La Sombra del Pasado #39 Friday 4-10-15 BREAKING NOW: DRIVE BY IN SANTA LUCIA! Story at 11.

<<R  Simoneta promising to be a good little mistress.  At Sev's request, she will try to make Humberto a rental offer on the Alcocer house that he can’t refuse!

F>>Pru practices her cougar skills on Lardo’s equally useless friend, Tomas.  He’s willing to play gigolo to her cougar, her being married is no obstacle until he learns she is the wife of Dr. Zapata and Santa Lucita es buen chiquita!  (too small and everybody knows everything)  He strokes her ego as he kisses her hand:  he didn’t know Doctorcito had such good taste!  Pru leans against the hood of her car, heaves a big sigh and gives Tomas a twinkly finger wave as he drives away.

Over at the Alcocer place Padre accompanies Adelina as she makes some finishing touches .  Uh oh!  Adelina discovers Aldonza’s pistol as she is putting away some clothes!  Neither she nor Padre J like it one bit!

Aldonza is picking Renato up some coffee for Renato at the (funeral home?) cafeteria when Gaby, standing behind her, corrects the order Aldonza has just given the clerk.  This is a lead in for Gaby to tell Aldonza that she and Renato were going together until recently but they broke up.  Say it with me now, because of Aldonza!  [Hoo boy, she may not wear twirly skirts but Donnie’s got Roberta’s dude magnet gene!]  Gaby tells her that Renato is in love with her and she doesn’t know if it’s mutual, she just doesn’t want Aldonza to hurt him because he’s very emotionally vulnerable right now.

Pru has returned from her little dinner with Cande.  She sits down at the dressing table, Hum is in bed reading.  Hum says he just can’t see how Cande is so composed after the major scandal she provoked in the church.  Hum says several of his patients asked him if Cande was mentally unstable because only a crazy (desquiciada) person would do what she did!  Pru is regarding her image in the mirror with different eyes, eyes of longing, eyes which wonder if she’s still hot.  Pru not only sees her image now, but relives the waves of passion that swept over her during her little encounter with Tomas.  Humberto’s voice distorts into echoes until finally she hears him again.  Is she listening to him?  Yes, well, she’s going to take a bath:  she’s feeling very hot.  Funny, Hum’s not warm.  She’s in heat, Hum.

And so is Valeria.  She and Lardo are parked in an alley of sorts, it is night.  Lardo reminds her she didn’t keep her promise to give him a little leg for his work to “distract” Aldonza.  Well, the flowers didn’t work but if he helps her this time, she will fulfill her promise.  Lardo says he’s an asshole (well, I said it), but he’s not a killer.  Nah, Vale just wants to give her a good scare that will get rid of that wench once and for all!  Val begins payment right away, sucking Lardo’s face.  A lot.  Lardo won’t tell her what he’s going to do but he’s going to give her a scare she won’t ever forget and she’ll git outta Dodge in a hurry!  They grin and get back to slurping.
Adelina calls Aldonza.  We see her in the background while in the foreground Renato is draped over his Mama’s casket, quietly crying.  Aldonza takes the call right there.  [Rude much?]  Adelina and Padre learn of Renato’s Mama’s death and offer their condolences but that doesn’t stop Adelina from telling Aldonza for both of them that they are shocked and upset about the pistol she has!  Aldonza tells them Renato gave it to her for protection because the house was so isolated.  Padre loudly adds in the background that he is NOT in agreement with it!  Aldonza will talk to them later!  They hang up.

Over at Las Animas Cande flows into Cris’s room where he sits on his bed studying his horse breeding book.  Sev has told her that Cris is staying.  What happened to his desire to be independent and all that other stuff he was talking about?  Well, he has discovered that he actually likes working on the ranch and it’s foolish just to give that up for pride.  Cande is not fooled:  he’s here for Aldonza.  Cris says yes, that’s one of the reasons.  He’s going to get her back.  Cande wants to know what did she tell him to make him change his plans overnight.  Cris tells her Aldonza told him nothing and he’ll tell her like he told Vale:  Aldonza wants nothing to do with him but he’s going to do all in his power to change that!  AND. . .AND he warns her that she had better not attack Aldonza ever again!  He’s not going to permit it!  Aldonza has done nothing to warrant her aggression or his stubborn resolve to win her back because, he repeats, she wants nothing with him.

“You do not tell me what I can do and what I can’t do!  I’m your mother!”

“And I’m your son and we both assumed these roles on the same day and the same hour but that does not give you the right to tell me how to live my life or to hurt the woman I love!”

“Let me just tell you one thing:  Aldonza Alcocer is going to be your downfall and you’re going to rue the day you left Valeria for her!”

“Maybe so, but that will be MY responsibility, not yours!”

His new spine firmly in place, Cris leaves his room and leaves the house, refusing to tell Cande where he’s going.  He’s fed up!  Cande tries hurling charges of his being rude at his back to no avail.  Cande gets right on the phone to call Sev who has just, uh, visited Simoneta.  Simoneta is nearly giddy that soon she’ll move into the house he just rented for her.  Sev tells buzz kill Cande that they will discuss what to do about naughty Cris when he gets home.  Simoneta is in the background sitting up in bed modestly clad in a fiery red dressing gown.  She smirks and rolls her eyes listening to Sev’s side of the conversation.  [For someone who doesn’t give a fig about Sev, Cande seems to have a sixth sense for when he is about to or has gotten his ashes hauled.]

Pru has cooled down, she and Hum wonder where Valeria is.  Pru has been blowing up her phone with no response.  She verbally lashes out at Cristobal as the cause of Valeria being the laughing stock of all Santa Lucia!  She goes off to bed, Hum is going to wait down stairs for her return.

Now, just in case you good folks don’t want to believe what just happened in that parked car, Lardo lights up a cigarette while Vale puts her clothes back in place and freshens her lip gloss.  Like Dunkin Donuts, Lardo says “It’s worth the trip, dude.”  Once again Lardo says he’s got a great idea that will run Aldonza out of town and never come back and for Vale’s own good, he won’t tell her; she’ll find out.

Ah, here’s E-man in the local canteen.  Can’t tell if he’s drinking but he is wallowing in missing Lola and rewinding the kiss in the stables while Dominga’s words echo in his head:  if what he feels is real, he will seek Lola out and beg her pardon as many times as it takes for her to forgive him.  Cris comes in with a half-eaten something or other, sits down at the table with E-man and orders tequila.  The cantina is a good place to think.   Cris asks what happened to his feelings for Vale?  [Weird question]  Well, he realizes she was not the girl for him.  Cris jokes that E-man likes girls that are forbidden to him:  Melesio forbade him to see Lola, right?  They laugh.  E-man says seriously, he is looking for love and he knows he's never really had it.

Back to the funeral home. The service is over and perhaps the family and friends of Renato’s Mama are waiting to go to the cemetery.  Anyway, Aldonza sits with Renato and strangely now the girl who earlier told Aldonza she and Renato used to go together is being called Silvia?  Silvia is sitting in the same room watching their every move with a solemn face and I don’t think it’s all about the dearly departed.  Aldonza tells Renato that Silvia told her the two of them were dating for a while.  Renato says that’s true; it didn’t work.  Aldonza looks uncomfortable and keeps glancing at Silvia whose steady gaze is unnerving.  Renato says he sees Silvia as a friend, in part, thanks to Aldonza.  Renato says it doesn’t make sense to hide it any longer:  he is completely in love with her.  Aldonza turns and looks at Sylvia who meets her gaze with a sad but piercing stare.  Awwwky!  Aldonza doesn’t know what to say.  Renato reassures her she doesn’t have to say anything.  He knows that she doesn’t want anything with any man right now and he respects that.  He doesn’t want to pressure her nor does he want her to think he’s taking advantage of this emotional time and the death of his mother or that he’s just sad; he just had to tell her, he was drowning from not confessing his feelings.  Aldonza tenderly strokes Renato’s face and Silvia hasn’t taken her eyes away for one minute.

Now, just in case you good folks didn’t get that scene, Aldonza and Renato fade to the background while Lola and Pato have an earnest conversation in the foreground about the complicated quadratic love equation that needs to be solved.  Lola thinks everybody is in love with someone they shouldn’t be:  Sylvia with Renato, Renato with Aldonza and Aldonza with someone she shouldn’t be involved with.  Who?  Pato asks.  Well, it’s her “Principe Azul” but his parents have such a strangle hold on him he really should be called “Principe Morado” (Purple, as in asphyxiated).  Lola and Pato discuss how ardently Renato and Cris love Aldonza and how each man will fight to win her love.  Lola and Pato each think their respective buds, Cris and Renato are the better man, each is more determined and will persist until they win her!

E-man and Cris continue sharing their woes.  E-man finds out Cris is there to escape mama drama:  she wants to control his life, wants him to live according to what’s most convenient for her.  Yes, it has to do with Valeria but his mom can’t seem to understand he is not a child and he has the right to make his own decisions.  In this case, E-man offers, the decision is named Aldonza.  Cris agrees and vows that even though he knows it will be difficult, he’s going to win her love again.  Oh, how he wishes he was with her right now, to see her, caress her, tell her everything he feels.  Cris tries to get her cell phone number from E-man but he won’t give it up and counsels Cris not to pressure Aldonza, be patient and wait until she comes back.  E-man says if he calls now he will seem desperate.  Cris answers that he IS desperate!  E-man says desperation is not going to make anyone fall in love with you.  Cris is insistent about what he feels:  the thought of Aldonza with Renato makes his blood boil!  E-man says if he really loves her he needs to chill!  Cris is on a roll:  He knows what Aldonza feels for him, even though she won’t say it.  He is afraid that if she begins to feel something for Renato, if she gives him a chance, he may have lost her forever.

We have a brief scene at the dinner table with Uriel, Irma and Mari.  Mari has recently taken a shine to the culinary arts and prepared dinner today.  The parental units wonder where there other spawn is and Uriel decries the friendship with Tomas as if they don’t know the two are cut from the same cloth.  This transitions us to see the two aged juvenile delinquents walking somewhere this night along the streets of Santa Lucia.  Lardo recruits Tomas for his job at Aldonza’s house.

Back at the funeral home Aldonza and Lola prepare to leave for the cemetery.  In what is a sweet touch, the sensitive Renato has sought solace at the side of their (probably lifelong) house keeper.  Lola and Aldonza greet her, Sylvia and Renato’s dad as they leave.  [I think Renato’s style of embracing is to rest his head right in the crook of the neck of the hugee, even if he has to bend down to do so which gives him the “floppy fish” appearance and posture.  He’s just a big ol’ sensitive Raggedy Andy, he is!  But I betcha he’s gonna fight like a Transformer for Aldonza!]

Vale arrives home with a mouth full of lies about having gone out for coffee with Mari.  Humberto and Pru have been waiting, Pru apparently has been marinating in her special sauce all this time.  Stick a fork in her, she’s done!  Anyway Humberto wants to know what took so long.  Well, she and Mari went walking around town and she decided to stop into a church, she passed along the way, she got down on her knees, and she began to pray. . . . Well, she didn’t pray but she should because this whole story is one big, fat, lie!  Pru is coming out of an exaggerated sympathetic bag like the inebriated often do, hugging and kissing her poor wittle darling!  They were just worried; they want her to know that they are always here for her.  Val excuses herself; she is tired and is going to bed.  Humberto gives Pru a look of “drunk again” and Pru answers with a wobbly “Que!”  [This woman has this role down pat!]

Aldonza and Lola arrive at her D.F. apartment.  Lola is impressed but doesn’t waste time admiring Aldonza’s digs but rather tells Aldonza right away that Renato is in love with her.  Aldonza answers that she knows while she looks absently at a photo, probably of her mom.   Aldonza says Renato himself told her.  Lola’s a persistent cuss and Aldonza admits to her that for the first time when he professed his feelings, it moved her a little.

Abelardo should star in a tv show called, “Have asshole, Will Travel.”  That’s what he and Tomas have done.  They pull up outside the Alcocer house, get out, Lardo aims and indiscriminately fires about twenty shots into the house!  Adelina and Padre J hit the floor as lights and flowers and fixtures explode around them.  After the volley of shots stop Padre gathers a blubbering Adelina off the floor, turns out the light and announces that he’s going to file a police report right now!

The next morning Melesio goes to see Padre J.  In telling Padre how things are going at Las Animas, Mele tells him he can imagine what with the break up of Cris and Vale.  As a matter of fact he feels somewhat responsible for that happening.  How so?  He feels he pushed Cris to break up with Vale.  One day Cris needed to get something off his chest and he, Melesio, told him he didn’t feel he was in love, that he needed to follow his heart.  Mele feels if Sev finds out, he could lose his job.  Padre thinks Cris’s decision could be the best for him if he’s not sure.  Padre gets down to brass tacks.  He asked Mele to come by to ask him to stop by the Alcocer place from time to time as he knows he’s often out that way with the horses.  He’s happy to but what is worrying Padre?  Well, he thinks that Sev has hurt his niece.   Just yesterday some people shot up the house that used to belong to Roberta!

Adelina frantically tries to reach Aldonza by phone but keeps getting an out of area recording.  Finally Renato’s Mama is being laid to rest.  Aldonza and Sylvia flank Renato.  Renato grasps Aldonza’s hand and she smiles gently at him while Sylvia leans her head on his shoulder and he momentarily rests his cheek against her head.  Aldonza’s eyes mildly blaze with jealousy.

Dominga keeps her word to Joaquin and pays Flavia a visit.  Flavia looks as relaxed as we’ve ever seen her and that uber cutie pie, Raimundo, plays with toy cars near where Flavia and Dominga share a cup of coffee.  Dominga is direct, but respectful and tender as she reassures Flavia that she has nothing to worry about from Adelina.  Adelina is incapable of taking anyone’s husband:  all she has done all her life is take care of her niece.  Jealousy is a traitor that never brings anything good.  The best thing she can do is to concentrate on taking care of her family.

Elsewhere this morning we are with Aldonza and Lola as Adelina finally reaches her and tells her about the terrifying drive by at the house the previous night.  Neither she nor Padre were hurt and they don’t know who did it but Adelina says Padre think Severiano gave the orders and Padre made a police report that very night!  Adelina was so afraid!  Aldonza’s eyes reflect the fear she hears in her Tia’s voice.

Ah!  He may not be a perfect galan, but Cris is mighty purty mounted on that beautiful piece of horse flesh, prancing around the coral!  Ah!  Don Mele stops him to chew the fat a little.  Mele tells him about the drive by at the Alcocer place.  Padre J told him all about it.  Nobody was hurt but good and scared, what a scare!  Cris asks if it’s known who did it and after some hesitation Mele tells him Padre thinks Sev could be behind it.

Proud brown noser and flunky, Lardo is about to get another title.  He gives Sev the completed rental contract and the keys.  Sev thinks Lardo is more useful than he had hoped for and promises him soon he’ll have other (dirty) work for him to do.  Full of himself, Lardo answers that he took the initiative and undertook some very special work.  What special work did he do, Sev asks.  Well, he just scared the shit out of certain people that he knows Sev is interested in running out of town.  Lardo tells him he fired shots into the house of “Senora Roberta” he’s sure those old hags are going to -------- PYE—YOW!  Sev slaps him with his almighty right hand and bestows upon him the title of IMBECILE!!  Sev digs him out good:  he is NOT to do anything that Sev doesn’t ask him to!  Stupid animal!  Now HE is going to be blamed for this!  Just so he doesn’t get a similar stupid idea, he lets Lardo know that if the police find out he was involved in shooting up the Alcocer house, he’s not going to do a damned thing for him!  “Now, get the hell out of here!”

Renato is showering in a pretty bathroom with a view when the phone rings.  Ummm, a little eye candy for some, perhaps.  His upper body has definition, not the grossly augmented musculature some find distasteful.  He grabs a towel and covers his imagined lower body.  It’s Aldonza.  She tells him she and Lola have to leave, the house was shot up last night.  She’s got to be with her aunt.  Aldonza dissuades Renato from following her:  he should stay with his dad; they will be fine, she will keep him posted.  She encourages him to call her if he needs anything.  Renato is worried about her in that house in the middle of nowhere.  What if those jerks return?  She reminds him that she has a guardian angel named Roberta who will not let anything happen to her.

Back at Las Animas, Cande comes in to find out what all the shouting was about and what happened with that deal he was closing last night?  Sev does not have time for Cande’s tone or bitchiness and lets her know.  He challenges her if she knows something, to say it to his face.  Cande ramps up from a hiss to a near scream telling him that she doesn’t know anything but if she finds out that he is (que me estas. . .)  Sounds like she’s saying if I find out that you’re, what, “cheating on me?”  At any rate and irate Cris barges in to the office and tells him Melesio told him that someone to shot up the Alcoer house and that Padre J is certain that he, Sev, is behind it!  “You (both of them) sent someone to terrorize Aldonza and her family!”

Aaaaand, CUT!

Hey, y'all, there it is! I'm loving my Cris with his new spine! I'm not covering my face at his table!

So now Aldonza thinks Renato registers on her Richter scale? Leave that boy alone! You know you gon' be with Cris! Man, that Gaby or Sylvia, the way she was staring she looks like she could go dark in a minute!

And what's with Pru? Mid-life crisis? She seemed pretty into her old man in earlier eps, why in the world would she risk her reputation by gallivanting with some loser young enough to be her son? Weird.

Oh well, have at it y'all. Amusing episode. As I said, loving my Cris standing up to the mumma from hell but this is just the beginning!

Gracias tanto, Lila! Great recap!

I don't know if she's Gaby or Sylvia or who she is. At least she did the "true love" thing and said "Just don't hurt him." So maybe, yeah, we're getting set up for it to be her and Renato at the end.

I loved "Hoo boy, she may not wear twirly skirts but Donnie’s got Roberta’s dude magnet gene!"

"Aldonza takes the call right there. [Rude much?]" Yes! As was the little gossip-fest between Lola and her Ganso and Aldonza asking Ren if he and the girl with multiple names really used to date, and Ren telling her he luuuuuuuurves her. Perrrrrrrrrrdon! How about a little respect for la pobre de mama Julia!

"Abelardo should star in a tv show called, 'Have asshole, Will Travel.'" Will there be actual traveling? Because I would really like him to go far, far away from here.

"Well, she and Mari went walking around town and she decided to stop into a church, she passed along the way, she got down on her knees, and she began to pray. . . ." Ha! Love it!

"She reminds him that she has a guardian angel named Roberta who will not let anything happen to her." Oh, there's no doubt Roberta, and maybe even Ray, are keeping an eye out for Aldonza, but geeze Louise--don't make them work so hard!

The final scene with Cris confronting his parents makes me think Cande is kind of SOL...what's she supposed to say to him? "I would never!" I think once you've interrupted somebody's funeral mass, smacked her daughter around, and tried to dump her ashes on the floor it gets a little more difficult to play innocent. Plus Sev told Cris that whole store about why he thinks El Santuario is his and how he's determined to get it back. Yeah, they're both looking pretty damn suspicious.

Hey, you know what? Thanks for that, Lardo!

*story

Renato, forget Gaby/Sylvia/Aldonza/Whoever else, I'll love you! You chiseled rubio god, you.

I'm happy for Cris and his spine, I've seen far too many jellyfish galans (*cough-cough* Pablo Negrete). It's kinda hilarious how Pru and Valeria have similar taste in men, what with Valeria giving Bert nookie and Pru getting her groove back with Tomas. And Bert and Tomas are pretty much the same character.

Cassandra G.

Thanks for this, Lila! I'm drinking my coffee and watching the episode. I just checked the recap and I see we are both scratching our heads about Gaby/Sylvia. I promise the CCs said Gaby last night, but suddenly she's Sylvia. Whatever.

And totally rude to answer that phone.

Back later with more thanks and praise.

Hey, thanks, Lila. This was just totally cool and insightful.

I think Aldonza having Roberta's dude magnet gene has a lot to do with the way she fills out a pair of tight leggings.

"..the cantina is a good place to think." Yeah, if you're invisible and are wearing beer goggles. I don't think either Newton or Einstein came up with any of their ideas in a cantina.

About PJ and Adelina's reaction to the pistol. In my lifetime, the Church has always been squeamish about killing. They translate the relevant Commandment as "Thou shalt not kill," while the original Hebrew says "Lo tiertzach," or "No murder," two very different things. (Sara, feel free to correct me if I've gone off the rails here!) At church in the general prayer, we pray for "the safety of those serving in the armed forces." Well, the safety of those serving in the armed forces involves killing enemy troops who fully intend to kill YOU. And this is not just some theoretical or philosophical concept for me. When my oldest son was in Iraq the first time, he got into gunfights on two occasions, and each time came out as the sole survivor.

Tomas is such a good pistol shot that he can hit a house. Better watch yourself, Tomas, Aldonza can hit a bottle at 50 feet.

Thanks again, Lila. This was so entertaining.

David

Lila, simply superb. Your recounting the delicious details was masterful. As always.

"He strokes her ego as he kisses her hand", "twinkly finger wave", "Hoo boy, she may not wear twirly skirts but Donnie’s got Roberta’s dude magnet gene!" and "Pru apparently has been marinating in her special sauce all this time" were among so many favorites too numerous to mention.

Cris finally gets assertive and determined. I like his new attitude and astute observations including Em seems to want any woman “forbidden” to him or out of his reach. Whatever food prop he held was wasted as he picked at it with birdlike indifference.

Cris is not the only one with insight: “Lola and Pato have an earnest conversation in the foreground about the complicated quadratic love equation that needs to be solved. Lola thinks everybody is in love with someone they shouldn’t be”. Yes, and the list is not limited to those she mentioned, is it?

There is a slight shift in the universe “Aldonza’s eyes mildly blaze with jealousy”. Ahhh. I loved that little spark. While I believe what she feels for Cris is rooted in the past, this new, budding emotion is seeped in the present.

I admit I want Renato to give Cris a good run for his money. I have nothing I haven’t liked – strength, dignity and a steadfast, unyielding loyalty. And frankly? That shower scene didn't hurt either - "chisled Rubio God" indeed Cassandra.

We haven’t seen Renato’s father shed a tear have we? I am not about forgive him for not only cheating on what appeared to be a wonderful wife by having the affair with Roberta, but the way he spoke about her to Renato as though she was beneath him. I see no emotion, no depth. I am NOT a fan.

Kat "I think once you've interrupted somebody's funeral mass, smacked her daughter around, and tried to dump her ashes on the floor it gets a little more difficult to play innocent" was great. Anything that will get Cande in trouble with anyone is something I am staunchly behind.

Lila, gracias!

Diana

David, our comments crossed.

Your remarks about your son were so touching. I can't imagine what he went through but while regret his comrades were lost, glad that he survived. Not once, but twice. God bless.

Diana

Woops, Diana, sloppy language use on my part. Both of those shooting incidents were one on one events, almost like the wild West. When I said "sole survivor," I meant between the two of them. There were no American soldiers lost. He was fired upon, returned fire, and the incident was over.

David

Perfect start to my Saturday morning Lila. You rocked this recap.

"And I’m your son and we both assumed these roles on the same day and the same hour but that does not give you the right to tell me how to live my life or to hurt the woman I love!”

Thank you for the direct quote. I love this oh so much!

Oh, the galans in this TN make me feel like a tennis ball. One minute I'm so loving Renato, than Cris is getting his spine straightened. Dang guys!

And I swear the writers knew what we needed. Yesterday we ragged at them for so-so plot scenes, and then last night we get a shower scene,so yes, all is forgiven. Agree Lila, Renato to me cuts a perfect figure. Just the right amount of tone.

Not sure I was loving Lola getting all gossipy with Patricio. They do seem to be two peas in a pod personality wise. Thought it was rather interesting that in one day, she stands with her arm twined through his.

GaSy...hey, whoever you may be, I appreciated her honesty to Allie, but she is so being set up as Allie 2.0 for the ending. At least Renato won't go back to someone who is showing us temporary skanky behavior.

As for a resident jerks, all I kept thinking was the people who lived in the place with the windows overlooking the street sure got an eyeful. Smart move parking under a streetlight. Frankly, by the look of the two of them, that was a pretty lame encounter. And I'll add, I get a direct correlation now between Lardo smiling/talking and a nauseous feeling I get. Use to think I was eating and watching the show too fast. Sev slapping him up the head seemed to settle my stomach a bit. That boy should just get measured for his prison garb already.

And I understand Adelina lives for Allie, she knows more secrets than anyone should have to deal with, but I wish that the actress, or the writing, whatever it is, would ratchet down the shrillness of how she approaches Allie at times. I don't want to feel she's annoying, but that call about the gun, insisting on staying on the phone could have waited to later.

Wrong of me to have wanted to see Pru maybe have a little something with Tomas just to give us something fun to watch? And Cande is wondering if Sev is "cheating on her?" They have a marriage in name only, and she would be shocked if he was? That was a beanie moment for me.

Daisynjay

Another assassination attempt on the Alcoer family again?

Sev & Candela are really trying to exterminate the entire family!

If I'm Aldonza, I'd leave the country NOW!

"Hoo boy, she may not wear twirly skirts but Donnie’s got Roberta’s dude magnet gene!"

WORD.

Now this line....

"I think Renato’s style of embracing is to rest his head right in the crook of the neck of the hugee, even if he has to bend down to do so which gives him the 'floppy fish' appearance and posture."

YES!! OMG I am almost creeped out because that is EXACTLY what I thought when I watched. He was doing find until he hugged Aldonza and I was like "Dammit Horacio! You're floppy fishing again!"

He made up for it when he took a shower though. That fish looks good out of water.

Except, Steve that Sev and Cande had nothing to do with it. Did you watch the episode? Did you read the recap?

Oh, David. You are correct. "Do not murder." NOT "do not kill."

"We haven’t seen Renato’s father shed a tear have we? "

Just seeing your comment Diana. I thought it was me wondering the way that was being played, but you're right. He's been rather aloof through the whole thing, more there for his son than any really regret or sadness himself over the loss. The comparison of loveless and good marriages seems to be a theme.

Daisynjay

I am going to defend Renato's dad. He is a doctor. I surgeon, right? I'm sure he is very good at hiding his emotions and for his own sanity may be keeping himself aloof and thinking like a doctor/clinically so he doesn't loose it completely.

My husband reacted similarly when his father died. He felt he had to "keep it together" for his sister and mother. He never even lost it in front of me, but did confess he had in private.

Maybe dad feels he needs to "keep it together" for Renato.

Ay, which Daisynjay just said. Comments crossed. Sorry! I try to read everyone's comments and not repeat (I usually fail.)

Lila...It is a great morning. The sun is shining brightly, and I have your wonderful recap to read.

Wow, this show just keeps moving along.

It was terrifying when Dumb was shooting randomly into the house as Dumber encouraged him. Their laughter was maddening.

David, my only son died the day after he was born, but I cannot even imagine the angst of having a son in the military in the line of fire.

On a lighter note, I agree with David that those leggings are magnetized. They seem to be Al's signature look just like the leading lady in LM favored those short, tightytight dresses.Hey, if you got it, flaunt it.

Well, Val decided parking in an alley with Lardo was a good way to rebuild her lagging confidence after the seduction of Cris failed. That was a small car so they both must be pretty nimble and flexible. Kudos..I am impressed...not.

I agree that the younguns' various behaviors at the funeral was disrespectful . Technology is not a friend of manners. Do not get me started on students texting in class while I am teaching. I am looking at you Kosta and Juan Pablo.

Technology is not a friend of manners.

I want this as a poster for my classroom!!!

Do not get me started on students texting in class while I am teaching. I am looking at you Kosta and Juan Pablo.

Jeez! I had a student actually TAKE A SELFIE while I was teaching!!!

I think I am more offended that they think/act like I don't notice or that I am too stupid to notice.

And Susanlynn-
How sad to hear about your son.

Sara...Yes, it is frustrating having people looking at their cellphones when you are trying to teach. I always call on those students..hehheh..old teachers' ploy long before cellphones. ''Hey, Kosta, what do you think of that ?'' Or ''Juan Pablo, please read the next question.''. Heheh Selfies? Sometimes my students take photos of me to send..around the world to family and friends. It's a little scary.

Thank you, Sara. You have a kind heart. I have had a long time to heal, and I went on to have two wonderful daughters. I have an angel waiting for me.,

"I have an angel waiting for me."

That's beautiful.

That was fantastic, Lila! Thank you for an awesome recap.

Say it with me now, because of Aldonza! This line led me on the following tangent:
Ladies and gentleman, it's time for another episode of Because of Aldonza! Where the reason behind everyone's problems is-everyone together now-Aldonza Alcocer! Out of muffins at the cafe? Aldonza got the last one. Can't see the movie? Aldonza's too freaking tall. Is it raining? Aldonza's unbraiding her hair in DF led to a change in air pressure in SL and caused a thunderstorm.

They should have had the maid die, instead of the mom because the reactions to the death have been off: phone calls, joking, offering to head to SL, no tears or stunned, devastation? They hit a bad note here.

Val + Lardo = gross. Just gross. Sim and Sev didn't produce as much gagging as I suppressed for those two last night.Val just seems sloppy and Lardo is sleazy.

Well I finally understood how the Lagos family ended up the way it is: Last night they straight up said why don't we just think good thoughts and ignore what's really happening? Sound good? Okay! No wonder Lardo's off the rails and Mari's a (future?) stalker.

I think Cande mentioned before that (she at least suspects) that Sev has lovers/sees prostitutes. I think it would her her pride first to have it be confirmed, but also that if he can go there and return to the house in one night, he's brought the other woman to town, which was Sev's main concern when Sim arrived.

I think GaSy won last night's episode for being a stand up lady, whatever her name might be. She tried a relationship (cough* Cande *cough), it didn't work out, but she's working through the pain with class (cough* Lardo, Mari, Val, Cande, and yes, Cris and even Lola*). She's upfront with the "other woman" to minimize confusion (Aldonza, Mari La Descarada, Spineless Cris) and she's really looking out for her beloved's happiness (...so far) (cough* everyone on this show? minus Irma/Uriel and Dom/Mel)

Whoa. Wrote before reading everything.

Susanlynn and David - I'm so sorry I commented on the show before taking the time out to thank you for your personal stories. I'm so sorry you and your families had to suffer through those moments, but I'm glad that you've taken the good from them and loved all the more for them.

Thank you, Diva!

Yeah, what was all that chatter and phone call taking at the funeral about! Economy of logistics for shooting? Jeezopete!

In agreement with you about the guardian angel Roberta, Aldonza IS making them work too hard by taking unnecessary risks. Hell, coming back to SL seems an unnecessary risk!

I think once you've interrupted somebody's funeral mass, smacked her daughter around, and tried to dump her ashes on the floor it gets a little more difficult to play innocent Uh, AMEN!

Hey, Sara, I agree, I KNOW she was Gaby, too! Maybe her name is Sylvia Gabrielle! Whatever, indeed!
********
David, thank you! Hey, man! Love that we all have enjoyable visuals in this piece:

I think Aldonza having Roberta's dude magnet gene has a lot to do with the way she fills out a pair of tight leggings.
********
Thank you Diana! Yes, Cris DOES have a new attitude. He took Mele's talk to heart and like many of you said a few episodes back, Cande's vigorous protest against anyone even speaking Aldonza's name and her freak out in the Church just helped push Cris more to Donnie.

I admit I want Renato to give Cris a good run for his money. I have nothing I haven’t liked – strength, dignity and a steadfast, unyielding loyalty.

Yes, David. I cannot imagine war, don't want to imagine it. My (late) father and husband have both seen war. I understand the religious foundation for being against killing but I wonder what Padre's suggestion for Aldonza would be.

Well, I answered it before I finished typing. Both Padre and Adelina think she should NOT be in El Santuario!

Thank you, Daisy!

I get a direct correlation now between Lardo smiling/talking and a nauseous feeling I get. Use to think I was eating and watching the show too fast. Sev slapping him up the head seemed to settle my stomach a bit.

Hahahahahahaha! :D

You know, Daisy, I don't really know what Cande was getting upset about as Cris's entry interrupted her tirade. Any other ideas?

Sara! I noticed the floppy hugging thing yesterday but I didn't want to say anything because, as one of my friends said, to go from Mom has a headache to the ER with an aneurism to dying after emergency surgery, well, that would blow MY heart and mind!

BUT. . .he did it again and that is just his hugging style. Yeah. Shower scene was sweet and unexpected!

That fish looks good out of water. HA!

" I had a student actually TAKE A SELFIE while I was teaching!!!

I think I am more offended that they think/act like I don't notice or that I am too stupid to notice."

It's not that they think you don't notice..... it is just that they do not care, which is even more frightening/sad.

Thank you Susanlynn! So sorry for the loss of your son. It's a thing of the heart, unchanged by the passage of years. As we all are noting, everybody's style of grieving is different but there is NO excuse for those younguns' behavior at the funeral! Sheesh!

Technology is not a friend of manners. Great!
********

Thank you HellaShelle! Hey, HellaShelle, "Because of Aldonza!" could come on right before Lardo's show and I think I'll change the title to "Am Asshole, Will Travel".

So you think Cande is upsets because Sev "dates"? I hear what you say about her pride but, man, that's kinda nervy. Sev is enough of a hellion without him giving up sex, too! THAT would be scary!

Hee Hee and true, HellaShelle at 9:58!

Lila – thank you for the recap!
"Now, just in case you good folks don’t want to believe what just happened in that parked car, Lardo lights up a cigarette while Vale puts her clothes back in place and freshens her lip gloss. "
AND . . . valganos Dios! We on the Patio just KNOW Vile will end up preñada(because she does not deserve 'embarazada') after this and say it is Cris'.

”Lola thinks everybody is in love with someone they shouldn’t be”. Yes, and the list is not limited to those she mentioned, is it?
A very astute observation, Diana.

”I think once you've interrupted somebody's funeral mass, smacked her daughter around, and tried to dump her ashes on the floor it gets a little more difficult to play innocent”
Spot on!

"Hoo boy, she may not wear twirly skirts but Donnie’s got Roberta’s dude magnet gene!"
WORD UP!

Cris seems to be growing a spine…. or some cojones. I’ll sit at his table on the Patio, but will wear a bag over my head for now. More evidence is needed before I take it off.

susanlynn, I teared up today thinking of your son. And all of you.

I'll echo Sara's heartfelt emotions for your having your little angel awaiting you.

Diana

Thank you, Doris!

We on the Patio just KNOW Vile will end up preñada(because she does not deserve 'embarazada') after this and say it is Cris'.

She so could Doris but we soooo don't want that. I'm hoping that Cris knows too much time has passed since they last slept together for the spawn to be his. For him to cave in to a fake knocked up claim and marry her will be like a spine extraction.

NOOOOOOOOO!

If Vile ends up preñada and blames Cris, I will be ordering muchos laza Nerfazos from MetaMart, and lanzando them at my TV screen.

You guys, sadly, Cris and Val have probably done the deed within the last month. They were engaged and they've only been home for a week or two.

What would be amazing is if Val and Lardo gave each other STIs and Hum and/or Dr. G figured it out because of their symptoms.

Figuring out the time flow in these things is difficult for me. I'm sorry, I can't say it enough: I do not want a tired pregnancy story!

Hey guys. If the unthinkable (above) happens and Donnie decides to give Renato a chance, do you think they'll "let" Aldonza sleep with him? In the writer's mind maybe she's already "spoiled", so what's a little voluntary sex with a man she thinks she's in love with after what already happened to her? For the writers, once again, the Red Dress could be about more than aesthetics.

I am going to hold out hope that we will not get the pregnancy story line.

Ugh but a thought just popped into my head... Maybe that's why Vile was willing to "pay in advance." She was actually hoping to get pregnant. Oh please let it be just because she was horny.

" If the unthinkable (above) happens and Donnie decides to give Renato a chance, do you think they'll "let" Aldonza sleep with him?"
Highly unlikely. Telenovela rules dictate that the protagonista be a virgin (the prev. rape would not count), although this rule is often broken. It's a cr@pshoot.

Interesting that they would let the rule be broken by a rape. I guess consensual sex with a chosen rival (vs. a previous relationship or marriage) would make the protagonista seem "loose", cause, as we know, only bad girls "like it."

Lila, this was so good!

"Pru is regarding her image in the mirror with different eyes, eyes of longing, eyes which wonder if she’s still hot"

I'm not surprised Aldonza is feeling Renato a bit, hell they act like a couple that's been together for years. What I thought weird a few days ago was Aldonza, kissing Cris so passionately and then telling Renato and PJ she loved him. Cris is mistaken if he thinks he has an inside cause he don't. The first person Aldonza speaks to in the morning and the last one at night is Renato. She will drop everything to hop a bus to be with the guy so if they don't screw it's because their parts don't work.

Something is bugging me about Aldonza and can't quite put my finger on it. What is she? A willful independent woman to be reckoned with or the fragile, mistreated, deer in the headlights, waif she appears to be most of the time and makes her attractive to those boys that want to save her.

In PSMA the father of Esteban (funny but it was Pablo Lyle) woo'ed and bedded his virgin fiancee Aranza(funny but it was Thelma M). She broke up with him, and gave herself willingly. It was much later everyone found out the man she slept with, lost her virginity to and broke off the engagement for was the father. Esteban still wanted her back despite this but to Aranza's credit she was more than a bit weirded out.

Thank you Lila, terrific job. What on earth would Tomas see in Pru? Is this town so small there's not one single younger woman he can turn his attentions to?

It looks like Aldonza is going to play Renato for a while. She's going to be unsure how she feels about him while she strings him along and at the same time reminiscing about her kiss 1.0 and 2.0 with Cris. And speaking of Renato, some men can pull off the fashion beard and some can't. He's definitely in the can't group. Please shave.

My boy Abelardo is inadvertently helping Aldonza. Now Sev is being blamed for it, I love it.

What was that about the rental agreement and keys that Abelardo gave Sev? We never saw Simoneta talking to Humberto. What is going on?

Susanlynn and David...virtual hugs to both of you. Thank you for sharing your stories.

So was re-watching some of the shoot em up scenes this morning since I wasn't focused when that ran last night. But right before that when Ade and Padre are finding the gun, it suddenly struck me, oh crap, their finger prints are all over that thing now. Maybe I watch too many TN's....

I don't know if I think Allie will "play" Renato. In her mind, yes, she admits to loving Cris, but she truly feels there isn't a chance in you know where for them to be together. I do believe she's trying to allow herself to move on. Now will it suck that end game will most likely be Cris and we see a nice guy hurt, sure, but right now I don't think it's her intention.

And I'll be real honest here...I just cannot wrap my head around how she will successfully park not thinking of Sev as Cris' father whenever she is with him. Is it fair to Cris, no, but just seems a huge cloud that would hang over them. He's not going to be in a good place either when he finds out. Perhaps with therapy they could work through it, and that bugs me she never has been shown to have for herself. Wish they would do a better job with that on these shows for the victims. I guess that's why some days I think she would be so much better with Renato...but I' don't write these shows.

Daisynjay

cathyx - remember what the young girls in town are like? At least Pru's hilarious, the others act like their in their single digits or are shrews. And the two that might come back to town are too classy for Tomas.

Tofie - I think she's supposed to be both and that's supposed to be the appeal. Ironically, like Cande (or candy now that I think about it), there's a tough outer shell, but if you work at it, there's a soft, sweet center?

I've been wondering this for a while, but I keep forgetting to ask. Does Flavia have a hearing impediment? Her speech pattern sometimes reminds me of some hard of hearing kids I used to know. But maybe it's just a slight lisp?

Daisynjay - oh no! I didn't think about that at all! My first thought was "oh! good thing they found the gun; they can shoot back!" I don't know why I thought the town priest was going to come flying out the door shooting a pistol and scare the pants off those boys, but I still like imagining it :)

though now i'm wondering where Lardo got his gun. Could the TN gods be so kind as to have it be the one in Sev's drawer?

On the CrisSevRape hurdle - the only thing I can think for them, aside from yes months/years of therapy is playing on the fact that Aldie doesn't want to be judged by her mother's mistakes and will try to apply that logic to Cris and Sev/Cande.

Hey, Tofie! Thank you, Girl!

The first person Aldonza speaks to in the morning and the last one at night is Renato. She will drop everything to hop a bus to be with the guy so if they don't screw it's because their parts don't work.

Yeah, Tofie. It would be really ignorant and unrealistic if she does start a relationship with Renato and doesn't consumate it. Of course, she could decide she wants a relationship with him but will maintain a strict "not until we're married" stance. They could also have her attempt to but have flashbacks of the rape. But wait, she could passionately kiss the son of said rapist at that son's engagement party and girl was running on all cylinders so that doesn't seem to work.

Tofie. I think she's both and the boys love to save her and try to figure out the riddle at the same time:

What is she? A willful independent woman to be reckoned with or the fragile, mistreated, deer in the headlights, waif she appears to be most of the time and makes her attractive to those boys that want to save her.

Or, she's a fragile, trembling deer in the headlights until after they save her, then she starts singing "I AM WOMAN!"

Didn't watch PSMA and if that's what happened, I think I'd have to bail! Yuck! This is bad enough!

Thank you, Cathyx! I'm going comment by comment so maybe somebody answered this below but Lardo gave Sev the rental contract and keys for the house Sev rented for Simoneta. This was the house Sev rented because he couldn't get the El Santuario house. He had Lardo be the go between for the paperwork because he didn't want his person to be connected with Simoneta in any way.

Lila, wait, what? There's another house he's renting for Simoneta? I thought he was going to try to rent the house Aldonza is living in for her?

Daisynjay, honey, that's you and me both. Now, I'm not asking any Manantial, or whatever it is called, I'm not asking any folks who saw it to answer and I only know it exists but it would have been much less traumatic, ok, less traumatic if Sev had sent some slimy lackey to beat her up or, if they had to have a sexual assault, do you know what to her but I can't see either of them getting past Sev having raped her either. That's just soooo low and so vile. And he keeps leering at her and has forced a kiss on her. I believe he fully expects he has frightened her into submitting to him at will. Hate that aspect!!

Interesting observation about Flavia, HellaShelle. It would be a perfectly normal variation in the human family! Will have to listen next time.

Hella,

though now i'm wondering where Lardo got his gun. Could the TN gods be so kind as to have it be the one in Sev's drawer?

I guess I assumed that's whose gun it was. Oh, if it is Sev is REALLY going to break one off in Lardo!

Good point on the rape dynamic Hella.

Yea, but when will they give us a strong independent woman in this show or any TN that at some point won't break down in an emotional mess and long for a man to save the day? Both guys believe the way to wifeing her is to protect and save but they will have to fight a worthy opponent for her love. Other than being a walking attack about to happen and cute, what else does she bring to the table? Help me, she has created nothing, not even a hobby or a year off after graduation to see the world. She shows up to clean in white tight jeans and heels, no painting or weedwacking, no cooking, no helping Adelina with the laundry no power job or business skill whatsoever. It was this recent trip to the city and the other 20 somethings she was around that kinda reminded me.

cathyx, Severiano wants Simoneta to be the one to offer Humberto an exorbitant amount in hopes he will break the lease agreement with Aldonza. So there are two places.

Cassandra G. "chiseled rubio god" cracked me up!

David, I thank your son for his service.

Aldonza can hit a bottle at 50 feet, and Tomas might just be stupid enough to stand still for her if she asked. He and Lardo aren't the brightest bulbs in the box.

I'm not sure what to make of Renato's dad's reaction to his wife's death. He cheated with Roberta, who he presumably paid for the favor, yet he felt the need to justify it with the tired old "my marriage sucks" excuse. Then when we finally met Julia and she had a headache at dinner, he wanted to make sure she was ok and he nagged her about seeing a neurologist. Now she's gone and it's as if Renato is doing the mourning for the both of them. Maybe they're trying to show that he wasn't in love with her anymore but he took his responsibility to take care of her seriously?

Daisynjay, "the galans in this TN make me feel like a tennis ball." Word! They're making up for the shows where we had no galans at all and giving us extra galans. Woo hoo!

Susanlynn, thank you for telling us about your angel.

HellaShelle, I know when I get the milk container out of the fridge and there's only a tiny bit left, that's totally because of Aldonza! There are also "Thanks, Lardo!" moments, for when someone does something really stupid that ends up being inadvertently helpful.

I thought it was a given that Cande knew about all the places Sev is getting his battery recharged. Which is why there is no way she'll ever let him recharge her battery, because she doesn't know where his jumper cables have been. If she was pissed off, maybe it's because he's doing it right here in town where Cris might find out. Because that would be soooooo embarrassing.

doris, if they go that route, I hope he demands a paternity test at the lab of his choosing. He's so determined now not to have a marriage like his parents' that I would think that should also extend to not wanting any child of his raised in that kind of environment--which is what would happen if he married Val.

If Aldonza does sleep with Renato, it would be difficult for them to telegraph that this means she's a woman of loose morals...they've already got the whole town calling her a slut when there's nothing going on. There's nowhere to go with that. Unless that's when she ditches the leggings for red dresses. Screw it, though, I'd be happy for her if she was recovered enough from what Sev did that she was enthusiastic about sex with ANYONE. I'll stand up and applaud for that.

I think maybe the inconsistency in Aldonza's behavior is because she's really not a willful, independent woman. She's trying to be. But right now she's just faking it until she makes it. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I mean...how else do you get there?

cathyx, What does Tomas see in Pru? $$$$$

Tofie, Tofie, Tofie, you are not considering animal magnetism. She's puts out the pheromones that Cris and Renato can NOT resist. It's not rational and it's not sane. But it can not be denied. You only see this in telenovelaland, but it's a real thing there.

Hmmm, when I was a young woman a mini skirt and no bra worked like a charm

Tofie, that's because you didn't have the pheromones.

In Mi Corazon es Tuyo, Ana had them, in Corazon Indomable, Maricruz had them.

Esme from La Gata had amazing eau de protagonista. It was really strong.

Damn, must have had a vaccination against them when I was a tot then

I'd appreciate not hearing about other versions of this show, at least until we are *past* the point in question. Really, I'd appreciate not hearing about other versions at all.

I think that post should be deleted, I know many of us don't want to know how other versions were done.

I second that suggestion.

The way AL kissed Cris makes me think that she could end up with him if Severed died and Candy either died, went into a convent forever, or reformed. In telenovelas, the awfulest villains sometimes repent at the very end. People get over all kinds of awful stuff that seems impossible to overcome.

It seems that seeing Gaby
/Sylvia mooning and hugging Renato flipped a switch for AL. Perhaps we have all been there. Somebody suddenly becomes much more appealing when we see that someone else is interested in that person. Raising my hand here. It's like when you are looking at a dress in a store , but you are not sure you like it enough to buy it....until someone else is checking out ''your'' dress the minute after you start walking away. AL has been leaning on Renato for a lot of support lately. Maybe seeing him through Gabysylvia's eyes has put him in a new light for AL.Slow and steady turtles sometimes win the race over hit, speedy rabbits.

The actress playing Val was a spoiled, little beyotch on wheels in PSMA. She left Pablo for a really disgusting older smarmy guy. None of us watching could believe that a pretty , young girl would leave hot Pablo for Creepy, Older Dude.

I am still waiting for Al's plans to be revealed.

Hit..no....hot.

Yeah..I wish that I had not read that comment. To late to unknown it. Boo

Just reread my comment...I don't think that Gaby ''mooned'' Renato..at least not that I noticed. That was supposed to be about her ''mooning OVER'' Renato. Prepositions are important...as we learned in another telenovela starring Big Ed Yanez.

Ha, Susanlynn, you could be right either way...we don't really know what their relationship consisted of :D

Another correction...''too late to unknow it.'' I have got to be more careful and remember to proofread. I also should be washing the dishes and doing the laundry. Speaking of magnets..caraycaray is a magnet that pulls me away from necessary chores.

If she was pissed off, maybe it's because he's doing it right here in town where Cris might find out. Because that would be soooooo embarrassing.

Thanks, Diva. That makes sense. I was confused there like, how in the hell she gon' be trying to control Sev's sex life?

Oh, pheremones and animal magnetism are REAL and they are certainly a co-star with Roberta and Aldonza.

Sorry Diva, I shouldn't have even MENTIONED other versions though I did CLEARLY say I WAS NOT asking for input. Didn't even know "La Duda" existed. I can delete it. Let me do that and come back.

Thanks, Lila!

It makes about as much sense as anything else concerning Cande does. The nerve! She's interrupting funerals, but Sev's screwing around is what's gonna blow their cover? Riiiiiiight....

Wasn't that interesting what Hum was saying to Pru when she was tripping out remembering being touchd (yeeech!) by Tomas! Apparently folks are already talking about Cande and wondering if she's got some screws loose. What if we see screws continue to untighten and fall to the ground as this thing goes on. Crazy as it was, that Church scene is probably not the end of her melt downs and attacks!

I really hope that he meant patients who were coming in to see him for other things just spontaneously brought it up, as opposed to people who had nothing medical going on popped in to get an armchair diagnosis of Cande! I'm surprised anyone brought it up at all--maybe the Mendozas are starting to lose their grip on the town. Irma did try to say "Well, she must have had her reasons" but she also agreed that it was inappropriate.

I think you're right, Diva, about them losing their grip on the town. And Sev prides himself as being revered as an honest and upright man but you see how he lost it when Lardo volunteered to shoot up the Alcoer house: he knew it would be blamed on him and then his beloved son comes in and accuses them of it. They may already feel some of that happening!

If Sev tries to smack Cris again, I hope he let daddy see his new spine the way he showed it to mommy!

Finally watched my recording of this episode.

I see what y'all mean about Pru's coat. Aaaack! Not as bad as the roadkill jacket someone wore in another telenovela, but, still . . .
... Looks like she was in a Paintball fight.
... Looks like it is made of Appaloosa skins. Maybe her favorite horse?
... She must have had one martini too many, before she bought that thing.

Lila, I hope so, too. I hated seeing him back down after Sev slapped him like that. And the way he didn't find that suspicious at all.

doris, knowing Pru, is there ever a time of day when she hasn't had one martini too many? I think her blood must be mostly alcohol by now!

I cannot wait till someone bobs or ducks when Severiano throws one of his roundhouse slaps and his momentum puts him on the ground. Come on people get out of the way. Not like he is jabbing with his left and surprises you with a right.

So, how long will Aldonza be back before Renato follows? Cris has a small window of opportunity.

I wondered when Abelardo was firing at the house if he knew someone was inside? He keeps telling Val he's not a murderer but any one of the bullets could have killed someone.

I think it's that he's stupid enough to shoot up an occupied house and it doesn't occur to him that just because he's shooting at the house doesn't mean he *couldn't* kill someone. I swear, if he had, that's exactly what he would have said..."But I was just shooting at the house!"

Hee hee! Yah, Tofie, folk need to get out of the way, good point!

Cris DOES have a window of opportunity but he needs to practice walking and talking with his new spine before he sees Aldonza. Probably the first time he'll use it with her is when Renato predictably follows her back to SL and he sees them holding hands or some such and Aldonza laying those big baby browns on him!

Diva, right on about Lardo. What an idiot!

Right now Cris is the also ran and Renato Aldonza's bf, everybody sees it. Renato won't stand aside next time Cris approaches and doubt Aldonza will want him to.

Renato dumps Gaby because he loves Aldonza and that noble and attractive to her, yet, Cris breaks off an engagement because he loves her and Aldonza thinks what a stinker he is to cause a suicide attempt and feels bad for Val. Cris cannot buy a break.

Good point, Tofie. Who was that that said yesterday Cris and Aldonza just need some plain, old fashioned dates! Everytime they've been together the context has been fraught with excitement or danger:

>Aldonza being attacked by Lardo and Tomas

>the fire in the huerto and eventually THE KISS 1.0

>Cris's sneaking to see her after his mother smacks her in their own family threshold -- she promises never to run away from him again. . . .that night, his father RAPES her and she runs away soon after

>clandestine meeting, after Cris tracks her down at HIS engagement party where THE KISS 2.0 takes place.

Aldonza and Cris have had no where near the normal interactions a couple getting to know each other would have as Cris had with Vale and as Aldonza had with Renato.

Cris and Aldonza's meetings have felt like illicit encounters in which their emotions are ignited by everyone's forbidding them to be together and the mysterious sombra del pasado.

Again, I'm not taking credit for this thought but after a rodeo or dinner together, they could find out they're not that into each other.

BUT. That's not going to happen. They are drawn to each other but we just have to watch them flub around with each other and long for each other at a distance cause that's what's it all about! Unfulfilled desire until the last day!

*t we just have to watch them flub around with others and long for each other at a distance . . .

Was me. I think it only fair they get a few dates without interruption. I said yesterday, Renato and Aldonza have spent more time together in one night strolling arm and arm than Cris and Aldonza have, including the fire & escape.

Renato broke off a dating relationship. Whose interpretation was it that he broke up with her "because of Aldonza"? His or GabSylvia's? Because if it was GabSylvia saying it, I don't think that should count.

Cris, on the other hand, was supposed to be getting married in a matter of weeks. And after he broke it off, he almost immediately went looking for Aldonza to say "We can be together now!"

Cris needs a life coach or a PR person or something, 'cause he keeps sticking his foot in it! Emmanuel's advice about backing off is the best he's gotten. At least if he backs off, he has less chance of doing or saying something that makes me want to cover my face!

Apropos of nothing - last night E-man said something like "That's what friends do" and I started mentally berating Cris: yeah. Friends notice if one of them is drunk and acting like an ass. Friends don't let friends drink and dance.

"Friends don't let friends drink and dance." Word!

Okay, Tofie, that was an excellent point! They do need uninterrupted time together when neither of them has been slapped, cussed out or shot at -- that would help BIG TIME!

Diva I know Sylvia said Renato left her because of Aldonza. Let me revisit the funeral and see what Renato said about the break up. Un momento!

Renato said that it just didn't work out. He didn't blame anyone or either one of them.

Ok, Renato said he and Sylvia "went out" for a while but it didn't work. He says he cares a lot for Sylvia, but as a friend. "De eso me di cuenta gracias a ti." I realized this, thanks to you. Right after this he makes his declaration of love.

My interpretation is that once he fell in love with Aldonza, he knew that what he felt for Sylvia was just friendship.

SO. It sounds like he might have broken off with Sylvia before he fell in love with Aldonza and then he looked back on what he felt for Sylvia and realized it was only a friendly feeling, not love.

I wouldn't argue with anyone who saw it the other way.

I recall a scene in which Sylvia was giving off possessive vibes around Renato but don't remember it well.

I also just re-listened to E-man and Cris in the cantina. I made a slight modification to something E-man said.

"E-man says seriously, he is looking for love and he knows he's never really had it."

Sad.

I don't like grabby Cris, nor his I'll kiss you into submission approach, however, I still think Aldonza has sent him mixed messages and since she doesn't want him because what his father, mother and others around have done to her then she should have followed her slap with a knee and a yell for her guard dog Renato. She won't tell him the real reason he hasn't a chance and while I am very sympathetic to her reason, it is understandable he is confused. If I could talk to Cris, I would tell him to forget the girl and leave town, Aldonza is a dead end because he has way too much baggage. Why wouldn't a girl want Renato with no baggage and a boy scout to boot? This thing isn't even close. That said, I'm pulling for Cris as his ship sinks.

I thought it was odd that Sylvia was glaring at everyone while they talked about Renato and Aldonza. And none of them noticed it or said anything if they did. If I were in the same room as someone glaring at me while I talked to someone else, I would think they didn't like what I was saying and maybe take the conversation to another room. If she comes to Santa Lucia, I will worry that she takes up with the enemy.

Yeah, Cathyx, like I said, she looks like she'd go dark in a minute! It WAS weird how she stared them down! Psycho stalker chick?

She looks a lot like a character on Mi Corazon es Tuyo, Laura. And Laura started out nice with a lot of common sense, but she turned very ugly. I might be projecting a bit, lol.

Lila, Emmanuel and his lack of love is indeed sad. I hope when he finds out that he's had a family all along, it doesn't make him bitter.

tofie, agreed--forget the girl and leave town...but don't go to the DF! I swear, when Em told him where she was, I thought he was going to jump in his truck immediately! I also agree I'm rooting for him. Otherwise I wouldn't care about his screw-ups.

cathyx, it's the hair. GabSylvia has Laura hair. But I don't think that's the only reason she gives off the "I could go bad" vibe.

Lila! Thanks for a great recap! It's been a long weekend already and I'm just sitting down to read the comments.

Takeaway message to Cande:You don't get to tell you grown son whom he is going to marry. Chris showed incredible restraint as he tried to bring this point home to his mom. Cande combines all the worst traits of a Mama Grizzly and a helicopter mom. Can we call her...Grizzly-copter?

J in Oregon

Thank you J in Oregon! Girl, Cande is Grizzly-copter, Control Freakazoid, Frigid-Hair, whatever, she is a TRIP!

Gah, I'm late getting here cause it was a long day at work and there were so many comments that it was hard to keep up! I read a lot of the comments on my way home on the bus and almost missed my stop!

Okay a few thoughts: I still don't think Cris is right for Aldi, the awful things their parents did to each other should be enough to keep them apart but then you add the rape and that's just not something you move on from, especially if you don't get professional help.

If I were E-man I'd be beyond bitter if I found out that I had a family that would have loved me. I don't know about Roberta because she was never going to win mother of the year but Adelina would have loved him as much as she loves Aldi and he would have grown up with a loving sister- and maybe a brother too- instead he spent all his life feeling and being treated like he was no one worthy of love and affection, what Humberto and Candela did to that boy is unforgivable.

Hey, Eli! Totally agree re E-man! So sad and except for having somewhat bruised social skills and preferring solitude or the company of horses (not bad things!) he's turned out splendidly despite the emotional neglect and abuse he suffered in Hum's home. In terms of the coupling, I don't think Lola deserves HIM!

Eli, I agree that Emannuel's fate, if he is indeed the missing baby, is one of the sadder parts of this story. The baby nobody wanted, and he is reminded of that fact every day of his life. So sad. Of course now, they are playing with us, we have at least two contenders for missing baby.
Must-see TV! (*nods to Gringo).

Hola Amiguis! I just got back from Mexico this evening. Sadly, all good things (and vacations) must come to an end, and it’s back to real life (and the imagined life of our tns). If anyone is interested, here is a link to my Mexico photos: http://tinyurl.com/k3dl9ln

My travels with my friends focused on the Yucatan Peninsula and Central Mexico. The cenotes and Mayan ruins of the Yucatan were beautiful and are not to be missed! In the central heart of Mexico, most of you already know that San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful town, half populated by foreigners. But during these Easter holidays, it was mostly filled with vacationing Mexican families, which was wonderful to behold and to be a part of. Taxco is also well known for its impressive hillsides and silver jewelry, and lives up to its reputation. But my favorite of these central Mexican hillside towns/cities was Guanajuato. Absolutely gorgeous and charming! It’s definitely on my re-visit list.

La Sombra was not far from my mind these past 2 weeks. You’ll notice my new avatar. My eyes lit up when I saw this chocolate, decorated skull in my friends’ home, in this perfect little clear box. I asked them how long they’ve had it. Since October, they said. It was given to them as a gift, but they’ve considered it too pretty to open up and eat. Remind you of something? Then, my nephew sent me a text asking me to bring him back a bottle of the Mayan liquor Xtabentun from the Yucatan. Check out the legend of the origin of xtabentun and tell me if it reminds you of Cande and Roberta: http://www.cancun.com/Editorial/Xtabentun/

Tofie - you sound like you're where I was after Kiss 1.0 when I was wondering "wait, what? what do you mean you're in love and will fight the world for he? You just met her like 48 hours ago! You've spoken maybe 3 times!" Where is the bonding, the connection, the mental or emotional or cosmic boom? So far, they still haven't given us enough to back up un gran amor.

Diva on tofie's point about the Ren/GaSy break up vs. theCris/Val breakup- yes! They made a point to say that the Ren/GaSy was short-lived. They tried it, Ren wasn't that into her, so he told her he wasn't feeling it and they broke up. He didn't keep trying for years, insist he was in fact totally into her forever and ever, propose marriage, give her a ring in front of half the town, kiss his ex, THEN break it off and immediately declare that the woman he insisted he felt nothing for yesterday was actually the one he wants to marry immediately.

Admittedly, I might be forgetting, but Aldonza was pretty direct before he broke the engagement right up to the kiss and even then it was pretty clear that while she admitted she was attracted to Cris and even had feelings for him, she didn't want a relationship and was very torn about responding to him physically.

Welcome back Vivi! if you break that open (at Christmastime...in 20 years...) let us know if you found a giant statement necklace, a long lost engagement ring, or a initial pendant that is one of the key pieces of evidence to your half brother's murder!

I'm looking forward to hopefully catching up on some of these episodes tomorrow and throughout the week, but am SOOOO grateful for the amazing recaps you ladies have put out the past two weeks. Thank you, thank you!

Just from what I'm reading, seems like the plot is churning along nicely, Not sure why so much complaint and worry about what might or might not happen. Plenty to chew over with what has happened! Some really good and interesting stuff-- enough to fuel speculation and interest for a while yet. Let's face it. This is a REMAKE of a classic, so there is bound to be some classic stereotypical plot lines. That doesn't mean they won't be done well. Seems to me this team of writers/directors has done well so far. No need to believe they'll turn into Latoodle's motley crew.

Well, the weather finally lifted here for a while, and we're able to get outside and get some work done, finally. So much to do.

Thanks for all your kind words about my son!

Susanlynn, so sad and touching about the loss of your son, and your statement that you have an angel waiting for you reached right through my chest and grabbed my heart. God bless you.

Tofie, I agree with you that I am constantly surprised that Sev attacks people and gets away with it. As far as fighting potential goes, having one arm is much less than half of having two arms.

I'm enjoying all your theories about why Aldonza is so attractive to men. In addition to being very attractive, this actress has some amazing facial expressions that convey vulnerability, resolve, joy etc. very well.

Cande's behavior does seem to be more and more out of control, and promises to bet worse, I suppose.

I really feel sorry for E-man and his lack of nurturing.

Well, got to get to Mass, then more yard work than you could possibly imagine.

David

How nice to see you back, Vivi! Thank you for sharing your pictures.

Oh, yeah, meant to add that I'm glad you had a nice trip to Mexico, Vivi!

David

Welcome back Vivi. Sounds like a wonderful trip. Looking forward to your thoughts on our gang!

I rather like the fact that Cande is becoming local gossip fodder. Would love to see scenes where townsfolk begin to give both her and Sev the stink eye...where's those two hens in the square? I think she stayed in that unhappy marriage because...well, one must keep up appearances. If she was the one from money, that may have been something drummed into her head when young.

As she loses her grip on everything, I could see Cande becoming unhinged. Not sure I see a straight jacket as her anvil, but I could see her losing it and then going to a convent, spending a life trying to pray her way to redemption.

Have to say, the cat and mouse with Allie and Cris is almost a saving grace. This TN has packed a punch with secrets between them, some neither knows. Allie needs to take those steps to trying any type relationship (with more than hand holding) and she can't do that with him since Sev is still in the picture. And Cris has a LOT of information to eventually digest: A cheating father who also raped the woman he loves, a manipulating mother who is more Lady MacBeth, and the fact he was cheated out of knowing he had a brother, not just a friend (I'm still going with E-Man is his real bro and add Allie to having to get that tidbit too). If we get a trap thinking he got Val preggers plot, there will be that. (Please dear lord no). And we can also throw in that his father was a part of the night Allie's father died..yeah an ending with Allie and Cris is no pretty pink bow.

Had an interesting idea---is Allie really nothing more than Cris' forbidden love (red dress)? Is how Renato summed up what happened with Gaby a hint? Brilliant point that Allie and Cris are all about stolen moments when very young. Now it's welcome to the real world after a lot of heartache. Are they still right for each other or will they just be each other's "past"? First love that doesn't really get to go anywhere can sometimes have a powerful hold on the mind as it is remembered, but one can find love with someone after and find happiness. I wouldn't be opposed to the story going that route. Right now, my beanie quakes how they can wrap up all the secrets and those two make it. Maybe a fast-forward needed? Never saw any orginal versions so no clue.

Daisynjay

About the name mixup Gaby and Sylvia. Was it just the cc's that did the mixup? Did they actually call her Gaby? I was trying to remember earlier episodes that she was in and I thought they called her Sylvia. Does anyone remember?

Vivi! Welcome back! Oh my gosh! I LOVE your pictures! I have saved several for wallpaper. When I show them on my big screen, it's like looking through a window! So glad you had a marvelous time!

I read the legend of Xtabentun. Did you know about this drink before you nephew texted you to pick up some because the reflection of Roberta and Cande in the story is just freakin' freaky!

Welcome back to the patio. You've got a lot to catch up on. I'm going down the new comments since last night, so see you and everyone else down the line.

Seems to me this team of writers/directors has done well so far. No need to believe they'll turn into Latoodle's motley crew.

That reassurance feels good. And what could EVER be as bad as Latoodle!

********

Happy yard work, David!

First love that doesn't really get to go anywhere can sometimes have a powerful hold on the mind as it is remembered, but one can find love with someone after and find happiness

Wonderfully insightful comment and summary of of our musings and anguish Daisynjay @ 9:25! How CAN they wrap up all the secrets and get Cris and Aldonza together? As sensitive and smart and foreward thinking as Renato is, and I do love him, I'm still going for Donnie and Cris, I'm at his table and move freely about the patio among friends!

I forget, who's on the dart board? Did I hear mention of a 3-dimensional Cande target, like how about a life size Cande wax statue that we can throw flaming darts at!

Hey Cathy, just watched a bit of Thursday's episode and Aldonza clearly called the girl Gaby and the captions said "Gaby". I rewatched the stare down scene in the hospital and both Renato and Aldonza called her Silvia and the captions said "Silvia."

So, go figure. Gabsylvia or Gabsvia is awkward, I'm just going to call her Sylvia or Silvia!

o_0

Gablia. But that sounds like a gross medical condition or body part.

Maybe the producer/writers are just trying to make sure we pay attention.

That's funny! Oh well, everybody's allowed a slip up!

I'm surprised they didn't fix that.

Some intern probably screwed up. ;)

I'm always surprised there aren't more mistakes considering the production schedule.

I don't know, guys, I've gone back to the few episodes GaSy's been in so far and it looks as though we've been the only ones calling her Gaby. I haven't seen the part where Aldonza calls her that, but in all of the other scenes the captions and the people are calling her Silvia. Eh ::shrug:: whatevs. I can chalk it up to mass hallucination on the patio. (We must've made the mud from the wrestling pit using SL water)

And I went back and watched episode 11 when she meets her and she's called Sylvia there too.

What's her real name? Is that Gaby?

I suspect it started in Thursday with my recap. I use the Spanish CCs on the days I recap to make sure I get everything (especially the spelling of the slut vocabulary.) I'm sure that's where I saw (rather than heard) "Gaby."

Sorry.

Maybe that Anon was correct in calling for my impeachment.

Hi, all.

Vivi, welcome back. Your trip sounds fantastico.

David, we have a beautiful , sunny day here, too, so I have been doing a little yard work as well. I have been picking up the walnuts that the squirrels missed and branches that the winter winds knocked down. The neighbor who rents part of our farm is across the street plowing to get ready to plant corn.

Maybe AL has been reading Jon Kabat-Zinn...'' You can't stop the waves , but you can learn to surf.''Mindfulness.

Going back to DF with Renato and building a life there would make sense, but AL is completely fixated on facing her dreadful enemies and resuscitating (I watched a Nurse Jackie marathon last night) her family ranch. I would like AL to end up with Cris if Severed and Candy could somehow be disappeared ..perhaps death for one and the convent for the other...however, I usually do not sit at a table. I prefer to mix and mingle on the patio .Renato would be the sane, safe, and logical choice...but love at first sight is hard to deny.

Vivi, I love your pictures! Thank you for sharing them. And that story about Xtabentun does indeed sound like Roberta and Cande! And makes me want to try some :D

"This is a REMAKE of a classic, so there is bound to be some classic stereotypical plot lines." I took a look at the telenovela Bingo cards to see how we're doing https://sites.google.com/site/telenovelasdesquiciadas/bingo and we're still getting plenty of cliches. They're just some somehow not making them as annoying and pointless as usual, I guess.

Sara, they both still hate the last surviving members of the Alcoer family.

But neither of them attempted to kill Aldonza which led me to ask if you had watched or read the recap because you made that statement about them trying to kill her and nothing like that had been mentioned.

Glad you guys like the pics. Lila- I had never heard of xtabentun in my life until my nephew sent that random text. How he knows is a mystery too. But when I heard the legend of the drink, it just about blew me away, the similarities. Reading the story, I can only picture Cande and Roberta.

About the show: I am so excited to see what happens now that Cris has broken up with Val and declared himself to Aldonza. Things are going to get even more tense in the Mendoza household, if that's even possible. I'm assuming that Aldonza intends to farm the land. That seems to be her "mis planes", but Sever sure as heck won't stand for that. Basically, she and Cris are stirring up some HUGE hornets nests called Sever, Cande, and Val. The problem is that all three of these foes play dirty, and Al is in real danger.

I'm not surprised to read that Silvia's presence stirred up a bit of jealousy in Aldonza. Funny that she doesn't really seem jealous of Val, but she's jealous of Silvia. Hmmm... Will she try to have a relationship with Renato to explore these feelings a bit more?

As for virgin/non-virgin protagonists-- Camila in Amor Bravio was not a virgin and lived with her fiance prior to his death.

I was confused, too. I wondered if I had missed something, but, no, that was all Lardo and Val's scheme...or really just Lardo's since Val didn't ask him to do anything specific, just "scare her" and Lardo keeps saying he's not a murderer. I think Sev's reaction also made it really clear that he DID not approve of that nonsense. So, yeah, there's major animosity going on, but nothing to indicate that Sev and Cande are trying to kill off anyone.

Maybe they're twins and it's Sylvia AND Gaby? No, I'm sure they'd be more straightforward if that was the case...it's just funny to think about.

I've never heard of the legend of Xtabentun before, but es impresionante! And sounds very much like Roberta and Cande (also reminds me of Macarena and Carlota...yeah, I'm rewatching ENDA)

Just to beat a dead horse:

On hulu+ "Triste Partida" which aired Thursday, 4-9, at 25:10 the girl in question enters the hospital with Pato and Aldonza greets her "Hola, Gaby" I hear this in the audio and that's what the caption says. Hereinafter when ever she speaks, the caption says "Gaby: blah blah blah."

I guess somebody decided they didn't like the name "Gaby" because the next day, Friday 409 "Tiroteo en Casa" at 19:24 both Renato and Aldonza call her Silvia.

Who knows?

I keep forgetting Roberta killed Ray and burned his body, how does Aldonza ever find out? Does it even matter to her since the devil is Severiano and who cares if mama killed daddy protecting her lover and my rapist?

ooh, tofie, my blood just ran cold...there's no way she hears the story and doesn't go there. Especially if Sev is the one she hears it from. In fact, I wonder why he hasn't told her? I think Adelina is determined never to tell her and those are the only people who know.

re: virgin, etc. According to telenovela rules, I think the female protagonist is not supposed to have sex before marriage with anyone except the male protagonist. I remember in La Hija del Mariachi, our Rosario was sleeping with Emiliano/Francisco before they married at the Gran Fin. Of course, rules are meant to be broken. ;-)

But how does Severiano tell her and not have the town know Ray took his arm and Roberta shot him in the back and got rid of any evidence? He already is angry at Adelina, PJ knows there was a child, if he knew Roberta told her anything she is a dead woman.

Maybe that Anon was correct in calling for my impeachment.

Sarah, No! I hadn't seen this comment when I wrote mine above. As I said, I went back to your episode 4-9 and I heard Aldonza call her Gaby and the caption said Gaby.

We here in the patio are not hallucinating and you are not to be impeached.

They. screwed. up. y punto!

Speaking of hallucination and other altered states of consciousness, I wouldn't mind trying some of that there Mayan liquor Xtabentun that Vivi was talking about. I could've used some euphoric drowsiness in the middle of last night when the sandman abandoned me!

You're sweet Lila.

We've always accused the writers of smoking something. Thus just proves it.

tofie- my blood is running cold as well. How is Aldonza going to react when she hears the truth? I would think it would be devastating to discover your mom killed your dad in order to save the man that eventually raped you. I think that will matter a lot and she will struggle to come to grips with it.

It seems that when I first started watching tns about seven years ago, most plots did not have the leading lady have sex with anyone but the galan...even if she was married. In my first tn Alborada, the leading lady was married but had never had sex because her hubby was sexually ''confused'' and thus incapaciatato. Her mother-in-law blackmailed the galan into sleeping with her...and surprise..first time was a charm....pregnant. She never had sex with her husband even though they lived together at one point in the tn.

As for the person with two names, perhaps she talks a lot and Gaby is her nickname.ha... whatever..so I guess we are now calling her Sylvia,no ?

Not sure it counts-

Cuna de lobos: the prota sleeps with bad guy and ends up pregnant (leading to a fake marriage ceremony.) Also ends up with bad guy's brother and having his child.

Yeah, hard to get your head around that and guess why I keep pushing it out of mind. Even after killing Ray, Roberta continued to be totally enamored with Severiano and bore his child and kept it quiet. Ray was gonna finish him off in a jealous rage and Roberta saved the monster. I still see the look on Rays face when the woman he adored put a bullet in his back.

You're right, tofie. He's got the cops in his back pocket, but only because is rep is so clean. There's no point risking that just to hurt someone with words. I'd have to theorize that if he ever does it, it will be when he's on the verge of death or otherwise feels he has nothing left to lose, just to try to cause one last bit of pain before the end.

We had a prota on Mentir Para Vivir who already had a child with her husband, who turned out to be evil. I don't remember if by the time she was having sex with the "galan" she was legally divorced from her husband, so that may have been a two-fer. Sex with someone other than the galan AND adultery. They do it sometimes. I think they try to break "the rules" selectively, sometimes with better results than others.

Does Quiero Amarte count? We've got a divorced prota with a daughter. Not a virgin. More than one partner.

Ok, here's my pretend non-=sensical story for GaSy. Her real name is Sylvia, named after some former relative and she really doesn't like her name. As we all know, when your young, especially seems to happen in high school and college, you get nicknames. So she was dubbed "Gabby" but the gang--affectionately called because she was chatty and fun. But now they are all grown up, lawyers and college grads and real names must be used on the name plates. Life had to get serious and when Renato broke off with her, seemed the "good old days" were over, so she went back to Sylvia.

That's my make believe way of dealing with it and sticking to it.

And since we have full democracy on the patio, I feel confident in saying Sara there will never be the votes to impeach you!!

As for the dart boards, right now we have Mari and Val as the two prominent boards with a side board with Lardo on it. Someone stuck a HUGE old dart right between his eyes and looks like noone has decided to move it. Happy to change one of those out for Cande, or maybe we could come up with a ball throwing game
a la carnival style with little Sevs and Candes going back and forth to try and deck.

Daisynjay

tofie, I guess for Roberta it was the mama-bear "You hurt my CHILD!" thing that finally broke Sev's hold on her.

Dartboards seem the perfect speed for Vile, Mary and Lardo types.

I'm afraid I have more violent thoughts about Sev.

I still feel an eensy bit of pity for Cande. (But just an eensy bit.)

I really hope Aldonza doesn't learn the truth from Sev.

In Mentir Para Vivir, her husband was declared dead, and she didn't know that he was actually alive, so I guess it's ok for the female to have sex again in that case. But if she knew he was alive, then TN rules states no sex for her.

My hatred for Sev needs something more like a Whack-a-Mole game.

I don't think I give enough credit to Alexis Ayala for going full-out on this character. If not for that, Sev wouldn't be nearly as hateable.

Lila - thanks! you're right. I didn't hear the Gaby, but once I turned the captions on, there it was.

Sara - to borrow a TN phrase: no digas tonterias, mujer! lol, no way we'd impeach you, girl! Besides, crazy captions are not our fault.

Captions are a great source of entertainment. Back when I still used the English ones, "playa" was rendered "bitch." It was so funny.

The upcoming chapter in speaking class is about fairy tales. It is amazing how closely they resemble telenovela rules.

Fairytale plots teach a lesson using this progression of events : 1) protagonist does not obey a warning or is treated unfairly 2) he/she is sent away 3) he/she must complete a difficult or dangerous task or suffer in some way to make everything right again 4)he/she returns home in a better condition than before. At some point, the protagonist meets a mysterious person or creature who helps by granting a wish or giving a special gift. Protagonist is rewarded in the end with 1) marriage 2) money 3) survival or 4) wisdom

That's so true Susanlynn. The mysterious person in TNs usually grant money, so that the protag can go to school, start a business, or have it to exact revenge.

There are plenty of tns where the protagonists has been married before and has a child, but by the time she falls in love with/meets galan there is no more nookie with anyone else. Hasta Que el Dinero... and Amor Bravio are the only two I have seen break that rule, with Hasta's protag having sex with and even marrying her guy after she meets and starts to fall for the galan, and AB's protag having lived with and had sex with her deceased novio with no resulting child.

Who was it who said tns are just fairy tales for adults?

Gosh Vivi. I feel like that was something someone said years ago. Was it Urban or NovelaMaven? Julia?

A half-assed Google search had several of Urban's weekend posts for 2012 pop up.

BINGO!

It was Urban. Here's the link to the thread (ironically one of my recaps... This is not self promotion. I swear.)

http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2011/03/3911-tda-one-wedding-and-funeral.html?m=1

Thanks, Sara! Great sleuthing work!

I think it's called "Google addiction" not sleuthing. Lol.

My brother-in-law likes to Google bait me. He says stuff just to see how fast it takes for me to say "let me Google it."

All weekend I've been thinking of Hellashelle's "Because of Aldonza" TV show suggestion. In my head it's a sitcom. With opening credits similar to "That Girl."

Vivi, welcome back! You've been missed.

Your pictures were beautiful - the sights, the water, all. Looks as though you had a wonderful time.

The action continues to build and there's been nothing formulatic at all. What a treat.

Diana

Sara...I loved ''That Girl.'' I would watch ''That Aldonza'' or '' That Darn Girl.''...but not ''That Darn Cat.''

Sara - lol, glad my tangent can be enjoyed by others. I was thinking game show parody, but I like the sitcom angle. So many possibilities: Does every episode stand alone? Does Sev lose his arm in every episode in some bizarre way that is "Because of Aldonza"? Are Cris and Val back on at the beginning of every eppy, but by the end, he's all about Aldonza? Are limited edition DVDs available at The Naughty Melon?

One of our garage door opener tracks is broken, and I am pretty sure that it is ''Because of Aldonza.''

You know it is, Susanlynn!

Our second child, a boy, wasn't a bad child, but he was always into something, so it usually was wise to ask him first about anything that was broken, missing, or whatever.

David

Lol, David...he must have gotten so annoyed the one time in a hundred he had nothing to do with it!

So far, Roberta's children only break hearts. Darn their beautiful, beautiful hides!

hellashelle- Yes, both Aldonza and Emmanuel have the curse of being too sexy and desirable for their own good.Everyone either wants them or hates them.

You are so right, 5ft! His voice would drip with indignation at the very THOUGHT that we could have even considered him to be guilty.

We have so many stories about that kid, and they are all cherished memories.

David

hey everyone, today work is kicking my butt, I don't see any way that I'll be able to do the recap, can anyone fill in? I'm willing to trade days!

I think the entire team is down with Monday-itis! If no one else has given a definitive "me, me, me!" by the time I get home from rehearsal, then I will do a recap and post it tomorrow morning.

Good news, we've got it covered!

Gracias Lila. I think I like this episode because they're starting to unmask the hypocrisy of some of the rock throwers of Aldy. Case and point...Pru. I hope they show her falling hard for this young guy.
also a late comment from previous days about the things for sale . I think It was Sara that was asking about the cross the shoulder handbags/(Dominga's?_). I am just laughing at that because I am getting irritated by that handbag. Is there someone at the wardrobe dept or is it a Director's idiosyncrasies that makes a character wear certain things such as cross handbag wherever (maybe even when sleeping or taking a bath). I noticed that too in other tns, such as a baseball cap being worn by a charater even as a formal wear. Weird.
I love this tn second to Amor Bravio. Will always be reading your wonderful blogs. Anne

Oh and I forgot, the trench coat of Araceli in Hasta el Fin/ Does she moonlight for X files? Anne

Thanks, Anne!

:D
