La Sombra del Pasado #59 Friday, 5-8-15 Oh, Those Crazy Kids!

Let’s get right to it.   Aldonza can’t take Cris as Marlon Brando anymore and runs out to talk to him but he has driven away!  Cris is pissed!  She doesn’t want to see me?  Okay, she’s not going to see me for the rest of her life!

Cande is with Vale carrying on over whether Cris is with that wench, Aldonza.  Cande calls Sev to see what he knows about Cristobal’s whereabouts.   Sev is with Sim and they have other priorities.  Sim tosses the phone away.

It's a pleasant evening in Santa Lucia.  Eman sees Lola and Pato leaving a restaurant.  It sounds like Pato wants to take a break from their little relationship.  Pato doesn’t think it’s working but he’ll try. He has a request.  Eman has taken a seat in the darkness watching the two.  Apparently he’s close enough to hear Pato ask her to give him a kiss.  Eman watches Lola and Pato kiss and then leaves, hurt.  What Eman doesn’t see is Lola’s underwhelmed expression as the kiss ends.   He doesn’t hear Lola tell him that he doesn’t have a right and not to do it again.  Pato doesn’t know whether she liked it or not.  Then Pato says “Puedo recebir tu òoscolo,” at which point Lola slaps him silly.  Just at that moment Don Mele approaches them.  He’s got a new attitude so he doesn’t comment on the wallop but greets Pato and engages in some word/accent play which I don't get.  Don Mele was going to  leave them to chat but Lola decides to go with him leaving Pato to rub his throbbing jaw and wonder what the heck just happened.

Poor Eman is back at Jock’s (Joaquin) recalling Lola and Pato’s kiss.  Jock arrives home and sees Eman is in a funk.  Eman tells him about the kiss and how wrong he was thinking he could win Lola back.  Jock thinks Eman should give Mary a chance.  He’s young with his whole life ahead of him, kind of love the one you’re with.  Eman thinks Jock may be right.  He’s going to give Mary a chance.  Sheesh!  Advice on love and women from Jock?  Uh, yah.

Okay, these two delusional and obsessed chicks don’t deserve a lot of time.  Cande tells Vale Sev didn’t answer.  Vale says call him again.  Simoneta picks up his phone.  He answers.  Cande rags at him for not answering before and about Cris’s whereabouts.  He’s not with Sev, she found out from Dominga, Cris didn’t say goodbye.  They hang up and Sev calls Aldonza maldita.

Mele and Lola are back at Las Animas and have a little chat on the porch.  They play a cute kind of musical chairs as they talk, taking turns sitting in the cozy floral rocker.  Mele knows they were arguing and Lola finds out that un òoscolo  is a kiss.  Mele calls the word a Dominguera (a trademark Dominga word) which he hadn’t heard for years.  Tell me something, it did sound kinda dirty and Lola thought so, too.   Mele notes Lola seems somewhat sad, she doesn’t share why but tells him before going in the house that she slapped that lizard, Vale, but she deserved it.  Mele finally reclaims the rocker and chuckles that Lola inherited Dominga’s character.

Ooo yes!  A scene with Lardo and Tomas I actually like!  Tomas brags about Pru being one hot momma and he’s sure she was about to give it up!   Lardo thinks Pru is a cash cow and they should milk her!  Tomas wants to do her first, he’s invested a lot of time in the seduction and besides, they need photos or videos or other compromising evidence.  Lardo says he is a flesh and blood witness right now.  No, Tomas disagrees, he kind of likes her.   Lardo proposes that Tomas continue to enjoy the forbidden fruit, establish himself as her lover and he will put a different kind of screw to her.  Tomas has stopped his weak protest and is thinking.

More bitter chatter between the older, frigid and the younger, nymphomaniacal shrew about Cris and Aldonza.  Older shrew calls Dominga and demands to talk to Lola who is in her room thinking of yesterday’s almost kiss with Eman  and the actual lack luster kiss with Pato.  Dominga interrupts her little private video:  she must come out and talk to Cande and Vale at once.  Lola thinks it’s about the slap she gave Vale.

Cris continues driving through the night remembering his marriage proposal to Aldonza which she first answered with a kiss.  He stops the car.    Dammit, she’s going to open that door, and she’s going to hear him TONIGHT!  He makes a reckless U-turn and almost gets hit!

Dominga delivers Lola for the audience before Cande who asks if Aldonza is in Mexico.  Lola denies having any knowledge of where Aldonza is, not having talked to her since Padre J got out of the hospital.  Vale says Lola is lying, just as one would expect of a maid.  Dominga demands Vale respect Lola.  Vale says Lola needs to learn to give respect if she wants to receive it.  Vale accuses Lola of knowing Cris and Aldonza are in Mexico together.  Nope, she didn’t know it but she’s glad that Cris is showing her that she is worthless to him.  Vale has had it with this uppity, low class maid and wallops Lola a good one!  PI-YOW!!  Insert MEOWS AND SCREECHES here as Lola goes for Vale’s throat and Dominga and Cande struggle to pull them apart.  Vale says Lola started it for slapping her in her own house, Lola says Vale started it for being a bitch to Eman!  Cande sternly admonishes Lola that she will not have her disrespect Vale and Dominga says if Vale aggresses against Lola, she will give back as good as she gets!  Cande dismisses Dominga and Lola.  They will disucss this later!  Lola shoots daggers from her eyes before Dominga drags her away!  Cande cautions Vale – AGAIN—that she must control her impulses:  that stupid Lola is the best friend of Aldonza and if she throws Lola out of the house over a fight she had with Lola, SHE could be the biggest loser!

Ah, where is Eman whose kiss could not be bested and for whom Lola walloped the wench, Vale?  He’s still pouring his heart out to Jock, this time about the hell he was so glad to escape and the talk he had with Doc.  Poor Eman fights to not break down as he confesses that he feels he doesn’t belong anywhere.  He’s never had a home anywhere like everyone else.   He is a tortured soul, a vagabond wandering through life with no origin and no destiny.  Jock assures him that he has a home and is welcome there.  Eman thanks him but says a roof is not enough.  He needs a family but there is nobody in his future.  The woman of his dreams, who moved him so deeply doesn’t want anything to do with him.  Jock tells Eman he is not alone.

Out on the streets of Santa Lucia this evening, we find Humberto who literally runs into the Perfume shop owner.  He doesn’t recognize her.  She asks if Hum liked the surprise gift Pru brought for him.  Hum’s face does not light up with recognition.  The shop owner concludes she has ruined the surprise!  She apologizes and scurries away!  Hum looks like he smells a rat.

Steps away Lardo has not waited to present Pru with his little business proposition.  He tells her his silence always has a price and asks how much she’s willing to pay to keep her husband from finding out what is going on with Tomas.  Just then Hum steps up and it’s Lardo turn to scurry away.  Caught off guard, she has a flimsy lie that barely covers her ass.   She claims Lardo came to give her a message that Cande is not able to meet with her for breakfast in the morning.  Hum asks why didn’t Cande call her.  Oh, you know your cousin, blah, blah. . .Pru tries to beat a cool but hasty retreat.

Uh oh, Lardo runs into his poker mates but they’re not feeling so chummy.  Lardo owes the leader of the pack, Adriano, some money.   Yah, yah, Lardo knows and as a matter of fact he’s about to launch a little enterprise that should deliver big lana.  Adriano is not impressed, roughs up Lardo and warns him that he will pay with money or with his life!

Cande is still pacing and plotting with Vale.  Cande says they must calm down and think:  they’re going to go on the assumption that Aldonza is through with Cris because of the kiss.  Cande decides they need to break for the night.  Vale leaves Las Animas and decides she has to resolve this now and calls Cris’s cell.  At that very moment Cris is gripping the steering with determination and declaring of Aldonza, “If you love me, you will open the door and you will listen.”   The object of Cris’s desire is at Renato’s house examining her half of the escapulario of luurve; she kisses it and cries and holds it to her heart.   Cut to Cris!   His phone rings.  He sees it’s Vale.  He reaches for it to answer and hits a cement stanchion, banging his head into the steering wheel!  Oh noes!!!!

When she gets no answer, Vale thinks Cris is for sure with Aldonza.  She’s right, but not in the way Vale thinks.  Aldonza hears the crash, runs outside, joined by Renato!  Oh, my God!  It’s right outside Renato’s house!  It’s Cris!  We see his bloodied face and hears his horn blaring, this time involuntarily as he lies, dazed (with good reason this time) against the steering wheel!  A concerned passerby flings open the door asking if Cris is okay.  Aldonza runs to the car calling Cris's name!  She sees his dazed and bloodied face and whispers with loving urgency “My love!  Are you okay?  Don’t move!  We’ll get you to a hospital!”  Renato asks Cris if he has insurance.  He does.  Renato takes charge instructing the housekeeper, Lucy, to get his insurance papers from the glove compartment and put them in his truck, rapido!  Aldonza and Renato help a groaning Cris out of the car.  Renato cautions Cris to be calm as they help him hobble from the wreck.  She’s all my love and helps him out of the car with Renato helping to support Cris's weight on the other side!  Be still, oh thou hearts of Renato lovers!

Hey, Hum and Pru are back home and he confronts Pru!  He wants to know what the hell is going on, why was she talking to Lardo:  he knows the whole breaking the breakfast date with Cande is a lie.  He wants her to fess up right now if she’s hiding anything!   Pru decides to weave the Lardo/Vale story line into her tale.  She says this tipo, had the nerve to mess with. .  .Hum interrupts her, mess with who?  With half of Santa Lucia, she answers, and that makes her indignant!  Okay, Hum says he’s not going to beat around the bush, if he finds out that she has a lover . . .PI-YOW!!  Upside the head goes Pru and off she stomps into the bathroom!

Hum yells through the door that they are not finished.  He also wants to know about what happened with Eman:  he’s especially worried since he doesn’t want to come back to the house.  Hum wants to know why she hates him, what did he ever do to her?  She opens the door!  Because he is an opportunist, an intruder who wanted to snare our daughter so he could horn in on high society!  Hum tells her to shut it because Eman comes from a very fine family:  he’s not a starving to death nobody like she thinks!  Pru counters with Hum having always maintained that the mother died when he was born, right?  And this woman had nobody in the world and that is why he had compassion for him and took him in.  Hum says yes, she died.  Pru demands to know who the father is then if he is so sure Eman came from a good family.  Who’s the father she yells repeatedly.  Hum looks her calmly and evenly in the eyes and asks, “You really have no idea who he is?”  A pregnant silence ensues during which Pru quietly meets his steady gaze.  “You mean you’re trying to tell me it’s, you?  You miserable. . .you liar!  I asked you over and over and every time you denied it!”  PI-YOW!  Pru slugs him again!  Hum tells her to think what she damned well pleases.  Pru hisses through gritted teeth that the bottom line Eman is a bastarrrrrdo and thank God he’s no longer there with her and her daughter!    Oh yeah, well you’re a bitch and you’re going down, you round-heeled, cougar-wanna-be, MIL that will get F'd but not the way you wanna be!  Sorry.  I lost my head, but I feel better.

Aldonza paces nervously outside the room wherein lies the injured Cris.  A nurse in crisp whites tells her she can see her novio now.  Cris's hands are crossed over his chest and he heaves a huge sigh as she enters the room.  She asks how he feels.  Bad.  Real bad.  He thought she had left.  Oh, how could she leave him?  He wonders if he’s going to die.  Of course not.  If she is with him, then he can die in peace!  She tells him to stop talking nonsense.  He asks for a kiss.  Aldonza leans in and their lips lightly touch. . . .when the Doctor comes in!  Okay, Cris is free to go.  They need the bed for another patient.  Jigs up but Cris tries to work it a little longer but hey, por favor buddy, we need the bed.  Ok, lets go!  Cris swings his legs around and smartly hops up.  Aldonza realizes she’s been played and Cris and the Dr. exchange a wink, wink, nudge, nudge smile!  Hot head Aldonza tries to cop an attitude and calls him a hypocrite and liar and herself stupid for believing him.

Well, now I’ll stop beating around the bush.  They joke a little bit about his accident being a pretext to get her to see him again and show him some love.  He FINALLY gets her to listen to him about the kiss Vale “forced” on him and he leverages her rage with the whole sleeping in Renato’s bed thing.  He successfully argues that it’s NOT different.  He tells her he doesn’t want a long discussion, just tell him that she’s not mad, that she forgives him and that they’re going to be married.  She tries to walk away because this is NOT the place to discuss these personal issues.  He pulls her to him.  Now, my friends go back and look at the girl’s face when he does that.  He pulls her to his body and says he wants an answer NOW.  She looks into his eyes and then at his lips and says, very well, let’s get married!   The two go in for a serious òoscolo, you know, the kind where they double clutch for maximum coverage, stimulation and exchange of fluids.  Yah, brief, but like that.  When their lips part there is the fluffy-haired, five o’clock shadowed Renato.  He graciously stops Aldonza from explaining.  He congratulates them.  “This was going to happen sooner or later.  You have always been in love with Cristobal.  Although you make up to breakup, you always have been in love, it’s clear you need to be together.  Congratulations.”  Renato even manages the most subtle of smiles.  You know, I always thought he was cute, but go back and look after that last congratulation.  My man is fine as wine.

Okay.  I confess.  I have no idea what happens in this next scene.  Lardo is doing something with a phone??  He tells Tomas what he’s doing but I don’t get it.  Did he change the sim card, or what?  Please help!

Simoneta is with Sev asking him if he’s going to look for Cris.  Sev tries to call Lardo, but gets a recording.  Does that have something to do with what Lardo did with the phone?  Sev calls home and talks to Cande.  They yip and yap about the lost Cris, DF is too big, why don’t you go ask your beloved priest; it’s too late. . . .

It’s been a long night, peeps, in SL and here.  Let’s wrap this up.  Irma can’t sleep and is gazing out her bedroom window, waiting for Lardo to appear.  Uriel comes to comfort her.  Sev is hiding Lardo.  Why is he hiding if he didn’t do anything?  Uriel says the have to trust Sev.  Uriel gently suggests that Mary is right; they have spoiled him, it’s way past time for him to take responsibility for his acts.  She knows, but that’s her son.  Uriel says they have to make an effort to allow things to evolve naturally.  Nice people.  They are the heart of Santa Lucia.  He is the ass.

Awww, it’s Cris with Aldonza, asleep on his lap.  He gently strokes her arm and awakens her with kisses.  He hasn’t slept because he didn’t want to miss one moment of the feeling of holding her in his arms.  Awwwww!  They’re at  Renato’s house.  Cris muses how cool Renato was with him, helping him take care of the insurance matter and all.   Aldonza adds that his father is as well.  They are both good people.  Cris is quiet for a moment.  “I’m thinking. . .Let’s get married right now, TODAY de civil.”  Aldonza says her aunt won’t forgive her and does he have his papers.  Oh, yeeeeaaah.  Don’t leave home without them!  Who will be their witnesses.  Renato?  No, not Renato.  But she knows who!

Cande goes to J’s house, Ade greets her coldly, Adelina lets her in.  Cande is holding her body tightly as if she doesn’t want Adelina and Aldonza cooties to enter her nostrils.  She walks over to where a surprised Padre J is having breakfast.   He knows Aldonza is not there.  Did he know that she went with Cristobal?   She demands the address and phone number of where they are staying!   No, they didn’t go together and essentially Padre asks Cande why she doesn’t get off their got-damned backs for crying out loud!  (I’ll say that for Padre!)

Cande really is stupid in what she says next.  “I told you a million times he is not going to have anything to do with the daughter of Roberta Lozada!  She is an indecent girl. . . .”

Adelina steps forward.  “Hold on just a minute!  I am not going to allow you to speak this way of sister or my niece when you are the least indicated to speak of decency when you dare to fix your eyes on a Priest, and not only your eyes, but your lips as well!  Or how do you wish to describe the scene I encountered when he was in intensive care!”  This episode has been full of slaps and scurrying!  That tight-assed heffa heisted her tail out of that house so fast, all she left was a faint scent of sulfur!  Padre J tries to get on Adelina about exposing Cande but he doesn’t really press the point and Adelina is like, sorry, but I had to with what she was spewing!  Amen, Sister!

Oh, those crazy kids are in front of a judge!  Cris is casual in his (hopefully laundered) pants and vest, Aldonza has a cute little two piece number in white with a sequined top and tight little mini.  All my pissivity in yesterday’s comments are gone (for now).  They look so stinkin’ cute!   And look at the witnesses!  It’s the sisters from her old order!  Srs. Soccoro, Bernadita, and three others!

Uh oh.  Sev approaches Renato in a car.  Renato gets out and asks Sev what can he do for him.  Sev asks if Renato knows where Cris and Aldonza are.  A slow smile lights Renato's face.  Oh, he knows but he doesn’t think Sev really wants to know!  Good!  Don’t mar this moment!

We hear the end of the vows.  They and all the Sisters sign the register .  By Jove, they’re married!!!  They declare their love and kiss and hug!

Dang. This is long! Sorry peeps! I called myself shortening it!

Oh well. I hope y'all feel better. Speaking for myself, I do. I was ready to snatch a knot in Aldonza's a$$ yesterday and we all had a passionate discussion in comments about Cris/Aldonza/Renato. Well, this episode ought to be enough for us to chew on for the whole weekend.

Loved me some Adelina in this episode and Renato!

Have at it!

...WHAT?!

Seriously: color me stunned.

But first things first: Thank you Lila for that fabulous recap. My absolute favorite recapping line: That tight-assed heffa heisted her tail out of that house so fast, all she left was a faint scent of sulfur! LOLOL!!!! Too funny. Other contenders:
Lardo thinks Pru is a cash cow and they should milk her!
[Sheesh! Advice on love and women from Jock? Uh, yah.] I know, right! Like that advice worked so well for him! (well, he did get an adorable kid)
PI-YOW!! Insert MEOWS AND SCREECHES here as Lola goes for Vale’s throat
Nice people. They are the heart of Santa Lucia. He is the ass.

But seriously...WHAT?!

You're right Lila girl, there is much to discuss. But it's too late...or early for me; just wanted to say thank you for the recap before I went to bed. I'll see y'all on the patio later!

Thanks, Lila. This was a great rollicking episode, and you covered it wonderfully!

I'll bet the writers had a ball writing this one. I can see them rolling on the floor laughing as they suggested situations and lines to each other.

Well, this marriage was a hybrid event: It was a civil ceremony, but, when a whole convent full of nuns are the witnesses, you can't exactly say that there wasn't a religious component to it.

I can't believe how civil Renato is being, but he sure seems sincere - at least for now.

I loved the game of musical chairs between Lola and her abuelo.

E-man continues to have my pity. Not only is he looking for love in all the wrong places, he is seeking advice from one of the worst possible sources in all of SL. His yearning for a real family will eventually explode in his face: Be careful what you wish for, buddy.

Thanks again, Lila. This was just so much fun!

Good Saturday morning all!! Lila this was wonderful. Insightful, detailed and funny as all. I'm fighting a slight cold(survived the winter with nothing and get one in the spring?) and you just cheered me up!!

First, can I say, Renato deserves the a gold cup ending in this sorry tale. Seriously, THIS:
"You know, I always thought he was cute, but go back and look after that last congratulation. My man is fine as wine. "
The thought he probably winds up with manipulative Sylvia doesn't thrill me. She's better than some options I guess.

I will go on record as saying this marriage will last as long as it takes for everyone to find out and then KABOW! We will have another break up or misunderstanding.

I am not entirely comfortable with the fact Allie has gotten herself hitched without a word to Cris about her traumatic past. The writers better not be painting the whole rape as something she just "got over". Add to that, how does she think she's going to move forward with her vengeance plans married to her target's son...who is clueless? Yeah, this isn't going to be pretty.

And of course, we will have a romantic wedding night (please dear lord, don't have it be at Ren's house---that's too much. He would have to qualify for sainthood to let them do that. Get thee to a hotel.) I will go there--pregnancy alert?

Yes, we have possibly entered the tired cliche of a couple breaking up with the heroine hiding a pregnancy? THink? Hitting head against wall.....

And HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the mom's out there!!

Daisynjay

Daisynjay- You and I both woke up this morning with the cruds, after a whole winter of wellness. Ugh!

Lila- Loved this recap as much as I loved this crazy episode. I got home late and watched it while really tired, so think I'll research it today, or at least some of the great key scenes you described.

I think we need to stop expecting the expected from Al and Cris. These kids are crazy and impulsive adrenaline junkies. I thought they were adorable with their playful banter in the hospital. Cris looked so happy having Al wake up in his arms. I like how he and Renato both acknowledged each other as important to Al and good peeps. Loved seeing all the nuns again. Cris' face of surprise when they walked in was hilarious.

Eman continues to break my heart. But I'm also proud of him for saying out loud all the things he has been feeling. The last few episodes he has been the most self aware character in this tn. In theory, Joaquin's advice is good advice. He shouldn't keep pining for Lola, just like he shouldn't have kept pining for Adelina. But instead of just launching into a relationship with the next person who comes along, it would have been better for them both to remain alone for a while and/or wait for another person who they really want to be with.

Rewatch not research. Oh tablet. Quit correcting my made up words.

Good Morning, Sombra Peeps!

You win the Early Bird Award Hella! thank you, Girl! Yah, they pulled a fast one! Get some rest and come on back!

Hey David, thank you for partaking so early! This WAS fun! Isn't Renato just so damned decent! Wow! I love the guy! David, Eman I'm sure plucked a lot of heart strings this episode. I just wanted to reach through the screen and hug him! I know Lola's the one. She's just got to grow up some more. Mele and Dom are giving her space -- let's hope NOT rope -- and I know she will form a wonderful family with Eman one day. I just hope they don't make us wait til ultimas semanas.

Hey, Daisy! Thank you and glad I brought you some cheer! Yah, Daisy. Sylvia IS manipulative but Renato was not seeing what he confessed today about Cris and Donnie. I think at heart she's good but Renato wasn't hearing her. I don't believe you can make somebody love you but I think Renato was just under the spell of the powerful Roberta come hither pheromones. Poor Roberta might have given such a guy a roll, but Aldonza doesn't roll like that. Renato's got to let that dream die now that Cris and Donnie are married. I know, I know this marriage will last as long as it takes for everyone to find out and then KABOW! We will have another break up or misunderstanding.

Yep. I content they've BEEN glossing over the rape. The whole novela is putting lip gloss on the rabid pig of Sev's assault. Agree there future is sure to be rocky and YES -- GET A ROOM!

Hey, Vivi! Yah, Girl, go back and rewatch and recheck the cap as I added a couple of links and did some tweaking!

I think we need to stop expecting the expected from Al and Cris Yes, Vivi. This was my conclusion too as I thought about our spirited discussion on the patio yesterday! Cris and Donnie certainly brightened me up cause you know I was gonna get 'em both! They WERE so adorable in the hospital!

Oh, Eman. Oh, my Lord! The boy was KILLIN' me! <3 )))))))))) Vibes of LOVE to ya, Baby! Yah. He needs to let his heart heal from the hell of Hum's house and what he thinks is going on with Lola! She is NOWHERE near as self-aware as Eman is!

Here's your initial bolding my friends, Hellashelle and David. Thank y'all again!

Lila, don't worry about the length. When something is well-written nobody minds. Hell, I'm usually twice as verbose in a comment!

Ditto Hellashelle's comments on the best lines. I was cheering when Adelina called Candela out on her indecent lust for the Padre. Queen Bitch has met her match at last.

I am now very concerned about what the wedding night will be like. I am also predicting (no, I've not looked ahead) that either Sev or Cande will contact a judge of their acquaintance to have the marriage annulled behind Aldonza and Cristobal's backs. More later.

Ok, with more sleep I can say ...WHAT?!

Daisy, I am so with you. Is Aldie really thinking she will just NEVER tell Cris that his father raped her? And she'll have no issue at all with her next sexual encounter? And what about when her kids ask why she wants to crush and ruin their grandfather?

Thumbs up to Pato and Renato! Way to not turn into TN villains when the girl of your suenos wants to be with another guy. Lola, don't go breaking his heart. Place it down gently when you're finished playing with it.

Did Renato have a lightbulb moment last night? When Aldie kissed Cris, I know I was like "Really? Just like that? Ok, forget it, just...just do whatever." so I can only imagine he was also shaking his head and giving up. That was fast though.

And while I know Cris and Aldie are now head in the clouds happy, to sleep in his house and get married the next day, not to mention Cris considering him a witness? -- it's just a little much for me. Sometimes these two just don't consider anyone but themselves. It would be nice to see him join their team though. Lord knows, they could use a cool head. Last night when he was getting Cris out of the car, I thought he's not a lawyer and doctor's son for nothing (except for the part when Aldie moved Cris's head before he moved himself).

I forgot about nun girl! She must be the missing link! I guess she's Pato's eventual love?

And wow! I didn't think things would accelerate with Hum and Pru so quickly! I'm glad Pru thinks he's Hum's because if she knew he's Sev's, she'd have Val all over that in a heartbeat. Though I thought she said she hadn't thought Emm could be Hum's before Val mentioned it?

Also, Lila - Lardo was saying his battery keeps dying and Tomas was like taking it out won't fix it. I think that was a random unnecessary scene to explain why Sev couldn't reach him.

Thanks, Lila! I haven't seen the episode yet and I am stunned, but kind of pleased by this turn of events.

I agree with your quip about taking relationship advice from Joaquin. That "Love the one you're with" tactic didn't work out so well for him.

The "scent of sulfur" line was great.

Oh! hi everyone! I started commenting when it was still at 4 comments, so sorry for repeating what ppl already.

Anyway, the song we're hearing with Lola and Emmanuel is apparently "Si no me vas a querer" by Gabriel Navarro.

Thank you so much hellashelle!

Good point UA--this is only the civil ceremony which in TN law opens all sorts of possibilities to make it go away.

I can't even think about E-man anymore without tearing up. I watch him and the way Alex plays the character and dang, he just keeps giving me this tragic vibe. He wants to belong somewhere so badly, but what happens when he finds out who he truly is. I would hope Cris and Allie would welcome him with open arms, but if they are too tangled in their own misery, does E-man go off the deep end at what might have been?

I agree...Joaquin I don't think was thinking of Flavia when he was bemoaning the one that got away...but thought it funny his advice is oh, just go play with someone else. I'm with you Vivi, concentrate on yourself, new job, etc. Honestly the best thing for E-man would have been to talk to Hum about helping have him go off somewhere, maybe to learn a trade or go to school and just get some fresher air out of SL.

One moment to look forward to, I talk the KABOW when the news of the wedding hits the air waves, but aren't we all looking forward to seeing Cande's braids go three sizes too tight and her eyes bug out, the veins on Sev's neck go ultra tight, Val's teeth clench until they fall out and hey, even Ade is going to have an attack. That should make for some fun viewing. We need popcorn on the patio for those moments.

(I'll be able to do without Sylvia's probably smug reaction and please don't show anymore Ren being teary eyed. Thanks writers.)

Daisynjay

Urban! Thank you! Wasn't Adelina the greatest! She and Renato deserve some kind of award this episode! So satisfying to see Cande taken down! Alas, Urban, having the marriage annulled sounds just like Cande and Sev but Cris and Donnie are adults! Is that even possible! Yeah, that idea is definitely worth more consideration!

Oh, wow! Comments are building! Let me go rattle some pots and pans for breakfast and I'll see y'all in a bit! Carry on!

I'm going to be the dissenter and hope it doesn't get annulled. That annoyed the stew out of me in TSTSNBN. Keep them apart somehow, but don't annul the marriage.

No idea why I have that opinion, I just do.

No Sara, I'm with you on that. In TSTSNBN it made sense, but here they were very clear that both Aldie and Cris had their papers.

BTW, why so many nuns? why so many envelopes? I was confused and sleepy then, but can someone explain that part to me?

Hellashelle- I believe the envelopes had their identity papers in them. Why so many? Probably because they all wanted to be there!

Oh! Wait, you mean the nuns' ID papers, yes?

Yes. Copies of their id papers to prove they were valid witnesses, not just some actors the bride and groom picked up off the street. :)

Golly, Lila I love your "meanwhile back at the ranch" style and started highlighting almost the whole thing but love, love, love "pissivity".

Couldn't watch most of the week and so happy to sit back and enjoy last night and was ready to be depressed the weekend, but what I got was Mexican Graffiti with Opie and Cindy Williams reuniting. Yeah!

Back later to comment more.

Sara, I'm with you in disliking the go-behind-the-back-of-the-newly-married-couple and get the marriage annulled plot device, but I'll bet Sev and Cande try it.

It might almost work in the short term, since I'm sure Sev has some juez in his pocket, but in the long run, considering Cris' and Aldonza's ages, and the presence of so many witnesses I don't see how it can go anywhere.

Also, suppose that Sev is successful in getting it annulled. If it were me, I would just say, "Okay, we're not legally married anymore, but I'm still gonna live with her."

David

I only have a minute to comment before going out to meet friends for breakfast. I did not have a chance to read the recap or the comments , but I am looking forward to doing that later in the day.Lila, thanks for being so speedy so that the party could get started.

However, I had to say...WHAT? What just happened ? The Sound of Music speedy quick civil wedding followed by cuddling on a sofa somewhere...was that final scene at Renato's ? QTH !

If Sev has any local judge in his pocket, Cristobal and Aldonza's age won't matter. Remember that he is the master of turning lies into truths and rewriting history.

Honestly, the way he constantly goes on about Aldonza being mentally ill would be enough to drive her to actual madness, which might ultimately be his motive for doing this. I would love for her to fake her death and frame him for it, but that would now be difficult.

Unless the writers are intentionally playing with our heads, Emmanuel has a sister from another mister and a brother from another mother. Both Aldonza and Cristobal love him and neither would reject him although the situation will freak all of them out at first.

While on the subject of rejection, who thinks that Candela and/or Severiano will disown Cristobal for marrying Aldonza when they find out?

Thank you Lila, I don't mind at all that it was long, in fact it was necessary because so much happened.

I'm surprised too that they got married already. And I don't see how even a crooked judge can annul a marriage between two consenting adults. But once they consummate the marriage, (and maybe a pregnancy), there's no turning back, whether it's annulled or not.

If it weren't for Sylvia, these two would never have gotten together and married, I don't dislike her at all. She's a good friend and I hope she ends up with Renato.

Interesting story line with Humberto starting to suspect Pru having an affair. I hope he remembers her bible study she started and puts two and two together.

I think the annulment thing bothers me because I hate the idea of Sev and Cande getting their way and being on top. Which is ridiculous of me because I know that Standard TN Operating Procedure dictates that they are on top until the Fin.

I don't have to be happy about it though.

Urban! Hmmm. Would they disown Cris? Well, I don't put anything past him but he just told Sev last Friday he could shove the hacienda where the sun don't shine (which would be the same as giving it to Lardo, which he REALLY suggested), so I don't think Sev would consider that would have any impact.

Since we have to expect the unexpected, would he suddenly claim Eman and give him Cris's rights (through some wonky legal shenanigans) and turn Eman dark? That's unlikely but hey, this is Sev! Of course, Cande would have an adult cow and THAT would be fun to watch!

Would Sev try to spin the rape story to make Cris think Aldonza willingly gave herself to him? I could see the dog doing that!

I doubt that Emmanuel would accept in view of how Sev has treated him. Not to mention that Cande would have fits on top of fits.

I can't see Sev giving it all to Lardo, either. He might make a promise he has no intention of keeping in order to get him to do more dirty work, but I even hesitate on that one. Lardo has been unpredictable in the past and with the matter of the fingerprints, the gas can, and the gambling debts he's showing evidence of stupidity that will ultimately be very expensive.

No; I suspect that Sev would just try to impregnate another woman (willing or otherwise) and hope for a boy. We can all be grateful that Aldonza didn't end up pregnant from the rape.

Thanks, Hellashelle for that bit on the phone! couldn't figure that one out!

Hey, Sara! You gotta come back and chime in once you've seen it! Thank you!

Daisy, I love your description of what may happen when news of the marriage hits the fan! Hee Hee!

Sara, I'm with you. I don't want the annulment either, it just does so seem like something Sev and Cande would do, even if they get a shyster lawyer and the whole thing is bogus!

Hey, Tofie! Thanks, Girl! See ya later!

Ha! Susanlynn! Thanks, hon! Go get fortified with breakfast and then come on back here and set a spell, ya hear?

Thanks, Cathyx! Hey, Sylvia AND Val were instrumental in this marriage! It was while Cris was trying to answer Val's call that Cris was distracted and hit the stanchion! Cris being all banged and bloody forced Aldonza to gush LUV all over Cris! I can't wait to see that harpy Vale's face when she finds out they're hitched!!

And Cathyx, I think the bogus Bible study is part of what made him come right out and confront yer. YES!

I can't wait to see everyones faces when they come back to Santa Lucia and live together too. At Aldonza's?
Now Cris can team up with Aldonza's farm and get it up and running since he'll be out of a job too. So now Aldonza can have Emanuel, Joaquin and Cris helping her.

A truly fun episode and a delightfully funny recap, Lila, you are a master at visual wit:

“More bitter chatter between the older, frigid and the younger, nymphomaniacal shrew about Cris and Aldonza.”

“Cande is holding her body tightly as if she doesn’t want Adelina and Aldonza cooties to enter her nostrils.”

Well done! Thanks...

I’m throwing caution aside, I know the newlyweds have very serious issues, but I just want to enjoy their delightful wedding chemistry for a moment. It has been a while in novela land to find actors who seem to have any chemistry together, AT ALL. Ok, after I float around this morning thinking about the nun filled, happy office wedding, I’ll be back later to help analyze all of the very serious problems hanging over their, for now, happy little heads.....

I really like Em’s flower print shirts, you gotta love a guy that can carry that off!

Awww, thank you Sandy in TN! I'm with you, girl! Let's DO enjoy their chemistry and kisses and sweet nothings! I like that cause we know there's going to be HELL to pay! See ya later!

Three things will now need to happen:

-- Renato has to be made aware that Sev and Cande may put up a legal fight about the marriage. He, Sylvia, and Patricio need to get their ducks in a row.

-- Padre Jeronimo needs to be told immediately. Adelina won't be happy about this.

-- Padre Jeronimo needs to know about the rape. Both he and Adelina need to steer Aldonza to a shrink (since we have no clue if she ever saw one right after the crime).

Agree completely about filling Padre in on the rape. They've really dropped the ball on that part of the story.

I like your 3-point plan, Urban. I didn't read your weekend post about sexism and misogyny in tns but I suspect the rape is not being addressed because somebody thought it was a good plot device useful to grab and shock viewers and to fuel Aldonza's rage and thirst for revenge in the beginning of the show but now it's like. . . .EH! "they just had sex, it's no big deal!" I think that's what they're doing. Maddening.

Lila--enjoyed your big rompin' recap this morning! Thanks so much!

Discussion is already well under way, so let me just add my two cents:

Still heartbroken for poor, misplaced E-Man. He's got nowhere to run to... so sad.

Furious that Cande marched into Padre J's house to demand Aldonza's whereabouts. So happy that Adelina reminded Cande that kissing sleeping priests sort of takes away your moral high-ground.

What about the fund raiser sale at the church, wonder when we are going to see our old friend the Candy House again?

Feeling sorry also for Lardo's parents, they are going through H3LL worring about their worthless kid.

Poor Renato, so decent...he lets his true love and HER true love sleep the night away in his living room? Please don't let Renato end up with Sylvia, please please...

J in Oregon

Renato has a loving father, good friends, and an inheritance. He will survive.

I hope we can soon say the same about Emmanuel. Humberto needs to do something and fast.

Ok, I’ve floated back down to earth.....

Might be going against common thought here, but Aldonsa’s psychological needs go way beyond pastoral counseling, she needs very complex analysis, a heavy duty DF psychologist as an advisor. If I were her, in my heart of hearts, I would worry that the intimacy of my marriage might be severely damaged with the revelation that my husband’s father raped me. There is just such an icky factor to this particular type of violation. We have a saying now that you can’t “un-see” something, can you “un-hear/feel” this? Can Chris feel the same physically toward his esposa after learning this terrible secret. Contrary to popular current theories, I might just keep this terrible secret to myself, and hope to get my venganza in another way, unless a great DF psychologist walks me in another direction. I’m just mulling my thoughts over and welcome other’s ideas on the topic.

I totally agree, UA: Humberto gave Emmanuel "room and board" all those years, but he never noticed how his wife and daughter treated the boy, and he never have him any affection. It's amazing Emmanuel grew up into such a decent adult.

J in O

Not everyone who has been raped needs therapy. There are some individuals who can deal with the trauma by themselves and can move past it. Let's wait and see how Aldonza does with intimacy with Cris before demanding the need for psychoanalysis.

I am expecting Em to be rewarded with a family in the end....Lola, a bouncing baby, and loving grandparents...Dom and Mel.

Wow, great recap Lila of a great episode. And so many comments, it took a while to read them all.

So, they got married in a fever! Will one of them leave for Jackson?

There is no way the ranch can be given to anyone other than Cris. It belongs to Cande not Sev and I do believe that no matter what Cris does, Cande will eventually forgive him.

I would love to see Pru at the other end of the gun that kills Lardo. She is the one with the most to lose, so he must go, and then hopefully, she will go straight to jail. (I am just wishing this were so)

Hum has been so busy covering Sev assets that he has not had time to even notice what is happening in his own house. Poor Eman. He would have been better off being adopted by a loving couple. He better have a good ending in this TN or my TV may end up on I-10 after I throw it out.

I loved all of the Sisters and obviously they all love Aldonza. The look on Cris' face was priceless.

I bet Al tells Cris about the rape and they will both be okay. She has had a long time to heal and Cris may never speak to Sev again. There is nothing like being scorned by your own child.

Will we see the Candy House next week?

Rosemary Primera

Maybe Lola will be at the church when the auction takes place. I'm sure they announce the donor names and she will wonder how Tomas' parents got their hands on it.

OR Emmanuel will purchase it and find the engagement ring inside and that will be the ring he ultimately gives to Lola.

Thank you, J in Oregon! I'm hoping, as one of my friends suggested above, that Renato, Cris, Sylvia and Pato join team Aldonza and give the old, evil farts hanging on to the past a run for their money!

Sandy, we are all waiting to see if any impact of the rape will be depicted. We all know Aldonza must feel some impact but the only time they've depicted anything other than her unamed rage except that one time with the dream where Cris turned into Sev. That was VERY effective and creepy. Whether she gets counseling or not, many of us are hoping they don't just act like it's a non-issue. But while they may not treat it as an issue requiring counseling, I don't see how it will NOT figure in the dynamics between Cris and Aldonza some kind of way!

Thank you, Rosemary Primera!

He better have a good ending in this TN or my TV may end up on I-10 after I throw it out. Ha! That's hilarious!

If Aldonza tells Cris and he takes it okay in terms of not rejecting her and I don't expect anything else, I could definitely see Cris cutting off all contact with Sev which should crush Sev!

Urban, I like E-man finding the candy house and eventually giving the ring to Lola!

I was wondering if Eman was going to get the candy house now that he's in need of some Catholic charity. Like, maybe an awed Lulu might decide his amazing jaw line and beautiful abs are payment enough?

Cathyx - Not everyone who has been raped needs therapy.
I was just about to throw this out there as well. Maybe they're going this route. I know two woman who were raped who never sought therapy and have gone on to marry and have children. I don't know the details of their lives, so I don't know how deeply it's affected them, but they seem like regular ladies.

I def think Cris will be freaked out when he gets the news, and I think he might have a hard time feeling guilty that his father so abused her. She'll wonder if he can ever look at her the same way, he'll wonder the same thing (even though she married him knowing this). I absolutely think that Sev will act like a pig, claim she wanted it and throw it in Cris's fact that he "got there first."

Are we really almost halfway through this TN? It feels like it's only been a month since Rob died.

Also, thanks to Vivi for the earlier clarification.

Although why do they "love" her so much. She was only there for like two days. She got called to the MS's office at least two times for lying and she didn't appear to meet many people.

When I say "deal with the rape" I'm not even sure if I mean therapy. But from a storytelling standpoint, I think they need to do something that acknowledges it. No, I don't think every woman who is raped needs therapy, but I have a hard time believing that any woman could marry the son of the man that raped her. The writers put it out there and to just forget about it is a little insulting.

I don't think they forgot about it. I think they're planning to have her freak out on the wedding night. We've said before that nothing will be right between Aldonza and Cristobal until Severiano is dead. My opinion hasn't changed about that.

Sara, a heathy woman knows that her rapist's son is not her rapist and can separate the two. Her hate for Sev has nothing to do with her love for Cris. I'm sure she knows that if Cris knew about it, he would perhaps kill his father, or at least not have anything to do with him again. She hates being blamed for the sins of her mother, she's not about to blame Cris for the sins of his father.

Cathyx, well said. I agree with you. Thank you.

Rosemary Primera

And with all that being said, since they got married so early in the program, I suspect Aldonza will have intimacy problems that will try their marriage and eventually lead to Cris finding out about the rape later on. How long until Cris learns that it was his father who raped her is another story.

That they got married this early in the story ups the ante on that. I wish she had told him ten episodes ago and theh padre before that.

BTW, I am planning to do another Toxic Mothers cell block. Please e-mail me your picks and the details per the previous gallery (done in January 2014). We're somewhat overdue for one.

What's that, Urban?

Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

I like both Chris and Aldonza, they’ll have a really bumpy ride for the next months, but I’m happy to bump along with them, because I think the are basically good people. I doubt she’ll go for counseling or advice from the good Padre because she seems to need to go it alone. Maybe if she just got into a good “jazzercise” (smile) class, she could calm her mind with endomorphines and think more clearly, she’s been a bit frazzled lately. She is going to need a clear mind with what she is facing, in-laws from deep deep Hades.

My goal in life has been to be more like Saint Renato, but I think don’t think I’ll ever make it, he has set the bar too high.

Won’t be here for the next few days, but will be keeping up on my own, back in a few....

Sandy, thanks for the Jazzercise shout out. I do wonder to myself how these characters stay so slim when none of them ever work out and they eat ice cream cones and rich mexican food.

Happy Mother's Day!

Sandy- I feel the same as you do about our protagonists. Don't stay away too long. It's been good seeing you on the virtual patio again.

Lila, there are weekend discussions about novela villains. There have been two so far about toxic and controlling mothers:

The First

The Second

No Mother's Day cards for these women!

Some of those have spoilers because they're all novelas that have already run.

" I absolutely think that Sev will act like a pig, claim she wanted it and throw it in Cris's fact that he "got there first."

I do too hellashelle and I think he'll try to rape her again.

Aldonza had issues before the rape and was a runner then, simply because she's married won't keep her from bolting.

I also don't think Renato has given up, knows she's a runner and easily butthurt and he will wait it out. His mama didn't give him all that money and tell him to go after Aldonza for nothing.

Adelina - and you silly bitch yank that corncob outta your ass

PJ - where were her hands?

Emmanuel - you don't understand, no one has even contemplated my best interest

Renato - how do you defend against the fickle finger of fate?

Aldonza - capricious or crazy

Severiano - can't a man fornicate in peace

Simoneta - tell Cande hi for me

Cris - which of you nuns decorated the getaway car with condoms

Tofie! You bad, Girl! :D I don't know what to pick. Love the Sev one and the Nun one. Naughty!

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all who are MOMMIES and to the MOMMIES of ALL!

WE <3 MOM )))))))))))))))!!

Off to go see mine. See y'all later!

Tofie, my favorite one is

Cris - which of you nuns decorated the getaway car with condoms

These two should definitely not have any children until Sev is dead. I can easily see him and/or Candela kidnapping the baby.

Happy Mother's Day to all.
Tofie..I am considering the giggles I got from your list as my gift.I agree with you that Renato may not have given up hope of retrieving AL at some point. Her dream of Cris turning into Sev may be reenacted on the noche de boda.

Well, I am on my real patio enjoying the gentle breezes and waiting for my younger daughter's family to arrive for a picnic and enjoying the planter sent from my older daughter's family who just called from the north.

Thanks Lila---I read your recap early Saturday morning but didn't have time to comment. So now is Blogger will let me?

Your Cande and sulfur line was da bomb.

I really haven't a clue as to which way the writers will take us now that Cris and Donnie are married. I have read all of the comments and there are a lot of good points but still???

Will Sev have a crooked judge try to have the marriage annulled? Maybe but as it has been said, both are of age and five nuns signed as witnesses so where could a judge, even a crooked one go with that?

The big question is what will happen next? I'm sure that something evil is lurking in the shadows. I'm sure that we will find out soon.

Will Ali tell Cris about the rape? I'm not sure but if/when it comes out, I'm sure that Sever will say that Ali wanted it and
led him on---you know, like mother like daughter.

So Lardo is now up to going into the blackmail business. I can't wait for his anvil.

A late model car and no air bags.
QUE???

One thing for certain, the newly weds will not be living at Las Animas with Candy and Sev.

Can't wait to see Val's reaction.
the gringo

Desert Diva, Sara and Lila - thank you for your recaps this week. I have barely had time to read them, no time to sit at the computer and comment, and still am getting caught up on watching.

So .... all the good comments have already been made, therefore I will ask fashion questions, like ...

--- what is up with Cande's roadkill vest? That neighbor whose dog barked all the time ..... it ain't barking no more.

--- Cris' suit vest at the wedding was interesting to me, because I've never seen one that was quilted in the back. Usually there is a single layer of lining that matches the suit.... but quilted is new to me.

--- Did Aldonza get her wedding dress at Forever 21?

Thanks, Susanlynn, Happy Mother's Day to you and I hope it has been a lovely one!

Thanks, Gringo! You know, I thought about the air bags, too! Yah! What's up with that! It is going to be an exciting week, Gringo. The reaction of all and sundry will make for great tv! If I were Donnie I know I wouldn't want to live under the same roof with Sev. Where are they going with this, indeed!

Hey, Doris! Girl, you are on fire: what is up with Cande's roadkill vest? That neighbor whose dog barked all the time ..... it ain't barking no more. HA!

Doris, thank you for appreciating us and I know you meant Eli, too! This novela is fun, exciting and, at times, controversial. Long as it doesn't get coo coo, you know what I mean? C'mon by when you can, Doris!

And Helleshelle, too!

:D

Hey! Where's the Diva of the Desert!?

DIVAAAAAAAAAH!

I suspected heTN's had no impact other than watching and in one ear and out the other. Last night dreamed I was still in highschool and was in charge of "selling tickets to the prom". All the nuns were gathered around the ticket table chatting. A boy from the boys school came to buy his tickets. (I had a mad crush on him). I asked who he was taking. He looked deep into my eyes and said........YOU! I swooned, nuns clapped (shades of the wedding). I have not thought of this boy/man for 60 years. Where does this stuff come from?

Anyway, a nice blast from the past.

Emeraldrose- That is hilarious and amazing. What a great dream inspired by something happy from our tn.

The short answer: concerts.

Hi Lila! Thanks for an excellent recap! What fun to see all the nuns again, and wow! Could Renato be more of a class act? He gets cranky, but when the chips are down, he does the right thing. Watching him go into TCB mode after the crash...and the congratulations, and the analysis of "y'all were always going to be together no matter what"... behold, a galan if there ever was one!

I think the difference between Silvia and, say, Val or Mari is that she didn't lie. She told Cris where Aldonza was staying, but she also told him there wasn't anything going on between Aldonza and Renato. She didn't lie, she didn't exaggerate...it was the editing of the show and making that the cliffhanger that made it sound like Silvia was saying they were sleeping together, but she cleared that up pretty quickly. At the very least, she's a much smarter strategist.

Hi, Diva! Thanks! I like your point about Sylvia. I am definitely not mad at her.

Well, this episode is a wrap.

I hope your concerts were everything wonderful you wanted them to be!

:D

Lila, they were great, but I definitely need a break. Which is why the rehearsals for the next concert start tonight, I have an audition tomorrow for a play in mid-late June, and I have truffles to make this week. :D
