hearing the news.  Why wouldn't she have been informed, sine her husband has such a clean, clear conscience?  Padre J leaves her to stew.

Melesio and Cris have a ride and a chat.  Melesio is withholding judgement on Abelardo for a while.  They lament the state of Roberta's former property.  Melesio says it's great, even without the "huerta" (farm, orchard).  Cris thinks they should rent the house, but Melesio says no one would want to live in Roberta's old house.  Cris thinks that's too bad.  He doesn't say whether he would or wouldn't live there, but he's leaving soon anyway.  He admits to Melesio that he wants to leave so he can be independent, but also because there are just too many memories here.  Melesio warns him not to make a bad decision just to avoid those memories.

Abelardo is eating at the hacienda, while the rest of his family get to have lunch in peace for once.  Or not…Abelardo comes in, angrily demanding to know what Ulises said to his boss.  He accuses his dad of saying bad things about him and says it must be his fault that Severiano treated him "badly" just now.  Ulises says he just thanked him and told him to treat Abelardo like any other employee and be firm with him.  Abelardo doesn't appreciate that and considers it siccing Severiano on him.  Uriel loses his temper and his appetite, saying if Abelardo wants to gain Sev's confidence, he'll have to do it with some actual work.  He excuses himself to take his siesta.

On his way out of the house, Abelardo runs into Humberto and plays the dutiful son well enough to get Humberto to hand over his loan paperwork with the promise that he'll make sure his dad sees it.  Ay, Humberto!  He doesn't even know the kid's name, calling him "Bernardo."  Abelardo stands there on the sidewalk, perusing the doc's financial information.

Candela takes Severiano to task for nearly blowing their "happily married couple" cover.  Sev laughs that he would have thought she had already told Padre J all about their relationship, in confession at least.  She's pissed that he didn't tell her about what happened with "that kid" and he treats it like a jealous outburst and delivers "Since when do you care what happens to me" as a come-on.  Candela brushes off his advances and starts her temper tantrum about how Aldonza might come looking for Cris!  "That's why I went to talk to her.  But, hey, if you want to talk to her, go for it!  Maybe you'll have better luck."  Well, I'm pretty sure she won't get a letter opener to the gut.

At the staircase, she runs into Abelardo, who would like to speak to the patron.  "Like I care.  Get out of my way!"

Abelardo shuts Sev's office door to show him something that might get him more than just an advance.  He took pictures of all of Humberto's paperwork before he handed it over and it's all right there on his phone.

Joaquin comes over to the parish house to drop off a basket of fruit…and explain why he got married.  Adelina cuts him off and says he sure as heck doesn't have any explaining to do.  She's happy he took her advice and started a family.

Severiano tries to deny his interest in Humberto's finances.  Abelardo admits, with no shame whatsoever, that he heard Sev saying as much to Candela.  Not that he was eavesdropping, he just happened to be passing by…coincidentally.  Severiano warns him about "coincidences" and tells a charming story about how he once hit a cow with his truck who just happened to be in the road at the same time…coincidentally.  Abelardo starts to apologize and back out, but it's just a ploy.  He's got Sev's number.  Severiano tells him to sit down, send the stuff to his email, and tell him how much of an advance he's looking for.

Joaquin named his son after Raymundo.  He liked the name and has lots of good memories of Raymundo.  Adelina agrees and says she probably would have named a son after him as well…if she'd ever had one.  Joaquin says he's around for whatever Adelina and Aldonza need.  Adelina says he was always a good friend and she hopes that doesn't change.

Lulu is confirming the grocery list with Padre J.  As she leaves, Aldonza comes into the church.  She's been house-hunting.  She's not sure if they're going to stay long-term, but at least for a while.  She doesn't want to keep imposing by staying in Padre J's house, but he insists that he likes having her around.  She's the only family he has left and he wants her to see him as someone to rely on and someone she can tell anything to.

Outside the office, Sev remembers one last thing--to tell Abelardo that this stays between them.  If he ever finds out that Abelardo opened his mouth, he'll get a visit from "el chamuco" (the devil).  Abelardo says he's silent as a tomb.  "Exactly.  Now go get back to work."

Cristobal and Melesio come back from their ride to find Valeria waiting.  Cris approaches her cautiously and she rips into him for not telling her that Aldonza was in town.  "I didn't think you'd care."  Wrong!  Unlike Cris, she does want to know his every move.  Cristobal says he just ran into her, he wasn't going looking for her.  Now she's pissed that it happened multiple times, and that he's asking her to please lower her voice.  Candela hasn't gotten to that part of the training curriculum yet, so Valeria turns it into even more of a scene and starts screaming at him that she doesn't care who hears her--he's the one who should be embarrassed for treating her this way.  She warns him that he's not going to turn her into a laughingstock.  Cris says she's too upset for this conversation to go anywhere and suggests she go home and take a sedative.  That earns him a slap across the face before she stomps out.  Melesio yells at the guys that the circus is over and to get back to work.

Mari is telling her mom the story of the Valeria-Aldonza meeting while Lola is listening in.  Mari's mom tells her to shush and quit spreading gossip.  Mari's excuse is that this isn't gossip and she's worried about her friend.  In a much nicer way that I'm putting it here, Mari's mom tells her to quit worrying about Val and get a life of her own.  Mari pouts that her mom doesn't understand her and leaves.  Lola asks if Mari's mom has a problem with Mari hanging out with Valeria.  Mom doesn't really have a problem with Valeria, per se, but that Mari is just sooooo dazzled by all things Valeria.  She also thinks that Mari is just doing it to get closer to that hunk Emmanuel.  Sad Lola.

Dominga would like Candela to confide in her like she did when she was young.  Maybe she can help.  Candela says she doesn't like that Aldonza has come home.  She doesn't know how to stop worrying about it.  Dominga says that if Cristobal is really in love then she has nothing to worry about…but if he's not? Better to find that out now or later or his marriage will be a disaster, and Candela knows better than anyone else what she means.  "See why I didn't want to tell you anything!  Instead of making me feel better, you're criticizing me!"  Dominga says she's not, she's just saying what she thinks.  She holds Candela as Candela cries.  Candela says she's scared.  About a lot of things.

Cristobal watches Emmanuel train one of the horses.  Abelardo comes over to start trouble.  He mocks Cristobal about the scene his fiancée caused.  Sure, it's none of his concern, but Valeria's right to be jealous, what with Aldonza and Cristobal's history.  Cristobal says he's in no mood to waste his time, or to discuss his personal life with Abelardo.  "Maybe it would be to your benefit.  I could tell you some things that might help you control Valeria."  Like, where the "OFF" switch is?  Cris isn't interested in "controlling" anyone.  "Well, maybe you'd be interested to know that she's not as sweet and good as she wants you to think she is."  Abelardo tells him that even in the midst of planning The Wedding of the Century, Valeria's screwing around on him.  Cristobal grabs him by the shirt and demands to know who she's screwing around with.  Rather than do that, Abelardo starts swinging on Cris and gets knocked into a mud puddle for his trouble.  Emmanuel comes over to bust it up.  Cris asks again who.  "Ask her, not me 'boss.'"

Melesio tells Dominga he was really uncomfortable with the scene outside.  Dominga wonders why Cris doesn't put a stop to it, since it's obvious Valeria's the one who doesn't respect him.  She misses Melesio's warning look.  Candela overheard and wants to know what they're saying about Valeria.  Dominga tells Melesio to spill it, since everyone saw.

Emmanuel tells Cris that Abelardo just likes to talk.  "He must have said it for a reason."  Emmanuel asks if he trusts Val or not.  "Tell me the truth, Emmanuel.  Do you know what he's talking about?  You live with her.  Who does she talk to on the phone?  Does someone come visit her?"  Emmanuel asks why he's jealous.  Is it his ego or what?  He won't say more than that Valeria is dying to be Cris' wife.  "So if you have doubts, then you need to ask her about them."  I'll give him points for being classy, but that was unhelpful.

Adelina thinks about meeting Joaquin's cutie-pie son…and sour-faced wife.  She sighs.  Aldonza comes in and asks about the fruit.  She laughs at Adelina saying that Joaquin brought it for "them."  Adelina shuts that down right quick and tells Aldonza that Joaquin is married, so remarks like that are inappropriate.  She also says his wife is very pretty.  With that look on her face?!  Aldonza says Adelina should have married him herself.  She would have liked for Adelina to get married and have her own family, but Adleina says Aldonza IS her family.  "Some women just aren't meant to marry."  Though she admits there was a boy she liked once.  He married someone else and she locked up her heart so no one could hurt it again.  Aldonza says he was a ninny not to recognize what a great catch her aunt would have been.  Adelina just doesn't want history to repeat itself.  She hopes Aldonza finds a guy who loves her and will make her happy.  Aldonza thinks she might not be meant for marriage either.  She'd also like to lock up her heart so she doesn't get hurt again.

Joaquin comes home with some toys for Raymundo.  His wife says they're nice and kisses him hello pleasantly enough.  She's suspicious about him going over to the parish house when he'd already seen Adelina at the market.  Though, now that he's seen her and Aldonza both and given Aldonza his condolences, he has no reason to go over there again.  Um, actually…Aldonza wasn't home.  Let the screeching begin.  How convenient that she wasn't there…doesn't Joaquin think she knows what he's up to?  How is she supposed to not be upset when he's spoken to her several times about how long he pined for Adelina.  "That was in the past.  We're married and we have a wonderful son.  The two of you are the best thing that's happened in my life."  He seems sincere and she softens, asking him to just please give Aldonza his condolences, but not spend a lot of time talking to her aunt.  She gives him a final joking warning that he'll be sorry if she ever finds out he let her down.  She goes to wake up Raymundo for lunch and Joaquin's face falls.  Another dude displaying classy behavior.  Only this time I think it will come back to bite him in the ass.

Valeria sits in the café crying.  Now Candela starts in on the lesson about keeping up appearances.  She beats Val over the head with what a bad move that little scene was.  It almost sounds like Candela is ready to fire Val and find someone to replace her with, but it's slim pickings in this town, so she'll settle for berating her and reminding her that Cristobal doesn't like jealous scenes.  How would she even know that when he's barely lived with her and it's not like he's had previous girlfriends who came around and caused trouble?  Valeria says it wasn't a "scene," she was defending what's hers.  Um…no, Val, it was a scene.  Candela patiently explains to her star pupil that back when this whole Aldonza business first started, she and Sev tried everything to get Cris to leave her alone, but all he did was get even more "encaprichado" (infatuated) with her.  Val says the same thing won't happen to her, since they're engaged and he would NEVER disrespect her like that.  Candela asks if she's sure.  Well, if he breaks off the engagement and THEN rekindles his romance with Aldonza then there wouldn't be any "disrespecting" going on, right?  Just saying, Val.  Anyway…red-nosed Val just doesn't know how to follow Candela's "strategy" and control herself when she hates Aldonza so much.  "Act like nothing bothers you, even if you're dying inside.  Don't give that slut the satisfaction of knowing how much her presence bothers you.  Trust me, you'll have my son eating out of your hand.  If instead of going crazy and ranting, you behave coldly and sure of yourself…you can feel jealousy, but don't show it."  I hope this course comes with a money-back guarantee, 'cause there are holes in this logic big enough to drive a train through.

Abelardo is studying Humberto's financials on his phone when Mari comes in to filch some ear buds.  She notices his mouth and he claims a horse kicked him.  We should be so lucky.  She hints at drama with Val and he demands info.  Nooooooo, not the cat shirt again!  Does he not have any other shirts?!  Stop the madness!  Mari pretends she's not going to tell, until Abelardo says he'll make it worth her while.  She shares the story about Val and Aldonza running into each other outside Humberto's office.  Abelardo wonders why Aldonza was there.

Lola and Aldonza are FINALLY having some coffee.  Aldonza is a little disappointed that instead of being able to give Lola the gossip firsthand, she's already heard it.  "Hey, gossip is the main sport in this town!"  Lola's sorry she wasn't there to give Val a hearty smack.  Aldonza thinks that's a good thing, or Lola would have left Val "como Santo Cristo" (beat up; like Christ).  Lola asks Aldonza if she's really not upset that Val is marrying Cristobal.  Aldonza says what he does with his life really doesn't matter to her.  "Really, what we had wasn't so significant that I shouldn't have been able to forget him in all these years."  Lola says some loves are forever, right?  "Well, this wasn't one of them."  Lola now wants to talk DF guys and doesn't believe Aldonza never had boyfriends out there.  Well, what about Lola, Aldonza wonders.  Nah, Lola says she's "salada" (jinxed, unlucky; literally "salted" as in "salted earth")  and besides, Emmanuel is the only one who interests her.  And he's in love with Valeria and there's other girls in love with him, but Lola's considering getting an "envase" (container) for San Antonio so she can put him on his head without him falling over all the time.  They giggle over the superstition, but hey, maybe it'll work.

Severiano shows Humberto his account statement.  The important thing isn't how he got it, the important thing is that now Severiano knows that Humberto doesn't have the money to pay him for El Santuario.  Humberto mentions a loan.  "How are you going to get a loan to buy a property that's already yours?"  Humberto says that's his problem.  "No!  Your problem is me!  Gimme back my land!"  Humberto reminds him they were going to give the land to the kids…but he refuses to put it in Cristobal's name.  He won't let them leave his daughter hanging.  "You won't LET…?  Careful, 'compadre' because you're on rocky ground."  Sev says it was his money, but Humberto reminds him it was his name.  "Your name is worthless and you ought to know that."  Severiano reminds Humberto he's in no position to make demands, and he's running the risk that Val never ends up marrying Cris.  "At this point, nothing would give me more pleasure.  Because honestly, I'd rather she not become part of your 'prestigious' family."  Severiano reminds him that it took HIS reputation to get Humberto established in SL.  And if he doesn't sign over the property, Humberto is going to find out what Sev is capable of.  I think he already got that memo, but ok.

Cristobal comes to town, claiming not to be mad and saying he wants to forget it.  Val asks him to forgive her, but he has a question.  "Do you love me?"  "Why are you asking?"  "No, answer me."  "Of course I do!  Why do you doubt it!"  Cristobal says she's pretty and she's probably had lots of suitors, and maybe she's interested in one of them…?  Valeria says she's only interested in him.  He wants her to always be sincere with her, even if it means telling him that she doesn't want to marry him or he's not the man who's going to make her happy.  Val lies a bunch about there being no other men for her, that she's never been unfaithful, and that she's not going to tell him again.  She kisses him and snuggles up, looking not even a tiny bit reassured.  He looks trapped, and also…not a bit reassured.

Emmanuel is at the parish house when Lola and Aldonza come in.  He wanted to give Aldonza his condolences.  As he hugs her, she makes a face a Lola behind his back.  He offers to take her out if she needs a distraction, but no, Aldonza's not in the mood to go out right now.  "But, hey, why don't you take Lola out."  Emmanuel…dear, sweet, hunky, STUPID Emmanuel…says "Are you kidding me?  Lola and I see each other every day.  But I haven't seen you in a while.  Well, if you don't want to, we'll go out another day."  And with barely a look at Lola, he walks out.  Lola is instantly in tears at how badly Em wanted to go out with Aldonza and how she's totally insignificant to him.  Ay, Lola!  One day he'll come around and you can make him spend the rest of his life paying for being such a dumbass.

Abelardo tries the "horse" excuse on his mom, but with a minimum of questioning 'fesses up that it was Cris who hit him.  He claims he did nothing to provoke Cris and Cris just has something against him.  He swears he didn't do anything wrong and he's trying, for once, to do a good job.  Now he's going to have to quit.  Oh, hell no, says mom.  He'd better figure out how to keep his job, because she convinced his dad that he wasn't going to screw this job up.  "So you'd better talk to Cristobal and do whatever you have to do to make this right…BEFORE your father finds out and they DO fire you."

Emmanuel is IRL shirtless in his room when Val invades to ask him why he went running to Cris.  He tells her to knock next time, for one, and for another he didn't say anything.  "I could have, but you should be talking to Abelardo.  He's the one who's been running his mouth to Cris.  He told Cris that you've been screwing around on him, but he didn't dare tell him who with."  He advises her to talk to Cris because Cris loves her a lot.  Val sarcastically thanks him, but says she doesn't need anyone's advice, much less that of a servant.

Cris comes home and hits the drinks cart.  Severiano intuits that he has woman problems.  Cris says it's not about Valeria.  "Come on, tell your old man what's going on."  Cristobal says Abelardo is bugging him.  Severiano offers to fire him, if Cris asks.  "Why do I have to ask?  Why don't you fire him yourself and be done with it?  I'm not going to take on your responsibility to fire him, no matter how much I hate the guy.  As much as I try to explain to myself why you hired him, I can't figure it out."  Sev starts to reply, but is bothered by his wound.  He tells Cris it's nothing, but Candela appears on the landing…"Tell him the truth, Severiano.  Tell your son what Aldonza Alcocer did to you."

Tomorrow: Adelina reveals her doubts about Roberta's second baby and Cris confronts Aldonza about Sev's injury.

Not quite as much excitement as I was hoping for, but the story is still moving along. Pacing...they haz it!

Thank you Diva, Are we the first on the patio this a.m?

Have not read the recap yet, need another cup of coffee and will settle in to enjoy.

Yep, I was far too wiped last night to string together words, and frankly, this morning wasn't much better.

Yesterday was an excessively exciting day. I had an evening rehearsal on the books already, but was asked to go with our director and playwright to the local PBS station to do an interview about the play. I'm not sure when it airs, but there will be video up online once it does. After stressing over what to wear most of the day, barely being able to eat anything because my nerves were getting the better of me, and then going to the rehearsal right after, the "words" thing just wasn't happening!

Kat- You did a fabulous job, despite being so tired. Thank you for taking the time to give us such a complete recap, with your trademark sass.

Not an explosive episode, but lots of interesting things set up. I wonder how Cris will take learning that Aldonza stabbed his daddy? I still don't think she'll reveal what Sever did to her. Padre basically begged to confide in him this episode, and she still hasn't told him.

Abelardo is too much in the know about a lot of stuff for my liking. Now he's officially on Sever's payroll. Didn't like him asking why Aldonza had gone to see Humberto. I do think accepting Aldonza's rent is starting to look better to Humberto than that loan now.

Joaquin is still totally into Adelina. I think Adelina is going to be drawn into a love triangle, whether she wants to or not. I love that he named his son after Raymundo (Adelina's beloved Raymundo). Do you think Ray is the guy Adelina fell for, and Roberta the woman he chose over her?

I enjoyed shirtless Emmanuel. Too bad Lola wasn't there to enjoy it. Of course, he would have been totally oblivious to her drooling.

Gracias, Vivi! Of all the things for that little twerp to be proactive about, why did it have to be investigating people's private lives? Couldn't he just deal drugs or steal cars or something instead?

Adelina was totally into Ray. Roberta used to needle her about it, the bitch! (Miss you, love you, even when you weren't very nice!)

Hi, 5ft, thanks so much for this recap. I understand how hard it is when you have other tiring responsibilities.

Uriel telling Lardo that he needs to do ACTUAL work was wasted wind; Lardo will do DIRTY work for Sev.

If Vale was my fiancé, that screaming, slapping scene would have resulted in my inviting her to search for someone else to share genes with.

Gringo (from yesterday) I don't want to see Cris and Vale married, but I am enjoying all the revelations about Vale as they progress TOWARD the wedding.

David

Yeah, I figured Ray was the one and only guy for Adelina, but wondered if there had been someone before. But it seems like she and Roberta met Ray around the same time, perhaps Adelina even met him first, but he fell for Roberta. In the present, Lola is the invisible Adelina, Emmanuel the clueless Ray, and Valeria the bitch he loves, like Roberta.

In the present, Lola is the invisible Adelina, Emmanuel the clueless Ray, and Valeria the bitch he loves, like Roberta...and Cris is the #1 Stud in town she desires, like Sever, and Aberlado (and other lovers) just there to scratch an itch.

Gracias, David! That was a ridiculous scene, and I'm a little disappointed in Cristobal that he didn't take that and say "OK, no matter what I did or didn't do, this wasn't an appropriate way to handle it and I'm not signing up for a lifetime of this." Only a "little" mind you, because I think he's basically a dumbass. I just hope that he grows out of it before the end.

Vivi, I was actually thinking that Val's little scene was very reminiscent of Roberta, but I felt so disloyal making the comparison that I didn't want to say anything!

Although we loved her, there is no denying that Roberta had a lot in common with a villain like Val. The difference is that Roberta was a tragic figure, but she brought on much of that tragedy herself.

What did you think of Cande breaking down and crying in Dominga's arms? A crack in her icy facade that we haven't seen since before Roberta-Sever affair/baby reveal.

Also, way more attractive, and STILL better at regulating her emotions than Valeria, even though she sucked at that. Roberta was a drama queen, but Valeria is merely a drama princess. Or possibly a drama lady-in-waiting. And now she's got Candela confusing her with all this "hide your feelings" nonsense. Don't listen, Val...let it out...let it allllllll out!

Another Vale/Roberta similarity-- they treat loyal Mari/Adelina like their personal servants.

Kat- Ha! It would be fun if Val ignored the Ice Queen's advice and set her inner hot blooded Roberta free. She already has the wild hair for the role.

I'm highly intrigued by the crying. It may not have any significance beyond just what we already know--that she had some great love she traded in for Sev; that she's miserable with Sev; that she has nothing left in her life but her social status. But I feel like there's something more to it, especially if she's talking about being "afraid." And I think she means "scared" not "worried."

Hola everyone

Diva, thanks for the fantastic recap. It was great and I can't believe you did it after all the other stuff on your schedule!

Vivi- Yeah, that was an interesting scene for Candela. I think the actress is having fun with the icy character, but I'm glad to see a little range. Roberta was all over the place, but Susana gave her a lot of rich foundation to play with. Candela has similar potential, but right now, maybe limited chances to show it?

Nooooooo, not the cat shirt again! Does he not have any other shirts?! Stop the madness! hahahahaha!!!

Emmanuel…dear, sweet, hunky, STUPID Emmanuel smh..mm mm mmm so accurate on the Lola front.

Also, how did Val's eyes not pop out of her head when she walked into E's room. I def paused mid (futile) sit up because WHOA! Mmm! That boy is fine!

This is true. They both act like they're the center of the universe and everyone else is just there to do their bidding. I think Mari's mom is right to be concerned about the way Mari's just trailing around after Val all day. At least Adelina did have a life of her own...even if it consisted in taking care of all of the responsibilities her sister was dropping. And she has the dressmaking, which I hope she'll bring to Santa Lucia. Without Roberta, Adelina still has most of the same stuff to do, just less stress. Without Valeria? I don't even know what Mari was doing the whole time she was in Spain, because she sure seems to have no other occupation but following Val around now that she's back.

Gracias, HellaShelle! "Also, how did Val's eyes not pop out of her head when she walked into E's room. I def paused mid (futile) sit up because WHOA! Mmm! That boy is fine!" HELLO! YES! And not even a hint of attraction from her whatsoever. What a waste! He's right there...under the same roof...probably getting shirtless multiple times a day...showering after those long sweaty days at work.... Did it just get warm in here?

Diva:
A)your recap rocked!
B) we want the link to see your interview about the play.
C)your recap rocked some more-- Thank you!

When Val does her cryin'-lyin' to Chris, I just want to pinch her head until it twists off like a piece of Play-Do.

I also thought Val was not totally immune to Emmanuel's statuesque physique, but she used her sneer to cover it up.

Running back to work...

J in Oregon

Beautiful Kat. I loved the title. Your narratives always read like a perfectly executed short story.

Thank you for the marvelous recap despite your very busy night last night. Congrats on the interview! Your career is progressing at lightening speed.

"She managed to say "My husband is an honest man" without conveying even the slightest hint of disgust…no, that she saved for Aldonza and the ridiculous assertion that she must be some kind of liar because "We all know her mother" and "Candela hasn't gotten to that part of the training curriculum yet, so Valeria turns it into even more of a scene" were among my many favorites.

While I still mourn and miss Roberta, this has me on the edge of my seat - I don't want to miss a moment.

Vivi, I agree Adelina loved Ray. "In the present, Lola is the invisible Adelina, Emmanuel the clueless Ray, and Valeria the bitch he loves, like Roberta" was excellent.

I fear all of you are much kinder than I. I felt not the slightest stirring of concern or pity during Cande's torrent of tears. A heartless ice princess sheathed in pale moonlight.

I loathe the fact Valeria treats Emmanuel so dismissively. And Alex Sirvent, who is so very handsome deserves so much credit for morphing into character, a quiet, conflicted loaner with a heart of gold who is shunned and reviled, yet whose kindness never waivers.

Joaquin is still clearly in love with Adelina. Is Adelina in for more heartbreak?

Diana

Gracias, gracias, gracias, J! I'll post as soon as the link goes live. Val's only able to pretend so well because she thinks he's just a "servant." When/if it turns out that he's Sev's son also, she might change her tune.

Gracias, Diana! I'm worried for Joaquin, Adelina, and little baby Ray, 'cause Flavia is NOT messing around. And I can see her beauty when she's calm, but that only lasted about five seconds. She barely needs an excuse and she's ready to lop his bits off. I wonder if Adelina recognized that in Flavia and it's why she's being so careful to not even let Aldonza joke about how Joaquin has a thing for her.

Reading the comments today really reminds me of how TNs are often one or two love stories told multiple times, in multiple generations. We have the Adelina/Ray/Rob vs. Lola/Emmanuel/Vale comparison, the Adelina/Joaquin/Flavia vs. Aldonza/Cris/Vale, the Ray/Rob/Sev vs. Cris/Vale/Abe (which isn't love, just betrayal). It's interesting to see how similar circumstances have different outcomes.

Yes, poor Mari just ground the rumor mill until Vale came back. If Lola thinks she's invisible, what does Mari think she is, because I'm not sure E even registeres her existence. Or have we just not seen them together yet?

To add to the Mari=Adelina discussion, in Ade's favor, she didn't have stars in her eyes when it came to her sister. She definitely had her own opinions and wasn't afraid to share them.

Love it Kat!

"but it's slim pickings in this town, so she'll settle for berating her"

I actually liked this one last night, Val feeling some heat, Cande showed a wobble, PG told Aldonza he got her back. I didn't like the typical jealous TN wife cause she's got a real reason to worry.

That ratfink Abelardo, gah, I want to dot both his eyes.

Come on Emmanuel, save your brother.

I have no sympathy for Cande, she's sided with the devil, let her burn.

Lola, just be glad this ain't the real world cause Mari wouldn't be your only competition. Grrrrrrrr

Dammit Cris, high hopes for you kido, at least try to duck next time Val comes at you with that roundhouse.

Ugh.

I'm thinking about Vale's outburst again and really wishing that Cris had made it clear that if she doesn't trust him enough to talk to someone he had a thing for over a long weekend several years ago, then maybe they shouldn't be getting married. But it strikes me that he really does care about her, and he knows that she really does have a reason to be worried (though her method is a little ridic). It does seem like she's never made a scene like this before though, which is kind of interesting. In all those years of dating, no one else has ever made her jealous enough to lash out?

Thank you thank you! had a darn phone call in the middle of Val's screaming, so greatly appreciated what that translated out to and the scenes shortly thereafter. I'm going to have to tell family, no calls between 7-8 EST Mon thru Fri. Period.

Oh, yeah, I couldn't agree more on how the blazes Val could stand in that room with E-Man and not even do a double take. I may be old, but I'm not dead and that was soooo enjoyable. I don't like the over-bulging weight lifter types myself. Just perfect and any further repeats will be appreciated.

I was disappointed in Cris' lack of putting his foot down with Val then after that screamfest. Small town girl, how is he NOT going to run into Allie. I mean seriously. The man now knows he's marring a shrew, and if she takes his mumsy's advice, he'll be marrying a cold fish. If he keeps moving towards this marriage, he either is stupider than we thought or a masocist.I don't care Allie doesn't want him, he doesn't HAVE to marry the shrieking shrew.

Poor Lola, but I couldn't fault Emmanuel really. He grew up with Lola, sees her all the time, he was there specifically to talk and see Allie who he hadn't seen in ages. He turned and waved back to Lola like any friend would. Frankly, I have to wonder what will happen to get him to see her any different if he's known her this long and there is not that spark on his side. I do wish they would fix her hair different though. Don't care for the wet look strands.

So Seve threatens Hum over the land and that he set him up with his business in town...so here's my thinking. YOU ARE A DOCTOR. Not like you can't move and start a practice somewhere else if someone is threatening your life and family. just sayin'. What will the man do or are we watching a dead man walking?

Val's trying to close this deal. Aldonza's presence and Abelardo's game, can blow this thing up. Of course she wants to blame Aldonza, Cris or Emmanuel first. Wonder if she jumps in the sack with Abelardo to get him to keep quiet, she wants to.

I enjoyed your hard work---you must have been very tired but your brilliance still shown through. You really made me laugh
because you hit the nail on the head when you said that Lardo would make the perfect drug dealer or car thief.

I can't wait for tonight when Cris asks Aldonza his fathers injury. I wonder what she will tell him.

I hope that Val throws another one of her temper tantrums in front of Cris so that he will be able to see the real Valeria.

Thank you for the recap, 5-ft!

I wish Cris would wake up and realize that if Val is not the girl for him.

This wedding can not take place. I don't know how, but it just cannot. Maybe Val with sleep with Abelardo and Cris will find out. I am keeping my fingers crossed!

PadreJ is my favorite character. I hope he doesn't get knocked off by Sev.

It did it again---I wrote my thank you to Diva for giving us a recap through her busy schedule and added a comment or two, posted it-- comments went from 28
to 29, mine was 29. I then left the page to see another novela comment section and when I came back my comment was gone. Does the Caray blog have it in for the gringo gabacho?

Thank you, Kat! Always great!

Thank you Diva! I liked the episode, too and loved your recap! Pretty much most of what I noticed as been said. I agree with J in Oregon though when she said Val was effected by the statuesque Emanuel but covered it with a sneer. Perfect observation, J!

If Cris is going to let Val show her tail like that in public then he deserves what he gets.

Wonder if he's going to feel the fire when he confronts Aldonza about his daddy. He should know his daddy can take care of himself. That's just a flimsy excuse to get within range of Aldonza's body heat.

And what does this mean:

Lola's considering getting an "envase" (container) for San Antonio so she can put him on his head without him falling over all the time.

Thanks again, Diva!

gringo, I dunno what's up with Blogger, but I thank you for both comments. Here's the earlier one:

gracias, tofie! Your Lola comment is unfortunately too dead on! Why none of the town's women have every actually thrown themselves at him is beyond me.

HellaShelle, your comment about Val never getting that jealous about anyone else in all those years of dating made me think. This is an odd little town where none of the young people seeming to be doing any dating at all. Heck, even in the DF, the people Aldonza met at school were all just friends. Which is refreshing, but seems unrealistic. The fact that Val has a sex drive and makes sure she gets satisfied, even if it's not with someone she has an actual relationship with, is probably the most realistic part of this whole setup. And also what makes me not believe for a minute that Val is going to stay "faithful" when in all the time they've been back in town, Cris has barely kissed her, let alone anything else.

Gracias, Daisynjay! That's hilarious about the phone call! Don't they know any better? I so much agree that Cristobal doesn't have to marry anybody, least of all the "shrieking shrew"...what is he, a protagonista?

tofie, I think Val will jump in the sack with Abelardo 'cause she wants to. She'll just make him think it's about keeping him quiet.

Gracias, Doris! Awww, come one...can't we just get to ogle all the (sure-to-be-over-the-top) wedding prep and then have Cris leave her at the altar for no other reason than that he realized he didn't want to get married? I'd almost like it better if he didn't have Val cheating as an excuse and just spontaneously found his spine.

Gracias, Sara!

Gracias, Lila! San Antonio is, for some reason, the patron saint of find a hubby. There are ways to get him to work better/faster, like taking the baby off the statue or positioning him upside down. Usually it's easy enough to use wire or string around the base of the statue and just hang it upside down, so I'm not sure if putting him in a vase or a jar is a joke of Lola's, like she's making fun of herself, implying that she just keeps putting her San Antonio statue on its head and, duh, it can't do a headstand.

Diva---You found it. This time I waited until the comment posted and it did. After that I went to another page and when I came back
it wasn't there. I was beginning to think that Blogger didn't like gringos.

A funny thing is that sometimes I have to prove that I'm not a robot
by identifying the letters that are shown. On other times I just hit I'm not a robot and I get a check mark and all I have to do is hit the publish your comment button. I mean that sometimes I have to prove that I'm not a robot and at other times it just trusts me and lets me in. Is Blogger overloaded?
the gringo

Ever since they changed the "Prove you're not a robot" thing, I always see it even though I'm logged in. And considering I was able to copy and paste your comment, I can't see why it would catch the original message in the spam filter (I'm assuming that's what happened, since it sent the email notification but didn't post on the website) but it left my comment alone.

Anyway...somebody else was having the problem with comments caught in spam a few months ago, but I don't know if they got it fixed or not.

Thanks, Diva, for fitting this recap into your busy life. Good luck with your new venture.

Gee, no wonder Val is panicking and possessive. Cris is not acting like a man in love. He never smiles at Val or holds her hand or initiates a kiss or grabs her waist. Val , on the other hand, is always grabbing his neck and pulling his head down so that she can stare deeply into his eyes. I'd be worried, too. He is just not that into you, girl.

OT- but concerning some actors from 'Sombra'

Now, I'm finding THIS news exciting...

The telenovela 'Amor en silencio', when it first aired in 1989, was a critical and public success. It almost swept the Premios TvyNovelas for that year (it won Best Telenovela, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Female Villain, First Actor, Young Lead Actor, Female Revelation, and Best Writer) and is still considered something of a classic, along the lines of 'Cuna de lobos'.

Well, it's getting redone. Carla Estrada directed the original, while this remake is in the hands of the same writers AND producer who brought us 'Amor bravio', 'En nombre del amor', 'Cuando me enamoro', and 'Quiero amarte'.

What's more, is that they already seem to be harvesting some of the cast of 'Sombra' for this remake. At present, there are but three actors that are confirmed, and two of them are currently in 'Sombra' (which just wrapped up filming this week). Arturo Peniche (last seen in 'La Malquerida') is confirmed, as is Horacio Pancheri (currently Renato in 'Sombra').

But the most INTERESTING news, I think, concerns the casting of the male lead's lunatic sister, the psychotic and BSC 'Mercedes'. This is a role that could almost be considered iconic, indeed, one of the original novelas (which starred Erika Buenfil and Omar Fierro) most famous (or infamous) and critical scenes is available for viewing on YouTube, and it remains one of the most gripping, chilling, well-done scenes I have ever scene in any novela... (I'll refrain from saying more because I don't want to spoil anything, but suffice it to say that I'll share it with all of you once the time comes...). Anyway, the producers have cast Alejandra Barros ('Sombra's' 'beloved' Candela) in this most important role.

Stay tuned!!

(Just thought I'd share this with you all!) :-)

Gracias, Susanlynn! Cris is just not demonstrative, at least not with Val, and considering her sex drive, I just don't see how she thinks she's going to be able to keep this going. Hey, maybe that's part of her outburst--sexual frustration! They haven't even been alone since they got back to town.

Diva, I was losing comments a few months ago, but it was because I downloaded an update on my Apple iPad which had a bug. Then, another update corrected it, and I had no problem posting comments here. I then dropped the Apple and have not had a chance to get it repaired. I am using my cheapie Le Pen tablet and have had no problems posting.

Gringo..Are you using a tablet ?

Susanlynn---I have a laptop.

Looking forward to the recap & tonight's episode!

Steve, are you sure you meant to post that here? Thursday's recap is up AND you posted a comment.
