If you can't have them, frame them for murder! La Sombra Del Pasado #65 05/18/2015

This was a hard episode for me to sit through, I have a hard time watching tv/movies where someone dies and last night's episode just about did me in, below you'll find the recap but with less of the usual snark.

Aldonza gives Renato instructions to stop the investigation into who burned down her apartment, she does not want to cause more pain to the Lagos family. Renato agrees and later calls the detective working the case to tell him that they want the matter dropped. Renato will also be going back to umm is the town Santa Lucia? Gah, it's only Tuesday and my brain is fried!

Later in the episode the dream team (that's what I'm calling Pato, Silvia and Renato) lease the house where they will open up their office, they will also be living there, which is pretty cool because that house looks awesome.

Lulu hosts a raffle and Silvia and Renato become the proud owners of the candy house, man that house gets around more than a Kardashian.

In Las Animas a police officer comes looking for Severiano, they found a gun at the scene of the  Lagos murder and they believe it belongs to Satan, oh I mean Severiano. Candela informs them that Sev is out of town and has been for several days, she knows nothing about guns so she can't tell them if the weapon belongs to him or not, Cande then leaves to go to the wake.

The town has gathered to support Uriel and Irma, everyone is there, including Aldonza and Cristobal, who actually kiss at the wake, dude, that's totally not cool. Candela says a prayer and I'm surprised she's not struck down by the big man. Valeria and her family also show up-not that she wanted to be there, Humberto had to force her to go. She wanted to stay home because as she said she's not used to "dealing with death" like Humberto is. Listen, the reason she really wanted to stay home is because she's a selfish witch who can think of no one else other than herself, I find myself wanting to throw a shoe at her.

Oh, but it gets worse. Princess starts to feel faint at the wake and has to be taken home, once she's alone she picks up the phone, calls the police and gives them an anonymous tip, she leads them to Cristobal and claims he had reasons to want Lardo dead. Gah!!! I want to stab her in her little smug face!

Candela pulls Cris aside at the wake and tells him that the police found a gun that they believe belongs to his dad, she is worried but can't get a hold of Sev, Cris tries to call him but Sev is not taking any calls.

Now, this part killed me. Dominga and Melesio are sad, the death of Lardo brings back the memory of their son Santiago who also died too soon, they talk about how death is never easy and you never really get over the death of those you love. They are right. And I just can't with this scene, seeing old people cry makes me want to cry, so I'm going to use my recapper get out of jail card and skip the rest of this scene.

In Mexico Sev and the police chief are out having lunch and toasting to their new business venture, which will be leaving them lots of cash, they drink and the police chief brings out a few lady friends, girls that would never give him or Sev the time of day if they were broke. They take off to an apartment to have "fun" and I'm really creeped out by the fact that the police chief arranged for adult entertainment.

Sev continues to ignore Candela and her phone calls and so she calls his hotel room. Simoneta (can I just add that I'm so glad her real name is Viviana? I can't imagine a loving parent naming their kid Simoneta, sorry, I get distracted. Anywho, Simoneta answers the phone and when Candela asks if she has the right room Simoneta answers with a "yes"- Cande wants to know who she is and Simoneta tells her "don't you recognize me? It's your good friend Simoneta"-on the other end of the line Candela is struck silent.

Oh Simoneta, you fool.

That's it for today folks!

Thanks, Eli. I'm looking forward to your hilarious take on tonight's events.

Um. Not that tonight's events were hilarious. Just that I think you'll find some humor.

Looking forward to your recap, Eli. It was a sad episode, but provided some great scenes between many of our characters. Dominga and Meli broke my heart. And Irma and Uriel continue to tug at my heartstrings.

Nice to see Cris and Al so united.

The Candy House is on the move again!

Candela's anvil will be coming sooner or later!

What an awesome job of acting Yolanda Ventura did. I'm blown away.

Missed big chunks last night so really looking forward to your usual fabulous recap Eli.

So Sylvia has the candy house now? ( I was just yelling at the screen---don't eat that thing!!!)Did not see that coming. So the Scooby Gang has the candy house and that enormous desk of possible hidden drawers. Interesting development.

Cande in all black really gives off the Wicked Witch of the East vibe doesn't she?

Daisynjay

I was a little surprised Silvia ended up with it too.

Cande's black coat did give off an even witchier vibe.

Was I the only one who screamed "Awww shiiiiit" when Val nearly passed out?

Looking forward to your take on this, Eli!

I am loving the actress portraying Lulu. I got a kick out of her throwing away the used slippers as unworthy of her tombola. Good decision.

Aldonza is too caring and considerate of others feelings for her own good. Better to just let the facts go where they may and forget about who may be hurt by them.

Aldonza was wearing her scapular, so no evil could happen to her, but I don't think Cris was, so he got arrested for murder. Always wear your scapular!

Ah, Sev the sexual adventurer. He is omnipotent and larger than life. He will never get caught and held to account! Oops, Simoneta answered the phone and identified herself to Cande. This should be interesting.

David

No, Sara, you weren't the only one! I forgot to mention that. How weird that Val's diagnostic fainting should come at her lover's wake.

David

She didn't completely pass out, but she did get wobbly and look green around the gills, while remembering her sexy times with Lardo. I thought, uh oh!

And I might have just taken it for emotion if she hadn't just been thinking about all the boinking thy had done.

I loved Sim answering the phone. She probably just signed her death sentence, but she's going to try and ding Sev a bit before she goes.

I wish she and Hum would team up. Hum does find her attractive.

Silvia and Renato walking hand in hand through town, sure looked like a couple to me.

Like I said "nearly passed out."

I was actually greatful for the Pru and Tomas scenes despite how disrespectful they were being. It was a really heavy episode and I needed the light scenes and the tombola scenes.

Omg didn't they?! Aldonza holds Renato's hand and it gives him hope... So why the hell is he doing the same to Silvia?

I think Lulu even called Ren Silvia's novio, and Silvia was smiling from ear to ear.

I really hope that no one from the offices of Scooby and Scooby goes dark.

Translation: Sim better enjoy her last hours!

Silvia being in possession of the candy house does not bode well for a relationship with Renato. See how things worked out for Emmanuel and Lola. That thing is toxic

Haha! That's true tofie! God knows what kind of mind altering mold spores are in there and get released every time someone opens the box.

Sara, I'm not inclined to agree about Simoneta and Humberto. However, in view of how he had a "foundling" child and she abandoned her own, that's a balance that can't be ignored.

That is, if she survives the story. If she doesn't I hope there is at least an explanation as to why she abandoned Lola and what happened to her in the intervening years.

Candela tells Cris that the pistol has the letters S and M on it. Teehee.

Melesio and Dominga broke my heart too. Lola better come around soon.

I was telling my husband about the traveling candy house and even though he has no interest in this show, even he was intrigued by it.

Why would they have the raffle at the same time as the wake and mass? Since the raffle is for the church and the same church is involved with the burial, why not postpone the raffle since many townspeople can't attend both? I suppose it's to explain why Tomas and Emanuel weren't there to see the candy house.

Urban-I was only thinking the Humberto/Sim thing because they did give us a scene where Hum was obviously attracted to Sim. Plus the two of them have a lot of dirt on Sev. So even if they don't become romantically involved, it would be nice to see them team up to expose Sev.

cathyx-OMG. S and M. It didn't even click with me. I had the same thoughts about the raffle and the wake and mass being at the same time.

Cathyx..Like you, I thought that it was strange that they held the raffle at the same time as the funeral.

I also thought it was odd for Vile to be having that mind movie of getting freaky with the dearly departed. I loved the photo of a smirking Lardo sitting on the casket...so right to chose a picture oh him sporting his trademark grin. I was not thinking that Vile getting whoozy was a sign that there might be a little Lardo on board. wow..his DNA survives thanks to his hirny bff.
I was surprised to see Rennie and Silvia win the traveling candied pitri dish.

P.s. Hub and my initials are S and M. A few years ago, I had a silver initial ring made at the Mexican pavilion at Epcot , and I was careful to tell the guy to make it ''M (heart) S. Heh Fifty shades of Severed.

So are all three, Renato, Pato, and Sivia going to live together? And that won't be fodder for scandalous gossip?

Sim is a spitfire, but Severed is going to furious about her conversation with Dance..who is reminding me more and more of the wicked queen / stepmother in Snow White. Is it just me, or are her braids getting even tighter? is that even possible ?

P.s. Those two old dudes with the young chippies...so sad. Severed is a pig of the first caliber. I cannot wait to see his anvil.

Great show last night. I understand inserting the levity of having Tomas come on hot, heavy and openly over Lardo's casket, but I kinda wanted Tomas to show some real emotion for his best bud!

I hope this is the last heavy grief over Lardo episode. Once again Irma, Uriel and Mari were killing me. It really makes Mari look more rounded and human and the bonding between her and E-man.

So if Vile is knocked up, isn't the math too far off for her to blame Cris? I hope it is.

Anxious to see what Sev will do now that his beloved son is going to be charged with the hit HE ordered. Dog though he may be, Sev does love Cris and I want to see what he's going to do. I go with out and off Adriano.

Yep. Sylvia and Ren sure did look happy. I hope she can keep him from going to the dark side. Re Cris's arrest, even if Ren "went dark" by not vigorously defending Cris, Sylvia would put her legal chops to work and get her ally, Cris, out of the hoozegow!

Lila

Somehow I dodnt figure that the whole town would be mourning for Lardo, so it made sense to me that life went on in the rest of the town while the friends of the Lagos family grieved with them. Now, if the Padre or one of the Mendozas died, I'd expect more of a widespread show of grief and mourning.

Thank you Vivi. I just knew one of my caray mates would be able to explain away why the raffle was still being held despite the funeral.

The actress playing Irma has a natural beauty. She looked pretty even without makeup. Maybe even prettier.

I don't think his initials are SM by accident.

I have to say that casting Alexis Ayala and Alex Sirvent was brilliant. When you look at their full-face close-ups you see they have the same jawline and vertical dimples, although Alex's are deeper. Susanna Gonzales also has those.

Vivi, I totally agree. This town is a little Peyton Place and probably most of it knew that Abelardo was bad news.

After all these years, I am sure the Traveling Candy House is now pertified and nothing would grow on it. The only thing growing at this point is our curiosity.

Rosemary Primera

Actually, it doesn't even look like it's made out of chocolate; it's too shiny. I suspect it's ceramic.

The only thing growing at this point is our curiosity.

Great line!

Lila- I think Tomas was really grieving, but like Val, who was also grieving, his true nature also came out. His lustful nature. For Val, it was her selfish nature (putting her feelings above her BFF who was grieving for her brother).

So, missed the woosy Val part. Girl had to be playing with fire on purpose hoping to be able to hook Cris somehow. Or she really is that stupid.

So if there is a hot crossed bun in her oven, how does she work around that in this very religious town (though I wouldn't say she was especially church-going)? Please no drugging the galan somehow...please please please.

Can't say Ren and Sylvia holding hands would make me think he's getting interested in her. I had a guy I grew up with form the age of 2, and we used to kid around and hook arms or hold hands when walking around. From Sylvia's perspective, yeah she's looking at that as a positive for future development, he looks at it as she's a dear friend who can be comfortable doing that with.

But this is a TN, so that's most likely the telegraph of future end game.

Sure was nice knowing you Sim. Poor Lola...she better get to know her mother is she wants it fast.

Daisynjay

I don't see how the police chief just takes an anonymous tip and heads after Cris without consulting the most powerful man in town, the guys father. Is he stupid enough to believe Severiano will think this ok? Absent Uriel, I see no rabble outside the jailhouse screaming to find somebody to lynch. If, and that's a big if, Cris is charged with a crime, it should be his parents that hire and pay for his defense. They do not know Aldonza is his wife.

Right, Tofie. Seems the Chief tried to get a bead on where the call was coming from but the heffa hung up too quickly. I hope Uriel will surface from the abyss of grief to remember Adriano coming to his house on the day of the murder.

And hey, looks like that whining wench, Flavia, is NOT Adriano's sister!

Lila

I think what makes this novela better than most of the offerings lately is that so many of the secondary family story lines are compelling in and of themselves; Pru, Hum, Emanuel,Tomas; Melesio, Dominga, Lola; Irma, Uriel, Mari, Lardo (RIP); Sim, Sev; and of course, the candy house! So often, we've been stuck in novelas where the whole dern pueblo is annoying and super dense!

Susanlynn, "Those two old dudes with the young chippies...so sad. Severed is a pig of the first caliber. I cannot wait to see his anvil." So agree, not sure why but I'm seeing him is such a legendarily disgusting way when we have seen so many truly bad, bad antagonists. I think it is that creepy up and down look he gives women that puts a cherry on the top of his evilness!

Great point, Sandy in TN about the secondary stories! They are engaging even if you want to strangle some of them. But that is waay better than contempt or disinterest!

You nailed the yuck factor with Sev. The way he undresses and visually assaults almost every woman he encounters is infuriating and disgusting.

And yes, he DID check out Vale's a$$ one day when she and Cris were still together. Pig of the lowest order!

Lila

Oh yeah, Lila. I beat on Joaquin a bit before but when Flavia ran off with his kid that was it for me but if Adriano is some squeeze, errrrr.

I feel sorry for the boy, the bitch probably told him they were headed to Target to get him a video game and to McDonalds for a happy meal and instead she's with some dude in a can't tell motel.

Sandy in TN, you are right about the side stories. Even this one with Adriano & Flavia could go so many different directions. Does Severiano hunt him down, kill him and Flavia and the boy sees. Do the popo find him and Flavia attempts a reconciliation or does Adriano abandon her sorry butt?

Wonder who Severiano turns to now to do his dirty little deeds done dirt cheap? There's not much job security working for him.

...and that is what being a Sleazebag villain is all about (see past lineup).

To all, please submit candidates for villain categories. Those of you who have my e-mail address please e me about it. Abelelardo, Tomas, and Adriano belong on it.

An Interesting show last night, dark but interesting.

It's funny how sometimes secondary
minor characters can sometimes draw your attention. Yes, Lulu rejecting the slippers as not good enough for the raffle was a cute scene but I really paid attention when she was actually conducting the raffle. I'm not one for raffles but Lulu actually made me wish that I had bought a number or two. She was absolutely great helping to bring in money for the church and making the people happy to participate. I wanted to, she sold me.

Silvia and Renato holding hands. I
sure noticed that. I was thinking
what? really? We will see how far that goes or how long it will last.

Cande in black really did look like the Wicked Witch of the East.
And her eyes---Her eyes were shooting daggers. I don't think it
possible to have a more hate filled look. OMG! if looks could kill, Aldonza would be in big trouble.

The candy house of chocolate or ceramic? No, it's a gingerbread candy house like the ones that we see around Christmas time.

The gun---So Cris is gong to be arrested tonight. It's Sev's gun,
will he deny it? The initials SM,
Sev might say are just a coincidence. Anyway if it is determined to be his, what then?
Ballistics will show that it wasn't the gun that killed Lardo.
Was it even fired? I would have to look at the episode again but didn't Lardo pull the gun and point it and then was shot with the other guys (name?) gun? Or did Lardo fire it and miss? Either way, it wasn't the gun that killed Lardo. So---how even with a phone call from Vile, how can the SL police prove that the murderer was Cristobal?

Wait till Cande hears about Cris'
arrest. That most definitely will be must see tv.
the gringo

Gringo- Didn't Lardo drop the gun, and then Adriana picked it up and shot him with it? I only saw the scene once, but I thought that's also what Adriano told Sever.

Uvideos made the shooting their scene of the day, so I just watched it. It answered the question I asked the other day. Yes, Adriano was wearing gloves. His prints are not in the weapon. Still not sure if the gun he used was the one that got knocked out of Lardo's hands though. Here is the scene: http://tinyurl.com/m25bjro

Vivi---I'm watching 3 1/2 novelas
right now so sometimes past scenes get a little fuzzy. Maybe someone remembers the shooting.
Which episode was it? Last Wednesday, Thursday, Friday?
the gringo

I can't even imagine how LIVID Joaquin is going to be when he learns that Flavia not only ran off with another man, a criminal, but also had their son there with a murderer!!

I really wish they would give us some clue about the Flavia/Adriano connection.

Thank you for watching that scene again, Vivi. Like gringo, I'm watching multiple TNs and I never go back and watch for clarification. Hopefully during my vacation I will have more time for second viewings.

Recap is up,yo!

woo hoo, yo!

Sara, the Adriano Flavia thing came out of left field, I don't think anyone knows how those two hooked up.

I'm still reeling from the Flavia/Adriano curve ball. That's why I wish they would at least define their relationship.

The recap was great, Eli. It was dark, but you still had some snark in you....and in all the right places.

Well, at least my fear that Ray is Adriano's kid was put to rest this episode. When Flavia and Adriano were arguing and she was pointing out that Ray is hungry, Adriana asked why she brought Ray. She pointed out to him that he knew she had a child when they got involved. He thought she should send Ray back to his father, Joaquin.

Thanks for the recap, Eli! Really straightforward. It was indeed a painful episode.

I didn't mind Al and Cris being lovey this episode. I liked how he came to speak to her about how horrible it was to find Lardo, and she wanted to know why he didn't call her right away so that she could be with him to support him while he was dealing with the police. After that, she was really affectionate and attentive to him, making him feel protected and loved. It's what we would typically expect to see/hear from a man after the woman had experienced something traumatic. But it was the reverse here.

Eli, I loved your short and sassy recap. Yes, you did manage to put a little humor in our dark St Lucia evening. My favorite.....“man that house gets around more than a Kardashian.” Now that’s getting around.

Didn’t Cande just hand HER phone to Chris? Everyone who has had to track down a bad roofer (or Satan, ha Eli!) knows you have to use a DIFFERENT phone to get the person who is ignoring you to answer! Duh!

Not going to like seeing Uriel go after Chris which might be in the future....oh dear!

Thank you Sandy. Yep, when I have to call a client to pay up I don't call them from my main line, they will never answer!

Gracias, Eli, for persevering and bringing us a recap!  *hands you a tissue and a melon-tini*

I don’t hate the death-related stuff, but it is very jarring to have these super-emotional scenes intercut with things like the shoddy investigation and Sev’s nastiness and the church raffle. Ok, I get it, life goes on, but do we have to go from sobbing Irma to... well any transition away from sobbing Irma is bound to look bad, 'cause she was bringing it! If anything, the most successful distractions from grief were the ones that happened in the room... Pru and Tomas, Val getting woozy.

I can’t even address anything related to the cops.  It’s just so far beyond needing a beanie…I’ve learned more from having to sit on a jury than those bozos.  I’m imagining cops all over Mexico throwing popcorn at the TV.

“Oh, Simoneta, you fool.”  WORD!  For a second I thought she was going to try to lie and say Cande had the wrong room.

The comments today need a "put down all beverages" warning. Y'all are some funny, funny peeps!

Kat- Which cops were getting to you this episode? The DF cops, who put up minimal resistance to Ren telling them to drop the arson case, since they were paying for the damages to the other condos anyway; or the SL police who got all menacing with Cande about questioning Cris about the gun, and then took an anonymous call about Cris' "motive" seriously?

Diva, “well any transition away from sobbing Irma is bound to look bad, 'cause she was bringing it!” If you mean the actress was doing a fantastic job, I really agree. From prone on the bed, to her teary makeupless face at the wake, then to her sad arm pointing to the casket, I thought Yolanda Ventura did an outstanding job. Wow....

Yes, that was choice....”drop the arson case.” Brain freeze, was Aldonsa’s apartment insured?

Sandy- No insurance. Al and Ren made a deal with the other owners to pay them back from the same of her repaired condo. Apparently the math works, but it means she won't have any money left over from the sale.

The sale of her repaired condo...

Eli, thank you, great recap.

Did Vile really feel woozy or was just a ploy to get of there to make her phone call?

Rosemary Primera

Thanks Eli---Kissing at a wake? I
agree that is so not cool.

A police chief with hookers? Who would have guessed?

Cande said a prayer and wasn't struck down. How long will her luck last?

IMO---It's a big mistake to drop the fire investigation. Don't know about Mexico but here, if there is arson or a crime of some kind has been committed, you just can't say stop the investigation.
Or, I won't press charges against the person who committed the crime. That just wouldn't work here. Was it an arson crime? It had to be. A ghost didn't just decide to burn the apartment down.

I can't wait to see the outcome of Cris in jail.
the gringo

Gracias Vivi, I knew you would know, I started to just ask you directly!!! On another novela a poster nicknamed Vivi, "byte," so appropriate!

Hi all! I've only been popping onto the patio at random hours of late, but man is it good! This community's so active; I love it!

I have to say, yesterday I worried about Cris looking guilty if/when Lardo's role in the fire comes to light, and last night did not calm my fears one bit. If Adriano wore gloves, then they can say Cris wore gloves too. And called the ambulance to look innocent. Between his dad giving Lardo a job when Cris didn't want him to, Cris beating him up over E, him setting fire to Aldie's apt and even his affair with Val, it's going to look like Cris had motive. And Val will play it all up for revenge. I can just see her saying Cris ran off with Aldie on the rebound but still couldn't get over Val and Lardo.

Also, I'm resigning myself, but I still really don't like E and Mari. Sorry, I just don't. She has taken redemptive steps, but I just still don't like her.

Oh Lola. Doesn't Lardo's death show you how short life can be, how unexpected. Don't shut your grandparents out like this, you don't know if you'll have time to make it better.

I had to roll my eyes and smh at Sev's mistress sticking it to his wife while he's cheating on them both with a hooker. Wow, ladies. You can both do better.

Lulu is working her role!

There was no insurance. If there had been, for sure there would be an investigation whether Aldonza wanted one or not.
the gringo

Yeah, Aldonza didn't have insurance for the apartment. The only way I can understand that is if it's considered a civil offense because no one got hurt. If it were a criminal offense, wouldn't the police have to investigate whether or not Aldonza wanted to press charges?

If it's a criminal offense, Aldonza doesn't get to stop the charges. No matter what happened that fire put all the occupants' lives at risk.

Someone needs to point out Abelardo's appearance at Renato's former firm. He was representing Sev's interests in stopping the suit Aldonza was bringing against him about the grazing horses.

There is also the cab driver and maybe the old man who saw him with the gas can.

Hellashelle - reading that list of circumstantial evidence makes me cringe. It will be easy for the SLPD to believe it was Cris.

And with Lardo gone I get nervous that all his crimes will remain hidden and we'll end up with loose ends at the Fin.

We're not even halfway through this, so don't think for a minute we're going to pin anything on Severiano yet.

Great conversation!

Thank you, Eli! It WAS a hard episode and your coverage is perfect!

Gringo, the shooting was Friday. Vivi, I may have to look at your link. I watched the shooting several times but it was dark and the timing of it makes it look like Adriano must have had his own gun. I didn't see where Adriano could've gotten the gun knocked out of Lardo's hand. NOT saying that's your conclusion. It was just a fuzzy, dark scene. I'll recheck it out!

Urban: Someone needs to point out Abelardo's appearance at Renato's former firm. Yes! That AND Adriano's stopping at the Lagos to threaten Lardo!

But, this IS a novela, so we have to have Cris arrested and all the drama THAT will entail! Hoo boy!

Eli - Thank you for the recap! I mean it. I watched my recording while chopping veggies this afternoon, and totally (!!! ack !!!) missed Silvia getting the Candy House. THIS is why I adore all y'all recappers.

So sad for Uriel and Irma.

Loved that last-minute convo between Simoneta & Cande. I really think Cande is going to completely lose it, one of these days, and get herself locked in a rubber room.

I'm a jerk - Sorry Eli! I didn't even thank you for your recap! Which I thought was succinct and had just the right amount of snark. I too want to throw a zapato at Srta. Zapata. And maybe Sra. Zapata too. And maybe Sr. Zapata, though not for anything in this episode really.

Also, I agree that the Dom and Mel scene was very well done. I really like how...realistic? subtle? a lot of this production has been with a lot of its work. I like how Dom and Mel sat seperately for most of this scene, just sinking down under the weight of remembered pain and the struggle to do what's right with Lola. They weren't falling all over each other weeping or anything. And I like that they highlighted them at this moment too, since Lardo's death was a shock to everyone, but its affect on their lives and memories is not as obvious and doesn't further the plot, but still resonates with viewers and speaks to their characters. Good stuff, show.

Great work, Eli.

I also think that Valeria faked the faint to escape from the funeral. It jives with her not wanting to go in the first place.

Nor do I think she is pregnant.

Lola needs to stop being hostile towards her grandparents! She's going to need them down the road!
