Hello my dear friends, it has come to my attention that an unacceptable number of comments lately have been:
It's bad enough I'm having to delete twenty comments every day from the spell-casters who want to bring your spouses back. I don't have the time to police this site for inappropriate remarks.
Have you noticed that there are no ads on this site? Nobody is making a cent including me. Every blogger is doing it for love. If you don't support them then you should not be here.
Have you noticed this is a NO-SPOILER zone? This is a rule with no wriggle room. It's not my rule, I don't care about spoilers (I read the end of a book after I read the first chapter). It is the READERS who have begged again and again that NOBODY SHOULD REMARK ON THINGS THAT HAVE NOT YET HAPPENED ON THE U.S. RUN OF A SHOW.
Oh, have you watched ahead somewhere? Do you think you are cooler if you go "nyah, nyah, I know what's going to happen to Horacio!"? No. You are not cooler. You are a jerk. Let people watch the shows as they unfold. If you have to gossip about what hasn't happened yet, go to another site.

I'm reading you loud and clear. I'm sorry that some people feel that in order to enjoy this site they absolutely have to drop spoilers, refuse to say "thank you," attack the recappers, attack other commenters, use racial slurs...that's not the group I want to cater to.

Agree one gazillion percent, and if I knew how to screen out the witchcraft offers so you didn't have to delete them, I would do that, too.
I have no patience with people who complain that a recap done by a volunteer on a site they read uncoerced and for free isn't written exactly the way they want it written. If you want a different sort of recap or a place where you can talk spoilers, find it elsewhere or make it yourself!

This is one of the very best corners of the internet, and it makes me sad that anyone is trying to ruin it.
I need to get into one of the current Lunivision offerings just so I can hang out on the Patio again and catch up on all the shenanigans. I miss the Patio crew!

I realize there is an exception to the "no socioeconomic slurs." I do not forbid mockery of the rich. I know that's inconsistent, but there you have it.

Thank you for this Jane. We really needed it to be said. I hate the "just hang in there for another couple of weeks, it gets better" comments. Even that is a spoiler that I don't want to read.
When I view ahead I never post to a discussion until the recap is up so as not to risk revealing something that hadn't happened yet on Univision.
I do have one question:
Since I just signed on for YNCELH which begins in two weeks, what is the earliest I should post the recap? In the past I posted as the credits rolled so as to maximize discussion time but I'm on the East coast. If this is a problem for West Coasters I will set it to post later. Since this series will air at 10PM this makes a big difference.

Urban thanks for telling us when you post, cause I'm on the east coast also. And around 11:30 I get my phone and start lookin for recaps. I don't want to be a spoiler by commenting on something our west coast pals haven't seen yet. Of course on friday nights I usually wait until saturday to read recaps.

I know better than to read the recaps or the comments if I don't want to know what happened before I watch it here on the west coast. So I don't see it as a problem if you post it after you view it on the east coast. But that's just my opinion. What I don't like is if someone comments of the new episode on the previous episode's comment thread. That's usually done if the new recap isn't up yet.
You're right, cathyx, it's not a problem if you stay away from Caray until after the show airs...but some of us are addicted ;) I believe "once the credits roll" on the East Coast is still an hour before it starts on the West Coast. If a 2-hour delay is too much, how about an hour after the credits roll? Give us poor souls who just can't stay away from the blog an extra hour before we start averting our eyes?
Thanks, Jane! Hope a few comments on occasional sloppy plot construction are still ok! (Especially when they would have been easy for the tn's writers to fix).
That means that 10PM EST series recaps can't be posted before midnight EST. I guess I can live with that since I usually turn into a pumpkin before there are any comments.
This was never an issue before. Can this blog be set up so that each time zone views it at the same clock position?
People didn't post as fast before? I used to write my recaps the following morning. So far it sounds like I'm the only one here lacking in willpower :) so maybe it's not worth worrying about and you need to just do what works for you.
So glad that you spelled this out, Jane. Certain concepts need to be repeated regularly. And I delete the spellcasters when I find them but I'm not on the CarayCaray site as often as I used to be.

Thanks Jane for the house rules reminders. This is your house/blog, so what you say goes.
Urban- I have never heard anyone complain that the recap was up too soon, so do what works for you. When I recap, I always love to see 1-2 comments before bedtime, so I post it when I'm done with it.

I will disagree about the "just hang in there it gets better" being a spoiler, because it does not ruin the story for me.
Instead, those type comments have given me hope and kept me from giving up and bailing out on some telenovelas.

Well Doris, since it does bother some of us, then I say it shouldn't be said. I don't want ANY hints into the future. I should have the opportunity to view it in the same manner as the person who is making those comments was able to see it.

I've typically been one who doesn't like "it gets better/worse/make sure you watch tonight" kind of comments, but I've also never deleted one just for that because there's no actual information. I'm not sure how I would handle it going forward, except to base it on what else is included in the comment and ask for things like that not to be discussed, the way we've asked that the previews not be discussed on Sombra because they're giving away too much information--at least when they're accurate! Essentially, whether it's concrete info, the preview, or "it gets better," all of those are referring to something that happens after the episode that aired, so maybe it needs to be discouraged.

Doris, we deem "It gets better" a spoiler but actually it's always true. Just a question of when. Are there any novelas in which the bad guys win?
Sometimes the "it gets better" kind of comment gets specific about a certain character or plot point and really borders on spoilerish.

The 'it gets better' comment is never just left like that. Of course we all know it will get better by the end. The comment is often: hang on for another couple of weeks, or, we're going through a dark period and it will last a good month, or, by Friday you'll all be happy, so just hang in there, or, you will see what develops by Wednesday. Ugh!
I can't recall any villains winning in the true sense. There have been bittersweet endings to novelas, but villains get punished, if inadequately.
I've always appreciated the "make sure you watch tonight". I seem to remember UA saying that from time to time, and it made me sure to tune in. Also I enjoyed the special feeling of anticipation. But if it feels like a spoiler to some, well, then I'm okay with eliminating it.
And I'm a bit like Doris. I was NOT going to watch Imperdonable because I'd seen Cuando Me Enamoro and really liked it.Saw no reason to go with such a recent refrito. But when LatinainMD said it was going to get better in a few weeks and that was why she preferred it to the previous versions,including CME,so I decided to tune in to find out what she meant.
So for me that was not a spoiler but rather an encouraging invitation and enhancer. Different strokes.
And thanks Aunty Anne...I miss being part of the daily discussions but life has been madly hectic lately. Miss you all though.

Thanks for this discussion. I really like to be able to choose to read the recap as I watch the novela if I want to. I don't see it as a spoiler since no one is surprising me - it's my choice to read it or not. BTW I LOVE the lovely, friendly place that this site is.

The socio-economic mockery we really can't do without, because this is basically half of our recaps. So thank you for allowing it, too.

Thank you Jane for this post. I remember that once I did post spoilers and such on Robo but I hopefully learned my lesson ( Although I do mistakes in a while) The biggest mess are 10 pm shows which require a certain dedication to catch up since nowadays no one is really up that late to watch one show on Cable making it worse for recappers alike. These days are long over for certain people. I do wonder how YNCH is going to be recapped since it was already finished in Mexico. When I and my team recap QPD I tend to feel that WE are giving people spoilers instead of it being a discussion board . I am glad that both Mexico and USA are receiving the same chunk of episodes though.
I do hate the spellcaster comments alot and I am not really sure if they're just bot comments or on purpose. All these spellbots should go to a more friendlier place like Hogwarts!

Great weekend discussion and attitude adjustment evidently needed. I particularly love rules and wish we had more,although they'd just be ignored too.

Been away for a couple days, but this is great! Agree and it's a good idea to put that friendly reminder out there. It's like those periodic terms and conditions emails we get for other sites, cards, etc.
Gratitude always to the hard working bloggers who we have. Hopefully anyone who has been abusing them or not realizing what it takes to do those labors of love can find somewhere else to do their trolling.

I do not wish to be banned for my following comment but do you think there is a way to express what you want to say with out name calling? Calling others "jerks" is offensive. Thank you and thanks to everyone that takes their time to do recaps. Many of us appreciate it.

We have people who have been dropping spoilers, insulting recappers, insulting commenters, and generally being disruptive, and most of them have been going by the name "Anonymous." I have a hard time taking this as a serious request as opposed to yet another example of the kind of trolling we've been putting up with.
If someone curses out my recapper and drops obscenities, as someone did the other day on a post I comment on, I'm going to call them a jerk. That's the nicest thing I could call them while keeping things civil.

Sweet Baby Chihuahuas, the first rule of dealing with trolls is, do not engage. Do not try to reason with a troll. I am going to start deleting every single comment by Boudreaux. He threatened the life of one of my bloggers and even if he thinks it's a joke, I do not. Steve, go away. You are not welcome here.

I agree with you NovelaMaven. A thank you is NOT necessary on every, or even most, comments. An interesting comment is often all the recapper needs to feel happy. It is more a reminder to people who feel inclined criticize or complain. Feel free to pass this along to whosoever you think has a thumb too heavy on the DELETE key.
As a recapper, I would like to have some acknowledgement of the work. Maybe not thank you, but *something*. There are quite a few comments that don't even do that.
True, lots of people don't use the actual words "thank you"...sometimes it's just "thanks" or "great recap" or "oh, is that what was going on" or something that indicates that they read the recap. The problem we were having is that most (maybe all?) of the ones that didn't do any of those things were/are also not participating constructively, and the disruptiveness was starting to escalate. I'm glad you weren't seeing that on your recaps, but some of us were not so lucky.
As a fellow recapper who just joined in the past year ,I am quite fond of thank you's . I agree with the notion that forced Thank you's are not really that complementary as a genuine thank you but the recapper has wasted hours to create something wonderful for all of you to read. What I don't support is to see people critizing ( Not that I dont mind positive critisism) , insulting or even threatening fellow recappers and commenters. I did notice there was an instance of it but that got mended soon .
