La Sombra del Pasado, Capítulo 71, Almost Everyone’s Got Their Head Up Their Ass

This recap courtesy of HellaShelle

The short summary is under the long one this time. No snark; too much ass-hattery for snark.

The Long of It: Cristobal keeps breaking our collective hearts with his tears. How is he supposed to just stop feeling what he feels for Aldonza? How’s he going to get past this? Emmanuel doesn’t know what to tell him, but he’ll stay with him while he gets drunk off his ass (supposedly so he can fit his head inside it tomorrow…)

Mari, dressed and ready for dinner, paces in the square before finally calling Eman. He tries to explain that Cris is in BAD shape and really can’t be alone, but Mari’s couldn’t give a flying fig; he’s always throwing her over for his friends! She hangs up. Because the TN gods want me to suffer, Pato just happens to be strolling by and sees Mari in tears. He stops to comfort her.

Silvia gets the info Joaquin needs to find Flavia. She’s in a nearby town that he knows well. He’s ecstatic as he leaves, passing by an equally, if not more, ecstatic Renato, who’s on his way in. He’s got great news – Aldonza wants to divorce Cris! (Why he thinks Silvia will like this news is beyond me, but the answer must be up his butt where he’s put his head.)

Tomas’s mom (still unnamed, according to captions) tells PJ about Pru’s Bible Study Club. He’s appropriately surprised to hear of Pru’s call to arms, but promises to help by announcing it during mass, reaching out for members in the community and attending some meetings himself. I’m sure Pru and Tomas will be just thrilled.

Ren has filled Silvia in on the why of Aldonza’s upcoming divorce. Silvia, who may have her own table at the patio as she is one of the only logical thinkers involved in this story, asks why he didn’t advise Aldonza that she’s rushing into the divorce and doesn’t need Sev’s participation for the DNA test. Ren says he didn’t think about it. Silvia calls Ren out on the obvious and steaming pile of BS he just spouted and they end up in a huge screaming match. Silvia tells him that he’s ignoring his obligations as a lawyer and taking advantage of the situation because he wants Aldonza. He yells back that if she’s not down with his plan, she can leave! (To further signal to us that Ren’s crossing to the dark side, he tries to “Shhh” Silvia! Stop channeling Sev, Ren! Come back to the right side! There’s still time!)

PJ returns from giving someone last rites or something. Lulu lets him know that Aldie was in the church, crying to fill a sea, and then Cris was in there wrestling with something that ended up driving him back out to the streets. PJ wonders what the devil is going on with those two now.

Ren’s foolishness just confirms for Silvia that she was right: he’s obsessed with Aldonza. He wants her out? Fine, she’s out. Ren tells her to wait…but just so that he can tell her not to tell Aldonza what’s up. Silvia’s smart enough to recognize an idiot when she sees one and goes back into her office, possibly to pack right this instant before she too is infected with the dreaded Iman Imbecileyes aka Ass Head. Ren goes into his office and sits on his desk, hopefully contemplating his foolishness.

Pru tells Hum she and Val are leaving tomorrow. He’s surprised the trip is so soon, but Pru reminds him that the bitch Aldonza ruined Val’s life! And the nena needs time to get over it! Hum counters, reminding her that Aldonza’s not responsible for Cris’s actions. But Pru’s like Cande, and only hears and sees what she wants to. She tells him that Aldie ran her off El Santuario at gunpoint! Hum knows Pru must’ve been talking smack at the time. He says Val and Cris broke up a while ago and Vals’s been extra on edge since Lardo died, but Pru brushes that off and says she and Val have been extra united since they found out about Hum’s bastard child. Hum rolls his eyes, but still doesn’t clear this up. Thankfully, Blanquita (Hum’s secretary? Is she still working? Are all of his secretaries named Blanca?) calls and Hum has to go take care of an emergency at the clinic.

Mari and Pato walk along, Mari wondering aloud why Eman invited her out if he was just going to stand her up. Pato didn’t like him before, and likes him even less now. How could Eman treat a woman like her like this? Mari doesn’t know, but she still loves him. Pato says she’ll find a guy that really cares about her. She asks him to walk her home, but instead he invites her to dinner (poor man must be starving since Lola’s nixed dinner something like three nights in a row). To put the stamp of approval on this union, the TN appropriates the theme song for this gag worthy moment. I know it’s sanctioned, but this is a head/butt moment for me.

Val goes to see Mari, who, of course, is out. She apologizes for not going to Lardo’s burial, but his death really affected her. Irma thanks her for stopping by to check on her girl, who’s been so sad, and suggests she come back tomorrow. Val says she’s leaving on a little trip with her mom, but will check on Mari when she gets back.

Adelina filled Padre Jeronimo in and he is furious over the Cris/Aldonza sibling lie! He’s storming out the door to give Cande and Sev a piece of his mind, but Adelina stops him. She already did that, and doesn’t think it made a bit of difference. Well, then PJ thinks it’s time to destapar (=uncap, unclog; reveal) everything and unmask the Sev demon! Adelina presses so hard on the brakes that now her head goes up her butt. They were going to treat this like a confessional secret, she says. PJ is like what?! Is she really gonna stay quiet, given what’s going on?! Adelina says it wouldn’t matter if she did say something. After all, if Sev and Hum lied about the one kid, who’s to say they didn’t lie about two kids? PJ is rightfully suspicious about Adelina’s resistance. Is she sure there’s not something else to the story that she needs to tell him? Adelina tells him not to change the subject. That is her job, so she says the important thing is figure out how to help A and C. PJ goes off to find Aldonza.

Eman helps a plastered Cris stumble out of the bar and almost into oncoming traffic. Who’s driving? Well if it isn’t our pal, Val. She basically kidnaps Cris, insisting he’s got to go home and she will take him. She’s unbelievably rude to Eman, refusing to let him into her car and shooing him away with her hands like he’s a small animal. For some reason, Eman takes this treatment and allows Val to drive off with Cris then goes running to look for Mari. I blame his head/butt troubles on years of living with the Zapatas.

Mari and Pato are already having dinner. Pato gets her laughing about all the stuff he has to do since Renato and Silvia are hopeless: move suitcases, be electrician, chauffeur, secretary, cook, bed maker, and, in his free time, lawyer. She rolls her eyes at mention of Lola and Pato promises to take her to the SF to meet all the chilangos there. Eman calls her, but she ignores him and asks for more of the Adventuras de Pato.

PJ comforts Aldonza. He, for one, is sure she’s Raymundo’s child. She inherited his smile, character and nobility. (His character? Really, PJ?) He asks if she really thinks that if he and Adelina had the slightest doubt, they would have let her pursue things with Cris? Aldonza believes him, but they can’t assure her of her paternity, so it doesn’t matter. PJ says she’ll be thinking more clearly in the morning.

Val has taken a weeble-wobble Cris home…to her house. Ay, Dios, here we go…Pru wants to know what’s going on. Val asks for her dad to help, but he’s still at the clinc. A lightbulb goes off in Val’s head. Ok, she’ll take Cris to her room. Pru’s not happy having to take care of briagos (=drunks) at this hour, but she lets the nena drag him upstairs.

Back at Las Animas, Candela is freaking out because it’s way past Cris’s bedtime and he’s not home yet! Sev, giving A and C too much credit, thinks it’s obvious Cris is with Aldonza trying to figure all of this out. And what did she expect after her lie? Cande doesn’t think Cris would be able to hang with Aldonza thinking she’s his sister. Sev isn’t so sure. But if it were him, he might be considering taking a gun to his head…Cande won’t hear that! Sev is telling her so she understands how far this lie could drive people. She says he can’t blame it all on her since he went along with it.

Joaquin is gazing sadly at a pic of his family when Flavia calls wanting to know where the rest of the money is. Joaquin says business has been slow, but he thinks a client is paying him an advance tomorrow, and he’ll deposit that money right away. He wants to get a number for her so he can call and tell her when he’s going to the bank, but she tells him not to even try. He begs to speak to little Ray, but she won’t have that either. Money first, talk later. Yeah, this chick’s gotta go.

Pru has questions, Val’s got answers: Why don’t they call Cande to come get Cris? Because Cris has to stay at their house. What if her dad comes home and finds Cris in her room? Val knows Pru can keep him out. Why does she need the huge bottle of tequila she’s got? Obviously, so Cris doesn’t sober up. Is Val sure about this? Oh yeah. She’s memorized her TN Villainess Handbook.

Aldonza is gazing at the locket pictures of her parents when Lola comes in with a bunch of dresses. She’s excited to pick a bridesmaid’s dress, but Aldonza says there won’t be a wedding because blood siblings can’t marry.

Joaquin invites Adelina to dinner. He’s already tried talking to bottles in the past and it doesn’t work. (Sure wish he’d shared this info with Cris). He needs to talk to a friend.

Cris flounders on Val’s floor, calling for Emmanuel. Oh E’s on his way, Val assures him, but while they wait for him, why don’t they have another drink? Cris downs his in one go, then flings the cup away and wails that she’s not his sister, she can’t be! Val tries to get him to explain, but she must’ve spiked his drink with hallucinogens because now he’s confusing her with Aldie. She’ll help him forget about her, she promises, as she starts undressing him. They begin making out. Gag me again.

Joaquin convinces Adelina to go to dinner. She asks that they be quick because it’s been a long and crazy day and she doesn’t want to leave Aldonza by herself.

Cris passes out mid-snog. Doesn’t matter to Val. She’s got him where she wants him.

Lola can’t believe that Aldie and Cris believe this craziness about them being siblings. Even she knows it’s a lie. Adelina comes in to tell the girls she’s going to dinner with Joaquin. Lola practically claps her hands in delight and Adelina tries to say they’re just friends, but even she’s feeling special feelings. She leaves. Lola points out that Rob hated Sev. Aldonza says the hate must’ve comes later, and maybe came because he refused to acknowledge Aldie as his. Now that she thinks Sev’s her dad, she hates him even more! If it’s never mattered to him that she’s his daughter, it won’t matter to her either. And she’ll make him pay for the pain he’s caused her with blood!

Cande calls PJ looking for Cris. PJ takes the opportunity to tell her he will personally reveal this crazy lie for what it is. She hangs up on him. She and Sev fight about going to look for Cris until Sev suggests that maybe Cris is at Val’s, talking with Emmanuel.

Joaquin has filled Adelina in on everything with Flavia. Adelina hopes that he and Flavia can work through this, but Joaquin is sure they’re beyond that now. He hopes this is the first of many dinners and Adelina flounders for a response to that.

Cande calls Pru looking for Emmanuel. Pru tells her E no longer lives there and she doesn’t care where he is. Cande thanks her and hangs up just before Hum comes home. Pru sends him to the kitchen for a sandwich and tea and tells him she’ll meet him in their room. He goes off as she worriedly looks up the stairs.

Val has stripped herself and Cris. She snuggles up to his unconscious body under the covers. Gag me again.

The Short of It: We get confirmation that Ren’s withholding DNA knowledge. He fires Silvia for pointing it out. Mari and Pato have dinner together since Lola and Eman keep blowing them off. Cande worries about Cris (shocking, I know). PJ is pissed about the newest lie. Flavia’s the worst (not actually, since Sev et al exist, but basically, since she’s a gold-digging asshead). Joaquin and Adelina have dinner. Aldonza cries and wrings her hands. Val lures Cris into a classic drunken pregnancy scheme, as expected.

Thank you so much for the recap, HellaShelle! I went ahead and read it without seeing the episode, and I think it's probably better this way. I admit, I went into this thinking "Oh, come on...they can't ALL be wearing their asses for hats!" Boy, was I wrong! I'll have to think about who/what I'm still in this for. Right now I'm thinking I'm in it for the Emmanuel subplot (original typo: "sobplot"). And maybe to find out what's in Dominga's cross-body bag. I may find more reasons later, but I'm not making any promises.

Thanks Hellashelle! Loved your take on this episode. Oh, boy! Eman totally fell down on the wing man job. A good wing man does NOT leave his stupid drunk bro at the mercy of his conniving crazy ex. I blame him for the baby-daddy drama to come.

I'm not mad at Mari and Pato for connecting, going to dinner, AND having a good time. They have both been blown off by Lola and Eman so many times, that it's L&E's fault if they end up like the dog with two sandwiches.

Was really loving the back and forth between Silvia and Renato. Love that she told him off like that and pointed out his duplicity and obsession.

Could Adelina be softening towards Joaquin? One thing is for sure, Adelina is not to blame for the destruction of Joaquin's family. Flavia is.

Thanks for the excellent recap of an extremely frustrating episode.

NO...NO...NO...That is what I was shouting as Vile dragged drunken Chris upstairs to her web...I mean bedroom. When he thought she was Al but passed out, I wondered how she was going to drag his six foot body into her bed. Well, she did. That girl is strong and determined to land her victim. Ugh and yuck. Em never should have let her leave him on the curb and kidnap drunken Chris. Dumb.

I cannot stand Aldonzaa anymore. Basta.

Hellashelle..I forgot to say your name..sorry. Thanks.

It sure looks like the writers are setting up a Mari/Pato match leaving the way open for E and Lola to be reunited and feeling so good.

We all know that everything will be all right in the end, but right now I can hardly stand what is unfolding before our eyes.

Padre J: What else are you keeping from me, Adelina?

Adelina: Oh, nothing...but a little murder (of your brother by my sister), rape (of your niece), and mayhem...

HellaShelle, thanks so much for your wonderful recap of this frustrating episode.

So is it vacation season in Mexico, and all the thoughtful writers we've been enjoying are off to the South of France or something, and the B-Team who only knows tn clichés is writing this?

Heads up butts is a great and true title for this. Ok, so the bad guys are going to be running rampant for a while, and we have to watch this BS to get through to the end. Yuck.

David

Hellashelle – thank you for the recap! You got the short straw with this episode, bless your heart. Gah! This fun-filled episode was just full of predictable telenovela tropes. Sheesh! I need some ice cream and chocolate.

My beanie hat has been stomped on, tossed at the TV screen, and will be run over by my car later today.
Maybe I should burn it? Why did the writers have to lanza trope-azos at us faithful viewers? POOOORRRQUUUUUÉÉÉ????

Okay, Patio peeps, raise your hand if---
1.) … you just knew Pato would happen upon Mary while she was stood up by Eman. They even have their own theme music!
2.) …. you just knew, the minute Valeria showed up outside that bar, that she would take Cris home and do what she did.
3.) … you just knew Renato would finally turn into an *sshat jerkola re: the DNA/divorce thing. I like Silvia more and more.

Ren, you’ve been voted off the island ... er … patio by me and put on the sh*t list.

WHAT color is that second suitcase Pato was pulling? Looked like hot Barbie pink (ay, dios mio!) on my TV screen.

I think Pato and Mari will make a good pairing. She seems to be growing up rather quickly, which is fine with me.

David - yes, spot on. The summer interns are now writing the episodes. Argh!!!

Well, never thought I would go there, but I really am steamed at the route this story has taken. Hellashelle, you gave last night's noxious events a wonderful rendering. Ever so grateful because a couple times I hit the remote to calm myself from imploding.

So now we are taking a brilliant young lawyer and making him go rogue all for the love of a woman who doesn't love him back. Yeah, whatever.

Then they go with the tired cliche of having Cris get so stinking drunk he has no clue where and what. Gee, we didn't see that coming from 100 miles off.

I would like to personally thank the writers to bringing what was a promising story to Clicheville. Murmurs on the patio lead me to think it may be the writer's pictures soon to be gracing the dart board.

Cripes sake, Ade. Who are you protecting anymore? PJ should know the truth about Allie since you aren't exactly the big help you should be with how you've helped her thru this. Sorry, but shoulder to cry on wasn't enough.

We figured Pato and Mari would become a couple. Check that box off.

So I'm guessing Pru and Hum will get all self-righteous and demand their purer than the driven snow daughter be married to Cris because of his late night drunken stupor. Gee, was Val drunk? Did she have to strip and join in? Yeah, not so much, but hey...it gets us the stupid "he's the baby daddy" plot for however many episodes.

I have a headache just typing all this :(.

Daisynjay

Ren was having enough of a reflective moment after Silvia told him off, that I'm not convinced he's actually gone over to the dark side. And I'm sure Pato will also jump on his case once he hears what's going on.

Doris- Yes. Pato was being nice enough to bring Silvia's hot pink suitcase over from the hotel. :)

So now Val plans to marry Cris and pass off Lardo's baby as a 12-lb "preemie" who can probably read and do cartwheels right out of the womb. Will somebody please throw her under a bus?

This is so good hellashelle.

"he’ll stay with him while he gets drunk off his ass (supposedly so he can fit his head inside it tomorrow…)"
"Aldie was in the church, crying to fill a sea"

What kind of world we living in, if one of only two people speaking rationally, is Lola?

Thinking the same thing Vivi about Adelina. What she withholds from PJ likely will destroy many more lives. I know she says it's to protect Aldonza but also herself. How does she sleep at night? I don't like her and Joaquin can do better.

I actually thought Renato's slide is believable and nothing he did or said was out of character. He already told his father he was going and screw it all to await his shot and now he is just doubling down. I hope Silvia leaves and lets him take his lumps and gets a job where he cannot either get her fired or fire her because she disagrees with him. Yes, Silvia told Cris where to find Aldonza, partially for selfish reasons but she actually felt bad about it but the two people that wanted to be together, were.

There are new DNA test that look at up to 700 markers and the parents DNA not necessary. Used to determine family relationships.

While it pissed me off Cris got pulled into the pregnancy trap (poor guy cannot catch a break) I'm gonna laugh when Aldonza gets all butthurt over it. She ran him off, refuses to really discuss it or listen to reason and unilaterally decided to divorce the guy. She belongs to Renato he paid for her. Run Cris Run.

Don't care either way about Pato & Mari except if she starts dating Pato Emmanuel won't get his pony.

Emmanuel has really disappointed me.

QTH? I go hang some posters and I come back and there's a recap and lots of comment!

And thank goodness because I haven't seen the episode yet and I always need the patio's help in interpreting the action.

Thank you so much, hellashelle for the recap. I will read it as soon as I get back home. I can't wait.

And thank you for posting it, Kat.

Oh sweet baby chihuahuas. I just saw the title. It's fabulous.

You and Lila deserve awards for y'all's titles thus week.

Morning guys! Thanks for the great feedback.

Sigh. Ok, ok. I'm going to make an honest effort to let my semi-irrational hatred of Mari go. I will choose to believe that she will fully redeem herself in the future because she has indeed shown signs of rapid emotional development. I will not be a Cande-like hater. Amen.

I will, however, hate on predictability. I;m disappointed that last night gave us no significant surprises. I take that back: Silvia rose to the occasion and surprised me by being brutally honest with Ren in a way that wasn't all about her feelings. She kept her head cool and her arguments solid, even though I'm sure she was really hurting to see not only Ren's glee, but also how he's starting down the real incline of his slippery slope. Ren surprised me by completely caving to his emotions even when Silvia pointed out that he's compromising his professional integrity and further so by demanding that she do so as well. If Joaquin can do better, maybe he should look to Silvia. Or maybe Pato should.

Special thanks to Daisynjay for pointing out that all these biddies that say he was drunk, I thought he loved me, are not themselves drunk. They are in fact raping these men (or, in most TN cases, pretending to) in order to fraudulently claim emotional, financial and legal support from them. Cris should really press charges against Val when this all comes to light. And special thanks to Sara for saying "sweet baby chihuahuas" because that's amazing and I am stealing it. Extra special thanks to Diva for posting the cap for me. And of course thanks to the patio for making all of my teeth gnashing, heavy sighing and eye rolling last night worth it. I seriously love this site.

doris, everything about your comment is WONDERFUL!! Thanks for that.

And I think we all need to steal the "sweet baby chihuahuas". Or make it one of those Caray acronyms we love so well. All for SBC!! I'm so using that on someone today.

I guess the aspect of Ren going down the dark side path is if we are now following true TN cliche ( I think our resident Rat Writers Union is subbing this month), you will have him pull endless shenanigans all in the name of Allie, and then voila, with pink bows and starry eyes ( and damn he does have starry eyes) he will realize all along it was Sylvia that he was meant for, or someone else and all will be right with the world. I know, I know..it's just a story.

Go CAVS!!

Daisynjay

Before we all get behind Sweet baby chihuahuas and SBC, lets be all inclusive. Any toy breed will do.

Sweet baby Yorkies!

Sweet baby poodles!

sweet baby wiener dogs!

Glad you liked it, hellashelle and Daisynjay.

It needs a feline version...Great hocking hairballs!

I'll work on that....

Sweet tickly whiskers?

Thank you Hellashelle---loved it so much.
You were so right about Vile. Yes she does have the TN Villainess Handbook memorized. The spider and the fly? Well at least there won't be an abortion.

David---The B team writers. Yes the old get him drunk, (in this case, he got himself drunk) then off to bed we go and walla, we have a daddy in waiting.

I guess that in the next few episodes we will be getting a flood of Aldonza's tears

I took a seat at the Silvia table a day or two ago and I'm staying put.

So the good lawyer is going bad. You see what you women do to us? Renato can't think strait anymore. Poor guy is starting down a shady path.
the gringo

Puh-leeze, Renato did that to himself. The women on the patio have been screaming at him through the TV not to go there. He's the one who didn't listen. Nor the writers *shaking my fist in their general direction*

Thank you, Hellashelle! Haven't read it yet. Can't wait til I get off work. I know it's silly but I'm just sick and pissed! I need to hang out and get some therapy on the patio!

Lila

I am laughing my ass off. I haven't seen the episode, but I just got to the bit in the long recap about Toma's Nameless Mom telling PJ about the Bible study. I may have to watch my recording just for this part. So glad I've got this recap. I know was to FF (If the beginning of the recap is any indication, I'm going to be FFing through 90% of the episode.)

Same here, finally getting to watch...Renato was really not attractive during his shouting match with Silvia. It felt like she was speaking on behalf of the patio! Sorry, Ren, gotta cite you for Conduct Unbecoming A Galan. Silvia will be representing me in my suit. I'm not looking for monetary damages, I'd just like you to start using that big gorgeous brain I know is lurking in your pretty head.

OMG, I'm going to love using SBC when people go BSC over all the GD BS that b*tches spew! (it started out so sweetly, with the chihuahuas, didn't it?)

Vivi - I agree, there's hope for Ren. I'm concerned that he hasn't considered the professional aspect of his actions, but just a few days ago I was annoyed with Silvia for telling Joaq to sit tight, and she did exactly what I wanted her to do the next day, so I'll also hold out hope that he's recapitulate.

Tofie - What kind of world we living in, if one of only two people speaking rationally, is Lola? LOL! I'll ramp it up to three: Lola, Silvia and PJ, but absolutely! I'm glad she's got Aldonza's ear. Hopefully, she will also mature and she and Mari will be acting like the 20 something year olds they're playing by the time we enter the Etapa Final!

I am not looking forward to Aldonza's anguish over Cristobal and Val "sleeping" together. I really feel that her character is a weak link in this TN. The character's life is incredibly rich with drama, so there's a lot to pull from. A lot of her reactions are ultimately understandable, but would ring far truer if we saw some thought behind them instead of just knee jerk reactions with stubborn, dogged follow through.

"She basically kidnaps Cris, insisting he’s got to go home and she will take him." OK...just saw it, and yep. Looked like kidnapping to me. May someone one day say to Valeria, "Oh, no, YOU'RE not setting foot in my car." Bonus points if it's Emmanuel.

Just finished reading. I loved the Head in Ass theme and all the lines that went with it.

...while he gets drunk off his ass (supposedly so he can fit his head inside it tomorrow…)

Why he thinks Silvia will like this news is beyond me, but the answer must be up his butt where he’s put his head.

I blame his head/butt troubles on years of living with the Zapatas.

But this line is perfection.
....infected with the dreaded Iman Imbecileyes aka Ass Head.

I had to look at it twice. It looks like a real disease!

After reading the recap I realize all I have to do is watch that scene with Nameless Mom and PJ. I'm not subjecting myself to Cris and Val's rape of him.

I did actually find the scene hilarious where Val brings Cris home, and he stumbles around, practically knocking stuff over, calling for Eman and for more booze, while Pru looks on horrified.

Ok, Vivi. I'll watch that part. It sounds funny. What is it with Cris and his Marlon Brando imitations. First Aldonza and now Emanuel.

Pru's hand-wringing is always on the verge of being just plain annoying, but Cynthia typically keeps it on the funny side. I guess I can add that to my list of things I'm watching for...I want to see if Pru ever gets it on with Tomas. All her angst over that is entertaining.

But Hellashelle that's my problem with Aldonza. She's been promoted as this smart, steel spined one of a kind wonderwoman out for revenge that loves Cris forever but so far she isn't. I know her mother was Roberta and empathize her trauma, the rape, but she doesn't think anything through, even when she's got plenty of time. She's run from Cris time and again, usually with no explanation. One time she gave Cris the benefit of the doubt, when Abelardo killed and Cris imprisoned, otherwise she dismisses common sense and goes through the mental and emotional gymnastics to believe the worst. I'm beginning to think she loves to feel crapped upon. She's not worthy of a galan. Heck, Silvia is way more worthy.

From what Lola said about the dresses, it sounds like there's a formalwear shop in town...or a formal dress shop anyway. I didn't catch the owner's name. On the one hand, I'm impressed, because I had taken it for granted that Adelina wasn't bothering to start up a shop because she knew there was no market. But now that it appears there IS a market for formals and wedding dresses, maybe this is a possible place for her to start working. Looking at pretty dresses would sure boost my mood!

"I'm beginning to think she loves to feel crapped upon." I don't agree with the way you're putting it, but I think I know what you mean. Roberta used to do the same thing--complain about how she was treated like the town outcast and then refuse to socialize; complain about how all the biddies were gossiping about her and then flirt with their husbands. And now Aldonza is breaking up before having all the facts...and then complaining about that she can't be happy. And she and Roberta both had some bad stuff that happened to them that they didn't go looking for, but neither of them seemed/seems to be able to separate the things that happened that they had no control over from the things that they DO have control over and CAN do something about. (And, hey, that's exactly the kind of thing that a person can work on in therapy!)

martyr complex

And now that I've reached the end of the episode, here is my final deep thought...

Sweet baby chihuahuas, why do people keep ordering such delicious-looking cake and then not eating it?!

I know, I know...of all the things about the Joaquin/Adelina dinner to catch my attention.

" Conduct Unbecoming A Galan."" Tee hee. Love it Kat

I know it's the old "but if they acted rationally, then we wouldn't have a story", but I have to save Horse Hockey, or better yet, SBC to that!!

Why couldn't we have had a straight up, pissed off Allie look Sev right in the eye as Cande spewed her venom and say, "well why don't we just go and take a DNA test, how about it DAD?" and then see him wiggle out of it right there and then.

Why couldn't we have Val go the "crap I'm a pregnant. Hey Irma, wanna a grandbaby?" or watch as her mother throws her out from embarrasment and she has to navigate the world herself. I actually could get behind having her learn the hard way how to become a better person.

Why can't we watch a slow, frantic Sev, watching his perfect, powerful world crumble bit by bit with his son leading the charge that goes for more than just a couple of finales episodes? And deal with Cande at the same time becoming unhinged as all her manipulations and lies unravel...

I could go on, but I think it would actually be interesting to have the TN be cut in half--build up the bad guys, and instead of having all the good guys go absolutely brain dead for the rest until one week from the end, we watch the vilians slowly but surely twisting in the wind as it all comes falling down and keep the good guys in the character we learned to love?

C'mon there has to be a producer out there who sees that could fun to watch too!

Daisynjay

"martyr complex" I tend to think of that more as the people who do it on purpose and are trying to be manipulative. I don't think Aldonza is doing it on purpose. I think she's been through some serious shit and it really messed with her perceptions about life. I don't think it's something she would keep doing if she realized it.

"I know it's the old "but if they acted rationally, then we wouldn't have a story", but I have to save Horse Hockey, or better yet, SBC to that!!" Right there with you, Daisynjay. Plenty of drama to be had without it having to be manufactured drama.

And with the "surprise, you're siblings!" lie, Cande's not thinking about how that gives Aldonza yet another way to get revenge on Sev. If it ever occurs to her, she could sue for a portion of his estate or back child support or whatever will make a judge order a DNA test and then it's damned if you do, damned if you don't. Unless Cande wants to bribe someone to fake the test results just to keep Cris and Aldonza apart and risk losing a big chunk of money.

Daisynjay - lets just be grateful Telerisa has not extended this tontería. ( and thank you for your earlier comment)

I don't think Aldonza or Roberta do/did it on purpose and it is subconscious behavior that is self defeating and unfortunately, as you stated above, a self fulfilling negative prophesy. They end up getting what they expect

Kat...Yes, the cakes. Why does no one eat the delicious looking cakes? Perhaps those generous, yummy looking slices are just wooden blocks with frosting on them. Yeah..now I feel less disappointed. Susanlynn, looking for a cookie

Susanlynn, I would send you a cookie if I could :D I'm glad I'm not the only one bothered by them not eating the cake!

Daisynjay-I love the idea of splitting a TN in half with the last half being the slow bring down of the villain. It sure would make it easier to swallow 180 episodes. Luckily we only have 137 of this one.

Susanlynn-now I want cookies.

Hellashelle good, good, good recap. this is the most annoying aggravating frustrating Episode I'v seen in a long time.
Cris falls into that old old trap. I know he was drunk but he doesn't seem very smart even when he's sober.
Aldonza gave up way to soon. I thought she was a fighter.
Val being the miscreant vile person that she is. Her airhead momma helping her. Her father, he's just pitiful. Pru started a bible club, "seriously"? She gonna lead them people straight to hell. Most of the town is already there. Yall know that saying "once you hit rock bottom the only way out is up"? Well I think these people took a swan dive down to the bottom.
Ren seems to have lost all sense of sound thinking. Padre J need to just throw himself on the alter and ask God for help. It's like a sh**bomb has exploded all over everybody. And some of them enjoy wallowing in it.
Things are lookin up. "Woo hoo,"yeah right!:(
Something say something HAPPY!!!!!

Somebody say something happy!!!

That's what I meant to say→→↑

NINA

*chirping crickets*

Hm, happy thoughts... It's not over yet, is actually a happy though. There's still time for a course correction. And it hasn't gotten so bad that it defies *all* logic, just a lot. Gravity still works.

Daisy - It sounds good in theory, but I suppose seeing 6 weeks of Valeria whining and being surprised anew by regular things like having to work, having to pay her bills, having to care for someone other than herself could get tiresome as well.

AB did a pretty good job of keeping the hits coming from both sides though. They didn't save all of the antagonists comeuppances for the ultimas semanas. In Sombra, the first hits have been so minor that characters have brushed them off, whined about them without doing much, or they haven't really felt like hits at all. Or the hit was minor and the reaction was so over the top that the whole situation seemed dumb. In fact, we need to start a tally:

1.Severiano Mendoza
Crimes: Affair with Rob, murdering Padre Sixto, accomplice to Ray’s murder and its cover-up, RAPING Aldonza, burning and “stealing” El Santuario, stealing Rob’s baby from her and the subsequent cover up, being a sh*tty dad to Emmanuel, physically abusing mistress, sexually assaulting (can I categorize this as rape too?) mistress, ordering arson, attempted murder of PJ, ordering Lardo’s murder, accomplice to vicious incest lie
Victims: Everyone on this show in some way or another
Comeuppance: thus far – lost arm
Resolution: NO! Not even close!
Resolution: Not even close

2. Humberto Zapata
Crimes: Dealing with the devil-negligence with patient in old town, falsifying Padre Sixto’s autopsy, withholding information about Sev’s amputation (does this count since he doesn’t actually know why/how it happened?), negligent with Rob’s labor, stealing Rob’s baby from her and the subsequent cover up, “stealing” El Santuario (does this count?), being a sh*tty dad figure to Emmanuel, negligent child rearing with Val (I feel like this is a crime to everyone)
Victims: Primarily – Rob and Emmanuel. Also, everyone since he’s helping Sev.
Comeuppance: Pru and Val?
Resolution: Close, but NO

3. Prudencia Zapata
Crimes: Gossip, cheating in the third degree? And under the guise of Bible study, being a sh*tty mom figure to Emmanuel, actively horrible child rearing with Val (again, a crime to everyone), STONING Aldonza in the town square
Victims: Emmanuel, Aldonza, Humberto
Comeuppance: Minor guilt
Resolution: Nope

4.Valeria Zapata
Crimes: “stalking and seducing” Cris, defamation of character against Aldonza, excessive slapping, faking a suicide attempt, being sh*tty to Emmanuel, being a sh*tty friend to Mari, being a sh*tty daughter, cheating on Cris, raping Cris to commit marriage under false pretenses, paternity fraud, emotional and financial blackmail.
Victims: Anyone who’s ever met her. Primarily, Cris, Emmanuel, Aldonza. Secondarily, Mari, and Lola.
Comeuppance: Semi-public humiliation in the form of cancelled wedding.
Resolution: Partial. Less than 40%. Less than 1% considering the rape.

5.Mari Lagos
Crimes: Getting Eman drunk and forcibly kissing him (sexual assault) thus almost costing him the only pseudo family he has and his job; going after her friend’s guy
Victims: Emmanuel and Lola
Comeuppance: Eman’s not everything Mari dreamed. Her brother died.
Resolution: Eh. The fact that she’s getting Pato seems like too much of a reward at this point, but at the end of things…eh.

6.Abelardo Lagos
Crimes: Theft, affair with Val, sexual assault, being a sh*tty son and brother, assault and battery of Emmanuel, attempted blackmail, ARSON.
Victims: His family, Aldonza, Emmanuel, Pru.
Comeuppance: Slow, painful death from gunshot wound.
Resolution: I suppose so. It doesn’t get more done than death and he didn’t really torture anyone to an extent that demands more.

Great list, hellashelle!! I have the utmost respect for the keepers of the lists in these things.

Funny you should mention AB. I was reminded of Quiero Amarte when Daisynjay's idea. It was produced by Carlos Moreno, the same person who produced AB. He's got a new one coming up and I really want to see it. He's also on my list of producers to watch (which thankfully is longer than the list of demon producers.)

Speaking of demon producers. LaToodle is working on her next project. A remake of La hija del jardinero. I think Daniel Arenas just got cast as the rich boy the poor protagonist falls for.

Say that ain't so. Well at least one nut will hire Danny, no one else should. He truly is a one trick pony.

Hellashelle, so many note worthy quotes, I loved this one:
“To put the stamp of approval on this union, (Mari and Pato) the TN appropriates the theme song for this gag worthy moment. I know it’s sanctioned, but this is a head/butt moment for me.” Yes, I agree. Thanks for the fantastic recap. Fantastic list too!

Susanlynn, I’m mad at Aldonza too. She reacts first and then thinks later.
She never gives any information the smell test. Unless she can use her powers of reason, she’ll never implement her expensive, risky “mis planes” on RENTED land. She’ll just be tilting at windmills forever. I know she is damaged by her circumstances, but she has many logical people in her corner, she needs to listen to them.

The Sylvia/Renato scene was fantastic. Sylvia told Renato just what he needed to hear....he is at risk of losing everything because of his blind, unreasonable desire for someone who is already emotionally taken. Of course, don’t think he was hearing her! I'm really liking Sylvia, writers, don’t disappoint me!

I think we are going to novela doldrums, more time for patio drinks and talk...

I saw the caramel, chocolate (?) cakes sitting there too. Still thinking about them.

"I think we are going to novela doldrums, more time for patio drinks and talk..."

Hear! Hear! Pass the booze and cookies!

Daisy - on second thought, having Valeria/Cande/SEV's worlds slowly crumble around them might be eminently satisfying. Let's try it!

Sara - I haven't seen QA, but it sounds promising. Funnily enough, QA's protagonist was El Manantial's Val equivalent. It's weird to see the all of the overlap in the cast list between Sombra and QA!

One of the directors of La Sombra was an actor on QA (Jose Elias Moreno.)

Sara I did not know that senior Montesinos (I know that's not his real name) ;-)was directing on this show. He's one of the directors? I have to remember actors direct in Mexico, just like they do here In America. And some are very good at it. I hope he is as good at it as he is an actor. O course we don't know what portions he's directing. Really yall things have got to get better. Why don't somebody sneak In the house and get a sample of hair or a toothbrush, or sneak a glass that sev drank from, get it, take It to a lab. Well non of these people are thinking about this. And screamin at em through the tv don"t help. They can't hear me," LOL". These folks are just anoying. well its going to go this way until it ain't this way no more, so I might as well just buckle down and ride with it. A bumpy anoying ride.

Nina

Jose Elias Moreno has been in a bunch of stuff where he played baddies. Somehow, knowing he directed almost makes Sev creepier. I mean, if anyone knows how to play a guy who terrorizes women, it would be him!

Hellashelle, this was one hella of a recap. All of SL has a terrible case of estupidez. Too bad they do not a vaccinate for the virus.
