La Sombra del Pasado, Capitulo #41 4/14/15

Recap courtesy of HellaShelle

Dom tells PJ she doesn’t dare tell Lola the truth, it would hurt her so! PJ says she’ll avoid lots of problems if she does. He wishes Dom Godly illumination as she leaves.

Melesio goes to see Aldonza after the shooting. Aldonza blames Sev, but Mel says he’s not so sure. Besides, without proof, they can’t just accuse anyone. Aldonza asks for his help getting some security and he promises to send someone by that he trusts. He also wants to talk about Cris. Aldonza insists she and Cris wouldn’t work, but Mel says her eyes tell a different story. (Geez – her eyes, her lips. Anyone use words in this town?)

Cande asks for Dominga, who still hasn’t come back to work. The other servant, Tonia, says Dom called out sick and looked liked she’d seen a ghost when she got back from market. Cande worries because Dominga doesn’t leave work for just anything. She goes to check on her.

Dominga and Mel are worrying about Viviana. What to do? Why is she here? Dom says she thought she saw her a few days ago, but Cande told her she was a widow who came to buy horses from Sev. They wonder if that’s true and Dom says she told PJ everything and he advised her to tell Lola the truth. Cande comes by, worrying about Dom, but Mel says Dom’s fine, just a little headache. Cande checks Dom’s temperature with her hand, like a mother with a child, and says she can call Hum, but Dom assures her she’s fine and manages a weak smile. Cande says ok, but is she gets worse, Cande’s calling Hum even if Dom protests.

E-man’s bummed about Lola. He wants to ask Mel to leave early so he can return the candy house, but Mel’s not around. Cris gives him permission and wishes him luck; with Lola’s character he’ll need it.

Mel apologizes to Sev for telling Cris that PJ suspected him of the shooting. He knows it caused problems. If Sev wants to fire him, he’ll understand. Sev does want to…but he won’t. He’s spent years cultivating his image and that blasted padre and his supporters keep blaming him for everything that happens to the Alcocer’s. (So ironic). He’s tired of it and if Mel pulls a stunt like this again, he’s gone. Mel just wanted Sev to hear it from him. Sev dismisses him.

E goes to his closet, but of course the house is gone.

Mel tells Cris that Sev just chewed him out. Cris apologizes because it’s his fault for blowing up at his parents, but Mel just wants him to understand that Mel advised him to follow his heart, not his impulses. Cris knows, he just couldn’t help himself. And even though he apologized to his parents, he’s not sorry that he was clear about his take on the situation. Cris wants to make sure Sev didn’t do anything more drastic than ream Mel out. Mel reassures him and is grateful. He thinks another boss would’ve fired him. Switching topics, Mel says he just spoke with Aldie. Cris want to know what she said and Mel teases him as they walk off to talk about it.

Humberto comes by the Santu. Aldie asks after Val. She wants to clear it up that she and Val are not rivals and she’s not in the market for a love with anyone right now. Hum doesn’t blame her. What happened between Cris and Val was inevitable; Hum thinks that Cris only thought he was in love with Val anyway and Aldie shouldn’t get blamed for things that aren’t her fault. Aldie takes all of this in, hearing it for the first time from a (fairly) disinterested party. Changing topics, Hum tells her he has bad news: Someone just offered him a lot of money to rent the house, trying to stop her from moving in.

Val’s at Las Animas, being snotty to the help. While she waits to talk to Cande, Lardo walks by. They both do a double take. Val wants to know why he’s there. Didn’t Cris fire him for whacking E? He works for Sev, not the ranch. Whatever, Val’s more interested in Lardo getting rid of Aldie. She already paid her fee (Ew.), now he’s gotta do his part. Cande came just in time to hear this and wants to know what she’s talking about.

Val admits she paid Lardo to help her with her Aldie problem. She’s desperate! She’d sell her soul to the Devil if she could get Cris back! Cande says she’s going about things the wrong way. No, Val explains. Lardo’s got a thing for Aldie, so maybe he can have her. (Aldie, the bewitching sorceress has no say in this apparently). Cande points out, smartly for once, that all that will do is make Cris jealous…unless…her scheming wheel is turning…Unless Lardo can make Cris think that Aldie’s just like her mother. Val likes this plan.

Hum thanks Aldie for her time and apologizes for the situation. Aldie says she knows he’s in a tough spot. Hum recommends that she do as he advised (off-screen, so we don’t know what he’s talking about), for her own good. He leaves and Aldie insists to Adelina that they can’t leave the house! They live in it now, they absolutely can’t leave it! Adelina’s confused by her fervor. What about the stuff they left at PJ’s? Ok, maybe they can leave it. Aldie tells Adelina to go get the stuff quickly while she stays at the house. What about the broken windows, Adelina asks. Not important! Go get the stuff, quickly! She’s physically pulling her aunt to the door. No time to explain! Adelina wants to know why. What did she talk about with the doctor? Aldonza says she’ll tell her later. Adelina goes.

E has gathered the suspects in the living room, but Juanita and Pru don’t kow where is candy house is. Well it can’t just have disappeared, right? Pru says that if Juanita can’t remember where she put it, she’s fired. E knows that Juanita’s not to blame, but what’s he going to tell Lola?

Cris runs into Val on her way out. She tells him not to worry, she’s there to talk to Cande, if that’s still ok. Even if he dumped her, she hopes she and his mom can still be friends. Cris says of course. Their doors are always open for her. In fact, can’t they still be friends? God, Cris have you never broken up with a woman before? Val says no, he’s hurt her worse than anyone else. One day, he’ll realize Aldie wasn’t worth it. Cris says for the millionth time that Aldie had nothing to do with it. Val says whatever, they obviously have different ideas about that…tipa (=chick).

Cande is again ranting about Aldie to Sev. Ugh, he, like the rest of us, wants to know is she has anything else in the world to talk about. Well, she has to get this off her chest with someone and he’s the equally interested party. What does she want him to do about it? So far, Aldie and Cris aren’t even together and Cris, not Aldie, is the one pushing the relationship. Cande’s like puh-leeze. Aldie’s just making him beg to light his fire more and Cris is so stupid he doesn’t realize it! Sev says that gives them time to figure out what to do. Cande suggests that he do whatever it is that he did last time. Whatever it was should be easier now without Rob, right? No, Sev says. Aldie’s not lost in -he taps his glass of liquor- vices, like her mom. She’s much stronger and more clever than Rob. She’s already gotten back into her old house.

Adelina’s sharing Aldie’s weirdness with PJ. She thinks maybe Hum is trying to back out of the rental agreement. PJ thinks that would make sense. PJ now shares that Lola is absolutely NOT Roberta’s daughter. He can’t tell Adelina why, but he’s certain Lola’s not Aldie’s sister. Adelina urges him to drop it, but PJ insists he must get to the bottom of this.

Lardo brings Sim some groceries and tells her Sev sent him to do whatever she needs. He indicates a cougar-pup arrangement, but Sim’s not interested. She asks if Mr. Mendoza is coming later. Lardo doesn’t know. She asks about Dominga, saying she met her a little while ago and she seems nice. She hears she has a granddaughter too. What’s she like? Lardo says Lola’s nothing special, just a girl. Not as fine as Sim. Sim goes from vaguely lukewarm to chilly. Lardo notes the change in her face and heads out.

Mel’s friend, Camilo Montiel, has come to El Santu to be the velador(=guard; night watchman. Also, interestingly, night table.) All he needs is a food and a place to stay as payment, but Aldie insists that while it won’t be much, he’ll get paid too. There’s a small, but cozy room for him by the front. Because of it’s ubicación(=location, placement), it will also be the caseta de vigilancia(=security booth).

Flavia and Joaquín are eating dinner. Joaquín’s disappointed that he didn’t get to see Ray before he went to bed, but he’ll catch him tomorrow. He thinks he’ll finish early, but with the shooting, he has to redo a bunch of work. Flavia gets pissed. Those Alcocer’s are always looking for excuses to have him around! (Yeah! I bet they shot up their own new house just to hang out with him!) She’s had it hasta el copete(=had it up to here! Literally, up to a tuft (of hair)). Well she’s going to have to hacer de tripas corazon(=make heart from guts (like tripe). Basically, do something you don’t want to) because he and Aldonza are going into business together so he’ll be seeing them for a good while. Flavia says if what he really wants to do is run off with Adelina, he should just do it rather than make up excuses to see her. That’s it! Now Joaquín’s pissed! He’s going out for a drink, rather than stay and listen to Flavia’s endless accusations!

Cris takes Cande some flowers and sweet-talks her. He thinks they both got out of hand, but he’d like to apologize for his part of it. He knows they don’t agree on a lot of things, but he is her son and he knows he owes her everything, starting with his very life. He hugs her and kisses her cheek. Cande mom melts.

Dom prays for guidance.

Mel goes to pick Lola up from work, which is unusual for him. He says he just wanted to tell her again that he and her grandma love her to bits and thank God for her every day. Awwww! They’d head home, but Lola has something to do first. She feels bad, but does he mind if she meets him at the house? He asks her to be very careful. He looks so sad watching her leave that I just want to hug him.

Sim corners Hum just as he’s about to leave the office. She’s called several time. He says it was a crazy day, lots of patients. Sim cuts to the chase: Is he avoiding her? She needs an answer. Will he rent her the house or not?

Lola’s errand was picking up the candy house. E doesn’t have it. Lola wants to know if he ate it or is jerking her around. He stammers and mumbles and she says he’s got until tomorrow or she’s send her grandpa after him and they both know Mel’s just looking for a reason to knock E out. She shoves him and he goes back in the house. Then she sits on a bench and cries. Inside the Zapata house, Juanita tells E that she thinks Pru’s got the sweets. Pru’s listening around the corner.

Sev has stopped by Sim’s new digs. He wants to know how things went with Hum. Badly, Sim admits. Aldonza’s already moved in, so they can’t kick her out. Sev is furious! He breaks his glass of wine and tells her she’s useless! The first time he asks for something, she fails! She tells him it’s not her fault Hum figured out Sev’s game. Sev storms out to go fix her mess.

Pru studies herself in the mirror again…then calls Tomás. She asks him to come over, but Hum comes home, so they quickly make plans for tomorrow, at his house. Hum asks who it was. She says Cande. She asks why he’s home so early. He said he didn’t have many patients and was tired.

Adelina’s walking down the dark night streets of SL, hands full of bags. Sev drives by, stops the car and offers to give her a lift. It’ll give them a chance to talk. She declines. He tells her to get her niece out of SL. Now. And if she doesn’t want to go? Adelina asks, chin lifted. Well, Sev doesn’t think Aldie wants to relive their last encounter…Adelina says he’d better not touch her girl or he’ll see what she’s capable of. Sev says if the fiery Rob couldn’t take care of him, Adelina certainly can’t. She tries to smack him, but he grabs her arm. Sadly, right now Adelina is more smoke than fire. She’s already crying as she softly tells him to stop, he’s hurting her. He says this is nothing. He takes a deep breath of her scent and reminds her that he can hurt them much, much worse…

Avances: Adelina furiously asks if Aldonza’s going to take this to the point that they get hurt. Aldonza, standing in front of Sev and Cande, wants to know if Sev really wants his wife to know what he’s capable of.

Gracias otra vez, HellaShelle! Excellent recap :D

"Geez – her eyes, her lips. Anyone use words in this town?" Welcome to lovely Santa Lucia, where the biggest town export is gossip and pantomime is the official language.

"Cande checks Dom’s temperature with her hand, like a mother with a child, and says she can call Hum, but Dom assures her she’s fine and manages a weak smile." A rare moment of humanity from Cande.

"God, Cris have you never broken up with a woman before?" Somebody get this guy an advisor, ASAP!

"Yeah! I bet they shot up their own new house just to hang out with him!" Another one who frustrates me. She spouts all this nonsense and really believes it. Oh, I know she didn't actually say this, but five more minutes and she would have.

Mad props to Humberto for realizing something was fishy with Simoneta's offer and advising Aldonza to move in. The way they kept cutting away from his conversations was really well done. I honestly couldn't tell what was going on until Simoneta told Sev that the deal wasn't going to go through. Though I did wonder, with Aldonza's insistence on not leaving the house and the way she seemed to be parting on good terms with Humberto.

Hellashelle.......Thank you for another post. Haven't read it yet. I am either really late for a night cap to too early for coffee on the patio. Am going to enjoy your recap and off to bed. Again thank you for two recaps in a row.

Hellashelle, thanks--You are a real trooper to give us two great recaps in a row!

It was creeeepy to see Sev get out of his car and corner Adelina on that dark street (*shudders). I was already worried about what will happen to Aldie; now I have to worry also about Adelina, Humberto and the two canaries.

On a lighter note, the hilarious mystery of the petrified candy cottage is almost Seinfeld-esque. They can spin that plotline out until the ultimas semanas---that candy's just gonna keep getting harder. :o)

Thank you so much hellashelle!!! Two recaps in a row! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

Just took a quick peek and loved "Geez – her eyes, her lips. Anyone use words in this town?"

I'll be back later for more commentary.

Again, Hellashelle, great recap! Thanks! The episode seemed to be some filler...we are getting spoiled I think, expecting big stuff each episode.

So apparently it's imperative that Allie be living permanently in the house, a sort of squatter's rights type thing? The girl was positively panicked to make it definitely look like she was moved in 24-7.

Ok, so I liked that Cris/Cande moment. Sort of coach hug I get from my guys. Good son, too bad lousy mother. Again, to Val and Cande too--Lardo guys!! Cris would believe Allie would go for that jerk?? C'mon.

Speaking of whom, so is she not fully aware of what Sev did to Allie to get them out of town last time? I sort of thought she got the inference he made, but to suggest he do the same again would be beyond the pale then.

Have to tell you, I could do with far less Simonetta and way more Pru right now. She fascinates me as to what is going thru her mind as she stares in the mirror and how far she will go with Tomas. Is she going to plant ack the candy house or not? Inquiring minds want to know.

My heart is going out to Lola to have such a skank mother, but I hope Dom and Mel tell her themselves before she finds out some other way.

Daisynjay

Thanks, hellashelle. I missed the seeing the first part, up to the commercial, so in addition to enjoying how you write these recaps, you filled me in on stuff I missed.

I guess we are witnessing the descent of Pru into a search for something to add depth to her life, and her attitude about the chocolate house reflects that she feels if she wants something she can just take it?

I wish every episode could have Aldonza kneeing Lardo worked into it. That would be more believable than him being a love interest for her.

Sev has spent his life being a medium size frog in a very small pond. I can't wait for him to run into a big frog.

David

Thank you so much hellashelle! Just as fabulous as your recap yesterday, and I loved the embedded vocab.

I know it's a random bizarre storyline, but I look forward to seeing where the wandering candy house ends up next. David, I like your take on why Pru took it. She really does need something to occupy her, and it looks like Tomas will be it.

Loved Hum thwarting Sever by telling Al what's up and advising her to move in ASAP.

Awesome recap!! Thanks for the vocab too. I'm a whore for vocab.

Daisynjay-I could quote your whole comment.

big stuff every episode-We are used to BIG stuff, but I'm liking the smaller stories they are now inserting. Yup. I'm even loving the Mystery of the Missing Candy House, which is closely tied to the Mystery of the Lost Love.

more Pru-YES!!! Let me repeat myself AGAIN...I love Cynthia Klitbo. She made staring at herself in the mirror compelling.

Vivi-I see we agree on the candy house story.

David- I wish every episode could have Aldonza kneeing Lardo. Wouldn't that make a GREAT gif?

Hellashelle..I especially appreciate your recap because I thought that I had recorded this episode last night, but I taped the news before it by mistake. Thanks so much.

"Godly illumination"--wow...We all need that.

Later, gators.

Hellashelle, riveting recap.

Your vocabulary was a wonderful treat and the summary was excellent. "He indicates a cougar-pup arrangement, but Sim’s not interested" and "Sadly, right now Adelina is more smoke than fire" were among my many favorites.

I'm starting to actually like Humberto. His terrible, terrible decision to go along with Sev in Roberta's baby abduction aside, he is proving to be an unforeseen, most welcome ally for Aldonza.

Sev threatening Adelina made me nauseous. Seriously.

I'm hoping that the candy house has some significance as this seems like such a trite subplot, there must be much more yet to be revealed.

Is the fact the ice queen was a bit moved by Dom's obvious plight is supposed to make us think she is actually human? If so, please count me out. She loves her son. So? She is just as treacherous as her cheating, murdering, raping husband. Sorry, but I cannot abide her.

Aldonza's determination is inspiring but I am very fearful for Adelina. I agree with you J that "I was already worried about what will happen to Aldie; now I have to worry also about Adelina, Humberto and the two canaries".

Diana

Sara..Ha...maybe the wee-knee scene should be in the opening. No one deserved that knee more than Lardhead. Why does he think that he is a studmuffin. QTH??? Now, this guy definitely needs some of that "Godly illumination."

Morning all. Thanks for the thumbs up :)

Diva - Ah! You worked the mimes back in! LOLOLOL!

I'm a little curious about Sim. Is Sev bankrolling her completely or did she hook up with/marry someone between Santiago and Sev? I only wonder because her house in the other town was nice. Does Sev own/rent that for her too?

I really don't think Cande has any idea what Sev did. I think she believes it's more along the lines of the story Aldie's been giving: he used his influence to put pressure on them financially, socially, etc. I don't think the truth has even crossed her mind.

I have to agree Cande doesn't know exactly what Sev did. Surely she isn't so evil as to want her husband to rape again?

Or is she? (dunh dunh dunh!)

Diana-"trite subolot"... Thems fightin' words. Don't make fun of my favorite story right now. You know I'm joking! I lerve you.

Diva - I also wasn't sure what was going on with Hum and Aldonza. They keep a good amount of mystery going in this TN, even for these minor moments.

J in O - Yeah, that defeinitely made me think of Mel telling Lola to be a careful. For a small town, they've got serious animals prowling the streets at night.

Daisy- AB is so pretty and young looking that if I didn't know they were mother and son, I'd wonder if they were an untraditional couple. Then again, I almost feel like that every time any two attractive people are on the screen in this TN.

David and Susanlynn-hahaha! Maybe we can use the wee-knee clip for the opening credits of "Because of Aldonza"?

Vivi and Sara - I'm willing to go with you on the candy house. And I will drive the Pru trian. CK is great!

Diana - It's interesting to me that Sev is a monster, but far more charming that Cande.

Ok. It's trite. But it's amusing me. It even inspired my avatar change!

We already know that Dominga holds a special place for Cande, so her concern for her was not shocking. She also the only person who Cande will allow to tell her off. But it's kind of hard to put on airs with the woman who changed your diapers. Dominga's the closest thing to a parent that Cande has.

So the moment that really grabbed me last night was between Pru and Humberto. Up to now, I've felt pretty neutral about their relationship, but last night I actually felt sad about them. Hum is having a mid-life crisis of conscience. He's really looking at his life and what he's done with it and realizing that he often takes the path of least resistance, even when he knows it's wrong. He's trying to change, trying to resist without hurting his family or crippling his finances, and Pru doesn't even know.

Meanwhile, Pru's having a more traditional mid-life crisis, considering an affair with a younger man. I can see why: it's nice to feel attractive, sought after. Everyone, including Hum, basically ignores her. She has no drama of her own because Val doesn't want her help and she doesn't even consider Em's broncas. Hum hasn't filled her in on his stuff, because she's so completely opposed to his way of thinking. So now she's looking for attention and adventure elsewhere.

She and Hum don't agree on their kids, bio or adopted or their friends. Their lives are just completely seperate and it was very apparent last night. They lied to each other about their days and then just drifted apart, Hum physically, and Pru mentally. This is different from when we first saw them and Pru was pushing him to get help from Cande and Sev. They still didn't see things exactly the same way, but time has definitely magnified their differences and the distance between them. I'm really curious about how their relationship will evolve, and right now I'm pulling for them to work it out and come out of the coming storm closer. I hope the writers, producers and directos take full advantage of the rich potential here and give us some memorable scenes later on.

Cande obviously doesn't know that when Cris and Aldonza met, Lardo and Tomas were trying to rape her. But, oh, yeah, sure, Lardo can convince Cris that he and Aldonza have a thing. And that it makes Aldonza "not worth the trouble." Plus there's the whole "Cris can't stand Lardo and was going to leave the ranch on account of him working there" and she thinks Cris will stick around long enough to hear his fabricated story? That's the one where she really ought to know better.

I would have to guess that Cande doesn't know what Sev did to Aldonza. If she knew, she would know that Aldonza is made of sterner stuff and all this stupid crap she's been doing that she's sure will get Aldonza to go away forever is bound to fail. And if she knew, I don't think she'd send Sev to do it again...maybe because she'd think that was a line too far to cross, but more likely because she's practical enough (sometimes anyway) to see that it's a bigger risk to The Family Name if Sev gets busted, especially after it didn't work the last time.

And also, good morning, all :)

HellaShelle, aw crap, I did not mean "mimes"! They had better not be listening in! And if they are--take the kneeing Lardo in the balls every episode suggestion instead, please!

"It's kind of hard to put on airs with the woman who changed your diapers." lol, Vivi...good point! If it was shocking it's because it's easier to see her as this one-dimensional terrible person with no redeeming qualities...and then she has a tender moment with Cris and worries about Dominga's headache. But I guess it's hard to go around doing 100% villainous things all day every day. It's just disconcerting--the way Sev's joke about applauding the other day was disconcerting. Anyway, totally my fault--I said I didn't want cardboard-cutout bad guys and look where that got us.

Thank you HellaShelle. So Pru overheard the conversation about the candy house. Will she give it to Tomas?

I can't wait for tonight's episode. Please, please please let Aldonza tell Cande what Sev did to her.

Hellashelle - Thank you for the recap, and your second one this week!

ITA that the wee-knee scene in the opening would be most excellent. :-D

Mr. & Mrs. Dysfunctional Marriage a/k/a Cande & Sev can't stand each other and definitely lead separate lives. But, it is interesting how they circle the wagons when threatened. Typical dysfunction. Ack.

I can't wait to watch my recording of this episode!

Doris - Yes! I should have put that in my Pru/Hum comment they did stand in parallel quite well last night.

Cande and Sev lead seperate lives, but they're often well aware of the other. I think Cande at least suspects Sev's infidelity, but they're both on board with keeping mum on it for reasons of publicity. Cande deals largely with their PR - charitable works, large events, etc. while Sev does the dirty work and the finances. They even take meals together. And when they're annoyed with each other, they put it aside for the greater good, like last night when Sev was tired of hearing about Cris and Al, but Cande was basically like so what? we're a team, so get in the game. They're twisted, but they're mostly functional as a team.

Pru and Hum, on the other hand, rarely work as a team at all. They don't seem to plan together, they have only one shared interest, Val, and she's pretty indifferent to both unless she wants something.

I just find these dynamics fascintating.

Yes, twisted but functional is a good way to describe Cande and Sev.

Pru and Humberto, I thought were on the outs waaaaay back when Cande had had enough of Pru and Pru was going to head back to Los Olivos by herself. And then we jumped 20-ish years and there she was again. They never really told us why she came back, but I think we assumed it had to do with Val. Not anything at all to do with Pru and Humberto as a couple, nothing to indicate that they'd worked on whatever problems they had. And after the jump, Pru was drinking all the time, which I don't remember her doing before.

Stupendous hellashelle.

JnO, yep Sienfeld-esque great catch and reminds me of the marble rye.

My man Humberto. He continues to poke Severiano in the eye. He knows the slimeball and can see him coming a mile off.

Pru - prooty call

Emmanuel - well it didn't grow legs and run off

Lola - this is gonna hurt me more that it will you

Aldonza - I called the cable guy already.

Mel - if you work around horses you're bound to step in it

Abelardo - lemme rephrase. If you need help with the old in-and-out.

Humberto - gawd, I hope she finds a young bf and runs off

Cande - gimme five Val, and here, wear this Slut Buster T'Shirt

Hellashelle, I really enjoyed your analysis on Hum and Pru. Absolutely on point. Plus Pru is someone who has always wanted to be more than what she is. I often wonder about Hum moving to this smaller town and setting up shop versus where they started. She might have married him thinking "woohoo, Doctor's wife" and then he did something we don't know details on, and they went to SL and there is NADA there let alone try to be a big cheese. Part why the desperation to rub elbows with Cande and have her daughter marry in? Alcohol use to numb her disappointment, now maybe she's thinking of a bit livelier of a painkiller.

So I guess we all feel that Cande is really in the dark on what Sev did to Allie. Do we think that if she found out that might put a whole different spin on how the heck she supports her hubby, or how she looks at Allie?

One thing I keep thinking if Allie goes after Sev on the house, doesn't that pull Hum in too as the technical owner of the house right now? He's being so accomodating, but he's definitely in the Avengers group who knows what's going to be done there.

I need a renato fix on my screen tonight. Far too much Lardo last night. We need balance I say.

Daisynjay

Should have said Hum is NOT part of the group that knows. I better get back to work.... :(

Daisynjay

I don't think if Cande knew what Sev did she'd necessarily suddenly like Aldonza, but I think she'd chill the f out on all the stupid antics and realize that when Aldonza tells Cris she wants nothing to do with him, she really means it. Possibly she would be disgusted. Sure, she's a fairly horrible person, but her horribleness seems to have limits--she didn't have Emmanuel killed, so even though she may be evil, she's still invested in thinking of herself as good. I'm not sure what she would actually *do* about it if/when she finds out what Sev did. One thought I had was that she could always have Sev bumped off, make it look like an accident, and then she can be the decent, grieving widow and as a bonus, Cris wouldn't ever leave his poor mother all alone. But that would mean having to have someone murdered and, again, I don't really think she's up to that.

tofie, lol-ing at your list :D

I wish I could hang out on the patio today. I have too many papers to grade. :-(

I've enjoyed "rewarding" myself with your comments.

"Yay me! I graded one set of papers! I may go to the patio and read some comments."

Sara, that sounds like an excellent system :D

It feels like the last couple of episodes have been about setting up something...the reveal of Mis Planes, perhaps? Could tonight be the night?

It's one of those days that there is a ton of paper on my desk and I wish I could just take a match to it all.

It has definitely felt more like we are watching more set up/character studies. But I still find that more entertaining than useless filler. Does that make sense?

When Sev hinted to Cande some time ago he was going to take care of Aldonza, Cande smiled that evil little smirk of hers.

I can't say for certain Cande knows if Sev raped Aldonza. But I strongly suspect she may have an inkling. She made it clear she was behind whatever nefarious plan he had. And this was NOT Roberta, but her daughter who has done nothing wrong other than being Roberta's child.

hellashelle, yes, excellent comments on Humberto and Pru. Pru was a gray character for me until she threw that stone at Aldonza. All bets were off after that.

I am going to miss tonight's show and am so sad!

Great comments everyone.

Feel for you Sara, my problem is my call with Melbourne and Hong Kong Finance folks just got moved from 8:00 pm, to accomodate their time zone, to 7:00 pm EST by someone joining in our corporate office in NY--which is right when La Sombra is on. if I wasn't in the office, there would be a whole lot of expletives flowing right now.

Thought maybe I could email and say "Hey, I have a telenova to watch and Mis Plans may be revealed", but then I didn't think they would care.

Now watch, it will be an awesome episode I can't even think of watching until late tomorrow. GRRRRR

Sara - that absolutely makes sense. This TN is making great use of character devlopment in addition to action and intrigue, so even when characters aren't doing a whole lot that moves the story along, we get little moments that add something to their personalities, reveal their motivations and potential pasts.

Tofie - "prooty call" LOLOLOL! definitely my fave today!

Daisy - I agree with Diva. I think Cande would just be horrified by Sev's actions. I could see her being humiliated enough to stop bothering Aldie, but I can also see her becoming more resentful of Aldie, especially depending on how the reveal is framed. She might be self-centered enough to see it as a further betrayal of her marriage vows, as Aldie being a temptation rather than a rape survivor.

Diana - I see what you're saying about Cande, but I think she'd smirk if Aldie stubbed her toe. I just don't think that thought would cross her mind because why would Sev need to do that? I think most people would assume he'd just use his considerable contacts and power to pressure them into leaving. And Sev's never needed to search very hard for partners, much the less force himself on one. Plus, their used to having servants and henchman, so it's more their style to orchestrate horror, not necessarily enact it themselves.

Daisynjay - can you record the episodes? We have NHL playoff game tonight ... Don't know what I would do without recorded epis.

wow..back from work and enjoying the comments.

Hellashelle ( by the way, my tablet wanted to change your name to ''hell as hell'' yikes) Your comments about the dynamics of those two marriages were very interesting and insightful. Are you a therapist or marriage counselor ? If you aren't, you should be .

I agree that Candy does not know that Severed raped AL. She does not know exactly what he did and doesn't want to know. She has never asked him.

Sara...I am with you, sister, about correcting tests. it's best if I just bite the bullet and do it as quickly as possible. if I procrastinate, it turns into torture.

hellashelle-I did forget to specifically praise your comments about Prumberto. The were very insightful.

I can almost guarantee that if there is something I have to do that conflicts with my TNs something AWESOME always happens.

I've been known to tell hubs that we can't take a long weekend to the beach because it's the final episode of a TN. (I just made myself look like a big loser, didn't I?)

Susanlynn - I'm flattered by the suggestion, but I think I'll stick to fictional characters. I'd hate to mess with someone's real marriage. On a side note, doesn't seem like many TN characters use therapists, does it? Helps that they're often corrupt of in need of therapy themselves though ;)

Sara - Thx! Good luck with grading! Like Susanlynn, I'm wondering if you can DVR it? You might find it on youtube too, though the quality can sometimes be lacking for TNs via that medium.

As bad as Cande is, I think if she knew that the way that Sev took care of getting rid of Aldonza was by raping her, that she would be horrified.

Yeah. Cande is controlling, but she would definitely be mortified and afraid is she knew exactly how depraved her husband was.

Dear Patio Peeps--
Hellashelle--you were mahvelous doing double duty. We're just tripping along, adding layers to our characters. Thanks for flushing (I mean fleshing) them out for us with your insight.

One thing I'm mixed up by with the comments regarding Sev and what he did to Aldonza.

--Wasn't what Cande originally requested of Sev was to do something to Roberta to get them all to leave town forever? Sev said he knew what to do to achieve that. He never told Cande what it was, but it did have the result Cande wanted--Roberta and Co. did leave.

Aldie did come back (albeit without Roberta) so now Cande wants her gone and is egging Sev on to do whatever it was he did before [to Roberta, that is] to Aldo.

Or am I mistaken here?

Maybe the writers are setting Candy up for redemption...her concern for Dom, her delight in Chris's apology, her blindness to the depths of Severed's depravity.

Who came up with the "rest of her days in a convent" idea? I liked that one.

Anita-what you've said seems correct. Sev raped Aldonza and that was the straw that broke Roberta's back. But I don't think Cande knows exactly what he did... So I think she thinks she's just egging him on to make threats or maybe she thinks he paid off Roberta and Aldonza would accept a bribe too.

Sigh. Run on sentence.

Convent for Cande that is.

Sara..That was me..''Get thee to a nunnery.'' I remember that quote from English lit class. The only problem with that idea is Candy does not seem truly devout but instead uses her involvement with the church to assert her social standing in the community. She is queen bee of that beehive.

She basically told him to "do something, anything!" and then didn't want to know what it was. And he never even hinted at it. So for all she knows it was threats, bribery, blackmail. He did make it sound like it involved Roberta more than anyone else, since he said it would have worked permanently if she hadn't died.
