La sombra del pasado #40 4/13/15

Please join me in thanking hellashelle for her recap!! THANK YOU HELLASHELLE!

Rewind: Severiano (Sev) reams Abelardo (Lardo) out. (Renato) Ren’s shirtless post-shower phone convo. (Candela) Cande suspects Sev of cheating. (Cristobal) Cris suspects both of his parents of attempted murder.

Play: Cande goes apoplectic. How dare Cris accuse them of something so low?! How humiliating! Unlike Cande, Cris doesn’t have apparent short term memory loss, so he reminds his mom that she interrupted a funeral mass and slapped the bereaved. That was completely different! Cande insists. (Yes, villains never think the rules apply to them.) Sev steps in to say that what hurts the most is that Cris believes the priest (here he gives Cande a hard look), who’s had Sev entre ceja y ceja (=between eyebrows; had his eyes on him) more than his own parents. This means nothing to Cris, who simply asks again if it was them. Sev screams back that he doesn’t have to take this disrespect. Cande cuts him off and says that it’s one thing for them to hate Aldonza, for obvious reasons, but quite another for them to be criminals. Sev orders Cris to get out of his sight and for a second Cris looks like he thinks he really f*d up with his folks, but then he warns them that if he finds out they’re behind this mess, he himself will denounce them to the police.

Lardo’s telling Tomás that he wanted to get in good with the boss, but he screwed up. The only good thing is that now he can have Valeria when he wants…and Aldonza (Aldie) too (um…say what now?). Tomás doesn’t get it and, frankly, neither do I. Lardo says he’ll explain again once he’s perfected his plan.

Sim has an appointment with Hum. She wants to rent El Santu house. Hum says it’s already rented, paid for a year in advance, and that’s aside from how the tenants have fixed it up. Sim doesn’t know of a contract that can’t be broken and she’s willing to pay 30% over his asking price. She needs an answer quickly though as she in a hurry to move in. Hum says it’s tempting, but no, the contract’s already signed. Sim quotes Slimy Lawyer and says if he returns the money and the tenants don’t move in, then there’s no problem. And she’s got a great lawyer (speak of the devil) who’ll render that contract null and void in seconds. Hum wants to sleep on it.

Aldonza’s barely through Padre Jeronimo’s (PJ) door and already exasperating her tios again. PJ reminds her that the house just got shot up last night, so why is she insisting more than ever that she wants to move into it? Adelina agrees. They’ve been lucky so far that nothing too serious has happened to them. Aldonza’s just as exasperated. Don’t her aunt and uncle see that these people are just trying to scare them into leaving and they’re letting them get away with it! Well, she’s not going to give up, she’s moving in. Adelina again points out that these people are clearly willing to follow up their threats with real, physical violence. No matter to Aldie. She’s made her decision and she’ll accept the risks. She understands if Adelina doesn’t want to do the same; she doesn’t want her aunt to be forced into a situation she’s not comfortable with. But of course, Adelina’s not leaving Aldie to face this alone. Aw, Aldie knew she could count on her aunt. They’ll only get them out of the house if they’re dead! (Um, insensitive much, Aldie? They almost got shot last night!) At least this way, they’ll die for something they believe in, at her parents’ house, which means something to them, rather than just any old where. She leaves and PJ laments her mule headedness and the fact that she’s got more balls than sense.

Pru’s buying some fruit in the marketplace. Tomás sidles up behind her. She thinks he’s just making fun of her by flirting, but he insists he’s really into her. She unconvincingly rebuffs Tomás’s advances until the guy giving her the fruit asks if she’s ok. Tomás offers to carry her bags as a cover.

Aldie is surveying the damage at the house when Cris arrives to do the same. Aldonza’s skeptical; maybe he’s come to cerciorar (to reassure) himself that his parents’ threats came to fruition? Of course not, Cris says. He just confronted them himself and they denied all of it. Aldonza’s like Well, duh. Look, I don’t think you were involved, but your parents will do anything to keep me away from you. And you’re incredibly naïve if you believe them. Cris says he might be naïve, but she has no proof, and for God’s sake they’re his parents. Sadly, this is exactly why Aldonza wants him to leave her alone. Even if they tried to make this work, he’d always be choosing between her and his parents. Who would he put first? Her, Cris says resolutely. Because he loves her. Aldonza is a little taken aback by his firm answer, but says it doesn’t change her mind. Cris says her kisses beg to differ. She tells him to forget that, it was a mistake. He thinks her giving Renato a chance is the real mistake. She tells him to leave Ren out of it, but says that yeah, falling for Ren is a definite possibility because he’s awesome. Cris doesn’t care. He won’t let Ren steal her love. Aldonza sarcastically asks what Cris is planning to do about it as she turns away. Unlike in previous encounters, he doesn’t grab her. In fact, he doesn’t touch her at all, just stands behind and speaks softly into her ear:
I’ll do everything in my power to make sure you don’t leave my side. I’ll make you fall in love with me. And I won’t leave you and I won’t let you go for even an instant because you’re tattooed on my heart. I’ll never let you go. And if you forget me in the day, I’ll show up in your dreams so that you remember how much I love you and that you love me the same way. And so that you’ll understand in your head, but more so in your heart, that our love is forever. Forever.

On that whispered note, he back away, turns and leaves. Aldonza has felt every word; her eyes are glassy with unspoken emotions. There’s clearly a battle within her, but she doesn’t know what to do about it. She watches him for a second and then turns and walks away as well. I gotta say, if Mijares and beautiful, soaring string section weren’t backing him up, Cris’s speech might’ve been terrifying.

Dominga (Dom) is getting fruit in the market. She bumps into Simoneta. “Viviana?” Dominga asks, stricken. “Yes,” answers an equally struck Simoneta. You haven’t forgotten me? Dom says even if a thousand years had passed, she wouldn’t have forgotten the woman who ruined the lives of her son and granddaughter.

Back at Las Animas, the demons are hungry. They ask one of the back up servants to serve lunch since Dom isn’t back yet. Cris walks by and Cande asks if he’s eating. Sev adds “in case we should leave so you don’t have to eat with criminals.” Cris is not amused. He’ll eat later. Cande says he should apologize and recognize that all Aldie wants is to drive them apart with her lies. Is PJ lying too? Cris asks. Sev, with another look at Cande, says yes.

Simoneta/Viviana wants to know who Dom is to judge her. Just the mother of the man that was your husband. And grandmother of the daughter you abandoned. Does that seem small to you? Sim/Viv looks admonished. Dom wants to know what she’s doing there. Sim says it’s none of her business. Dom says it most certainly is. Sim/Viv better not get anywhere close to Lola. Sim/Viv is dead and buried to Lola and it’s gonna stay that way. Sim/Viv disagrees. Dom says Sim/Viv might’ve birthed Lola, but Dom’s been a real mother to her and won’t let Sim/Viv hurt her girl. Sim/Viv says she’s not out to hurt Lola. With tears in her eyes, Dom warns Sim/Viv that she and Mel will kill before they see Lola hurt. Dom, looking scared by the depth of her own conviction, leaves. Once away from Sim/Viv she lets tears fall as she angrily and desperately asks God why WHY?!

Lardo is surveying his criminal work when Aldonza walks up. Lardo has come to tell Aldie who shot up her house. Aldie says everyone knows who did it, they just don’t dare say it. It might not be who she thinks, he hints. She tells him to say what he came to say and leave. Lardo informs her that he’s Sev’s right…left…right? hand man now and offers to be a double agent. Wouldn’t she love to know if/when Sev is planning something against her? He could be the (cracked) window into Sev’s (dark and twisted) mind. Smiling, Aldie strolls up to Lardo until they’re almost nose to nose. What does he want for this service? Oh, you know what I want, Lardo slimes. His hands are going towards her hips. They’ve barely grazed her when Aldie knees him in the little bits! Whoo! Have the producers been on the patio? Has Aldonza actually taken some self defense classes? Or is this just a regular “next time, get him in the nuts!” response? Doesn’t matter! A free round at the Naughty Melon in celebration! Lardo crumbles and stumbles away as Aldonza tells him to get lost before she calls the cops on his sorry ass.

Tomás has brought Pru’s fruit all the way into the house, but she tells him to leave it on the table. Of course, he says, pushing up on her again. Whatever his girlfriend wants. Pru tells him not to be silly. She doesn’t even want to think about what would happen if her husband found out. The doctor will never know; no one will tell him (um, does he live in the same SL the rest of us have come to know?). He urges her, verbally and physically (guys in SL are grabby!), to let herself get carried away because he’s going to make her live again. Pru practically bends over backwards to avoid his kisses, but she’s just about to give in when her servant, Juanita, comes in from the kitchen. Pru and Tomás twist apart immediately and Pru gives the trademark unnecessary explanation of the guilty. She gives Tomás-Just-The-Deliveryboy a tip as she hustles Juanita off to the kitchen to put away the groceries and Tomás leaves his card with her. I’m just wondering what a gigolo puts on his card when Tomás explains, arm draped over Pru’s shoulders, that it’s a card for his dad’s mechanic shop where he helps out sometimes. It’s got his contact info. He looks forward to hearing from his girl later.

Mel approaches Cris and compliments him. No one would guess he’s the boss; he works just as hard as the others. Cris points out he’s not the dueño, his dad is. Mel asks how things are with his folks and Cris shares the latest drama. Mel says he can’t accuse them without proof and advises Cris to apologize. Cris protests, but Mel says apologizing doesn’t mean he has to give up what he believes, it just helps him stay humble. Cris grudgingly agrees. Mel is just glad Cris is one of the young people that takes advice…though he feels bad about the advice that led Cris to break his engagement. Cris tells him not to worry; that was the best advice he’s taken with respect to his almost wedding.

Aldie sits in the house, remembering Cris’s earlier speech. Her thoughts are interrupted by the phone. It’s Ren. He’s worried about the shooting and thinks maybe they should hire security. Aldonza says she’ll ask around to see if there’s someone trustworthy (in this bowl of snakes? Good luck). She asks how Ren is. He’s struggling. Being in the house, seeing his mom’s things…She tells him to give it time. He just wants to leave and come to her. It’s all he’s thinking about. Aldie tells him to be patient, but she’s here for him. He’s thanking her when Silvia, unseen, starts coming into his office. Hearing him on the phone, she stops. Ren tells Aldie when he wraps up things at the office, he’ll come to SL; they still have things to do. She tells him to take his time. He agrees and sends hellos to her aunt and uncle and a big kiss to her. Silvia is crushed.

A hysterical Dominga approaches PJ in the church. He knew, didn’t he! He knew and he didn’t say anything! That’s why he was asking Lola all of those questions! PJ’s like Qth? Dominga says Viviana, Lola’s mom, is alive! And she’s in SL! Why didn’t he tell them?! Why is she here?! PJ is gobsmacked. He sits her down to explain. It’s simple: She and Mel lied to Lola. Her mom is alive. And she’s back in Santa Lucia.

Simoneta is startled by Sev being in her hotel room when she arrives. He’s there because he’s supposed to take her to her new rental place. Or did she forget? Clearly on edge, she spills the fruit as she tells him she was in the market and will be ready in a minute. Suspicious, Sev asks what her deal is. Sim says he just surprised her by being in her room already. How did he manage that? He’s Sev Mendonza, that’s how. On second thought, he tells her it’s best she go to the house by herself. They shouldn’t be seen leaving the hotel together.

Adelina complains that the taxis in town don’t want to come all the way to the Santu house. Aldonza thinks they should get a car, but Adelina thinks she’s blowing through her inheritance pretty quickly. Aldonza says taxis are slow, inconvenient and also expensive and they need to get around. Adelina grumbles that maybe Aldonza needs a car, what with “sus planes.”

Now Cande’s the one surprising her partner. She’s waiting for Sev in his office at home to talk about Cris and Aldonza (of course. Is there literally nothing else in this woman’s life?). She thinks it’s time to play their last card: telling Cris about Sev’s affair with Roberta!

Joaquin, having heard about the shooting, comes by the house to see how things are. Aldonza thinks it’s not that serious, but Adelina snaps that that’s because she wasn’t
there, with bullets whizzing around her. Aldonza swears it’s Sev, but Adelina reminds her when her mom accused Sev of burning the farm without proof, all she did was become a bigger laughingstock in town. (El tiro le salió por la culata = the shot came out of the butt = it backfired on her). Joaquin backs Adelina up.

Sev is completely against Cande’s plan. Are they going to tell Cris what they did with the product of the affair too? Because she was in on that part. Sev says they’d only turn Cris further against them and Rob and Aldie would look like the victims (um…maybe because they are?). Cande’s willing to take the risk. Cris interrupts their argument. He’s come to apologize for accusing them earlier. This is not enough for Cande. He still doesn’t recognize that all of their problems are – all together now – because of Aldonza. Sev plays the game better. With much affection, he also apologizes to Cris and tells him to guard his temper better in the future. Cris agrees. He and his mom trade annoyed looks.

Pru and Juanita are looking for a lost shirt and Em’s room is the last place to check. Annoyed Pru says she’ll look for it herself and shoos Juanita out. She finds Em’s chocolate house in the closet and decides it’s hers since she’s had to put up with Em. Also, because it’s pretty and she wants it.

Em, meanwhile, is chasing Lola down. He just wants her to know that he misses her. Lola’s touched for a second before she’s mad again. He should’ve thought of that before he kissed Mari. Lola wants something from Em. He jumps to attention, ready to give it; what is it? She wants the candy house back.

Dom’s calmed down some. PJ asks why she and Mel lied. Dom explains she and Mel didn’t want Lola to feel that her mother didn’t love her and just abandoned her. They didn’t think Viviana would ever come back. She took off and left Lola with her dad, Santiago. When he died in the car accident, Mel and Dom took Lola in. So everything about their story is true, except the part about Lola’s mom being involved. PJ is shocked and a little disillusioned, realizing that Lola’s not Roberta’s long lost love/hate child. Dom wants to know what she should do. What if Viv tells Lola the truth? PJ says Dom and Mel need to talk to Lola. It’s better she hears the truth from them than from the stranger her mother is to her now.

E, rapidly walking backwards in front of a storming Lola, doesn’t think it’s fair that Lola asked for the candy house back. Lola doesn’t think it’s fair that he kissed Mari. Aside from that, the house was important to Doña Marga. It was given to support a true love story, not a fiction. E stops short at this. Lola does too. Ok, E agrees. He’ll give it back. He just wants her to know that– Lola stops him and says he should just go before Mel comes out to yell at him.

Sim/Viv tentatively enters her new house. No ghosts from her past or one armed abusive lovers are waiting for her, so she breathes a sigh of near relief and wonders how all this drama will end.

Joaquin and Aldonza look at the waterfall. Joaquin nostalgically shares that it was her
dad’s favorite spot. Now it’s hers too, she says. The only place she can find a little of the peace that’s missing in the rest of her life. Joaquin remembers sadly that the whole place was once hers. Aldonza wants to know if he’s willing to help her with a business proposition. She’s still planning, but she wants him to be her partner. He’d be delighted to work with Ray’s daughter. What’s the plan? Darn it! We still don’t know because they fade out on the conversation.

Irma has bought Adelina a pair of canaries as a housewarming gift to show that not everyone in SL wants them gone. (My cynical mind immediately thinks those birds are going to be killed at some point and serve as a warning.) Adelina thanks her, but wants to know why she’s being so nice to them. Well, Lola’s told Irma so much about them, she feels like she’s known them forever. Adelina says that if Irma had come a bit earlier, she would’ve run into her son. They both think it’s odd that he came to see Aldie since they’ve never gotten along.

Turns out Lola was on her way to meet Cris, in town, away from his angry mother. She tells him Aldie loves him a ton, but she feels bad because he broke off his engagement with Val and now everyone in town is blaming Aldie for it. Cris protests that it’s not Aldie’s fault, but Lola reminds him this is SL, where the truth doesn’t matter, just appearances. What’s more, Aldie hates that his parents blame her for everything bad that happens to or around him (if only that were the only problem there…). Lola wants to help because she thinks Cris and Aldie are an adorable It couple and they love each other. Cris points out that Aldie’s the first to put up walls between them. He’s told her a million times that their (thus far completely unjustified love at first sight) is forever, but no luck. Lola tells him to keep at it or someone will comerle el mandado (=take advantage of the situation. Literally, eat the shopping. I guess like eating the shopping before it’s home to make the person have to buy more?). She doesn’t want to worry him, but Renato’s awesome, treats Aldie like a queen and is super hot. More importantly, Aldie feels something for Renato.

Lardo’s apologizing to Sev for his misstep. He reminds Sev that he did get the house renting thing right. Sev orders him to be on hand for Simoneta. He gives him money for that and pays him, even though apparently Lardo stills owes Sev, because he wants Uriel to think the job’s going well. Lardo again takes note of the drawer, which has Rob’s gun and loads of cash. Sev warns Lardo that if he doesn’t stay in line, Sev will have less compassion than the guys that beat him up.

Looking forward to reading hellashelle's recap later. Busy day, so not sure I'll be able to comment until late tonight. I was so glad that the Lola mystery was solved. But poor Padre has to start his investigations into the missing baby all over again. Think outside the girl box, Padre!

I have to agree with Sever about Cande's plan to tell Cris about his and Roberta's affair. It's dumb and I don't see what it's supposed to achieve. Does she think that will end Cris' feelings for Aldonza? I think she's just jealous of Cris' relationship with Sever and wants Cris to feel sorry for her. She wants to justify her church outburst by making herself the victim.

Nice to learn a tiny bit more about Aldonza's plans. She called it a business venture and brought on Joaquin to help her. Wonder if she's chosen some new, profitable crop to grow.

Loved Al kneeing Lardo in the groin. LOL!

Oh yes! The knee to the groin was great.

I am really looking forward to your recap hellashelle.

I have to admit I had trouble trying to follow the dialog last night (even though I had a long phone call I would have had trouble anyway).

Vivi, thank you for explaining the gist of Cande's plan to tell all (well at least some) of the history to Cris. I agree with you and Sev that it won't serve any useful purpose. Cande however wants to garner sympathy from Cris. I think that would fall flat too because her actions at the church were so outrageous, there is no excuse on the face of the earth that would ever justify her actions.

And agree with Vivi and Sara that knee in the groin was the highlight of the episode!

Diana

Recap is on the way! Give me a few minutes to fire up the computer and copy and paste.

It's up. I'm going to fix some coffee and deal with some feline issues and be back to savor it.

Cris has psycho parents for sure.

The police likely are in their back pockets considering they own the entire town.

I had to interrupt my reading to tell you how much I liked your writing for the whispered message scene. Beautifully done!

"Lardo informs her that he’s Sev’s right…left…right? hand man now..."

Hahahahaha!!!

Sara: whatever happened to Cande's parents ? They raised an uppity, spoiled brat.

...kneed him in the little bits

hellashelle, you are on fire this morning! Have I thanked you for this recap yet?

Steve-How should I know what happened to Cande's parents? We've repeatedly discussed the fact that we know very little about Cande's past.

I kind of had issues with the canaries as gifts. Animals are a big responsibility and I don't think you should give them to someone who might not want that responsibility. But it's just a show.

Thanks Hellashelle. You have a great writing style that I really enjoy.

Juaquin will now be her partner? With no money on the line? His wife is going to love that.

Can't wait to see what Humberto decides and how that goes down.

Yeah. Flavia is going to jump for joy when she hears about Juaco's new business venture.

I was so frustrated when the audio faded and we got no hint of what Mis Planes were.

Fireproof melons maybe?

Hi all! Happy to hlep out :) I was telling Sara, I'm terrible with titled, maybe I should've called it Double Vision: Lardo's trying to be a double agent, Pru's deciding if she wants to play both sides of a fence, Simoneta's secret identity is Viviana, and Lola's giving secret intel to the other side.

I must admit, Cris's speech definitely would've send the sparklers off in me. That being said, if I had turned the volume off and was just watching that speech with the captions as a beginner I would've had a hard time deciding if he was her lover or an obsessed stalker. Which, sometimes when you're in love, does feel like the same thing.

I continue to love Pru. I don't know why but when she said "this is mine" to herself last night and then stole the candy house, I cracked up. I really wonder where the heck that mini story is going cuz it's super random. Also, she's really beautiful. I can totally believe that the young Tomas might have the hots for her.

Dom did a great job last night, but I hope she and Mel tell Lola the truth quickly and that she gets over it quickly as well.

Going back to the music, can we dicuss how awesome it is? I'll refrain from commenting on it more just now in cast you guys would rather not talk about it at all or would rather wait for the weekend.

I personally love that she's inviting Joaquin into a business venture. I'm thinking it will be successful and bring him much more than he put into the house, which makes everyone feel better b/c no one likes debt, and he and Adelina closer which will really give Flavia something to be pissed about. I think even if it brought them loads of cash, she'd still tell him to leave it to get him away from Ade.

I'll put that title up for you!

I'm loving the music, too! Music is one of the things that can make or break a TN for me.

great, hellashelle

"(Um, insensitive much, Aldie? They almost got shot last night!)" I felt really bad for Adelina last night, she raised Aldonza, likely catered to her every whim, while in a co-dependent relationship with her alcoholic sister. Both sister and niece walk all over her and exploit the fact they know she would never leave.

"Lardo informs her that he’s Sev’s right…left…right? hand man now and offers to be a double agent" Love it!

Abelardo - wee-knee

Mel - and if by chance your apology gets them off my ass

Pru - I'm sold, just not here

Tomas - shut up I got mommie issues

Aldonza - wear a cow bell or something, you pop up like your daddy

Viviana - it's hard to be a tart with a kid and a husband, ask Roberta

Severiano - forgive your mom son, she's stupid

Renato - what you got on right now

Oh tofie! Wee-knee! HAHAHAHA!

HellaShelle, gracias por el recap! I enjoyed reading this with my morning coffee.

"Cris [...] reminds his mom that she interrupted a funeral mass and slapped the bereaved. That was completely different! Cande insists." That got a laugh from me! And well-played by Sev later, letting Cande look like the one who's obsessed.

"PJ laments her mule headedness and the fact that she’s got more balls than sense." Indeed :D

"I gotta say, if Mijares and beautiful, soaring string section weren’t backing him up, Cris’s speech might’ve been terrifying." He was back to his Classic Hollywood pretty lines. It's kinda working for me and kinda not. He's just so idealistic and he keeps focusing on what he thinks is "right" vs. how things actually are. He doesn't think about things like how Thanksgiving dinner is going to work. Or what he's going to tell the kids about why grandma and grandpa don't like mommy. He wants to ignore reality. Maybe they could get away with it somewhere far away from SL, but neither of them seems to want to leave.

"Back at Las Animas, the demons are hungry." That cracked me up! It's so hard to stay satisfied on a diet of human misery.

I'm not going to copy and paste the entire Lardo scene, but the whole thing was hilarious and I'm raising a glass!

"Tomás has brought Pru’s fruit all the way into the house...." Every time either one of them said fruit, it sounded so dirty. I approve! Let's see, what would a gigolo/mechanic have on his business card: Reasonable rates! Satisfaction guaranteed, or your money back! Specializing in classic models! We'll get your engine revving in no time!

That candy house is seeing a lot of action.

"PJ is shocked and a little disillusioned, realizing that Lola’s not Roberta’s long lost love/hate child." Well, that's one mystery solved.

"My cynical mind immediately thinks those birds are going to be killed at some point and serve as a warning." Well, they did use canaries in mines, so....

Vivi, I like your take on Cande's motivations for telling Cris "the truth."

Sara, I don't know why I keep thinking, every time Aldonza starts to tell someone about Mis Planes, that we're finally going to get the big reveal. Another disappointment last night. I guess at least now we know it's a "business" venture.

tofie, another great list :D I think you're right about Pru...and that's going to be some fun to watch!

Crap. I forgot to agree with hellashelle about Pru. Cynthia Klitbo is freaking gorgeous. I wish I looked like her!

Kat- I really hope we don't have to wait much longer for the reveal of Mis Planes.

She's all "Respect me! Respect my grey hairs!" and I'm like, "What grey hairs?!"

Ok, not related to the episode per se... But I would also kill for Pru's thick hair. Mine is so baby fine.

So could Mis Planes be an agricultural venture? Ray seemed pretty unsuccessful at it. Why does Aldonza think she'll be any better?

Maybe she thinks she knows things her father didn't. Or she's planning a different kind of crop or a different way of raising it. I'm still inclined to think she's growing *something* otherwise, why bother with the agronomy degree. They could have made it a business degree.

Sara- Likely because Aldondza has an Ag Engineering degree and learned some new techniques.

Hellashelle- Fabulous recap! Wish I had more time to comment.

(Back to work for me.)

So help me if this goes narco... JUST KIDDING!

La Reina del SantUaRio.

Sara, I have to admit, I've had the same thought..."profitable crop" and all that.

But maybe...flowers?

Thanks, hellashelle, for another excellently snappy recap.

Tofie..I appreciate your clever list which provided me with some morning giggles. I especially enjoyed wee-knee. You have a way with words, girl.

I cannot believe that Pru stole the candy house. I guess Tomas had her all hot and bothered, so she needed a little sugar as a substitute.

I , too, am worried that those two little birds are going to end up at the bottom of that cage.

Well, Al's plans are still a mystery. Maybe she is going to start planting chili peppers or turn the waterfall into a water park.

Candy gets scarier and scarier and more like the wicked witch in Snow White.

Lol, Susanlynn, can we name the peppers "Roberta's Red-hots" or would there be a trademark issue?

Diva.,.yes, Roberta's red hots

The other day on the way to work, I passed a sign at my neighbor's advertising ''aged manure.'' Maybe this is how Severed and Candy made their fortune. All those horses produce lots of manure.

I love Roberta's Red Hots. Or how about a super hot chili pepper called Roberta's Revenge.

AGED manure? Why?

hellashelle, exceptional.

You write beautifully. "And I won’t leave you and I won’t let you go for even an instant because you’re tattooed on my heart" had my eyes welling up.

I so enjoyed the way you skillfully wove humor into this including "She leaves and PJ laments her mule headedness and the fact that she’s got more balls than sense".

Sadness for Dom - my heart went out to her.

I adore feisty Aldonza's determination and grit.

Cris is winning points for if not seeing who and what his parents truly are, at least an outline of their cruel hearts.

And those birds? Those lovely melodies will not continue long I fear. I say let's give them to the Carmonas for safekeeping.

Too many deadlines today. Will come back and catch up on the comments.

Diana

Why aged manure? Because it's less sticky?

If Sev is as good a businessman as he claims to be, then heck yeah he'd be selling horse manure for the extra bucks!

I like Roberta's Revenge for the pepper name :D

I guess aged manure is a more potent fertilizer than fresh sh...manure. Isn't it interesting that one can actually make money selling it.

Hellashelle, I have decided that my favorite part of the recap was '' he crumbles and stumbles.'' Such a picture painted with words. You just know that this guy is so arrogant and stupid that he is going to step on his own foot.

Chris should watch Oprah. She always reminds us, ''When someone SHOWS you who he is, believe him.'' Chris knows his parents are bad , but he just does not want to believe it. I suppose we have all been there..not wanting to believe what our intuition is telling us.

Seve and Cande don't even need the horses to produce manure. Between the two of them, they produce enough manure to supply the world ... and so far they've been pretty good at selling it, too.

Hellashelle, this was amazing!!! Trying to suppress my giggling here in the office for once...but it is hard!!

I about flew out of chair last night with Allie kneeing Lardo. Now there's a heroine I can get behind, not one of those meek and innocents who let people walk all over them.

Lardo--look in the mirror. Sweetie, that is not the image of a guy that makes woman swoon. Well, at least woman with a brain in their head. Stick with Val.

Little stunned we got the Lola reveal already--but we did nail it! So let's see Sev react when he realizes his mistress' daughter is interested in his son. This just gets more twisted each episode.

Ok, so Cris with the whispering in the ear was all panting and strings playing time, but every time he does that, it makes me want to scream. If Allie is trying to protect him keeping the secret, I don't know, but honestly, she has to be going thru hell every time he does that. Hard to "appreciate" any type romantic moment with them.

Maybe we need to get Sylvia in town and she can meet Cris?

I don't know why Cande thinks Cris knowing his Dad was doing the horizontal with Roberta is going to make him move away from Allie? He's going to be like "What does that have to do with her?" From Cande's perspective, it paints her as the saint and makes Sev look like the idiot he is, but won't work breaking the couple up.

And I agree, for lordie sakes, just tell us the stupid Mis Plan already!! if after all this we are back to melons, I may throw one at the writers.

"This just gets more twisted each episode."

Yeah, I'm gonna need some sort of family tree/flow chart graphic organizer by the time we get to the Fin!

So, Simoneta used to be Viviana, she was married to Dominga and Mel's son, and sometime after she had Lola she left them. She dated Sev since who-knows-when and then very recently let on that she "used to know" someone who worked there and really wanted to see the place. And now she shows up, claiming to want to be there to soothe the savage Sev. But she didn't deny to Dominga that she does want to...meet? reclaim?...her daughter.

So, did she go after Sev because of the Las Animas connection and her whole relationship with him is really about getting closer to her daughter? Or is the possibility of reuniting with Lola just a side benefit?

Daisynjay, the only way more melons would make for a good story is if she's figured out how to grow them with the vodka already inside the melon!

So Sim/Viv gets involved with Sev to reclaim her daughter AND punish herself for abandoning the child. A two-fer.

Just wanted to stop by and thank you, hellashelle for your wonderful writing and explanations of idioms.

Isn't it interesting how much consanguinity enters into some of these tns?

Loved the groin kick. Now Aldonza needs to learn some other moves, maybe specifically tailored to fighting one armed men.

I am interested too in what Aldonza intends to do business wise. If it is agricultural, she doesn't seem to have the money to buy big production machinery like combines and four wheel drive tractors, and if it is a crop like watermelons, that would take a lot of human work to get the crop to market.

Mel is, so far, a gold mine of wisdom for Cris, perhaps his only source other than PJ.

Susanlynn, wish I could take credit for being clever but it likely the bizarre sounding English my mother spoke that influences my ear yet, English not being her native tongue, and my father plopped her right into the southeastern US from Southeast Asia.

" the only way more melons would make for a good story is if she's figured out how to grow them with the vodka already inside the melon!"

Kat, I love the way your mind works!

I swear, I'm not as much of a lush as it seems :) Especially not as I get older...two glasses of wine at a party on Saturday and I was suffering for days...although, maybe that had to do with the cheapness of the wine....

I don't know how Pru does it, but maybe it explains her constant state of inebriation. If she never gets sober, she never has to feel the hangover!

Nothing to add but that quip about Pru's constant inebriation is hilarious.

I don't really drunk, but I am really intrigued by the idea of vodka melons.

Er. Drink. I don't really drink.

Hm, Sara...why does your correction leave me unconvinced? ;)

Hellashelle.....great recap. What a joy to read such a witty and thorough rendition of a really gripping show that keeps moving right along.

Glad you share my opinion of Pru. Love her being all shook up by Tomas. I wonder how long before she gives in to emotions and what the outcome will be. That alone would keep me watching.

Looks like Caray Cary will let me back on the patio, for some reason have not been able to post for several days.

I'm so glad you can post again emeraldrose! I was just thinking of you this morning while I had my coffee.

Sara...Tee many martoonies.

Melon balls for everyone.

Woo hoo!

So funny Susanlynn!

Gosh...maybe she is trying to open up the Naughty Melon Bar & Grill & Gift Shop & Cafe & Dress Shop (gotta throw something in there for Adelina)!

Dear Sombra Peeps on the Patio--
I've been hiding behind the bushes in the Plaza for anonymity, but I can't hear everything that's going on. So, emerging briefly, a big thank you to all you wonderful recappers and commenters. This is a hilarious place to stop by and have a sip or two of Midori on ice (or depending on the hour, Ice water with green food coloring). Wish I could spend more time here. So for now I can only get back to my hiding place behind the bushes.

The writers are playing with us. It's not fair. They need to get on with it and tell us what Aldie's Mis Planes are. I think Renato is also in on them and is supposed to help.

I DID get to see that knee-action of Aldonza's.

Although for me, it was much more gratifying to see the beat-down Max gave his conniving, evil older brother (who is only a half a brother, though Max doesn't know it yet) on QA.

Lol, Anita, thanks for popping up to let us know you're lurking! Just stick your hand out of the bushes now and then and someone will pass you a drink :D

Hilarious mental image!

You're always welcome here Anita!

I wonder if the writers know what Al's plans are. Maybe they are stalling until one of them has an idea for a great plan.

As David stated, farm equipment is very expensive. What happened to the equipment when Hum bought the property from Roberta just before Rob and Co. Bolted out of town ? Did it burn with the melons ? Was it sold ? If it has been just sitting there rusting away , it probably is not in working order. How much money does AL have left after giving Hum a year's worth of rent. By the way, she had better get into that place quickly because Hum's beady little eyes glittered when Sim/viv offered 30% more money to rent the place. Around here , many farms do pick-your-own ....strawberries, pumpkins, apples, etc. Because it is do expensive to hire workers to pick. Maybe we will see a sign ''Pick Your Own Melon.'' Maybe there will be free wagon rides out to the field for the kiddies and a petting zoo.

Loved this recap.

I am thinking the theft of the candy house is going to be the catalyst that gets Emmanuel out of Humberto's house and maybe living and working at Aldonza's house. I foresee a huge blow up with Pru over this. Also, isn't there an expensive ring hidden in it?

The birds bothers me terribly. I just thought it was sad and they might not be well taken care of, but I guess Adelina would never not take care of a creature.

I confess that every time there is a scene with a horse, I start staring at the horse and miss the dialogue. The scene with Chris and Melesio was funny, because that horse was giving the camera the stink eye, and every time they switched the camera angle to a shot from the rear of the horse (out of his range of vision) the horse stomped and pinned his ears.

Hella--wow, thanks for the big awesome recap! Great job!

I was cheering that beautiful horse the whole time Chris and Melesio were talking; he is a scene-stealer.

I was cheering when Dominga said that Lola's mother was Viv/Sim. The whole patio already suspected this!

I was cheering when Pru absconded with the dried out caramel-candy house. QTH? Is that cottage going to be like the Red Couch that goes off on adventures around the world?

I was almost cheering Renato in his nude-phone-call scene, but he really did look like he was uncomfortable and shivering the whole time and I wanted to throw a robe over him.

And finally, I was cheering Aldonza's KNEE-to-the-groin technique. Yay!

J in Oregon

Oh yeah-- I could get into the whole Bar/Cafe/Dress shop...whatever. I use to be a retail manager WAYYYY back in the day, be happy to help out as long as the BodSquad guys are around to help.

I keep getting mental images of Pru and Tomas, and I have to say, nothing but hilarity ensues. I don't think Tomas is going to know what hit him..so to speak.

About those birds...heaven help me by why do I keep getting images of a fire again. Birds are great in signaling for smoke. Those little sweeties have to be there for some reason.

OK, one more meeting and then I get to go home and indulge in my "melon martini" for the night....though it's my single glass of white wine with dinner. yeah, I know boring.

Hellashelle - thank you for the snarky recap. I agree with you about the candy house storyline being super random.

I am late to the Party on the Patio, but better late than never. :-)

Renato's shower scene was not fulfilling. At all. FELS and even AV had much better shower scenes. Just sayin'...

I, too, was cheering the weeknee scene. You go, girl!

My immediate thought was the canaries might be there to act as the "canary in the coal mine" in case Sev or Lardo tries to cut a gas line in the house. Just a Crockpot Theory™.

AGED MANURE --- eons ago, I heard that fresh manure can burn the roots when used as fertilizer. But maybe I dreamed that…?

I am amazed by the OLD candy house storyline. Is it going to be meaningful or meaningless ? As the candy store lady was telling the tale, we saw some guy putting the ring into the candy house. Was it meant for the candy lady ? If so, did she say ''no ?'' Is the ring still in the box ? What the....? The house has gone from Candylady to Lola to Eman to Pur. Will Pru devour it after a couple martinis when she gets the munchies ? Will she give it to Tomas ? Will it end up in the hands of the Candyman who originally made it and put the ring inside ?

Is it pathetic that I'm even interested in the Candyhouse story?

Not pathetic at all, Sara!

The Adventures of the Traveling Candy House might be interesting.

I want to know if the ring is still in there!

Oh! Almost time!

I still have 15 minutes to go. I'm totally jealous!

But you know, sometimes it sucks being done watching waaaay before folks in the west because I want to talk about the episode so bad! But I know it can be spoilerish.

We are babysitting at my daughter's so I missed this episode. I hope it recorded so that I can watch it later.

I don't know why, but I am strangely amused by the candy house storyline, and interested in learning why the writers have inserted such a random thing.
