La sombra del pasado #38 4/9/10 Today I Am A Man or Cris Finds His Spine

Thank all that is holy, the writers started with Cris and Val and didn't leave me hanging. (Then again, they left me with contratct/business dialog...which I hate and never quite get.)

So yes. Cristobal(Cris) leaned in and for a split second I really thought I would be doing one of my now (in)famous Grumpy Recaps™. Luckily, he stopped himself. Valeria(Val) of course kept pushing him to give in. She reminds him of how things were when they were in Spain and says they've become cold and distant with each other since returning to Santa Lucia. It's kind of sad that Cris has to explain to her that fabulous sex does not a great couple make. There's more to a healthy relationship than that. He still cares for her and that's why he doesn't want to hurt her. Val thinks it's because Aldonza offered herself to him and since she was a novelty, Cris thought her better than Val. Cris tells her not to talk just to hear herself talk. Aldonza doesn't want to have anything to do with him. (And he's still not marrying you b*tch so... HA!) Wow, Thelma Madrigal goes Rudolph when she cries.

Aldonza, Lola and Pato comfort Renato. Dr Gonzalo (Renato's dad) and Attending Doctor come to inform him that his mother is in critical condition. Mom had an aneurysm (hot damn spelled it right on the first try.) They stopped the bleeding but they don't know how much damage there will be or if she will even come out of the coma. The next few hours will be critical. Renato wants to see her. When she is out of intensive care he can see her.

Dominga brings Candela's(Cande) tea. Padre Jeronimo(Padre J) is there to see her. Cande makes excuses and won't go down to see him. Domina thinks she should. Cande asks her if she's deaf and tells her she doesn't want to see him. Dominga leaves her alone so see if Cande can get her head in order. Cande pulls out her box of memories and tears up the picture of herself and Sev on their wedding day.

Dominga makes Cande's excuses. Padre understands Cande doesn't want to face him. Dominga tries to explain that despite her tough and arrogant exterior, Cande is not that bad. Cande is carrying around a lot of baggage. Padre reminds Dominga that everyone does. (And I like to think that in is head he was saying "They don't go around slapping people in churches and trying to throw around the ashes of the dearly departed.") Sev enters and he and Padre chit chat about Cande's *ahem* numerito (scene.) Sev gets around to asking about Padre J and Cande's friendship. Padre confirms they have been friends for a long time. Sev can just imagine the kinds of things Cande has confessed to the Padre. Apparently nothing. Cande has never used Padre as her confessor precisely because of that friendship. (Is anyone else kind of surprised? Who has she been confessing to all this time? Aren't Catholics required to confess right before Christmas and Easter?) Sev finishes up the conversation by asking about Aldonza. Padre J gives him the stinkeye and leaves.

Prudencia(Pru) asks how Val's meeting with Cris went. Not well. Cris is still not marrying Val. Pru begs her not to repeat her suicide attempt. Val is not going to stand there an do nothing. Pru suggests maybe a trip. A change of scenery. Val is not going leave. She is staying and making sure Aldonza does not get what belongs to Val. Pru wants to know what she's going to do. Val is not yet sure of her Mis Planes. But the war between her and Aldonza is just starting!

There is still no change in Renato's mom. Dr. Gonzalo feels so terrible about what happened between him and Aldonza's mom. He swears he doesn't know what came over him. He asks Renato to forgive him. Renato tells his father that its forgotten. Dr G goes to the chapel. Renato tells Aldonza about his dad's guilt...especially about Roberta. He told his dad to let it go. Aldonza asks if Renato has let it go. He has. Everyone makes mistakes. All he can do right now is think about his mom. Aldonza comforts him. For Renato, her presence is very important.

Still loving the theme song. Also love seeing my not-so-common maiden name in the opening credits. (The only time a character had my maiden name, the character was a prostitute.)

Emmanuel(E-man) comes to the kitchen to ask where Melesio(Mel) is. He tries to apologize to Dominga. She thinks he should be apologizing to Lola. He explains that he tried to, but Lola kicked him to the curb. Dominga asks if he's going to give up that easily. She tells him to keep apologizing. He wants to do that and he'll look for Lola today. Dominga tells him about Renato's mom and Aldonza and Lola's trip to the DF.

Ok, I'm invoking the RPC (Recapper's Privilege Card.) There's this scene in the hospital where Patricio(Pato) tries to make small talk with Lola and she can't even seem to understand the most basic of concepts (like what a pasante-intern or pinche-kitchen help) and words (like "amada".) She's from a small town. She's not stupid. Save that crap for the comedies.

Aw hell. The contract talk. The rental contract is solid. There are no loose ends. As long as Humberto(Hum) doesn't recognize/admit that he was the frontman, there is nothing they can do but offer more money to rent it. Seve does not want that. He has to rent what is his? Maybe a third person can rent it? That won't work either. Aldonza could sue. If the money is returned and the penalty is paid, there is no crime. As long as she doesn't take possession of the property? Then there would be a crime? Whoever takes possession first wins? ¿Qué qué what? No further explanation.

Back at the hospital they try to make Lola look like an idiot again. Ganso, pato *nyuck nyuck nyuck.* Renato asks Pato to go to the office, print and bring Aldonza's document. Aldonza tells him not to worry and a nurse tells Renato he can see his mother. Adelina calls and asks for an update. They are all praying for the woman. They are all working hard and getting ready to move. They agree to talk later.

E-man runs into Cris and asks if he saw Val. He did and everything is the same. He's not marrying Val. He would marry Aldonza in a heartbeat if she would accept him. E-man tells Cris about the trip to the DF and wonders about how close she and Renato are. Cris still maintains that Aldonza and Renato are just friends. E-man asks about Cande. After that scene in the church, Cris has got to realize that his mother is very against the idea of Cris and Aldonza being together.) Cris is not going to do just what his mother wants. He's going to fight for Aldonza, no matter what his mother and father say. E-man reminds him that Aldonza wants nothing to do with him. Cris contends that her words say no, but her lips say yes (ok, folks. The inner feminist is ROARING. Help me justify this to myself. She said NO dammit.) Cris is going to stay in Santa Lucia until she is his!

Renato talks to his mother and tells her everything will be ok and she will recover. He cries. He loves her. She's the best thing that ever happened to him. She flatlines. The doctor runs in.

Gaby and Pato arrive and Aldonza fills them in. Gaby asks how Aldonza has been. Lola tells Gaby about Aldonza's mother passing away. Gaby mentions just seeing Julia (Renato's mom) in the office recently. Aldonza is surprised to learn Gaby works with Pato and Renato. Gaby is surprised Renato didn't mention it. Aldonza says Renato's mom must not be doing well because his father was just called in.

Renato's mother passes away. The doctor calls it. I can't believe they let Renato stay in there and watch her die.

Abelardo(Lardo) tells Sev about a property. Sev tells Abelardo to go rent the property in the name of Simoneta Saavedra. Sev hands over a wad of cash (after putting his gun on the desk) and tells 'Lardo not to bet it all away or lose it. Cris comes in to get a book about horse care and cross breeding. He wants to learn as much as he can. He changed his mind about staying. He wants to now. Cris leaves and Sev tells 'Lardo not to say a word to anyone about the rental.

Renato tells his friends about his mother's death. Tears, hugs. (Heartless recapper thinks maybe the actor needs to work on crying a little better.) Gaby hugs Renato and Aldonza looks mighty jealous to me. What does the patio think?

Joaquin(Juaco) goes to see Dominga. He would like her to talk to Flavia and convince her to not be so jealous. Dominga is willing, but can Juaco assure her that he is over his feelings for Adelina. He swears he is. He tried years ago. Adelina wasn't interested. Now he has Flavia and his son Ray. Dominga tells him women have a sixth sense about these things and if Flavia thinks there are any feelings there. She will not let go of her jealousy.

Sev comes to inform Cande that Padre J didn't believe a word of her headache story. He informs her that Cris is going to stay to work in the hacienda. Cande blames Aldonza. Sev rubs it in Cande's face that none of her Mis Planes have worked out. She couldn't keep him from Aldonza. He didn't marry Val. If they don't apply themselves, Aldonza will win the battle. He then tells her he's going to take care of some business with "Don Emilio".

Mary and Val discuss their respective love lives. I don't care. I'm giving it short shrift. Sue me. Val is not going to hole up in her room and cry. She's got some Mis Planes too. She only says she's going to grab the bull by the horns. Val's plan for E-man worked. Things are going great and E-man and Lola are kaput. Mary has everything well calculated. Blech.

Hum returns home and asks if Val saw Cris. He is relieved that she didn't. He really thinks it's the best thing. Pru tells him Val went out. Pru was glad. Cris doesn't deserve any more tears shed over him. And Pru is on her way to eat with Cande. His dinner is in the microwave.

Prayers are said for Renato's mother. Gaby takes his hand. Aldonza looks jealous again!

Pru assures Cande that she has her support even it the people of Santa Lucia didn't like Cande's actions in the church. That meretriz(slut vocabulary alert!) continues to mess with their families and Pru talks about The Stoning. Aldonza will become the official comehombres(maneater) of Santa Lucia (does she get to ride a float during the Melon parade?) You can't wash that stigma away with a thousand baths in holy water. Nope, that furcia(whore vocabulary alert!) will think twice before she makes a play for Cris again. Cande looks like she really has a headache now. Cande doesn't know how she'll keep Cris safe from Aldonza. Pru tells her not to give up. Cande will think of something.

Sev informs Simoneta that he's rented a house. She promises to be the good, servile, loving and QUIET lover he wants. Sev needs her to do something. She needs to offer a good sum of money to rent a house that Dr Zapata has already rented. She's going to have to offer a lot of money....and something about the contract. And it has to be done before the other renter moves in? Help me my dear patio peeps. It will work because Hum likes money. Simoneta also informs Sev she has her cover story ready. She's still here because they still haven't agreed on a price. She learns quick.

Pru's car battery seems to be dead. Tomás drives up and offers to get her battery going again. Pru is a cougar. He fixes a loose wire and Pru and her care fire right up. She asks what she owes him. He just wants to touch her "piel" ...suurre dude. I totally believe you are just talking about the coat. Pru is turned on.

Fin de episodio.

Looking forward to it :D

Well that took a hell of a lot longer than I wanted. I was distracted.

I really can't wait to hear what the patio thinks of tonight's events.

Sara, first of all it was an awesome recap! All of it! And thank you for continuing to mention how great the theme music is because I love it too!

My observations: yes Gaby has the hots for Renato and Ald was totally giving her the stink-eye.

Renato, who started out the evening as a sensitive, caring son, sobbed perhaps just once too often by the end of the episode. Ratchet it back, dude; you want to be strong and sensitive, not just a bag of waterworks. (Sorry, not meaning to offend anyone).

Pru enjoying her hearty meal while jabbering to Cande with her mouth full--a complete hoot!

Am going to re-read the recap and come back later.

J in Oregon

Gracias Sara! I enjoyed the recap immensely!

Working backwards...was Pru having some kind of alcohol-induced fantasy? Yeah, nobody's talking about that coat, I'm sure.

"Does she get to ride a float during the Melon parade?" Well, sure, if they're going to crown you the Town Maneater, then there ought to be an actual crown.

Oh yeah, Aldonza did look jealous of Gaby and Renato. The funny thing is, before she started giving them those QTH looks, I thought to myself "Oh, ok, Renato's just one of those really physically demonstrative people with both women and men and it's not super significant that he keeps being touchy-feely with Aldonza." I guess she didn't see it that way.

"Help me justify this to myself. She said NO damnit." Yeah, she did. And I hate that he's not respecting that. This isn't sweet and innocent fun. Especially not after what his father did. No means NO. He needs to walk away. Insistence is not "romantic" it's just wrong.

I didn't get anything more out of the contract talk. I guess it's like the US where once someone has taken physical possession AND they're not behind on their rent you can't evict them.

Val, what part of "I'm not leaving you for someone else, I'm just leaving you" didn't you understand? Ugh. So tiresome.

For some reason, I thought the yellowish swirls on Cande's wedding dress were some kind of embroidery, but I guess that was something they did to make the photo look aged. Eh, too bad. I was actually going to admire her for making a bold fashion choice. Are we supposed to take from her attitude that she really is/was in love with him?

Ooh! Almost forgot--If I ever have brain surgery and am critical with bandages all over my head, please do NOT let Renato in to visit (even if I beg). I was watching him patting his mama's bandaged head affectionately, right before all the monitors started going off...

J in Oregon

Sara, awesome.
So Cande who has the hots for a priest, repressed looking as she is, and Pru looking much like a cougar checking out the young man's behind who offered to help her with the car are calling Aldi
Meretriz,Furcia and comehombre of the town. Like I said in the previous chapter,...what hypocrites!~!!!Why don't they just face amirror and call themselves these whore terms. Oh and include their daughter-dtr in law and also Mari.Anne

Was that pre-Padre J. and Cande posing as a couple in that old color photograph that Cande was keeping in her keepsake box? Somehow, it didn't look like Padre J.

Thanks, Sara, for that excellent recap.

First, I am soooo glad that Cris did not succumb to Val's..eh..charms as she charmed all over him. Whew. You dodged that bullet, buckeroo.

Renato..oh my sweet baboo..you went just a little over the line. I, too , cringed as Ren petted his poor mom's bandaged head. However, the hardest to watch was when he...and his hair...were flopping from one supportive friend to the other. That was a little weird. Sensitive is good , but that scene was just odd. AL was definitely not happy with Renato holding hands with that other girl. Perhaps she has stronger feelings for him than she is admitting.

Poor Candy..no friends except boozy Pru. Who set that wine bottle right next to Pru so that she could self serve ? Was that young dude Lardo's friend ?

Well, where will we go from here.

Kat-Thank you! We were thinking alike on the dress because at first I was confused by the yellow swirly action on the picture...but then I realized they were trying to make it look aged.

Also, I agree: insistence is not romantic.

J in O:Thank you!
"Ratchet it back, dude; you want to be strong and sensitive, not just a bag of waterworks."

Didn't offend me at all. The actor has been doing great up to this point. Hopefully he will improve or they won't expect him to do much crying. He was kind of oddly limp as well.

Anne: Mary is definitely a ho-skank!

Gobluefan from OH-It was Severiano in their wedding picture. Did I not put that in the recap? I'll go fix that.

Susanlynn-Thank you! Oh I see you noticed his limp nature, too "flopping from one supportive friend to another."

And yes, Tomas is a friend of 'Lardo's. He drove the getaway car when Lardo broke into Dr. Hum's office.

So I'm not the only one who thought Aldonza was jealous. Yay. I'm not crazy.

Everyone has Mis Planes right now. I wish they would give us a hint as to what they were!

We better increase production of our Mis Planes line of planners.

I only got to watch the very beginning last night and I haven't read the recap yet, but I just wanted to give a WOOHOO!!!

I didn't want to hate Cris and especially this early in the show. Now I can breath easy and watch in peace.

I agree cathyx! We might actually avoid the pregnancy plot. Though I admit I'm nervous about Val's Mis Planes.

Hi, Sara. Great recap! I for one really liked your grumpy recaps, because I usually felt the same way, and I was prepared to be really irritated with Cris for falling for Val's attack, but thank goodness it didn't happen.

"Wow, Thelma Madrigal goes Rudolph when she cries" made me laugh.

So Sev doesn't know about Cande and Padre J's history? This really makes me wonder about how Cande and Sev got together and why.

"Tomas drives up and OFFERS TO GET HER BATTERY GOING AGAIN." I don't know if you chose those words on purpose or not, but that phrase is just great in view of what is probably going to happen.

David

Thanks for a great recap Sara!

David - you're on wavelength! I was about to quote those two things too. Get my battery started indeed...

(And I like to think that in is head he was saying "They don't go around slapping people in churches and trying to throw around the ashes of the dearly departed.")
Thank you! When he said everyone has stuff, it really drove home for me that she needs to see someone about letting things the f*** go. I get the lost love, lost dreams thing, especially since she's still unhappily married to Sev. But the radical way she's handled her baggage just leaves me speechless. I guess we need unhinged, maladjusted people so we can have a good TN, but seriously.

Who knew there were so many words for whore? :) Does The Naughty Melon sell TN themed thesauruses?

Yeah, Renato's flopping from one friend to the next was super weird. He reminded me of those bowling pin shaped inflatable clowns. Aldonza practically yanked his head to her chest, which wasn't even a jealous reaction to him and Gaby (and she's definitely giving off early jealous vibes there) because she was the first to comfort him. The directing for that whole scene was weird to me.

Also, the direction for the death scene was weird too. Why was Ren touching his mom's head? Does anyone else think it's a little weird to say "you're the best thing that ever happened to me" to your birth mom (at least, without some sweet, heart-to-heart context)? Did anyone tell the actors playing the dr and nurse what to do in that scene? cuz that doctor looked completely confused the whole time. And Renato just standing there in the background? That was weird to me, but maybe because I was waiting for a TN level panic.

Thanks David!

We aren't really supposed to talk about actor's private lives or physical things they can't help. But I hope I am forgiven for mentioning her crying. Thelma is much better at it than Renato. And the red nose indicates to me that she's genuine.

And you caught me. I totally used those words on purpose.

I am laughing my head off about your comments hellashelle!

I was definitely QTH? With Renato's "You're the best thing that ever happened to me."

On my phone and gotta scoot to work.

Ah'll be bahck.

Thinking about that death scene again, I just need to double check: we are restocked with the MelonHead Beanies for this season, right? They're in the back, right? Next to the Think Twice condoms featuring Sev, Val, Cande, Pru, Lardo and Mari's faces on the packaging?

"Think Twice condoms"

hahahahaha!!

Sara, you are such a hoot. Such a tragedy last night and you've got me giggling through the whole recap. Bless you for lightening things up.

"(And he's still not marrying you b*tch so... HA!)"

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Ok, so poor Renato. You have to do what you're given and my guess is that all the crying and hugging and pleas to his mother was there to show us what a sensitive, awesome guy he is. We knew that, writers/directors!! You didn't need to slam it in our faces...but I forgive because we have had very few slip ups in direction in this show. But man, did I want in on the hugging and maybe smoothing out his gorgeous hair...older yes, not dead.

And Gaby is so being set up to be Renato's 2nd prize son't we think? I can live with that if we have to when Allie goes back to Cris. Better than killing him off which is the other alternative in dramas. But love the look on Allie's face. She was so stunned/jealous and don't think she even realizes her own reaction.

Yeah, Lola the country-bumpkin. Not so much and that was the 2nd strike against the writers. Careful folks, one more strike and patio will get a bit testy.

Cande is wound so tight, I don't think we have seen all she is capable of doing if she let's loose. And Sev sure knows what buttons to push. I HATE Sev with every fiber of my being, but it is fun watching Alexei play the character.

Lardo got an eyeful of that money in the safe...hmmmmm. And how cute Dominga basically encouraging E-Man not to give up on Lola...this woman is one step from sainthood to me. Our voice of reason.

Daisynjay

Thanks, Daisynjay!

"And Gaby is so being set up to be Renato's 2nd prize son't we think...Better than killing him off which is the other alternative in dramas"

Or having him go evil, crazy jealous. So yeah, I'm fine with him eventually ending up with Gaby.

"Careful folks, one more strike and patio will get a bit testy."

I still have faith in this crew. They just had a hiccup episode.

Great Sara!

"She's from a small town. She's not stupid. Save that crap for the comedies"

Darn, I got back to back to back conferences but want to weigh in quick, bunches in this one bothered me.

I too don't get this fighting for your love crap, who cares what your reasons are, if it ain't happening the rest is creepy stalking and a restraining order is appropriate.

The whole Ren's mom sick and dying over done and hope it has relevance to the story.

Aldonza does like Renato so don't understand why she went mopy and confessed she loved Cris to Renato and PJ. In retrospect not believable she loves Cris and he has absolutely nothing to offer her. Go retrieve a book on horses this late in the game.... please

Why in the world Aldonza wants to return to Santa Lucia is beyond me. If she wanted to take Severiano down she could do it from afar by proxy just as he will do. Stay in the big city girl.

Thanks tofie!!

"Why in the world Aldonza wants to return to Santa Lucia is beyond me. If she wanted to take Severiano down she could do it from afar by proxy just as he will do. Stay in the big city girl."

Amen! At this point they need to start revealing what Aldonza's Mis Planes are because wanting the family farm back is not enough for me. I wouldn't give a hoot about the family farm if it meant having to live and stay in that pissant little town with my rapist. I need to know WHY it's important for her to actually STAY in Santa Lucia.

Or maybe I'm supposed to think it's part of her healing process? Like overcoming your fear of swimming by jumping into a pool?

I didn't understand the Pato/Lola interaction last night, so I didn't get offended. At the time, I just thought they were using a bunch of slang with multiple meanings and shrugged it off. Now, I'm glad I didn't get it cuz I would've been annoyed too. This wide-eyed, big city! new vocab! I'm barely 20! thing is starting to wear on my nerves ever so slightly.

Maybe I was being unfair about the dialog. I admit I had no idea "pinche" could be kitchen help. I've always used it in the not so nice "pinche thing doesn't work" context. And they were using words with multiple meanings...meh. The scene just didn't work for me and I really lost it when she acted like "amada" was some huge, new word. In context it should have been very obvious he was talking about. There are no "double plays" on that word that I know of.

I just felt like they wrote Lola as too bumpkin dense in that scene. It annoyed me.

It was two stereotypes for the price of one--"country people are stupid/unsophisticated" and "city people are snotty." At any point in the conversation, either or both of them could have said what they meant without resorting to slang or specialized language. Lola doesn't usually talk like that! And Pato could have explained the job function rather than just using a different word for it. It's like somebody not understanding when you say your "whatzit" is broken and when they ask you to explain, you say "you know, my thingamajig."

And honestly I was also bothered that they made her look like a twit because when he ran into the elevator, there was real chemistry.

That scene made it feel like they were backtracking..."no. wait. Maybe we want her with E-man after all."

tofie, I agree with so much of what you said! And I don't know if anybody in this show actually (a) knows what they feel or (b) is being honest with themselves about it. It seems to be a theme--Candela with her ripping up of the wedding picture; Val insisting on marrying Cris; Cris doing pretty much everything he's doing; Emmanuel maybe or maybe not having feelings for Lola and/or Mari....

Aaaand another word on Lola...

I don't like her coming off as the idiot. Dominga and Mel are not idiots. So why would Lola be an idiot?

Meh. The same reason Mary is a skanky b*tch and 'Lardo is a slimy lizard.

Sara, I wonder if the entire script is written by the writers/writing team as a whole or if they split things up. I wouldn't be surprised if the explanation was that that part was assigned to a different person than the one who is handling the main character scenes. It would still be someone's job to keep the overall tone consistent. Instead we get the waiting room sitcom...while Renato's mom is dying.

That would explain a lot of things, Kat.

"Instead we get the waiting room sitcom...while Renato's mom is dying."

Just makes it obvious how dropped the ball was.

Lola went to school, damnit! The same school Mari, Val, and Aldonza went to. She's tech-savvy, or at least social-media-savvy. Able to work in Irma's shop, handling customer service, the register, stocking, inventory. Able to think on her feet. Somehow The One Prepa In All Of Santa Lucia turned out all four of these young women? Aldonza, the Agronomist; Val, the Serial Degree Non-Finisher; Mari, the Manhunter; Lola, the Overqualified Shopgirl?

Well, it's a very good prepa that meets the needs of all learners through thoughtful planning and differentiated and student-centered instruction.

Daisynjay, can we just have nobody make any further moves without getting Dominga's approval first? She might be the only one whose judgment is not clouded!

hellashelle, I think we stuck the beanies in the warehouse, thinking we wouldn't need them. I sent Lardo to re-stock them weeks ago, but he never came back. Can we give away the Think Twice condoms with every drink purchase?

David, I was surprised that Sev didn't know about Cande's history. I had taken it for granted, especially since El Santuario used to be in his family, that he grew up in the area. They all would have grown up together, I would think. But maybe when the family went broke, they moved away?

Grrrrr..twice now I have made comments and hit the wrong button on my tablet and lost them . grrr

I think that the dying mom storyline was meant to get A and R back to reunite with their college buds so that A could find out the Gaby and Pat work with R and that Gaby has a crush on R.:-)

Susanlynn, it did have that feel. Which is a lousy reason for Mama to die! Especially when they're being so obvious about it.

Sara, inspired title.

I inhaled your fragrant recap, sheer nectar. What I especially loved in particular was your razor sharp wit and observations including (but not limited to "(Heartless recapper thinks maybe the actor needs to work on crying a little better)" (YES! ITA) and "She's from a small town. She's not stupid. Save that crap for the comedies".

Marvelous Sara from beginning to end.

“ok, folks. The inner feminist is ROARING. Help me justify this to myself. She said NO dammit.)”. Amiga, this can’t be justified. I try and remind myself this is TN land, and strap my beanie closer to my head. I fear the best we can do is recognize that the words come from a place of love, not hate. That elusive, heady, all-encompassing emotion. He wants to wrap her in a cocoon of love and protect her. I try to remember that she rebuffed him without explanation and that she did return his kisses. Fervantly. My only other solace is that he is declaring his intentions to Em, a third party, and not Aldonza herself.

And I totally agree with you and everyone who has commented on it thus far that Aldonza looked jealous! Hmm.

As a Catholic, I was taught that we should confess often but at least yearly.

"Sev finishes up the conversation by asking about Aldonza. Padre J gives him the stinkeye and leaves". Loved it. I guess it would be very wrong of me to want the dear Padre to give Sev a good thrashing? Hanging my head in shame (well, sort of) ;)

Pru makes me laugh. I thought the actor playing Lardo laughed for a brief second too! I bet Cynthia/Pru is a lot of fun...

You've brightened this dreary day Sara. Thank you.

Diana

I had the same thought, Susanlynn. Up to now Renato was firmly "friend zoned", but now that Aldonza has seen some competition things may change.

Put in that perspective, the death of Renato's mom doesn't seem so "off" to me now. It would have been less believable to have everyone show up in Santa Lucia. Though I'm still wondering if somehow that's how it will all end up.

Diana, I hope my question about confession didn't come off as snotty or impudent. I really was curious. And it really surprised me to hear Cande had not made a confession to Padre J...the only Padre in town for quite some time now.

She makes such a show of giving to the church and being active. I would think she would at least "follow the rules" too.

But I guess if it's just once a year, she could have just taken a trip and confessed elsewhere.

J, that scene with Pru gleefully chowing down is much more my kind of comedy :) I don't know if that's the writing or the acting--she manages to make it believable.

Anne, once again, right on about the name-callers projecting their own behavior on somebody else.

Diana..I am with you. Chris is being steadfast and persistent in his pursuit of his one true love. I have to admit that is kind of sweet...and hot...to me. When I once tried to break up with hub, he wouldn't have it. He was right, and I was wrong. I am glad that he was steadfast. It would have been the worst mistake of my life.

So...it looks as though AL now has a whole team of legal eagles for her planes.

I think I am more bothered by the way Cris phrased it. I understand the sentiment though.

Evidently Cris calling off the wedding and Val's subsequent ''suicide'' attempt has not affected Pru's hardy appetite or her appreciation for a nice bottle of wine. she' pretty pragmatic.

I mean...a girl's gotta eat...

;-)

I may have just tried to go to the cafepress site to see how it all works.

It's probably a good thing it was blocked at work.

I always love the look on Candy's face when she is with Pru. What a look.

They don't have planners, sadly. But they do have calendars and blank notebooks :D And t-shirts...and pens...and pencils....

I think it's possible for Cris to keep fighting for Aldonza without it being creepy, but that doesn't involve getting her alone, kissing her by force, etc. I would suggest he try just being her friend and actually being there for her instead of making her life more difficult, but the way his mom's behaving, pretty much anything he does is going to make her life more difficult. Maybe that needs to be the first step--dealing with his parents. Nothing says love like stopping Cande and Sev's reign of terror. Work on finding out the truth about this "feud." As long as dating Cris sounds like a life-threatening proposition, not only is she not going to go there, she's not going to appreciate the pressure.

Sara, no your question on confession was fine!

susanlynn, how fortunate your wonderful hub persisted. It's obvious how happy you are together.

Diana

Last night and prior, I kept noting how Val's nose turned pink every time she cried. Was it the makeup department rushing in? Then when Renato was crying his eyes were red-rimmed and maybe his nose a bit bunny-pink too. So we definitely need a line of hankies. "Cry-me-a-waterfall", something like that...

J in O
Home with a cold and needing a tissuuuuuuue.....

I think the red nose is because Val is a redhead with pale skin..just like my mother and sister.

Thanks Sara, just watched, then read and now I'm up to speed. I have no problem with you using your RPC. If I could have ffwd through those moments I would have.

I think that ending scene with Pru and Tomas must have been a dream. It was like they didn't know each other but then did. That can only happen in a dream.

Will Aldonza make it back in time to claim the house? I hope Humberto has higher standards than Sev is giving him credit for and that he won't rent it to Simoneta.

Diana..I actually told him at one point that I loved him but perhaps it was like I loved my cousin Drew. I am very glad that he was persistent. I would have made a big mistake. He has been not only a wonderful husband but a wonderful person to everyone in our family.

The hankie idea is great, J!!

cathyx- Thank you! I try not to overuse the RPC and so far on this show I haven't even wanted to use it, but that scene...not worth my time.

I took the Pru and Tomas scene for face value, but now I'm wondering if it *was* a dream.

Is it time for tonight's episode yet? Now I'm all worried about whether Aldonza will get the house or not.

As for the house..is it kind of like squatter's rights ? Will it count that Ade is in the house...and dodging bullets ?

Diana-I'm glad my confession didn't come off badly.

Susanlynn-Like Diana, I love your stories about you and your husband.

The house- we've had an awful lot of dialog about "moving" in. It's a race against time now.

Please, Hum. Don't be greedy.

With all the work that Aldonza and all put into getting the house ready, it would be that much worse if they lose it. But really, how can Al get her revenge if she's not in the house? I'm betting on that being the reason she stays in it. Or maybe they rent a room to Simoneta and live together? lol.

As for the house..is it kind of like squatter's rights ? Will it count that Ade is in the house...and dodging bullets ?

"Or maybe they rent a room to Simoneta and live together?"

If Simoneta weren't so wrapped up in Sev, I would think that Simoneta could be a great addition to the Mis Planes team.

Maybe it could still happen.

So Val is/was/will-again-be getting it on with Lardo and her mom is/was?/will be getting it on with his friend, Tomas....Is there something in the water in this town that makes most of the guys jerks or the women dumb/crazy? Has the Alcocer family been inoculated of their time outside of SL?

Whoops..sorry I posted twice. I got up to get a yogurt and work on the laundry and forgot that I had already posted that comment.

New rules : I just had to identify roses and guinea pigs to prove that I am not a robot.

Guinea pigs are cute!

Sara, as a recapper, you shouldn't have to go through captcha, to post a comment. I don't.

Aldonza needs all the help she can get because Seve & Candela are likely going to destroy her life (if they haven't already), probably even have her exiled from the country.

I don't go through captcha cathyx. But I sometimes wish I did because Susanlynn makes it sound like a lot of fun.

Lordie, yes, Pru last night. I forgot to note that before, but she was so hysterical to watch. From the curlers/toe nail painting scene, to the grubbing at Cande's and then the Cougar move at the end. I'm going to say it wasn't a dream. I could see Pru, who has made a point of being a very confident woman in using her sexual wiles (note "advice to daughter), would not be adverse to just maybe having a little fling since she feels rather under-appreciated by Hum. Frankly, gross as the thought is in a sense of real world, I would give anything to see Cynthia play this for all it's worth.

And do I think the death of mom was a plot ploy--absolutely I do. As noted, we needed to free up Renato to perhaps relocate to SL, needed to have Gaby come into the picture and who knows, maybe Patricio too? Though that awkward couch scene seemed to nix that Lola hook up.

And once again Sara, you and I are on the same wavelength. I looked at the curled up cat on my lap and said "You know, the girl has friends and could have had a great career and life in Mexico. Why the heck is she so hellbent on SL? It's a piece of property--she's going through all this for land?"
She could have found out Cris was married with kids when she moved back with this idea of taking back the ranch and confronting the idiot who raped her. I don't think her father would've wanted her to do all this for the ranch...just me.

Daisynjay

"I would give anything to see Cynthia play this for all it's worth."

I have complete faith that Cynthia will not let us down!

In the scene around the casket, the camera panned up from below and you could see two people in black leather jackets holding hands. I remember thinking : Is that Renato holding hands with Pato..or Gaby ?... depending on which one , the storyline would be decidedly different.

"Is that Renato holding hands with Pato..or Gaby ?... depending on which one , the storyline would be decidedly different."

Definitely!

regarding jumping Pru's battery, I thought that was happening a couple days ago when we saw her straddling Hum. The one who really needs some battery recharging is Cold Candy.brrrrr

Oooh Susanlynn, what a great comment!

Diana

Haha...more guinea pigs. They tried to trick me with a cat in a hat, but I was not fooled. I have been around a lot of cats ....however, most were not wearing hats. I am pretty discerning.

What's so odd to me is that Cande seems to be so...self-repressed? I guess her need to be "in the right" is so much more important. Sorry to be crude, but I get the impression she doesn't even recharge her battery herself.

Serious beanie adjustment.

Morning everyone! I'm not all that worried about Aldi not getting the property for a few reasons: The first is that while Humberto has been a scum bag in the past he seems to have changed for the better-and perhaps his guilt will get the better of him and he will allow Aldi to keep the house.

Second, he needed the money in order to pay of Sev and to pay for the wedding-which will not be happening, heck if it were me I would not be paying Sev a dime and force him to prove his money paid for the property.

Finally, I think Humberto knows that something is going on between Simoneta and Sev and I don't think he's stupid enough to rent the property to someone he thinks is involved with Sev.

About Lola, I kinda liked the scene, I thought there was a spark there-in fact much more of a spark than she has with E-man.

Excellent thoughts, Eli. You are probably right. Worry warts like me do tend to freak out at the slightest possibility. :)

I also think you've pegged Hum. He is scum, but at least he wants to try to make up for it.

I might go back and watch that Lola/Pato scene, Eli. There was definitely some chemical reaction happening in the elevator, but I didn't feel it in that scene.

Not crude Sara,I think watching Cande and Pru together, it does show a woman who is so worried about keeping it together to the point of repressing her own emotions, that she has flipped off the switch to everything. Even her "love" for her son has taken on a whole different level of need and control.
You could be sorry for her if it wasn't that flipping that switch has resulted in being cold, cruel and willing to "destroy" for some sort of gratification.

Too bad Ren's dad isn't a Psychiatrist. He could make a mint in SL.

ooooo...my Captcha is a tall glass of beer. TGIF!

Daisynjay

Eli, let's hope that your very logical reasons pan out with these very illogical people. I wonder how Hum is going to feel about AL if Pru and Val convince him that she is the reason for Cris dumping Val.

Sara..I believe the technical term is ''self recharging.'' I don't know ..Candy likes to be in control, so...

I'm really jealous of all the captcha fun.

I can't feel sorry for Cande. You're right Daisynjay. When you are freaking out in a church and hell-bent on deciding who your grown-ass son is going to marry, you need professional help.

"...if Pru and Val convince him that she is the reason for Cris dumping Val..."

Hum has actually been quite good at figuring out the truth. He seems pretty immune to Pru and Val's reality. He tolerates their reality, but he doesn't necessarily believe it. It's one of his few...well his only positive quality.

Severed is a dangerous guy , and Hum knows it. If Sec kills Hum,the property would go to Pru ,and perhaps he thinks that he could talk her out of it.

Hey, maybe Al's plan is to have that property turned into a national park so that Sev can never get his hands..er..hand on it.

My thoughts on Cande: I think it's clear that she had/has a thing for Padre J, but the never gave her the time of day, so she goes off and marries Sev, who I think she really did love, and then her world got turned upside down when she found out about the affair, I'm sympathetic to her up to that point.

Then instead of removing herself from a bad situation and giving herself and her son a shot at a happy life she does the opposite and stays in a loveless marriage with a man she resents, not only that but she takes an active role in keeping a mother from her child by saying the child died! You can't come back from that. And really there was no reason for her to stay with Sev, she was young, beautiful and financially stable, but she stayed not out of love but simply to save face and to further compound things she sent her only child away to keep him from his father. Yeah, not a very nice lady is she?

This whole show is a testament to what happens when you just refuse to LET SOMETHING GO. AL won't let go of getting the family farm back; Candy won't let her hatred for Roberta go ; Val won't let Cris go ; Severed won't let go of his obsession with that property. Let it go.

Evidently Cris calling off the wedding and Val's subsequent ''suicide'' attempt has not affected Pru's hardy appetite or her appreciation for a nice bottle of wine. she' pretty pragmatic.

I forgot to add that to my recap on Tuesday! Before Val fakes suicide, PRu is chilling on the couch with a magazine when I totally thought she'd still be freaking the f*** out and robocalling Cande.

"Is that Renato holding hands with Pato..or Gaby ?... depending on which one , the storyline would be decidedly different."
I had that thought when Pato slid pat Ren and gave him some words of comfort because I had looked away from the screen for a sec and when I looked back, I thought he was kissing Ren on the back of the head. That sure would be a hilarious twist, but no it looks like this is a A-R-G triangle. Or C-A-R-G.

Ooh, can we get A-R-G-Y-L-E at some point? Cuz then we could add some comfy slippers to the inventory ;)

This whole show is a testament to what happens when you just refuse to LET SOMETHING GO...Let it go.

Susanlynn - should we host a Frozen viewing party at the Naughty Melon for all of SL?

Eli - I agree. I also think that it wasn't just to save face, but also out of pure anger and that desire to make them hurt as much as she was hurting in that moment. The affair really did devastate her, but she was kind of tapping into the same thought that Al is now: I won't let them see my pain. Unfortunately, since he gave her still fragile heart to Sev and he carelessly broke it, Cande also refuses to show any positive emotions too.

Good analysis, Eli!

Ah Susanlynn. I am dealing with some real life stuff and NOT LETTING GO. Your comment was like a gentle reprimand. Thank you.

hellashelle-I vote for slippers anyway. OOOO, they can be melon shaped!

"since she gave her still fragile heart to Sev and he carelessly broke it, Cande also refuses to show any positive emotions too"

Hellashelle, the crux of Cande's issue and one that transcends, even "face".

And boy do I understand the burden of face!

Oh, Susanlynn, I agree these people are stubborn over things they should have just walked away from, but now I can't get that blasted song out of my head!

What especially is so heartless about Cande is that she looks at that picture realizing she married a man with no love because she couldn't have the hot padre....and then she's turning around and forcing the same choice on her own son.

Wallowing in self-pity is never pretty. Especially when you won't allow your own children's happiness because you didn't get to have something. They keep trying to give us a Cande as Dominga sees her, with some redeeming qualities, but frankly all I keep seeing is a selfish woman who can't get past her own regrets. Boo hoo.

Daisynjay

Sara...The interesting aspect of watching these crazy telenovelas is that we can relate them to our own lives...or as I like to call them our own real life telenovelas.Maybe we should all give our own telenovelas titles. Hey, girl, it is not easy letting go of real life stuff , also known as sh** just got real. I have let a lot of stuff go, but I am constantly challenged by he-whom-I-will-no-longer-name ...because he continually keeps on doing stuff. I let it go...and it circles back like a boomerang. However, one keeps trying to let it go...again...These shows are great in reminding us what not to do if we don't want to turn into Candy. I completely subscribe to the theory that the best revenge is living a wonderful life .

Yes, ''that'' is an earworm. I have seen ''Frozen'' at least a dozen times. I'd like to say that it never gets old...but it does...it does get old. I think that candy could relate to Elsa..the ice queen alone in her ice palace.

Sara & Susanlynn - TRUTH, ladies. When my ex broke up with me, the thing that most kept me from begging and attempting seduction (aside from blinding embarassment) was the countless hours I've spent watching rejected women because bsc villainesses.

Sara...Put me down for a pair of the melon slippers size 5 .

Sara - thank you for the recap. There has been no time to watch this episode, so I can only comment on what I've read.

I am going out on a limb here with the Cris-Aldonza "NO" issue. She said no with her voice but her kisses in the garden said "YES". I can see how a guy gets the mixed signals and ends up confused. There is the old saying "actions speak louder than words." So lanza nerfazos if you like, but I'm not judging Cris too harshly, at this point in time.

Doris - No, you're not alone at that table. Cris was pretty accurate. Aldonza has 2 very different kinds of lip service with 2 very different messages, so I think his statement was accurate. Also, he tried to use just his words the first time around and hit a brick wall.

Now, all That being said, he's very handsy. Even in the opening/closing credits when he soves Lardo and Tomas off of her, the way he grabs her around the waist is not exactly the stuff galans are made of, imo. He isn't even trying to understand why she doesn't want to be in a relationship with him, he's just like "ok, I took care of the enegagement thing; let's do this." While they've stepped up the kissing part of the romance, I'm still waiting for my talking through the night, getting to know each other part of things. Anyway, Cris could be handling this situation with far more respect for her, on physical, emotional and social levels.

Ok. I'm pretty wishy-washy when it comes to Cris so I will say that you have made some excellent points, Hellashelle. Cris still has NO CLUE about what happened to Aldonza. He would be dealing with her in a very different way if he did.

Of course, even taking rape out of the equation Cris isn't handling things very well with Aldonza. They're both pretty confusing. What did Kat say...hang on *scroll up comments*...

Ah!
"And I don't know if anybody in this show actually (a) knows what they feel or (b) is being honest with themselves about it..."

BINGO. Aldonza has told Renato and Padre J how she feels about Cris...but not Cris.

Cris has told Aldonza and E-man about how he feels...but isn't being honest with himself when it comes to his mother. He SAYS he's going to fight for Aldonza, but he is been kind of weak in dealing with his mother. Maybe practical is a better word. He's not being very practical.

Real life drama...I just washed a tissue with my good dark laundry. This never happens in telenovelas. I keep asking myself WWDD...What would Dominga Do? Does she have something in that crossbody bag of hers that could fix this problem ? This was not part of mis planes.

And I think Renato is ruined for me. Every time I read his name or type it I think "floppy fish crybaby."

Susanlynn that is the WORST. Aaargh!

I have to admit that my second favorite scene in the opening is Cris barreling in the pushing those two idiots away from AL. I need a hero.

You're replete with earworms today Susanlynn!

I kind of like that scene too.

What's your first favorite scene?

''Floppy fish crybaby''...oh my and yikes. I am giving Renato a pass. I think that the director gave him some bad direction there. I think that we were supposed to see the profound grief that comes of a truly good mother/child relationship...but it went off the tracks with all the passing around of floppy haired Renato from friend to friend in that friendship circle. He's still a sweetie, but he needs to man up a bit. He is young and sensitive which means that if he does not toughen up, Severed will eat him alive.l

Cris and AL in that red dress by the waterfall . I am such a hopeFUL romantic..always.

Is it possible they let the pasante write the hospital scenes? Oh that's "intern" for the country mice who might be reading. ;)

That really is a gorgeous scene. It doesn't matter what the red means, it stands out beautifully against all that nature.

susanlynn -ugh.....shredded tissue in the laundry. I can't tell you how often that happens to me. :-p

If the Sev-raped-Aldonza issue is somehow (via telenovela magic) resolved and she ends up with Cris, Aldonza still has Cande as her suegra. Eek! Aldie would have to decide if Cris is worth it. I don't hold much hope in Cande being redeemable. Her antics in the church are unforgivable.

I think Renato is a doll-his mothers death was very unexpected, how do you go from my mom has a headache to brain tumor and death, and not be totally devastated? One of the lines that got me was when his mom was telling him that he was an only child but that he was all the family she needed, clearly their bond was strong and I'm glad he had friends around to help comfort him.

I hope we see some strong friendships in this novela, it's so rare to see a group of you kids working together against the evil forces! That's something that I loved about AB, the friendships were solid and that helped them get through so much!

Losing a parent suddenly is devastating. No doubt. The direction of the scene was the issue. It was awkward.

Sara, totally agree!

Eli, yah, I give Renato a bit of a pass too but it's going to be hard with Sara now referring to him as "floppy fish crybaby"....(teeheeeheeee!)

J in O

I see Seve & Candela having big anvils heading their way in the end.

Candela's antics in the church is UNFORGIVEABLE, HORRIFIC, DEVIL INCARNATE.

Why don't Aldonza just agree to chat it out with Cris. She has spent most of the time running from him. Or better yet, how about a couple dates, kinda get to know each other dates. Certainly she can do this, she'll drop everything for her buddy Renato when he needs some emotional support, least she could do is go bowling, puttputt golf or movies or something. Both may find there's not anything there. Gawd, the number of boys made my knees weak one week and a head scratcher the next!

Now I feel sort of bad about the floppy fish crybaby comment.

Renato(character) gets a pass. Horacio Pancheri(actor) does not.

tofie-Right on!! Cris and Aldonza need to at least go on a date.

Honestly you guys, I'd rather Aldi not end up with Cris, the history with their parents is awful but the rape sealed the deal for me.

I'll sit at that table with you, Eli.

They could have made most of the episode about Renato without serving up a floppy fish crybaby. It went on and on and on and on and could be the actor doesn't do distraught well or he's really 8 not mid 20's. Say one thing for him, the boy sure got a deep bench of support.

"Aldonza still has Cande as her suegra. Eek!"

doris-I really thought I had responded to this. Or did I and I've already forgotten.

Cande is not redeemable, but she's not done anything warranting death, either. Or is she redeemable. You're so right, doris. Because even if Aldonza and Cris do figure out how to overcome what his dad did who would want Cande as a mother in law? At least Pru is entertaining.

"...he's really 8...."

You win, tofie. That's exactly how he looked. Like an 8 year old who didn't get his toy.

Well if we're talking about 8 year olds, wish Lola would stop acting like she was 8 too. Last night was the first time I was wondering why she and Aldonza were still friends. Not that Lola is a bad person, she just stuck out like a sore thumb against the backdrop of young professionals. She had to feel outta place.

Again, I go off to work, there are 60 comments, come back 4 hours later and there's 120.

I didn't mind Renato's crying. He's sad his mom died. But I was shocked at how quickly they had a service for her and Aldonza can get back home now.

I didn't see the chemistry between Lola and Pato. She acted too uneducated for him. I can't see how they would have anything to talk about if they went out.

tofie - Why don't Aldonza just agree to chat it out with Cris.

I don't think she wants to at this point. There's A LOT she'd have to face if she did that, both in the public eye and within herself. I think Aldie thinks that if she can ignore the feelings, or push them to the side for now, they'll go away on their own. Or they won't, but she recognizes that that doesn't have to change anything, the same as with a past abusive relationship. Even if you love that person, maybe they're no good for you. She hasn't sought Cris out, she had accepted that he was getting married and seemed ready to focus on sus planes instead.

Aldonza could put the whole Cris thing easily behind her for good if they had a conversation. She has spent more time strolling around town with Renato in one evening than all their time combined. She thinks she is hopelessly in love with a guy she doesn't know. They don't have to discuss feelings, talk about the weather, maybe she finds out they cannot agree and argue about if it is partly sunny or partly cloudy and it ends right there.

The problem with paying attention to action vs. words and Cris saying that Aldonza's lips were saying "yes" is that after what happened yesterday, Valeria can say the same of him...they kissed, he pushed her away and said it wasn't happening, and what's she doing--going after him anyway. Same thing with Mari--she could "feel" Emmanuel kissing her back, so now she's acting like she's entitled to do anything and everything to get him to be with her, even though he's told her that he's not interested in her that way. At least we know that Cris isn't a psycho, but it still bothers me that he's not respecting her words, the same way that Val's not respecting his words and Mari isn't respecting Emmanuel's words. I don't want my Galan acting like one of the Mean Girls!

Even if Aldonza *does* want him, I think that's one of the other themes of the show--"Just because I want you doesn't mean I have to go there." We have that with Aldonza towards Cris; Lola towards Emmanuel; Adelina and Joaquin maybe?; Candela towards Sev.

Didn't Aldonza already pay for one year in advance? That's why she is fixing it up. Right?
the gringo

Hello everyone!

Finally a novela we an hang our sombreros on, La Sombra! Thanks Doris for the heads up on this one!

On the bright side, Cynthia Klitbo brings so much warmth to a character, she is a joy to watch, and yes, what in heaven’s name was her “dead battery” (ha!) scene coat made of?

Does anyone else think Chris is channeling the old Amor Real, Fernando Colunga, character, Manuel, smoldering and FORCEFUL? I’m seeing it a little.

Sara, your recap was fantastic. It brought light on the confusing (for a country mouse like myself) pasante/pinche conversation. Thanks!

Sandy in TN

Yep. And she paid it with a check, too, so there's a paper trail.

Gringo, she did, but Sev's lawyer told him that if she's not living there yet, Hum could break the contract he had with her and rent it to someone else.

The rental contract can be broken IF, before Aldonza takes possession, Humberto returns her money and pays a penalty on top of that. HOWEVER, she has to agree to it. Severiano has no idea the depths to which she is determined to keep the place. He thinks money will do the trick. Also, she doesn't live there yet, but she HAS taken possession ... cleaning, painting, fixing it up,etc ... even a newbie lawyer like Renato can point that out to Seve's mad dog lawyer, que no?

Anon, I didn't hear the part about her having to agree to it. I might go back and rewatch it.

I hadn't considered that fixing the place up would count as "taking possession." I guess Sev didn't, either, or he would have mentioned it to his buddy! Well, won't that be fun watching the resulting fit of rage after Renato points it out!

Hi Sandy in TN.

So nice to "see" you again.

I liked your comment about Cris. He is quieter and seems more introspective than many galans and his scenes with Aldonza do certainly sizzle (AR a good comparison).

Kat, -"Just because I want you doesn't mean I have to go there." We have that with Aldonza towards Cris; Lola towards Emmanuel; Adelina and Joaquin maybe?; Candela towards Sev". Another amazing comment from you.

Diana

Anon 5:14 - that makes sense that she would have to agree, otherwise, how can he return the money if she doesn't want it back?

I rewatched that scene, and didn't catch that Aldonza has to agree to it first. He just said before she takes possession of it. And that Humberto would have to pay a penalty if he breaks the contract.

To the commenter who said that it would be nice if Simoneta and Aldonza eventually join forces, I agree. Simoneta is giving her soul to Sev and getting nothing in return, climbing out of a moral ditch to walk on the high side would be a joy to watch...

Hello Diana, I have missed your clear, reasoned voice!

Thanks, Diana. I have my moments :P

If Simoneta does turn out to be Lola's mom and Lola doesn't reject her outright, she'll end up joining the extended family. Like a second aunt for Aldonza. Only she'd be more the devil-on-the-shoulder, "Let's bring him DOWN!" aunt while Adelina is covering her eyes trying not to watch.

Did they say that she has to be physically in the house or it can be taken from her even though she paid a year in advance ?

Sandy...awww...Amor Real , my second favorite tn. Manuel could be a very abusive, nasty guy in so many ways. I felt guilty loving him. He treated Matilde horribly , but he was loving and kind at other times...and so sexy and romantic at those times. He was a very flawed galan...dark, brooding, and hottempered. Part of that was the time period....a time when men were the bosses...very Rhett Butler. They call Amir Real the Mexican Gone with these Wind. Oh Manuel.

Amir????? Thanks tablet...Amor

I guess it depends on what "take possession" means. She has a key and a signed contract. She paid a year's rent. As Anon said, she's started fixing it up. What does it really mean to "move in"? Does she have to sleep there for one night? Just unpack a suitcase?

To me, I think they're not "moved in" until somebody spend's the night. But for the purposes of the story, I would much rather consider them as having legally moved in once they had the keys and started cleaning.

To me, if she has all her stuff there, but she hadn't slept there, I would consider that moved in. Since the place is still furnished, and all she probably has are her clothes to bring, not sure she's moved in yet.

It may be a moot point because I don't think Humberto is going to agree to rent it to anyone else, but OF COURSE Aldonza has to agree! He signed the document, he took the check, he gave her the keys - it's HER place now. Any court would make him stick to the contract if she doesn't want to dissolve it ... but then, perhaps not the Fifth Circuit Court of Telenovelaland!

Sara! My dear! I was trying to read the comments before I made my comment but whoa! Too many! Excellent as usual, Sara! I am able to lower the Naughty Melon catalog from my face as I sit at his table. Phew! That was close! Cris's family is full of hypocrisy but that would have been a massive one if he had fallen for Val's cheap trick. They would have had to have brought preganancy into as well. I hope they are far enough away from their dalliance in Spain that even if she let's Lardo nail her, the math wouldn't work out. And speaking further of hypocrisy, I was shocked at Pru's shameless display! I would think (and it's still not too late) that somehow she would encounter Renato's dad and start an affair with him or something.

Oh well, I guess we'll find out today where they go with this. Thanks again!

cathyx "Since the place is still furnished, and all she probably has are her clothes to bring, not sure she's moved in yet." Thank you for bringing that up! It reminded me that I've been wondering what else was left in the house. They left in a hurry, but there was a whole house full of stuff. I wonder if they sent someone to pack up the rest later and ship it to them. No one else ever moved in there, so I guess it's possible that there are still personal items lurking about. Or maybe I'm just hoping for anything that might spark a Roberta flashback :D

"perhaps not the Fifth Circuit Court of Telenovelaland!"--Ha!

Lila, I am not opposed to a Pru and Renato's Dad affair. Bring it!

Running by real quick. It's Daredevil weekend at our house and hubs will be monopolizing the TV.

Loving the comments and it's nice to see you again Sandy in TN.

hi guys I'm kinda new to this one but I got a question, why does cande hate aldonza so much I could see if s

he was having an affair with her husband but that was her mother that did that. it's like it's her mission hate this girl and to ruin her life. maybe she was in love with Roberta's husband and roberta married him while she was in love with him, and she got stuck with Sev. which would explain why she's so mean. we'll see what happens after the shooting monday. did Val tell them to shoot up that house, did he know someone is in there? well when he went and told sev what he done sev slap the crap out of him. probly because it would ruin his plans.well we'll see Monday.

Hi Nina!

Why does Cande hate Aldonza so much...pretty much what you said. Plus, if Cris ends up with her and they have kids, then her grandchildren would also be grandchildren of the woman who (maybe) stole Ray AND slept with Sev, so they'd be a constant reminder. And that seems to be pretty much what Cande's holding out for now that her marriage is crap--to see her son get married to a nice, respectable girl and get some grandchildren to manipulate...er, spoil.

Come join us on the Friday recap! http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2015/04/la-sombra-del-pasado-39-friday-4-10-15.html I think the answers to your other questions are there.

Val respectable hahaha!!!! oh so glad chris came to his senses. Sev is no prize either. aldonza should really get tired of people slapping her. she should turn their other cheek. and the next time sev trys to kiss her she should come up in the middle with her knee.:-)

Nina!
