La Sombra del Pasado #29 3-27-15 Three Caballeros and a Padre

Let’s get right to it!  Adelina is at Humberto’s office to complete the paperwork and get the keys for the Alcocer house.  Adelina has asked Humberto a direct question:  “Was that baby (girl) born dead?  Yes or no?”  Humberto answers with a question, “Why are you asking?  You were there.”  Adelina gets tough for a minute, refreshing his memory that he and Sev took the baby from the room, and then she pleads.  Humberto looks at her evenly and swears by his daughter that “. . . this baby (girl) does not exist.”  Adelina leaves, defeated and a lie lives all over Humberto’s face.

Operation happy family begins at the Mendoza breakfast table.  Sev and Cande are able to fit in a mini inquisition re Cris's whereabouts the preceding night (when he was playing a moonlight Romeo outside of Aldonza’s window); a vote of support for his version of the Lardo beat down story and an assurance that he is free to leave Las Animas as soon as he weds, all before the cornflakes lose their crunch.  Cris wonders why the sudden change of heart but he appreciates it and reassures Sev he will continue to work in the hacienda until he marries.  Cris should’ve hung around one more minute and heard the ominous music and Sev’s vow to make sure he stays.

Adelina gives Aldonza the lease and keys and quick as a flash she’s off to find someone to help her get the house in order, waving aside Adelina and Padre J’s attempts to find out where she’s going.  Padre is very interested in the question Adelina put to Humberto.  She tells him that he “swore by his daughter that the baby (girl) was born dead.”  Padre doesn’t believe that for a minute:  It doesn’t make sense to him that Sev would be intent on carrying away a dead baby and he certainly doesn’t believe it was because he wanted to give it a proper Christian burial.  Padre wants to look more into the background of this whole event and to do that he says he needs Adelina’s authorization.  Ah, Padre J. sure knows how to keep Adelina in the game, doesn’t he?

Over in the kitchen at Las Animas Dominga tells Melesio that she went to see Padre J. about all the questions he was asking Lola.  Dominga wanted to find out if he knew anything.  Melesio is concerned that this will pique Padre’s interest all the more.  Domingo asks him please not to scold her:  she’s worried enough about Lola finding out that they have lied to her all these years!

We have a little skirmish between Lola and Mary over Emanuel.  Lola feels she has won this round when she gives Mary back the chocolates she had given Emanuel, claiming that he rejected them.  Mary harumphs out of the tiendita with the box of chocolates!

Padre J is on the case!  He shows up unannounced at Sev’s study and confronts him about the supposed still birth of the baby he fathered with Roberta and if it died, he wants to know where it is buried.  BAM!  Just like that!  Sev tries to laugh it off but Padre gets right in his face and calls him a coward for denying his relationship with Roberta.  He only wants to know where the baby is.  Sev cynically states that the baby is in limbo, the destination of all babies who die without having been baptized.  Padre doesn’t miss a beat.  He tells Sev he thinks he gave the baby to someone to raise so as to hide his infidelity.  Sev challenges him to look for her and Padre assures him he already is and he thinks the child is closer than anyone could imagine.  Padre warns him to prepare himself because when he least expects it all of the vile deeds he has tried to hide will be exposed and when that day comes, not even The Father in Heaven will be able to help him.

Cande stops Padre on his way out.  He tells her he just saw Sev about something she probably is very aware of, seeing as how they are such a united couple.  It has to do with the hatred they share for his late sister in law, Roberta, and he is starting to understand many things.  Many things.

Cande runs right in the study where she and Sev try to figure out why after all this time Adelina is opening her mouth.  Cande tells Sev that Aldonza had stated in a threatening manner that she was back in Santa Lucia to take care of some matters that were pending.  Sev once again calls for them to present a united front now more than ever and cautions that they cannot underestimate the little tramp!  Cande looks terrified.

Over at the old Alcocer place Aldonza places a call to someone who is surprised to hear from her.  She asks, and they accept to help her with the place.  She’s willing to pay.  Aldonza busies herself outside the house and is up on a bench when Joaquin arrives.  They greet each other warmly.   He speaks of the help her father lent him long ago and the great respect and love he has for him for that.  Joaquin agrees wholeheartedly to help her get the place not only habitable but beautiful once again.  I have to admit I kept expecting some old biddie to be peaking around the corner when they were embracing, you know, fodder for the rumor mill.

Aldonza and Joaquin enter the house; it is all draped in dust covers, littered with dead leaves and festooned with cob webs.  He pledges the grand lady can be revived and gets right to work.

Back at Irma’s little store she learns that Mary came and left after getting into it with Lola.  Lola also tells Irma that there is no way Cristobal beat Lardo; Cris is a good person.  Irma listens and then wonders what she has done to deserve such bratty offspring.  We don’t know, Irma, but I’m enjoying this lard-free episode!

Ah!  Emanuel has returned to work.  Melesio advises him to let him know right away if he doesn’t feel well.  Emanuel promises to do so.  Mary shows up with her heart shaped box of chocolates and force feeds about four pieces to Emanuel and then lays a prolonged kiss on his cheek.  Melesio sees this and is about to rip Emanuel a new one but Sev interrupts with an errand for Melesio.

Aldonza and Joaquin continue their work.  Joaquin takes inventory of the jobs that need to be done and Aldonza bats at cobwebs.  Her skinny white pants need to be replaced with some coveralls or sweats but hey, at least she’s not wearing stilettos.  Joaquin has his list and prepares to leave.  He questions Aldonza’s desire to stay behind.  She has a lot to do, among other things, conquer her fears.  Joaquin doesn’t understand.  She convinces him she will be fine.  He leaves and terror immediately conquers her face and immediately infects my heart.  Girl, WHAT are you thinking?!

Ummmm.  Just what I need to cut the tension.  Some beef cake in cowboy hats.  Howdy pardners!  Cris and Emanuel take a load off in the stables and Emanuel dishes the latest on his padrinos:  they had a row and Humberto slept in his room last night!  It was all over Aldonza!  Cris has heard that mess and blows it off but he IS worried about Aldonza and wants to protect her but he doesn’t know how and he dare not get near her!   Okay girls, who’s with me?  I rewound this scene with this cutie pie saying he wants to protect Aldonza. Awwwww!  This noble expression of a desire to protect and defend the woman WE know he loves is just damned SEX-AY!  They’re stringing us along and I love it!  Anyway, Emanuel looks at him like he’s sprouted another head (get your mind out of the gutter) and asks what is he trying to do?   Emanuel thinks he’s obsessing over Aldonza.  I don’t know what it means but Emanuel calls Cris  “Carnalito.”   One of y’all with those good slang sites, please look that up.  It sounds cute!  Anyway, Cris convinces him to, you know, just swing by her house tonight, and make sure everything is ok.

We’re back with Aldonza now as she goes through the house and confronts devils (a flashback of the assault by Sev) and ghosts:  in her mother’s room she relives part of a conversation she had with Roberta as she acknowledges she has not been a good mother, but she is not a monster!  Roberta declares and defends her love for Aldonza.  Ah.  Good to see Roberta again in all her pitiful and fierce tenderness!  Aldonza retreats to a corner of the shrouded bed, sits in a fetal position and weeps.

Night has fallen and Melesio is still looking for Emanuel.  He won’t share why he wants him and simply relieves Cris of the beautiful Soletario.  Elsewhere this night Dominga greets Sev as he’s about to board his monster SUV.  He rudely dismisses Dominga’s question as to whether he is going to eat dinner.  Uh oh.  Where is he going?

Back at the Alcocer place, shadows are overtaking the lonely, neglected rooms.  Aldonza continues her tour to conquer fear, looking about apprehensively and taking baby steps.  Suddenly a headlight flashes outside and she turns and sees a giant black and white spotted RAT!  AAAAAARRRRGH!  She runs and there at the door is a man. . .my gosh. . . .it looks like Severiano!  She collapses to the floor and the man runs to her!  Oh!  It’s Renato!  He takes her in his arms as she cries and babbles.  He coos softly,   “I’m here, I’m here, it’s all right.”  She cries and gasps her relief.

Padre J., Captain of the Divine Justice League, has returned home but Aldonza has not.  He and Adelina fret over her being out at these hours.

They needn’t worry:  Renato continues to gently calm and hold Aldonza as Emanuel arrives.  He and Renato regard each other with some surprise, not animosity.  Emanuel tells her Joaquin told him she was alone.  He asks if she is okay.  She introduces him to Renato and tells him, yes, she is going to rent and live in the old place.  More warm, loving and protective embraces for Aldonza, this time from Emanuel She certainly can use these after having been the town punching bag since she returned to Santa Lucia!  He offers and insists that he also help her with the house.  Aldonza accepts and they seal the deal with another embrace.  Renato seems satisfied Emanuel is indeed a friend and not competition for him.

Aldonza calls Padre and Tia and eases their fears:  she is with Renato.  Talk turns to Padre’s conversation with Sev.  He confronted him on his being the father which he didn’t deny but he wouldn’t tell him where the child was.  Adelina is upset that he brought Sev into it.  Padre doesn’t back down and thinks it’s best Sev know that he’s looking into it and that the truth won’t always be hidden.    Adelina thinks that Aldonza will be the one hurt when the truth is revealed.  Padre is resolute:  Aldonza has a right to know she has a sister and he is further convinced that this sister has to be Lola.  Adelina argues that they have no right to expose a truth that Dominga and Melesio have worked so hard to conceal and how do they tell Lola that they are not her grandparents?  Adelina says they have no right and nothing justifies hurting so many innocent people!  Having the last word, she leaves the table and Padre looks to the heavens.

Finally Aldonza, Renato and Emanuel leave the Alcocer place.  Aldonza restates again that Emanuel is a beloved and lifelong friend.  Emanuel watches the two walk away into the night.

Well, I thought I’d have three for three:  no Prunes, no Lard and no Vale Nada but, ‘twas not meant to be.  There’s a brief scene where Vale defends Cris against the beat down charges that Mary describes.  Mary also recounts the attack on Emanuel by Lardo.

Aldonza and Renato are at a restaurant for dinner while back at the parsonage Padre and Adelina fret over Aldonza’s “mis planes”.

Humberto meets with Sev at the local cantina.  Humberto is rightly suspicious.  Sev is carrying out part two of the happy family plan.  For the good of their kids and their families he wants to leave aside the matter of El Santuario until after the wedding after which the two of them can sit down and discuss it calmly.  Humberto accepts but before he can drink on it Simoneta shows up.  Sev introduces her to Humberto after which she makes a point of squeezing by Sev to continue on her way into the cantina.  Humberto asks who she is with a raised eyebrow.  Someone who wants to do business with him but he doesn’t know if he’s going to deal with her not.  He has to first see what she has to offer.  Sev is not amused.

Aldonza explains to Renato she wants to return to the home of her childhood and adolescence to confront old memories, to liberate herself from some old bitterness and rancor and to clean her mother’s name as well.  She wants to be free from old demons and start life over again.  It’s been harder than she thought being back in the old house and that’s why she’s asked for Renato’s support.  He pledges that he is there for her.  Aldonza cautions him that before she tells him why she asked him to come she wants him to know she is facing a very powerful enemy.  Cue the sound effects of doom and. . .

Cut!

Okay guys, there ya go! Hope you find lots to discuss. Love Padre, Joaquin, Emanuel and Renato coming to lend hands, strong backs, shoulders and Divine Help to our Aldonza.

See y'all in the morning!

squee!! The recap is up and I'm hopped up on caffeine and translating activity. There is SO MUCH to discuss in this episode! It's a damn shame I didn't take notes.

Off to read the recap.

“. . . this baby (girl) does not exist.”

Hum is a hair splitting ass.

Fabulous, fabulous, Lila! What a treat to have this recap already on a Friday night in.

Carnal- It's a slang term for friend/bff/brother. Think flesh of my flesh. Closer than friends, like brothers. Carnalito makes it even more of a term of endearment.

I was getting all kinds of warm fuzzies from all the studs coming to Aldonza's aid this episode and wanting to help her: Padre, Joaquin, Cris, Emmanuel, and Renato. It was so good to see, especially in this episode where Al was confronting her fears and not winning the battle.

Sara- Couldn't have said it better. Yeah. The baby GIRL doesn't exist, because it was a BOY. Man, I hope Adelina slaps him but good when she eventually learns the truth.

"Mary harumphs out of the tiendita..."

I need to remember harumph can be a verb. I liked this description.

Wow! Thanks for the Luv, guys! I came to fix something and couldn't believe folk are reading it already! Yep, lots to discuss! Have at it!

"We don’t know, Irma, but I’m enjoying this lard-free episode!"

(I really have to stop commenting every thought. I'll never finish reading.)

Hum is a hair splitting ass.

Ha! Thanks for this, Sara!

Thanks for Carnalito Vivi! I kinda thought that's what it meant!

Y'all are the best! :D

Vivi-My inner feminist is really conflicted about the Hawt Hunks rescuing the Damsel in Distress. Such an outdated concept, but boy was is sweet and comforting to see.

I'm fine with it, because Aldonza is perfectly capable of doing things on her own and tapping her inner strength. And that's what she's been doing all these years. But we all need support and a shoulder to lean/cry on every now and then, and there's no shame in taking it...especially not when it's being offered by some very sweet, handsome men. :)

"She runs and there at the door is a man. . .my gosh. . . .it looks like Severiano! "

Jeez I'm bombarding the thread tonight. Sorry.

Anyhoo...last night when I saw the Avance I was like "It's Renato. C'mon! He's already said he's going back to Santa Lu. You can't psych me out!"

Then tonight I SWEAR I saw Sev, too!! They psyched me out! It really scared the bejeebies out of me!

I have to throw in with Vivi. This felt so right because she HAS been going it alone, or she, Roberta and Adelina back in the day. Especially after everybody was lining up like in the movie Airplane to slap or slug her, I want somebody to hold her and give her some lovin' cause it's going to be a long time before Cris does.

But

I must say I LOVED Cris asking that E-man (who coined that?) go over and check on her. Thus, you can add him and say 4 Caballeros and a Padre looking after Donnie!

Plus, being all alone, late at night, in a remote house, where you were raped last time you were in it, by an enemy who still hates you and is out to get you, just isn't smart. It's not being a strong independent woman. It's just being crazy.

"Padre J., Captain of the Divine Justice League"

Ok, this comment is just your fault. THIS IS AWESOME!!

Oh, it was Sev, Sara. I paused and it was definitely him. Nice touch. I think maybe we saw what she saw in her fear. Tricky!

"It's not being a strong independent woman. It's just being crazy."

Er. True.

Lila-I'm going to start using E-man, too. I'm tired of typing out his name.

Sara, you ARE stoked tonight, aren't you? I love it!

Um. Yeah. *hangshead* Normally coffee doesn't affect me, but I think the combination of the coffee and the exciting episode and writing the Amores con trampa post has gotten me wound up. I activated my brain. Looks like a long nigh. I better find a boring book to read. Your recap is good and I want to comment on every damn line. LOL!

Thank you, my Dear. Oh! You wrote the ACT post? I'll have to read it! I tried to go lighter with this recap and it paid off: I see a lot of folk are still up at this hour and will actually tuck into a recap if its up. Very gratifying!

Well. I'm going to turn in. Keep reacting if you like, girl, I'll join you in the morning. Getting applause from you is special with the slammin' recaps you turn out.

Night Night All!

Sleep tight!

Ok, did Hum's "raised eybrow" look like a metaphor for something else that might have risen? 'Cause he looked pretty damn interested in Simoneta to me. Maybe he wouldn't cheat with Aldonza, but Simoneta may be more his speed.

Super recap, Lila. This tn is moving so fast! I really like the characters and the plot, and especially how all the recappers are bringing everything together for us.

I was glad that Aldonza had some friends present who were physically capable of beating up Sev if it came to that. Hope they stick around for when he finds out what is going on.

Also, glad that Hum didn't tell Sev that the house and property were unavailable because he had rented it to Aldonza.

I don't know what Aldonza is thinking running all over the place alone and at night. She doesn't know that Sev is capable of murder, but she does know that he is a violent rapist. I would think that she would want to have some kind of personal protection available to ward him off.

Lila, I too thought that Aldonza's outfit wasn't the best for the cleaning chores that she knew she faced.

Sara, I also thought Hum was appreciating Simoneta's appearance.

David

Right on Lila but my mind was in the gutter.

"Girl, WHAT are you thinking?!"

Two things kept running through my head concurrently and of equal importance, why alone in the haunted mansion and why white pants.

Aldonza - no I didn't s**t my pants, I sat down in something

Cande - two sides of the same coin

Renato - there are strings attached

E-man - for 20 years not a woman looked my way and now they're jumping out of the stables

Adelina - who are you really protecting? No lie goes without consequence

Humberto - hell yeah, I'd hit that

Severiano - if ever I go down, it won't be alone

Cris - protection by proxy

PJ - The Exorcist

Lol the white pants, tofie!

David- thanks for confirming what I saw in Hum's eyes. I want what the repercussions would be if Hum and Simoneta got together. Then again she seems really stuck on Sev.

Now I still love this show but there are two little annoyances for me:

Simoneta coming to town was just weak. I can't remember who said it (Kat?), but I too would have liked there to have been something other than a booty call behind it. Though her obsession with him is like Roberta's so it's like he is being haunted by La Sombra del Pasado (*echoechoecho*)

Also, I love Alejandra Barros and she is doing an admirable job as Cande the villain. But I still feel like it's a stretch. It's probably because I am also watching her as Juli in QA. And while I know nothing about El Manantial, I do know that Daniela Romo played the role so those are really big shoes to fill.

Maybe Sever needs to find mistresses with less strong characters. You know, women who aren't all in you face, who don't stroll into catinas where they're the only woman, late at night, and don't give a damn. But perhaps he's not turned on by the quiet, obedient types.

Severiano is addicted to crazy. Roberta also just showed up.

Couple things beginning to bother me as well, Adelina. Her insistence in perpetuating a lie relating to a sibling to protect Aldonza and her memory of Roberta. Hell, everybody including Aldonza, knew Roberta was a live wire that put everything she touched in jeopardy. Simply because she saved some money is not cause for potential sainthood. If Adelina really wanted to protect her niece she would insist they leave that town, the larger hurt upon Aldonza would come from her proximity to Severiano not a phantom sibling.

The other is minor but we saw nothing but stiff arm from Aldonza relating to Renato but one call and he's there and she's acting like they're bff's.

Wondrous recap and great way to start a sunny, FINALLY, Saturday morning. You were rocking girl!

Like everyone, I almost giggled knowing full well that this misconception of the baby being Lola was going to keep going with these innuendos and reluctance of people to talk. But I sort of get where Hum is coming from right now. He knows full well what Sev is capable of, and should he let the secret out on E-Man, who would suffer more than the poor kid...well, he's a man now. I really hunky, cute....sorry, I digress.

Hem feels closer to E-Man than he does his own daughter. That's a father's protectiveness kicking in which I don't think anyone understands. But that man does have a anvil beginning to follow him. And really, what's so special about Simonetta that he would give her the "who's that"? Wonder if Sev would be mad, or see his interest as a way to get rid of the crazy mistress.

Aldonza was just not thinking staying in that house with nothing working, it's dark, she has half the town after her. But YEAH--the BodSquad (easier than listing all these guys) is arriving to her rescue. Personally as someone who had a lot of male friends and felt more comfortable with that, I love the fact she has these guys there for her and ready to pitch in. Doesn't show a weakness, shows they are smart enough to know she is not what the women paint her to be. Now will Bitch Queens be furious connected to the various and sundry guys, sure. They can get over it.
Happy, Happy to get Renato back on our screens too. Our cup is running over with the fine young men in this TN. And none are the overly obnoxious body-builder types. Yipppeee!

For the first time I wanted to yank Lola's neck ribbon. Girl, do NOT resort to the high school games with Mary. So no thought how E-Man would feel about it what she implied he did, or how it makes him look? So not cool. I expected better from her.

Not sure what Simoneta is up to? Why now is she surfacing? And Padre J for the win, but boy, he's another one treading on thin ice. I worry for him.

Daisynjay

I don't think Adelina is trying to make Roberta out to be a saint, but revealing the maybe dead baby story will open up a whole Pandora's box that leads to the affair with Sever and Ray's death. And bringing Sever into it will bring down a whole crap storm that I don't think they're ready to handle. Adelina has tried to convince Al to leave, but as Al has pointed out, she's an adult and they can't make her leave. She also refuses to tell them what exactly her mis planes are.

There are so many things I love about your comment daisynjay.

Is Hem a typo? Cause I like it. Hum Hem and Haw. Cause Hum just hems and haws.

Also loved The Bod Squad and that you mentioned that they WEREN'T the body builder types. That makes them even MORE attractive in my book. Pablo Lyle belongs in that category too.

Dare I say it, I'd be just as happy if Aldonza ended up with Renato!

Good points Vivi. It is just dangerous to have Sev involved.

Lila, beautifully crafted. Simply outstanding.

I've just completed what will likely be my most difficult task today: paring down my list of favorites which included" "Adelina leaves, defeated and a lie lives all over Humberto’s face", "I have to admit I kept expecting some old biddie to be peaking around the corner when they were embracing, you know, fodder for the rumor mill" and "Good to see Roberta again in all her pitiful and fierce tenderness!". Wow!!!

"terror immediately conquers her face and immediately infects my heart. Girl, WHAT are you thinking?!" - yes, what on earth?? That scene was perfectly executed - Michelle/Aldonza's palpable fear evident. Now, I would swear that it actually WAS Sev in the door who inexplicably morphed into Renato. Do you think it could actually have been shot that way or was it just the expectation that he was going to show up? My heart was pounding.

It's wrong for so many obvious reasons, but I have a bit of a crush on the Padre. A man of action, words and a fearless countenance. I love that he put Cande in her place as well and that for once, she is truly afraid. As she should be.

The lie of the child's gender will make it very difficult to ferret out the truth. daisy, I think you noted an important point - Humberto may have had E's interests at heart although he looked very guilty at continuing the lie.

Another confession? I am liking Renato more and more. I like his quiet, supportive presence and am eager to see how his relationship with Aldonza progresses.

Sara and David, I felt the same way you both did about Humberto's reaction to Simoneta - intrigued and interested. I also think he likely knew exactly what her "business" was with Sev.

Lila, thank you for the stellar, stellar recap.

Diana

LOL - Sara. That was a typo on Hum, bet maybe really a Freudian slip? He's Hem and Pru is Haw.

And can I say, I would be happy to see Aldonza with Renato too. I'm hoping they don't start to paint him in the negative as this story progresses. I could see him eventually with Mary, if she would get her act together and stop being a whiney two year old. Irma wonders why her kids are losers? Seems they were coddled a lot and frankly, maybe kicking them out of the house and forcing them to earn their own living, pay rent, buy groceries, wouldn't be a half bad idea. Both Mary and Lardo seem stuck in bratty high school mode.

Daisynjay

"Pru is Haw."

Ha!

Completely agree about Mary and Lardo! I find it all the more annoying because the actress playing Mary is too old. But I might just be hatin' cause I could never come close to passing for a 20 something.

Good Morning/Afternoon Patio Peeps!

Thank you David! Agree with you and Sara about Hum's "raised eyebrow." Hum definitely WAS interested! David, I was SO tense until Renato showed up!

Hey, tofie! Girl, them white pants were killing me! Why not at least skinny jeans! LOVE Aldonza's and PJ's lines!

Vivi re Sev's penchant for strong-minded mistresses, it's all part of the sexual schtick. He get's pissed at their sassisness, he "has" to slap them around for it and, well, you know the rest! Except I'm afraid Simoneta may end up horizontal in a way she didn't count on!

Hi all.I slept in this morning. Then, I had the pleasure of reading this terrific recap with my breakfast. Thanks so much, Lila.

I started reading the comments, but I wanted to comment that I am happy about the army assembling around AL. After what she has been through..the rape, the stonethrowing, the slapping, the gossip, name calling, and intimidation, girl needs some support and protection . Yay. I like a hero or heroes riding in on white horses . Everyone needs to be rescued sometimes...I know I have rescued and been rescued. AL needs some bodyguards....and they might as well be hottie hunks.

I love Padre Jerry. Hebisbnit afraid of Sev and is like a dfog with a bone. He makes me think of Colombo in his relentless search for the truth. Sev has met his match in the padre.

I am confused. I thought that it was Cris standing in the sombra as AL walked away from the house with Renato. Was it Emm? Well, back to finish reading the comments, doing laundry and dishes, putting out the Easter decorations, and reading the newspaper. It is cold here, but at least the sun is going in and out.

Tofie at 9:48 Excellent points!

Thank you, Daisy!

Hem feels closer to E-Man than he does his own daughter. That's a father's protectiveness kicking in which I don't think anyone understands. You know, I have to agree with this. I was wondering why Hum never defended E-man against the barbs and bullshit of Pru and Vale but then HE puts up with himself! He does love E-man and that is reassuring.

BodSquad! I like that -- BodSquad and GodSquad!

Oh, Diana, thank you so much!

YES, I know that was Sev in the doorway! I paused and looked at it a long time! The effect was CHILLING! Very well done and Michelle transmitted the terror perfectly!

Go ahead, crush on Padre! I LOVE him and he needs more than one table, maybe a section of the patio and how's about a table for Renato! His comforting and protecting embrace and reassurances to Aldonza were more than friendship. Yeah. He's flamin' cute! HOT, even!

Remember a few episodes back when E-man told Cris he might be interested in Aldonza as more than a friend? As a matter of fact, it was last Friday cause I remember recapping it. Anyway, the way E-man looked after Aldonza as she and Renato walked away, anyone think he was saying goodbye to that possibility, especially in light of Cris asking him to watch over her for him?

I DON'T want Mary or Mari with my E-man but I want Lola to grow up some. Hmmm. I'm sure E-man can make a woman out of her but he's got to live to do so. Melesio wants to do some reconstructive surgery on his ass!

Hi, Susanlynn and thank you!

OMG! Was that Cris in the shadows? I'll have to go back and look! I just wrote another comment about Eman looking at Aldonza and Renato walking away! Let me look and I'll get back to y'all!

Lila---Thank you for your hard work in getting this to us bright and early on Saturday morning. It was a great read all the way.

A great read? Yes, for sure and lines like these prove it.----Operation Happy Family begins at the Mendoza breakfast table. Yeah right---happy times around that table. LOL

I'm enjoying this Lard free episode.

Padre J. Captain of the Divine Justice League.

Good to see Roberta again in her pitiful and fierce tenderness. I really liked seeing Roberta again and your caption was perfect.

I didn't think of it until I read the comments. I had been thinking that Aldonza was pretty much alone save for Adelina and the padre but now I realize that she has the Bod Squad with her. Five against Sev isn't bad. I'll take those odds. Sev you disciple of satan, you're going down and you can take your Cande with you. She's not sweet anyway. How did she ever get the name Cande? Vinegar would be more like it. She
doesn't have a sweet Cande/y bone in her.

Tofie as always your list is great
PJ---E-man and Renato were all three great for me.

Daisynjay---I'm glad you said it.
Overly obnoxious body-builder types. I agree 1000% You don't have to "overdue" the body building to look good.

White pants to clean a very dirty house? Ok, the girl's not perfect
just 99.9% the gringo says.

Getting serious. Aldonza is in the house alone at night. Car lights flash and we see a man in the doorway. I damn near jumped out of my skin. Satan Sever???
Does lightening strike twice to the same person? Probably not but-----I know that Aldonza is the shows female lead and so she won't die but I don't want to see her hurt again, She has suffered enough already. Aldonza please take one or more members of the Bod Squad with you from now on. No more going out alone punto.
the gringo

Gringo! Good afternoon, Brother! You are welcome! Man, didn't they play us last night with that scene in the spooky Aldonza place?! Her face right after Joaquin left was just terrifying to behold -- she was scared s**tless! I am so grateful they let us end the week with Aldonza getting some protection and TLC!

The revelation of a love child should be the least of worries for Adelina. How can you piss Severiano off any more than Aldonza showing up and turning the head of Cris and follow that up with moving back into the house with the intent of owning it again. That's the girl that kicked the hornets nest and Adelina said hardly a word.

I just went back to see who was standing in the shadows and this bit tickled me. On hulu+ the caption as Aldonza was coming down the stairs just before she saw the rat read:

RATA: [CHILLA]
ALDONZA: [GRITA]

What does that mean, the rat was just chillin' and Aldonza screamed? Cracked me up!

Okay. So I went back and looked and it IS E-man. He said goodnight to Donnie and Renato and then exited the scene to our right. As Donnie and Renato walked away from the house she was telling him that she and E-man were lifelong friends. Renato remarked that it seemed that E-man didn't like him. Donnie said no, it's just that all the men around these parts are territorial and especially wary of strangers but once he gets to know him, he'll like him just fine.

So yep. It was E-man fulfilling his charge as Cris's friend, but more importantly as Aldonza's. Thanks, Susanlynn!

Chillar is to screech, shriek or squeal. I think it's hilarious that they included the rat's "line", but as 5ft would say... He probably has a great agent. I wonder if that was "Plan B" from TSTSNBN.

okay, I know "chilla" must mean squeaking. Still funny.

Yes. Hilarious! Thanks for sharing that.

Thanks, Sara. We posted at the same time!

I enjoyed watching this last bit again. Amen on the warm fuzzies seeing Aldona get some back up!

I cannot wait for one of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Vile, Prude, Candy, and Randy) to ride up ready to intimidate and find Aldonza Knight and The Pips.

Gracias, Carnalita! It was a delight to start off my Saturday with this recap.

"Adelina leaves, defeated and a lie lives all over Humberto’s face." The rat! Uh, apologies to the actual hardworking Televisa rats (nice to see one of y'all employed again).

I love how Padre J is such a good judge of character...not believing Humberto, knowing that Severiano isn't the kind of sentimental guy to want to hold on to his dead hija just to bury her himself, realizing that Cande is Sev's accomplice. Divine Justice League, indeed!

I'm intrigued by Aldonza's "planes". If I remember correctly, Renato was getting, or got, his degree in law. So we have an agronomist, a lawyer, a ranch foreman, and a horse whisperer...I suspect her plan has something to do with reviving the hacienda, but I'm most curious about where Renato comes in. I can't wait to see the house all fixed up again. And if the menfolk happen to need some shirtless painting time to make that happen, there are plenty of volunteers in SL and on the patio that would be more than happy to help them wash up after. Just saying.

I had the thought, when Humberto was checking out Simoneta, that he was definitely interested. And I thought that Sev's calculating look means he plans to use Simoneta to control Humberto. He'd definitely ask...er, order?...her to get into Humberto's pants and report back to him, but would she do it? The cliche would be that she does it, but falls for Humberto and ends up helping him bring Sev down. She probably knows her share of secrets.

Sara...I especially get a chuckle out of the way the actress playing Mary intentionally and emphatically swings that ponytail as she jauntily pivotsc and bounces on her way. I guess this is supposed to make us believe that she is Gidget. ...or is she Rizzo in Grease ?

Lila - thank you for the recap. I was giggling all through it and just love the BodSquad!

" ... to confront old memories, to liberate herself from some old bitterness and rancor and to clean her mother’s name as well,"
Fine with me, Aldonza, but carry a gun with you, please, and don't go to that house alone where there probably is no phone and a vengeful hateful rapist who would not think twice about a repeat attack!

I half expected (pun intended) to see Miss Havisham in one of those chairs.

susanlynn-It's so nice to know that I'm not the only one who had noticed that ponytail swinging and near skipping! And kudos on "Aldonza Knight and the Pips"

Oh Kat- I sure hope the writers take your suggestion. That house needs a good shirtless painting!

I can see where having a lawyer may be a good thing if you are trying to revive a hacienda. Surely there will be contracts to be drawn up or something. Do lawyers have to wear shirts to draw up contracts?

doris-Aldonza does not need to be walking around alone!

Sara, I think I'm ok with the guys coming to Aldonza's aid because so far it seems to be about her having a plan and being in charge, and them helping out. If somebody tries to take over, I'll kick 'em in the shins.

Did anyone else have the thought, when Joaquin had his arm around Aldonza, that he's looking pretty well-preserved for a guy who's supposed to be twentyish or more years older than her?

tofie, love the list! Yes, Emmanuel needs to grab that stick he got hit with and start fending them off. I don't know whether to scold him or scold Lola and Mari...screw it, everybody's getting a scolding!

Daisynjay...BodSquad is a great name!

Is it possible that Simoneta is there because of what she told Sev back in San Miguel? That she used to know someone who worked at Las Animas and she really wanted to see it...which, if she's actually Lola's mother, could mean that she's not just there for a booty call, but also to find her daughter? If she is, she's being pretty subtle, not asking a bunch of intrusive questions or sneaking into the kitchens, which a total stranger wouldn't do.

Doris..at the very least, AL should be wearing a crossbody bag with pepper spray in it.

Diva..yes, the Pips definitely have some skilz that will come in handy for implementing Al's plans and protecting her.

Sara..re Lawyers wearing shirts. I always insist that mine does.

..about Al's white leggings...not a good choice for cleaning out a house that has been abandoned for several years, but at least she was not wearing a short, tight skirt. Girl needs some jeans, tees, and sneakers....oh......in other words...what I am usually wearing.

"Cross body purse with pepper spray."

You are on FIRE today Susanlynn! I have to ask though...does your lawyer look like Renato?

I think I'm ok with the guys coming to Aldonza's aid because so far it seems to be about her having a plan and being in charge, and them helping out. If somebody tries to take over, I'll kick 'em in the shins."

Excellent point, Kat. The guys seem to respect her and her "mis planes" as well. The are protective, but don't treat her like a dummy or delicate flower either.

So funny Susanlynn, you mention Colombo, we're on the same wavelength, I almost made that my posting for PJ this morning.

"...at least she was not wearing a short, tight skirt"

You know what I just realized? I think Aldonza is in pants more than she is in dresses! AND I LOVE IT!! (Being more of the pants type myself.)

Those guys aren't there solely their out of the goodness of their heart. Joaquin feels a loyalty to Ray and I betcha not over Adelina, Renato was looking for a reason to leave Mexico and pursue her and expects at some point an opportunity to be more than a buddy, Emmanuel has been a childhood friend of both Cris and Aldonza, has a soft spot for Roberta and already told Cris he has changed his ideal woman to someone like Aldonza and you got Cris, that loves the girl pure and simple. I expect it of PJ, he is her uncle and she may be his only living relative.

What I am dreading is when Cris finds out what his daddy done and why and blames himself for it.

Interesting, tofie. Why do you think Cris would blame himself?

And a little OT-I forgot to tell you yesterday how much I liked your Buddhist monk story.

Omigosh...the rat had a line?! Definitely has a good agent. And getting paid more for that than to be a non-speaking extra :D

We completely lost captions with our new cable box...or rather, there must be some way to get them, but I haven't found the right combination of settings to make them show up again.

susanlynn, "The Four Horsemen vs. Aldonza Knight and The Pips"...DANCE OFF!

Sara, "Do lawyers have to wear shirts to draw up contracts?" Well, Renato doesn't have to when there's no a/c and it's the middle of the summer. Yes, I'm a dirty old woman :p

tofie, you loveable cynic, you...don't forget there's someone she offered to pay, but I can't tell if that was Joaquin or Renato, from the one-sided phone conversation. Geez, if Cris got whacked for asking of Sev burned down Roberta's melons, I wonder what he'll get for asking of Sev raped Aldonza.

Aldonza Knight and The Pips.

Ha! Susanlynn! That's great!

DIVA! How'd your show go? Thank you! Didn't expect to see you so early and you called me Carnalita! I could so see Sev using Simonetta but would Hum bite? I guess it makes more sense than him outright killing her. Seems like she's a long term character.

Sara, eh...nooo....my lawyer does not look like Renato. He went to high school with hub and me , and I have known him longer than I know hub. He was also hub's neighbor , and the story is that hub gave him his first bloody nose . We also all went to the same church, and his father was my school bus driver. ...so he is mi carnalito. He is goofy and still makes crank phone calls to me occasionally. The only time I saw him with his shirt off was when he wrestled. ...that was enough.

The show went great. The audience was small, but enthusiastic. And then I got to sleep in and I have no promoting duties for the day, so I can chill and recharge for tonight. It's good when everything clicks, and for me it's having an audience that gives that last little bit where everything falls into place.

I'm glad things went well AND that you can rest up for tonight!

It must be hard during rehearsals to just be doing it for the director. I can imagine that having an audience reaction is VERY helpful.

Hi, Doris! Thank you, my Dear but Daisynjay gets credit for "BodSquad" -- brilliant!

Oh yes, Diva, we NEED some shirtless painting or clearing of the gardens, shed building or something! Yah, baby!

I was impressed by how available Joaquin was to work for Aldonza. Looks like he arrived shortly after her call. Does he have a job elsewhere? Or was that a beanie hat moment?

Oh. Shirtless shed building....

Diva/Kat/5ft (gosh you're like a character on a TN lol)- I thought you would get a kick out of the Televisa rat finally getting a line.

Yep, I was under the impression Joaquin was gonna get paid and who I thought she spoke with on the phone. They also had a conversation and he mentioned he could/should have his own business but I didn't pay close attention. If Renato does any lawyering for her and doesn't accept payment he'll need something, perhaps room and board.

Wonder if Aldonza is gonna work, cannot fathom her funds unlimited, to remodel a home ain't cheap.

Sara, that particular monk stands out for me, because he dedicated himself later in life (late 30's but not unusual and sometimes men and women in their 60's after marriage, children & careers) and had by his own admission done it all. He was a steward for Air France, traveled the globe, spoke multiple languages fluently, yet literally lived in a tree in his home country in southeast asia.

So my next question for you susanlynn - if your lawyer did look like Renato would you still insist he wear a shirt?

I'm just joking with you. You don't have to answer that.

That monk sounds so cool, tofie!

Ah, how I would love to have the ability to speak multiple languages fluently bestowed upon me like a miracle : to be a spontaneous polyglot!

Doris, I went back and watched the scene with Joaquin just before he left for the evening. Aldonza was thanking him but saying she didn't want to impose on his time. He told her not to worry that when it suits him, he's self employed and he knows how to organize his time very well.

And yes, Diva, he does look very well preserved for someone at least 20 years older than Donnie. He is thus allowed to take his shirt off as well!

This is one of the only times where I've wanted the good girl to find a benefactor with lots of money and no fear! While I love Padre J for being a hard ass, he is limited in what he can do, it's not like he can go around beating people up-as much as I'd like to see that!

And I very much admire Joaquin, yes, he still has a thing for Adelina, but I think he has sincere affection for Aldonza because he truly loved/respected her dad, so much so that he named his child after him.

How much money does Aldonza have, I wonder. She's been vague about it, but I think she's smart enough that she wouldn't have spent ALL of it on a year's rent--she would know that rent isn't going to be her only living expense. Then she offered to pay Joaquin, which I don't think she could do unless she knew she had the money for it. And she made that remark about "not quite enough to retire on."

Eli- yes! The Bod Squad and the Divine Justice League are great but right now the man with the POWER is Sev. Aldonza needs someone powerful in her corner.

And I'm just as curious about the money, Kat.

Maybe she is thinking of it as start up funds and she plans to have the melon patch operational and profitable very soon.

It's been suggested that the money would have allowed Adelina and Aldonza to live an okay life style because remember they still have the Mexico apartment. I hope that before this is over we get to see Padre J go to town on Severiano.

Can we make it a Lucha Libre fight? I'd watch that.

Oh, who am I kidding...I'm going to watch it either way.

Sara..the answer is no. If my lawyer looked like Renato , I would probably insist that he go shirtless. Can you do that ? Is that legal ?..like....show me your habeas corpus ?

Thanks for the reminder about the apartment, Eli! She could sublet that sucker!

You know...Roberta was probably thinking Aldonza would stay in the DF. So the sum she left was comfy, but would it go further in Santa Lu?

Ay susanlynn. I scared my cats again when I laughed at your comment.

".. Show me your habeas corpus. "

Bwahahahaha Susanlyn, lolz!

Diva-duuuuude can you imagine Sev and Padre J in those little outfits with the masks?

Padre's mask would have a cross.

It would change colors based on the Liturgical time of year.

Sara, I lalalallove it!

I can so picture it. Vertical part of the cross (is there an official name for it?) from middle of forehead to chin. Horizontal across the eyes.

And his name would be El Justiciero Divino...ahhhhhhh, divino :p

Talk me down patio peeps:

http://luchalibreusa.com/llusa-unveils-official-app-for-iphone/

Sara.do iiiiiiiiiit doooooooooo ittttttttt

Aw man. I have an android...

And now I totally want to watch this documentary:

http://www.talesofmaskedmen.com/

And organize a Caray culture night and have us all coordinate our clocks and "watch" it together with a hashtag or Google hangout...

Let me try the link again.

http://www.talesofmaskedmen.com/

Sara-I have the iphone and hate it, I wish I would have waited for the Samsung :/

I love my Samsung but my daughter loves her iPhone.

I hear that the new Galaxy is sick!

I can't believe I've forgotten to say this, but I really liked the scene where Aldonza remembered her mother and we got to see Roberta again. I hope Roberta's presence remains for the entire TN.

And I have do admire Padre. He knows Roberta cheated on his brother and he still doesn't badmouth her. (that's been said already, hasn't it?)

I've got the Galaxy s4, but you can bet when it's time for my upgrade I'll get the latest!

I love captain of the divine justice league that is so funny and so cool and I'm glad he won't back down from sev I think he is slimy and I wouldn't be at all sad if he were killed off, but I'd miss aldonzo getting the guts to stand up to the one armed bastard. when is his son going to find out he raped her.

Anon507- I'm looking forward to Sev's demise too, but I definitely want Aldonza to get the chance to face the bastard.

Can I say that the fact the mouse got a line on the translation recap just tickled me beyond all measure. We use to joke about the rat union on a couple former TN's ( and swear they wrote a few shows too), but wow, I speaking credit. Glad to see one of those little varmints getting a good role.

By the way, Kat congrats on the show. Glad all went well. I know my son has been in a couple summer operas with local companies where the audience was small, but they were appreciative and enjoyed it. He said sometimes it's better than more people who are moving around a lot, leaving seats or bringing crying kids. Yes, that happened at one. I was like...an opera? You brought a toddler?

I also love your idea for the shirtless painting scene. I could get behind that..BIG time. As for the guys, do we know Joaquin has to be that much older than Aldonza? Maybe Adelina had a crush on a younger guy. His shrew of a wife doesn't look that old either.

Not bad having Renato around with a law degree. With the crap that Sev has been pulling, might be helpful to have someone who knows their way around the law as all the truths unravel and people need to get their due. The man may be fairly busy in that town if he plans to hang out his shingle.

Daisynjay

Yeah, Lila- I have to say that you sharing that bit about the rat getting a line just made my day. I keep thinking about it and giggling.

Uhm, Adelina doesn't look that old either, and she was a young woman 20+ years ago too. She was not the one who had a crush on Joaquin. Other way around. Back then her heart belonged to Ray, and I think it still does.

I almost wonder if Adelina's hair style is meant to make her look a little older. She seems quite young to me.

If I ever figure out how to make captions work on my tv, I might just have to turn them on to see the gem of installations Sara pointed out the other day, and stuff like the rat lines. That is so hilarious! *chillar¡*

Mis-translations, not installations. Tablet comes up with some gems too.

Just checked. Lisset is younger than I am. Haha!

I have sorta been for Renato since the beginning. Chris is WAY to easily manipulated to be a good choice for Aldonza. She needs a strong man for her protector/lover/best friend. Lola also needs a strong man, and I think once E-man gets his head together, he is perfect for her. And, you gotta love good old Pru, but she needs to man/woman up and get rid of Hum.

Now that I have paired everyone up, (except for Pru) I will continue to check the comments. Great recap Lila, thanks so much. Great rest of the week-end all. Got to think about what to feed the family for dinner.AA

AA???

AA

Oh, y'all kill me with your auto-correct-mind-of-its-own devices!

Thank you, emeraldrose! Who was that that said Pru was going to get dark. I agree. It was all fun and games til Aldonza almost got an eye put out! Can't stand the heffa now!

emeralrose- the first step is admitting you have a problem...but don't you mean PA (Patios Anonymous) or TNA (Telenoveler@s Anonymous)?

Just kidding.

Lila I always love the way Heffa sounds.

I once had a colleague that did not get along with our boss and when we discussed her in Spanish I always thought that when she said JEFA she was really thinking HEFFA.

Sara....I think I do need PA.....the. First thing after coffee is grab the IPad and check out Caray Caray. So happy when the recap is up.

Diva sending you positve thoughts tonight. Is there another expression other than " break a leg?" Wish I was there to see you in the play.

Hee hee! And, for me, "heffa" has a subtle difference in connotation than "heifer"; it has more of an edge. In a pinch, "cow" works just fine, too!

:D

Oh, yes! To Diva!

((((((((((((LS Patio))))))))))))

emeraldrose I think we are two PAs in a pod because your morning sounds identical to mine and you see how I reacted Friday when the recap was up.

BREAK HEARTS DIVA!

If Renato was my lawyer I would want him shirtless and a tattoo that says "res ipsa loquitor."
:-)

I had to look that up. Look at doris droppin' the Latin all up in here.

It's getting intellectual out on the patio!

Caray is da bomb!

Sara -MANY years ago there was an attorney in town who had that as the vanity plate on his Porsche. LOL

How do you say "he sounds like a jerk" in Latin?

LOL!!!

I studied Latin in high school for two years. I remember nothing except the lyrics to ''Adeste Fidelis'' and how to conjugate ''love.'' Amo..amas..amant..etc. I was not very good at translating Latin. I moved on to French..also not very good at the speaking/listening part.

et sonat ad modum irrumator?

Source: Google Translate

:D

Susanlynn......I too studied two years of Latin and the only thing I can conjugate is love as well. Did learn to pronounce "advertisement" and "May ree" (Mary) to the good sisters satisfaction. Four years of a girls school and not much stuck. At least college was more stimulating.

Sara we ARE two PA's in a pod. I am glad I have you company for the early morning visits to the patio.

emeraldrose..I just remembered "vini, vidi, Vici"...or something like that " I came; I saw ; I conquered"- Julius Ceasar

Susanlynn... I remember it as vini, vidi, visa. I came, I saw, I bought. Just had to pun that.

I am getting silly, time to get ready for bed.

I am so jealous of all of you Latin scholars! My daughter started out as a classics major (but ended up in anthropology like her grandfather) and took Latin, ancient Greek and a semester of modern Greek.

Anyhooo. I always wanted to learn Latin. I really should try to teach myself but that requires discipline and an attention span.

I'm actually reading a book now about the history of Latin.

Oh and here's a thought I had this morning. I'm hoping Eli or Vivi can shed some light since they recall details so well.

E-man seems way too nice to be Sev's (I say this because TNs tend to subscribe to the nature side of nature/nurture argument.)

Could he indeed be Ray's and Roberta was just passing him off as Sev's?

Does anyone recall if there were any details or hints that confirmed the paternity?

Cris is nice too and has a rotten father AND mother. I don't think DNA has anything to do with it, in this tn. :) However, back when Ray was alive we were given the impression that Roberta had been cold to him in the bedroom since Al's birth, and she seemed pretty damn sure that the baby was Sever's.

I sort of remember a scene where Roberta was cold to Ray.

Interesting how we keep wanting the nice guys to NOT belong to Sev. Lol.

I hope Emmanuel and Lola actually get a chance to talk soon so he can clarify to her what he feels about her. Before that kiss, I don't think he ever saw her that way. And it seems he's been relatively invisible to everyone until recently. He's still invisible at home, or tries to make himself invisible so that he's not hurled insults by Val or Pru. But now all of a sudden, two girls are after him. I imagine that's pretty exciting for a young man, and one who has never been the center of anybody's attention before in his whole life. I wouldn't be surprised if he kind of sort of strings both Mary and Lola along. Not maliciously, but just enjoying the moment a bit.

I'm probably going to melon shaped nerfazos thrown at me, but right now I cannot board the E-man/Lola ship. I just don't see it.

Lola definitely does, but E-man has already told Cris that he's not sure.

Like I said before, it has a big Gael-Paloma vibe to me.

LOL! No nerfazos. Emmanuel is definitely not feeling it, yet. I just ask that you not compare Lola to that whiney, sniveling, doormat Paloma.

Lol. I wasn't thinkung that.

It's just that even after Gael gave up on Elisa (was that her name?) I still felt like he carried a torch for her. I hope Alex Sirvent does a better job of convincing me he his team Lola all the way because Mark Tacher never convinced me he loved Paloma.

Emeraldrose...good one.

interesting discussion here this morning. I like the fact that this tn is keeping us guessing about who's the daddy.

Did we ever see Roberta happy? All I can remember is a fiercely unhappy, struggling, angry person, Ray was smiling and gentle and forgiving despite her rejection. Maybe he managed to get a little loving when Rob was tipsy. Mean certainly reminds me of Ray with his Sunny disposition.

Mean?????...that was supposed to be ''E-man''

I really hope that at some point we get a little more of the back story. I was pleased when they explained why Sev felt like El santuario was his. Now I'm hoping we get more as to why Cande hates them. Sev's hatred pre-dated his marriage to Cande doesn't it?

Lol susanlynn! I figured it out! I'm starting to get pretty good at figuring out autocorrects based on letters and context.

Emmanuel and Ray certainly have very similar personalities (though this doesn't mean they are related). Both sweet, quiet, hard working guys, who keep their heads down and keep pushing through. Ray had a breaking point-- seeing his wife rolling in the hay with another man. I wonder what Emmanuel's breaking point will be?

I doesn't seem to me that Cande's hatred really grew until she found out that Roberta was Sev's pregnant mistress. Up till then, she viewed her with the same jealous snobiness as all the other bitches I town, who all seemed afraid that Roberta's bold sexiness would lure their husbands away.

I must say i love this storyline, its full of suprises and both the writing and acting is masterful. The only two characters i cannot stand is Lardo because he is amazing at being annoying as hell. I must say i am cheating ahead because i just cant stop watching it! I guess by the time of a few weeks i will be on episode 100:)
If this novela does it right it could become one of the best novelas ever :D

I wonder how much will our characters last before the stressfull landscape itself transforms into scorching HellFire? I also laughed at Ghost Sev,he is so threatening even when he is not even actually there, he makes a fine Diablo and Padre J would make a fine Punisher!

Well that's true, but am I incorrect in thinking the Cande's history with Alcocers started before Roberta?

Yeah. That picture she dropped. Who was in it again?

Our comments crossed. That last one was for Vivi. Lol.

Oh yeah and i also cannot stand Marie yet, she is just some jealus HS type twat and is not anything that special yet. Hopefully she gets her eyes in Renato so this "Give me Manuel" nonsense ends once and por todas!

What is "Ghost Sev" since you are so far ahead, I'm afraid to ask?

Really hope it's not a spoiler.

It feels like it. I don't know, with all due respect and openness to all who wish to frequent the patio, if I were that far ahead I think I would lurk out of respect for people who want each episode to be fresh, or at least be very careful with my comments!

:/

"Well that's true, but am I incorrect in thinking the Cande's history with Alcocers started before Roberta?

Yeah. That picture she dropped. Who was in it again? "

Raymundo was in it, with Cande, Sev, and PadreJ.

I am holding out, and hoping against hope, that Cris doesn't carry Sev's DNA. I think Cande and PadreJ did the deed before he became a pries6t, which would have had to have happened oh, maybe a month before Cris was baptized? WHAT am I thinking? the math does not really match up. I just DO. NOT. WANT. Cris to be Sev's son.

Adelina's hair looks like it came straight from Valley of the Dolls, Santa Lucia chapter. Very 1960s and I have severe flashbacks to that era, every time Ade is on screen.

"...Valley of the Dolls, Santa Lucia chapter."

That's it! And like you said very 1960s. I wish they could have given he a slightly more modern 'do.

"Ghost Sev " was that mirage that appeared in this episode when Aldie had a flashback seizure in her house and mistook Renato for Sev. Ya know ,the Giant scary RAT!

Ok, scared me for a minute. Knowing you're so far ahead made me afraid you let something slip.

Actually i am only a few 4 episodes ahead but i only comment once in a while here so have no worries ! I do remember i watched this episode though.

Cande definitely has history with the Alcocers. It's no secret they grew up together and she was friends with Ray and Jero growing up. It also seems she had a thing for one of them. But she didn't show this seething, pathological hatred for all things Alcocer until she found out Roberta was Sever's mistress.

Great job Lila, and Big thank yous to all the recappers. We have left Direct TV and are watching on Hulu and we are a day behind, so I haven't been commenting, but it's great to have the recaps and the patio peeps. Mr. LN will buy drinks for those at the Renato table.

I am speculating that Renato's lawyering will come into play regarding the lease on the property. Perhaps Humberto's anvil is closer than we think. Seeing as he is newly separated he may have changed his will. Perhaps E-man is included as an heir. I can see an argument over who inherits the property, E-man or Val or Pru or some combination. There could be a squabble between co-heirs about trying to break the lease. Anyway, I'm sure they will put Renato's skills to good use.

I agree that Humberto is interested in Simonetta. He is newly separated. She is age appropriate and new in town. That is all it takes.

I believe that E-Man and Chris are both Sev's sons. I don't think Candela has it in her to surrender to her desires and have sex outside of proper channels. And as for E-man, in addition to Roberta's statements, E-man and Sev share the horse thing. Chris didn't seem to inherit that.

Yeah i hope Cande has some other reasons of hatred other than Rob . I would like her redeemed since she turned cold only because of her husband and is blinded by pointless hatred and pettiness,we know she's a biatch to a high degree but sometimes you gotta feel bad for her cause she already experienced Hell for almost 18-20 years and yet she has to unsuccesfully keep Sev and Cris on a leash to prevent further pain and disgrace to their reputation ,i want to be her Lapdog so she could keep my "needs" in check !

An all time best novela? Well yes,
it is sure shaping up that way. There are a few from the past that I will never forget although my memory tends to dim a little as I concentrate on the here and now but still, the great ones really never go away and this one will surely be one of them.

This one so far has it all. A great cast with a special although brief appearance by Susana Gonzalez, a great young cast as well as a great older cast, a fantastic story of love and hate coupled with family struggles. There are hidden identities, a super fabulous priest that will not be pushed around by evil aka the dark side.
A beautiful waterfall that seems like a godsend, almost to good to be true and yes even the Televisa rat or one of them gets to make an appearance and even has his own lines. Now how, I ask, can this not go down in novela history as a top ten winner?

You guys are cracking me up---shirtless painters to fix up the old Alcocer hacienda and possibly a shirtless lawyer? Please, let's not go too far with this but if you/we must, why not have a bikini party down at the swimming hole? I mean if we are pushing for shirtless painters, well???

I'm in the dark about Joaquin. Was he engaged to Adelina at one time? If so why did he marry that cold woman?

Diva---I would have bought a ticket if I had been there.
You cracked me up with El Justiciero Divino for padre J.

I don't know what lies ahead but something just tells me that Aldonza at some point will need the services of her friend lawyer
Renato. I just know that a lot of trouble and shady business is waiting to unfold in front of us.

CAN'T WAIT TILL MONDAY 7PM.

Gringo - About Joaquin he was in love with Adelina back when Ray was still alive but she never payed him more attention than just as a loyal friend . After many years he found Flavia and from there came Ray Jr.

And yeah i agree that this novela is one of a kind, just like La Malquerida but i hope it doesnt get too boring till the end but if the writers can keep us entertained until now then it shouldnt be a problem.

And i vote Padre J as the best Padre ever ,he is one of a kind and i definetly appreciate him more than Padre Tom from Que Te Perdone Dios who is HOT but shouldnt really be a priest and his frijoles are too frail &weak compare to J's ! I have always found Padres weak and only sharing minor roles but Padre J is on a class on his own!

Hey, LN, thanks a lot! Always glad to see you on the patio. I personally love me some hulu+ especially since my reception with Comcrap is so bad lately. It was the caption on hulu+ that had the lines for Mr. Black and White Rata. Love it!

Gringo I'm in the dark about Joaquin. Was he engaged to Adelina at one time?

No. Joaquin was always sweet on Adelina but she just wasn't feeling it. They were then and remain now just friends. Joaquin is married to a jealous lack lustre woman named Flavia and they have a cute little boy named after Raimundo.

Thanks Countx and Lila---Joaquin seems like a very nice guy but on the other hand---well to be fair, we haven't seen much of her but Flavia seems to be the very opposite of nice. Or it could be that when she sees Adelina, she goes into protection mode. Don't you come near my husband. But whatever, we probably will learn more of them as time goes by.

I can't get over the BIG SCARE last Friday with Aldonza alone in the house with an unrecognizable male figure standing in the doorway. Get a pistol girl and learn how to use it. If it's against the law down there as some have already said, keep a good canister of pepper spray nearby. You have enemies that want to hurt you. Stay on guard---
stay on guard at all times from here on out. There's a lot stake in sleepy Santa Lucia.
the gringo

And yeah i like how Sev is not too overbearing with his evil not like Fausto Lopez Guerra who unleashed terramasses of cruelty, torture ,abuse and probably will not even stop at this and lets not mention Pedro Medina ,.I love SG but man that dark force is just quenching and at times unbearing. Alexis has became one of my favorites too because his eyes and smugs tell it all without even a punch felt and his voice is charming,he could potray a dumpsterman and would still feel threatening !
Too bad he wasnt in La gata :(

Remember how I said I didn't like Friday?

Monday is bearable knowing I will see La Sombra.

I'm not an addict. I don't need an intervention. Lol.

Happy Monday, Sara and all my other LS Patio Peeps! Less than 12 hours to go!

:D

Would that all addictions were this harmless. . .even beneficial!

;D

ITA, Lila. The Patio Peeps are the self-help support group. ;-)

I think that makes us all enablers. Lol.

Sara..Here's some rationalization for you regarding being addicted to love...I mean telenovelas. I was watching a lecture on PBS by Dr. Cristianne Northrup. (I think that was her name. ) She talked about a study of very old people that discovered that folks who live to the ripest ages usually have a daily ritual that gives them pleasure. It could be a cigar or cocktail after dinner or whatever. Aaand Sooo ...Instead of calling telenovelas ''an addiction,'' how about we call a ritual.

Your welcome.

P.s. You can see that I have had some experience with rationalization.

You're welcome...sorry..I am scurrying.

Oh I like that Susanlynn.

We have a ritual.

Does that make us a cult?

Oh am llena de snark today.

Yes,,yes it does. We are most definitely a cult, so...we need a chant..and maybe drums....and beads...lots of beads.

We had some big ass beads on La Gata.

Thank you, Susanlynn! A ritual, yeah, that's what it is.

And for several years I have referred to myself and others of the BB generation as "ripening" instead of aging.

So as I ripen I enjoy rituals which stimulate and further enrich the multi-colored and textured fabric of my mind. Novelas shared with the Caray Nation top the list!

10 hours to go---Call it an addiction, a ritual or whatever, La Sombra has got me and it won't let go. I can't get away---I don't
want to get away. It's a happy indulgement. A little dark at times but the sun sine is poking through here and there.

I was thinking that Aldonza now has five people on her side although only two of those five have any power to speak of. The two being Padre J. and lawyer Renato. I would be a little more comfortable if a few more people with power or influence would jump on board for Aldonza.

Will evil Sever find out tonight that the old rancho has been rented?

Must see TV. It's a great addiction.
the gringo

The addiction could be called an adventure.
the gringo

A Santa Lucia adventure.
the gringo

"I think that makes us all enablers. Lol. "

No. No. No. (and denial is not a symptom)

There are worse addictions .... says my table on the Patio.
:-)

Oh I definitely don't want to get over my addiction!

gringo-I'm glad I'm not alone in counting down hours to the show!

Sara---No your not alone. 9 hours to go but please, no more big ass beads. I've had enough of them to last me a lifetime.
the gringo

AMEN! Just say no to big ass beads.

I can remember parts of a chant from my hula days. Does that qualify for the ritual/addition group that meet on the patio? I can chant it (badly) but SPELLING?????

love auto correct....make that addiction.

YES!!

We need a hula chant as part of the ritual!

You got it!! How does the gringo feel about flowers tucked behind the ear, or perhaps Diva's "no me toques" tee shirts, as ritualistic garb?

I'm totally down with that!!

OH!! And the passing around of the flaming midori cocktail!

Sara....it just occurred to me (as I look at your post)...a leopard belt!!! That should be our required uniform. Forget the beads and flowers. Off to walk the dog and make a run to the market.

Mornin' all :) Thank you for all the well-wishes. I think they really helped me get through the run. And now I'm trying to ease back into "normal" life again...whatever that means!

The Latin jokes cracked me up. 'Cause I'm a nerd.

Maybe Cande liked both of the Alcocer brothers. I could see where it would really piss her off that one prefered a low-class, flirty-skirt-wearing hottie to her...and the other one prefered a life of celibacy. And then that darn tramp who stole Ray from her also stole her husband's DNA and made a baby with it. The nerve!

gringo, I think a co-ed painting party followed by a co-ed swimming party would be fun, as long as they don't start fighting with each other.

Susanlynn, good reframe! This is indeed a pleasurable ritual...watch show, read recap, connect with peeps.

Nobody bother me! I'm lining up my supplies for my daily ritual --

TV remote ... check
Laptop ... check
Tablet (backup) ... check
Kindle (backup to the backup) ... check
Comfy chair ... check
Large box of horse-shaped nerf missiles (to be aimed at Sev-ande) ... check
Leftover, overused raggedy beanie (left over from TSTSNBM) ... check (probably won't use it, but you never know)
Snacks including guacamole and Tostitos ... check
Liquid nutrients (okay, a pitcher of margaritas or as my son calls them, little daisies) ... almost check (these MUST be cold, so ingredients are ready but won't make them 'til later)

Let's see hmmm ... I think I'm ready! See you all later!

Oh, right ... have to go take care of a little thing called WORK! Luckily I work from home!

Anon3:45-I'm not sure who you are, but I LOVE your ritual!

The chant that usually runs through my mind as I watch these shows is : ''No puede ser..no puede ser..no puede ser...etc''

Lila...You aren't old. You've just been young for a long time.

No puede ser.
Sev deserves the chair.

Ok. That't totally inappropriate, but it's the first thing that popped into my head.

No puede ser.
Val has stupid hair.

We all have daily rituals. For example, my morning ritual is as follows : 1. Get out of bed 2. Take a shower 3. Get dressed 4. Eat breakfast 5. Style hair, put on make up , and put on jewelry. I also have a ritual when I get home from work 1, Lie on the sofa

No puede ser
Pru's sobriety is rare

No puede ser.
Sever's arm's not there.

My routine:
Wake up.
Feed the cats.
Coffee.
Recap/comments.
Crush Candies.
Run around because I wasted too much time.

PM
Arrive home.
Walk with husband.
Put on pajamas.
Sit on couch.

No puede ser
I won't be home when the show airs.

I'm totally watching the first 10 minutes before I leave, though.

No puede ser
Cande's stuckup with nose up in the air

no puede ser
Lardo???,,I just don't care

No puede ser
Seve's full of fertilizer
