La Sombra del Pasado, 4-7-15, Capitulo #36: Oh, it’s not over. It’s just begun…

Recap by HellaShelle

Things are just about ready in El Santuario house. Adelina thinks it’s like time never passed, everything’s exactly the same. No, Aldonza reminds her. It’s not the same without her mother. Adelina gathers her up into a hug. When does Aldie want to move back in? Aldie says tomorrow. Adelina thinks that’s a little fast. Despite what she said two seconds ago, the house isn’t 100% ready yet, but Aldie doesn’t think there’s a reason to wait; it’s livable. They’re discussing it when Emmanuel comes in to tell Aldie someone’s looking for her. It’s Cris.

He needs to talk to her. It’s important. Well, she has nothing to say. But he does. But she doesn’t. But he does – Thank God Joaquin comes in to ask if there’s a problem. No, Cris just wants to talk to Aldonza, that’s all. She tells him he can state his piece and then leave. He would like some privacy to share his inner most thoughts and feelings and here, away from his house, he can actually get it. He and Aldonza head outside to talk.

Valeria washes her face as a variation of the Wicked Witch of the West theme plays. There’s some lovely photography work as she opens her mirrored bathroom cabinet and her eyes light on an unlabeled bottle of pills. She takes them out, closes the mirror and silently confers with her reflection. They come to decision.

Cris swears to Aldie that what he said last night was true: he loves her. What’s more, he’s sure she loves him back, despite what she says, otherwise she wouldn’t have responded to Kiss 2.0 in a way that melted TV screens across the country. Don’t speak for me and don’t be ridiculous, she fires back. He knows this seems crazy because he was marrying Valeria, but they’re over now. Well, who the heck told him she wanted him to break up with Valeria?! Aldonza asks. He answers that Val was the biggest obstacle to them being together (shows how much he knows). Aldonza tells him that at no point has she thought he could be her partner, not in love, not in anything, and he’s treating his girlfriend/fiancée like crap. Cris scores his first point of the night by pointing out that he can’t be with anyone else knowing that he’s in love with Aldonza. Too bad, Aldonza says flatly. She doesn’t feel the same way about him, so he left his girl for absolutely nothing. He doesn’t believe her, he says, taking a step closer and lightly grasping her arms (ah, here it comes…). She won’t be able to escape him or what they both feel. She asks him to let her go. She has to leave. Cris matter of factly tells her that it doesn’t matter how much she fights, sooner or later she’s going to recognize their situation for what it is. (This escaping, “doesn’t matter how much you fight” language is creeping me out, but only because we know what Sev did.) She tells him to let go of her again and leaves.

A glassy-eyed Lola’s home and she’s fine, just checking out the fridge for a snack. Everything’s cool, Dominga…except that she broke up with the E-man. She sniffs into Dominga’s hug. Her grandmother thinks Lola did the right thing since that relationship was born of tricks and deceptions and stolen kisses. Dominga says she’d ream her out, but it looks like she’s already gotten punished for this whole affair just by having it. Now E-man’s gotta step up and fix the mess he made. Lola adds that she has to, ugh, leave the road free for Mari to slither up it. Dominga agrees, for Mari or anyone else. Or would she rather he hurt her again? No, she advises Lola to maintain some dignity. Lola agrees again, that’s why she told him she doesn’t want to see him again…which was dumb! Why did she do that?! She smacks herself in the head. She could’ve just put him on the rack for a few days or months, but instead she sent him packing and she loves him, the idiot. What’s she going to do?

Cris arrives home to find his parents laying in wait for him in the living room. Sev gets to be point: what is this about Cris not marrying Val? Cris confirms. Cande can’t believe he says it so blunty and calmly, but Cris calls it like he sees it. Sev thinks this is a terrible way to treat a woman (really, Sev? Seriously?) and Cande thinks Cris is “just confused,” but Cris put the cabash on both of them because he knows he doesn’t love Val like that. It took a lot for him to recognize it for what it is, but he’s not turning back now. Well, Cande says, he looks like a capricious child. No, Cris insists, he just refuses to get married just because he gave his word and they’re already planning the wedding. He doesn’t want to have a marriage without love, like theirs (ding, ding, ding! Give this man a million dollars!)

Sev jumps in: they’re not talking about his and Cande’s marriage, and he doesn’t have the right to judge them. Cris points out that they’ve discussed his more than once and he just doesn’t feel like repeating that mistake. They’re going back and forth when Val calls Cris’ cell. She’s laid out on her bed, talking in halting sentences. She just called…to say goodbye…she loves him…

All of the Mendozas can guess what’s up. Cris asks his dad to call Hum while he and Cande rush out of the house. Sev tells Hum he needs to get home immediately then, after hanging up, says that this is all they need and Val’s an idiot (yes. We know.)

Mari (la descarada), comes bopping up to Dominga outside, asking for Emmanuel. He’s not there. Can Dom help her with anything else? No (ponytail swish), she just wanted to talk to him. She’s embarrassed about the show they gave last night. Dominga’s like “good! At least you have a little shame.” Mari, la descarada, pouts at Dominga not to be mad at her and Lola’s her friend and she’d never hurt her, but she tried to steal Emmanuel from Mari and that’s why he kissed her last night, so now Lola should understand that it’s Mari he’s into and I might have missed something because I closed my eyes and tried to block out the ringing in my head here. Dominga says that all of this might be true, but the way they did it sucked balls. They humiliated her girl. Mari says she knows, but E insists that he had no choice because Lola just wouldn’t see the truth. Dominga gives this chick waaaayyy too much credit and is like well I guess if it happened that way, then none of it’s your fault. What?! You guys, I can’t. Imma slap Mary La Descarada in the town square. Mary fakes like she’s getting emotional and asks Dominga to talk to Lola and put in a good word for her AND E. She turns, smiles and bops away and I have mentally jumped out of the Renato fight and it’s just me throwing his lying heffa into the mud and beating on her.

Pru is reading a magazine with her feet up when people start pounding on the door. Cris and Cande burst in. Cande tells Pru to be calm as Hum and Cris rush to Val’s bedroom. Cris breaks the door down and they try to get a barely conscious Val to react. Cris finds the pills and helps Hum move her into Hum’s room (um…why?). Cande gets Pru and Cris downstairs to give Hum space and protect Val’s privacy.

Uriel and Irma are having a parent conference at a café. Uriel is relaying his morning meeting with Sev, telling Irma that if E is playing with their little girl, he deserves to lose his job (hold up, what?!) and he has Sev’s full support and E’s going to have to respond with actions, not words and I’m angry again, so let me know if I miss something here. Irma’s like “eh…I don’t know? Are you sure he’s even  really interested in Mari?” Uriel stops for a moment while his giant ogre self works through having a thought before setting on an action. “Um, duh, that’s what I understood…” Yeah, it’s too much for his brain so he repeats that E’s going to have to demonstrate his affection for Mari with actions, not words. Irma, now officially the only useful person in this family, switches topics. She saw Padre J this morning and he told her about Rob’s mass. Uriel doesn’t want to go, but Irma urges him to. Not many people will be there and it will be a nice gesture for Aldonza. I want the father to give a fiery sermon on judging people based on rumors and suppositions and outright lies and I want him to stare and Mari the whole time.

The Santuario crew is finishing up for the day. They have to get ready for the mass. Aldonza says she’ll never be able to thank them enough, Joaquin and E say the happy faces of the Alcocer girls is all the payment they need. There are smiles and hugs all around. Joaquin dims the bulb because he might not be able to make it to the mass (on account of his wife being a shrew), but Adelina assures him they won’t be offended. La descarada calls E and says they need to talk. Hell yeah, they need to talk! E agrees and tells Joaquin to head out, he’ll catch up later. E asks Mari wth?! with her last night, and she says they should talk in person. (E, no. Do not meet with this viper unless it is brightly lit, with plenty of witnesses and a lawyer.) E says he can’t right now because he’s going to Rob’s mass, but they can meet up tomorrow. Uriel and Irma come in so Mari cheerily agrees, sends him a kiss and hangs up. She kisses them hello and says she was talking to her boyfriend, E, before bopping away. Uriel takes this as proof that they’re together. Because he’s an idiot.

Cande’s updating Sev via phone. Dominga comes into his office to ask if Cande will be back soon because she and Melesio can’t miss this mass. Who died? Sev wants to know. Dom tells him it’s for Rob and Sev gets lost in memory.

Hum lets everyone know that Val’s ok and Pru and Cande go to her. Hum holds Cris back to tell him that Val did this idiotic thing because of him, so he should stay away from her and not torment her more with his presence and he better just leave before Hum forgets that Cris is his godson. Cris tries to say he’s sorry and didn’t mean for this to happen throughout Hum’s speech, but Hum keeps cutting him off. Which is fine. Unlike with Uriel and E, there’s no info lost in the middle. Cris leaves.

Lola’s crying on Aldie’s shoulder. Aldie’s sympathetic, but she’s sure Lola will get over this. No, Lola says. When it’s true love, it buries itself in the heart and won’t die. Like with her and Cris. Aldie doesn’t want to talk about him. Lola wants to know why Aldie’s mad at him, what’d he do? Aldie tells her about the behind the scenes of the engagement party and the subsequent engagement cancellation, and Lola’s a little thrilled. Cris did all of that for Aldie? Awww! Aldie’s like no, he’s a jerk. That’s a jerk move that no one deserves, not even Val, who I hate. She tells Lola she told him to get a life and Lola’s like why?! That was superomantic! Not everyone would do that! Aldie agrees; not everyone would, only someone who doesn’t know wth he wants would do that. Lola asks if Aldie knows what she wants cuz her eyes shine when she talks about Cris and she can tell Aldie still loves him. They’re saved by Renato, who’s calling Aldonza on her cell to ask if she’s ready. She thanks him for coming to the mass b/c she knows it’ll be a small group. Renato thinks that’s fine; why would she want a bunch of hypocrites around anyway? Good point, she says. The important people will be there. Renato says he’ll be by to pick her up in a little bit. Lola’s like wow, I can’t even get a dog to bark at me and you’ve got two Prince Charming’s falling all over themselves to get to you and you won’t even either one the time of day! Some girls have all the luck.

Pru is telling Val she was so worried! The Ice Queen tells the freaked mom to leave her recently suicidal daughter to go get Val something to drink. Pru protests, but Val backs Cande up. Cande starts lighting into her for pulling this idiotic stunt. Doesn’t she have a sense of self-preservation? Val reveals that even she’s not that dumb. She only took two pills and threw the rest away. Cande’s still ticked. They were worried sick! Even Hum bought the act! (Guess he’s not that great of a doc after all) How could she play with them like that?! Val’s like how could Cris play with me like that?! He just tossed me to the side, like so much trash, all for Aldonza. Cande doesn’t even want to hear the name. She insists this isn’t over, but Val’s not so sure. Cris is likely to defend Al against the whole world if necessary. Cande puts on her plotting face and says no, Cris is all about Val right now. He feels guilty and ashamed. Pru comes back in with tea or something for Val. Cande says she’ll send Cris in, but Pru says he already left. Val’s says I told you so. He’s probably with Aldonza.

Aldie’s thinking of how few people will be at the church while Lola idles in the background. She asks Adelina if Roberta was really such a bad person. Adelina says no, Rob was just unsatisfied with life. Aldie asks if Rob was happy as a child, and Adelina says yes, but she was always rebellious and atrabancado (hurried, rushing). Nothing was ever enough, so she was always frustrated. Aldie’s surprised that the sisters were so different. Adelina agrees, but insists that they loved each other and she’s so sorry she couldn’t help Rob find happiness. Aldonza knows she tried her best, and God knows all she did for both she and Rob. Al would’ve loved to have a sister like Adelina. Lola pipes up to say she’s here and they share a group hug.

Cris is feeling the weight of his world on his shoulders. Melesio asks what’s up and Cris says he told the truth and placed his bets and nothing is working out. Aldonza wants nothing to do with him and he’s making the woman who does love him suffer. He tells Mel that Val tried to kill herself and Mel says Cris can’t blame himself for Val’s actions. What’s more, is Cris sure Val didn’t fake it for attention? After all, she loves herself a lot. Cris says no way, then admits that the thought did cross his mind, but he doesn’t think she would go that far. Mel hits the nail on the head and says that’s because Cris is noble and thinks everyone else is too, but they’re not. Cris still doesn’t (want to) buy that. Mel says the heart makes people do crazy thinks. Dominga finds them and fusses b/c she’s been looking for Mel and they’re going to be late. Cris asks where they’re going and she tells him they’re going to Rob’s mass.

After the commercial break, PJ is wrapping up Rob’s mass with a moment of silent prayer. He’s just closing out he mass, when Cande comes swooping down the aisle. She descends upon Aldonza, screaming that Aldie won’t get her way! Cande will die before she lets her son hook up with her! She lands a huge slap across Aldonza’s face while everyone looks on in shock and horror…Including Cris.

Hum has told Val that he’s the one that kicked Cris out. She’s pissed; she wanted to see him. Hum says he did it cuz he’s her dad and given the circumstances, he thought it was best.  Pru, por variar, is on Val’s side and says Cris was also desperate to see Valeria. Hum asks Pru to let him talk to Val alone.

“Candela!” PJ booms out. “How can you act this way in the House of God?!” Well apparently we aint seen nothing yet, cuz the witch has gone bsc. She grabs Roberta’s urn and is about to smash it on the ground when Cris grabs her. Al snatches the ashes, hands them off to Adelina and has to be held back by both Adelina and Lola from tearing Cande to pieces. Cris is furiously ordering his mom to leave. Candela screams that Cris needs to be with Val and, in case he’s forgotten, it’s Aldie’s fault that Val tried to kill herself and Aldie ruins everything she touches, including this church! PJ bellows at her to shut up and kicks her out of the church. Cande poisonly swears that Al is going to hell, screams at Cris to let go of her and broomsticks her way out.

Back at the Zapatas, Hum says he doesn’t like what happened tonight. As bad as Val feels, this is not the way to feel better and it’s not what Val learned in this house. Val says she can’t take it that Cris is leaving her for another woman. Hum counters that he couldn’t take it if Val left this world, for any reason. Val asks for forgiveness and Hum makes her promise she won’t do it again. He tells her she can’t make Cris love her the way that she loves Cris and he’s not the only man in the world. Val cries that Hum’s depressing her more and should leave; she wants to be alone. Hum just wants her to know that he loves her and is there for her.

PJ says what just happened is too shameful to even comment on. He wishes everyone a good night. Aldonza is on the verge of tears and homicide.

Cris wants to know wtf Rob did to Cande that Cande would do what she just did. Cande says the only thing he needs to understand is that she won’t allow him to get involved with that whore. Well, Cris won’t allow her to manage his life. Cande, astonished, asks if he has rights over Val’s life. She thinks it’s nuts that instead of being with Val, he’s come to pay his respects to a whore. Cris tells her to stop before he has to get rude. Cande, with tears in her eyes, says he’s should have more respect for himself, rather than being here, dirtying his family name. They both agree that it’s useless to talk to each other. Cris moves to usher her away, but she tells him not touch her, she can walk alone.

Emmanuel was watching from afar. As Cris and Cande leave, Mari slinks up to him, wanting to have their talk. E says he already made it clear: not today. (Sidebar: Oh this is the shot from the opening credits.) E wants to know wth is up with her. She knows what went down last night. She forced things. Mari insists he kissed her back. For a second. She felt it. Lola is watching this from the sidelines and after watching Mari try to affix herself to E like a barnacle, Lola runs away. Meanwhile, E’s like no, I was drunk and you took advantage. E tells her point blank that she did it so Lola would see them. Mari testily admits that yes, she did force things, but it wasn’t so Lola would see, it was because she likes him and she had to put up a fight. E’s like wow…you’re horrible. Mary’s like, no I’m not, I’m sincere. Not like Lola, who did exactly the same thing and now thinks E’s her property. E puts the stop to that immediately. He’s no one’s property and to start, Lola kicked him to the curb. What’s more, everyone’s trying to confuse or seduce him. What’s even more, everyone thinks he’s the worst because of what he did to Lola. And to finish things off, her dad threatened his job over this. For some reason, Mari still tries to kiss E at this point, swearing she didn’t know. E says he’s had it. He’s not going to be blackmailed and he’s not going to be forced into a relationship. If he loses his job over this…well, he’ll leave it to God. He stalks off and a pouting, scheming Mari remains in the plaza.

Hum tells Pru that Val’s depressed and still insists on getting back with Cris. Pru thinks it’s logical. It’s terrible to be made a laughingstock, especially since they just announced the wedding. Hum thinks what the people say is the least of their worries. What matters is that their daughter’s hurting. Pru says, yeah, in large part because of what the people are saying! (She has a point). Hum says it doesn’t matter; they can’t force Cris to love Val and it’s clear that he doesn’t. Pru says they can talk to him; they can’t just do nothing. Doesn’t he realize they almost lost their daughter? She worked herself into tears again. Hum says yes, of course. He loves his daughter, but it’s clear that she’s desperate; she’ll do anything to keep Cris. But if they want to really help her, they have to be together on this. She has to help him make Val see that she can’t force Cris into this. Pru starts to protest, but Hum gently stops her. Is she with him or not? Pru gives up. Yes, she’s with him. She just hopes they’re not making a mistake that will hurt Val even more.

Cande storms in and is stomping upstairs while Sev asks what happened and is Val ok. Cande pauses to say that, physically, Val is fine. But she cried an ocean and their son doesn’t appear to care! Sev relays Dominga’s message and Cande snaps that she doesn’t want to hear Rob’s name in her house. She glares at Cris and adds “or her daughter’s”. She finishes storming away. Sev calmly turns to Cris and asks what happened. Cris tells him what happened at the church. Sev is surprised, but smirks.

Adelina and PJ are getting home. Adelina’s glad Renato took Aldie out for dinner. PJ is indignant. Adelina agrees. Whatever Rob did to Cande, nothing justifies what Cande did tonight. PJ agrees. He fills Adelina in on the broken engagement. PJ says Al should’ve known this could happen because Cris told her he loved her at the party. Adelina’s shocked. Why didn’t Aldie tell her?! PJ says honestly, nothing would make him happier than to see Aldie married to a nice boy like Cris…but, Adelina finishes, in this town it would be like condemning them to la hoguera (burned at the stake?). PJ agrees, but if that’s what Cris and Aldie want, neither PJ or Adelina can oppose. Adelina is shocked. You mean we’ll have to give them our support?! PJ says there’s a diff between not agreeing with them and going everything they can to stop them. That would be stooping to Cande’s level and that’s the last thing he’d do.

Sev is amused that after over 20 years of guarding her rep and keeping her cool to the point of being frosty, Cande flew off the handle, in a sacred place no less. Cande says a lot of things came together to make her explode. Sev asks sarcastically if she couldn’t have chosen a more public place. The town square perhaps? Cande says that’s exactly why she exploded in the church. It tears her up that Rob’s ashes are there. Sev asks why she still hates Rob after all these years. She’s dead. Cande says Rob ended her only chance at happiness, killed her dreams, and the family she wanted to have. Sev says she makes it sound like the distance between them actually bothers her. Like, maybe, she really was in love with him…

Tomorrow: More fall out. Val puts her manipulator prowess to work.

OMG hellashelle! What an episode you got!!

Off to read the recap.

"She takes them out, closes the mirror and silently confers with her reflection. They come to decision."

LOVE this line!

"He answers that Val was the biggest obstacle to them being together (shows how much he knows)."

Exactly!

"She turns, smiles and bops away and I have mentally jumped out of the Renato fight and it’s just me throwing his lying heffa into the mud and beating on her."

1. LMAO
2. Mr Awesome wanted to watch TV last night so I only saw the first 5 minutes. I need to thank him because just reading about this scene has pissed me off. Mary is a ho. And not a heartbreaking ho like Roberta. Straight up ho. Can I beat on her too?

Thank you, hellashelle for this rollicking ride through last night's activities.

"Cande gets Pru and Cris downstairs to give Hum space and protect Val's privacy." Why? Is he going to do a pelvic exam on her? I would think he could use some help holding her in position over the ivory throne while he induces vomiting.

Loved E-man standing up to Mary. She sees no boundaries.

Well, Cande certainly demonstrated to Cris that she has some serious mental issues. I am so glad that he told her she wasn't going to run his life. Like that will last.

Boy, PJ almost shunned Cande from the church! I really like that character.

David

I want the father to give a fiery sermon on judging people based on rumors and suppositions and outright lies and I want him to stare and Mari the whole time.

Uriel takes this as proof that they’re together. Because he’s an idiot.

So glad I missed this crap.

I joined back into the episode right as Candela came in the church and slapped Aldonza.

I could NOT believe she grabbed that urn either! I was floored!

HellaShelle, thank you for the recap! And what an episode!

Maria de los Angeles is indeed descarada! I wanted to yank that damn swishy ponytail off her head! I can't believe Dominga bought her lies. I would have taken Dominga for being a much better judge of character than that. I'm glad Em told her he wouldn't date her in order to keep his job.

I agree, Cris' talk about not escaping while physically holding on to Aldonza came off unintentionally creepy. I'm anxious for the growing up to happen, because he was acting a little entitled all night. He simmered down a bit, though, and I appreciated that he went to the service, but sat in the back. And then the way he stood up to Candela...maybe Val was giving him something to keep him passive and it's wearing off now. I don't mean literally, but there really is a difference in him without Val vs. with.

Humberto gets an award for keeping Cris away from Val. When Melesio brought up that maybe she was faking it for attention, my thought was that it doesn't matter, the correct course of action is the same either way--Cris isn't good for her. Cande and Pru are acting like the obvious solution is for Cris to get back together with her. Cande, I understand. She's got her agenda and she knows the truth. Pru has no excuse, except that she's more worried about not upsetting Val in the short term than about, as Humberto keeps bringing up, what happens if the inevitable breakup happens later.

Humberto does not, however, win the good doctor award. I think all he did was drag her into the shower and douse her with cold water. If he really thought she'd downed a bottle of pills, he should have taken her to the closest hospital and had her stomach pumped. Ah, but then everyone would know it was faked.

"Sev thinks this is a terrible way to treat a woman (really, Sev? Seriously?)" that had me rolling! Oh, that Sev. He's all heart. Gets all misty every time he thinks about Roberta. Yeah, he's such a sensitive guy.

As for Cande's BSC in the church moment. I gasped. Audibly. The urn?! Seriously, Cande?! And I was cheering for Aldonza as she kicked off her shoes. The action that church has seen! I agree, it's time for a fiery sermon from the current Padre! But how on earth is he going to be able to deliver it while giving the stink eye to the entire town simultaneously? He'll dislocate an eyeball like that!

I probably have a ton more to say, there was just so much going on!

David, I did not think of that--inducing vomiting. Would he not really want to do some tests to find out what she took and make sure there was no damage? I think that was the same bottle of pills that Pru was downing with booze the other day. I'd love it if it turns out that Humberto's apparent unconcern is because he'd long ago replaced Pru's pills with sugar pills, so he knows there was no danger.

Thanks Helleshelle, I love that you guys keep referring to the kiss as kiss 2.0. I don't think we're going to get kiss 3.0 for a long time.

I thought the same as David, that he took her to the bathroom to force her to throw up. But he may have known how many pills were in the bottle and noticed that there was still a few in it.

I thought it was Val who slapped Aldonza from the previews I saw the previous night. Obviously I was wrong, and Cande sure can slap with conviction.

I love Lola, but it's like nails across a chalkboard hearing her whiny voice. I hope she quits with that soon.

Aldonza's best revenge now would be to marry Cris. Not that I envy her her in-laws.

HellaShelle, splendid recap replete with vivid detail. It was sensational - thank you.

"She takes them out, closes the mirror and silently confers with her reflection. They come to decision" and "Irma, now officially the only useful person in this family, switches topics" were among my many favorites.

“Candela!” PJ booms out. “How can you act this way in the House of God?" Needless to say, this was my favorite scene with the dear Padre majestically hurling himself down from the altar to righteously admonish and banish the evil Cande. I have to tell you that I gasped and screamed “NO” when Cande went to grab the ashes. As there is nothing sacred to this woman, she has now gone beyond the edge of reason to a blind, all consuming vengeance. I thought Cris handled his mother quite calmly under the circumstances. Was he in shock? Perhaps the horror and brutality of what he witnessed hadn’t sunk in.

Kat, loved your "...it's time for a fiery sermon from the current Padre! But how on earth is he going to be able to deliver it while giving the stink eye to the entire town simultaneously? He'll dislocate an eyeball like that!" and laughed heartily.

“Aldonza is on the verge of tears and homicide”. How much more can this poor woman take? She was a defiant, defending angel. What a nightmare to add to an already devastating, sad event.

If Val accepted the inevitable that Cris doesn't love her and they will never marry, one hurdle for Cris and Al might be eliminated and know it won't happen. Now Cande's hatred has become another barrier.

Forgive me for repeating this but I still don't see how Al and Cris can be together given her rape by Sev. I'm starting to think there are too many obstacles to overcome.

Diana

5ft, there are two classes of ingested chemicals that can cause problems; those that do not cause local tissue damage, but, in high enough doses, can be absorbed and cause toxic reactions in various organs; and chemicals that do cause local tissue damage, like strong acids or lye.

As a general rule, you would want to get rid of the first class as soon as possible.

For the types of chemicals that can cause local tissue damage, you would not want to induce vomiting, because as the vomitus goes through the esophagus again, it can cause further damage.

I presumed that Hum knew what Val had ingested because Cris found the empty bottle.

I LOVE your sugar pill theory!!

David

cathyx, I think that's a good point. If all Aldonza were after is some straight-up cold-blooded revenge, she would marry Cris. So far, all she's talked about is getting the land back and that's not revenge, that's just real estate. And never letting Sev get away with anything again is justice. I'm not seeing any revenge going on here.

Diana, clearly Aldonza doesn't see how they can be together either, but I'm afraid Cris isn't going to back off until she tells him everything. Even then, he may not back off, but I hope he'd at least be a little gentler in his tactics.

Forgive me for repeating this but I still don't see how Al and Cris can be together given her rape by Sev. I'm starting to think there are too many obstacles to overcome.

I may be crazy here....but I'm actually kind of hoping for some new opening credits where the "end game" is ambiguous, because I would be fine with Aldonza and Renato being together.

There are a ton of obstacles and I just don't know how the writers can resolve them in a satisfactory manner.

HellaShelle – Thank you for the recap! You got a doozy of an episode.

Do these people not have 911 and ambulances? First, E-man is whacked with a fence post and he gets dragged to a house and up a flight of stairs. QTH? He could have had a spinal cord injury!

Next, Val’s parents do not have her taken to hospital to get the stomach pumped? QTH? Well, it would be fine with me if Val ODed but, still . . .

Who is keeping the Slap bet list? Because, really Cande better not give Aldonza a total of eight slaps (ref: HIMYM) over the course of this telenovela.

Cande is evil. Who does that in a church? At a funeral mass? Someone needs to throw her under a bus or a train, or a cement truck.

”"She turns, smiles and bops away and I have mentally jumped out of the Renato fight and it’s just me throwing his lying heffa into the mud and beating on her."”
You go, girl!!! I’ll hold down the Renato table for you. (VBgrin) ;o)

Mary truly is a lying heifer! Does Santa Lucia have a train? Because I hope someone throws her under it.

I give Irma extra credit points for wanting to go to Roberta’s memorial mass, as an act of compassion.
She raised two messed-up kids but as a human being, she is really nice.

”Lola’s like wow, I can’t even get a dog to bark at me and you’ve got two Prince Charming’s falling all over themselves to get to you and you won’t even either one the time of day!”
Wasn’t that a great line? LOL Sort of like “can’t get a dog to come to her unless we tied a pork chop around her neck” that is used in the U.S.

Aldonza really needs to take some personal defense classes, and use it the next time she is attacked. Most bullies usually stop --- or think twice --- after their victims stand up to them.

Doris, they don't have 911, but they do have ambulances. I thinks since Humberto is a doctor, he was able to handle it.

Sara, I feel confident that it will be Cris and Aldonza at the end, even if this TN is different than the usual fare.

David, thanks for the explanation. That's good stuff to know. I like that with this show, I can throw out a theory like sugar pills and it actually *could* be possible, but it might not be, but we won't know until somebody says so. Refreshing!

Sara, if they hadn't given us the big red-dress moment in the promo, I'd think that Renato was a serious contender. I still do think he's a serious contender, but it's like the credits keep saying "Don't get attached, he's not the one," while at the same time giving us seemingly insurmountable obstacles. So he is, but he can't be, but how can he not be....

doris, and when I think about the fact that Cande already knew that Val had faked it, that means really all her anger had nothing to do with that at all, and was all about Roberta...QTH!

HellaShelle, I forgot to mention Sev's smirk...he totally got off on Cande causing a scene, didn't he?!

OMG Sev's smirk. Bastard.

Ok, considered me WOW'ed, both by this episode and by your amazing recap. It was so spot on and as noted by others, I love your little aside comments.

Totally Gob-smacked, as they say, at events last night.

Boy, years of being the straight-laced, bitter, deprived matriarch really just burst a blood vessel in Cande's brain last night. And she has the nerve to claim Cris is making himself a laughing stock associating with Allie. Uh, so no one in town knows really about Roberta and Sev, so most could care less I'm guessing ( well, except their teeny tiny circle). In her warped little brain she didn't think exploding in the house of God, in what I'm sure is a very religious community isn't going to make HER the laughingstock?

Sev's fondly remembering Roberta made me want to hurl after what he did to her daughter.

Thank you Melesio for that talk with Cris. I may be ticked at him for not giving E-Man the ability to explain himself, but he did hit the nail on the head as you say with what Val pulled. I like the fact they didn't go to the TN cliche of the galan immediately buying into the attempt and declaring undying love to appease the manipulator. Keep it that way.

The minute I saw Val open that cabinet I knew what she was going to do. And the fact she called Cris...yes, so planned. Had a "friend" who pulled this on her fiance when he dumped her, and deservedly so and it was almost exactly how Val pulled this off, convincing everyone. Fortunately, the chick I knew had a big mouth and started confiding to girlfriends gleefully how she tricked him back. Said girlfriends were disgusted and let him know. Parents shipped the girl out of town to relatives for a long "vacation". Worst and stupidest thing you could do to ANYONE.

Oh, and I put Val's picture right back up on the dart board...all nice and fresh with the fake crying eyes. Have it at folks.

Don't worry, Mari is up there too. Poor E-man, swearing off love and women. Right now, probably a good move. He needs a hug and I gladly volunteer.

Renato got an eyeful. Honestly, how the blazes do Cris and Allie get together with his lunatic parents? Frankly, if it was me, I'd be like "Sorry I loved you, maybe still do but I have my sanity to keep." And then realize I have this amazing No. 2 I could really learn to love giving me doe eyes.

I still want a Padre J slap down. had no idea it would come from Cande losing it like she did, but I want it now!

Daisynjay

"Sorry I loved you, maybe still do but I have my sanity to keep." Yes, daisynjay, that's definitely what she seems to be saying, at least for now. Hmmm, that's right, Renato witnessed the madness...I wonder what he's thinking.

Excellent Hellashelle.

"silently confers with her reflection. They come to decision"

"Even Hum bought the act! (Guess he’s not that great of a doc after all)"

Didn't Aldonza tell PJ and Renato she cannot deny her love for Cris? Today she brushes his declaration off like a fly, as if he's a madman. She's a liar. Come on Aldonza, tell Cris, my hate for Severiano and Cande is greater than my love for you and if you are stupid enough to come around I get to punish you for being their spawn.

Dominga - need a fact checker

Cande - pussy riot

Mari - delusional groupie

Cris - son of a bitch

Severiano - oh yeah, there's some crazy under that bun

PJ - hallelujah, I dodged a bullet

Lola - dry up

Uriel - Lurch

I"m going to throw this out there because for some reason this hit me last night...

What is the significance of the RED dress in the credit end? We actually right before that get a glimpse of Allie in an amazing white (guessing wedding) dress standing on a balcony, then we close with her and Cris at the waterfall, but now she's in red.

So far in this TN, whenever anyone is wearing red, it's not been because they are manipulator or someone who is cheating, etc. Think Mari, Simonetta, even Roberta wore it.

So why would they put Allie in red? Now this is bugging me.

Daisynjay

"Cris - son of a bitch"

Mopping up my coffee. Brilliany one tofie!

Daisynjay

Daisynjay, I think the red dress signifies doing what one wants without a care of what others think and living life on ones own terms.

tofie, I had a different take on Aldonza. I think she took his declaration very seriously, not lightly at all. She does love him, and she's comfortable saying that to anyone who's NOT him, and she probably felt "safe" that he was going to be married to someone else and unreachable. Now he's saying he called off the engagement and that makes it risky for her to admit to him that she's still as attracted to him as he is to her. Because then how can she justify them not being together? Yeah, she is lying, no way around that, but the last time she tried to have a relationship with him his dad raped her to get her out of town. I don't think she's punishing him, she's just trying to protect herself. All the attacks on her are because of Cris' interest in her (though at this point, Sev has transcended that, and he'd be gunning for her regardless). It's self-preservation. If anyone's punishing Cris, it's his parents. And Val. And Pru.

And your Sev line is right on...he likes 'em crazy. Simoneta's going to have to step up her game.

cathyx, I agree about the red dress. It represents freedom. I don't think Mari's dress qualifies, though...which is also significant. It's like she tried to wear a red dress, but she couldn't fully commit. Nothing good comes from that.

Alejandra Barros is a good villan!

I liked how she slapped Aldonza the same way she did to Luc on Quiero Amarte.

My point is through no fault of his own, Aldonza is withholding her love and without an honest conversation with him, the rebuff has to be confusing. Now if she is unaware her rebuff harmful, I give her some slack, but if she knows it hurts him, loses it momentarily and passionately kisses him, only to "pretend" he means nothing to her, then she is punishing him for something he can never address nor rectify to her satisfaction.

I can see that on the red dress- I just wish they weren't then throwing it out there so symbolically with the likes of Mari and Simonetta. They may be exerting "freedom" but not on terms that have been the best for others.

Daisynjay

should have said NOT been the best for others. That is my cue to get off my Kindle and go back to work :)

Daisynjay

The red dress on Aldi at end of opening credits ---- I figured red stands out; it is a color that grabs one's eyes and attention (Nancy Reagan wore red a lot for that reason). Against all that nature & green background, Aldonza would be lost in any other color. That has been my thinking, but what do I know?

Patio peeps - what we see in the opening credits is not always seen in the telenovela. I learned that ages ago, either with MEPS or STuD.

tofie, I agree, none of this is Cris' fault. (He is being willfully ignorant about his parents, 'cause they've shown some not-so-nice sides and he keeps ignoring that, though at the same time he has no idea that they have anything to do with the reason Aldonza doesn't want to be with him.) I just don't think she has total control over things like being magnetically drawn to his lips--so she tries to stay away from him, but he keeps coming around. Heck, even at the party, she was trying to get away and he came looking for her. Sure, she kissed him, but that was a kiss. She didn't agree to start a meaningful long-term relationship and then take it back.

(It's nice to have something to actually debate instead of it all being such a mess that the only conclusion is "this whole show sucks!")

Thanks, HellaShelle! Maaaahvelous recap, Girl! You captured every important moment and emotion of this exciting episode! Did not see Cande going postal in the Church coming! All these stories have a Priest in them but if the baddies, who are often enthusiastic pew warmers abided by one tenth of what the Priests deliver over the pulpit, the story couldn't even begin. The only "turning the other cheek" Cande knows about is doing so through the force of a slap. She's indignant that even Roberta's ashes rest in the church! How dare she!

Tight braids, sexual frustration, religious hypocrisy, lusting after the priest and malignant envy unbounded even by death: that's Cande's fuel. Glad Cris was there to drag her ass out! Hella, you take Mari, I'll take Cande: she needs to have the taste slapped out of her mouth!

Mel hits the nail on the head and says that’s because Cris is noble and thinks everyone else is too, but they’re not.

That's it! Combine this with Cris is not concerned with social status or schmoozing with the town folk, he really is juuuust beginning to feel the strings tuggie at his extremities but there is no string on his heart. Now, Aldonza rejects him, which I totally get but she did NOT have to encourage him with all that grabbing and deep kissing she was doing with him.

Like someone said yesterday, Cris was more full of fire when he first came back from Spain but Aldonza's disappearing act quenched his flames. Well, her kiss "yesterday" rekindled them but now she's running cold again.

I'm not real fond of a doe-eyed galan but that's better than dumb-eyed galan (Octavio, Pablo). I'm still at Cris's table but I hope we can see the return of some fire soon.

Thanks Hella and thank you Eli for yesterday, REALLY enjoyed it!

The red dress is there to distract us so we don't notice when they switch out Cris for Renato.

Just kidding.

Love reading yall's comments. And cathyx I like your interpretation of the red dress.

It's nice to have something to actually debate instead of it all being such a mess that the only conclusion is "this whole show sucks!"

Word. After recapping swill for a year, it's nice to have a good, meaty show.

Hi all. Thanks for the thumbs ups!

This show is awesome. really wanted to spend some more time on it (that church scene...WOW. I did not capture my shock enough), but I was exhausted, so I'm glad it came out ok.

I was holding out hope that Hum did know what Val did, but is so disturbed by her fake attempt that he's trying to figure out what to do, but if that was the case I imagine he'd at least tell Pru.

Poor Pru! She's completely out of the loop and really suffering for it. Yes she hates Aldonza for how Aldonza affects her and her family, but she's really upset about Val and wants her to be happy. She wants Val to have what she wants. Cande, on the other hand, seems to completely ignore what her son wants in favor of her own vision.

daisy, with everything that happened and with so much to say, I forgot to comment on the scene where Sev actually seemed genuinely upset at Roberta's memory.

Thank you for reminding me.

As this is the most emotion he has genuinely exhibited,I'm not understanding any of it. Is it simply because she is dead?

Whatever the motivation, it is truly disgusting in light of what he did not only to Roberta, but to Aldonza. It seems as though he transferred the hatred he had toward Roberta when she was alive to Aldonza. He has not one ounce of guilt or remorse for the rape.

Perhaps it's best we don't understand the true evil that inhabitates his head and heart.

Wonderful comments today - wish I weren't at work so I could add more.

Diana

I plead guilty of liking this galan and it is really hard for me so should I gush more, please forgive in advance. That said, one boneheaded move and back to gnashing of my teeth on his posterior.

If Cris and Aldonza cannot be together because of the rape, unfortunate, but I get it, however, the last thing he may contemplate is his own father doing this and his mother at best complicit. Even he had a hard time processing Val purposefully attempting suicide. We can call him naive and sheltered, but give the boy some facts and bet his behavior different.

HellaShelle, I don't know if it's possible to capture that level of shock. It was so unexpected. I'm remembering the ads for some scary movie where they showed the reactions of people watching it. That's probably what I looked like...mouth hanging open, frozen, staring at the screen. If I'd been eating popcorn it would have fallen right out.

"The red dress is there to distract us so we don't notice when they switch out Cris for Renato."
ROFLOL!!!!!

I enjoyed the Roberta flashbacks last night.

tofie, I think Cris will come around when he as all the facts. It's going to be a lot for him to deal with, but at least he's got that light bulb over his head, flickering.

Which is better than some of the more recent galans who lacked a light bulb entirely.

"(It's nice to have something to actually debate instead of it all being such a mess that the only conclusion is "this whole show sucks!")

Amen Kat. I sometimes feel sorry this one is so much shorter than the LONNNNGGGG dreks we've suffered through. But I'm sure that is a good thing and what is keeping this moving along a a faster clip and keeping the writing honest. Not to mention the cast...lord the cast.

Diana, I honestly think there was something about Roberta that Sev admired and misses. She had fire and passion and face it, since then he's had Cold-hearted Cande around and Simonetta, who I'm sorry, is no Roberta. He didn't treat Rob well when he had her, and amazing what regrets and seeing what you have now versus what you could have had makes your brain do.

Sometimes I wonder if he wants in Allie what he had in Roberta, even if he has to force his way to it. Jerk

Daisynjay

Severiano owned Roberta so he believes Aldonza his property to use and abuse at will, believing she will respond ultimately as her mother.

Roberta was one of a kind. *sob*

Yeah, I still miss her. I like that she's gone, but not gone. Everyone keeps remembering her, talking about her. Eh, not always in the nicest way, but her memory is definitely being kept alive.

Daisynjay, you may be on to something. *shudder*

I agree with red as freedom. I think red has been the mark o the "other women" and technically, Aldonza has been that. I think her in the red dress at the end, with her "true love" represents her triumphing over that title to get the end goal, freely, openly, overcoming the stigma and rumors and getting to "the right way" of having a relationship.

Tofie-Mel's comment last night helped pull my chair in a little on Cris's table. You're right, he really doesn't know what's going on. He doesn't even really know that Al hates his dad, much the less why. Renato, at least, knows that Sev ran them out of down by applying pressure. Cris doesn't even know his dad has a lover, while Renato had those blinders removed even before Roberta came along. Cris still thinks people will react rationally and temper negative emotions like jealous, anger, and hurt against facts, instead of just ignoring facts. Maybe, being a lawyer, Renato's had more experience with the way people twist or ignore facts to suit their purpose.

So I'm pulling for Cris. He'll rise to the occasion, I'm sure. Still love Ren though. Hope someone worthy comes along for him b/c he's awesome.

tofie, for sure, that's how it works in his mind...but I think she was totally over him and he, clearly, isn't over her.

So who really got owned, eh, Sev?

I hope Aldonza's scheme makes him realize that, right before the end. It's all been in his own head. He never owned anyone or anything. Not Roberta, not Aldonza, not El Santuario or Las Animas, certainly not Cande, not Cris. Even Simoneta is lying to him about why she's in town.

I may or may not have cackled maliciously while writing that.

"Maybe, being a lawyer, Renato's had more experience with the way people twist or ignore facts to suit their purpose." Good point, HellaShelle.

Severiano owned Roberta so he believes Aldonza his property to use and abuse at will, believing she will respond ultimately as her mother.

Tofie, you are so right and that just galls me! That "they" let him actually "kiss" her on the same day that she then surrendered to Cris's kiss -- what the hell is up with that! As someone said yesterday, Sev licks his chops everytime he looks at her. This sexual violaation by and lusting after the Leading Lady by the Leading Man's father is just infuriating and disgusting to me! I came too late to comment yesterday but I'm right there with Sara and all the graphic violence she described that should happen to Sev. Poor Aldonza and poor Cris. What the hell do you do with knowledge that your father raped the woman you love for crying out loud!

I hope to gosh the red dress is not supposed to symbolize her being "spoiled" or "damaged goods" or represent a scarlet letter or something!

Severiano treats everyone the same, as if he owns them and most buckle. Roberta killed her husband to save his sorry ass and she was likely gonna die that very night. It took Severiano raping Aldonza for her to finally have enough.

Renato has the unfortunate luxury of knowing his daddy cheated on his mother so no wonder the blinders are off.

"We can call him naive and sheltered, but give the boy some facts and bet his behavior different."

I like this tofie. Up to this point we've kind of seen an Aldonza-centric story. Her history and how she is reacting to events. Cris has almost been a footnote. (At least to me.)

Now I'm hoping we a more Cris-centric story. His finding out about events, dealing with his feelings etc. I am NOT anti-Cris. He just needs to be brought more into the loop.

Once he knows all the facts, we can move onto the part of the story where Cris and Aldonza work through the obstacles so they can be together.

I think all of us at Cris's table understand he's operating without MAJOR facts and is feeling the full thrust of his mother's obsessive manipulation for the first time i his life, really. The way she walked in his bedroom yesterday! Sev is not the only one who thinks he owns people, Cande certainly thinks she owns Cris, thought she owned Padre J and is furious that she had her ownership of Sev violated by Roberta. I can't even imagine what Cris's reaction would be to have the whole truth dumped on him at once! I wouldn't blame him if he caught the first thing smoking back to Spain!

Big question is will Severiano up the ante in doing WORSE things like Feo did on PSMA ?

A.) Yes
B.) No

Having a bad feeling we're going to see the body count increase here.

Do I come off anti-Chris? I'm not. He's not perfect, but he certainly hasn't done anything irredeemable. And I'm not against him with Aldonza. I'm also not against Renato with Aldonza. I'm not sure how they're going to make it happen and make it seem believable, and that seems like a nearly impossible task, but I don't not want it to happen. I think I'm just content to see how it plays out.

Actually, I got Cris on a short leash and if things continue as they have, the way momma and daddy treat him, he better head out and take that job like he said he would after the wedding. What's that now, a week?

At least Renato doesn't have his parents all up in his face at home and under no pressure to move out on his own.

I have no sense of time. It should be about a week. Yes, please, go to the DF and work. Get some distance and perspective. Carpool back to SL with Renato. Talk about stuff.

I do like that it doesn't have to be a matter of choosing between staying in Santa Lucia or going to the DF. They've already shown us that Renato goes back and forth easily enough. So he could go start the job and still come back for weekends if he wants to.

I need to take a Cris break to rant about Mari. When she told Dominga that E said he had no choice because Lola just wasn't understanding, I almost saw red. Isn't it enough that she forced the kiss and blamed him, now she's actually putting words in his mouth? What is it with this chick?! I am SO GLAD that E voice my thoughts when he asked her what was up and didn't buy into the idea that he didn't remember what happened. What kind of entitled biotch thinks that you can treat people this way, and they'll just forgive you because you like them? Qth?!

I thought they'd only been back about a week and they were supposed to be in SL for a couple of months.

lol, HellaShelle, ok, we can go there...most of what I have to say is "yep!" Although, I can add a "How the hell old is she supposed to be?! Who acts this way?!" She really did expect her fabulous besos to open his eyes and make him realize that she's the one he wants. Except for NO! FAIL! Go directly to Soltera Land! Do Not Pass Go! Do Not Collect Renato! (I think at one point he seemed like an option, but oh, hell no! She would need 2 lifetimes to grow up enough for that.)

It wasn't comforting Dominga slurped up what Mari served her though. It just proves everybody has always viewed Emmanuel as a non entity, never wanted to know the guy or what he is made of, and can so easily believe he's capable of mistreating these girls. He's another that should leave town in order to find some respect and a little peace.

No Diva, I don't think you or anyone else is anti-Cris. I'm at Cris's table but I love Renato and even though Aldonza says she has plans into which no man figures, she NEEDS someone level headed and forward thinking like Renato because all she has "defended" herself with so far is the resolve to honor the pledge she made to her mother and weak "let me gos" which don't mean SHIT to Sev, as a matter of fact probably turn him on!

Cris has the worst obstacle I have ever seen separating him from his beloved and he doesn't even know what it is! He's got a LOT to over come to win, not Aldonza's love, cause she does love him, but to convince her that the two of them can take on the sickos and psychos in his own family and town for the right for them to express and live that love!

Knowing that WE know what he has to face, they need to write some fire and spine back in him. I'm hoping the scene in the Church was the beginning of that!

I'm at the "mis planes" table. I want to see some vengeance! Let 'er rip! The guys? Eh, either is fine, Renato just comes with less baggage. How sad when the guy you busted snogging your mom that one time is the less awkward father-in-law candidate.

I'm a fan of Cris as well. Your heart has to go out to this kid and especially knowing what he will most likely find out by the end of this thing. Say what you will about Sev, but Cris admires him and I think until recent events, he's been close to him and good to him. Sure Cris' parent have a crap marriage, but that's not exactly unheard of.

I agree, Renato already went through the disenchantment moment with his parent, but it will be nothing compared to what Cris will go through. Kat, I agree it's almost boggling to try and think how this is all going to play out and who will suffer in what way as it all spills. I think we all need to load up on wine and kleenex for the patio as that begins to unravel.

I will say, and this is just personal preference, but as Allie's only father figure and knowing he is so pretective of her, I basically want to see out man of the cloth throw away the collar and beat the crap out of Sev. Not kill him, let that anvil happen in another fashion.

Daisynjay

Forgot to add....I DON'T want to see Renato in the predictable "we need to kill you off" cliche just to put Allie only with Cris. Been a long time since I've been really okay with both the galans vying for the girl.

Daisynjay

Hola amiguis--Gotta jump in right now, off the bat. I'm all caught up. Have only finished 1/2 the comments, so this may be a duplicate thought.

After the "suicide" attempt, Val told Cande she knew what she was doing. She only took a couple of pills and threw the rest away.

As for taking her to the hospital to have Vale's stomach pumped, that's the last thing Hum & Pru would have wanted. There would have been a *record* in the hospital of her suicide attempt, faked or not and tongues would was all over Ste. Lucy. These "high society" folk are all about 'no gossip should be circulated about them,' only 'gossip about others is worthy of circulation.'

Thank you, all the recappers for telling this story in such wonderful detail. I'm loving this tn, too. It's the best that has come along in prime time since, well, maybe, Amor Bravio and Reina de Corazones. I look forward to sticking in my nose and adding my two cents (and sense).

Ok, back to the comments. It sure takes a lot of time to read through them all and do them justice, but it's worth it.

P.S. Susanlynn--I got a big laugh out of your tablet correcting 'cruel' yesterday to 'ecru elk.' This first thing I thought of after I wiped my tears away was suggesting you write 'ecru elk' and see if tablet would change it to 'cruel.'

If they make Renato go crazy, I will quit, I tell you! That would be a worse insult than all the offenses of LG combined.

Nice to see you, Anita!

I'm the victim of auto-correct (or more probably an unedited typo), but you all can probably figure out I meant tongues would wag all over...

or if either Cris or Renato jump out of a ditch onto a jogging path in a mime costume.

To paraphrase my grandsons, this episode was HARSH. Cande and Mari are both so déclassé. My Pru is just plain stupid, but, a woman with style. (Love her clothes and hair)

Can't believe anyone (Cande) would crash a funeral mass and make such a disrespectful scene. I read Jane Peppler's note yesterday, and sorry to see La Sombra will be ending so soon. She said AnnaBrenda would be back. I read she was through with acting, also love Ingrid Martz, will give that one a try as well.

Looking forward to joining the peeps tonight.

emeraldrose - we will have this at least through the summer. The dates in that post were for Mexico.

or if either Cris or Renato jump out of a ditch onto a jogging path in a mime costume.

Please...please, no...just...no.

Yeah, PJ's the only thing close to a father figure. Joaquin straight up looks like he could be a suitor. They should've grayed his hair or something.

Anita - good point about the stomach pumping, though I would have liked to have seen Hum at least insist on it and have Pru/Cande/Val shut him down.

Daisynjay - Been a long time since I've been really okay with both the galans vying for the girl.

Yeah, I agree. It's nice. And I think this show has enough integrity not to make Renato go nuts. I actually could see them killing him off, in a attempt to save Aldie or something, but I don't think they need it for drama. Sombra's a good strong burn, not a flash in the pan.

OMG, tofie, yes please, NO MIMES! I will perhaps grant an exception if there's ever a scene in Paris and the mime is on screen for less than 30 seconds.

emeraldrose, I join you in your love of Pru's style.

Word, HellaShelle! This show is a good...strong...slow.... Uh, I'm sorry, what were we talking about?

I have a crush on Joaquin. Just thought I'd say that. Doesn't add to the conversation, I just felt y'all needed to know.

Noted.

Is there any non-skeevy guy on this show who doesn't have somebody crushing on them (is that the proper terminology)?

Diva! Wow! Where is your mind going, lady? :D

Also, yes that's the proper terminology.

Sara - you have good taste:) Very interested to see how THAT works out. Always complex when there are kids involved.

Uh, sorry...I was a bit deprived after the last show....

Sara.......what a relief, I misunderstood. This is such a good story, I hated to see it end so soon.

And Diva....mimes give me the creeps. The mime sceen in TSTSNBN was the last straw when it came to thinking of ecDaniel A. as sexy.

We, Melesio may be an good guy, but can't say I"m crushing there. I maybe more Mel's age, but I shamefully admit to mainly crushing on the BodSquad members, of which I include Cris as a member. It's the perks of watching these shows for us older gals. Dafely drooling in the safety of our own living rooms.

Daisynjay

This is true. I'm not into Mel like that. Mostly what I would like from him is to stop pretending that Sev is such a great guy. Or, I guess it's not "pretending," since that's really what he thinks, but he's ignored a lot of facts to get to that.

emeraldrose--yep, Daniel A lost his sexy. Willy Boy 4eva! I'll have to try to forget he ever played any other role.

I don't think Sev's ever asked Mel to do anything underhanded. Mel may suspect the cheating part, but I don't think anything else Sev does is that obvious. He may get special favors at the bank, but who's to say how far he takes that, outside of his shutting Sev down? Putting pressure on people is hard to prove and his public face is way different from his behind the scenes persona. He's like a politician.

He knows the story about how Sev lost his arm is a lie. He and Dominga basically agreed to ignore their suspicions about everything that happened that night.

So, he didn't help cover up what happened, but he didn't expose it, either.

Diva.....love me some Willie Boy as well. DaisynJay I am getting too old for even Melesio I have become, not my mother, but my grandmother.

Mercy when did this happen?

Hella--Ooh Late to the party, must say it was a recap par excellence! (put the French accent in there please).

I spent too much time on Zillow during the commercial break and came back to see Cande and Ald fighting over Roberta's ashes! Whoa! Must never navigate away during commercial!

On the topic of non-Skeevy hottoes (is that right?), I do find Uriel's quite, sensible good looks and gentlemanly ways to be quite attractive. Also Renato's dad isn't bad, since we are casting the net wiiiiide.

J-I have to agree with you about Renato's dad. I'm a big Archy LaFranco fan. Love him. I can see the Uriel attraction, too.

OT: There is ONE thing that I miss very, very much about TSTSNBN - and one thing only: Sara's "grumpy" recaps. They were hilarious and the only thing I had to look forward to on her nights.

Is that sarcasm? I seem to recall most of the Anon comments about my "grumpy" recaps were rather negative. Hell there was even a call for my impeachment. Good times.

5ft Diva, I know you're talking about me and my crush on Abelardo, lol.

As far as Cris is concerned, I'm agnostic about him right now. But he's at a crossroad right now and depending on his next moves, I will love him or hate him.

I'm not sure why divorce is out of the question for Severiano, but Cande hasn't given any candy to him for a long time, just sayin'. So if it's actually a legitimate reason for not divorcing, I can see why he's straying.

I'm glad Anonymous didn't read my recaps for Corazon Indomable. My recaps would have been described as disgusted.

Cathyx - It could just be the money factor, since Las Animas is Cande's. He seemed to confirm that when talking to Cris in an earlier eppy, so maybe there's a prenup?

It could be a prestige thing. That town is very gossip hungry. Maybe the scandal really would affect their day to day lives negatively.

Or maybe he maybe he thinks he can win her back and he refuses to give up?

Or maybe he just really loves her, in his own sick way.

No, Sara, not sarcasm. I really did enjoy those recaps and was never one of those negative Anons. I thought it was funny that they didn't "get you" and would shrug and figure, "their loss."

Couldn't stomach CI, so I did miss those recaps. My loss (not sarcasm).

Anon 4:36

Anon4:36- I have to tell you that the CI recaps were deliciously grumpy. It was classic stuff.

Just think Cande was a means to an end from the beginning for Severiano. He was cheating on her from the start, made no difference if he was gettin any at home or not.

Hellashell, thank you for an amazing recap! When I watched the episode I almost had a heart attack, I could not believe that Cande would lose it and cause such a huge scene-the very refreshing thing about this is that everyone knows who the bad guys are and we don't have to wait till the end for them to figure it out!

PS:I can't wait till the weekend recap is up so I can comment more!

Yeah, I hate being forced to say something nice about the recappers. (sarcasm)

Messed up my last comment. I meant to say:

Hey, Eli! Loved your recap, Girl!

Anita, Glad to see you on this board! Welcome to the La Sombra patio!

Lila, thank you!

WOW :-) I am late to the party..so many interesting, insightful comments. What a smart clever bunch the Patio Peeps are.

hellashelle, thanks for that excellent and detailed recap. I especially appreciated it because I was unable to watch.

I loved all the theories on the red dress. Here's mine...I think Al's gorgeous red dress was an homage to the red , satin , swirly, twirly dress her mother wore at the beginning of this show. We started with a beautiful woman in a red dress and will end with a beautiful lady in red.

Sara--ooh yah, I remember that bad-tempered lurker who tried to get you fired. I loved those wacky, angry recaps, they really captured the frustration of the whole patio on TSTSNBN.

Eli, hope your sister's eyes are better.

Susanlynn I love your allegory of the red dress....makes me feel like part of Roberta still lives.

By the way it always amazes me on these shows how people can just be rude to priests and blow them off. Is that allowed?

J in O

Right, J? I keep yelling at the TV "y'all are going to hell! That's a man of the cloth!"

Yah! Padre J is bellowing at Cande in his Wrath-of-God-voice, and she doesn't even flinch?
J.

Respect the Padre!

Cande has just gone off the deep end.

Can he ban her from the church?

I wish he would!

BAN CANDE!

Candela must really be hostile towards Rob!

"Sara--ooh yah, I remember that bad-tempered lurker who tried to get you fired"
Bwahahahahahaaa! And probably with no severance pay? LOL I am so glad I did not watch that one.

Oooh, "severance" looks a bit like "Severiano". eek

Actually I pulled a Sev and gave her a raise instead.

Sorry I probably am the last poster here. I just have to give my rant about this episode. I am really reeling about that postal Cande and all the evil people here, i.e. Val, Maria, Sev, Cande. and Pru. As I have mentioned before, Aldie must be the most slappingest person in all the tns here. what violence. And about Santa Lucia, if it is not that quite far from Mexico city, How come it is so backward and people are so judgemental and the gossips are their bible! I could just laugh at Cande, Pru and even Val and Mari being hypocrites and regarding Roberta and Aldie as whores of the town when in fact they are the ones that are tramps and I guess their reactions are a sort of subconsciously wanting to punish themselves and to avert the real truth from the people of who they really are. I apologize for the duplicate posting. I don't know what went wrong. Anne

Welcome, Anne! Don't worry about the multiple posting--Blogger is being supremely contrary lately. Your observations about subconscious motivations are right on.
